Just saw a variable in C named like this:
long time_ago; //in a galaxy far away
I laughed no stop.19 -
Me: *Watching a movie*
Main Character: "Oh no, we have to hack the CIA to figure out how this machine works! Hacker girl, do the stuff"
Hacker Girl: "Consider it done!"
Hacker Girl: *Opens Linux bash*
Hacker Girl: *types 'mkdir Hack_CIA'
Hacker Girl: "They have two-factor authentication in place, this is going to be a hard one."
Hacker Girl: *Types 'cd Hack_CIA'*
Hacker Girl: "I'm in!"
Me: "..."
Friend: "Wow, so well done, so realistic!"
Me: *Dies*82 -
Hacker uses windows media player to hack into police database....
//Happens only in Indian movies
PS : don't try it at home.22 -
Just watched Bourne. One of the first lines are: "Corrupt their database by using SQL". It's like saying: "Corrupt their text document with words". I love when they are "technical" in movies.11
-
This should probably be labeled a meme, but I'm going to actually rant about this meme.
People use the term hacker way too frequently. Solving your trashy fucking "Pa$$w0rd123" password and getting access to your Spotify account isn't hacking.
Same douchewaffle probably thinks you could hack a Facebook account in 30 seconds. I fucking hate the way movies have portrayed hacking and created a dramatized bullshit idea for people to believe is real.21 -
I am the only guy who pauses to look at the code in every hacking/coding scene either in a movie or series? Coz that shit is sometimes hilarious9
-
I don’t usually recommend movies to a lot of people, but if you like going to the movies, I highly, highly recommend you see “Searching”. Its wide release in the U.S. is today and it will be out internationally soon I think.
It’s probably the best thriller movie I’ve ever seen, and the best movie I’ve seen in last few years, and I see a lot of them. The tech in it is awesome, and how the movie is presented will bring back tech memories and it really is a trip down memory lane. The movie has a bit of everything. An awesome story, awesome suspense, and great use of technology and social media.
10/10, definitely see it!29 -
When you want to be a godly programmer but all you do on your free time is watch movies and porn. :(13

Movies are sooooo logical6 -
A girl that I like once ask me to download movies for her because her internet at home is slow. A day after that I told her that the first 3 on the list she gave me is done. She then told me that she forgot to bring her thumb drive and ask me if it is possible that I email the movies to her instead.15
-
I actually love Mr. Robot because at least they are trying to show the actual tools plus the codes that can be used to hack, not some kind of random console outputs that doesn't even make sense in the most of the tv series/ movies4
-
I laughed at how in the movies hacking is portrayed as some person clicking a lot buttons really quickly in a very flashy UI. There's a picture of America and sometimes there's a 3d model rotating for no good reason or a bunch of random numbers floating across the screen. They use random hacking related terms like: backdoor, DDoS...etc in their sentences.
At least they did their research...15 -
Because they can't show someone sitting idle in front of computer for hours wondering where the f he missed a freaking semicolon8
-
My roommate use torrent to download games, movies and series on an 8mb connection 24/7 even when he's sleeping. I a lot of times asked him nicely not to do that while I'm working or use speed limiter so it won't cause any problem for us, once in a while is okay but not every day. But people like him don't listen.
>Now i just disabled utorrent port associated with his IP every time he goes out or go to sleep. That what you get from being a self servings duche bag5 -
Best computer/hacking/tech TV and movies?
I'll start the list with some of my favorites.
1. Hackers
2. The Net
3. Jumpin Jack Flash
4. Antitrust
5. Swordfish
6. Wargames
7. Mr Robot
Anyone else?33 -
I hired a new developer after careful screening and interviewing many candidates.
First thing he's asking first day on the job
- I have already booked august month for holiday, is that a problem?
- I need to come 2 hours before anyone else in the morning and leave 2 hours before, everyday because I have things to do at home.
- I've seen that espn.com sport news are blocked by the firewall, why is that?
- I've installed bitTorrent on my PC but it's very slow downloading movies
I hope he's good.20 -
Wait so I'm not allowed Spotify but it's alright for a manager to stream movies?
Don't give that we're not licensed to play music pretty sure we're not a licensed cinema either.
Either it's one rule for all or none at all enjoy your productivity dip from the dev team.8 -
Me: So, I need stay focus on my open source projects to get some GitHub stars...
Five minutes later ...
Me: oh look new movies on Netflix !
Daaaamn !!!1 -
My hubby saw me using Secure Shell to install some software on a cloud server I'm using through the terminal. After a few minutes of watching, he said, "Oh, the government better watch out for you!"
I've been unable to successfully convince him I'm not some elite super-hacker like he's used to seeing in movies and NCIS.7 -
My friend just send me this...and i think you guys must watch this two movies.. Comment. Who will win??5

How everyone see weekends:
Its party time and I can finally sleep and watch movies as much as I want...
How devs see weekends:
Finally I can work more on this cool project...6 -
root@gf # date; mv gf $HOME; watch movies; touch; split; finger; unzip; fsck; touch; fsck; yes; yes; fallocate -l20M "cream"; zip; sleep
Happy Valentine's Day everyone 😉11 -
When I was in college, I had some serious knob-heads in my class. They kept on asking where they could download free movies.
So I made a .bat file called "free movies". It had a nice icon and everything. And placed it on their desktops.
What did it do?
Kept spawning message boxes that read "do some math bitch" and opening new instances of the calculator.
It was too brilliant to see people watch their computers crash, and might I add, crash slowly, because these computers had tons of ram.
Never click on "free movies" kids.5 -
That feel when your grandpa taught himself how to stream movies online and asks you to finally teach him how to torrent.
I'm so proud.3 -
girl: Why is your laptop heavier than mine?
me: I have more files than yours
girl: oh! it's true, you and movies eh.
me: laughing inside... hehehe1 -
Look babe, i love you. I really do, and i will make time for you, and have dinner dates & go to movies, and beaches, but please just let me finish my f*$&ken code!!5
-
I like the modern entertainment industry's approach to tackling piracy.
Make shows/movies so horrible nobody wants to even pirate it.5 -
Found this on /r/battlestation last night. I really like to have such neat and nice setup when I can afford in future (I hope). But have one question.
Is it suitable for non-gamers?
I'll be using it for coding, work, movies, etc. I don't think I'll play any game that seriously ever.26 -
guy: why do you use a vpn?
me: cause I don't want my info stolen
guy: nobody can steal info from wifi that's just in the movies.
me: ...
was on wifi in a Starbucks close to Atlanta9 -
Ma aunt sent me this right now. Look at how it's written. Sounds like all the crap movies compiled into a pile of shit.4
-
The relentless feeling that slowly has over taken my waking life. The feeling that if I am not coding, learning or becoming better at coding I am wasting my time. I can't even watch movies anymore without reading articles. This is the worst thing about being a Dev, how when you are a dev you are nothing else.
At least for me, not sure how common this feeling is.10 -
I'm only two step far from having an intelligent house, just missing finish my own domotic system and then a bot to control, music, TV, and electricity.
Let's do the list:
1.- Kodi on TV ✔
2.- MPD on a hidden PC inside my old grandpa's stereo ✔
3.- a small data server to provide music, movies and series to Kodi and mpd ✔
(This is something that im trying to do with spare PC's running Linux on my free time)
MPD on a PIII (500mhz + 512mb RAM)
Kodi on a dual core (2.80ghz +3gb RAM)
Server on a opteron (1.80ghz + 1.5gb RAM)3 -
I need to make a confession. I wrote shell scripts that will automatically turn on my system and will download games and movies for me after office hours, using office internet10
-
Just bought a new LG TV with WebOS on board. Am I watching cool FHD movies on it? Nope since I discovered I can create apps for it. Once developer, always developer.1
-
Growing up with thw crappiest netbook for 8 years, then a regular laptop, now an i3 laptop.
It pains me to see my classmates having i7 laptops and all they do with it is watch movies and browse the internet. All that wasted potential!
(Virtual Box, proccessing speeds, multitasking, and games! Donr get me started on games!)9 -

*Sees Unrealistic hacking on movies

*No one at work wants to touch my flashdrives
I didn't pay hundreds of dollars for a degree to be portrayed this way.8 -
Back at highschool me and a friend were transferring movies from one USB to another, and my friend left some movies on the computer.
IT guys walks in and confronts us about the movies, where we thought we'd get in trouble, guess what he says next...
Hey guys I see you have some movies, well if you want you can copy some of the movies from my collection! LOL2 -
When I have low motivation, I just remember that through my teaching, my 79 year old grandfather learned how to stream videos on his own, asked me to teach him how to pirate movies using torrents and bought himself a smartphone and now sends me emojis.
If he can do all that, I can tackle my Dapp. Thank you Dedushka.2 -
Today, I reached a new level of laziness.
I lied down to watch a movie and I was too lazy to copy the movie from my external hard drive which was in the other side of the bed.
What did I do? I've downloaded the movie once again and watched.3 -
My brother is just like f*cked up program:
Fortnite > Movies > TV Series > Fortnite > Movies > TV Series > F...
Yes, infinite loop and memory leak at its' best.8 -
So today I saw this guy:
long size = long.MaxValue;
//method that may or may not set

Apparently we are processing blu-ray movies in place in memory.7 -
I just had a dream about how to squash a bug I was encountering in my app. I immediately woke up, fixed the bug, and cleaned up my code. I thought this only happened in movies.3
-
Watch Social Network, Snowden, or any IT movies, and motivational videos
Also I’m goku fan
https://m.youtube.com/watch/... -
No grandpa, I don't scam people online. I am a web developer - I earn my living online, building web apps, plugins, etc. (and stuff that you won't really grasp). And again, stop telling people that I'm lazy - I don't watch movies on my computer from 8AM-5PM. Lovely grandma, please don't believe him.2
-
Just found that some of the movies published in the late 2000's are actually published at perfect resolutions to completely fill ultrawide displays (1920x800 renders perfectly on a 2560x1080). At least those ultrawides are good for watching some video content without black bars 😄
-
Everytime someone launches a VR headset, people are talking about being able to watch movies in their "personal theater" and I'm here hoping there will be a desktop mirroring or something like a vnc client compatible with the headset so that I can have *infinite* monitors and code more efficiently. I might look stupid swiveling on a chair wearing a headset but hey.. I'll enjoy it!
Imagine.. 32 monitors, a nice piece of noise-cancelling headphones, a swivel chair with keyboard attached ergonomically, backrest bent to near 40degrees..17 -
I hate those movies/tv series in programmer just tap on some keys and says it's done. this makes programming/coding looks so easy.
FUCK YOU MAN ITS NOT EASYYYY4 -
Hurricane's fixing to hit.
What does that mean?
Downloading porn and movies for the power outage that's imminent. Priorities are aligned lol5 -

Just watched Snowden
to check if Edward had completed his assignment that is supposed to take 5 hours but Ed does it in 40 min, top CIA director guy types:
cd backup
ls
Into computer terminal.
Pats Ed on back. Well done super hacker.
Apparently by opening a folder and looking at what files are in said folder you can confirm the success of a CIA exam.3 -

I wrote an app (took all morning until now) that tells me which shows and movies Amazon removed from Prime...
I forget why I wanted this... was it just to screw with Amazon because they rejected me....
The app is also going to tell me what movies/shows were added because they can't fucking sort them in chronological order by release date. I don't want movies from pre-1990s that were recently added...
Yes I could search for them manually but it's too fuckin tedious, gotta turn on like 10 filtering options...
And maybe I just want to run mini-DDOS attacks on their servers...13 -
When tv series/movies have "coding scenes" and they do impossible things within seconds. (I'm watching last season of the 100... My god...)12
-
I try to take things slow for a few days. I also stop coding on my free time and play some game or watch some shows/movies. And sleep a lot more. Chocolate helps, too.

Do you get random nostalgic moments when you see things you saw as a child?
i sometimes put on the early Harry Potter movies, since they came out as I was reading the books as a child. They fucking work miracles for my mood. But that is just me.Currently watching Prisoner of Azkaban, my favorite one, as I work. Gives me warm feelings as much as the rest. The entire series is my favorite, regardless of things that were changed.6 -
Today on forgotten movies – Chronicle.
A very grim, very dark movie about accidental superpowers discovery, but with some school-shooter vibes.
Don't you find it predictable how in regular movies a hero saves the world against all odds in the very last moment? Well, forget about it here – this movie is not "cinematic" at all, and that's what I like about it.
A horror in regular movies doesn't usually scare because the image itself is too perfect – you don't usually see the world like this. It doesn't seem real, that's the problem. By adopting the "found footage" screen language, Chronicle delivers the horror perfectly, because the world in it seems perfectly real, just like you see it through obscure youtube videos named MOV_0115 or IMG1014.
I like it that the characters actually look like real people, not like stereotypical superheroes and not even like enhanced versions of people that try to sell you an idea of what "success" looks like.
People in the movie also act real. They're weak, they're scared, they're irrational, and you really start to believe that yeah, this is what probably gonna happen when a human faces something as unbearable as superpowers discovery. And, as weird as it sounds, the superpower itself also looks totally real – raw, unpolished, uncontrollable force that requires getting used to and probably is too much for a regular human. Definitely not a perfect, tailored thing that turns anyone into Mary Sue.
Overall, this movie is the most immersive one I've ever seen. If you want to see what would really happen if you discover a superpower, this movie is for you.4 -
Ever since streaming became the primary mode of accessing movies and music, hard disk space more than 500GB became unnecessary for most people.12

Will Smith was perfect as the genie. I don't understand why everyone created a big fuss when they saw Will Smith as the genie in the trailer.

Probably a !rant, idk
Some background info, I barely watch / talk about watching movies.

Watching a piece (a Belgian TV series) about hackers
- Police IT dpt takes a burned down computer (literally burned down -- black from the smoke), plug it into the mains and remove a graphics card. To collect evidence from.
- A policeman from IT dpt is browsing some company's website (while at the police station), looking at their clients. Address bar says: 127.0.0.1.
- The police hacker is browsing some forum. She got the post author's IP and MAC addresses from that forum post metainfo.

"Are you good at math?"

"Can you remove the virus on my computer?"

I work for a media tech company and it's super fun. People around great taste in music and movies.
Meeting rooms are named are bands or movies. One is named as Shire, other as Asgard, and another one is Thanos, and many more.
And here's a special one :D
P.S.: will respond to all the previous posts, comments, and mentions soon.4 -

So part of my job is to watch movies.
Unreleased movies. Premier special movies. Restricted access movies. Special screening movies.
Fun part about being in a media tech company is you get amazing perks.
One of the product verticals we have, competes with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
So, we have to determine which movies to license and resell on our platform.
For which we have volunteer program where they assign us movies to watch. A couple of movies everyday. Folks have to submit their feedback on certain parameters and then the team evaluates and makes the decision.
As of last few weeks, Cannes 2022 was on and we had a lot of movies lined up. Got to watch some real good ones while some were mediocre.
Surely fun, don't get paid for it. Good perks. Loving it so far.10 -
I just saw the equalizer 2 at the cinema and about half way through there is a phone with "military grade encryption" on it. We see the phone screen showing the encryption and what is it? Freaking JQuery!3

When your friend is making some money posting links for download movies in his wordpress site and you got nothing knowing html, javascript, css, less, php, asp.net, java, python, ruby, node.js, angular, react.js...2
-
well fuck me, just spent the whole weekend (about 33 hrs) not being able to solve a task from uni with a java program we had to write🙄😪
the problem was a given set of movies with a weekday, the begin time, the duration, the title, and a "score"
the movies take place in one week (random days, random amount of movies) and every movie can be shown multiple times
our task was to find a sequence of non-overlapping (all unique) movies with a score of at least a given number
all in text form
i tried dynamic programming but the more i tried, the more it got complicated, so i ended up using "earliest finishing time first"
my code is just 3 points under the goal and i don't know what to change anymore😒, also some friends did the exact same and succeeded somehow
copying (and obfuscating) won't work, as the codes will be compared by a very good "copy checker"
let's hope i'll still have a chance for an exam😐2 -
Apple products are so fucking overpriced. Here is an "Apple TV Remote Loop" (that holds the remote to your wrist). It costs ₹ 1500
For people outside India, his shit costs more than 1 year of unlimited calling phone plan from the leading provider, with 24 GB data and complementary TV and Movies subscription. (₹ 1299)15 -
I'm soon going to be crossing the path into the world of Linux with my first install.
So here's my device specs:
Toshiba Satellite L755-S5256
RAM: 4GB
CPU: i3-2310 (2.1ghz)
I use the device to stream movies and TV onto my TV (through HDMI cord) since the TV can't connect to the internet.
Any suggestions for a simple and light weight distro I could use? Thanks everyone in advance!10 -
I just love it to giggle at "hackers" in movies/series.
"He used an ARP to 'crack' the hostname of the server"
And then a countdown when the Server is hacked...10 -
Watched Fast & Furious 8 with a few dev friends last night and laughed our asses off at the 'hacking' scenes. Seriously what the fuck was that.5

Every work experience so far.
The first one... Internship abroad, very messy codebase, almost no code review.
At the end I was so tired I started watching movies during worktime. -
I used to think the "hackers" in movies were so cool, with the scrolling matrix like text. Now I just laugh because I know how stupid and unrealistic most of it is 😆.1

I work for a quite small company (4 people) and about 3 years ago, there was this guy from Bolivia who was an intern for graphics and similar stuff, nothing related to programming.
Turns out we got to be quite friends and still hang out from time to time now.
Best thing was when boss wasn't at the office for like a week and we hadn't much to work on, so we spent time smoking, eating, chatting and watching movies... very great time! -
"Hello R., how are you?"
"Hi M.! I'm at the beach now, finally relaxing after months of work."

"Er... yes?"
"Well, today I tried to start my computer and it's showing me a black screen telling \"disk boot failure, insert system disk\", do you know how to solve it? Before you worked on it, it used to work as a charm..."1 -

Woke up at 6am today and couldn't go back to sleep...
So I my Watcher app to support Selenium and provide it to all the extensions (plugins) via the common Interface.

I saw this movie today where an antisocial guy just wanted to be left alone. When this didn't work he produced a scheme to change his environment to his liking using many cool inventions.
He seemed like your average developer but about one hour into the movie I saw something that only happens in movies.
He actually met the deadline of stealing all presents by dec 25 morning, I mean... No deadline extensions!1 -
Got that old mid 2011 MBA and just put Ubuntu 20.04 on it. Tried 18 on it before but didn't really feel right. 20 works great though.

Will use it for entertainment purposes, movies, music etc.2 -

How to enable dark mode for every application in windows?
Simple....
1)Open "Magnifier"
2)Ctrl+Alt+I
3) Ctrl+Alt+F
Basically just inverts color but it's good enough for some text editor or reading fully white background excel, word or PDF which sometimes hurt my eyes at night especially...
Just don't use it for any movies please :D6 -
Part 2... I just bought Amazon Prime (with the free shipping)... spent all night watching a movie and then adding Recommendations too my Watchlist.
I think I added at least 10 movies and 30+ seasons...

Does anyone know how in Movies and TV shows do all those computer sites/software are done?
Like when we see a cia mission room for example, and there after agents running a face recognising and get 50 popups with information, or location some secret hide out place and super cool screen with 10 widgets show us location..
That can't be real.. But i have no idea how it's done.. is it green screen replaced later with fake video, or something similar? Please help, I MUST KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!!!!18 -
Just watched Fight Club for the first time last night (which probably seems insane as a 31 year old cis white male I know but I was raised poor/white trash and didn't really watch movies)
So, so glad we no longer have that cliche movie premise of "ugh I hate my stable, well-paid job with benefits and my stable, comfortable life UUGGGGHHH"
However the idea of a bunch of sexually repressed, generally soft office workers beating the shit out of each other is pretty hilarious on its own14 -
I just watched "Venom" in 3D.
That was awesome. I also loved the "Parasite" manga and anime reference. Plus, they made the labours and weapons of the aliens look like those from the game "Prototype" 1 and 2.
Would really watch the future movies of Venom and recommend everyone who did not watch this movie to watch it. It is a masterpiece.4 -
How to decide between staying in for projects and coding or going out for movies, meetups etc?! HOW?
When is it wasting time, and when is it necessary level of socializing?6 -
Backstory:
The webpage for (basically) the only movie theater chain is slow. The app, goddamn, is worse.
So I made an app to scrape the data and save it in a SQLite db for my use. However, there is one theater which doesn't belong to the same company. So I decided to also include it in the app.
But it sucks! I still have to find a way to automatically get the data from their shitty site.6 -
It is so awkward to watch 50 shades of grey movie and coding at the same time. Especially when the **** part someone pass by and watch it with you.
That someone is my CTO . He paid me RM 200 for the pass him the movies. Sounds like I have a new business.
So anyone need the movie , it is just 200MYR... 😂😂😂😈
Actually he can get it from torrent. But why?27 -
Normie colleague at work: I don't know hoe to properly display these tags (for movies, series, etc)
Me: I've seen a site categorise the tags by character, genre and series. maybe that could work.
C: cool, could you show it to me.
Me: *Sweats intensely* I forgot the name
C: oh, ok...
Sorry, but I don't want to expose my favourite hentai site to you3 -
Please share the weirdest business logic you had to implement!

DAMNIT. I love Netflix, I do, but if you want to really stop the illegal downloading in the long term then don't remove series or movies I'm watching.
I get it, it's these big companies pulling their content but it's just so backwards.
Happy new year!5 -
I want to remake hunger games.
But its just that last 2nd or 3rd scene where catpiss everclear is ugly crying and neurotically yelling at her sisters cat, for like two hours straight.
RIP Finnick. The only good character. Otherwise it would have been a completely unwatchable series of movies.
Sometimes I wake up and just choose violence. Fight me.16 -

I'm in big dilemma for a few days. About what to do to my HP stream. It was bought from overseas so it has licensed windows 10. It only has got 32GB for storage. And I only have like 1GB 2GB free space. I am using it for presentation, urgent quick code debug, watching movies and browsing internet.
So the dilemma is should I abandon the license windows 10 and install a lightweight Linux distro or not? 🤔36 -
My family think all I do as a developer is play games, watch movies 😂.

So all Matrix movies are now on Prime... Not sure when exactly that happened but watching them right now.
Apparently the original was released in 1999 so that's like 20 years ago.
Seems like the image of future AI hasn't changed much.
And I just got kicked off the TV so a group of guests can watch America's Got Talent... :(7 -

I'm clearly a little obsessed with Destiny, but it's what helps me unwind at the end of the day. Between working full time, 16 credit hours at school, and a baby girl coming in just a couple of weeks, I have to have something to escape reality for just a little bit sometimes.
Destiny isn't all I play, but it takes up most of the time and the game that - for that last several years at least - brings me the greatest amount of joy. It's the game that has finally made me buckle down and get serious about finishing school work on game dev.
Other activities include podcasts - which I am devouring nearly constantly - and movies. I have about 20 podcasts I'm currently actively subscribed to with another 20 that I have on reserve in case I get through my list too fast. As for movies, I watch them when I have time. Recent watches that I've enjoyed were Destroyed, On The Basis Of Sex, and Aquaman.3 -
Github is creating nice quality movies on YT. But the content itself, to vomit from it. AI this, AI that. It's like 100% advertisement. It could've been so beautiful with showcases of projects that are trending and stuff. They don't give a fuck about what the viewer wants. Never seen a github video? This is why, it doesn't show up in recommendations indeed, even when subscribed. Nobody presses like on their shit. Idiots9

Finally got few cables and now I can connect my laptop and even my cubietruck (device llike rasp) to the crt TV which was lying waste. Thinking to provide cast service to use it to watch movies. I know the resolution will be poor up but still with a try ☺️2

You know what really bugs me? How movies show people hacking into something with the terminal and all the matrix code but its really not like that.6
-
Ability to understand all machine learning models to modify code and those models directly and create better ones every time.
I would take existing ml model, modify it by hand to create better one, win some multimillion dollars competitions and make them open source.
Eventually all recommendation systems, text to speech, speech to text, music generation, movies generation etc would be opensource.
This would either destroy or boost all modern economy but for sure it would make harm to corporations and make them cry.
That would be fun to see.6 -
Just finished watching "Halt and Catch Fire" on Netflix. If you haven't checked it out, you definitely should. It's about 80s tech disruptions. Also, any other suggestions for tech related TV series / movies? Silicon Valley, Mr. Robot etc.?6

I really want 2017 to be a great year...
One thing I do is have a movie marathon ... Last few years I did the Hobbit movies ...
I can't think what to do to start of this year 🤔

Enter one word in terminal and hack fucking government's, CIA's, NSA's, websites, database and servers, just like hackers in movies do.

This is !dev as fuck but does anyone know something like a book recommendation engine? There are a ton for movies and anime, but couldnt find a good one for books. The best would be one where i input some books and fonds me similar ones.
Alternatively, im looking for dark fantasy books where magic is negligible and potentially has assassins in it, if anyone knows good ones.10 -
Getting back on track is so difficult man .😅
I've almost spent a week procrastinating and crying that I can't do coding coz I'm sick .,while I watched movies 😂

Does someone else have that too?
Sometimes at night when I'm creating something new (or adding to something) and I get into that zone when stuff suddenly works better than expected or when the thing I'm making is just awesome, I feel a need to turn on "evil" music, such as music with deep voiced male choirs, the soundtrack of Portal 2, some classic music like those evol geniuses in movies or comparable.
It just makes me feel like I'm gonna destroy the planet once my evil creation is done. -

I'm gonna need another pandemic and lockdown just to get through all that shit! Which of course won't work because it just keeps growing now, never shrinks.
...which makes me think I've discovered a new virus: streaming movies... they sure as hell seem to replicate like a virus, don't they?3 -

Going back and rewatching Star Wars stuff only to remember and get pissed off once again about the Sequel Trilogy. I can’t believe some people are allowed to make movies, watching a dog poop has more value than the entire story of those three movies, and Disney can go fuck themselves for that.10

Adventues with Teachers: Story I
This is a story about an English Teacher that happened to our school in front of 7 year olds.
She doesn't really teach, she just plays movies for them.
So a typical lesson of her goes like this. Turn on the projector, Open the Movie via this streaming site. Most of the times ad's open mostly about betting and stuff but this time when suddenly a Porn Ad opened in front of 7 year olds. Instead of unplugging the Projector like a Normal Person she stands in front of it, jumping moving with her arms to hide it...
Not only that some kids started crying, because they couldn't see what she was hiding. So she spent the entire lesson hiding and trying to cheer children up...
What a great lesson that was...
Why could have that happened. Idk maybe next time either Torrent your Movies or install a fucking ad blocker so you don't have to deal with any kind of ads, especially those!2 -

I love my Mac but damn, most MacOS releases are so damn useless, I won't do a major OS overhaul (updating from Big Sur to Montrey) just to get Share Play and the opportunity to watch movies together with my few Mac using friends, I don't need those fucking marketing driven bells and whistles, just give me a stable UNIX base an efficient and good looking UI and regular security patches and I'm good.
I would be happy to keep using Mavericks but without yearly MacOS release how Apple would be able to convince normies to replace their 10 years old MacBooks?4 -

i am taking some pills for hemorrhoids and yesterday i was combined them with my third coffee. Somehow i was full of energy and i started coding like f crazy. I was literally writing code withe the speed and tension you see in movies, or if you like it, like our non tech bosses are thinking we work 8 hours a day for granted. I did not know what was happening, i was typing correctly, fast, and i want to live it again. Dope, adrenaline, aggression!
The code must fear us, not we the code!2 -

OK so here's that App I wrote for scraping recently added Prime Videos info...
It's really pre-alpha and lot's of things to clean up but... it works... for me...
https://github.com/allanx2000/...
You need to relink some of the references... You can download the DLLs here. Haven't cleaned it up yet and don't need EntityFramework.
https://github.com/allanx2000/...
Now why am I posting the source code you ask?!!! Well you see writing an app that tells me what new movies were added so I can add it to my watchlist is a poor investment honestly...
Porbably invested 10 hrs writing it and well that adds more movies to my Watchlist. Watching these movies even at 2x speed still takes 1 hour...
I could/should be doing better things...2 -
Pretty much any sic-fi movie. Loving 2019 movies : Atlia, avengers end game, captain Marvell, Godzilla, starwars episode dark phoenix, MIB international, Shazam, spider Man far from home, 😊😁😀

Part 3
https://devrant.com/rants/9881158/...
I dropped subtitles and started extracting audio from movie, after that I use whisper to convert speech to text.
I parse srt from whisper, adjust timestamps to get >= arbitrary amount of voice seconds. I put text to vector database with timestamps and movie file name.
I query database by ex. “I don’t know” and extract first n results, after that I walk trough movies and extract parts with found text.
I normalize and merge parts into one movie.
Results are satisfying so now I decided to try to find a common dialogue that I can watch by combining multiple persons speaking from multiple movies.
Might also try to extract person from one movie and put it to other movie.2 -

Hello my fellow dev ranters! I've been speaking with my dad and he has been complaining about how slow is his old windows machine. I was thinking of move it to a Linux distro, but I don't know which.
The machine has 2gb of ram, about 200gb os disk, a ati radeon 2400 gpu and a intel dual core.
With these specs and taking into account that the final user is a person that mostly uses the pc for web browsing, sports stream and movies. What would be a good, lightweight and simple to use linux distro?
Thank you in advance!3 -
I actually don't hate Microsoft that much , its a great tool when come to stream and download pirated movies and games too , I just hate it whet it cause interference with work, slowly ness, turn of issues, I hate the refresh feature which I through they I'll remove it on win 10, love the multiscreen feature on win10, love that they support Linux env build now,

As a developer and from a programmer's perspective... what's the best idea you can think of to make "Teleportation" work just like sci-fi movies?7
-
I was ten years old. At this point, despite being in my early 20's, I've officially been programming more than half of my life. From the first moment I knew that this was possible, that we, as software engineers, can do what we do... I've been quite literally obsessed with the idea.
I don't like to give other people credit for the events in my own life, but there is one thing that, more than anything else at the time that lead me down the path of computer science, directly lead me to where I'm at today. If you're at all interested in film and cinema (not to mention programming) then you've undoubtedly heard of The Social Network, directed by David Fincher. Amazing film, I'd recommend it to anyone based off of the film alone, but for me that movie holds a special place in my heart.
My mom took me to see it that movie in theaters when it came out, I would not stop bugging her to take me, there was just something about the founding of Facebook that... Sparked my young imagination. I swear to you that I didn't blink for the entire time I was in the theater watching it. It blew my mind, not only that you could do that kind of stuff with computers, but that you could actually make a lot of money working with computers as well... Ten year old me had different priorities in regards to programming 😂 Starting the moment I got home from the theater, I dedicated my life to learning everything I could about computers. Originally my goal was to, shock of all shocks, create a social networking site for me and my friends to use. I still like to brag about it to this day, but that project eventually became my groups final project in our computer class in Middle School. It was funny, middle school computer class, I had already been programming a few years by that point and was rather proficient in PHP. There were kids submitting literal spreadsheets in Excel as their final project, a few static HTML pages, that sorta jazz. My group and I submitted a full fledged twitter clone, with complete functionality. We got 100% on the project 😂😂
My reasons and interests have changed over the years. For example, I'm not particularly interested in creating a social media application these days, and I don't program because I think it'll make me rich one day (though the hopes always there) but the one thing that hasn't changed since that night I sat enraptured in the beautiful cinematography of David Fincher and facepaced dialogue of Aaron Sorkin, is the complete and total fascination with computers and technology. For that reason The Social Network will forever be my favorite movie.3 -
this is how my mind processes gods and religions.
comparing to the current time, they are comparable to the movies.
like 'The Avengers' - 1, 2, 3, etc
they are the stories, for ENTERTAINMENT, of that time.
and along the way, they twisted and turned the scripture.
and the fans became the followers.4 -
I can promise you all this... Artificial Intelligence’ silicone valley... will not be in California, the industry will be in west Michigan... instead of the and valleys beaches of California it will be the hills and lake shores of Lake Michigan... true artificial intelligence of the movies will be “born” there. The liberal developers and hipster coders can stay out in California.. while the rest of us will be over her in Michigan. I promise you this will happen, give it 10 years8

I used to be able to connect my Windows laptops to any TV with HDMI and duplicate the screen for presentations, watching movies, etc. But since about 6 months ago I can’t get ANY TVs to work with ANY Windows laptops. Everything I’m reading says it’s either out of date drivers (nope) or something to do with a crap update from MS. I’m going with the latter. It can’t be coincidence that ALL my updated machines suddenly can’t do this basic function.2

Hi friends!
I'm I'll since Sunday and my imagination is starting to fade. So far I've read/watched movies on deep learning and CNN, had a long session on Wikipedia on common fallacies, as well as a lot of other things. But now I can't think of what to do.

I stumbled apon this software called vavoo.to, whith this you can watch Movies, Series, Live TV and more just started to reverse the apk.
Now out of curiosity how the fuck are they doing this with Live TV without hosting it themselves.
They also sell legally their own Android TV boxes with the pirated content from Switzerland. Why can they do this without being fucked from behind??
I will find it out eventually but this is interesting to reverse. -
My current distractions are the need for keltfest and castlefest. I can hardly wait for them. Aside from those two, at work there are hardly any distractions but when it comes to personal projects... yeez where to start?

- youtube
- planning furniture creation

- playing the guitar
This is probably because I don't own a desk. Will create one within the next two weeks. -

What movies/reality around me tells about free time:
- the "grand parents" generation (people who are in there 70-80s now) used to go out hang in tea shops, bars, parks, churches , wander in fields, chop woods in their leisure time in their 40s
The "parents" generation (people who are in their 30-40s now) were more into sports and would go for basketball , soccer , cricket for leisure time and later transitioned to playing board games/video games /xbox-PlayStation stuff/comics In their leisure time
The "our generation"(people who are between 18-30 now) are/would be more into playing mobile games and watching anime/web series/movies/weird porn and scrolling social media feed as leisure time in our 40s
( I have taken 40s as a criteria because i am guessing that as a standard age where you are "settled" and have things figured out)
Is this how the pattern is going? And isn't it sad that we are Going from doing stuff that's fun and making you street smart to doing stuff that's useless , time wasting and a little depressing ?5 -
Can anyone recommend any tutorials and assets to use when making movies/animations in unity?
Looking to turn my book series/potential game into a little series if i can get the hang of it.
I already know im going to use cinemachine for my camera system and I'll build my own audio management and trigger systems (Hopefully).
And a side note, does anyone know of anyone who would do some 3D character modeling if i was able to provide some character concept art and have a chat with them? -
When you restore a decade of photographs from your relatives' hard drive and they have no idea that you feel like a hacker from the movies. But as you browse the photos, you cri because damn! It's been years! I miss my childhood!

!Rant. I've always loved good computer/hacking scenes from movies. It might even be because of them that I started studying computer science. Anyways, got any good movie tips containing these kind of awesome scenes?8

So you know those movies where the girl fells in love with the bad gay(kidnapper, thief...) and she doesn’t want to be saved.
Same relationship with me and JavaFX.1 -

As a Netflix subscriber, don't you feel inundated by new content and the need to binge "since paid for it"? How much time do you spend watching?
Just signed up for 30-day trial and and there are like so many original shows and movies and well in multiple languages. And a separate section for Coming Soon which contained like an unending list of movies and tv series.5 -
I just launched movie from some website and apple+ logo show up.
I thought yay I can watch it legally cause I’m subscribed to apple+
I opened apple tv app and I see I can’t watch it right now because it’s in cinema but I can rent it.
Lol, just launching it from website.
I’m not gonna pay twice for movie.
Corporations got no limits.
I’m waiting for someone to figure out you can make people pay to see exclusive movie trailers because we already have behind the scenes series longer then actual movies.1 -
Currently collecting old Hong Kong Action Movies. Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Sammo Hung, Jet Li... Good Times :)1

What keeps you motivated about learning new coding language / technology? I learn something but then get distracted by either some movies or anime or something else. What's your driving force?9

I am watching The Karate Kid and it made me wonder if there is a way to teach someone to code without them realizing they have been coding the whole time.
-
Well this is in fact just me reminiscing, instead of telling anecdote.
My first PC was a pentium two, the cpu casing being those horizontal ones, and a big bulky monitor resting on top of it; all white. A white mouse, two white speakers (you know the ones). I was perhaps just about 6 years old, and I used it the first bunch of times to play Mortal Kombat, and Sega's Moto Racer 3, and watch animated disney movies but mostly mickey mouse on VCD. I guess my habits of gaming and binge watching started way too early.1 -
I hate that my class mates think that I am a nerd while I actually consider myself a geek. For god's sake think properly. Nerd is the one who only sticks to the books and all that, gains knowledge but does nothing practically. I am an average student in my class who is into coding, gaming, music, movies and all kinds of fun stuff and I am being called a nerd. Fuck their thoughts, seriously.

What are some good tv shows and or movies that are either directly related to the tech industry or at least scratch the surface? This could also include documentaries.
The more I get into learning to code the more I want to immerse myself into the culture of it all. Plus it helps inspire me to keep going on my journey which hasn't been easy so far.17 -
4 meetings a week for update and then everyone will talk about cars, movies and what not except project update. Wow.

why every time hero wins in the movies or series? why not villains ? imagining the after story where no heroes are there.. it's amazing 🌚12

I finally have some motivation to write some personal code... on an existing project.
(Work has been too hectic the last few months so don't want to do anymore at home...)
Anyway... I noticed that my Prime Video Tracker app doesn't pick up some of the new Movies now available on Prime, so I did some fixing.
Good News (GN): The search URL is actually static so can goto the same URL for the same search results
GN: The program can filter the movies by a Minimum # of Ratings they have (currently set to 100... use to be 10)
Bad News (BN): The number of movies in the search results is over 5000 (used to be 100-200) so even with this filter, a lot get returned.
GN: the traversal is fully automated
BN: Need to manually look at the descriptions of each and add them the Watchlist
BN: I now have 200 movies on my Watchlist and still going...
So now I have another "Infinite list". Existing ones:
-TED Talks
-NLegs
-Blinkist Read List
-Comics (sort of, I have a huge backlog for Cyanide and Happiness)
-Photos that need "post-processing"
I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some others... -
Hi, I'm a UI/UX designer and I have been working at The Movies Jackets for the past 5 years. I'm confused and wanted to ask that whether I should switch my job or stay here. Please suggest5
-
I now realize after binging for 3 days that Prime Video is a lost cause.... The time wasted is just not worth it... And my watchlist. I have about 270 movies that I at least need to preview and isn't going to get smaller... Especially if I'm "trying to get my money worth"
Quite frankly it takes the fun out of watching movies... At least for me.
My first annual subscription will end in 2 months. I guess I'll miss the prime shipping but guess I'll go back to grouping orders... Hopefully won't need it though.1 -
it seems in India isps are imposing laws incorrectly regarding torrents.
does any one has something to say abt it?
I believe when I will be in india I will be eligible to download all the tv series and movies as usual. -
Have you ever built games you've seen in movies?
I am just recreating some games (in a safe way for gamers) from the series on Netflix "Alice in Borderland"
My favorite game, is that each user chooses a number from 0 to 100. I don't whant to spolier the show :x1 -
Many decades ago, people thought about future by writing stories and making movies with flying cars and made up technology beyond belief but what we got today are food ordering apps and dating apps.
Well, its good those cars never came out, because I would rather order food at home and watch Netflix than fly around.1 -
Realizing that coding isn’t actually how it’s like in the movies where you got 3 monitors and 2 keyboards using both hands to make vertical green lines move, and instead it’s just you painstakingly using your brainpower to figure out how to do some random thing while going to stackoverflow every 11 minutes is the “SANTA ISNT REAL?!” of the programming community3

The Future is long in the past and it happened. Don't try to steal it any longer and listen to the truth and match it to whatever the real dates are. Far too much yet to arrive
Stop trying to shape everything into a loopty loo web of idiocy with a decade or more of pre filmed television and movies thanks much
Doesn't look like any of it was being withheld but seems like some of it was filmed far past the supposed date it was released or filmed heh3 -
Hello people, i came here because i thought u could help with my problem, there is this app called moviebot, it turns your prompts into movies using chatgpt. It is going out of service october 5th. Somebody should stop it from shutting down.2

Given that we went to an organized crime dumping grounds as a kid, he watched alot of mob movies and the place where he let me get hurt as a kid is sex trafficking central I would imagine my dad wanted me to be a criminal. poor him.
-
Could you people just leave shows ana books and movies at the present level or boot me off your private internet trap before I break in your houses and ask you all stuff ?
-
One way I socialize is with walks during work.
Luckily at work we are able to take a good 2-3 15 minute walks a day.
Really helps with the roadblocks and allows me to talk about movies/games/whatever.
Problem is it’s been so hot... so now we always aim for the shade. -
Playing NFS (it was the version which had the McClaren car), few other games and watching some movies (CD player) It wasn't my computer though. It was my cousin's and I used it while he was working. I think I broke it couple of times (windows 95) to get the BSOD.
I bought my own computer only when I started working. My family couldn't afford one before that. Luckily I had good friends in college who let me use theirs for course work.
