@trogus and I have had an absolute blast working on devRant over the last year. However, we're strong believers in only working on a project if you're passionate about it, and over the last few months, we've sadly lost some of that passion so we've to announce, with heavy hearts, that we will both be moving on. We've decided to focus 100% of our energies on our next product, one which we are confident has billion dollar potential: Semicolon JS (http://semicolonjs.com).
We identified this sizable market opportunity as we were building out the new devRant website. Every JavaScript framework we tried left us wanting more. More efficiency. More elegance. More extensibility. That's what Semicolon JS is: more. More than a framework, it's a guiding philosophy. We believe that Semicolon JS will do for front end development what Material Design has done for user interface design. We're calling it Semicolon JS because even though you can still develop JavaScript without it, like a semicolon, we think it will soon become a standard and synonymous with quality JS development.
So comes the obvious question. What will happen to devRant? We wanted to make the announcement today because we will be officially shutting down the product in 30 days. So that gives everyone a full month to take in the last memories, look at those rants they really loved, and hopefully take some time to chat with @trogus and I about Semicolon JS and what we have planned.

@trogus and I are happy to make an exciting announcement. With the rapidly increasing success of NFTs, we've decided the devRant community shouldn't miss out on this compelling new paradigm for user-generated content. So, we will soon be offering all rants as NFTs at auction.
To kick things off, we're going to first be offering the first ever rant posted to devRant (https://devrant.com/rants/489/...) at auction for a starting price equivelent to $100,000 USD. We think this is a fair starting price for such a significant piece of devRant history, and we anticipate the final sale price to be significantly higher.

@dfox can you please implement a gang feature? Someone assigns an hashtag to some people and everytime this hashtag is called, the team members get a notif.
Adittionally, maybe you could add gang stats (how many new rants, how many times the hastag was mentioned etc...)36 -

I wish there was a way to pay for devRant++ yearly. Since I have no card of my own that work outside of Sweden I have to pay my mom and use her card, which is a bit annoying to do once a month.

When I use devRant in the browser, want to post a comment and click right next to the post button accidently, the comment text field thingy is empty after re-clicking the 'add comment' button. Annoying as hell when you just wrote a 800 character comment! @dfox @trogus5

devRant bugreport
Im getting more and more bugs in devRant on my LG G2.
- Links cannot be opened
- profiles can not be viewed
- double tapping a rant opens the rant twice (tapping five times opens it 5 times) instead of voting it up.
- once in a while an opened rant shows up again under all the comments (with all comments as well). When this happens its exactly the ammount of comments.
Im not sure where to report this. If @dfox could take a look at this?

On Desktop, when i comment or rant, please focus the textfield.
The number of times I almost had to buy a new pc because it almost learned to fly. Just because when you are ranting to vent, you don't want to get even ansier because you have been typing tin air this whole time.1 -

@dfox maybe add a "type" field at the bottom of the rant creation screen so people can classify rants as rant or !rant and not have to remember to type !rant (maybe auto-prepend "!rant")

How about adding feature and bug report in app?
Add it in more tab like the discussions.
When clicked, there will be two tabs called feature and bugs. We can report them and dfox can make a checkbox only for him to click when viewed. That way, it would be more efficient.3 -

I was just listening to a podcast and they mentioned patreon. Not sure if you two, @dfox and @trogus, thought about creating a patreon page. I'm a student in computer science, in my last year. In one course, I'm asked to make a contribution on an open source project and participate in it's community.
Since I love the people here, I was wondering if you could point me something not too big I can help with that would be useful. To give you an idea, I have some experience in both Android and web development, but none in anything iOS.

@dfox @trogus : Do we have a feature of auto complete @ mentions ? If not, there can be an elegant feature to provide drop down suggestions to mention / tag user in comments after we type @ in comments of any rant ( not all the users , but author of the rant and those who previously commented on that particular rant previously. For example, if I commented on a rant of dfox, and trogus also comments and types @, me and dfox will be in the drop down, tapping on which will select and tag that user on that comment ). I bet users will love this devRant update. Sorry for long post , I don't have any potato :p3

Hey there people, I have a few questions regarding neo4j. Your experience could also be very useful to me here @dfox.
1. Is neo4j good for storing user data, like password hashes, etc.. In addition to the regular relationships with other components of the ecosystem
2. Is neo4j good enough to accommodate a really large number of users..
3. Does DevRant use a dual database, like user info in Mongo and relationships like comments and ++ on neo4j or is it like everything on neo4j

Why is that you can open a gif from the feed but to open a picture you have to open that rant first?2

On the Android app, comment a rant and remove it (modify -> delete). After that the last comment before your's will go all the way to the bottom, instead of having a "spacer" for the social buttons.

I think it would be better for the development of of the app to include a feedback/bug option.
Bug-> I changed my password on a different phone but the current phone didn't ask for the updated password, and logged in.7 -

Devrant bug: If the screen size is changed (by resizing app in multi-view) content disappear.
Apps should be able to cope with screen size changes during runtime - check android documentation, especially for Nougat.

This indicates what I often ask myself when posting a rant.. but could be used for example for feature requests, too. 😋
The song is quite horribly though.. was kind of a running gag during my studies. A friend reminded me of it a couple of days ago and my mind directly associated it with @dfox 😛

Does anyone else having an issue with playing GIFs on devrant Android? Mine done play when I click them and the phone just halts. However, they're working just fine on desktop.

Maybe we can have some sort of weekly rantcast podcast (maybe with @dfox hosting it or something through Google Hangouts) where we talk about certain topics and let a group of ranters take the word or something. Not sure if anyone would be interested or would listen to it but it sounded like a good idea to me (it would also grant the ability for people who don't live in NYC or in the US to kind of meet other ranters more personally and stuff like that)

We should be able to make lists or rants, just like Twitter lists. Then people can have a "read later" list or use the lists to rank their favorite rants.1 -
@dfox I have a strange behaviour. Don't know if it's just me. But when I Click on a rant to open it on "a new window" and I give the rant a "++" and go Back afterwards, the plus icon on the specific rant changed the Color to Red but the counter didn't changed. When I Click the rant again, the counter and the Color is correct. But if I go Back again, only the Color remains, not the counter.
Does anybody else made this experience?
