One thing I love about this app is the sorting algorithm. While giving good popular posts exposure, it also shows new unpopular posts in the mix, which you don't see a lot these days.5

Is there a bug in the way it's decided which posts are displayed? This is on algorithm mode. There are a lot more 250++ posts below here with a couole of 1++ posts in between. And almost all of them I've seen before and ++d them

I noticed some users with very high votes and looked at their posts. All of the posts were just positive statements. Let me try. "I think computers are wonderful. It's so exciting to build out the ideas of my dreams and help others."

One thing I've noticed about devRant is the ratio of web dev/mobile dev posts to database/architecture/big data dev posts. There's A LOT of you web peeps out there, and not enough data dudes, which I guess justifies my constant demand, salary and lack of competition. Just an observation.9

Ok people. If you see a forum with an issue you're having, for the love of fuck, don't post "Omg I'm having that same issue!" Quite frankly, I don't give two shits if you have this issue or not. It's annoying as fuck to have to read through 3 pages of that bullshit to get to the answer for the problem.5

Facebook's algorithm is so bad that I can't believe that. In the past few days I marked ~20 posts from the same person with the same/similar content as "Hide post - see fewer posts like this". And now, not that I see fewer of these posts, they are literally throwing all such posts of that person to my feed. I know that I can unfollow this person but I don't want to. I just want to filter out these specific posts (they are all the same, some link, image of an old black and white photo and some description).5

How are improperly tagged posts handled? In order for the categories to work, it'll require cooperation from the users. I've also noticed some posts that weren't tagged correctly. Just curious 🤷2

it will
- be similar to youtube/medium in many aspects
- posts will be written in markdown
- related posts will also show up
- you can tag posts
- posts can be made private or link-only
- essentially just a privacy respecting, simple blogging network, where people can tell stories, write an article, etc
- i intend to make this somewhat social, eg. you can share your profile link with friends, follow people, etc5 -

Type 2. Who posts a lot of rants, but each ones gets low ++
Type 3. Who posts minimum rants, but give lots of comments even if each comment gets low ++
Tyoe 4. Who posts minimum rants, and minimum comments, but both gets high amount of ++
In which type would you classify yourself?

All the crypto bots and hire a hacker adverts make no sense. After all, they still need to either go through the API or make a selenium script. Will still take them 1 to 2 hours at least to build it. For what?
To advertise to a dying platform that has a dwindling community, which is on top of it well-versed in programming and technically affine, so that the probability of profiting of it is tiny...

My team and I worked superrrrr hard for a client and help her build online presence, make graphic designs, motion graphics, Facebook posts, Instagram posts, digitalmarketing. After two weeks, she announced she is shutting her business down. All that hard work was for nothing.7

Did you notice that the scrollbar in the devrant (android) app changes size depending on the lenght/number of posts/comments you can see at the moment? Just scroll down in the posts list and see the scroll bar crawl like a caterpillar 😮1

For some reason I find reading tech books a repelling activity. I'd rather spend longer hours googling SO issues, GH/GL tickets, reading blogs than reading a well recommended book on the topic.
But then again.. What is the difference between a series of blog posts and a book...? Not much of it. At least I cannot come up with how blog posts would be superior to a structured and many times reviewed book :) Many posts are lame or just skim through the topic. The same holds true with books too. So maybe it's worth getting that 200pages thin book instead..2 -

My coolest project is my Facebook - to - email adapter 😜
An interface that takes emails from an inbox (mailing list) and posts it to a Facebook group, if it is a new mail. If it is an answer, it finds the original post and posts the new mail as a comment.
Once every hour it checks Facebook for comments on the posts it made, creates a list and sends it the the mailling list 😀 -
Can we build a simple Ai for the app so reposts don't happen like a 🤔 are you sure you want to post this, it was already posted
It's easy with text but not with images you'd only need AI for the gifs2 -

I am on a forum that is mainly professional developers. The forum is specific to one library that is owned by the company that runs the forum. The participants are mainly volunteers as the project is open source. Most of the time it is great place to exchange experiences and help new comers to the library. However lately there has been a rash of shit posts about needing help with shit unrelated to the library.
I get it on some level, but come on people try to understand what the forum is about first. Don't bring your OS and hardware issues that have nothing to do with the library. Also, go fucking read the GPL/LGPL and any other license you have questions about. Seriously, if you want to be a developer you need to at least have an idea of what you can and cannot do. Software is an IP field. Learn what IP is and the rules to follow.
I was feeling like a jerk yesterday and started giving bogus answers to obviously unrelated questions. I know, not very pro like, but come on people! The guy was asking about monitor resolutions and changes since he updated his window manager. It was his first post on the forum. He was kind of sassy too. At least my state of mind at the time interpreted it that way...1 -

I like automating stuff w programming.
For example some of my projects are:
- a script that takes Reddit posts, reads them w TTS, and posts it to YouTube
- a script that downloads a YouTube video and then posts it on tiktok
- a script that automates some of the internship application process
- a script that sends my boss a “good morning” message through slack every morning
Is there a job field with work like this? Like automating the combination of different technologies? I’ve been looking forever but I haven’t really found anything related. Thanks!4 -

the idea behind it is to have a nice little collection of posts i want to keep available to me.

Using the Devrant iOS app Incan't scroll down to load more posts. Is that intentional?
At least I cannot do it while using filters. My "front page" uses some filters and I can only see 10 posts. When I scroll down hoping to load more posts I attempt to "drag den to load more" but the app doesn't load more posts. I just see a spinner that vanished.
Bug or feature?2
