I remember seeing Silicon Valley and watching Big Head do nothing at a big company and thought that was never possible.
Working at a FAANG company for 6 years and just completed 3 months of sitting around doing nothing, with 6 more months to come.

Hi! I'm new in freelancing. I've created a program that scrapes data from a website, parses it, runs DB queries, and emails the prepared data to the customer for whom I've created this program. The whole program is written in PHP and uses a MySQL table. There's almost no front-end, it's just like an automated background process that runs with a cron job. I've bought and set up a domain and hosting for them (my cutomer paid it all). I got the core part of the program running after ~2 days, and it took me ~a week to complete the project including adding features and the testing phase. Now, I'd like to know, how much does this kind of project cost? The business operates in Silicon Valley.10

Do you think the producers would go as far as remove him from the series for the rolling drama? if so, can you imagine the series being without him?

So being a fan of Silicon Valley i found out there's a real startup company with a Voice-controlled tablet device called "Nucleus".
Irony is they are suing the same company which invested in it and then copied it's product....(Amazon)3 -

It’s so great to hear Apple is finally officially making the transition to rolling out their own silicon on everything... fucken fabulous. Sure there may be problems at first but this might just get the ball rolling to get more companies todo the same... we need to eliminate the silicon monopolies... ARM and rolling your own is the future... well it always use to be the standard... back in the day, until the whole modularity and lean manufacturing and order off the shelf shit came about .... but finally we have once again come full circle back to where things use to be.... pairing hardware with software fucken beautiful LOVE IT!!!
Sure this will affect portability but .... guess what folks... means more jobs for us... quit being lazy and complaining about having to work..

At 5:35 Gilfoyle says: "In order to hold that much data we would have to go RAID 0. [...] If we lose even one platter, we lose Melcher's data. Permanently."
But my question is: Why use RAID at all? Just storing the data without RAID would reduce the complexity, and if one disk fails, only the data on that one disk is lost. Also, I doubt speed is a priority at that point, since the whole thing is running on a home broadband connection, which something like a WD Gold data-center-harddrive (200+ MB/s) can easily max out.
Also, wouldn't it be easier to pay the broadband bill out of their own pocket, instead of moving tons of server equipment to Stanford?4 -

I started watching Silicon Valley some days back. Just finished season-1. I'm fucking sad and pissed off right now... No, don't get me wrong...Silicon Valley is good. I loved it.
Problem is, there is an Indian YouTube series called TVF Pitchers which had almost same story as silicon valley. I loved that series, when I watched it in 2015, after completing that I really was very impressive with the channel because of the originality and very off-the-track plot. Now after watching Silicon valley, I'm fucking sad... THEY JUST FUCKING COPY PASTED IT. yeah, some people with their "courtroom skills" will tell me that no it was different story... Fuck you! It was a copy and that's it. They removed Gilfoyle character and there was no product information in entire series... That was the biggest change in it. But overall it was a copy... A fucking copy.
The problem is they themselves, in their other videos, make fun of our movies/songs because of them being copied... Now, they are fucking doing it on their own.
I know it's not much related to devRant. Sorry about that.
Some times back, I joined a startup and they pitched in their idea as if they created it on their own... Later I found out that the same idea is running in a successful Palo Alto based company. And just like TVF Pitchers, they also used to make fun of an Indian e-commerce startup (a big one) because it was a copy of Amazon... THEN WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!!!
I don't know, but for some reason I just fucking hate it. Everybody here is busy copy fucking pasting US. They laugh at others, but they are also same... I'm going through Peter Theil's Zero to One.. and the book is making much more sense to me now.8 -

Give up. Share Target API is already on Android, even in garbage like Samsung Internet. Desktop native apps are already history, mobile apps are sure to follow. Led by Apple Silicon, we will add JS-specific hardware to the CPUs and conquer the world. JavaScript will be the only language, with an exception being C and Lisp.

ARM people, a posit, not mine, but interesting thought experiment:
If apple is successful at ARM, we may see in 5ish years the desktop/laptop market flip in an effort to chase. MS sees the custom silicon, creates an MS proprietary ARM to compete with Apple ARM. Now ARM is mostly locked down into these two options and nothing runs on both sets of silicon, or any other silicon. ARM becomes closed AF.
Slim possibility that Intel and AMD jump on the ARM bandwagon and ship their own silicon that's a little more open.

Emily Chang cameo on Silicon Valley just added to the authenticity of the show and attention to detail. She was giving a report on background TV in a short scene.
She does a great job on Studio 1.0. She has interviewed many tech and CEO's. Last weekend interview with Arianna Huffington was surprisingly valuable in the advice it gave to young startup CEO's. -

If WanaCry hackers instead of spreading ransomware they spreaded Silicon Valley Space Saver like app and the virus inside the app continued spreading itself to around 1 Million pcs, where the app would use around 5GB of storage on each pc giving the hackerd around 5 PB of storage.
Would that be possible like Silicon Valley to create a decenteralized data storage system on pcs all around the world and the app would keep spreading itself and by time expand the storage11 -

Half of the courses in my Bachelor of Engineering in IT course was about electronics. They even had chemistry and drafting.

Didn’t think I would run into issue because I was using Apple Silicon macs - something borked my ruby gems installation, and reinstalling made matter worse by Bundler installing gems that apparently linked to whatever arch they liked. Now if I run bundle exec there was that one f*<king gem that died of mismatching arch until I intervened.

This one hippie at the Sea of Galilee, has maybe done it, but left disciples who taught others the Sermon on the Mount with the halberd. The disciples of the other one in the sandals from Silicon Valley now make the world happy with their small white devices, almost cute, but no less annoying.
