It kills me that a lot of people on here choose Linux distros based solely on desktop environments. Its Linux guys, you can make it whatever you want. You should decide between distros because of package managers or frequent updates or active communities, not because of how pretty it is out of the box. You can make it as pretty as you want.

Sublime Text is a great editor but the fact that active development on it has seemed to come to a hault sucks.

A swedish insurance company has two different solution for logging in to their system.

1. An advanced high security single sign on solution involving active directory, verification of the network the request came from etc etc.

2. Using a link and passing your credentials in the query string!!! Like: insurancecompany.com?username=admin&password=password.

Solution 2 works with admin accounts from anywhere.

Sometimes I have to work with physical hardware. There are over 300 machines in our lab, split among two subnets. But for some reason, I can never access my machines by hostnames.

Every other week, there's an IP conflict on this network, requiring me to log into the active directory server and delete old DNS entries. This usually happens because someone decided to deploy 64 VMs on a huge server, all at once, didn't boot them with a delay, let alone with with a warning to IT.

Then when my superior asks how my progress has been and I respond with "I can't even get the machines to ping each other by hostname, there's something wrong with the DNS:, I get the following response: "HOW COME NOBODY ELSE IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS. YOU'RE FULL OF SHIT", from someone who spends 90% of the year abroad, working remotely.

So I work for a VPN company as the Info Sec manager long story short I'm not usually the pleb who does customer support.

But today I ended up having to do this. I spent over 1 hour helping a client that a support agent escalated the request for to me. So I figure out that his network adapters are sharing incorrectly.
I fix problem.
He tries to connect.
Denied access so I check our servers for the request and he's blocked.
I think that's odd.....

I check active subscription and this person ISNT A CLIENT THATS ACTIVE....

Its been a month now since I launched my first app on Play Store.
It has now got 2000 downloads with about 600 active installs. I also got some downloads on the paid version of the app (which is basically a donate version of the app).

I know there is always a room for improvement, but still, how am I doing?

Me: You decided some records in system A should be obsolete, but the records are tied to active user accounts on the website. Now, I have users emailing and asking why their profile’s last name field says “shell record - do not use.”

Stakeholder: Oh…can’t you stop those profiles from loading? Or redirect the users to the right record in system A? In system A, we set up a relationship between the shell record and the active one.

Me: 😵 Um, no and no. If I stop a user’s profile from on the website, that’s just going to cause more confusion. And the only way to identify those shell record is to look at the last name field, a text field, for that shell record wording. Also, the website uses an API to query data from system A by user id. Whatever record relationship you established isn’t reflected in the vendor’s API. The website can’t get the right record from system A if it doesn’t have the right user id.

Fuck it. Two big releases plus all the minor shit raining down on our team with only three active devs. A new team member who's unfortunately more of a burden and nuisance while the whole ship burns so beautifully....

Why some people think it's fine to hire unexperienced people to do stuff, when there is no one in a company who could check if their code is fine?
Learning through active coding is fine. Until after two months later all you do is patching your code because you found out on stack that this is not a good way of doing it.

- user activity status doesnt update properly
- your status stays as ONLINE even when 30 minutes afk or goes to AWAY after two minutes of being afk and stays that way after you started working again.
- status sometimes does not update in active chat window when person's status on the other side changes.
- sometimes, messages dont appear, until I click into the app and force it to update the status from away to active

- One day everything works, suddenly next day your mike doesnt work. Then your audio is mute altogether. Or you suddenly start hearing yourself (echo). All without any configuration changes or restarting whatsoever.

- Happens so often... You get a new message in your active chat window and you have to SCROLL DOWN MANUALLY to see it!!!
- Coppied text from chat? HERE'S A TIMESTAMP AND A NAME OF THE SENDER AS WELL!!!!!

So I just read up on what the language D has to offer. It seems quite good!
- Active community
- Multiple compilers
- Modern (no header files, garbage collector, etc.)
- No VM or framework needed to run it (like C# and Java)

A while ago, I found someone asking about personal favorite aliases. I cannot find it now.

I am not a huge terminal user so I don't really care about keeping aliases until now.

It became annoying to `git pull` before doing anything when you are using two different machines regularly and there are always about a dozen active repos.

I been practising lucid dreaming since a few years. It works and is amazing. Now I'm trying to use this moment of subconscious awareness to improve my ideas when sleeping. Yes, I kinda want to work in my dreams, when my brain has other mechanisms active. Can tell you, looks like it is possible!

Since I have seen a number of people ranting about their old rants and the new +1 threshold, I'm posting this to clarify.

In the rules you can see that a post counts towards a certain threshold if the rant was posted after the threshold became active. If the threshold was increased after you posted your rant, the previous threshold will still count for that rant.

What does my current job hate descriptive names? Like to the point of active antagonism? We're a subscription based service. Why is SubscriptionExpiration the date you log in? Why does SubscriptionStatus only contain the name and id of product you're subscribed to and nothing to do with an actual status? All I need is the date a user subscribed. Why is this so hard!?!?
