I thought it would be good prank change semicolons to Greek question mark in my boss' code where his delivery date is today. I thought he will spend like at least few minutes figuring it out.
He ran make, immediately figured it out and even corrected with sed only. Then yawned and looked at me with a smirk. Now I am getting paranoid what he will do as revenge48
So here https://devrant.com/rants/1349878/... posted prank played on boss. For 3days I been freaking out what boss will do as revenge (check env and alias everytime I login). Then yesterday happened his revenge.
Was doing testing on my programs & sometime some programs would run but sometime it get segmentation fault. Seemed random first but then saw a pattern... everytime I get segmentation fault and I run again it would be fine. Checked alias... nothing, /etc/crontab, env, ps -ef... nothing seemed off, cksum of my binary... correct. Fuck! "What my boss did?" asked myself. Finally .5hrs later I saw entry in my id's crontab but then 1min later it's gone from my crontab
From there figured out how boss did it:
1) He replaced ntpd with his C program that runs in background creating an entry in my crontab every few mins
2) The entry in my crontab set to run /foobar/ulittleprick.sh every 2mins
3) ulittleprick.sh picks random binary owned by me, rename binary.name to .binary.name.nitwit and create a script named binary.name
4) Then ulittleprick.sh will remove itself from cron
What the generated binary.name script does? Sleep for 2 secs, echo "Segmentation fault", then rename back .binary.name.nitwit to binary.name. It even exits with status 139! I want to cry! Worst part is comment in 2nd line of ulittleprick.sh... kill me now32
She: Uuggrrr.. You did it again
She: Stop opening the dev tools
Me: Oh sorry
She: Leave me alone with your laptop.
10 min later
Me: What did you change?
She: I tried to remove the dev tools by changing the dragged position to a negative value in chromes config files.
She: Didn't work.
Me: Hehe, nice try though
- Light pink theme

*Admin leaves his computer unlocked*
1. Takes a desktop screenshot and flips it and sets it as background.
2. Disables right click.
3. Hides taskbar.
4. Flips the screen.
5. Connects keyboard to another computer close by with screen off.
6. Has the time of the week.
*Hopefully, there is no revenge 😁*8
Waiting for a bus. And there is a 14 year old smoking and looking after 3 10 year olds. She then gets them to role her 'fags' and then they all smoke. They are blaring rap from a speaker I'm annoyed everyone is annoyed.
They get on a bus full of elderly people.
Then I have my moment. I hear they are switching phone that the speaker is paired to, for different music. They even say the device name! I quickly get my phone search Bluetooth devices and pair. I connected all I could think was play the tweenies. And so I did.
They have hysterics of laughter, but I try act neutral containing my laughter. They keep saying they can't connect and that it's not their music. This went on for 10 or so minutes of them turning volume up and down. Until they catch on someone else is paired to it. I turn off my Bluetooth and get off the bus, you are welcome society.12
It happened to one of my friend at work place.
So my friend is a UI developer and was working on a super critical project with very tight deadline. He was waiting for design team to give him mocks and web api team for giving Apis, so he can start his work. Now there are 4 days left for deadline and none of the parties are ready with their work, and my friend is sitting idle. Management is getting anxious day by day. So one program management lady called him the weak link in the standup meeting and started putting blame on him for the delay in the project. Guy tried to explain that it's not his fault and he is stuck. But that lady was not in a mood to listen.
Now come the next day, in morning he got the design ready and complete Apis from other teams. That day he missed the standup meeting, worked whole night and completed the work with two days remaining for deadline. He went to standup meeting after completing the work, and when the turn came for him to give his status, he started with "the weak link has finished the work". There was a pin drop silent in the room. He continued to give his update like this for next couple of days. And finally that lady was forced to apologize in meeting room by him.7
This isn't really a hacking story but it does remind me of something I did as "revenge."
In middle school, this one fool kept bullying me. Always tried to harm me, always tried to insult me, always tried to make me fall during PE.
I hated him a lot, so instead of trying to kill him as planned, I did a harmless little keylogger prank thing.
I installed a keylogger on the school's laptop before class. (I did it during break, and when class started, I placed it on his desk.)
He took the bait, and instead of doing work, he logged onto his social media accounts. Now I had his passwords and everything.
When I went home, I logged onto his social media. I checked his messages so I can get some dirt on him, didn't find much except for the fact he snuck out a few times, and smoked before.
I changed his profile picture to some cringy anime thing and messaged one of his friends (the one who always copied my test answers in History and would steal my homework) and I said, "tell --- that if he doesn't stop being an asshole, I'll do worse than "hack" his social media."
It freaked them both out a bit, but didn't change their behavior, which is a shame because my threat was empty. It's not like I was able to do anything more than that in middle school. To this day, they still have no idea who did that.
This was about 4 years ago.17
This girl from financial department pissed me off so badly I took 15 minutes of my private time to slightly modify CSS and JS for her user in our intranet panel, made everything pink and blue, animate all the buttons to randomly barrel roll and made the mouse cursor explode colourful star particles with each click.
She *liked* it, said it was *sweet* and *apologized* for being an ass. Robbed me of all the satisfaction. :(7
Been awake for like 18 hours.
Ok one last push to gitlab.
*Gitlab offline* welp, guess ill do that later, time for some sleep.
*Reads their status on twitter about data loss* (panic)
TLDR; funny revenge prank from my manager
So yesterday (April 2) I decided to prank my manager about me resigning (I've been working with them for 4 years) I wrote a legit looking resignation letter. (No signature) and at the back page it has a small font "April fools".
I asked my junior to help putting it on my managers desk since I was working from home. When my manager saw it he immediately had a meeting with my technical lead. he didnt notice the april fools at the back so I sent him a short email to look at the back and he laughed.
Come today, I recieved an email from our it team with the subject "POST RESIGNATION PROCEDURES FOR JUNNERS". It has some legit looking contents as well as a hyperlInk for a resignation checklist.
It felt like im having a mini heart attack since I thought it was legit. When I opened the hyperlink I was shocked.
I love my job 😂6
Java - OOP Course
We had to write a game, an arkanoid clone
And a fun course, mad respect to the Prof.
Most students, including me had this ONE bug where the ball would randomly go out of the wall boundaries for no clear reason.
A month passed, sleepless nights, no traces.
Two months later. Same shit. Grades going down (HW grades) because it became more and more common, yet impossible to track down.
3 months later, we had to submit the HW for the last time which included features like custom level sets, custom blocks and custom layouts.
So before we submit the game for review, they had pre-defined level sets that we had to include for testing sake.
I loaded that.
The bug is back.
So I started setting up breakpoints.
And guess what the issue was.
FLOATING FUCKING POINT NUMBERS
(Basically the calculations were not as expected)
Changing to Ints did it's job and the bug was officially terminated.
Most satisfying night yet.
Always check your float number calculations as it's never always what you expect.
Lesson learned, use Ints whenever possible.18
So I just booted up my laptop.
I agreed to all of it.
And continued my day.
Have a nice day everyone.
P.S no I'm not talking about emails11
TL;DR: don't fuck with your IT guy.
One of the guys in our office treats his laptop like shit, has dropped it a number of times and had managed to break the screen. There was a nice crack diagonally corner to corner across the screen with a nice black splotch around it making a good chunk of his screen unusable. Servicing the laptop would be too expensive and would mean being without the machine for several weeks forced to use a Mac.
I offered to replace the screen for him since I have experience doing laptop repairs. Once the screen arrived I kept the laptop for the evening and spent an hour replacing the screen. I left a note telling him he owed me $60 for my time.
He sees the note, laughs and says "I'll buy you lunch."
Not only does this guy only keep his word when offering to buy lunch about 10% of the time, when he does actually do it he charges it on the company card so it isn't really him paying for it. So I spent my lunch break writing up a little Python app which randomly fucks with his mouse and keyboard.
I sent him a message that I needed to run some tests on his new screen tonight so I'll be able to install it and set it to run on boot.
The app does things like:
Jiggle the mouse
Minimize all windows to show the desktop
Can't decide if I want to add in reboots as well.
I figure I'll leave it going until I get $60 worth of entertainment out of it.19
Just who the fuck from apple thought its a good idea to make the FUCKING SCROLL BAR overlap, the FUCKING PROPERTY ARROWS, everytime i accidentaly hover over it? I cant change shit! I have to wait few seconds every time i accidentaly hover over the scrollbar so i can be able to FUCKING CHANGE the value!
Dear Apple Inc,
Fix your shit! We're paying 100$ a year for what? More bugs and toruture? I didnt sign up for this bullshit! Give us back some real quality products, or just buy the company Jetbrains and let them build the IDE for you instead.15
My teacher was presenting and her pp crashed. She just continued with her presentation but her desktop was showing. I instantly noticed she had a "stickynote" with her login details for our grading system and I tried telling her to put her laptop to sleep or anything but she got mad at me for interupting class and threw me out of class. My revenge will be showing admins the picture of her desktop ;)6
In 2008 I took my first web development job for an agency that's no longer around. There was a Vice President there by appointment from our coke headed owner who really liked to micromanage and invade privacy with key loggers and screencap spyware to "manage" us. I found out because my machine would snag when moving the mouse cursor and sometimes I'd accidentally paste the screenshot into photoshop just before the software cleared the clipboard. Anyway, I wasn't supposed to know I was being monitored so I just unplugged my network cable and killed the service running the jank ass spyware. I'd delete it when no one was looking and wipe out the cache of screencaps it would compile every day. It was basically a troll vs troll stalemate for weeks. Finally they gave in and told everyone what was going on so we collectively decided to seek revenge. We bought a piezo buzzer about the size of a quarter that chirped like crickets at random intervals. We stuck it on the underside of his desk inside of the middle drawer area and let it go. They spent so much time and money trying to get rid of the cricket infestation. We let it go on for weeks. I ended up quitting before the gag was up, but damn was it funny to see him squirm in that office because of those crickets!6
Fuck YOU Xcode!
20 crashes since I started working this morning.
Restarted the iMac, same shit.
Cleared NVRAM/PRAM whatever its called, same shit.
Closed EVERYTHING, restarted iMac again, unplugged from the wall, left it few mins, replugged back, turned it on, continued working, AND IT STILL KEEPS FUCKING ME OUT OF NOWHERE.
FUCK THIS, FUCK XCODE, FUCK APPLE, AND FUCK WHOEVER DARES TO THINK THAT ITS A GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE, im done.
P.S. this rage got me to a point where i had to make this paper13
Me and a junior coder are working on a project. However, he likes to think he's funny and say "Ok google" to stop me from using my phone.
He said "Ok google, search midget porn" when I was calling my mom so naturally I need to get back at him, so when he's in the rec room, I backed up all his code on my flash drive, and copied it to the clipboard, and removed all project files from his computer.
He came back while I was in the bathroom, and when I reentered the room and was balling his eyes out, that his project was gone. I said to him, don't ok google me again and I handed him the flash drive back. He has never done anything bad again.12
HAHA. Classmates were trying to change my wallpaper or something on my laptop. They didnt even boot to the damn system. LOL. First they didnt know how to launch from GRUB. Ater they figured that out they were hit by SSD + HDD encryption. No fucking way they are gonna guess 28 character long decryption key which was randomly generated by my own program.
Revenge you say ?
Well done already.
The guy who had the idea had a notebook too. Well i just turned on the PC and hey look at that. Offline account with no password.Well i changed his wallpaper to just simple text. "USE PASSWORDS"
Oh yes this was all in the limits of fun. Nobody wanted to do some crazy shit that could break our systems. We were just having fun. But hey i guess i won.
Oh and yes as the second part of the revenge i was sending deauth packets to his PC all the time with help of Rpi zero in my desk. Damn was he pissed when i told him at th end of school that it was me.6
When I opened my digital agency it was me and my wife as developers, I had no savings and I needed to get long contracts ASAP which luckily I did straight away.
Lovely client, had worked for them before as a consultant so i thought it would be a breeze. Let's just say the project should've been named "Naivete, Scope Creep and Anger: The revenge".
What happened is that when this project was poised to end I naively thought I would be able to close the job, so I started looking for a new full time consultancy gig and found one where I could work from home, and agreed a starting date.
Well, the previous job didn't end because of flaws in my contract the client exploited, leaving me locked in and working full time, for free, for basically as long as he wanted (I learned a lot the hard way at that time) and I had already started the new agreed job. This meant I was now working 2 full time shifts, 16 hours per day.
Then, two support contracts of 2 hours per day were activated, bringing my work load to 20 hours/day.
I did this for 4 months.
The first job was supposed to last one month, and I was locked into it, all others had no end in sight which is a good thing as a freelancer, but not when you are locked into a full time one already. I could've easily done one 8 hours shift and two 2 hours jobs per day, but adding another 8 hours on top of it was insanity.
So I was working 10 hours, and sleeping 2. I had no weekends, didn't know if it was day or night anymore, I was locked in my room, coding like a mad man, making the best out of a terrible situation, but I was mentally destroyed.
I was waking up at 10am, working until 8pm, sleeping 2 hours until 10pm, working until 8am, sleeping 2 hours until 10am, and so on. Kudos to my wife for dealing with account and project management and administration responsibilities while also helping me with small pieces of code along the way, couldn't have survived without the massive amount of understanding she offered.
In the end:
- I forcefully closed the messed up contract job and sent all the work done to another digital agency I met along the way, very competent people, as I still cared about the project.
- I missed a deadline on my other full time contract by 2 days, meaning they missed a presentation for Adobe, of all people, and I lost the job
- The other two support contracts were finished successfully, but as my replies were taking too long they decided not to work with us anymore.
So I lost 4 important clients in the span of 4 months. After that I took a break of one month, slept my troubles away, and looked for a single consultancy full time contract, finding it soon after, and decided I wouldn't have my own clients for a good while.
3 years since then, I still don't have the willpower or the resources to deal with clients of my own and I'm happily trudging along as a consultant, while still having middle of the night nightmare flashbacks to that time.2
(Starts up, chat window pops up)
IT guy: Okay we fixed it.
Me: Fixed what? You shut off my PC I was in the middle of something!
IT guy: I have here Jeff needs Java updated
Me: This isn't his computer
IT guy: Have a good day (chat status changes to "in a meeting")
For retaliation I found him on AD and spent the day writing a script to reboot his PC every hour.2
When you introduce your girlfriend to your Best friend and after some time they start dating each other and you are unaware of the situation but after sometime you get to know about their relationship , now you're really pissed and want to take revenge, then you remember that the girl's parents are strict af and you know that they won't tolerate that their daughter is in relationship
so, you tell her parents about her and
they decide to send her to a different school located in another city
When two pointers are pointing to a same memory location then if any one of them deallocates the memory, the other pointer becomes a dangling pointer
I have a dream
That we will live in a world where we can download Xcode, Visual Studio (not the xamarin bullshit) and Android Studio, all on the same machine, under one OS, without any hassle, and live a peaceful life, till our death...19
So, as some of you know, I've been on a team with a real asshole. Yesterday, we were supposed to present.
So, my teammate as of Thursday started barking out orders about this project. Mind you, we've had five weeks to work on it. He complained that he needed access to the repository. I discovered he hadn't even used the github invitation I sent him...five weeks earlier.
As some of you know, this isnt even out of character for this guy. He's a skilled manipulator and asshole. So, like I said, as of Thursday he was frantically barking out orders, trying to get it finished. Needless to say, the response of myself and the rest of the team was to spam him with sarcastic gifs. (Love how Giphy is so well integrated with Slack.)
I considered tying 3 or 4 gifs to his account, so everytime he talked, it could just spam the shit out of him. Didn't do it, because I didn't want to make a mess my teachers would need to clean up. Like I've said, they've done a great job.
So, this fucking dickhead who hasn't even looked at the repo is freaking out, trying to manage the project, nine o clock the night before it was due. Honestly, it was hilarious.
So, we get to class the next day, and this fucker, serriptiously wasn't there. Now, I could have sworn he'd show up because dude is a skilled sociopath, he knows how to appear busy.
Anyway, first thing, our teacher apologizes for that teammates performance. He says that now, that teammember must essentially finish this project by himself by next week. Remember the scope is five weeks long.
It gets better, they didn't read his name as a graduate. They read the names of people who hadn't been there in a month, but not his. I'm pretty sure in order to graduate he must finish that project in time.
Thats several thousand dollars he likely flushed down the drain. Well deserved for a scummy manipulator like him.
Moral of the story: don't get mad, get even. It came out over time how little work he had done. It didn't require any of specifically telling on him, the teachers asked and we answered honestly. Never stand up for someone who is trying to take advantage of you. Don't worry about planning some Edgar Allen Poe kind of revenge. Make that motherfucker reveal themselves, expose their bullshit, because the truth is far and away the worst punishment for a liar. :)4
Introducing Marvel's newest anti-hero...Threadpool. He can do three things at once...I never said it was a big thread pool. He must get revenge on his nemesis Task Manager with the help of his side kick Q.
So, sometime ago, Elon musk proposed a website that ranks news sources.
How about a website where we rate recruiters and black list those inhuman ones like the guy who sent an email saying you're legally not allowed to work for anyone else and 750 month pay for 40 hours a week.
A public spam filter, like ads or spam emails, but from disrespectful recruiters
That way recruiters feel more scared and improve their behaviors against programmers from all levels and everyone can have better experience during job search.
(I mean I'm sure these recruiters got some blacklist of their own, right?)3
This happened a while back but thought it would be an interesting story.
So there is this guy, I'll call him Jack. Jack was a weirdo. He just graduated high school but thought of himself as very hot in terms of dev skills. He boasted lots of good programs, that are the best in industry, except they don't work (like the best proven file compressor, that just can't decompress anything because of some "bugs"). He also entered language holy wars quite actively, saying that Delphi is the best platform ever.
Aaanyway, a couple of years pass. Jack is now a student. Jack tries to make some money, so he talks to some guy, that offers him a "job" at the tax office, where he has to modernize the data infrastructure of the tax authorities. If you think this sounds very wrong, then you're 100% correct. But it gets better. After 2 months of work, the guy manages to do that. It's a simple CRUD application after all.
So everything works, but the guy who gave him this job refused to pay. He stalled and then just stopped answering the phone. Jack is now furious. So what he does, is publish the databases online, so everyone could see the income of every citizen. Authorities are in panic. They send the police to his door. They seize his computer and lock him up for a few days.
To sum it all up: Jack took up a job, without any contract, without any NDA, which is completely illegal in of itself, but he did that with the tax authority. And delivered the product before getting paid. And when he understood that he was owned, he published all online. He got bit back. The guy who gave him this job had no consequences for illegally hiring someone and not paying for their work.
Lesson: Don't be Jack11
When everything goes normal the whole day then suddenly you level up to enterprise edition development 😂😂😂8
Probably more of a revenge story,
I've been underpaid during my first job, so I made myself indispensable, working tirelessly despite the small wage, until I am the sole developer responsible for all front end matters.
Then when the time is right, I left the company like I have no regards for money, leaving behind all my "legacy". Undocumented codes, "unconventional" naming, and bunch of stuff no other present devs could decipher.
Are there any website or public list that shame companies and websites for sending passwords in plaintext whenever we tend to reset the password?6
What a fu*#king stupid landlord. They got my devrant poster by mail and opened it. Not only that, they posted it on their wall for fun. YOU FU*#KING C*NTS24
So the HR person who made my life hell about 2 years ago, got fired immediately before the Corona-madness started. And they are still unemployed. Karma is such a glorious bitch.5
Just a reminder.
If you've been coding/studying/working/dealing with shit/stressed out/mentally broken/dead from the inside/fighting for your goal and not working out and so on all year long.
The whole Microsoft office suite is being rewritten in React.js
This. Is. Not. A. Joke.
This also includes Skype, Ms teams, all office programs on all platforms, AND, VS Code....
Guys, we have trully peaked... gg....13
During QA for a huge project when our dev team was confident of the stability of the project, We started introducing small bugs, QA team use to raise bugs in Jira, we marked them as not reproducible.
Frustrated QA started coming to our cubes - at this point dev team worked in a perfect coordination like a man to man marking in hockey. While one dev asked QA guy to reproduce the bug in front of him while the other dev has already fixed it.
Continued for a couple of days till our team lead was satisfied with the revenge.
The exit interview with an ex boss.
While working there, we had regular meetings every other week. Discussing current work, equipment requests, technology, sometimes office politics. At some point we discussed that our team was moved to an open-plan office and how I regarded this as detrimental to our productivity and satisfaction. Of course we sometimes had different opinions, but it was an amicable atmosphere. My boss also always carried a personal organizer and sometimes wrote notes during these meetings.
Later I resigned. Him becoming more and more abusive was a major reason, and I think he knew he had crossed a line. So the day of the exit interview came...
In a professional setting, you'd thank each other for the good collaboration. Maybe laugh about one or two points from the past. And then wish each other success for the future and say farewell.
Not there. Not with him in the exit interview.
Instead, he apparently went through a list in his personal organizer. A list of every single thing we ever disagreed at. And roasted me for each. single. item. "Back when you said x... you can't really say it like that". Or "remember that time when you were against open-plan offices? Let me tell you, that's just your opinion. There are no actual arguments against them, it's just a matter of taste". And that went on and on and on. Like a final reckoning. Like he needed to get revenge. I hope that carnage made him happy, because it made *me* happy to have had resigned.
And it was fucking unprofessinal, because this is the management equivalent of stomping your foot in rage and anger, shouting "no no nooo I'm right! I! am! Riiiiiiight! *stomp*".6
Fun day, lots of relief and catharsis!
Client I was wanting to fire has apparently decided that the long term support contract I knew was bullshit from go will instead be handled by IBM India and it's my job to train them in the "application." Having worked with this team (the majority of whom have been out of university for less than a year), I can say categorically that the best of them can barely manage to copy and paste jQuery examples from SO, so best of fucking luck.
I said, "great!," since I'd been planning on quitting anyways. I even handed them an SOW stating I would train them for 2 days on the application's design and structure, and included a rider they dutifully signed that stated, "design and structure will cover what is needed to maintain the application long term in terms of its basic routing, layout and any 'pages' that we have written for this application. The client acknowledges that 3rd party (non-[us]) documentation is available for the technologies used, but not written by [us], effective support of those platforms will devolve to their respective vendors on expiry of the current support contract."
Contract in hand, and client being too dumb to realize that their severing of the maintenance agreement voids their support contract, I can safely share what's not contractually covered:
- Stream based programming
- Angular 9
- Any of the APIs
- Dotnet core
- pretty much anything not in a commit
I'm a little giddy just thinking about the massive world of hurt they've created for themselves. Couldn't have happened to nicer assholes.6
I had a coworker that was a real asshole. I noticed that often, during git merges, he removed part of the code I wrote.
So I had to spend a lot of time copying and pasting my code from git history in order to restore it.
I complained about that but he answered it happened by mistake. In reality that happened so often that he had to done it deliberately.
Btw, I did a little revenge. One day I discovered he didn't feel very comfortable using recursion. Thereafter, every time I needed a small loop I created a recursive function doing the same thing.
Fortunately, after some months I found a better job. I hope he is still debugging that code.4
'Member when we were used to Internet explorer back in the Windows XP era and when we download stuff we always used to click run and never care about something called downloads folder and the only issue was that the temp folder used to fill our damn hard drives very quickly?
This isn't as much of a rant as the story of my worst abuse of computer knowledge.
This happened a couple years ago. When I was in high school, I had this friend/enemy relationship with this guy, lets call him Thomas. He loved to pull pranks on people. He had a similar firend/enemy relationship with my brother, and after one prank, my brother decided to get revenge. And by revenge, he meant asking me to make a virus.
I knew the guy, and I agreed. We thought about what type of virus we could make that would be funny, and not too damaging. We decided on a program that would play annoying sound effects every few minutes. Short enough to be noticable, long enough that Thomas would give up and not try to investigate.
I won't bore you with the details of the program. It was a very simple C app, very small, named "Counter-Strike-Global-Offence-Free-Download-Totally-Legit.exe". It was clearly visible in task manager, but since it was so small and barely used CPU or RAM it would stay near the bottom. I tried loading a custom sound effect, but it turned out the windows default "invalid sound effect" was much more annoying than any custom sound I could find.
The "Infecting" portion consisted of moving the .exe to the start menu startup folder while Thomas left his laptop unattended. My brother handled this part.
I unfortunaly left the country soon after and never actually saw the effect the program had on Thomas. I assumed my brothers laughing would give it away rather fast and he could simply remove it from his startup folder. However, my brother told me he still complained about it for months, before finally bringing the laptop to a repair center that found the totally legit CS:GO exe. My brother ended up telling him soon after, but this was still the best prank I ever pulled.
If your colleague is irritating you too much and you want to take a revenge.
Then just type chmod 777 -R /
in the terminal and press enter.
See what happens later.8
I solemnly swear I won't help anyone no more.

I solemnly swear I won't help anyone no more.
I solemnly swear I won't help anyone no more.
I solemnly swear I won't help anyone no more.

After months of googling and troubleshooting my router settings trying to figure out why my port forwarding settings are not working only to realize that I'M BEING CGNATTED TO OBLIVION BY MY FUCKING ISP WITHOUT A FUCKING NOTICE!
After I did some work on this nightmare codebase, the client kept switching goals. He Changed the task a few times, so I always told him that he will have to pay for all changes.
After a time he requested another change, so I stated that he has to pay the first invoice I sent him first. He started bitching around, that I didn't complete the work yet and so on. I saw where this was going. He didn't wanted to pay me, so I cancelled the work for this bitch.

Swedish client is unable to enter a currency conversion rate in a field and submit. 'Not a float' well we can clearly see that it is a float when he does it (0.5 for example), not an issue for us though.
Reproducing was a nightmare, eventually it boiled down to the fact that the framework we were using had automatic locale checks. Now because our numeric fields are actually weird text fields (front end nonsense), it was converting the period to be a comma (Swedish people would write 0,5 normally). And if you actually entered 0,5 the range check (0.01-1000) failed because it couldn't parse the comma (no locale check on that one)
Godamn facepalm. Really confused the hell out of us when we saw the error, had to go diving through library code. To top this off, locale checks are supposed to be disabled as of about 2 years ago
In revenge against our oppressor :PHP: on slack is now an alias for the shit emoji5

Fresh internship story (Part 3)
Turns out my coworker with a mental disorder(adhs and idk what you call it. He is 24 years old, but is mentally between 16 and 18) is gay.
ATTENTION: DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER SINCE THIS IS GOING TO GET DISGUSTING!
My cheap coworker's name is Justin btw. I felt a weird atmosphere when I joined the team. Justin seemed to be a hetero guy. (I am generally assuming that every guy and girl I met is hetero). But he had his slightly "gay moves".
Yesterday, I was curious about it and asked him about why he was afraid about the police to identify him on a video to start the conversation. He told me that his ex did cheat on him. Since I assumed that he was hetero I asked if the girl was cheating on him. He got embarrassed.
him:"I uhmm... am... not hetero. I am...*stops talking*"
me:"What? Are you bi? Are you gay? What are you?"
him:"I am gay."
me:"Oh... *tries to hide the shock* I see.*silence for a minute*"
me:"What is the name of your ex?"
Justin:"Fabian. Fabian had a video and pictures of me and he put them online and did spread them with everyone. After that I got punched by some dudes. Now I want to take my revenge."
me:"... well... now that makes sense.*silence*"
I felt sorry for him and decided to keep listening. I made a wrong decision there.
2 hours later he told me how he got gay, because I wanted to know if he was born gay or if he became gay.
He told me his whole life was full of sex.
He found a sextape of his parents and jerked off to it without cuming since he did not even hit puberty yet. Then he had sex with a 6 year old girl and then with a 12 year old girl when he was 8 or something in both cases.
Later he got into a place full of guys.
He first started jerking off to hetero porn among the dudes. I wonder how he got no shame while doing it. Anyways, after that he began to feel something for boys and less for girls since boys were able to understand him more than girls. Then he became gay and his sex life with boys started.
It was very disgusting, but I wanted to know it.
*he keeps talking about how Fabian fucked him outside in the bushes and I keep ignoring him*8
// TODO: Obligatory May the 4th pun something something date formats argument
Revenge of the fifth tomorrow!
There is just one thing that's been haunting me.
That I have yet to succeed at doing.
That I have yet to understand it's mazehole.
That I failed me as a developer.
How in the FUCK do I create my own mail server with my own domain name? HOW? JUST FUCKING HOWWWWW
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE SECRET!
WHAT AM I MISSING!!!!!
(no don't tell me about any of those office 365/GoDaddy/Windows bullshit, just guide me with something normal)8
Worst hackathon experience? Going to one where you must only use app inventor 2 and my team didnt know jackshit, no understanding and rest or anything else, then in the end another team did something similar to us, so during presentation they thought we somehow copied them, we lost terribly, never again.1
Everything works fine until your manager starts looking at your code and all of a sudden your screen starts interacting with your manager- "Here is a bug there is a bug and you have got a lazy developer who ignores me like a dumb."
And I am here like wtf ... Wasn't it working fine earlier...
Manager in anger... Me in shock and code is totally in revenge mode...
Oh god... turn this Monday back to Sunday!!!
Scary Monday story begins....
Aight devs, let's start a war.
Throw at me your best UI framework yet.
Anything (except game engines), cross platform preferable.
++ for why and how easy/hard to learn.26
I just spent my day analyzing module interdependencies in our project. Amfter comming up with a way to graph said dependencies using an analisys tool and some custom filtering, and comming up with suggestions for breaking unwanted dependencies, i get this as a review comment: " yeah, I don't reaaly trust that the graphs are showing the whole picture. Use <gradle dependencies> on each service instead". The lunatic actually expected me to sift through all of our services, by hand, and run that command and analyse the result, wich is a great wall of text.
Joke's on him though. I wrote a script that did all of that for me and captured the results. Then i just sent it to him. If he's so unsure, then he can sift through the wall of text himself.
Even funnier is the fact that tomorrow is the last day before i go on leave. He'll probably end up doing the actual cleanup himself. 😂
I don't want to seem stuck up but, at the moment, there are several other priorities higher than this refactor, yet management is insisting that this is a must have for go live, so I have to commit.
What would you rather have, an app that works, or perfectly neat and tidy, broken, code?6
I hate, I really really hate other students leaving their homeworks and assignments on the school's computers, they clutter everything and bloat the desktop with garbage, at least have some decency and put it inside a folder!
Today I got welcomed by another of those desktops and I decided to give them some help with their assignments, i.e I changed their python scripts for improvised Ackerman functions.7
I've made a route in our API called /API/teapot that returns 418. That was my revenge for them screwing me so much!3
When your network admin doesnt realize you are a developer and get paid to fix problems. Tries to change your background to Justin(e) Bieber with group policies and you overwrite them in the registry. Now to plot revenge...3
Have you ever been so confused with the professor requirements for a Java requirement that you had to decompiled his fucking example only to realize he went COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT ROUTE THAT THE BLACK ASSHOLE HE REQUESTED? GOD I FUCKING WANT TO THROW THROW MY MACBOOK AT HIM, IM HERE AT THE UNIVERSITY FOR 12 HOURS, ITS FUCKING 5 AM RIGHT NOW, THE SUN IS FUCKING RISING AND THERE IS LIGHT IN THE SKY TELLING ME TO KILL MYSELF LIKE JESUS CHRIST WHAT AM I A CODESLAVE NOW? FUCK.
FYI, there's also an addition of 7 students with me too, we're doomed.3
My shortest naps are giving me the worst nightmares where I wake up before the alarm. These mostly consist of violence around. People running in groups with HUGE rocks to thrash onto others, violence on a daughter by her own family, people completely destroying terrace walls.
This needs to stop somehow. It is clearly influenced by the things happening around the world right now. I just don't understand how will we ever reach a point where there is enough peace. A point where humanity can be understood without baseless justifications.
Being a hothead maybe doesn't mean you need to heat it up every time before using it. Anger against any injustice can be put to really good use. But going around destructing someone's mental health or physical belongings and then later faking regret after knowing the truth is 😔
Please. "Look before you leap." OR if you've already leapt, think twice of the outcomes and what lead you to doing something so disturbing, so easily. Sincere apologies could convince the affected person to not jump off the cliff.
I swear the affected ones can be capable of equally powerful and destructive revenge. But they somehow manage to take the "there must be a reason" path and choose to see the good in everything. Sadly, this certainly starts with home.6
It was the last year of high school.
We had to submit our final CS homework, so it gets reviewed by someone from the ministry of education and grade it. (think of it as GPA or whatever that is in your country).
Now being me, I really didn’t do much during the whole year, All I did was learning more about C#, more about SQL, and learn from the OGs like thenewboston, derek banas, and of course kudvenkat. (Plus more)
The homework was a C# webform website of whatever theme you like (mostly a web store) that uses MS Access as DB and a C# web service in SOAP. (Don’t ask.)
Months have passed, and only had 2 days left to deadline, with nothing on my hand but website sketches, sample projects for ideas, and table schematics.
I went ahead and started to work on it, for 48 hours STRAIGHT.
No breaks, barely ate, family visited and I barely noticed, I was just disconnected from reality.
48 hours passed and finished the project, I was quite satisfied with my it, I followed the right standards from encrypting passwords to verifying emails to implementing SQL queries without the risk of SQL injection, while everyone else followed foot as the teacher taught with plain text passwords and… do I need to continue? You know what I mean here.
Anyway, I went ahead and was like, Ok, lets do one last test run, And proceeded into deleting an Item from my webstore (it was something similar to shopify).
I refreshed. Nothing. Blank page. Just nothing. Nothing is working, at all.
Went ahead to debug almost everywhere, nothing, I’ve gone mad, like REALLY mad and almost lose it, then an hour later of failed debugging attempts I decided to rewrite the whole project from scratch from rebuilding the db, to rewriting the client/backend code and ui, and whatever works just go with it.
Then I noticed a loop block that was going infinite.
NEVER WAIT FOR A DATABASE TO HAVE MINIMUM NUMBER OF ROWS, ALWAYS ASSUME THAT IT HAS NO VALUES. (and if your CPU is 100%, its an infinite loop, a hard lesson learned)
The issue was that I requested 4 or more items from a table, and if it was less it would just loop.
So I went ahead, fixed that and went to sleep.
The day has come, the guy from the ministry came in and started reviewing each one of the students homeworks, and of course, some of the projects crashed last minute and straight up stopped working, it's like watching people burning alive.
My turn was up, he came and sat next to me and was like:
Him: Alright make me an account with an email of email@example.com with a password 123456
Me: … that won't work, got a real email?
Him: What do you mean?
Me: I implemented an email verification system.
Him: … ok … just show me the website.
Me: Alright as you can see here first of all I used mailgun service on a .tk domain in order to send verification emails you know like every single website does, encrypted passwords etc… As you can see this website allows you to sign up as a customer or as a merc…
Him: Good job.
He stood up and moved on.
I WENT THROUGH HELL IN THE PAST 48 HOURS.
AND YOU JUST SAT THERE FOR A MINUTE AND GAVE UP ON REVIEWING MY ENTIRE MASTERPIECE? GO SWIM IN A POOL FULL OF BURNING OIL YOU COUNTLESS PIECE OF SHIT
I got 100/100 in the end, and I kinda feel like shit for going thought all that trouble for just one minute of project review, but hey at least it helped me practice common standards.2
wow just wow ! just got turned my home internet off by the cable company. And they are right to do !
I apparently didn't sent them their money. But why didn't I ?
Im the typo guy who likes a bill in any type and then pay it. Sorry for beein old fashioned there. Now this lack of human intelligence aka. my postman didn't brought me them. Instead I always receive others Bills and shit( ok sometimes he drops it right ). Does he think the people
in this house live in a fuckin hippie community or some
shit where we all are one system. WTF ????
But my revenge will come you giant shitpile, except from reporting you to your office.
You FUCKED with my internet connection. That's personal2
It's been confirmed the DDoS attack on DYN that affected Github, Amazon, etc was perpetrated by supporters of Wikileaks for "revenge" for Julian Assange8
Sometimes I wish that Google would let me set a flag like -defaultProgrammingLanguage so I stop correcting it everytime it gives me something different from than target language...2
Is it a good idea to hack the website of my previous condescending and irrational boss? and do social media attacks on their online pages as well?10
I'm surprised how there's not much discussion about E3 here
What are your thoughts on the surprises of this day?4
Dear every app developer or web managers/designers that can read this.
Specificly, the ones who own a android app.
If you have an old android app that is still updated from time to time.
Please, take your time for just one minute.
AND REPLACE YOUR GOD DAMN OLD "Get it on google play" BADGE WITH THE NEW ONE, PLEASE! ITS NOT THAT HARD, WHY ARE YOU GUYS NEVER UPDATE TO NEW LOGOS?!
NOT JUST OLD APPS, EVEN SOME BEW STARTUPS ARE ACTUALLY USING THE OLD BADGE, WHY OH DEAR GOD WHY! WERE YOU LIVING UNDER ECLIPSE ROCK OR SOMETHING?!?1
Revenge of the developer.
After our project consultants aren't good at planning projects I started my revenge. They will get soon a heart attack or paranoia...
Every time I need something from them (cause they missed it in the specs) and see them at the end of the floor. I stealth in their room and stand behind their door. When they are sitting, the door is closing mystically and I step to them. The faces are hilarious. That's my way to teach them to write better Specs :)
being the good guy that I am I was helping out a family member over the phone. Frozen computer was the verdict... Eventually it turned out the computer wasn't frozen at all, the batteries of the magic mouse had died... thanks for wasting my valuable time! I then told em I would only help if they used cables for everything, including wifi. It took 3 weeks for them to realise Wifi cables don't exist. revenge can be satisfying sometimes!1
Dear CS students, and everyone in general
How do you deal with:
- Pressure (like having to turn in 5 homeworks and sometimes not having the time to do all of them right)
- The idea that you think you don't know shit at the end of course thinking you've done nothing but wasting time
- Severe depression from thinking that you're not studying right while looking at other people studying and doing better than you, and depression in general4
Revenge is best served cold
It had been over 7 weaks since Microsoft was prompting me to restart my system to update Windows.
Today, they took over.
30 mins and still I'm looking at screen waiting to finish updates.9
How do I get thru tough dev days?
1. Home/Family. Amazing how family can put real problems into perspective.
2. Plot revenge. Just plotting, nothing too evil.
3. Star Wars Battlefront. V1 on the PC because I'm too cheap for the PS4 (or XBox) and the $60 a year for PS+ just so I can play online.
Dear @dfox and @trogus
I'm writing this here because reporting such issue to GitHub doesn't seem to do it's justice.
It's been happening for like HALF A YEAR.
AND IT'S YET TO BE PATCHED.
WHY. WHEN I CLICK THE BACK BUTTON ON MY PIXEL 2 XL (ANDROID 9). ALWAYS CLOSES THE APP?!?!?
Yes, this is a rant about DevRant, I have no complaints other than this exact one.
It's been happening for way way WAY too long, and never been patched.
Please don't reply to me "why don't you report it on GitHub?" ITS BEEN REPORTED OK?!
I've always loved DevRant since I first joined, but this issue is preventing me from browsing it every time. It's jus irritating.
Please, @dfox and @trogus, try and for once take the time to try and fix it.
MacBook died, currently in the lab, have a TERRIBLE dual core T4200, 3GB ram temp laptop replacement with VISTA.
Which Linux OS should I replace it for Dev/uni sake for few days? Considering that I don't have too much time on my hand to fix the tiniest headaches that comes after a Linux installation.
Like I'm looking for a distro that just works and is good.12
Stackoverflow moderator election, time to down vote those who are going mark our question as duplicate!
Playing Battle Royal with friends, had to leave 2 of 4 teammates behind as the play area was shrinking and they couldn't be rescued. The 4th player ran me over with a game car just to get revenge for our other team mates.
With me alive we actually had a fighting chance to win the round. (8 kill streak and lots of ammo with a decent tactical position) ....but NOoo the fucker thought it more sweet to kill me rather than help me win the round!
Fuck this shit, I'm out!1
So I ended up going with antergos and xfce DE on a cheapo 4gb ram i5 laptop.
It works, sometimes it hangs because of ram, but the thing that is infurating me the most is javaFX with animation loop (school course) whenever I run it, it works for a minute then oh good fucking Lord what happened to you!!!
It hangs, mouse doesn't work, and it takes like 10 minutes for it to respond back and somehow forcefully close the application, running that with task manager asude, I don't see anything critical, unless I'm reading this wrong
CPU averages around 10% and sometimes spikes to 70% few times
Ram is around 50%, swap is 50% too
What could the issue be in this case? I'm sure running the whole thing on windows this wouldn't have happened, what am I missing here?3
I refer back to earlier rants. But essentially, this guy lied about having a com sci degree. Didn't know how JS works, didn't know how vcs works, didn't know how to tie his own shoes. Proceeds to repeatedly clobber the work I do, which frankly, was the only real work being done in the whole group at all. Commits old and irrelevant work just to appear in the commit history. Then, he has the audacity to accuse me of not being good at dealing with people.
Finally decided to tell the instructor what had been happening. Then I proceeded to get frantic messages repeatedly from this fucker for the next week after class as he desperately attempted to salvage his grade. I'm pretty sure he failed. All in all, I'd say wait til the last minute to get revenge sometimes, then the person you're fucking with doesn't have time to react.
iPad + Apple pencil ONLY for note taking during lectures
Yay or nay?
Got any other combos that arent ms surface with a pen? (Bad experience cause of ssd failures)
Or what about those Wacom tablets? Are they even good in terms of pen to screen response latency?
Educate me if you saw me as an ignorant piece of f but are there any tablet with stylus pen support that are almost input-lag free like the apple pencil with iPad? I once tried it in the store and boi did it truly impress me, also I haven't seen anything else close to it, I tried the Samsung ones, they didn't look to me as fast as the apple pencils
Do you have like out-of-the-box ideas that are not pen and paper? Do write them down8
My Project Lead got me to work overtime, I was doing 150% of what I was supposed to do.
After 4 months of tremendous working and smart planning, I planted a small bug in the software we build, and used that to exploit the Software yesterday morning, and today by 3 PM (Our Usual. Lunch Time), He was fired.
Finally, that donkey is fired and now he must rotten in hell, yeah, he got that stamp on his resume for being fired.
Now I am feeling guilty that I have almost ruined his career (30%), but I am happy, that rascal got what he deserved (70%). Yay!4
READ the README (Fool Edition)
"This repository is no longer maintained. If anyone wants to continue work on Particleground I recommend creating your own fork. Thanks to those who contrinuted to this project."
It is clear that the dev wants to pass the development to someone who wants to continue the development. That'a why I create a repo and revive it! I develop, add building process and fix bugs.
I posted it on social media asking my friends to use my project in their site. They start to use it. There many links going back to original author even in the production file.
A bullshit appear on my sight when someone report it to me that this bullshit is ranting me on social media. He telling people that I copy, change variable and asking for donation for the repo I revive. How bullshit is that?
I create a post for saying that I never steal code without credits. As I said above I just revive a dead repo. I dont steal or leech any code. Now, I contacted the author of original project asking to make things official.
Now, I replied on his comment and saying "bro did you read the README?" He might not aware that I revive a project not stealing it.
That bullshit dont know how to read README.md all info is indicated there.
I dont wanna disclose the project.4
Revenge and breakups dont make one a criminal. BUT, when you have written about 10k lines of code and someone come and says "It took so much time to add just one button", DOES! -_-
I'm trying to make a choice, a choice that won't make me regret it for the few years advanced, I'm in a dilemma, I don't know which MacBook should I get for my everyday life, I currently work as an iOS developer (Learned iOS using all kinds hackintoshes, yeah I never bought a single apple computer, yet), and always have motivation to learn new stuff (from machine learning, to web development, to making games with unity (or whatever engine), hell I even like to design stuff from time to time using Photoshop, sketch, I sometimes do video editing using premiere and after effects), and I yet have to choose which laptop to get, I got only one week to make the choice so...
Here are the options:
The new MacBook Pro 2016 (Touch Bar edition):
Pros: 'Latest' and 'greatest', have thunderbolt ports which makes it (sort of) future proof, TouchId for unlocking the laptop using a fingerprint.
Cons: You need a damn dongle everywhere, no escape key (Which I use for the autocomplete feature in Xcode), and this touch bar (Which I really have no idea if i will ever use it other than the nyan cat app for 5 minutes), plus I heard about battery issues with it (don't know if they resolved it or not), fucking huge trackpad, and no fucking MagSafe!
The previous model MacBook Pro 2015:
Pros: Ports, lots of them, small trackpad (Which you don't have to worry about your palm screwing up your work), and MagSafe! (Which I honestly don't know if it'll make any difference for my usage)
Cons: has old CPU from Haswell generation (I know that it won't feel different, it's just that I like to have parts that are the 'latest')
Now some questions, for people who have the old MacBooks and new MacBooks:
For the ones with old MacBook:
If you were given the choice to replace the old MacBook for the new one for free, would you go for it?
After all this time, how's the battery performance? is it still great from the time you bought it?
Foe the ones with new MacBook:
Does the huge-ass trackpad interfere your work day?
Do you miss magsafe to a point where you really want to throw out the new laptop and go back to previous model?
Did you get used to carry out dongles everywhere?
Did you like the TouchBar? Does it help you in your everyday work? from designing to coding to whatever, do you think that now you can't live without it?
How's the battery performance?
Is programming on it joyable? or the new keyboard and touchpad are just a meh?
Strawpoll to make it easier to vote:
In addition to that I would love that you guys detail me your experience and answer some questions that I posted above, I would be very, very grateful.2
I don't know if we already had a weekly rant about petty revenge or anything, but I did just pull some petty bullshit maybe 30 minutes ago.
A couple people I know are trying to start a clothing brand (think I posted something about it on here before) and asked me to build the website cause one of them found out I write code. (Well, he asked if I was good with computers and I told him that I am, and he basically said "you're building our website then")
Basically these people are..not good people. One of them has a history of sexually harassing girls (some of which are really close friends of mine), the other one is basically following in his footsteps. They also like to go to the parking lot of an elementary school (the one that my little sister goes to actually) and get high.
Both of them have fucked me over at some point in the few years I've known them. And so now my silent indirect petty revenge begins. Earlier I bought the domain name for the online store they're trying to (make me) build. Considering having the site redirect to a gay porn site.
One of them is currently getting into shit having to do with drugs, which is not my doing, but I can probably find a way to get them into trouble. Especially the fact that they're doing drugs in the parking lot of an elementary school. That shit's just fucked up, no exceptions.
Anyone have any suggestions for shit I could do to them?2
*LookAtCalendar* 1st april already done this year...
I would suggest to use the function to set a "mentally challenged"-flag on the user profile.
Let's hope the developers behind that idea are still lying under their desks laughing their asses off.3
What does it take for one to design his/her own laptop completely from scratch?
*If you answer me it's not worth my time, then please don't waste your time answering.*19
so today was my physics exam(optics and optical devices) and this weird thing happened..
and before i get to tell you what happened , 2 months ago another set of examinations were going on and there is this attendance sheet that we have to fill up with a code provided on the answer sheet and signature. It has 2 columns(code and signature) and 5 rows(5 exams) and every student has his 5 rows unseparated by any space. So i filled the code and realized that i have filled it in the wrong area(last row of the guy before me). As it was first exam , i just cut it and thought its no big deal. In last exam ,this guy asks me "what have you done?" so i said its no big deal just write the code on the side. He said ok that was it(i thought)
now getting to what happened today, again it was our last exam , i got the attendance sheet and what do i see, this guy ahead of me filled up the code in my area and cut it. At first i thought ok maybe he was mistaken but then i realised that this is our last exam and we already have 4 signatures so how could he not see the difference between the signatures.
So he did that on purpose?
what kind of moron does that?
well maybe he felt delighted by doing this. idk too much weird for one day.1
If you're planning on buying a MacBook and WWDC is ≤ 4 or ≤ 5 months away, JUST WAIT FOR IT.
Bought min almost 2 weeks before wwdc, and turns out they made a refresh of the same model...
I had this dream, We had to destroy this super mainframe who wanted some revenge because we as a programmers made a lot of mistakes in the code.
So we had to create this amazing machine with super powers and machine learning and then to go back to the past to save the world and to find me and protect me from the same machines that we created..
At the end, I died.. because the fucking machine betrayed me.1
If you backed something, and they ask you to provide a name to include in their special thanks would you:
- Use your full name for whatever the outcome will be (successful project or just a terrible failure)
- Use a nickname (Like this one on devRant)2
A Dell laptop, specifically the Inspiron one, they never sleep, so I had to do the crime, multiple times a day, it craps itself, it's AMD chip is shit, it's drivers are the word, and last but not least, this laptop was replaced like 6 FUCKING TIMES, and sometimes I used to be in critical situations where I had to use a laptop and guess what, it didn't want to turn on.
So dell, never again.
One day, I was traveling back home from college, and had my laptop in my bag, and guess what I found out when I got home, the plastic parts in the bag fucking melted, ruined my notebooks, and my bag.
Not to mention it's terrible performance thanks to it's drivers while developing shit with Android studio, you know how it is.
In short, don't buy a Dell product. Ever.4
ROFL! Question on Quora: "Is SAP Germany's revenge for losing WWII?" https://quora.com/Is-SAP-Germanys-r...
P.S. Nice and funny answers, too.
P.P.S. I can understand frustration. ;)1
Virtual reality home entertainment gear is humanity's revenge against domestic cats who have purposefully stared on empty spots on the wall for centuries.1
Don't drink and CTF
I feel boiling right now after immense pressure and pouring all my energy for this
So you guys know how universities can sometimes have TERRIBLE old software that hasn't been updated for years, and sometimes you want to do a specific process over and over again so you end up automating it, now, we've built a tool that automates downloading projects from the University Moodle website, and we would like to publish it for other students to use.
The University is using SSO.
And so far we've made the application to work by observing the network connections over the Android app version in order to extract the cookie session, now imagine that we publish this little tool, and tell people to do those exact steps, of course it's impractical and misses the whole point of the tool itself for being easy to use.
So, where can I read more about SSO, how can I figure out what the University uses? And if I had to reverse engineer this, where should I start? (It goes over 4 pages and I'm not able to capture those requests to even figure out what's going on)
In short is there a guide where you take a university SSO service and build on top of it? I couldn't find anything that is helpful.
Why is it that windows 10's network adapter takes so fucking long in order to work and connect to the internet!!
Does anyone know a way to trace back what's causing it? And why it takes like full 15 minutes for the Ethernet or wifi drivers to even work? (I'm not even sure if this is something with the drivers or the way windows's network adapter way of working)
I couldn't find Jack shit on the internet (most of them are ghetto do this and that and hope it works) I want something more advanced so I can figure out for once why this happens on numerous windows computers
(Linux people, I understand you, please don't rant your stuff here, this is a bit serious issue, thx)6
Okay, so there's this guy in my school who's an asshole. Everybody hates him. Even the teachers. But specially me. This bastard keeps messing with me. So one day I decided to take revenge shot. I was learning game development with unity at the time. So, I made a game on him. For androids. I was only a beginner, so the game was not as good as i expected but did the job. I shared the game with some friends over Google Drive.
Its been two weeks now and almost all my seniors now know me. They really liked the game. People probably just passed on the link to their friends.
Here's a link if wanna check it out:
What do you guys think of forced linters (checkStyle) on java assignments?
At this University we have a submission system that checks for your code where if a line didn't match the coding specification then it's an instant zero.
Being experienced in programming before going to a university, this somewhat surprised me, it also has unit tests implemented in it where it checks against input and output.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Is it too much for people who unlike me never seen code before? Or let them have hell and understand how to deal with it? I personally think it's too much for beginners.3
Best book/source for learning everything devops'y'/kubernetes?
(Given that I have some sort of experience in Dockers, hosting websites and know a fracture of aws archeticture, but lack in good "cloud" thinking skills, scalability, understanding costs for production applications, cluster size, etc...)
Is there any kind of protocol/method where I can use something like docker containers in order to "host" compilers like gcc and use that with vscode to compile and assemble source code?
No I'm not talking about volumes (it's a bit tedious if I want to use it to manage numerous projects)3
And so this morning we put aside our usual daily activities for a while, and gather here to give expression to the thoughts and feelings that well up in us at this time of loss.
And also because in one-way or another,
GitHub's sudden acquisition
Affecting all of us.
Please raise your glasses as we drink a toast to the memory of such a splendid tool, that we know without a doubt, will never be the same as we know it right now.2
It's 3AM and here I am trying to fix the mess that I made last night when I was drunk and the deadline is 12PM (only 9 hours left).. You don't but if you do know how do I kill my boss so that I would look like a bug from a software made by our company killed him to take revenge of killing the bugs?1
How to get a revenge for a shitty company owner that was interviewing you when you were a junior and acting like he was something bigger than you.
step 1. visit their website
step 2. click on contact
step 3. realise that contact page is working with ajax and no google capcha is available
step 5. activate the script in console so it will fill the fields and click the 'submit' button for you every 50 nanoseconds.
step 6. profit??9
Where can I find those types of "homework assignments" where let's say a company sends you a sample project and asks you to add few features where in that way you learn new technology in a practical way?
I know there are some public "homework assignments" projects from Wix where you're given a sample project that uses let's say react framework and typescript where you have to learn react and add features and send it.
These projects IMO are the best way to learn new technologies fast instead of going through the documentation and figuring wth are they talking about before you realize the full potential.
Are there any of those "awesome lists" in GitHub or something? No I'm not talking about "algorithms and data structures" type of thing, I'm talking real practical samples that I can learn from and extend it.1
Let's say that you have (or had) a colleague that you utterly despise for whatever reason. Have you ever wrote convoluted or straight up spaghetti code on purpose just to make his/her life harder?
(I am aware that authoring bad code can bite you in the ass down the line, just curious to see if anyone ever went that far)
Is there any UI/UX book that is as good as some well known CS books? (Like CS:APP, intro to algo, detailed AF), That teaches you abstractions and goes into details with zero bullshit? Online courses don't do it's justice...2
A lot of you here rant about devs being arogant or expecting you to think for a little bit with own head and then write a proper string that will help dev answer straightforward without guessing what the author smoked or so for which there's even a tutorial made (wasn't there always). But I don't see any rants about the other side of the coin.
Let's say you are a random dude, not even that arogant type. You see a question, no answers, everyone piss on that question because it's just a mess. Yet you find yourself in a good mood, so let's help the poor soul with th trouble. Answer like from a book for kids, fully explained example and...
No points, no accepted answer, but not even any feedback! Was my answer wrong? Did I miss something? How can I improve it? Was the example too complicated?
This is exactly the type of idiot that deserves a kick in the ass. It's no site, for hanging spam! Why the hell does that kind of idiot think there's even an option for own answer? People will come back to the question eventually and what will they found? An answer, which probably isn't even correct!
(not really talking about a specific answer/question, so no need to search)
If I'm at the library.
And there are Ethernet ports.
Desktop computers are connected to it and working fine.
But when I try to unplug it and connect my laptop with it it's just doesn't work, as if it says there is no Ethernet connection at all.
What are some of the reasons for such thing?
Do I have to look up specific IP configuration and configure it on my laptop?
Do these windows domain system matter?
How can I get started figuring why it says it's that there's no connection in the first place?
The librarians know Jack shit about why it's not working.
And I can't find the technician contact address to ask him/her/them directly.
WiFi works fine, but slow, Ethernet connections has a gigabit connection. (I believe that should explain why I want to use that instead)6
Alright sure this quarintine time would go with no issues... Right?
*Waits 30 seconds*
*Page loads without the logo*
*Searches about a problem I have*
*Wait another 60 seconds*
*Page loads with no results*
*Waits another 40 seconds*
*Now there are links*
*Clicks on the first link*
Yep.... Fun shit.4
I thought it would be a great course, learn some of the stuff that I always read about but couldn't understand jackshit, and maybe profit form it somehow.
I'm in my last assignment, they want us to pick some SNLI paper and implement, ok, so I find this one with the least amount of params because I thought hey this seems promising.
And boy what a ride it was, I implemented it using PyTorch, the results are way off, I read the paper again and rewrite some parts, still nothing, I get 79%, it's supposed to be 85%, and no matter how I try, nothing.
10 GitHub repos later, 40 hours of complete meltdown,
20 throwaway Google accounts using colab because we don't have GPUs in our uni and using AWS is not feasible.
Same shit, I'm at loss, the world is a lie, and I fell for it...
So here is something that I haven't yet figured out how to do
How can I automate VPN connection and call some APIs through this connection?
I have something here where I have to turn on something like tunnelbear, connect to an American node, do an API call, then turn off the VPN, I just can't figure out a way to automate these steps without doing UI automation, and I don't plan on doing UI Automation for this case, I like to have something that works as a background processor that runs every few mins, typical script automation, but this time with VPN automation
So what are your suggestions?
Show me what you got!4
So udemy are currently doing sales
Can you guys recommend me some courses to buy? Of whatever subject you like (development, business, etc...)1
