The mobile web version of GitHub is absolute garbage. It's so shitty I don't even get why they bother. It lacks basic features like issue searching and the interface is so dumbed down everything just feels cheap and I always feel like I'm missing out.
All the devs I've talked to say they always just select "show desktop version." I do that too. It works perfectly. It's so fucking annoying. I wish they would just make a real mobile version, that's not missing features, or just default to the desktop app on mobile - works fine and everyone uses it anyway.43 -
TL;DR: Clients are dumb.
Client IT Lead: "Your code isn't working on our website."
Me: "Because you didn't load our code into your website. Do that, and everything works."
CIL: <proposes terrible alternative>
M: "No fix on my end will matter if you don't load our code into your website."
CIL: <more disagreement>
M: "Let me discuss with my team and I'll get back to you."
... later that day, in a follow up meeting with client's team ...
M: "Load our code into your website as was initially intended and everything works fine."
CIL's Boss: "That makes complete sense, and I'm not sure why we weren't doing that from the beginning. Let's make that happen, CIL."
CIL: "Okay."

Dear Misinformed idiots,
Just because you watched Silicon Valley doesn't mean you actually understand how Software Development works.
-We don't sit in front of a screen in an AC room googling funny pictures
-We don't think of new Algorithms by pretending to be jerking.
-We don't "get lucky" with our code, it takes hours of studying and research to come up with a solution which actually works.
-And we definitely can't just "create the *next* Google", THAT is not how it works.
I swear to the God ya'll love and cherish, the next person to approach me to turn their shit idea into "The next big thing", I'll leave everything aside and drive a screwdriver through your neck.
- An Engineer tired of everyone's never ending shit storm.10 -
Client: Urgent! App is crashing!
Me inside: Wtf, Crashlytics didn’t send me anything, it betrayed me...
Me: What’s wrong?
Client: Some random user sent me email that app is crashing SOMEWHERE(!?)
Me: ................................... no problem, I’m working on it.
*Tomorrow*
Me: Fixed, everything works fine now (didn’t do anything actually)
Client: Great, nice work!
Client never mentioned that “problem “ anymore.

- Everything works 10 minutes before presentation
- Nothing works on presentation

Client: It works, it looks great! Thanks for everything!
Me: What? That isn't the new application, that's your old one. Your new one goes live tonight.3 -
Tested on local work perfectly,
Push to production
Restart service
CPU went up to 100%, process alive but all services down.
Panic.
Try to think of what would be the cause.
With no hope, i restarted the service again.
Everything works as expected.
I still dont know what happened. :/7 -
When you are creating new design for your website and everything works fine and then you see that you browser is zoomed on 150%😫😭6
-
Much-security.nl is down.
No, no hack or whatsoever. I just reinstalled the wrong server through my control panel.
The new blog version will hopefully be up tonight. 'you keep promising that' - I don't have a backup of the old version and I only just started using git so I can only upload the new version (or git pull). Next to that, except for the front-end, everything works now.
😐23 -
Guess who just pushed a whole week's work straight into production without a single damn test and everything works fine?😎😎😎19

Decided to try and remove everything google from my phone by using a root app uninstaller since my phone runs the stock rom.
Thought it would break my phone and was preparing for a recovery flash...
I now run a stock rom without anything Google 😍
Even signal works fine with a background websocket connection.
Google, unkindly go fuck yourself.23 -
Code works.
Rename a variable for clarity.
Third-party lib behaves differently, breaks things.
Change the var names back.
Still broken.
Stash changes and checkout previous commit.
Everything works.
Diff with stash.
No notable changes. (some comments, ...)
Checkout branch again, pop stash.
Broken again.
... What?19 -
I have a friend that is a girl that loves to snapchat everything she does, the problem is that she now works (in apprenticeship) at a huge company and she snapchats her desktop who has a lots of post-it notes and her screen which is showing excel spreadsheets with customers data and stuff...
And she does this on a regular basis btw
Who can be possibly that dumb...5 -
IE can go fuck itself.
Today, the reason the some JS broke is because it couldn't handle tabs. Works fine in any other browser.
Replace all tabs with spaces and bam, everything works again.

> IHATEFORALIVING! YOUR CHANGE IS NOT WORKING! EVERYTHING BREAKS!
> 3 hours long debugging session

Me: I've been using ubuntu with i3 for 6 months. Is awesome. Everything works great.
Brain: Have you seen debian or arch linux. They're better than ubuntu. Just try' em
Me: Brain shut up. I don't have time to reinstall everything + I'll 100% fuck my pc up. I'll do it another time.
Brain: Trust me. I know what's better for you. Try it now
Me: No.
Brain: Pleeeeease.
Me: Ok fine.
Me: Now windows doesn't work, debian doesn't work. I need to format my hard drive and do this shit all over again.
Brain: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Hey. Install arch linux.9 -

Linux... Is shitty... Ok it just is. I've tried all kinds of variations and they all just... Urgh
Now I know... I know devs are meant to love it ... But compare it to windows
(Yes windows fucks up more) but when it works it works.
... Windows isn't perfect... But it doesn't try to be.
Linux has that feel of... Clearly made by a dev... It works consistently but doesn't take into account how people want to use something...
Linux is something you have to learn to love. And I'm sure I could.
But with windows it's intuitive it's straight forward
I feel like if I was to pick up windows having never used it... I would know how it works. I could at least use it go online and watch videos do the basics... In Linux ... No it's not as easy, sometimes not possible
An os you should just know how to do everything you want to do, and not have to download tonnes of shit to get it that way
It is, the future... But holy fuck get your act together Linux65 -
I have those conversations with my coworkers about once a day. We use Linux at work and I am the only one with any real Linux experience.
C: I have a problem! I tried and googled everything already! Come help me...
M: *slowly walks over to their PC*
M: *copy-pastes the error into Google*
M: *clicks the first result*
M: *presses two buttons*
*everything works again*
M: So you tried Google already, have you?
When I leave there (it's a PhD position and I'm almost done) they will probably crash and burn...7 -

Sorry, but I gotta go with the inevitable. Apple.
Of course, their older slogan is ironic now. Used to be does more, costs less. Now you can't even upgrade the RAM in most devices and legally can't repair their shit without their permission. The only reason people love Apple is because of the ecosystem. Everything Apple works great with everything else Apple, plus it's very trendy to have that logo plastered everywhere. It's too convenient to leave.10 -
Is it just me that is addicted to the feeling when you solved a big problem with the code and everything just works afterwards? Its such a nice feeling!!3

Installing arch,
everything works perfectly,
installing grub,
won't install to partition,
use force option,
grub installs,
grub boots,
select arch,
failure...
Looking through the config file I discover a uuid I don't recognise, oh,
that's because literally no device or partition marches this uuid that appeared from the damn ether.
After changing it to point to an existent partition it works...
But seriously grub, why does your setup script just pull addresses out of it's ass? I lost 10 minutes because I thought you were trustworthy...6 -

Started my own business recently, it's still in the works but it's picking up nicely... Had a (l)user call me this morning asking if I could help him with his website design. I tell him he's and ask him what he's like his website to do... His exact words "I want everything like Facebook but the site not to be called Facebook and the colors green. Can you please make this happen?"
FUCK YOU!6 -
Greatest thing just happened.
Get a ticket about orders not being processed in our webshop. Angry customer. Critical!!!!
Starts troubleshooting. Nothing has changed in the code recently, was working just fine yesterday. Works locally and on test server. Hmmm...
Take a chance. Writes back to customer: “there! Try to place an order again” without changing anything.
5 minutes I get back “awesome! Everything works again and all previous orders have appeared. Good work!”.
Happy customer. Happy dev :)
Fin7 -
Processing is WHAT?!
So is it just me or is processing like the most fun thing to do with coding ? I mean, it's perfect for relax; it's fun like playing games but it still gives you something.
I've never been so keen to code like I am after weekend with processing. OMG!
And it's not just that you can do everything, understand how M$ Paint/Photoshop does things, understand how games work and how EVERYTHING around graphics works, it's also that there are SO MANY REAAAAALLY GOOD resources that you enjoy ""studying"". Things like pong, game of life, Gaussian blur (the one you use in Photoshop daily, yeah, do you understand how it works ?), Painting or edge detection OR ANY OTHER THING RELATING TO GRAPHICS.
It's simply amazing so if you don't know about it, give it at least 10 minutes(at that point, you'll be programming GTA 6/Photoshop 2 or something..), you won't regret it.
Anyaway, feel free to share your creations!10 -
I was building my iOS app in xcode, when I get an error. It was some swift library thing I did not recognize.
Then without changing anything:
Build again.
Error
Build again.
Error
Build again
No errors at all. Run my app and everything works perfectly.6 -
DevOps is like working in sanitation. If everything works as it should, no one cares about you. But if there is a problem, everyone is up to their eyeballs in shit, and it is your fault.
Same as IT btw.3 -

Friday Eve: Closing eclipse project happily at work. Everything works sorta fine.
Monday morning: Opening eclipse project again. Everything is like i left it. "Main class could not be found."
What the fuck eclipse?4 -
I was working on a site just moments ago and everything was fine. Then I move my laptop from my living room to my bedroom and on refreshing the page everything seems broken! Disorganized cards, and everything looks 10x bigger. I panic because I was supposed to deploy it on Thursday and I was just doing some final touches and angular has given me one hell of a time. I fucking rolled back all my commits to yesterday and cleared chromes chrome's cache....still nothing works. Then I realized there's a new button on my address tab and on clicking it is showed I had (accidentally) zoomed in by a fucking 175% when moving the laptop *facepalm*. On resetting it everything was ok. Now I have lost all of today's commits and my chrome cache. One box of tic-tacs down and I still can't overcome my rage... So I wrote this rant 😠😩😩
I need a stress ball😩😩7 -
Confession
I'm building a web app with little experience and I'm probably Googling stuff 50% of the time and I'm sure I'm doing everything the wrong way but it works so...10 -
When you set up your first ever personal Apache server built on a raspberry pi and everything works first time, and you feel like a god for this tiny achievement :D3

this week started like shit, but today it seems like everything fell into place. the interns are working, the bs code i had to change works, i did more than i expected, plus i just cut my hair and it is cute as heck1

> ticket comes, new feature is requested
> create the new feature from scratch. Code is neatly splitted in files and methods, each with clear responsibilities
> every method is documented, there are clear service layers for the business logic, which resulted in controller having 10 lines of code, give or take
> commit the whole code, everything works
> check the develop branch today, team leader littered business logic in the controllers because "the codebase is a mess anyway"15 -
Introduced git in work about 5 months ago, explained to my coworkers how it works, shared links to tutorials, git pro book and everything imaginable.
Almost every day I learn something new ... they keep struggling to checkout a branch or resolve some simple conflict...
I'm just tired of explaining things...
Now I just go and fix every thing and learn a lot :)8 -
Life as a developer:
Yesterday I could reproduce the bug everything I ran the program, but I could not debug it. Visual Studio would not break at my breakpoints.
Today Visual Studio works fine but the bug cannot be reproduced at all.
I should have become a florist instead...4 -
GitLab CE crashed after doing a reconfigure, something with the LetsEncrypt client. Hours of debugging later it suddenly works again and the letsencrypt client doesn't throw errors either.
Happy that it works again but I'd like to know WHY it suddenly works again after I pretty much changed nothing (or, I did, but I put everything back to the original values every time a suggestion doesn't work).
Grrrrrrr.2 -
FUCK
FUCKING BULLSHIT!
WHY THE FUCK DID I UPDATE MY RASPBERRY PI! FUCK, I CANT SSH INTO IT ANYMORE! ITS BOOTED AND THE FUCKING PI HOLE PROGRAMM WORKS BUT I CANT ACCESS IT TO SEE IF EVERYTHING IS FUCKING FINDE (which it totally isn't) FFFFFFFF11 -
Pushed code remotely and told a teammate to run it on the target hardware. He then told me he might of blown up $6000 worth of equipment. Then he says "Never mind everything works."
World record for biggest heart attack?1 -
What do you do when another dev overwrites/changes your working code without telling you, only because s/he cannot understand how your code works?
And your code was working fine, mind you, no bugs or anything, and is following recommended guidelines/standards. It's just that this other dev has a different coding style and prefers to rewrite everything his/her way even if it means breaking up otherwise sound logic.7 -
HOLY.
CHRIST.
MAVEN.
Where has this thing been all my life. I can manage my Java web projects from a single repository that works native with Linux. No more hunting for .jar files on the web, EVERYTHING IS MANAGED FROM A SINGLE .XML FILE. MAVEN WORKS WITH ANY JAVA IDE.
This is one of the single greatest systems I have ever found.10 -
Hosting a PHP/MySQL application for a really wealthy NGO that must have paid thousands of dollars for the app, and everything works fine but no sanitised inputs and direct SQL statement execution. Just waiting for little Bobby Tables so I can charge them a fortune for recovery 😊5

That moment when you've tried everything and nothing works and the only logical thing left to do is post a question on stackoverflow;

Today after working 7 days on a project. My coworker comes up to me and says he pushed everything on the server and that he cleared git to make everything cleaner. When he did I that he forgot to change some vital things. Now we have a black website running and no backup code. I was so passed at him. Luckily a stressbal works really well. I threw it at is head and felt immediately better. Sad part need to do it all over again.3

I want to know what brings you Joy while programming/coding?
I've been trying to catch that certain feeling...
For me it's having everything make sense and a logical flow through the code and it works every if it is adding two vars.
And please definitely not the money if you're coding for money then you're not enjoying it.12 -
There’s no better feeling then doing a full server rebuild, modifying several projects heavily to be portable and keep working under new infrastructure and loosing access to dependent systems.
Migrating everything across, firing up Apache.... and BAM the fucker just works and ssl labs gives it an A (it was a giant F with multiple vulnerabilities yesterday on the old server)7 -
Enjoying my new dev environment already.
This is a real install alongside my existing windows install. Surprisingly enough, windows has in no way complained about Arch!12 -
Leaving work with no bugs in the code! Everything works flawlessly!
Coming back the next day and all of a sudden nothing works and we need to spend the whole day getting it to work as well as it did yesterday.
There seems to be programming gnomes, ruining our code at nights!3 -
The feeling when everything works so smooth, but one little bug appears and you're like:
*covers the error log*
I don't see you, you little misery of mine... ^^ -
I finally found it!
I set up an self-hosted gitlab at our company and for some reason everything worked except for one thing: using git (clone, push, etc) via SSH.
The solution was on the 'common installation problems' page at gitlab, but it took me a long time finding it through Google.
I read through the auth.log and realized the 'git' user was locked. Swapped the '!' for a '*' in the /etc/shadow and now it works. -
I have a really huge admiration for people who works for the free software, those who made very good tools for almost everything. The Debian community, the FSF.
I'm also admirative in front of those who used computering as a science and made big discoveries in AI, compressing methods, pentesting...
I'm wondering how it is to work in these two worlds?2 -
[Working on a Project]
- Added a few lines for log display to end user
- Breaks everything
- Spent an hour trying to resolve issue, fails
- Commented those lines
- Everything starts working again
- Uncommented those lines
- Everything still works

WINDOWS!!! Why, just why would you think that choosing frigging "Enter" as the copy key in cmd was a good idea?!?
At least for pasting, Ctrl+Shift+V works, it just jumps through some menus first, for whatever reason. But Ctrl+Shift+C doesn't work.
In general, after using a Linux console a lot recently, everything about the Windows console seems stupid to me.11 -
Finally had the time to implement that feature I wanted all the time. Testing now and everything works just fine again. Very suspicious.
-
Nothing interesting. Just 11 GB ram using and increases steadily. After restart app the bug was again. Okaaay, I thought. I reboot my PC, but bug was adamant. Well, then I update phpStorm and everything became fine. Ok, JetBrains, good idea to say user about new release version and make update:) Seriously, it works fine. I think every company should adopt this idea:)8

osu-web devs: we use PHP because it just works *stabs in vagrant*

The moment that everything works on localhost but you upload it to a FTP it is broken😫😥 I am so upsaid6

Developing a web app that I'm sure was touched by Satan himself. Bugs come out from no where.
Yesterday when I left everything worked. Today when I arrived nothing works! Lots of angular errors. WTF. No one else worked on it . :O4 -
what a great idea to do server upgrades on a friday evening...and i can do it alone...and am responsible that everything works as expected...what a great day today...and i hate every single second of this day yet.. :-/
damnit i'm a developer, not a sysadmin, just because i can do it doesnt mean that i'm supposed to do it..what about our admins? what get they paid for? rebooting the coffeemachine? fuckers already left the building1 -
If git was written in english or in ancient greek it made no difference. It's everything counter-intuitive and you have just to learn commands by heart and google the errors. Because nothing makes sense, even if you know how it works and you used it for years6

When you simply copy&pasted and everything works just fine.
P.S. It's 1:00 AM so I decided to share my little happiness. ^_^ -
So today's the day.
We've now successfully installed four Ubiquity AP's with a Ubiquity Security Gateway onto a 1000/1000 fiber line. Feels really nice when you're finished with the cable laying and everything just works™. Just getting the fiber in there was a project of its own, but now it's all complete. Tommorow I'll be working from home, and on Monday I guess I'll be bombarded with connectivity issues. Oh well, let's enjoy the weekend first 😁2 -

The AH-MAZ-ING feeling you get when you write 200 lines of code without compiling and everything just works as planned!!!
YAY! -
OH MY GOD! I really just want to comment to that guys answer on stackoverflow, that he's right and his answer works... but I have only 4 reputation - because I'm a good dev searching intensively, finding an answer to almost everything a can think of!
If I ever get over 15 reputation (it's so sad, I know) stackoverflow will explode because of all my upvotes that are not counted until then... At least something satisfying here :/2 -
Add more RAM. Computer won't turn on, reseting CMOS from motherboard jumper, everything works fine.
Feelings satisfied and everyone is in shock from the "jumper" method.1 -
Fuck. The entire day to do this shit.
The screen was my first experiment, but because of a bad module (i2c) it didn't worked.
Today I finnaly got it to work.
Starting making everything almost like in the picture, everything mounted (and lots of black hot glue, no wires showing...
Didn't work.
One hour breaking everything apart without damaging the screen... Was a loose wire.
Started again... Didn't work...
The pot is also damaged, sometimes it works, others need to turn it hard.
New pot.
New set of wires.
Soldering everything right, testing all wires so no mistakes this time... But it takes so longgggg... Making everything in modules this time (to reuse without having to sordering again. And finally... It works.
By this time I should have 3 or 4 learning projects finish (I really wanted the screen to adapt all output in text, no serial, no blinking less, everything in modules, code prepared so, when I get my 40+ packages from China I already have a prototype tester ready.
10 hours... Fuck I'm really addicted, or else I would just solder everything together :D28 -
-Writes a function that I'm going to schedule for django.

You know what's fucking horrible?
Implementing new features to an Android app in production that another dev wrote...
...which has no architecture, no documentation, no modularity, no testability, everything runs on the UI thread, filled with spaghetti code and it somehow works smoothely so I have to not fuck it up.
Oh and I'm also a junior. So fuck me, right?1 -
How to LAN -Party:

Two states of a developer every day:

Used to not work for Google /Android, but since the entire Android community uses about everything he makes, and then everything he touches turns into gold and becomes part of the Android SDK sooner or later, because his work is so useful and good. He now works for Google / Android. He's one of the Android gods, a true rockstar dev!2 -
Bought a new 1TB ssd from Intel for my laptop. The installation of the drive itself went perfectly, it works like a charm. But then I had to do a clean install of windows and ubuntu, and that's where things went wrong. The drive still works perfectly, but everything else has fallen apart. I've been fighting with them the whole working day and haven't got anything work related done. Well, a few more hours and I can head home and continue the installation with a few cold beers, that should help getting it done ;)1

I bet that all web devs can confirm this.
-You spend hours writing the code, and then open it on google chrome but nothing works :-( so you try to fix it spending another hour and at the end of the day you think: "let me try with firefox" and magically everything works percectly. And after all this there is only one thing to do and is 'sudo apt purge google-chrome' LOL5 -
well, fuck... how about everything that works in visual studio but feels like garbage in VS Code???
don't get my wrong I use VS Code for every other language... but C# has just always felt better in visual studio than in VS Code. oh well9 -
Today the struggle was real.
But damn if it isn't days like this where you learn real shit.
Fighting with a debian VM for half the day to make a local development environment. I'm tired, but everything works, the project looks good, and I'm just sorta angry/tired/proud now.
I learned so much, and now want pie. I am going to go eat some pie.3 -
So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -

29 hours straight. From a thursday morning at 8 to friday around lunch at 13. No sleep at all.
A coworker became a dad a week before, so now I had to complete his data migration project. Had not been involved in the project at any point until his son was born.
But I made it and got a bonus in the end👍🏻 -
Still can't stream videos absolutely smooth on Fedora. Tried Chromium, Firefox and every fckin' plug-in they keep asking for. Half the stuff either just keeps loading or buffering. And the moment I give up and switch to Windows, everything just works. Why are we not building better stuff on linux? *Sigh*8

So I'm basically my family's IT guy, as you'd expect, but this is just pulling my hairs.
My mom's laptop has a weird error message saying something about a corrupt windows update database.
Not wanting to mess the system up, I decided to factory reset the computer and see if that helped.
During the factory reset, windows tells me that it can't delete all files, and that another factory reset might be in order.
Alright, I don't think any more of it and proceed to setup the account on the computer, everything works fine.
Next day I decide to run windows update on it just to see if everything works as it should, the computer restarts and immediately BSoDs on me. Upon reboot the same error from before the system reset pops up again, and I'm back to square one.
Fuck windows and all its constant issues9 -
School group project: Pipeline is done, everything deploys automatically, microservices work in development, https everywhere, Docker is bae, everything works perfectly
Now I have to work on frontend stuff ;_;8 -
Save everything.
My angular app gives errors.
Go to vscode do a ctrl+s on any file
And it works!
Anyone?3 -
So a few days ago windows decides to update. No alerts, nothing. Just a random update. 4 HOURS LATER it's still going "hi, we have a new update for you". By hour 5 it's finally done. My wonderful new desktop is a black screen with broken keyboard drivers (mouse still works somehow) and the other user accounts are also broken (but explorer somehow still loads). Then these motherfuckers have the nerve to send a dialog saying "congratulations on updating Windows to the latest version" ...... ;-;
reinstalled windows and everything works again. just need to download ~500Gb of programs on a >1mb/s connection.
fml
ps. this is my first rant, sorry if it's a bit incoherent.1 -
Probably my favorite item is the canister I use as a pen/squishy ball holder. My Dad gave it to me; it's part of a self rescue respirator from the salt mine he works at.
I got to go down in the mine several years ago, pretty awesome. It's around 700ft deep underground and is fully self supporting; down there everything is salt, the walls, floor and ceiling.4 -
I know this is the second rant on a row about this, but I really need to hear someone saying that IBM enterprise software sucks. Nothing works, everything heavy and slow as fuck, documentation doesn't exist, official developer's forum gives me an error on login, many IBM official pages give me a 500 internal error. And, in the end, this costed as hundreds of thousands of euro. Seriously?7
-
I think the best moment of writing a code is removing curses from comments and renaming variables from like "FUCKING_ITERATOR" to something more normal after everything finally works.
-
Valgrind is awesome. Today I fixed a lot of memory leakage / overflow bugs thanks to it. An guess what? Now, everything works!
-
Random Tip (since ppl don't seem to know)
Dark Reader chrome extension
turns everything to dark theme
works on devrant too, although their native dt is better
not sure about firefox2 -
So I'm writing this code, that does 2 important things, that cannot be seperated. I run the code, thing1 is correctly executed, thing2 not. No fucking idea, why this happens. Execute again, same result. Debugg the wohle thing, now everything works fine.
WHAT?
I check the code, there are no background tasks, no paralell processing, nothing that should go wrong.
Asking a Senior developer for help, he also has no fucking idea. He tells me to try to wait one second between the two things. Looking for a delay() or wait() function in my programming language but there is none. Ok, building my own delay, writing a "do 1000 times" loop, calculate some shit in it. Execute the code, it works perfectly.
Nobody has a fucking idea, why this is happening and why this solution is working, but now the code is productive and it works fine.9 -
> develops a long form with reactive input boxes that shows wether the data inserted follows the correct format
> client goes "ok now make it a WhatsApp chat"
> "A WhatsApp chat?"
> "Yeah like you ask the questions of the form with the chat and the customer needs to answer through WhatsApp messages, just copy and paste everything you've already done in the browser"
I swear to god, some people have no fucking clue how development works2 -
TL; DR;
I'm one with code and the code is one with me.
Everything in my life has been inconsistent and as soon as I start building expectations from someone or something, it disappoints. Be it my friends (😂😂) or my ex girlfriend or my studies or my college or my professors or work, or food (sometimes).
Coding, or programming, has been the only consistent and non disappointing thing since 2010 for me. It just works. If I write a wrong program, I know its why and where its wrong and then fixing it works. Sometimes it works in one go. And sometimes is works beyond my expectations. Its like coding chose me rather than me chosing coding. -
Gotta love it when everything works flawlessly with the test API endpoint and credentials, but when I try to go live, there's suddenly a ton of additional configuration to get the third-party APIs working.
Why the fuck do you even provide a testing environment, if it's completely different from the live one?1 -
Theory is when you know everything, but nothing works.
Practice is when everything works but no one knows why.
In my project group, theory and practice are combined: nothing works and no one knows why.1 -
What’s stopping you from switching to Linux?
I’ve recently switched to Manjaro, with a copy of windows on another drive for games that I can’t play with Proton, but in large part everything I do works so well on Linux, and I get to avoid the forced updates and other Microsoft non sense that comes with it.28 -
three days trying to code magento payment method, our seniors didn't help me (because they lazy), went to other company senior, 10min and everything works...life sucks
-
I've finally got a monitor at work that works with Samsung Dex.
Positive things:
- new super cool monitor
- can remove windows now from the dual boot of the laptop since everything I needed it for can be now done on Dex.
Negative things:
- DevRant doesn't work with Dex. It just doesn't load properly. But maybe it will work through a browser. Need to test...3 -
FUCK.
NEXTJS.
...
THIS PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT WORKED 4 DAYS AGO.
I CHANGED ***NOTHING***.
4 DAYS LATER I START THE PROJECT AGAIN AND HALF THE STUFF BREAK. NOTHING FUCKING WORKS!!!!!!!
SOMETIMES IT WORKS SOMETIMES IT BREAKS
MESSAGES GET SENT SUCCESSFULLY 2-3 TIMES IN A ROW AND THEN Random 401 error
Random page glitch flickering when routing to new pages rendering the content blank
Random list map iteration crashes on ui dev side
This is such a fucking SHIT
Now i started my angular and spring boot exact same project that i stopped worjing on since october 2023 AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE WITHOUT ANY RANDOM ERRORS
RANDOM ERRORS ONLY HAPPEN FOR NEXTJS FUCKSHIT FUCKING FRAMEWORK
FUCKIEST DOGSHIT GORILLACUM MAD FUCKIJNNGG RETARD FRAMEWORK FOR AUTISTICS I WASTED SO MUCH TIME LEARNING THIS PIECE OF FUCKING GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!28 -
Has anyone ever just completely forgotten literally everything about how a language works?
I use to be fairly good at Vala as and now I can't even remember how to load fucking CSS or use inline CSS .-.4 -
Why does it seem like every application these days needs to restart after performing any kind of update or installation? It's even more annoying when you just don't restart then launch the application and everything works fine...
-
Spent half the day trying to make something work. It wasn’t working before I started and I wasn’t making any progress. I don’t know why my changes weren’t working. So I yanked out everything I changed and put it back the way it was before I started. It works now. I don’t know why it works. I give up. 😂
-
Don't you love it when you're in a full-on creative mood but the whole universe is somehow working against you doing anything productive?
Woke up in the morning with bright ideas for my app. But my PC restarted and my IDE crashed. After getting the IDE up, the project no longer builds. After spending hours to try and fix it, reinstall IDE and ............... voila............... everything works. I mean WTF?1 -
For 2 hours I've been looking for the reason why my mouse and external hard drives suddenly stop working, just to find out that my external USB hub is junk and caused a short circuit that disabled all the USB ports on my laptop.
USB Hub (Logitech, $30) replaced with a cheap one from China ($1). Now everything works again. -
What the hecking heck. My Javascript doesn't work in Edge EXCEPT for when I open - only open - the developer console, then everything works fine. And it is hard to debug stuff without developer tools, especially since Edge doesn't note console.info when the developer console is closed.
(No, I'm not even using external scripts)12 -
When devRant take a minute to load any page on your main optic fiber connection, and speed test says that everything is fine....😤
UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!
bah at least the 4G works properly 😧1 -
I hate iOS. Everything works perfectly on windows / OS X on any browser, but then you have retarded iOS not understanding anything of the (simple) ES5 JavaScript I throw at it, and good luck debugging that when your Mac isn't with you.
Getting tired of Apple's shit3 -
Replaced camera in my phone, it arrived when I was heading to the pub so after 3 beers I came back and everything works now.
Looks like it’s better to fix things when not sober.5 -
TFW you add a substantial portion of code, without testing every little step, then you run it and everything works.
Wish I could experience it one day.2 -
from 1-10 how bad is it if i publish an app to play store knowing it has bugs and is not very optimized but everything works fine?17
-
Finally upgraded my webserver and php modules to support HTTP/2 ^^ Everything works fine.
Found out devrant.com doesn't support it though. @dfox8 -
Get an issue reported today stating that a report can't be submitted in a product we maintain. Taking their word for it I start investigating on our local copy of the product. Everything works as intended. Ok... strange. Take a look at the production copy aaaaand it was submitted. No issues at all.
Note to self. Don't believe the client. -
Ever had one of those days (or many of them) where all your jokes offend, all your interactions fall flat, none of your code works, and everything you try to do just goes to crap? Hoping it’s not just me.
-
sudo pacman -Syu --force
sudo reboot
Openfire and owncloud no longer work.
sudo systemstl status openfire
Java exception relating to SQL.
sudo systemstl status mariadb
No such service mariadb
WTF why would that get uninstalled, how the hell.
sudo pacman -S mariadb
Everything now works again
Arch can be a confusing place
😺
Maybe that force was a bad idea.5 -
Got up to present my capstone project. Here's what it is about, heres how it works, here's a work around for an issue I couldn't figure out, etc... Everything went smooth until I was asked what the name of my project was. Fifteen weeks of development and I never came up with a name.
-
When I forgot how everything works in c#.
Example:
var animalKey = 1;
Then I realize I needed it to be string.. and I couldn't figure out how to convert an int to a string... But all I needed was
var animalKey = "1";
I kicked myself pretty hard2 -
God I hate React so bad
I get the hype but omg it is so confusing
Literally everytime I try adding something nothing works and I have to troubleshoot, EVERYTHING is a problem
And don't even get me started on REACT + TYPESCRIPT
IMO VueJS is just a smoother nicer experience overall7 -
Can't create a new SQL database on Azure on on one subscription as every region is unavailable. Everything works on my other subscription.
Fucking hell.1 -
Working with Electron is a nightmare...
"Hey you have a working app? Nice, here is the new Electron version which breaks everything! Now find out how stuff works now, because we won't tell you! Good luck"7 -
So I have a job at a client to fix their system because the last systemadmin fucked everything up. One of the things I need to do is let the boss work from home.
No problem. I set up a vpn connection to work and everything just works. Except that the home network had the same dhcp range so that had to change.
I login on the router and literally everything is fucking locked. I call them and they send me a new router same fucking problem. So we bought an asus router so I finally can fix it.
QUESS WHAT THE FUCKING GARBAGE DOESNT EVEN HAVE BRIDGE MODE. FUCK KPN AND THEIR MODEMS.1 -
Was writing a multithreaded program in Java with an infinite while loop (for waiting). The thread was never preempted. Added a print statement inside the while loop and everything started working :/
Now I need to print a stupid message just so the program works :P3 -
When you've worked on a project for a whole week, and finaly verify it against the hardware and everything works!
-
Does anyone know if anything special is required to vertically center a div in Firefox?
It works perfectly fine in chrome and IE and Edge and freaking everything else!!12 -
My app is finally on the Apple App Store.
The rant: how bloody difficult was it to get on there?! They scrutinise EVERYTHING. My promo copy, my screengrabs and also it seems that there is code that works on iPhone that doesn’t work on iPad.
I thought it was designed to be the same for ease of development? However I found a function that works perfectly well on iPhone but breaks iPad.
Anyway I guess in the long run this keeps the App Store’s quality level high and it isn’t the Wild West like the google play store. However it’s still pretty annoying. I can see why devs get angry about Apple’s process.2 -
Ok, so I got everything running on Ubuntu 17.10. switched to i3 because holy mother of God is never have to resize a window again!
Switched to using the Von editor mode in IntelliJ because dear lord is it faster!
I love all of it. The only problem? Instead of the 6-10 hours of battery I got in Windows, I get MAX 2 hours in Ubuntu because it's always using the Nvidia card and switching to the integrated Intel causes an instant log out after the log in. (Tried everything already, nothing works)
Still, I love it.3 -
delete random, unused column from production database
entire app blows up
re-release last change on code pipeline
everything works beautifully
¯\_(ツ)_/¯2 -
What the fuck? Been trying to see rants all day long at work and at home and DevRant was super weird as if I wasnt connected, which I was...
Tested jsrant.com and the api was working...
Connected to a VPN on digital ocean and everything works flawlessly, dinconected from VPN and DevRant is off again...
Now on VPN... Wtf...5 -
That moment when you try several days to get the code to behave like you want and at a random moment everything suddenly works....
Better not to touch it (the code) anymore before it breaks again... -
Friday afternoon 5:00pm: everything works wonderfully fine, let's go home!!
Monday morning 9:30am: Let's do some more test on the latest code I have wr.... KABOOOOM!!! -
I used to work in IT support during my training, this is the most accurate description of the job:
If everything just works people will be like "what do we pay you guys for?" And if something doesn't work: "what do we pay you guys for?" ...*sigh*1 -
Am I the only one who heavily comments their code when learning a new language to the point of you essentially describing what everything is and how everything works6
-
Sigh.. I have both vs2013 and vs2017 open on the same project.
In 2017 an extension doesn't work.
But 2017 is easier in some things, like managing nugets.
All my coworkers use 2013, so I have to make everything works in there. And I have to use the one broken extension there.2 -
I'm not a server-man, I mostly just develop apps in unity and similar stuff.
Boss: yo, can you make this work? I just can't understand https://github.com/ant-media/...
Me: Well IDK, there's a "start.sh" in it, just give it a try
*error*: /usr/local/antmedia cannot be found
Me: well then just put the whole thing in it.
*everything works flawlessly*
did you do magic? -
I'm so fed up with our current "Bugtracking"system.
In the past we've been using mantis bt.
A heavily modified version though. Exactly specified to the developers needs with an integration to our own desktop software, which has time tracking and reports.
Also we had a separate mantis for everyone else.
Support guys and so on.
Everything was working fine.
But then "someone" decided that we shouldn't have two different mantis versions running and should integrate the support into the developer version.
Well ok. Makes sense.
So we changed mantis a bit so we can better differentiate the projects and tasks.
But "someone" is just too fucking dumb to understand how mantis works.
So after some time "someone" decided we won't be using mantis anymore, but a steaming pile of shit we have no control of how it works.
(It's called Wrike if you want to take a look at that)
It's completely useless if you want to use it as a bugtracker.
Maybe it works for the support guys I thought and asked them.
Seems they barely use it. They rather write everything down on paper and manually write their times into our desktop software now. Fucking awesome!
And even better. "Someone" isn't using this confusing and totally useless shit either.
I'm fed up.
I'm gonna set up a new version of mantis write everything the wrike api gives me into it.
Also need to modify it, so it works with our desktop software again.
And an integration with our Gitlab would be nice too I guess.
(Can't use the old mantis version we had, because it didn't have projects inside projects, which because of Wrike now is needed to sync)
Uh...
Lots of work...
So much time wasted...
And so much time still has to be wasted... -
Opening rant.
It feels like east asia is so hard on using IE.
Fuck.
Was doing angularJs (i know, we are planning for an upgrade by next year).
Implementing things in multiple select with ngOptions and some filter for dynamic option depending on previous selected option.
Everything works fine.
Came testing.
Hmmm
Have we tested this on IE?
Fucking browser broke, takes so long to update the succeeding selects. FML.
Looked up to answers in SO. Found the fix was in later version.
Current version is old as fuck. 1.4.x
Now have to contemplate in upgrading and hope every other things doesn't break.
Wish me luck devranters! If everything works out, i'll be back in incognito mode here. If not, there'll be more to compe.2 -
Not much tops the orgasm from powering thru 500+ lines of code in the zone... in vim...no debugger.. and without compiling just visually seeing in your mind the assembly be generated... and code being stepped thru.. and then compile and test and everything works as expected.. not sure anything tops that feeling ... definitely have to be in the zone.. one distraction and boom gotta compile to make sure nothing brokerant vim embedded c boom in the zone vim is life master power through c do it live god mode embedded systems3
-
Been meaning to rant about this for awhile. Currently in college and in this class we have to write BASH scripts which isn't ever that hard. Except for the fact that everything is checked against a pre-written script. FUCK I just wrote a complex script that does work but because it's not EXACT its coming back failed even tho it prints everything correct and works.
So now instead of fixing the script I'm back on DevRant wasting more time.1 -
How is it called when I rant about something my colleagues experienced and I just supported his debug session? Third party rant? Anyway, here's the thing.
Other team built some project specific code right in the heart of their software, which in itself would be worth a rant. But as you might guess, it's getting rantier.
For a new project the same code is used, but needed some tweaks. Now guess what happened:
1) Someone took the code, refactored it, made project specific stuff configurable, everything works fine now
2) Someone changed the code completely for the new project, everything seems to work fine for 5 months, then the old project needed a new release 💣 -
I spent two hours trying to find out why the wifi dongle on a new device we're building doesn't start (it's detected by linux and all so technically everything works) tried the scripts we use on a raspberry pi they work perfectly. I just noticed someone (most likely the cleaning lady) unplugged power or the usb hub I'm using.
Nice4 -
So my friend had an idea for a game and asked me if I could help him develop it. Now, he understands how the code works and can even write quite a bit himself. On several occasions (including today) this happened:
*writes code*
*tests code*
Me: Hmm... this isn't working like it's supposed to
Friend: It looks pretty good, maybe check to see if everything is in the right order
*checks code*
*tries alternative solution*
*checks again*
Me and friend: Well this is even worse than before
*presses ctrl+z a lot to go back to the original*
*opens new project*
*writes new code for same purpose*
*checks code*
Both of us: IT WORKS!!!
*checks again just to be sure*
Both of us: IT STILL WORKS!!!
*compares new code to original code*
Me: It's the exact same code with different variable names!!! Why did this not work before?
Friend: No idea
*puts new code into main program*
*it still doesn't work*
Reasons Java makes me cry sometimes4 -
When you code sth. From ground up and it works everything without any errors as you wanted, even though you’re using 2 APIs in about 20 lines. This feels so good :)
-
I think the « super power » of making everything works the first time, etc.. is really bad, where is the fun ? Where is this moment of happiness when it finally works ? :/
If i had this, I'll never want to be a dev again. -
windows has decided that today I'm not using my mouse, which is odd because it usually works in one of the three USB ports... Everything about that sentence makes me sad...
-
That feeling you have when you successfully removed jQuery from a legacy project and everything for some reason still works!
-
Devrant works surprisingly well here in China, except for saving pictures everything else works(mostly) but it's still nice to be able to use it here
Anyone else have similar experience in their country?11 -
terraform plan: Everything is great! The sun is shining, the birds are singing. Go ahead.
terraform apply: Everything is meaningless. I’m staying in bed and eating Doritos. Nothing works. Nothing makes sense. -
iOS notifications stopped working... Certs are good, nothing wss changed regarding notifications, everything works fine on the android side... What do you want from me apple???!!1

Everything that works on your machine, will most likely fail at scale.
Ensure that you have the right toolset. Learn more than just scripting.
Learn databases1 -
Today, another colleague of mine said a client wanted three logos at the top of their website. As if it wasn't clear enough what site your on...sheesh. I swear clients have the best ideas and know how everything works...2

Ok. The honeymoon with Windows 10 is clearly over and so the gloves are off.
About to lose my mind with both Windows and Visual Studio updates. If A+B, everything goes smoothly but on the other hand if A+B, everything goes to hell.
And when trying to add components to Visual Studio, it fails 9 times out of ten due to some goddamn /NoWeb switch. What/where the hell is this switch and why everything works without issues that one time out of ten!?
About to burn everything with fire! -
When date format is hard coded and application goes international. Application works ok until day turns 13. Error is seen a couple of days later, then it's the 1st again and everything is ok. Just to mention one of many strange errors. Just to make it harder, app works well if running in other countries that is using the same format. Daahh1
-
that moment when youre staying at one point for like 2 hours and the mobile Internet works 100%,but the next second everything is dead.. wtf how could that happen????
-
How often does this happen to you?
Just updated our continuous integration and for some reason the BuildAgents, who update independently, just kept failing to update.
Tried every trick in the book, debugged everything.
Kept complaining about being unable to delete files, frigging Windows file system being an idiot as always...
Was about to give up and migrate everything to a fresh system until I realized...
*reboot*
Ah, it works now!
... Why does it always take me so long to realize that's an option!?3 -
If I just try another way to do the same thing my broken code tries to do, either the new version makes my mistake obvious or everything just works.
Is this debugging? It's just rewriting. It seems faster than debugging. -
AI is this huge scam to me. People keep saying it will take over everything and replace everything: jobs, people, etc. It is so over hyped by people who don't understand how it actually works.
I will wonder if AI can take over everything when they can build an AI that can weed a garden.
- no chemicals, too much is used and poisons everything.
- the garden cannot be specifically designed to be weed by machine.
- the AI must differentiate between weeds and non-weeds.
- the robotic system employed must not destroy everything else while weeding.
- the AI should know when it finds random objects like gloves, or shorts, cigarettes, or electrical components that they need attention or actually pick them up. Yes, I have found these.
- it should be quick and energy efficient and not require an entire nuclear plant to run the AI. What is the point of AI powered by a server somewhere if it pollutes from afar rather than local.
I just don't see this happening in my lifetime.18 -
qt compilation 2: electric boogaloo.

The C/C++ infrastructure. just everything about it. and i'm not even using dependencies here.2 -
Have you ever been there when you write some code with everything you know and it still throws an error in the end when everything is said and done, you go ahead and do a last stupid thing that you know is not going to work but, WOAH... It worked. Then you didn't even bothered to know why, instead you were like, fuck it, if it works, IT WORKS!!!4
-
Using a 3rd part library to manage drag/drop in wpf and then have to use router events because it doesn't natively manage commanding for mvvm pattern, then you write a commanding behaviour which works perfectly for everything else except drag drop because it's not part of the visual tree so binging is a nightmare!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡1
-
Pretty boring story really. I was very young and don't remember any details, but one day my father let me use his pc. The only thing I really remember is playing some games and using Paint. (Feels a bit uneccessary to add, but I naturally clicked on everything and tried to understand how everything works.)1

Sometimes, all you just need is to...
Disconnect yourself from everyone and everything for some time, and find a place where you find peace of mind and comfort.
Direct communication with your inner soul which is also known as healthy self-talk gives all the answers and helps you find the way to move ahead.
Self-motivation works wonders, remember that!1 -
was developing a custom website for a friend, coz i primised him id do so.
but when i actually developed it i felt lazy midway so i made one table store json strings and used it for every type of data he has on his website.
everything works fine and fast, its nothing he would notice but...
am I going to hell?9 -
That moment after you have modified a lot of files so that the linter doesn't throw any errors... Only to realize you were missing the FUCKING BABEL CONFIGURATION FILE AND AFTER YOU ADD IT EVERYTHING WORKS JUST FUCKING FINE WITHOUT MODIFYING ALL THOSE EXTRA FILES!
FUUUUCK -
Oh god..
Starts using Laravel Framework
Code some lines
Everything works fine now
*Let see what happens if I delete this*
Error
Naturally
*Redo delete*
Run *OK, now it should work like before*
Error
Why??3 -
God damn stupid piece of shit Glide library doesn't work for shit. Who wrote this garbage? I did everything correctly but the fucking image still doesn't get displayed. Does it have a problem with png images?! Can't it fucking download a small image from the internet? How could someone write something so incredibly stupid???
*forgot to add internet permission to AndroidManifest.xml*
Oh, now it works. Hey, this library is actually pretty cool.1 -
I just had my first "technical" interview with a CDO of a digital marketing startup currently employing ~50 people. The quotes come from the fact that he basically didn't ask me a single question - he basically spent 30 minutes talking about their tools, how everything works etc. I asked a metric shitton of questions, but I don't know how this whole situation could give any assessment of my position as a junior frontend web dev. I'm confused as balls.7

The moment everything works fine and you just type `npm update` out of boredom and suddenly everything breaks and you spend the rest of the day fixing it...1
-
I encounter a bug that appears randomly and doesn't break the whole application but after reload it magically goes away and everything works fine during development. The worst thing is that I don't know how to replicate that bug and have no idea what is causing that bug.1

Just spent almost an hour trying to figure out why my computer won't display on my tv monitor (because the best smart TV is a PC). I tried everything, unplugging the graphics card and using the motherboard, tried another tv, tried different sockets. Tried another graphics card etc.
Eventually, without notice, after plugging it to a regular PC monitor, it started working. No clue why. But it works now so I'm happy. -
lesson learned...
never run yaourt -Syu --aur without checking the upgrade list.
reboot-> system doesn't boot -> F**k
reboot (runlevel 3)
discover that nvidia-beta and nvidia-utils mismatch version.
fix it editing pkgbuild of nvidia-beta to install lastest version.
reboot->everything works.
Results: succesfully wasted 25minutes.3 -
Thank you Cloudflare for replacing my MX records with A's, so that I now don't have a working mailserver, but also subdomains linked to my 404 page! Cloudflare you are great, where can I terminate the contract? When I import the confirguration in my friend's nameservers, it works. When I import it in my domain registrars nameservers, it works. When I import it in the cloudflare's nameservers, everything fucks up and it makes freaking subdomains. And that bullshit even displays MX records on their DNS dashboard! FUUUUCK

I really wish Emacs had better integration with Windows. Vim is a wonderful text editor, but it just doesn't do everything I used Emacs for. If it were my choice, I'd only use Linux for everything, but unfortunately I have to use other people's computers since my personal system's hard disk is borked, and it's really unfortunate how poorly it works even with Cygwin. Oh well, can't have it all I guess.2

When you made a project deployed it and everything works fine, you feel something is left ,you make some changes and push it on ............ now the application error reflects on your screen and you think to revert the commit but before reverting the judge comes to your table.
Experienced this at my first hackathon. -
Was this week bad for you guys?
Personally I had to deal with a university department. They changed their code and how their enterprise directory works breaking almost everything. -
Everything works hurray
- why not change this column in the database ?
Ok
- everything breaks -
Let's write additional 50 lines of code,,,
Still broken
but it worked once that's an accomplishment right? 🤣4 -
Test the project pre-release -> everything works well
Release the project -> new bugs comes out, features are not working anymore, some files are corrupted, your PC is ready to explode and a black hole is going to destroy everything1 -
Thought I'd take a look into how Cloud computing works and what it's all about.
I regret everything.1 -
Yet another WordPress rent... But..
I normally don't develop for WordPress so I didn't knew that every Wordpress Site has by default a RESTapi enabled.
Which makes it super easy to scrape content, remove Ads and so on..
Just add /wp-json/wp/v2/pages/ to any url that's running wordpress..
Works also with media uploads, comments... Everything...

Short term meeting scheduled via wire desktop app. Isn't it great when everything works when you need it?2
-
yesterday, I just swapped my sim card for some time with another. Placed it back....and voila! I can't enable data connection. I lost all my apn settings. To add to this, neither is it auto fetching the apns, nor i can manually change it! It shows some fucking error "apn settings not available for this user". I have another phone with same android version (lollipop) and everything works smoothly on it. These guys just broke everything after giving an upgrade from kitkat. Auto brightness stops working after a few hours, random reboots.... This is it... bye bye stock rom!

I have configured on my local desktop a pi.hole and Stubby. They were working fine and happy together, but after a comment from @FrodoSwaggins about local DNS server, I trying to add Unbound as well.
So, on my configuration, pi.hole points to unbound, which points to Stubby. Everything local, each one with their own ip@port listener, but it does not work.
If I point Unbount to an external DNS (Quad9, for exemple), it works. If I point pi.hole to Stubby, it works. But the 3 of them does not work.
Does anyone has any idea what could be happening?
Thanks!6 -
Who just accidentally volunteered to go through an apps code and write down how it all works?
This guy!
Asked what I thought was a simple yes no question and have now caused an entire department to question everything they know.
On the plus side at the end of this I'll be the go-to guy for this app. And I can document it as I go.
So win win? -
Azure, great development slots! Must have, now I can have developer, staging and production. The greatest no downtime when swapping a new server in....
Everything crashes? WTF?
OKAY, so swapping to a service that authenticates users makes the authentication part crash :/
Phew development slots ROLL BACK...
No the entire service was broken. Rolling back, all non authenticating controllers work, but the authentication never happens, so server is working, but the users cant use it. Fuck!
Delete everything. Recreate. The setting persists. WTF. Delete again, recreate, reinitialize, republish, it works as it should when tested phew.
Creating new service experiencing cant replicate. Hmm, okay must have been a glitch. Next, update, YEAH swap, no downtime!!!
*EXPLOSION* ..... RINSE AND REPEAT:/ -
Spend all day debugging simple post request. Like really what is going on. Super simple. Eyes start to bleed. Check spelling on everything. Finally find out the access-control-origin isn't set right, other dev said it was whatever so glad I'm moving on. Nope. Same error running the app from Visual Studio. Check code again. Everything works in a browser. Windows, VS, or the emulator is blocking just POST requests. I can do get requests all day.
What hell. I'm so critical of my code I spend hours pouring over something I knew was right instead of looking for network errors. I just need to trust myself I guess.
Oh and Windows Cordova apps don't support ES6 lol.1 -
Oh man, once again wasted a weekend trying to install Gentoo, without succeeding.
Pretty much everything works, except my fucking Touchpad.1 -
Maybe someone here can help me out. I get annoyed when I need to use the mouse; I lose concentration whenever I have to find it on my desk (small glance from the screen to find it). I work with a Mac and need a mouse to test everything I make works. Is there some tiny presentation roll mouse I can hold whilst I type, or a clit mouse I can add to the keyboard out there?6

Our manager told us that he is border because he has not so much to do currently. The team works fine and the customer is busy.
So he decided to contact old customers and asked if everything runs fine or if there are some improvements needed.
Now everyone in the team works in 4 projects...1 -
My college is doing a "practice run" of conducting all classes online because just in case they have to shut down the school eventually, they want to be sure that everything works. So I'll be taking classes from home this week. See how that goes, I guess...
-
Start coding a project for version 7.x, everything works in tests. Deploy it on the server and it doesn't work. Checks version and turns out it is 6.x, ask my manager why didn't he tell me before, he goes like so what, do it for all versions.
I go wtf -
That feeling when you are debugging and java keeps throwing exceptions everywhere for the whole day, and just when you are about to turn off the pc and are resigned to go home with a code full of bugs, decide to launch the program one last time and Everything compile and works properly 😍
-
This is a Rave, as opposed to a Rant. Working with a team that will actually test the backout scripts, and migrate twice in QA in order to make sure everything works. This is refreshing, because most teams don't test their backout, and you really are in trouble if your migration fails, and your backout doesn't work.

Microsoft Windows can burn.
I have this feature where I configure a remote API via some endpoints and the API pushes data back to some webhooks in my API.
Yesterday I set everything up for the final test; fired up my own API with some test data, added some configuration and started trace logging to ensure that everything works as expected when the remote site tries to send me data.
I was ready to collect ! Enter this morning: Windows have forcibly rebooted to install an update and shut everything down.
inb4 install Linux; No, I can not. Windows is company policy and I am required to use shit that is only designed for Windows.6 -
After a 3 hour fight with a custom Ajax request I have won the fight of getting a limiter run on the output. My goal was to only display x amount of result from a Json response and I finally got it working by putting everything in a if statement. Might not be the cleanest way but it works.
-
Can someone help me? I'm getting this error in VS Code while working on my Unity project. Everything was working fine for last few months. Now I'm getting false positives, because everything works fine in Unity. The problem's gone when I open "ObjectInfo" class file and save it, but I have to do it every time I start VS Code.
The type or namespace name 'ObjectInfo' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) [Assembly-CSharp] -
PISSED.
Fucking Docker, for no fucking reason (no updates, no changes, etc), I tried booting it up following the morning ritual, and nope, ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE when connecting to my current project (means I managed to connect but for some reason no data is sent). Nginx container doesn't yell about anything.
Everything around works. Accessing the container works. Even pinging my dev domain works. Why the fuck suddenly fucking Docker just **stops**?!
Restarted Hyper-V, updated laradock, recreated containers, disabled AcrylicDNS. NOPE.
"Fuck you Phlisg, I'm not in the mood today" <lunatic Docker is lunatic>
ARG. -
think the struggle with javascript comes when you have to deal with JavaScript from another language
then suddenly a u64 is randomly a float and everything crashes
actually pretty sure the API I'm hitting is written in rust and yet... something the docs say is a u64 just returned a decimaled number
I miss JavaScript where everything just works3 -
y'all got any markdown programm recommendations?
Someone (maybe on here) said they use MD for everything instead of word.
Now I wondered, which programm works well for that? Word or a full IDE seems kinda overkill
thnks10 -
I'm all spooked out. I just added complicated JS code in a massive block, doing something complicated, using syntax that I wasn't sure about.
Load the page, smugly expecting like 200 errors. None.
Alright...
Run everything... it works.
WTF.
It's all balanced out though, because then python started freaking out with the wackiest motherfucker of an error I've ever seen. (A pointer to a function magically turning into None) -

I need to quickly test how my web app works on mobile
PROBLEM: some of my features require https. I can test from my pc on localhost just fine, since localhost works.
From Android, however, those features are blocked, since I reach my webapp with my IP address; it is not localhost so Chrome raises a middle finger when I try to access the camera from an unsecured website -and rightly so.
I really need to get these tests done, how am I supposed to do?
I install an SSL certificate on my pc?!?
I disable Chrome security checks on my Android?!? (is that even possible?)
I install bluestacks real quick and hope everything works fine?!?

trying for three hours to understand why an error occurs. adding one log statement. reloading. everything works... 😡3

Everything works great on Ubuntu!
Hell yeah let's install it everywhere.
3rd hard drive dead in 6 months.
But I blame the brand, TeamGroup, or the batch was bad ( all 3 of them were bought at the same day from the same shop)15 -
Just discovered a public API that support perpage parameter.

Recruiter writes to me on LinkedIn for a job
Have an interview with the recruiter, everything smooth
Then interview with the HR of the company, everything smooth
Then the HR talks to the CTO, and the CTO is like "mmmmh this guy works as a consultant, I don't like this. Yeet him".
This absolute madman out there not giving a single flying fuck about consultants, head hunter, HR, only pure coding, literally living the dream. -
Edge cases are the best, some physical IPhone has an issue on the site. Browserstack simulation tells me everything works just splendid.

Why must pixel perfect scaling be so fucking hard... It all works perfectly but I'm limited to a max of 540p for the games camera view but as soon as you drop your resolution bellow 1080p you get stuck with 300p or lower... Ughhhhhhhh
Why did I choose to do pixel art... Wonder if converting everything to vectors would help, wonder is smashing my head into a fucking wall would help... -
fuck you windows
everything that needs wifi wont work because you are trying to tell me that im not connected. but edge works fine?
WTF?!1 -
Following this rant : https://devrant.com/rants/1276494/...
So my coworker has a displaying issue, and the support ticket took time to give answers that does not work. (To tell you, the answer started with "I think that..." You tried what you said or you just think?)
So we tried everything they proposed (initialize the lists used properly, reduces the amount of data, etc.), nothing works. Then I added my two-cents and tried something.
I deleted a CSS class on a div.
Voilà. Issue resolved, it works perfectly. Nice. -
Does this happen to you guys too?
Yesterday I was coding auth for node.js with help of tutorial (I'm pretty new to node.js). I was pretty sure that I understood how it works and I turned off my computer. Then when I was in bed ready to go to sleep I tried to go through the code in my head, but I completely forgot everything I wrote. I guess I was just copying the code without even noticing I didn't know how it works. Now I'm trying to learn it once more. -
I was maintaining Laravel 5.1 code and at that time recently updated to 5.3. Updated all server softwares n everything which took a lot of my time.
After a month, I had to add a field to table and found unusual error. In laravel 5.1 migrations, created_at and updated_at default values were set as 0000-00-00 00:00:00 and mysql update didnt allow it.
Now everything else works fine except I can't make changes to tables. Should I leave it as it is? -
Manager: we really need to get X live, do you think it's possible at the end of today.
Me: well everything pretty much works as it should but we still need to go over some details.
Manager: that's fine, just ship it we'll go over it on Monday.
Me: you got it
Message from manager at midnight: link X shouldn't open in a new tab!
Me: rolls eyes, opens computer :-/2 -
Don't spend your time trying to learn everything you need to know by reading books or watching videos. Anything you don't use immediately you'll forget and it'll go to waste. Instead, learn the bare minimum required for getting started and make stuff! After writing some buggy spaghetti code that somehow works, you're ready to read/watch some more. Then rinse and repeat.
-
Teamlead: Can you integrate feature X to project Y? The dev maintaining that project has lots of work and does not know how to do it, and we need to deliver it next week.
Me: Sure, I know that feature should not take long.
BIG MISTAKE!
For 2 hours now I'm trying to get that fucking project to run... errors, faulty configuration, tons of missing stuff in the project environment.
The list of errors grows with every step I get further. And I have not even started with the feature I should work on.
So good luck next week, my dear colleague, I'm not the one finishing your tasks from the past few months, I'm just fixing the stuff I actually need to finish my task. -
When tackling a solo project, which one of these approach do you usually use (and prefer):
A) Mash up something that works ASAP while ironing out bugs and cleaning up code later on - a.k.a. "duct tape programming".
B) Have everything planned before you even start coding. Strive to get everything right from the get go. UML diagrams galore.
p.s., If none suits you, feel free to tell us about your preferred approach anyway. Those 2 are the only thing that came on the top of my head at the moment.
p.s.s., I'm all for A. Should you care about it.3 -
Many of engineer blogs like to write about how he made the tool work, but rarely explain the back ground... like why it works, what's happening in the background, and why he chose that commands, methods, or options out of other stuff he could chose. I know it's impossible for a person to know everything, but I hope I wouldn't feel so much difficulty to find information which provides a little bit broader scope of knowledge about the tools.
-
TLDR: releasing mental pressure
How are you doing it guys, i was trying to find project where i could find out how it works, recently followed flask tutorial for blog, and checked out chat with flask-socketIO, but have overwhelming feeling like everything was already developed and Am so much behind ( like learning web in 2018 - what im doing here ) + like its not enough, all are spamming about how AI will take work also from coders -
Where are those times when nothing worked?!
Now everything works right after tremendous hustle.
okay I'm pissed off because of 3 coffee places sucked either with itnernet, or no customer service . or just closed.
then my freaken headphones.
the last one is just shippable decided that my browser is not defined.

i was around 10 year old. That time we used to use ms dos for drawing lines, traingle and stuff using commands that will print on execution . I was having hard time understanding it . I went to my father and asked for help. He taught me how it works and everything is logic only nothing else. That was life changing movement for me. Use to score very good in computers then on . Now a full time web developer

After trying to print colored text to the console using a portable Python 3 interpreter on Windows I came up with a "solution". I tried pretty much everything possible (I could think of): curses couldn't be loaded, ansi didn't work and installing libraries wasn't really an option, because it's not my device. Fuck portable interpreters and have fun with the "solution".
Def color_print(text, color):
text = text.replace("\n", "\\\" \\\"")
os.system ("powershell \"$host.ui.RawUi.ForegroundColor = \\\"" + color + "\\\"; echo \\\"" + test + "\\\"; $host.ui.RawUi.ForegroundColor = \\\"Gray\\\"")
It's slow, unreadable, only works for on Windows and requires powershell and is probably the worst piece of code I ever wrote, but it works 👍.2 -
How to realize that experience matters : make a demo where all your code works, but everything fails because the other dev has done a shitty job 😅1

i made projects in Verilog HDL for fpga and stuff for the past few months in uni and did not get time for projects in languages like c or python.
now my dumb brain can't think in a normal programming language when I'm switching back to C.
P.S. if you didn't know verilog, it works a little different from normal programming languages. everything in Verilog runs parallelly.4 -
Goddammit have tried for several days to get a vpn up and running so we can have a mac as build server.
I have opened the ports on the router, tried l2tp and openvpn, everything works on the local network.
However accessing my static ip from my ISP, it just gives me weird errors from the devices no information. Goddammit what to do....5 -
So best way for me to learn is copy paste from the documentation, then fuck everything up and then clean the mess 😌 Seriously works way better than tutorials 😂3

Everything works fine locally and at *herokuapp.com. Push to prod on release day and random bits of the HTML starts missing. Goes to senior developers, everyone scratches their heads. Finally inspect missing element.
Turnes out optimizely was still running an experiment in the background adding display:none to different HTML elements. -
I saw another rant about formatting. Now I want to complain too.
I fucking hate black formatting. Go screw yourself, it all hyped up and fucked up my code. Don't worry, everything still works, except my eyes. They got blinded everytime I see a black formatting commit. Screw you... Fire in the hole!!!!!!10 -
what is your best way of testing as human?
I create application, post on testing server, take a bath, eat something, watch a video or two, and then i start messing around, I found usually that time, your brain almost forgets everything, and works great for testing!
Share yours :) -
GhostBSD is a pretty nice try at an out-of-the-box BSD experience. Almost everything works fine on my laptop, the only issues so far being screen tearing in Firefox and flaky WiFi (what else, this is a *nix after all).
Check it out if you're interested in trying a BSD without a lot of config headache.
(That said OpenBSD is still my favourite) -
Do you know when you're testing your code and anything works as it should, even when everything looks all right? I dunno how about you, but... everytime this happens, I just change var/function name to something like "fuckingCalculate()" or "suckerAvg". It's similar as punching an old TV everytime it stops, or kicking a door that doesn't open.
.
.
Once I change the var/function to It's previous name, everything stops working as before.
.
What a shame... -
Work on something locally for a week. Everything works. Take a copy of the production db and run update scripts to the copy to make sure it goes smoothly. Nothing works. Damn.
-
Create popout pages, all looks and works well...
Except in bastarding Internet bloody Explorer -
In IE if you use one particular dropdown list then everything moves slightly to the left... Why?
Why IE, why are you still even real? Why do Microsoft think you're worth maintaining?
Why have Microsoft given us two crap browsers instead of one normal one?
You're an utter waste of time, memory and money and I want you to go away. -
Can't believe I miss my old job. Pay more here but works so much more it's crazy, and issues just never die, pages keep happening, too many clients calling our APIs and everything is spaghetti. I don't think my manager will ever promote my as it's tough to perform tbh (atleast for me).
-
yo so wtf opengl doing over there
all I can find on "APIENTRYP" is that it's "macro magic that makes everything work" but it's breaking fucking everything. I remove it and it works again (well, kinda, i still gotta fix some typing horseshit)
why is opengl in shambles i just wanna compile gdi -
I hate my internet provider.
I configure everything to work remotely and when I try to login to it I got "Http Status 502".
I thought I misconfigure something and recheck everything and still got "Http Status 502".
When I use the internet connection provided by different provider, it works!
Everything is hard to debug without you messing it up internet provider. It like trying to debug the code and find out the problem is in compiler.8 -
Why on earth would anyone agree to work in a company that sends your code to some other team to check it then you get stupid comments like yes it works great but make the code look like the code in that system we made 10 years ago so everything can look the same. Easier for maintenance.
That is not how programming works ...
Code has an essence to it...
You cant just make me break the ...
Honestly id rather work for less money and never have my code questioned on the bases that “it should look like...”1 -
I just got a new laptop and wanted to dual boot Linux on it.
Everything seemed fine until I realized the laptop had UEFI. I always used easyBCD but this won't work sadly. MS blocked some features.
Any alternatives?
What boot loader do you guys use for dual booting Linux that works with UEFI?
Thanks in advance!14 -
From a meme somewhere, but pretty accurate.

When problems occur. Boss:"Why are these guys even here?" -
What a fuck is wrong with GitHub? Almost every day there are a few minutes when requests take ages to load. Is Microsoft messing up their cloud?

Stupid Adobe Experience Manager only works in IE11.
I develop on MacBook pro.
I setup remote desktop on a windows computer at office to remote in so I can work on my MacBook remotely and deploy (manually via copy and paste into a text area called “HTML code”).
Everything is setup for the weekend.
Boom, it restarted itself and went to sleep after a Windows update...1 -
Finally implemented my first ANN in my own environment (my own Virus Game). That feeling when have tested everything and it works, so you can just relax and put your feet up and. <3

What's wrong with Eclipse? It give me errors without any actual error. I do restart everything works.
Sometimes I have to clean the project to remove errors.
Or am I doing something wrong?
Previously I have worked only in vim because my projects were small. I am not feeling good with Eclipse.5 -
FUCK.... FUCK THE FUCK
When I test my app everything works
When someone tests SHIT doesn't work on signing up user

Every couple of hours a certain request from our web app gets a CORS error from our server. Refresh the page and everything works perfectly. WTF...1

Freaking hell, why google fucking sign in not working after the app is on google play, I have tried everything, run the release app on device and everything works, I thought they are using the bundles to generate and sign the apks so learned everything about fucking bundling and generated app bundles and signed it and generated .apks file locally “I already used the release key not debug key” double checked Auth api keys and installed on device and fucking everything works on the device except if I upload to google play then download to device the middle finger is waiting and google sign in not fucking working, I moved on and attached the app to Logcat and after a lot of digging I saw the fucking error 12501, I went to sleep after seeing this fucking error number. I’m fucking traveling now.

Working on a portfolio project - I ran some tests, everything is all good - 100% passing. Computer freezes - pop_os has been giving me shit lately, so I have to restart. Fine.
I get back into code, i re-run pytest - nothing works. Python apparently can't find my modules anymore. I try a few things, nothing. Why? Who the fuck knows - "oh you need this conftest file", "oh you need to remove __init__ from this directory or that one", "oh it's a pytest version iss---" no, no, no - listen here you little shit, it was working two seconds ago. Tell me why and how software I wrote with the most basic ass package structure - literally TWO directories suddenly has no fucking clue how to import the modules. hmm? Even from within the app directory, app.server now no longer recognizes imports from app.main or app.database.
ALL of this worked. It works in new directories without dedicated venvs - it works in new directories with my global python install - it works with any one of my conda envs - it works on other computers - WHY doesn't it work in THIS directory all of a sudden?? Ugh.
What's terrible is that relative imports will probably solve it within the app dir, but the tests dir won't accept them. Moreover, vs code autocompletion can find all the modules, but python itself cannot. Fucking infuriating shit like this is.1 -

RES software
They got bought up by Ivanti but such assmonkeys evrything is next next finish untill something doesn't work or comply 🥲
Then it's backtrack backtrack undo till you find out what is wrong, within the development cycle they assume alot everything works, and you want the settings they recommend ... LOL
Errors are a thing for professionals. -
Don't you love how bad programmers show off what they did that "works"? I mean, because "working" is everything you have to consider in a software.3

It just never works when you try to set up self hostet php apps never theyre all shit they never print any useful errors they just randomly pass wrong args they use fucking ioncube fuck everything6

so yesterday i was manualy checking if endpoint works as suppoused to (there was a bug before). And nothing changed, so I deeply checked everything, refactored a bit and sent request again. Nothing changed! Breakpoints does not work. WTF! After one hour realised that I was sending requests to dev server not localhost :-( now it works fine.

you want to build a database dump with bamboo.
the job works, everything is green AF - but there are no build artifacts. you check the buildconfig 5 times and then you realize, there are blanks after the copy pattern of the frak'n build artifact.
dafuq is this..? -
Ok. I still can't get SSL working on my site so I'm gonna assume its my fault. Time to go back to a default template test that get it to work and if that works go from there. Ive done EVERYTHING my host says to on the dashboard side I can short of crying to them. And honestly. Fuck that2

Solution for some reason doesn't work correctly on dotnet core so I try with framework => works. Develop a bit further, not touching anything that happens BEFORE the broken point. Then done far enough that actually have to seriously think about deployment. Framework solution is a headache => decide to try dotnet core again and hopefully find a fix for the broken part => magically everything works. What? WHAT?
