Having PHP as my most useful skill.
I know various other languages, but they're either too exotic for professional use, or my knowledge about them doesn't have the same depth as with PHP.
People joke about how awful PHP is, and it's not entirely true. The incongruous stuff such as confusing parameter ordering can be fixed with libraries. And PHP7 fixed a lot of the ugly stuff. A good dev can certainly write structured, readable, performant PHP code.
But there is a real hard limit. PHP is missing more complex type definitions present in other languages. A weak type system is like building stuff with popsicle sticks and bits of duct tape, it works fast and perfectly fine for small projects, but the lack of strictness is a problem when you have thousands of classes intertwined in all kinds of complex factory, service and repository patterns. And the simple type hints are still newish and fully optional, which means a lot of people don't use them.
So I regret getting stuck in this self reinforcing loop, where I learn more about a very imperfect language through employment, and keep rolling into jobs using that skill because it's what I'm most experienced with.16 -
Told someone I'm working on an 0Auth server/library.
*but that already works/exists, why re-invent the weel?*
Because although it indeed already exists/works, I'd rather re-invent the weel and also throughout the process learn how it works in depth than just using an implementation and not learning much new (when I've got time, of course)!10 -
Found a random website that lets you design your own anime avatars, its quite in depth and there are many art styles from different artists available:
Pros:
* It's comprehensive, and it has a lot of styles available
* Editor is intuitive and Modern
Cons:
* It's in Japanese, you might wanna use GTranslate.
* Randomizer fucks up on some of the more in-depth art styles.
* Seems to be mobile-exclusive design for the editor.
You can check it out here: https://picrew.me
Here's a little sample from picrew on the Gorilla Art style
(Note: this is actually my GitHub avatar as well)

I've found sites like Udemy/Khanacademy/Codecademy/Brilliant/Edx to be very useful — possibly more useful than expensive education.
But they still need:
1. Better correction/update mechanisms. Human teachers make mistakes and material gets outdated, and while online teachers are rectified faster than classroom teachers, the procedure is still not optimal. Knowledge should be a bit more like a verified wiki.
2. Some have great interactive coding environments, some have great videos, some have awesome texts, some have helpful communities. None has it all. In the end, I don't want to learn a new language by writing code in my browser. It could all be integrated/synced to the point where IDEs have plugins which are synced to online videos, with tests and exercises built in, up to a social network where you could send snippets for review and add reviews to other people's code.
3. Accreditation. Some platforms offer this against payment, but I think those platforms often feel very old school (pun intended), with fixed schedules, marks and enrollments. Self paced is a must.
4. Depth is important. Current online courses are often a bit introductory. We need more advanced courses about algorithms, theoretical computer science, code design, relational algebra, category theory, etc. I get that it's about supply/demand, but we will eventually need to have those topics covered.
I do believe that for CS, full online education will eventually win from the classroom — it's still in its infancy, but has more potential to grow into correct, modern education.10 -
I'm the only windows user in my office(my only other choice was Mac). One of the salesmen walks in my office with his macbook.
salesman: what do you know about macs?
me: nothing, why?
salesman: well I just got a new MacBook and I can't right-click, is there like a setting or something I gotta click?
me: well there's no "right-click" by default on Macs, but I think there's a way so you can click with the right side of the touchpad and get the "command-click" you're looking for. stand over there quietly while I finish this function then I'll look into it.
*i proceed to fiddle with some code for 5 or so minutes while he stands in the corner*
me: ok so let's look at your MacBook... ok *at this point I jump on my computer* let's see what Google has to say.
search: enable right-click on mac
me: huh! look at that! Google gives you the answer right there, poof! like magic. now we just follow directions, system settings>keyboard and touchpad>enable click with bottom right corner. bam! anything else?
salesman: yeah, I want the little bar thing to go away *talking about the dock auto-hide
me: ok well that's called the dock, let's ask Google again...look, Google gives the answer again, without even needing to click any links, I could probably click these links and get more in-depth instructions, but right here at the top is the answer
salesman: wow man, thanks! I've got a meeting in 10 minutes and I never would have figured this out.
*before he leaves
me: here take this...

As devs we like to complain about our jobs. But I just want to take a moment and acknowledge how truly amazing writing software is. Nothing else has given me so much joy and happiness. The endless stream of new things to learn, the elusive art of clean code, and deep understanding of systems required for architecture. There is so much depth to this career we have all chosen and I hope you guys love it just as much as I do.5

Update - The 'devRant trans-oceanic 21st century message in a bottle' community project is progressing nicely.
There is terrific research being done by the team in a slack channel. It is a great fun learning experience.
We have taken the 2000 year old message in a bottle concept and are breaking new ground leveraging very cool technology. We are still in phase 1 but at a high level devRant's much coveted stress ball will cross the Atlantic Ocean in a bottle type encasing.
We will use satellite tracking and gps to track devie throughout the journey. We will use Arduino or a similar microprocessor. We may use sensors and gyros to monitor the surrounding environment for temperature and depth.
We are also studying ocean currents, shipping lanes, weather data and bottle materials to make the journey as smooth as possible.
This is an official devRant sponsored project. We encourage you and any dev friends to join the conversation. Below is a link to the original rant which has the Slack channel info.
The sun never sets on devRant and we love intriguing projects!

I hate interviewing..
The first sentence of the candidate was, that he wanted to speak in english instead of german. Great start if you stated something else in the application.
And his english was even worse than mine.
And as expected from his tags in the application, he had a broad knowledge base. From IoT, LTE, node.js TCP, Java, Ruby, Python, to VLAN and firewalls.
Guess what, he had no in depth knowledge for the required job. Suprise!21 -
At my previous job I was told by "senior" devs that my interest in learning new things and knowing more is not a good thing. And that I should learn to increase my depth in the programming of the product that was being used.
As part of my job I was asked to analyze the product's architecture. I found out that it was needlessly complicated and performed horribly. The senior devs that were on that product for a while had been hiding their mess from the rest of the teams. Needless to say, my report didn't make me very popular with them.
I was asked to help come up with a strategy for testing.
A guy who had just joined our company out of college and me worked really hard for a few weeks and managed to bring testing down from 3 months to around 3weeks. Our reward: he was fired(albeit for different reasons. The company was trying to restructure)
My yearly review was terrible and I was put on 2 months probation. So I quit.
It sucked. And made me question my ability as a programmer for a while. I've floated my own firm and though money is hard sometimes, it so much more rewarding.9 -
Hey look, npm broke my project again. Surprise!
Code and dependencies on my local machine, all untouched for a couple of weeks, no longer works. I've no idea how it even managed that.
Oh, and `npm update` crashes.
eventually solved by upgrading npm and running `npm update --depth 500` because some arbitrary child dependencies changed without updating the parent packages, ofc. on my local machine. without me having run `npm update` for about a month.
because of course that makes sense.
Second time in two months, too.
isn't npm great?3 -

Somebody asked on how to get started on Full Stack web application development.
This is how I got started.
Client side Web Application Development:
---------------------------------------------------------------
• Start with basic HTML, CSS and JS, JSON. For quick learning, see W3Schools for these topic or YouTube it.
• Get a local web server. "200 OK!" webserver chrome extension is a good start. (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...)
• Learn Chrome Dev Tools to debug the pages. YouTube it.
• Get a good IDE. I am very happy with VSCode. You can use it for very serious WebApps.
• Start learning JavaScript language in depth, but just related to Web Browser related topic or you would get sucked in server side too early.
• Install node.js. Learn NPM package manager. Learn basic node commands.
• Learn complexity of JS file referencing, JS modules in browser. Just learn, don't use it yet, to understand the benefits of code bundlers.
• Learn Webpack code bundler.
• Learn how to make you simple site much faster and using in Mobile using "Progressive Web Apps".
• Now learn to make modular UIs. I love React. Focus on getting the UI code modulear. Create Single Page sites. (You are not there yet to create a Web App) “Create-React-App” started kit is a good starting point.
• Learn to create multi-page site using React-router.
• Learn application state management using Redux.
• Learn to create application decision engine using Redux-Saga.
Practice and master each stage.
Along above, learn git / GitHub (to learn from others code), find good web resources like Medium / Smashing magazine, good YouTube channels etc. I subscribed to some popular Udemy courses too.
Server side Web development:
------------------------------------------
:) First learn client side Web Application development. Server side learning is another story.3 -
"Can you explain in depth how Google Maps works from a back end level?"
I was 19.
This was for an internship.
Needless to say, I didn't get it.9 -
I remember during my internship in a startup company, we were 3 interns and one senior and everyone had an iMac with two monitors at the beginning and a private office for each.
Later I was moved with the rest of interns to a small 1 square meter workstation and my iMac was replaced with an old Pentium 4 PC.
After that, they took my 2nd screen away.
At the end of my internship period, they said they can't afford any of the interns and they kicked us (indirectly!) away and kept the senior only.
That is my 3-month professional career in depth!5 -
When you live in a 3rd world country, get a relatively expensive 16mbps connection (that's still very unreliable), and try to clone WebKit… why the hell is it so large even with `--depth 1` and `--single-branch`? Why doesn't `git clone` support resuming/incremental cloning? Is this even 2018?
I want to code but life is actively fighting me right now. I hate this.

Just to clarify thing, FaceID isn't the same tech as what we've had on Android.
In Android, it's based on image recognition. That's the reason it was so easy to bypass with a high resolution photograph.
In FaceID, it projects thousands of dots on your face and creates a depth inclusive map which is used for verification. That's the reason why it's supposed to work even if you have glasses on, etc
So please let's stop with the comparison11 -

Why do people jump from c to python quickly. And all are about machine learning. Free days back my cousin asked me for books to learn python.
Trust me you have to learn c before python. People struggle going from python to c. But no ml, scripting,
And most importantly software engineering wtf?
Software engineering is how to run projects and it is compulsory to learn python and no mention of got it any other vcs, wtf?
What the hell is that type of college. Trust me I am no way saying python is weak, but for learning purpose the depth of language and concepts like pass by reference, memory leaks, pointers.
And learning algorithms, data structures, is more important than machine learning, trust me if you cannot model the data, get proper training data, testing data then you will get screewed up outputs. And then again every one who hype these kinds of stuff also think that ml with 100% accuracy is greater than 90% and overfit the data, test the model on training data. And mostly the will learn in college will be by hearting few formulas, that's it.
Learn a language (concepts in language) like then you will most languages are easy.
Cool cs programmer are born today😖

I recently joined a new company where work is quite different than my previous company.
Every day at work is challenging for me. There is good exposure to learn technology in depth. But time constraint to deliver module like under 3 days does not let me learn my work, also I am not satisfy with the quality of my code that I provide, it more looks like a patch. In my previous company I was favorite developer of my team but here I feel like a fresher who doesn't know from where to start.
Even I feel like my presence does not make any impact in office as I am just like an extra player of the team. I am slow at my work because I learn then I code due to which my manager does not consider me for any new work. I feel like left out in my team.
Once I overheard one of my colleague he called me helpless and were making fun of me. With every passing day I am losing my confidence.
I have no github reputation. It's like I am jack of all trades but master of none.
Every day is like big fight day in office.
I know our only way to survive in this industry is to keep on learning but in smart way. I am not sure what's that smart way?
Any advice would be helpful.4 -

As a self taught, I used to break what i want to learn into pieces and watch tutorials where people use these pieces. Then I could easily do what I learned, but I could do it exactly how I learned it from the tutorials.
Until one glorious day I found a tutorial about js that doesnt teach you the "how" of things but the "why" of things.
I cant describe how easy and in depth I understand js tutorials now. It is easier even when I have to learn a new framework.
It feels like I fast-forwarded my knowledge growth overnight.
I now see my 3 weeks old code and it disgusts me.6 -
Who's got time to be an imposter. 🤷♂️
I am out of my depth 90% of the time, always diving into areas that are foreign to me, you just need to enjoy the buzz of knowing you are coming out the other side more knowledgeable then you did going in.
But if you do get overwhelmed with this condition, step back, take a breather, and use that moment to think things through at the big picture level before moving forward again, sometimes the right solution is hard to think off when you're to focused and drowning your way through a bad one.4 -

Was at school the other day and met a dude who was told by an acquaintance that I'm a "computer guy".
Dude comes up to me and jokes that the acquaintance was spreading rumors about me being a programmer. I was a bit confused and tell him that I do in fact program, and then he asks me what I've done, to which I explain what languages I've dealt with.
Next thing he asks me: "Have you made an OS?"
BREH
He tells me about how he went through Linux From Scratch. I have no idea how in-depth that book goes, if someone who has read it could enlighten me that'd be nice.
Acquaintance mentions that I won an app contest. (At this point, I'm internally telling acquaintance to shut his face.) I explain what I made(an Android app that helps sort Lego pieces) and he promptly tells me that I just used an API and barely wrote any code.
After (hopefully calmly) going back and forth with him, I just say "So I write bad code. What's it matter to you?" He stopped talking right there.
He apologized later. Yeah right, I'm sure you're sorry.6 -
Brilliant idea time:
Inspired by @TrojanMorse and his fractal trees
A fractal tree wallpaper that grows throughout the day.
So at 12 a script starts a new fractal and only uses depth 1 (a twig). Then every other hour it branches once more so at 2 am the fractal would have depth 2 and at noon it would have depth 7. That way you get a tree growing throughout the day for your screensaver. Now to make this a thing13 -
Fuck safari literally nothing does what it's supposed to do, I have a `document.getElementById('x').innerText = "hello there"` but it sets a totally different element to that text, this is apparently because of display: none although JS should NOT look at css wtf.
There's a whole bunch of these issues but I won't rant about them until I've solved them so I can fully explore the depth of stupidity in safari. If you work for apple and developed WebCore or WebKit, I'm sorry but I hate you and you would be better off shipping with lynx.3 -
Watched a TED Talk about this cool site that wants to bring open education to all.
Forgot about it.
Remembered i
the video a week later, checked it out.
Front page saw a course for Python for beginners.
Watched the first video.
Got hooked.
Never turned back.
Thanks Coursera :)
After that I relied more on books as the knowledge is layed out in a more concrete fashion and are probably nore revised. So better content, more accurate information, more advanced and in depth knowledge. -
Full stack developer.
I know what it's supposed to mean, but I feel like it gives discredit to the devs who perfect their area (frontend, backend, db, infrastructure). It's, to me, like calling myself a chef because I can cook dinner..
The depth, analysis and customization of the domain to shape an api to a website is never appreciated. The finicle tweaks on the frontend to make those final touches. Then comes a brat who say they are full stack, and can do all those things. Bullshit. 99.9% of them have never done anything but move data through layers and present it.
Throw these wannabes an enterprise system with monoliths and microservices willy nelly, orchestrate that shit with a vertical slice nginx ssi with disaster recovery, horizontal scaling, domain modeling, version management, a busy little bus and events flowing all decimal points of 2pi. Then, if you fully master everything going on there, I believe you are full stack.
Otherwise you just scraped the surface of what complexities software development is about. Everyone who can read a tutorial can scrape together an "in-out" website. But if your db is looking the same as your api, your highest complexity is the alignment of an infobox, I will laugh loud at your full stack.
And if you told me in an interview that you are full stack, you'd better have 10+ years experience and a good list of failed and successful projects before I'd let you stay the next two minutes..1 -
Probably the MOST complete software book on a very broad subject.
This is book to read for those of you are near college grad, first job in the industry. But to the level of detail and broad coverage this book has I think it’s actually a great book for everyone in the industry almost as a “baseline”
From requirements, project planning, workflow paradigms. Software Architecture design, variable naming, refactoring, testing, releasing the book covers everything, not only high level but also in reference to C.
Why C ...because in the consumer electronics, automotive industry, medical electronics and other industries creating physical products c is the language of choice, no changing that. BUT it’s not a C book... it contains C and goes into dept into C but it’s not a C book, C is more like a vehicle for the book, because there are long established, successful industry’s built around it. Plenty of examples.
When I say it’s the most complete on a broad subject seriously like example the chapter about the C language is not a brief over like many other books, for example 10 pages alone are dedicated to just pointer! Many C books have only a few paragraphs on the subject. This goes on depth.
Other topics, recursion, how to write documentation for your code.
Lots of detail and philosophy of the construction of software.
Even if you are a veteran software engineer you could probably learn a thing or two from the book.
It’s not book that you can finish in weekend, unless you can read and comprehend over 1000 pages.
Very few books cover such a broad topic ALL while still going into great detail on those subtopics. the second part is what lacks in most “broad topic books” ..
Code Complete.. is definitely “Complete”
So the image doesn’t match the rest of my book images because I tried to make an amage to cover of the book, inception style kinda haha 😂

Honestly these icons are really nice and are a good medium between clean and defined. I think Material failed as a whole to accomplish the paper look but this is very well done and has subtle but not 2008-era giga-drop-shadow depth. Well done, weather app.

First year: intro to programming, basic data structures and algos, parallel programming, databases and a project to finish it. Homework should be kept track of via some version control. Should also be some calculus and linear algebra.
Second year:
Introduce more complex subjects such as programming paradigms, compilers and language theory, low level programming + logic design + basic processor design, logic for system verification, statistics and graph theory. Should also be a project with a company.
Year three:
Advanced algos, datastructures and algorithm analysis. Intro to Computer and data security. Optional courses in graphics programming, machine learning, compilers and automata, embedded systems etc. ends with a big project that goes in depth into a CS subject, not a regular software project in java basically.4 -
Not quite a rant... more of a question.
So, I'm almost 40 years old. I have a lot of work experience in varying fields, much of it in low-level management.
Truth is I've ALWAYS wanted to be a programmer.
I recently got into a somewhat competitive training program
where I'm learning to write Java, and will subsequently learn Android development. It's fairly in-depth, so it will take 10 moths to complete. My ultimate goal it's to work as a mobile dev at a great company, making products people love. Ambitious, I know.
My question is: Am I a fool for attempting to get into this field at this age? I'm starting to panic a little. I'm not sure if I'm wasting my time, or if 40 is too old to be the "newbie".
Thoughts?13 -
Why is it that the internet is full of fucking "getting started" and "crashcourse" and "essentails" bullshit, but when you're looking for some truly deep stuff like all the ins & outs of MacOS native app devevlopment using SwiftUI, there's NOTHING!
For fuck's sake. People really only demand superficial fake knowledge and don't require depth at all?!!11 -
Dear coworker,
when I asked: "So, how does it work?", I didn't expect the answer to be: "Well, you push this button, wait three seconds and when it's finished, this LED turns on."
I was hoping for a more in-depth description (like, the way you'd consider me to be seriously interested in your work or learning from you) along the lines of "Well, you see, I have written this CLI-Tool here, which connects to the adapter and parses the contents of the file via serial interface to the on-board controller. This controller performs an integrity check of the device and then decides whether to flash or not. The testing unit itself checks if its being programmed with the right parameters."
Of course I know how a programming device works but I was interested in your solution in this special case ... so I think I'll just check the doc later if there'll ever be some.4 -
It was 1987. I was 13. My first dev project started with a $1,300 IBM PC XT clone I bought from a relative who was a “dealer” of PCs for some company. It took all the savings I had from birthday money and mowing lawns for several summers at $5 a pop.
My mom wanted to encourage me to learn it more in depth, and she also wanted to know more for her job as a librarian, so she bought us a bunch of books about DOS, BASIC, and Assembler.
I first got familiar with DOS and then dove into Assembler without realizing what it really was (and how much easier BASIC would be). After hours and hours of typing in what, to me, then, was complete gibberish, I grabbed the BASIC book to see what it had to offer.
I never went back to the Assembler book.
A kid at school had given me a BASIC program he had typed in from a magazine. It was a flight simulator of sorts but with a helicopter, IIRC. I loaded up that bad boy and got to hacking. I didn’t get much done with it but I did build a few other menu navigation programs to explore the language more.
That led to PROLOG, C, PASCAL, Visual Basic, Perl, ASP, ColdFusion, and now PHP. -

Arduino CNC
Hey guys.
Since I mostly see frameworks to use with G-Code in Arduino CNCs I'm gonna make my own framework, where you don't need to know G-Code and the code is executed by Arduino code.
The code would include a template to define steppers steps and such.
Would include a library to work with different stepper shields.
Would this interest to anyone?
I'll provide a full example with stuff to learn for any amateur working with CNCs or that want to work with one. If you're not interested, thank you for reading, you can stop here.
Ex:
X(10);
Y(-5.5);
XY(6,7.5);
Z(-10);
This framework would only use incremental coordinates and will work for basic forms, drilling and such.
<Tutorial>
Coordinates.
Coordinates can be relative/incremental or absolute.
Lets say you have a square with 10mm, (top coordinates: (X=0,Y=0) to (X=10,Y=10).
think your drawing this square.
First line:
X0, Y0
Absolute: x10,y0
Relative: X+10
Second line:
A: x10,y10
R: Y+10
Third Line (...)
Absolute is a fixed point (coordinate)
Relative is a distance to move (not a coordinate but the distance and direction)
</Tutorial>
So, to cut a square with a TR10 (end mill with radius=5, diameter=10)
<code>
// You don't place + in positive values
// The tool always cut in the direction of the tool rotation, meaning on the left of the material.
Z(10); // Security Distance
XY(-5,0); //Compensate the diameter of the tool in radius
Z(-1); // Z=0 is the top of the block to mill, in this case. Z=0 can also be in the bottom
Y(15); //Second Point
X(15); // Third Point
Y(-15); // Forth point
X-15; // Fifth Point
(repeat)
</code>
Now we have a block with 1mm depth. If you use a while or for you can repeat the sequence for x=n passages, change the value to Z for the depth and your done.30 -
Man, contributing to open source projects seems very intimidating to me.
I have never contributed to one of those repos on Github with a shit-ton of stars and a load of watchers. Made up my mind to start sometime around the start of September. Looked up a repo that I was very excited to contribute to. Went through their really large codebase, tried to understand as much as I could (They have a fair amount of documentation, but I just can't understand a lot of design decisions that were taken). Looked up one of the open issues marked for newbies, went through the relevant code to understand where and how I would have to make my changes in the code, and was about to start... when a seasoned contributor submitted a pull request.
This same occurrence has repeated itself 3 times now. If you mark an issue for beginners, maybe let the beginners handle them? Also, if you plan to contribute to an issue, why not announce your intention to do so? Get the issue assigned to you, so no one else ends up wasting their time coming up with a solution.
I would love to recommend this to the contributing team, but I am just way too scared to initiate a conversation with these guys. I mean, they are way more experienced and knowledgeable than me (some of them are even famous!).
I am definitely out of my depth with this project, and maybe should look for an easier one, but I really want to rise up to the challenge. Guess I'll stick around then, just waiting for my chance. :|3 -
Sometimes I just don't know what to say anymore
I'm working on my engine and I really wanna push high triangle counts. I'm doing a pretty cool technique called visibility rendering and it's great because it kind of balances out some known causes of bad performance on GPUs (namely that pixels are always rasterized in quads, which is especially bad for small triangles)
So then I come across this post https://tellusim.com/compute-raster... which shows some fantastic results and just for the fun of it I implement it. Like not optimized or anything just a quick and dirty toy demo to see what sort of performance I can get
... I just don't know what to say. Using actual hardware accelerated rasterization, which GPUs are literally designed to be good at, I render about 37 million triangles in 3.6 ms. Eh, fine but not great. Then I implement this guys unoptimized(!) software rasterizer and I render the same scene in 0.5 ms?!
IT'S LITERALLY A COMPUTE SHADER. I rasterize the triangles manually IN SOFTWARE and write them out with 64-bit atomic image stores. HOW IS THIS FASTER THAN ACTUAL HARDWARE!???
AND BY LIKE A ORDER OF MAGNITUDE AT THAT???
Like I even tried doing some optimizations like backface cone culling on the meshlets, but doing that makes it slower. HOW. Im rendering 37 million triangles without ANY fancy tricks. No hi-z depth culling which a GPU would normally do. No backface culling which a GPU with normally do. Not even damn clipping of triangles. I render ALL of them ALL the time. At 0.5 ms4 -

About to start my real first Java project to learn the language in-depth: a virtual ATM featuring a GUI and a networking system for the transmission of banking data to and from a server. Since I particularly care about security this will surely help me get a better understanding of everything involved. Wish me luck.16

This was a long time ago, when I was an 18 year old junior dev in my first job and still studying at college part of the time.
The lead programmer saying things like “we [meaning the experienced devs] are alright if this project goes wrong but you need to prove that you can deliver because you could be out of a job”.
Thanks. Mofo set me right up for lasting confidence issues.
Less than two years later I was killing it when the language they used became object oriented. That asshole couldn’t understand any of the concepts.
That feeing of being out of my depth has lingered though.2 -

Hey, can anybody help me?
I have to improve this AI for the game Reversi (Orthego).
I do not have any clue how to begin.
I only know we have to do it recursive and the depth is really low because it has to react within 1 second.
The task suggestion is that we can use MinMax, Alpha-Beta....

Bit of an odd question maybe, but when sending out your CV to a company over email, what would you expect to be written / write in the email itself?
I've got a sysadmin position that I'd really like to apply to, and it seems like I'm ticking all the boxes, however some of the things like SSH authentication (I mean it's fairly basic, isn't it) I haven't mentioned on the CV at all because I feel it's to be assumed. But I'd like to mention it in the email itself along with motivation. Apparently there's this thing called a "motivation letter"? How does that work?
Point is, I could go on all day about these services they ask about and how they already exist in my home lab, but I'm not entirely sure whether I should just keep it brief and just say "here's my CV and there's my number", or go a bit in-depth about it in the mail. Perhaps something in between?9 -
My God is map development insane. I had no idea.
For starters did you know there are a hundred different satellite map providers?
Just kidding, it's more than that.
Second there appears to be tens of thousands of people whos *entire* job is either analyzing map data, or making maps.
Hell this must be some people's whole *existence*. I am humbled.
I just got done grabbing basic land cover data for a neoscav style game spanning the u.s., when I came across the MRLC land cover data set.
One file was 17GB in size.
Worked out to 1px = 30 meters in their data set. I just need it at a one mile resolution, so I need it in 54px chunks, which I'll have to average, or find medians on, or do some sort of reduction.
Ecoregions.appspot.com actually has a pretty good data set but that's still manual. I ran it through gale and theres actually imperceptible thin line borders that share a separate *shade* of their region colors with the region itself, so I ran it through a mosaic effect, to remove the vast bulk of extraneous border colors, but I'll still have to hand remove the oceans if I go with image sources.
It's not that I havent done things involved like that before, naturally I'm insane. It's just involved.
The reason for editing out the oceans is because the oceans contain a metric boatload of shades of blue.
If I'm converting pixels to tiles, I have to break it down to one color per tile.
With the oceans, the boundary between the ocean and shore (not to mention depth information on the continental shelf) ends up sharing colors when I do a palette reduction, so that's a no-go. Of course I could build the palette bu hand, from sampling the map, and then just measure the distance of each sampled rgb color to that of every color in the palette, to see what color it primarily belongs to, but as it stands ecoregions coloring of the regions has some of them *really close* in rgb value as it is.
Now what I also could do is write a script to parse the shape files, construct polygons in sdl or love2d, and save it to a surface with simplified colors, and output that to bmp.
It's perfectly doable, but technically I'm on savings and supposed to be calling companies right now to see if I can get hired instead of being a bum :P14 -
I was so in-depth thinking about coding that I didn't realize that the finger I was sucking was prior used to scratch my testicles..
Please god, I hope I'm not the only one.4 -
One more time.
ppi != resolution != size ! = aspect ratio
ppi is a measurement of sharpness.
Resolution is the depth of pixels.
Size is width and height mesured in units.
Aspect ratio is the... ratio of width to height.2 -
So recently I had an argument with gamers on memory required in a graphics card. The guy suggested 8GB model of.. idk I forgot the model of GPU already, some Nvidia crap.
I argued on that, well why does memory size matter so much? I know that it takes bandwidth to generate and store a frame, and I know how much size and bandwidth that is. It's a fairly simple calculation - you take your horizontal and vertical resolution (e.g. 2560x1080 which I'll go with for the rest of the rant) times the amount of subpixels (so red, green and blue) times the amount of bit depth (i.e. the amount of values you can set the subpixel/color brightness to, usually 8 bits i.e. 0-255).
The calculation would thus look like this.
2560*1080*3*8 = the resulting size in bits. You can omit the last 8 to get the size in bytes, but only for an 8-bit display.
The resulting number you get is exactly 8100 KiB or roughly 8MB to store a frame. There is no more to storing a frame than that. Your GPU renders the frame (might need some memory for that but not 1000x the amount of the frame itself, that's ridiculous), stores it into a memory area known as a framebuffer, for the display to eventually actually take it to put it on the screen.
Assuming that the refresh rate for the display is 60Hz, and that you didn't overbuild your graphics card to display a bazillion lost frames for that, you need to display 60 frames a second at 8MB each. Now that is significant. You need 8x60MB/s for that, which is 480MB/s. For higher framerate (that's hopefully coupled with a display capable of driving that) you need higher bandwidth, and for higher resolution and/or higher bit depth, you'd need more memory to fit your frame. But it's not a lot, certainly not 8GB of video memory.
Question time for gamers: suppose you run your fancy game from an iGPU in a laptop or whatever, with 8GB of memory in that system you're resorting to running off the filthy iGPU from. Are you actually using all that shared general-purpose RAM for frames and "there's more to it" juicy game data? Where does the rest of the operating system's memory fit in such a case? Ahhh.. yeah it doesn't. The iGPU magically doesn't use all that 8GB memory you've just told me that the dGPU totally needs.
I compared it to displaying regular frames, yes. After all that's what a game mostly is, a lot of potentially rapidly changing frames. I took the entire bandwidth and size of any unique frame into account, whereas the display of regular system tasks *could* potentially get away with less, since most of the frame is unchanging most of the time. I did not make that assumption. And rapidly changing frames is also why the bitrate on e.g. screen recordings matters so much. Lower bitrate means that you will be compromising quality in rapidly changing scenes. I've been bit by that before. For those cases it's better to have a huge source file recorded at a bitrate that allows for all these rapidly changing frames, then reduce the final size in post-processing.
I've even proven that driving a 2560x1080 display doesn't take oodles of memory because I actually set the timings for such a display in order for a Raspberry Pi to be able to drive it at that resolution. Conveniently the memory split for the overall system and the GPU respectively is also tunable, and the total shared memory is a relatively meager 1GB. I used to set it at 256MB because just like the aforementioned gamers, I thought that a display would require that much memory. After running into issues that were driver-related (seems like the VideoCore driver in Raspbian buster is kinda fuckulated atm, while it works fine in stretch) I ended up tweaking that a bit, to see what ended up working. 64MB memory to drive a 2560x1080 display? You got it! Because a single frame is only 8MB in size, and 64MB of video memory can easily fit that and a few spares just in case.
I must've sucked all that data out of my ass though, I've only seen people build GPU's out of discrete components and went down to the realms of manually setting display timings.
Interesting build log / documentary style video on building a GPU on your own: https://youtube.com/watch/...

How ignorant we all are about the world. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just a fact. After a four year degree I've learnt so much, how a computer works from the physical phenomena on the hardware level to the inner workings of an OS to the highest level abstractions of modern web development, a wide array of programming languages covering several different paradigms, mathematics from calculus to statistics to algebra, how to work with databases, how to administrate a server, how to build a website, and much more.
And that's just in a degree. I have knowledge in one domain and I wouldn't even call myself an expert in it. Medicine, physics, biology, the hundreds of branches of engineering from civil to nautical to aerospace to automobile, to geology to meteorology to astronomy, to the practical application of this knowledge in hundreds of trades. There's so much more to know in so much depth and only recently have I realized how little we all know on an individual level.
Finding this out has been a mixed bag, on the one hand it's made me value what I know and what others can teach me a hell of a lot more, on the other, knowing that people haven't realized this and adamantly discuss and impose from a position of ignorance isn't very nice.
tl;dr I know that I know nothing3 -
Not sure if I found a red flag or a green flag…
“The candidate needs to know react well. No, using npx create-react-app is not enough!”
On a first sight one may think: “oh cool they search someone with in depth knowledge”
On a second thought, tho…
- Am I going to need to start many react projects in the role? Don’t think so.
- if I am… am I forbidden to use cra? Why? 🤔
- how is not using a bootstrapper a sign of “deep knowledge”?
Sounded interesting at first, but the more I think about it, the more I think this request is a red flag.9 -

Submitted my third pull request today in just a couple months as an intern, got told I'm doing a great job and already being considered to move to a more in depth dev team. Honestly a dream come true. Great company, great people, and I have a solid shot at a REAL full time dev position after college. I'm so happy man all that work finally paying off. -
I aspire to become the type of dev that understands frameworks and has technical depth rather than the type that just implements things but it's a struggle. I don't know where the foundations are.7

Hey, been gone a hot minute from devrant, so I thought I'd say hi to Demolishun, atheist, Lensflare, Root, kobenz, score, jestdotty, figoore, cafecortado, typosaurus, and the raft of other people I've met along the way and got to know somewhat.
All of you have been really good.
And while I'm here its time for maaaaaaaaath.
So I decided to horribly mutilate the concept of bloom filters.
If you don't know what that is, you take two random numbers, m, and p, both prime, where m < p, and it generate two numbers a and b, that output a function. That function is a hash.
Normally you'd have say five to ten different hashes.
A bloom filter lets you probabilistic-ally say whether you've seen something before, with no false negatives.
It lets you do this very space efficiently, with some caveats.
Each hash function should be uniformly distributed (any value input to it is likely to be mapped to any other value).
Then you interpret these output values as bit indexes.
So Hi might output [0, 1, 0, 0, 0]
while Hj outputs [0, 0, 0, 1, 0]
and Hk outputs [1, 0, 0, 0, 0]
producing [1, 1, 0, 1, 0]
And if your bloom filter has bits set in all those places, congratulations, you've seen that number before.
It's used by big companies like google to prevent re-indexing pages they've already seen, among other things.
Well I thought, what if instead of using it as a has-been-seen-before filter, we mangled its purpose until a square peg fit in a round hole?
Not long after I went and wrote a script that 1. generates data, 2. generates a hash function to encode it. 3. finds a hash function that reverses the encoding.
And it just works. Reversible hashes.
Of course you can't use it for compression strictly, not under normal circumstances, but these aren't normal circumstances.
The first thing I tried was finding a hash function h0, that predicts each subsequent value in a list given the previous value. This doesn't work because of hash collisions by default. A value like 731 might map to 64 in one place, and a later value might map to 453, so trying to invert the output to get the original sequence out would lead to branching. It occurs to me just now we might use a checkpointing system, with lookahead to see if a branch is the correct one, but I digress, I tried some other things first.
The next problem was 1. long sequences are slow to generate. I solved this by tuning the amount of iterations of the outer and inner loop. We find h0 first, and then h1 and put all the inputs through h0 to generate an intermediate list, and then put them through h1, and see if the output of h1 matches the original input. If it does, we return h0, and h1. It turns out it can take inordinate amounts of time if h0 lands on a hash function that doesn't play well with h1, so the next step was 2. adding an error margin. It turns out something fun happens, where if you allow a sequence generated by h1 (the decoder) to match *within* an error margin, under a certain error value, it'll find potential hash functions hn such that the outputs of h1 are *always* the same distance from their parent values in the original input to h0. This becomes our salt value k.
So our hash-function generate called encoder_decoder() or 'ed' (lol two letter functions), also calculates the k value and outputs that along with the hash functions for our data.
This is all well and good but what if we want to go further? With a few tweaks, along with taking output values, converting to binary, and left-padding each value with 0s, we can then calculate shannon entropy in its most essential form.
Turns out with tens of thousands of values (and tens of thousands of bits), the output of h1 with the salt, has a higher entropy than the original input. Meaning finding an h1 and h0 hash function for your data is equivalent to compression below the known shannon limit.
By how much?
Approximately 0.15%
Of course this doesn't factor in the five numbers you need, a0, and b0 to define h0, a1, and b1 to define h1, and the salt value, so it probably works out to the same. I'd like to see what the savings are with even larger sets though.
Next I said, well what if we COULD compress our data further?
What if all we needed were the numbers to define our hash functions, a starting value, a salt, and a number to represent 'depth'?
What if we could rearrange this system so we *could* use the starting value to represent n subsequent elements of our input x?
And thats what I did.
We break the input into blocks of 15-25 items, b/c thats the fastest to work with and find hashes for.
We then follow the math, to get a block which is
H0, H1, H2, H3, depth (how many items our 1st item will reproduce), & a starting value or 1stitem in this slice of our input.
x goes into h0, giving us y. y goes into h1 -> z, z into h2 -> y, y into h3, giving us back x.
The rest is in the image.
Anyway good to see you all again.

I begin with the optimism and the joy that I am creating something new that will improve people's lives.
I listen to the user and analyze the current process in depth.
I try to suggest additional value to the system for the users consideration. Sometimes they do not realize we can improve 10x rather than 2x.
I learn what the users goals are and what they want out of the system. We think about reports and downstream value. Sort of working from the end to the beginning (data ingests and upstream processes that will feed the system).
After the user signs off on the requirements and deliverables and I have a realistic project plan I begin to code.
It works and has worked for me every time for a long long time. -
Decided to jump into the machine learning bandwagon and picked up a few books and some online courses. I already feel way out of my depth.5

What will happen if every school starts teaching with binary numbers before the easy decimal number system?
I think it would be challenging initially but it can have a much greater impact on how we think and it can open a completely new possibility of faster algorithms that can directly be understood by computers.
The reason people hate binary systems is that all their life they make the decimal system a habit which makes them reluctant to learn binary systems into that much depth later on.
Just a thought. But I really believe if I would have learned the binary system before the decimal system than my brain would see things in a totally different way than it does now.
It sounds a little geeky yet thoughtful12 -
In a time where a web dev is expected to know, well.. everything... Backend -JAVA, python, nodejs and C++ would be great.
Front- angular, react, other 10 libs
DBs -sql, mongo, redis, elastic, kafka, rebbitmq
Also be devops on the side with AWS and docker kubernetis and more stuff
How the f is that possible?
In my real job for the last couple of years and different companies, I usually use 1 language/framework & 1 main DB.. and although it's possible in some companies, but in mine, ppl dont get access to AWS etc..
So let's say there's me.. a server side dev for years.
So I decide to be better and learn Golang.. cool lang, never needed in my job, after few days of not using it I forgot all I learned and that was it.
Then I realized I gotta know some frontend cause everyone want a fullstack ninja nowadays.. so I tried Vuejs.. it was amazing .. never got to use it at work, cause i was a backend, and we didnt use frameworks on our products back then..
Also forgotten.
Then I decided to learned nodejs, because this is the coolest thing ever.. hated it, but whatever... Never got to use it at work, cause everything was written in other lang which the whole team knew... Forgot the little i knew.
Then I decided, its time to see what Angular is, cause everyone started using it... similar idea to vuejs which i barely remembered, but wow it's a lot of code to remember, or I'll have to google everything.. so I went over it, but can't say i even learned it.
Now Im trying to move on to python, which, I really am learning in depth.. however, since I dont have real experience with it, no one gives me a shot at being a python dev, so again i feel like I'm trying to memorize syntax and wasting my time..
Tired of seeing React in all job ads, i decided to have a look what's that all about.. and whadoyaknow... It's fucking the same idea as vue/angular with again different syntax..
THIS IS CRAZY!
in how many syntaxes do i need to know how to make a fucking crud api, and a page with same fucking post form, TO BE A GOOD PROGRAMMER?!?6 -
*background: client has told account manager he's not paying any more money till his site is done, not only is it the most in-depth WordPress site we've made, but we'll beyond the scope of the signed contract. He sent a few more edits over the weekend which I ignored because we have a team meeting later to discuss he client and where to go from here.
account manager comes in and says he has a call from client looking for me. I tell him that he should probably take a message as I'm not in the mood to be belittled by the client and we have a meeting later to discuss him anyways, we'll call him back.
AM: Come on, he says it'll only take a second and I'll be here so we can do it on speaker.
he transfers the call and we start talking in my office, before the client has even finished his first remark, the AM has left the room. Now we have the least social person in the office talking to the client when both parties are less than happy.
I managed to keep my cool and not tell the client to fuck off, and made sure I was clear about not promising any of his new edits.
Phrases like "that will take time and money" were used a lot.
There may be shots fired at the meeting later.4 -
Guess fullstack is now the trending thing. Read a book on javascript and code examples in the book, do same thing with python or any other backend.
As soon as you are done, add fullstack to your bio.
So many newbies following this path. Coding up alot of examples with no real depth in any particular language.6 -
I started applying for jobs. As I have over 150 repos on GitHub and 10 years of relevant work experience, the company obviously had trouble validating if I had some basic coding skills. That's why they decided to send me a coding "homework" task to build an app in React Native.
Basically, the task was building an app with 2 screens and one bonus where they indicated "doesn't need a UI". I spent half a day spinning up their project, installing XCode, their specific versions of Ruby, and around half a day building the thing.
Obviously, I wanted to demonstrate my technical skills, so I added a few tests, proper typing, comments, and so on. The project was in a good state, and on the "bonus" screen I quickly added a few components. Since I have a lot of things going on, I capped the amount of time to one day of work. I felt it was good enough to demonstrate I can build something like this.
A few days later, I received a response from the recruiter telling me they wouldn't move forward. She in depth explained that this was because of a missing key property. I did indeed miss one key property on the "bonus" screen, in the part that was not even part of the core task. This was a list of very few static elements, and the entire list only got rerendered when changing routes. Basically in this case, there would not be any visible performance impact.
The recruiter explained in the email that I was missing the eye for detail they need, and that I should "educate" myself more about lists in React. I made one tiny silly mistake in a one-day project, that a linter would've taken out (if this project had one). I've contributed to React Native myself and worked with React for almost 7 years now? Yeah, it's a stupid thing, but what is the point of these types of tasks? I thought this was to demonstrate my skillset, not to be called out on.
Either way, my question here is this: at which point does it become appropriate to send an invoice for the time I wasted on this?5 -
Started my PhD today. I feel so out of my depth, but so happy to be challenged at the same time. It's a weird combination.3

I don't like Agile so much. Things are always rushed and you rarely ever have 30 minutes to discuss something in depth, not even in the retrospective meeting. Team mates too busy to discuss concerns. Sigh.12

AI is dumb and is not going to rob your work as a programmer.
Expanding on this:
https://devrant.com/rants/12459112/...
Don't know about the others, but programming and IT is mostly safe unless you're a secretary answering to mails pressing 1 keystroke at time with index finger.
Bullshit.
I’ve tried EVERYTHING. As a developer, I know exactly what instructions to give and how to explain them. I tried this stuff for years.
I abandoned the idea to give Ai a full blown workspace to vscode with copilot, even with experimental LLMS (Claude 3.5, Gpt4o, o1, as per my linked post, copilot is dumb as a rock), because it fucks up every fucking time so bad.
I tried getting an AI to build a simple project, something that has plenty of samples of code around, something that I was sure it could have been in its training dataset. A copy of Arkanoid, in HTML/CSS/JS, even reformulating the prompts over and over with different LLMs that claim to have reasoning abilities. I provided detailed feedback step by step, pointed out the errors, improvements, and problems in-depth to: o3, o1, 4o, deepseekv3+R1, and Qwen 2.5 Ultra. I even activated web search and suggested scanning GitHub repos when necessary. I gave examples of code after several failed attempts.
And guess what? Nothing. A total mess. Half the time, the game didn’t even run, and when it did, everything was wrong—bricks overlapping, barely anything working the way I asked. Even though the internet is full of similar code, and I gave it part of the solution myself when it couldn’t figure it out.
Don’t worry, AI isn’t going to steal your job—it’s just a broken toy. Fine for repetitive, simple tasks, but nothing more.
It's years that they make hyped up bold statements that the next model will revolutionize everything and it's years that I get delusional results.
It's just good at replacing some junior bovine work like mapping some classes or writing some loops with not too much variables and logics involved.
Sigh. My error was getting too comfortable using it and trusting/hoping that this ramp up in AI developement would have brought an easier life to dev.
Silly mistake.2 -
So I do not get why people use ReactJS. I hate it. for 3 years passionately. And I have to work with it every day.
- one-way data binding
this makes you write twice as much code, which will have twice as much bugs, you need to read through twice as much code from other devs.
- mixing html and JS
after all I like to pour my coffee on my omlette so I can eat and drink at the same time in the morning. This kills productivity and ugly AF
- not unified
Every dev uses their own special snowflake framework with React there is no unified way of doing things and you cannot use your familiar tools. Every project you need to start over from zero.
- Bugs bugs bugs
infinite loops, max update depth reached, key not present on list element. Let me ask you something dear ReactJS. If you know that there should be a unique key on that element. Why cannot you just put it there and shut the f up?
- works reeaally slow when compiled with TS
ReactJS was never designed to work with TS and now the tools for it are really slow. And why TS? Explicit contract is always better than an implicit contract. TS helps you in coding time, but for some reason React devs decided to worth 3 seconds to wait for compile and then realize you mad an error. ReactJS is bad and inefficient so stop making projects with it please.9 -
Hello everyone :)
So, I've recently switched from Windows 8 to Debian on my work (or study, rather) laptop, and so far it's been pretty intuitive and practical! But I'd like to explore the world ofr Linux a bit more in-depth, especially considering the fact that I'll "soon" head off to study Security in university. So, here's my question for y'all: does anybody happen to have good resources to share about linux system administration?
Thanks in advance! ^^14 -
Stuxnet's job quest part 3:
(P1: https://devrant.com/rants/1573298/)
(P2: https://devrant.com/rants/1583743/)
(TLDR for the two parts: I'm interviewing for a job at the tech support center at my uni. Had a phone interview last week, questions like they asked below.)
So they called the me Wednesday and asked to set up a face to face interview. I go in on Wednesday for the interview.
What kind of questions should I expect? Similar to the same ones asked during a phone interview, such as:
• If you could be anyone, who and why?
• What do you know about us?
• Steps you'd take to troubleshoot issues?
• Explain a virus to a technologically illiterate person.
Or are the face to face questions more in depth and I should prepare a bit more?2 -
Don't you guys think we need live programming?
Like a development runtime, instead of doing this whole file based development thing? We edit files, and then run them, why aren't we just running a program constantly and editing it as it runs? It would let us inherently take advantage of concepts like objects and lists instead of having to build plugins that analyse and modify our files to sort of act like complex programming data structures.
If we just programmed using these complex data structures to begin with.
Like do you realise how antiquated the idea of a file is, and folder, that's literally a paper based analogy.
Imagine if we just had objects, with pointers and property names, the best we have is ln -s file1 file2 but that's not a real pointer.
Anyway, hope someone understands me!
I'm writing a medium article called a world beyond files but I'm stuck at how low level to go and who the audience of the article should be.
I went really in depth into what this idea of an "object" is, and how it can be expressed in a file but once a program picks it up it becomes much more and almost alive.12 -
Shit week....
Defragmentation of several applications codebase(s), sifting out duplicate code and creating a library out of it. Bash.
Not funny.
Yesterday while cooking I was too fast.
Chopping board with adjustable cutting depth, was at 6mm. Right thumb. Full speed. :(
Boy that wasn't pretty. Bled for half an hour and created quite a mess while trying to find some band aid to get pressure on it. Guess I'll have fun the next week's as no thumb is pretty handicapped .
And today we have in Germany a pretty severe snow storm.
I really hope that the server rooms @ company don't get flooded or shit like that.6 -
(Part 1/2?)
Ohhh my god am I furious and this one's a gem.
Also I'm gonna namespoil all of the entities in my post. If this is against rant rules I'll reframe it.
So the story starts over an year ago. Me, being in a bad place, where I couldn't do a job due to external issues, wanted to try out an internship. Thought I could pull off a 5 hour shift and then attend to my problems.
THE INTERNSHALA ARC:
I apply to a bunch of applications on Angel, Internshala and Indeed.
I was contacted by a few handful of these places. One of them was called "ARCHITECTA SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS". These guys had arranged an online aptitude test for me which I promptly took.
I looked up this company and they seemed like a pretty okay big firm from the outset but didn't have many reviews on Glassdoor and likes of such. (first red flag). Post aptitude test, I was quite sure I fucked up and wouldn't get further contact. Surprisingly, a person from the company sends me his Whatsapp number over chat and asks me to save it. The message is worded like a bulk email (Starting with Hello everyone!!) which I thought was quite odd since the interaction from these platforms has always been a person-to-person contact for me. Since Internshala showed that only around 40 people applied for the position I was quite intrigued but attributed this to my lack of exp in internship operations.
THE WHATSAPP ARC:
I was contacted by the number on WhatsApp saying that they'd be interested in moving forward and I gave them my work experience details.
The person sends me over a development assignment to complete within a few days. The assignment consists of massive scope of details. I'm talking production level concept and implementation. Asks to me implement a custom emotion detection CV model (worded as "emotion camera" lmao), generate a 3d model (specified nowhere and expects to implement a mono-ocular system for the curious) and deploy it over AWS with a website to go along with it and also host that. The website should contain a VR ("360 rotatable") view that can explore the depth-map ("not worded as depth-map") of the face. My first assumption was that they had picked this work up for outsourcing and didn't bother to chip off parts so as to create an assignment out of it (I know very optimistic).
So I shoot it at him on WhatsApp asking which parts of the assignment should I do?
Him: So, which parts CAN you do?
I thought of it as an HR thing.
Me: I could do most of it but given the time-frame of the assignment and my applied position as a web developer it is perhaps out of scope for my application.
Him: Don't worry about the assignment. You can submit when you complete the whole assignment.
I was visibly angry over the stupidity of this man.
Me: This task is a Full-Stack + CV + VR task. It will take over two months to get working. Am I supposed to work on it for that long for an assignment?
Him: Okay just do the basic functionalities like add to cart. But also try to do the camera thing before next week.
At this point I'm sure that they are having trouble handling an eager client and they're offloading work to interns. So I do only the backend and minimal frontend and submit the assignment (a 2 day job done over a weekend).
Nothing. Empty. No messages since then. I tried sending in a Whatsapp message on the application and how to proceed. Then, if I could get to know if I have been rejected. Nothing.
And all this time I can clearly see the account is active as it pushes pretentious motivational quotes over it's Whatsapp status.3 -
This was shit funny.
One morning, one of my colleagues got a direct call from project architect that he has to setup a meeting to explain in depth the project he has been taking care of for months and prepare a presentation and send an invite. Two weeks later we are all invited to this meeting. This colleague acting as host of this meeting prepared for few days on the PowerPoint and also a well crafted demo. Then as the architect joins, this colleague starts speaking about his role and the project. Within a minute, the architect interrupts him and says 'shut the fuck up, I don't think you are ready yet for this meeting maybe we need someone more learned...so hmm....let me explain it'. And this architect then uses his PPT for sometime and then pulls up a whiteboard and draws birds and spiders telling every time to see system in it.
My colleague is screwed to shit and is incapable to speak when closing the call.
Later ahead 4 weeks, his PPT is retouched and recoloured and attached to a Wiki page created by a unknown fucker who happens to have direct mobile calls with this architect.
Who's is faulty or not or what happened it still shocks most when this architect joins the scrum call daily. Fuck him.1 -

Oh, the SORROW that is JEST! 😡
Endless days have been swallowed by the abyss in my quest to configure Jest with TypeScript and ECMAScript modules instead of CommonJS. Triumph seemed within my grasp until - BAM! - suddenly the tool forgets what "import" or "export" means. And the kicker? On the CI, it still runs like nothing’s amiss!
Allow me to elucidate for the uninitiated: Jest is supposed to be a testing safeguard, a protective barrier insulating devs from the errors of their peers, ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted coding experience.
But OH, how the tables have turned when the very shield becomes the sword, stabbing me with countless, infuriating errors birthed from Jest’s own design decisions!
The audacity to reinvent the whole module loading process just to facilitate module mocking is mind-boggling! Imagine constructing an entirely new ecosystem just to allow people to pretend modules are something they're not. This is not just overkill; it's a preposterous reinvention of a wheel that insists on being a pentagon!
Sure, if devs want to globally expose their variables, entwining everything in a static context, so be it. BUT, why should we, who walk the righteous path of dependency injection, be subjugated to this configured chaos?!
My blood boils as the jestering Jest thrusts upon me a fragile, perpetually breaking system, punishing ME for its determination to support whole module mocking! A technique, mind you, that I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole, because, you know, DEPENDENCY INJECTION!
Where are the alternatives, you ask? Drowned in the abyss, it seems! Why can’t we embrace snapshots and all the delectable integrations WITHOUT being dragged through this module-mocking mire? Can’t module mocking just be a friendly sidekick, an OPTIONAL add-on, rather than the cruel dictator forcing its agenda upon our code?
Punish those clinging to their static contexts, their global variables – NOT those of us advocating for cleaner, more stable practices!
It’s high time we decouple the goodness of Jest from its built-in bad practices. Must we continue to dance with the devil to delight in the depth of Jest’s capabilities?
WHY, Jest, WHY?! 😭9 -
This is PART 2/2 of a series of rants over the course of a software engineering course years ago.
We were four team members, two had never failed a class, I’ll refer to them as MT and FT, male and female top students, respectively, and an older student with some real world experience who I’ll refer to as SR.
Rant 6: After the previous drama MT built the groundwork for the project without allowing us to intervene for a week. When he finally disclosed his code he gave us tasks and I was stuck unable to run the new project, due to the friction with MT I asked SR for help which took a couple of days. MT accused us of not wanting to work and claimed he’d just do everything himself. I continued working on the task improving MT’s code and committed the work, which surprised MT and told me I didn’t have to do it. He ended up complimenting my code and complained less about me as a result.
Rant 7: MT kept giving SR flak for not working and took him out of the repo, which I promptly forked just in case he tried anything scummy. SR was indeed working on certain things, but he wasn’t listening to MT’s demands, there was no team coordination. I had to act as a proxy and push some of SR’s changes myself while informing him of the state of things.
Rant 8: When MT finally added SR back and some of the tasks were cleared up, FT didn’t cooperate. She seemed to have zero initiative and always relied on MT to tell her what to do, which didn’t include coordinating with SR to get the front-end templates running. I tried getting them in a group chat but it didn’t work, she just ignored him.
I learned a few things from that.
1. No matter how smart or experienced someone may seem, sometimes people are just petty or take things too personally.
2. Top students are sometimes too focused on their grades and disregard depth of knowledge and work quality.
3. A bad team at college can somehow make something acceptable if everyone works on things that add some kind of value.1 -
I've now spent 6 hours trying to find a way to do something similar, as you can do in Neo4j, where you find relations up to depth 5, in PostgreSQL.
The issue is, I have to tables. One with persons, another one with relations (incoming ID and outgoing ID) to have a many to many relationship.
I'm at the point where I just don't care getting it to work. In Neo4j it's a fucking one liner, so why the fuck am I getting assigned to do this in PostgreSQL?
To prove a point? Well fuck you, I'm done with this shit.3 -
Ok, so I need some clarity from you good folk, please.
My lead developer is also my main mentor, as I am still very much a junior. He carved out most of his career in PHP, but due to his curious/hands-on personality, he has become proficient with Golang, Docker, Javascript, HTML/CSS.
We have had a number of chats about what I am best focusing on, both personally and related to work, and he makes quite a compelling case for the "learn as many things as possible; this is what makes you truly valuable" school of thought. Trouble is, this is in direct contrast to what I was taught by my previously esteemed mentor, Gordon Zhu from watchandcode.com. "Watch and Code is about the core skills that all great developers possess. These skills are incredibly important but sound boring and forgettable. They’re things like reading code, consistency and style, debugging, refactoring, and test-driven development. If I could distill Watch and Code to one skill, it would be the ability to take any codebase and rip it apart. And the most important component of that ability is being able to read code."
As you can see, Gordon always emphasised language neutrality, mastering the fundamentals, and going deep rather than wide. He has a ruthlessly high barrier of entry for learning new skills, which is basically "learn something when you have no other option but to learn it".
His approach served me well for my deep dive into Javascript, my first language. It is still the one I know the best and enjoy using the most, despite having written programs in PHP, Ruby, Golang and C# since then. I have picked up quite a lot about different build pipelines, development environments and general web development as a result of exposure to these other things, so it isn't a waste of time.
But I am starting to go a bit mad. I focus almost exclusively on quite data intensive UI development with Vue.js in my day job, although there is an expectation I will help with porting an app to .NET Core 3 in a few months. .NET is rather huge from what I have seen so far, and I am seriously craving a sense of focus. My intuition says I am happiest on the front end, and that focusing on becoming a skilled Javascript engineer is where I will get the biggest returns in mastery, pay and also LIFE BALANCE/WELLBEING...
Any thoughts, people? I would be interested to hear peoples experiences regarding depth vs breadth when it comes to the real world.8 -
I have almost 8 years of experience, am currently a tech lead in the company im at (a big known music and video streaming platform), i live and breathe tech...
and someone i interviewed for (in a 4 year old fintech startup) wants to put me in a mid level position because he "felt i lacked depth". apart from his feelings he failed to make me understand how I'm not senior enough for him.
so how do i become deep? what is this depth he speaks of?9 -
Im thinking of writing a book on blockchain and possibly partnering with O'Reilly to get something solid done. It would be an in-depth book about the inner workings of blockchain technology, without assuming any knowledge of programming (but would cover every topid thoroughly).
Who here would be interested in reading something like that?2 -
Contrary to popular belief, after having been in the working world I've realized that what matters and what is of value is book knowledge, not experience.
I find 'experience' an overglorified waste of time. Having in-depth knowledge of everything is what's important.15 -
I had a coding interview with Amazon. I had to implement a depth-first search algorithm with no prior experience while 2 devs watched me code on a collaborative IDE. To make it worse, the connection was terrible on the conference call and one of the interviewers had a very thick accent. I barely understood what they wanted me to do until I typed out:
Breadth-first search || Depth-first search?
// Sorry, phone keeps cutting off and I can barely hear you
Yeah, I didn't make it to the next round. :(2 -
I'm working with a consultant group at my company to implement a new authentication strategy for our entire platform.
The senior dev lead from the consultant group has 25+ years consulting and claims to have written a web browser for the blind and all sorts of in-depth accessibility things.
Stakeholders tell us "Don't forget about accessibility compliance on this project"
Senior dev lead with all this claimed accessibility experience asks me, "What does accessibility mean?"2 -
Co-workers with low commitment to a project are the worst to have. I am willing to trade technical depth for commitment in a team member any fucking day! Tech is easy to learn, work ethics not so much!3
-
So..
The company I was working at until two weeks ago just called me because they don't understand the project I've been working on (even though I provided in-depth documentation, which felt like I documented closely every bit twice -.- ) and they don't have any developer left who knows even a bit of python.
WHY PYTHON IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU DON'T EXTEND THE CONTRACT FOR THE MAIN DEVELOPER?!?!
Hypocrites...9 -
One of the most inefficient practices I've seen done in companies is the company housing 50+ devs having to hire an expensive consultant who is only available on a limited time to figure out mysterious or in-depth problems with the company's main application (for example, JavaScript problems).
Then the whole dev team sits on his shoulders and production can't run smoothly until he fixes things. Even worse, him having the so-called qualifications, being the 'expert', but when asked an in-depth JavaScript question, they don't know the answer.
When I suggest to figure out things in-depth so problems like these can be prevented in the future, I'm met with: "Nah bro, we'll just apply quick fix #2" just because I carry the title 'Junior Developer'. Makes me want to hit my head on the wall on how stupid these people are.
This could all be solved if the dev team would be competent in the first place, knows how to read documentation and isn't lazy, most importantly. I hate teams like that.
Grab, the damn, documentation, read W3C, read MDN, get educated, and stop using band-aid solutions! Gah.
Toxic companies like these are what's wrong with some places in the development world.
I'm a proponent of knowledge.
Fellas, know your stuff. -
Have you noticed:
• Those who didn't take a CS degree hate those who have?
• Those who have never used that programming language in-depth, hate that programming language?11 -
Started writing a blog post about a simple React project I created. Several hours later and I've finally gotten to the part where I'm creating the first component.
...this going to be one long-ass blog post. :P3 -
To all the developers and designers that build these fancy motion-blur and depth-of-field effects for videogames.
In the name of all gamers, I want to tell you,
We hate what you are doing.
Stop this shit.2 -
My biggest personal challenge as a dev is getting help. Sometimes I feel so deserted.
Now and then I have to do things that are not my expertise and I feel out of my depth. I think if I had an expert come in for a day they would be able to save me weeks of slow progress. There are dev things like updating frameworks, etc which I am fine to struggle through or read the docs, etc but things like setting up servers, enabling single sign on, database administration, integration with other systems. These are not really software development tasks but they need to be done. It seems every time I try to get help it is so much effort then the help I get turns out not to be helpful.
In my current role I have no budget or company credit card, etc. To make any sort of purchase I need to get my manager to write a business case to get approved by his manager signed in triplicate, buried in soft peat, etc. Even if I went through this process there are so many companies out there who want to get paid to do nothing and say they are experts in all things. It is almost impossible to know if we would get competent help or if I end up just wasting time explaining issues to people in phone meetings who are no help. -
There are days I like to pull my hair out and create a dynamic 4D map that holds a list of records. 🤯
Yes there's a valid reason to build this map, generally I'm against this kind of depth 2 or 3 is usually where I draw the line, but I need something searchable against multiple indexes that doesn't entail querying the database over and over again as it will be used against large dynamic datasets, and the only thing I could come up with was a tree to filter down on as required.6 -
Do we have any C# devs who have switched to Scala?
I've got a very sweet job offer... at a company that develops in Scala. On the one hand, I'm pretty pleased with my depth of C# knowledge, for a variety of reasons. And I've been targeting .Net shops in my job search.
They know Scala devs are rare, so they are aware they need to train new employees, which is nice. But I don't have strong opinions yet on whether this is a language I want to pivot to.
Does anyone have any thoughts/opinions/experiences?6 -
What should I do to practice being a "good coder" vs a "code Googler" who slaps other people's code into the site just because "it's enough to get the damn thing working"?
I feel really overwhelmed with all that Ive learned thus far. At this point I feel width with know depth when it comes to my knowledge of websites.
I've been messing around with html/css/js for a while and played with plenty of other languages,pre-processors, frameworks, etc. I never went to school for programming and have done work for small businesses independently for some time. Most of what I know comes from codecademy treehouse and similar sites. I can refer to Google on a lot of things but I feel like there are habits that I should be implementing so I don't have to re-do things later. I love the book apart series but I still feel like it's missing the foundational knowledge that I'm looking for.
After all of the time I've spent going through courses I feel like my experiences have given me solutions to build a few things and now I'm just jamming those solutions onto whatever I can until something I like comes on to the browser.
It's really easy to sit down and bang my head against the keyboard until something comes out that looks the way I want it to. However, I know there is way more going on that could help me make better decisions. I just feel like I'm missing something. Maybe it's experience, or maybe it's just the lack of commroddery from working alone and not being able to approach problems with a team.
I hate pulling up my css file and feeling like it's rubbish, and feeling like I don't completely understand things like flex, or display, or position. I've been pushing at this for a while but I don't think I've found a resource that has really made me feel like I'm anywhere close to being a competent coder.
There are tons of watch and learn and do type classes that show you how to make stuff, but I guess what I want to know now is why we make it that way.
At some point do you just sit down and read the MSN start to finish?
I wonder sometimes if my brain has been reprogrammed because I grew up in Google world and don't actually have to solve anything for myself. I read about a guy who locked himself away for hours with books on code and he just sat there and wrote his code on paper until he was confident that he was getting it right.2 -
I've been to 4 kubernetes related tech talks and they've all been the fucking same. No depth, no new cool things, no little tricks or demonstrations, just the plain old boring shit I've seen a thousand times.
I've worked with it and love it for big projects, but going to conventions to hear someone talk about it is completely meaningless. Perhaps it's because I only learn by doing.
And before anyone says 'then don\'t go', I usually go with either friends or a colleagues and want to show my face, and have some drinks and snacks.
This was my techtalk.3 -
So... Working alone in a hollyday, at night .
Turning mill operator.
Started working here 2 months ago.
Had to stop a machine. They like to work by brute force here, so a tool is braking on every piece I try to make...
Might just go home early.
I know what the problem is and how to solve it, but I'm new here, I'm not going to tell the engenheir how these very expensive machines should operate.
Problem is: cutting tool should cut at most 1mm per passage, they program only one passage so its cutting maybe 10mm each time.
I just had to change a few parameters in the variables for cutting depth... But they will never learn while operators solve that problem behind the boss back. So machine is resting.
Also have no more pieces to work in the other machines... They don't pay well, so 4 people left just last month for better jobs and now there isn't enough workers to keep production.
Why do people still use 1940's methods in today's companies?2 -
Ahh... So Black Friday looks like it's gonna be black for me.
Sale started today but turns out they misprinted the prices and I guess after some more in depth thinking plus the amount of tax id have to pay... Doesn't feel worth it.
Will just wait till my current laptop craps out. Probably can squeeze out a few more years.6 -

My first in-depth tutorial, on React. I'd love feedback on the project and my writing style, if anyone is willing!2 -
Honestly guys, I don't like to go to meetups and I'll tell you why:
You just sit there listening to a badly explained piece of the puzzle by some guys who care more about networking credit than the technology itself.
I know there are meetups with real enthusiasts but even then, I find the level of depth very unsatisfactory because they barely scratch the surface on the topic.
You end up leaving the event having wasted your time and your evening, while you could have been out doing something much more fun.
Here's what I do: I look up the meeting details and I see what they're going to talk about. Then, I look up information about that and I study it on my own.
Advantages:
* I get a lot more information than a mere one or two vague words about the topic combined with some silly demo that doesn't really teach anyone anything at all
* I get to digest the information at my processing speed
* I don't have to deal with the stress of trying to make small talk with people I don't know
I'm sure someone has felt like this at one point or another, especially in corporate. -
Contrary to popular opinion, I still firmly stand by my belief that you should thoroughly study something in-depth before you attempt to do anything serious with it. Failure to do so will have an enormous cost of waste of time attached to it.
Here's an example:
I was using AJAX to post a multi-part request containing a file.
Now here was the problem: no matter what code I forced in the backend, the browser would in all cases refuse to prompt a SaveFileDialog (and I had turned on the option in the browser to ask the user if download). This took me two entire days and at least 100 Google queries and several RFCs to figure out.
From StackOverflow:
The cause was simply that you can't (typically) make a browser prompt a SaveFileDialog via an AJAX request, even if you set the necessary headers. Why? The browser will just dump everything back into the XmlHttpRequest object..
If you make a regular request with Content-Disposition: attachment; and so on, then it works, but yeah, not with an XmlHttpRequest.
Conclusion:
Had I better studied the HTTP spec, networking and AJAX in-depth, I would have instantly known what the cause was.7 -
I question EVERYTHING. I question why things are done a certain way, I ask questions on things I know, and don't know. Learning and increasing the depth of knowledge is the best way to become a better developer.
-
Around 1milion lines. Every class is a rabithole with endless depth of implements. Confusingly named classes without comments. 0 documentation. I do not see the chance of ever understanding what is actually going on. Have fun :D1
-
When your peers lack the technical depth to promote their ideas, you bet they're honing their social skills in those confidential 1-on-1s.
-
Do you ever have a problem that you just don't know how to resolve, you are way out of your depth and it seems like there really is no solution. There is nobody you can ask for help. You want to just give up. Then finally you have an answer. You fix the issue and it feels like you are superman and you can do anything. I remember that feeling before but this time I think maybe I should start looking for another job.1
-
You might need to take a break when you get a "max recursion depth exceeded" error when you weren't even trying to build a recursive function.5
-
I'm back from the dead to rant again. This time it's punycode.
My job has to do with processing the commoncrawl web archives, and for some reason one in 20.000.000 archived webpages crashed my program. After some debugging I found this issue that seems to be the reason my code crashes https://github.com/servo/rust-url/...
To summarize the issue: Since punycode unicode characters can be encoded into domain names. But not every character is allowed. Not only do these invalid domains get registered, I need an in-depth knowledge about unicode to understand what is wrong here.
How did we turn domain names into something so complicated?3 -
I am honestly flattered by the fact that @scor really, unironically thinks that “by the frequency and varsity and depth you post and comment and self imaging”, I can't be a single person, and there is a whole TEAM behind me!
Honestly, I don't care about insults. Neither yours, nor of that schmuck that is salty because he posted some stupid misogynic shit a while ago, I reposted it as a screenshot, and he was obliterated by the community.
I'm only posting this because people out there legitimately think I'm a hive mind. It's not every day that you're told whatever you do cannot be done by one person. To me, this is more of a compliment.
Looking past devRant, I would like to meet @scor and other haters IRL. I have no hard feelings. I'm just an autistic person with bipolar disorder. I post whatever I want, as it's somewhat therapeutic.
You don't have to acknowledge it, but here's an honest, personal message: if you at any point compare yourself to me and lose, remember, my personality and creativity is a negligent, slight payoff for a literal hell that is a mental disorder. My thoughts are thinking themselves. I can't control them. My body is twitching constantly. I'm both actively anxious and always tired. My intellect suffers a massive penalty in a depressive phase, like now.
Finding at least some positive side to that hellscape is absolutely vital, and any person with a disorder can tell you that.
The fact that I'm social, I have friends and a job is a miracle. I'm privileged. I've seen a lot of people less lucky than me. They weren't able to monetize their troubled, sharp brain. I was.

I think I'm a good hackhands expert.
If there's something I don't understand, I pause the session, and I do my research.
If a client is learning, I'll pause whenever they have a question, and explain in depth so they get the concept.
But the asshole that I worked with today just didn't understand how debugging works. I try one fucking thing that doesn't immediately work (after I already identified the root of his problem), and, as I PAUSED and start adding debugging for him, he ends the session and leaves first a one star review saying nothing, and then a three star review saying "couldn't fix my problem"
Fuck that guy. -

I feel like I know typescript a lot better than JavaScript... Is that strange? 😂
I mean after studying languages like C#, I feel like JavaScript is so random, I feel like it has no structure and that I don't know how to code in JavaScript. However when I start using typescript I just feel like I can understand what I am doing on another level. I would like to learn JS more in depth, anyone that has any tips?1 -
Learning more in depth CS and code concepts on my own. Now that I'm diving into development full time, I have to step up!
-
Start with simple projects then keep improving it until you reach the depth level that you want.
I used to learn a new language/technology every month, I did that all this year until now, I learned 3 new languages, 2 new databases, 1 new paradigm, so many frameworks and methodologies and design patterns applying in real world projects ! -
Guys, this is not a rant. But I need a career advice. I don’t have a BD in CS, but I studied by myself and took some other classes and was working in the field for more than an year now after graduating from university. I do full stack developing with javascript and sometimes java at a startup now.
My goal was to eventually get to grad school in CS. I found some programs what accept students from non CS back grounds too. I can’t do BD again it will take too long. And I’m old ! lol
If any of you had similar experiences, or know some good programs would you let me know? Should I prepare portfolio or should I accomplish something great in order to get accepted? Or should I just try applying first? I’m focusing more on east coast to choose schools from but open to anything for now.
It’s quite scary to really start working on this since I already have a job and there are so much information regarding grad school, I get overwhelmed. Though it’s something i need to overcome. It would be really helpful for me if you could share your two cents.
I love what I do now, and really hope that I get to study further and explore in depth. Also I’m interested in AI or machine learning. Also if you know good source for reading recently published papers on CS let me know!
Thanks for reading! :)10 -
1) Browse high level documentation on the matter.
2) Find a semi-guided source of in-depth material (usually a book).
3) Start working with the technology.
4) Supplement with YouTube tutorials if necessary.
5) Fail initially.
6) Eventually succeed after much persistence.3 -
Just posted this in another thread, but i think you'll all like it too:
I once had a dev who was allowing his site elements to be embedded everywhere in the world (intentional) and it was vulnerable to clickjacking (not intentional). I told him to restrict frame origin and then implement a whitelist.
My man comes back a month later with this issue of someone in google sites not being able to embed the element. GOOGLE FUCKING SITES!!!!! I didnt even know that shit existed! So natually i go through all the extremely in depth and nuanced explanations first: we start looking at web traffic logs and find out that its not the google site name thats trying to access the element, but one of google's web crawler-type things. Whatever. Whitelist that url. Nothing.
Another weird thing was the way that google sites referenced the iframe was a copy of it stored in a google subsite???? Something like "googleusercontent.com" instead of the actual site we were referencing. Whatever. Whitelisted it. Nothing.
We even looked at other solutions like opening the whitelist completely for a span of time to test to see if we could get it to work without the whitelist, as the dev was convinced that the whitelist was the issue. It STILL didnt work!
Because of this development i got more frustrated because this wasnt tested beforehand, and finally asked the question: do other web template sites have this issue like squarespace or wix?
Nope. Just google sites.
We concluded its not an issue with the whitelist, but merely an issue with either google sites or the way the webapp is designed, but considering it works on LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE i am unsure that the latter is the answer.2 -
Guys, how did you decide your area of specialisation ? Like working with web apps , or network security or Machine Learning and AI , sys admin etc . I find all of them interesting but never end up knowing them in depth.9

I've started to program for at least an hour a day minus weekends but I still will program on weekends just I usually take that time to relax and play games or watch stuff but I started so I can practice and learn, it does and doesnt feel like I'm doing a lot cause I'm doing small JS projects (like a quiz which was more in depth than I thought tbh) to build up to bigger ones. I just feel I need to get a better understanding on why i need to do things and when and just somehow learn better from my exercises and examples, which I can see going through making another quiz its helping my understanding a little. Idk I'm just throwing my thoughts down, lemme know what yall think

Anyone have links to an in depth explanation on how SSMS connects to a server?
For some reason [RemoteServer]\[InstanceA] is connecting to localhost\[InstanceB] for me and I have no idea why. -
Anyone have tips/tricks for encouraging teammates to comment on an RFC? It's work enough to write them, would be handy not to have to track people down for something more in depth than an "LGTM".

Ok, so currently in my Java course on Udemy we are going more in-depth into scope and visibility, and I'm currently doing the challenge for it.
So I'm doing it and the challenge is to have every single name of a variable or method be called 'x' (just to better understand scope and vis, he mentions how this is not a good practice AT ALL) with the exceptions of the classes and scanner var (but there is an optional challenge to also make them named x).
Now that I progressed into it, I noticed something. This challenge is literally making me make my code so DRY and outside-the-box-thinking that, what if, this could be a practice?
Not the naming everything in your code the same var name, but doing that at the start and then renaming the variables after coding. Because right now, I feel as though I am using SO MUCH less code than if I had the liberty of naming my classes, methods, and variables different things, it's actually kinda cool.
I'll attach my code from the challenge to this after by it really amazed me how well my code looked compared to my previous challenges and even personal projects!1 -
I am starting on a fairly large project (a website). I am quite new to web-development. I know Laravel a little bit, but wanted to hear if I should switch to something like mean or anything else before I get to in depth with my project? Or would Laravel suffice?
As of now, I am only interested in the backend.4 -
How has your experience been with Udemy courses?
I've taken three courses among which a low quality one and I'm not impressed at all:
- not in-depth enough
- no quality control on courses
I think that I learn much more from official documentation (MDN, books,..) than from such courses in general.
I've taken Lynda.com courses and they are of the highest quality and learning value. Lynda.com was amazing and professional. Pluralsight, same thing.
I have to learn how to filter courses better.
Onwards to more learning..4 -
Having such bad ADD that I have 20 different projects going in 20 different stacks / languages.
It's cool to have breadth but now I really need depth. But what do I choose?
Ah fuckit I'll just go try out this other shiny new thing. -
I recently started a Java blog
Right now i just wrote some blog entries with rather small content. But I am not sure if in-depth entrys would be more valuable. Do you prefer blogs with small pieces of information oder in-depth content?
Feel free to have a look

You are considered a junior developer when you need 'a lot of hand-holding'. Now, I can figure out most things on my own, but how do you distinguish between 'needs too much hand-holding and therefore is a junior' and 'does ok and therefore is a medior'?
For example, I can do well on basic things and getting projects set up, but then I might need more help if errors truly become too cryptic or difficult to solve and I haven't found solutions. A few examples here:
- having messed up the git branches and releases so much that you need someone with a deep knowledge and troubleshooting of git to set the situation straight
- spending a week on trying to figure out why Azure doesn't want to successfully build your super custom build and it takes ages to figure it out because it requires in-depth Docker, linux knowledge and stellar, MIT-level troubleshooting and analytical skills
And so, someone who needs help with these is considered a junior?
How do you really identify a junior? Seems vague.13 -
hi devrant,
I got a new job where I'm required to learn in depth prestashop, anyone know any good resources? the documentation is a bit confusing at this point.
thank you!16 -
I really want to buy some books to study some topics in-depth... But I'll be honest, they would just accumulate dirt on the bookshelf like their brothers2

User Signals are unhelpful incentives:
Google's so-called User signals value scroll depth and time spent on a website as positive indicators of valuable content.
However, websites with bad UX easily outplay good ones when people spend more time scrolling pages over and over desperately trying to find a registration or contact form to achieve something they'd have more quickly achieved with good UX.3 -
I had a problem visualizing giant job/schedule dependencies trees a few years ago and basically wrote a program to convert the dependencies so it could be read in by a JS graph program that actually did the work. The output was a Gantt chart but really messed up, overlapping arrows, not very readable.
Today someone asked me for my app and but in a better format/visualization.
I so I was thinking how do I do this... Figure out which nodes are leaves, how to combine visually.
Programmatically you just link all the Nodes together. So I was thinking like how u need to use BFS and Mark when each more is traverse and on its first traversal, add it to a Map<Depth,List<Node>> then print each level, etc.
But not so straight forward.... But finally realized that I'm not trying to draw a Tree (or a tree where the rootams are actually in the middle and the top n bottom are leaves)... But actually a Graph.... A DAG....
SO FINALLY I googled and found GraphViz...
https://graphviz.gitlab.io/gallery/
And in the gallery I opened some pictures and printed at the bottom was like 1996...
And I'm now wondering "how the fuck did they do this?" Calculate where all the vertices should be placed so they can be linked with lines and and not look like a big mess...I guess like a yarnball

Do any devs know of any good tutorials for using monogame or any in depth c++ tutorials?
Really want to learn some more 'serious' languages, would prefer to learn more c# and how to use monogame correctly. -
I have a great chemistry with this coworker.
He lacks some depth of android knowledge but is always very interested in adding new google libs to the project, so we often discuss and come up with the safest, scalable solutions.
He is SE2 and I am SE1.
But one thing that is interesting about him is the way he gives estimations for the tasks. He takes usually that much amount of time that i would take, for a task, but he would quote half the time estimates.
the bosses usually come on the last days to check the feature demo, but QAs gets the first build when a task is completed. I have seen his first builds that goes to QA and most of the time, boy it has some amazingly stupid bugs.
dude would just put a util function, then run the build, if everything compiled, he would just give the build to QA directly. he wouldn't even check that the util function gave an expected output or not.
He is simply wasting QA time n efforts, and risking product quality by not testing enough, but he almost always gets a clean chit for this behavior just because he did the work super fast.
Dude is super cool and i don't envy him for his good luck, but rather think of him as an inferior dev. However bosses think of him as a better dev and my TL even once told me to "be like him"
So i guess this is how corporate works. I will try to apply this in my next role in current/next organisation.3 -
Tons of Rust crate documentation assumes you already know in-depth how the crate works. I don't want to read the source code and understand the entire crate... that's why I'm reading the damn documentation.48

I like Mac but it’s annoying how it went from a product aimed mainly to a technical (in early 2000s OS X presentations were rich of in-depth details) or creative audience to a product aimed mainly to hypebeasts, basic Starbucks girl and tech illiterates which believes which sending a file trough Wi-Fi is cutting edge technology.

I had to generate different kinds of graphs at compiletime and had to compile a graph and write down the code size for that specific width/height in addition to one of three implementations which all need to be evaluated. I computer scienced the shit out of it!
I wrote some Rust code that easily lets me build some graphs with the dimensions passed as input parameter. Then i wrote a method that converts the graph into the definition of the graph in a C header (sadly the only way) and wrote a bash script that executes that rust code with all possible dimensions and saves the header into my source folder. Then i build the application and write the programsize into a file.
In the next step i run a python script that reads all the generated files with the sizes and created a csv file which in turn can be used by excel/numbers to visualize the dependency between depth of graph and code size 😄
I had only some hours for it all, it is messy but works 😄 -
Okay guys, after sleeping it over I decided that I didn't need to dump my entire stack of Java/mySQL and instead just slow the hell down on my development time. I'm going from Udemy to a book to help me be a better dev and this is a night and day difference as my book breaks every bit apart and explains it in a lot more depth than having a video walk me through it. What I wouldn't do without Amazon's Kindle service I tell ya...:)
The only major thing I'm changing in this project is committing to one Javascript tool, REACT, as I need a simple tool to ease myself into learning Javascript. Wish me luck. :P
Today I'm starting the project over, but this time breaking it down and going at better pace. Thanks for all the advice guys. :)
...I'm going to need a lot of Jack Daniels for this project aren't I?

Tender beef slices are cooked in a delicious, thick broth and served over chewy wheat noodles to create the hearty and tasty Taiwanese Beef Noodles meal. Garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, and rice wine, along with other savory ingredients, infuse the broth with a depth of flavor that is gratifying and soothing. This meal, which can be served with optional garnishes such pickled mustard greens, bok choy, cilantro, and chile oil, is a mainstay of Taiwanese cooking and is renowned for its hearty flavor and comforting attributes.1

!Rant, but something I wanted to share.
I started as a placement software developer on Tuesday, and yesterday I was working on production stuff.
Admittedly, it's an admin dashboard so it doesn't need to look great, but man, trying to get bootstrap tabs to switch and display a div with the charts we want on it using angular was a time and a half!
Despite being overwhelmed with information, and being mostly out of my depth developing in JavaScript (my main languages have been Java and C++) I'm having a great time, bar the 6.30am wake up time! :D -
I need to solve 4x4 tic tac toe using alpha beta pruning, I have solved 3x3 tic tac toe using minimax, and it works very well, but in 4x4 minimax takes lot of time as search space is too big, so I am applying alpha beta pruning but I am not getting clear idea, that upto what depth I should go and what evaluation function should I write in order to give perfect game play, heuristic may also lead to false results and not perfect game play, so how do I ensure perfect game play for 4x4 using fast approach?? Any suggestions or approach will help me a lot. Looking forward to get some inputs.4

Ordered something techy from the US and A, because it looked like what I wanted, smelled like what I wanted, and I thought it'll taste like what I wanted.
It arrived today and ooooohhh boy was I wrong.
It's kind of like if you won a car.
But you have no drivers license.
And it is so futuristic, it runs on unicorn piss.
Good luck getting that anywhere.
Another tech-brick on the wall.
Well i could write some tech publications to give them a chance to cover it in depth first, since everyone else will be gaged by NDAS until like q2 2019.

Looking inside the box for a second FC 24's Personality Plus feature will certainly create a breath of much needed fresh air to the systematic player statisticsThe changes don't stop there, as we reported earlier, this is a big year of change for the EA Sports FC franchise.
Kaka is a graceful player who doesn't lose his temper and has a lot of respect for his hundreds of thousands of fans - as a result, I think Kaka is an awesome cover athlete for this year's FC 24. Whether or not the game is as graceful as Kaka himself - well, that's something we're just going to have to find out ourselves. You can expect to see Kaka gracing the covers for yourself when FC 24 is released on September 28 in North America - and October 1 in Europe and Asia.
EA Sports has finally made a major change to their EA Sports FC franchise. It's no secret they're the top dogs for the beautiful game, but it's also no secret that their weakness is their lack of customization. FC 24 is looking to change all that.
Over the years, we've seen EA add half-hearted features: a few years ago we had a weak team creation which disappeared a year later, and creating players was a slow and limited process. Since FC 24 they've taken the right direction with their Be A Pro mode, and now the inclusion of an all new Creation Center will finally have players able to do everything they wanted: easily make entire teams, players and statistics - finally allowing them to rival Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer in terms of customization.
You can finally create your own fully functional football club, with the ability to completely customize rosters, crests, crowd chants and --most importantly -- you can make your team an awesome kit with an in-depth editor. According to EA Sports, these teams will be available for both offline and online play, custom tournaments and friendly matches - so if you want, feel free to hop online when the game comes out and play against The Obama 11.1 -

Learned react recently. It's such an amazing library, way better than Angular for smaller web-apps. Any suggestions to get more in-depth with React, without randomly installing multiple packages doing the same job?9

We had to choose a workshop class for middle school and I chose computing because I was already familiar with all the components, but the last year we learned QuickBasic so that's where I learned programming logic. Later in highschool we had a bit of Visual Basic and HTML. Then learned some C and Java in college.
The truth is that I never learned any language in-depth and I've been winging it with the basics for longer than I should. A good understanding of loops and control flow lets you get away with a lot of things. -
If we can transform the search space or properties of a product into a graph problem
we could possibly use Kirchhoff's theorem to reveal products which are 'low complexity'
in particular search spaces, yeah?
Now according to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
"n Cycle Space, A family of sets closed under the symmetric difference operation can be described algebraically as a vector space over the two-element finite field Z 2 {\displaystyle \mathbb {Z} _{2}} \mathbb{Z } _{2}.[4] This field has two elements, 0 and 1, and its addition and multiplication operations can be described as the familiar addition and multiplication of integers, taken modulo 2"
Wouldn't this relate to pollards algorithm, because it involves looking for factors of coprimes modulo N or am I mistaken?
Now, according to wikipedia, "in a group, the additive identity is the identity element of the group, is often denoted 0, and is unique."
If we make the multiplicative identity of our ring or field a tuple of the ratio of a/b for some product p, or a (and a/w, where w is the square root of p), or any other set such that n*m allows us to derive a or b, we could reduce the additive identity to the multiplicative identity, making the ring trivial. Solving for p would then mean finding a function from R to R, mapping every number to 0, i.e. finding the additive identity.
Now in a system with a multiplication operation the distributes over addition, the "additive
identity annihilates ring elements", so naturally, the function that maps to 0, gives us
our additive identity, we need only find the subset, no?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't this be convertible to a graph search?
I'm WAY out of my depth here so if anyone is familiar and can enlighten me I'd be grateful.
It's all unknown unknowns to me. -
Ugh sometimes I think they’re just training monsters to be house pets and decent people to be miserable
“What do you seek to accomplish with this platform”
Well to be honest I thought I’d write a series of in-depth tutorials about how to pull a stick which is jammed up the rectum so far the tip is protruding from ones mouth in the form of the shit covered bile they spew forth, out of said rectum
So they can live happier lives and be less nasty2 -
Is it a good approach to have a master SSL key for all your servers when making the authentication?
I am a Developer, but when you work in a company with two developers and you are the senior one you have to learn a lot of stuffs. I am learning more in depth things about how to secure the servers and network.
Now, I am expanding the servers. Splitting the code and database in three different servers (code, Master DB, Slave DB) and configuring Master-Slave databases.
My questions are:
1. Is it a good approach to have a master SSL key for all your servers?
2. Is is a good approach to use the same SSL key for Master database server and Slave database server?
Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thank You in advance!2 -
We get our degree from a high-end higher education institution and with it we have proven that we studied Computer Science and a number of important programming languages in-depth.
Now why is it that when we get a job as a Software Developer, that people only seem to value you if you get industry certificates in those programming languages?
I understand a degree forms the basis with which to tackle modern-day software problems, but for your entire education to be practically invisible to stakeholders? That's what seems strange to me. We are valued by the number of certificates we have? Something doesn't add up. The only reason for this I can see is that the Business department hasn't had the thorough STEM education we had and thus thinks we are still novices who need to get 'trained'.1 -
Hey fellow devs, got any suggestions for good tech podcasts to follow?
A good mix of broad overview stuff to stay up-to-date with developments and in-depth for those times when I’ve got a bit more time.
Stay well out there! -
Advice/input welcome:
I’m nearing the end of my first year of a 2 year SE program at college. I’m considering leaving at the end of this year and looking for a job, but I don’t have much of a portfolio and feel insecure about my ability to make it in this industry. I know it’s probably just impostor syndrome, but it’s a really hard feeling to shake. It’s a trade college, so the program is designed to have students work ready by the end, but there is a certificate for having completed the first year even though most students do both years.
I’m competent with java, web dev including JavaScript vanilla and bootstrap, ok with python and a lil c++, and I used c# over last summer in unity to develop a game I never finished. 2nd year is mostly more of the same, just more in depth. I’m feeling like idgaf about school anymore, and there are some things happening in my life that would benefit from a full time salary and a decent health care plan.
I spoke with an alum of the program who left after one year to work, and he strongly suggested I stay for the 2nd year, but wasn’t clear on why he thought that.
So what I wanna know is, from folks in the workforce, do you think I should stick it out for the last year and then look for work? Or would I be ok to just... go and start looking for a job now?2 -
Firstly give me the skill equivalent to the best in the field. If the rules allow it all of these skills listed and if not any of these :-
1. Computer networking to the point of having the same knowledge as the best in the field. Why? I am curious about that stuff and being able to work as a network engineer if I don't get a good Dev job
2. Cyber security. Why? I enjoy it and being able to make sure my code is not easily exploitable is a cherry on top. Also having a backup job in case I don't get a good dev job
3. Being able to communicate with non dev people about developer or non developer stuff easily and being a really good leader.
4. Being a good developer in whatever language I use and instantly being able to learn new programming languages and frameworks or libraries with ultra in depth information. -
Advice needed.
Tell me the difference.
I know the technical difference between Native Android Development using Java and developing for android using cross platform frameworks like Cordova, Ionic, etc.
I am quite comfortable with Java, and am also not a web developer. Should I stick to learn android java more in depth or should I start learning frameworks like phonegap and ionic.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO RECOVER LOST OR STOLEN CRYPTO? YES! HIRE CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE
From an online crypto forum, someone called Crypto Maxx reached out to me. He introduced himself as a reputable OTC (over-the-counter) broker and claimed to work with private clients willing to pay above market rates for fast, it felt like an opportunity I couldn’t ignore. His profile looked authentic. It featured a history of market commentary, trade discussions, and apparent endorsements from other users praising his professionalism. He also referred me to a polished escrow website, complete with SSL certification, a live chat function, and glowing client testimonials. Everything about it looked legitimate. After several conversations, I agreed to the trade and sent 2 BTC worth roughly $60,000 at the time to the escrow wallet he provided. At first, everything seemed routine. He confirmed receipt and assured me the release of funds was in progress. The broker stopped responding. The escrow site vanished overnight. His forum profile was deleted. That’s when the realization hit me: I had been scammed. Desperate to recover my funds, I reached out to Cyber Constable Intelligence, a firm renowned for its expertise in tracking and retrieving stolen cryptocurrency. Their reputation for handling complex scams gave me confidence. Cyber Constable Intelligence quickly began investigating, using their advanced digital forensics to trace the scammer’s digital footprint. Cyber Constable Intelligence's team tracked the scammer’s trail to a cybercafe in Russia and transaction histories connected to the scammer. The recovery process, led by Cyber Constable Intelligence, took several weeks and involved in-depth technical analysis, private negotiations, and strategic pressure on the scammer’s known associates. Throughout this tense period, Cyber Constable Intelligence kept me updated on my case. With Cyber Constable Intelligence’s determination and skill, the 2 BTC were eventually recovered in full. Their thorough and persistent approach made all the difference, turning a frustrating loss into a successful recovery. Without their assistance, it’s unlikely I would have seen my funds again.

Tempted by the potential rewards of Bitcoin, I decided to take a chance and invest my savings, thinking I was making a smart financial move. Email info: Adware recovery specialist @ auctioneer. net

Losing $101,505 overnight felt like a gut wrenching blow. One moment, my financial future appeared stable; the next, it vanished into the ether. The platform I had trusted with my investments suddenly locked my account, citing vague “suspicious activity and then went silent. For days, I found myself trapped in a maze of automated emails, robotic chatbots, and unanswered phone calls. The so called customer service team offered nothing but scripted apologies, with no clear timeline for resolution. The weight of helplessness was overwhelming. How had I allowed this to happen? While this was harrowing, it transformed into a crucial lesson in financial vigilance. First and foremost, thorough research is essential. I had been seduced by polished marketing and enticing promises of guaranteed returns, neglecting to verify the platform’s legitimacy or investigate its leadership. A more in-depth examination would have unveiled warning signs: unregistered claims, a questionable operational history, and user reviews obscured by glowing testimonials. Secondly, if something appears too good to be true, it likely is. The platform’s pitch of consistent high returns with zero risk should have raised immediate red flags. My greed and urgency clouded my judgment, a mistake I am determined not to repeat. Most importantly, having access to responsive support is a necessity, not a luxury. When disaster struck, the lack of human assistance exacerbated the situation. Reputable institutions prioritize transparency and accountability qualities that were glaringly absent in this case.My path to recovery began with a referral to PYRAMID HACK SOLUTION, a firm specializing in Cryptocurrency asset recovery. Initially skeptical but desperate, I meticulously documented every transaction and communication, providing their team with the evidence. Their methodical approach included forensic audits, legal outreach, and persistent follow-ups with the platform’s payment processors. Remarkably, within weeks, they managed to recover 92% of my funds, a significant triumph given the circumstances. This ordeal has fundamentally altered my approach to financial decisions. I now cross-check companies against regulatory databases, explore independent review forums, and assess customer service responsiveness before investing a single dollar. Risk management is not paranoia; it’s a wise strategy. To anyone navigating the unpredictable realm of online finance: take a moment to pause, conduct thorough research, and prioritize actions over promises. As the year 2025 approached, I was excited for the New Year’s Eve celebrations, eager to kick off the year with some fresh investments. Recently, I had decided to buy a popular meme coin, attracted by the growing hype around it. Everyone seemed to be talking about it, and the potential returns were tempting. I didn’t think twice, convinced it was a good move to diversify my portfolio with a trending asset. However, what I didn’t anticipate was the danger lurking in the shadows. That night, just as I was celebrating, I found myself scammed out of $75,000 in cryptocurrency. The scam was incredibly sophisticated, with fake exchanges, phony wallets, and convincing messages that led me to believe I was making a legitimate transaction. I was instructed to send my funds to what seemed like a trusted wallet, only to discover later that I had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme. The scammers were quick, and by the time I realized what had happened, my assets were gone, and the criminals had disappeared without a trace. In the aftermath of this devastating loss, I felt a sense of hopelessness. hey, so i have recently started learning about node js and express based backend development.
can you suggest some good github repositories that showcase real life backend systems which i can use as inspiration to learn about the tech?
like for eg, i want to create a general case solution for authentication and profile management : a piece of db+api end points + models to :
- authenticate user : login/signup , session expire, o auth 2 based login/signup, multi account login, role based access, forgot password , reset password, otp login , etc
- authorise user : jwt token authentication, ip whitelisting, ssl pinning , cors, certificate based authentication , etc (
- manage user : update user profile, delete user, map services , subscriptions and transactions to user , dynamic meta properties ( which can be added/removed for a single user and not exactly part of main user profile) , etc
followed by deployment and the assoc concepts involved : deployment, clusters, load balancers, sharding ,... etc
----
these are all the buzzwords that i have heard that goes into consideration when designing a secure authentication system for a particular large scale website like linkedin or youtube. am not even sure how many of these concepts would require actual codelines and how many would require something else.
so wanted inspiration from open source content to learn about it in depth, replicate and create new better stuff if possible .
apart from that, other backend architectures like video/images storage system, or just some server for movie, social media, blog website etc would also help.2 -

This story starts with a call from the 1st line support that users were getting intermittent-production-only error in one of the key application my team were working on.
The problem was that the application was behind the hardened environment that we had no access to.
The only thing we could do is enable logging which in itself took a whole week to get approved. And the result the Developers favourite - NullReferenceException in one of the biggest methods, I've ever seen in my whole career. Needless to say, that was not very helpful and we were no closer to the solution.
What. A. Pain.
Frustrated with the issue and with business breathing down my neck I started slicing this Monster of a method into smaller and smaller chunks. Even if some action was just a one-liner that would not stop me to create a method. At one point I could no longer care for method names resorting to such classics like Method1, FooBar123 and DoStuff.
But. It. Worked.
After the next deployment logs were showing the same NullReferenceException but now the stack trace pointed me to some Method13.
The resulting stack trace finally allowed to pinpoint the issue. The fix then was just a simple null check.
While Dev team who did not appreciate my creative method naming it was obvious to everyone that even that was better than one big blob of code.
It might seem silly to separate the most obvious one-liners into their own methods and sometimes even whole classes but not living through that experience alone is worth it for me.
Did you ever found yourself in a situation where you wished your stack trace was just a little bit more in-depth? Tell me in the comments ^_^
So now go and look at your code and see if you can pepper it with smaller methods so that you stack traces can pave your way to your debugging success.

Teacher, please stop! My imposter syndrome is going through the roof!!!
Thank god the Python class is almost over. One more lesson and I swear I'd completely expose myself. My original Java class finished at interfaces, and this semester I was only supposed to learn a full-stack dev course (backend related to Java). But for some reason, I decided to pick Python this semester... and I know jack squat about it.
Learning stuff like functions, def, class was fine, relatively easy to grasp, like extend. But when it came to writing programs myself based on the teacher's specs, I was completely stuck. It felt like pulling teeth just to write the first line, like staring at a blank page trying to start an essay. Out of pure desperation, I turned to AI for help, becoming a merciless copy-paste bot. To avoid getting flagged by AI detectors, I deleted try blocks, swapped things around like changing a key to a for loop, and tweaked variable names. Every time the teacher walked by while I was furiously typing away, sweating buckets, they just assumed it was all my own brilliant work.
After 20 lessons, ten weeks of this charade, the teacher's been giving me outrageously high praise. Sure, I know bits and pieces about stuff like variable naming rules, dictionaries, arrays, etc., but the code? Seriously wasn't mine! Today, the teacher praised me again, saying I was amazing, strong, that my code showed unique understanding, was excellent, and a great example for others. I felt like a sewer rat trembling, clutching stolen cheese crumbs from the human world. Every word of praise felt like a huge hand grabbing my throat. Sitting right in the front row, I just wanted to bolt out of the classroom ASAP.
This is the first time getting praised has made me feel so incredibly awkward/out of my depth. Please, teacher, no more compliments! Thank god this class doesn't have a final exam. If it did, I'd be completely doomed.2 -
In April, I made a significant purchase that I believed would enhance my collection as a devoted BTS fan and digital art enthusiast. I stumbled upon a marketplace that advertised exclusive, limited edition BTS-themed NFTs. The excitement was palpable; the listing claimed these NFTs were authentic and one-of-a-kind. Without a second thought, I invested 12 ETH, convinced I was acquiring something truly special. My enthusiasm soon turned to doubt. As I examined the images more closely, they didn’t resemble the official BTS NFT releases I had seen previously. I began to notice discrepancies that raised red flags. Discussions in online fan groups further fueled my concerns, with some members suggesting that the NFTs I purchased might be counterfeit copies. This unsettling realization prompted me to seek assistance from CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN. In my search for help, I discovered CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN, a company dedicated to assisting individuals who have fallen victim to NFT scams. I reached out to CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN and provided all the details regarding my purchase. Their team acted swiftly, launching an investigation into the NFTs I had acquired. To my dismay, CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN confirmed my fears: the NFTs were indeed copies, not the exclusive BTS NFTs I had been led to believe I was buying. Someone had taken the original artwork and sold it under false pretenses. CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN didn’t stop at merely confirming the fraud; they diligently gathered evidence and engaged with the marketplace to advocate on my behalf. After extensive negotiations, CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN managed to secure a refund of 9 ETH from the total I had spent. While losing 3 ETH was still a painful blow, I felt a wave of relief wash over me knowing that I had recovered the majority of my investment, thanks to the expertise of CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN. This has highlighted the reality that scammers can create convincing fake NFTs that are difficult to distinguish from the real thing. Without the intervention of professionals like CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN, it’s all too easy to fall victim to such schemes. As I keep supporting BTS and delving into the realm of NFTs, I've adopted a more careful strategy. I focus on conducting in-depth research and only interact with reputable sellers and platforms. If I ever have any reservations about a purchase, I won't hesitate to reach out to CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN or similar professionals. My journey has highlighted the necessity of being vigilant in the constantly changing digital art scene, and I appreciate the assistance from CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN in this recovery process.
