My previous job I got by winning an Xbox Kinect hackathon. Not because the game I made was really good or anything. But because I was the only one who actually built something. (Apart from a guy who’s application would cheer louder as you raised your arms.) So that evening I left the hackathon with an Xbox one and a job.
My job was to build advert games, games whose primary goal is to advertise a company or event. This is the job where I learned I DO NOT like game development. So after about half a year I quit.
Because I still needed money I did some freelance work as a game developer (I developed 3 advert games for 3 startups).
I was still looking around for dev jobs but because I was a student I had no luck, they were all looking for full timers.
At some point I called this one (Dutch) company and spoke to a very odd French person on the phone. He invited me to come over for an interview. I had very little information about the job so I started researching the company. They are a small company specialized in complex content migrations. I wasn’t that into migrations but hell, I’m always up for something new.
Upon arrival I was greeted by the familiar French voice and saw a collection 6 diverse developers sharing a space. We did the usual interview dance and practices and that’s where I figured out this is a java job. They developed tools for the professional services team to perform these complex migrations I mentioned earlier. With me never having touched java before I was quite sure I wouldn’t get the job. But I took the test anyway.
About halfway through the test I was stopped and they started to ask me some conceptual questions, I did okay there but nothing special. That same day the architect took me to their CEO and told him I had:
- very little experience
- no migration experience
- was still a student so could only work 20 hours a week
- he saw some potential they could work with
Quite unexpectedly, they still hired my 20 year old ass.
Now the company has grown to a good 20+ developers with a nicely sized professional services team and we are launching our first out-of-the-box product in a couple of weeks.
So that’s how I got my job. If you read to this very end, my hat is off to you!8 -

After a year of planning and researching and waiting. I finally realised. Fuck it. Let’s fucking do it already. So over the next 2 months, I’m gonna get other parts and have a real fucking rig ready.

Me: Oh I see were using a non-standard architecture on this app. I like this bit but what is this doing? never seen it before.
Him: Ah we use that to abstract the navigation layer.
Me: oh ok, interesting idea, but that means we need an extra file per screen + 1 per module. We also can't use this inbuilt control, which I really like, and we've to write a tonne of code to avoid that.
Him: Yeah we wanted to take a new approach to fix X, this is what we came up with. Were not 100% happy with it. Do you have any ideas?
**
Queue really long, multi-day architecture discussion. Lots of interesting points, neither side being precious or childish in anyway. Was honestly fantastic.
**
Me: So after researching your last email a bit, I think I found a happy middle ground. If we turn X into a singleton, we can store the state its generating inside itself. We can go back to using the in-built navigation control and have the data being fetched like Y. If you want to keep your dependency injection stuff, we can copy the Angular services approach and inject the singletons instead of all of these things. That means we can delete the entire layer Z.
Even with the app only having 25% of the screens, we could delete like 30+ files, and still have the architecture, at a high level, identical and textbook MVVM.
Him: singleton? no I don't like those, best off keeping it the way it is.
... are you fucking kidding me? You've reinvented probably 3 wheels, doubled the code in the app and forced us to take ownership of something the system handles ... but a singleton is a bad idea? ... based off no concrete evidence or facts, but a personal opinion.
... your face is a bad idea15 -

I am gonna rage for a bit.
Before I start, know this: I diehard love development, computer science and everythjng surrounding it.
The area comes with a very nice and interesting history and cultural impact. In particular, here as it was in the U.S of A. I love it, I love researching till my eyes beg me to stop and my brain fries. I love reading about history and the silicon knights that madd shit happen through digital wizardry.
And you can only imagine how happy I was when I got my shiny lol B.S in Comp Sci, keep it in my office and errthang.
I
Fucking
Love
My
Field
But. I have noticed something recently. In 2018(obviously before that) this new generation has a knack for making things cringey.
What do I mean by that?
Well, shit like that. Is it necessary? Or what about images(multiple) showing stuff like "double tap for your favorite language!"
Why? Why must we be this way? Why do people find a way to shit all over nice things? Is this shit necessary?
I specially hate pictures of girls showing their legs and right next to them a laptop with some basic af css file --->#codergirl ....fuck off.
Or the trillions of code pictures that are only html or some js framework flavor of the week.
Its just retarded man.

Last year I got an Acer notebook from a guy that stated that "it isn't working". "Okay" I thought, let's boot it up.
> Screen turns on, no splash screen, no hard drive activity
> Well fuck
> Tries to enter BIOS, nothing
> Openes case to reset CMOS
> Nothing
> Okay I think I need to flash a new BIOS
> Acer support site
> "Download the exe to flash the BIOS"
> What
> Spend two hours researching
> Find out that you can flash via USB and by pressing a key combination
> Extract the BIOS binary from the exe file
> Flash it on the notebook
> Splash screen and working BIOS
> Yay!!!
> No bootable devices found
> Fuck
> Connects hdd with test bench
> Completely fucking dead
> WTF
> Order a new hard drive
> 3 days later
> Install hdd
> Install Windows
> Finally working
WTF did you do to this notebook to not only mechanically break your hdd but also fuck up the BIOS completely??!!13 -
Okay, it just happened to me.

Dammit, I can't even describe how much I hate when I'm researching to fix a problem, find a forum/question and the guy answering it makes a post saying "Forget about it, solved it" but doesn't say how.3
-
Actual rant time. And oh boy, is it pissy.
If you've read my posts, you've caught glimpses of this struggle. And it's come to quite a head.
First off, let it be known that WINDOWS Boot Manager ate GRUB, not the other way around. Windows was the instigator here. And when I reinstalled GRUB, Windows threw a tantrum and won't boot anymore. I went through every obvious fix, everything tech support would ever think of, before I called them. I just got this laptop this week, so it must be in warranty, right? Wrong. The reseller only accepts it unopened, and the manufacturer only covers hardware issues. I found this after screaming past a pretty idiotic 'customer representative' ("Thank you for answering basic questions. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for repeating obvious information I didn't catch the first three times you said it. Thank you for letting me follow my script." For real. Are you tech support, or emotional support? You sound like a middle school counselor.) to an xkcd-shibboleth type 'advanced support'. All of this only to be told, "No, you can't fix it yourself, because we won't give you the license key YOU already bought with the computer." And we already know there's no way Microsoft is going to swoop in and save the day. It's their product that's so faulty in the first place. (Debian is perfectly fine.)
So I found a hidden partition with a single file called 'Image' and I'm currently researching how to reverse-engineer WIM and SWM files to basically replicate Dell's manufacturing process because they won't take it back even to do a simple factory reset and send it right back.
What the fuck, Dell.
As for you, Microsoft, you're going to make it so difficult to use your shit product that I have to choose between an arduous, dangerous, and likely illegal process to reclaim what I ALREADY BOUGHT, or just _not use_ a license key? (Which, there's no penalty for that.) Why am I going so far out of my way to legitimize myself to you, when you're probably selling backdoors and private data of mine anyway? Why do I owe you anything?
Oh, right. Because I couldn't get Fallout 3 to run in Wine. Because the game industry follows money, not common sense. Because you marketed upon idiocy and cheapness and won a global share.
Fuck you. Fuck everything. Gah.
VS Code is pretty good, though.19 -
Not just developers but this pisses me right off.....
Guy gets upset... Slams pen on his pad... Has to go and have a half hour discussion about his 'attitude'
Girl gets upset... Starts crying... Everyone else has to get lectured about what made her cry.
Both emotional outbursts but apparently one is ok and one isn't.
*For the record no pens or pads were harmed while 'researching' this rant14 -
I remember my first software engineer internship, the boss was terrible. He was cheap and only hired interns we had 0 guidance. This mother fucker would say shit in meetings like "hey we should start providing DBAAS, similar to DynamoDB start researching it I want a prototype by Wednesday" Wtf this guy is nuts. The overall product was suppose to be a fucking virtual machine hosting platform to compete with AWS, Digital Ocean, RackSpace etc designed by BS computer science interns lol. This guy tells us in a meeting one day "You know what's the difference between those guys (the competitors) and us?" We all looked around lost. This pompous ass hole says "Me , that's the difference you guys have me " 😂 what a fucking joke , not to mention all he has is a shitty math degree from a bullshit no name college in India, no developing experience what so ever. Man o man I never met anyone that was so fucking stupid but thought they were so fucking smart6

I haven't met many people through programming but I've met many friends through devRant but certainly also through being a Linux (server) enthusiast.
At study I found some good Linux guys and now through devRant I've gotten some awesome linuxers and privacy/security like minded people who I definitely see as great friends!
Also I find it awesome that I can actually teach people stuffs that I love researching about/ doing myself!9 -

A student sent me his code to look for the cause of an error. I spent 2 hours researching if there are any breaking changes in the latest version of AngularJS. Everything looked fine. I could not spot any errors. I tried copying and pasting my own script and link tags, and it worked. I put back his tags, and again got an error.
I almost shot myself in the head when I saw type="text/javascritp" in the script tag he used. I didn't know how to react. It could happen to anybody but I wanted to punch him. Feeling better now.5 -

For some reason the office I work for is paying for a designer to become a front end developer and she gets to take the classes one work time. Any time I want to further my career or pay I have to pay out of pocket and it can't interfere with work. Additionally I have to deal with her asking me every other day why I use Sublime over something else.
Basically I use Sublime because I spent too much time researching new things to try and learn yet another editor. If you wanna use brackets, cool, if you wanna use atom, cool, if you wanna use notepad, cool. I don't give a flying fuck what editor you use, you're writing CSS, I'm writing PHP, if you can count to 4 spaces, and not look at my code, I'm not going to scream at you.
She comes in each day and sits at her desk watching video after video on beginner HTML and CSS asking me mundane questions breaking my concentration at least once an hour.
I know we all started somewhere but Google was my best friend and should be yours as well.7 -

Had a talk with my mentor and the CTO today.
They made very clear that they'd want to keep me employed after I finished my bachelor and briefly asked about my plans.
I am happy and this kind of gave me some more peace of mind concerning job security.
Thing is though, I don't know yet what I want to do in two years from now. There are some possibilities and of course I don't know how my private life will develop.
If I stay there, I could finish my bachelor and then do a master halftime, like I do now with my bachelor - or I could stop at my bachelor and start working full-time again.
I rather want to stay there - though I strongly dislike the 9 to 5 job model, the work would be in a field I'm interested in. My colleagues are a nice bunch of people and I respect them a lot, especially the team I work with.
On the other hand, I always thought about freelancing and was researching possibilities during the last year. My skills are not so easy to translate into a freelancing job, though, if I don't want to do at least 50% software development.
Or I could get a job somewhere else which would have the charms of starting from scratch. Many new experience, much new things, wow.
Maybe also a better salary though if I'd be doing the job for the money only, I'd probably have worked elsewhere.
...
I'm usually quite relaxed about my future plans but some of these things were on my mind for some time now, also, I'm not sure whether I can "define" my future just yet.
Also, I'm overthinking it, yes.
I will have another talk in about a month.
No pressure, right?7 -
I'm starting to realize, that if you just know the basics of researching, you can (most of the time) find better free resources, than paid ones, for learning about new things in this field.5

Since I were born in the year 2048 I were still young when it happen, we then had AIs to create our programs from very vague requirements and my father were researching how to resolve conflicting requirement when a mistake happen. The requirement on Asimov law were down prioritized!
The rest is history so to say, human race decimated in a day, I got sent back in time to hinder the development on AIs and so on, so if you had a bug in your AI it’s a good chance it’s because of me3 -

Have to write a 1,000-1,300 word paper on the top trends of my chosen industry. I am therefore researching crimes using computers and other technology. I'm loving the research.
However, I have no idea how to tone my research down so I don't end up (back) on a list for odd Internet searches, and I don't think I want to be on a international list.
Tips for researching the hell out of this topic without flagging Big Brother and ending up with suits at my door (again)?16 -
For those keeping track of what inwas doing here: https://devrant.com/rants/1641742/...
Inhave been playing around woth fractals and making trees (although it wasnt 3 dementional) i have been taking time to learn things there regardless and had an attempt at making a landscape using Perlin noise procedurally generated by the computer
I am planning on releasing the code as soon as i figure out making these trees geberate at certain points of the land and firstly, make it branch in a 3 dementional space
Update of the land
Although i dont have the most time to so this and had to learn java in the process to move away from the limitations i had in the browser. It is a fun experiance and good break away from my actual job.
Ill see how it goes while working on this

I am currently in a bit of a (well-deserved) lull at work, both of my projects are finishing up/ finished, so tomorrow should be pretty light, as the latter half of today was.
And I have really gotten interested in the HTTP protocol. It's so interesting learning how it all works under the hood.
So I think I'm going to be researching/ messing around with creating a cpp project that essentially implements cURL from the ground up, creating sockets, reading from them, parsing the HTTP requests... all that. I don't expect to actually get it done, but it should be an immense learning experience. I have a clear goal: implement this function:
std::string get(const std::string&);
Once I'm able to just GET as simple as that, I know I have achieved my goal!3 -
This is a followup to my earlier RealTek networking rant.
After reviewing and researching all of the wlan adapter suggestions on that rant, as well as a few more, I settled on an Alfa AWUS036ACH usb3 wireless-ac adapter. Every Alfa I've ever owned has been amazing, so I happily bought it.
It arrived today, and I excitedly threw my existing RealTek garbage across the room, hooked up my fancy new toy, and... nothing.
Fearing it was doa, I ran `lsusb` to see if it was even showing up... and it was! but identifying itself as a RealTek device...?
All of my research showed it uses the Atheros9k chipset. It's advertised and praised as using the "famous Atheros AR9271 chipset" and the Ath9k drivers. Except this particular unit appears to use the RTL8821AU chipset, therefore requiring RealTek drivers. askfja;sldf.
I unhappily fetched the garbage from the dirty laundry where it landed, installed it, and began my research anew.
I found, among all of the wonderful promises of Ath9k bliss, a thread on the Kali forums corroborating the RealTek driver nonsense, and it explained how to get the RTL8821 drivers working with it. which is pretty much the very last thing I want to do.
If you've read any of my networking rants, well, they've all been about how totally awful RealTek linux drivers are, and that's pretty much common knowledge anyway. So I'm like extremely pissed off.
ARGH WHY IS NETWORKING WITH LINUX ALWAYS SO FREAKING DIFFICULT? haslkfjasgdskg6 -
A coworker told me this a little while ago and I cringed.
"Coworker installs windows partition o n a Mac, not sure what utility he used but he's handled every IT issue, people in our company for years but googling and researching ways to do things.
Steve comes along to do a service on the Macs (apparently) and sees what my coworker did and says "get rid of that it's a security risk", coworker had a legitimate reason to use Windows, plugin for Excel only works in Windows, so Steve could have totally done checks to ensure security wasn't a risk, but he's a Mac elitist, what can you do :/, lucky coworker though gets to use a windows PC and never looked back xD."
Honestly scared of Steve doing that so called service seeing I have tons of things I need to use (source tree, Android studio, some tools to test push notifications) and just down right deleting them because of his reasons, that and the whole he does services after hours without much warning (last time it was a leave password on desk for the next "week" and Steve will come in and fix the Macs) I can't defend my argument of why I use something like Android studio (to develop the app for the company LOL) -
I'm working on a project that integrates your Android phone with your PC. Stuff like file transfer, sending SMS and notification sync. I just had an idea for an awesome feature. Started researching and found that the Android API exposes exactly what I need. Full of motivation I started coding until I realized that the permission I need cannot be granted to third-party apps. Happened the second time. Fml
-
You build a system to integrate into an API to save the client hours of data-entry per day and reducing the number of fields needed to be filled manually by 75% and querying for the rest of the data and filling in the blanks. It took weeks of building and researching and bug fixing and when you're finally done the client looks at you unimpressed.
The same client gets a small piece of js that gets users location(by ip address) and uses it to customize a hello message on the home page and they think 'yer a wizard, Harry!' and jump for joy over the "cool factor" of this simple hack. -

So, idiot me decided it would be a good idea to never get around to configuring my UPS to gracefully shutdown my server after a powercut lasting more than x duration...
Long story short, we had a powercut that lasted 4 minutes or so longer than the battery in the UPS could keep the server up for...
UPS died, server went pew, and after rebooting itself once the power came back on, my raid array wouldn’t mount anymore...
After Googling around, it seemed like running e2fsck would solve the problem.
Didn’t seem to do the trick... and tired me at 3am decided it would be a good idea to poke around.
Pretty sure I ran a command wrong, or two, because now I can’t even mount the fricken array in read only, and fsck complains with a shit ton errors...
Been researching for hours, and no dice...
Test Disk shows the ext4 partition, but fails to list any files...
I may have destroyed the tables or something... I’m a noob at this point.
I’m able to access files with the RStudio tool, however this doesn’t help with file names and directory structure 😭
Is it all over for my 5 years worth of photos and other bits and pieces that I don’t have any backups of ? 😂😭😭
If any of y’all are pros with data recovery and can help a fellow boi out, I’d be more than happy to pay for ya time !2 -
Today I wanted to buy a printer. I spend hours researching on inkjets, inktanks, laser, cost per print, print quality... and then I realise that I print like 10 sheets in a year.
Wtf am I doing? Guess I'm just going insane with all the work. Maybe I'll feel better when I get my printer.23 -
// Tired as fuck adventures, yay
I was once coding and researching for a school project, it was around 1AM (yeah, I'm a pussy that needs to sleep at 12AM, otherwise I'm useless all the day long) and a friend was with me, he was doing another stuff.
Suddenly, out of the blue, he asks me "Hey, how much is 12 multiplied by 430?", so I say "Let me check", press Win+R, type "notepad", enter, write operation and wait looking at the screen.
"why this does not work?" I thought for some seconds until I realized I fucking typed in notepad and not in the calculator.
Just laughed my ass off and went straight to sleep. Until today, my friend thinks I'm deranged.1 -
Oi mates!
Little #ad (Not annoying don't worry - it's a cool project)
Just wanted to let y'all know about the awesome project from the Stanford University named Folding@Home!
Basically you donate CPU/GPU power and they use it for researching cancer/alzheimer's/etc.
All you need to do is install some software on your server/computer.
Then the software downloads so called "Work Units" (no big bandwidth required - really small packets) and simulates/calculates some stuff. Afterwards the client send the results back to their server.
This way they are able to create a "supercomputer" that is spread all over the world.
You don't need to pay anything except maybe some increased electricity bills (but you change some settings to use only a little part of the CPU/GPU and therefore create less heat).
Of course the program only uses the CPU/GPU power that's not required by any other software on the computer. I can literally play games while the client is running. No performance decrease.
That's a short intro by me. I can suggest you to visit their website and maybe even start folding by yourself!
Also @cr78, @kescherRant and me are in a team together. If you want to join our team as well just use our Team ID:
235222
Teams?
Yup, there's this little stats site (https://stats.foldingathome.com) where all teams can compete against each other. Nothing big.
I hope I convinced atleast some of you!
Feel free to ask questions in the comments!
See ya.11 -

PM - Client wants to know if we can do this? Also, how long will it take?
[Spend 2 hours researching because you've never done this before]
Dev - Yes, it'll take 15 minutes.1 -
We are 2 people working as remote android devs for this startup in another country. 6 weeks ago a new person joined onsite to work directly in startup HQ. I'l refer to him as an newguy.
Last week we started new sprint (of 2 weeks) to work on a new feature.
Newguy was responsible for gathering all the specs and planning, so this is how our sprint is going so far:
Day 1:
We have 10+ tickets in jira (tickets have only titles) no one knows what to do and we don't even have specification. I started pushing everybody onsite to get their shit together. We NEED UX/UI specs, we NEED backend to be ready, or at least start working paralelly so that once wer'e done with frontend backend would be ready. I mean cmon guys this feature is already 70% done on iOS, why cant you send us the specification?
Day 2:
We had a meeting on Zoom and talked about missing specification and project manager promised to send us the specs. Meanwhile the idea of feature became clearer so I agreed with the newguy to start researching about best way to implement our solution.
Day 3:
We received the specifications. I provided my research for the feature to the newguy. Turns out the he knew about specification 4-5 days before.
Instead of sharing information with us, he decided to create his own library to do what we want to do and blatantly rejected my research input.
Now he showed his implementaton (which is shit by the way) and presents it as the only way to proceed forward. He offers for us to work paralelly with him on this (basically he wants to write library alone, and we are supposed to somehow implement and test it, but how the fuck we can implement if backend is not ready and library is just a bunch of empty interfaces at this point?)
I talked with one of the teamleads in the startup and told him that this is not the way things were being done here before and new guy is becoming a dictator.
Teamlead talked with new guy and found no issue. Basically newguy defended his sole decision by saying that he did research on his own, there are no libraries that do what we want and he knows better.
Teamlead tells me to STFU because new guy seems competent and he will be leading this feature. Basically from what I gathered teamlead doesn't give a single fuck and wants to delegate all project management to this new guy.
Day 5:
End of the week. New guy claims that his lib is done so we can start implementing properly. I tried implementing his lib but its fucked up and backend is still not ready.
Day 6:
Backend is still not ready, no one is doing anything just waiting for it to be ready.
Day 7 (Today):
Today(Backend is still not ready, no one is doing anything just waiting for it to be ready.
So what can I say? His plan was to probably prove his self worth and try to lead this feature by giving us information at last minute. At the point were we should start implementing instead of researching.
What happened? Motherfucker doesn't know shit about backend, has been notified about backend issues multiple times but his head was so deep up his ass with that new library of his that he delayed the rest of the team.
Result? 7 working days wasted. Out of 3 developers only 1 was actually working (and his fucked up code will have to be rewritten anyways). Only 50% of feature done. Motherfucker tells me that this is how we will work in the future, "paralelly". The fuck is this mate? If you would have worked on this feature alone you would have done it already now, but instead you wait until we remote devs will login and fetch you the test input and talk with backend guys for you? The fuck is wrong with you.
You fucking piece of shit, learn to plan and organize better if you want to lead the team. Now all that you are doing is wasting time, money and getting on everyboys nerves. Im tired of fucking spoon feeding you every day you needy scheming office politics playing piece of shit. Go back to your shithole country and let us work.
When I was responsible for sprint planning I figured out what to do before start of the sprint and remote devs were able to do week's work in 1-2 days and have rest of the week off. This is how it's supposed to be when you work with a remote team. Delegate them separate features, give them proper specs ahead and everyone's happy. Don't start working on frontend if you dont even fucking know when backend will be ready. It's fucking common sense.
Now I need to spoon feed this motherfucker who can't even get information while sitting on his ass onsite in HQ. Fucking hell.8 -
Since I started I been a LAMP stack guy not realizing or researching what’s in demand in my area. Now I really gotta switch to MEAN5

I have a confession to make.. I have sin.. after 8 years of coding in the dark I've joined the light..
How did this happen? Well whenever I would decide to change my dark theme to another dark theme in VSCode, normally I would arrive at the light themes in the list, and for some reason the reading felt more pleasing to my eyes, so I started researching as to whats the best theme for the eye, and why does the light theme feel "more right"?
So it turns out that there isn't any difference for the eye, but that maybe because of the white paper black letters the eye finds it easier to focus on the letters rather than visa versa.
And here I am coding in the light for a month now and it feels great I guess?
Keep in mind I was one of those that would see light theme users as mudbloods and muggles. But I can't deny that the light theme + blue filter makes my eyes more rested.8 -
It takes so much effort to put a quality video on YouTube.
1. Researching
2. Scripting
3. Recording ( screen record while doing the hands on of the topic, drawing concepts on whiteboard + voice over )
4. Editing

After the 4th time of being reminded to log all possible hours, including those for which I’m mostly researching and not producing code or deliverables, I’m finally just doing it. I hate billing for low impact activities. A) Because I’m slow at everything and B) If I were the client I’d be pissed that I got charged 2 hours for what amounted to 10 minutes of actual coding and launching the feature.2

I love python, but I hate dealing with python dependencies, especially on Windows.
I was tinkering and researching with neural networks, so I wanted to try out pybrain. I wrote my project, with pybrain installed via pip, and tried to build it.
Oh, what's that? Pybrain doesn't work with python 3? Well I'll download the version that's supposed to. Oh, that version has a deprecated numpy api? Let me just install those other resources. Oh, that requires a broken module that has no publicly available source?
Let's try python 2. Oh, now that's working, I just need to export environment variables for some "bls source". Some quick Google searching and the only solution that would work is building a bunch of cywgin modules by hand. That's fine, I have an ubuntu partition.
An hour later I'm compiling FORTRAN dependencies on Ubuntu.
Coding time: 1 hour
Dependency time: 3 hours6 -

What are the odds of a game studio's co-founder starring a R18 decensoring GitHub repo? Welp. Today one did. And I saw because I found his GitHub after Googling (I switched to Duck in September). Welp. This is gonna be embarrassing for the guy. Whoops.
Repo is DeepCreamPy btw if you're interested in "researching how it works".5 -
Sometimes life takes unexpected turns:
I studied mechanical engineering and did some "computer stuff" in my free time, you know, "programming" with Java, toyed around with HTML/CSS/PHP a few years ago, some local server stuff with a raspberry pi, nothing fancy.
Half a year ago i got hired as engineer first but they said they needed an "IT Guy" also.
What i did since then
*Researching, Testing and Planning the introduction of an ERP software
*Planning, coordinating and (partially) setting up a new server for the company (actually two cause redundancy (heavy lifting got done by our IT partner, its not like i suddenly know how to do the entire windows server administration)
*Writing 3 minor tools for some guys in the company in java
*Creating numereous excel vba scripts that make work a lot easier
*doing all the day to day business that comes up when absolutly noone know how to use a pc in the company
*consulting the boss about webshops and websites in general and finding a decent partner
*and some engineering
Did i mentioned that i studied mechanical engineering? I know nothing about all this, or rather, i know enough to know that i know not enough.
My current side project is creating a small intranet, so creating a new VM in Hyper V, setting up some OS (probably slim CentOS), getting a Webserver running and making it somewhat secure. Then i need to create some content, i am very close to just install a mediawiki and call it a day. If i write anything in PHP i fear that i make way to many erros or just reinvent the wheel, on the other hand, i couldnt find anything resembling what i need. I also had to create the front end side, i knew CSS around 2010, there is probably tons of stuff i dont know and i will make so many errors.
This is frustrating, everything i touch feels like i am venturing the beaten path but noone ever showed me the ropes so everything i do feels like childs play. I need an adult. Also the biggest Question remains: What i am?1 -
Me coding and researching to fix new things everyday and people come to me saying:
"You are working too much"
And I'm thinking: actually, its a never ending learning job, I dedicate so much because almost everyday I learn at least one thing.
But knowing that non-tech people have a hard time around it I just answer: yeah.3 -
So I started to write a small script that my boss asked me to do.
I thought I will be able to do the job simple in just one file.
after 5 days, mostly researching and writing like 10 important functions I gave up the idea of being easy and I configured it as a project.
Feels so smooth now.1 -
I started getting into .net core.
I am researching VB.NET as well as C# even though I already know C#.
And I am using a light theme.6 -

SO MAD. Hands are shaking after dealing with this awful API for too long. I just sent this to a contact at JP Morgan Chase.
-------------------
Hello [X],
1. I'm having absolutely no luck logging in to this account to check the Order Abstraction service settings. I was able to log in once earlier this morning, but ever since I've received this frustratingly vague "We are currently unable to complete your request" error message (attached). I even switched IP's via a VPN, and was able to get as far as entering the below Identification Code until I got the same message. Has this account been blocked? Password incorrect? What's the issue?
2. I've been researching the Order Abstraction API for hours as well, attempting to defuddle this gem of an API call response:
error=1&message=Authentication+failure....processing+stopped
NOWHERE in the documentation (last updated 14 months ago) is there any reference to this^^ error or any sort of standardized error-handling description whatsoever - unless you count the detailed error codes outlined for the Hosted Payment responses, which this Order Abstraction service completely ignores. Finally, the HTTP response status code from the Abstraction API is "200 OK", signaling that everything is fine and dandy, which is incorrect. The error message indicates there should be a 400-level status code response, such as 401 Unauthorized, 403 Forbidden or at least 400 Bad Request.
Frankly, I am extremely frustrated and tired of working with poorly documented, poorly designed and poorly maintained developer services which fail to follow basic methodology standardized decades ago. Error messages should be clear and descriptive, including HTTP status codes and a parseable response - preferably JSON or XML.
-----
This whole piece of garbage is junk. If you're big enough to own a bank, you're big enough to provide useful error messages to the developers kind enough to attempt to work with you.
2 -
Have you ever had an error or something and start researching for hours and end up with about +infinite tabs opened and suddenly get this kind of raging rampage of closing tabs and yelling to them like a psycho? Like "get the $@&! Out of my sight you $@&!ing useless post that didn't solve my problem!"
Should I go to therapy?4 -
So planned on going out drinking to wind down from programming for the week but couldn't find anyone to go out with... So instead I stayed at home researching x86_64 and ARM assembly while drinking hard cider on my own... Well... A night well spent?4

Blockchain
So I started researching on Hyperledger and it's associated tools today. Looks really promising. There is so much to read and understand.
Have you started it yet?1 -
In my life I have never had trouble researching a concept... Until now.. Never had so many fruitless endeavours, its getting frustrating.7

When I was young I'd play games and around age 11 received an Xbox for my bday. Hated the case, so I painted the case. Since I had it open looked into getting a replacement fan.Thats when everything changed. I discovered the modding scene and without having any computer background/literacy got to studying.
The program that caught my eye ran on Linux. *shrugs thinking how hard can it be? * Read about Linux and discover dual booting. To do that I needed to resize windows partition. Learn more about partitions and get to it. Finally prepped... Backup in case of the worst, resized windows partition, working Ubuntu bootable USB, and printed install tutorial. Check, check, and check. Install was good. Sort of.
While Ubuntu worked, the broadcam wireless chipset driver did not. Fast forward a week and I feel that i had mastered the terminal basics. And WiFi worked! Go download the aforementioned program and FTP into the Xbox and BOOM... It doesn't work. More days and hours spent researching. In the end it all chalked up to not setting a static IP address on Xbox.
After all was said and done I had a bitchin Xbox. I think the only thing I didn't put on it was some gold spinning rims.
Sad part about that Xbox is that I never used it after. Instead I just kept messing around with Linux and learning more about computers. Taught myself HTML/CSS. Learned more about shell scripting. Then Windows cmd basics. Tried programming languages but felt a little overwhelmed. Only messed with <10 lines of code to tweak existing programs.
Now I'm learning C# and loving it. Planning on C++ or Java next! -
Hi everyone. Thanks in advance. Although this might sound stupid, keep in mind that someone requested the following:
Someone on discord asked me to make an aim assist program for a game. I thought it might be a fun way to introduce myself to memory writing and binary trees. I accepted the request and started researching. I'm using C++ and I have some options if I need to switch programming languages. Honestly I don't know where to start, but I thought finding a color on the screen using ML or something then moving the mouse position might work. This is also one of my close friends so he wouldn't be too sad/mad if I failed the request.13 -
!Long Rant!!
Got inspired by Ewin Tang's paper on figuring out a classical computer algorithm for recommendation systems inspired by quantum computers and started to write up an email to a professor in some Quantum research I'm interested in doing. As a high school student, it's VERY daunting to start. Been researching the prof and I'm super excited but it's nerve racking! Like what if she doesn't even open her research projects to high school students and I'm wasting my time? In case, I am planning on asking if there is anyone else I should contact. I'm focused on doing this research with McMaster since it's nearby but I'm really doubting myself. People my age who do this stuff are phenomenal and I feel like I wouldn't live up to that. You guys are probably a lot more experienced in this so if you've got any advice or tips, let me know.

Part of my job involves researching a shitload of documentation and tutorials in order to have an established and well tested point of refference for the rest of the team. As a Django guy, I have always been happy with the plethora of tutorials and what not made available for this amazing framework. Until recently I had absolutely no clue that MDN had their own Django tutorial and I must say....I am impressed! I seldom recommend something over the already great tutorial made available by the Django page itself, but this one by MDN really is worth considerind for people starting into the framework. One can even see the love that they have for the framework just by reading the tutorials.
Kudos to MDN for creating such a great resource!4 -
when Verizon fios (now frontier) has dns routing issues and half your websites including slack won't load. so you spend the first 30 minutes of your day researching and finally end up having to manually change your dns servers to Google in your routers admin. fucking mondays man....2

My exact reaction when ,I was researching on legacy programming language and their copyrights for my intellectual property rights subject.
Found that
Python was released before Java did.
But the popularity Java claimed was faster than python
Python first release date 20 Feb 1991
Java first release date 23 Jan 1996
Could anyone explain y python gained is momentum later!?2 -

We are researching enhancing our current alerting system (we use Splunk) to be 'smarter' about who is emailed/texted/whatever when there are problems in our applications.
Currently, if there are over 50 errors logged within a 15 minute period, a email/phone/text blast to nearly 100 individuals ranging from developers, network admins, DBAs, and vice presidents.
Our plan is to group errors by team and let each team manage their own applications. Alert on 1 error, 5, 500...we don't care, let the team work out the particulars.
The trick was interfacing with Splunk's API (that's a long rant by itself)
In about a day or so I was able to use Splunk's WebHook feature to notify a WebAPI service I threw together to send myself an email with details about the underlying data (simulating the kind of alert we would send to the team)
I thought ...cool... it worked. Show it off to the team, most thought it was a good start, except one:
Dev: "The errors are not grouped by team."
Me: "No, I threw the webapi service together to demonstrate how we can extract the splunk bits to get access to the teams"
Dev: "Well...this won't work at all."
Me: "Um..what?"
Dev: "The specification c l e a r l y states the email will be team based. This email was only sent to you and has all the teams and their applications"
Me: "Um...uh...the service can, if we want to go using a service route. Grouping by team name is easy using a LINQ query. I just through this service together yesterday."
Dev: "I don't know. Sounds like I need to schedule a meeting to discuss what you are proposing. I don't think emailing all that to everyone is a good idea."
WTF! Did you not listen to what I said?!!!
Oh well..the dev's proposal is to use splunk's email notification and custom Exchange rules with callbacks into splunk that resend...oh good lord ...a fracking rube goldberg of a config nightmare ...
I suspect we'll go the service route once I finish the service before the meeting.1 -
Hackathon morning 2 of 3. Did not sleep. Also didn’t accomplish much. Researching counts as participation, right? *eyes crossing*3

I'm curious, how many of you ranters out there studied Math at an advanced level to become proficient at programming? Is there a particular field of Mathematics that would improve my programming skill?
Context: I come across a lot of Math I don't understand/never encountered when researching topics such as encryption, hashing, geospatial data handling and randomness. Was wondering if I missed out on some key learning that would make these topics a lot less mysterious. Also, I overheard someone coming up with a mathematical formula to base an algorithm on. I don't think I've ever come up with algos this way.6 -
Usually I come here to share rants/negativity but this time I wanna share an happy moment I had yesterday as a programmer.
In lots of instances I struggled to work on personal projects: I feel the desire to code cool stuff but I've often self-sabotaged myself by doing stuff like:
- self-enforcing "one man agile methodologies" with tasks, issue boards and lately time tracking
- forcing myself to do long study/research periods about the language/technologies I wanna use before writing the first line of code (and when I was able to actually end my research and get to code most of the stuff I researched was forgotten since cramming information is not effective on the long run)
- forcing myself to stick with all the "best practices" under the sun and to setup countless tools (linters, CI, unit testing...) before even getting a working POC
Usually all these stupid self imposed rules ended up in me procrastinating or pushing trough stuff struggling with headache after headache when coding actually used to feel a mostly fun pursuit to me.
Took lots of time to recognize this monster I created into my head but finally yesterday I did and I gave myself permission to:
- Start programming with just the very basics of the language (while reading a book on said language on the side at a relaxed pace, I can always come back later to improve my code as I learn more)
- Add stuff (unit testing, complex frameworks, CI/CD...) only when I need it
- Do a very basic planning (like a text files listing "must have" features and "nice to have features") and avoid issue boards and stuff, I'm working on a hobby project not on a company or a big OSS projects
It's been so long since the last time I had a programming session where I spent most time actually writing code and not researching and overthinking stuff and it felt great. -
DO NOT EXPORT GPG KEYS _TEMPORARILY_ AND ASSUME THAT THEY'LL BE IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION AFTER EXPORT!
I learnt this lesson the hard way.
I had to use a GPG key from my personal keyring on a different machine ( that I control ). This was a temporary one-time operation so I thought I might be a smart-ass and do the decryption on the fly.
So, the idiotic me directly piped the output : `gpg --export-secret-key | scp ...`. Very cool ( at the time ). Everything worked as expected. I was happy. I went to bed.
In the morning, I had to use the same key on the original machine for the normal purpose I'd use it for and guess what greeted me? - *No secret key*
*me exclaims* : What the actual f**k?!
More than half a day of researching on the internet and various trials-and-errors ( I didn't even do any work for my employer ), I finally gave up trying to retrieve / recover the lost secret key that was never written to a file.
Well, to be fair, it was imported into a temporary keyring on the second machine, but that was deleted immediately after use. Because I *thought* that the original secret key was still in my original keyring.
More idiotic was the fact that I'd been completely ignorant of the option called `--list-secret-keys` even after using GPG for many years now. My test to confirm whether the key was still in place was `--list-keys` which even now lists the user ID. Alas, now without a secret key to do anything meaningful really.
Here I am, with my face in my hands, shaking my head and almost crying.5 -

tl;dr I lost my path, learned to a lot about linux and found true love.
So because of the recent news about wpa2, I thought about learning to do some things network penetration with kali. My roommate and I took an old 8gb usb and turned it into a bootable usb with persistent storage. Maybe not the best choice, but atleast we know how to do that now.
Anyway, we started with a kali.iso from 2015, because we thought it would be faster than downloading it with a 150kpbs connection. Learned a lot from that mistake while waiting apt-get update/upgrade.
Next day I got access to some faster connection, downloaded a new release build and put the 2015 version out it's misery. Finally some signs of progress. But that was not enough. We wanted more. We (well atleast I) wanted to try i3, because one of my friends showed me to /r/unixporn (btw, pornhub is deprecated now). So after researching what i3 is, what a wm is AND what a dm is, we replaced gdm3 with lightdm and set i3 as standard wm. With the user guide on an other screen we started playing with i3. Apparently heaven is written with two characters only. Now I want to free myself from windows and have linux (Maybe arch) as my main system, but for now we continue to use thus kali usb to learn about how to set uo a nice desktop environment. Wait, why did we choose to install kali? 😂
I feel kinda sorry for that, but I want to experiment on there before until I feel confident. (Please hit me up with tips about i3)
Still gotta use Windows as a subsystem for gaming. 😥3 -
ARRAY LIKE OBJECTS
Long story short, i am fiddling a bit around with javascripts, a json object a php script created and encountered "array-like" objects. I tried to use .forEach and discovered it doesnt work on those.
Easy easy, there is always Array.from()..just..it doesnt work, well it does work for one subset called ['data'] which contains the actual rows i generate a table from, but for the ['meta'] part of the json object it just returns a length 0 object..me no understanderino
at least something cheered me up when researching, it was an article with the quote: "Finally, the spread operator. It’s a fantastic way to convert Array-like objects into honest-to-God arrays."
I like honest-to-God arrays..or in my case honest to Fortuna..doesnt solve my problem though2 -
I can't recall one single person I can call a mentor, however...
When I first started as a developer I had a senior to work with... I knew close to anything but I was always good at research and learning on my own... But we used an asp.net framework, it was new and there was little to no useful information, only basics... When I asked the senior (let's call him Joe) for help he gave me a quick answer:
Joe: Go to file xx, there's an example of what you need there...
Me: Well, been there and that's great but it doesn't help...
Everytime I was stucked during my first week it was always some sort of the same, so I insisted this time...
Me: so, Joe... I'm really stuck on this one, can you give it a look?
Joe: I know, I've been researching a way to do it for an hour now and can't get it either...
Me: wow! Thanks... But I thought you were an expert on this...
Joe: not really, never used it before. It's as new to me as it is to you! :)
So, that switched me from "this fucking weasel won't help me for shit" to "well, let's help each other"
We became good friends, always challenging each other and from that day on I stopped asking for help, and asking where can I help others...
I had great and greatly bad colleague and seniors. Each one thought me something either what to do or what not to do, how to act or not, how to tackle problems, how to teach...
Everyone I have worked with, worked for or trained is a mentor of mine. Even those I feel like I failed training thought me how to do better next time...
Thank you guys for being grate... Thank you assholes for teaching me how to send a guy go fuck himself! Good luck for those who get stucked with me -

The project that we spent one freaking year on, researching, developing our own hardware and software just got cancelled and I ain't getting paid shit...
https://youtu.be/Dv3eduzcZxc
This is a fucking nightmare! All this motherfucking work for nothing! I think I am going to cry... I mean we still have all the hardware and stuff but we can't do anything with it because is was build for one fucking task and noone would probably buy it because how specific the task that it's made for is. I mean I technically only own the software... anyone interested in buying an Android app that connects to a sensor (that counts stuff) via BLE, processes data from the sensor and uploads it to a database? It can also upload new firmware to the sensor, set basically any parameter and get all kinds of telemetry from it... can't really say what does this sensor count or anything about the hardware (I am not sure if I am allowed to brcause I don't own it - I only got to work on the firmware and the app)3 -
I told you guys that I would update you on my PiBM-5150 project. I figured out the hard way that my USB to DB-25 cable wouldn't cut it. Seems it is for printers and no matter how hard I tried it wouldn't work because of the path of the wires. After researching, it is apparent that the GPIO pins on the pi are configured for serial by default but it requires a little voltage change from TTY to RS-232. Rather than do like one of the videos I saw and solder junk to a bread board, I found a serial (rs-232) shield and 9pin output for the pi. Now, both computers are true rs-232 each. Instead of using a modem between them, I bought a null modem cable (crossover of Tx Rx signals) to interface the two machines directly. I'll update this evening to show it hopefully working.

Is it normal to work at a company that claims it has an R&D department (in which I work), but nobody actually does the 'R' part... like never?
I think I have potential in researching. What should I do?1 -
I got associated degree, it helped me to get my first job. From there I learned everything at work.
Associated degree and bachelor degree here are just titles, education in computer science over this country is not so good tbh. Far too few colleges are competent enough to give you a grasp of the current state of development world from the last 15 years.
So I'm not planning to get bachelor degree, it's expensive and has enough math to not like it(I had to see some math in my associated degree and haven't used in the last 9 years). I'm not in the machine learning, researching or that stuff field, so I'm not need of that. From what I can learn getting a bachelor degree, I think I can handle from my own to get the food on the table. Currently planning to start a startup -
Researching a new communication platform (Twilio, Vonage, etc), I started with Plivo. Created an account, they offer from free credits to try out the platform, so I set up a phone number and attempt to use their API, didn't quite work. I contact their support through their online portal (being very detailed about what I'm trying to do and the issue I'm having)
A day later they reply asking "Could you tell us how you are using Plivo and the issue you are having?"
That would be OK, but my question from the online portal was in the body of the email message. My first reply started with "You not reading the <bleep>ing message is my issue right now.", but I copied and pasted the same message. I even included a screenshot of the API I was having a problem with (so they could see what I see).
Next day I'm trying out a different area of their API and there is a banner "Incoming and Outgoing phone calls are disabled on this account. Contact Support blah blah blah"
I thought, OK, its a trial account, they probably want some additional validation before allowing anyone to make phone calls. I jump thru the hoops, next day I receive an email "Thanks for sharing the details with us. I have reached out to the Product Team to assist us with this and I'll share more details with you as soon as they revert."
Revert what? The block? Waited until next day, banner still there, so I replied again. Not another reply until the next day.
"Our internal team analyzed the account details and unfortunately, we would not be able to remove the restrictions from your account."
WTF!? Plivo, we are going to give you *money* and you can't answer my question! I'm not asking for free stuff, not asking for help finding the 'any key', your API is supposed to support XYZ feature and it's not working...OK. We're done.
I try to close the account (has too much of my personal info I don't want these clowns to have) and I get an error 'Unable to close the account'. WTF!

Sophomore here. For a long time this has been bugging me. I'm very skeptical about what I'm learning and what I plan to learn. Just doubting myself and feeling like a loser. So today i wanna ask, what was the road you took to be where you are now? I wanna know details
Did u exceed ur expectations and do u think if u knew what u know now, u cud've done a lot better and taken a diff route?
I'm asking this cuz i wanna set a baseline of skills to attain by the time i graduate. Been researching and the amount of things u can learn is very intimidating to me10 -
[Long post]
My last big project at school.
There was some pretty interesting projects, some shitty one, but there was one big project that interested almost everyone : a project in collaboration with Siemens. The project implied Machine Learning and Image Analysis. There were like 11 applies, with a total of 13-14 groups.
The project was randomly chosen for each group. I've learned that my project was the big one with Siemens. I remember how excited and hyped I was in a quarter of second.
So the whole project was tutored by one teacher that know us pretty well (since we already did a pretty cool project last year tutored by him) and by a former student at my school who's now at Siemens. And to be honest, it was one of the coolest project I've been into, despite the difficulty, since the whole subject (not gonna tell it just in case) was pretty new. We had some troubles, but we and our tutors always had discussion every week that helped us quite a lot.
There was some development planned at first, but the more we went into the project, the more we all saw the complexity of it and didn't quite hope to do a single line of code, but mostly research.
The project took around 3-4 months, we had a room that we can use with a GTX 1070 for training the neural network, and me and my friend knew how to work perfectly and efficiently.
At the end of the project, as expected we didn't do some coding, but we did a presentation of the project, with the big help of our tutor at Siemens that told us to redo from scratch our part in a more scientific way; the presentation was a real success, we got all the jury saying they actually wanted those kind of presentation and were really pleased. And we provided everything needed so a new fresh group with no knowledge of the topic could do some coding on it.
We got one of the highest notes of the promotion (not sure if the highest or not). Even tho it kinda disgusted me in researching, that actually was one of the best project I got to do that was that successful.1 -
Either a really big coincidence, or I'm officially creeped out.
I've been looking into buying a vps, so researching that a lot. Then today, I went to work, at a monitoring station, so we have to use remote desktops to access anything other than very specific sites.
Then I looked at an article about c#, and there was a Google ad, about a vps.. Keep in my mind, I'm at work, on a remote desktop, that gets cleared every time it's closed.
I know a vps isn't the most unpopular thing, but haven't seen an ad for it before.3 -
Actually I have two stories
The first one, that one project I talked about with a big company when I was at school. It wasn't that much coding since it was mostly researching, but it was a big project that seems really interesting, with Image Analysis and Machine Learning.
The projects at school this year got drawn randomly for each group, so when I've been announced that I've been chosen for the biggest project, thinking about every side of the project, I was hyped. And even a year after we finished it, I'm still happy and excited about it.
The second is something a little more funny :
So we got some projects to do during December for school including cryptography. Again, those were randomly drawn (but some can really fuck you up) and I got to do a Password Manager, like KeyPass. We were 4, and we thought we had the time to do it.
But we misread the date. At the end of Christmas break, I got a call of a friend saying that the project is due in two days.
Thing is, one of my three co-workers weren't contactable. And we got nothing.
So I kinda took the lead : I said to one to do the UI, another to do the cryptograph helper, and I'll do the linking and all the behaviour of it.
In two days, I literally spent all the time available on it.
Then first meeting with the teacher for saying what is wrong, where bugs are if they exist, ect. so we can fix the issues and deliver a clean code. They were like only 4 big problems. More is, I fixed them all in like two hours while thinking fixing only one. And we got something like the 2nd or the 3rd best mark of the prom. And everyone congratulated me for that. I got so excited I was able to do that in few time.
But never that again lmao -
So I'm looking at getting a drone to do some videography for commercial purposes. I've been researching all the FAA regulations, dos and don'ts, tips for flying, videography, etc. My finger is hovering over the "buy now" button on BestBuy.com.
But, there's an exam you have to take to certify to fly for commercial purposes that, I thought, was supposed to test you on the Part 107 regulations. I pull up a list of sample test questions from the FAA's own website and it has questions on it that, for all intents and purposes, apply only to MANned aircraft, not UNmanned aircraft. Crap like "What airport is located approximately 47 (degrees) 40 (minutes) N latitude and 101 (degrees) 26 (minutes) W longitude?"
And I'm sitting here like, "WTF! I don't live anywhere near there! I just want to take pictures of some friggin trees and houses in my metro area!"
"Welcome to the FAA website, where we're not happy until you're not happy."3 -
So.. playing around with jquerys load() function because I'm trying to implement some updating functionality to a specific div. After researching a bit, it didn't seem like it would be too difficult.. but I could not for the life of me figure out why my template was not displaying! I tried testing with just some basic html and it worked fine. Even took a few snippets from my template and again.. it worked. As soon as I copy/pasted my whole template, the page renders nothing. I was seriously getting frustrated so I started entering the template manually testing each line. It worked until I got to this special div container I made.. went and looked at the css properties for it and..
display: none;
*facepalm*
I forgot I had set it to none because I was using jquerys fadeIn() function xD seriously?? -
So today in school I decided on my career choice. So I've decided on becoming a data scientist because I can still use my programming and I very much do like looking at data and researching things as well as program obviously :) so if there are any data scientists or data miners out there do you have advice?5

[CSS]
I'd like to create a fixed aspect ratio box that remains centered in its parent such that two of its sides are always touching the parent. I know about the padding-top hack, the problem is that that won't make the box narrower if the parent isn't tall enough.
Is this even possible in CSS?
I like riddles and I don't expect a solution, but I'd like to know if it's even possible before I spend days researching.18 -
I just spent an hour researching about how to do this thing in a particular JavaScript framework when I remembered I can do it in CSS 🤣 I'm so embarrassed I really need to practice my vanilla
Worst of all I did find StackOverflow answers with the framework solution but it's so easy in CSS -

Going back and forth with Microsoft technical support right now over a SharePoint issue. Good Lord I want to reach across the wire and smack them in the face with a sea bass. Not enough to hurt, but get their attention and smell like fish for a while.
No genius, the warning on the PowerPivot Data Refresh page 'Warning: this page is not encrypted for secure communication ..' IS NOT the problem. The error messages I sent *three times* from the ULS logs are the symptoms you need to be researching. Stop guessing and trying to blame any random message you see on our configuration.1 -
Anyone experience with microservices?
I want to offload CPU intense workloads to another server while I use my main webserver for just simply serving files and I have a couple of questions... Like were to start researching if this idea is even viable
Thanks in advance!16 -
I'd teach the basic principles of researching technologies, choosing a technology stack, proof of concepts and reading and understanding documentation. If this is done correctly it's 50% of the project. Nowhere on my CS uni has anybody mentioned these things, and I see other students are failing because they don't understand how to start a project or read docs.

TL;DR; I need your advice regd. a new workhorse of a laptop and ARM/MS Surface10/Laptop6 for this purpose
So my hi-end dell XPS (9350) keeps annoying me with its screen flickering. And it's an 8 year old ultrabook with 16G of RAM that I'm using extensively for development, devops, researching and whatnot. 16GB RAM is also becoming...not enough for all of it.
So I'm passively looking for an upgrade. I like the 13" profile (ultrabook style) and battery life, so I'd like to stay away from gaming laptops.
There have been talks about ARM being the new thing. I always saw ARM as a consumer-grade CPU arch (browsing, movies, music, docs, etc.), but the internet says that the new MS Surface devices will have ARM/Qualcomm built in and can compete with MB Pro in terms of performance (ref.: https://windowscentral.com/hardware...) and they are allegedly released this spring.
I'm not much of a hardware person, I prefer staying on the logical level of things, so I want to ask you, people smarter than me, what do you think? Is it a feasible upgrade for an XPS13 (i7 Skylake/16G RAM/4k touch)? I'll be running code and image builds A LOT, using JetBrains IDEs and doing similar resource-intensive tasks. I don't care at all about GPUs - I don't use them (integrated graphics has always been sufficient).
What else should I consider?
Any alternatives?
P.S. while I can't stand Windows, I actually like MS's hardware. They are good at making it.14 -
Stackoverflow, gorm.io and reddit all went down while we were researching documentation. Thanks Cloudfare1

Just need to vent out a bit. There's already been a few times at work where the senior developer asks me why I take so long to do something, and I'm unable to fully explain why.
Now, I could think of several reasons. Maybe it's my lack of experience; I just start researching on Google for solutions, start putting things together, and then I guess things start to get too complicated for me to be able to explain clearly. Maybe I end up "over-engineering" to solve problems that could be solved in a simpler way.
And this leads to my second reason, and that is there's no code review going on. I've wanted to just tell him, "If you'd just take a long look at my code, you'd understand why it's taking me so long! So you can tell me if I'm doing it right or wrong, or if I'm making it too complicated!" But, of course, being the junior developer, I also think that when he's explaining how to do something, I'm just not understanding it right.
I could ask for clarifications, and believe I've done that on some things, but my third reason is that he's just not good at explaining things, or that there's some miscommunication happening. English isn't his first language. His English is ok, but I know there's a lot of room for improvement. I also notice that our other co-workers are also having a bit of a hard time but it seems they already developed some sort of adaptation to communicate with him.
So yeah, there's my rant, and I'd love to know everyone's input on this. -
Mom: What are you doing right now?
Me: Researching on cocaine. //Assignment was about cocaine in Coca-Cola
Mom: Is cocaine a CS course or something?// So naive
Me: Yes it's a mind boggling course, some people fail to survive the course. It's practiced world wide.
Mom: ooh good good. Carry on
And my sarcasm went unnoticed until later when I told her what cocaine is.😂 -
while researching age of consent by country to respond to a comment under another rant, I decided that going to wikipedia and sorting countries by age of consent ascending is probably the quickest way to get on a list.

I remember when i was first deciding whether to do web programming or desktop applications, i chose java/C/C++ mainly because I already had experience. Back then when i was researching web stuff it was HTML + CSS + javascript and something called jquery, ok cool seems like I can pick it up in the future. Fastforward to 2018 and i was looking to get into it, BUT holy fucking shit what a confusing minefield and cesspool of javascript horror and frameworks and bloat, wtf happened??

TL;DR I want to add a vcodec to FFmpeg but don't understand the how or haven't found the right resources yet.
I just learned the very basics recently and thought it is great for some automation.
For now, I want to use it to compress my anime collection. I found a modded version of HEVC (x265) for anime, which I want to include as vcodec. Unfortunately, even after researching it a bit, I don't understand how to do so. Does somebody here know how to do it?

My school did that and it helped firing the worse teachers I got :
A simple poll on every course taught during the three year.
[Gonna be surely a long rant since some testimony below]
The previous prom before us got a teacher that went nuts, like the first and only lesson classes was like "Okay so if you don't understand my lessons, you get out. I don't want any question." I'm not kidding.
So since he wanted to teach researching stuff, they had only 4 hours of lessons, and the other classes were to research.
At the exam, he went nuts again and were saying people did shit, saying that they are shit, etc.
Worse is, if you happen to have to do a catch up examen with him, you had to implement in 4 hours a program that took at least 20 hours of research.
But at the end of the year, students got asked with a poll how each classes of the year went. All the prom gave the feedback that was deserved.
The next year, wiht my prom, the teacher was extremely kind with us, but we all knew that was because his job was compromised. (And if I'm not wrong, he doesn't do that course anymore for engineers, fortunatly.) -
Tried to work in a corporate setting. Failed. After so many fights, product manager was constantly rejecting my work until I had no choice but to throw in the towel. Spent the next few years slaving away as an open source dev. Not begging for donations. Just decorum when I eventually launch. Instead, I get repudiated by the community, get my account banned at the location where I could have accessed the largest pool of relevant audience. No influencer or dev rel/advocate will respond to my supplication or say beyond a compliment
Barely pick up the pieces, to reimmerse into employed labour. Dozens of applications sent out. My inbox is silent as a graveyard. I start putting more effort into tailored cover letters for each opening, across multiple job boards. One finally rejects me
Even tried changing stack by applying for internship roles in nodejs. A dead end
So, I can't read cuz I was researching for my magnum opus. Now it has gone belly up, that's no more worth it. I also cannot work because my work is complete. It's just sitting on github like a mummy. No interactions, no stars or issues.
Posted on show HN. Not even a single upvote. The funny part is that even when I tried to lament my woes on devrant, their site has been down for hours

What to do with this enormous amount of empty time? I neither go out nor watch movies
Even though I'm not terminally ill or gnashing my teeth in physical agony, This is a rare moment when I wish not to have been born. There is no joy in life that makes unpalatable suffering worth it. Why does everything I do have to be contingent on the whims and choices of others? And I have to keep living like that, otherwise I'll return to my village to become a subsistent farmer, cultivating produce to eke out a living. Or seek unskilled labour, earning peanuts for waiting tables. It's a pathetic state of affairs.
All of this sucks tbvh

After past few weeks of procrastination, finally began finishing my mobile app for my finals.
Not gonna lie, I've spent 2 weeks researching Flutter, and it seems it has at least 90% of stuff I need (I like dart, and I do not like java).
Now after I wrote a tiny bit of code, I noticed there's still stuff I do not understand, thus more research is needed. All of that for ~20 lines of code, then more research, then 2 lines of code, research, start everything over because I fucked up, again, and agian, again.......
Now that I've gotten that out, time to cook some appealing UI.4 -
I've started to get more into the TOR idea over the last couple of weeks.
I know I'm way to "non protective" of my privacy but changing would mean I'd have to break many habits and stop using things I'm used to.
A couple years back (I guess it was in like 8th grade or so) I had a presentation in German (my first language) for an extra mark. It was about tor. In the process of researching all of it I learned quite a lot about it. All of this knowledge has stuck to me the whole time, unused.
Fast forward to today, I've finally decided to use the couple of bitcoins I have (like 15€ or so) from my home mining experiment to rent a vps for a tor relay. First, I was lucky enough to find a service provider that accepts bitcoin for a 3€. They advertised "Fair use Traffic", later found out, after committing for three months since I was like "yeah... will be fine", in the customer panel there is a graph that shows me that I have used x% of 1.5 TB... I guess the customer support will get an email from me asking what "Fair use" exactly means... But that's fine... Oh... And ipv6 wasn't a thing to be found...
To wrap it up... I've now got a 2 weeks old little tor relay <3
(I didn't wanted to put it on my main vps where I have 200mbit guaranteed at unlimited for 5€ a month since that's where I have my mail server running and a hidden service for my next cloud)1 -

Has anyone here ever developed in Flutter/Dart for mobile development? I'm researching it for use in freelance developing mobile applications and it's looking pretty intuitive so far.

Just came across this on a forum while researching something:
"
Hello, sorry that I didn't check the TOS myself. I just had this thought and figured it'd be easier to parse for someone with the mental model already stored. I'm sorry if this is lazy, but promise I'll pay it forward.
"
As a dev, who frequently has to build FAQ's, Support forums, make sure T&C's get displayed again when changed etc etc. The above offends me to my very core.
So much so, I have been unable to continue researching, and now fixated on finding some way to make him regret his actions. -
I hate meteor. I hate that I have to have everything I do revolve around meteor and it's packages. I hate that I cant implement HMR without support from meteor or tearing my hair out for hours on end. I hate the special implementation of unit tests that have to accommodate for the fact that meteor sucks so much. I hate the encapsulated bubble of "meteor" packages that install themselves outside of my development directory. I hate that I can't use most of the code I find while researching problems because it doesn't work inside of the meteor bubble.
I did not start this project. I did not select meteor as a starting point because I didn't want to implement my own full stack solution, of which there are many that are far better in almost every way, and watch everyone else that touched my code suffer from day one.
If it is the last thing I do, I WILL purge meteor and all of it's nonsense from every line of code in this application even if that means rewriting every line of code in this application.
I will have no mercy. There will be screams of agony, gnashing of teeth and blood will flow down the streets like the rivers of hate that flow in my heart for meteor and all things it stands for.
I will have my vengeance, and it will be terrible.1 -
okay so I'm working on a personal project
a medical and healthcare system
thinking maybe I can kick start a start-up based on this thing...
so been 3 days now trying to find a platform to deploy this thing for free of course just for presentation and demonstration.... and its been a pain
Finally settled for pythonanywhere.com managed to deploy but the deployment can easily drive you crazy if you dont know what you are doing which i had no idea what i was doing (lol) but its an easy think if your project is up on github found that out when i was researching how to deploy
was excited coz pythonanywhere offers a free MySQL server if your application needs a db on the backend
set that up and guess what what...... it doest even connect (lol)
was getting frustrated now and jumped on the search engine and searched for free mysql online db hosts and found this great platform
https://www.freesqldatabase.com/
managed to grate an account, created a db and integrated with my application
then used this online phpmyadmin to check if the application was able to create the db structure on the remote server https://www.phpmyadmin.co/
and the structure was there :)
thot i should share maybe some1 might be wondering how to host their db backed application for free6 -
Is there an acceptable way to deal with API secrets in an Android app that can cure the anxiety that is slowly taking over me during the past few hours that I am researching about it? Thnx.

Meetings are by definition not productive. I don't mean that sarcastically or cynically; if I'm not at my computer actively coding, debugging, or researching then I am officially off task.
Product management and financial types can have all the meetings they want, and try to involve me as little as possible.2 -
Anyone here implemented an oauth2 server in python?
I've been researching it for a fair bit, and it just seems like a giant swamp that I'd rather stay away from (ex: https://hueniverse.com/oauth-2-0-an...)
It also feels needlessly work intensive and (at least on the server side), underdocumented.
I'll probably be making my own custom solution.
Thoughts? -
The new project was started.
Planning, analysis, design.... all right.
Now contacting all the companies for partner programs, finding payment gateway that will agree to work with our country.
For fucks sake. third week goes, and still no code writing. Just researching, contacting, researching. Urgh.
I want to code already! I am just
a backend/DevOps person! When it would be coding time?!3 -
So I have this "idea", you know how normally most sites have the usual backend functionality, like profile, profile edit, CRUD of some thing... Well I was wondering if there is not a way to make it "granular" kind of like models that can be reused by the backend with a noSQL approach... That if selected for a site it will implement it without too much hassle... I'm not an expert here so pardon any incorrect terms... Not sure if I'm being clear insl my question... Any suggestions welcome, I don't mind researching any suggestions or guidance from someone who has accomplished this.5

Today, I decided to learn build a c++ project using cmake. Since I've never done a big project in C++ I have no experience with these stuff.
Couple of hours for researching and trying to understand how that thing works, how to specify things, this and that. Wrote a small program for testing.
Everything was fine. Makefile was generated and program was worked.
Then.... Somehow, sublime text started to give me error messages like, 'the header file you included is not found.' I hit the makefile again, the built was successfull... I know that, need to add -I to compiler flag so that it can find the files. But in sublime text constantly refuses my 'possible' solutions.
Even ycm in vim does this. They expected me to write includes like '../thispkcg/include/header.h'
Where did i go wrong ..............
Btw it works like a charm in cLion I don't know why..2 -
I start projects by researching the latest technologies and architectures and learning them, and usually decide to start over with something even newer pretty soon after. No wonder I never finish anything 😋

Question regarding android. I am having a problem with retrofit (I am using moshi converter factory) and hope that you can help.
Basically I have a screen with 3 checkboxes. User is able to select any of these checkboxes, and also user is allowed to select none of them.
When user doesn't select any checkboxes and click complete button, I send a PATCH request to backend with a model which contains 3 null values.
Problem here is that PATCH request which is being sent doesn't include any properties which have been nulled.
I spent some time researching why retrofit/moshi doesn't serialize nulled properties and I found a fix.
So I have this line
.addConverterFactory(MoshiConverterFactory.create(moshi))
Which I replaced with
.addConverterFactory(MoshiConverterFactory.create(moshi).withNullSerialization())
Now nulls are serialized and I am able to send a PATCH request model with nulled values. However now I'm facing another problem. Across my app I'm using only one retrofit client and I don't want to serialize nulls for all requests. Also I don't want to create another retrofit client.
How can I fix this problem? As far as I've researched it seems that I need to add an adapter with toJson() and fromJson() methods and then somehow enable nullSerialization only for that adapter. However I don't completely understand that solution and not even sure how to handle it.1 -
I wanted to design an operating system when I was younger after giving up on the idea of being a video game designer. While researching that I learned I need to know how to program. I tried too learn solo with websites like Codecademy. I completed several tracks on the site. After getting the basics down, I took two Java programming classes. After that opportunities to write code for free kept popping up and I kept saying "yes". Fast forward a few years and I'm working as a programmer. I'm by no means good at this but I'm learning and I love my job.
I also kept trying to solve coding challenges on websites like codewars over the years. -
can anyone educate me more about computer networking as a career?
Routers , protocols , network towers, 4g/5g , internet, firewalls, wired/wireless etc , these must be part of some kind of decent job i guess? (I mean there are those guys who just know how to install these in people's systems and then there are guys who are researching and learning about these systems).
- What is the job opportunity? how and when can we start a career there?
- How difficult it is to reach telecom giants like cisco, at&t , airtel, google fiber etc ?
- How interesting is the work there?
- what programming knowledge should we know or we will be learning about?
- How stable is the career there?4 -
In my case, the only way to stay productive is to task switch often. Suffering of adhd, I get bored of researching / developing a specific solution rather quickly, and then have a huge issue staying focused.
That's also why I can't imagine being a programmer. Being a sysadmin, however, is great! Dealing with many different tickets a day. -
what is wrong with android storage access hierarchy? All i want to do is to make a file explorer app which could show user a list of all the files on their device and memory card(if available), but its been days and i cannot find a proper way for that.
I checked all the Environment class methods and context.getFileDir()/other methods of ContextCompat , but they either point to emulated storage or the app's folder, but not the sd card. I have scratched my head and pulled all my hairs out researching a lot deep into this area, but found nothing. The only thing that works sometime is the hardcoded paths( eg new File("/sdcard") ) , but that looks like a terrible hack and i know its not good.
I have also read briefly about Storage Access Framework, but i don't think that's what I want. From what i know, SAF works in the following manner : user opens my app>>clicks on a button>>my app fires an intent to SAF>> SAF opens its own UI>>user selects 1 or multiple file>> and my app recieves those file uris. THAT'S A FILE PICKER, AND I DON'T WANT THAT.
I want the user to see a list of his files in my app only. Because if not, then what's the point of my app with the title "File explorer"?7 -
Hey guys I've a problem I've been trying to solve for a while. Also I'm a college student so my knowledge isn't going to be the greatest so go easy on me if it's simple to solve😂. So I'm creating a real time licence plate detector using yolo lite, my own deep learning ocr and plan to add the model to fast api. So as an input to the rest api, the user will submit a IP camera link for openCV to get individual frames for preprocessing before yolo predictions. The problem I have is how to I handle multiple real time IP camera feeds at once?. Ive been researching multi threading but read that it can cause issues with async definitions in fast api. Any advice will be greatly appreciated and if more information is needed just shout!.

Last week I spent a couple of days researching how to sync a CalDAV server with any Android calendar.
I downloaded several apps, and tried to connect in many ways (without HTTPS, calendar link, user link, any combination of them, with and without www, etc.)
Today I chose an option I had been trying to avoid: downloading an app that was recommended in some places but that's no longer on Google Play Store.
Got the APK from some website that didn't look too suspicious...
website.com, username, password; and it WORKED. (This also confirmed my server was well configured)
IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. Within the next minutes I could test sending events to and fro.
WHY?
WHAT- WHY IS THERE NO ALTERNATIVE FOR SOMETHING SO TRIVIAL. This future is so dumb.
One would have thought that there was something better than a dead-simple app made for Android 4.4
I really can't believe it.4 -
How should you override Equals in Java?
We have model classes with lots of fields and the we override the details equals to compare all the fields. I guess like doing a deep comparison.
And in all these classes SONAR is complaining about lots of ifs, complexity, etc.
And it's killing the analysis time... Old issue never fixed because whoever setup sonar was too incompetent to bother asking, researching, or fixing...
Is there a better way to override the equals to get the same result but without triggering SONAR issues?
Pretty sure this is a solved problem. And well if the top of my head, is just create a Util method that uses reflection like
Boolean equals( Object a, b, Class class)
foreach (String f: class, getFields()) {if !compare(class.getField(f,a),class.getField(f,b)) return false; }
return true5 -
A long time ago I got an idea for an Internet concierge shopping service that would pair you up with a human to help you comparison shop anything. Obviously this was before AI or the kind of tech we’re used to now. The idea was that the help of a real live person to help you track down deals was better than some of the emerging product recommendation engines I was researching. I figured I’d at least make a short term business out of it until tech caught up. So I built the site, DB, and business logic and recruited my bargain-hunting wife to help people find good buys. It worked ok, but wasn’t easy to monetize because people wanted her help for free rather than pay any kind of fee. Their perception was they weren’t saving a substantial amount if they had to pay someone to help them. Of course, our pitch was that by paying someone to help them, they might avoid paying more by trying it on their own.
It was an interesting experiment anyways.1 -
Why am i like this XD
I wanted to finally get into home-labbing, but i would rather over-pay for a machine rather than just build it myself

SCAM FUNDS RECOVERY SERVICES // RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY
As a military officer, I approach challenges with a strategic mindset, relying on discipline, training, and a commitment to mission success. However, nothing could have prepared me for the deception I encountered while investing in cryptocurrency. Like many, I was drawn to the promise of significant returns and the innovative nature of digital assets. I believed that my analytical skills would help me navigate this new landscape, but I quickly learned how easily even the most vigilant can fall victim to fraud. I lost over $50,000 to a fraudulent broker who operated with a façade of professionalism and credibility. Initially, everything seemed legitimate. The broker’s website was polished, their marketing materials were compelling, and the testimonials appeared genuine. As I invested more money, I felt a sense of excitement and optimism, convinced that I was making sound decisions. However, it all came crashing down when I attempted to withdraw my funds, only to find that my requests were met with delays and evasions. The frustration was overwhelming. I felt not only a sense of financial loss but also a personal failure. As someone who has dedicated my life to serving and protecting others, it was difficult to accept that I had been deceived. I spent countless hours researching and trying to understand how I could recover my investments, but each lead seemed to lead me further into a maze of deceit. The emotional toll was significant, and I was left feeling uncertain about my future. Just when I thought all hope was lost, I discovered Rapid Digital Recovery. Their reputation for helping victims of financial fraud caught my attention. After reaching out, I was met with a knowledgeable and empathetic, Rapid Digital Recovery who understood the complexities of my situation. They carefully assessed my case and outlined a clear plan of action, giving me the guidance I desperately needed. With their support, I was able to recover 95% of my losses, a result I once thought was impossible. This experience has been a profound lesson in the importance of vigilance in financial matters and the value of seeking help when necessary. The world of investments can be fraught with risks, and it’s crucial to remain cautious. I now urge others to be careful with their investments; not everyone is trustworthy. Always conduct thorough research, and when in doubt, consult professionals who have a proven track record. It’s a lesson I will carry with me, both in my professional life and personal finances.

You know how people rant about js frameworks; well the very same is true about nosql.
I thought let me broaden my horizon (pun intended) with a nosql db in my project.
So from Friday evening, I started off with ElasticSearch, which is pretty simple to get started, but apparently I need to understand it a lot better to use it as a primary data-store.
Then I stumble upon orient-db, was pretty exciting and learnt the apis/librarys but researching it a bit more to learn about the community; there is some bad-blood there.
Now I'm onto something called ArangoDB, think I'll stick with this; Any more time spent on this and I'll just give up on the project.5 -

Or, I start coding it for a bit and then forget it ever existed for a few months and then remember it again and then work on it a little more and then forget again and the cycle repeats until I lose interest in the project. -
I've been studying a bit about business analytics and intelligence to diversify a bit from dev.
After a lot of looking around I've found it's all just glorified jargon which basically enables your decision to have backing of facts and logic. It sounds as if it's a great coverup tool but don't know if it actually helped decision-making.
Why does researching the market/competition need to have a thousand breakdowns/categories/focus areas.
I feel like an interpretation of business analytics is a very simple and intuitive solution but there is just too much random and wasteful metrics attached to it.
I believe it's just my nascent knowledge and experience speaking, but I never felt the same way about software development, financials, etc2 -
Here is the question of the goddamn decade I've puzzled before and now I'm going to let someone else tell me what they think.
Is there a goddamn alternative to google maps that has landmarks and layers and roads and offline storage that works well on older phones (2014-2015 ish) that aren't goddamn iphone of mega-doom 600.00/piece !
because goddamn it maps crashes my phone !
and I'm sick of being reminded of shit people told me by researching it myself and being disappointed, anyone with a personal experience and recommemdation ??6 -
Within the past 24 hours TWINUI has appeared on my laptop. I noticed it in the properties of an audio file, as one of the choices to open the FLAC audio file, along with the apps I installed already.
I'm fairly certain of when it broke through and why. Is there anything I can do to get it as far the fuck away from me as possible.

[I feel it necessary to issue a caveat emptor: if you feel the need to reply to my post, haughtily pointing out that I could've looked up the answer myself &c., I advise you to wait until tomorrow. Last week I posted a question on encyclopedia-titanica.org, asking for the Morse call letters of RMS Aquitania. I searched my books and I searched online, but I couldn't find the answer, so I created a post asking what it was. Some tosser thought it appropriate to go off on me for not spending enough time researching the question before posting it. In any case I ripped him a few shiny new arsewholes. This entire post is ever so slightly aberrant, but there you are. Thanks.]2 -
PROFESSIONAL CRYPTO RECOVERY COMPANY; BITCOIN AND ETH RECOVEYR EXPERT HIRE CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE
Early 2025,I was captivated by a cryptocurrency trading company that promised extraordinary financial rewards. Their marketing materials boasted high returns, expert mentorship, and the allure of becoming a self-sufficient online trader. Eager to capitalize on the volatile crypto market, I underwent a series of assessments to prove my trading aptitude and dedication. The third test, a rigorous simulation involving real-time market analysis, risk management strategies, and cryptocurrency volatility scenarios, convinced me of the platform’s legitimacy. By this stage, I had invested roughly $56,000, reassured by their polished interface and assurances that my funds were secure and growing. The turning point came when I attempted to withdraw my accumulated balance of $273,000, which included trading commissions and a $25,000 “loyalty bonus.” Instead of processing my request, the company demanded an additional $83,000 to “finalize tax compliance protocols” and unlock my account. They framed this as a routine step to “legitimize” my earnings and transition me to a “permanent trader” tier. Skepticism set in as their communication grew evasive: delayed responses, vague explanations about blockchain “security fees,” and sudden claims of “wallet activation errors. Alarm bells rang louder when they cited “suspicious activity” on my account, insisting another $50,000 deposit was needed to “verify liquidity” and release my funds. Each delay came with new urgency, threats of account suspension, forfeited profits, or even legal repercussions for “breaching terms.” Exhausted by their manipulative tactics, I refused further payments and began researching recovery options. A trusted colleague recommended Cyber Constable Intelligence, a firm specializing in crypto fraud cases. Their team swiftly identified red flags: fake trading volumes, fabricated regulatory certifications, and wallet addresses linked to offshore exchanges. Through forensic analysis, they traced my funds, recovering a significant p
oration within weeks, restoring my hope and financial stability.

HOW CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK FROM A CRYPTO SCAM? HIRE DIGITAL TECH GUARD RECOVERY
In late 2024, I came across Bitdollar. com and Cryptodev. com, two websites promising extraordinary returns of 220% in just 10 days. As a novice investor, the prospect of such rapid, high returns was incredibly enticing. The idea of quick wealth seemed like a golden opportunity, leading me to invest $80,000 in each platform, totaling $160,000, with high hopes for the “guaranteed” profits.
For the first few days, everything seemed promising. I logged into my accounts daily, watching the numbers grow, and my excitement built. I began imagining the possibilities—exotic vacations, new investments, a better lifestyle. But as the 10-day period neared its end, my excitement turned to frustration. When I tried to access my funds, I was locked out. My accounts seemed to have vanished. Emails to customer service went unanswered, and withdrawal attempts were met with vague error messages. What I thought was a smart investment started feeling like a nightmare. I was stranded, unable to access a single cent, and panic set in as I realized I might have been scammed. Desperate, I confided in an Instagram friend who had faced a similar situation. They recommended DIGITAL TECH GUARD RECOVERY, a service that had helped them recover funds from a shady platform. With little to lose, I contacted the team. They responded quickly, explaining how common these scams are and outlining their recovery process. After I made a financial commitment, they diligently tracked down my funds. Within weeks, DIGITAL TECH GUARD RECOVERY successfully recovered my entire $160,000. This experience was a harsh lesson in the risks of high-return investments. Now, I approach opportunities with caution, researching thoroughly before investing. I’m grateful to DIGITAL TECH GUARD RECOVERY for restoring my financial stability and teaching me the importance of due diligence.

Am Christine, from Tauranga, New Zealand, and I want to share my experience with Octa2fx, which resulted in a devastating loss of NZD 40,000. Initially, I was drawn in by their promises of high returns and a user-friendly platform. However, it quickly became clear that my experience would be anything but positive. From the start, the process felt off. After making my deposits, I faced increasing pressure from Octa2fx to put in more money before I could make any withdrawals. Each time I attempted to access my funds, they claimed I needed to pay additional fees. It felt like a never-ending cycle, and I was left wondering if I would ever see my money again. The lack of transparency was alarming. I tried to get clear information about their withdrawal policies, but every inquiry seemed to lead to more vague responses. It felt like they were intentionally keeping me in the dark. They even suggested I purchase a Wirex card for NZD 9,000, claiming it was necessary to access my supposed profits. At that point, it was clear to me that something was seriously wrong.I began to feel trapped. The emotional and financial toll was overwhelming, and I started to lose hope. It was frustrating to think that I had worked hard for my money, only to have it mishandled by a company that seemed more interested in making money off me than helping me invest. In my desperation, I started researching recovery options. That’s when I discovered Digital Web Recovery. Their positive reviews and testimonials gave me a glimmer of hope, so I decided to reach out. From the very first conversation, their team was understanding and professional. They took the time to explain the recovery process and assured me that they would do everything they could to help.Digital Web Recovery guided me step by step through the recovery process. They were diligent in their efforts and kept me informed at every stage. HOW TO RECOVER YOUR STOLEN BITCOIN, ETHEREUM OR OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCY WITH EXPERTS FROM WIZARD ASSET RECOVERY
In 2019, I first heard about Bitcoin through my colleagues in the tech industry. At the time, the idea of a decentralized currency intrigued me, especially as a way to diversify my investments. After researching and following the market, I decided to take the plunge and invest. What began as a small venture grew significantly over the years, and by 2024, my Bitcoin portfolio had swelled to over $700,000. It was a major part of my financial future, and I felt confident about my steps to secure my holdings.
Then, life threw a curveball. After relocating to a new city for a job opportunity, I realized something critical was missing—my Bitcoin backup codes. In the chaos of moving, I had somehow misplaced the codes I needed to access my wallet. Panic set in as I tore through boxes and files, desperately trying to locate them. I spent weeks retracing my steps, consulting with online forums, and trying every option, but nothing worked. The sinking feeling of potentially losing access to $700,000 was overwhelming. I had no idea how to get back into my wallet, and the stress was taking its toll.
Just when I was beginning to lose hope, a fellow investor told me about Wizard Asset Recovery. It all started on Facebook when I came across a crowdfunding campaign for an eco-friendly product that seemed too good to pass up. The campaign page featured glowing testimonials, professional images, and a video of the prototype. The creators seemed genuine, so I was excited to support their project. The creators posted updates regularly, expressing gratitude to their backers and assuring us that production was moving forward. 633869Hi, I’m Robert. My journey into the world of Bitcoin began in 2024, thanks to a crypto-savvy classmate who casually mentioned his investments during a study session. Until then, I only had a passing interest in cryptocurrencies. But that conversation piqued my curiosity, and I began researching more about Bitcoin and blockchain technology. What started as casual reading quickly turned into a growing fascination. Eventually, I decided to take the plunge and invested a modest amount, something I considered more of an experiment than a serious financial move.To my surprise, that small gamble paid off. Within months, my investment skyrocketed, reaching an incredible $100,000. Watching that number rise was thrilling; it felt like I had stumbled into the future of finance. I was euphoric, imagining all the possibilities this sudden windfall could bring. For a while, I truly felt like I had unlocked a door to financial freedom. That feeling didn’t last long. In early 2025, everything took a dramatic turn. After a wild college party, I woke up to discover my phone was missing, lost somewhere in the chaos of the night. Losing a phone is bad enough, but my real panic set in when I remembered that my Bitcoin wallet’s two-factor authentication was tied to that device. I didn’t have backup codes. Just like that, I was locked out of my fortune. The helplessness I felt was overwhelming. I couldn’t believe I might have just lost $100,000 overnight.I confided in a friend, who mentioned a company called DUNAMIS CYBER SOLUTION .I was hesitant to believe it; these things usually sound too good to be true, but I had nothing to lose. I contacted them, hoping for even a sliver of hope. To my surprise, their team was not only responsive but incredibly knowledgeable. HIRE MUYERN TRUST HACKER TO HELP RECOVER LOST INVESTMENT
I was drawn into a promising crypto investment opportunity, a platform offering a 4-month contract with a 2% monthly withdrawal on a “free margin account.” The idea of steady, guaranteed returns felt secure, and like many others, I believed I was making a wise decision that would help grow my savings. Unfortunately, what seemed like a legitimate chance to profit became a scam. In my eagerness to invest, I trusted the platform completely, even borrowing money from banks to fund my account. I believed this was a smart financial move, one that would pay off in the long run. But as the weeks passed, it became painfully clear that things were not as they seemed. Despite multiple attempts to withdraw my funds, I found that my account was locked, and I was unable to access a single penny. The total amount I had invested—$450,000—was effectively gone. The emotional and financial toll has been devastating. What started as a hopeful investment quickly spiraled into a nightmare. I now face the real possibility of bankruptcy, and it’s been difficult to express the extent of the pain and frustration I’ve gone through. The sense of betrayal and helplessness is overwhelming, and I’m sharing my story to warn others who may be considering similar investments. If you are looking into crypto or any online investment platform, please take the time to do thorough research. There are countless stories online, especially on forums like Reddit, where individuals share their experiences with scams. Platforms promising guaranteed returns or unusually high, consistent payouts should always raise a red flag. Scammers often prey on people’s desire for quick, easy profits, but these platforms rarely, if ever, deliver on their promises. After months of struggle, I found a legitimate recovery service called MUYERN TRUST HACKER. ( Whats app: + 1 (4-4-0) (3-3-5) 0205 ) ( Te le gram: muyerntrusthackertech ) They helped me recover 90% of my lost funds in just two days. While the damage can never be fully undone, I’m deeply grateful for their assistance and hope my story can offer some hope to others who have fallen victim to similar scams. Please learn from my experience. Protect yourself by staying cautious, researching any investment thoroughly, and seeking help from legitimate recovery services like MUYERN TRUST HACKER if you find yourself duped.4 -

My wife and I had always dreamed of investing in real estate, and after researching various opportunities, we decided to focus on North Carolina. The market seemed ripe for growth, and we were eager to get started. However, what we thought would be a straightforward and lucrative venture quickly turned into a nightmare. We fell victim to a sophisticated scam. The fraudulent company promised us high returns on real estate investments, and they seemed convincing, with professional websites and promising testimonials. We made a significant financial commitment nearly $80,000 believing it was a safe and sound investment. But soon after, all communication ceased, and we realized we had been scammed. Our dreams were shattered, and the loss felt unbearable. We feared we had lost everything. In a state of despair, I confided in a close friend from church. After hearing our story, he recommended a service called ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST, claiming they had helped others recover lost funds from online scams. At first, we were skeptical. We had already been burned once, and the idea of trusting another service seemed risky. However, our friend’s assurance gave us a glimmer of hope, so we decided to give it a try. To our relief, ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST proved to be exactly what they promised. From the moment we reached out, they were professional, empathetic, and thorough. Their team worked diligently to investigate our case, keeping us updated throughout the process. It took about five months, but we were absolutely thrilled when most of our money more than $60,000 was successfully recovered. This experience has been a life-changing lesson. We are incredibly grateful for the support and expertise of ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST. They didn’t just recover our money they gave us back our confidence. We are now more cautious and informed in our investment decisions, but we also feel blessed that there are services out there that can help victims of scams reclaim what they’ve lost. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, I wholeheartedly recommend ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST . They truly stand by their word and have proven that there is hope, even after what seems like a loss.1 -
The Costly Lesson of Cryptocurrency Scams: How I Lost $30,000 in a Fraudulent USDT Platform, In the volatile and unpredictable world of cryptocurrency, the promise of high returns can easily cloud judgment and lead to poor decisions. Unfortunately, I learned this lesson the hard way when I fell victim to a fraudulent USDT trading platform, resulting in a devastating loss of $30,000.At first glance, the platform appeared legitimate. It had a sleek, professional interface and boasted enticing marketing materials that promised effortless profits. The user testimonials, full of glowing reviews, further reinforced my confidence, convincing me I had done my due diligence. I felt assured that I was making a wise financial move when I deposited a substantial sum into the platform. But not long . Initially, everything seemed fine. I could navigate the platform easily and track my investments. However, when I tried to withdraw funds, my requests went unanswered. Customer support, which had been prompt and helpful earlier, became increasingly unresponsive. Days turned into weeks, and still, no one from the platform addressed my concerns. It was then that the reality of the situation hit me: I had been caught in a well-orchestrated scam, and my funds were effectively locked away.Panic and regret set in. I found myself staring at the screen, paralyzed with the realization that I might never see my money again. In a desperate attempt to recover what I had lost, I began researching online for potential solutions. That’s when I discovered services like Digital Web Recovery, companies that specialize in helping victims of online scams recover lost assets.Although I’m still in the process of exploring recovery options, the emotional and financial toll of this experience has been eye-opening. It taught me a hard lesson about the importance of caution in the world of cryptocurrency. Despite my best efforts to research and verify the platform, I was still deceived by its professional appearance and promises of quick gains. This has reinforced the necessity of staying skeptical and thoroughly vetting any platform before making financial commitments. If I could offer one crucial piece of advice, it would be this: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. I learned this the hard way in early 2024 when I was drawn into a crypto arbitrage scheme while living in Australia. The platform claimed it could help me effortlessly exploit price differences in cryptocurrencies across various exchanges. They offered a user-friendly app and appeared to have guaranteed strategies, even boasting the use of AI for trading.Initially, everything seemed promising. I started with $4,000, motivated by daily updates showing my balance steadily increasing. In just a few weeks, I watched my account soar to $12,000, which tempted me to invest even more. The consistent, modest gains felt reassuring, and I began to imagine the possibilities that came with this newfound wealth. However, when I attempted to withdraw my funds, the problems began. The first hurdle was a withdrawal fee. At the time, I didn't think much of it. But then, I was hit with requests for additional fees: an exchange commission, followed by a supposed tax settlement fee. Each time I thought I was one step closer to accessing my money, another obstacle emerged. I ended up paying nearly $20,000 in various fees, all without ever seeing a cent of my profits.Eventually, the company went silent, leaving me devastated. I felt ashamed for having fallen for such a sophisticated scam, but also furious at how cleverly it had been orchestrated. I spent months researching and searching for a solution to recover my lost funds. That’s when I discovered Digital Hack Recovery, a team that specializes in recovering lost digital assets. Their expertise turned out to be invaluable. They worked diligently to access my accounts and recover not only my initial investment but also the earnings I had accumulated. To my surprise, they managed to transfer everything back to my bank account seamlessly.Digital Hack Recovery restored my faith in the possibility of reclaiming lost assets and gave me hope in an otherwise dire situation. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, I strongly encourage you to reach out to them. Their assistance can make a world of difference in navigating the aftermath of such scams.

My most recent challenge began when I made a $150,000 investment in what was presented to me as a highly lucrative policy. The opportunity seemed almost too good to pass up. Initially, everything appeared to be progressing smoothly. Within just two months, I received reports that my investment had grown to an impressive $350,000. However, this is where the trouble began. When I attempted to withdraw the funds, I encountered unexpected delays. Each time I tried to access my money, I was met with new obstacles. The investment firm explained that there were "technical issues" preventing the withdrawal, but the situation did not improve. Instead, they began demanding additional payments in order to release my funds. As an investor, I was caught off guard by these requests, but in an effort to resolve the issue and get my money back, I complied. To be honest, I'm not proud of having to write this, but I feel it's important to share my experience in case it can help someone else facing similar doubts. I suspected my ex was being unfaithful, and the doubts were making me restless. I'm not tech-savvy at all, but after days of endless worries, I stumbled upon Crypto Pandemic Hunter while researching ways to possibly confirm my suspicions.
Honestly, I was skeptical. Spying software always seemed complicated and something requiring advanced computer skills. But the more I read about it on Crypto Pandemic Hunter, the more I felt like it might be the only way to get the peace of mind I desperately craved.
What surprised me most was how user-friendly the whole process was. The team walked me through everything step-by-step. The software itself was surprisingly intuitive, even for someone like me who struggles with basic tech. The interface was clean, and the instructions were clear.
Within a short time, I started getting access to the data I needed. The spying software provided call logs, text messages, and even social media activity. I won't go into all the details, but it didn't take long to uncover the truth—my ex was indeed being unfaithful.
While the discovery was painful, I can't deny that Crypto Pandemic Hunter provided me with the clarity I needed to move forward. The tool was easy to use, and the support I received was invaluable.
I understand that using spying software raises ethical concerns; however, in my situation, I felt it was the only way to confirm my suspicions and regain control of my life. If you're considering finding the truth, I recommend you reach out to Crypto Pandemic Hunter.5 -

It's high time we stopped being fooled by all these brokers and account managers, they scammed me over $200,000 of my investment capital, they kept on requesting for extra funds before a withdrawal request can be accepted and processed, in the end, I lost all my money . All efforts to reach out to their customer support desk had declined, I found it very hard to move on. I was researching and find a broadcast that teaches on how scammed victims can recover their funds, I contacted the email provided for consultation, kingston @ cyber-wizard. com. I got feedback after some minutes and I was asked to provide all legal details concerning my investment, I did exactly what they instructed me to do without delay, to my greatest surprise I was able to recover my money back including my profit which my capital generated. I said I will not hold this to myself but share it to the public so that all scammed victims can get their funds back.

It started with what I thought was a golden opportunity. I’d been dabbling in crypto for a couple of years, mostly small trades and safe investments. But in late March, I stumbled upon a flashy new Defib project promising astronomical returns. Against my better judgment, I transferred $320,100 worth of Ethereum to what turned out to be a sophisticated phishing site. The wallet drained instantly. Panic hit like a wave. I reported the scam, contacted my exchange, and spent days researching recovery options for all dead ends. That amount wasn’t just numbers on a screen. It was years of savings, hard work, and hope. That’s when I came across iCode CYBER TECH. I was skeptical, naturally too many fake crypto recovery experts were out there just preying on the desperate. But iCode CYBER TECH had solid reviews, a verified presence, and even testimonials from others who’d been in my shoes Cautiously, I reached out From the very first call, they treated me like more than a victim. They listened, asked the right questions, and got to work immediately. Within hours, their team traced the movement of my stolen Ethereum across multiple wallets using advanced blockchain analytics tools. With court orders and compliance cooperation, iCode CYBER TECH was able to freeze the stolen assets before they were fully laundered. Of the $320,100 lost, they recovered $291,800 a staggering result I didn’t think was even possible. I had been convinced by someone I connected with on Telegram to invest in an Altcoin cryptocurrency platform that promised high returns. At the time, everything seemed legitimate—the platform looked professional, the user interface was sleek, and the individual I spoke to appeared trustworthy. I made my investment, confident that this would be a great opportunity .However, as soon as I tried to withdraw my funds, I was faced with a shocking reality: I couldn’t access my account, and the platform seemed to be non-functional. After multiple attempts to contact support, I began to realize I had fallen victim to a scam. The platform was fake, and my funds were likely lost forever. For the past three years, I've been involved in Forex trading, constantly learning new strategies and honing my skills. Along the way, I’ve come across many opportunities, but one particular online trading contest left me shaken and wiser. What appeared to be a legitimate contest with a grand prize turned out to be an elaborate scam. I’d like to share my experience to help others avoid a similar trap. It started with an online ad promoting a Forex contest. The hosting company seemed reputable, the prize was attractive, and the website looked professional. Eager to join, I paid a $1,000 registration fee. Soon after, I got an email saying I’d qualified for the next round but to proceed, I needed to cover $2,000 in shipping costs for the prize. Believing it was worth it, I paid. But after that, communication stopped. No prize. No response. Suspicious, I started researching and found out that many others had been caught in the same scheme. I had fallen victim to a professional scam and lost a total of $10,000. Feeling overwhelmed, I began looking for help. That’s when I found a digital recovery service specializing in online scams. I provided all my evidence, and they began working on my case. Thanks to their expertise, they were able to trace the transaction and recover my funds. This experience taught me the importance of verifying everything before making financial commitments online. I hope my story raises awareness about online trading scams and helps others avoid them. Be cautious if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

hey folks, what are your thoughts on different kinds of insurances?
I recently went through a major accident that would have impacted our finances significantly , if i didn't had a corporate insurance. And this led to me researching a lot into different kinds of insurances : health, motor, home, travel, life, term life,... there are so many of these.
And they have a significant cost! they do cover benefits (claims) of even bigger amount but some1 with my salary and 12 different insurance will be shelving out approx 4 months of salary as premium every year. at the same time, our dear ol govt is taking 30% (4 months worth) as taxes.
and then we have a simpler generation that was my parents, who lived their 50+ years without any of these insurances and taxes. their income sources were very less to be taxed (or make considerable savings) , they will rush to govt hospitals for free treatment and prey to never get a major disease, and not leave the world without making their dependents independent.
so this is a weird philosophical question. should i live knowing am secured from stranger companies which may help at times ,while i try to manage my live with 40% of my salary?
or should i live like my parents(& billion others), trusting the govt and system to help me in times of need while i feed them my 30% salary an try to stay alive with the remaining 70%?4 -
I’m from the fictional town of Elmsworth. After investing AU$200,000 in Cardano through ProTrade Solutions, I experienced a remarkable surge in my investment. The value of my holdings skyrocketed to AU$360,000 in just a matter of weeks. It was an exhilarating time, filled with dreams of what I could do with my newfound wealth. However, that excitement quickly turned into frustration and anxiety when I attempted to withdraw my funds, only to have my requests rejected repeatedly.I thought it might just be a temporary glitch. I contacted ProTrade Solutions, expecting swift assistance, but instead, I faced long wait times and vague responses. Each day that passed without resolution added to my growing concern. I was left in the dark, feeling helpless as my investment remained locked away, out of reach.Desperate for help, I began researching potential solutions. I stumbled upon various forums where other investors shared similar experiences with ProTrade Solutions. Many had faced withdrawal issues, and some even suggested that it might be a scam. This realization hit me hard; I wasn’t just dealing with a technical issue, but potentially losing my entire investment to a fraudulent platform. Amidst my growing anxiety, I found a beacon of hope: Hack Buster Recovery. I read numerous testimonials praising their expertise in recovering funds from online scams. Intrigued yet skeptical, I decided to reach out. The team at Hack Buster Recovery promptly responded, guiding me through the initial steps. Their knowledge and professionalism reassured me.

The platform, which I had trusted with my funds, disappeared without a trace, and I was left in shock, confused, and completely devastated. At first, I couldn’t believe it. I had spent hours researching and ensuring the platform appeared to be reliable. Everything seemed legitimate, from the interface to the communication with customer support. But as time went on, I noticed red flags. My withdrawals were delayed, and my account seemed to be locked. When I reached out for help, I was met with evasive responses and increasingly unhelpful customer support. It became painfully clear that I had been deceived. I tried to contact Kraken, assuming the platform was somehow related, but quickly realized I was getting nowhere. My emails went unanswered, and the phone lines were either busy or disconnected. It felt like I was being brushed aside, and I was left to deal with this nightmare alone. I was desperate, frustrated, and unsure of what to do next. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands. I started researching online and came across stories of people who had faced similar scams. That’s when I found ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST, a company specializing in helping victims of financial scams recover their lost funds. It wasn’t easy—there were many moments when I doubted the process and questioned if it would even work. But I had nothing to lose, so I decided to give it a try. Hello Friends. Several months ago, I was lured into what seemed like a legitimate crypto investment opportunity, The platform had professional looking websites, active customer support, and what appeared to be real time profit dashboards. After a few small successful withdrawals, I became confident and invested a much larger sum over $200,000. Soon after, the platform stopped responding. My account was locked, and all communication ceased. I realized too late that I had fallen victim to a sophisticated crypto scam. Feeling helpless and devastated, I began researching recovery options and came across iCode Cyber Tech, a reputable cyber investigation and recovery service. Greetings, my name is Cohen Green, and I am based in San Francisco, California, where I work within the real estate sector. Two months prior, I incurred a significant financial setback, losing $1.2 million in Bitcoin and USDT, owing to a fraudulent investment firm. The incident began when I received an enticing proposal from an organization called CANCAP, promising high returns and showcasing verified investor profits, which led me to invest the entire amount.
I initially encountered relentless demands for additional payments when attempting to withdraw funds. Shortly thereafter, their website vanished, and every attempt to contact them proved fruitless. I was left in shock, my hope of recovering the money dwindling. Despite my efforts with authorities, these fraudsters remained elusive. Approximately one month after the incident, while researching online, I discovered an article about MORPHOHACK CYBER SERVICE, a firm renowned for its expertise in cryptocurrency recovery. I reached out to them and was astonished by the efficiency and professionalism of their team. Employing sophisticated software tools, they managed to recover $816,000 from the total amount in under 72 hours, even months after the scam occurred. I remain profoundly grateful for their assistance and am still in awe of their capabilities.
