HR Lady: we saw your profile and we think it fits what we're looking for, I just need to know what you use for front-end programming
Me: I use ReactJs, AngularJs and for backend NodeJs
HR Lady: Hmm, so you don't use Javascript
Me: ... (unhandled exception in my head)
Me: M'am everything I mentioned is using Javascript
HR Lady: oh! ok.9 -
OW FUCKING GREAT
BEEN CREATING THIS WEBSITE FOR 1 MONTH USING REACTJS. IT'S HALFWAY DONE. NOW THE HIGHER UPS CHANGES THEIR DECISION THAT WE HAVE TO MAKE IT WITH WORDPRESS.
FUUUUUCCCCKKKK. I'M FUCKING OUT.21 -
A recruiter just sent me a position which required 10+ year experience on ReactJS. So, should I reply "Good luck."?14
-
Okay, it just happened to me.
Researching jobs, found one that requires ReactJS 7+ years of experience.
Initial release: May 29, 2013; 5 years ago6 -
NaNaNaNaNaNaN BATMAN!
Found in one of our internal version control tools today. The Dark Knight is among us.3 -
Hello, I just want to let you know I'm working on a 15 year old product and it is currently in production.
It uses Angular.js and one of the earliest versions of React.js. I cannot use ES6, we don't have Babel, no JSX syntax, no CSS preprocessor. No webpack.
I must support browser since IE6 with an ES3 syntax. (luckily I got some some polyfills for an ES5 syntax)
When I build a component I have to call React.createClass and React.createElement.
The render() function is basically a nested pile of React.createElement.
There is no documentation for this product, no tests, no anything.
I had to reverse engineer it in order to understand how it works.
The code base uses mixed programming styles and naming conventions, plus thousands of little js files.
Oh and obviously no hot reload, every time I make a change I have to restart everything.
Please, send help.
I'm in danger.
Sincerely,
An underpaid developer
....
I'm not crying, you are crying...19 -
Print 'Hello World' in ReactJS.

'React JS functional fun'
A tweet about reactjs, #'d with 'python' and an image of the ruby logo....someone's tired this Friday 😂1 -
I DID IT :D
I VERTICALLY ALIGNED A DIV IN CSS
I'm a noob in front-end development, I usually use bootstrap but now I did it in vanilla CSS inside ReactJs =D
or is it lol, I don't know, I used these:
position: "relative",
top: "50%",
transform: "translateY(-50%)"

I created a my portfolio using ReactJS and actually open sourced the whole thing. Within just a few weeks, its got 67 stars, 38 forks, 3 watches, 1 issue, 1 pull request, and so on.
People out of nowhere messaged me in my whatsapp, skype, facebook to help them in React.
People out of nowhere wanted to hire me, even though I'm still working in a company.
People out of nowhere messaged me just to tell me, how much they liked my work and appreciated it for open sourcing it.
It felt awesome! Like, I can't explain how amazing it felt! ^_^8 -
This guest at our house was checking out the whiteboard in my room. It had some JavaScript code i wanted to keep in mind and some ReactJs stuff
Him: you know, I can recommend you a book, if you're into reading?
Me: well, I don't have that much time to read, I prefer online tutorials
(We're interrupted at that point)
(Later at dinner)
Me: which book were you gonna recommend me btw
Him: there's this psychology book I'm reading...
Me: oh.3 -
Reactdev, what kind of ui library that usually you guys use and really easy to understand? Something like material ui, react-table or anything like that. I just need a really easy components library that I can use for small projects22
-
I was MEAN developer and moved to MERN developer.
My thoughts:
Angular very good framework BUT react + redux fucking awesome7 -
Just run “npm install”.
Mother fucker, if that worked, or if the six hours I spent trying to unfuck your dependencies worked, we would not be having this conversation.9 -
Ok, so I work at this "Great" company. I joined a new team recently with a project that is supposed to be a lot better than many of the other projects we have.
THESE MOTHEERRRRRFUCKERS don't even have hot reload on the app. You have to rebuild the app everytime you make a change. Are you kidding me?! We are using React. One of the basics of React is hot reload. I get into a fucking meeting and one of the devs is like, "I have one important thing to tell you, don't use hooks (a not so new feature in react yet something everyone should use at this point)" and the critical reason we don't use it is because they don't want to confuse the Java devs who are used to their little oop style o_O
Maaaan fuck your developers, it's not my fault you guys can't learn something so simple like functional programming. I haven't even started a sprint yet, I'll burn this app and make you rewrite it all.15 -
Showing ReactJS to a PHP developer must be what it felt like to show fire to a caveman for the first time…6
-
I learnt vue.js and thought it was awesome. I started reading react documentation today and now I realise vue.js is even more awesome than I first thought.10
-
Volunteered at a hospital and made some kind of intranet for other volunteers because they wanted to use a facebook group for internal communication which I found stupid.
Made a reactjs/slimphp app and learned a variety of things while coding, unfortunately it had to support internet explorer which sucks balls.
Quit after a year because of school and a paid job, someone else is maintaining it now :)1 -
Why the hell does every single frontend job on Earth require expert knowledge of React, a fad JS library that will be forgotten in 5 years?
For extra credit: when was the sage advice of "keep content, appearance, and behavior separate" overruled in favor of "use JavaScript for literally everything"? Have I been in a coma for the past 3 years?
Look, I understand the appeal of separating code into repeatable components. I just don't understand why essentially the same thing can't be accomplished with vanilla JS, which is ten times easier to understand and doesn't require an entire website to be written in some make-believe offshoot of Ecmascript that will look like hieroglyphics a decade from now.
There are also seemingly no positions that offer people a platform to start applying React to real world scenarios. I've seen the "understand React in 5 minutes" articles. Wow, super cool, you used 30 lines of JavaScript to render a "Hello world" div. The possibilities are truly endless.
But seriously, how does this shit work? Where do I go to learn the mystical art of offloading every single one of a website's responsibilities to JavaScript? How do I use React to build an actual functioning website, and at what point will it save me time or increase my productivity instead of just pissing me off?17 -
1.ReactJS sucks ass.
2.Full stack developer is myth.
3.Multiple languages makes you impotent to fuck in any single given language.
Two truth and a lie.15 -
I'm not going to have a lot of new friends here but I am fed up with all those guys complaining about CSS on devRant.
CSS is damn easy. Get over it. Take some lessons, learn it the right way and shut your mouth.
I'd prefer you share your enlighten opinion on CSS in JS with React Native or CSS compositing with ReactJS which are both huge pain in the ass.
Plain CSS isn't the cause of all your pain. You are.11 -
Never though much of MOOC like Udemy and coursera. Boy was i wrong. I never learned cool new subjects like docker, cubernetes and reactjs that fast:)! It even gives me more oppertunities for a new job! Never Give up learning new tech guys :)1

TL;DR: Stop using React for EVERYTHING. It's not the end-all solution to every application need.
My team is staffed about 50/50 with tenured devs, and junior devs who have never written a full application and don't understand the specific benefits of different libraries/framworks. As a result, most of these junior devs have jumped on the React train, and they're under the impression that React is the end-all answer to any possible application need. Doesn't matter what type of app is, what kind of data is going to be flowing through the app, data scale, etc. In their eyes, React is always the answer. Now, while I'm not a big fan of React myself, I will say that it does its job when its tasked with a data-heavy application that needs to be refreshed/re-rendered dynamically and frequently (like Facebook.) However, my main gripe is that some people insist on using it for EVERYTHING. They refuse to acknowledge that there can be better library/framework choices (Angular, Vue, or even straight jQuery,) and they refuse to learn any other frameworks. You can hit them with countless technical reasons as to why React isn't a good choice for a particular application, and they'll just spout off the same tidbits from the "ReactJS Makes My Nips Hard 101" handbook: "React is the future," "Component-based web architecture is the future," (I'm not arguing with that last one) "But...JSX bro.," "Facebook and Netflix use it, so that's how you know it's amazing." They'll use React for a simple app, and make it overly-complex, and take months to write something that should have taken them a week. For example, we have one dev who has never used any other frameworks/libraries apart from React, and he used React (via create-react-app) to write what is effectively a single form and a content widget inside of a bootstrap template. It took him 4 MONTHS to write this, and it still isn't fully functioning. The search functionality doesn't really work (in fact, it's just array filtering,) and wont return any results if you search for the first word in an entry. His repo is a mess, filled with a bunch of useless files that were bootstrap'd in via create-react-app. We've built apps like this in a week in the past using different libraries/frameworks, and he could have done the same if he didn't overly-complicate the project by insisting on using React. If your app is essentially a dynamic form, you don’t need a freaking virtual DOM.
This happens every time a big new framework hits the scene. New young developers get sucked into it, because it's the cool hip new framework (or in React's case, library.) and they use it for everything, even when it's not the best choice. It happened with Angular, Rails, and now it's happening with React.
React has its benefits, but please please please consider which library/framework is the best choice from a technical standpoint before immediately jumping on the React train because "Facebook uses it bro."2 -

ReactJs(TypeScript or Js version)31 -
Why the shit is WebDev getting so complicated? It’s like everyone is just trying to show how smart they are instead of finding the simplest way to solve a problem. Or maybe I’m just too dumb to figure out what all this new shit does.4

Tired learning reactJS had no luck! It went above my head!
Learning JavaScript!
This is when i understood the importance of basics!13 -
"Microsoft team foundation" is my current motivation for keeping me wake up in the morning. This is just a small part in their header menu. You can do better than this!
-
Surprisingly frequently in my city, a few weeks ago for example I was in the pub discussing reactjs with a friend of mine from uni and a random bloke cut in with "there was nothing wrong with jquery" (he had a massive grin on his face, so he knew what he said). Spent the rest of the night talking with him and his son who were both consultant developers.
Fun night 🤣 -
Not a rant, in contrary.
When you post a suggestion on reactjs github and it is approved almost immediately.
You need to appreciate the small things.3 -
really gets my goat when people try to shoehorn a trendy framework into something unnecessarily. reactjs.... everywhere1
-
That moment of feeling ..
When you are working month with Vuejs
and then you see articles like
Don't read VueJS it is worthless and no jobs are there for VueJS..
But then also feel good that Vuejs is mostly inspired from Angular and ReactJS and it willl be easy to migrate :)8 -
hey guys, I recently created a classical game of 15 Puzzle. Feedbacks are appreciated. https://15puzzle.netlify.com8

My favorite quote from an article (jokingly) poking fun at React:
"I mentioned to a junior developer that his return function was getting a little unsightly with the lengthy JSX that he’d put in his render function. He told me, “Oh it’s cool. I’ll break it out into several functions that return JSX.”
I pushed him into a volcano.
The gods smiled upon us and we had rain." -
ME: Finally learned AngularJS ...now i can make perfect app..
Internet: fuss fuss fuss fuss fuss...
ME: Whats this all fuss fuss about..?
Internet: AngularJS is dead now.. ReactJS is hot on market ....5 -
My react developer tool popped up to tell me that my company slack is using the development build of react not fit for production...1

I hate HTML forms. Fucking hate them.
They're semantic so folk use them to group related inputs.
But they're also functional if you're not just typing something in and pushing enter to send it to a server, you have to override every. fucking. event.
Semantic _or_ functional is fine, but for the love of all that is holy, not both. I hate this.14 -
"React developers" who write 1-page monolithic pages instead of modular components should be guillotined...
PS: Frustrated AF :(7 -
Be proficient in JavaScript.

It's not possible.
Let's start by mastering reactjs.
HAHAHA IM KILLING MYSELF16 -
What should I go for? AngularJS, ReactJS, EmberJS or VueJS? I'm confused. Help!?question angular 2 angular ember.js angular4 js angular2 javascript emberjs javascript fatigue ember angularjs38

To be honest, I'm not as excited as I was 6-7 years ago when our tech industry seen a big leap, where these ML/Deep Learning algorithms were out performing humans, Apache Spark out perfomed Hadoop in distributed computing, Docker/Kubernetes are the new phenomenon in software development and delivery, Microservices architecture, ReactJS virtual DOM concepts were so cool.
Really though, I've come realise that these software trends come and go. All you need to do is adapt and go with the flow.3 -
I think reactjs is an actual cult. Not like one, not similar to one, but a real actual cult.
They have magical thinking, deny reality, blindly follow whatever new things there is, rationalize insane things, require immense time commitments, have an elitist attitude, it's an actual real life cult.74 -
I keep jumping between unfinished personal projects and then i get busy with the job, when I try to go back to them, I lose interest! Any advice?7
-
I made a CLI tool i named it CRAO, its for creating react apps offline, cuz it wraps up all the necessary modules, and its fast.
Check on NPM Create-react-app-offline2 -
I tried to go for a job as a ReactJS junior dev.. I got my first interview and they liked my prototype.. but..
A week later they reply: "We decided not to go with you because we hired an expert in ReactJS".
Err.. really? You're hiring expert-level ReactJS developers for a junior position?! What the frig.
You want to know what I think? This whole "It's ok that you don't know everything, you'll learn on the job" thing is a hoax. No, the job market doesn't want novices. With every single interview, I'm met with: "but you're not an expert and we can't afford that".
This reminds me of the best advice my professor (seasoned expert in the field, real engineer with more than 20 years experience) once gave me:
"The job market doesn't have the time nor patience to mollycoddle you. When you enter it, you have to already know things to an expert degree because companies want value. They're hiring you because you have these skills and knowledge.
You have to already know what they ask before they ask it. You're required to know things by yesterday, so to speak. It is an exigent industry out there. This is why we bring you the foundations - so that you go further on your own and you can take on any problem"9 -
So recently moved to a new place. New roommates. Thought lets initiate a talk. Found out one of em is a web developer.
Me: So, what you working on?
Him: Web technologies
Me: oh great...I worked on ReactJS and AngularJS.
Him: Our company uses AngularJS.
Me: So you work on AngularJS, right?
Him: Oh no I don't work on AngularJS...I am a frontend developer...
(Awkward silence)
(Inner me: No shit. Need to find new place.)
Should I tell him?1 -
Went from "I fucking hate ReactJS" to "Holy fucking shit. I have been watching React tutorials for 6 hours straight without pause."5

True its a two days old story but now ReactJs 16 is out, and license is now MIT.
this is a good way to start my day :) -
My god i hate so much reactjs... And will never understand how a normal brain could write such a russian doll code.
But then, i met flutter, god i will puke.10 -
I'm so bored converting a table from HTML to some weird ReactJS framework...
I've been postponing it for so long!
Front-end stuff is not for me... 😕5 -

Sometimes I look at my old code and I wish I could go back in time and punch my self in the face for writing that shit
But then I look at it as I'm actually improving so guess it's ok?
Spent 4 hours fixing callback mess I had in my ReactJs project, making it all as Promise and async hope I don't fuck up this time -
When I first discovered that frameworks for web apps existed. No longer will writing websites in raw html, css, js, be an eternal labor4

Hi Everybody,
Here by I introduce you the new Java Script framework and package manager that is going to change your life forever. We have considered all the problems developers are facing during their everyday career. We use latest techniques used in configuration files (xml, yaml, json, etc.), package managers (npm, gulp, yawn, etc) and other frameworks (require-js, vuejs, reactjs, etc) into consideration to bring you a framework that has them all together in ONE BIG PACKAGE! HAHAHAHAAHAAA!
Nope. I'm just kidding :-D1 -
Me: Hey SEO guy. I am updating our online store from Flask/jQuery in ReactJS.
SEO guy: That is amazing. Google LOVES ReactJS and it will crawl the site very fast.
*fast forward*
SEO guy: Hey, did you change anything in the site because the site is not ranking anymore on Google. The URLs are dynamically generated in front end. Google does not like that.
ME: But you said that Google loves React. It took me nearly 1 month to migrate the code in React.
Fucking hell.11 -
Every day is a new day to doom us all.

Trying to learn Angular and reactjs, reading up the tutorial or documentation...
Why the hell are there ten million more shit I need to look at first? (such as rxjs, Babel, webpack... and whatever the fuck they are)
Now am I supposed to master those ten million tools/libraries before I can proceed?
Of course there is no ten million but mentally it's no difference. I'm just fed up with this.3 -
So I do not get why people use ReactJS. I hate it. for 3 years passionately. And I have to work with it every day.
- one-way data binding
this makes you write twice as much code, which will have twice as much bugs, you need to read through twice as much code from other devs.
- mixing html and JS
after all I like to pour my coffee on my omlette so I can eat and drink at the same time in the morning. This kills productivity and ugly AF
- not unified
Every dev uses their own special snowflake framework with React there is no unified way of doing things and you cannot use your familiar tools. Every project you need to start over from zero.
- Bugs bugs bugs
infinite loops, max update depth reached, key not present on list element. Let me ask you something dear ReactJS. If you know that there should be a unique key on that element. Why cannot you just put it there and shut the f up?
- works reeaally slow when compiled with TS
ReactJS was never designed to work with TS and now the tools for it are really slow. And why TS? Explicit contract is always better than an implicit contract. TS helps you in coding time, but for some reason React devs decided to worth 3 seconds to wait for compile and then realize you mad an error. ReactJS is bad and inefficient so stop making projects with it please.9 -
It literally haunts me that I've used jQuery in a reactjs project, I'm not saying that jQuery is bad but using it does not seems right, I can't sleep, always thinking about a solution, fml5
-
How fucked are you if someone mistakenly deletes the codebase for Nodejs, reactjs, npm, vuejs, angularjs?21

Planning to make a github list of usefull links on topics related to javascript, react, react native, redux etc . Drop usefull links if you have any. They can be tutorials, articles, talks, repos, packages etc.1

Just got comfortable enough with React.js to start answering people’s questions on stack overflow and I have to say it feels good to help people1

Need a bit of advice please!
I'm hiring a dev to complete a personal project. It's basically a modified CRM that needs to sync with desktop, tablets and mobiles. They suggested using React. Does that seem appropriate? Thanks in advance :)4 -
Who else feels like your JavaScript skills are lacking? I have only been coding for about 6 month's and JS for about 2 1/2 of it but still I am not an expert and I understand. But still . . .😥14

Wanting to get into reactjs but no idea where to start, I'm coming from straight php/html/css and JavaScript.
Any ideas where to start, articles to read / examples to play with or check out?7 -
I work with server side React rendering and I wanted to do an async job.

when the job requirement says AngularJS or ReactJS but interviewer wants you to provide solution using ReactJS which you have never worked in.
I do not know who you are but I will find you and I will kill you!!!1 -
I hate how React is used almost everywhere nowadays. Especially when single-page applications are used for purposes that don't actually benefit from them.
Perhaps I'm just old-fashioned, but I want websites to work even with client-side JS disabled. At least sites like Amazon don't rely on it, and work just fine. Progressive enhancement is the way to go.4 -
Been a ReactJS user for a year, today thanks to: @
chrisrhymes, @Devnergy, & @Hammster I decided to go into Vue, so much I like what I'm seeing.
For those that used both, what difference have you found in terms of performance and output size?
Oh, and using their nice resource: https://laracasts.com/series/...5 -
Dev: Now that I finally know PHP and JS it must be really easy to find a good framework and use to build my beautiful website.
The options are limited: AngularJS, ReactJS, Ember, ActivateJS, BackboneJS, ExpressJS, Laravel, RactiveJS, Node.JS, Meteor, Knockout, Symphony, Codeignitor
And yes, you thought if you don't like AngularJS you can easily switch to ReactJS. But guess what, every framework will use their own scripting languages like Jade, Blade, Typescript making it learning something new extremely smooth.
The documentation will be part of another rant3 -
Another video calling app??!

Oh yus.. Why not!
There's no login, works on mobile browser and its dead simple!

And it's very beta!
Also, anyone have any gyaan about growth hacking for something like this?28 -
I am more of a backend guy and was wondering what bullshit has been going on around Javascript, being mocked and memed around.
Then, I was asked to learn Javascript and ReactJS for front end in my project.
And then I realised, holy fucking mother of god, its fucking confusing. Whole new level shit piled right away on my face. I am newbie to front end and might be experiencing such issues, but I rarely had with other languages.
But "this" horse shit is on another level, I mean fucking a unicorn and pooping rainbow is easier than this bull.11 -
Landed my first job as a Frontend Developer after interning for 6 months.
While I already have learnt a lot about work culture, I would love to hear any tips, advices or things to know about.9 -

I got to work on this project written in PHP that is literally unsalvageable so I will need to redo it from scratch, it's an e-commerce/social network mix that allows you to resell your clothes and I will have to work with PHP-only server-side so I was looking for a JS framework that has all these cool features like Angular but does not require node.js and I stumbled upon React and Vue and I can't decide between them. I was wondering if anyone knows both of these frameworks and could help me decide which one to use. (I have almost no knowledge about these frameworks)
PS: The server-side will be PHP with MySQL because that's the only option that the client's hosting offers.7 -
Fuck fuck fuck. Joined a new gig. Been a week and today saw code which did something like this: .append(“<style>.add{}”)
FML! And this is a react app. -
Started a new role as a front end developer working with React, happy that i finaly won't have to work with wordpress anymore, having a great hope that I will learn from the best with my team, and then ... COVID-19 ... I have to work from home
first task, implement a feature on a react front end build with react boilerplate, first time seeing this repo and dispair quickly took over, there is no documentation except for clone and install, the code is a mess, the console is filled with errors and warnings ...
I did what I could, but it was not enought, my n+1 didn't complain but if I was him i'd fire my ass with no regret, now I understood why almost all my collegues are working as a backend devs.
I don't fear being fired, I fear the feeling of being not good, feeling useless, each morning I stare at the code and I become illiterate, I can't even touch a keyboard, now I don't know what to do, fixing this shitty app, trying to build something with react boilerplate and try to understand how the data flow, or continue my endless tutorial hell .1 -
Training in NodeJS for 3 years so my first contracts ask me to do Reactjs, fire me and then got hired only return to WordPress and Drupal which I havent touched since 2016.
Guess I'm back at PHP and working crazy hours fixing legacy code.
This time I think I'll master it because I lost my job last year, got sick, move back with my parents and have bills to pay.
I'm still sick but I'll keep pushing... -
Started to read JS from scratch again, there are lots to learn. I will continue with ReactJS and possibly NodeJS. Wish me some energy! It is hard.3
-
So, how do reactjs developers send a contact form email? I've searched almost 3 pages of Google results and cannot find anything useful.3
-
Hello devs. This happens to be my first rant. And I got a question to start off.
I'm looking for an existing public/open-source React project which is not too hard to understand and has a good folder/file structure and code structure. Something that gives me an idea of how a good production level code and project should be.
Any recommendation is appreciated. Can be your own project too.
Thank you 😊.10 -
I solved a error while developing a site in ReactJs, now the whole project has 68 errors all of a sudden :/7
-
Working at a different company for a few weeks before getting back to my usual work.
I'm using everything I hate: ReactJS, factories, style through JS, Jira, Teams, TDD...
The only good thing is I'm using TypeScript...1 -
Learning ReactJS... I come across this and I run it:
npx create-react-app my-app
Suddenly, 5 trillion packages are installed.

In programming world there is lot of stuff to learn and there is lot to great developers in the world after seeing code and project's of these developers I feel I am very weak in coding currently my confident is quite low cause I cannot make a simple project by my self without seeing a project tutorial video and I don't know how do I improve my dev skills and I feel stuck any suggestions?15

When react says "Module Not Found" then you realise that you have to add a period infront of the forward slash 😒

"Guys best idea to fuc... help the javascript developers. We make a framework with its own events/states and it will not change inputs or anything unless specified in state. Clearly easier to test... I mean how hard can it be?
Even better our framework will be so fuc... Helpfull that they will put an plugin so they can make it work... I mean improve...
Did i say we just throw the html and put everything in our own butchered way? Even better remember that easy
, Style= ? Hahaha we will make it an object...
O yeah and the state must be immutable objects... What immutable means? Who the fu... I mean its easy...
And we make our own virtual dom because... Fu browsers"
-Facebook developer who hates javascript probably
P.S: thanks vue for keeping the double binding.2 -
I really want to like react but the more I use it the more frustrated I get, I'm sure it's great once you know it but right now I just want to throw my computer out the window
-
So the company that asked me to join them for work in a somewhat illegal way, has just sent me a small project to understand how I think inside a project in order to understand whether they should hire me or not.
I have a week to finish that.
It's only frontend, in ReactJS+Tailwind, based on a theme/framework.
I fucking despise ReactJS and specifically told them I much rather work on Angular.
I feel like
I'll just do this project at best, give it to them, wait until they give me the contract and they tell them they'd need to double my pay to have my ass.
Yeah, I just want them to waste time, just like they're wasting my time. -
Python is my wife, Elixir is my sexy girlfriend. While I love my life, the gf presents me what my wife cant. ReactJs/Rxjs is a lovely classic porn. The question is: what the fuck devRant is here???6
-
Javascript is actually a weird language which I dunno why I like a lot.
new Date() in NodeJS gives a different value, while new Date() in the browser console(so react js and normal js) gives a different value.
I dunno if my online searching skills are bad but I didn't find anyone addressing this online. Lol I had to create a manual work around for it then.7 -
Hey all,
Need some ReactJS help:
So I was able to redo a browser extension project to fit my needs for my browser proxy project, however for some reason, the original source code doesn't seem to know the Setup class for the setup page. Webpack is not the issue but it seems it can't find the exported class, which makes the browser extension unusable. I hope you can help with my silly screwup.

I really lost all hope :<1 -
I understand that front end frameworks are important when scaling an app/project but it’s not a necessity for small student projects.
Can someone make me understand how a student can make use of the frontend frameworks not just for the sake of learning it but the framework actually being a necessity4 -
My team for the uni project is quite big (8 people) and we need to create a progressive web app. The problem is I am the only one who know some JavaScript and I am not even good at it. Does somebody have tips how to learn web dev quickly?4

Can't decide whether I like React or not. Hated it in the beginning, then sort of started liking it and even thinking it was great just to fall back to the dislike stage again where I roll my eyes and think it's a messy, crowded pile of shit that breaks with all sorts of good software principles. This has fluctuated up and down for over 3 years.
It's the only language/technology/framework I have had this experience with. Weird.8 -
I am currently using angular from 1.5 years. With angular 2 coming to production i was thinking of moving to it.
But i have some questions:
I am hesitating to move because it encourages typescript over javascript. It adds 1 more dependency to my code ( code will break after angular updates and also when typescript updates).
I do not have any such problem learning vuejs or reactjs.
So, which one do i choose.4 -
There is a Facebook group I’m a part of called “ReactJS Expert Community” and I can tell you it’s filled with anything but experts. Someone just posted on it asking what the difference between Axios and async/ await is. The only reason I’m part of this group is so I can feel good about myself when I screw up while coding xP

i am assigned to a project for a short term and my job is to do refactoring of Reactjs code. and i need to do it in a really good way.
any help would be highly appreciated.
thank you.2 -
I have a question, let's say I have a website and app both using oAuth facebook login. Should I save the access token provided by facebook in my database and if I should, what will happen to the access token when user logins with facebook on website and then login again with the app? is that mean access token is going to be overwritten by new login? and do you have any other suggestions for 0auth integration?3

I am working on vuejs for a year
And every company offers me to work with them on Reactjs and i am unable to leave current job.2 -
Well I started learning REACT FUCKING JS because of our team requirements. I'm a Vue developer and well it's a little more complicated for me because react is way harder.
Today I started a simple project to practice react. First thing I realized was that in react project we cannot edit Webpack config by just adding a config file in project root.
WTF !
In vue we could just add few lines of codes in vue.config.js and then we were good to go!
but in REACT FUCKING JS we must install another library named Carco, which is not COMPATIBLE with latest react version!!!!!
FFS WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS FRAMEWORK20 -
So I am making a real time chat app using MERN and socket.io but I was disappointed to discover that the newer version of socket.io ie 2.2.0 fails overtime on Chrome.
There is an issue open on the socket.io repo addressing this. Didn't they fucking test the code for Chrome before releasing a new update?7 -
I wish there’s a better engine for parsing HTML for relevant content from a URL than mercury for free.
I was making a class project in react and that is not getting it done to my thing. 😑😑 -

Any ReactJS developer here? Just wanted to ask, how do you handle SEO with ReactJS SPA? Do you follow any tutorial to convert it to SSR? Or do you just use NextJS instead?
Thanks3 -
I got a new idea : I'm writing some python scripts to help me in my projects at school, I think it will help me a lot !
But I would like to code some scripts for my side-projects that are made using full JS.
NodeJS + Express + Sequelize for the Web API and ReactJS and HighlightJS for the client.
I would like to know if you could give me some ideas of scripts I could write for these JS side-projects ? -

Wrong place to say this, but I'm asked to work on a React-Native mobile apps, is there a need to mix native code with React, or do I only focus on the part of ReactNative components in the docs?
I do know ReactJs so far what I'm reading is familiar but don't know about mobile apps.
I must give an answer tomorrow morning, and SO will only bring me down if I ask there :)8 -
Noob question
I’m trying to deploy my front end web app (my personal website) to GitHub pages.
In my app, I used react environment variables to store a api key I need in my app.
When I deploy my app with GitHub pages, will the app still be able to access the react env variables?
Let me know if that doesn’t make sense. Thanks!7 -
I've not used linters on sublime text so far. And now struggling to find a good linter for sublime for writing React JS.

honest question: if I know ReactJS, Golang, Python, Typescript, and a bit of Postgres and living in Costa Rica, what sort of freelance services could I promote on the net?
I used to freelance on sites like PeoplePerHour, doing projects of 1 month in 3 weeks or less, but I would like to do that again in my own website under my own terms, sort of speak.
any recommendations?2 -
Is it just me or anybody else doesn't like the React render method. I really think it messes up the code readability.2

Quite confused between choosing one out of two job opportunities
Little background - I am currently working on my own startup/project. I have been thinking of taking a break from it, for now, for various reasons, pick a job, earn some more experience and money, and get back to my gig after couple of months.
18 months ago, I had to choose a framework. I decided to go with Vuejs, and I feel, I made the correct choice. My motive was not to select a framework for job market or prepare for job, but to learn the best framework for project ( Good learning curve, easy, and fast )
Just recently, I got internship opportunity at two good startups (one YC selected and one funded), one using Vuejs and other Reactjs, which will be converted into full-time job.
The advantage with vuejs startup is, I am good with vuejs and looking to use it in future also. But with reactjs startup, I will have to dive deeper in reactJs in coming 2-3 weeks, which I don't think I am going to use in future for personal projects.
Compensation of reactjs startups looks more than vuejs company. Around 20-30% more. Vuejs company had asked for 3 month internship, while reactjs company will decide to convert it to full-time in a month.
Have anything to say ??
*Vuejs is adapted from and bit similar to angular and reactjs*1 -

question to the web devs around. What is up with all these js frameworks these days ? backbonejs rxjs moustache js reactjs angular js knockout js ... do you guys wake up and decide to make another framework or is there a reason behind ALL of them ????9

Joined a new company as front end developer after working for a legal tech for 3 years. The codebase is shit here. There is this ReactJS developer who has done everything except for following standard code practices. No modularity, no reusable components. Some files go beyond 2000 lines of codes. It is a literal nightmare.
The worst part is, he does not understand that he has written the worst code. I dunno how to handle this now.8 -
Well this changes with time and types of projects but for now my favourite is atom especially with Babel for writing JSX for React
-
In the beginning there was Vanilla that generate HTML which felt in love with CSS .....it passes a long time thus this pure essences creates a lot of frameworks and libraries thus the time has passed and Angular make love with React saying each other "I LoVue" and thus generate Vue.... a Vue-tiful creature 😄1
-
Today I had a dream, not sure if I can call it a nightmare:
I was doing ReactJS + TypeScript. but no matter how much I try, I can't seem to match the type of the variable/object. The IDE ( WebStorm ) kept showing RED marks under the variables & I kept trying, but no solution!
& Finally I woke up at 3 am :|1 -
A new position is opened at my company and I am tasked to conduct interviews for the candidates. I have no experience whatsoever in this.
If you’ve had any experience, how did you approach this? How did you conduct technical interviews with the candidates? We’re talking about candidates that have 3+ years of experience.
The position is for front end, mainly ReactJS.8 -
How do i prepare myself for speaking at conferences like jsconf, reactconf, nodejsconf??

A few days ago, I thought, "I haven't updated React dependencies since. So, let's do it". Because, its gonna be a new demo app, I just ran "npx create-react-app my-app" and npm start inside the project. Holy cow!! It doesn't even start!!
Its showing this unknown error! So, I googled. but after trying a lot of "Solutions" it still doesn't work. So, I just gave up and thinking, "What about the Frameworks/Libraries build on top of ReactJS? Do the also have the same problem?"
So, I created a NextJS project and you guessed it, The same error exists in the NextJS projects. Then I tried the popular boilerplates created using NextJS ( and React) and Volla! They also contain the same error!
Ugghhh! I thought, tonight I'm gonna play with NextJS a little bit. But unfortunately, because of this React Error, I can't :(4 -
So the next Flutter event is on December 4th which means Flutter 1.0 is around the corner. Flutter is amazing with a very neat idea it has ReactJS like state management and everything is a Widget even the app itself. So i was thinking what else could we expect? React Native has Flutter, but what about React JS? I think Google might introduce a Competitor for ReactJS something like Flutter Web or FlutterJS which can work on parallel/similar to Flutter but for the web of course, and also maybe give some news on the Fuchsia. What do you think? :)5

I hate react, ok it is now a knows thing about me...
But i have to maintain a huuuuge app made on react.
And the old developer mixed the nodejs backend with the frontend... And it is already a russian doll mess in components, cuz he seems to develop it during 2 years and only after one year he discovered redux !
Gosh... For a lil simple feature there is so many files involved... Gonna go crazy !
Happy that at least client pay big money for that1 -

Why useImperativeHandle in React is bad?
I have component A. I have component B which is a child of A.
I have button in component A that should change how component B is displayed.
Usual approach is to set state in A, change it upon click and pass that state as flag via props to B.
But there is another approach via exposing ref to component B using forwardRef() + useImperativeHandle().
And then calling method that belongs to B from A. Like this: bRef.current.changeDisplay()
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
https://reactjs.org/docs/...
https://github.com/reactjs/...
People on SoF and Docs say that the first way is preferrable. But no one explain why.
Does anyone know why calling child method from parent is considered bad?4 -

Am i the only person who hates reactjs so much?
Jsx , so much nesting, unreadable code. U need to create lots of components and reinvent the wheel everytime u need to add a litle tiny feature. No global logic (controller)

Confusion is i know AngularJs, VueJS and ReactJs but i am not a frontend developer
who does CSS,LESS,SCSS ..
Always in doubt should i apply or not ...1 -
Hi guys, If you are front end dev (especially react dev) please read this and share your thoughts.
I recently started with react.js. But I didn't like the idea of nesting components. I know this is too early to talk about it. I'm not halfway through tutorials. But I'm loosing motivation to learn react.js
This never happened to me. I learned few frameworks in past. Django and codeigniter. They follow MVC/MVT architecture. And writing code in it looks cleaner and simpler.
In react JSX is confusing at first. You have to read same line twice or thrice to understand. I'm not saying JSX is bad, but it's not readable enough.
In early lessons I learnt that in react everything is component. And every component comes under one root component. Don't you guys think this well get messy for large application. You are dealing with number of nested components from one file into another.
I'm not against react. But the way react is forcing you to write code, is not something I enjoy. Let me know your thoughts. Maybe I'll get some kinda booster to continue react.1 -
Which Web-Framework is better, or which Framework will dominate the market in the future?
Angular2, React?7 -
Anybody here work with Firebase before?

Guys, am planning to work on a reactjs project. I learn by doing things so can anyone challenge me with an idea that involves using an API.5
-
Some of my first thoughts on the new 16.3 release of React...
New Context API:
- I’m glad they made the context API less scary, but as a redux user I will still be staying away from using context as a best practise.
Strict Mode:
- I like this a lot. React allows for great freedom in how you do things, but also offers the freedom to write some shit code that in the end does the job. A way to enforce best practises in JSX is good in my eyes.
New lifecycle methods:
- meh. Life moves on

Moengage is one of the worst analytics software I have ever worked with...
Integrating it into a react website is a pain in the ass, they don't have a npm package, you need to add a script tag to html file.
It also has a wierd bug that the service worker they mentioned in the documentation doesn't work when the debug logs are off.
Aaaargh. Now I have to make a service worker handler to import this service worker and see if it works... -
