Lost my iPhone last night😭 - looked all over but no luck - last chance the gas station - called and the owner said he found a phone with devRant sticker on the back. I still was not sure as lots of devRant members in NY but yes it turned out to be mine. Nice!
And the best news is the gas station owner told his dev son about devRant! So my temporary loss may change his sons life. Sometimes things are just meant to be. 😀

DevRant was just loading very slow because of bad mobile internet. I told my mum that this could be loading faster, because it's mainly text (= no large videos) that needs to be transferred. My mum answered:

One of the things that make devRant special is it's multicultural nature. Every time I see a photo, it is from another country and even with such different people, we all relate to the same things and that is, my friends, fucking dope. No other social network is like this. Props to devRant!2

A few weeks before, my neighbor came to me saying his wifi is hacked and someone is abusing it.
So I tried the wifi and found out there is no password. And the one who was abusing a simple open wifi was me XD.
So I set a password for her and disabled wps. But hopefully no one (expect devrant) will know I used that much bandwidth.2 -

So after fucking around with trying to setup pi-hole to block avatars in devrant, so I could just use it instead of a no-root firewall and accidentally deleting the devrant app data, I discovered this little option, let's pretend it was never there 🙄

For some reason, I lost my devRant subscription. No label anymore... but I'm also not charged anymore.
Subscribing again doesn't seem to work, there's a success message from the app, but not from the play store (I have a valid payment method and have other subs), no fees are charged and my account stays unsubscribed.

So the devRant android app does not seem to support this mail format:

(the important part being the "+devrant" thing)
Now I waited 2 days for a confirmation mail that wouldn't arrive and was greeted with the "please confirm your fucking mail" popup every damn time.
"Okay, let's just change my mail to user@domain and deal with it", I thought. Guess what: You can't!
So I contacted the devrant team via e-mail.
And I waited.
2 days.
No answer.
Okay.
Delete account, recreate with other mail, be happy.
Don't worry, I'm not mad. It's just really fucking ironic.

I think one of the weak points in the official devRant app is performance. That's probably due to the cross-platform stuff...
You see, if I shutoff 6 out of 8 cores on my CPU and force my GPU to only run at the lowest frequency possible, devRant gets HELLA laggy. However, games like Geometry Dash run just fine. No lag whatsoever.
It's not that bad though, just explains why devRant uses so much battery on some phones. -

Thanks for the reminder, wk17. To get unstuck: *pomodore*. Set a timer for 30 to 45 minutes, under which you are only allowed to concentrate on a single thing. No email, no looking up why your editor doesn't find declarations, no tuning of the red color of your terminal that is to bright, no compulsively opening devRant.
Time's up, do whatever for 5 to 10 minutes, and repeat.1 -

DevRant-Stats Site Update:
Made some changes.
After a long time with no updates, I decided to finish up my DevRant-Stats Project and do all of my Todos.
First, I added a way to request adding a user if he is not found. (Just search for your name, wait, then click "OK")
So even non-DevRant++ are now able to see their stats.
I also added @dfox and @trogus, though there is not a lot of interesting data yet...
Second, I added a "Details" section and changed the "Other" section a bit. For example I'm using an image for "Latest Rant" and other stuff.

Just disabled JS in my browser. It required adding devrant to allowlist though, but otherwise so far so good. Especially on garbage sites like wired: no more popups, no cookies, no tracking, no yOu'Ve ReaChEd yOuR dAiLy lImIt bs…1

Ok so I switched from iPhone SE (1st gen) to iPhone 12 mini.
And no crashes in devRant so far...
With the old phone, it was crashing sporadically when I was opening a rant.

Two questions about devRant itself:
- Is the overlapping element on purpose (anti normie filter maybe) ? Of course not, but am I the only one having it, knowing I have it since day one ?
- Is there no option to change password, or I'm just blind ?

It’s been at least a year since I was last on devRant properly. I’m neck deep in a big project with one week to go and about 5% of the CodeBase built. I have no other team members on this project and absolutely cannot miss the deadline.
It’s time to get on devRant again. -

No idea if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I feel it would be really cool if @dfox could public some kind of stats for devRant (anonymous, but on things like post count per day, topics etc...)

Is ASP.NET Core a good web framework to start with. I have no experience with backend web development but I know some C#2 -
Thought about startup.. Strange but literally saying no single coin had in my pocket.. Still have love for startup.. But u know what no project no idea no team.. Still struggling for startup.. Fortunately few days back got proposal of govt project.. One min game literally coin replaced his face.. But after some days grant procedure issue pending sucks.. Still have love for startup.. Suddenly got a thought can I do it after grant but I know I have devRant support.. So still continue to love for startup ;-)

Devrant app getting really slow in terms of loading. Content opens after 3 - 4 trials of restarting the app. Otherwise just connectivity issue or blank screen(with no loading). Anyone else facing it?13

Apparently when people with no avatars show up in notifications, devrant defaults then to a single random? Avatar. Changes though every few 30sec/refresh?

Apparently I'm super narcissistic and enjoy reading my old rants and the responses to them. A lot. And I'm browsing through, clicking, reading all the old comments (you guys are really great, I love reading your comments) and I realize at the bottom of the list of my rants theres no pagination, no infinite scroll. It just ends at the bottom.1 -
Why am I no longer getting push notifications from Devrant? I really miss those.
Having to open the app to check for notifications is not as rewarding.

Ever since I stumbled upon devRant, I have learned so much about the developer community that I had no idea about before. I'm just a lowly undergrad with no real world experience, but this community has provided so much insight of what the real world is like. Thank you, devRant community, for this insight.1 -
The way devrant advertises Devrant++ makes it sound like they are a client with no money. "Ya, we can't pay you but it will feel good" but unlike a client it's worth it.

It's been a bit since I last used this platform, but I recently got a "new" phone (as in it's new relative to the one I've been using) only to find the devRant iOS app is no longer on the US app store. It doesn't seem like the tools used to create ipas from installed apps works on devRant (I believe they're built around 32-bit apps and we are way past that now) so now I just have this device with an app that seemingly no longer exists.

I noticed that there's no scroll position indicator on Android. Would be nice to be able to see exactly how far down I've scrolled and how much time I've wasted on devRant. Food for thought.5

When you just finished showering, scrolling through devRant... and suddenly water from your hair drops onto the screen, randomly tapping stuff and making everything unresponsive. Well, at least the battery is still.... oh wait no its empty. could this get any fucking worse.

How do you find a list of the different week topics? I use devrant through a browser and have clicked just about everywhere. I can find no list.

Everytime I open devrant, it starts from a particular rant page. No matter where I navigate and close/kill app,it still starts from same rant page. Anyone experiencing same?4
