Prof: alright class our topic for the day is all about TCP. What's TCP?
Me: Our topic for the day.12 -
Sometimes I get really annoyed when I'm with people and someone starts speaking loudly and changes a good topic :/8
-
Don't BS your managers or peers about your understanding of a topic.
It is okay to not know something. It is not okay to pretend that you do.3 -
**Colleagues Speaking about some political issues**
Me: Why what happened in that council?
Colleagues: Are you living under a rock or what?
Me: No, I have been living inside a shell. Why?
Colleagues: Stared for 5 seconds and continued with their topic.
I so badly want some programmers in my office ☹️4 -
How do you know your IT topic you are googling for is an advanced topic ?
1) There are no ads
2) The 5th result is from a PDF or from The American Constitution5 -
[Extremely off topic]
Hi, Michelle's back and alive. You probably don't remember me, but that's okay. :)68 -
Meetings all day. Latest meeting topic: "Why are we going to miss our deadline?"
Here's an answer : Stop with all the meetings and let me code!4 -
My professor once asked us to brainstorm a good topic for our IT seminar/workshop.
I suggested version control using Git.
She simply shrugged it off. She said she needed a topic that the class can use. WTF.1 -
Thanks @dfox
As a junior,
This week's topic is giving a lot of best advises to me from other devs..2 -
@dfox man, do you realize the amount of desks that have cleaned *for the first time* because of this week topic? 😅
I'm puzzled, what kind of lobby put you up to this?9 -
Mother of god, choosing a topic for today's security/privacy blog post is hard!
I have too much choice 😅23 -
On a holiday, Manager called for a sudden meeting to discuss an unimportant topic.
I pretended that my audio was not working. The meeting ended in 5 minutes and I went back to sleep.11 -
Our professor in operating system lecture, topic: multiprocessing, today: "Just kill all children".2
-
Shame on every developer who ever wrote a blog post about a complex topic that included only trivial examples!7
-
Don't be afraid to question senior devs as you go through your career. You'll learn a lot yourself, and any senior worth their salt will be open to the dialog. You'll learn a lot about the topic and potentially about the people you work with. Never stop learning and stay relevant with technology.1
-
I watched the news recently and they talked about cyber security.
To demonstrate "how serious the topic is" they showed a screen with a terminal and literally pinged google.com.
I thought that was funny7 -
German train notifies me 8 minutes in advance that my train is cancelled.
Yeah, so useful, thanks...
(I know off-topic but I’m pretty pissed rn)8 -
Do you guys also cant' stand it when you are forced to let someone explain something in a very basic manner to you when you already understand that topic very deeply?4
-
Talking to google assistant in Allo feels like talking to your that friend who has some random link ready for every damn topic.

Project for school: The answer in most cases is no. I feel glad I could make a documentary on this topic.25

Mom: My printer won't start. Can you FIX it?
Me: Mom, I am a coder, I don't know jack about hardware.
A week later....
Mom: My printer won't start. Can you FIX it?
Me: This question is marked as duplicate and closed as off-topic. 🤖
Hangs up.7 -
We need to be learning from other's mistakes. A good weekly topic would be "a time you really failed as a dev, and what you learned".4
-
when you actually start to understand something, that topic seems easier than you thought it was before learning
-
Why is it that everytime, as a back-end developer, I want to dive into a simple front-end topic or technique which can perfectly be done in plain JavaScript, I need 27 different libraries and packages according to nearly all tutorials..
It really crushes my motivation and is just ridiculous.6 -
I was at a meetup yesterday where the topic was PHP7. I'm frontend though went there because of my backend friend. I have one question. How the fuck do you guys understand PHP? To me it looks like total black magic fuckery. Respect to all my backend fellas!9

Next month I'm starting my master studies in embedded systems. Currently I have not any knowledge in this topic (made my bachelor in an other part of IT). Any tips or tricks?
Currently I'm starting learning C++ 😅13 -
Has anyone noticed that rants here have a pulse?
Yesterday was a VIM day. Today is windows-sucks day.
What's the tomorrow's topic? Anyone has an agenda?
*whoppsie, wrong tag12 -
Every time I search something on Stack Overflow, I get excited when it's word for word the issue I'm having. Giddy with excitement, I click the question and scroll down.
Every damn time "Question was closed due to being off-topic".
Even when it's totally on topic!
Anyone get this or do I have the worst luck on the planet?6 -
OMG ... please.

Amazing how one can easily browse the web nowadays...
A popup to allow notifications, that shitty cookie information, a subscription box and a fucking video that automatically starts playing while drowning my mobile internet.
Maybe I'll write another rant about the actual topic I looked up...7 -
So, apparently you guys are having some trouble understanding wk46.
When someone suggests the topic, you should not actually reply with a rant you'd post in that topic.
Keep the content and post it when the topic gets used.
(you'll also get more upvotes since it'll be a rant instead of a comment)8 -
Stackoverflow...asking for a framework to do X.
Question gets closed by 20++ nitpickers because "... asking us to recommend or find a book, tool, software library, tutorial or other off-site resource are off-topic"
Scroll down 1 inch to find really useful answer.3 -
My process (still going on):
*Pick a topic/language/anything.
*Read up as much as I can until my eyes start glazing over.
*Try to implement something.
*Screw up.
*Feel bad. Repeat until screw-ups reasonably reduced.
*Success???2 -
Non developer boss gets excited and praises your talent in writing a simple gui app. Gets angry when you refuse to write an algorithm to semantically infer the topic of discussion from a given text.1

Yesterday I learned there was a chat feature in StackOverflow. I learned this because I finally for once in my life have StackOverflow reputation.
Discussing my excitement:
“Guess what topic it was.”
“Was it regex?”
“It WAS regex!”4 -
Didn't have any topic for todays call with the client, so I sketched some ideas on the whiteboard.3
-
PHP is the best framework for VSCode.
Now that I have your attention... Have you written a technical article? I'm thinking of writing something frontend related but not sure what topic to pick.
I'd love to hear about your experience and any tips you may have :D11 -
Analyzing code from stack overflow until i get it, before i use it.
that way you can pick up lots of useful features about a language or deepen your understanding for a topic, especially when you're just getting started.3 -
That moment when you start spotting mistakes in blog articles regarding some new topic you're currently studying5

Currently literally sitting in a meeting about meetings. Like for real, the topic the last 15 minutes has been what the difference between 3 of the daily team meetings is.
Then the dumbass who booked this for two hours says about one of the others "an hour is long"4 -
Alright ladies and Gents, i find this topic very interesting but who cannot code without listening and who cannot code without silence
If your in the music listening category, what music genre hits that coding sorcery zone for you?22 -

Team members to me: we are always there for you. Ask anything you need for.
Me(today): can you please discuss this topic with me?
Team member A: I'm sorry I'm busy
Me: okay
Me: can you please discuss this topic with me?
Team member B: I got to catch the train now.
Me: we catch same train. Let's discuss during the commute.
Team member B: NO. We will not get two seats together (it's easy to find two seats).
me (in my mind): I really need help here.
Me: okay2 -
Finally found my topic for the 10 min presentation :
Network protocol security
After giving an overview , i'm gonna talk about http , ftp , telnet , netbios and showing them a sample packet and how easy the username and password can be found if these protocols are used.
Any other recommandation?5 -
Had my first interview for a cyber security gig.
1st round, preliminary questions about ethics in a security related topic, etc.
I wrote a report about that topic, but for some reason brain fogged the answer.
At the end of the interview, I also blurted out that I found the interviewer's presentation at a past conference and really liked it.
Pretty sure they now think I'm a creep.
That being said, it's been a few years since I've interviewed, so it feels great to get the dust off, even if I bombed it
Practice makes perfect, right?!2 -
I have a presentation which takes 10 min and must be about anything relative to computer .
Since the other students are very stupid , I might not choose a very advanced topic ( after thinking about encryption i realized this)
So i need help!
What is your recommandation for the subject?17 -
Conversion topic: a security feature the PM doesn't like
PM: but WordPress doesn't do this.
Me: yes but WP is hacked every couple weeks and isn't exactly a security standard!
Debate continues for 5 minutes... And I'm forced to remove the feature 😑 -
Work set up. As you can see we are blessed with lockable storage. Blurred bits give away the company name
I'll post my home set up later.2 -
Just to help out folks who find this week's group rant topic just as confusing as I did:

Is 10km/day walk going to help lose weight? How efficiently? What do you think?
I believe this topic fits developers' community very well :)31 -
1. Going off topic is rewarded with a lap around the office building
2. Second time, two laps
3. Disqualified, try again next week1 -
I am doing very well in a STEM PhD on a topic I don't like. I wish someone could hire me as a junior software developer instead. :(5

DevRant is so purely dedicated to ranting that if one has to talk about coding and development, he/she should tag it "off-topic".1
-
This post is now dedicated for a comment debate with the topic "Is Visual Studio Code an IDE?"
I 'll see myself out. Make the comments rain8 -
It takes so much effort to put a quality video on YouTube.
1. Researching
2. Scripting
3. Recording ( screen record while doing the hands on of the topic, drawing concepts on whiteboard + voice over )
4. Editing

Damn this week topic is hard.
I am gonna go with managing a team. I have to use the DRY SOLID YAGNI KISS on daily basis at non-dev tasks too.3 -
Don't get me wrong I love the weekly rants!
...but on mondays I just genuinely don't use devRant because reading about the same topic over and over again becomes boring so quickly.1 -
Microbiology, biochemistry, genetics.
Mostly reading some articles, parsing some ATGC, trying to understand topic from books.6 -

Today i went to winter seminar series of the university.
Mostly about machine learning and lots of topic i have no idea about :/ and a few about security which made me feel a lot better :))
Feeling so dummy and i decided to work on machine learning.
✌😃 -
Is it just my preview or are there more rants with the topic "lazy"?
It's almost like devRant is trying to tell me something. 😐 -
I'm actually starting to see my skills advance.. I'm able to be given a basic topic and do it as long as I have the formula or whatever is needed in my head or planned out

JoyRant build 17:
I’ve added the Weekly stuff to the app:
Browse weekly group rants and see the weekly topic of a rant.
Have fun 😊

I appreciate people making tutorials to help people learn, but please, please, please, choose a different topic than creating a task list next time.

Who here actually uses GoLang? I’ve thought about eventually adding it to my tool belt.
But while on the GoLang topic, what is it good for? I’ve heard it’s good for web backend but can it produce software too?question fuck me this is an actual cry for help why are you ignoring this i’m not okay go golang i just want to code i just want happiness who actually reads the tags29 -
Definitely not a rant.
After the OpenGL ranting (here and by myself), I wanted to share with you my joy to have achieved a little goal:

My TARDIS is spinning and moving into space!1 -
who else dislikes attending a meeting where the topic is discussing more meetings that will be happening.....1
-
@HampusMa
What does that mean?
Noticed it while on another rant but didn’t want to hijack the topic. I’m genuinely curious.15 -
So some notification types are broken again (at least ++ notifs are not), ++ counts don't update again, search finds next to nothing, and the weekly doesn't work properly either (I saw wk288 topic once but can't find it anywhere now).
It still works better than the thing I'm currently dealing with.10 -
@dfox, @trogus, would you consider adding the topic for next week to be "Near miss: how I almost lost all my code/data"?
It sould be fun, and people can also learn something. Like what not to do, how to recover and how to prevent this kind of stuff...1 -

I swear to god, the next time someone brings in sh*t to a meeting again that's totally off-topic, I'll grab a nerf gun and turn this place into a f*cking war zone!1

Why are some people incapable of reading documentation? THE "DUPLICATE RECORDS" IN OUR KAFKA TOPIC ARE BECAUSE ITS AN EVENT STREAM AND NOT A DATABASE. THIS IS LITERALLY ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THE GUIDE YOU ABSOLUTE MORONS.3

Part 2 Of the StackOverFlow rant.
He still didn't accept my answer and commented something that even I don't know what the fuck he wants. Maybe you can fix your fucking grammar and it'd be easier to understand and solve your issue. 1 Hour later guess what he gets downvoted to -5, Gets his question Closed for Off-Topic and I end up being downvoted too. WTF. I answered his questions and instead, I'm getting downvoted because I answered on an "Off-Topic" Question. I seriously give up on Helping other people because no matter ho hard i try it ends up being a waste of time and you get nothing in return... Fuck the StackOverflow Community.1 -
Boss tells me every other week to "set focus" on a completely different topic without loosing a word on the "top priority" the day before. Or he asks for the other (not finished) feature to be ready "in the next few" days/hours.
Yeah. A real sunbeam in dark times.1 -
This rant is to proof that we can start argument from any topic in devrant. So here's a topic:
C++16 -
My biggest personal challenge as a device? Staying on topic and meeting deadlines. I get too caught up adding bells and whistles because I want my work to be badass. So badass that I forget that I'm supposed to release it and not spend months working on adding features2

That moment when you are reading a book for tomorrow's exams,
suddenly want to find a particular topic,
and instead of turning pages,
say "Ctrl+F" as a Reflex.
Damn you Brain :/ -
Choosing to do my pre-thesis in something I'm not 100% interested in. This resulted in my partner wanting to do the actual thesis on his own (angering, but understandable), which leaves me hanging with no topic or evaluator 4 weeks before the deadline.
-
Can next week topic be "Your desktop parts and price" or " Story of your first desktop"?
I'm planning for my first custom built desktop 😁8 -
Stay the fuck on topic
The amount of dailies, sprint reviews or the likes I had where someone started to discuss super specific technical details that only concern like 2 out of the 12 people in the meeting is just insane -
Hey devRant people !
How are you ?
I’ve a question, do you know a website like FrontendMaster, CloudAcademy or LinuxAcademy but ... for backend stuff ?
EdX, Udemy and all are very good but I would like to find a platform specialized in this topic.3 -
Nothing worse that watching a tech talk where the presenter is accidentally condescending.
It's definitely a "know your audience" situation, but it's cringe worthy when explaining a really valuable topic. -
For some reason I find reading tech books a repelling activity. I'd rather spend longer hours googling SO issues, GH/GL tickets, reading blogs than reading a well recommended book on the topic.
But then again.. What is the difference between a series of blog posts and a book...? Not much of it. At least I cannot come up with how blog posts would be superior to a structured and many times reviewed book :) Many posts are lame or just skim through the topic. The same holds true with books too. So maybe it's worth getting that 200pages thin book instead..2 -
Manager: make some AI for this project it is simple.
Me: what are we talking about?
Manager: I want to get a report about any topic in our ERP just by talking to the software.
Me: 😓3 -
It depends, really. Sometimes it's a spontaneous urge, sometimes it's me drinking and coding whilst doing so.
Sometimes it's a lot of coffee as mentioned in another post commenting on this week's topic.
Regarding the drinking: for some reason my code works and I write more in less time.
Un-fucking-believeable.2 -
Version control is important... But holy shit I'm having an anxiety attack from this: https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/...2

Have my final exam tomorrow.
Main topic is expert systems (XPS).
I don't know jack shit, but I don't care at this point.
Good night.5 -
Today’s topic in my Computability & Complexity Class:
The Halting Problem and The Undecidability Results
...sounds like my life2 -
Quick tip:
When an answer in SO has more upvotes than the question, has so many comments, and has so many explanation, so many code, and so many links, IT HAS A HIGH POSSIBILITY THAT IT IS A TROLL.
God damn i hate when programmers don't have any humor, and leave a comment saying
TROLL. PLEASE STOP THIS. FUCK
Good thing, devRant is full of people who HAS humor. Thank goodness.
tl;dr gone off topic -
I was searching for explanations to the topic quantum physics, when I found this website...
Anyway they insinuate what they want to do...3 -
As I've mentioned in a company-held course about this topic: Construction work noises.
I quote:
"Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."
At least there's earphones that help prevent this from ever reaching my ears. -
Trying to find if there is a bug on Devrant.
I'm calling the herd (meaning a group of Devranters I added on a list for a specific topic).
If you are on the list and didn't receive a notify, please tell me so I can report it.15 -
!rant (Feature idea)
Rant Rooms!
Each room has a topic as it's title, and this room acts like a group chat. Individuals can join public rooms and rant about the specified topic. Or, private rooms can be created and the creator can invite people to this room.
Perhaps timeouts could be set so that after a specified amount of time without activity, the room expires and disappears.
Probably a shit idea but figured I'd mention it 😂4 -
I meet a CEO of a company. Having attitude like he knows everything. And give speech on any topic. But speech won't match the topic at any condition.
I meet him I asked what project do u have and all.... He showed me some website projects... With source code it was fine to me...
The thing is before showing the website project. I asked him in which backend language Website are developed...
Answer: php. I ohh php ok.
And he suddenly replied we have also used HTML & CSS.. 😵 😵 I was shocked I thought wtf?? how can a website can be developed without HTML & CSS...3 -
I just startet my masters in CS and I‘m still unsure if I should switch to IT-Security.
Our university plan in CS include some completely off topic stuff, like economics.3 -
Guys! Have you ever been so roasted with your family conversation that you are really pissed off but there's no way out. The matter of dignity you know. But guess what... The topic going on is Python! Don't need a way out🙄😛5

While the topic is a bit divisive, the statistical technique highlighted in this post is really cool:

How did you all get into development? I've heard some pretty non-linear career trajectories from friends of mine, but I'm not sure if that's normative for developers as a whole. Your thoughts?13 -

Just had a meeting about performance and monitoring. The main topic of the meeting was to be aware of disk space usage. If there are issues with memory leaks or processor hogging don't worry those are fine, just give it more.1

Hey folks!
! Do not read further or open this rant if you are likely to be offended!
I always wanted to know but had no nice way to ask so I'm just gonna shoot.
Most of you must have worked/be working with foreign people: canadians, french, chinese, etc. How would you describe those people as colleagues [e.g. lazy, stubborn, chatty, etc.]? The goods and the bads would be perfect.
The topic is sensitive. Please be polite but sincere. This question nor its answers are not meant to offend anyone. We all have our cultural differences, we all have been taught different. I'm just wondering what could I or anyone else expect from each foreign teammate.15 -

-
Is it just me? When coding I can be in deep thought of how to best write a function and then next minute I find myself thinking about socks or some other random topic. Brain why you do this to me!
-
This is not a rant. Not really. It's more expressing my own insecurity with a certain topic, which somehow upsets me sometimes (the insecurity, not the topic though).
I have nearly no knowledge about security/privacy stuff. I mean, yeah, I know how to choose secure passwords and don't make stupid DAU mistakes. The very basics you would expect someone to have after a CS bachelor's degree.
But other than that... Nothing. And I would like to get a bit into that stuff, but I have no clue where to start. First getting my head wrapped around low-level stuff like network layers? Or something completely else.
This topic is so intimidating to me as it seems huge, I have no idea where to start, and I feel that if you don't have "full" knowledge, you are going to make mistakes which you might not even notice.
I sometimes get really scared about having an account hijacked or similar. Also in our job it seems to become more and more of a topic we should know about.
Anybody got any advice?
I am looking for a way to improve my knowledge in security in general for professional reasons and my knowledge about privacy for private reasons.
It's just, every time I start reading something related it seems that I am lacking some other knowledge etc...10 -
When you are right and in conflict with someone on some topic and they don't have guts to accept their mistakes but only to shame you for some reason, bring them down and fuck them up
-
You know when you are interested in a topic or have a question, and you find it on stackoberflow or hacker news, but it is from 754 days ago ...
You are left wondering, should I leave a comment here or create a new thread ...1 -

I am currently in the works of designing, building and extending an CRM/MRP system for production lines.
But for some reason I cant seem to find ANY modern sources, papers, books, forums, threads for context on this topic. It’s as if this topic doesn’t exist.
(One thing to point out is that there are sources for business wise analytics but am looking design wise)
I am starting to think that i am not googling it correctly (what a boomer).
Do you have any magic sources, captains of devrant?10 -

- before making a meeting, make sure it really is required. If the meeting consists of a single person talking 90% of the time, write an E-Mail instead -
I just heard about "Julia Programming language" where they're kinda combining speed of C and usability of Python into one language. Just wanted to ask how big is it? Does anyone has anything to share on this topic?4

Writing my master thesis at my company, theoretical computer science, doing fancy shit with scheduling rules. but am just a "working student".
Realized, that all my project member, also other colleagues, standing right behind me at a Whiteboard, discussing that part of the project I am the expert of, as this exactly is my topic.
They were asking very new team member about my topic, but they know nothing, just guessing how this could be.
Nobody did even think about asking me.
So I continued working on what they thought "nobody has knowledge about at all". -

Bit off topic but...does anyone ever shut their laptop down? Or do you just close the screen once you're done for the day and continue from where you left off the next?6

Grinded 5 days with another guy to finally get today our six linked star forge, shaper melted like a piece of butter in a steel furnace. Beautiful wrapup to a great lan party and now back to the real grind, php and c#. -
So I thought of applying for masters, mainly coz work's been boring af -_- i'm not having Fun. like. at all.
Masters in CS would need a research topic and the one I was/am interested in is "WebRTC", with the topic being tryyyying to figure out a way to hide the actual Peer IPs and come up with a Standard 2.0 of WebRTC or a derivative standard
I was looking into Research Papers already written on WebRTC to get a feel on what's already been attempted or tried
And omfg the word-vomit :v
The whole paper had 0 substance and their "research" was that "we'll encrypt Packets with SHA256 so it'll be secure" like bruh -_-5 -
Aren't we, software engineers, the whiniest sort out there? Jira ain't good, Redmine ain't good, nothing can satisfy our needs for lack of commitment towards project administration. 😂
I just catch myself sometimes writing obscene amount of hours in timesheet under "US management in Jira" topic or similar. 😂2 -
Hello guys, I've got a short question because I need a little guidance. I need to write a thesis to obtain my bachelors degree and I thought about writing the blockchain. Because the topic needs to be more specific I thought about writing the blockchain and it's use in the financial market. Apparently my professor wants an even more specific topic for the thesis. Have you guys got any clues ? Ideas for me ... I would appreciate that a lot :)12

There should be a ***rant for every aspect of life, such as socrant (rants on society and politics), famrant (rants on how much family life (or to all singles out there, the lack of a family) sucks (or rocks) sometimes) and conrant (rants on all sorts of consumer products/services). Not to forget, the most important of all, trarant (traffic rant, about the rich diversity of stupidity among both drivers and pedestrians).1

When you generally have bad day, and they are lots of lots of really minor annoyances that ultimately drive you pissed and you would want to make rant about it but at same time... you dont have solid topic becouse its just milion of minors, nothing major, day as usuall I guess...

!rant Java web framework?
sorry for the OT, if you are single (novice) web developer and you had to choose your first web java framework, what would you pick?7 -
Is the grouprant broken for anyone else? Question and tag never seem to match for me, for example, this week it says "Tips for staying productive" / "Add tag 'wk247' to your rant", but it is linked to https://devrant.com/search/..., which is obviously a different topic.1

Math for Computer Science Majors professor is going on and on about calculating probability as if I never heard of the topic before. I took probability theory last semester!! I am so not interested in staying on Zoom with my camera on :(1

Why: well that is why this topic comes to soon, I can't disclose anymore than there is on the website for now, release will hopefully be this month.
It is pretty awesome. It deserves to be called next generation. -

When you're writing a fucking test tomorrow about DSL and your fucking teacher is teaching a new fucking topic ONE FUCKING DAY BEFOR THE FUCKING TEST AND THAT TOPIC IS VPN AND ITS COMPLETLY IRRELEVANT TO YOUR FUCKING TEST! And worst of all: we are writing 2 other tests on Operating Systems and LCD Displays too! WHAT THE FUCK HOW SHOULD I LEARN ALL THIS SHIT7

My wife now punishes me by taking things I like out of my diet....rude2 -
A few days back I wrote one blog on 'Be a Happy Developer' topic. Later on, I figure it out that I am the most boring developer among the developers I know.
-
I googled the topic I was interested in (a topic that I never worked in) for personal research purposes. I found the call for applications online, but I was 10 days late. I sent mine anyway, one month later I had the job.
I'd call it a mix of sheer luck and trial-and-error. -
Upon every mention of the term SCRUM my mind is instantly pulled off topic onto rugby... damn you homonyms..

Some competitions are so unorganized.
So me and my team went for this national level technical paper presentation competition. Our topic was a cyber security topic and they put us under Mechanical branch even though I had informed them about this discrepancy two weeks back. Apparently the girl whom I complained to wasnt on the organising committee although she was the one who was promoting this competition in the first place. Sheer irresponsibility!!3 -
I want to learn about the most important network protocols (HTTP 1/1.1/2, SSH, IMAP, SMTP, IMAP...) but reading the RFCs is extremely time consuming and probably not necessary for someone which doesn't need to implement these protocol.
Do you know more concise resources where I can learn more about the topic?9 -
I like this week’s topic, since I’m currently wondering whether or not to study software engineering. Currently working as a software developer, uneducated, but kind of want to build onto it. Any advice from you novice DevRants?7
-
Ahh yes. Thank you professor for assigning me a research topic on a framework that hasn’t been updated since 2016. I’m sure it will work perfectly fine. (It doesn’t)1

"asked 7 mins ago", "closed 4 mins ago" + "Update the question so it's on-topic for Stack Overflow." - edit, but hurry up before we close! This must be Stackoverflow's new welcoming culture then? (not my question, but somebody else's, closed for not being on topic, but could have happened to me as it did several times in the past)11

I subscribed to "Web Development" topic in Twitter and I only get tweets about Javascript.
Is this a sign?3 -
Told junior to study a certain topic and send them the docs of the library we use for that.
Junior told me that they knew the topic and it was just a matter of refreshing it. On standup, they proceed to say that they are studying that topic, but then a few days later, ask me “is it okay that I’m studying this instead, it uses the same syntax [proceeds to send me a link for a library with a completely different syntax than what we use, that is actually incompatible with the project]”
🫠 am I expecting too much from humanity by thinking that someone would at least wonder if a library is being used ?1 -
When you ask "this topic was change or just renamed" and got an "yes" as an answer.... I never know what to do...3

Is there a huge difference between IPS and Backlight LED Displays? Anyone got some experiences regarding this topic? -
are there sites where i can find expert devs , and like hire them for providing me resources on a particular topic?
I am not talking about freelancing sites where they charge mney for making a product. But rather a site, where i will hire a person providing me with their copyrighted/ "non copyrighted ,gathered from the internet" content for a topic that i will provide???
fuckkk, i am sick and tired of looking into google's sick ass half open sourced half proprietary content with jillions of classes and design patterns.5 -
List the top books you consider fundamental to your software engineering knowledge and abilities. A book that really made you improve. Anything, up to you. The point is that without it you would be worse off.
Any topic. Systems design, DSA, security, architecture, doesn’t matter.6 -
Trying to become a software developer by teaching myself with tutorials, books, etc. and then realizing that I need an idea for a project to practice my skills. I don't have a good grasp of software architecture and the tutorials on the webs on this topic suck.

Oh a long day of reproducing a series of summarized videos about not so much my favorite topic but one that is constantly on my mind
Third time at least -
Stuck in a meeting right now, which diverged from a parenthesis meant to comment a digression of the main topic. Wish me luck guys, I'm here for the afternoon

A good conversation should be like a mini skirt long enough to cover the topic and short enough retain interest2

I think medals would be nice to have on devrant. Awarding medals for special occasions might stimulate people. Thought of this after seeing @retnikt's post about his topic being chosen for w46. Something like that would be medal worthy i guess.

There are some people who do not want to talk about death. Others will simply talk about it out of curiosity. But sometimes, such a tragic subject can also bring out the best in you when it comes to writing. Let us talk about writing a death essay. This subject can be considered a good topic especially if you do not have one yet.
One important thing that you must know before we talk about the topic is the essay structure. By now you should already know the parts of a formal essay and what their functions are. In any case you need to input the introduction, thesis statement, body paragraphs and the conclusion. Now let us take a look at some possible topic scopes for your death essay.2 -
