You know the truth about young people?
It’s goddamn hard to be a young person these days, or millennial or whatever the fuck they’re calling it now. So give em a break.
It always has been hard, but this time is different. Let me share a few stories:
-my friend said half the time if he walks up to women in a bar and asks their name he gets yelled at because “if I wanted to date you I’d be on tinder.” A few of those times he had no romantic intentions even.
-Amazon and eBay=instant gratification. This stunts mental goal development, and makes transitioning into professional life stressful.
-online dating particularly tinder means people have option fatigue and inflated expectations. Very hard to connect with people personally.
-Facebook shines everyone’s accomplishments in your face, and it’s one thing to be bombarded with that when you’re married and working a good job and emotionally adjusted, it’s another to be pelted with it while in emotional turmoil.
-amplified by the global economy and global social/professional bubble, the world has more people that you can be face to face with now than it ever has.
-global competition, easy to feel inadequate when you haven’t established yourself in a career or adjusted to professional environments.
-social media is a dopamine addiction that companies are actively seeking to hook you on, it’s very alluring and difficult to exist when everybody is doing it and universities and jobs want you to do it, and the consequences of it are purposely hidden from the users. Very difficult to break.
-another consequence is young people are then pelted with advertisments that usually have a negative message and are way more powerful than people realize, considering they seem so harmless on the surface.
-regular young person problems, the older generation doesn’t like the attitude and sometimes it’s hard to get taken seriously at work.
-victim culture, I can attest, watching everyone lust over being a victim is contagious and it poisoned me for a long period of time as it has many others, and thinking of yourself as a victim instead of taking charge of your circumstances does massive collateral damage to emotional and mental health. And it’s not being talked about. It took me years before I even realized that I was doing it, and even longer to stop. I STILL slip up.
-Raised in a culture of participation consolation prizes, and as people graduate college they’re slapped over the face with reality as they realize that there are real failures and even though those failures can still amount to something, there is no consolation prize.
-parenting strategy of “everyone is special” and then realizing when you get old enough that you are unique but there are still others like you, and you are not special in the way you always believed.
Technology is changing our lives for better or worse, and we need to pick the direction it’s going to take us. This is why so many people are struggling with anxiety today.
So if you work with young people, be nice to them and try to think about how you can say something to them that will help them adjust to some of these challenges, rather than thinking of them as weak. They carry a lot of weight on their shoulders, weight that a lot of people don’t take seriously. They can overcome it, but not with people beating down on them.137
I'm lacking a rubber duck at my office. I asked for one, but the company won't buy one. Instead they offered me a 1m x 1m sheet of bubble wrap, which they replace every day. Love my new place.17
Meeting with smooth suit guy:
"So, our company has pivoted"
I hate everything about this guy, not having slept well at all, I fucking snapped:
"Pivoted? Oh wow, what a wonderfully refined word to describe that your asinine business model smacked flat into the mud, that your obtuse bubble of vague ideas popped and your childish dreams of piles of undeserved gold got caught up by the hard reality that your product does not add any tangible value -- yet you tricked your sheepish retarded investors once again to fall for a new hype-filled pitch deck? Congratulations. At least you probably snort enough coke to keep believing in yourself..."
The guy nervously wiped his nose, stuttered, and walked off looking angry and a little confused.
So it turns out, my boss is apparently the major "sheepish retarded investor" in this company.
Today I got a mail from him. I expected fire and fury, nuclear ICBMs crashing into my desk.
"Thanks for your feedback, this is why I invite you to meetings. Could you take a look at their new pitch slides and preliminary API docs for me?"15
Me: *opens a terminal in front of parents and starts a build script from command line. Logs start rapidly flooding the screen*
Mom: *whispers to dad proudly* “look at how much she has worked. Look how fast the lines are running on the screen!!
I didn’t wanna burst their bubble by explain them that their child is NOT doing any rocket science, and is something even they can do(maybe better).
So I responded back with a fake serious tone
“Yeah it’s all code.”
If only they knew what I was actually doing...12
Went to a shop to buy bubble plastic envelopes (gotta send something carefully).
Walked out with a new Bluetooth music headset, couple of charging cables, Ethernet cable and a music input splitter and also those envelopes.
Why am I like this 😓21
That was my productivity falling out a window. I just found a shit load of bubble wrap lying around!
Safe to say, productivity efficiently ruined.19
Today was different at work. It felt as if something was missing. The circle of fun at work that was developed over last two months among few of us was gone overnight..
Two months ago, we ( 7, including our PM ) were shifted from our cabin space to this special room by boss in hopes to keep our ass under fire and increase our productivity. Everyone in the office saw this room like a concentration camp as it was next to boss 's office. Nobody liked the idea of working in that room. We were seen as prisoners as we walked into our work cage.
In the cage, there is a fixed table. We had to adjust our workspace around that table. Everyone was just an arm length away from each other. It didn't take that long to form a bond among us. Some of us would bring snacks and we all shared it and ate it there. We had fights and discussions. The girl in my team and other team would have silly fights about their legspace boundary. The guy who is on a quest to find his life partner would seek for our opinions about his matrimony findings. That time the girls roasted guy about his patriarchal attitude. Instant discussions on current events. Movie reviews and sharing about various life experiences. Lots of such memories were formed and shared over last two months while we worked in there.
For me, it felt like living "The Office" in real life. It was amazing. I was starting to forget my dreams of self employment and plans to resign career because this human connection was addictive. We all learned a little more about each other which otherwise would not have been happened outside the cage.
We didn't realize the bubble and dynamics we had formed in that room until it was gone today when we were shifted back to our cabin space.
It was obvious we were little sad inside having to say bye to our bubble.
Hey Mm...Morty. What are you doing?
Oh gee Rick, I’m just...you know...using Linux and telling the internet how that makes me better than them.
Morty, you rr...realize that it...it...doesn’t matter what OS you use Morty. Y...y...you’re still a piece of shit Morty. I can prove it...burp...mathematically Morty. In the grand scheme of the universe...y...y...you are a bubble sort algorithm surrounded by quick sorts Morty.
Oh gee Rick.15
Not sure it counts as data loss, more temporary corruption (and in my own brain).

MFW first bad trip ever.
MFW I wonder whether that family knew I was there and were scared / discovered the mess in the bathroom the next morning and not knowing which is worse.
MFW I still have the towel because it’s fluffy AF.
The moral of the story kids, is that when it comes to the OS rattling around in your brain, installing a virus that is sensitive to what apps you have running is a bad idea when those apps make the virus go to fucking town.
Terrible analogy I know, but fuck it.37
My friend had the bright idea of making a version of bubble sort that plays a quacking sound effect on every swap. I added in different variations of the same sound effect for various conditions.
We named it "Quacksort," and one of the professors asked us to present it to the intro class.
My career has reached its peak.4
I competed in two competitions Computer Security and C++ Programming and I got 6th in Security and 1st in C++!!12
THERE HAS BEEN A SLIGHTLY BIG SPIDER IN MY ROOM SINCE YESTERDAY AND YESTERDAY IT DISAPPEARED THE LITERAL SECOND I FUCKING SAW IT IT DISAPPEARED. I SHIT YOU NOT IT JUST VANISHED. AND THIS SPIDER IS A BLACK FUCKER AND MY DESK, MONITORS, TV, HEADPHONES ARE ALL BLACK SO IVE BEEN REALLY PARANOID. AND JUST A FEW DUCKING MINUTES AGOI WAS WATCHING A VIDEO AND I FELT SOMETHING IN MY RIGHT HEADPHONE AND SLAM JAMMED MY EAR AND THREW THAT BITCH AS HARD AND AS FAST AS POSSIBLE TO THE POINT I HAD TO SIT THERE AND COLLECT MY THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED AND I DONT EVEN KNOW IF IT WAS EVEN THERE OR IF IT LEFT THIS FUCKING ASSHOLE IS SCREWING WITH ME I AM ONE STEP AWAY FROM JUST BUYING A GUN TO SHOOT THAT LITTLE FUCK33
- AI/ML will be creeping into absolutely everything in some way, shape or form
- Developers of every shape, size, background and skillset will continue to be the most in-demand talent on the planet, likely leading to a huge bubble that's gonna fuck us eventually.
- JS will continue to dominate everything, NPM will probably encounter some form of MAJOR major outage that halts most of the globe's development + deployment processes, sparking the creation of another registry which will lead to the holy wars of the registries
- Web devs will continue to be stuck supporting IE8.
- Java will probably die out, maintenance halting completely unless you pay Oracle extortionate amounts of money, like single handedly paying every Oracle employee's salary extortionate.
- There'll probably be another big hype on the scale of Docker/k8s that you have to learn because you'll be unemployable without it
- The year is 2078 and WordPress still supports PHP 5.2, that fucking cockroach will outlive us all I swear
- Haters gonna hate
- React gonna react
- Angular gonna... Math?4
Today I used a debugger for the first time and holy fuck it's magical why didn't I do this sooner..8
So devRant shows me a frontpage feed based on my ++/--/follows/etc.
Does this mean there is a niche bubbled hidden corner, some place where some dev is currently looking at his feed thinking: "Wow everyone agrees with me, Windows is much better than Linux, VBscript is amazing, and Git is for tryhards who hate on dropbox for no good reason"
By now, that bubble and mine have drifted so far apart that they will never meet again, and if you see this specific rant, you will not ever see that content again either.
For all you know, the majority of devs love changing requirements and clients who call them in the middle of the night, the consensus is that testing is for noobs, and everyone loves jquery.
You will never know, because you clicked ++ on the wrong rant, right when you signed up, and forever sealed your fate.17
Stupid shitheads among the web designers, fucking listen up. Your fucking design is not the point of websites - the content is. You are not supposed to shove the content away to have your moron design shine in its purest debility.
Yeah I know, white space minimalism yadda yadda, clean interface - and you dumbasses just remove functionality to simulate a clean interface, to the point of using hamburger fuckups on desktop. Pull your heads out of your asses, that's not how to design an interface! Not to mention that you idiots still guzzle through the megabytes and dozens of domain lookups for your chickenshit minimalism.
While we're at it, not everyone is 20 years old like you youngsters - you won't believe it, but there is life beyond 40, and while such age is unthinkable to you because you are so dumb that you will hardly reach that age anyway, others on this planet have managed to get there. No 20/20 laser sight, you know.
Fuck you with your light grey thin fonts on white background because it looks "clean", it just SUCKS you wankers. Fuck you with your stupid ghost buttons that don't even look like a button. You know how to operate the shit you made, but reality check here, users spend most of their time on fucking other websites than on the abomination you have designed!
Get that into the shit bubble that you call your brain and read WCAG 2.1! That's not only for disabled people, but everyone will be able to use that shit better!6
During the 2008 United States Presidential Campaign, candidate Barack Obama was asked to perform an impromptu analysis when he visited Google.
Google Chief executive Eric Schmidt jokingly asked him for “the most efficient way to sort a million 32-bit integers.”
Obama had apparently been tipped off, because he quickly replied, “I think the bubble sort would be the wrong way to go.":)2
Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake. But that’s bullshit. Debugging is actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with. About knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you, to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you’ve secretly known all along.
We are currently doing procedural programming in an OOP language. "Only write code inside the main function" Here, have my bubble-sort function in your face.2
My own programming language (still WIP). I got SO excited when I found recursion worked, I even got the simplest factorial recursive function wrong. And then again, once arrays worked, bubble sort it was. I shit you not, once I saw all the numbers printed in order, I had to stand up and walk or I would have jumped out of the chair in excitement.
In case someone is interested, I use LLVM for the backend.4
My favorite languages are
1. Python (3)
Honorable mention: C++
Can anyone agree?42
Edit: IM ALSO FUCKING RETARDED41
So im getting pretty good at python, so can anyone offer me some basic projects I can attempt?
Oh and it's my birthday today! (August 4th) I'm 18!13
I get pissed when somebody takes me out of my coding mindset for something minor. A deep bubble of abstract thought gets popped so that I can be told that we'll be eating dinner in an hour. I then have to start my thought processes from scratch.
This is why I can't get any work done during the daytime, and why I do all my coding at night.
This comic depicts this issue perfectly.3
Had to setup 7 HP laptops today for a small hackathon.
Install windows 10...
just shout in the room and hope all cortanas hear the same answer.
done after a couple minutes.
Windows 10 rules.
This story could be over but no, have a plot twist.
All pcs connected to our wifi network as we tried to install Chrome ( cause edge sucks), realized it takes hours to install.
someone drawing internet over here?!
our network wasn't that bad usually.
opens windows store on one laptop by accident.
42 downloads running.
Yep on all of them.
what were they downloading?
candy crush... bubble witch saga...mcaffee.
spent about 4h uninstalling bloatware and teaching windows not to reinstall it over and over again...
and I didn't even mention the "tell us why you think you don't need McAfee premium protection pl0x" and "you really sure you don't want to try edge as default browser? is really fast and stuff" dialog fields...11
Dad: [this company] is coming to town soon.
Me: I know
Dad: yeah maybe you can get a IT job
Me: I dont do IT
Dad: You never know what you do until you do it.
Me: *getting an aneurism from sheer ignorance*
I DO IT EVERY DAY HOW WOULD I NOT KNOW WHAT IM DOING THAT I EVEN WENT TO SCHOOL FOR?17
Definitly !rant; btw long post ahead
Soooo not so long ago i joined this community by chance just cuz i installed some app randomly found on google store and what can i say. Best decision ever!
I can say i never met such an interesting and diverse communitiy ever and i kin of ground fond of it (i usually dont get too attached to peoples).
After a while i felt the urge to get myself involved into some disscusion at some random post and i did it. But it felt empty as my image was just a plain green bubble of anonymity. But yeh, i am cool with it, i will customize it after some ++es. No problem!
I got incremented for a while and i got to make a simple generic avatar. I felt again a urge, but this time to customize even more. Sadly, anything cool needs approval by the people. Soo i kind of let it go as i am not really the kind to find myself talking in other businesses and i moved over.
Until i saw it! Not the tiger, not the bird but the dog! Annnd i wanted it so i made a joke that i am a wizard with an invisible dog. What can go wrong, right? Well the thing is.. it did not go wrong, as expected, but it went great, kinda unexpected.
How? Well, some random stranger felt me and gave me a hunble chance to get closer to my dreamy real dog. And so it begin, my crusade to get that damn dog!
But what i have realised fast is .. this is not facebook! Nor Instagram! People doesnot upvote attention whoreing or such lowly acts, but they are actually prone to support people who just.. get involved.
And so i did. I got involved. I actually got involved in a community! For a awkwardly introvert person that's something, but maybe more than few of you people can relate to this.
And today i finally reached that goal! I have a real doggo! Well, real as in not invisible, not as in a great responsability, but now i have both. But this was not such a big deal. The big deal is that i found people whos interests are alike to mine and are prone to help, support and befriend others. I must say, thanks to all! Wonderful time, and while i am not here for a long time, i will surely be!
Cheers and dev on!18
Im so fucking pissed. so in my family (im an only child) im the computer expert. but everytime i touch something EVERYONE THINKS IM GOING TO BREAK IT OR TELL ME I DONT KNOW WHAT IM FUCKING DOING. FUCKING EXCUSE ME?
I pick up the laptop and unplug it and she yells at me because the IT man told her it wouldnt work if she unplugged it. So i told her im done helping her with all her bullshit she can do what she wants. and comes in says it works now and she doesnt know why. then goes out and buys a new laptop bc she cant process moving her files on the cloud or a flashdrive.
my entire fucking family is like this.
S E N D H E L P .8
Who else uses Firefox over everything else? I switched from chrome recently and I don't regret it!27
Do you ever step out of your happy dev bubble and look at the news or read the paper or just talk to another human and wonder what the actual f*ck humankind is doing right now?12
This F***ing government college faculty crossed my complete answer of a F***ing bubble sort in 3rd year of Mathematics & Computing by saying and I quote, " Why is this i loop inside of j loop?" and after getting again on my feet after listening and understanding this absurd statement, I tried to explain to which he asked ne to show any book where it is written like this.
To i loop and j loop he meant the variable name in for loops, 🤬🤬🤬🤬
these f***ing reserved government professors in elite institutions like IITs15
Pulling apart ribbon cable is one of the most satisfying feelings.. Up there with popping bubble wrap.9
You wanted to hear more about my "glorious" teacher. I deliver. So get a cup of tea, take a seat and prepare for insanity.
As I already told in a comment my programming teacher is one special snowflake who lives in his personal bubble. We have final exams in less than a month and he spents at least half a lesson talking about vanishing bees and missing plants from his garden. Other topics he likes to talk about (and tries to turn every freaking conversation into at least one of these):
1. Other students and their stupidity
2. Diesel scandal
3. His sick wife
4. "Why does noone read newspapers anymore?"
5. Why he can't teach Java but really really really wants to and everyone hates him and forces him to do C#.
Even if I try to interrupt him he'll go on until he thinks we gained some "common knowledge" - this is how he justifies these topics.
Everytime he introduced us to a new command he compared it to Java and sometimes he even falsely corrects code because he confuses them.
We are only 6 people including me (another story for another time) and he is not able to help everyone during a 90min lesson. He normally sticks with one person for at least one hour and just talks to them or even do their tasks. This is really annoying if you have a simple question. He won't answer you until he's finished whatever he's doing.
Most of the time he doesn't seem to understand what he's talking about/trying to teach us. He's muttering statements from our textbook to himself switching halfway through to another sentence while drawing not decipherable shit on the blackboard.
Another gem are his "guidelines" for classtests. We are allowed to use any command we know. Except the ones we learned not in class. And the ones he doesn't like. And the ones he doesn't want to exist. And of course not the ones which make you're life easier. So basically we are bound to use his favourite commands or we won't get a good grade. Example: use an array. List is not allowed. Never.
He has some weird fetish with arrays.
I once presented him perfectly fine code I wrote in my freetime and asked what some warnings meant. (Was because of different Visual studio versions as I learned later.) He scolded me for using things he didn't taught us yet and ranted about how I'm pressuring him into rushing these things now - I never wanted to show this to my classmates nor was this anything else than a project for fun and learning something new. (FYI the "new stuff" where classes and objects because i was tired of kilometers of spaghetti code). His rant went on a good 20minutes and - obviously - he didn't answer my question. I asked my fiance that evening and he explained it to me.
This should it be for this time. I'm sure I have more stories to tell for another time!
Thank you for reading. ^^6
Been reading devRant for a while now and I have to say I'm sad about the way the future of the software engineering looks like. Everyone seems to have a lot of hatred towards certain techniques and/or platforms and sad to say, but you are missing a lot.
I have been in the biz for around 15 years and have worked on Win, Linux, Mac, Unix, Symbian, Embedded etc. using all sorts of tools and languages and I must say it has taught me a lot and given diversity on my career and I hope you could also open your mind and start educating yourselves. Theres a world behind your bubble!
Peace and love!13
So this is my homework, I have to convert Hexadecimal to Text! And I can also convert the Hexadecimal to Binary!! I LOVE THIS STUFF6
So I started teaching my younger cousin how to program in python and he's enjoying it a lot so far :)4
Idk man. I can't be the only one that thinks the new iPhone looks stupid, can I? It's too glassy and glossy. It looks like a makeup case or something my sister would use to hold mascara.
And WTH is with the border-radius on that bottom menu bar? Like, either choose to make it a background strip like a normal nav menu or leave it out, but don't just give me more of that weird recta-bubble shit.10
Okay so this is just a rant about my personal life because if I post it any where else no one will really care.
So I graduated from a vocational high school where I learned about basic IT and networking skills but I mostly focused on my programming. and I LOVED that school honestly the environment was so amazing and everyone and everything about it was amazing. then I started college recently hoping for the same thing and its just depressing me, and my depression is coming back and I cant stop it because I cant distract myself from it. My friends are always off playing Monster Hunter Ultimate and Im just wishing theyd hop back on Warframe so we can play again.. They say they will but they really wont so im usually just playing alone or going online which is sometimes fun if you have people that talk back.
so i took myself to the official warframe discord to find people that would help but everytime I ask I just get ignored. So Im stuck playing alone.
while thats happening Im not really getting any messages from anyone besides my girlfriend which is nice but she isnt able to really keep up a conversation and shes often busy with school as well. when I try to talk to any of my friends they arent really interested to talk or just send short replies that obviously tell me to go away. one friend in particular she and I used to talk everyday not even in a romantic way just straight up besties for life, but after one of my relationships ended she basically took her side and never talks to me now. Ive just been really lonely and wanting to just have my friends talk to me again or just have some programming friends I can chill in a discord server while we code but I cant bring myself to ask anyone on the specific server im in for programming..
Honestly idk if anyone on devrant really looks at my posts and thinks "oh look Bubbles posted again". I feel like im not good enough to be here because Im not nearly as good as all of you, Im mostly just here asking questions or posting extremely fucking long posts no one wants to read. and yet this is still where most of my interactions are and I love that this devRant community makes me laugh or feel better about myself sometimes. and I thank all of you for that and I remember your @ 's all the time.
honestly the only real highlight of my week was when my teacher of my vocational class asked me to come back as an unpaid intern to help teach his new programming class and It made me happy but other than that I havent been too happy.
if anyone actually got through this holy shit youre awesome and thank you a lot its appreciated.21
Just finished our BIG update including a big change in the backend (PHP => NODEJS). So I hope our users will enjoy this one because we are not yet public and our competitor get a lot of clients each day but if we compare our product to their product: Ours is responsive as fucked and have much more stability but less fonctionnalities so we have to add more fonctionnalities before releasing our product to the public. I hope we will be able in a few weeks! With only me and my back-end dev (My employee and friend at the same time) to work on it and they have 2 more devs to their team to use Bubble.. (They are now 6 or 8 devs (wannabes and using a drag and drop website) in total vs 2 (us) real programmers).
A well deserved night of sleep :P7
My condolences go out to the 800 or however many amazing employees/devs that were laid off at Activision Blizzard due to poor leadership and guidance. Idk how many were devs were laid off but it’s all a shame. To think that one of the leading AAA companies is so fucking blind to the truth and only go for $$$ is a waste. If they had people in charge whom actually understood why products in the gaming industry are fun and popular and strives to make good games instead of slot machines and didn’t treat their development staff with such disrespect then maybe they’d make good games. Even bringing the great name of blizzard down to shit.. it’s phenomenal how blind they are and where they put their money. They are disgusting and need to get their head out of their ass even though it wouldn’t help anyone. Sorry to anyone that is involved with them11
So today I started to learn PHP & SQL for a team web development competition where we have until January to build a functioning website and showcase it to the judges! It's a little stressful but wish me luck because I'll need it..8
I GOT MY FIRST CLIENT!! I'm not charging too much since it's my first client and I'm just focusing on the experience rather than pay. Were having a meeting Friday so he can tell me what he wants cause he didnt have all the info at the time. It's just a simple website and if he requests more when I present it I'll ask for more muns21
So today I made my first basic program in C++ from scratch that worked! After some troubleshooting.. But I thought of ways I could edit it and make it better!14
So I'm 17, I go to a vocational school and I'm in a computer IT and networking class as a junior. We have learned programming in HTML and CSS and whenever I'm programming I'm having the most fun, so I am teaching myself C++! I don't really feel welcome due to my age but I hope all of you can help me in the future!17
Is it just me or does being a programmer sometimes feel like being a magician. It's such a weird profession. You're living in a bubble, nothing you create is physically tangible, yet anything is possible, and there is always more learn.
Most of the time it's art. Commenting out dead or obsolete code instead of removing it just because it feels like you put a little bit of yourself into it, even though it has no use anymore.
I sometimes wonder if there is any other profession out there that makes you ride the same rollercoaster of satisfaction, frustration, glory and defeat we've all been on.3
So I'm just finding out, today is Ada Lovelace day. I didnt realize Ada had a day dedicated to her. Today is gonna be only programming! I'm dedicating this shit code to her!1
Simple and accurate!
UI/UX makes a huge difference to average users. Just because you're the developer/expert user, do not think what's obvious to you is obvious to everyone. Think about being in a bubble. This is why you need collaboration with people in a different scope. Or atleast gather feedback from users.4
It's my 19th birthday today! I've had a good year as a programmer, my best yet actually. A year ago I never would have thought about coding a browser but now I'm building up to it with smaller projects like programs that communicate to each other from other computers, more advance gui, c language and wrapping c with python. I never thought I'd get to this but I'm only getting better and I thank this community for being here supporting me. Honestly I cant wait for this year and I cant wait to post more :)11
I'm starting my first real/big project! I'm going to program a discord bot for my senior project with Python and I'm gonna have to do it in 25 days. the goal is to get it done in 15 and polish it more from there.4
"Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that's bullshit. Debugging's actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you've secretly known all along. A bug is never just a mistake. It represents something bigger. An error of thinking. That makes you who you are. When a bug finally makes itself known, it can be exhilarating, like you just unlocked something. Because, after all, a bug's only purpose, it's only reason for existence is to be a mistake that needs fixing, to help you right a wrong. And what feels better than that? The bug forces the software to adapt, evolve into something new because of it. Work around it or work through it. No matter what, it changes. It becomes something new. The next version. The inevitable upgrade." - Elliot, Mr. Robot6
Seriously does this master/slave bullshit actually affect everyone here?
From what I’ve seen it’s just a fucking idea / suggestion not a full blown change set being implemented.
Stop fucking over reacting to bubble wrap nonsense, if you want to call it a master/slave relationship then call it a fucking master/slave relationship and be done with it, if this really offends you or you believe political correctness is needed here, go call it something else, at the end of the day it’s still going to be the same thing, just called something else.9

ive had other ideas but i started losing them cause i wrote them in several small pieces of paper. starting to think of i'll start to have a notebook dedicated to "ideas"7
I had been trying to get into the professional Developer Community for a while, wanting to find actual programmers, not just "I know how to write bubble sort in 3 languages" coders.
I admit I joined the platform for stickers, but I have just absolutely loved it! I see actual problems faced by developers, I relate to them. I find that I have way too much to learn before calling myself a true developer!
3-4 months of devRant has helped me grow as a developer more than 2.5 years of college so far!
Can't thank @dfox and @trogus enough for the wonderful platform!9
Who here programs when they're not at work? If you do, do you have your own side projects or games? I'm just curious 😁14
I know that Microsoft installs games after updates. Two or three. Mostly Candy Crush and Bubble witch by King Games, which, if I recall correctly, belongs to Microsoft as well.
But this. This discovery left me with an utter desire to bleach my eyes. Microsoft literally raped my laptop, which isn’t even a month old. And I think i need to relieve it of it’s suffering. Where’s the oil canister?28
So Ive been wondering.. Do companies make you use a Text Editor/IDE of their choosing or do you pick your own?
and side question, Whats your favorite Text Editor/IDE? I prefer VSCode and Sublime Text 3.29
Seasonal depression is starting to kick in. I'm feeling like I'm not doing good, whenever I ask for help with code people usually just rewrite all of it when they fix it so I feel like I'm not improving at all. I'm almost to the point in my life where I have to move out and be on my own I'm 19 I still have about 2 more years but it's so stressful. My room is the most comfy place for me I cant be away too long or I'll just get depressed so how am i supposed to find somewhere i like more? And what would I even use the other rooms for. I want a roommate (particularly a friend of mine) but I'm not even out there and I can see the future depression I'm gettin myself into with all the Bill's and jobs and shit, and college doesnt help with stress or depression at all. I probably shouldnt worry about that right now but i just cant help it.. it goes by too fast fuck.
Sorry guys this is the only real outlet for my feelings nowadays9
We were going over man in the middle attacks today and I honestly just could not stop thinking about that SpongeBob episode where Squidward keeps intercepting the bubble messages between SpongeBob and Patrick and it was so dumb that I could not stop smiling.3
Ahh it's been a while since I've posted.. My skills with python are getting better (I'm a beginner) and I know for everyone else it's probably nothing but my first big project/idea I came up with was to program a simple rock paper scissors game that prints if you win lose or tie. I got the input and random output right without having to look anything up and that actually makes me proud of myself which is rare but for the printing out you win, lose, or tie I looked it up but I'm noticing that I'm getting better.
Then today I made a coin flip script that returns heads or tails in like 2 minutes and the only reference I used was my own code!!
Thanks if anyone actually read it I envy a lot of you for doing it for a living and I can't wait to do it too :)6
I kept getting the same AttributeError like 15 times in a row and picked up my graduation rubber ducky and screamed "I DONT FUCKING KNOW"2
Finally my quest is complete! I have joined the sticker club!
Vote now! What's your favorite devRant sticker?
Use ++ to vote for ':/ devRant';
Use ++ to vote for ':/ bubble';
Use ++ to vote for 'new Rant("fml")';
In all seriousness though, what's your favorite sticker in your collection?
Anyone care to show off their collection?

Many people / engineers around me talk about trendy stuff like Cybersecurity or AI and show off what great encryption and neuronal networks they 'have built' ( I would rather say 'using').
I kinda get the feeling of 'Everbody talks about it - no one really knows what's goin' on inside (especially those guys who hate math and even algorithms).'
Am I just stupid or does somebody else here feel the same way? I mean people have been doing serious research about this stuff for years. And currently many kids are coming up with it as if it is easy stuff like the bubble sort.6
OK I've just got an idea that I think would be quite neat:
How about a virtual rubber duck that sits in the corner of your editor? Just like the gem in old Word, if you remember. It's yellow and quacks sometimes, and nods understandingly when you talk to it (mic monitoring).
And it also monitors your typing and says (popup text bubble) things like:
"those parentheses doesn't look balanced to me"
"did you really initialize that variable?"
"you wrote JASON again"
"you forgot the ;"
You get the point.
I don't have time to implement, feel free to steal my idea and become a millionaire.5
So im in college right? I dont have a licence to drive yet so I wait for my ride after class. My friend usually waits for me but this time was different..
I went to his car with him while having our normal conversations, we get to his car he puts his stuff in the car..
then.. it happened.. (pretend this is italicized) he pulled out a fucking hacky sack. THEN WE JOKED ABOUT IT BUT ACTUALLY TRIED TO DO IT AND BOUNCE IT BETWEEN EACH OTHER LIKE ACTUAL COLLEGE STEREOTYPES
Im making too big a deal out of this but ive never actually played hacky sack and its most likely the highlight of my college career4
Lets learn bubble sort!
Type the following code to Visual C++ 1998 and compile it. Then run it. Write the output to the paper i just gave it to you.
• Takes 5 mins to compile and run
• Too many errors in the given code so obscure output
• Teacher thinks we are so smart that we can understand c by typing and looking at the output.
The worst part:
• Different output per compiler
- Correctly compiles in the compiler in VC++ 98.
- Differs in GNU GCC, compiles wrong
- sends out obscure dummy output in VS2015~2017
- Works well in tutorialspoint.com compiler
WTF is this, guys?
Oh, and i have gone off topic...
Why does he think we are smart that we can understand bubble sort, and 4 more by only typing the code and looking at the output without knowing how does this algo work?
Answer to weekly question.
The teacher said to understand sorting algos by typing the code and looking at the output which differs per compiler.5
I'm so fkin happyyyyyy!!
2 months ago a friend hits me up and says "lets make a fkin website"
I had no knowledge of web dev and didn't take it seriously cuz "web dev is for losers who can't code, also they get paid in peanuts" as stated by someone I highly respected back in school.
It's all changed.
I never thought I'd say this.
But web dev is the best thing I've picked up in 3 years
Been making steady progress in js, php, sql then picked up jquery and made a few dynamic test sites. God it was so fkin satisfactory. Started node- it's intimidating but I'll get the hang of it soon and thinking of starting vue or ember as soon as I'm confident in all the stuff I've picked up. Oh and friend's website?
Fuck that it's a trash concept. I still thanked him for getting me to start web dev and moved on.
I still have my roots in c++ and Python and I'll never forget them but I think this may be the start of a wonderful journey. Be sure to burst my bubble I'm just a noob now11
Was accused of plagiarism because I could write a bubble sort algorithm without a reference (and therefore without a source) in my SECOND year of courses.
Their low expectations bit them in the ass when the admin. made all undergrads take a basic test (for loop going through an array, average of values, etc) and lots of people in their third year failed.7
So I taught myself basic PHP in one day today after contemplating and realizing itll help me get the job I want. And i made a practice website with it today and im pretty proud of it so far.9
I wanna make online friends that program too, I would love to just sit in a call or sumn and just talk and program and ask for help or vice versa if needed. But I'm that person who also rarely already talks to his current IRL and Online friends that dont program. And can never and doesnt like to spare my own time to talk to others. I'm quite frankly screwed 😂6
Switching to linux soon.. C is too limited on windows. I also need to find more programming friends :/ but I dont know how to make programming friends /:17
So I've realized how socially awkward I am. I've had a goal for a few weeks now to get a few new friends online a few in 2 different categories. Programming friends, and foreign language friends but it's so hard and I dont know how to initiate it on social media or on shit like discord and reddit8
Okay so this Is my first actual rant before its been questions or experiences but today has been really stressful. So one of my last posts I talked about how I don't know when to use what syntax whenever and I've been practicing but every fucking time I try to start something I can't fucking get it I don't even know how to start and yeah I planned it out and Im not getting anywhere I can't this is something I wanna do for the rest of my life and I can't even manage to make simple shit its like what the living fuck. Then then I tell my friend who's also in my class who programs what I'm trying to do AND HE DOES IT IN LIKE A MINUTE OR LESS AND IT WORKS AND ITS REALLY FUCKING STUPID BECAUSE I TRY AND STUDY SO HARD AND I CAN'T GET IT NO MATTER WHAT I DO I JUST CAN'T AND IT SUCKS SO FUCKING MUCH I HATE IT I JUST WANNA BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN PUT THIS WITH THIS TO DO THIS AND ITS DEPRESSING ME SO MUCH I JUST WANT TO BE GOOD5
Ignore the code I know it's really basic but I didn't have my flash drive that has all my projects on it so enjoy the meme10
Just uninstalled Bubble Witch Saga 3 from my Windows 10 *Pro* system.
Silently installed for me, even through I've never installed a Windows game in my life.
Changed the reg setting, so we'll see if that is an end to it.
I've never been a Windows hater, but they are really testing my patience with this shit. A *paid* business OS that downloads crappy games.
Are they intent on turning Windows into a Shovelware platform? This is the sort of thing which would cause me to leave the platform for good.15
Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that’s bullshit. Debugging’s actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you’ve secretly known all along.
So my friend who is currently attending University to major in Computer Science just started programming Java a few days ago. His first assignment was to learn bubble sort and make it organize a table of certain values provided in the assignment with a few other items on the side. Apparently, he was stressing over the assignment and waited till the last night to do this, and was running on 2 hours of sleep. Anyways, a few days pass and he received a 0% on the assignment with the comment "See me on Monday." and questioned what he did wrong (They use GitHub to submit their assignments, even though other classes at the University just commit to the University Server for Computer Science), and asked me to review the code. When I started looking at the code, all he managed to do was just make two tables, one that would print the unsorted table, and then print the "sorted" table. Plus, the catch that got him in trouble, he named his package "fuckthisshit", how does one not realize that when they're submitting their assignments... like seriously? Like I can understand the 2 hours of sleep, but with 1000s of examples out there, how do you manage to fake bubble sort plus end up naming a package "fuckthisshit" and question why he got a 0%. I do feel bad for him in the long run since there aren't many assignments in this class so this was worth 25%.
Fuck college dude. My professor is a shit. I'm slow when it comes to instructions and some learning and so I don't usually get started as fast. Then after he decides to yell at me and tell me everything I'm doing is wrong he explains like I'm stupid and then fucking not even 30 seconds later asks me why im not 4 problems ahead with my paper.9
So in my last post I was angry that I didnt know many algorithms or how to make one, so you guys inspired me to learn about them and I found a course I'm gonna take about algorithms and such. I'm incorporating it into my learning schedule so let's hope this leads to me not being stupid.3
I'm giving a presentation on different text editors on Friday to the class I'm helping teach. I'm excited it's the beginning of the year and they're new our world and I get to show them and review 5 editors.
If you're curious the the 5 editors are
Sublime Text 3
No IDE they have no need for an IDE yet.12
In 1 month 2 days will be my 2 year "rantiversary" on devRant. I was scrolling through my posts and I've seen how far I've come. All those hurdles and roadblocks. I might not be as good as I like right now but I'm pretty proud that I've come so far. And I'm glad you guys were here to help me stay sane and devRant was here for me to lash out on and feel welcomed. I am grateful
I'm studying for a CEH certification so I can enter a computer security competition that my school is holding, and I have to cram the whole subject in my head.
Before anyone asks why, I have a great interest in the subject and its fun to learn the problem is the amount I have to learn in such little time
My teacher also wanted me to enter so I could go up against the guy who almost placed in nationals last year, and he thinks I can do it, many people do. looking at it realistically if I crammed it all and reviewed I could place in regionals which is the goal.
Wish me luck if you read all of that!..2
I have so much learning and projects I'm really excited to start. Now if only I can find the time for it.. 😓2
Next money saving Discovery! I made my own bubble/milk tea. It actually treated like the ones that cost $5 at the mall.... Finally.
The magic was use half and half milk!!14
Since I'm back to working for myself again and haven't been able to find a reliable hire, I'm alone. In this bubble, no one cares/sees/appreciates my backend code and I just realized that's why I've been slacking so bad on this ETL process. No one gives a shit about it but me. If I build an interface, I get kudos and everyone celebrates, but working on a three server process with layers of abstraction, auto-scaling, etc...and people just wonder if I'm jerking off all day.
Sometimes it sucks to be a lone ranger.2
I'm actually starting to see my skills advance.. I'm able to be given a basic topic and do it as long as I have the formula or whatever is needed in my head or planned out
I hate when theres simple problems I cant solve. Legit pisses me off. I cant even program a simple number sorting algorithm. 🤬9
Uh so I might be getting a job at a local coffee shop while I go through college. I’ve never had a job before so idk if I’m doing the right thing or if I’m rushing into it.10
I'm working on a pretty Plotly map. To learn how to use bubble graphs, I've copy-pasted the example and modified it.
The example is ebola occurrence by year, Plague Inc style. So naturally I need to add some countries. For testing, of course.
Ebola for everyone! Yay.
I like my job.2
Honestly I love videos on YouTube that's sped up footage of someone programming a game and talking over it explaining what was happening or what they were thinking but I have only found a few channels that do it.. Hopson is one with his Mincraft in a week being my fav.. I just wish there was more..2
I have so much motivation at the wrong times lmao. Although I'm gonna start programming more than I already do so wish me luck6
I'm I the only one who thinks Web development has a different feel. It's just so overwhelming. All of the learning is.4
So soon I'm gonna apply for a really basic web dev job. Pay will be discussed in the interview but it's not a lot of hours its once a week, I can stay home, it wont interfere with my college schedule or my schedule in general, it will give me job experience since I've never had a job before, itll give me a sneak peak of what the paid dev world is like. Also it raises my wage from 0 to whatever we decide on per hour. The only one really proud of me is my teacher of 3 years now. But this will just be until I get out of college because it's a comfy schedule1
So the story is true and this is what we have to deal with now..
My friend and I started to build a Web Application for a Roleplay Community. The project was for a client mainly and they don't mind if we try to sell this project to the public. All goes well except the shitty design, which is the one our client asked for. So after 6 months of work we planned to switch our backend to Nodejs, the switch look quite easy in our brains [PHP => NODEJS] because we already use Nodejs for instant functions without reloading the page.
So during the planning we earn a client which is one of the member of the clan, but he pay for another clan which is 6x bigger then the one we're in. So we continue to develop and think about the switch. We learn a news about a new competitor, this one sucks, we tried their App and it's not worth the money they ask. A few days after another competitor enter the market, this one is a big challenge for us. "Sit down tight, yea you reading this"..
The competitor use BUBBLE to create their shit, they earned 10 clients in one week and just punch us with "THE ROCK" hand, they release a lot of feature each week, they're 6 devs on that (if we can call them devs), we're 2 programmers (True Programmers). What we do in 1 week they do it in 5 hours with Bubble, the switching to Nodejs was a badluck, you couldn't add feature because of this switch during 2 weeks, this made us later and second in the race. My friend (at the same time my employee and back-end programmer) move into another appartment which obligate him to work full-time. At this time I'm f****, I'm only a Front-End Programmer vs 6 Wannabe Devs with a mother**** tool of *** (#Bubble).
This is where I am, in this beautiful opportunity to win this market but with this bad luck occuring = the opportunity is low, but our advantage is we don't have made our project public yet so they're the only good option for the communities to get that kind of web app, the others are not included and only a copy of this (Their Product) or just a big junk made with Wix.
At this time I'm working hard to make this opportunity happen, I have my math which I have to finish to have my High School diploma to do, a part-time job to get if I want to stay with an internet connection and finally I have to find a way to still be able to make my dream come true (Working on my Business at full time & Make money from it) and continue to be a Front-End Programmer/CEO of an enterprise.4
Moving flats in about an hour, wrapped my desktop in multiple blankets and bubble wrap, and that times ten for my monitors, I'm fearing for my life here guys4
I went to state competitions, had 9 compile errors in my code, said screw it I'm turning it in, didn't worry the rest of the day while having fun, didn't place, didn't care2
Real-world algorithmic question: What is the most efficient way to pop all bubbles on a large sheet of bubble wrap?
You can only use your fingers.13
On Friday a bunch of sophomores are coming into our computer IT class to see if they want to join. We are setting up stations for them to learn, listen, and interact with to show them what it's like in our class, and I wrote the code so they will write a HTML document that tells us basic info about them!!3
I absolutely love it when C# programmers who never learnt any language outside of their bubble discover C# is not the most feature up-to-date programming language. I am honestly annoyed by people who can read Java syntax but can't read ML syntax (because it is too 'clever' to be used in production). What a bunch of mediocre COBOL programmers!4
I am SOOO fucking sick of being asked if our website and gaming servers are going to be GDPR compliant. All these game owners in a panic changing everything they do just to conform to this law.
Fuck GDPR. In all reality COME AT ME BITCH. The EU wants to grow a pair of balls and act like the world internet police? Bring it the FUCK on. You can't even stop pirating in your own country, so how the FUCK are you going to regulate and enforce this law on HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of servers, when your punk ass government can't even shutdown a single torrenting website.
Give me a fucking break, and shame on you pussies for allowing it. All you people running around scared acting like your private gaming servers are important. I give a shit less how much work you put into your server. I have put more work than most anyone else, but you don't see me trying to act self important as if my gaming server is some fortune 500 company.
Your server isn't important and neither are you. The government doesn't give a shit about your server so can we all just stop acting like this fucking matters. NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT YOUR SERVER.
NO ONE is going to come and sue you for not complying. GDPR is for business, and anyone that wants to argue no look it says right here it applies to all is a fucking MORON. Do you idiots stop and think or do you just believe everything typed out on paper.
THEY CANT ENFORCE THIS ON EVERYONE. They don't have the resources. So use your fucking heads and stop being so fucking scared of a law that has no resources to stop you. THEY CAN"T DO ANYTHING. EU and whoever made their polices, I DARE them to try and touch my server, I WANT them to start something with me, just so I can show the rest of the world why the Internet is still the wild west and why they have no power over me.
You think pirate bay is the only one who knows how to hide their server? You think pirate bay is the only one who keeps backups of their server to be able to re release in an instant somewhere else in the world? Bitch get real this is the internet, a place where a 5 year old can buy hand grenades from the Red Silk Road, and you wanna talk to me about your privacy? Go fuck yourself.
It's not my problem some douche bag went onto a site that used his personal information in the wrong manner. So how about you do what everyone else does and browse ANONYMOUSLY. But no it would be to easy for governments to make their own citizens responsible. Instead they have to hold all of YOUR hands, because you people are to stupid to protect yourself.
Wake the fuck up world, and stop being a bunch of whining little brats who cry for the government to bubble wrap your world so you can live safer. Natural selection is long overdue for a lot of morons still breathing air.22
Swag idea: Rubber ducks with the DevRant face on them instead of a ducks face. No beak. Just a freaky slash where the beak should be. 👍🏻
The whole duck can even be the speech bubble orange!
I don't know about anyone else but I'd buy the shit out of this!4
Me: trying to do any simple fucking project
Me: cant figure out how to do something simple or cant figure out how to start or how something should work.
Me *Looks up problem* (everytime...)
results: SOMETHING I WOULD NEVER HAVE FUCKING THOUGHT OF.
Am I just a shitty programmer, a shitty learner, or just not cut out for this? because I fucking Love this field. this is the only thing I ever want to do. BUT I CANT FIGURE ANYTHING OUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME EVEN WITH LANGUAGES IM GOOD AT!! WHICH IS JUST PYTHON AND IM STILL SHIT AT THAT.
I TRY TO DO PROJECTS WITH JS, OR C, OR PYTHON PICK WHICHEVER ONE. AND I NEVER KNOW HOW I SHOULD START IT, AND IF I LOOK UP HOW TO DO IT ITS SO MUCH LONGER AND COOLER AND BETTER THAN MY DUMBASS WOULD HAVE DONE (and longer in a good way because its well thought out and works)
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A REAL JOB IN THE FIELD IF I CANT MAKE THE RANDOM IDEAS THAT I SEE ON THE INTERNET AND WHY CANT I MAKE THEM AS GREAT OR LONG AND SHIT ON MY OWN. SO MANY PEOPLE CAN WRITE SO MANY LINES OF CODE AND FUNCTIONS AND ALL THIS SHIT THAT WORKS AND YEAH THEY LOOK UP SOME PROBLEMS BUT NOT HOW TO FUCKING DO THE ENTIRE THING LIKE SOME FUCKING RETARD
I CANT GO A PROJECT WITHOUT LOOKING UP HOW TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY LITTLE BRAIN CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT20
So an update on my last health rant..
It's got off to a great start... not
My intentions were to go into NYC to walk around in Central Park.
I'm currently wandering around aimlessly in the park, taking a break..
On my way over though I passed a bubble tea festival that was happening...
Gotta get bubble tea now... *Bad* but easier it's so expensive.. They're price gouging!!!
*good? But more I want a drink... I have water but I want something tastier...*
**Sees Duane Reade, goes in no sole, too expensive**
** Sees McD...pass... sees sign saying any large drink for $1**
I'm now waking in CP while drinking a large Sprite.... and I want cake bc I'm already in NYC goddammit... might as well get some as it's in the way... And I won't get another chance until.... **Some far away date** ( I know is probably not true...)
My C adventure is going horribly. So I stopped. I took a second to breathe then looked at my current resources decided to use the 2 books i have as references to learn from as well, then found a reasonably long YouTube guide so I can have someone verbally explain something, and I have a friend and a few places I can now ask questions if I need it. So yeah I'm pretty confident now.10
In an algorithm class, professor introduced us to some simple search algorithms (bubble sort, selection sort, insertion sort, shell sort). He did a quite decent job and most of the students were able to grasp the code and understand the differences in those algorithms. But then he spoiled his whole lecture with one additional slide. There he proposed an optimization: Instead of using a temporary swap variable, we just could use the first array element (or the zeroth element, respectively: the one ad index 0) for doing all the swapping. We just had to document that, so that the caller would "leave the first position of the array empty", resulting in "cleaner code". And he did that in the same class where he used Big-O notation to argue about runtime complexity. But having the caller to resize the array and to shift all the elements by one position did not matter to him at all, because it was "not part of the actual algorithm".2
This basically is me rambling all my thoughts that have been clouding my mind.
Learning other programming languages after learning the first is harder than I expected. I learned python first but that's making learning others (which I know arent similar but ) C, ES6, PHP, etc. I need to figure out what makes each one special and get a proper path instead of learning them all the same way. Which is easier for the web dev languages but fuck man I just need a good path for them and I'm good. Like learn this this this this that and that and I've got a basic understanding of the language I dont need to stress and I can casually build my knowledge from here now that I understand all this. Cause I love programming and I want to be the best I can be and just get to the level I am with python. And at some point I have to learn about basic electronics and learning how to program Arduinos with C so I can do stuff with that because I really really REALLY want to.
It doesnt stop there. I want to learn another language and no I'm not talkin bout programming anymore I mean I wanna learn Japanese and German (but japanese primarily) but it doesnt help that I'm always either in school, studying, programming, or playing games. I just cant find time to practice Hiragana&Katakana (two basic writing systems in japan) and it doesnt help that I'm a lazy procrastinating piece of shit that doesnt have or can keep a proper schedule and hell I barely can English and Its my native tongue. Ugh. Itd be better if I had a native speaker to help me tbh.
And finally I want to learn basic pixel animating I have dreamed as a kid to do some kind of animation and programming and I want to do both for games I want to program for fun but it doesnt help that I cant draw sprites or anything for shit. I cant get it and I just am fucked but I'm going to ask some people I know and a few subreddits for advice/help/resources with that
Welp that was the Bubbles Power Hour none of you probably are keen followers of mine and if I had any I'd be shocked and honored but thanks for reading anyways and any advice on anything is always appreciated!11
All the time i wonder why on earth people put up with this framework hell. This is part serious question and part rant but seriously, how did we come to this? With all that jQuery, React, Node, whatever stuff i'm kinda losing the overview over what's even todays standard. I always try to keep my code as vanilla as possible without using external libraries. But it seems the entire web development industry is heading the completly other way. I tried to look into a few frameworks but i never really see the appeal. Just now i looked up react native because the last 20 rants talked about it and immediately noped out because they fucking create a DOM in js, why the fuck would you do this?!
Worst thing about this framework shithole is that some frameworks are beeing pulled into the mix for very weird and unnecessary reasons. Best example is a charts library i recently used to visualize a database of temperatures that was completely written in native js but pulled jQuery in for the equivalent of window.addEventListener('load',function(stuff)) and i was furious. I rewrote the code and could throw out the jQuery dependency with no problem. What the fuck is wrong with people?
Alright since you made it here: I'm not trying to throw any of you under the bus for using frameworks. I just fail to understand why you would use these. To each their own and unless your site has the performance of the ticketing system i use at work that takes like 15 seconds to load one fucking page i won't complain at all. But pull in a framework just to do a task you can easily do in native js in remotely the same timeframe you are on my list.2
My new laptop is gonna be in the mail sometime this week! IM SO HYPED TO PROGRAM SHIT FROM SOMETHING OTHER THAN A DESKTOP!! For those who are wondering it's the HP Omen (I actually really love HP)
I finally feel like a proper developer! I was googling something, found a promising thread on Stack Overflow and after going there noticed that it was my own self-answered question from some time ago that unfortunately didn't really answer my current problem.
So fucking apparently HP decided to hold off my laptop delivery until September 3rd.. I am fucking beyond pissed.2
Honestly stack overflow can be helpful but what's not helpful is when some unresponsive asshole puts your question on hold because you left out part of the problem but doesn't respond to you after you edited the post and fixed the questions problem. Like fuck am I ever gonna get it answered or do I have to wait for this fuck wad to say it's okay. At least with asking on reddit I get responses. Fuck man I'm probably just gonna repost.3
How I got started part 2:
Thanks for all of the +1. True story...
I want to say something to those who are new, or not confident, or think that they are not smart enough, or can't afford to learn.
Everything I learned in college, everything that I do in my job, every tool that I use, I can get online for free. It is up to you to aspire. I make 6 figures. Go get it!
I survived the dotcom bubble, September eleventh and the financial crisis of 2008. My passion for my profession gotten me through the tough times.
Read. Study multiple subjects besides tech (especially business and visual design). Be a jack of all trades and a master of some.
So I'm gonna be honest. I dont know git. I do plan on learning it but I'm waiting to learn how to use it. But I'm seeing all this stuff about it on here could someone explain what it is and its function?7
So recently I've been taught how to make Virtual Machines in school and I did made an Ubuntu vm because it was loaded on a disk my teacher gave to me. And I loved it, it was my first time with Linux and I was so impressed, so I put some more versions of Linux on a flash drive to copy and I'm going to try them all out! The other versions I'm going to try out are Mint, Fedora, Manjaro, and Kali!3
I'm gonna be job shadowing some programmers to see what it's like first hand in the field soon! Its my senior year and it'll count as a field trip for my school so I won't get counted absent!!3
I set up my Raspberry Pi 3 B+ to be a git server and Web server!! It’s not a meant for performance just my own personal enjoyment :)1
More marks for a bubble sort.
For those of you that know the bubble sort you may share my frustration. I built a simple python program that took three integers and sorted them using a series or compound if statements using no built in low and max functions. Someone in my college class did the same thing but used a bubble sort and got higher marks. This angers me, I had to write an algorithim in a language I had barely touched but this person just used old scrappy code and got higher marks. Only a little tease but you get the picture, bubble sort is inefficient.2
So I feel like looking up solutions for my code is cheating, so I try to do it on my own for hours. Nothing I try works and the solution is usually something really simple and I feel like I'm never going to understand..4
So what Text Editors do you guys use at your jobs? I'm in high school but I would like to know which Text Editors/IDEs programmers in the field use. I use sublime, VS Code for my programming and for HTML and CSS I use Brackets.
Side note.. this update for devRant is pretty nice c:16
Starting college soon.. I'm really hoping I dont get one of those shit teachers that doesnt actually know what they're talking about..8
I've started to program for at least an hour a day minus weekends but I still will program on weekends just I usually take that time to relax and play games or watch stuff but I started so I can practice and learn, it does and doesnt feel like I'm doing a lot cause I'm doing small JS projects (like a quiz which was more in depth than I thought tbh) to build up to bigger ones. I just feel I need to get a better understanding on why i need to do things and when and just somehow learn better from my exercises and examples, which I can see going through making another quiz its helping my understanding a little. Idk I'm just throwing my thoughts down, lemme know what yall think
Okay so this question is directed towards anyone with SQL experience. Is MySQL bad to start and bad for beginners? It seems intimidating if Im being honest. and Im confused on how to set everything up and get started and working with SQL and Databases in general15
Going to be taking my first certification test soon! It's the HTML5 Web Application development fundamentals MTA if you were wondering and im getting it for free so I've started refreshing and studying! Next I'm going for the Software development fundamentals C# and VB!2
I hope and pray that one day I'll be able to solve problems and program things I wanna program without someones help or me looking up a better solution5
So I'm helping my vocational school teacher with his Programming class as a graduate. While we were alone and talking about normal stuff (plans for the class and stuff like that), he brought up discord and after that I told him "I really wanna work for them, but I don't wanna move" and he continued to tell me how I have so much potential, how nothing stops me, how I am going far and that I'm going to do a lot. I wanted to legit cry inside because I've always thought the exact opposite of myself and always just thought about living a normal life, with the same dev job, nice home yknow the norm.
Idk man that talk happened in the afternoon today and Im still overwhelmed with the positivity.3
I feel shitty cause I've never wrote near 100 lines of python code or just a large number of lines in any language. I want to write large amounts of code that will actually work.10
When you started your first programming job was it easier or harder than you pictured because I feel like I'm no where near ready (although I'm not out of high school just yet so I have time to prepare but still)4
So a rant ago I was actually ranting because I couldn't think of how to do anything and such. Fair reminder I'm still kinda new so I decided to program small stuff to build me up so I can learn. AND I JUST MADE A PASSWORD GENERATOR ON MY FIRST TRY!!8
Okay so I need someone to tell me if this is what its like programming for a Superior at an actual job. Background information, I go to a highschool where Im learning IT fundementals, Programming, and networking.
So then my teacher is like "can you add a number showing what percent its at?" and I was like "yeah sure" so I did it, and today I showed him and he was like "Can you make it to where the percent is in the center so you can see what its at the whole time" so I obviously replied
Stare at code I wrote weeks ago for a few hours, while not doing anything else hoping I get motivated to write more5
So I bought small notebook I've been using to jot down notes, ideas, references, etc and its helped a lot!4
So was starting to get to used to and warm up to material design 2 or as I like to call it "Fischer price baby's first UI, bubble edition" and then Google fucking drop this shit for Gmail .-.9
So I've been in this dilemma.
I'm a senior like around 10 days from graduation. And I know I wanna do programming but like I dont know what area I want to do..
And I've always wanted to make a game (I have a few ideas tbh) but I feel like if I do I'll be sucked into that only and not ever really program software or web apps..
Am I going to succeed? How can I be good enough to be a professional if the best thing I've made is a bit that barely has original code?4
Okay before you read on this is a stupid question!
So the most common response I get when I ask for advice is contribute to open source projects but theres some problems.
> I dont know how to find projects on github or anywhere
> I dont know how or where to start when I actually find a project
> I'm way too intimidated by huge projects like linux, browsers, etc
> I don't know what to add
> I'm too afraid of messing up the project
> my understanding of github its self is very limited and I'm not good at using it. (Which isnt a problem for the open source development but since I'd be using github it is a problem)
Theres always smaller problems too but those should sum it up3
Gonna be applying for college. Gonna major in programming.. I've always read the horror stories.. I hope my teachers arent retarded and dont make me use shit software..
Exercise do the pyramid of * and I looked up how to do it but so many people are able to do it without looking it up I dont know why shit to do with nested for loops makes me feel so dumb.
I know it's not a big deal to not know how to do every single thing but I'm always even stuck on the smallest exercises that apparently more people can do than not. Like how am I supposed to have thought about that or figured that out. How am I supposed to learn all this shit. Like for example just look up a list of basic exercises and I cant do any of them. I'm not good at this and its stressing me out because how will I get better or hell even a job if I cant solve these simple problems? How am I supposed to get better at solving these simple problems? I cant just keep looking at the fucking solution because that wont stick or teach me anything
Most stupid thing to rant about by far7
I hate everything that happens in the government that has to do with the internet I've already been on multiple tangents I'm tired, cant we get people in office who actually know shit about technology?1
Ive installed php before but for some fucking reason it just refuses to fucking work. Im not installing extra bullshit like some people tell me because I had it work exactly how I wanted it to on my desktop but now fucking hell what the hell is the damn deal7
I'm almost done with my Python course and after I'm gonna study more like the tkinter module, the sql module, the socket module, etc (I'm sorry if they aren't called modules still kinda new to all of this talk) And after I feel I've learned what I need I'll move on to Ruby Programming!6
Have you ever been stressed because of some bugs in some of your code? It helps having friends that code that can help.. and it helps the stress!..1
Okay I'm not trying to start a comment war or anything, but Im struggling. I want to learn PHP but im already great with python and can just learn flask.. Is there any advantages to learn both because I probably will do that I just wanted to hear some opinions.7
So today in school I decided on my career choice. So I've decided on becoming a data scientist because I can still use my programming and I very much do like looking at data and researching things as well as program obviously :) so if there are any data scientists or data miners out there do you have advice?5
So I don't know if any of you know what BPA (Business Professionals of America) is (and its okay if you dont because its for highschoolers)
They hold competitions for us each year and Im going to be on my classes web dev team as the back-end python programmer. Weve already assigned everyone to their languages and were going to study so we can be prepared.
For the competition we have a few months to work on a website that actually works, front end, back end and all. There has to be forms and maybe even signup sheets that actually work.
Its really exciting and I'm definitely going to post the adventure of programming it along the way on devRant!!
If you wanna learn more about BPA go to their website, if your curious about what some kids get to experience then I'd suggest checking it out!!!
Im bout to start my freshmen year of college and I need money right. Then it hits me. FUCK IM A PROGRAMMER I CAN JUST MAKE SOMETHING! im retarded and genius at the same time.9
Okay so here's a question to all, what do people/companies make you program? This applies to Web and Software programming5
Fuck that motherfucking piece of shit internet explorer. It should burn together with all that cum nugget microsoft bullshit.
API authorization with bearer token wasnt working. Guess what? That one-balled piss spunk-bubble thought it’s okay to change auth type from Bearer to Basic.1
- 4+ years of experience
- Great Portfolio
- Great Github profile
- Worked at some succesful startups.
- Uhmm sorry we can't hire you for this frontend job because you couldn't complete this whiteboard bubble sort test in c++.4
IM FIGHTING THROUGH ALL THIS INTIMIDATION OF LEARNING NEW THINGS. I JUST KNOW IM GONNA FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE ALL THIS NEW SHIT. Learning is stressful3
does 8.5$ per hour it's cheap for developing an android game?
I don't have a lot of actual experience that I can show to people (most of my works are on my computer) they want me to build them bubble shooter game in cocos creator for 8.5$, should I ask for more?20
I've never had to put up with bullshit after bullshit after FUCKING BULLSHIT IN MY LIFE
ONE THING GOES WRONG SO I MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE OH SHIT I LOST THE CORD, FOUND IT, DOESNT WORK, FIX THAT, "COULD NOT EXPAND FILESYSTEM PLEASE TRY RASPI CONFIG" BLAH BLAH. I WAKE UP THINKING TODAY WILL GO SMOOTHLY BUT LINUX DECIDES TO FUCK ME OVER THEN I TRY TO GO TO THE PI BUT LITERALLY EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO JUST REFUSES TO WORK6
Studying for a MTA Certification(HTML5 Web Application Development Fundamentals) that I'm going to take in a few weeks! If anyone has any advice for the test and studying let me know, and if you have the certification, what should I be focusing my studies on?4
Okay so Im just stuck. Ive not programmed in a few weeks I wanna say, and when I do I go on the binge and then I "take breaks" to relieve the stress because I want to just relax but I dont force programming out of my life I also think about better ways to do stuff but I feel like shit because I want to just enjoy and relax with some games but I enjoy and LOVE programming but I just dont know what to do. because I want to enjoy some of the games I got for christmas but I want to keep improving and I feel if I go a day without it just that much shittier for not. and I cant see how much Ive improved. I just cant relax and feel good about it.
Okay so I'm new to C++ and my competition is either tomorrow or Thursday. And before I go into the comp I need a good random number generator but the problem is I can't get a good one . And when I run mine I either get the same number a few times in a row then when it changes it just increments a few until it hits 99 then restarts. And I only want it to generate different numbers everytime with a 1/99 chance to get the same number.4
Today in English during our reading time I brought in my book on Python and I just started programming and my teacher didn't stop me!2
So... My brother got his computer when I was 6 years old... It was a 286 with the new 64mb HD and the screen had 16 gray scale color...
Latter it was given to me when my brother got his 486dx2 and I did a course in ms-dos and batch scripting.
That's it, lots of sfigher, puzzle bubble, Dina blast, wolfeinstein 3D...1
I hate meteor. I hate that I have to have everything I do revolve around meteor and it's packages. I hate that I cant implement HMR without support from meteor or tearing my hair out for hours on end. I hate the special implementation of unit tests that have to accommodate for the fact that meteor sucks so much. I hate the encapsulated bubble of "meteor" packages that install themselves outside of my development directory. I hate that I can't use most of the code I find while researching problems because it doesn't work inside of the meteor bubble.
I did not start this project. I did not select meteor as a starting point because I didn't want to implement my own full stack solution, of which there are many that are far better in almost every way, and watch everyone else that touched my code suffer from day one.
If it is the last thing I do, I WILL purge meteor and all of it's nonsense from every line of code in this application even if that means rewriting every line of code in this application.
I will have no mercy. There will be screams of agony, gnashing of teeth and blood will flow down the streets like the rivers of hate that flow in my heart for meteor and all things it stands for.
I will have my vengeance, and it will be terrible.1
Finally did it, finally installed Ubuntu on my fucking desktop and the transition is not as bad as I thought. I just have to install my dev environments now. C, PHP, SQL, C# (.NET Core)6
Going through the books and online exercises they just make you do the basics like loop a number 10 times to print out 0-9 or something like that. And the return keyword I usually forget about because I've never been told how I can actually use it for something.
I want to learn how I can use all of these and when I can use them, is there any books, videos, or courses I can look into? I'm sorry, this is probably a Sinbad question but I am just trying to get as much help as I can2
Alright so I'm in need of a little advice.
So I recently decided to go back and practice basic problem solving and from what I can tell now it's just me not used to JS like I am with python but I want to move on to bigger projects and other basic concepts (like manipulation of the DOM) and move away from basic problems.
But my concern is that I'll look at that list and only pick the ones that I feel I understand I can solve instead of the ones I cant. And theres a large list of them and I see that people are doing a lot of them while I'm just doing a few per page. And I'm afraid I'm just not good enough or stupid if I just ignore the basics and move on because the basics are there for you to figure out the easy stuff.
But I really just want to move on and I dont know when I need to. And last time I asked for advice I mentioned I have been programming for a few years, left out the normal accomplishments I've posted on here but I was just told since it's taking me this long I should just quit I tried to rebuttle but they kept telling me no that literally broke me and my confidence so now I'm sensitive to asking questions also fuck whoever that was.5
Okay so I have been thinking about transferring to linux. But I'm not too sure because of a few things I'm hoping yall can explain to me.
1st problem.) The operating system just feels so empty
2nd.) Theres a lot of customizing I would have to go through (which isnt really a problem it's just difficult getting it to look good)
3rd.) I'd have to learn to use the terminal more (which might be easier than I'm thinking)
4th and final.) I dont think I'd be able to use C# I know .NETCore is a thing but I dont think I'd be able to do as much with it.
I know these would probably go away after awhile but I've tried using it before but im afraid of making it my main OS I'm also putting aside games in my problems cause I know they recently made gaming better on linux I just dont know the extent to that.
Any help is appreciated and please go easy on me 😅14
Okay so im gonna get some confused and many disagreeing ranters on this.
I like SoloLearn. I said it.
I think its a good platform to learn the syntax for a language. and get basic understanding on the language. granted It does a horrible job at teaching you what or how to do things. and its webapp isnt nearly as great as the mobile app.
the mobile app has a lot more "lessons" ranging from ES6, Angular, React, Algorithms, Cryptography. they obviously arent the best. and SoloLearn has SO many flaws and I understand that, trust me I understand more than anyone
I just dont think its the worst.3
I don't have a single particular goal. but the first goal I have is to learn the rest of the programming languages that I want to learn, and get better with those
So I'm thinking about programming an app for iOS and Android in C# for my senior project.. but since I lack creativity I can't think of something..
Day one of my first big project.
It felt weird but a little easy to grasp discord.py but I felt like I was just copying people as I read or watched tutorials on how to use things and how they work and while I was getting started In general. But I got the dice function working great. I had an error but I fixed it.
After I got it working I uploaded it to my friends server and they messed around with it and it felt so great because they were enjoying it and complimenting me and I’m not even done with it :)
I’m learning a lot but I’m also struggling with certain areas like finding good documentation or feeling like I’m just copying.. but I’m gonna keep doing these update things because I feel cool and official as I write these :^)
Its 6 in the morning. I've been unmotivated to program since my highschool graduation. And I just felt some inspiration flow to me but at the same time crippling self doubt followed. I have projects planned but my lack of skill stops me and its passing me off because I'm already wasting my life. And I'm thinking of getting an IT job to start off since I have the experience from school but I'm deathly afraid I'll lose the touch I've started to get. Idk thanks if anyone bothered clicking and reading this rant.. theres no one else I can talk to about this stuff..9
This is kind of a loaded question because it's so broad. So I'll just throw my thoughts down on the idea anyways.
Honestly with all the way that game dev has come it's so sad to see just the increase of people that are so ungrateful and dont appreciate what went into making it. Complaining about small not a big deal bugs that occur, blaming the devs for stuff that's completely not up to them but the "idea man", etc. Although good things are coming out of it. Like children wanting to get into it more which is awesome and indie developers basically holding up the industry while majority of the AAA companies get their shit together. So I see all of that increasing. Also I'm expecting to see the Rust language start to be used in AAA titles replacing C++
Software dev well I see python making a bigger uprising and I'm hoping people become more accepting of python as well.
These are all just random thoughts so please take that into consideration
So I’ve been programming in c++ and I’m ready to step up to making gui applications and I’ve heard QT is practically the best and only option I have but I don’t have that money and the trial only lasts 10-30 days.. so what can I do?..13
Is booting linux from a drive a good way to start with linux if I'm not too sure I should make it my main os? The only thing keeping me back at this point is gaming since it's my gaming rig but idk I have 2 distros I want to use/decide between that I've loved on vms in the past but it's just me actually going through with doing it27
I'm not gonna lie when im learning new modules or OOP or get errors or something I get intimidated and feel stupid for asking for help
So I’m starting to learn C# is it a bad idea to use .NET Core to learn the basics of the language? And for the advanced stuff use visual studio when it’s needed? I’m just trying to avoid Visual studio tbh20
Okay so I've been programming for around a few months learning python. I'm a slow learner so I try to stick with a learning schedule that suits me and i do got it, but I've come across a problem that keeps happening.
When will I know when to use certain functions like len(), range(), Or even modulas %. Because I forget they're there and im worried its going to effect me from being better.
Another problem while I have some of your attention is i dont know when to use math in my code really well but I've been getting better at that so I'm gonna practice a little bit for that.3
How am I supposed to do great things like people believe I’ll do if everything has been done in our field? Is my whole life just going to be reinventing the wheel? Figuratively of course.5
Well I never got to program in a group during school, but the coolest stuff I learned in general was a bunch of networking exercises.
So since Im new to programming, I thought it was a good idea to make a github. Was that a good call?7
So I've started to use github more the past few days. It's a lil complicated for me but I'm starting to get it down2
I honestly cant get passionate about learning. I need a project I can be passionate about but idk what to do :/
Any suggestions? (Language: python)3
Okay so theres something stopping me from understanding how Object Oriented Programming works. im sorry ahead of time this will get messy..
SO in this case we will use python. well what if the object has more than two functions? like the __init__, func1, then func2 and func2 does something else but doesn't get called or would you have to call of of them like class.func1(), class.func2().
I just don't understand when it comes to how the functions interact or effect each other. and how they would work when you dont call that specific function. I see the use of oop i just cant wrap my head around certain things..17
I am a cs student at first class. Obviously we take an algorithm lesson. However, despite we have learned all things related to OOP , we didn't even learn switch case statement not even bubble sort algorithm or anything related to the algorithms. Because of that in my free time I learn this stuff individually. I know we will learn these things in the second class but it doesn't make sense to program anything without knowing them because you need to use them. You can use standard library but that doesn't mean you don't need to know how that works.
Okay so this has been bugging me. I know object oriented is important and helpful and good over all, but how much do people in the field with jobs use it. And this applies to any language I'm just curious.7
When I was 2 years old my grandfather sat me down in front of his desktop and he taught me to play games load software and go on the internet. I remember playing this Atari emulator a lot and a lot of other children games I loved at the time.
Why did Jason cover himself with bubble wrap?
Because he wanted to make a cross-domain JSONP request.
Just curious, but how long do you guys spend programming a day. This isn't counting working time although you can include working time just declare it first!7
Any SUPER AWESOME patient... JS PRO that wants to help me with a few problems it would be appreciated..
> I don't know how to learn without mimicking what the person is doing and when I try something that's related I cant use the related information and techniques because I either don't remember, dont want to do the literal same thing for something slightly different or dont know how and somethings not working even though it should be.
> I do it one way and when people offer to help its just me getting responses of how it could be done completely different and I dont understand why either way should be used
> Why should I have to generate a webpage or div if I can just use HTML5
>whats the difference between JSON and Arrays???????????
>I am not good with arrays, lists, dictionaries, (I'm stretching to python with lists and dictionaries)
>I recently tried the basic quiz project and it was more complicated and fun than I was giving credit for but I want to do it a different way to show myself I learned but I cant because I dont understand how the person managed to loop through the entire array printing the individual questions and answers to the div. like I understand the parts that use the html tags in the code but I dont know how when or what to use it all
At this point Im just stressing because all I want is a basic skillset with JS but I dont feel like Im learning anything and I dont know how to apply my knowledge or improve upon the programs ive been learning from or trying to make. and arrays have been tripping me up to especially since I have no clue what the difference is between them and JSON and why I should use one over the other and dont get me started how shit I am with manipulating them. FUCK IM STUPID10
Can I use bubble programming platform to write smart contracts on ethereum? I just found out about Bubble1
I ordered a USB Rubber Ducky!! I'm not going to do anything malicious with it, I just want to experiment with it and see what it can do for me!
Okay so update/JS pt2
This is just me throwing my thoughts down and some questions
I've been practicing arrays/objects and loops more and I'm getting more understanding it helps that you can do them both at the same time. But like I need more looping techniques (if that makes sense) like instead of always using for(let i = 0; i <= x.length; i++) and I havent completely learned how or when I use for(x in y)
• what's the difference between class objects and objects that look like a python dictionary
• when should I use classes over the other kind of classes
• any good resources and projects I can practice with loops cause I'm kind of running dry on ideas
and I dont wanna google cause I barely already have no social interaction2
I feel so embarrassed because these are simple and I cant even do majority of them in langauges I'm better and more experienced with (python) I can think out a problem I cant convert that to code. algorithms in general I cant do as well and Ive never done any "big" or "serious" projects so I dont know what I have to show for the last 3 years of my life.12
How do you all plan on how to program a specific project or a specific function, because I find myself struggling on that part..1
So I have a very important question. I don’t really contribute on Github because I’m not good with any code that isn’t mine, I don’t understand it I don’t know why they did it or if I would have come up with it and I especially don’t know how to add on to it or fix it.. am I hopeless?1
So I have a programming question that has always stopped me from making so much. I wanna make stuff in the terminal like Conways game of life and simple games but I don't know how I would track everything like or how to set up the map/board and how everything moves and just all that.. does that make me a bad programmer? I'm fairly new but still..
And no I dont wanna Google it I'm trying to work on being social even if it's online4
Do podcasts, tutorials, or presentations in general help you think differently or help you with your thought processes when programming?4
Okay, so is Linux used more for programming than Windows? And if you do prefer Linux please give me some reasons because I love Linux1
So I wasnt liking Kivy so I decided to get PyQt5 and I'm liking it but I feel like some of the studios widgets take a lot of programming out of the process and I feel like I'm cheating idk but it makes it a lot easier
Alright so this is just me throwing my thoughts down from today cause I need some outlet.
Gonna start programming a lot more than I do now cause I want to improve and I enjoy it.
I need to practice python (which I'm good with) occasionally so I dont lose my magic touch. I was thinking of doing a project on a raspberry pi that uses a camera for object/facial recognition and picking projects like that and occasional small ones I do in js.
Although theres still a lot I have to learn on the DOM side of js. I dont want to be a front end dev cause I dont have that artistic eye so I'm mostly gonna use it for node and small front end stuff
But mostly I need to be able to grasp more from tutorials, examples, courses, etc. And understand how and when and why I should use whatever it is.
Also I wanna use someones code to learn but it's never documented well enough for me to know what's happening I'm mostly referring to when theres a library or api I'm unfamiliar with.
Also JS is getting a little boring so hopefully python will help dull that feel6
2019 Dev Resolutions
- Learn the rest of the languages I want to use
- make a game
- make money off something I program
- contribute to a project
- learn and use git
- get a good schedule for programming
- use a few languages in one project
- be better than I am now
- not be so hard on myself
- publish software/website/game
Building up me getting off my break of programming by doing a few small exercises each day testing new small front end stuff (since that's what I'm learning rn)
Okay so I want other opinions. So I've been studying for C++ competition and I don't know how to keep learning the language.. for python I just kept finding projects to do or picked a module to learn. But with C++ I was gonna work on the <random> and <string> libraries but after that I have no clue :/13
I wish devRant had a friend tab where you can have a friends list to see their posts so you can follow people posts you like and a feature where you can message them1
I'm starting DIY electronic projects soon and in really excited. Although I'm gonna have to try to balance learning Web dev and C now. But other than that it should be fun!
I need to get better at focusing when on a project, when sumns wrong and I've exhausted all my efforts i usually look it up or ask if someone can help. I wanna get focused and caught in my work but I get distracted so easy.
The other day I was working on a small project and spent hours on a small function which was going well for a while but i felt like I was wasting my time because I was spending hours on something that was only around 15-20 lines although I'm proud of how far I got but I still feel weak for not being able to create something big like basically everyone else can 😅 especially if I want to make it in the programming world4
Everyone's stressing and regretting not buying/investing in Bitcoin when it was hella cheap way back when and now it's even harder to join in with the whole bubble view.
Don't mind me and my Forex though. I'm sticking with the other traders of actual currencies.1
Uh so I can’t really find a clear answer to this but, can you program iOS apps with C# or not because I’m only seeing shit on fuckin Swift. More like swiftly beating myself to death with a wooden bat11
Am I the only one that feels like they're cheating when they use libraries like Angular to make stuff easier? I dont want to feel like that but it just seems to happen :/3
So I’ve been enjoying JS but I hadn’t programmed in python in a bit so I decided to do a small project but that turned into me putting JS aside and I’m pissed now because that was not my intention so I’m just putting my python down until a learn JS and the other languages I plan on learning cause I gotta get that out of the way
