This guy is the best coworker ever. He analyzes my algorithms, advises me when to eat or take breaks, and reminds me not to take life too seriously. He's pretty helpful with debugging too.11
-
So as new user I used devrant straight for 6 hours and this happened.
Am I the only one who thinks this helpful tip should be given at 3rd upvote and not 80th?7 -
Ok, rubber ducks are ducking helpful, but I moved to use actual ducks.
If you are currently stuck somewhere where your rubber-mate cannot help out, feel free to ask. I’ll forward.14 -
Fuck the cookie warnings on websites!
They don't do anything helpful and are just fucking annoying. Especially on some websites where they take up half og the fucking screen.15 -
If you ask a question in a forum and figure out the answer yourself, for the love of God, please post the fricking answer.
"Never mind" is not at all helpful. Ugh. Stop being selfish peasants.2 -
Something helpful if you've just started learning programming it'll help you understand most popular programming languages why it's used and how much you can expect as a payment.

No, dear M$, I can't tell you if sth is helpful after spening 5s on page, especially if 4s were spent loading the content!!!2

It's my first day here and I LOVE this place. Everyone is so awesome and helpful and smart! Thanks for making me feel at home! <311

Girlfriend was making science homework while suddenly this appeared. Real helpful. What a great developer must that be.4

VLC because it really is damn good. The only player which gives you a nice looking interface irrespective of the windowing system it runs upon - Gnome, KDE, XFCE, MS-Windows, Mac. And that 200% boost in audio is really helpful with files having very low audio.13

Someone just downvoted four of my answers on Stackoverflow just because I commented on one of his answers that "please include some description, just code won't be helpful"

I just LOVE posting questions in online forums and getting some amazingly helpful human being answering; "No idea, sorry."
WELL THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR AMAZING INPUT!!!2 -
I love how united this community is.
Everyone cares about everyone.
Everyone understands everyone's troubles.
"Run Away" seems to be the most popular and helpful advice anyone and everyone gives. 😆1 -
@dfox & @trogus
Just finished reading your app update and I must say that I'm very impressed with the number of changes that have come out in the past six or so weeks. Good job guys and keep up the good work!
PS an autocomplete '@' mention feature would be really helpful.1 -
We mistakenly think that you need motivation to start something. The reality is that often you just need to start and then the motivation will come. And when it goes away again, you just keep on going. Because while it sure is helpful, you are still capable of doing something without.3

Aww SwiftKey, after two letters youre suggesting the right password, that's so nice of you...
Wait a minute... WHY DO YOU EVEN KNOW THAT?
You're not a password manager and you don't do that with other passwords, what's wrong with you?4 -
Nature gave me a real life 🦆 debugging friend. He wasn't really helpful though. He flew away shortly after. Probably got a call from a more desperate dev.3

I know a lot of you already know/do this, but to those of you who don't - I know it has saved me more than once:
If you use SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio) - when connecting to a server, before you hit the "connect" button, under options, choose a color to represent which server you are connecting to. I personally use stoplight colors: red = prod, yellow = QA, green = dev....this way, it helps you realize what server you are connected to, minimizing our dreaded "oh shit" moments....lol
Hopefully this helps someone ☺6 -
People who ask a question on stackOverflow and comment a minute later with " it's cool I solved it " are the biggest ass holes in the whole world , come on... How about sharing so some1 else might find your post helpful ... 😡4
-
For the love of God use descriptive variable names. I dont care if it is 15 characters long instead of 5. Besides any halfway modern IDE does auto completion.
"tTime" is not helpful. Target time? Test time? Total time? Tea time? Turtle Timmy? No clue...21 -
I just finish "rebuilding" a page that I have built last year. My Js file (jQuery) went from 1200+ lines to 600..
I rewrite everything, the functionality is the same but the code is mush more cleaner.
Soo bad and redundant code.
Although comments where very helpful.
Feels good. -
To whom it may concern,
When I say I use Linux, please do not presume that I mean Ubuntu or other Debian derivates. If you send me instructions like 'apt-get update' you are not being helpful.
Thank you.6 -
I just thought this would be a good place to find beta testers. Mainly because the developer is prone to get bored and if they encounter a bug they will be a lot more helpful than "its not working"
-
Good guy me. Had an issue and no helpful answers were provided on Stack Overflow. Found a solution, and posted my answer, even the question is 6 months old.4

The codebase I'm working with hss rarely comments on it. But when there are comments written they are shit like:
//Kill Matt
//don't ask me where that hard-coded value came from, it just works
//we have to add the elements to the fucking list
Reeeeally helpful. Yep.2 -
For all those that saw my previous post about Facebook embedding tracking metadata into photos: I just released a website for my project that allows you to obfuscate the tracking data in your browser.

Disable Windows 10 Auto Updates
1. Run gpedit.msc
2. Set "notify for download and notify for install" according to this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/VjpeDHWh.jpg

"An error has occurred. Please try again."
WELL WHAT THE FUCK IS THE ERROR? WHY CANT YOU TELL ME WHAT I NEED TO DO TO FIX THE ERROR YOU PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT.
I shouldn't need to submit a form 23 fucking times, changing field values each time, because of an uninformative fucking error message.3 -
Everytime a rant about a tech problem appears, most of you try to be supporting and helpful in the comments section.
Thank you for beeing nice to people who suffer from work related pain.3 -
I hate it when people put time into making their docs look nice but none into making them actually helpful!3

The developer's conundrum:

Today the corporate proxy decided to flake out on me. Every single external site was blocked.
I was shown a very helpful page informing me the site I wanted to visit was blocked. If I had legit need to access the site or believe the site was blocked in error I could contact IT via a helpful link.
And yeah, the IT support site was blocked by the proxy too.1 -

I know those are different beasts, but for the harder/specific questions I'm finding more resources on the repos than on SO.2 -
Want to fuck other developers? Then make a quite probable project name illegal without documenting it, nor providing any helpful information in the error messages.
I tried to name my Flutter test project flutter_test. Turns out that that name is reserved (it's a package). Fml. 🤦🏽♂️4 -
Being helpful and a c++ programmer has led me to trying to add a (tiny) feature to cpython.

One of my colleagues tried upgrading his Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10... he had multiple issues getting the installer to run but got past it after a couple of hours troubleshooting.
He left for lunch when it got to 81% installed, and got back an hour later to find "Something Happened" proudly displaying on-screen.
He clicked 'okay' and it just started rolling back to Windows 7 with no explanation as to what happened, or even any error codes!
Thanks Windows!
As helpful as always!5 -

Do you know that feeling when you ask for help in a chat or board and some guy posts a link to the first google result by just googling what you asked?
I mean does that guy think that I can’t use google?
I wouldn’t ask for help if the answer could be found in google in a few seconds.
On the other hand you can’t be mad because he only wanted to help you.7 -
Cheers to all Javascript programmers 🥂
Suggesting a book called *You don t know JS* which aims to teach javascript right from the very basics to most advanced concepts, hence is helpful for both beginners & maestros.

Go fuck yourself make.
Don't tell me you haven't got a build rule for a .hex file because I'm fucking looking at it. I added a single file name to a variable and now magically you can't find any of my fucking build rules.

AWS write awful docs. The .Net SQS example code has spelling mistakes, bits missing and doesn't work.

I've played around a bit with illustrating the SOLID principles (Single Responsibility, Open/Closed, etc., you know).

My golden rule of debugging - Isolate issues by changing one unit of code at a time. Keep everything else constant.
Second most helpful rule - pick up the habit of fixing things by reviewing code, instead of relying on debuggers. Make you so much more aware of possible pitfalls while coding itself.1 -

I recently came across the "Xposed framework" for Android and it seems really really interesting to me.
I use it to playback songs on YouTube (app) while accessing other apps (simple but helpful) . Anybody else with any modules/experience/knowledge about the same, do comment, I wanna know more about it.7 -

gulp started throwing premature close on useref:dist yesterday
said it was on a dependency
spent whole afternoon checking gulp issues and reviewing dependencies
as it turns out, it was nothing even remotely related to the error message
it was a spread operator used to merge objects
why must the Lord test me like that -
Does anyone have any helpful tips for developing in react native for Android? Because I'm entirely frustrated with how long it takes to make negative progress.5

Paper and pencil. It's always helpful to draw little sketches and write short notes that help you to understand a problem you are trying to solve. I think mostly because you stop staring at your code and you start thinking about the problem in a different way.

Can anyone recommend cheap Windows-based hosting, ideally to run a couple of Umbraco instances for personal projects? I'm currently looking at the Cloud One Tier of asphostportal.com which has some good reviews, but if anyone knows of a better/cheaper hosting provider that'd be super helpful 😁1

People replying to a restaurant ad on Facebook asking where the restaurant is located (not related to dev but I built the restaurant's website and have access to Facebook admin stuff). Saying things like "It would be helpful to post the address." Bitch, it would be helpful if your lazy ass could do so much as simply fucking click the Facebook page, visit the website, or just fucking Google the restaurant (it's a very unique name and cuisine, especially for this area) and you'll find the address in a split second. Some people can't do shit if the information isn't shoved in their face in big bold flashing letters... even then I don't have hope for people like this.10

Do anyone have any experience with Android's "Telephony" API? Google' documentation is not all that helpful when trying to get this to work and other resources are far from available.
Working with a client, so can't go in to too many details. (According to them, it's top secret...🤫)

Does anyone know any good resources that walk you through building a image localization neural network(preferably in tensorflow)? Something that talks you through the though process behind the network design decisions and perhaps examples of training data used to train the network? It seems like every search result is just an example of how to download a premade network and it's weights which from a learning perspective is not very helpful. I'de really love to see one of the Yolo version walked through and trained but honestly any localization would be helpful.
