My girlfriend is amazing:
After a long uphill battle trying to finish a huge open source project I started months ago. She noticed I was getting a little deflated.
So she donated a small amount to the donation page to lift my spirits.
She wanted to do it secretly but didn't know that it wasnt anonymous.
The little things spur us on.40 -
Code works.
Rename a variable for clarity.
Third-party lib behaves differently, breaks things.
Change the var names back.
Still broken.
Stash changes and checkout previous commit.
Everything works.
Diff with stash.
No notable changes. (some comments, ...)
Checkout branch again, pop stash.
Broken again.
... What?19 -
- had an interview going well
- existential crisis kicks in
- fear of being found out to be a fraud and phoney kicks in
This is why I can't have nice things! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯32 -
“Master” in “master branch” has nothing to do with slavery. It is obvious. There were no “slave” branches.
If you insist that this is offensive to black people, and I cannot comprehend it, because I am not black, you imply that there are things black people can understand, and white people cannot, thus, the intellectual capacity to comprehend things depends on race. This is the definition of racism. You’re racist. Congratulations.
there ya go, dismantled it for ya34 -
It's crazy to me how much of a misguided superiority complex some CS college kids have.

Is it really unreasonable that I wish aws would just name their fucking products after what they are? Why the fuck is dns called route 53? Why the fuck is a vm an elastic cloud compute node? Stop being pretentious dicks and just name things what they are!
Am I being unreasonable?7 -
i got high praise for my work today, and i can't understand why 😂
i consider my work average at best, but my boss told me everyone sings my praises behind my back. i wonder how dire things must be that this is considered excellent11 -
The worst part about being a web developer is when clients ruin a perfectly good website by asking for dumb things, even though you told them it's either:
a) near impossible
b) not useful/helpful to users
c) deprecated/no longer used code/techniques
e) will harm performance and SEO
d) just plain stupid8 -
Recruiter: "How do you see the future of the field?"
Me: "... How do I see the future of neurorobotics?"
Hom: "Yes"
Me: 😐 *baffled*8 -
I often hear
You will be promoted as lead if you act like it or take charge
That is really stupid, there is difference between responsibly and effort.
Why would i put effort for things that i am not getting paid for ?
Fuck that6 -
Early in my database developer career, I started a new job at a mortgage company. I was poking around the code, just getting familiar with things.
One script identified properties in certain states/territories for special handling:
AND STATECD IN (‘PR’, ‘HI’, ‘AL’)
I thought “Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and ALABAMA?? One of these things is not like the other…”
Yeah, that was supposed to be Alaska (AK)… But they’ve been special-handling properties in Alabama for years. -
They shut down the project I was working for, Again!
Yes, I learned a lot
Yes, I felt important
Yes, it was something I am proud of
But damn...
For once, I want the things I do to see the light of day...9 -
It's bloody 2019 and the navigation bars on smartphones are still on top. There's no denying that Windows phones did get some things right. I miss them.35

>1 year of living and working with a sluggish, overheating and possibly throttling XPS 15.
Finally setting aside 20 minutes to pop the panel off, ripping the fans out and blow out the choking cakes of dust.
It's like new again now. FFS, when will I learn not to postpone things eternally.9 -

start teaching people how and why to delete code instead of teaching them only how to write code
compare functional and object oriented languages as well as high level and low level languages and explain what are advantages of using certain language without going into the syntax
let people do mistakes and don’t punish people for making them but let them explain what happened, if they know what was the cause of mistake it is worth ten times than doing things correctly
mix teams per period of time instead of per project
make showcases how to modify ugly code to pretty one and what are the steps and what patterns people should look after
teach by not showing old stuff but showing where old stuff exists in modern things and why it’s important there and what’s the purpose of doing things certain way instead of flat theory based on ancient examples1 -
I loved her from the beginning.
I devoted so much of my time to her. She told me her heart doesn't point to anyone. Yet I tried to reach her.
Everytime I ask her what's wrong, she gives me the same answer. I tried to be different. I changed things. Yet she said the same thing again today: "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"4 -
I’m pissed.
I had previously ranted about being assigned to a very messy project. I spent 3-4 months alone adding features and CLEANING things up.
Recently, there had been talks about a new major development phase on this project. But things lingered and the day before I’m to go on vacation, I get the news that this new phase starts in 2 days. Since I’m going to be on break they’re putting other guys on the project who don’t know anything about it.
Fast forward two weeks later.
I’m back from vacation.
I find out one of the guys has strong opinions about doing things certains ways… but unfortunately they are "ways" of unnecessary complexity, abstraction and verbosity.
After just a couple of weeks I’m already lost in the complexity of his code, which supports features of VERY LOW complexity. Fuck, has he ever heard of KISS? Has anybody heard of it where I work?
Now I have to spend my mental energy trying to make sense of this pile of crap rather than actually spending it getting things done.1 -

I see so many freaking excel sheets where a database should have been used that I wouldn't be surprised if, at the veeeeery bottom of all things, the entire global financial system runs based on a single excel sheet made by a dude in the 90s. And since then poorly maintained.11

Do you get random nostalgic moments when you see things you saw as a child?
i sometimes put on the early Harry Potter movies, since they came out as I was reading the books as a child. They fucking work miracles for my mood. But that is just me.Currently watching Prisoner of Azkaban, my favorite one, as I work. Gives me warm feelings as much as the rest. The entire series is my favorite, regardless of things that were changed.7 -
I see now why people can despise WordPress.
2nd week of just pure learning and I gotta say that I can see that the way it was built was paved with good intentions, but it's clear people wanted more from it and things have only gotten more and more messy.
Honestly, it's fine. It's not my favorite stack, but whatevs.16 -

I met a programmer in an online dating app some months ago. She worked with golang, and things were going nicely with us talking a bit.

Hi, here's how things are working now:
– Me and MerryBandOfDumbasses1 are doing project 1.
– Me and MerryBandOfDumbasses2 are doing project 2.
– Me has project 3 for work with this adorable boss I'd hate to disappoint. (Anyone watching Brooklyn99? He's my Captain Holt)
– Me has to deal with thesis.
– Me is having trouble keeping her head above the water. (emotionally speaking)
Conclusion: Me is fucked.
The end.
*grins for the camera* 😀6 -
Engineering managers will say things like -
- "I'll let the team decide what's best for them" & "code quality is our primary goal" -
but then they'll shoot down any & all requests to go back to some old piece of code and refactor/clean it, because of "deadlines".
Hypocrites, all of them.5 -
I'm a perfectionist and like things done the right way, but had to learn to let go and remind myself it's the clients site and their choice. No amount of logic and reasoning is going to stop a hellbent client from wanting the dumb things they want, even when it's bad for design, performance, usability and/or SEO.1

Wasted a bloody hour today wondering why a route was giving weird errors...
Turns out I inadvertently wrote a for ... in ... loop instead of a for ... of ...
It's my bloody fault for being retarded, but I swear this unholy mix of JavaScript and python I'm dealing with is doing bad things to my brain. 😔5 -
The Linux sound system scene looks like it was deliberately designed to be useless.
ALSA sees all my inputs and outputs, but it can't be used to learn (or control) anything about software and where their sound goes. Plus it's near impossible to identify inputs and outputs.
PulseAudio does all sorts of things automatically, but it's hard to configure and has high latency.
JACK is very convenient to configure, has great command line tools (like you'd expect from Linux), is scriptable, but it doesn't see things.
Generally, all of these see the others as a single output and a single input, which none of them are.11 -

Things that are no big deal but piss me off endlessly:
People who can't mute their mic in online meetings.

I hate office politics so fucking much. Now that most people aren’t face to face and everything is over chat and voice calls, people seem to get very weird about things that might be said and blow things out of context. Duolingo used to be better. New updates and restrictions are shit. Specially the whole "take a heart away for a mistake, five mistakes and you can't use the app for hours". Like, I get it, you couldn't manage the traffic. But this is ridiculous. Also, where did the lesson overviews go?12

And the time has come, my gf and I are just a month away from deploying yet we still call the project "project".
Usually solutions jump in my head when programming at least once a day but I can't name the damn thing for the love of God! It's the first night since we started development I have felt clueless.
Plus I don't want to be "that guy" that just gives it a generic name, like there's already a "ratemyprofessors", professor this, teacher that, fuck that shit!
I'm brain dead.9 -
I was nearly about to punch someone today.
So, this guy is taking issues with my 3D model, yeah? But it's not the model he has issues with, it's that "why doesn't this include the stuff """I""" need?". Well, you giant man-baby could have actually visited the model like two months ago when I made it, but noooooooo let's leave it until a few days before his massive demonstration is due. Plus, the pieces I received from someone else also didn't have this info, so, like, where do you want me to get them from? Oh, from the "other" model that was literally delivered by a third party like two weeks ago? Nice. Hold onto your breath while I go rip that model apart piece by piece and put the info you need, in the format you need, in this model. 😒
... Jeeeeeez. And my computer broke down two days ago. 🤦
Could this get any worse? It could, but didn't. Luckily, someone else gave me a hand, so now I just need to go to work on a weekend just to install unreal engine again just so I can rip the second model apart for this one piece that he "really needs".
The worst part? I'm sure all of this tantrum is actually so he can justify why his work is ... well... "not working".
Let the finger pointing games begin!
(Actually not afraid of that at all. My boss knows better so yolo)
Idk, my brain is eeeeeeeeeek.3 -

Well, no..
Get up to 23Gb in use, and things start to break..
Today, oh it just shut off the main video card, no biggie..

do you guys think it's dangerous territory to do something you weren't asked to do at work?
like, i know i can improve some minor inconveniences, but they are not the priority. on the other hand, we always have a bigger problem and the little stuff gets left behind. idk, i just want to leave things better than i found them9 -

There are two weeks left until the PhD application results are published. But I'm having such awful nervous breakdowns. I don't even know, if it's anxiety or if I'm literally dying inside from something else. From an almost-heart-attack today when I got a trivial and unrelated bad-news email, to keep having weird dreams about things like end of the world and post-apocalyptic life, or being jumpy all the time.
... And it's not like it's life or death, I know that. I know that I can do other things if this doesn't stick. I know things will workout the way they should; I know all of those. But there's just something destroying my physical and mental health right now, and I don't even know if it's just the anxiety for the next big step in my career, or something else, or how I should deal with it.
... Anyways, amannoyed.7 -
Things i have changed during this quarantine :

Had a bad dream one night that my bosses were going to run me through the ringer on some stuff that I needed to do better.

It would’ve been nice if my premonition could have had a few days gap between dream and reality so I’d have had some time to fix things first. -

Video social calls are the absolute worst. I have a shitty Intel 11 series chip in my laptop; which is a waste of sand. My laptop often slows to a crawl on calls, so I can't work on things, and I have to listen to them all prattle on about kids and things I don't care at all about. Meetings entire day. Management/PMs fucked things up and forgot an ENTIRE system. They just spend A YEAR for the requirements. A YEAR!!! Just unbelievable. After years of experience in the industry, I find that I have 1000% more skills and 2000% more knowledge.
I have come to the realization that I need to do 500% less things and demonstrate 1000% less knowledge.
2022, Lex Lexter, a collection of wisdom3 -
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that will say gaming.
Because of gaming I've been in contact with computers a lot and learned a bunch of things that would become useful as the base for learning coding.
Things as simple as using and abusing the file system, file locking and files principles, Googling stuff, etc.4 -
I woke up set on finishing this project today. Woke up at 7.30, started working right away (almost... ok I checked reddit).
So far all I finished is the list of things left to be done.
It's gonna be a long day -
What things do people around you keep repeating related to programming?
For me it is surely "linux is soooo permissive", which is true but still funny when people start saying it unrelated and simply as a mean to jokingly explain why something doesn't work how is supposed to. Even if the problem is not even on a computer4 -
I’d like to have a DevRant dataset so I can make some great visualizations, text analysis, etc. of the things we hate the most. This is top priority, thanks in advance.5
-
I HATE being a fullstack dev. I am responsible for everything. Its so exhausting because you cant focus on one thing.
Or its just me not being able to organize things....5 -
I love how I watch a tut for a specific problem and then go down to the comments and see ppl say things like, "Awesome, dude you saved me hours. Now, can u show me how to do, this, this, this, this and this?" 🤦🏾 I'm like, bruh, u can't figure out how to do at least one of those things on your own??? 💀2
-
The things I know how to do I'm always least likely to even start and definitely unlikely to finish.
But anything I need to trial and error or experiment and learn I'm way more likely to waste days on for a coin flip of an eventual result2 -
you know that feel when you're in one or two weeks of vacation and one day, you look into the mirror and you notice you look like 5 years younger and also you're able to actually enjoy things in life and try out new things, and you wonder, what am i doing with my life...2
-
A combination of life literally pushing me in this direction and my own interest in everything that is smart or complex.
But, I hope it serves as a stepping stone for me to achieve better things than being "just a programmer/dev" -
"Abstract all the things!"
Theres so much fucking abstraction and so many different ways to abstract shit that I don't fucking know how anything works anymore.
Fuck this5 -
It's sad how easy it is to fool people by switching between absolute and relative values.
3 million people did this, 3 million people own that, 3 million people agree on those things, it all seems significant - but 1% of US population sounds completely marginal and irrelevant...1 -
Hey peps! One quick question on the OS side: whats your opinion on Manjaro vs Antergos? Both seem quite wholesome on both working and casual aspects and i can't find many things a little less unbiased about them :/4
-
Mathematics feels like a giant old undocumented codebase in that, yes you could read the comments of each function, you would rather have a nice complete, well formatted docs page that in human terms explains how things work together, why they are here and where they came from.13
-
Be interested. Try to do whatever you're doing the best way possible. Do research, keep up, roll with the punches, and don't take things personally. If you like being a dev, it should be easy to find the fun in it.
-
Anyone here have any experience with PHP? I've never really used it myself and don't really want to, but I do look at things like http://phpsadness.com/ from time to time.
These complaints range from "fairly minor" (some stuff like function names/args and some syntsx complaints) to "how is this language even used" (segfaults in a scripting language, broken things like "create_function", comparisons and ternanry operator).
Of course, i don't program in PHP so i don't know how bad any of this actually is.
Anyone actually use PHP or did use it previously?20 -
Oh wow, fuck Ansible
Turns out there is no way to automatically undo the things it did, because surely nobody would ever want to remove software...
Now I have a half fucked server that I can manually clean up again 👍12 -
People who specifically attribute all value to people making money are the core problem
So many infant raping pieces of human trash make money
Our system could just work at last and there could be a million things being done better or being finished22 -
Started working in big firm from past 2 months, I was learning about company, its products and what it does. To speed up things I asked one senior who has 8 yrs of exp, she said she also has no clue how things work here......
Now I know why I was hired as an urgent requirement......1 -
Anyone do me a favour. Curse at me, and say the worst things to me, my critics.
Not some soft shit, pampering bullshit, say some harshest shit.22 -
AAARGH
I fucking give up. I can't debug my code, and all my programmer friends have better things to do than to help me. The fact that portaudio requires me to store things as void* makes it even more convoluted if possible.3 -
Do you know what is both a good and a bad thing about old tech like IRC ? vs Slack, Twitter, Facebook, Email, etc for socializing ?
excepting that they were recording most channels traffic with bots, you could miss things.
things changed.
it was more living you expected people to be there to have real conversations. and then the conversations unless fragments were saved, disappeared on there own.
it made you have to remember things.2 -
If I could just stop screening things up at work, that’d be greeeeeaaaaat.
Seriously, I’m in the worst brain fog of my life these past 6 months. I feel like I’m on the edge of dementia. The stuff that used to come naturally to me just feels foreign and incomprehensible. My judgment is so flawed right now.4 -
Good one 😅,
Indeed #Debugging isn't always that much fun, but I have learned a lot by debugging the code and still learning so many things. It helps us become better.
Agree?1 -
Is thinking about P=NP kinda like thinking about "the game"?
At least thinking about P=NP is useful for thinking about the nature of things.
Congrats on winning the game btw.7 -
I hate cloud corps like GCP for pushing down our throats half-baked solutions as Datastore. Why can't i do a simple "NOT IN [list]" query ffs?! Why do you have multiple syntax for doing the same things? Where is your fkin user guide for everything your app can/cannot do? fk u goog2

I found my some documents about my dad on Ancestry and showed them to him because they’re things he’d like to see. His high school yearbook photo. His college yearbook photo. The flight manifest from when his family came over from Puerto Rico.
He was happy to see these. He doesn’t have his yearbooks because they’re not things he would have been able to afford at the time. The flight manifest helped put some memories together because he was a little boy when his family moved.
He did get a little freaked out when I explained why Ancestry had these things. But I think that outweighs the joy of discovery.1 -
Things nobody told you when starting to learn a new programming language:
Congratulations! You became a collector. From now on you will collect websites, books and a ton of related software.4 -
Code what you enjoy. Don't code what people say will "improve your skills." If something interests you, learn about it. Also, try broadening your interests. Learn new things that you may not have thought about before. It might be fun.4

I am now sorry for managers. Management is a miserable, horrible job where you have to deal with unending amounts of bullshit from all sides, and run a kindergarten where every other employee will give you their super special list of things that they don't like, or triggers them. No wonder all managers are terrible, who would ever want to do this shit job?
-
I dont like programming languages where "there is more than one way to do it".
There should be one way to do things, it makes it easy for developers to understand code others have written, it makes it easier to start working in new teams etc etc.23 -
Slacking off on tests for medium size projects. I have one project that I consider a major achievement as of today, the NPM package @lbfalvy/react-await. It has like two tests and it does a _lot_ more than two things.
Don't get me wrong, I test it thoroughly, but not in an automated way.2 -
I'm studying 10-12 hours every day, and it feels like I'm stuck in a loop that every time I learn something new I feel like I have to learn other 10 things at the same time. At least I finally found something useful to do while I don't find a job.2
-
Deliberate and fully conscious procrastination. Distract yourself deliberately every few hours. Do something completely different in your free time and when procrastinating.
Also, take your time, think things through.
When debugging obvious typos and "impossible" causalities that you still not see after reparsing the code the tenths time - calm down, procrastinate a bit, and restart debugging - discarding assumptions and result from the previous tries.4 -
I did some online shopping on the weekend. And oh man, this retailer’s checkout had so many problems.
I placed an order for a 2022 edition of their magazine. My confirmation page lists the 2020 edition. I didn’t get a confirmation email and I’m sure my email was right.
I chat with customer service and they said my order was for their car buying guide. You bet my my response was what the fuck.3 -
From current and past events, I have seen how people do things because it’s hip. Not doing any real thing to help or alleviate the sufferings of the victims but going the easier way to just flow with the trend. Yuck!3

My JIRA fanatic manager: log whatever you do during the day, even the smallest things are important. and you have all the material needed for next day's standup meet.
me, on a particular tuesday:
had lunch
peed thrice
bitched about an unreasonable bug raised by the testing team
listened to Rihanna's song Diamonds
had four mugs of coffee
, among various other things.
next day.
manager: so, ssup?
me: eh, didn't do much yesterday. was one of those down days I guess.
Guess who was asked to write "didn't do much yesterday" on all the JIRA tickets assigned to him? -
Why the hell is html/css in email so messed up. Html looks nice on itself. But different things brake when you try to send it through different clients. Even between different versions of the same one (looking at you Outlook)7

Everytime I wake up,
I question whether if I'm stuck in time or not. All my life I've wanted to go out and explore, not be isolated in this tiny place called home that I knew far too well.
I wanted to be in a place with a different timezone, a place with languages that I don't know. That's where I want to go.
I feel as if everyday remains the same and I'm slowly going insane. I want to run, too see, to feel a different kind of breeze.
Yet there's so many limitations and hindrance; Money, that's all I need, money that I don't have. It's so sad that something that's claimed to be insignificant for happiness could limit you from so many things.
The things that will make you happy, the things that will make you learn.
All because of one stupid limitation and all your dreams, crash
and burn.7 -

I don't know how to do what I'm thinking, and I can feel the impulsive, curious part of my brain preparing to spend hours reading, testing, and researching things.

I fixed lots of things I didn't know needed fixing..
But I don't know yet if I've fixed the things I started off needing to fix !
Along the way I discovered all manner of things..25 -
Been 6 months at this one company and still don't have a good grasp on many things, I'm also almost absolutely useless in oncall and always loop in someone else, it's like my brain just afks.
I'm sure everyone has that one dumb Dev on their team, guess it's me this time, I can sense the annoyance from my teammates by my stupidity so far, there's just so much to learn about domains and specific things that only come up when things break, idk how to gain proper knowledge without someone babysitting me and Its shit for someone to do that (I'm not a junior Dev)14 -
I fucking hate people who keep changing little things when the big things don't change for the better to annoy me !

I can't integrate this damn camera (with a system) and I should get over it already, but I'm anal about having things the way I want them so I guess I'll suffer a bit longer before giving up.

Why did my Windows 11 computer decide to go into recovery mode and let me do nothing but completely reset my computer 😡 this is why you back things up. Just gonna sit here for hours now while reinstalling visual studio etc 😭8

stop thinking big and trying to fix, predict and solve every problem and accept the fact that I lost the battle so I can focus on small things instead of big ideas that would never happen

Football/futbol/soccer analogy:
Frontend engineers are like strikers - you see their work, good and bad, and you don’t notice how many contribute to their success. Backend engineers are like goalies - you only really notice when they do a _bad_ job and don’t see how many things contribute to their failure.6 -

There is something off with the M1 MacBook. I can’t pinpoint but there is definitely something different about the experience. Not necessarily in a positive way. The interaction feels lacking of certain things. Don’t know. It is what it is.
What I can point out is that the notification functionality is definitely a little off. Could be Monterey’s fault.8 -

Why the fuck isnt pythons tabbed loop thing something that's configurable?
So many things to like about python, but is there someone on this planet who actually likes this feature?
Trying to use it in Jupyter notebook (browser) is a nightmare, because tab will focus on next ui element.
Or am i missing something?13 -
Anyone ever struggle with tokenizers? I'm writing one by hand and it's frustrating mr so much, because at times I think my logic gets flawed somewhere inside a good loop and things get slipped or missed I don't know how to explain it.5

- Learn at least one new programming language
- Start a new personal project
- Push things into my GitHub
- Complete one certification
- Exercise
- Practice mindfulness
- Read atleast 1 book per quarter -
(Graduate dev) Got a bug ticket assigned this morning, spent about an hour fixing it on .net and angular side thinking yay (confidence boost)!
.... then 3 hours of html/css cause someone thought it's a good idea to hard-code stuff in a way that makes it impossible to dynamically show/hide content without having to hard-code where things go (bye bye confidence).1 -
I try to wake up early, do some productive things, try my hands on different stuffs in life, learn a new skill, switch to a new career field, become famous and change the world... but these damned bug fixes make me stay up at nights and so goes the cycle of my life.😑

I wonder which is worse:
1. all day long every day doing things you MUST do and running out of hours in the day to do them all
2. all day long every day doing things you WANT to do and running out of hours in the day to do them all1 -
When you get more managerial corrections on your projects and approaches to things than your coworkers do BECAUSE YOUR WORK IS SO MUCH HARDER AND MORE TECHNICAL THAN EVERYONE ELSE’S but you still end up looking dumb because you’re the only one being corrected on stuff.

Symfony is a mess. The source code is a mess with classes that are never in the right place. The book is a mess. It skips over things that pretty much break the project it's supposed to build.
Not only they haven't fixed it (current book is pretty much a rehash of last book), they think they can actually sell that crap.2 -

Finally doing development things again... but maybe choosing to work on a Linux port for a Nintendo console was a bad idea. I don't think any of this is gonna get merged up any time soon...
why are these things always so ridiculously cursed?3 -
the simplest things are hard to fixate on when you're exhausted and know people tried to steal them many times for no reason.3

I'm disturbed at the mere thought of doing something useful, so I'm writing a webdav server. It might eventually make sense in the context of the umbrella project I'm doing to make use of the simple things I can write, but for now it's just reinventing the wheel.

The thing about startups is that you have the opportunity to be involved in a lot of different things. I easily get bored with repetitively doing almost the same thing day in day out.
In my current company, I have been working on the same mobile app for close to two years. It’s the same basic thing, build UI, make API calls, and fix bugs. I am so bored that I’m fit to climb a wall. Anyways, I’ve started applying for backend positions.
But then startups are volatile and things are almost always unorganised.2 -
Why can robots do complex calculations in seconds but humans cant and why can humans do simple things such as playing basketball or run but robots cant ?
Is it that running and playing basketball are complex tasks but easy for us
Similarly calculations are complex tasks that are easy for robots but complex for humans10 -
Can someone, with senior experience in the whole software development process at a large scale company, come talk some sense into our development managers on how you properly run a development company??
The way we do things is wrong in so many ways, but I can't get trough to them, maybe someone with more authority will.
Like im talking about things like, no version control, being totally blindsighted to technical debt, no code review, telling me we shouldnt use 3rd party tools to track issues, tasks, etc.
Are there like intervention companies for this?8 -
So i have learn android studio course (kotlin) for the basic.I've been practicing for some things, like recyclerview, ViewModel, bottomsheet, fragment, nav view,Firebase auth, intent and some other basic stuff.right now I'm confused what to do next, if it continues I don't know what to learn next, I know there's still a lot of things to learn, it's just that I don't know what it is, I'm trying to find out what apps a beginner should make like me, but most of the suggestions are still far from my abilities, such as making a calculator. So can you give a little advice to beginners like me, thanks6

Resumes are dumb. Nothing you did in anything but the prior job is really of any consequence for the next job. Especially if the prior job was more than a year. Things change too much. The stuff you did more recently is going to be what people are generally hiring for.2

What web frontend library or framework do you recommend for the majority of web development projects and why?
Let's say you are a freelancer and you get all sorts of web dev jobs all the time from all sorts of customers.
Is there a go-to library for you, or is it "it depends" as all things CS are?3 -
Why Windows 11 is trying to be mac os (at least look wise)? The more I use it, the more I am getting irritate. All the ui from windows 10 is still there, so why add extra sugar candy just to look different than windows 10. Many things require more clicks and more typing now.9

Sorry, I'm very stupid and know nothing about cloud development.
My need: I have a php code I want to put in cloud and launch as a task every N minutes automatically until I decide to stop it.
What is the best solution to do it, do you know some good services that allows me to do it easily, quickly and affordably?
For ex. "Heroku" allows me to do something like that?
Thanks in advance, I would really like to learn this part of software development I never touched in my life.
P.S. It's not a service I want to put online with access for users, it's just a "script" I want to have running on a server until I'm done.6 -
You may see red as red and I see it has green but we would never know were both seeing different things.

Once upon a time I offhandedly suggested a few beautiful things that were constructed
People who were taking responsibility for the ideas who do not understand delight simple Innocent delight and a desire to see what I created before had some miniatures cheaply constructed
The desire is for things that endure in memory
All they wanted was to mechanically and immediately work on something else like it was some kind of souless side show
All I wanted was a few measly days of rest and to look over the small shadows of my ideas
This is why 99% of all new ideas suck2 -

How can a novel emerging challenger software (written in Rust) take me 4 hours to install (still ongoing)?
Today I have decided to give Pijul a go. Pijul describes itself as a theory-sound alternative to Git, which I have wanted to get away from for a while now, due to various reasons -- many of which I saw Pijul advertise to have solved on design level.
So I set away a day to learn Pijul, today. Well, 4 hours after I sat down -- after a number of hilariously wonky failures of "Rust ecosystem" to do the right thing as I had to install Rust with some shell one-liners those insane wizards recommend for installation process (all in the name of "stability but not stagnation") -- Pijul has now been installing with the blasted `cargo` for an hour now (that's after 3 hours of getting to the point where `cargo install pijul` stopped exploding in my face) -- telling me I only have 40 crates more to install. Are they throttling me, perhaps? I don't care -- I should have been installing Pijul from a repository in accordance with my Linux distribution, or -- at worst -- download a BLOODY COMPILED PROGRAM IMAGE.
What is it with the hipster developers today? Everything they get of tools, they subsume and churn out intricate complexities the likes of which we hadn't seen yesterday. Tell me fellow developers who think installation of your software has to require three and a half novel "installation solutions" to which I can't be arsed to be made privy -- do you think your life today is easier than, I don't know -- wrangling with a Makefile and a C compiler (which today thankfully can do rather good job of standards compliance)?
I mean I wouldn't mind Pijul being written in Rust -- but it turns out Rust's advertised elegancy in practice is wrapped in so much "giftwrap" I feel like what desire I had to learn Rust myself, I'll stear well clear.
Here's an advice for developers in general -- an advice continiously ignored for decades -- stop blowing your original scope of delivery in auxilary packages you think you need to reinvent just because you can or because your mom is out of town! For programming languages like Rust this most certainly entails NOT writing your own package manager, with its own package delivery mechanism that has its own configuration file format and virtual machine to configure dependency resolution or what have you!
You wanted to write a programming language that has novel features you think we need? Fine -- write one and stop there. Watch it grow, and watch people who are busy working on other parts (scopes) of software to integrate your offer.
What a shitshow. Stop smuggling alternative package managers, installers, and discombulators with your actual product -- I only want the latter, I don't want the rest of your damn piping, walls, roof and a cathedral on top of it!
Don't be that guy starting with a pin, and ending up with a fucking diorama miniature of a pig farm in Netherlands. Jesus.8 -

The message gets changed to this and the output neurons are the existence of these words likely as a response to the input and BAM chatgpt converts output weighta somehow to full sentences and paragraphs?
I feel I'm missing some important point
Is there well documented code anywhere?19 -
Love me
I have pretty white skin
And nice shapely legs
And say sweet things while giving a hollow smile with a hint of malice behind my eyes *bats eyelashes*20 -
STOP CHANGING THINGS TO BE MORE ANNOYING
SHIP THE CORRECT PARTS NOT DAMAGED ONES
STOP REMOVING MONEY
AND FINE IF THE "GOLDS" WANT MY DICK UP THEIR NETHER PARTS JUST LET THEM HAND THAT OUT

Should be noted these people have some things to make up for since their worthless asses are hogging up the housing yet again and this job is taking advantage of my situation and trying to keep me screwed over therefore collectively these people need to pay or spend several seasons in the street4

You know the symmetry of this insanity is only possible because people do the same things mimicking the novel actions people like John boy took or reproducing things so closely that with memory fading in time basic decay model of forgetting which so far as I can tell may blur details but leave major impressions of even some of the most insignificant things people simply engage in "novel" actions like this rant.
How's it feel to be part of an oversized music box ?
Need to wander somewhere new -
You know when I think back to the ideas I've had and the things I've worked on. I'm having difficulty, with the exception of certain far out projects that were like unattainable, in thinking of anything I've done or thought of that does not involve: data visualization, data gathering, encryption/obfuscation, inventory/storage and/or communication.
am I just unimaginative ?
I did have an idea for a code translator and how it would work and what interfaces you'd have to adopt and how you'd attack implementing things that don't translate well like c++ to js for example. or c++ to c# for that matter ! but I never got far into it. though that would have been attainable as long as you had easy ways of generating bindings.
i mean pathing and navigation were things I thought of too but... that would pretty much be implementing someone else's stuff4 -
To what order of magnitude would be sufficient to step time based functions for physics applications ? Since direct solutions off multivariant co dependent problems usually cant be found until you update things like position velocity and or energy over a very short tike period first. Example being gravitation or electrostatics
Like nano seconds ?12 -
You people do know all this added reorganized convenience in some places if left alone would have made things so easy if the other aspects hasn't been subtle acted by some fags
Less horror more function !2 -
Is there a site for design/ui/ux inspiration and ideas, like an index for ways to do things, cards, tags, selectors, etc?5
-
Hear me out:
Since keras and tf are pretty much schema design rn what if someone made a no-code solution where you drag and drop layers and tweak things in a UI so those data scientists can design it in a UI instead of writing shitty code?5 -
I have to give my dev team a name,
I thought of funny stuff like nullexception, //to do, etc but im really looking for an epic name help out fellow devs something epic and subtly funny27 -
I see different colleague, feel and think that they know how to do while that i am tangled. When i try explain some, i complicate the things and nothing understand me not even i understand me. They have the practice but i have the theory, at the end the practice is more important.

Is it the manager's responsibility or the employer's responsibility to find work? I'm an employee in limbo space. I'm fine spending time to learn things, but feel kinda guilty not picking up stories9

I have $5 linode instance. What open source things should I run? or what applications are you running in your server if any?6
-
How do you handle a colleague who just throws his/her work at you saying that he/she is able to implememt things at his/her side in meetings. And when you ask on personal he/she says not done yet !? Things getting delayed because of that and I don't know what to do ? can you give some advice.....1

Topic: self promotion to get a job as developer in the tech
- CV short with bullet points or include also a brief description of experiences, skills in action and personal attitudes?
- Website? GitHub page? Suggestions about what highlight in personal git repos?
- Other things that could help to let you be noted in the pre-screening process of the recruiters?3 -
Interviewed for a job. Said that the colleague in charge of data engineering picked MSSQL Server for data warehousing, and that I had to write a plugin for that.
Interviewer - experienced in all things data - chuckled as soon as I said Microsoft. -
Please note did go to exotica within the next 6 months also visited said club and umm have a date with a cutie as well if you people are going to keep repeating things John needs the fun things to continue as well so he doesn't murder people who quite deserve to die !!!! Bahaha5
-
I'm sorry.
Its so nice to encourage you all to grander things and provide the means by which you can achieve all your goals with ease.
I'm one of many brainless zombie twats that does what I'm told when someone stoops enough to tell me to do what any decent human being should and puts up with my worthless ass. :)5 -
I assume most of you know the shortest joke ever : 1
but the question is : is it fun just b/c the 0 is not fun for the majority of the people and things it's put on?7 -
One of our previous clients is not paying the rest of the payments after receiving the codes. What are the things we can/should do digitally to make them pay the payment?
btw, it was a web app. we worked on the front end and the backend of the app. So, naturally we know all the API endpoints, we have the database access, and so on. So yeah, we can do so many things.
But still I wanna ask you guys, what would you do to make someone pay?3 -
When we forget things, Is it because it’s totally erased from our memories, or is it because we’re just having a hard time recovering it??4

Watching the NVIDIA keynote focusing on the Omniverse, would you say they have built a platform/ecosystem of products similar to Google, Apple Android/iOS where a lot of things would depend on/bully off their tech?

Remember way back when when most people lived their lives and the country had not finished being categorized idiotically, supposedly it is now anyway, and people had conversations? And new things happened? And people like me had no clue what the trashy retards around them were doing ? So much happier.
As in there were different stresses and worries
Then there was that brief time things were organized as they should be and traffic was light and people were healthier?
Didn't hear so much obnoxious coughing then -
Every day has repetition in it of course but why become animatronic dummies ? Literally same shit. Stop doing the same things because I mention that you're all weird mother fuckers that do the same shit ! If that is even the case ! People used to have differing conversations unless they were borinh mudbrick stacking shit covered peasants! At least they built up different behaviors god9

I'm the only one which finds really frustrating when you return to a framework or a language after a year in which you haven't used it and you're forced to Google how to do any trivial thing with it again?
It must be the 6th time I search how to do things with the C# library System.Text.Regex. -
Has the message that this shit is dumb sunk in yet ? Noone would need to verify someone is real till they go crazy if things stopped repeating
If we all reach another era your messed up children will say John was the only sane person from this generation and a few others and that is considering some actual problems being present4 -
Apparently you're expected to say the opposite of what you mean using incorrect pronouns to make things better4
-
you know how i hate things that can't be verified without far more man hours than I have available ?
just requires you to take something on faith which may not be vital but it still requires you to take something on faith from a source you don't always trust. -
Good Morning Hustlers !!!
hope you all are enjoying your work life, so can you guys guide me as I am going to take admission in college and I want to learn a lot of things but kinda confused, can you guys suggest to me how to start my career in BTech and what skills should I focus on.5 -
You know I remember a time when they didn't make everything .ore difficult than it needed to be because well whoever they used to be they weren't fucking retards and the country didn't organize things in terms of how stupid people were1
-
Backend developer does not even sort his API results by ID or name. Damn. I hate dependencies like this. Simple things but they are too lazy to do.1
-
Fuck I'm crazy and need to enable you to do new things that don't mess with your principles or distress youso you do new things and uncrazy me13

How do you get more knowledgeable on the business side of things as a developer? I'm pretty young in tech industry and whenever there are meetings with business people I tend to get lost due to limited knowledge on business domain.4
