Today I used a debugger for the first time and holy fuck it's magical why didn't I do this sooner..8

Everybody talks about burnout syndrome or crappy tech interviews, but not about a real struggle for devs, bubbles in their laptop stickers.3

My favorite languages are
1. Python (3)
2. PHP
3. JavaScript
4. Ruby
5. Java
Honorable mention: C++
Can anyone agree?38 -
Dad: [this company] is coming to town soon.
Me: I know
Dad: yeah maybe you can get a IT job
Me: I dont do IT
Dad: You never know what you do until you do it.
Me: *getting an aneurism from sheer ignorance*
I DO IT EVERY DAY HOW WOULD I NOT KNOW WHAT IM DOING THAT I EVEN WENT TO SCHOOL FOR?15 -
Who else uses Firefox over everything else? I switched from chrome recently and I don't regret it!26

Fuck College, Fuck C, Fuck the people that didnt help me with my C code and in fact made my problems worse and didn't fucking help me, Fuck the bastard that decided to give my the largest mountain of homework, fuck my inability to get shit done, fuck myself for not getting motivated to do anything. And also fuck Javascript cause its JavaScript.
Edit: IM ALSO FUCKING RETARDED41 -
I’m gonna say it. I prefer Nano. Vim is nice and emacs exists but I just feel most comfortable in the hands of my precious Nano.30
-
So im getting pretty good at python, so can anyone offer me some basic projects I can attempt?
Oh and it's my birthday today! (August 4th) I'm 18!13 -
TLDR, Fuck Electron
I love VSCode but damn I wish it wasn’t electron, same with discord and every other electron based application.
Also fuck those people that put TLDR at the bottom ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A SUMMARY IF YOU DONT WANT TO READ FUCK YOU31 -
Im so fucking pissed. so in my family (im an only child) im the computer expert. but everytime i touch something EVERYONE THINKS IM GOING TO BREAK IT OR TELL ME I DONT KNOW WHAT IM FUCKING DOING. FUCKING EXCUSE ME?
My mother was bitching about her laptop she uses for college about how something was not working and she was on the phone with a guy that told her "Its a JavaScript error and he told me I have to redownload windows" and im just like "MOm THERE IS NOT A DAMN NEED FOR YOU TO REINSTALL AN OPERATING SYSTEM FOR AN ERROR ON YOUR BROWSERS SIDE OR THE WEBSITES SIDE" (i didnt get to see the error)
I pick up the laptop and unplug it and she yells at me because the IT man told her it wouldnt work if she unplugged it. So i told her im done helping her with all her bullshit she can do what she wants. and comes in says it works now and she doesnt know why. then goes out and buys a new laptop bc she cant process moving her files on the cloud or a flashdrive.
my entire fucking family is like this.

So this is my homework, I have to convert Hexadecimal to Text! And I can also convert the Hexadecimal to Binary!! I LOVE THIS STUFF6

So today I made my first basic program in C++ from scratch that worked! After some troubleshooting.. But I thought of ways I could edit it and make it better!14

I’m reading through the Apollo 11 source code like a 13 year old that just found out what porn hub is.13

Okay so this is just a rant about my personal life because if I post it any where else no one will really care.
So I graduated from a vocational high school where I learned about basic IT and networking skills but I mostly focused on my programming. and I LOVED that school honestly the environment was so amazing and everyone and everything about it was amazing. then I started college recently hoping for the same thing and its just depressing me, and my depression is coming back and I cant stop it because I cant distract myself from it. My friends are always off playing Monster Hunter Ultimate and Im just wishing theyd hop back on Warframe so we can play again.. They say they will but they really wont so im usually just playing alone or going online which is sometimes fun if you have people that talk back.
so i took myself to the official warframe discord to find people that would help but everytime I ask I just get ignored. So Im stuck playing alone.
while thats happening Im not really getting any messages from anyone besides my girlfriend which is nice but she isnt able to really keep up a conversation and shes often busy with school as well. when I try to talk to any of my friends they arent really interested to talk or just send short replies that obviously tell me to go away. one friend in particular she and I used to talk everyday not even in a romantic way just straight up besties for life, but after one of my relationships ended she basically took her side and never talks to me now. Ive just been really lonely and wanting to just have my friends talk to me again or just have some programming friends I can chill in a discord server while we code but I cant bring myself to ask anyone on the specific server im in for programming..
Honestly idk if anyone on devrant really looks at my posts and thinks "oh look Bubbles posted again". I feel like im not good enough to be here because Im not nearly as good as all of you, Im mostly just here asking questions or posting extremely fucking long posts no one wants to read. and yet this is still where most of my interactions are and I love that this devRant community makes me laugh or feel better about myself sometimes. and I thank all of you for that and I remember your @ 's all the time.
honestly the only real highlight of my week was when my teacher of my vocational class asked me to come back as an unpaid intern to help teach his new programming class and It made me happy but other than that I havent been too happy.
if anyone actually got through this holy shit youre awesome and thank you a lot its appreciated.21 -
So I'm 17, I go to a vocational school and I'm in a computer IT and networking class as a junior. We have learned programming in HTML and CSS and whenever I'm programming I'm having the most fun, so I am teaching myself C++! I don't really feel welcome due to my age but I hope all of you can help me in the future!15
-
I GOT MY FIRST CLIENT!! I'm not charging too much since it's my first client and I'm just focusing on the experience rather than pay. Were having a meeting Friday so he can tell me what he wants cause he didnt have all the info at the time. It's just a simple website and if he requests more when I present it I'll ask for more muns16
-
So today I started to learn PHP & SQL for a team web development competition where we have until January to build a functioning website and showcase it to the judges! It's a little stressful but wish me luck because I'll need it..8
-
Have you ever just worked on a project for so long that you just can’t stay motivated in it? Like you enjoy the project itself but the process of not knowing when it’ll be finished kills the motivation? Is this a normal feeling?14
-
So I'm just finding out, today is Ada Lovelace day. I didnt realize Ada had a day dedicated to her. Today is gonna be only programming! I'm dedicating this shit code to her!1
-
I’ve been programming with other languages than Python for so long that when I finally had to pick up Python to help teach my friend some python I felt like I was rediscovering a past life.
With Python I feel like King Fucking Arthur with the Holy Blade Excalibur, armored up and ready for fucking war.
When I’m writing a script I feel like I’m parrying and piercing my blade straight through that fuckers chest and slam them into the fucking ground. And leave their bleeding out cold dying body on the fucking ground with no hope in their eyes.
Although when an indentation error occurs I feel like I just fucking tripped over a fucking pebble and apparently stairs were nearby and I bash my head on all 1024 steps, get to the bottom to just to get some fucking Java Chad punt my fucking head like a fucking football screaming random reasons to not use python.7 -
I'm starting my first real/big project! I'm going to program a discord bot for my senior project with Python and I'm gonna have to do it in 25 days. the goal is to get it done in 15 and polish it more from there.4
-
Who the fuck at Microsoft decided to put python on their store? I don’t care if it’s on the store. What I do give many shits about is that I spent 20 minutes uninstalling and reinstalling and reconfiguring my fucking PATH because the python & python3 commands did not work but instead SENT ME TO THE FUCKING STORE PAGE FOR PYTHON 3.7
THEN I FIND OUT ITS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE PATH MICROSOFT PURPOSELY CREATED ALIASES FOR BOTH COMMANDS SO THEY HAVE TO SEND YOU TO THE STORE PAGE WHEN YOU TYPE python OR python3 INTO THE CMD OR POWERSHELL.
I turned it off after finding that out, but I’m still furious. Fuck Windows.22 -
I SWEAR IF I USE ANOTHER WEBSITE OR FUCKIGN WEBAPP THAT SCROLLS UP TO THE FUCKING TOP OF THE FUCKING PAGE OR AT ALL IM GOING TO FUCKING LOSE IT11

This isn’t gonna be a random because I do eventually get to a Tech and YouTube related topic.
YouTube is actually killing itself with all of the dumbass rules they’re implementing. Trying to child proof or limit educational content is genuinely a shit policy. The reason so many gaming channels are switching to twitch because it doesn’t try to censor you.
But now I don’t know if you’ve heard but YouTube updated their guidelines and they’re no longer allowing content that teaches people about Hacking essentially (and I hate putting it like that but I can’t remember the exact words they used Hacking just summarizes it) which is fucking ridiculous like what the fuck else, are they gonna stop allowing lock picking videos?
YouTube has always been an amazing FREE resource for people learning Programming, Cyber Security, IT related fields, and even shit like lock picking, cooking, car stuff, and all that stuff. Even sometimes when the tutorials aren’t as detailed or helpful to me they might be exactly what someone else needed. And Cyber Security can be a difficult topic to learn for free. It’s not impossible far from it, but YouTube being there was always great. And to think that a lot of those could be taken down and all of the Security based channels could either lose all revenue or just be terminated is terrifying for everyone but more so them.
A lot of people and schools rely on YouTube for education and to learn from. It’s not like YouTube is the only resource and I understand they don’t want to be liable for teaching people that use these skills for malicious purposes but script kiddies and malicious people can easily get the same knowledge. Or pay someone to give them what they want. But that’s unfair to the people that don’t use the information maliciously.
It’s the same for the channels of different topics can’t even swear and it’s ridiculous there’s so many better options than just banning it. Like FUCK kids nowadays hear swearing from their older siblings, parents, friends, and TV it’s inevitable whether someone swears or not and YouTube is not our parents, they aren’t CBS, so stop child proofing the fucking site and let us learn. Fuck.
TLDR YouTube is banning educational hacking videos and are being retarded with rules in general16 -
It's my 19th birthday today! I've had a good year as a programmer, my best yet actually. A year ago I never would have thought about coding a browser but now I'm building up to it with smaller projects like programs that communicate to each other from other computers, more advance gui, c language and wrapping c with python. I never thought I'd get to this but I'm only getting better and I thank this community for being here supporting me. Honestly I cant wait for this year and I cant wait to post more :)9
-
I’m pissed because there’s so much I want to do and explore in the programming world but I feel like I’m never going to get around to it.12
-
I need to stop procrastinating, does anyone have any advice on how to avoid my crippling addiction to video games and watching random videos on YouTube?17

Windows 10 - Ghost bubbles
Suddenly the ghost bubbles started appearing, with feverish flickering of cursor, not able to click anything, had to do hard restart and the bubbles disappeared. Happened a couple of times, infrequent.
I thought my PC is virus infected. Upon search, many users reported the same. Looks like some windows update messed up the graphic drivers :(20 -
Ahh it's been a while since I've posted.. My skills with python are getting better (I'm a beginner) and I know for everyone else it's probably nothing but my first big project/idea I came up with was to program a simple rock paper scissors game that prints if you win lose or tie. I got the input and random output right without having to look anything up and that actually makes me proud of myself which is rare but for the printing out you win, lose, or tie I looked it up but I'm noticing that I'm getting better.
Then today I made a coin flip script that returns heads or tails in like 2 minutes and the only reference I used was my own code!!
Thanks if anyone actually read it I envy a lot of you for doing it for a living and I can't wait to do it too :)6 -
I went to sleep immediately while taking a break from debugging and the dream was me debugging the same error the entire time. Then I woke up in my chair and resumed debugging3
-
So Ive been wondering.. Do companies make you use a Text Editor/IDE of their choosing or do you pick your own?
and side question, Whats your favorite Text Editor/IDE? I prefer VSCode and Sublime Text 3.24 -
I’m going through the book automate the boring stuff and I’m working on the chapter with web scraping right.
Well I wanted to just count all of the comic links that are in the xkcd archive as a small exercise to help me get used to and better learn web scraping.
I go through hell trying to do this but after more than a few hours later I finally have done it I returned every link of ONLY the comics, so it was time to start counting them.
I implemented the counting. The total number as of today is 2279 and it my code counted 2278, and I started to lose it.
So I go through this motherfucker manually to see where my loops count and the count on the tags start to differ. I found it, whoever made it went from 403 to 405. The euphoria I felt for this incredibly small task was incredible. (Still haven’t pieced it together yet)
I found the email of the guy who I assume owns the site and I started writing an email that basically said “hey the count of your comics is off by one and you made me rethink existence trying to figure out why, you skipped number 404-”
I look at the gap between 403 and 405 Then the words “Error 404 Not Found” popped into my head. I proceeded to scream for a second and stopped writing the email and now I’m trying to come to terms with this.
TL:DR the guy who runs xkcd comics trolled me with a simple error 404 joke4 -
So I’m working on a project right and I don’t run it after writing 104 lines of untested code and it doesn’t work.
Which is expected but then I do some stuff and fix that, I get a new error which is great cause I’m getting closer.
Cut to tonight. I’m trying to hunt and kill this bug. And after doing nothing but copying the code to another text file so I can upload that copy and get help.
I decide to run it with a little just print statement in it to make sure it’s definitely broken and I’m not asking online for no reason.
And.. it works.. WHAT???
I uncomment the rest of the function and get rid of the print statement and scream because ITS WORKING!!
I MEAN IT HAS BUGS BUT THEYRE BUGS I CAN FIX AND FOCUS ON AFTER I FREAK OUT ABOUT IT WORKING AFTER ME CHANGING FUCKING NOTHING.8 -
Switching to linux soon.. C is too limited on windows. I also need to find more programming friends :/ but I dont know how to make programming friends /:17
-
I question myself sometimes.
I clicked on not one, but BOTH information bubbles, and proceeded to close them immediately. -
OFFICIALLY COMPLETED A PROJECT!!
Its not anything too fancy but I am very proud of it.
It is a simple C# (.NET Core) Console application. that also uses SQLite
if anyone wants to see it heres the repo:
https://github.com/BubbsTheSupreme/...8 -
So I've realized how socially awkward I am. I've had a goal for a few weeks now to get a few new friends online a few in 2 different categories. Programming friends, and foreign language friends but it's so hard and I dont know how to initiate it on social media or on shit like discord and reddit8
-
I kept getting the same AttributeError like 15 times in a row and picked up my graduation rubber ducky and screamed "I DONT FUCKING KNOW"1

Me: you probably shouldn’t use an IDE, you would learn a lot more about the language if you did things manually.
JavaFriend: Nah I’m all good
Me: alright you do you
4 years LATER
Me: *gets text* oh it’s from JavaFriend. *opens text*
JavaFriend: “dude so I decided to stop using my IDE’s and start doing things manually and I’m learning so much”
Me: ...
Me: I know. I’ve been doing it like this for a reason.
I know IDEs are helpful and good to use but personally I like to work without them and I feel it helps you learn the language more of you go without it.
If you have opinions on the topic in general lemme know.26 -
What do y’all think about the new Raspberry pi with that 4GB of RAM. Other good improvements too, but that’s what I’m most excited about14
-
I wanna make online friends that program too, I would love to just sit in a call or sumn and just talk and program and ask for help or vice versa if needed. But I'm that person who also rarely already talks to his current IRL and Online friends that dont program. And can never and doesnt like to spare my own time to talk to others. I'm quite frankly screwed 😂5
-
This is the funniest fucking IT meme I’ve ever seen. It’s on par with that meme where anon gets hired to Pulseaudio, and the whole dialog is just empty speech bubbles2
-
Ignore the code I know it's really basic but I didn't have my flash drive that has all my projects on it so enjoy the meme8
-
Okay so this Is my first actual rant before its been questions or experiences but today has been really stressful. So one of my last posts I talked about how I don't know when to use what syntax whenever and I've been practicing but every fucking time I try to start something I can't fucking get it I don't even know how to start and yeah I planned it out and Im not getting anywhere I can't this is something I wanna do for the rest of my life and I can't even manage to make simple shit its like what the living fuck. Then then I tell my friend who's also in my class who programs what I'm trying to do AND HE DOES IT IN LIKE A MINUTE OR LESS AND IT WORKS AND ITS REALLY FUCKING STUPID BECAUSE I TRY AND STUDY SO HARD AND I CAN'T GET IT NO MATTER WHAT I DO I JUST CAN'T AND IT SUCKS SO FUCKING MUCH I HATE IT I JUST WANNA BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN PUT THIS WITH THIS TO DO THIS AND ITS DEPRESSING ME SO MUCH I JUST WANT TO BE GOOD5
-
So im in college right? I dont have a licence to drive yet so I wait for my ride after class. My friend usually waits for me but this time was different..
I went to his car with him while having our normal conversations, we get to his car he puts his stuff in the car..
then.. it happened.. (pretend this is italicized) he pulled out a fucking hacky sack. THEN WE JOKED ABOUT IT BUT ACTUALLY TRIED TO DO IT AND BOUNCE IT BETWEEN EACH OTHER LIKE ACTUAL COLLEGE STEREOTYPES
Im making too big a deal out of this but ive never actually played hacky sack and its most likely the highlight of my college career4 -
As I get deeper into this project the more I fucking LOVE C# 💜
Although I have been using core. I have VS installed but haven’t used the framework yet. Are there any differences I should know about and get used to?11 -
I’m gonna start contributing to open source projects on GitHub. I need to expand and get in touch with more communities.3
-
Not gonna lie. I’m in the mood to make a game and I’m gonna try it. I think it’ll be fun. Wish me luck!
For anyone curious I’m gonna be using Godot because it’s not bad and It’s not nearly as fat as Unreal and Unity. They’re not bad just not what I want rn.6 -
In 1 month 2 days will be my 2 year "rantiversary" on devRant. I was scrolling through my posts and I've seen how far I've come. All those hurdles and roadblocks. I might not be as good as I like right now but I'm pretty proud that I've come so far. And I'm glad you guys were here to help me stay sane and devRant was here for me to lash out on and feel welcomed. I am grateful
-
I took a break, reevaluated a lot, and I am now back with none of the pressure I put on myself over the years and I’m actually enjoying myself again4
-
So in my last post I was angry that I didnt know many algorithms or how to make one, so you guys inspired me to learn about them and I found a course I'm gonna take about algorithms and such. I'm incorporating it into my learning schedule so let's hope this leads to me not being stupid.3
-
Is it a good idea to use Github or have a private local Git Server? I’ve heard Github now let’s people make private repositories for free so I was thinking of that but idk. What do you guys use?23
-
Hello everyone, I've returned and hopefully start ranting again.
I took a long needed break to think about a lot of shit and I'm back with a much healthier mindset and plan for myself.
Aside from the world going to hell what's new?5 -
Idk why I had the idea to research how sockets work in X86 Assembly. I’ve just been weirdly obsessed with low level stuff recently.
Edit: and obsessed with network programming.12 -
Taking advice from devRant and just working on some documentation for hacktoberfest. Well until I can find a project that I want to add code to1
-
I have so much learning and projects I'm really excited to start. Now if only I can find the time for it.. 😓2
-
https://youtu.be/4L4nQyGLjio
FUCK THIS GUY AND WHOEVER ELSE THINKS AI HAVING THE ABILITY TO PROGRAM IS A GOOD IDEA OR SUPPORTS IT OR TRIES TO DO IT. ITS NOT AND NEVER GOING TO BE A GOOD IDEA! AI ISNT DANGEROUS UNLESS YOU DO THIS KIND OF STUPID SHIT, DO YOU WANT US TO DIE? DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE YOUR OWN JOB WITH SOME AI? ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?43 -
Okay so I have a question about Windows Linux Subsystem and idk where else to ask this.
So should I think of it as a virtual machine except instead of being a completely separate environment it’s my current computers environment?
I don’t know how to word this how I’m thinking about it but I’m trying to figure it out.
Also do Bash scripts work with it? I assume they do but it’s just a double check.19 -
I UNDERSTAND POINTERS (kind of) HAHAHAHA NOW I JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE THEM AND I WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE15
-
Man learning I’m not good at learning new languages, I get to the point where I have the basics of the language ex: Conditional statements, loops, functions, classes, structures, file manipulation, etc but idk what to do after that, is this where I start learning libraries cause I still get the feeling I’m not at that step yet.
Before you ask, yes I know I am heavily over thinking this2 -
The traits that compile to form a programmer
-Not good at naming things
-People started asking for you to fix electronics regardless of what you tell them You’re actually studying/good at
-Procrastination through the roof
-Lives off of Coffee, POP, Energy drinks, or what ever source of caffeine.13 -
I have so much motivation at the wrong times lmao. Although I'm gonna start programming more than I already do so wish me luck6
-
Sometimes I just feel so behind. Even when I’m productive and my projects are going well I feel like I can’t catch up and my current skill set is not enough if I want to get a job as a dev, and I don’t feel like a bad developer I’m pretty proud of myself and what I’ve been able to do so far and I have a BLAST when I’m working on my projects but I’ll be browsing devRant, Twitter, or Reddit and I’ll see people talking about aspects that people with jobs as devs have to worry about or just people working on code that is used in production and I just think to myself well I can’t do that, and just start questioning myself.5
-
This is going to sound stupid to some.. I recently finished sololearns JavaScript course and I loved it but I want to learn more but I have no idea where to start.. I've been browsing tutorials on YouTube but it doesn't help too much.. does anyone have any suggestions?12
-
I'm starting to see this way o much today, first @Root, now @Bubbles.
Today... is going to be an interesting day.6 -
Ranting kinda
I'm studying for a CEH certification so I can enter a computer security competition that my school is holding, and I have to cram the whole subject in my head.
Before anyone asks why, I have a great interest in the subject and its fun to learn the problem is the amount I have to learn in such little time
My teacher also wanted me to enter so I could go up against the guy who almost placed in nationals last year, and he thinks I can do it, many people do. looking at it realistically if I crammed it all and reviewed I could place in regionals which is the goal.
Wish me luck if you read all of that!..2 -
I need to get this out there because you guys and gals are honestly the only people I can vent this to.
I’m working on a program for fun that’ll transfer files over sockets. Nothing too special. But this project is just boring me. I’m not getting any motivation even when I’m getting started. Which didn’t happen last project.
I have a general idea how I’m going to do it but I just can’t sit down and do it because I start overthinking about everything. Like how am I going to do this or that. How am I going to handle feature a, feature b, etc. And I’m just getting a headache and I’m not writing code and I’m JUST FUCKING STARING LIKE AN IDIOT. I don’t even know why it’s not inspiring me because I’ve always wanted to program a file transferring application of some kind and I still do.
I keep doing a bunch of small patches when I work on it and they work and improve it but I am hard on myself because it’s not one big feature or I didn’t work on it for hours. I’m always so fucking hard on myself fuck.
I want to do so much other stuff but I just wanna tough it on through and finish but it’s so uninspired because I don’t even feel like what the final product will feel like others. Like any service that involves transferring files I feel like they don’t function like how I’m thinking they do like I’m trying to make this function.
I feel like everything I’m making is just subpar and not good and I’m trying and I’m trying to improve but I feel like I’m not getting anywhere. And I want to learn a lot of stuff I have shit planned but I can’t get to it because I have to go through uninspired bullshit hell.
Idk14 -
I went to PyOhio, a conference for python in Ohio. I had an amazing time. I’ve never been to a programming event before and it was a revelation. I met and befriended so many amazing, kind, and intelligent people. The talks were amazing, and it was such a great opportunity. I was even guided through my first open source contribution. Great time definitely going again.2
-
I think I’m starting to realize that the source of my procrastination is because I’m too easily distracted in my room. I had to bring my laptop and book out to the living room and I feel like a lot more fucking focused but that might also be the fact I’m not playing music so it could be either? I know location change occasionally is important but I don’t have many places to go to sadly :/
Side note devRant doesn’t help productivity either12 -
On Friday a bunch of sophomores are coming into our computer IT class to see if they want to join. We are setting up stations for them to learn, listen, and interact with to show them what it's like in our class, and I wrote the code so they will write a HTML document that tells us basic info about them!!3
-
I hate when theres simple problems I cant solve. Legit pisses me off. I cant even program a simple number sorting algorithm. 🤬9
-
In the time I was attempting to learn C++ I was attempting to program an application that encrypted a file. Sounds cool but at the time I had no idea on how encryption worked and it didn’t go well. And didn’t work1
-
Random thoughts that I need to put somewhere. that I’ve been holding in and have to get out.
I feel like I’m more welcomed and wanted here than in real life. My friends don’t really think about me when making plans anymore, no one really thinks of me in general.
In school I was the awkward kid that was nice to everyone and I’m not taking the whole graduation well. I miss high-school and my vocational school, I miss my friends and I’ve just felt like things ended too soon and I just kinda feel alone
I wish I could just sit down and program and not procrastinate the only time I seem to be able to get stuff done is when I force myself. I feel like I’m such a shitty developer for not fighting it better. I need to be better.
I’ve not had a good few weeks. Since I’m taken a semester off from college no one in my family besides me is able to stay with a family member that’s in the hospital. I volunteered because I care for them deeply and want to help them. but it takes a huge toll on me since I have to be the one that listens to the doctors tells the rest of my family what’s happening. While Im kinda freaking out because I’m scared and nervous and NOT READY and I’ve had to stay a week there and I’ve been having to stay on and off and I haven’t really told anyone how I really am feeling about it all because I don’t like to be vulnerable in front of people and it’s been really hard and taking a toll and not helping the procrastination.4 -
From what I’ve seen and experience while messing around with other languages, PHP and Rust have some of the best while C# has the worst.8
-
So soon I'm gonna apply for a really basic web dev job. Pay will be discussed in the interview but it's not a lot of hours its once a week, I can stay home, it wont interfere with my college schedule or my schedule in general, it will give me job experience since I've never had a job before, itll give me a sneak peak of what the paid dev world is like. Also it raises my wage from 0 to whatever we decide on per hour. The only one really proud of me is my teacher of 3 years now. But this will just be until I get out of college because it's a comfy schedule1
-
Who here actually uses GoLang? I’ve thought about eventually adding it to my tool belt.
But while on the GoLang topic, what is it good for? I’ve heard it’s good for web backend but can it produce software too?question fuck me this is an actual cry for help why are you ignoring this i’m not okay go golang i just want to code i just want happiness who actually reads the tags29 -
When I was in school I was in a vocational school and my program was a Computer Service and Networking class and that’s what it taught it’s pretty self explanatory. BUT we also did some programming.
I was the only one interested in programming really considering everyone else loved the hardware. But when they would ask for help it was awful.
The book we used didn’t format the python properly on the page so you can’t really tell if there’s an indent if you dont know python well (they didn’t) which is okay.
But what isn’t okay is asking me for help and SENDING ME A FUCKING VIDEO OF THE COde LIKE FUCKING WHAT THE HELL MAN THAT SHIT ISNT EVEN READABLE AND YOUR HAND IS SHAKING LIKE YOURE HAVING A STROKE AT LEAST SEND ME THE CODE OR WORST CASE A PICTURE.
This happened more than once. 😤6 -
I have so much shit I want/need to learn. I've started learning C while picking JavaScript back up, I'm learning basic electronics but I have a lot planned for that. Not even related but I want to fucking Cook, yeah i said it i wanna cook but why does that make me feel like i should just stop and go back to programming. Idk I just spill shit in these rants. Also wanna learn to speak another langauge but can't find the time, and I have college and dude I'm trying and trying and I need someone to appreciate something I do before I flip or before C destroys my entire being from being the weirdest yet interesting yet fucking brain melting. And fuck JS I Love it but sometimes it's a twat let's be honest4
-
Honestly I love videos on YouTube that's sped up footage of someone programming a game and talking over it explaining what was happening or what they were thinking but I have only found a few channels that do it.. Hopson is one with his Mincraft in a week being my fav.. I just wish there was more..2
-
So I’m working on this project I’ve been working on for like 3 weeks and I finally got this feature to work but it had a bug and I shit you not fighting this program was like playing through bloodborne for the first time again. It got to the point where I started naming the testing files swear words or stuff like “itshopeless”, “maybe”, “maybe2”, “pls”, etc but I finally after fucking hours passed, bug slaughtered. And I’m now exhausted

Real-world algorithmic question: What is the most efficient way to pop all bubbles on a large sheet of bubble wrap?
You can only use your fingers.11 -
How do you guys keep motivation in a long term project? Cause I could be completely motivated in the first like half but then just lose interest even though I love the project itself.8
-
Going on a road trip and brought my laptop with me, I’m gonna take a small break from my project and test some stuff and learn some libraries, also gonna sit outside and just enjoy everything.2
-
So I’ve finished the project (YES FUCKING FINALLY I KNOW) but it’s not official until I turn in the code to my client (FUCK) and see if he wants me to add anything or if it’s good how it is. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻2

I'm giving a presentation on different text editors on Friday to the class I'm helping teach. I'm excited it's the beginning of the year and they're new our world and I get to show them and review 5 editors.
If you're curious the the 5 editors are
Notepad++
Sublime Text 3
VS Code
Atom
Brackets
No IDE they have no need for an IDE yet.11 -
So what do you all believe the best first language is and why? I personally say Python or JavaScript because they are simple, and easy to understand8
-
This basically is me rambling all my thoughts that have been clouding my mind.
Learning other programming languages after learning the first is harder than I expected. I learned python first but that's making learning others (which I know arent similar but ) C, ES6, PHP, etc. I need to figure out what makes each one special and get a proper path instead of learning them all the same way. Which is easier for the web dev languages but fuck man I just need a good path for them and I'm good. Like learn this this this this that and that and I've got a basic understanding of the language I dont need to stress and I can casually build my knowledge from here now that I understand all this. Cause I love programming and I want to be the best I can be and just get to the level I am with python. And at some point I have to learn about basic electronics and learning how to program Arduinos with C so I can do stuff with that because I really really REALLY want to.
It doesnt stop there. I want to learn another language and no I'm not talkin bout programming anymore I mean I wanna learn Japanese and German (but japanese primarily) but it doesnt help that I'm always either in school, studying, programming, or playing games. I just cant find time to practice Hiragana&Katakana (two basic writing systems in japan) and it doesnt help that I'm a lazy procrastinating piece of shit that doesnt have or can keep a proper schedule and hell I barely can English and Its my native tongue. Ugh. Itd be better if I had a native speaker to help me tbh.
And finally I want to learn basic pixel animating I have dreamed as a kid to do some kind of animation and programming and I want to do both for games I want to program for fun but it doesnt help that I cant draw sprites or anything for shit. I cant get it and I just am fucked but I'm going to ask some people I know and a few subreddits for advice/help/resources with that
Welp that was the Bubbles Power Hour none of you probably are keen followers of mine and if I had any I'd be shocked and honored but thanks for reading anyways and any advice on anything is always appreciated!random rambling electronics es6 stress language learning php python c foreign languages pixel art javascript11 -
During my first project in one of the SQLite statements I didn’t realize that it needed single quotes since I was new to it. So I brushed that off but when working on the next function for the program 8 hours were dedicated to debugging to only realize that the error was caused because I forgot the fucking single quotes. FUCK
-
Does anyone here have any good resources for introduction to embedded, low level development, or anything on advanced C concepts? I've been having trouble trying to step into more complicated topics like bit manipulation and stuff I can do with memory management. Also any advice is also appreciated.30
-
My new laptop is gonna be in the mail sometime this week! IM SO HYPED TO PROGRAM SHIT FROM SOMETHING OTHER THAN A DESKTOP!! For those who are wondering it's the HP Omen (I actually really love HP)
-
I set up my Raspberry Pi 3 B+ to be a git server and Web server!! It’s not a meant for performance just my own personal enjoyment :)1
-
So fucking apparently HP decided to hold off my laptop delivery until September 3rd.. I am fucking beyond pissed.2
-
Background:
I graduated high school from a technical school. And my teacher asked me to come in a few times a week and assist (which I LOVE doing)
So they’re working with circuits and raspberry pi’s and when I can in they pointed out that there was a project they couldn’t get to work. So I had to look at it. Now I was not given the original it was one a student tried to copy in (like they were supposed to) but it was awful. All the indentation was even more off than the original and on top of that. The original and what I was given wouldn’t give an error code.. and so I had no idea what was happening so I just decided to try to fix the indentation and take out stuff that didn’t look right (what else was I supposed to do when I didn’t know where to start?) and while I was doing it another student started to try to fix it and it legit barely took 5 minutes and now my spirit and confidence is broken. I wasn’t petty I observed the result and congratulated him cause he deserved it. After I took the code and put it on my laptop and figured out it was an “inconsistent use of tabs and spaces” error which is fucking stupid and I’ve never seen that in python before so after I debugged that there wasn’t really anything left to debug. So I guess I somewhat redeemed myself but I still feel like shit2 -
I feel shitty cause I've never wrote near 100 lines of python code or just a large number of lines in any language. I want to write large amounts of code that will actually work.10
-
So I feel like looking up solutions for my code is cheating, so I try to do it on my own for hours. Nothing I try works and the solution is usually something really simple and I feel like I'm never going to understand..4
-
So recently I've been taught how to make Virtual Machines in school and I did made an Ubuntu vm because it was loaded on a disk my teacher gave to me. And I loved it, it was my first time with Linux and I was so impressed, so I put some more versions of Linux on a flash drive to copy and I'm going to try them all out! The other versions I'm going to try out are Mint, Fedora, Manjaro, and Kali!3
-
Me: trying to do any simple fucking project
Me: cant figure out how to do something simple or cant figure out how to start or how something should work.
Me *Looks up problem* (everytime...)
results: SOMETHING I WOULD NEVER HAVE FUCKING THOUGHT OF.
Am I just a shitty programmer, a shitty learner, or just not cut out for this? because I fucking Love this field. this is the only thing I ever want to do. BUT I CANT FIGURE ANYTHING OUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME EVEN WITH LANGUAGES IM GOOD AT!! WHICH IS JUST PYTHON AND IM STILL SHIT AT THAT.
I TRY TO DO PROJECTS WITH JS, OR C, OR PYTHON PICK WHICHEVER ONE. AND I NEVER KNOW HOW I SHOULD START IT, AND IF I LOOK UP HOW TO DO IT ITS SO MUCH LONGER AND COOLER AND BETTER THAN MY DUMBASS WOULD HAVE DONE (and longer in a good way because its well thought out and works)
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A REAL JOB IN THE FIELD IF I CANT MAKE THE RANDOM IDEAS THAT I SEE ON THE INTERNET AND WHY CANT I MAKE THEM AS GREAT OR LONG AND SHIT ON MY OWN. SO MANY PEOPLE CAN WRITE SO MANY LINES OF CODE AND FUNCTIONS AND ALL THIS SHIT THAT WORKS AND YEAH THEY LOOK UP SOME PROBLEMS BUT NOT HOW TO FUCKING DO THE ENTIRE THING LIKE SOME FUCKING RETARD
AWDJKBAKWJBDAOLK;JWDBOALBJKWODANLWIO;NIAWDN;PIAWLDJBAWIDHB
I CANT GO A PROJECT WITHOUT LOOKING UP HOW TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE MY LITTLE BRAIN CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT14 -
What’s your opinions on AWS, Azure, and whatever googles version is called. I’m curious and I’m asking because I don’t really know a lot of details. I just know they host stuff and make some stuff easier.26
-
Honestly stack overflow can be helpful but what's not helpful is when some unresponsive asshole puts your question on hold because you left out part of the problem but doesn't respond to you after you edited the post and fixed the questions problem. Like fuck am I ever gonna get it answered or do I have to wait for this fuck wad to say it's okay. At least with asking on reddit I get responses. Fuck man I'm probably just gonna repost.3
-
Okay before you read on this is a stupid question!
So the most common response I get when I ask for advice is contribute to open source projects but theres some problems.
> I dont know how to find projects on github or anywhere
> I dont know how or where to start when I actually find a project
> I'm way too intimidated by huge projects like linux, browsers, etc
> I don't know what to add
> I'm too afraid of messing up the project
> my understanding of github its self is very limited and I'm not good at using it. (Which isnt a problem for the open source development but since I'd be using github it is a problem)
Theres always smaller problems too but those should sum it up3 -
I'm gonna be job shadowing some programmers to see what it's like first hand in the field soon! Its my senior year and it'll count as a field trip for my school so I won't get counted absent!!3
-
I hope and pray that one day I'll be able to solve problems and program things I wanna program without someones help or me looking up a better solution5
-
Stare at code I wrote weeks ago for a few hours, while not doing anything else hoping I get motivated to write more5
-
So I'm helping my vocational school teacher with his Programming class as a graduate. While we were alone and talking about normal stuff (plans for the class and stuff like that), he brought up discord and after that I told him "I really wanna work for them, but I don't wanna move" and he continued to tell me how I have so much potential, how nothing stops me, how I am going far and that I'm going to do a lot. I wanted to legit cry inside because I've always thought the exact opposite of myself and always just thought about living a normal life, with the same dev job, nice home yknow the norm.
Idk man that talk happened in the afternoon today and Im still overwhelmed with the positivity.3 -
In C# should I be using collections over normal arrays?
What’s the difference and what are the benefits of using collections?13 -
I kind of don’t like OOP. There I said it.
Don’t get me wrong there are times I like using it. I don’t mind some of the features but I can rarely find times I want to use them.
It can be useful depending on the project but I mostly don’t use it and when I’m using Python I always feel like I have to? I know Python offers multiple types paradigms of programming to use but everyone’s making a big deal about OOP and I can rarely ever find uses for it. What I said for Python also goes for C++ I feel like I’m forced to do it. And I especially hate it in C++ fuck that.
I’d just like to use Python, and C++ without using it or if I do not have to use all the fancy features. And kinda wish Java and C# didn’t force OOP on you but I just don’t use all the fancy features in those languages (I don’t even use java but I’m mostly talking about C# for that one).
It’s not that I don’t know how to use it it’s that I can never find a use for any of the features or just don’t want to actually do it. Personally I only really see it shining in Game development, GUI development, and MAYBE network programming??
By all means I’m not trying to flame on OOP, I just wanted to throw my OOPinion (HA) on the matter. in fact you can tell me why you like it or dislike it. I’d like to discuss the topic with anyone.9 -
Okay so I need someone to tell me if this is what its like programming for a Superior at an actual job. Background information, I go to a highschool where Im learning IT fundementals, Programming, and networking.
So I'm designing the JavaScript Project for my class. Its a simple progress bar that loads from 1% to 100% when you press the button.
So then my teacher is like "can you add a number showing what percent its at?" and I was like "yeah sure" so I did it, and today I showed him and he was like "Can you make it to where the percent is in the center so you can see what its at the whole time" so I obviously replied
yes because Im the number 1 Javascript programmer in the class and now I have to make that adjustment but it clicked when I opened devRant that this is what a lot of professional programmers go through!..5 -
So a rant ago I was actually ranting because I couldn't think of how to do anything and such. Fair reminder I'm still kinda new so I decided to program small stuff to build me up so I can learn. AND I JUST MADE A PASSWORD GENERATOR ON MY FIRST TRY!!5
-
In no particular order
• Create a variety of things
• The idea of contributing to projects/games/whatever and being apart of a overall large community.
• Solving problems/Automation
There’s just so much I love about programming it’s so hard to narrow it down to 3 things -
Have you ever wanted a feature to be a certain way but you had to settle with something easier and less cool/impressive?
I just had to and it’s very dissatisfying. -
So what Text Editors do you guys use at your jobs? I'm in high school but I would like to know which Text Editors/IDEs programmers in the field use. I use sublime, VS Code for my programming and for HTML and CSS I use Brackets.
Side note.. this update for devRant is pretty nice c:16 -
Going to be taking my first certification test soon! It's the HTML5 Web Application development fundamentals MTA if you were wondering and im getting it for free so I've started refreshing and studying! Next I'm going for the Software development fundamentals C# and VB!2
-
How my day started yesterday.
Luckily It fixed itself, but i was starting my day thinking I should just rewrite a function that wasn’t working so I could test some stuff but instead just decided to debug and thankfully I did that because the error was being caused by a lack of quotes and when I saw that I changed it.
It worked flawlessly and it’s my first project to use SQLite so I stood up and walked around because I was just so amazed because it was working how I planned and how I intended.
That feeling that you get from a project that works how you wanted it to is unbeatable -
I love having just a solid set of programming/tech books and a plan on when and what order to go through those books to posses the knowledge they’re bestowing to me.2
-
So I don't know if any of you know what BPA (Business Professionals of America) is (and its okay if you dont because its for highschoolers)
They hold competitions for us each year and Im going to be on my classes web dev team as the back-end python programmer. Weve already assigned everyone to their languages and were going to study so we can be prepared.
For the competition we have a few months to work on a website that actually works, front end, back end and all. There has to be forms and maybe even signup sheets that actually work.
Its really exciting and I'm definitely going to post the adventure of programming it along the way on devRant!!
If you wanna learn more about BPA go to their website, if your curious about what some kids get to experience then I'd suggest checking it out!!! -
If I ever got a job and they mainly make me use Excel for whatever reason I’m just writing a python script to do whatever they’re asking me to do then just do whatever the rest of the day.6
-
I've never had to put up with bullshit after bullshit after FUCKING BULLSHIT IN MY LIFE
ONE THING GOES WRONG SO I MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE OH SHIT I LOST THE CORD, FOUND IT, DOESNT WORK, FIX THAT, "COULD NOT EXPAND FILESYSTEM PLEASE TRY RASPI CONFIG" BLAH BLAH. I WAKE UP THINKING TODAY WILL GO SMOOTHLY BUT LINUX DECIDES TO FUCK ME OVER THEN I TRY TO GO TO THE PI BUT LITERALLY EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO JUST REFUSES TO WORK6 -
Gonna start to learn everything I can about Networking Programming. I’ve always wanted to do stuff that requires it so I’m gonna do it. **Also foreshadowing my next project**7
-
I am overwhelmed in my mind right now and I kinda just need it out.
I'm incredibly divided. There's so much I want to do which is fine I can balance some of it kinda well but when it comes to the programming aspects of what I want to do is where my head gets tugged in multiple directions.
Parts of me really want to continue to dive into C# and learn it a lot more than I currently do so I can continue to write the tools I use for problems I come across.
And the other part of me just wants to go do lower level development with C because that's where most of my goals are being mostly embedded and OS development.
But so many people I know that are incredibly smart devs use C# and I see why it's an incredible language and I'm glad it's one of the languages I know but I feel like there's so much to learn about it and I there's so much shit I see that I'm just like I don't know when I would want to use this, or I can see X feature being very useful but I don't know where I'd use it in my projects. Hell even C#s version of structs I know are very useful but I'm not able to make good use of them
I'm just in that headspace where I'm not learning enough and I feel dumb when I look at someone else's project because there's a lot more complexity In their project that none of my projects have ever had and so many people make use of language features I've never used or thought about using (generics being a good example) and I'm constantly asking questions which I know is okay but too much is happening in life lately and it's just making it harder to handle.
Thanks to anyone that got through it hopefully I'm not alone in these feelings2 -
Even though I’ve been working through a C# book about WinForms, which I’m half way done with, I still don’t feel like I’m working productively and I hate the negative feeling it’s giving me.
It’s going to sound stupid but it’s making me feel like I’m not spending enough time programming even though I’ve been programming quite a bit this week. I mean the small apps aren’t practical they’re just for learning how it all works but still. Im not reading the book for learning the programming logic it’s for the WinForms knowledge.
I think it’s just that I want to make progress on my main project and just have a 4+ hour coding session.19 -
So I’m starting to learn C# is it a bad idea to use .NET Core to learn the basics of the language? And for the advanced stuff use visual studio when it’s needed? I’m just trying to avoid Visual studio tbh20
-
Low key if someone wants to help me with a flask registration form that would be great because it’s kicking my ass.
If you didn’t see my last rant I switched from php to python because I know python and php didn’t like working or doing anything.14 -
IVE FINALLY MADE FUCKING PROGRESS AFTER ALL DAY OF FUCKING CODING AND A FRIEND (who is teaching me the networking concepts) HELPING ME THANK FUCK
-
Have you ever been stressed because of some bugs in some of your code? It helps having friends that code that can help.. and it helps the stress!..1
-
So today in school I decided on my career choice. So I've decided on becoming a data scientist because I can still use my programming and I very much do like looking at data and researching things as well as program obviously :) so if there are any data scientists or data miners out there do you have advice?5
-
So I'm gonna be honest. I dont know git. I do plan on learning it but I'm waiting to learn how to use it. But I'm seeing all this stuff about it on here could someone explain what it is and its function?6
-
A function that I has had fucking 0 problems now fucking has one and all I did to it was ADD FUCKING COMMENTS TO SOME OF THE LINES. IT WORKS APPARENTLY BUT ITS ONLY JUST NOW STARTING TO SHOW THAT ERROR5
-
So I've made this plan of what I'm gonna learn/practice/study programming wise. Some of it involves learning new languages and I'm always told i shouldnt be hopping between languages but I really want to learn fucking PHP and C# even fucking C to help my python and it's not like its overwhelming but I hate when I get told to not bounce between languages IVE BEEN USING PYTHON FOR A YEAR AND A HALF I THINK ITS TIME FOR ME TO POLISH MY JAVASCRIPT AND LEARN A FEW MORE LANGAUGES LIEK FUCK3
-
Okay so Im just stuck. Ive not programmed in a few weeks I wanna say, and when I do I go on the binge and then I "take breaks" to relieve the stress because I want to just relax but I dont force programming out of my life I also think about better ways to do stuff but I feel like shit because I want to just enjoy and relax with some games but I enjoy and LOVE programming but I just dont know what to do. because I want to enjoy some of the games I got for christmas but I want to keep improving and I feel if I go a day without it just that much shittier for not. and I cant see how much Ive improved. I just cant relax and feel good about it.
-
I want to start another project but I have no idea what the hell to create. I was thinking of a Twitter Bot but idk what to make it do. I just want to make something.
One of the worst programming feelings is the feeling you get when you want to make something but have no inspiration or drive to even think of a good objective (whether it’s something I get hyped about or not)1 -
Gonna update my discord bot! But I'm gonna rewrite it all in JavaScript because FUCK Discord.py honestly a horrible community and shit docs it just didnt feel right at all the only reason i stuck with it because it was my senior project and my first big project9
-
Im bout to start my freshmen year of college and I need money right. Then it hits me. FUCK IM A PROGRAMMER I CAN JUST MAKE SOMETHING! im retarded and genius at the same time.9
-
Am I the only one that is very neutral while learning a new language or framework or whatever it may be? Like cause you have to go through the basics and you’re basically stuck copying what the tutorial, book, video, whatever source tells you to do and the best you can FUCKING do is change a few things. I love learning new stuff don’t get me wrong I love adding tools to my arsenal.
I just don’t know what else I could try to do because it’s new ground but I want to acknowledge I’m learning it by making my own small basic program with what I’ve been showed but there’s not enough to do different stuff and I have to go back to the tutorials and copying and I feel like I’m learning NOTHING it’s just a annoying feeling for me personally idk if anyone feels the same. Am I crazy? Or am I just doing something wrong?
Also to clarify the all caps “FUCKING” was because my phone changed it to ducking and I wanted to make sure autocorrect knew I meant what I meant.5 -
A few weeks ago a friend was teaching me about 16bit numbers because we were making one in C# with a function, but he said we need two numbers for the function to work.(so as an example were gonna use 0, 2)
Now I didn’t understand how two numbers were supposed to make one. And my friend could not explain it to me. So I researched the topic all day and the epiphany happened I realized I was looking at it all wrong. I shouldn’t be looking at it as 2 decimal numbers but 2 binary values or two binary arrays forming one byte array with a length of 16.7 -
So I bought small notebook I've been using to jot down notes, ideas, references, etc and its helped a lot!4
-
I have to try to Learn PHP with SQLite in a fucking night it’s not even for anything big it’s just a basic login page for some students that are coming in to visit. but it has to all be working on this Friday. fuck. I’m just gonna learn enough to get by these few days. Then continue what I actually have been doing I guess6
-
Uh so I might be getting a job at a local coffee shop while I go through college. I’ve never had a job before so idk if I’m doing the right thing or if I’m rushing into it.5
-
Okay so anyone experienced working with networking or VOIP applications are welcome to try to help me figure out a few questions I have.
1.) How do VOIP applications like Discord and Skype not have to require you to port forward before use?
2.) If I wanted to do stuff with sockets over the internet the user of the application would have to configure a static IP Address. but when Im using Discord, or a multiplayer game, or literally anything that requires connecting to people I dont have to configure a static IP for those applications but I do for mine?!?
3.) Is there any additional information I should learn about whilst trying to make my networking application (File Transferring application) work? or any links/PDF's I should check out?
These are kinda just things I haven't found answers to, and I didn't know where to ask.14 -
So I’ve been programming in c++ and I’m ready to step up to making gui applications and I’ve heard QT is practically the best and only option I have but I don’t have that money and the trial only lasts 10-30 days.. so what can I do?..13
-
Day one of my first big project.
It felt weird but a little easy to grasp discord.py but I felt like I was just copying people as I read or watched tutorials on how to use things and how they work and while I was getting started In general. But I got the dice function working great. I had an error but I fixed it.
After I got it working I uploaded it to my friends server and they messed around with it and it felt so great because they were enjoying it and complimenting me and I’m not even done with it :)
I’m learning a lot but I’m also struggling with certain areas like finding good documentation or feeling like I’m just copying.. but I’m gonna keep doing these update things because I feel cool and official as I write these :^) -
Okay I'm not trying to start a comment war or anything, but Im struggling. I want to learn PHP but im already great with python and can just learn flask.. Is there any advantages to learn both because I probably will do that I just wanted to hear some opinions.7
-
Exercise do the pyramid of * and I looked up how to do it but so many people are able to do it without looking it up I dont know why shit to do with nested for loops makes me feel so dumb.
I know it's not a big deal to not know how to do every single thing but I'm always even stuck on the smallest exercises that apparently more people can do than not. Like how am I supposed to have thought about that or figured that out. How am I supposed to learn all this shit. Like for example just look up a list of basic exercises and I cant do any of them. I'm not good at this and its stressing me out because how will I get better or hell even a job if I cant solve these simple problems? How am I supposed to get better at solving these simple problems? I cant just keep looking at the fucking solution because that wont stick or teach me anything
Most stupid thing to rant about by far4 -
I'm almost done with my Python course and after I'm gonna study more like the tkinter module, the sql module, the socket module, etc (I'm sorry if they aren't called modules still kinda new to all of this talk) And after I feel I've learned what I need I'll move on to Ruby Programming!4
-
Is MongoDB worth learning? I already use MySQL/SQLite but I was thinking of learning it. How is it any different aside from having no SQL13
-
Okay so im gonna get some confused and many disagreeing ranters on this.
I like SoloLearn. I said it.
I think its a good platform to learn the syntax for a language. and get basic understanding on the language. granted It does a horrible job at teaching you what or how to do things. and its webapp isnt nearly as great as the mobile app.
the mobile app has a lot more "lessons" ranging from ES6, Angular, React, Algorithms, Cryptography. they obviously arent the best. and SoloLearn has SO many flaws and I understand that, trust me I understand more than anyone
I just dont think its the worst.3 -
I can’t describe how good it feels to have a project again.
And the pain of having a bug that I literally can’t fucking solve for hours even after asking for help which fucking sucked cause that was a waste of time to only realize it was because I WAS USING THE WRONG ACCESS MODIFIER is immense and fucking euphoric when I figure it out and I can clear all my browser tabs and don’t have to stare at that same fucking error again.
I’m just having a really good time with it and watching it grow. -
Me: *looking at a class with one function* “idk what else this could be used for aside for checking for a file”
Me: *Trying to sleep* CHECKING FOR A FOLDER
WHY ARE ALL THE IDEAS FLOWING NOW. FUCK.5 -
IM FIGHTING THROUGH ALL THIS INTIMIDATION OF LEARNING NEW THINGS. I JUST KNOW IM GONNA FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE ALL THIS NEW SHIT. Learning is stressful3
-
So I'm thinking about programming an app for iOS and Android in C# for my senior project.. but since I lack creativity I can't think of something..
-
I'm not gonna lie when im learning new modules or OOP or get errors or something I get intimidated and feel stupid for asking for help
-
Today in English during our reading time I brought in my book on Python and I just started programming and my teacher didn't stop me!2
-
I'm still a beginner for programming, I got the basics (for JavaScript) down but I don't really know how or where to use it, like loops(for, do while), return, and stuff like that.
Going through the books and online exercises they just make you do the basics like loop a number 10 times to print out 0-9 or something like that. And the return keyword I usually forget about because I've never been told how I can actually use it for something.
I want to learn how I can use all of these and when I can use them, is there any books, videos, or courses I can look into? I'm sorry, this is probably a Sinbad question but I am just trying to get as much help as I can2 -
Okay so here's a question to all, what do people/companies make you program? This applies to Web and Software programming3
-
Ive installed php before but for some fucking reason it just refuses to fucking work. Im not installing extra bullshit like some people tell me because I had it work exactly how I wanted it to on my desktop but now fucking hell what the hell is the damn deal7

I honestly have come a long way. But I still have these moments when I just lose confidence In myself, and while grieving it can be worse/more frequent.
I’m being taught some networking programming from this person I befriended and it’s going wonderfully! But I don’t know how much I’m taking in. I don’t know if I’ll be able to completely understand while I’m using what I’m learning, but I guess part of the learning is by using and doing. But what if I need to change it up for a different purpose but I don’t know how?
What if I’m not programming enough? When working on this project/learning the stuff from my new teacher friend to actually make some of the stuff I usually work on that for 30 mins to an hour and a half maybe even 2. Relax, do some college, play games, then later I’ll try to work through a few exercises of my C# WinForms book.
And before you say it I’m not balancing too much on my head. I’ve learned GUI’s before with Python I’m just reflecting that to C# and it’s easy and I’m always in a separate headspace for networking. But it all just doesn’t feel like enough?
It also doesn’t help that i don’t feel like I’m doing anything special that I can boost my confidence with. Usually in a project I won’t feel like I’m doing anything until a cool or special feature is made and I know that’s bad I hate it but I can’t avoid it and I want to feel good even when nothing completely out of this world is made that day.
And I’ve definitely come a long way I’m proud of myself but I just hate getting these feels. And It happens a bit when I’m learning because I’m afraid I’m not learning and I’m gonna keep copy pasting the same code snippets for different projects and I don’t want that I want to be able to fucking edit and change it or make a completely new one of whatever it is but my design but I guess that takes experience with it first.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk -
I hate everything that happens in the government that has to do with the internet I've already been on multiple tangents I'm tired, cant we get people in office who actually know shit about technology?1
-
I've started to program for at least an hour a day minus weekends but I still will program on weekends just I usually take that time to relax and play games or watch stuff but I started so I can practice and learn, it does and doesnt feel like I'm doing a lot cause I'm doing small JS projects (like a quiz which was more in depth than I thought tbh) to build up to bigger ones. I just feel I need to get a better understanding on why i need to do things and when and just somehow learn better from my exercises and examples, which I can see going through making another quiz its helping my understanding a little. Idk I'm just throwing my thoughts down, lemme know what yall think
-
I found a good method of testing everything before I add it to the project so rn I’m calm
On the other side of things, Stranger Things S3 is killing me2 -
I’ve been in a rut. I’ve just been learning shit back to back and I haven’t tried working on a project since my last one and it feels fucking awful. Since the last project was a CLI application I’m gonna re write it as a GUI with WPF and use the project to teach me more about WPF. But after this I’m honestly fucking lost.
I have to get a few more projects done after this. so I can get ready to apply to (my first) development position. -
After some consideration, and some intel from some of you guys, I think I’m gonna learn GoLang. Although I’m still on the border with Rust 😅8
-
So far in 2020 the only work I’ve done is front end and even though I’ve improved (a little) It makes me sick. But today I actually get started working on backend in ASP.NET Core for the first time. I am excited.2

Okay so I'm pissed. My JavaScript form validation doesnt work so I went tried it on the most simple fucking html form and it fucking works and I dont fuckign know what the problem is since I literally copy and pasted the form from the one that doesnt work10
-
Starting college soon.. I'm really hoping I dont get one of those shit teachers that doesnt actually know what they're talking about..3
-
I’d either advise a small break where you just focus on other hobbies for a few and let yourself relax,
or I would say learn something new like a new programming language, or a new area of programming (like game development or web development) and just try to make your own projects and stuff that you find fun or new,
or maybe focus on something different in tech, like try IT, Networking, Security, etc.
I suppose it would depend on the person/circumstance.2 -
JavaScript has made my mind a battlefield of positive and negative thoughts. One side is telling me I'm not good enough, I cant do anything on my own, I dont understand how to do anything and it's always going to be like that. And the other side is telling me I'm fine it's a whole new side of programming (compared to python) and I just have to get used to it and its behavior, and I have to practice more and find good resources (which I have now thanks to a lot of you) idk I'm just struggling cause I realize how far behind I am and I wont be able to get and hold a job if I'm this shit at everything1

Is booting linux from a drive a good way to start with linux if I'm not too sure I should make it my main os? The only thing keeping me back at this point is gaming since it's my gaming rig but idk I have 2 distros I want to use/decide between that I've loved on vms in the past but it's just me actually going through with doing it22

Studying for a MTA Certification(HTML5 Web Application Development Fundamentals) that I'm going to take in a few weeks! If anyone has any advice for the test and studying let me know, and if you have the certification, what should I be focusing my studies on?4

So happy!
I made my first project (or at least started) using my iPad (with some help from my laptop).
I am trying to make it possible for web comic artists to upload their comics without any text in the speech bubbles and then load the text using javascript for the specific locale.
It’s in an early stage (a few hour old) and the editor and the viewer share data only with cookies and local storage instead of a server but it's still a concept.
What do you think?

I have done a fucking awful thing and its that I started a project and I'm using Flask and SQLAlchemy but the part I'm stuck on is something Ive never done in regular SQL, so I cant even communicate what I want to do properly.
Time to binge some SQL real quick. -
I have a pair of older TVs that contain data readouts. However, because the screens don't always update they are susceptible to screen burns. I'm looking for a screensaver or something that could move around on the screen but not completely make the data disappear. The current running thing we have are the Windows Bubbles screensaver. This allows us to still see the data but it freezes the screens. (No data update)
I need something that will save the screen but still allow the browsers to do their screen updates as usual. -
Just curious, but how long do you guys spend programming a day. This isn't counting working time although you can include working time just declare it first!7
-
How do you all plan on how to program a specific project or a specific function, because I find myself struggling on that part..1
-
Okay so I'm new to C++ and my competition is either tomorrow or Thursday. And before I go into the comp I need a good random number generator but the problem is I can't get a good one . And when I run mine I either get the same number a few times in a row then when it changes it just increments a few until it hits 99 then restarts. And I only want it to generate different numbers everytime with a 1/99 chance to get the same number.2

I started learning JavaScript for school and when I first heard the idea that I had to learn something with Java in the name I was not amused. But then I started and it was amusing and I loved it from the start. And now I've started making basic projects to practice and stuff. Soon I'll be making my classes Js projects! And if you all have any suggestions on what I could program it would be helpful!3
-
This program I’m writing to test a feature for my project is working and also not working at the same time and I’m pretty sure this is the only field where I can say that and it be the truth and make sense1
-
This one is on me I'm not gonna lie. So makin a simple web timer right. Yknow just polishing JavaScript and I was working on the actual looks of the timer. I made some buttons with CSS and when I spam them it highlights all text on the timer and its posting me off and the "fixes" I've seen and tried havent been working or I havent been doing it right. I just needed to get that out of the way. It's a small not even a huge problem just something that bothers the hell out of me.2
-
I got back from my small 3 day vacation Sunday and I also decided to just take a break and relax before I hop back into my lil project I’m working on but it makes me feel like shit for taking so long to get back to it. Like I know I need breaks but I feel like I’m not good if I take breaks like this Idk don’t get me wrong I fuckin love programming more than anything but i just don’t want to force myself to work on something even if I do love it.
-
Okay so I have been thinking about transferring to linux. But I'm not too sure because of a few things I'm hoping yall can explain to me.
1st problem.) The operating system just feels so empty
2nd.) Theres a lot of customizing I would have to go through (which isnt really a problem it's just difficult getting it to look good)
3rd.) I'd have to learn to use the terminal more (which might be easier than I'm thinking)
4th and final.) I dont think I'd be able to use C# I know .NETCore is a thing but I dont think I'd be able to do as much with it.
I know these would probably go away after awhile but I've tried using it before but im afraid of making it my main OS I'm also putting aside games in my problems cause I know they recently made gaming better on linux I just dont know the extent to that.
Any help is appreciated and please go easy on me 😅12 -
Okay so theres something stopping me from understanding how Object Oriented Programming works. im sorry ahead of time this will get messy..
SO in this case we will use python. well what if the object has more than two functions? like the __init__, func1, then func2 and func2 does something else but doesn't get called or would you have to call of of them like class.func1(), class.func2().
I just don't understand when it comes to how the functions interact or effect each other. and how they would work when you dont call that specific function. I see the use of oop i just cant wrap my head around certain things..15 -
So I have a very important question. I don’t really contribute on Github because I’m not good with any code that isn’t mine, I don’t understand it I don’t know why they did it or if I would have come up with it and I especially don’t know how to add on to it or fix it.. am I hopeless?2
-
When I was 2 years old my grandfather sat me down in front of his desktop and he taught me to play games load software and go on the internet. I remember playing this Atari emulator a lot and a lot of other children games I loved at the time.
-
Alright so I'm in need of a little advice.
So I recently decided to go back and practice basic problem solving and from what I can tell now it's just me not used to JS like I am with python but I want to move on to bigger projects and other basic concepts (like manipulation of the DOM) and move away from basic problems.
But my concern is that I'll look at that list and only pick the ones that I feel I understand I can solve instead of the ones I cant. And theres a large list of them and I see that people are doing a lot of them while I'm just doing a few per page. And I'm afraid I'm just not good enough or stupid if I just ignore the basics and move on because the basics are there for you to figure out the easy stuff.
But I really just want to move on and I dont know when I need to. And last time I asked for advice I mentioned I have been programming for a few years, left out the normal accomplishments I've posted on here but I was just told since it's taking me this long I should just quit I tried to rebuttle but they kept telling me no that literally broke me and my confidence so now I'm sensitive to asking questions also fuck whoever that was.4 -
I don't have a single particular goal. but the first goal I have is to learn the rest of the programming languages that I want to learn, and get better with those
-
Actually got my testing program done today! I got some help and the person told me what was happening and how the function worked and helped me understand everything and what to do to not reproduce the same error and it was such an enjoyable talk/explanation. It makes me feel so much better when I actually learn what I’m doing wrong.2
-
So I’ve been putting some thought into this for a week now and this is what I’ve come up with for my dev goals.
- Finish learning C
- Learn GoLang
- Learn ASP.NET
- Get better at focusing
- Build more confidence in my skills
- Complete more projects
I have separate reasons for ASP.NET and GoLang. This year I did pretty good at completing my dev goals if I counted right I completed 6/10 of my goals and I’m proud of that, so I believe in myself to be able to complete these goals.2 -
This is just me throwing out my thoughts from the past few weeks.
edit: this is long
> Working on a C# project. its going well Its teaching me a lot about SQLite and file IO. I'm having a lot of fun with it, even the debugging as much I want to slam my head on the wall but I'm not asking for help so far and I'm very proud of myself because it feels so much better. like I don't mind asking for help but its so much more rewarding and I learn more from it.
> I need portfolio of software I can show off to employers and the current project I'm working on is the first programs in the portfolio. The place I want to apply to uses C#, but I still wanted a few other programs in other languages such as Python or JS just to show what I'm capable of.
> I was looking at what ASP.NET Core offers and it impresses the fuck out of me, and confuses me. The parts that confuse me, like for example the normal asp webapp is a very impressive hello world app. and it has so many different files and such but how or what do they expect me to add? how am I supposed to work with it? and if I delete any files I don't need (the premade js, bootstrap, jquery, html, and css) it produces errors because of the project files are pointing to those. and i know I can use the empty project (I do) but does that question my ability as a dev since I don't want to use it for my projects?
> On that note I love using Intellisense and debuggers and auto complete and I can go without them I just don't want to rely on them. idk I've just been a little more stressed these past few weeks.4 -
So since Im new to programming, I thought it was a good idea to make a github. Was that a good call?7
-
How am I supposed to do great things like people believe I’ll do if everything has been done in our field? Is my whole life just going to be reinventing the wheel? Figuratively of course.4
-
I ordered a USB Rubber Ducky!! I'm not going to do anything malicious with it, I just want to experiment with it and see what it can do for me!
-
ASP.NET Core (MVC) is frustrating me.
I’m a big fan of ASP so far but I’m just struggling to understand a lot.
First off to use it you have to fucking memorize every class in the fucking framework and the functions within them. It just expects that I automatically know which classes I need to implement or inherit from and why, but if I don’t? I can fuck off. But this is also just a C# problem in general.
And it does so much for you and that bothers me so much. I was so excited to actually implement protection against SQL Injections, using HTTPS, validating logins, interacting with the SQL for the database but FUCKING NOPE BECAUSE IT DOES IT FOR YOU.
I don’t want my hand held I want to feel like I’m actually doing things and I want to learn how shit works and how it’s made. It’s just disappointing. I appreciate that it wants me to focus on the app and I will appreciate it a lot more when I’m done learning how everything works but I won’t actually get to understand how those features work or how I can implement them myself because it’s spoiling me too fucking much.
I guess I’m just gonna have to practice more. And don’t bother telling me to look at the documentation, I’ve never seen such a fucking piece of shit mess before I laid eyes upon the docs for C# & ASP21 -
Any SUPER AWESOME patient... JS PRO that wants to help me with a few problems it would be appreciated..
Okay so I'm having trouble with JavaScript and this can apply to other languages but for now focus on JS. so I'm learning how to manipulate the DOM and I don't really know how to start I picked out a tutorial but I'm afraid I wont learn a lot from it. here are my concerns and yes they don't all have to do with the DOM
> I don't know how to learn without mimicking what the person is doing and when I try something that's related I cant use the related information and techniques because I either don't remember, dont want to do the literal same thing for something slightly different or dont know how and somethings not working even though it should be.
> I do it one way and when people offer to help its just me getting responses of how it could be done completely different and I dont understand why either way should be used
> Why should I have to generate a webpage or div if I can just use HTML5
>whats the difference between JSON and Arrays???????????
>I am not good with arrays, lists, dictionaries, (I'm stretching to python with lists and dictionaries)
>I recently tried the basic quiz project and it was more complicated and fun than I was giving credit for but I want to do it a different way to show myself I learned but I cant because I dont understand how the person managed to loop through the entire array printing the individual questions and answers to the div. like I understand the parts that use the html tags in the code but I dont know how when or what to use it all
>any good javascript/dom resources?
At this point Im just stressing because all I want is a basic skillset with JS but I dont feel like Im learning anything and I dont know how to apply my knowledge or improve upon the programs ive been learning from or trying to make. and arrays have been tripping me up to especially since I have no clue what the difference is between them and JSON and why I should use one over the other and dont get me started how shit I am with manipulating them. FUCK IM STUPID10 -
Take a walk, or focus on something else for a while, then after I've had a break I can return to whatever the problem is.
-
JS isnt the problem I have. I have realized. My problem is my lack of knowledge of the language which is not really a problem because I am new but its more the side I dont know how to write code that will do it. and lets say I do I get so fucking confident and it doesnt work and I think its some small error I made but no its just how I write it and it wont work and that gets me so down because when I ask for help my code 100% of the time gets rewritten. can I just not do simple shit on my own? and the problems Ive been coming across are just small projects to get better like "Create a function that outputs the most common item in an array" or "Write a simple JavaScript program to join all elements of the following array into a string" or literally any of the projects on this site: https://w3resource.com/javascript-e...
I feel so embarrassed because these are simple and I cant even do majority of them in langauges I'm better and more experienced with (python) I can think out a problem I cant convert that to code. algorithms in general I cant do as well and Ive never done any "big" or "serious" projects so I dont know what I have to show for the last 3 years of my life.10 -
Just noticed that my watercooling Pump stopped working a month or so ago...
It seems that after i installed my Soundcard the molox Connection was broken or didn't get enough juice anymore....
Connnected a new molex cable to the powersupply and everything is fine again.😌
How the f did my ryzen CPU survive this?!?
Just noticed because rising noise from the fans and Bubbles in the CPU Block.😑
Holy f that was close....😳1 -
I have to change the model of my application but I don’t like the way it was written because it was written with multi threading in mind which I don’t mind using and It makes sense to use but now Idk how I can make any changes.
And I don’t even know where the fuck to start
Also it relies on a lot of OOP stuff and it annoys me. (I don’t really enjoy OOP)9 -
Started online college. I don’t have a problem with the class or anything but right now I’m just trying to figure out times I can actually fucking program. I want to finish my current project so I won’t feel like I’m shit and can’t do anything even though I know I can.
On the brighter side of college. I have to eventually take a C++ class and a class on algorithms in my degree and I’m very excited because I’m not good with algorithms yet and it’s a perfect way to help me learn. And I’ve intended to revisit C++ and make it my bitch so that works out too. I just wish instead of Two Java classes I could take two C++ classes and one Java class. But whatever I know I won’t use Java after I get the degree for anything professional so I’m fine with it.3 -
Okay so update/JS pt2
This is just me throwing my thoughts down and some questions
I've been practicing arrays/objects and loops more and I'm getting more understanding it helps that you can do them both at the same time. But like I need more looping techniques (if that makes sense) like instead of always using for(let i = 0; i <= x.length; i++) and I havent completely learned how or when I use for(x in y)
Questions.
• what's the difference between class objects and objects that look like a python dictionary
• when should I use classes over the other kind of classes
• any good resources and projects I can practice with loops cause I'm kind of running dry on ideas
and I dont wanna google cause I barely already have no social interaction2 -
So I just got something to work the way I wanted it to as a start. But I already don’t like the result and want to change it, even though this is how I planned it to be.4
-
So I just came across this and its really cool. I dropping the link for anyone curious, but its basically a digital FREE "magazine" that revolves around (and I'll quote from the site) "programming (especially programming tricks!), hacking, security hacking, retro computers, modern computers, electronics, demoscene, and other similar topics." the issues come out in PDF's and its really fucking awesome. I thought some of you would enjoy this so if youre interested check it out.

2019 Dev Resolutions
- Learn the rest of the languages I want to use
- make a game
- make money off something I program
- contribute to a project
- learn and use git
- get a good schedule for programming
- use a few languages in one project
- be better than I am now
- not be so hard on myself
- publish software/website/game -
I think I’m gonna attempt to start having more coding sessions. Just clock in a few hours a day to help my sanity, and also because I want to finish my project.4
-
So my friend has got me into playing Old School RuneScape and honestly it’s really nice and I’m enjoying it, idk if I’ll try the newer version since old school rs is still supported (from what I’ve been told)
I’ve noticed that the game is basically just an economics simulator and I am down for it2 -
So for awhile now I’ve been preparing myself for my first dev job as a .NET dev, and I’ve mostly just been polishing my C# knowledge with OOP, Entity Framework, ASP.NET and it’s been going really well.
So my self assigned time limit (end of August-beginning of September) is coming up and that’s when I’m gonna apply, so I decided today to take some time from programming to actually make my resume.
I did not use a template so it looks boring and I don’t have a lot to put on it but what I did put on it was important and I feel is solid (for not having worked before).
I’m having a few people I know look at it from a professional stand point and gave me feed back I implemented and it is better now.
I already linked my github, should I link my LinkedIn?
will people actually care if I don’t use a template to make it visually pop because I’d honestly rather keep it how it looks as is if I can.6 -
Alright I know what you’re thinking. “Bubbles, again? You’re doin this aga-“ yes I am.
As some of you that tune into my rants on the daily should know, I have the tendency to want to LEARN and just throw my thoughts in here cause you all understand me more than most people. WELL IM BACK AT IT AGAIN, and with the anxiety of when to do things.
I’ve been preparing my C# skills for a job and currently working on projects (one at a time) to put in a portfolio and just help me learn by making cool things. BUT I also have books I want to go through and read to teach myself C and Security stuff which is spread out in three different books. But I don’t want it to seem like I haven’t put my time in with C# and took my time with it. And I just idk when a good time to transition into all that. Which I feel like after a few more C# projects I’ll be okay. Then go through those books in the order I have chosen.
I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching people on YouTube program and talk about what they’re doing. Idk if that’s just me.
I feel like I’ve been making some real progress on my project though. I’m quite proud of myself
I also have a small story saved for tomorrow so stay tuned for a barely entertaining short story
I hope yall have a great day -
Okay so I've been programming for around a few months learning python. I'm a slow learner so I try to stick with a learning schedule that suits me and i do got it, but I've come across a problem that keeps happening.
When will I know when to use certain functions like len(), range(), Or even modulas %. Because I forget they're there and im worried its going to effect me from being better.
Another problem while I have some of your attention is i dont know when to use math in my code really well but I've been getting better at that so I'm gonna practice a little bit for that.3 -
So I’m learning JavaScript but with every project I’m delayed because I have to make the page for the project and it irks me because I hate front end. DONT ASK WHY IM LEARNING FRONT END SHIT ALRIGHT? Anyhoo uh yeah no this shit is holding me back because I want to do web dev for web applications but developing the front end is such a fucking hassle. Like creating divs for the apps to look how I want while being basic as shit and I know JS is for front end and I get that and it’s fun to play with but I just wanna get to the programming you know? I’m not a designer I’m just trying to get better at programming and have fun. And also fuck those times I changed something and it literally should have changed but IT FUCKING DIDNT!2
-
All you emacs cultists, share with me your wisdom. As someone who wants to learn how to use it I have a few questions.
what resources should I use to learn more about it and configuring it?
What's the difference between emacs, doom emacs and all the others I've heard about?
Are you able to and do you use the GUI or the CLI versions of it?
And are there any packages equivalent to VSCode's Intellisense?
please for the love of God don't turn this into a holy war of vim vs emacs I don't mind either I just want to try out emacs cause I think it looks awesome and something I'd be interested in.1 -
I’m just curious, how relevant is slack in the workplace? And is it enjoyable to use or awful like Skype9
-
Now is the time for me to start projects to get the hang of ASP.NET (Razor Pages then MVC), although it doesn’t seem like there’s a whole lot I need to worry about but I fucking feel like I’m messing it up already. I’m just worried about how I’m going to work up to sumn I would do at a job and remembering everything I have to do in the project and why12
-
Okay so this has been bugging me. I know object oriented is important and helpful and good over all, but how much do people in the field with jobs use it. And this applies to any language I'm just curious.7
-
So I have a STUPID question about Machine Learning.
And I am being serious when I say this.
I want to get into machine learning but I really don’t want to accidentally create the AI that kills us all.
I’m not trying to boast my abilities or anything I’m not that great but I just
one don’t completely understand how machine learning works?
And two how do I keep it from learning more than I want it to??
I’m not trying to be stupid I’m just trying to understand so I don’t make anything that I regret.17 -
Okay so what’s the difference between Blazor and Razor Pages??
I’ve heard Blazor is an alternative to Single page apps made with angular and that it’s not server side, and I personally don’t like that I’d rather have it run on the server side.4 -
Building up me getting off my break of programming by doing a few small exercises each day testing new small front end stuff (since that's what I'm learning rn)
-
So I want to get a bird. A conure. And I really want to get one but I’m deathly afraid I’m not gonna be a good owner. I’ll sacrifice a fuck ton for it and I will commit to taking care of it and befriending it but I’m just really really afraid.9
-
I honestly cant get passionate about learning. I need a project I can be passionate about but idk what to do :/
Any suggestions? (Language: python)2 -
I’d like to estimate I’d finish a project about after a week, or two if I’m accounting for major debugging.
-
Okay, so is Linux used more for programming than Windows? And if you do prefer Linux please give me some reasons because I love Linux1
-
Alright so this is just me throwing my thoughts down from today cause I need some outlet.
Gonna start programming a lot more than I do now cause I want to improve and I enjoy it.
I started my JavaScript course and that's going well so far. I need to figure out a way to make the info stick. I'm gonna def use the projects from each day as resources though.
I need to practice python (which I'm good with) occasionally so I dont lose my magic touch. I was thinking of doing a project on a raspberry pi that uses a camera for object/facial recognition and picking projects like that and occasional small ones I do in js.
Although theres still a lot I have to learn on the DOM side of js. I dont want to be a front end dev cause I dont have that artistic eye so I'm mostly gonna use it for node and small front end stuff
But mostly I need to be able to grasp more from tutorials, examples, courses, etc. And understand how and when and why I should use whatever it is.
Also I wanna use someones code to learn but it's never documented well enough for me to know what's happening I'm mostly referring to when theres a library or api I'm unfamiliar with.
Also JS is getting a little boring so hopefully python will help dull that feel6 -
Gonna start learning ASP.NET (Core) and prepare to get a job I’ve been looking at. I’m tabling everything else.
THIS ISNT ONE OF THOSE IM PUTTING STUFF OFF TO PROCRASTINATE. I PROMISE.4 -
Okay so I want other opinions. So I've been studying for C++ competition and I don't know how to keep learning the language.. for python I just kept finding projects to do or picked a module to learn. But with C++ I was gonna work on the <random> and <string> libraries but after that I have no clue :/13

Whats your take on Patreon (and services like it), have you ever considered one or been told to make one?
personally I think its cool that if you have a game community that wants to support you or just people that like your work in general that can support you a little for your work. and Ive been told I should make one but I dont see the point for my own case personally.
Im only asking on here cause I just want more opinions from other Developers20 -
I'm starting DIY electronic projects soon and in really excited. Although I'm gonna have to try to balance learning Web dev and C now. But other than that it should be fun!

So I’ve been enjoying JS but I hadn’t programmed in python in a bit so I decided to do a small project but that turned into me putting JS aside and I’m pissed now because that was not my intention so I’m just putting my python down until a learn JS and the other languages I plan on learning cause I gotta get that out of the way

Life is tough when you get angry at bubbles in stickers that were poorly placed, but you, yourself, place stickers really poorly. No matter how hard I try fixing them, it's no use...

All the shit that has been stressing me out has stopped and everything is okay now I can program without distractions, although I think JavaScript has some stress planned

So I wasnt liking Kivy so I decided to get PyQt5 and I'm liking it but I feel like some of the studios widgets take a lot of programming out of the process and I feel like I'm cheating idk but it makes it a lot easier

Uh so I can’t really find a clear answer to this but, can you program iOS apps with C# or not because I’m only seeing shit on fuckin Swift. More like swiftly beating myself to death with a wooden bat6

Anyone with good understanding of hardware and/or an operating systems network protocols please assist me. I have questions
When using socket api I know it’s not the actual sockets sending the data but the socket api tells the network protocol to send, receive, listen, connect, etc well what I want to know is how that networking protocol works within the operating system
My second question is more an extension of the first. After the operating system knows what the socket api wants to do and wants to do it how does the transmission and receiving work on the physical layer within the hardware
Idk if what I’m asking makes sense. But if anyone also has any resources or a link that’ll help me on the subject I’d appreciate it. I haven’t found anything on the subjects myself19 -
I’ve made a list of things I want to learn. Languages, frameworks, etc and i don’t really have too many things on the list that way I can learn them well.
I’ve been struggling with this choice because I’m honestly not sure whether or not I should consider Rust to be on the list.
I like the modern features it contains, and I don’t mind the syntax.
I don’t like it’s way of memory management, I’ve heard it’s performance can be very lacking, and I’ve heard a lot of negative things about the compiler and the efficiency of the language (although I feel like efficiency comes down to the person and how the code is written)
So please redpill me on Rust and try to convince me to add it to my list because it’s close.2 -
Am I the only one that feels like they're cheating when they use libraries like Angular to make stuff easier? I dont want to feel like that but it just seems to happen :/3

I wish devRant had a friend tab where you can have a friends list to see their posts so you can follow people posts you like and a feature where you can message them1

I’m not good at frontend and I’ve accepted that but it’s frustrating because I just am not good at making things look good and I hate spending the time on the looks when I want to just go have fun with the back end.
I will say though getting it to look the way I want is super satisfying as well.
Any advice or resources?2 -
Working on a project that requires two computers is complex for me currently. I need to wait for the only other windows computer to become available in the house.
Although in the mean time I’m just taking the time to learn WinForms since someone lent me a book for it. I know WPF is better but I’m not interested in learning it at the moment. WinForms will do all I need it to.8 -
I upgraded from VS 2017 to VS 2019 and I am quite impressed with the UI it is so less cramped and clustered than the older versions. Overall just has been a better experience minus some questionable build&compile&run times. But I am glad I upgraded now3

So I've started to use github more the past few days. It's a lil complicated for me but I'm starting to get it down2

Got a bit of work done today, not the most but a lot more than I usually have been doing which is good.
I changed my theme from the default of VS Code (I do like it) back to my main squeeze Monokai, and it for some reason helped me focus more. Idk
