Every time someone posts their multi monitor setup I'm looking at my setup and be like: "Will this community accept me?"36
-
I had to install a program whose setup file size was 3GB and I already had that setup in my pendrive, but my pendrive was in the other room so instead of going there and bringing that pendrive, I re-downloaded the setup.
My other room is hardly 5m away12 -
My boss baught me a new setup because he crashed into my car. I think i can accept this apology^^21
-
Hello, anyone still interested in seeing my setup/battle station?
If yes, I'll post it in the comments ;D
Edit: posted it in a comment 😊43 -
Upgrading my current setup. New monitors, setting up a server, creating an "internal' network and so on.
This is fun!20 -
Fuck yeah!
6 monitors are success-fucking-fully running on my setup.
Fun detail is that WITH the official AMD driver, one screen wasn't turning on and one had a weird resolution but WITHOUT it, it works completely fine!
Yes, it runs completely fine on Linux (Kubuntu).
Finally have my dream setup.42 -
Rate my WiFi setup.. 😅
Thanks to Ajio.. ✌️
This is what happened why your roommate's are trying to be creative..16 -
Ok so I've noticed we have a small setup "pissin contest" so my di... I mean setup is that big ;)17

I just started re-doing my entire setup because I finally want to build my true dream setup 😍
Gonna pick up two monitors with monitor arms tomorrow and searching for a network switch as we speak.
Any tips?36 -
I'm redoing my setup right now and getting genuinely scared that when I turn on my server, the power will go down.
I'm using so many devices at the same time 😅14 -
Here's my setup. I don't want to remove my laptop to take outside, unfortunately. So, ain't gonna happen.19
-
Tonight I want to try to setup an openvpn server with mysql based authentication because I'd love to somehow setup/become a vpn provider.
Of course there's a huge ass legal part but let's first make sure I know the technology of the top of my head!
Just ranting this out because I'm excited 😊21 -
How do you like my setup? Ubuntu laptop on the left, windows laptop on the right.
(And giant rubber duck upper left 😼)13 -
This meme is what my setup feels like sometimes, but then I realize I have everything I want, give or take a few things.2
-
"let's setup a seedbox quickly to seed Linux iso's!"
-
You can remove that 'quickly' part. My own goddamn fault but fuck this is annoying.4 -
Oh my god, look at this beauty. Looks like aurora borealis. Too bad this setup wasn’t successful and is already lost.14
-
Some people assume that since I am techy that I have a really good laptop or setup.
Nope.

-
Well here is my new setup.
Left and center screens are connected to one laptop. Where I run my editors and terminals.
Rightmost is connected to another old laptop. This is for browsing and slack.
Using synergy to share mouse and keyboard.
What do you think of this setup? Any better way to do this?18 -
So I didn't really like my old setup, it wasn't comfortable enough, so I set this up today! What do you guys think?3
-
Bought a 27" 1080p monitor and decided to use my old monitor besides it in portrait mode. This feels so good, portrait monitor's good for reading tutorials or for writing code. My coolest setup so far!6

I'm 4 days into my new job, and so far I am absolutely loving it. Here's my setup. Yes, they gave me 3 monitors plus a laptop, so my setup has 5 screens! Now I can die happy :D
Definitely worth noting as well, since it caught me by surprise - the company-supplied laptop is a powerhouse. High-end i7 CPU, mid-to-high-end NVIDIA GPU, tons of ports, 1TB HD, 4K display, and 48 GB RAM. Yes, 48 GB. I am truly blessed, starting off my career with this. ^_^rant excessive ram my dream finally came true hello innumerable open tabs multi-monitor setup goodbye lag11 -
I want my dual-monitors :c Seems like I need to double my amount of upvotes then. But I want to match my avatar to my real setup! :c1

I love having a huge desk.
I can fit my work setup and I still have space for some mess (and university stuff) 😁6 -
My current distraction is that I have found a local government surplus auction and I keep buying toys. This is my current distraction setup.9

Got to know about OSMC/Kodi last week. Took out my Raspberry Pi. Setup OSMC over the weekend, did all the cable setup for 4 external hard drives and connected to TV via HDMI. After few configurations, I'm all setup. I'm astonished by all the features it provides. Fetching data from TMDb (I had actually created a javaFX app to do this for my local library just last month), remote control from Android as well Web Browser. Enabled UPnP and now I have my complete media center floating around my house network. It is one of the best open source project I have laid my eyes upon. Wish I could attach more pics.6
-
My current setup.
Doble screen on an Arch Linux with i3wm and conky. I love it 😍😍.
What do you think?5 -
I'd post a pic of my setup but in reality my workspace is any space I can perch my laptop and be out the way of customers and colleagues.
-
I see your cable hell and raise you my cable hell

Well, here’s my computer setup. It doesn’t look the best, but my HP Z600 Workstation is more than enough for gaming and working with virtual machines.2
-
This is how i setup my laptop after my long journey of paying.
I used it for gaming, rendering designs and development. 😍😍😍7 -
I got home from my day job today to work on a side client's project that is due tonight.
Realized I'd left my laptop with all my setup for the project at the office.2 -
2 birds, 1 stone...
Thanks @dfox for the awesome and much anticipated stickers. Still not decided where they're going, but probably on my MacBook Pro.
Here's my humble setup, @localhost3 -
Just went to install synergy for my new home setup after moving house and starting a new job where they gave me a Linux laptop3
-
Last week, I have the courage to leave my job which was only paying me only 180 dollars a month as a Software Engineer for 2 years, and worked on-site so plus travel time and travel expenses, though, that was my first job and I learned a lot.
Tomorrow, I will start my new job that has a WFH setup, and with better pay.
I'm a bit nervous and overthinking what if they will not like me or they will terminate me before paying my debt (debt from preparing my room from WFH setup).
Any tips from WFH people and on how to not screw up on this setup?
Wish me luck guys and thanks for the answers!3 -
Been trying out WebStorm for my html and js instead of my coding in my usual vim setup today. I think I may have converted. Only time will tell.6

Two OS’s, One Setup
Godzilla Themed, and they actually roar on startup!
What do you think?
(Already posted this screencap once here, but in a comment.)2 -
Everyone out here talking about Arch and the setup process. My first experience with Linux was with Slackware Linux. Zero dependency resolution.. Holy shit what a ride that was for my first foray.1
-
~just-interesting-hack-things~
I was able to force my phone to work with 2 fingerprints by alternating my fingers during the setup.1 -
My mom thinks I fix Wi-Fi and computers.
My dad's thinks I setup TVs and fix phones
They're both crazy -
Fuck ATT, Fuck their company, Fuck their router, Fuck everything they stand for. I just spent 3 hours trying to solve an issue with their fucking router and my bonded nic setup on my home server. I still don't have it completely setup correctly. I just want to murder them at this point. I really need to build my own fucking router at this point. It would end up being so much easier.2
-
Here’s my setup, a little late. I use the dual monitors with my work computer and laptop + monitor for personal computer.1
-
Everyone is posting their setup 😏. I just have one laptop and I setup my workspace wherever I feel like.1

All right then, my setup as well. I exchanged 2 24" for 1 40" 4k monitor and I'm never going back. Perfect for coding.1

Ignoring Windows update message, wen suddenly.....it did install Windows 10....Crashed in Setup... nuked my working time by 4 hours...lost 2 commits...3

What's your workspace setup?
Curious because it took awhile and a lot of experimenting/thinking to get mine setup the way it is, but now I can't even think properly unless I have things setup that way after booting up in the morning.
Here goes:
Workspace 1: General stuff, personal email. social media, random research for non work related things, etc
Workspace 2: My main project local development, includes terminals, database, browser research for bugs, debugging software, error logs, etc.
Workspace 3: My main project, production workspace, consoles, browser, etc related to production server, you get the idea
Workspace 4: local dev on my side project
I found it crucial to setup workspace 2 and 3, it has helped me avoid countless stupid errors, like, for example, accidentally working on production terminal and wanting to rip my hair out wondering why the fuck _____ isn't working, then realizing, oh shit, i'm on production, not local. Huge brainspace bandwidth saver when I setup like this.
How about you?2 -
I forgot to setup my alarm, but it's fine, because fof some reason I just woke up exactly the when my alarm goes off normally.
Also fuck nighttime me2 -
I go to a University that has a co-op program, so I move every 4 months.
I just realized, it takes me longer to setup a new (linux) system than it does to setup my room.2 -
I posted a photo of my setup a while ago, for week 119 ( https://devrant.com/rants/1675608/... ). I have now upgraded my keyboard, mouse and screen and thought I'd share a photo of it. Have a fantastic weekend. I know I will!1

So got first invoice for Internet in my new flat. Via e-mail with winmail.dat attached. WTF? Send them reply that their mailing system is broken. They replied that *I* probably have wrongly setup *Outlook* and sent me instructions how to configure my Outlook. Thank you, my mutt us fine and your instructions wouldn't work. Sent them another reply that I'm happy that they know the answer and that they should apply it to their setup as my mail setup is correct. Got e-mail with pdf. No wonder those guys don't suppprt IPv6 nor DNSSEC if they have troubles using plain e-mail. Maybe I should check whether they have DKIM or SPF and do some little evil...1
-
Set up my mom's network the other day. Unifi Lite AP with an EdgeRouter X. Decent setup. Now she's constantly getting disconnected :/ Nice...2
-
Is there any good and stable devRant command line app? I have everything but that to complete my setup.6
-
started learning react earlier today via codecademy - absolutely fantastic setup and explanations. Would recommend.
Now to get my other developer to learn it as well. -
Kinda annoyed that I got arch just so I could have a light weight Linux experience, after a day or two of setup I have over 800 packages installed with not much difference from my old mint setup.1

Aah fuckin ubuntu setup,
I made a some free space from windows disk management for Ubuntu setup, afterwards the turned on ubuntu setup, it showed the free disk space as unusable!!!
I did something,i don't remember, and somehow I entirely erased my E:(contains all my media) Drive 🤦. I was also about to erase my D drive ( contains all my dev work and all).Than I stopped and will sort it later.
I always have my media backed-up on mulitple disks hence I didnt lose much. But Why the fuck does Ubuntu show empty space as unusable ?????2 -
I want to setup a website, I have a few questions.
What's SEO and how does it affect my website?
Where should I setup?
Also how should I set it up to prevent hackers from damaging my site?11 -
What do you think of my setup?
I carry a strong laptop for heavy lifting and an iPad for RDP'ing into either my laptop or cloud hosted VM's.
This setup is obviously optimized for mobility, if I had a stable place to work, I'd use a desktop with multiple screens. -
I'm more excited for my devRant dual monitor setup than my work one. I see I still got my priorities in order 🥴

My setup for plugging in my usb c phone to my usb a pc: two usb a male cables taped together and a usb otg adapter :)

I think today might be the day I'll bring ubuntu onto my big laptop. It had only windows for many years now and I did all my dev work on my smaller laptop that I carry around with me. Since I leave the small one at the office now - i got tired of carrying. Lol. - but want to continue my dev work at home, it might be time.
It's going to be a pain to setup everything though, although I got rid of the part that was making the setup really painful. We'll see.
Maybe I'll rant about the setup in a few hours. Lol. Wish me luck.3 -
Been trying to setup my Python environment for a week, but virtualenvwrapper fucks it up. Emotionally broken.4

since my favourite phone automation app llama is no more i discovered automate. you build your 'scripts' with functional blocks. it's quite fun but debugging is messy.
mildly interesting: implementing a guided setup instead of defining the values directly leaves me with 77% setup and ui vs 23% actual task.1 -
After using Linux on my laptop for so long getting on my Win10 home setup is like nails on chalkboard
-
Question to experienced linux users: Whats the best way to setup install scripts/pipelines.
Say, I am re-installing my entire os (antergos, kde) and I want to automatically install software, set background image, set configs for jetbrains IDE's, setup shortcuts, desktop icons etc .. , what's the best way to do that? Bash scripts came to my mind at first but interacting with e.g. KDE can be annoying. Any ideas?1
