Today we have an exciting devRant announcement! As many observant members of the community have problably noticed, since launch we've been using the domain name devrant.io since the .com was already taken. Today, we're happy to announce, we now own devrant.com and it is now the official devRant URL!
How did this happen you ask? The devrant.com domain was already owned by a developer named Wiard when we launched devRant. It took a while to track him down, but when we did, turned out he saw the good we were doing and wanted to help the devRant community by generously offering us the .com domain for a very reasonable exchange (considering that we are a self-funded bootstrapped startup!).
Since Wiard recently started writing a blog on devrant.com, he had to find a new home for it. His new blog is https://sysrant.com and I encourage everyone to check it out! Great topical/educational dev/sys-admin related articles? Check. Someone who cares about the devRant community and allowed us to leave the firey hell that is .io? Check. So check it out!!
Some technical info:
This change is immediate and all devrant.io non-api requests will now redirect to devrant.com. We might have missed a few things (purposely or accidentely) so we're going to be going through and converting anything that's left. If you use the devRant API, your implementation should not break since API requests are meant to be excluded for now, but I highly recommend switching any API URLs to https://devrant.com so you can avoid issues in the future if we decide to stop redirecting devrant.io API requests. Also one note, there was an issue for about a minute after we turned on the redirected where some API requests to devrant.io might have 301 redirected to devrant.com. If an app you were using broke, try clearing whatever cache the 301 redirect might be stored in and the issue should go away.
Feel free to post any questions you might have here (and please let me know about any issues you might discover!), and once again, huge thanks to Wiard!79
First off, a Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates, happy holidays to everyone, and happy almost-new-year!
Tim and I are very happy with the year devRant has had, and thinking back, there are a lot of 2017 highlights to recap. Here are just a few of the ones that come to mind (this list is not exhaustive and I'm definitley forgetting stuff!):
- We introduced the devRant supporter program (devRant++)! (https://devrant.com/rants/638594/...). Thank you so much to everyone who has embraced devRant++! This program has helped us significantly and it's made it possible for us to mantain our current infrustructure and not have to cut down on servers/sacrifice app performance and stability.
- We added avatar pets (https://devrant.com/rants/455860/...)
- We finally got the domain devrant.com thanks to @wiardvanrij (https://devrant.com/rants/938509/...)
- The first international devRant meetup (Dutch) with organized by @linuxxx and was a huge success (https://devrant.com/rants/937319/... + https://devrant.com/rants/935713/...)
- We reached 50,000 downloads on Android (https://devrant.com/rants/728421/...)
- We introduced notif tabs (https://devrant.com/rants/1037456/...), which make it easy to filter your in-app notifications by type
- @AlexDeLarge became the first devRant user to hit 50,000++ (https://devrant.com/rants/885432/...), and @linuxxx became the first to hit 75,000++
- We made an April Fools joke that got a lot of people mad at us and hopefully got some laughs too (https://devrant.com/rants/506740/...)
- We launched devDucks!! (https://devducks.com)
- We got rid of the drawer menu in our mobile apps and switched to a tab layout
- We added the ability to subscribe to any user's rants (https://devrant.com/rants/538170/...)
- Introduced the post type selector (https://devrant.com/rants/850978/...) (which will be used for filtering - more details below)
- Started a bug/feature tracker GitHub repo (https://github.com/devRant/devRant)
- We did our first ever live stream (https://youtube.com/watch/...)
- Added an awesome all-black theme (devRant++) (https://devrant.com/rants/850978/...)
- We created an "active discussions" screen within the app so you can easily find rants with booming discussions!
- Thanks to the suggestion of many community members, we added "scroll to bottom" functionality to rants with long comment threads to make those rants more usable
- We improved our app stability and set our personal record for uptime, and we also cut request times in half with some database cluster upgrades
- Awesome new community projects: https://devrant.com/projects (more will be added to the list soon, sorry for the delay!)
- A new landing page for web (https://devrant.com), that was the first phase of our web overhaul coming soon (see below)
Even after all of this stuff, Tim and I both know there is a ton of work to do going forward and we want to continue to make devRant as good as it can be. We rely on your feedback to make that happen and we encourage everyone to keep submitting and discussing ideas in the bug/feature tracker (https://github.com/devRant/devRant).
We only have a little bit of the roadmap right now, but here's some things 2018 will bring:
- A brand new devRant web app: we've heard the feedback loud and clear. This is our top priority right now, and we're happy to say the completely redesigned/overhauled devRant web experience is almost done and will be released in early 2018. We think everyone will really like it.
- Functionality to filter rants by type: this feature was always planned since we introduced notif types, and it will soon be implemented. The notif type filter will allow you to select the types of rants you want to see for any of the sorting methods.
- App stability and usability: we want to dedicate a little time to making sure we don't forget to fix some long-standing bugs with our iOS/Android apps. This includes UI issues, push notification problems on Android, any many other small but annoying problems. We know the stability and usability of devRant is very important to the community, so it's important for us to give it the attention it deserves.
- Improved profiles/avatars: we can't reveal a ton here yet, but we've got some pretty cool ideas that we think everyone will enjoy.
- Private messaging: we think a PM system can add a lot to the app and make it much more intuitive to reach out to people privately. However, Tim and I believe in only launching carefully developed features, so rest assured that a lot of thought will be going into the system to maximize privacy, provide settings that make it easy to turn off, and provide security features that make it very difficult for abuse to take place. We're also open to any ideas here, so just let us know what you might be thinking.
There will be many more additions, but those are just a few we have in mind right now.
We've had a great year, and we really can't thank every member of the devRant community enough. We've always gotten amazingly positive feedback from the community, and we really do appreciate it. One of the most awesome things is when some compliments the kindness of the devRant community itself, which we hear a lot. It really is such a welcoming community and we love seeing devs of all kind and geographic locations welcomed with open arms.
2018 will be an important year for devRant as we continue to grow and we will need to continue the momentum. We think the ideas we have right now and the ones that will come from community feedback going forward will allow us to make this a big year and continue to improve the devRant community.
Thanks everyone, and thanks for your amazing contributions to the devRant community!
Looking forward to 2018,
- David and Tim54
New devRant web app for desktop is now live! (https://devrant.com - the .com will now redirect to feed if you are logged in) Let us know what you think, and especially if you spot any bugs (very likely some slipped through). Some cool new features are still in development, will be out shortly.70
Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates, happy holidays to everyone, and happy almost-new-year!
Tim and I wanted to reflect on the year devRant has had, and looking back, there are a lot of awesome things that happened in 2018 that we are very thankful for. Here are just a few of the ones that we thought of (this list is not exhaustive and I'm definitley forgetting stuff, so please comment about those!):
- After nearly a year in the making, the completely overhauled devRant web version was launched (https://devrant.com/rants/1255714/...)
- @linuxxx became the first devRant user to hit 100,000++! (https://devrant.com/rants/1157415/...)
- We once again pulled off the greatest April fools joke everrrr (https://devrant.com/rants/1311206/...)
- @trogus started making awesome devComics and http://devcomics.com was launched
- We added a feature to allow rant filtering by post type (https://devrant.com/rants/1354275/...)
- We made it so avatars could have expressions! (https://devrant.com/rants/1563683/...)
- We had a booth at TechDay New York and got to meet some devRant users! (https://devrant.com/rants/1394067/...)
- We made major backend architectural improvements - including spinning up a special high-powered-CPU web server to handle avatar creation and make the creation process much faster (https://devrant.com/rants/1370938/...)
- App stability: mainly Android - we fixed crashes, did a push-notif overhaul, and tried to continue making the apps better and more stable
- A record amount of devRant meetups were held, and we couldn't be more proud about that, and we thank every person who organized one! (just a few: https://devrant.com/rants/1588218/... https://devrant.com/rants/1884724/... https://devrant.com/rants/1683365/... https://devrant.com/rants/1922950/...)
We had a busy year, and despite some things going on for us personally and some setbacks around those, we think this was a very productve year for devRant and that we are going in the right direction. We're continuing to constantly evaluate feedback from members of the community to decide where to take the app next. We're fully committed to improving the devRant community in 2019 and we have a lot of ideas about how we can do that. We're working on some things, but we're not really announcing them yet, so please sit tight for those :) In the meantime, feel free to let us know what you'd like to see improved/added the most as we always like to get updated feedback from the community.
As always, thank you everyone, and thanks for your amazing contributions to the devRant community!
Looking forward to 2019,
- David and Tim32
Introducing new Notif filters! Now on mobile, all your notifications are broken up into category tabs and you can clear each category separately. No more digging for mentions!
Also we just released a new image preview for when a rant is shared on FB, Twitter, etc. which includes the ranter's avatar image. You can see it by sharing a rant on social media, or check out an example here: devrant.com/rants/1036286/image.png (if you change the rant ID, you can see others)48
Wan't your own personal devBanner?
Now you can have one!
We're building a powerful banner generator over here: https://devrant.com/collabs/...
The first version is up and running, still basic tho.
You can generate your own by calling this URL:
You'll have to replace "Kimmax" with your devrant name and the value after subtext with the extra text.
A cool domain is already on it's way!
We'll be working on a frontend and a ton of extra features to make this banner even more awesome.
If you got any nice ideas add them to the issue tracker here: https://github.com/cozyplanes/...
devComic #3 "The Pizza Paradox" adapted from a rant by @molynerd (https://devrant.com/rants/178708/)9
To all the people giving advice in my previous rant (https://devrant.com/rants/1627035/...), thanks!
I've spent a weekend running high and naked through the forest, and decided to quit my job.
Fuck PHP. Fuck Laravel. Fuck hipster startup companies. Rasmus Lerdorf, Taylor Otwell and my CEO can all go suck each other's cocks in a sloppy mess of saliva, cum and type errors.
I'm so sick of spinach smoothies and weakly typed languages. All active record ORMs are retarded, VueJS is worse than JQuery, Fatal error: Call to a member function iHatePHP() on null. WHY DOES PHP EVEN HAVE METAPROGAMMING METHODS, WHY THE FUCK DOES LARAVEL CHOOSE EASY OVER SAFE.
I'm going to use my heavily abused Macbook to surf out of this mess, on a collapsing wave of unresolved bugs.
On to the next PHP/Laravel job at a hipster startup!26
Issue 0 of devRant Comics! Based on the epic rant by @cdrice (https://devrant.com/rants/451202/) Let me know what you think!24
practiseSafeHex’s most incompetent co-worker follow up: Candidate 1, “T”.
(For those wondering WTF I’m talking about: https://devrant.com/rants/1148190/...)
Forgot to mention something that happened with T that I find hilarious. T had a pretty profound effect on the company / team. It was a small startup, CEO + 4 of us, so we were all kinda close.
The day T was fired we decided this was too big of a moment to forget, so we created T_____ day, and to this day despite all working in different places we still meet up for drinks on October 24th to celebrate getting rid of that nut bag.2

Will meet our legend @wiardvanrij (the one who sold his devrant.com domain to dfox/trogus) later today if traveling goes well.
Rest In Peace My Dad. now he is going to follow my uncle. the best two person and developers in my world. as a lone survivor, your memory will continue to be remembered propagate through my life.
for fellow devRanters, Always love your family more when they're still in your side. doesn't matter how harsh, how bad they are; you can always find the meaning, the values life will give you, and that will be the best presents your parent will give you. Always. stay creative, they will be proud.
the short story of my dad : https://devrant.com/rants/1630147/...40
Finished the script for calming* rants and comments down and even made a fancy readme this time:

So... yesterday was the red Moon and Mars was visible and so much more. I took a lot of pictures with my telescope. I also took a 4k Video for 5 Minutes (my storage is now full)

After this enjoyable rant
I got fucked in the ass:
The meeting got delayed to 2018-03-28
They discarded the prototype
I have to develop this fucking shit practically all alone
I'm so fucking pissed that I scheduled a fucking 3 hours meeting to monday and who dares to fucking go off topic on this meeting is gonna be fucking harassed for real.6

Earlier I posted this small Red hat, which my friend got when he attended a Red hat conference (https://devrant.com/rants/1346887/...)
Same guy, I found his keys today and saw him using an old RAM as a keychain.26
To whoever messed with my devrant-client tests by constantly downvoting the posts and them being hidden from the API, you're a cunt and I hope you break your neck falling out a 12 story building. :)
Here's the final test to verify shit works too: https://devrant.com/feed/recent
Edit: it works, get fucked you humid piece of shit.
Edit2: To give context to whoever might be subscribed to me and might or might not have been bombed with notifications:
Was working on the plugin system for the devrant client and async was giving me hell, the links I posted were to test the plugin that first has to execute a $.get and only then can return a linkified rant-text.11
Okay so if you click on my profile and scroll down (all the way to the end) my first post on devRant was about me making a website for my best friend and ask her out that way. An update on that... we got married :3
And this was the second post about it https://devrant.com/rants/704942/...7
NFSW post and might offend some.
I wanted to post this but @sharktits's
post inspired me to do so: https://devrant.com/rants/1384046/...
Let's talk of AI taking our jobs, I am interested. We still have a lot of poor kids picking up rags from roads and people cleaning gutters.
Where the fuck is technology?
Why isn't government focusing on those areas?
Why aren't corporations not concerned about manual labour which needs immediate attention?
I feel, technology is more of a luxury toy for rich than a tool for poor to survive and improve their lives.23
Devrant black theme is here! Thanks to @Floydian and @Stuxnet for the idea and the tag! You can also grayscale all images, for that late night devrant viewing.

As a tester I have to test the product on Internet Explorer 11 running on Windows 7 which pisses me a lot.
Imagine 3 sessions of IE 11 running at once with each having atleast 10 active tabs open of a product built in COBOL?
Well, things escalate when I am under pressure and have to deliver on time as it forces me to multitask.
I have to quickly switch tabs and windows.
That's when our dear IE decides to stick a rod up its ass and I lose all of my sessions and work halfway.
Have to then start all over again.
Fuck Internet Explorer. That's it.14
Ok, I'm adding devrant.com, reddit.com and youtube.com to my hosts file for the next weeks
PS: If I answer or ++ any of your comments, it means I failed. You devs can hold me accountable for that, thank you!4
Thank you to everyone that is helping out with devCredits!
I honestly didn't expect people to bother contributing.. but apperently I was wrong.
For the people already working on it, check the readme file for a Todo list if you want something to do.
And for the people that want to help or just saw that this is a thing right now, check out my recent collab for info.

My internet got finally fixed. Currently, it is also very fast. Very very fast.
Followup on my previous post highlighting ads on devRant (https://devrant.com/rants/1467574/...)
David's response cleared most of our doubts and yes, I am okay with ads.
But the 'Supporter' tag looks good, doesn't it?
Welcome me to the supporter's club bitches 😎15
Got a question for the linuxers.
I'm a linuxer myself (no shit) but I don't really tweak a lot. Whenever I see those awesome arch setups with tiling wm's etc (https://devrant.com/rants/1902395/ for example), I would love to set that up myself but one thing:
Any idea on how I'd be able to run this well with 6 screens? I've got genuinely no clue.25
Raise your hand up! *clapping intensifies*
Continued from the famous " i am a teen, no credit card " rant : https://devrant.com/rants/1592122/...7
Fuck it. I have cats - id rather replace ads with something I want to read.
Here's a simple catblock clone that replaces ads with rants.
Looks like I'm destined to be fucked in the ass every time I'm on vacation...
This boss : https://devrant.com/rants/1330624/...
Told me he is gonna implement the new backend of a web app we have while I'm on vacation...
He was trying stuff with python for it and I tried to explain him the benefits of polymorphism and the ideas behind it and he was looking clueless, as always...
I'm screwed... Last time I went on vacation they started using react ( no complains ) and firebase ( fuck this shit ) ...
Now we are moving this web app away from firebase but I can see it is gonna be shit and a lot of rants will follow from his "back end" that this motherfucker here is gonna have to help implement after 2 weeks of fucked up code...5

Basically finished the notification filter script* already, but there's still some small bugs I want to get to first, so in the meanwhile I created a "subscribe" button script**, that simply posts a pin emoji and "Subscribing to the comments".
On desktop I usually used to post a dot to subscribe to rant comments, but with the new people wave, that was often misunderstood (you emoji users won the evolution of comment subscribing, RIP dot) I'm sure some other people that use the webapp more often, will find it useful too.

For the one piece lovers put there. My buddy made the ship and although i'm not good at watching anime i appreciate the work he puts in. I'm just here sharing hes work, maybe its for you and maybe it isn't but as a person i would like to live in a world where everyone got to achieve some success doing something they love.

Have a good day all7
@carlos4068 I hope you forgive me for sharing that meme.

Deadline is tomorrow as per this rant
I taught my boss how to work his way around spring-boot + maven + jpa, I did a really good job with the classes and interfaces so he could update the project while I was on my two week vacation.
I set up CI/CD so no one should have to ssh into servers to make master branch live and I set up webhooks on gitlab to warn me on slack if anyone pushed any code.
Tomorrow is the deadline.
Tomorrow is the last day of my vacation.
No pushes made to gitlab, hence no deployment trigerred.
I'm here wondering if the fucker will push it on the last minute just to fuck it up tremendously.
Tomorrow I'm going to the movies and gonna turn my phone off :)4

My broken display is being replaced by a brand new one by Lenovo under warranty.
So apparently they're using Debian now in Paris at the train station 😁😁😁

I finally built my own neural network model.
I did start this journey a long time ago. Maybe 2 or 3 years ago. My first ("undefined") rant :) was about it.
Loving rantBlock 🙂
I just re-enabled it to show a friend... I really do some of my best work at 2am 😂
This collab is still (to the best of my knowledge) the most popular collab on devRant. I ranted a while back that it's open to anyone who wants to get involved to work on production version to publish to mozilla, google etc. Personally I would love to build the rant replacement functionality into a fork of uBlock but I simply don't have the time at the moment - so if your looking for a side project...
Collab LInk: https://devrant.com/collabs/...3
When my company signs a contract with employees, they put the income as minimum wage, and verbally agree with him that they'll pay the rest of the income (which is about 3 times the minimum wage) as extra work, so they wont pay a lot for taxes. The employee has no choice but to accept.
But when the pay time comes, the company will only pay the minimum wage, making employees unable to sue.
This ultimately causes employees doing things like moving all project files to pen drives, telling the CEO about it, making the CEO run after them to the streets begging for the pen drive, and when he finally softens and gives them the drive, they open the zip files inside it to see (I shit you not) images of people flipping the bird.

As a follow-up to my comment on this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/1029538 I want to share with you my new project: BinToBmp!
It converts any file into a beautiful bitmap image illustrating all bytes as pixels. Each byte indicates an index to a color table (very happy bitmap makes it this simple).
Useful? No. Fun to make? Hell yeah!
Take a look at it on my github page:
Print your favorite song and hang it on the wall or make a shirt from your latest compiled application. So many possibilities!
More infos in the readme.
Updates coming soon :)
P.S.: The image displays the converted jar.32

Last October, I was feeling really lost as a student. I posted a rant here (https://devrant.com/rants/1812123/...) as I had no one to talk to. I got a little support, but the advice I got really meant a lot to me.
I buckled up, did some learning and a small project, and today I am the NLP intern at an Organization that has really reputed clients.
Thank you devrant. Thanks everyone.
I have nothing for this week's topic as my interview went really well :P
So I will continue last weeks topic.

Do the new devduck capes say "devrant.com" on the back? Or do they still say "devrant.io"5
The guy I was ranting about yesterday (https://devrant.com/rants/1243807), told me he saw me posting here... 😅
After further inquiry, he said he didn't read what I was typing or so I hope. He seems to be more quiet today. 😆5
today is one the worst day of 2018, after this
I was looking through the websites which were made in the company last year, and while looking at a website I said: "this website is looking total shit, what the fuck is this".
Guess what, the guy who made the website was there and more worst he's my senior, I'm currently doing a project with him. He was not happy with this comment ( I thought the guy who made this left the company ). I totally fucked up.
Now I will search for another job. I can't bear this.3

Inhave been playing around woth fractals and making trees (although it wasnt 3 dementional) i have been taking time to learn things there regardless and had an attempt at making a landscape using Perlin noise procedurally generated by the computer
I am planning on releasing the code as soon as i figure out making these trees geberate at certain points of the land and firstly, make it branch in a 3 dementional space
Update of the land
Although i dont have the most time to so this and had to learn java in the process to move away from the limitations i had in the browser. It is a fun experiance and good break away from my actual job.
Ill see how it goes while working on this

Apparently my dad decided to adopt the Windows file system hierarchy for his business.
He has managed to store his video, picture, and music folder INSIDE the DOCUMENTS folder. And there are seperate video, picture, and music folders outside of this folder. The business information is in all of these folders adding up to about 600GB of data in 10 different folders and 4 trees. Nothing has been deleted since 2010. WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING CHRIST ON A FUCKING POGO-STICK IS THIS ABOMINATION. I AM GOING TO JUMP OFF A CLIFF NAKED AND ON FIRE BEFORE I TRY TO SORT THIS SHIT.13
I somehow can't stop laughing at the comment I posted.
@htlr "devRant has a rendering bug under weekly topic"

@electrineer "Dead pixel won't show up on screen shot"

Few days ago, I posted a collab (https://devrant.com/collabs/...) and @j4cobgarby was interested in the same.
We connected over e-mail and started working towards the final product.
Soon things started taking shape and we were live very soon after we started.
Our Twitter bot, a tribute to the free encyclopedia (Wikipedia) is live and working smoothly.
Have a look and follow us at https://twitter.com/___Wikipedia
May thanks for @j4cobgarby for his invaluable contribution. We look forward to many such collabs.

Devs of devRant, I need some help implementing the dark theme on my website.
I wanted to implement one since a long time, but the post other day by @bhouston (https://devrant.com/rants/1434663/...) and following discussion with @JoshBent and @Alice pushed me further to do it as early as possibly.
Here is my solution:
I have created two CSS files (one for light and another for dark, placed in same folder).
The CSS should switch when the user toggles the switch.
I wish to install following switch: https://codepen.io/jsndks/pen/...
As a QA, I have limited knowledge of how to implement the switch across my and storing the session in a cookie.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!49
Why I love this community : I posted this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/1084912/...
And by once @Root wrote a comment about lmgtfy, I was looking for that since more than a month didn’t remember name and by once I got it without asking!
Thank you @Root and this fucking awesome community.
Hope to spend happy coming years with y’all!17
Me: Boss you told me to come and talk to you regarding my performance on Monday but you went on leave.
Boss: I said that out of frustration. I forgot that you have already resigned so no use saying anything to you.
My worst devExperience since there are dev evperiences for me, was when I had to rewrite a pretty important tool to the new onlineshop we created.
My best devExperience in 2017 was going live with one of our biggest web projects I had to develop all alone and hearing only great feedback. My boss told me there were more than 30'000 visitors one day after going live.
It was and still is quite satisfying. 😎1

Hello fellas! 👋
I recently told you that I’m planning to pull out Chaaat – a fully open source messenger that doesn’t track you and doesn’t share your data: https://devrant.com/rants/1549251/....
The project is also mentioned here: https://devrant.com/rants/1570178/...
So, I’m here to tell you good news – a great developer, @not-a-muggle, decided to join me, and now we made a team!
I also made some conversations and acquired “chaaat” name from another team on Heroku, so now we have consistent domain name on both Heroku and GitHub Pages.
We have Trello board with very well described tasks almost anyone can do. We also have Slack to have both business and free conversations.
If you’re seeking a place to contribute and gain some NodeJS / React / PWA / WebRTC experience with detailed code review from experienced developer, just mention me here or shoot me an email on email@example.com. Provide your email so I’ll be able to contact you.
Our main goals are:
1. Have fun and some experience
2. Make it to Chrome Experiments mention
Marketing/advertising help is much appreciated.
Feel free to email me anytime!10
Well, I am bit late to the party, but we had good amount of questions asking people to share their different kinds of individual experiences.
How about weekly questions that inspire and initiate discussions within community?
Instead of we posting our experience(s) and waiting for karma, why not interact with fellow community members and learn something by sharing opinions and knowledge?
Topics can be anything, past inventions to latest trends. Age old business tech tycoon to what Linus said in his latest interview. Upcoming gadgets to opinions over Google I/O.
This was inspired by @SantaClauze's post (https://devrant.com/rants/1609300/...)4
Part 2 of this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/933393/...
Today I received the source code of the application, it has like four views but guess what, all four views have their controllers in one controller.js file that is about 1400 lines of code.
Also all their data models are in one file,
everything is in one file.
Does anyone know how to make it through that shit :(16

I am thinking about making a crowdfunding campaign - should I? I am a terrible person when it comes to recruiting people and getting people to actually become interested in such thing. I hate using my voice also in order to create some promotional video also.
I know that some of you are interested in such thing, but how many of you would actually contribute to such project with your time, coding skill or money?
I am looking into to buy some SuperMicro stuff (would probably cost me around $4000) in order to get started but I am very unsure.7
So... After this bullshit https://devrant.com/rants/1523838/...
Me: hey boss, so.. I made a list out of those PowerPoint's on Trello ( more than 50 cards ) , can we sit later to priorize them?
Boss: well.. We can but for me all those are important. And we are gonna have those other requests (THIS IS THE HUGE ONE) next week.
Me inside: aaaaahhhh... Scream to your faceeeee!!! I'm gonna kill you and use your skull as a fucking mug!!! Motherfucker!!!
Our deadline is end of this month :)4

Follow up on my previous Apple's poor sense of design's post (https://devrant.com/rants/1347862/...)
I posted this on other platform and had a reasonably good response from on of the users, as to why Apple does this.
Got 1 star and 1 fork in git feels awesome. Or been a year since I joined git.
Todo conky widget for Linux I build received a star. U can add and delete to-do using terminal, so I feel its cool. https://devrant.com/rants/1402297/... has screenshot.
A bash script I wrote was forked. That was for logging into college wifi page. The routers used to disconnect very often and downloads u to be stalled on fluctuation in electricity. This login script would re-login on connecting back to college WiFi using polling mechanism
Currently working alone, hope soon i will put up some colab work.3
So after @danacus commented here https://devrant.com/rants/1860006/... about a command called "tp" to teleport from one directory to another, I felt the urge to write myself such tool. This was one of my first pure bash projects and I'm happy to announce that it finally is finished! I really hate self-promotion but since I use this tool in every single bash session and find it very convenient, I decided to share it with y'all. I'd be super glad if you give me your opinion about it!

Small update to this rant
A classmate of mine lend me his old laptop with an SSD and an HDD and I could install Ubuntu Budgie on it and use it while my laptop is under repairment. The thing is, this temporary laptop is pretty awesome and fast and the fact that I don't have to deal with all the NVidia proprietary drivers and other gaming laptop bs makes me pretty happy
Update to the story above: the HDD of the temporary laptop died (didn't have anything important on it, so no problem). But I must be going through some bad omen tech times, since, beside my laptop and this HDD dying, my cooking plate, inflatable mattress, some sockets and lightbulbs broke inside my apartment. Hail!
In context to my previous rant(s)*
As much as fixing up the pyload youtubecom plugin and giving back to the project sounds great, I'd be just shooting myself in the knee, because youtube-dl has active support that fixes things whenever they break, where as with the plugin I would have to constantly fix it based on what the youtube-dl project does.
So I might just write my own wrapper around youtube-dl since it apparently has progress_hooks that return all I'll need, might even get into python again, have been quite rusty on that.
Had some time again to work on my scripts and changed the calmifier script to detect mid-rant screaming and also make them half transparent after calming them - just to see how much actual screaming there was before.
That option can be turned on, by just setting inside the script "highlight_changes" to true, default is to not highlight them.
Anybody who doesn't update it now, will get the update depending on the tampermonkey update setting, which defaults to once a week iirc.

So I just had the interview. It wasn't too bad, but I caught myself stuttering and saying "uhh" way too frequently. I also kind of stumped my toe on a question about explaining a computer virus to someone.
Hopefully it'll go well in the end.4

It's coming along nicely, I've been working on different themes and I'm still making the tree more natural.
Next is to make the number of branches each time more random, and then I'll maybe add leaves. I might even add a day/night cycle, but we'll see once the code is further along and the automatic background updater is made.3
In relation to https://devrant.com/rants/1643249/...
The tree has started!
The lovely pycairo package was super easy to pick up, and I made a rather shitty looking fractal tree with it!
Next step is to figure out a color scheme I like, and to make the tree look more natural/better.
It's happening guys3
Since CoffeeNcode posted a rant about a new Dutch meetup (https://devrant.com/rants/2023874/...) I thought that I would share a date I know Ill be in Germany for meeting up with my internet friends.
Nothing is definite yet, but Im pretty sure that I will be around Bonn and Köln on the 5th of May. There is a free festival, Rhein in Flammen, with an amazing firework show. Last year I visited and it was a big success so I want to go this year too.
Depending on the amount of reactions I might stay a full weekend instead of being there for 10 hours (traveling there on one morning and leaving in the middle of the night)24
I recently saw someone complain because the name registrar would not name their daughter “is” because of their system (https://devrant.com/rants/1154582/...).
I have something to add.
Where I am from (India), local registrars intentionally misspell your name on the papers because than they can charge to a fee to fix it.
That’s why I hate India, too much bargaining for everything. This has happened twice in my family and both times we have refused to pay them.3

Now I can turn on/off my PC over the Internet. A little hacky but it works like a charm.

Hopefully more projects like these are coming 🤗4
So... has anyone yet made a comment about now exHead AMD Chief of GPU division Raja Koduri joining Intel?
Now this is awkward after I made this OC image not so long ago :/
Also in other news can we comment that Systemd has pretty much took over most linux distros? is this the new NSA backdoor? (before someone points out is open source, have anyone been able to properly audit it?)5
Ive decided to also become a supporter to help out devrant :)4
God hail @ScribeofGod to comment the following link on all rants mentioning about ++ conversion to binary 😂😂
in my last post (https://devrant.com/rants/1199511/...) @dfox agreed to go live with the community for interview.

Reading this rant below remembered me once that I was taking with a generic person at the street about computers. At some time, she said: "my boyfriend is a Hacker. A real hacker. He knows everything about computers. I am going to give him a book that he wants for his birthday: Linux for dummies."
She was not telling a joke...
Last night I posted a rant (link at bottom of this post) and what an amazing response from the entire community. Wow!!
It was fun reading the comments. Many even used programming language to convey their message.
I forgot to mention that please mention your language language and programming language. Haha..
@dfox @trogus I am sure you both must be proud after seeing people from across the globe unite at devRant.
Users from various geographies, belonging to different cultures, following various traditions, speaking so many languages and coding in many more are supporting devRant with all their will.
Truly incredible. :D
Part two of: a day off an iOS developer life:
1. App crashed and stack trace gives no info in which file it happened, I have a generic table view cell that is used in so many places and Xcode just wrote: xcell does not support key value.
2. Mac freezing when Xcode is creating IPA file thanks to a new feature in Xcode 9 (Mac freezing is the new feature, even mouse pointer doesn't move -.-)
3. Let's check the value of this class property, Xcode: fuck off and either print it in console (after hitting a break point) or expand that shitty tree at the bottom to reach your class property!
An advice: never click jump to definition when Xcode is indexing, it will either freezing Xcode or crash it.

So I was on a meeting with this (https://devrant.com/rants/1189203/...) guy's PM and he marked him on a front-end card on trello and I was like "HAHAHAHA BURN MOTHERFUCKER" on the inside.

Stuxnet's job quest part 3:
(TLDR for the two parts: I'm interviewing for a job at the tech support center at my uni. Had a phone interview last week, questions like they asked below.)
So they called the me Wednesday and asked to set up a face to face interview. I go in on Wednesday for the interview.
What kind of questions should I expect? Similar to the same ones asked during a phone interview, such as:
• If you could be anyone, who and why?
• What do you know about us?
• Steps you'd take to troubleshoot issues?
• Explain a virus to a technologically illiterate person.
Or are the face to face questions more in depth and I should prepare a bit more?2
guess what - it’s my anniversary of first joining devRant. I joined exactly 0x16d days ago, and it’s been great.
ive learnt so much, made more stuff, and y’all are great.
id like to follow up on my resolutions from last year ( https://devrant.com/rants/364344/... ), and im proud to say i did everything except the 3d game (i was looking opengl and got distracted by opencl).
when i first saw devRant, i was on a plane, coming home. i saw a news article and decided to check it out, and when i joined i quickly realized i was the second youngest on the platform. one year, 316 rants, 2181 comments, and a score of 18594++ later, here i am.
thanks for this wonderful platform!20

Can someone explain the node_modules joke to me please? I've seen it quite a bit now, but I still don't get it. (Attached an example from https://devrant.com/rants/760537/...). Thanks in advance.6
Holy shit! so after my last news report https://devrant.com/rants/1063342/... , I also shared the news in my site where there is a guy that works in a Washington ISP and also offer mail servers and such for the locals... fun and joke time has ended my friends, any SysAdmins here regarding this want to comment on this topic?13
TL;DR despite 0 year professional programming I am lead of a large travel booking web-app, this is new to me and my boss, who has repeatedly ignored my advice and moved me on before finishing work. Client is not happy, project is way overdue, and yet has just sent NEW FUCKING DESIGNS.
Client has sent some redesigns of core search functionality on a project that is overdue and over budget.
DO YOU ACTUALLY *WANT* THIS PROJECT TO FAIL?5
Renovated my desktop from light Mac like theme
To dark theme.
Feels so good to return to dark world.
Until now I was not using computer much so it was still a bright world. Now it is dark again3
Just another experiment to bring together the entire devRant community, asking them to share the story behind their username.
Great to see (rather read 😜), how everybody came up with the creative string.
Some are emotional attached to their names, some decided it randomly, whereas some tried combinations.
Last time it was about how they write 'Hello World' in their own language.
What are your views on this David and Tim?9

Update to https://devrant.com/rants/1415880/...
After numerous emails back and forth my colleague finally came to the conclusion that the customers WSUS is responsible (i might accidentally forgot to mention that in my original mail, oops :) ) but also blamed one of my other colleagues for enabling deduplication on the servers so he can't reliably tell wherever a hard drive is full. (??!?)
But anyway, no beeing sorry for him beeing wrong and impulsively blaming and disabling my scripts, because of course he's not.
I really god damn hate this guy. Were it not for this beeing devRant with a focus on devs i'd have a lot more stories of this special snowflake.1
Starting a project without a concrete design on paper (and not in your mind) and following anti-patterns as much as you can does not make you look like a badass developer, It just shows that your project (and you) still yet to face a nightmare that either makes you forget the project (or even this job) forever or makes you draw sequence diagram even for you next session of taking a waste. Yet, this is not the worst
The worst is that despite the continuous fails of the bad design, they won't give up the project (and coding) for goodness.
I ranted about a perfect example https://devrant.com/rants/1337927/...
TL;DR: Clients are still dumb.
The sequel to a previous rant ...
Client IT Lead: "We've loaded your code into our website, but *this* particular part of it isn't working."
Me: "Fair enough. I'll make a fix and have it deployed."
... an hour later, my changes are deployed, and I notify the client that the fix is live ...
CIL: "Thanks for fixing that so quickly! Just a heads up, but I've noticed that some of our own code needed fixing, so I've gone ahead and made some tweaks <that will most definitely break your code>."
... another hour passes ...
CIL: "Hey, so, I don't know what happened, but that fix you pushed stopped working."
Update to my laptop rant: https://devrant.com/rants/1822853/...
I finally got my gaming laptop back, with its motherboard changed under warranty, which was nice. Now all I gotta wait for is 1 month worth of Windows updates. Fun!1
Finally upgraded my webserver and php modules to support HTTP/2 ^^ Everything works fine.
Found out devrant.com doesn't support it though. @dfox8
I get in to the office today, and I'm informed that my ceramic origami swan (https://devrant.com/rants/1231342/...) fell and broke during office cleaning.
I'm now afraid to bring new stuff into the office for my desk2

The same friend from my previous fb rant

After being banned by PayPal for no clear reason (https://devrant.com/rants/1467792/...), I think this will be a good alternative. It acts as if you have a local bank in USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, or CNH! How cool is that!3
Today I got a message from a "friend" of @Alice and me, for a long time. And I was already ranting by myself, because this little fucker is writing maybe two or three times a year, just to have a computer support, like now. He needed help, because a game was crashing everytime at a specific point, and I advised him to reinstall the game, which he can't, because of his slow internet. His answer stated, that he would have only slow internet right now. After this I explained him, that his internet is for around 2.5 years slow. And 2.5 years aren't "right now". I'm still waiting for any reaction.
It's the same fucking guy in Alice's wk post here: https://devrant.com/rants/1564585/...3

Well after having a major sense of humour failure last week https://devrant.com/rants/1365062/...
My company has an internal application that is used for billing clients and customers. There are several versions.
Starting next week the consultant who wrote this and I will be sitting down together for about 2 hours or so twice a week to start going through the code stuff etc.
I already have a job to start testing a new version this program, and this version is going to be handed over to me and will be my baby.
Things are starting to look up, I’m still trying to get them to swap my PC for a laptop though, so I can do work from home etc.

Anyone up for Linux vs. Apple debate/discussion?
I like Apple for their design, simplicity, quality and early innovation (which ended when Steve left).
I dislike Apple for selling their stuff expensive, surveillance and monopoly (as in dictating in their own way)/
I like Linux for its open source community, ability for user to configure it, privacy.
I dislike Linux because it is not user friendly in any way, requires quite a technical knowledge for layman to use.
Maybe wrong comparison between a company and OS, but anyway you get the point, right?
How about open source vs closed source?28

Ok, I am using this program again, this time with 43 programs (i guess), and it saves me at least 30 minutes.
Some were interested how I made it, well, another person (who is not in devrant) helped me (and he is not from stackoverflow) make it.
You can see how it works (the frontend) by looking at the image below.
I am afraid that I can't release the source now, and maybe not soon because of personal reasons.
Back to the point, I found a massive bug there, you can see "Finding uninstaller" in the middle of the two, and I can't fix it, so I shall just leave it alone.
It is Saturday now or Sunday I guess, take a good rest, and get back to work in Monday! (or school for students)

Currently running a gentoo compiler task using all 8 virtual threads. Before, I would have my fans blowing at full speed with the die temps hovering in the high 70s and into the 80s. Now that I removed the dust from my cooler, its sitting at 75C max with barely any fan speedup. Awesome!

So my cool team lead and a fellow dev are putting down their papers next week.So thats 3 folks out of your team of 5 leaving . I usually deal with this by giving info and advice to whoever needs it, posting some occasional meme on our discord server, sometimes add a little something when we are in discussion, giving out smiles (I'm good at faking them) and avoiding people whenever possible.
I have friends in my class, just enough to count on one hand, and I enjoy spending time with them, but for the others I just do what is required by social conventions."
Are you willing to share details of your salary, or for contractors your daily/hourly rate? If you're not, that's interesting to know too.
Interesting to know;
- Currency (hopefully obviously)
- Location of work (or if remote, primary location of employer?)
- Contract type (FT/PT employee, contractor/freelancer)
- Job title (or general activity for contractors)
- Number of years in role/contracting
- Whether or not you would or have shared your salary with a co-worker (perhaps you're willing to share here but not with a co-worker)
The 'Why is it soooo taboo to ask co-workers salary?' question made me think about this (https://devrant.com/rants/1557306/...)10
follow up from my previous rant
after a conversation with the intern product owner he came up with the idea of me going to the client and sit next to the person who send me the csv file.... and 'work it out together'... THE INSTRUCTIONS AREN'T IN FUCKING OLD GREEK! Even a potato could do it... No wait, potato's are too smart for that... I mean... it are easy work hours... Without doing much....
But I didn't become a programmer in order to sit next to the client and 'work it out together'... It would also suck to go to the client because I have no drivers licence (never had to have one, yay public transit!)
Why can't it be Christmas already? I could use some free time....
Continuing my story from this post:
So today I've been working on building a backup for my dad's EOL PC by porting his files to a dropbox backup. He didn't have any backup solution to speak of and was running a taxable business...
I don't know what's more frustrating, my old man not having a backup when he knew he was supposed to or the 11 hours to back up everything on dropbox for him.
Time to make some tea and continue my REACT work with this in the background I suppose. :)
So it's been 22 days and were still going strong without a single day's downtime! https://devrant.com/rants/1147150/...2
Remember how I made script to change brightness with keyboard shortcuts? https://devrant.com/rants/1845183/...
Well, after 2 days of complaining why the fuck this shit does not work anymore, I figured out I deleted it...also from trash.... OH, FUCK!!!3
You see that ?
It didn't change. At all.
Let's call it an emergency but let's not do it, yeah.1
Wow TNW is really up to date haha.
Posted that months ago!
Update to my previous rant:
This is what I got and below is what I sent. None of the added message was in our chat history which is creepy since it wasn't just a word that changed 😟
Objective: drill a huge hole in the Apple!
Following rant: https://devrant.com/rants/1564522/...
So... Apple music store saves the music in m4a in the app folder, so no other apps can access the music.
It saves it with wird file names, no structure.
I'm noob at basicly anything, and because I'm on vacations I have a cellphone with python basicly.
How can I get the music info from the files, change the files names to their singer/group + song music and latter sort them in folders by artist, then by album4
made me realise since I was little, I wanted to register
- my_surname.com (its a Hungarian name but there is a french comic strip on the site lol)
- then i wanted to register my_surname.sk since I'm from Slovakia (nope someone has a chain of petrol stations with this name)
- well its awkward but lets do my_surname.eu (my surname is the name of a traditional Hungarian needlework so no fuck you)
- ok, I'm a Hungarian so lets do my_surname.hu (well fuck you i wont even load, but I'm already taken so..)5
I feel with @gipsydanger
I had to work with snake case columns with a maximum name length of 16 characters. Abbreviations, acronyms and undocumented adfixes. The ORM models were generated with resolved pendants of the column names. There are typos in name resolving and some adfixes were used with different understandings which result in completely wrong field/property names for the ORM. As this ORM class generating process is separated from migrations some people did not care or check on the ORM.

Quick question/update over a previous rant.
My netbook battery status was always 100% on Lubuntu 18.10, I switched to Xubuntu and the same happens, but it reports correctly with Puppy Linux (old version). I thought the problem was in the battery itself, but now I think it's due to some broken drivers in newer version of Debian-based distros, or it is a bug in newer Linux kernel. But since I have no time to spend on a spare netbook, I'm not willing to test more options.
Anyone has a clue? 🤔
So, 28 days ago ranted:
Update: Finally, the integration worked. I can sleep well tonight. I can have a party tonight.
Things left are code review and then git push.2
Remember this : https://devrant.com/rants/1547095/... ?
FINALLY some updates.
Just to say they deleted the branch I was trying to merge on during the month, so I need to redo the pull request and rebase.
It seems google index this link: https://devrant.com/search/...
for that query:
The Crashlytics build ID is missing. This occurs when Crashlytics tooling is absent from your app's build configuration.

To continiey react jurney.
I almost finished the site.
It's blazing fast and super easy.
React just feel organized and natural.
I am ashamed it took me souch time to get the idea of it.
Feels like writing react will be almost bugless.

I've finally found a job that I like both from the compensation point of view and the job itself 😁🎉
Can't be more happy.1
I posted a photo of my setup a while ago, for week 119 ( https://devrant.com/rants/1675608/... ). I have now upgraded my keyboard, mouse and screen and thought I'd share a photo of it. Have a fantastic weekend. I know I will!3

THEY CAN'T READ THE VERY FIRST LINE OF MY LINKEDIN CV! IT SAYS:

I am most probably going to choose the study program "Ingenieurinformatik" (in English: "engineering informatics" or aka "computer systems in engineering").
It combines mechanical engineering, [...] with informatics. Cptn. Obvious.4
I had originally written a rant, asking about workflows. It then devolved into something much worse > Reddit-like taunting and whining.
Now before I go any further, yes I fell into his trap and sort of got taunted him back. Ill take half of the blame and hate that it might deserve.
So new question, why do people start off reading a rant (I thought my rant was a genuine question) and immediately enter a dick fighting contest? - myself included8
In connection to my previous rant :
Now it directly jumped to 100 %. Great job Microsoft

Fucking shit! So I built this new gaming rig: https://devrant.com/rants/1795588/...
Firstly the RAM does not fucking run on 3200MHz. The maximum stable speed is 3000MHz...
A secondly, the CPU is so fucking HOT! 50 degrees Celsius in BIOS, underclocking when I try to run stress test. I knew it is thermal paste, so I decided to take the cooler off and see and buy a new better paste and wtf AMD, their paste is so shit, that there was actually no layer of paste on the CPU, only on the edges big piles of it. WUT?6
Soooo... Following my previous lengthy post ( https://devrant.com/rants/985618 ), I talked with that friend of a friend and explained her what I could offer her. It turns out she's being funded, so she needs to have a receipt... What really amazes me is that she knew from the start that I can't freelance for now (the taxes are very high and the legislation requires payment even during periods of no work). Oh well, back to my personal projects... 😖
So some of you might know I'm facing youtube iframe issues, to autoplay them in mobile
So few weeks later I found a solution to make it work the way it should in mobile i.e. to autoplay after a click on svg play button,
The logic I used https://codepen.io/briangelhaus/...
Boy oh boy I was so fucking happy, jumped out of my chair basically, So I grab a couple of android devices and it works
Enter infamous E-Corp Apple, the logic I used will never work on any apple devices, because apple do not allow autoplay on mobile, So I was like "okay, no worries"
I tell this news to my manager who is aware that I am working on this since weeks and he looks astonished for a millisecond when after hearing the same can't be done Apple, Tells me "then the issue is not fixed"
Well, you're not wrong, but a little appreciation to a trainee / jr dev who accomplished this by manipulating this would mean a lot for me.
And to Apple and Youtube Iframe API, FUCK YOU3
Follow up to my previous rant ( https://devrant.com/rants/1680373/... )
I've contacted digital ocean support and asked them about that blocked port. They said that they didn't block it and that I must've messed up with configuration. The thing is, when I set postfix to port 2525 it works perfectly fine and I can connect no problem. Will see how they respond to that...4
So first day in the course (https://devrant.com/rants/2049071/...), the lecturer want's to tell us a joke but forgets the punchline...

As I will have a new job soon and it seems likely that it will be in network api design I wonder if you have good book recommendations on the topic.
I already have "clean code", "clean architecture" and "design patterns" in my pipeline, so I need something more specific on designing network (restful) service apis.

Just wanted to get back to my last rant on here: https://devrant.com/rants/1617720/...
So, even though the team still is slimming down we actually did manage to get the two applications live by the deadline. It took my saturday and a lot of hard work, but we managed to pull it off somehow. I'm so happy :)1

So I sign up for this fancy pants website were developers rant about shit. They ask me bunch of data mining personal questions upfront like a marketing bitch so I go through and fill out my profile. Ok it's a social site, whatever and nobody gives a fuck about me anyway. I hit save, continue and go to click the email that injects my lies into their database. But I figure I might go back and fix some of the lies I wrote about myself just in case Google craws it and somebody I meet in the future calls me liar. So I spend 10 minutes trying to navigate the whole website to find a way to get back there to edit the lies or even perhaps find some site help relating to profiles. Of course the profile page itself does not do this profile edit stuff and bugger me if there is no help at all on how to use this website. So I did the only thing I could and wrote this rant in the hope somebody knows how the fuck I cover my tracks on devrant.com4
In response to my own previous rant (https://devrant.com/rants/1538792/...) , I try and help my self, I asked few questions to my self, What do you need in life to live?
> a couple of friends
> a (good) job
> a girlfriend (optional)
> a sufficient salary
and I've got almost all of that, so I'm being optimistic on wards , and I'm installing Ubuntu so there's that, in the end it matters if your're *happy* and with all of this I still am not happy, I am being optimistic but not happy, there's something left out from, there's something I'm still missing out9

Hey guys, continuing the yesterday's topic...
This is the result of all I learned and tested yesterday.
Problem: new black filament from China.
Result, piece is bent and cracked.
Brim: fucking 25 mm
Inicial speed 20 mm/s
Adesion: glue stick + airspray + permanent glue spray
And the pieces still fucking bend in the table contact side.
Top is perfect except for some cracks, but the bellow side is just pressed to itself and bends, warping the piece.
What could I change now? What could be the problem and reason for this? Worked perfectly with the first white filament.31
Talked the bossman, he just asked that I finish the project before being put back on my usual ERP maintainer role.
I agreed to it and the faster this fucking plugin is done, the faster I can go back to my optimization and maintenance project :D
I just want to say,
wow the Cloudflare API is awesome.
In less then an hour (from a blank file - to automation and tested) I was able to setup a DDNS task that basically just pulls my public ip (see https://devrant.com/rants/2050450/... for details) comparing it to the current DNS records for and update them if anything has changed in the past 30 minutes.
So kudos to these guys letting me in next to no time having a simple yet elegant way of dealing with my missing static ip.
Why can’t all APis be this simple?2
Update to Doomsday !rant which can be found here: https://devrant.com/rants/1000628
Hey Everyone I'd like to let everyone know that I finally found the original file for my Doomsday Algorithm and thought it would be fun to show you the dirtiest code I've ever written (I was 12 when I wrote it).
here is the github link, https://github.com/LiamHolmesEPD/... , and I'll likely update it will more cleaner languages in the future.2
following former rant https://devrant.com/rants/1816992/ i implemented some features that enable a specialized search engine to process the content of my wifes custom site like a wordpress site. since the crawler relies on class-names i made an dynamic implementation of additional - non-used but crawlable - classnames. i called that method "classmate". i am a bit desperate.
Atlassian truly know its way to use marketing euphemisms in such a way that it feels like a slap in my face and kick into my groins.
The next time my app crashes and people come running to me that they cannot used it at all, I will simply state that I am looking into reports of people seemingly experiencing "degraded performance".
At least they are consistent, as they did that as well in the past with their [minor glitch](https://devrant.com/rants/922343/...) thing.1

Sooo, a follow up...
I talked to HoIT last week and he could see the issues, both on how my boss manages his team, but also a clear lack of resources.
He promised that I would be promoted in a some months.
Today, we had a talk with a broader audience. And everyone agrees that the current situation is unsustainable and we should do something now.
I expected HoIT to present his vision, with me as the lead of a new team. But... Nothing...
I tried to suggest the model, using his own words so he might remember.
Sooo anybody in need of a Team Lead/Architect around Frankfurt, Germany??
I think I found a bug (as in "It doesn't work on my machine").
If I try to go to the Swag Store from anyone's profile page, mine included(devrant.com/users/someUser), I get the "signup or login" form instead of the store page, even though I'm already logged in (I double checked). If I login anyway, I'm redirected to the homepage and never get to see the store. The link works from the homepage, however.
I'm on Firefox 59.0.3.
Is it just me ?

update on this
My first interview was kinda okay, I think I'm not in the mood to join them as well. They have to create a web app and they are considering Angular and React but they're more favorable to Angular which I haven't used yet.
Second went pretty well as per my expectation, those guys using React, Vue in which I'm more interested and they seemed friendly to me. Instead of stupid questions (tell me about yourself bla bla bla), they asked the only logical question which was more related to work and my experience. In the end, they asked me about my salary expectations and joining period, and I'm feeling positive about it.
Now I've to wait for next week to get a response from both interviews.1
So I just saw this rant https://devrant.com/rants/977587/... and I'm wondering what is your reason for not wanting to be tracked or watched?7
Follow-up of https://devrant.com/rants/2014517/...
It took me two days to finally get my discord bot to a specific voice channel in my guild/server. It turns out that there are two gateways and one https gateway. The https gateway, the main gateway with a websocket connection and a voice gateway (with udp I guess).
Guess that I will be able to let my bot speak at the end of this week.
The documentation of the Discord API is not so good. It contains examples that won't work even if correctly modified. That is why I joined the Discord API guild/server yesterday and they helped me find the solution to the "I get no response from the voice gateway".
It is only getting more complicated, but I love it. Maybe I love hurting myself lol.3

So my coworker has a displaying issue, and the support ticket took time to give answers that does not work. (To tell you, the answer started with "I think that..." You tried what you said or you just think?)
So we tried everything they proposed (initialize the lists used properly, reduces the amount of data, etc.), nothing works. Then I added my two-cents and tried something.
I deleted a CSS class on a div.
Voilà. Issue resolved, it works perfectly. Nice.

An explanation to this...
In JS whenever it sees '==' it has a set of rules that it follows before comparing quantities...
One such rule is...
When we compare a number with a boolean using '==' it first converts boolean into number then compares the two quantities...
So in this case..
When we convert true to number we get 1 and when we compare 1 and 2 they are obviously unequal hence we get false...1
