So 10 months ago i moved from Cambridge (UK) to Guildford (UK), due to moving this distance i started working from home and going into the office once a week.
Now after 10 months i have finally got my home office how i first imagined it. Everything runs from my laptop which is located on the shelving unit away from my desk. Everything plugs into it via 1 USB lead.
Setup:
27" 2560 x 1440 monitor flanked by two 1280 x 1024 monitors.
Asus Laptop (i5-6300HQ, 12GB ram, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD)
Home PC (i5-7600, 8GB ram, GTX 770)
Accessories:
StarTech USB hub - This allows me to plug my three monitors, keyboards, mouse and everything else into my laptop.
KVM switch - Allows me to swap between my Work PC and Home PC with a click of a button

Time to download a 20GB image on corporate network: 7 hours.
Time to tell my NAS at home to download the image, go home - by public transport - copy the 20GB file to my laptop (already downloaded before I get home) and travel back to the office... 1 hour 50 minutes.
My office even has fibre optic and my home copper...9 -
Being a developer has it's advantages: I wanted to apply for a internet subscription for my home but my home adress wasn't recognized by the provider. So i wanted to send a complain form but this was only possible by providing it with a client number, which I obviously didn't have.
So this was my solution 🎉

In a moment of boredom I decided to pen test the new system I've been writing on the live server. Ran sqlmap but forgot to proxy my connection.
DDOS protection kicked in and blocked the entire offices connection to the server, had to drive home quickly to use my home internet to un-blacklist my office ip. 😂10 -

The worst part about using the computers at my school is that my $200 mechanical rgb programmable keyboard with macro keys is at home.6

My current job:
Full time 9 to 6, outsourced security sysadmin, dealing with bullshit systems and stupid end users.
Getting home with barely enough strength to self learn and develop my own projects.

Left monitor is for my windows machine, right monitor swaps between my laptop and my PC (depends if I am working or not) laptop running Manjaro with i3 and the tablet on the whiteboard will be used for some monitoring in the future

Best thing about the flood here is Houston is getting to work from home for 3 weeks straight. Getting to get my home office in order and avoid traffic is awesome. Not really a rant. Not really sorry.1

I'm freelance and I work from home, despite being repeatedly told however my friends have no problem calling in for a cup of tea and a chat in order to stop that work. As a result, I've got to work late to make up for the lost time they've caused me during the working day.
I'm sick to death to explaining this to my friends who just don't understand that I "work from home," and that "I am not home from work."8 -
I'm going home!
For the past six months I've been on a contract that has kept me away from my family. On Saturday I will finally be moving back home. I'm elated to be seeing my family again, but I'm scared because I don't have a new job lined up. Wish me luck. -

I just set up SSHFS so I can play my media library on my TV without moving all my data!
Basically my setup is something like this:
*Gaming PC (with a total of 10TiB - 6TiB being used for my /home) located in my office
*Home Media PC (with total of 150GB) located in my living room
Everything I have is on my 6TB HDD, and just my Videos folder is larger than the hard drive in the Home Media PC, so I decided to set up SSHFS. After about 15 minutes of reading man pages and trying different configurations, I ended up just needing "sshfs -o nonempty -o allow_other [user]@[location]:/home/$USER/Videos /home/server/Videos/"

My new routine after getting Elden RIng has been:
1. Get home and work out.
2. Drink protein shake
3. Take a shower, clean up and play with me pp
4. Get out and play elden ring until my wife unglues me from the controller.

My new home office.
I haven't posted on DevRant in a while so thought I would share my new home office set up.
My old set up was great. Dual screen standing desk, fast desktop and great monitors.
Since having a new baby a few months back, the home office is now a nursery. My only option is to sit at the kitchen table or stand in the kitchen (I prefer standing).
So here it is, my new office. Laptop on a kids toy box, fit snugly between chopping boards and tomatoes.
And hey, I don't actually mind at all, I love my family.
Just remember that when life gives you tomatoes 🍅 ...
