Dad: why do these forms ask me to fill those random characters(captcha)
Me: to verify that you are human
Dad: as if animals can use computers
Me: 😅7 -
If you're going to bother to detect that my input is without hyphens, then you can certainly insert them for me too.8

I'm the only programmer for my employer. Today I finished a GUI and engine to let our managers easily post annoucments to our TVs.
Nothing crazy; PHP login screen, some forms, small database, and the app to run on the TVs.
When I told my manager it was up and running she asks "Since you can build that, can you start working on a tool to run voice analytics off of our agents phone calls?".
Sure.. I'll get right on that.. Follow up with me in 4 years.8 -
I’m a senior dev at a small company that does some consulting. This past October, some really heavy personal situation came up and my job suffered for it. I raised the flag and was very open with my boss about it and both him and my team of 3 understood and were pretty cool with me taking on a smaller load of work while I moved on with some stuff in my life. For a week.
Right after that, I got sent to a client. “One month only, we just want some presence there since it’s such a big client” alright, I guess I can do that. “You’ll be in charge of a team of a few people and help them technically.” Sounds good, I like leading!
So I get here. Let’s talk technical first: from being in a small but interesting project using Xamarin, I’m now looking at Visual Basic code, using Visual Studio 2010. Windows fucking Forms.
The project was made by a single dev for this huge company. She did what she could but as the requirements grew this thing became a behemoth of spaghetti code and User Controls. The other two guys working on the project have been here for a few months and they have very basic experience at the job anyways. The woman that worked on the project for 5 years is now leaving because she can’t take it anymore.
And that’s not the worse of it. It took from October to December for me to get a machine. I literally spent two months reading on my cellphone and just going over my shitty personal situation for 8 hours a day. I complained to everyone I could and nothing really worked.
Then I got a PC! But wait… no domain user. Queue an extra month in which I could see the Windows 7 (yep) log in screen and nothing else. Then, finally! A domain user! I can log in! Just wait 2 extra weeks for us to give your user access to the subversion rep and you’re good to go!
While all of this went on, I didn’t get an access card until a week ago. Every day I had to walk to the reception desk, show my ID and request they call my boss so he could grant me access. 5 months of this, both at the start of the day and after lunch. There was one day in particular, between two holidays, in which no one that could grant me access was at the office. I literally stood there until 11am in which I called my company and told them I was going home.
Now I’ve been actually working for a while, mostly fixing stuff that works like crap and trying to implement functions that should have been finished but aren’t even started. Did I mention this App is in production and being used by the people here? Because it is. Imagine if you will the amount of problems that an application that’s connecting to the production DB can create when it doesn’t even validate if the field should receive numeric values only. Did I mention the DB itself is also a complete mess? Because it is. There’s an “INDEXES” tables in which, I shit you not, the IDs of every other table is stored. There are no Identity fields anywhere, and instead every insert has to go to this INDEXES table, check the last ID of the table we’re working on, then create a new registry in order to give you your new ID. It’s insane.
And, to boot, the new order from above is: We want to split this app in two. You guys will stick with the maintenance of half of it, some other dudes with the other. Still both targeting the same DB and using the same starting point, but each only working on the module that we want them to work in. PostmodernJerk, it’s your job now to prepare the app so that this can work. How? We dunno. Why? Fuck if we care. Kill you? You don’t deserve the swift release of death.
Also I’m starting to get a bit tired of comments that go ‘THIS DOESN’T WORK and ‘I DON’T KNOW WHY WE DO THIS BUT IT HELPS and my personal favorite ‘??????????????????????14 -
Client: Extend string size for that URL field. I have to input a really large URL in there.
Me: Please show me the URL first.
Client: Here it is //randomurl.com/random-route/15363783?i=jfjfjfjjfjfjhf&shit=jfjfjkfkfkgjfjjhh74747jdjh&you=kfjfjbhgg779hdhhd¬=jfjhdh63737#fuckingKiddingMe
Me: You can leave the whole part after the question mark. Insert it like //randomurl.com/random-route/15363783
Client: Ok, great. Thanks.

--- Save some time with Google's .new-Domains ---
A few days ago, Google announced their new '.new' domains.
By using them you can save plenty of time when creating new Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites or Forms.
So instead of going to Google Drive and creating the document there, users can just input the corresponding URL into the browser!
Here are a few examples:
> 'doc.new' or 'docs.new' or 'documents.new' to create a new Google Docs document (https://doc.new/)
> 'sheet.new' or 'sheets.new' or 'spreadsheet.new' to create a new Google Spreadsheets document (https://sheet.new/)
> 'site.new' or 'sites.new' or 'website.new' to create a new Google Sites website (https://site.new/)
> 'slide.new' or 'slides.new' or 'deck.new' or 'presentation.new' to create a new Google Slides document (https://slide.new/)
> 'form.new' or 'forms.new' to create a new Google Forms form (https://form.new/)
This is also useful for creating special bookmarks in the browser!34 -
Everything in application is aligned to right
🤡 Can you alight text in that form to the left
Me: Why? All forms have text aligned to the right.
🤡: It looks better
*Add !important*
A couple weeks later, a new BUG is assigned to me by the 🤡
"This form has text aligned to the left, while all other forms have text aligned to to right"10 -
I like it when a boss is a Dev (or a former Dev). Makes them a bit more sympathetic towards us i think :)2

Went to the interview.
Filled a hell lot of forms.
Even brought some projects of mine in a usb stick.

Hello fellow ranters,
I created a poll to find out the distribution of used programming languages among us:
https://goo.gl/forms/...
I am curious, because obviously PHP is not very admired, and probably JS is the most used language around here. Lets see!
There is no information collected beside your answers. It would be awesome if you take this survey kind of seriously and do not add toooo many childish options ;)
You should have an insight into the answers after you participated. Maybe I will post some results after some time.26 -
"So you need access to the test server?"
Me:"Yes"

Fuuuuuuuck!!!! I just want to change only 3 lines of code!!!!!!5 -

A client asked me to add a mobile phone field to a registration form and asked me explicitly to use their server side validation for it.
Apparently they need a valid provider prefix, but after that everything goes. This was passed as valid mobile phone number.11 -
Just wanted to say cheers to all those coders among you who make sure their login is encrypted, their passwords are hashed and salted, their codes are tested and their forms are code injection safe.
No client will understand what you did, so take my props for it! After all, its our responsibility to make sure software is secure. That's all :) -
So some dipshit keeps entering his email wrong on forms and putting mine on instead (never met this guy).
So far I've received holiday bookings, plane tickets and payslips. I've already called his mobile and told him what I've received emails for and what he should change.
Still nothing, maybe I should just rob him blind for being so thick...11 -
I just got hired as a systems administrator at a company that develops web forms. NO ONE in the company has heard of git. They don't use any kind of version control.

I recently filled out an e-form that asked you to fill out your birthday in the format of:
DD/MM/YY
but it didn't accept 22/09/1997
I was confused at first. I'm over 18 what's the issue?
Turns out it would only accept 22/9/1997
What sort of monster does that?11 -
I was an hour deep into filling out forms on a ridiculous background check website when Windows decides to go BSOD.

I fucking hate HTML forms! Especially representing bloody nested objects within them!
Fighting with html forms has taken at least 80% of my time over the past three features. Why can't I just do this via API? It would be soo much freaking simpler! ugh.
But today.
Today is not going to be a good day.
I not only get to expand a complicated vanilla form with with one nested object today, I get to expand it to include three nested objects. Normally this wouldn't be a problem because it's just moving elements around, but two of those nested objects need to be broken up and combined into three+ segments each. I have no idea how to even approach this.
ugh.17 -

Being a developer has it's advantages: I wanted to apply for a internet subscription for my home but my home adress wasn't recognized by the provider. So i wanted to send a complain form but this was only possible by providing it with a client number, which I obviously didn't have.
So this was my solution 🎉9 -

My friend told me stories about his colleague who's always against him.
One time, during their management meeting, that colleague suggested that they should have a suggestion box in the office.
So my friend proposed that they use Google forms. He presented how Google forms work and the majority got really impressed(except the colleague).
Naturally the colleague is against him, he said "this is not what I had in mind". He wanted to have an actual box and people write suggestions on paper and drop it in(suggesting the ancient way).
Every meeting, the colleague complains a lot, and my friend provides techy and convenient solutions.7 -

My university has so many unprotected subdomains that we're supposed to use and LOGIN ON that are not protected. Although these login forms are https protected the rest is not and seems sketchy.27 -

So...Worked my butt off to have a website developed by a certain date client and I agreed on. Finished the site 3 weeks ago and sent dev link. Client has been completely silent; unreachable by email (I sent 5 in past 3 weeks) and phone (left 2 voicemails and a message with his receptionist today). In ALL five emails I told him I needed the email addresses he wants used to route his sales leads to...Got nada.
So today I seen that the lead forms have been tested on the website. Dude can't get back to me for 3 effing weeks, BUT can test his lead forms.. You know, without the lead email addresses that i asked for 5x. Ugh, idiot!!!2 -
Let's talk about input forms.
Please don't do that!
Setting time with the arrow buttons in the UI.
Each time change causes the page to re-fetch all the records. This is fetching, parsing, rendering tens of thousands of entries on every single click. And I want to set a very specific time, so there's gonna be a lot of gigs of traffic wasted for /dev/null.
Do I hear you say "just type the date manually you dumbass!"? I would indeed be a dumbass if I didn't try that. You know what? Typing the date in manually does nothing. Apparently, the handler is not triggered if I type it in manually/remove the focus/hit enter/try to jump on 1 leg/draw a blue triangle in my notebook/pray3 -

I swear upon the gods of the internet! Any time I am trying to read an article/blog post/anything and the site puts a god damn pop-up form asking me to sign up for something, I leave the site. ESPECIALLY ON MOBILE WHEN YOU CANT CLOSE THE DAMN WINDOW WITHOUT GIVING UP YOUR INFO.
And every time a client asks me to do this I nicely explain how much people hate pop-ups, 99% of the time I've closed the window or tab before I even read what the box is asking for, I don't care.
If the user is trying to read something, then they are trying to read something, and they don't want to be bothered with your ridiculous attempts for information gathering so you can spam them later.10 -

is google fucking with me today?
today i was accepted for some google summer internship program thing. they send me a google form right? so i open it up in chromium and it doesn’t work. it doesn’t let me type in any textboxes or anything. i try to fix it and no luck. then, i copy the link to firefox and voilà, it works.
so, google forms didn’t work in chromium but did in firefox? alright. then i check off yes, send me a copy of my responses to my gmail account. and guess what? gmail classified that as SPAM. google email classified a google forms email as spam.
good work google, you’re fucking stupid.7 -
One of my classmates was working on a login form, and the fucker handtyped a 100+ character email validation regex but forgot to add a check to make sure no fields were blank.
It was funny when I was able to create an account with no username, breaking his website, and even funnier when I told him html forms have a built-in email pattern5 -
Well SO blocked me from asking any more questions. Which is BS because I went back and edited my questions as I was told to.
Ohh well, I figured I would just make a new account. So I logged out. Put in a new email. Filled out all the forms confirmed my email and then I see "You cannot ask questions" WTH? Appentally it cached my browser, so when I signed back up it linked my two accounts together..
Well, looks like I'm making a new email..6 -
My partner can't wrap her head around why I write all forms of communication in a formal matter, whether it be an email, bug report or text message.
I keep telling her you never know who you are actually talking to unless your face to face, anyone else agree with this logic?5 -
I don't know if it's the craziest, but once we had an issue with a new release that caused a few forms inside the application to launch with a different scale, resulting very small on 4K monitors.
It turned out the issues were caused by importing "System.Windows" in a new module.2 -

Any alternative to Googles reCAPTCHA?
Backstory we have a contact form, in a bootstrap modal, loading the form as an ajax request. The form has (as of today) a captcha, as we where getting a lot of spam.
Guess what it does on safari? Right... It renders outside the modal and since there's no need for scrolling, bootstraps modal adds an overflow hidden to the body. Results in non submitable forms on some resolutions.
Any idea on how to fix this, or other captcha systems we could use (it's a Symfony app).4 -

God fucking damnit automating a client's "Job applicant form" system is the most boring shit l've ever done.
Get me some damn monkeys to do this
"Oh OK so I just have to take this form and turn it into HTML. Oh shit, 25 check box's, let's just copy paste this shit in over and over. Oh damn, forgot I have to change the name and value fields for each one. God damnit this is boring, I guess I have to"
Fucking hell it's annoying work, Boring, easy, no thought needed. Ended up turning this task into a drinking game. Every time the word "Management" came up, I took a shot. Got me pretty fucked up.
Client emails back; "Oh ya, I forgot to tell you, we have these 3 other forms we want you to automate".
Well fuck at this point I feel like more of an alcoholic than a developer.5 -
Client: There is currently no way for us to save forms to “the cloud” (yes they actually put the cloud in quotes)
Me: That would be because this software is installed on your onsite server infrastructure and is not cloud hosted in any way. -
Suck my hairy asshole, devs who disable paste for web forms. Or more likely, management softs who read in a trade magazine that paste is bad.1

As a web designer/developer I hate this recent trend of very light gray text fields on forms that have a white background. I don't want to have to peer at my screen for objects. My vision is average, so why would a client want this?5

Why isn't this ready for testing yet?
Could it be that despite multiple meetings emails and face to face conversations none of you have provided me with what I actually need?
Yes I can create you new email and SMS campaigns. But I need two little things first.
1 The template text.
2 The sign off forms from compliance
Without them I can't do shit. So stop chasing me on where we're at because I've been chasing you on this for two weeks.

A form for an order checkout has a fucking stupid select box for comments... Options like "knock loudly" or "Ring doorbell"... 🤔
My wife had no way to put in a comment to say it needed to go to level 2! So I took over, inspected the element to make sure it wasn't using ID values for these stupid values, then replaced it with a text area with the same control ID, name and class.
Problem solved, felt like such a ninja 😉5 -

We can hide messages in images via steganography (or ZIP sewing), we can hide messages in sound via either sound-based transmission (like Morse) or waveform-based transmission (think oscilloscope art videos), we can transmit it in videos in like 300 different fucking combined forms...

Just learnt perfectly what the below joke means:
'I wanted to improve the world, but they wouldn't give me the source code'
I really don't understand why the world is full of obsolete processes that people fight against daily when changing things ever so slightly could take the weight of the world off their shoulders. The same thing goes for my work, I work in finance, and we use a remote app built in Windows forms (not xaml or wpf, the original forms) and it's insecure, slow, buggy, and crashes whenever you press ESC (yes, really). Even worse, I've offered to rewrite their whole network for nothing, just the improvement to people's lives. And they say no! WELL FUCK YOU FOR BEING A PLAGUE ON THE FUCKING WORLD! Why do people insist on staying behind the times when the world could be such a beautiful place?!?3 -
I hate HTML forms. Fucking hate them.
They're semantic so folk use them to group related inputs.
But they're also functional if you're not just typing something in and pushing enter to send it to a server, you have to override every. fucking. event.
Semantic _or_ functional is fine, but for the love of all that is holy, not both. I hate this.14 -
Front-end hacking is pure dog shite.
Some banana fuckers changed a forms plugin for PukePress some odd years ago and now I am responsible, after installing 2 major releases, to make it behave and look the same as it did before.
I'd rather dangle in a noose than cleaning up their spaghettified CSS selectors and random jokeQuery code.4 -
I really hate sales people. My stakeholder wants to buy an address verification service but is hesitant to purchase now because the dev time needed would be substantial. Now the sales rep has planted seeds of doubt in my SH and SH thinks I grossly overestimated the labor I quoted.
Sales rep is all “major corporations have installed this in a weekend.” 🤬🤬🤬 Major corporations also have more than one developer and probably aren’t dealing with a website that has a dozen address forms that all work differently. Oh, and I DON’T WORK WEEKENDS MOFO.
My SH originally requested a labor estimate for installing the AVS on all address forms and that’s what I delivered. My audit revealed a dozen different forms. I’m working with a legacy code base that’s been bandaged together and maintained by an outside dev agency. The only thing the forms have in common is reusable address fields. They all work differently when it comes to validating and submitting data to the server and they all submit to different api endpoints. At least a quarter of those forms are broken and would need to be fixed (these are mostly admin-facing). I also had to provide an estimate on frontend implementation when I have no idea what they want the FE to look like.
My estimate was 5-8 weeks for implementation AND testing. I wrote up my findings and clearly explained the labor required, why it was needed, and the time needed. All was fine until the sales rep tried to get into SH’s head.
My SH is now asking for a new estimate and hoping for 1-2 weeks of labor, which is what will SH to buy the AVS. Then go to the outside dev agency you used to work with and ask for a second opinion. I’m sure they’d also tell you at least month if not more for testing, implementation, and deployment because you have a DOZEN FORMS you want to add this to. 1-2 weeks is only possible for a single form.
My manager doesn’t work in the same coding language I do, but he read my documentation and supports my original estimate.
I honestly want to ask my SH if this sales rep is giving a very good price for the AVS. If not, are there other companies in the mix? Because right now you have a sales rep that’s taking you for a ride and trying to pressure you all so he can get another notch in his belt for getting another “major corporation” as his account. I don’t think it’s a good idea to be locked in with a grimy sales rep.3 -
Seems like the poisoning of the internet is coming to a head. While searching earlier for a first principles reference to answer a question with, I came across an entirely obfuscated query.
"Codd's forms of normalization"
https://google.com/search/...
In the first four pages, there are 5 results that aren't ad farms, crappy pasta tutorial sites, brand building articles, poorly understood rote regurgitation of information, quora, or some combination of all of the above.
In 2005, the top 5 would likely have contained Bell Labs, UoI, Cambridge and Oracle. Mind you, I don't think the world is getting dumber, exactly, just that the signal to noise ratio in the information sphere is getting worse and the risk from that is the world becomes markedly "dumber". The only barrier to entry anymore is how well your SEO optimization competes.
I'm obviously getting old.

Got a promotion at the end of April this year from Junior Dev to React Engineer, and HR STILL hasn't amended my contract... At this point I'm owed 2 months of backpay... Why is it so hard for HR in any business to just change a field, sign some forms and bung it off?7

Have to find a memory leak in a huge, legacy JS application that builds, renders and handles (most) of the basic logic for completing forms - that only works when compiled into a minified js and put in another application that builds into a phonegap based app.
Did I mention everything is bound to a G(lobal) namespace and the ViewModel/Controllers etc. all use JQuery and "this" references and .bind() everywhere?
Deadline of fix: end of today/early tomorrow.7 -

I actually found a use for Outlook's scummy default behaviour to open links in Edge and not the default browser.
On my company laptop I mainly use Librewolf because it allows installing plug-ins despite group policy. I only use Edge for Azure DevOps and company portals because MS SSO doesn't work with Librewolf for some reason.
Because Outlook disregards the OS settings and uses Edge by default, MS software forms a sort of bubble, and I can freely set Librewolf as my default browser.9 -
Worked on project that has multiple forms. After deployment colleague asks me if I made the Chrome in-build autofill form function. He really liked and loved the option. Colleague calls himself front-end developer. True story!1

It's like everytime you tell your PM that you need to be left alone to code their projects, it goes in one ear and out the other. I usually ignore them when busy coding, but then they start to blow you up on all forms of communication. Where are you? Why aren't you answering me? It's because I am coding away on all of your projects. If we sit here for hours talking, nothing would get done! Like was it necessary to message and call me on several forms of communication??

Ok so I'm taking a developer survey, and since this is the best community of devs I know I'm taking it here first. This is for research purposes attempting to draw parallels between thing such as favorite language and favorite editor, tabs vs spaces and years of development experience, etc.
If you would be so kind as to help me out I will post my findings here once I've collected enough data. Anyone that inputs a valid email address will also be kept in the loop.
Thanks! Here's the link!

I have an idea and I want some feedback.
I'm the only web developer and I've been updating our systems so they can be maintainable. Previously we have used Wordpress for landing pages which is complete overkill So here's the idea:
Static sites for landing pages and any forms that would need to filled out would be on a separate site.
Ok so here me out. First the landing pages barely need any maintenance so using pure HTML/CSS/JS wouldn't be a problem. This means I can strip away all of the crap from Wordpress and make the load times faster. Second all of the landing pages forms would be hosted in a single place making analytics easier for the reporting system.
Really I just despise Wordpress and am trying any practical reason to not use it as much as possible. Oh and don't worry I'll use preprocessors and minify the production files.7 -
When your company forces you to program forms on the webpage with the sole intention of capturing your data then blasting you with emails, phone calls, and texts :( sometimes I really do hate my job2
-
So in my current workplace we have an IT department of... 7-8 people, with 3 developers (or 2.5, but that's debatable)
The oldest dev is old school, over 65 now came from Visual Basic, of course, and is a father of department's director - this is a story in of itself, but besides the point of this rant
Anywho, this dev is of course in this workplace way longer than me, and historically is in charge of finance and Microsoft CRM systems.
Guess the reason why Microsoft CRM was chosen at all in the company?
Because dev said he is not good with creating web forms from scratch, and apparently with MSCRM you can craft them without much trouble.
Yes, that's it, our MSCRM is used as a web application with custom forms that store data into custom DB tables that dev creates... nothing to do with actual CRM use cases.3 -
I've been writing various forms of OOP for three years and just now learned exactly what static means

I remember I couldn't compile a clean Xamarin Forms project on Visual Studio because of a System.TimeZoneInfoNotFoundException. The workaround?, changed my time zone to Central time USA-Canada. So apparently it is not allowed to use Xamarin in the third world...1

So I got the examn project, which is nice. But then I saw the line in the picture:
"The programming language has to be C# using Windows Forms in MS Visual Studio"
I've added an emoji that expresses how I feel about it. Or in other words, SEND HELP.2 -
xamarin forms sucks..
Everytime I want some widget or something even simple, they tell me to use custom renderers (write it natively on each platform)..
so, how is that supposed to be cross-platform..
after all, like I always said, to use xamarin efficiently, you must have good knowledge on native development for each platform10 -
when you build the whole landing page, forms, php mail sender, SMTP, marketing integrations, analytics and all of that from scratch, and 1 hour before it goes live your boss tells you to change some inputs on the form.2

Father of my IT director. He was good with VB6. Now he is abusing MS Dynamics by using it to just host custom html forms and his DB main working table (which just mimics the fields of the CRM entity he has created is edging on 300 fields. He reuses same entity for 10 different non related "applications" (custom html forms... just CRUD) so majority of rows in that table use up to 30 fields...2

upgrade to the latest pre-release of Xamarin forms for a shiny new feature, now nothing works even after reverting. You'd think I should know better by now.2
-
Our favorite ticket system blokes are back with a big fat update for their software.
What changed?
All workflows are fucked because everything is somewhere else suddenly!
Half of the features suddenly stopped working!
Variable formats in forms have been changed from {} to [] without reason, migration or warning! Sorry, {Username} ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Half-assed features that don't work half of the time have also been added!
Fucking great!
Who beta tests this shit? Nobody?2 -
I need to stop treating an OO language as if it were a procedural language.
I have the tendency to turn my code into GOTO spaghetti even though I'm semi-aware that objects exist and that they are distinct.
I still have to get used to this paradigm.
My Java professor always swore by the Plato paradigm, i.e.:
""Platonism" and its theory of Forms (or theory of Ideas) denies the reality of the material world, considering it only an image or copy of the real world.
According to this theory of Forms there are at least two worlds: the apparent world of concrete objects, grasped by the senses, which constantly changes, and an unchanging and unseen world of Forms or abstract objects, grasped by pure reason (λογική). which ground what is apparent." (wikipedia)
Thinking in objects, abstractions and metaphysics is not something I haven't done before (I've practiced it during Sociology and Ethics with the whole Pascal Leibniz, Newton and DesCartes approach) but it's certainly not easy.
Then there was my cool Programming 201 professor who said: "Don't worry man, just read those great UML, Program Design and GOF books and it will all become easy, like a story. It'll all make sense.
I mean, I've graduated, I've passed my Software Engineering I, II and III (hard as hell) but since I haven't focused on those theories and practices anymore, I've lost my touch.
It's definitely not easy for a novice programmer to transition between paradigms..10 -
Damn you Oracle forms! And OVM manager, you can go to hell as well. And take everything else connected with Oracle with you please

What happens to a fart?
Does it disappear?
Well my science background says it cannot disappear. So what happens to the fart?
My theory is that the air cools and can no longer suspend the butt particles in the air. So all the particles fall to the ground. On the ground this forms a layer of butt dust.
So remember when you walk around the house without shoes on. There is butt dust sticking to your feet.10 -
Managers, the more time you require of devs to fill out forms and such, the less time they have to devote to the tasks they're assigned.. please keep this in mind.3

3.5 fucking hours wasted. Trying to get a fucking webform to post using smtp and swiftmailer. Fucking webforms, I fucking hate them. Done it now though.

The moment I realized im an actual dev:
I used to always copy/paste embed codes and not think of how they work. Embedded iframes, embedded video, embedded appointment forms.
One day, I'm given an embed link and I freakin knew what everything meant. I knew the HTML, I understood what the JS call was, and I saw how it communicated back to its site. It was super exciting to finally understand what I was copying/pasting... Like I finally opened my eyes and saw the real world.1 -
Fun fact: If you ever want to see the password you are typing or view the contents of a password field in a form, just pull up the web inspector. You can change the input type from "password" to "text" with no ill effects upon submission.
The lesson? When populating password fields, put junk values in there instead. Will present the right appearance, and doesn't risk exposing something that should be stored as a salted hash anyway.3 -
Best: i learned a lot this year, cant really highlight anything but i got better at networking stuff, im happy about that
Worst: using xamarin forms probably, it was a literal hellhole and midway through the project microsoft abandoned winphone so there was absolutely no reason to keep using that shit -
I fucking hate asp.net web forms. Today we implemented listboxes, so we expected them to just be a wrapper for HTML listboxes. NOPE! They are simply selects. Why they decided to hijack the name and do this, I don't know. That does explain why they don't have multiple columns like true listboxes.
So glad that for the next project, which we should start by the end of May, we'll be moving to MVC and .Net core. This shit is so stupid!3 -
So, this week I started working on my first mobile app with Xamarin Forms. I already have a login and register functionality. The mobile app is connected to an Laravel API and SQL database. Happy with the progress so far.
I am new to C# so I had some struggles, but after some days I began to really like it.9 -
There are 2 kinds of websites:
1 - The bad kind where not accepting their cookies boots you off the site (And so are in breach of GDPR... IIRC)
2 - Sites that continue working, albeit in a degraded / suboptimal state, even when you refuse their cookies.
I wish more sites were of the second variety. I'm even the only person among my friends who actually bothers going through the consent forms and disallowing everything marketing-related.
OneTrust is good. It at least remembers my preferences.6 -
Building CMS for one of our client on demand. Young client seemed to be pretty upset, when we told him, that all the functionality including all the forms had to be build from scratch. He told us, he thought it is there in the computer "by nature" and does not need to be programmed.
-
No offense to anyone who uses it, but I can't stand ASP.net web forms. It just feels so wrong. Then to add the unexplainable behaviour that fixes it's self after creating a new file and pasting in the previous contents without changes.

No one is born evil. Evil only ever forms in people as an answer to evil done to them.
Those who never face any evil are the luckiest. Those who develop evil but later find the strength to retire it are the strongest. Those who face evil but never respond with evil are saints. Those who do respond with evil are on their way to finding their inner strength.7 -
I love how our industry has invented such important sounding yet meaningless job titles...
Developer, software engineer, software architect, developer evangelist, dev ops engineer, systems analyst, quality assurance engineer, code monkey...4 -

I'm considering going to Linux for my main operating system since windows 10 is bugging the heck out of me. Although, my main IDE is visual studio 2015. What IDEs are out there for .NET development in Linux and what are their pitfalls compared to VS 2015, if any? Are you still able to create all the things in that as in VS? I'm usually working in MVC and ADP.net forms and maybe the occasional console app in C#.3

I want a robot that can do just one thing, just so I can say fuck you to these forms.

Start my Monday by trying to decipher non-tech people's "bug" reports whee they submit a small portion of a web page where some problem occurs, when I asked them to include the ENTIRE browser window including the URL of the page they're on.
Business Analyst says most of the forms aren't working, because they're not creating leads in the CRM system. I made a column in the form list where I explicitly mention the form submission destination, such as email, CRM, newsletter, or some combo of these. Forms work, she just can't read.
Just can't win.3 -
School stuff. Teachers have loads of pdfs and they're just giving them to us on Google Classrooms to do in our books. Maybe a tool to transform those into proper forms + marking.

I just can't stand that dumb senior. Everytime one tries to change the size of the window, all the data from the quite lengthy form is lost. Ofc he will not fix that. How is that even possible? Wtf?
I would not give a damn if I did not have to fill these forms.4 -
Am I stupid? Do you know how many hours I've spent filling in forms for tests?
Why did I never think of using a random auto fill extension before now?
And bam, productivity increases dramatically3 -

I am so tired and frustrated, after every work day. It's like I'm trading bug for bug.7 -
When windows forms required me to dispose of a certain control derivative manually using a .dispose() call because dynamic control creation was causing a memory leak in dotnet, which instead of fixing, microsoft documented, vaguely.3

They told me Xamarin Forms could create an app for many platforms
They didn't tell me that the Forms extensions for APIs would not work at all with the Android extensions, iOS extensions and I would need to reinstall them for each platform
They didn't tell me that at the end, I have to write individual code for each platform.
I was promised an all-in-one toolkit. I'm just writing code for Android and iOS apps, PLUS forms
I can't even find a reliable PDF generator for this. Documentations are outdated and don't work, either that, for it takes a million steps to generate a PDF file2 -
I wonder, are captchas in captcha solving service sign-up forms - connected to the service? so you're for free solving a captcha inside the pool?1

I had a complaint about a product I bought from a store a while back. I was resistant to taking into the store because the people there make you feel like you are stealing when trying to return a defective DVD. So I contacted the store via their website. I put in my first and last name and my email in the message to them. This is an excerpt of what I got back:
---
Response By Email (Triston) (12/12/2019 03:56 AM)
Hi Phuckin,
Your satisfaction is our top priority and your comments have been forwarded to your local Store. The management team there will take appropriate action and you can expect a response from them within three business days.
<store specific info>
Customer By (Phuckin Chit) (12/11/2019 03:40 PM)
<details of my complaint, etc>
---
Apparently I had created an account with this store a while back when I was angry. Hence my name being reported as Phuckin Chit. Even though I entered my name in the form it used the stored name associated with my email. At this point I am not sure they are going to help me.1 -
For credential errors on login forms..
Do you guys follow the “OWASP standard” and won’t let the user know which field (email or password) was incorrect, just a general message or the more UX-way and let them know that it is for example the password that doesn’t match with given email (if it exists)? 🤔
Had a minor “discussion” about this with our sales-guy this afternoon why that I’m (as the full-stack, and only, developer there) not that of a fan about the UX-way.. (even thou ‘security’ is a “myth”). 😁9 -
algolia.com is a piece of fucking shit, trying to use the search on the reasonml forms just pisses me off and makes me want to punch a baby in the face!!!4

So I spent 2 hours trying to debug my HTML form with data pulled from database. I kept updating the data in the database but the forms weren't changing. Then it finally struck me, Firefox fucking caches form fields on page reload. I use to think this was a convinient feature but now it's just a pain in the ass.1

Anyone else here who needs to deal with GDPR on the software level? I'll go nuts until we're compliant in every aspect.
I've been developing a consent library for the last few days. It even automatically links expressions of explicit consent to current screenshots of the relevant forms (because you need to do that too), and past records are immutable. Well, unless the whole database gets fucked somehow, then it's not.3 -
Working for a large client converting paper forms to the web. Stated goals, simplify data entry for clients, improve data quality, reduce resourcing in backend human processing.
We met to review prototype and discuss workflow questions. Crazy deadlines, with the usual changing scope creep.
We start to point out the need for data validation, to shorten # of questions based on answers.
Business says no. All forms should be submittable regardless of what user enters, don’t put validations in because all that warning messaging confuses them and takes up more time.
Web form should behave like the paper copy....
Welcome to 1975!!! This is why 2018 won’t be like 2018...1 -
I developed a simple feedback form, that captures user feedback and forwards it to a customer care email.
Today, I received a call from someone who was sub-contracted to create a system that would ingest these feedback emails and process the data to have some desired result.
So dude wants me to change the way the email is formatted. Because there are "line feeds" in the email. Essential making it computer readable as opposed to human readable. I don't have a problem doing that but I'm wondering if he ever heard of regular expressions.3 -
FML!!!!!! I FUCKING HATE THE COMBINATION OF XAMARIN FORMS AND MY COWORKERS.
Explanation:
I had to refactor all of our views because my coworkers did anything in the code-behind file from the views but the code should be in the viewmodels.
I had an "Unhandlex Exception" without any stacktrace or error message for a hour. What was the error? In the xaml file of the view was still an OnClicked-handler of a button but i removed the method from the view-code-behind-file.

What is a life form?
How exactly a life started on earth? Was it brought from outer space?
Are there any life forms there out of earth?
Can a life form be based not on protein but on some other chemicals?
How exactly the very first life form of the universe was created?
Can digital things be life forms?
Can ideas and concepts be life forms? Can they exists without a medium? If so, where exactly are they stored?
Can we create living things?
Those questions are keeping me up at night16 -
How to get a developers attention?
Simple, just leave a negative review on one of his apps. This will surely motivate the fellow to help you out. Contact forms are for the weak.1 -
My colleague had some problems today.
He had problems from both user input and predefined strings sent with ajax to backend. The "&"-sign was splitting values in GET-requests into unintended parameters. So... he was simply going to search and replace all of those signs with the word "and"...
encodeURI()? Why are you sending our forms with GET-requests?! 🙃 -
Finishing up the last few edits on the WordPress site from hell, client is here to see the finished product, senior dev looks over at me "so are the registration/login forms and sign out button working correctly again?"
Me: "yeah I'm just checking one thing first-SON OF A BITCH"
senior: "that does not instill confidence that the forms are working"
Wasn't a big deal, forgot to close a div and, well you know how that works -
At my first programming job, the codebase was a tangle of legacy web forms, MVC, templates in a content-management-system, and AngularJS. Learning the CMS was particularly stressful.
One Saturday night, after binge-watching videos of DOOM 2 speedruns and mods, I had a dream that the Icon of Sin from DOOM 2 appeared in the code, gazed at me menacingly, and lunged at me before I woke up.1 -
So I'm pretty new to PHP after coming off 5 years worth of Java. So far I've used nothing but standard, out-of-the-box code. Anyone got any recommendations for frameworks or nice tools I could look at? I'd especially like something that could make forms and database interactions easier (my software is a lot of data capturing and reporting)12
-
If you somehow, someway, for any reason didn’t know it, emails are valid action attributes for HTML forms.
Yes.
You can submit forms to emails, and it works for ages now. Backend isn’t needed.6 -
Hopefully get out to the public the two projects I have been working on currently. A local focused startup help website and a local focused fillable forms platform.
And hopefully get my first large scale software project kickstarted - A retail management system on a full Feedback Driven Development approach perhaps with the ability to integrate AI and ML later on. -
I wrote a stored procedure and declared the input as varchar instead of varchar(100). everything seemed to be working. later on we noticed that the procedure only saved the first character of the input (a user form). unfortunately we found out first when the monthly form reports where issued. a whole month of incomplete forms from our users. the client wasn't happy.2

As a developer you're expected to perform all sorts of tasks that don't necessarily involve any coding or development at all. "A web form in Drupal? Uhm, it's got something to do with the web, right? Yeah, let's dump it on 'IT'."
So now I've been given this most frustrating task to use some form engine in Drupal. I have no access to the PHP code itself, and I don't even know what this form engine is called. All I know it's the crappiest of crap. The more I use it the more I hate it. -
The more I work on the backend forms validation side of my .NET Core project the more I understand how to fuck up web forms in general... 😈
Never underestimate the necessity of a backend validation other then the frontend one. 👿4 -
What the actual fuck is wrong with companies that have websites with useless buttons. And i mean useless like a "Click here for our api documentation" which takes you to a contact form that you fill out and wait 3 days for someone to email you a link to a publicly accessable webpage on the same fucking website, a link that is just an extra tier on the contact forms link 😠 or they make their website a motherfucking labyrinth just to find the api documentation or a phone number to contact them.

Hey DevRant Fam ❤️ hope you are all doing very well!, for awhile now i have been focusing on c# and I certainly do enjoy it! Though since I’m still in uni.. we have only been building forms which as far as i am aware is not used anymore..
So my devRant fam, I’d love to be learning more of the modern things and also building more modern forms using c#, I’m very curious to hear what advice you have for me, I’m very much happy to learn anything & I’m open to all of your opinions!.
Again thank you for reading my lengthy rant, I appreciate it highly!
Hope you have an amazing day/night wherever you are!

10 minutes and it was done -.-

What is something people keep saying to you about being a dev that really annoys you?
Mine is that all forms of pixel art must be for Minecraft (Really really really irritating!) -
Back when I was at uni, we had this group project based on data security.

Form plugin for WordPress on a seriously out of date install won't update until I update WordPress core. Fine, I update core and update the plugin and test the forms again. Form still isn't sending emails on submission. Look into forms settings. Oh look error messages, awesome!
Message: "There are 2 configuration errors"
OK, what are the errors where are the errors?
"There are two configuration errors."
Gee that's really fucking helpful, why even tell me you can see the errors if you aren't going to fucking tell me where the blasted things are. Spend 4 fucking hours trying to figure this out, checking "docs" wiki, support forums, nothing.
Finally decided to just trash the client's form plugin they were using and installed my reliable Gravity Forms.
P.S. if you are going to write code to find errors, and tell me about them, then you had better fucking tell me what the goddamned error is. There is no need to waste a developer's time trying to debug your shitty plugin because you couldn't be bothered to write a useful error handler. -
Dear humans that identify as Frontend Web Devs,
I get that you aren't adept at the logic aspects of dev, but I would greatly appreciate if you tried to better your simple, common sense logic... or at least have someone do basic QA.
Sincerely,

You know while people debated race gender immigration abortion social welfare marijuana etc etc and riotes ruined lives and made people dead and or unemployed and homeless we could have focused on what mattered and reduced so much suffering in this country by embracing a few ideas that are somewhat new and eradicate everything from destitution and suspended momentum but also things like excuses for varying forms of physical and psychological child abuse
It sickens me7 -
Creating my first mobile application in Xamarin Forms. Still figuring out how that framework works, but I'm excited!
Application is for my internship. Helping students study better with metacognitive strategies.
I don't even know what it is, so this is going to be fun. -
Was working in an n-tier website, standard Web forms, BAL, DAL, database architecture. Validation and processing of data done in the BAL. Not the best idea, but whatever. Well apparently some developer thought it was too much work to pass his data through the BAL, so he directly accessed the DAL, performing zero validation on the data being passed in. Luckily, this was in a non-critical part of the site but the PM at the time nearly had a heart attack when I told him.

All i wanted was a toolbaritem which i can hide depending on a propery in my viewmodel (xamarin forms). that shithead does not have a damn IsVisible property so i had to make some custom shit for this. Result is that my page does not load anymore. no fucking error visible in output window.
could not resolve a bug in time as i have to pick up my girlfriend and do some social shit.
now i am on the road. all i can think of is getting back to my pc and fix this. -
My dad showed me vb.net when I was 13 or something and just went ahead to try to make different types of games with Windows forms, it was a lot of fun even if the games were garbage(I had a gazillion buttons on one because I couldn't figure out how to make the logic reusable with the hp bar); it is what put me on the programmer/engineering path1

So I'm a fullstack Python Dev & I wanted to learn Django Rest Framework so I can ease into making PWA. I figured let me learn it as I build out an MVP for a web app I'm creating...WRONG! This shit is mega annoying! It's taken much much more time than i'd like just to set up User sign up and sign in using a form based on the serializers. I started this project Friday....I still have no forms 😭😭...If i just had used Regular Django Models/Forms, an Ajax call here and there i wouldve been done!! What makes it worse is I feel I'm legit the only person having these issues...sheesh4

Been coding for over 5 years and today I'm going into a college exam about simple GUI with Windows Forms and simple class structures.. This will be so hard

So at work we use ASP.NET web forms. Since the .NET Core exists now, and that uses ASP.NET MVC, is it worth looking into that and learning about it? My boss is hesitant to move over for our next project because web forms will go faster because we don't have to learn something new.6

learned about antd on Reddit when it had version 4.0.1 released and so far rewriting from scratch the frontend of one of my products has been a breeze, specially since I'm using Typescript.
I'm absolutely happy with the results so far, and how forms are managed within the library makes Formik redundant, great!
having React Cosmos is helping a lot when designing my components too.
In general, I'm really happy! -
Building a site in Foundation 6, and there's a form where users may need to add new possible entries to a pool of valid choices, so I've got a second form that loads in a modal below the main form.
The second form loads fine, but when I try to use AJAX to submit the form and process things without leaving the page, Foundation stops working.
jQuery(document).ready() breaks it.
Just doing jQuery('form.ajax_form').ajax() without the .ready() wrapper breaks it, too.
Going to just wall it off as a beta feature for now, but if anyone has any idea why it isn't working, I'm all ears. -
How much of an asshole you have to be to say the poster doesn't know PHP and bitch about "security problems" in an answer to a clearly newbie question about forms and redirection on Quora?2

We should find a way to replace passwords: any password manager which I tried is inaccurate in identifying login forms and is too hard to use for non technical people older than 40 and convince people to not use some stupid name + birth year combination as their passwords is a frustrating uphill battle.13

EPiServer Forms is probably the worst fucking thing to ever exist in terms of Nuget packages. I would rather shove an entire daikon radish up my asshole than trying to debug the stupid fucking mystery that code is. Wanna tie into the JavaScript events to handle payment validation? Had a legacy web forms app to maintain. With some generic event handler. There is a variable called "aDirtyHack" inside the query resolver for the grid. It adds a extra column for one customer.

How do you guys work with forms on backend? Do you have framework in your language or do you work with raw body, parsing and validating everything with your own tools?7

FUCK. YOU. WINDOWS. FORMS.
This fucking old ass piece of shit with zero features and broken core fucking functionality, why the fuck does it have to BREAK THE WHOLE FUCKING UI DESIGNER UI whenever i rebuild the fucking project, WITHOUT AN OPTION TO RESTORE IT OR EVEN PRESS ALT+Z. WHY did this fucking piece of shit ever come to existence, it's not relevant anymore for the last 50 years or when was that crap born.
I'm tired of this fucking shit. TIRED OF IT. Oh my god if I could just write the ui in html and css. BUT I CAN'T, instead I'm stuck with this fucking clusterfuck fucking fuck someone send help sdsdfmoksfd2 -
Applied to 4 companies last weekend. One of them didnt even have proper working contact forms (they all gave somekind of 503 error).
I even took the effort to just mail them my resumé, do i receive an answer that they are looking for someone with React experience.
I looked over the function a second time, no mention of React anywhere.
To whoever is working over there or ever going to work over there; i already feel sorry for you. -
That one client wanted to hire me and a friend for a small 2 month C# school project basically reformatting and redistributing incoming forms. In the last meeting before we were supposed to start the project he told us that it was supposed to be a sharepoint thingy.
We declined as we never worked with sharepoint, not to mention the Clients indecisiveness regarding what he wanted.
The ridiculous part was really that a lot had already been set in stone and we had to find another contract in 3 days time. -
Maybe one of you can help me, since I can't find something online.
I want to do a transfer.sh-like app in Go. So you can upload a file with curl, it gets stored there for some time and you can download it later.
The problem is, I only found tutorials for uploading files over html-forms, not over curl.
Does any of you know, how to write a handle-function, that accepts something Like
"Curl --upload-file SUPERIMPORTANT localhost:9999/upload"1 -

I am reading third book
“The Cult of Fog Island” and now I am 100% sure that shitting on employees and micromanagement are forms of cult and sect.
People who do it are narcissistic dumb fucks just wanting to lick CEO or their own ass and get prize for what they didn’t do.
Well fuck them I hope they burn in hell. -
so what do think ? - i built an entire app with html pages.
With client side - angularjs and
server side - .net webapis working with sql db. The app has over 100 forms and works crazy fast in html form compared to the same form in an aspx. Should I leave it this way or do you guys see any problems with it. All forms are post and https enabled site. Open to constructive criticism and don't be a dick4 -
I’m annoyed that a lot of people don’t understand that code is art, and don’t value it as such. While many programmers do dabble in more traditional art forms, they don’t see program as *an art form*. Programmers need to actually see this. Stop devaluing programming by using LLMs and the such.

If you opt out all forms of media for a year then talk to a hardcore facebook user; The dichotomy is extreme.4

Why is it that most people that reply to feedback/support forms of just about any web site in general are complete dimwits? If they are people, that is. In that case, congratulations! You've just passed the inverted Turing test!2

Ok, @jestdotty , today, i give up on china.
I've been messaging with a rep who is taking the time to keep editing a contract... Im pretty sure she was genuinely trying...
As typing this we finally got to a 'correct enough' contract... so I could click the damn pay button.
Over the past 7 hrs.. at 3 back and forth exchabges and modifications at each issue:
1. Used previous PI from the dude i gave up on... so had a qty at 12 when only 11 exist a colour wrong for a crate of items, and listed the dude i refused to sign a contract under listed as the rep.
2. Now the item subtotals were off... just a few pennies or so... assumed she left the usd prices but calculated with ¥... didn't want alibaba to reject in a day so i checked if it was noted anywhere... Oh boy was it... VERY clearly, all caps, bold in the body of the total row... that the total was, exactly, 11680 (spelled out ofc) RMB aka ¥ chinese yen. I told her this, she sends me a cropped shot of the $ numeric total field... so i sent her the giant all caps bolded line, the one thatd typically be considered final say in most international courts... no clue where that value came from, it had zero relation to any actual values... and i was as curious as when chatGPT creates totally new, unique, lyrics for satirical german songs... i really tried.
3. Wrong incoterms (trade terms... abbreviated to a few letters... had it that I'd be physically going to the tbd port to accept/clear customs... no)
4. Technically it was accurate (well a few strange subtotals since she used ¥ half the time... told her it was fine as long as it had the company name on the label (gave 3 full examples to use whichever)
I get the contract ...shipping...
"To: Sara"
Then the right address (seriously wtf)
5. I point this out and carefully explain in mostly just examples and "the us government doesn't like anything being sent to just a first name, there's no legal way to sign for acceptance"
6. She gets stressed enough to tell me she doesn't have time to keep editing (since this horrid pile of poor formatting was just thrown at her a day ago... i dont point out the ridiculous irony)
7. Imo, the highlight of my night/morning... in her stress she promises me it'll ship right... sooo many issues there...
Even if it was delivered/allowed a signature for "sara" for 7ish large boxes just off a sea freight from china to a residence in the middle of a corn field (which tbh would be hysterical)...the IRS would have a valid reason to audit me... theyve done it w/o valid reasons several times, since I was 18 doing international trade and a contractual employee of a large gambling company, quarterly reporting, and ofc declaring more than my taxes in donating melted glass and crane game prizes...yea, they hate me and always do all that work to find the same thing... i underdeclare charity by 10%.
The entire concept of getting USA mail, even when pristine and you know logistics agents in every major company and port or distribution center, to properly deliver anything... ROFLOL ... and im already on some 'open and check everything' list with customs for a hysterical misconception they made years ago... cant/shouldn't get into detail publicly... but it was caused because 2 packages from different cities in China were both going to my address/through customs at the same time... package 1, 75 of those cheap af ball-pit hollow plastic balls for a 2yr old's bday(very delayed) package 2. 75 rechargeable batteries (the kind in power banks) 9600mah.
8. Told her to change "sara" to company name... glad it's registered to this address still.
It took me under 5min to type this... had to get the WTF out.
Dear AliBaba, please give an option to allow buyers to create the supply side contract for review, not just req modification... please?2 -
Recently I had a task from my university to build some DB with forms using MS Access.
Despite of me constantly thinking that I wold accomplish this using Python+SQLite+Some GUI much faster, I've completed.
And I've got only one question left: why the hell proprietary product with giant company behind has such a terrible UX?
It' really painful to use. -
Does anyone else it fucking ironic that Jira is the go to tool for "agile" development? The amount of bloat, buttons, etc all make non-agile the task of filling out all the stupid forms and assigning all these shitty irrelevant details makes it a turn off.1

On the contact page of my project, I want to send data from a HTML form.
What would you use to send it?
Just the regular <form action="/path/to/handler"> and cause a page refresh or use javascript (jQuery) for it and not cause a page refresh?
In both cases, a message will be shown on success or failure.7 -

Several months ago I was praising antd's forms but honestly I can't figure how to debug them with React Context Devtools, let alone do that inside React Storybook.
Unless I come up with a solution for this problem I'm a dead man.4 -
Man I love django so far, but django.forms module is such a pain in the ass sometimes, why can't you be more intuitive? I think I'm gonna make my forms in HTML this time and process data with a function based view1

Bad : developing in xamarin forms in Android .
Worse : porting said xamarin forms app to ios. -

What language and toolset to write desktop apps in if not win forms and c# because sure as. Fuck wont be wpf or std win32 with c10 -
I just finished a test task which was almost a whole project...
actually just 2 forms but some of the requirements were such that if I don't implement user registration and login and what not I can't make it to work the desired way... plus there was some point where I need to inform the user that he is giving too much money... and yeah, do they want it to have integrated payments too?
the time limit was 2 hours... and I'm new to their framework, so I did the 2 forms and the listing of the 1st db rows as wanted below one of the forms and sent them the result asking for clarifications and more time
do you get such test tasks ( I mean with a lot of things for that short amount of time )?3 -

I used to hate the tediousness of "busy work" e.g. changing labels in forms or running unit test procedures. But damn does it make the day go by quicker. I missed having something (anything) to do.

What’s more annoying than being distracted from your actual work by colleagues to make a couple of HTTP calls which can be done by them in minutes since they have everything but requires you to switch context and waste almost an hour in retrieving credentials reading documentation and filling Postman forms?

Okay so I was given a task to add an additional column to the reports in our timesheet system a couple of days ago.
This system hasn't been modified in several years and was not written especially well.
The report generated is shown in a Windows forms datagrid.
I spent 2 fucking hours trying to figure out how data was getting added to this shitting thing when I realised that it was being done by shitting index on the SELECT statement.
God, why didn't the original Witter just use a bloody databinding -
I'm creating a game for my final major project a college. Doing some primary research would be greatly appreciated if you can fill this survey out. Share around if possible. Thanks

I am accessing the development server via remote desktop, currently maintaining a win forms app on visual studio. there is that one form which when a break point is hit the whole screen freeze and doesn't respond until you minimize the remote desktop and maximize back. just in this form, not the others. it's reproducable.
it's a gem if you ask me, I show it to everyone I know. -
Halloween is like The Purge but for spiritual energy instead of criminal intentions
also interesting that no nut November comes after. a lot of sects of thought view sexual energy as the basis for all other forms of energy
and then Christmas is about pacifying and making people into fools that pretend they're happy and ignore their problems and to make them avoid any targets of willpower or meaning they may possibly encounter. which is actually really fucked up because Christ was a huge rebel in actuality -
Hi guys ,

Spring roo by a country fucking mile, it tries to do too much magic under the bonnet, it creates files which if you modify it gg from me and gg from him (two Ronnie's), if you generate html forms with it takes less than half a beer to either SQL inject or xss it and worst of all it has one of those names that no-one can take seriously.
My advice avoid it like the syphilitic donkey it is. -

Recently in our school our final year class choice forms are starting to be handed out. 5 lists, you pick one subject from each.
Now, I really wanted Advanced higher computing, to the point where I nearly begged on the survey choice forms. There's two of us that really want it. What happens? IT'S NOT ON THE FINAL FORM.
The only two subjects I could get was engineering and maths. Three of my other lists are completely to say politely, fucking shite. -
Hello all, recently I have been doing alot of front end work in web forms and lead generation. I would love to learn more about marketing and how it can be applied as a dev.
Does anyone recommend any good books atall?

One has to wonder at your choices in themes of dystopia and mind blowing reality bending.
You'd think the standard reason of watching these forms of media to escape REALITY would influence your selections.2 -
Guys is that the case, that it is such a hassle to work with forms in React-Redux application?! Hell, it takes a lot of time to just create a simple form with like 3 lines of inputs.
Everytime I need to setup bunch of those Actions that will fire on a field value change, than selectors to pick from the state and send to the backend with redux-saga. OMG OMG OMG.
Redux-forms kind a struggle to setup too at first, but I guess I have to go for it anyway?1 -
Sveltekit's progressive enhancement on forms is an obstacle more than a tool.
Submit buttons stop working when they want.
Other buttons in the forms may trigger an action via POST if their type is not defined.
Everything with no feedback whatsoever. At least tell me I'm an idiot in the form or let me know why a button type="submit" does nothing to send the form data 🤦1 -
Any recommendations on a jquery/js plugin that saves form fields in the scenario where the user left the form or page they can come back and still have the values from when they left. I wrote up some thing for a small form on an old site using sessionStorage api but I need something that can work with any form or perhaps multiple forms at once. any good plugins out there?6

Having a code-gasam over here because reuse in Angular > reuse in AngularJS(AJS). Throw in reactive forms instead of template driven forms in AJS and I'm done.

A lot of our web forms are done with AngularJS and combined with jQuery it does everything I need to satify the needs of people who are most impressed CSS transitions and have no technical knowledge whatsoever. I have no peers to ask this question.
I'm the only person deciding on what JS libs to use at the company... and since AngularJS goes into maintenance mode... what would you guys suggest to handle form input and add/remove CSS classes to HTML elements?
Should I get on the VUE bandwagon this year?13 -

I'm not experienced in VB Forms. So can someone who is, tell me if I'm just too inexperienced or if Im right about this?
Im tasked with fixing some bugs in a VB Forms project that a privious employee wrote some years ago. When I opened the project and checked it out, there was over 5600 lines of code in the codebehind for the form.
I feel like this is somewhat bad practice, no comments, no documentation... Nothing. And to top it off, among the worst naming of Subs and variables ever. Stuff like: "Run", "Stop", "Feeder", "When Load".
Oh, and the best part? The guy forgot some test code in the software, so when he left, the software stoped functioning. For real, he coded in a dependency to his own account in The AD.1 -
For some reason I always forget the enctype from forms with file uploads. Spent half an hour today digging through the functions for saving the file before discovering the image want being posted at all. D'oh

To the UI/UXs... Which of these approaches is more Mobile User Friendly?
- A single screen with all 12 form fields visible to the user, where only four of these fields are optional and inputs are validated on submission.
----- OR -----
- A single screen with fields split into 12 sub screens, a form progress bar at the top, a next and previous button with "skip" button for optional fields, with inputs validated progressively.
You can imagine the contents of the form like the ones on surveys. I have already implemented the second option but in doubts of its friendliness, I also had previously implemented something similar to the first but with criticism from colleges stating it's too much fields in one screen.
I would love to see from your view and learn from your experience... What do you think?8 -

Uh, oh. Helping finish a project heavy on forms. Notice that everything is straight up jQuery to pull and push every single individual input value. Not a form tag in sight. But there are tables. Tables are everywhere.
