- Girl: I don't understand how some people can be so foolish and decide to study computer science.

Uber driver: What do you do?
Me: I make apps and do some server side programming
Uber driver: Does that mean you have to type in 1s and 0s all day?16
Fuck You blue car driver who is texting and just cut in front of me! I accidentally double tapped the wrong rant!4
I FUCKING HATE how I always have to prove my abilities twice to everyone just because I sit in a wheelchair!!!
I mean if the people on the street treat me like a child it's hard enough... they might just be afraid of the unknown or simply stupid... but at the office?
You know what I do for a living... What on earth would make you think you have to treat me as if I have some kind of cognitive disability as well?
I am going to roll/drive over the next guy who does something like that!!!
Sorry for the non dev rant but this had to get out48
Step 1. Get a large touchscreen monitor. Connect it.
Step 2. Modify the driver so touches don't actually cause clicks or anything.
Step 3. Let it play a sudden, loud BEEP instead. Increase the volume for each subsequent touch.
Step 4. Lean back and watch people learn that you don't like your screen being touched.16
Uber Driver: What do you do, Sir?
Me: I'm an Engineer. What about you?
Uber Driver: I'm a Uber Driver.
Every time I hear a developer say "works for me", I'm gonna hide a service of mine that they use behind the VPN.
Dev: "oy mate, this server is down"
Me (with VPN connection): "sorry mate, works for me"
Dev: "but here, check this out, it's down!!"
Me: "mate, check your network connection. You must have a shitty network connection."
Me: "Maybe shitty hardware? Driver issues on your network card? 🤭"
Because you know, we sysadmins can do that too 😉28
6 monitors are success-fucking-fully running on my setup.
Fun detail is that WITH the official AMD driver, one screen wasn't turning on and one had a weird resolution but WITHOUT it, it works completely fine!
Yes, it runs completely fine on Linux (Kubuntu).
Finally have my dream setup.42
I love how my laptop crashed twice in less than 30 minutes.
I thought is was the shit load of windows.
But it was a driver problem.
So I finally witnessed the stereotype of programmers = hackers...
*called a taxi to go from my uni to bus station"
Driver: so what are you studying?
Me: oh just some programming stuff(was too tired to actually say the field)
D: Oh so you're a hacker eh? You can hack Facebook?
Me: Well, n-....
D: I swear to god those hackers earn millions... I'd like to hack, but my head probably couldn't handle all the 0's and 1's
*all kinda db shizzle at work but finally done and going home. Can't see anything related to databases for the next few hours*
*gets in car and closes eyes for 5 minutes* (I'm not the driver)
*opens eyes only to look right into the center of a license plate: xx-DB-xx*
I think the universe hates me or something.2
A quite normal Windows day:
Bios to Windows: "Go now! Get up!"
Windows to Bios: "Always slow with the young circuit boards."
"I've got something weird on screen."
Windows' answer: "Ignore it first."
Hardware assistant to Windows: "The user puts pressure. He wants me to identify this thing. Could be an ISDN card."
Windows: "Well, well."
Unknown ISDN card to all: "Will you please let me in?"
Network card to intruder: "You can't spread out here!"
Windows: "Quiet in the case! Or I'll cut both their support!"
Device Manager: "Offer compromise. The network card is allowed on Mondays, the ISDN card is on Tuesday."
Graphics card to Windows: "My driver retired yesterday. I'm crashing now."
Windows to graphics card: "When will you be back?"
Graphics card: "Well, not at first."
CD-Rom drive to Windows: "uh, I would have a new driver here..."
Windows: "What's ich´n supposed to do with it?!"
Installation software to Windows: "Leave it, I'll mach´ that already."
Windows: "That's nice to hear."
USB connection to interrupt management: "Alarm! Just been penetrated by a scanner cable. Request response."
Interrupt management: "Where are you coming from?"
USB connection: "I was in the computer right from the start. I'm joined by another colleague."
"You're not on my list." - "Say something."
Windows: "Hopefully there won't be another printer."
Graphics card: "The new driver twitches."
Windows: "We'll just have to get the old one out of retirement."
Uninstall program to new driver: "Go away."
Unwanted driver: "Fuck you."
Windows to Norton Utilities: "Kill him and his brood!"
Utilities to driver rests: "Sorry, we have to delete you."
Important system file: "Arrrrrrgghh!"
Windows on blue screen: "Gib´, the Norton Boys are over the top again."
Blue screen to user: "So, that's it for this week."
Excuse me for stealing your time
And I know it's way too long7
long rant = this;
Jesus. Fucking. Christ.
The task: get Windows 7 on my mom's new Lenovo running win 10.
First idea: dual boot. Go into disk utility and shrink win 10 partition leaving empty partition. Easy!
Unfortunately it all went downhill from there.
Restart, can't get into boot menu. Google says you have to do that from Windows. Ok.
Laptop says BOOTING FROM CD IS NOT SUPPORTED. WTF??
Go into BIOS, enable legacy boot, prioritize legacy. Restart. Ok, it boots from disk.
Go to install 7 on the empty partition and it can't because its an unsupported partition format or some shit. Whatever, wipe everything. Ok, installing windows.
Windows installed, need drivers. Go download them with another computer and go to copy them over with USB disk. Windows doesn't detect it. THIS POS DOESN'T HAVE STANDARD USB DRIVERS?!?!?
Of course, the laptop didn't come with any driver software. I end up burning a fucking CD like its fucking 2001 so that I can get the goddamn wifi driver on it.
Ok, I have wifi. Go to Lenovo site, find driver page. Select all the drivers I want for the model/OS and click download. Lenovo site says "hey, use this driver update software." I'm like, hey asshole, why don't you just give me the drivers i asked for. But fine.
Driver update software downloads, I install it, nothing happens. I run it, it says it's already running. Still nothing. What the goddamn flipping fuck?
I go download the drivers individually. I try to install USB driver. It says my system is not supported. .............Try to install chipset driver, not supported. ............ I can install maybe half of the drivers and I still can't even use a fucking USB mouse. Gonna have to wait for windows update to find it sometime two days from now.
I hope everyone in charge of Lenovos fucking ass backwards pointless piece of useless fucking shit drivers gets raped to death with a serrated knife.21
Girlfriend (she has little idea of tech) was asking if I could fix her notebooks wifi.
I didn't answer that for a week.
Yesterday she really needed wifi, so she went to google and followed several posts - until she managed find the problem and to reinstall her wifi driver for the first time! She was so proud of herself.
I hope I'll never forget that grin of her - full of triumph!
I couldn't be more proud of her myself9
So my ethernet randomly stopped working on Arch.
At first I thought it had to do with a conflict between it and my tethered phone, so I tried removing all my connections. Still wasn't working.
Next I tried to test the driver itself and make sure it loaded on boot. It loaded, but was disconnected.
Next I decided "fuck it, I know I was just using the internet on Windows, but I'll check the ethernet cable is still plugged in anyway". It was, and it was returning the right MAC address, but still no connection.
So I try debugging the driver further. Everything seemed fine, except it would time out trying to establish a dhcp connection.
Finally I figured, maybe Microsoft tried to troll me and lock out the ethernet waking on boot. So I restart my computer, load into windows and check my ethernet driver, it seems fine. I go to disable the shutdown of the card on OS shutdown. Turns out this driver no longer has that capability.
Wait a minute!? Windows is also having connection issues!?
I look to my left.
Fuck my life...
My router was off... I must of kicked the powerboard under my desk..........2
Brought two laptops: Linux and windows
Forgot charger for windows.
Graphics not working properly in linux
Three hours of package installation, documentation diving, package removal, driver fuckery and other assorted fun
I can now play Minecraft.4

HW issue causing blue screens? Windows' fault.
Driver bug? Windows' fault.
A program crashing? Windows' fault.
"Forced" updates you could've turned off? Windows' fault.
You have no common sense? Windows' fault.
Your girlfriend leaving you? Windows' fault.
Let's blame Windows because I got nothing else to blame.28
How to get Linux advice properly:
If you say "guys pls help my wifi driver doesn't work on Linux" u will be ignored.
If you say "man Linux is shit even my wifi drivers don't work", hundreds of people will solve the issue.3
Hate to admit it but: I went back to Windows on my dev machine after running Linux as main OS for like 10 years. I came to the point where I'm tired of driver problems and broken bootloaders and just want things to work...37
Saturday plan: serious switch to Linux.
1. Installs Fedora, lookin nice.
2. Let's update it, fails to boot.
3. Nouveau driver fails, lets install proprietary one.
4. dnf install dependencies, repo returns 503
5. Be stuck on a 640x480 bash.
6. Boot windows, start overwatch.17
"Your driver weighs 7 GBs!" -
a) it only "weighs" 20MBs
b) when did the byte become a unit of mass? 🤔4
You've got to love Android development.. :D Just grabbed my laptop to start working on an idea I just had. Launched Android Studio to do some quick coding..
Update for the repo's..
Update for the IDE itself..
Update for gradle..
Started project. Need to update my build tools..
I.. I.. I just wanted to do some quick coding :D
*edit* Just tried to run the project.. "Acceleration driver is out of date, please update Haxm" .. Damnit..7
All these fortnite plyers thanking the bus driver but none of them thanking their graphics drivers2
Since I've been seeing a lot of Linux distros, here's mine
Not a daily driver but something to get me used to it8
I just fixed a wireless driver issue on my friend's HP laptop. I had to download driver source separately and build it and install it..
Bloody RT3290.. Turns out the WiFi doesn't work by default on laptops with this chip and Ubuntu 16**
Two days ago I decided to fully upgrade my linux system. Everything used to work normally, but after the upgrade the os always freezes on boot. Apparently it's because of the graphic card (nvidia) and even after installing the driver and trying so many things it still doesnt work. It's been two days trying to fix it and no luck yet. What a lucky weekend 😂6
Alright. I'm done with the basic documentation. here are the links to all the stuff I have been working on:

Feel free to break stuff and report it in the comments or in github.
contributions are greatly appreciated.23
NVIDIA started publising documentation of their GPU architecture to help Open-Source driver ?
Am i alive ?
Are they OK ?
Too many questions.
But im alive to see the point when NVIDIA realized that they need Open-Source driver. Now just put some devs to work on them and Linux community might even slightly like you.
But we will never like you totally. Past cant be changed.14

I requested an Uber to take me Chicago Midway Airport.
They driver takes me to a different airport over an hour away! I nearly missed my flight because he didn't follow directions. To add insult to a shitty situation he charged me an extra $40 for his mistake.
This morning I requested a refund and noted the driver took a long route. They had the nerve to reply and blame it on me! Claiming the drop-off location was not the location original specified. Mother fuckers I have a screen shot!
I am astounded that they would stoop to such low levels as to shift the blame to me. I suppose they were betting I didn't have a screen shot.
Well, time to try lift!7
Nvidia makes real time ray tracing and a ehole bunch of graphics stuff beyond our imagination but they can't make a linux driver that actually works well... For ducks sake12
For Windows driver update, found a great (open source) tool to update or install missing drivers.
My dell laptop (Windows 10) screen used to go blank or some bubble used to appear may times a day. Used Dell driver update tool, no update, says all driver up to date.
Then used Snappy Driver Installer tool, which detected my laptop details correctly.
Then it showed that my display driver was almost a year old and there were couple of updates, latest being just last month. In addition to that, there were 30+ updates on disk drivers, networking, sensors, bluetooth, audio etc.
First updated my display driver, upon success, slowly updated the rest of it. Now, the system worked entire day without any issue. Also, my laptop fan used to run full speed seems to have slowed down.
Also, my external monitor clarity has improved.
ps: worked for me, but be careful. Check it thoroughly before updating, update only those drivers which are giving trouble and there are no updated drivers available from windows or manufacturers.10
My friend told me that there is a new Linux Distro which runs on any Hardware and didn't install a single driver. [Excited Me asks] which distro is it?
I finally got an acceptable version of my assembler done. Just a pic of my terrible code for now, I will share the links to it, my Virtual cpu emulator and my graphics emulator / driver once I am done writing readme files for them.15

Met this couple at the grocery store. After few minutes we were sharing mobile numbers. An hour later I was at their home. Next I remember switching on their laptop to install audio driver.

Idiot running Linux -> Normal Linux user5
Sorry if this sounds like retard question on linux system
I installed nvidia driver on my laptop (720M) and it showed black screen after reboot, BUT if I enter my password and hit enter the screen goes back to normal on desktop, it just didn’t show anything on the first lock screen
I’ve followed linux mint nvidia driver instructions, removing the package re installing, etc.
P.S. All of the question I found on the internet seems to be total black screen after installing the driver, whereas mine could work after I entered my password12
Fucking Windows... If you don't have enough memory for everything youre supposed to do, then kill whatever you want, but not the fucking graphics driver.
What should I do then? Close something different? Fuckin Monkeys.2
Two days ago I went to change an Nvidia driver on my Linux mint partition and it ended up breaking everything, all my fault because I'm so new to Linux, anyways to dig that hole deeper I looked for ways to fix it, found some random command that managed to destroy mint even more lol. I had no start menu and cinnamon kept going into recovery mode.
But the next day after spending time working through what to do I managed to fix it, I basically downloaded mintmenu again and uninstalled the graphics driver
All in all I think I've come closer to learning how fun Linux is, it was fun fixing what I broke rather than actually clean installing mint again.
Morale of the story: don't randomly use commands found on the net that has 3 upvotes lol8
You've perhaps heard of Blue Screen Of Death in Windows. But how about GREEN screen of death?

me: *press the stop button*
me: *see my Station driving pass me*

me: uhm, yes? thats why I pressed that button...5
Mint can't find correct driver for Intel NUC.
The download page for linux Intel graphic driver update tool project was closed.
Asked what's happened on Ubuntu stack exchange, got immediately closed, because of off topic: mint is not Ubuntu...🤦♂️
My solution is to uninstall mint, and install Ubuntu...
Still the same driver issue, but at least I could ask...
God damn it.26
I wish we could have more letters in Alphabet :( :( . Got it in the morning and after a restar everything gone. Lost the haven of DVD drive.....8

Lenovo, you dumb fuck cunts.
How the fuck did you think it might be okay to ship a laptop with a BROKEN FUCKING WLAN DRIVER??????
This piece of shit doesn't even have RJ45 anymore.
And also who shit in your empty cavities where your brains should be when you thought it was a good thing to disable booting from anything but the main windows partition? My Mint installer stick works on any and everything I have ever tried him with except for this.3
And well fuck. Latest build of lineage and doesnt boot. And sadly this isnt my nypon development this is my fucking daily driver. Well luckily next build has a fix in. But still fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
But well not terrible. I didnt miss any calls surely.

I think one of the main disadvantages of working at Uber is that you should explain you’re an engineer not a driver every time someone ask you about your job2
Dammit! My daughter seem to have a resolution problem with her drawings. Anyone know if there's a device driver that can be upgraded or something?6
who has used a screw driver to connect the prongs to turn on a computer without a case/power button?7
Taxi Driver: Do you like this song Sir?
Me: Not sure, I don't know it!
Taxi Driver: Alexa, change the song...
Really good when you cant connect your pc with a 100€ os to the internet and you click on "show more solutions" and it only offers you online support and, even dumber, "ask a friend". Thanks, great work everybody, really good. Why don't you just write "sorry our os is too shity, but we don't want to care about it anymore, go fuck yourself in the corner over there"5
I'll start an internship as a web developer tomorrow. Boss crashed into my gar today. I pray to god that he's a better boss than a driver3
Whoever said that Linux "just works" obviously never had to use 5GHz wi-fi. I can't even 'make' the kernel module. And last official driver only supports kernel <=3.12. I guess I will have to use Windows ):14
So as many may know. I have Ryzen 5 laptop with VEGA 8 iGPU and dGPU RX560X.
Lets cut straight to the point ay ?
A guy at feral interactive saw a bug in memory managment in RADV driver in case of APUs.
When he fixed it he was greeted by 30% fps boost to all games.
Not only that those APUs are already heck powerful. They are now even more powerful on Vulkan. This is fucking crazy.15
Note to self:
Next time, don't write your assembler in python. And using a file as a buffer for your graphics driver probably wasn't the best idea either.12

I just got the news that my video driver for Linux was fixed. I removed windows from my machine and I am all happy now. I wasn't a windows hater but development is just so much smoother on Linux. (Mainly Java)
I also went an extra mile and checked out i3. So far, I like it5
In a shit mood from developing and being an adult so fuck it, let's get drunk and delete windows and install arch as my main driver...
Im sure nothing will go wrong...5
It was my first month as a driver developer fresh out of grad school, at a semiconductor company. There was an elusive memory alignment bug that had eluded the experts on the team. Of course, they had to assign it to me.
I was looking at the code where alignment was being calculated for nested structures case. I saw something funny: "size_t(object)". I asked the expert where it should have been "sizeof(object)". And, sure enough it was!!
I was super-thrilled to have fixed a bug in my first month, which had troubled the team for a long time! ^_^6
Everytime I boot into windows soemthing goes wrong. Driver that doesn't load properly, loss of connection on a fucking RJ45 cable, boot process that locks the desktop for about 5mns randomly... What the hell!?!??! I just don't get any of this crap on Linux. And also, how the fuck is Microsoft expecting to draw the Linux crowed to them by putting linux on top of their massive steaming pile of plague ridden shite?!? Linux works very well without that stink! F.U. Microsoft! and F.U. to your imbred, affront-to-nature, colossal putrifying piece of gelatinous diarrhetic shite of an OS!
.|.. (o_o) ..|.9
I love open source and all that fun stuff but I am very unimpressed by having to use GNU/Linux based OS after the last fuck up... the lack of games, stuff that actually works, the almost constant need to compile something and the need to have DDG open at all times because something broke. I mean why the fuck do I need to install libcurl3:i386(for 32 bit programs and games) if there is already libcurl4 and why the actual fuck does it conflict?!... Why the fuck do I need to glue together and compile drivers for my printer?! And they only have "beta support" so like half of the functions that the printer would normally have... Why the fuck don't any games work? Witcher 2? Nope, you click launch and the launcher just closes itself. osu!lazor? Nope, the game will run but only as a process in the background, no window will open no matter what I do. StarCraft: Brood War? Nope, Wine hates the battle.net client and running it in a VM is a really bad idea, the game flickers like crazy... Any other games? Pretty much out of luck... I would really like to play KCD but I doubt it would be playable...25
OK, I love Linux. But I hate the whole "sacrifice-functionality-so-it-can-be-completely-free-and-open-source" thing.
I tried to install Linux a while back on my old laptop, and getting Wi-Fi to work was a nightmare. Apparently they didn't have the right driver for my Wi-Fi card, because it wasn't "free" enough for them. ugh. Most people prefer for their computer to WORK than for every single piece of code to be open source. Who modifies their Wi-Fi driver and redistributes it?
Ugh. Linux is cool, but not this part.21
Android Pie im coming for you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are already running on my daily driver so lets just get you running on my old device !8
The taxi driver has Rubber Duck setting in front of him looking forward to the traffic... Another level of debugging...
This bus driver really has to stop wasting my fucking time. He was 8 minutes late in the first place (this line is NEVER late) and then he took a 10 minute detour which means I'll be 2 trains late for work. Fucking great start on the week!5
Whyyyyyyy the fuck do you crash mmc driver when i enable wifi driver ??
It will be pain to fix this.
my first day with Linux.
1. downloaded the Ubuntu 16. 04 LTS and made bootable.
2. install it on my system.
3. after installing wifi is not working.
4. searched on internet with my phone and connected my PC with USB thetering.
5. now installed wifi driver.
6. now my Nvidia card is not working installed its driver too.
6.finally i look at my desktop and its looking really ancient and old.
7. installed gnome desktop and switch to it.
8. now gnome is not much functional so added some extensions like dash to dock, dynamic transparency.
9. now setup java and android studio.
10. after that android studio font is looking blurry. finally stackoverflow made my life easy and i fixed it.
now after all this my system is working crazy fast.. Android studio is opening in just 5-6 seconds.
really happy.. 😍 😍7
How I think the process for designing a hardware-driver is like
CEO: "Alright everyone, we have designed and created this great product, now let's write a driver for it!"
PM: "Great then! We just code for Windows, create an eye-catching UI but leave the actual at the worst possible case that could work!"
Dev: "B-But isn't there other OSes, like Linux and Android that people use on their computers too?"
PM: "Shut up! We are going to JUST support Windows and f*** no absolutely other OSes!
Dev: "But what if they are also developers, and want to control and use this great product by programming it themselves? We should make the driver open-source, or at least give them some APIs!"
PM: "Nonsense! They are only going to use this product on M$ Windows, and with the program we provide to them, even if it's crappy and crashes most of the time!"
PM: "No buts! That's our final decision!"
And some other consumer devs are like, "F*** it, we just reverse-engineer the codes and write a new driver ourselves!"
Linux gurus: any idea how to fix this? All images with gradients look like this. Latest nvidia driver installed by Mint 18.1.
I tried to google it, but I found nothing.23
F*cking wifi driver on acer aspire. Suddenly the WiFi stops working, no way to turn it back on. Alright I'll restart if that helps your pedantic ass. Fucking hangs in restart and then crashes.... THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WITH THE LATEST DRIVERS! DID YOU JUST JERK OFF ON THE SOURCECODE OF YOUR DRIVER OR DID YOU ACTUALLY FIX THE BLOODY THING.2
Built a C#/.NET application with support for a serial device. Tested it on systems A, B, C initially, all Windows system, same .NET version, same targeting, same build tool version, same initial connection configuration etc, etc.
Testing - works on A and C, B nopes.
OK, let's check the source, is there something about B that makes it impossible to execute that bit? - No, there is not, you checked that already, stop poking around, it definitively should work on B.
OK, maybe admin privileges, there is I/O involved, didn't need that on A and C, but who knows - nope, doesn't work on B.
OK, maybe something wrong with the connection settings? First try at reinstalling driver - but no, it doesn't work on B.
OK let's try with another device - more/less devices on B. Other USB ports. No. Still does not work on B.
OK, this is stupid, but, is the cabling alright? It is, of course it is, stupid - but it still does not work on B.
OK, at that point I'm just gonna ask a colleague, GrumpySoftwareDev whether he has any clue why it doesn't work on B. GrumpySoftwareDev knows nothing, but discovers that one of his applications doesn't work on Windows 10. You know nothing, Jon Snow, but it doesn't work on B.
OK, now I'm just going to ask another colleague TheLastOfHisKind who handed B down to me somewhat bluntly if he ever experienced problems when working with B and its serial configuration. TheLastOfHisKind tells me he does not and kindly offers me some input on the situation. Still no progress to get it working on B but he hinted he might have fucked up B's driver. I already reinstalled the driver but didn't reboot, which comes after reinstall.
OK, I'm just gonna remove and re-install the driver, then restart. Hu! Now the UI is gone but another serial device reacted on a general call. Not fully working on B but we're getting there.
OK, I don't know, I'm getting frustrated, let's borrow another system D - which has roughly the same configuration as B - from my colleague StrongCurrentGuy. StrongCurrentGuy borrows me his system and cautions me not to break it. I install the driver, plug the device and copy the application from B. It just works on D. Not on B though.
OK, you know what. I'm done. For shits and giggles I'm gonna remove that driver again, reinstall it and restart, maybe it'll magically work afterwar- WHAT THE HELL, I JUST OPENED IT AFTER RESTARTING, IT JUST WORKS - ON B!
... seriously, what the fuck. But yeah, at least it works now.4
Gdpr thing aside...
Does anybody read the new policy...
I just did for 2 apps (intel driver software and 9ga.. You know it)...
On the things that they collected on the side without you knowing include:
Device memory, language, battery level, timezone, unique device identifiers, compass, accelorometer and microphone... Even service provider and signal strength
Website you visit, how you use your computer(vague too vague) and computing environment.
Did anybody knew for sure before this that their apps are listening to them? That they just made a profile of you with all the data?
With all this they dont even need your ip they already know who you are and what you do on a daily basis...
There are 20 more but it will be waaay too much to write about. These 2 are way worse since 9ga doesnt use microphone for anything... And why a driver reads what websites i am going to?4
In our company, all devs are using windows notebooks with the brand Schenker.
And they get bluescreens regularly. The bluescreens are currupting git repos and other data. Seems to be caused by some driver issues with trackpad but no fix for that yet. Happening for years now...
If someone hits the table and gets angry, he probably got a bluescreen again...3
Happy Christmas fuckers.
I don't normally swear, but I'm with family in Ireland and I'm not the designated driver for once, so fuck it.
Have a good one!1
- idiots get out of there car and dance with the door open...
- Meh. Ghost riding the whip is old news.
The Kiki fail
- people get out and either fail or get betrayed.
Me: now I’m on board.
Great examples seen so far...
1. Women get out dancing, drops her bag (on purpose) in dancing. A motorcycle comes along and steals her purse.
Me: Great. I hope they get away with it too. I like the criminals more than the idiot in this case.
2. Dude gets out and starts dancing. Driver speeds up. The guy holds on to the car telling him to “STOP!”. He stops, the guy goes head first through the window of the driver (its down) and I assume right on his head.
Me: mmmmm delicious7
STOP FORCING ME TO REIR ART YOU PIECE OF SHIT.
I've officially decided to make the change to linux. Can anyone recommend me a good distribution? Is there anything like homestead with all necessary tools already installed? Any help to get me started on using Linux as a daily driver is welcome, thanks 👌25
I bought a corporate refurb HP desktop to use to replace a rpi3 in an IoT project I was working on. It came with Windows 10 on it. It has an ethernet port on it, which is what I prefer, but Windows 10 couldn't see it. So I installed Debian and everything worked perfectly, with no driver config.
I'm stuck in road traffic and it's giving me headache, i wish every driver knows at least FIFO rule, if it's on a computer the CPU will quit his job because of all those stupid processes :/
What the hell is wrong with bus drivers?! Our bus was just stopping, and the bus on the other side of the road couldn't care to wait 20 more seconds, so he drives away, fucking waving to our driver. What the hell man? Literally everyone coming with this bus takes it just to switch to your fucking bus you cunt!4
Yesterday i realised the importance of documenting everything step by step . I was told to port an driver/application that we made for linux 4.1 to a 4.9 kernel . Eventhough i did already port another similar application to the same , didnt remember what are things that i did.. Thank God ..If not for the constant pestering of my colleagues to document each step.. I would have been stuck in that island for 2 more days ..1
"Got a new soundcard yay, lemme Install it!"
*5 mins later*
"why won't it give me sound ffs, the input works just fine"
*5 mins later*
"Great, sound output works"
*5 mins later*
"yay, input now works"
*puts on some music*
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME WHINEDOWS!?"5
When you migrate from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7, if you use MongoDB, be careful, the driver is not the same ! So you have to rewrite your implementation !1
Okay, I usually don't rant about Windows.
But why the flying fuck does it automatically pick a driver for RNDIS5 for a RNDIS6 device (USB tethering on Android devices)? It's hanging many parts of the systems until I change it to the right driver (which is not shown as compatible and warned against whilst being the only one that works). Seriously, I usually never have problems with Windows, but this is the only thing that annoys the fuck out of me with it.6
I hate the Windows vs Linux posts and the Windows sucks posts but god dammit...
With Windows 7 becoming older and older with less and less things supporting it (latest thing is the new Oculus Dash) I yet again decided to try out Windows 10 to see if I should finally upgrade from a reasonably stable system.
So I make a virtual machine out of my physical one and boot it up in VMWare... I upgrade to Windows 10 to check it out it's kind of janky, but I attribute the jankiness to the messiness of running my physical machine in a VM... I continue with the setup process and suddenly, I only see a black screen and a cursor...
I notice VMware is hinting at not being able to connect to the monitor... I realise that, while everything is black and I can't even open Task Manager, I can still see the Ctrl-alt-delete screen so I'm fairly certain at this point it's the VGA driver, still thinking it's probably VMware...
I boot up into safe mode and I try to open up Device manager to uninstall the driver, it won't open (no error or anything, just doesn't open)...
I try opening up devices in the settings and see that the display device is giving an error, try to uninstall it from there, but it freezes the settings app, every time..
I try to uninstall VMware tools as that's where the driver is, click on remove or uninstall whatever the button says and guess what, it freezes the settings app....
I try to open task manager to kill it and task manager is not responding...
fuck it, I'm done...1
So I just spent probably 40 minutes wondering why rEFInd wouldn't fucking boot. Config? Nope. Boot partition being stupid? Nope.
Turned out I forgot to copy the fucking ext4 driver over to the ESP.
I'm fucking tired guys.2
Today I am thankful that at my company, nobody is going to get offended during code reviews when they see my SPI driver using terms like master/slave. GG company!
I tried to run android studio on ubuntu. My graphics driver isn't compatible with ubuntu and my computer has 4gn ram. The computer has been crying for 2 hours now and it won't stop.5
On my home machines, I am a dual booter (job is .net) but Ubuntu is running 90% of time. Last night I tried installing a printer but failed miserably. Due to time constraint I had to boot that fucking resource molester of win10 which sux even more on low end box like mine.
Now am red eyed & angry. Fucking printer .8
The IT policy at my company is down right ridiculous. You’re required admin rights to fucking move desktop shortcuts to the trash, all chrome extensions and almost anything you download from the internet is a ‘virus’, good luck getting driver support for external devices.3
Just bought a knockoff controller for my gaming PC, plugged it in and I was playing Rocket League in 10 seconds. No driver install, no key mapping.
This is how everything should be.1
Every god damn time I have to interact with windows I hate it more and more. I sold my old Dell PC, and said I'd install Win10 on it for the dude.
It's now been 2 hours of me trying to figure out why the Win10 installer complains about missing drivers, and trying to figure out exactly what drivers are missing, because they sure as absolute fuck don't tell you.
"A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now."
Well how the fuck am I supposed to know what driver you need? The least helpful error message in the history of computing....12
Neighbours asked me to help them setting up their new printer.
Bug: Installation of the driver fails.
Fix: The printer has to be turned on during installation.
I earned 20 bucks for this single press of only one button.
First-Level-Support in the neighbourhood: Annoying but pays like hell.3
To be fair I'm actually grateful for Windows 10! If it had never frustrated me the way it did I wouldn't have seriously tried out any linux distro as a daily driver 😂1
So, uh... Linux 3DS is going well. It finally boots, turns out it's the SD/MMC driver's issue, not my 3DS dying (phew), but now I have to actually FIX the driver. I thought I fixed it, but no, no, I just entirely broke it so now it doesn't even attempt to load. Fuck me... (These changes are local for now.)
Anyone wanna help?
Just have just installed VMWare Player for a school project but had to uninstall it because our teacher was unable to put the right version on our share.
Now my Notebooks keybord driver is that broken that a simple reinstall over the device Manager couldn’t fix it!
Been coding and learning for 3 years and still don’t even feel close to try and look for a job. FUCK. Don’t wanna be a valet driver forever.11
I made this bad decision to buy pretty pricey laptop with nVidia card. Lenovo Legion Y520.
So yeah, have you heard about optimus technology and how much one can hate nvidia?
> Debian is working, nice.
> Let's try nvidia-driver.
> 48hours later: WOoooooah glxgears at 120 fps!
> Installed some fonts. "Could not load gpu driver". HDMI port stops working. Unable to repair. Entering despair.
> Surviving on dual-booted windows.
Is it just me or is the Audio driver for Antergos WAAAY better than the one on Windows? Big diffrence for me at least.
Also, huge thanks to whoever made devRantron available on AUR.11
I always had this mentality that I shouldn’t rely on a certain library or framework for my entire project because what if one day they stop supporting it. (Yeah I’m talking to u vuetify) That’s why I came up with this code structure that for everything that I wanna do I have a ‘driver’ library all coded by myself that interacts with that third party framework or library so if they stop supporting it I could just change a couple of lines of code in my driver file and my codebase should be working again. But I feel like this ‘driver’ approach is not the most efficient way of going in terms of memory usage. Do you guys think I should keep it simple and directly use those libraries or this is actually not a bad approach.8
Today i did it, after WEEKS of stuggle and suffering, this fcking odbc driver with multi db login WORKS on cpanel with php. I'm happy, ashamed, and i need a third beer.
tfw 256MB isn't enough RAM to load a zImage from SD, decompress it elsewhere, then boot Linux on a 3DS. OOM panic when trying to init a null wlan driver.
so close yet so very fucking far2
I have a dream that someone will write completely free linux driver for AMD videocards
and for Nvidia too
and fixes OpenGL7
Didn't install linux for years now. Today, I have to and nothing changed about wifi drivers, at all ! Even the install process still sucks !
And they still ask to "sudo apt-get install fucking-wifi-driver" ?!?!?!
I don't have internet yet, that's the all point, damn it !22
So, in roughly 2 years?
- Having my driver licence
- Get my graduation (should be in a few months but still)
- Find another work
- Get a better pay
- Loose 40 kgs
- And a GF would be a bonus
Whoever thought that using some crappy niche framework for selenium web driver based on node.js instead of using Python or Java bindings like every other reasonable person would do should be beaten to death with old keyboards.1
Does anyone actually use ZorinOS as a daily driver?
I've read reviews and they call it a "gorgeous" distro... It looks like a colour pallette swap of android 4.0 and I hate to say this to them but adding wine to your distro does not make it "windows compatible"...
I like the idea of ZorinOS but the execution is just horrible imho7
"You basically need a iOS and Android app, with access to the driver and also to the final client with an administrative environment and integration to pay online via the app"
- Uber like app request from a friend
Day 2 of trying to get SQL database to work with JDBC application.
I've built a try/catch method and it throws up the message that IntelliJ can't find the JDBC driver.
More research to be done. My first officer duck buddy has no input for me.
It's going to be a long day.17
Ok so I wrote my VGA text mode driver in rust, how would I do create like graphics and stuff? Because all it does right now is display text.7
Anyone run Linux as there daily driver? (Work or Personal) Why do you use it? For me its because I am techliterate and I need a OS that meets my needs.9
Was discussing phones with a friend.
After a while, I said I use a Nexus 5X as my main driver with a Nokia 3310 (which I have for like 10 years already, they are that Finlay proof lmao) as an emergency backup.
So he said: "best backup ever, and if you have robbers, you throw it. Don't bring a gun to a Nokia 3310 fight"
A "safe" Ubuntu update decided to fuck with my AMD drivers and after rebooting, a nostalgic black emergency terminal greeted me with some cryptic message containing hex code as if any mortal user could make sense of it.
To add insult to injury, local mirrors don't have 18.04 which makes apt vomit errors during software installation.
How the hell does the most well known distro out there manage to have problems like that?6
Why printer services is stuck in time?
The windows printer spooler is old like my grandma. He fuck all the time but nobody wants to recode it ? I need to search for old driver a day long to make it fucking work at 10%
On linux generic printer driver do the job but cannot do all the things you want
Why is so fucking complicated all the time ? ( Don't think that scanner work you don't have de correct driver )
Solutions printer share the code for how de fuck i work ?2
Worked fine in previous PC under Windows 10..
Newer PC, works fine if you unplug it, and plug it back in again, then when you reboot, it forgets its there..
Plug it in via an unpowered USB hub and it installs the driver for the IR receiver, then, when rebooting, no issues !3
>Client: Hey, I lost my Facebook password but it's saved on my old laptop
>Me: ...alright, i'll look
>Laptop: won't boot - "No bootable devices found!"
>opens 'er up to pull drive
this is really heavy for an SSD, Corsair, and especially for only 64GB
>plugs into other PC
>sees jumper pins
>BAREFOOT-ROM RECOVERYMODE SSD DEVICE - 128GB
that's twice the size of the disk, wtf?
but ok, i'll take it, any data?
>Win10: *crashes because driver chokes*
>Win7: *crashes because driver chokes*
>WinXP: *doesn't see it, TestDisk doesn't run because Kernel32.DLL issue*
>Linux: *Issues the instant SSD plugged in, they stop instant removed*
just a poll i'm looking for from all the linux based dev's
What distro would you recommend for a front end dev? Tried ubuntu but the wifi driver wasnt supported I guess in my dev machine. Currently looking at Elementary OS, but still undecided. I would primarily like it to be Debian based or something close as I'm very familiar with apt-get debain based stuff, and dont really feel like learning an entirely new distro at them moment.
Thanks all :D
PS. I have a Lenovo Ideapad 110
Specs include quad-core AMD A-8, 8gb ram, 1TB HDD, can give more if necessary12
Argh! (I feel like I start a fair amount of my rants with a shout of fustration)
Tl;Dr How long do we need to wait for a new version of xorg!?
I've recently discovered that Nvidia driver 435.17 (for Linux of course) supports PRIME GPU offloading, which -for the unfamiliar- is where you're able render only specific things on a laptops discreet GPU (vs. all or nothing). This makes it significantly easier (and power efficient) to use the GPU in practice.
There used to be something called bumblebee (which was actually more power efficient), but it became so slow that one could actually get better performance out of Intel's integrated GPU than that of the Nvidia GPU.
This feature is also already included in the nouveau graphics driver, but (at least to my understanding) it doesn't have very good (or none) support for Turing GPUs, so here I am.
Now, being very excited for this feature, I wanted to use it. I have Arch, so I installed the nvidia-beta drivers, and compiled xorg-server from master, because there are certain commits that are necessary to make use of this feature.
But after following the Nvidia instructions, it doesn't work. Oops I realize, xrog probably didn't pick up the Nvidia card, let's restart xorg. and boom! Xorg doesn't boot, because obviously the modesetting driver isn't meant for the Nvidia card it's meant for the Intel one, but xorg is to stupid for that...
So here I am back to using optimus-manager and the ordinary versions of Nvidia and xorg because of some crap...
If you have some (good idea) of what to do to make it work, I'm welcome to hear it.6
Since the last Windows Update broke my wife's laptop (the WiFi driver doesn't woro anymore) she's moving to Linux. I hope it goes well since she is a non-techi. I kinda am excited.
The biggest problem will be the lack of Adobe Illustrator. 😕14
Ubuntu 16 lts wifi drivers have problem and i am unable to fix this shit, everytime there's a new problem with ubuntu I hate ubuntu now for these many problems I'm not going to use it again.
If I didn't find any good linux distro I think I should switch to mac31
OS can’t install the network driver because the installer can’t see the network card, the installer can’t see the network cars because the driver isn’t installed.1
So today morning I got a driver related BSOD after which during restart, my pc went into windows update. Everything was going fine when power failed and it shut off. Now I am stuck with this...
Good thing I have linux in dual boot so work is getting done.
We are 1 week from first system demo of a down well seismic system. All the SW to run on the sensor nodes inside the well pipe has been developed with driver mockups since the FPGA team hasn't finished their part yet. So, integration, integration testing, system test and bug fix must be done in a hurry! Does this scenario sound familiar?3
I'm extremely sick of Windows PCs and their reliability, if it's not some stupid bug it's some idiotic overheat issue or driver issue or compatibility issue, I never hear Mac or Linux people complain about their PCs but I could write a book of complaints for Windows11
10 hour free trial it says.
Does that include the time it takes to download it ?
Just I'm reminded of another game that by the time I'd downloaded it, I had about 5 minutes to play it before the trial time was up..
Not that I got my 5 minutes oh no, because the video driver was out of date !2
Was using my Arch linux and made a usual -Syu update, and what a fuck: my mesa driver went crazy, sddm fucked up, and I couldn't load my favorite KDE!
Fortunately installed GNOME, and customized it a bit, but damn, miss my desktop
Gonna do all posible to repare this bug ASAP))8
// look at my previous rants
So keyboard is painted. But painting quality sucks (my first spray paint attempt) and looks ugly in some places. anyway. I think I'll repaint it maybe on summer, but for now I am done. I tired. Anyway, I added 5 rgb LEDs on the bottom for underglow (just for fun and exerciseing in programming) and rewired keyboard LEDs for controlling them from avr (in old XT keyboard is not allowed to control LEDs with computer). Last thing left. usb cable. And then assembly and firmware & rgb LEDs driver coding.2
Ever had a coworker who thinks you are his driver ? I mean it's cool that you want a ride and I'm willing to help but every single day ? I don't even like him2
My Phone crashed (22%) while I was trying to send a picture of my bluescreen. (Phone needs to be charged) - fuck. my. life.
Damn driver updates. Damn 5yo iPhone.
Installing the nvidia drivers on my linux machine is the bigges nightmare I've come across sofar. As soon as I have installed it and reboot, blackscreen and literally no way around it. Starting the desktop, nah stuck in a crashloop. Installing different driver, same issue. Using diffrent distro, that shit wont even boot properly. Uninstalling the driver seems to fix it but whats the point of running only on third gen i5 graphics. Shit cant even handle 1080p yt properly. And there are ppl saying if it aint broke dont fix it. FFS I DESPISE MAKING COMPROMISES WHEN I FUCKING KNOW IT CAN WORK BUT ATM IT IS NOT IN THE FREAKING MOOD TO DO SO!4
This is the worst possible thing that can happen, when you setup a new computer.
I live for about a decade on ubuntu. I got an invite for a LAN where games are being played that I cannot run with wine or are not ported to linux.
Fine I get an old harddrive and setup a fresh Windows 7. I have a little update script that takes care of updating and restarting.
BUT I CAN NOT DO ANY UPDATES.
As you can see in the picture the original Windows 7 installation disc that was part of my computer did not carry the matching NIC drivers.
A friend of mine gave me a spare WiFi dongle. That did not bring its drivers on the USB dongle but on disc that he lost.
WHY?! HOW?! This is not plug and play. This is a part that SHOULD be plug and play.
After I got an other WiFi dongle that was plug and play, I could finally download the right drivers.
Why can the Windows 7 disc that was part of the computer setup not contain the right drivers, but a ubuntu 12.04 live disc can?!
++ if you've ever had to type something along these lines:
do = some
stuff = here
if __name__ == '__main__':
trying to figure out the best way to write a driver script for a processing pipeline and the choices have boiled down to;
a) define "new" main functions where necessary
b) learn subprocess module
c) write a bash script to do it instead
still not sure what I'm going with...
I'm going to build a PC. Everything is done besides of the GPU.
I wanted to go full team red, but it turns out that the RX 5700 XT has a lot of driver issues.
I watched a hell lot of YouTube videos, benchmarks, forum posts, reddit, ...
Everyone is complaining about driver issues that haven't been fixed since the launch of the product.
That makes me want to go to team green and buy the NVIDIA 2070 SUPER GPU.
I post this as some sort of rant, but also as some sort of advice seeking post to double check my decision before I buy the 2070 SUPER.17
Thank to this UPS driver ... i'm not going to get my package (laptop screen) until Monday evening.
Express Priority shipping $35.xx or whatever that is down the drain.
Never had this issue with Fedex and 100's packages delivered.
This ends the rant.3
Bug from Win2k still affects Win10. ...hooray...
"max limit of 10 midi drivers? sure, okay. Except they don't disappear after removal, updating drivers and replugging a device into a different USB port both eat up another slot too."
fix: just go fuck with the registry and trim out the driver entries, you'll be fiiiiiiiine
fuck you too MicroPeni$
Ahem id like two superpowers please ,
Then first one would be to telepathically nerf down parasitic ideas instantly, I could actually be the next superman if I had this.. Could save a lot of lives in the developer realm.
The second one is the power to instantly fix any kernel / driver / boot problem and make everything compatible with Linux2
After 5 frustrating days, I have my laptop running again. Just in time for a data structures and algorithms exam.
TL;DR: driver issues aren't fun.
It all started on Friday, after the creators update. I was doing notes on lectures, and Windows crashed. I thought not much of it, it was just a "random" crash. I'd gotten a similar crash before, but I didn't think anything of it. This time was different, again it was my touchpad drivers that caused the issue, but this time a restart didn't work. I couldn't boot into Windows. I had to roll back to the last recovery point, effectively undoing the update.
This was fine, and fixed the issue, until Windows automatically updated my touchpad again, after me previously changing the driver. Another restart later and I couldn't boot. Time to roll back to recovery, right? Wrong. My drive had somehow, corrupt most of the Windows files.
And so, starts the journey of dismantling my laptop, changing the hard drive and putting it back together, a process that took 3 days due to not having the correct tools originally, and a late delivery.
(I could have rolled back to my backup system image, but that was before the creators update, and would have essentially postponed the issues I was having)
Finally, I managed to get Windows loaded from boot media (thankfully, they seem to tie your Windows licence to your account now) and am currently in the process of regaining all my lost files (which I have to pull from a system image, so it's a lot of digging through compressed files).
On a positive note, things are running well, and the faster hard drive (7200rpm vs 5400rpm) is a nice upgrade. And the touchpad drivers (the same one that kept crashing) haven't caused any problems since.
Now at least, I can get back to programming :D2
Feeling sleepy reading v4l2 documentation.
Opens devrant for a few minutes.
After 45 minutes of scrolling and commenting.
Shit, I need to get the driver working today.1
"Warning: install_driver.exe couldn't be copied." *clicks on ignore* "Driver successfully installed."... Windows, why have I expected exactly that? Occured while installing OnePlus smartphone drivers.1
p r i n t e r s
I was about to print a bigass document. Wanted to save paper, and saw my printer had a two side mode. I try it out. A few pages print, then the driver says PAUSED - RELOAD PAPER. This is normal, as double sided printing is not automatic. Underneath, there is a message:
[Printing - Manual Duplex: Please reinsert pap...]
I try to resize the window to read the message.
THE MOTHERFUCKING WINDOW WAS NOT RESIZEABLE!!!
are these products not fucking tested???
I find a guide saying the paper should be reinserted with no flips, then the "continue" button should be pressed.
The button was not in the driver UI, or on the printer. Further research showed that you are supposed to:
OPEN THE TONER CHANGE DOOR AND CLOSE IT AGAIN TO CONTINUE A PRINT
what fuCKING designer thought this shit through!?#@?#$!
What's the most efficient motor driver for a small DC motor that I want to run off a 5V source for aurdino?
I previously had a L293D and it was inefficient as fuck, it got so hot that almost burnt my finger, (ran it from a 12V supply) and it dropped a good 2 volts from power supply to motor.
Is there a good enough off the shelf driver or do I have to make a H-bridge myself using MOFSETs?6
Seriously fuck Microsoft. I'm not one of those entitled brats but Microsoft can't do anything right. Not even a fucking web page. Seriously what the fucking fuck is this shit? I'm trying to download this fucking driver and every where I look links me to this fucking page. This is just beyond lazy
I'm desperately looking through the console hoping to find this (probably) shitty drivers download link. So damn annoying12
My computer started crashing two days ago. Logs say its the audio driver. Now I wanted to start the diagnosis just for fun. Guess what? The conclusion of it was: You have a low volume level, we will increase it by 20%p... GOD DAMN. YOU HAD ONE JOB TO DETECT THE DRIVER IS OBVIOUSLY CORRUPTED (Reason: Unknown)1
Guys what are your thoughts on Pop!_OS by System 76? I'm thinking about switching, but I'm reluctant about it in fear of driver and stability issues.
Ok windows, my touch pad works perfectly fine without your synaptics driver fuckware. Why r u keep installing it automatically without my consent?1
I kinda missed the continuous struggle around the r8169 driver and Nvidia drivers. Thank god the Arch ISO has this problem too.
These two companies should be fined out of existence, there's no reason not to open source the driver, and this renders the product useless.5
Motherfucking windows 10 upgrades. Fucking hell no! They added that piece of shit that they sell as a browser again. Edge? More fucking end me. And why the fuck that shit have all permissions my default. Even those I don't want the OS to have.
But what's even worse...
THE FUCKING MOUSEPAD DRIVER DOESN'T SUPPORT MULTITOUCH AGAIN
I wish I had the time to finally configure get away Form these micro$uckers.3
just gave half a dozen of ideas to my teacher for my final year computer science project. and it all got pulled down 😑😑😤..... an automated home system, car driver alerter, a drone..but nop..8
Reverse engineering a USB device driver I already have the source for because apparently it runs on Donald Trumps hair magic.
Windows update screwed up the wireless driver, just when I need the Wi-Fi connection most. Perfect!1
I wish all apps would just stick to the monthly updates in the fashion of Linux kernel, Android, etc. Why the fuck does a mouse driver have to be updated every fucking week? Jesus Christ.3
What do we do when the WiFi dont work
What do we do when the WiFi don't work
What do we do when the WiFi don't work
On Ubuntu 18.10
Disable secure boot and sign your own driver
Disable secure boot and sign your own driver
Disable secure boot and sign your own driver
Build it from the source code2
I fucking love my SD card reader driver fucking up my whole system. How did that driver even pass BayHub's fucking QA, causing a bluescreen of death right during reboot of Windows? Anyways thanks Microsoft for that nice new bluescreen not telling me anything about the fucking problem why Windows just crashed. But at least it looks nice, so that it's more fun working all night and half a day to find the fucking problem myself. Fuck this.1
Oh come on MySQL driver, returning all values as strings? Really? It's like they went out of their way to be dumb.4
I mistakenly denied while installing virtualbox's driver install dialogue which was set to remember settings, now no option to clear fcking INF cache in windows 10.
Semi-remote job, sometime i need to meet people to make sure im not work with bot. Want to remote job because i wany to avoid crazy traffic jam, flood, ugly road and crazy driver every day. But still got full of payment like other who have fulltime on office.8
I love to work on my machine, and being it
my work-horse for school and side-projects, I have a neat dualboot of Windows 10 and (driver-related) Ubuntu Mate.
Ditched Mate because screen tearing, got Cinnamon, but I have to say, that W10 UI appeals a lot for me, so... what kind of Windows is this?4
Is connecting your aurdino and motors that it'll drive (through a motor driver of course) to the same battery bad for the aurdino?
I mean those are small DC brushed motors, will the noise/fluctuatuons they generate harm the aurdino in the long run?11
Can one of you help me?
I wanted to do a minimal Fedora install on my laptop, but the WiFi isn't working. The wifi-card uses the ath10k_PCI driver.
It works perfectly fine in the live-iso and the installer, but not in the minimal installation.6
There are so many viruses out there that claim to be automatic windows driver updaters that I'm beginning to wonder if legit ones exist at all! Anyone have any experience with the real deal?4
1. Make it so IT teams are only directly managed by people who know their shit about IT
2. Make nvidia opensourxe their linux driver, so we can have some real improvements
3. Make me able to rm -fr people and tasks from the command line.3
I just came home from opening of the fiscal year of a small drivers' club and it was quite an amazing life experience.
I got about a 5-times "rise" for a first, small, post-due-time project.
All of the members were so relaxed in one of the most serious moments of an association. We ate, drank beer and had as much fun as possible without break the law and other rules.
The story goes like this:
I was an intern in a website development company as students tend to do. In middle of the internship my teacher asked me if I'd be willing to develop a website to the before mentioned organization.
School will help with the money by being as a middle-man. It wasn't going to pay much, about 120€ or so, it's nothing really for the job, but I said yes for the experience. We organized a meeting, school provided the space, and went straight to the business.
The development went quite well: I got the final design requirements late (there weren't too much), research a lot about CMS:s, ended up with a beta version CMS (a risk), learned it, developed some plugins (not published yet), kept copyrights for most of the work and so on.
I was done _relatively_ quickly with the project and was quite happy with it. Only things still pressing my mind was bugs of the beta CMS, support for the plugins and my somewhat inexperienced graphical design.
Then it hit me, the world. Hosting, domain transfer, certificates, registry agreements. Arrgh. Most of things were fine, I know them. I had luck that I had a technical contact for the club. It would have been a nightmare of it's own otherwise.
We had problems transferring the domain, again, as you do. The other hosting company was to blame. They were the n00bs here. I went trough the law, technical guidance, etc. I was having heavy messaging with my technical contact about it, who was a middle-man for me and the hosting firms.
After a long while loop of waiting, reconfiguring, researching and messaging, until he transfer was finally over.
We had a long while of radio silence after some bug fixes. Until the Christmas came and I was invited to a Christmas party in a cottage, third Christmas party that year. It was great fun. We ate, drank, talked, went to sauna and had a playful adult stiga or sledging competition, etc.
I updated the site yet again, a stable version of the CMS were published. Yess!
Another radio silence came and year changed. It was broken off by a call to the opening of the fiscal year, the same day. This is today, or yesterday by now. This was just after my current company's board game night. I was really busy that day. A whole afternoon of second-hand shopping around the city with a bike. I counted 35 kilometers. Yes I go by bike, don't own a car or have an driving license... Yet.
I wasn't horribly late, around 30 minutes. I started eating and drinking. Free food and beer! They was also late, they should've got trough the business before I got there, before eating. So I ate and listened. Learned more about having business or an association in general. Until my matter came to be heard. They thanked me of the co-operation and made public the change of my reward sum, I WAS GRANTED 500€ REWARD for the work. It's still not an amazing sum in a larger point of view, but I can imagine that it's big deal for a small non-profit organization, which was loosing money. Everybody applauded, every 25 members of the club. I was greatly pleased. I will have to update their site a bit still, but they are going to pay the reward ASAP.
Did I mention that the school works around the taxes, legally. Taxes for the reward, if it were assumed as a wage would be 15%, for me, at the worst case scenario, only for getting the money to my hands.
I was offered another gig at the event, but didn't promise anything yet. I left before sauna, so we didn't get to change contact details. He will find a way to reach me if he really wants so. I'm a busy free man.3
That feeling when you insert the driver disk for a wireless adapter to find they actually do provide Linux drivers!!!!!
Nobody ever provides Linux drivers, this is a god send! Thank you!
That feeling when they don't compile correctly! Damn you! ASUS pls. Halp. You're so close to being amazing.
INFO/WARNING: Some HP audio drivers for certain HP laptops have "integrated keyloggers" enabled. The audio driver would log your keystrokes to look for special keys and saves them to a public folder on your PC (Windows).
I really wonder what kind of total retards decide to implenent features in this way.
Installed on my 2x 980 TI SLI the newest Nvidia Driver 384.76.
Played games on it and some Video Editing. Noticed that I have bad laggs and checked clocks.
Wow clocks were locked at half the max Output. Checked if I can do anything to increase it, nope it's locked at half the Performance.
Tried to install previous Driver, install failed. Went 2 Drivers back and installed the 382.33.
Everything worked again.
WTF are the guys at NVIDIA coding while being drunk?? How the fuck can you lock the powertarget of the GPU at half the Performance and after 4 days not releasing a hotfix? Are they testing this shit even or forcing it into production?
Currently NVIDIA has really crappy drivers and with every update it gets even worse.
And the only option you got is GPU's from NVIDIA and AMD. And Vega is not even released yet.
Hope that AMD will beat the shit out of NVIDIA...5
Motherf*ing broadcom and thair sh*tty wlan adapters with 0 comaptibility so you have do download drivers witch you CANT because you have no FRIGGING wifi. *Downloads drivers from another pc*
Mak install ERROR this variable is not set when initiated. WHAT??? Yo are a sotware company and cant even make Installers what the f*ck1
Most interesting bug caused - created printer driver for vietnamese diacritical marks for old matrix printer without VN support by switching to graphics mode and plotting the dots and dashes. Print speed reduced about 200x and printer shook itself to pieces by rotating the cylinder back and forth. Oh well... Ended up buying two new laser printers instead.1
const topic = 'Laravel'
const subtopic = 'Queues'
Have you used Redis? Have you used it as your Queue driver? Is it cool? Are there better alternatives?5
Finally managed to install nvidia driver on my ubuntu laptop after a couple of fucked up resulting in me formatting the ubuntu partition. Im sure there are solutions which didnt require reinstalling the OS but I gave up trying after wasting about hours tinkering with the installation, and restarting into blank screen.
Now that I can work and play dota on ubuntu, Im ready to get rid of the windows 10 dualboot2
Okay, I have to ask it here, because I don't know how to ask on SO so I don't get banned.
I have a user mode driver (a dll and an inf file). How do I load it (aka call DllMain)? Do I have to install it first so it shows up in device manager? How do I load it then? No, there is no physical hardware involved, it's all software.
I've been searching for an answer for days, but when to comes to driver development, I'm such a noob that I don't even know what to look for.9
Just moved my computer up to my new office... just to find that I'm suddenly having a driver issue (I think) that wasn't there before.
Basically my audio and mouse pointer hang for 1/10 of a second every few seconds.
The bad news is, it seems to disappear when I disable my wifi card, which I kinda need for my internet.. and I already have the latest drivers.8
I'm currently developing a retro console powered by pico-8 that I'll be putting in front of the co-driver in my car :) Oh and I'll 3d print a handheld version as well.8
Am I the only one that feels like the Linux sound driver (alsa) have a more clean sound than the windows drivers? I'm a pianist (at least I'm playing the piano in my free time 😜) and I feel more comfortable with the sound on my Linux. (I use the same physical piano modeling software on both systems)2
Archbang, Archlabs or Manjaro?
I am interested in using i3 as my wm. And because I will install it in my daily driver laptop, I want it to be reasonably stable and not with breaking updates.
Any thoughts and / or recommendations?11
Been spending the past two days setting up linux on my new work laptop which happens to have a hybrid nvidia GPU, in addition to requiring a usermade driver to get the docking station working. Both the (proprietary!) nvidia driver and displaylink driver demanded to rebuild the kernel, and the nvidia ones crashed during it.
I had no idea it could be this much of a hassle. Had I bought it myself I would have taken it back. Never buying a laptop with a discrete GPU ever again. Sweet butts.
Anyone tried to create your own x window manager and/or screen driver? Can't find enough useful information on the internet.6
Just tried to Setup my elementary os on my Home pc..
The Shit wont work!! Damn!
No WiFi connection! I tried everything.. i think there is a Problem with my Driver.. I was so desperated that i created a Mobile Hotspot, it worked, I run apt get Update and Upgrade , this Shit used over 100mb of my Internet volume.. then i tried the Shit again ... Connect to my WiFi at Home... And it... Doesn't work... Shit!18
Fucking windows update.. after the spring update the mobile driver is broken or somehow it doesn't recognized my mobile. Fucking cunts.1
Stupid Windows Update back at it again with the Fall Creator's Update. More like Fail Creator's Update. My poor laptop took it too hard and the built-in mobile hotspot feature is currently bugged and not working, with the ICS service in task manager stuck at 100% you usage. Restore to previous version or not to restore to previous version? That my friends is the question. *picks up Ubuntu 17.10 live disk*2
"Success! One more step to go. Please restart your computer before you start Visual Studio Community 2017."
Why the ... what the flying ... what the fuck did you install that requires a fucking reboot? Did you install the compiler in my fucking graphics driver for accelerated build times? What year is this, and why does Windows want to reboot like a fucking superhero franchise?!
Fuck you, Nvidia! Can't even watch a film in the fullscreen mode without image flicks. Why should I ever care about this bare shit in 2016? It's your task to support your crappy proprietary driver. Nouveau is even worse.5
Going to sound sarcastic but for once I'm not...
It's hard to really appreciate how set and forget Linux distro's actually are, I have no internet at the moment and have to use a USB wi-fi dongle, windows rerquires I install a driver yet and so does a USB-C cable (Don't ask why a fucking cable needs a driver to transmit power but hey), I connect both up to my Linux install (Elementary OS) and boom, straight out the box they both work perfectly .-.6
Nvidia's drivers for Linux are absolute dog shit. Like how difficult is it to make something functional? I only have 2 monitors connected but the second one is causing the driver to crash, wtf.8
I use Linux on my second HDD and on my Notebook but I have been thinking about switching completely to Linux. The only thing holding me back is gaming... I have a HDD with Windows on it just for gaming. I know about wine but I wonder if I can install my amd graphics card driver easily on Linux.
Does anyone know about some good articles or does anyone have any good tips?10
I have a Surface 3 for home dev stuff. I wanted to get back into C++ for graphic/GPU programming. However it uses an Intel Graphics 5000 chipset so I can't do CUDA and the Intel Media Server can't upgrade the graphics driver because it's a Surface.
What should I do? I would rather not build a system just to play.5
Saving asses since like forever.
Those who understand know what I am saying.3
During the interview, I told them they can put a device to track driver behaviors and offer customized insurance plan based on the data. They laughed at the idea. Nope, not the right company I think.3
Install Linux they said, it's better than a blue screen windows they said, THERE IS NO LINUX DRIVER OR NDISWRAP SUPPORT FOR MY WIFI ADAPTER I'M BASICALLY IN THE SAME BLOODY SPOT BUT WITH A PRETTIER TERMINAL! The reason for getting a blue screen in the first place was a bloody fucked up wifi driver!!!! I both love and hate you guys7
Thanks to @nik123 I know have a new side project: creating an fs (or fuse) driver that hides bad blocks on block devices and makes them usable again.2
Why does it have to be so incredibly hard to get an nvidia card to work under Linux? The driver is in available, we have the technology but every time I try to get this damned thing to work I end up in front of a fucked XServer and this stupid "Something went wrong" gdm screen only to apt-purge nvidia from my drive and start from the beginning once more.6
today started as a great sunny day. but really my nightmare began a couple of nights ago. i installed gnome on linux by accident, all i wanted to do was create a desktop link to a webapp in my files. Since then, I have been offered updates by ubuntu. well today i couldnt pass up the offer. and after the update my broadcom driver stopped working. has anyone dealt with the bullshit that is broadcom on linux?! i wanted to reset the connection so i click to stop using the driver. window comes up says its out of date. now the driver has completely disappeared! wtf!!! now i need a dark wizard and to sacrifize my first born to get internet on my baby back.... fuuuuuuuu
plz help if you know..
stuck at work so wont be able to try till tonight. anxiety is real6
Why do people use Ubuntu when there is Elementary. Elementary is easier to use and have a working wifi driver for default.4
So I know it's possible to run a lot of things from the terminal. Does anyone run their daily driver exclusively on a terminal? Just curious.3
My team decided to do a MOB programming in one of our tickets.
New joiner: Perfect we did a mob yesterday .
Me: Great, that's good. How did it go?
New joiner: Well, we work together in the gaming room next to each other and trying to solve the issue. I think it's very productive.
Me: Awesome! Let's do it again today... When we started the MOB, all of them are using their own laptop. And I was like.. so, this is how you did the MOB yesterday?
New guy: Yes.
Me: This is not a MOB programming... MOB programming uses only 1 screen, 1 driver and everyone work together, will tell the driver what to do, we need to exchange the driver every 10 to 15 minutes, everyone can be a driver. (devs, qa, ux, product) and do a retro after.
New guy: ah.. wow! Interesting.3
I understand the desire people have to use an open source driver for their graphics card, but it feels like that's not the only reason people seem averse to using nvidia's closed-source driver on linux. I have used it for years, and never had a problem, and though I have an admittedly specific use scope, I would like to know what it is that people dislike about it. What problems do you have with it?3
A doctor heals, a gardener plants, a baker makes some bread, a driver brings you to a location, only IT is nonsense in the most use cases.
Maybe I will switch one day to another and more useful job which makes more sense7
Another day another unsuccessfull Nvidia driver installation on Linux. FFS GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER NVIDIA.3
This screenshot is from when i first installed Ubuntu, i think 2 years ago.
I though well I'm not gonna be using it much, why bother giving it more than 30 gigs?
I instantly fell in love and this became my daily driver. Within 2 weeks this happened. So I did what any sane person would do. Deleted windows partition to make space for this lil fella. (I didn't have much hdd space)
I am a proud man4
"Google driver not working"-QA tester. First thing in the morning, i read and i was laughing like hell. From where can i get google driver and ask him to work😂😂
Can anyone recommend a good OSS NVIDIA driver?
Was using nouveau but didn't realise how out of date it was, currently using the proprietary NVIDIA driver and it's really causing some havoc20
Java with it's new DriverManager, but I'm still sitting here and using Class.forName() 'cause the new fancy DriverManger can not fu***ng find the damn driver! 😡😠🤷4
Differences between Arduino Nanos.
I have 3 Nanos, 2 MCU, and 1 AU and I can't find information about the differences...
Arduino store only sells one nano, but I know that MCU and AU are different packages.
Besides the different architecture and look, I can't find information or something that I could see the difference...

FINALLY: my Windows 10 sound has been fixed
Go to Device Manager, select audio device, then properties, driver, yes every 10 year old knows this I know, what I didn't know is that you can select to look for a driver on this computer and not have to have downloaded one, but it shows you a list of drivers, including Realtek's signed ones.
Rant still stands though, why was this setting randomly changed by some update to use a different driver and why isn't it obvious to find this one.1
Thanks Windows 10 April update:
i'm not even mad for using my network on high priority when you were downloading the update or taking 1 freaking hour of my working time to finish the updates just to add spam to my lockscreen and an uglier task view but if you could please at least not f**k up all my Wifi, bluetooth and video driver it would be great!
Still having problem with bluetooth connection and i re-installed drivers several times!
Installing a TP-Link wifi adapter driver on Linux is messed up. First we have to compile the files ourselves, then the outdated documentation points to a stale github repo with minimal instructions and bugs in it. Cant believe that i spent 3 hrs trying to install a stupid wifi adapter driver.
TRYING, yes, TRYING.
Btw I'm referring to the archer TP-link T2U v11
Common question I hear at work a lot. These self driving cars, picture the situation. It's driving 100mph+ going straight towards a pack of children(could be anyone but this sounds a bit more terrifying). The car can only turn into a brick wall, killing the driver and passengers, OR straight into the children.
What do you program it to do in these situations???5
wrong display resolution on my laptop
removed display drivers, reboot to disable driver signing, wanna install fixed resolution drivers, now its the correct one by it selfe...
why did i wrot that inf file?
I am using a Raspberry Pi with CUPS and a USB to LPT adapter to enable one of my customers to still print on an old HP DesignJet.
HP dropped support for this printer with Windows 7. Of course the generic HP PS driver with Windows 10 works - but only via CUPS not directly from Windows. Windows claims that the printer is not compatible.
What's wrong with this world?1
It's about my freaking PC, again...
(If you still don't know what I'm talking about: https://devrant.io/rants/889384/ )
I have not ranted about this until now because I was trying to fix it on my own... but since I'm now desperate to get it fixed, I'll say it here too... please help me, I'll give you cookies or virtual hugs or something ;-;
The problem is... my audio driver doesn't work. I tried to update it (from Realtek's website), but... after installing the new version of the driver, it asks me to restart my PC, I do that, and then... nothing happens, the problem remains.
The audio icon on Windows' application bar says no audio devices are connected, which isn't true as it should notice the PC's native speakers, or my headphones, but it freaking doesn't.
As a musician, this for me is a problem...14
Urgh... No exceptions in Rust annoys me. Now you only have the choice between "this didn't work please handle this error, thank you ^-^" and "you fool, prepare for annihilation". So basically if anything remotely serious happens your programs dead and there's nothing you can do about it. I don't get why people have this hate for exceptions. Everytime a new language gets made it's always either "ew it has exceptions" or "it's so nice it doesn't even have exceptions". NOOO! They can deal with serious situations in the best possible way and they can be statically checked (so no "but they're so complex and unpredicable" stuff please). If you can expect an exception they shouldn't be used in the first place (eventhough they are absolutely no less good than Option returntypes or whatever, just different) but in cases when it's impossible to predict an error they really shine. And not having them makes your language worse. If a device driver accesses illegal memory it should throw an exception, so instead of the computer shitting the bed, first the offending function has a chance to resolve the problem at it's root, then a few functions up the call stack, the general control functions of the device drivers can handle it and restart the operation if applicable, and even if the driver fails to handle it, the OS can jump in and restart the driver, log an error and do whatever. It's absolutely beautiful: This hierarchical ramp from near the accident site to more high level operations code ensures the error can be caught at the right level of abstraction without introduction a lot of boilerplate. If everything fails and nobody can handle it *then* the program or kernel or whatever can panic.6
I wonder if Orchardcms with its great idea to replace the mvc pattern with an mpvchds pattern (model part view controller handler driver shape) should inject dependencies of IHateble, IBullShitService and IFuckingFuckshitCMS Interfaces.
Tech lead on three projects last year, a Java hard client, a WDF driver, and the front/backend of a NodeJS app.
I'm sick of jumping across all these paradigms and technologies.
Does anyone else have to deal with this.1
The moment when your client gives you a Pi Zero and 4 IR transceivers, tells you it worked on Arduino now writes them a driver that bit-bangs them into 4 TTYs.4
laptop suggestions please:
- 13-14 inch screen
- min 8 gb ram (preferably 16)
- 128 gb storage
- i5 or i7
- 1200 x 800 resolution
- can run linux (no driver issues)
- can run flutter, android studio, and emulator
- $500 or less6
Don't troubleshoot over my shoulder.
Don't point at the screen over my shoulder.
Don't suggest the troubleshooting step I'm currently on, while pointing at the screen and whispering over my shoulder.
Don't think out loud as you are troubleshooting over my shoulder.
Has anyone experience with putting Linux on a asus e200ha Netbook? Want to get rid of Windows but I'm concerned about driver availability and battery life.1
So I'm thinking of buying a used iPhone 5s for around $100. Obviously i don't intend to use it as daily driver but for a specific purpose and also try ios app development.
Is $100 for a used iPhone 5s fully working along with charger a good deal?1
Looking for a driver updater that will allow me to update without a "you'll need the pro version to download and install drivers" and allow me to do all drivers instead of 1 or 2 a day.
Fuck you Nvidia for breaking my xorg. It's not normal for an official driver to stop working after a routine upgrade on a distro like Debian...
Any suggested fix? Purging and reinstalling didn't help. Use noveau and wait for next version?3
Just bought a Chromebook Pixel. Love the hardware - Chromebooks in general are a great way to get a Linux laptop with guaranteed driver support.
But why is it still so hard to get decent HiDPI support in Linux (or for that matter Windows) desktop environments?
I realise Apple had an advantage in using vector-based Display Postscript, but massively divergent screen sizes and resolutions have been around for YEARS now, so why is it still such a faff?1
trying to rewrite a ti-8x calculator sound driver to be actually decent but i can't make music with it as i have no artistic cells in my body
my body has trillions of cells and not a one can figure out more than oscillation or transposing a song using shitty online guitar tabs2
Bought a new Small Netbook recently.
Wanted to install Linux, because Yeah, working with Linux All the time and I'm " in love" with it ;)
But ... it's not working properly.. No Sound, some keys aren't supported and some other Shit that arent working as expected.
Shit. Tried everything, multiple times, the Hardware is not really compatible with Linux. Damn, this is the only shit about Linux..
Yeah, I'm now so desperated, that I've Just installed Windows 10.
My only hope - the new bash/Power Shell. Does anybody has made some (good) experience with it?9
Printer shit continued: So we got this great Lenovo Ideapad with a Windows, so why not print from there? Installed driver from webpage and really printed nicely.
Then I removed ton of Lenovo's crapware + McAfee (leftovers luckily were cleaned by McAfee's tool), so that this shitty device could be used reasonably - device would deserve rants on its own. AND boom, Windows USB printer driver seems broken beyond repair. Printer not even recognized. Shouldn't it all be plug'n'play?5
For some reason I thought it is nice to work from home and finishing my driver after working hours, until kernel panic reboot kernel panic reboot kernel panic re.... Lucky me I found someone in the office pull out the power. Lesson learned, nerver work remote if you might need to physically reboot the your device.1
Who uses the Virtual Serial Port Driver (http://virtual-serial-port.org) to create virtual ports?
Who has any analogs?1
Spent the whole day trying to get php driver for mongoDB to work.. made a php script that connects to remote db, the connection kept returning null/false no matter what i did.. in the end i uncommented a code below that fetches data with the "null" connection and suddenly I see data printed out 😐 well f you too very much 😡
Tomorrow I'll finally play with mongo 😊 i hope it won't be too much of a pain with php2
Advice on great hardware for Linux kernel? I'm going to get myself a new laptop, my current one gave me great headaches due to the Realtek network card (no jeffing driver). I'd like to avoid this sort of things this time around: what should I get/avoid?2
So I miss my job to go to the local traffic department to check my driver license and their system is out. (boss will fuck me)
Then I see they have 5 brand new Windows powered HP machines you can use to check your processes and stuff. The Internet is blocked, but strangely no one bothered that user has administrative rights.
Cmd and Explorer in the screen are in admin mode2
Erry day I'm tetherin'
Because the fucking WiFi driver gives up on life every 3 months, repairing takes about a month everywhere and I have 3 devices, so there's not a whole week that I can spend without usb tethering from my phone.
Ram drives are a very good and useful thing why has no one made a nice ram drive caddy using laptop ram, the speeds on the older ram and drives out do any drive on the market and the unit is not a lot to make, I happy to put some old DDR 2 ram a new life as a USB ram drive using as a page or swop drive or Live CD Drive.
Or am I missing something and they really hiding somewhere, the ram drives I seen are stupid price and offer functions we don't need or aimed at big server companies but this would really help privacy, or better still anyone know if we can make some kind of ram drive with maybe a maker board and laptop ram ?1
*tried to install latest intel GPU driver on a notebook*
Intel: this driver isn't design for your system please contact your device manufacturer
*Check again the compatibility list ... The CPU is present*
Me: okay, let's try this one, using display driver uninstaller to clean the old driver, reboot and launch the new one.
Intel: This program will install the new component graphic driver Intel®
Me: Well ... I guess I win this time ?
Still don't know why the previous one seems to block any installation of I don't manually clean it.
My previous version doesn't seems to be specific to anything ...2
I recently started working on laravel. As the community says it was easy to get along with the framework and its methodologies. But then i had to do multiple login with framework in same domain.
Oh man, i spent a week to make it work. All those guards and middlewares realted to login was driving me crazy. The concept was clear, but somehow the framework was like "You! I shall make you spend a week for my satisfaction". The project demo was nearing and i was doing all kind of stuff i found. Atlast after continous tries it worked. Never in my 4+ years as a developer i had to face such an issue with login.
So here is how it works,if anyone faces the same issue:
(This case is beneficial if you're using table structures different from default laravel auth table structures)
1. Define the guards for each in auth.php
'users' => [
'driver' => 'session',
'provider' => 'users',
'client' => [
'driver' => 'session',
'provider' => 'client',
'admin' => [
'driver' => 'session',
'provider' => 'admins',
2. Define providers for each guards in auth.php
'users' => [
'driver' => 'eloquent',
'model' => <Model Namespace>::class,
'table' => '<table name>', //Optional. You can define it in the model also
'admins' => [
'driver' => 'eloquent',
'model' => <Model Namespace>::class,
'client' => [
'driver' => 'eloquent',
'model' => <Model Namespace>::class,
Similarly you can define passwords for resetting passwords in auth.php
3. Edit login controller in app/Http/Controller/Auth folder accordingly
a. Usually this particular line of code is used for authentication
Auth::guard('<guard name>')->attempt(['email' => $request->email, 'password' => $request->password]);
b. If above mentioned method doesn't work, You can directly login using login method
$user = <model namespace>::where([
'username' => $request->username,
'password' => md5($request->password),
4. If you're using custom build table to store user details, then you should adjust the model for that particular table accordingly. NOTE: The model extends Authenticatable
class <model name> extends Authenticatable
protected $table = "<table name>";
protected $guard = '<guard name>';
protected $fillable = [
'name' , 'username' , 'email' , 'password'
protected $hidden = [
//Below changes are optional, according to your need
public $timestamps = false;
const CREATED_AT = 'created_time';
const UPDATED_AT = 'updated_time';
//To get your custom id field, in this case username
public function getId()
5. Create login views according to the user types you required
6. Update the RedirectIfAuthenticated middleware for auth redirections after login
7. Make sure to not use the default laravel Auth routes. This may cause some inconsistancy in workflow
The laravel version which i worked on and the solution is for is Laravel 6.x1
what makes a evening better? bluescreen and a automatic driver error scan after reboot... but no problem at the moment, luckily
I've been wanting to play with and do some development on Linux again. However, my only spare computer is an old Asus netbook. Has anyone loaded Linux on any of those $150 to $200 mini PCs you can find on Amazon? Do they work well and have driver support? I was thinking it would make a good little machine to just have on my desk.1
Which is better; Ubuntu or Fedora? I'm debating moving to Fedora as a daily driver but information online is a bit all over the place.6
It's funny that I still somehow think that windows can do anything but crash itself at this point, so I'm playing an fps, and get an error message that complains about driver failure, so I go to device manager and try to update nvidia drivers, windows as always says that my driver is the newest available, so I check the nvidia website, newest version released literally last Tuesday so I think to check device manager again, date of nvidia newest driver: 05/03/2019, date of windows' "newest" driver's install: 13/08/2018... glad to know that windows keeps my computer up to date.1
EMT / Paramecdic. It won't even be such a change since I'm already volunteering at the red cross and spending about 24 hours per week in as an EMT/ ambulance driver (as an addition to my 9-5 job)
This monrning on a commuter train down here Frankfurt Main area, the driver did announce, the train will makte to more stop, take rest and a reset....
Did You switch it off and on again today?1
Does anybody use SomaFm as their daily driver? It's an online curated radio service. They have a very interesting list of channels and each channel is curated. They have channels from metal to alt rock to electronica to trance to folk.
I have recently discovered them and loving it. Clementine has SomaFM in its list of internet services. That's how I discovered them.2
I still a memory, i was to install a distro of linux and got zorin, the installation perfect but not connect to internet cause the driver to red card not found, i search in my smartphone and say the apt-get needs internet to download, yes my life is a circle.
Why can't windows just use 'uptime' to show how long the site has been up rather than having to fucking waiting for 'systeminfo' to load.... I'm considering switching over to Linux in the new year, or just buy a new laptop and put Linux on it and use it as my daily driver.4
