These guys were studying for a Java exam...from PRINTED OUT PHONE PICTURES OF CODE ON THEIR SCREENS29
-
I wonder when there will be the first manufacturer to introduce the "cool" new notch design to normal screens. 🤔27
-
We have a lot of monitoring screens on walls at my work... Some of them show charts... The one showing the last two months of mailbox database growth has started taking an odd shape.16
-
Well guess what, I was coding with a friend of mine in a café .The waiter took our orders ..glanced at our screens( We were using Linux terminals ..fucking npm I swear) and then a few minutes later the manager comes up and says - ”Sorry ,but I am gonna have to ask you guys to leave " ..We were like wtf man ? Well apparently the staff felt that we were hacking using their WiFi .. God fucking dammit..typing on terminals is not Hacking .14

Pain the ass sales guy walks into my office uninvited. Looks at one of my screens which has sftp copying a lot of files and spewing out each one. He asks what that "nonsense" is.
I politely tell him that it is all his sales data and I am deleting it. At which point I got up and went to lunch with no further discussion.
The next phone call I received was from my boss asking me to stop fucking with the sales people. I hope he learned to knock after this.5 -
My boss has a camera in the office for "security" reasons and I happen to be just right under it, exposing my computer screens to it. So I wrote a script that sends me an email whenever the camera port is accessed.14

A very sad side effect from my new job.
When I get home, I can't bear sitting behind a screen for longer than an hour or two.
I really want to keep on programming at home but I just can't put myself to it after work anymore :'(.
I actually feel pretty sad about it 😭24 -
I see people posting setups so I will share mine. three 27" Asus monitors. left for viewing site, mid for code, right for db :)13

A few weeks ago on a trip to Boston:
"Well lets use nine large screens to display this awesome Exception properly" ;-)7 -
It's such a lovely day, sun is shining, think I'll sit outside with my laptop and a beer and continue working on personal project.
(...goes outside)
It's too bright, can't see shit, plus working on two screens is easier
(goes back inside) -
This month's expenses:
- Computer parts to build a new computer.
- Separate video card.
- Hex monitor stand.
- 6 (second hand) monitors
I'm so sorry for my bank account 😥24 -
Everyone's posting their PC's for wk119, but I thought I could do better.. think different, so to say :P
My electronics workbench.. cleaned up, I promise! Just that there's so much stuff that I have no idea where else to place it :')
And I wish I could post this BEFORE WanBLowS decided to shit itself again with one of those goddamn fucking Blue Screens of Dicksucking Shaftsystem! At least devRant UWP from @JS96 has the dignity to save the post just in case its host craps itself all over.. FUCK!!!
.. Anyway, high resolution counterpart of the image here: https://i.imgur.com/ZrJmMe0.jpg25 -
Me, doing QA
PM: "stop submitting bug reports about screen size, we're only supporting one resolution for now"
Me: *What do you mean you're only supporting one resolution it's a website and it breaks on screens <1400 px tall*
*Sigh*
"okay, what resolution?"
PM: "No one knows"
Me: *dies*2 -
This dude is using 4 screens for work. When I asked for another screen at work,
I can't convince my boss for 2, FML
To the dude who got 4 screens, congratulations, and sorry I used your image without permission. BTW
You lucky bastard13 -
"New revolutionary technology, ai powered smartphone, 720° camera, 8 screens"
Cool
Can i have 2 days battery life instead?11 -
I have 2 screens @ my desk with my back facing manager's room. Whenever he opens his door, he can see my second screen.
Thinking of a side project based on webcam that will auto open visual studio upon seeing him. Any leads would be appreciated. 😊15 -
My lead developer left on vacation for a week. Without notice to my boss and/or myself.
Well to be fair we did have the minimum which is a 2 day notice....
So what did we do? Well the boss and I acted like absolute adults and did what any other adult would do.
Me sticky noted the fuck out of his desk and screens.
4 screens full of sticky notes.
Phone is full of sticky notes too. And geez man....everything is sticky notes....so...many....sitcky...notes9 -
At the risk of getting people butthurt.
Why do you all have to post linux-installation screens?
*Look at me, I'm installing linux, I'm in the elite, I'm so special*
I'm sorry snowflakes, but you don't see people posting images about installing Windows and being like 'I'm so special'.14 -
5 screens... 3 monitors, main screen, app connecting my iPad Pro screen. now I can be productive and distracted without having to change tabs...15
-
When did “responsive“ web design become synonymous with “huge f*cking images, big ass captions and needing to scroll vertically forever“?!
Although sites like that may look good on tiny mobile screens, on desktop screens they are just freaking me out. I am not blind, nor am I too stupid a visitor to handle denser paragraphs of text in a more sophisticated kind of layout! Geez...8 -
Linux is great they said
Linux works well they said
Linux is totally awesome they said

4 live cds
(Ubuntu, mint, Debian, Antergos)
3 wouldn’t boot beyond splash screens or even into setup.
no fucking keyboard
No fucking wifi
No fucking trackpad
Now I’m sitting here with Antergos, with a USB keyboard, USB mouse and an ethernet cable plugged into my laptop 🤷♂️
Good news... I think I might be getting through the hard parts26 -
Christmas came early for my coworker. He wanted 6 monitors, IT is giving him three Samsungs in portrait.4
-
Got my VisionTek Radeon 7750 today! Held my breath during the amd drivers installation on Linux (KDE Neon) but it all went well.
Rebooted, all screens (4 right now? upgrading to 6 soon) black.
Closed eyes, opened after 10 seconds and BAM, first display is working.
After some settings tweaking I've got 4 monitors up and running now, waiting for new hardware for two more.
Also waiting for a hex monitor stand ❤.
AMD, thanks for providing stable and working drivers for Linux for free!11 -
HW issue causing blue screens? Windows' fault.
Driver bug? Windows' fault.
A program crashing? Windows' fault.
"Forced" updates you could've turned off? Windows' fault.
You have no common sense? Windows' fault.
Your girlfriend leaving you? Windows' fault.
Let's blame Windows because I got nothing else to blame.28 -
I’ve finally gotten a desktop for work. So I don’t have to use my own mbp.
I think I’ve got enough screens, for now.
What annoys me is that none of them are same type, size or brightness12 -
Got the iPod and music synchronisation isn't working well with Linux (I've synced quite some iProducts and it always goes great so this is a new one for me).
Bought a windows pc a few days ago and haven't installed Linux onto it yet so booted it up, installed Firefox and then downloaded iTunes.
Nearly done with installing when an error message pops up and the entire fucker blue-screens. Now it doesn't boot anymore 😡
Go die in a fucking corner, windows.10 -
I work in a computer repair shop. A COMPUTER repair shop. And every day, I get asked "Do you repair phone screens?" No. No, I do not. Stop asking!11
-
Does anyone else hate the screens after you're done updating Windows 10. "Hi, we've updated your computer"
Like no shit Windows I just spent 4 hours waiting for you to finish updating and 5 restarts later.8 -
My Galaxy S7 Edge fell onto the gravel road as I was getting out of my car and the screen shattered into tons of small cracks!! Just a few days before I was gonna sell it to somebody for the same price I bought it for! 😫
FUUUUUCCCKKK 😡18 -
My biggest hurdle was finding a way to go from my old 1400*900 screens to 1080p
Needles to say i finally was able to upgrade after years14 -
Since my coworker is on holiday and our desks are next to each other, I took his spot for this week and connected my secondary monitor to his setup
Four screens this week :D2 -
Well here is my new setup.
Left and center screens are connected to one laptop. Where I run my editors and terminals.
Rightmost is connected to another old laptop. This is for browsing and slack.
Using synergy to share mouse and keyboard.
What do you think of this setup? Any better way to do this?18 -
I've uncovered the complot.
I clearly remember buying my first monitor, it was 15 inch, 1024x768. Then I went to a 19 inch 1680x1050 one, then 24 inch 1080p, then 27 inch 1440p...
Now I used two 32 inch 4K screens at work... and I come home, and the three 27 inch screens look a bit smallish, with the old 24 inch one being absolutely tiny on my desk.
It wasn't that tiny when I still owned the 15 inch screen? And my 5.5 inch phone doesn't feel as big as when I bought it either?
So the complot... All monitors slowly shrink over time, and they start shrinking faster when new monitors are brought into the household.6 -
I have a certain condition with my eyes which i can compensate with glasses with prisms in it. Due to these prisms, all glowing colors become displaced in height. When i look on editors with syntax highlighting enabled, red is two millimeters behind the screen, green 4mm in front, blue 2mm in front, and gray exactly on 0. This is amazing, and sometimes is just watch this and wonder when holographic screens are becoming a thing. Id really wish for you to see somerhing like this.13
-
Inspired by "Standup comedy on spreadsheet" created the following in python ft MrRobot 😉. The zoomed in vs the zoomed out pic. Thus screens are just a spreadsheet of rgb colors.. 😃3
-
New dev couldn't get his laptop set up and screens working. After a day struggling I walked over and recommend he plug in the power cord......3
-
I just saw this picture on the product page of a Thunderbolt dock. I'm not sure what this guy is doing, but no programmer of the world would mirror his laptop screen on two full size screens. Just no!11
-
Whoever invented glossy screens for laptops should be shot! I can't get in the zone for coding while staring into a freaking mirror!!5
-
2 extra screens on the go for a laptop?
Seems a little bulky.
but for $400 I'm not sure if the price is right.11 -
Just a 60 year old teachers desk and some awesome screens....MacBook pro with 3 external for work with a gaming rig when 5.30 rolls around....5
-
Was it it with clients and wanting to restrict the height of webpages?
Client: Can you make it all fit on the screen?
Me: What this particular screen?
Client: Well all screens, some people might not realise there is more content.
Me: What if the screen is tiny?
Client: make it smaller
Me: What if you add more content to it?
Client: Hmm, your the developer.
Me: Teeny tiny text coming right up.18 -
at the game jam afterparty everyone where trying to speak with my husband, instead of me. I saw human version of blue screens when was asked to list my project team and I didn't mention him.
- A-a-and what did Rik do?
- Oh, he didn't participate, he's a journalist and my +1 here. 😅3 -
Getting closer and closer to my dream setup!
What I want: powerful enough computer for some general gaming + IDE + shitloads of terminals with 6 screens running a Linux distro.
What I have: powerful enough computer which can run quite some games and handle my IDE + shitloads of terminals. Runs Linux already but still have to order 3 screens.
Nearly there 💜11 -
You'd think that with OLED screens becoming the norm for smartphones people would start offering dark themes in their apps to save a bit of battery and prevent burn-ins, but NOPE there comes Google with their material design and everything is suddenly brighter than the sun, especially YouTube where 3/4th of the screen is static most of the time.
Thank God you can still mod things.6 -
Grumpy cat was in a lot of our internal products, on loading screens and what not, because why not? PM got pissed and said if he sees that fucking cat again blah blah blah. Grumpy cat is now summoned with a Konami code. Grumpy cat will never die.2
-
Finally I could get the correct computer :)
Just missing the raised arm for the screens instead of desk stands
(ok,my real desk is not transparent but it was to cool to not take ;) )2 -
Many people say, that devRant made it to their home screens.
On my phone, devRant made it to the quick actions.7 -
Got a question for the linuxers.
I'm a linuxer myself (no shit) but I don't really tweak a lot. Whenever I see those awesome arch setups with tiling wm's etc (https://devrant.com/rants/1902395/ for example), I would love to set that up myself but one thing:
Any idea on how I'd be able to run this well with 6 screens? I've got genuinely no clue.22 -
Realizing no programming language or concept or theory is too hard to learn. My retinas may burn out staring at my screens but I will get there eventually.3
-
Working from home now check out the new setup. All that's missing is some devRant swag "wink wink nuge nuge know what i mean yes yes ....." Let me know what you think.3
-
I'm 4 days into my new job, and so far I am absolutely loving it. Here's my setup. Yes, they gave me 3 monitors plus a laptop, so my setup has 5 screens! Now I can die happy :D
Definitely worth noting as well, since it caught me by surprise - the company-supplied laptop is a powerhouse. High-end i7 CPU, mid-to-high-end NVIDIA GPU, tons of ports, 1TB HD, 4K display, and 48 GB RAM. Yes, 48 GB. I am truly blessed, starting off my career with this. ^_^rant excessive ram my dream finally came true hello innumerable open tabs multi-monitor setup goodbye lag11 -
Sideproject/side job is getting ready....
30 screens in Sphere for synchronized playback :)
Nucs+ssds+ram5 -
Dev: Hi Guys, we've noticed on crashlytics that one of your screens has a small crash. Can you look?
Me: Ok we had a look, and it looks to us to be a memory leak issue on most of the other screens. Homepage, Search, Product page etc. all seem to have sizeable memory leaks. We have a few crashes on our screens saying iPhone 11's (which have 4gb of ram) are crashing with only 1% of ram left.
What we think is happening is that we have weak references to avoid circular dependencies. Our weak references are most likely the only things the system would be able to free up, resulting in our UI not being able to contact the controller, breaking everything. Because of the custom libraries you built that we have to use, we can't really catch this.
Theres not really a lot we can do. We are following apples recommendations to avoid circular dependencies and memory leaks. The instruments say our screens are behaving fine. I think you guys will have to fix the leaks. Sorry.
Dev 1: hhhmm, what if you create a circular dependency? Then the UI won't loose any of the data.
Dev 2: Have you tried looking at our analytics to understand how the user is getting to your screens?
=================================
I've been sitting here for 15 minutes trying to figure out how to respond before they come online. I am fucking horrified by those responses to "every one of your screens have memory leaks"2 -
Hey so this is more of an Android advice post rather than a rant
So it's to do with the app I'm working on, I want to make sure that the app images are working on different size screens and I was wondering if using the developer option for changing dpi a feasible option in terms of testing, so far I've tested for xxhdpi and xxxhdpi, and just now tested for xhdpi and so far so good.
But I can't seem to test for any smaller screens (240dpi and below)
Just thought I'd ask you guys because this is the best community ever!12 -
My Father is an old bank accountant. So he knows that, behind their mainframe screens there are ugly code stuff and I deal with them.
When I try to talk about my job, Mother's eyes grow in awe. She thinks of me as a sci-fi character.
As my career goes very well, my wife thinks I'm so skillful that I must be like the architect guy at Matrix.
Mother-In-Law and Father-In-Law: A mix of my wife and mother.
They are all proud and happy, so am i.2 -
rant.
when you're a programmer surrounded by designer friends, it feels frustrating sometimes.
people appreciate what they do more because they can clearly see the end product: beautifully designed ui, animated splash screens, clean colorful themes. even though it probably does squat other than to print statements.
then they look at your overly simple design and cant see the beautiful underlying code within.
end rant.3 -
People should understand that the eye retina can't see a difference between 4k and 1080p on 5" phone
Oh now he tells me "My 4k phone looks like my TV!!!!!" as if TVs had high PPI screens >.>
10/1012 -
After a nightmare weekend where moving my 80 year old desk caused the wood to completely split and almost broke my computer and screens in the process..... I felt physically sick.....
Somehow I became a carpenter for the day and rebuilt and resized my desk to make it better then ever.....
Couldn't be happier with the final result tbh!10 -
Just got a job as a junior PHP dev. Company is really chill as long as the work gets done. I can learn a lot here, and I am doing backend stuff mostly.
Got a great PC with 2 big screens and Ubuntu freshly installed by me.
Loving it so far!4 -
This is my desktop setup reveal 1 of 2, I wasn't sure about the monitor stand (which is why I only got the 2-arm) but really love the extra space it gave me.
3 screens help a whole lot, hardware is a bit outdated but it works for at least low end VR development.
my specs are (if anyone cares):
gtx 970 (surprisingly great for vr)
i5 4690k
asus z97 mark 2
16gb ram2 -
Here’s my desk at work in the main office. Annoyed by the two different screens on the side. And the lack of cable management.6
-
When I was a young boy and I was writing my first programs, I remember I was sad because they were fast, unlike other applications I used daily and admired, with their long splash screens and the hard drive constantly making noise whenever you performed an action. At that time for me, 'slow' meant 'serious'.
It's fun to see how things have changed today: ensuring performance is a critical part of my job, and DAMMIT WHY HASN'T THE WEB PAGE LOADED YET?!?2 -
I found that the best place to work on code was at one of my best friends' apartment because:
- cat
- comfortable desk with more screens that I could ever wish for
- coffee AND beer machines at one arm extension from the desk
- cat8 -
So I thought it would be cool to build UI/Screens for Flutter apps and put them out for the world to use. People are already using my designs in their apps and it just feels amazing. I am continuously adding new screens and widgets as and when I get time.
Feel free to fork and show some love: https://github.com/samarthagarwal/...3 -
@localhost that's my setup. btw its saturday, so I aint hitting a single key that's why the screens are off3
-
Been wearing sunglasses to the office for a few months now because I'm sick of bright screens, light themes of co-workers, the daylight outside that shines through the windows (I moved to another desk further away from the windows), the ceiling lights that are always on (even when there's daylight from outside, thanks boss) and people expecting me to have my eyes open in meetings when there's nothing to look at so now I can just close them and switch to "standby" while I'm still listening.
I am a devampire.7 -
Well here's my new setup.
My desk wasn't big enough width wise, so instead of buying another one, I just cut some wood to be longer. Gotta improvise 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Just got the monitor today. Next item is a mechanical keyboard.
I'll post one with the lights off so the RGB LEDs are a bit more visible.13 -
Exploring my work machine today
- Nvidia control panel icon in the taskbar
Why is that there? *Click*
- No screens connected to an Nvidia device.
- Goes to system information
- GTX 1050
- Look around back, all of the displays are plugged into system video on the motherboard.
- Facepalm, plug into the GPU2 -
What the fuck is wrong with web designers these days?
Every fucking web page is white with black text. It's 2022, let's stop this paper bullshit and change everything to use colors that make sense on screens.
For fuck sakes, even monokai.pro is black on white. You know monokai, that dark colorful color scheme that most editors support. With a black background and white text.
I'm nursing the worst migraine in the world right now and all I want to do is smash people's faces into these shitty white screens.
It wouldn't be so bad if these fuckers would have a dark mode, but 80% of the documentation that I have to read doesn't support dark mode. Yeah I know about the browser plugins that do it for you, but I honestly don't trust any of them since most of them have been found to be spyware.13 -
I've made a social dashboard to pull tweets/instagrams with certain hashtags for a big company event we have next week, which will be on all the big screens. We've been testing it this week on some of the screens. This morning, a Twitter spam bot posted a rather explicit picture of 2 girls having some fun, with one of the hashtags.. It was on the screens for 20 minutes before I realised. 😢4
-
On the twelfth day of Christmas
programming gave to me:
Twelve bugs in public branch
Eleven errors to fix
Ten freaking warnings
Nine Windows Updates
Eight blue screens of deaths
Seven minutes of compiling
Six servers down
Five Android Studio crashes
Four angry stackoverflow devs
Three kernel panics
Two burned graphics cards
and a one broken-dick piece of shit JavaScript framework4 -
Something made me realize why some developers like using multiple screens :/
Android Studio, git bash, Sublime Text and Node.js command prompt on a single 16" screen.12 -
Old-ish pic from my setup (back then when you could actually see the desk under all that clutter).
Usually I work from the desktop, but there's also a dockingstation to connect the laptop to the screens and peripherals.
(and yeah I know the speaker placement is horrible)3 -
Manager: (𝑤𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑠 𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑡)
Title: Something something related to the dynamic display of a button on one of our screens in our UI
Description: Something something completely different related to how entities are filtered on a different screen
Dev: f*&$ing hell, do i have to give yet ANOTHER schooling in JIRA this week?!
I swear they're drunk every time they write tickets.7 -
Client: "Let's code a prototype to show our intents to the customer. We have 96 screens to implement as a native app in 6 weeks"
~Prototype delivered in 6 weeks, despite some changes in the design on-the-go. Few months later~
Client: "The customer likes the prototype a lot. They would like to see some changes (another set of > 40 screens). It's still a prototype and the changes should be implemented in a month, but this time it has to use real data from external apis. We don't know which APIs yet, but it should also go live on the app store"
Like, seriously?8 -
I thought I would quickly restyle the web version of devRant to make it a bit easier to read on big screens.
You can get it here https://userstyles.org/styles/...
and apply it using stylish or copy the CSS and apply it via the method of your choice.
There is another userstyle for devRant out there, but it's not complete and doesn't seem to be updated.
Have fun!7 -
We work in an office where we must lock our computer screens because our screens may have confidential information on them, plus you could do things as the person without taking any blame (ie sending an email).
Anyways anytime someone forgets to lock their screen we always prank them pretty hard. The greatest thing we ever did was in our latest release we had our managers buy us drinks at the pub. Well our managers left to go to the pub and one of them forgot to lock their computers. So we downloaded an image of the blue screen of death and made it full screen, unplugged his mouse and keyboard for added effect, and locked his computer. He came in the next Monday and couldn't log in because his keyboard wouldn't work. He actually called IT to bring him a new keyboard and mouse... then he unlocked his computer and freaked out with the IT guy because there was the blue screen of death. Needless to say he got a brand new computer as well as a new mouse and keyboard.
I'd call it a win win?1 -
Ah.... the wonders of technolgy....
Linux fanboys and girls rejoice!
The Linux Virtual Reality Desktop is here. Meet Safespaces. Develop without the limitations and agony of your too small screens your asshole boss gave you.
https://fossbytes.com/safespaces-fi...1 -
Technical phone screens be like, "we see you have years of OOP experience, but can you tell us about the differences between an interface and an abstract class?"
Yes. Yes I can. Can you tell me why you're asking such basic questions? Is this something people actually don't know this late in the game?7 -
In case you and your friend are bored,
Here's how to have fun :
0)Have Linux installed
1)Grab as many monitors as possible me( and my friends connected 4)
2)Open a shell
3)Drag it all the way across all your screens width (basically open a terminal of width 4 screens in my case)
4)Run "sl"
Profit.
I can't really show how it looked like because it's a long video and can't attach here
Do try it out though.9 -
Speaking of work stations - once upon a time there were not many screens on my desk.. and it was the best ;)2
-
Listening to music, lying facedown on my bed with my eyes closed. After a long day, I usually can't look at any electronic screens.
-
I know you all do love the dark side. Let me help out with the web version for ya' too :)
Dark theme:

Optimize for big screens:

Have fun :)4 -
Phones are getting bigger screens but also heavier. Why can't they just make a mobile phone that fits nicely on one hand and doesn't weigh like 1/4th of a kilo (phone+casing+screen protector).27
-
When you laugh at people who crack their phone screens, and then you drop yours face down on asphalt and your screen shatters. Life is fair sometimes10
-
Here's an issue I've been having with my PC for the past year;
*gets blue screen of death* (every 5 mins)
*takes out my second pair of ram cards, blue screening stops*
*waits a day, puts cards back in, has no more problems for 1-2 weeks*
*gets more blue screens*
*repeats*
If I leave the cards out, the system NEVER has any issues.
But, I can't play games smoothly on 4gb of ram.
Also, I can't afford new cards.18 -
www.dartlang.org
Dart helps you craft beautiful, high-quality experiences across all screens
... Not my screen though
I forgive them 😊1 -
When you realize you had sharpening enabled in your monitor settings and you turn it off and shit just looks so much better...
I mean this is a necessary setting when using VGA but this monitor is connected via DVI!
Also some people just do not seem to notice this and leave this enabled on their screens.4 -
Today has been a pathetic day. Nothing worked and lots of BSOD screens of death.
Join me with a beer or two.
Cheers! 🍻16 -
I just broke 2 phones in two days... believe it or not... Both screens cracked and no swipe functionality survived...
I miss my fucking Nokia Lumia 930... that motherfucker was almost fully destroyed, screen cracked as shit, I could actually hold the screen on one hand and the rest of the phone on the other and it was still fucking working...
Needless to say, I'm going to Amazon and I'm getting a new Nokia phone, fuck LG, fuck Sony.2 -
For fucks sake can people stop using phones while walking, especially in busy places it's getting fucking ridiculous not to mention dangerous, the number of people I've seen that have headphones on and are glued to their screens almost bumping into people. What can they possibly be doing that's so important that they cant leave their phone in their pocket for 15 minutes while they get to where they need to be.6

Me and the unofficial CTO (3rd party's CTO) are interviewing an ios dev. (I'm an android dev, btw)
CTO: In your view, would you find developing an ios app would be faster or at the same speed as an android dev?
Me: *shock*
Canidate: I've never developed on Android before, but I'd think it would be the same speed. We both need to make screens, views, and type code.6 -
Seattle's light rail transit signs are just a full screen Chrome web browser. On another crash, I saw a Windows blue screen. Why would you pay for a Windows license just to run a browser that displays transit times?6
-
Those GDPR nag screens actually are more damaging than useful. Nobody has the energy to jump through the hoops all different sites set up for you to opt-out of tracking. Yet you will constantly see those pages if you have opted out.
If you use some privacy extensions that block tracking cookies and stuff, you will keep getting those nag screens, because they have no idea whether you have seen it or not (because of no tracking)
So browsing the web has become the constant of:
1) Search something
2) Deal with nagscreens
3) See the page
4) Go to other page
5) Repeat from step two
I wonder what this will lead to? People are less likely to visit random pages and stick to ones they have account on? Will darknet become more popular? Will somebody design some standard way to get rid of this nagscreen wave?11 -
Much obliged if you stop reloading the folder and searching it every five fucking seconds you fucking cunts.
Good god damn this fucking 'feature' of windows 10 grinds my fucking gears. I hit 'x' to stop seeing the visual distraction of the fucking green loading bar when the folders already loaded. Same thing with music. All I want it to do is open and play my fucking song.
Does it do that?
No instead it spends precious cycles updating fucking indexes or sprinkling crack rocks on the corpse of my cpu or whatever cycle fairies at fucking microsoft programmed it to do while wasting my fucking time.
I wish I had a brick and a microsoft programmer within throwing distance, I'd be sorely tempted to nail the motherfucker square in his fucking big fat melon.
Cunts.
fuck count: 86 -
The craziest deadline I've ever had is DEFINITELY to learn Android programming AD WELL AS iOS programming to make an app for a startup i currently still work with, and the time limit i had was a week. This week included learning both languages, and creating the 3 screens they had ready for me. I somehow managed to finish it!
Toughest week EVER, so far.

— it’s not going to shrink on small screens. Maybe we can put them in column for narrower widths?
— NO! They should overlap and I don’t care how you’ll do that!
So I stripped a responsive viewport, now the website is not responsive, but yes, we have “kewl and pwetty overwapping bwocks”, congratulations! -
When you release a mobile framework, here is what should be in the tutorial:
How to do api calls
How to switch screens
How to handle hardware sensors
What are hidden away in an obscure last page on the flutter site? All of the above. The api section just straight up fucking points to a dart page. Good fucking job.11 -
The new CTO promised us better coffee in his introduction meeting. Honestly felt pretty trivial and part of his used car salesman pitch to us.
A month goes buy and he replaces our shitty drip Starbucks breakfast blend coffee with ... Starbucks coffee machines. I shit you not these things have touch screens on them. So I tried two cups of each bean type and ... this stuff is really really bad. It's literally worse than the drip brew. It's so fucking terrible I have trouble finishing a cup.
God damn it!8 -

Most useless premium laptop feature: touch screen.
For my new Lenovo I saved hundreds of dollars because I opted for the second best screen option. Lower resolution WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 165Hz, beacuse the 4K touch enabled fancy schmancy screen of my current Dell XPS 15 has barely been used. I keep Outlook open on it FFS, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have used the touch feature 😖
Is it just me?9 -
Damn, this delicate 15.6" piece of plastic I call my laptop is the reason I have to tolerate stupid curious college-mates. Whenever I open it, everyone is like woah dude, you are a coder! does it have porn ? or games ?
yeah mann fuck you . its 2018 , I don't play pc games and I can watch porn online . can you fucktards just leave me alone and let me work ?
Why don't we have cheap laptops with good specs but smaller screens? like 7" or 9"
fucking CSE college pervs acting like babies :/8 -
Come back from a week's vacation, 3 apps in review. Sit down, set up Xcode, pull latest changes. Run code for the first time, tap through two screens, find a critical bug and I have to reject all 3 apps and resubmit.
5 business days away and I found an obvious bug in 5 minutes.
Someone's not doing their job... -
My boss keeps touching and poking my colleague's and my laptop screens. Our laptops are both Mac and are not company property. My colleague once told him to stop. He said sorry, but after 5 minutes, he did it again. It's so annoying. Why can't people understand that if it's not a touchscreen, they should keep their manners and not touch it?12

!Rant
Being changing apartment this days, I had to continue my personal project on the notebook but soon I realized that I can't, a project that requires full stack programming isn't bearable on a 1440p 14" screen, I need at least 2 screens 😫.
On your side, have you ever stopped working because you needed more screens?3 -
So I’ve requested images for the dark mode because the existing images are very bright and look bad when dark mode is enabled.
After a few days the designer says that it’s done and sends me the figma link.
And what do I see there? He added the screens but in dark mode with the same bright images! 😂
I mean… even if he misunderstood me… doesn’t it look odd to him?4 -
Just picked this up for my goals this year. If I don't like it, I can always sell it off and I don't like having to switch between screens on my laptop for tutorials. Has anyone used How to Learn Python the Hard Way? Did you like it? Hate it?5

Despite the "blue screen" name, Windows fatal error screens sometimes can be also displayed with other background colours; in Windows 9x, the colour of the message could be even customised by the user.1

To all of you:
Nobody enjoys loading screens. Just because the UI reacts on things, doesn't mean that the actual job gets fucking done.
So instead of using some shitty progressbar you copied from a dev who copied it from a 90's textbook, show some cat images.
The fucking internet is full of it and if your shitty Hello World app that is wasting 300MB of my RAM is dieing in the middle of some loading process, you could at least ease my pain.
Please. Show cat images instead of a progressbar. Thank you ❤️8 -
Multi-Screen problem: So I need to run a VR headset with a laptop, and the laptop has only one hdmi connection. I don't have any extra hdmi adapters, so I cannot connect my second screen while working with the headset, which sucks...
but...
then it hit me...
there is an app called spacedesk which allows you to use your phone as an additional screen. I have a docking station for my phone so I can connect hmdi to it. On the first try the resolution was shit since it uses the default phone resolution. But the phone has Samsung Dex, which allows you to run everything full screen on your connected screen, so I can run the app within Samsung Dex and therefore will get full resolution.
And this works. It's kinda stupid and maybe a bit complicated, but it works. God, I love technology :D:D:D
This is the adapter to adapter to adapter to adapter meme in action, just wireless. Lol. I'm proud of this xD5 -

When I just started programming I aways added fake loading screens and hard-coded login screens to my c# applications because it looked cool..
But I also always added an invisible panel to the top right so whenever you click that it would bypass the login screen.
I had to do that because 1. I will forget that password after 2 seconds, 2. I got no time for that login screen.2 -

I'm fed up with parents, teachers and others being sceptical at any digital skill.
I was banned from screens when I was younger and told I needed either a trade or to become something like an engineer. Any interest I had in computers was laughed at or not taken seriously... I am now the CEO of Blooware.co.uk a software startup.

Just realized I don't have a good social life outside home/college. Most of the time I spend time with my laptop and phone.
And at this moment am too afraid to socialize because my friends and family been doubting at my mental stability after seeing me talking to my PC.
Its been ages since I have played any games outside or hang around with friends. Sometimes I do hate the way I am now and want to ditch all these screens once and go gipsy around the world. Fml!!2 -
Not really screensharing but kinda
Was in secondary school, I found out the computers had a team viewer client on them. Decided to download the full version to my usb and connect to my friends computer. We drew a bunch of stuff on the screens and eventually the teacher noticed a popup for team viewer in the corner of the screen and we got in trouble.1 -
Just got to test the app from the frontend team... Oh God why!!
5 minutes, found 5 bugs (c'mon testers!!)
Worst (and now it's a rant) why do designers insist on working with big screens and don't test it on a standard screen? You know? Those typical screens your users are using?
So, it looks great in a 24" screen but the focus is terrible in a 15.6" screen... No time to fix it... What should I tell the users? Works better at 85% zoom out? -_-
You just fucked up the main feature of the app! Congrats!!! The rest looks okay I guess3 -
If a frontend dev asks for screens, mocks, designs or whatever, all the company pushes for it and gives it to them, but if a backend dev asks for a set of input/output samples for a feature, the same people claim "its so hard to think about the cases"... Wtf are they thinking?3

So I've gotten a new second favourite piece of software. It's called Synergy and it makes it possible to use two or more different computers like multiple screens.

Haven't ranted for awhile but here it goes...
In a meeting with a front end user yesterday. They don't like the entry screens on our Oracle ERP system. They want us to provide them with a tool so they can create new entry screens to replace those they dont like. They want full autonomy over that tool and no interference from IT. Oh, and they want unfettered database access to the production data, including full ability to execute DML. I so wanted to say 'Are you high?'.1 -
Is there such thing as enough screens?
Just got a new one, which is like twice the size of my older 2nd screen and Im still pulling things to my laptop screen...6 -

I use mainly linux at home, but I have to use Windows at work. I don't hate Windows, but at least once per day at work I accidentally try a keyboard shortcut from my Arch + i3 setup and either end up with some random program from the start menu running (Windows key used in i3) or I flip one of my screens sideways... Nothing detrimental, just enough to be aggravating.1

One thing that I'm not that big a fan of in Kubuntu is how I can't just scale one of my screens. I need to scale my 4k monitor to 1.5 the size otherwise it will all be too small. However my 1080p monitor also gets scaled, which is really doesn't since it makes everything wayy too big.
However, when I use display scaling my apps actually fucking scale. Meanwhile on fucking Windows they haven't figured that out yet

I fucking love Asynchronous Action creators in Redux.
I little more work upfront makes for a well thought out application and makes things like loading screens stupid simple. -
Most frustrating? Anything involving IE, but that's a safe answer. No, my most frustrating experience (to this day) is getting tables to behave responsively on mobile screens. Not easy when the tables in questions contain dozens of columns with hundreds of rows and mostly rely on fixed widths to render the text the way the client wants. So if you have a client who doesn't understand how hyphenation and word break work, I know how you feel.3
-
So Ive to make new screens in xaml in combination with C# (WPF)
So I had something like this in the codebehind
titleBox.Text = Properties.Resources.someKey
The resources looks like
<data name="someKey">
<value>some text</value> <!-- this is some comment --> <!-- and another one -->
</data>
The title got as value "and another one", when I removed it it became "this is some comment" removing that resulted in the value "some text"1 -

After I was woken up in the morning by my friend that had a meeting nearby.
We went for coffee and as part of usual Wednesday I also decided to go to cinema to see Dr Dollitle ( not verry funny ).
I felt relaxed as everyone fucked off from me since Monday.
I was so happy of doing nothing after the movie I decided to try to make both frontend and backend for new application screens in finite time.
I could have waited for frontend developer to be back from his vacation but since I can also do it I decided to do it myself.
I did frontend part first with mock data and after finishing it before 2 pm asked if client will have time to discuss it. He didn’t so we decided I try to add real data and publish it on test environment.
Well those are mock up screens anyway so I decided to eat and smoke to chill but also try to work anyway.
I just finished backend for those screens and switched test environment to new branch.
Looks like they’re working for biggest client customers.
Usually it takes about a week or two to describe frontend developer what client wants but let’s see if I still have some frontend UX empathy left and can speed up development by couple of days. -
When asking for help:
Sending screenshots or worse, use their phone to take a photo of their screens instead of copy pasting the code.
As if reading their code isn't hard enough already. Ugh -
I see people posting pictures of computers (ATMs, ad screens, digital signs, instruments, etc) failing and instead showing some Windows function, update, or the desktop. Makes me wonder: WHY would you use Windows this way? Think of how many product keys you'll have to buy and how many systems you'll need maintain to show a stupid sign? There's GOT to be a cheaper way of doing things like this.4

So glad i moved from a desktop PC to a laptop for development. I still have 2 workstations (one at home and one at work) with 3 screens, mechanical keyboard + mouse. But if i ever have to demo to a client/PM i just un-dock and take my laptop to them. Plus if the office is loud i just go to another room.1

Had a handful of extra eyeglass wipes that someone gave me a week ago, so for lack of anything better to do while waiting on an OS install, I decided to give my laptop screen its only serious cleaning in the 6 years I've had it.
20 minutes later and it's already gotten its first fingerprint because I wasn't thinking and tried to wipe off a speck of dust.
I'm starting to remember why I stopped caring... -
in my previous company , we used to create 4 custom ui states for just 1 screen in android app, and we would have task to create 3-4 new feature screens in 1 sprint (of 14 days) the states would be :
empty state : a state where data is not available. usually consisted of message, a graphic and some action button
data state : the usual state where data is filled on various elements
loading : a shimmer ui showing loading. it was supposed to be pixel perfect to that of the data state. it was basically a different xml, but with grey colored views instead of colorful. the tricky part would usually he to create the dynamic views
error/no connection state : as most of the screens couldbget api error or no internet error, this would be the screen for asking user to retry connection
all of these screens combined with their ui in xmls + kotlin code with barely any stuff being reusable , made the life incredibly difficult. however a lot of our customers would appreciate the interactivity of our app
doing these stuff again nd again , i had become trained to do all those 3-4 (x4) screens and the whole ui stuff in first 4 days of the sprint. but now i am in a company where i am getting passed on to managers after managers and getting tasks to change documentation in 1 week, i find those coding stuff incredibly tough.
gotta get back to shape -
This is iOS. The “Phone” label should move and transition from white to blue. But, it’s not just one label, it’s two labels on separate screens, so for this effect to work, they should be aligned perfectly.
However, blue label is off by two pixels.
Yes, to notice that you should probably have Aspergers. Yes, I do develop user interfaces.
Yes, I basically monetized my Aspergers.3 -
Recently I wondered why so many people complained about Windows 10. I had no issues, no crashes, and no bluescreens. Everything was fine.
Then the "anniversary update" installed. After days of restoring partitions, reinstalling, boot repairs and blue screens I realized Windows 10 is now incompatible with my PC.
Well, good thing MS extended support for Windows 7... -

A VR/AR OS, with gesture recognition and virtual tools, to substitute workstations.
Imagine painting a picture in a AR canvas, for example.
Or using photoshop in VR for a distraction free enviroment. For coding, I would want to use a real keyboard, of course, but I would use virtual screens for everything.
The possibilities are endless, but people would probably use it mostly for porn, obviously. -
I wanted to work on my new project this weekend, Friday I started good with a case of beer, chips and... fell asleep. Saturday I started good as well then breakfast happened and evening ended with shots. I hate application launchers.
When i start an application, i WANT IT TO START. What i don’t want is your bullshit, custom, logo and splash screen infested piece of shit launcher to start up, with the only option of loading a project or file up, or worse than that, when the only option is to start the fucking application, which should have already happened.
Also, splash screens. Fuck your 5second branded splash screen when your cocksucking application has the fucking loading footprint of MS Notepad.2 -

Went out for a night of food and drinks and came across one of those little screens/kiosks with what I assume is Windows 10 and TeamViewer running o.o and the credentials open to the public. What makes it even worse is that all the screens in the area I live are connected to the same account. D:

I hate it when my bosses approve of a design and then after some time ask me to make some annoying changes. I love programming, but I don't like being bothered by boring tasks.. and the worst part is that my bosses expect me to take care of building the backend, front-end, complete the design of the screens available, make up designs for the screens that are not, test the Web app, solve the bugs created the people who also worked on the project, solve the bugs created by me, and if something is not clear, to ask the client directly, like dude.. I'm just an intern here... and the most annoying of all this is when they take a screenshot of something they don't like and simply write: "change this".... CHANGE IT TO WHAT? if I knew what you would like I would have already done it!!!

Having ram problems with my x299 system. When ever i put 2 8gb sticks in my pc just bluescreens on startup. But if i just put one in, in the b1 slot then it works just fine. But if i put the 2 8gb sticks in one in b1 and one in a2 then take out b1, then the a2 works. This works with both of the sticks so i dont think either one is dead. They are compatible, but blue screens whenever installed together. My bios is updated. Any ideas how to fix?8

Developer's frustration..

My programming paradigms unit has decided to explore different teaching/learning environments by creating lecture/workshops. Imagine a massive room with big projector screens at the front and smaller screens lined up against the wall at the back. The lecture room seats are designed around tables that are gradually elevated so it’s similar to a lecture hall but you’re sitting at discussion tables.
There’s the usual lecture with all the slides up around everywhere, there’s nice wheelie chairs and dimmer lighting... can’t tell if we’re at a conference or some awards night. Then all of a sudden, we’re coding in teams (tables) and uploading our work on to forums to discuss with the rest of the lecture hall. WHAAAAAAAT
Really different and quite enjoyable experience, there’s more than one tutor walking around to help, there’s mics for people to present.
Just sharing my new experience of forward learning environments that didn’t cause feelings of anxiousness for once or boredom. It was kind of mind blowing, wish it was always like this. -

In an in-house beta our product was causing blue screens. We had some the crash reports and a I dug out the technical notes in how to decipher that gibberish. Still no real clue, but there was an address happened where it was supposed to happen. So I dumped our binary into two reversing tools, jumped to that address and looked at the surrounding code.
And sure there it was: A missing check when manipulating a C-string which could lead to out of bound access. Added a check BSOD's gone.1 -
120fps and 240fps filming isn't just for slow motion playback, but recent smartphones have 120 Hz screens so those videos can finally be watched as ultra-smooth motion with audio.
If only all smartphones encoded high-framerate videos in real-time with the same framerate recorded from the image sensor instead of stupidly slowing down when encoding.
Granted, this is a thing Apple has always done right: they encoded their "slow motion" videos in real-time and let the user select the slowed-down portions during playback!
Let the user set their preferred playback speed in the video editor, don't dictate that 1× playback speed is 1/4 of real-life speed. 1× playback speed must be 1× real-life speed to clear up all confusion.
Besides, laptops with 120 Hz screens existed as early as 2011 (Samsung 700G7A)!. -
How coding has impacted my life?
Lol, mann I don't think normal anymore. Everything is logical and conditional statements to me now. If this, do that! Else, do this. I've been making people think 2x about their dumb questions to fix their broken phones, computer screens and yes, the popular one.."can you hack facebook?". I can't even do a simple renaming or count without start with a 0. Normal people start like 1, 2, 3, 4.... and I'm like 0, 1, 2, 3. Bruh, I'd rather code than hang out which I still do but less now..smh -
Anyone with 2 monitors (or more) with laptop as the primary source. How did you connect everything together? Also, I use Linux (Antergos)
I bought 2 monitors. I was able to connect one of them to my laptop with HDMI. Now, my laptop only has one HDMI and no VGA. So I can't really figure how to use 2 monitors with my laptop (also extending it and not duplicating screens).
I've come across HDMI splitter. But I don't if it allows extending screens8 -

When the time came to start the task, he sent me a document about writing automation test for the screens, which was new thing to me.
The task took more than the estimations (3 times) and I have been blamed because I made wrong estimations.
The team leader was the one who blamed me!!!
Never estimate a task without full description...2 -
What do you think of my setup?
I carry a strong laptop for heavy lifting and an iPad for RDP'ing into either my laptop or cloud hosted VM's.
This setup is obviously optimized for mobility, if I had a stable place to work, I'd use a desktop with multiple screens. -
That feeling when your mom frequently tells you multiple screens is bad for you and urges you to use just one screen.2

AAAARGHH!!! It happens every now and then that when I open a window in a Windows application, the window opens outside the display area, on a non-existing display to the right of my primary screen. There is no other way to access the newly opened window than to go to "Screen resolution" and swap screens 1 and 2 such that the secondary screen thinks it is to the right of the primary screen (although physically it stays to the left of the primary screen). And then, once I've got hold of the window, I swap the screens back. It's just so incredibly annoying and a complete waste of time. This is staring to really get on my nerves! >:(8

Once i came to work to see my screens, keyboard, mouse, computer, cables, chair and even the table properly packed in food film. All things were at their place and actually could have worked like that.

Is there any way to connect 2 screens to a hp linux laptop (having only 1 HDMI port and no type c) ?10
-
client: "I cannot access the app"
me: "How? Can't install app? Can't login? Any error messages?"
client: Sends picture, one of the screens shows error
I really don't understand some users. How does one connect the dots between "cannot access" and "screen error". -
made a stand for my phone from some plastic i found a picture with glass front. and some wall hanging no damage sticky. after which i put deskdock on my phone. i am now typing it with my keyboard. I now how 2 screens and a phone connected to one keyboard and mouse. and boy do i feel the power.8

I have a pair of older TVs that contain data readouts. However, because the screens don't always update they are susceptible to screen burns. I'm looking for a screensaver or something that could move around on the screen but not completely make the data disappear. The current running thing we have are the Windows Bubbles screensaver. This allows us to still see the data but it freezes the screens. (No data update)
I need something that will save the screen but still allow the browsers to do their screen updates as usual. -
I was just wondering a little about my shitty life and I got curious: How many hours a day do you stare at screens?
I am not gonna give you my answer just yet, because I am ashamed of myself.14 -
Am I the only that looks miserable because of its desk setup while rest of devs post their fancy screens with leds around everything and stuff?
-
Fucking hell... If I knew that PHPStorm could display the same file over 2 screens/windows, I’d have used it sooner. 😡
It is a godsend though 🙂7 -
Ubuntu 20.4 is not very cool.
It might look "polished" in some (barely noticeable) areas , which doesn't matter to me as i already used better themes and icon packs. Moreover they tried make ui and icons flwt which looks terrible. It feels like to ubuntu's designers , flat= every icon in a dark gray color. Am not a fan of black topbar either, the old darkish looked much better
The worst thing is that now i have to go through multiple start screens since my laptop is dualboot :/ .
Its now like : black screen > (hp+ubuntu logo) + grub > (hp) > (hp+ubuntu logo + loading icon) > lockscreen > my system
Earlier it was just hp> grub>lockscreen>my system. The fast start up was one of my favourite features of Ubuntu, now its a million loading screens. The lockscreen is cool tho6 -
Most of the time staying at home nowadays is simply staring at screens.
Staring at the laptop screen while working
Staring at the phone screen in free time and breaks
And staring at the TV while having lunch/dinner
Eye Opticians are going to get a lot of appointments soon.1 -
android, a real nightmare to get something working in all its versions and screens and different vendors devices2

Today was a little better, we discussed a bit about design with client and agreed to add two new screens inside application. Need to organize some backend logic for this.
Nothing difficult but there might be some problems as we progress trough this data during first implementation.
Don’t have a graphic designer in a team anymore so lots of freedom and mistakes. -
ingenuity
needed testing with 3 acccounts.
as a dev, I managed to do this with two screens, juggling here and there.
The QA guy, just installed 3 monitors.
I am like

Books ( stieg larsson, randall munroe, ...), and very old first aid kit,, 2 handmade ludo games, several keyboards, two ood screens, two notebooks, several harddrives and more stuff that should go to recycling.

What is the Ubuntu equivalent of Snipping Tool? It's too tiresome to manually crop print screens.12

Worked as frontend on a company that also had backend devs making frontend work. One day we've received a task of redesigning those screens, since their work were poor. Past half of the work is done, the whole team came onto us saying to pause the task since there would be multiple changes into the informations on the screens. That day we lost something like 4 hours of work. Didn't punched anybody though.2

Any android devs here? I created a simple interview tech assignment app with 2 screens (item grid and item details) with latest architecture (Compose, Retrofit, Coil, Room). Looking for a review or any kind of feedback/ideas regarding what needs to be fixed/refactored. Repo is here: https://github.com/appdevv/DemoApp
If you want, feel free to pull the repo and just make a pull request with your comments.5 -
Hey guys. I need your advice about writing a documentation. I want to make a flowchart with all processes of this client’s mobile app so I could see the UX logic and also all UI screens in the app. I also want to somehow add backend info in order to see which endpoints are being called in these screens and what type of responses are we parsing there.
Currently flowchart is done in draw.io, some of sketches are in zeplin, and there is 0 backend documentation just some implementation in our mobile app.
I would like to combine all of this into some useful document/overview so I could pass this doc to a junior dev and he could jump working into project without a problem.
Do you know any tools to do this?1 -
Some long thoughts about state of desktop operating systems.
I always hated window management on desktop. There is basically no difference in usability between mobile and desktop in terms of application management. There is still finite amount of apps you can have in focus and you need to switch between them so they’re left from your screen.
What you end up is finite amount of screens you can connect into your computer or pounding switch context shortcut every other second.
We pushed computing so far and screen resolutions doubled from 1024x768 but the active desktop size is still the same.
For me adding additional display to laptop is not an option. What I love with remote work is that I can lay in my bed or on sofa or wherever I want to and write some code. My point is I don’t want to be stuck to my desk if I want to write / debug something.
Back to the desktop I think there is missing part of our state of desktop right now. The most we have are virtual desktops we can switch between but we can’t get parts of two desktops on same screen.
What I would love to test / develop is smooth infinite desktop with pinch and zoom - drag and drop navigation between my apps.
The problematic thing is determination of where user want’s to focus - is it fullscreen app or multiple apps on same screen and how to handle partially visible windows.
But I would love to test it. Maybe one day I switch to linux desktop just to try to implement the infinite desktop as an alternative to virtual desktops.
Maybe some rich frustrated kid would make it someday while I’m stuck at working my shit ass to pay for being able to have a decent life on this fucking planet…
I wish I can retire to focus on such things.2 -
I found that when I worked on a Mac I only had one screen and worked quit productively. I didn't feel or miss only having one screen.
But when I'm using Windows, I struggle to work with less than two screens, in fact I could do with six! 😂
Is it just me or has anyone else experienced the same?
P.S. good to know I'm not alone 🤓

Had a call at university. I was about to introduce new students into some general functionalities about the institution.
I was the only one activating his webcam and had some great monologues for an audience consisting of a bunch black screens. It was extremely weird to ask for questions and get literally no response at all - uff.1 -
I'm dreaming about an assistant system, which is omnipresent.
Popping up on screens in public, sitting in many ear listening to my speech, with my personal feed off contextbased information.
Like a juxtaposition of Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, etc...
I don't want to pick my device from my pocket to type in a search or to push a button and say "ok buddy".
It just have to be omnipresent and focused on my requests.1 -
I guess it's not today, that I want to know when the train arrives and depart from the train station. All the screens went down, with this little javascript alert.3

Do you have multiple screens? If yes, in what orientation?
I'm personally using 2. 1 horizontal and 1 vertical.
The vertical one is nice for long documentation and the horizontal one is mainly used for gaming.12 -
I love the idea of a thin and light laptop to handle some of the lighter stuff while I'm out and about, but you're usually looking at a 13" machine. Any laptop users find these smaller screens to be a hindrance?1

Have you tried transporting you'r pc monitors inside suitcases? Ill be moving to another country and would like to get my screens with me. Its a six hours flight to the new destination.
Have you tried it? What precautions you took, how it went?5 -

Using bootstrap I want to create a table so that the thead is fixed and no matter how many rows are generated on loop , the thead will align properly with the tbody. I will keep the thead fixed so that only body will scroll vertically.
So the problem is on a responsive table how do I match the cell alignment and spacing of the head to the body cells.
Have wasted a day on this fed up. P.S on smaller screens I have set overflow to scroll vertically. Please help.10 -
Just bought a Chromebook Pixel. Love the hardware - Chromebooks in general are a great way to get a Linux laptop with guaranteed driver support.
But why is it still so hard to get decent HiDPI support in Linux (or for that matter Windows) desktop environments?
I realise Apple had an advantage in using vector-based Display Postscript, but massively divergent screen sizes and resolutions have been around for YEARS now, so why is it still such a faff?1 -
Making board games in VB 6.0 with control arrays. Ah... The good old days... Control arrays were my answer to everything back then... 😎
Oooh and there was also the time I discovered the AutoIt scripting language and made MadLibs scripts that prompted for each part of speech and then typed the final result into Notepad. 😀
🤔 Or maybe if I go back even earlier... that time I discovered autoexec.bat and the escape codes for box drawing characters to make sweet startup screens for my Windows 95 install. 🤓 -
I kind of need to replace my ThinkPad T430 soon. I bought it for about $200 3 years ago, and I love it and it just works and does it's job. But the fan noise is getting annoying, the battery is pretty much dead and yeah well, the screen does suck.
I've been thinking about replacing said parts, which would cost me about $150. Which is almost what I paid for the device back then, but I don't know I don't really want a new one. The T430 is a sexy old lady, just needs some polishing.
Now to my questions..
Would you say it's worth it?
Is there a big noticeable difference from a glossy 1366x768 LCD screen to a matte 1600x900 LCD screen?
Would you pick matte over glossy?
Do LCD screens always suck?
In case you would just buy a new notebook, can you give me any recommendations? The notebook market is huge and I have no idea what to look for.
I'm not a big Hardware guy as you can see, I have honestly no idea about screens and panels and such.16 -
Assumption. Screens are wider and wider, bigger and bigger.
Solution 1: Make more one-page layout sites like there is no space on sides.
Solution 2 support solution 1: Make everything 2-3 times bigger so there can't be space on sides.
Solution 3 support solution 2: If there is some free space, call it neccessary white space.
It's a trend i see around me. Sometimes i don't get it. More than 1 year i have no side menu in designes what i coded. -
New laptop. HP z book. It stopped working so I had to have a new motherboard. After the new motherboard I kept getting BSOD. Got it upgraded to Win 10 (it was supposed to be runing this not 7). Still getting BSOD with the bonus of black screens wanting me to restore. Even better I've gotten No OS found on boot. My work won't let me have a Mac or exchange my laptop. But am I done yet? Fuck you.12

Good afternoon everyone. i work in the HR department of a small company that works in the fast food industry..we want to install screens for advertising in all our establishments..as an option, we are considering animated graphics..maybe someone has already done something similar? Or tell me who to contact.6

I wanted to make an android application to manage contacts. I asked a developer to estimate this 5 screens and he said 3 months and ₹1.2 Lakh ...... really!!3

Thoughts about using React Native with Expo for apps? Recently started working on a dashboard app, have made few screens already, looking for some pointers.2

Anyone facing issue while using multiple screens with Latest version DEEPIN OS ?
In my case the two extension monitors are not getting signal6 -
I started to use the MVP architecture for Android App development a year ago with a project that wasn't all that complex. My project manager liked the idea but despite that we continued with an MVC'ish approach for other projects (corporate bullshit restrictions). Yesterday I reopened the project after 8 months and Iam wondering why the fuck didn't we switch to MVP I just created 6+ screens with little to no effort including data feeding from an internal API. I would like to hear your experience with MVP architecture.

Steering to regret that I traded in my 4a 5g....
Now, feel it would've been more useful now if I kept it as a backup in case something happened to the P6 Pro...
Fucking curved screens and on screen scanner...
Still haven't dropped the $$$$ to get a screen protector...4 -
As a gamer and developer, I have 2x 33 inch screens and 1 laptop screen. But I can not use them in an optimized manner. Since I am a gamer also, I use the middle screen for games and it is directly in front of me.
Therefore I can not use the large screen at the left effectively, it is far away from my eyes and hard to look at. So, can anyone use two screens with equal efficiency?7 -
React native devs, how do y'all persist data on different screens without using redux-persist and redux at all?
I mean, I need to navigate through different screens without having to lose data on the previous screen. Help!1 -
Went to the conference center in a Marriott in Provo. It was nice to see this familiar face on the information screens. 😆

Getting back from vacation and just getting the frikkin computer to work again. No network. Screens turns of by themselves... fml...1

That's what you get for using windows, NS. I wish that I could say it's the first error I see in your screens.5

Needed a ARC glass, after checkup doctor said I need glass with power.
Got my first glass, due to multiple close encounters with digital screens.
Now I only see blurry, while I could see almost clear before.
Now I don't even know how I look.
And the upside is I can see things in POV now.💰11 -

Developing a website for mobile feels like a pain the back to me. Can anyone recommend any good tutorials?
I can design basic sites for desktop screens but I have problem making them work for mobile. I don't know the right approach. Should I add a bunch of @media queries? Or should I use relative measures like em? It's so confusing. -
Hello! Can you please tell, when getting a design layout, for instance, in Figma, which way can you study the look of this design on screens with different resolutions before implementing it? Are there any ways?
I mean only observing the graphic design of this page.2 -
My team just spent all afternoon again their wfh setups.... They all use multiple monitors and laptops...
I never picked up on the idea though.., multiple screens always felt distracting...7 -
DevRant gets very confused about orientation. Exactly upside down for some screens (landscape), and portrait only for others. To the devs: I feel you. Sincerely—a veteran of the rotation trenches.2
