You know what?
Last night I was dreaming and all that I’ve seen was fucking preloader.
Seriously. I couldn’t wake up. I tried thinking about something else but couldn’t focus on anything else than fucking preloader spinning around. Just couldn’t get it out of my head.
That was terrible. Am I even human? Or was my dreams server blocked? Damn, I’m gonna sleep with VPN tonight.1 -
Pretty fucking sure it’s Monday... Critical Server KO’ed during hours... Going to be a long day....

Bloody Windows kept waking up after a few seconds of being suspended. Someone here mentioned it could be the mouse, so I disabled its function to wake the pc . And you know what? That piece of trash windows still kept waking up for no reason. Makes me angry.
So I found this magic command 'powercfg/lastwake', which shows the reason for the last wake. And look at that! The fucking realtek network shitcard is allowed to wake windows.
Why would windows enable that on its own? Why? Because I for sure did not make this change and suspend was working for me until a few months ago (yes, these kind of problems take me very long to fix, even though it would tske only two minutes).4 -
Go to bed, fell asleep early for once. Dreaming a nice dream when I wake up due to a VERY LOUD noice
Oh well, neighbours having playtime again.2 -
Fuck insomnia. Fuck it right in its overly alert, not at all tired face. Could I just for one night actually sleep and not wake up 2 hours later? Please?!6

Trying to plan ahead for each day but i keep failing !
I go to bed early at night but still cant wake up as early as i hope to.
Anybody has a solution for this?8 -
I guess this happens to everyone but damn, hate it when dreaming about code, and not just any code, but the code your enthusiastic about, somehow everything seems to work, so that when you wake up and sit in front of the computer you just go blank... what was that code again, it was so sleek, so simple, yet so robust...
12 hours later dream about it again to wake up realizing you wont ever be able to wake up remembering the code in the detail...1 -
My (optimistic) brain at 11:30pm right before bed: "You should totally wake up extra early tomorrow to FINALLY finish that last 5% of your side project that has taken you 10x longer to do than the first 95%!"
My (sleepy) brain at 7:00am: *Hits snooze.* "Eh, there's always tomorrow!"2 -
!rant
Actually managed to get out of bed today without snoozing my alarm.
Damn just a couple of weeks ago I usally snoozed for almost 1.5 hour with 10 minute intervals

I'm a dev and I like to rant
And who says it has to always be about Dev stuff ?
So!!! I ve spent 2 days as a junior dev and I feeel not well... 1) I am the worst dev in the company with no experience 2) brain-dead 3) feel like I wasted 2 days and learnt nothing, I guess in theory it's something but realistically I had no "it clicked" /pure genius /astounded myself / made major new brain connections moments
So what's going to happen now. ? When will I wake up? How do I wake up ?12 -
-*sleeping frustated cause of code errors*
brain: hey, wake up! I think I know the solution of that code

Fuck this life1 -
Tiny advice to owners of DL360 G8 who have it at home like i do.
DO NOT RESET iLO at 12AM.
When it boots up it will go to full on jet engine mode for 20 seconds or so.
Not great way to wake up your family i can tell you that.
Speaking from experience from 21 hours ago.7 -
Fucking hell. When you go to bed sorta early, but can't stop thinking about your latest project for some fucking reason. So you wake up hours later STILL thinking about it, thus you aren't even sure if you slept at all. Doesn't feel like it. What the fuck? Programming, are you my goddamn love interest or what? Anyone knows the feeling?2
-
Started my day by running a forkbomb on my own computer to prove to someone what it was 😑Wake me up when it's Saturday.2

Summer: when I wake up automatically at 6am but forced to decide whether to work from home or commute to the office
... because I want nice food and to go outside at lunch time12 -
Every Monday I am privileged to wake up 1. 5 hours earlier and listen to executives talk about what meetings they had with potential customers and what news about ongoing agreements with other potential customers (which have been in the pipeline for 1 year or more sometimes)
Why is this necessary?? There has been virtually no progress on any of the topics discussed. At least nothing that concerns us devs.
Instead we get to wake up earlier, waste 1 hour, and get bored listening to what essentially seems like a sales speech while convince the employees the company is not spinning its tires while stuck in the mud.3 -
Jetbrains Rider is a VASTLY SUPERIOR ALTERNATIVE TO “VISUAL STUDIO 2019”

Fucking panic!
First thing I see when I wake up today is an email from my colleague. It says we've lost a hell of a lot of user uploaded files in ALPHABETICAL ORDER. Also, it happened TUESDAY NIGHT.
This will be fun...2 -
Worst Hackathon experience:
Taking an API built by a junior dev team with minimal specs and "hacking for two pointless days" to make it work in production...
The whole Hackathon idea was an experiment to see if they could make the dev team stay late if they bought pizza and said "have fun".
We all spent 2 days cursing at the shoddy tools and lamenting that you can't run a Hackathon with a single directive and "production ready goal" yet remove any choice the developers have to actually contribute.1 -
I'm simply going to go to bed, and hope that by the time I wake up, the cPanel installation is complete.5

Mornings before starting office work
During start of lockdown: Wake up early, freshen up, do daily exercise, get sunlight from the window, write an article or work on side project for an hour, then start off to work...
5 months after lockdown: Wake up just 5 minutes before office work, brush my teeth and start off with office work...5 -

Any ideas on how to fix this? It makes getting up just even harder than it already is..27 -

Had to work until 7pm because of a bunch of pending tasks from last weeks support pair, had to wake up at 2am to restage our apps in our cloud env, and then wake up at 6am again to do deployments and validation only to have management breathe down my neck as to why my deliverables aren’t done yet.
It’s only been day 1.6 -

Just gave up 10GB++ on my Mac for MS Office. Survived with Drive for the first 4 weeks of uni until yesterday, a lecturer bombarded us with announcements in MS Word format. Did I just wake up in 2005??
(p.s. the same lecturer used to work for Intel
p.p.s. there is a separate announcement section with automatic email blast)3 -

You wake up and either have a skin condition or a beard had grown and you didn't notice. All joints sound like a bowl of rice crispies when you move and you're seriously beginning to identify with Rip Van Winkle. -
The moment you wake up from seeing yourself debugging code in your sleep is basically the moment you realise you have been baptised as a true developer.
What experiences have you had which you consider to be your development 'baptism'? :D4 -
This became a tradition when waking up DevOps. When I wrote the escalation SOP, I felt it needed to be included. I don't think anybody's noticed it yet...1

Imagine you're in a world where everybody suddenly vanishes when you wake up what do you do with your time and where would you go33

FUCK rabbit holes real hard. When you spend a week creating a super optimized recursive handler for mapping redundant database row results and you wake up from your coma realizing everything could be handled by a much simpler SQL query done in five minutes. Fuck me, fuck the rabbits creating holes to fall into and fuck Alice for creating the fucking illusion of wonderland.

"I'm gonna wake up early, and hammer out this feature, being super productive tomorrow"
Tomorrow comes:
- unexpected build errors
- unexpected runtime errors
- intermittent CI pipeline errors
- spends two hours trying to resolve errors
- literally hasn't touched the thing that's important
What else is going to go sideways? Watch Bitbucket or CircleCI fuck up and refuse to deploy this live for some stupid reason.8 -
It has been 2 days since I completed a project and I still don't feel like working. I wake up, waste the whole time and repeat. Ugghhh its frustrating!!!1

I have dreams where I stare at code/tables/program output, half of the problems are real and half are made up, I wake up stressed out about not solving anything and trying to remember which is the real half I need to solve.
Why can't I dream about the video games I play? I need to get a life... -
I plan on going to office on time... I generally reach after 10:30, timing mentioned on my offer letter was 9:00.
So, waking up has never been an issue.
But I wake up, lay on my bed doing nothing... Sit on my bed doing nothing... Does everything in ultra slow motion...
And regardless of how I early I wake up I'm always late. Ugh.2 -
"Let me get an early night and wake up early for a change"
Wakes up 12 hours later, 10 minutes before work starts 😑 -
Tfw when you wake up, realize the interview question code you submitted was broken, check the provided test cases, they don't catch your logic error, so you write back with a breaking test case and an outline of the bug fix. Got the onsite...1

I'm having an awkward episode of excitement-fear-shock, so I don't know why I'm exactly writing this; I just needed to tell this to someone.
Few hours ago, I found out that, in a hardly believable turn of events, I have been accepted in a PhD program in the exact field I wanted, computability theory, in one of the top universities in my country. I would say this is a dream, to have the chance to study what I like most in this world, now I see I just got the opportunity to make this dream come true.
With an absurd feeling of joy and sadness, it also means that I have to let go of programming, at least as a career. I really don't know if I will have to crave for the job I have right now ever again, but I know that I won't regret this decision; this is what I want.
But anyway, I enjoy to code, and I will enjoy it any time.

Software development is a special kind of a nightmare. The kind that you wish you could wake up from, but can’t, because code is money and money is life.4

I'm finished with university for this year, so I can finally dedicate all my time to work and personal projects. Knowing that I can do whatever I want because I won't have to wake up at 7am... I feel GREAT! Now it's 4am, I just finished a section of a project, and I don't feel tired at all. FUCK YES! -

Finally an error I can understand with ease. Up until now, I’ve been getting these weird arbitrary errors that make no sense to me.
I tried to wake my MacBook and the thing hung. I have it some time, and it restarted, restored all windows, and let me know it was a “Sleep Wake Failure”.
Honestly I don’t mind getting an error occasionally. But when the error says “UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP” while I’m gaming on Windows, it annoys me.
Also having WebKit crash the webpage on me without telling me what happened also gets me mad.
TL;DR: Make understandable error messages.2 -
Taught me just because something looks right it doesn't mean it is right. Ex: memory leaks, connection strings, 32 length passwords, and good looking women. Oh wait that last one could be a rant by itself cause you can't find a good looking woman that isn't crazy and won't wake you up if you do manage to get to bed1

The day when you wake up and realize you have committed to building a ecommerce solution, crm & a form management system.1

Why can't they get power saving right? Every keyboard I have to pull out the sleep button. Once you press it that's it. PC is dead. Put to sleep.
Do I have to venture into the ancient forest and find a prince to wake it up?
Same thing with monitors these days acting all weird.
Can we put a wake up button on these things? They're backwards. At least have a screen explaining its waking up. The slightest indication.
If power saving is going to be such a hassle I'm going to turn it off.6 -
You ever wake up and realize it's 10 am and you wanted to be in the office at 8 and for a moment you question your entire career and every single life choice you made?9

When I'm trying to sleep, I get such a surge of motivation that makes think I'm such an amazing programmer and that I can build anything. When I wake up and try to get shit done, I make 476 errors in a simple "Hello world" program. 😑

I was not able to wake up on time, even the alarm was not helping.
So, I made a project for hours..
Searched for all the bugs...
solved all of them EXCEPT for one , which was the easiest one... then I went to bed
Next day I woke up before timing of alarm :)2 -
So yesterday night, I went to sleep thinking of this unfinished task. I did wake up with an awesome solution in my head, but now as I reached office, I forgot the fucking solution and how I arrived to that stage. fml

I'm so scared that if I fall asleep then I'll wake up and it'll be tomorrow and I'll have to go in and get asked questions all day at 10minute intervals instead of being able to code that I'm putting off going to sleep so I have longer to adjust to this horrible fate

Have to wake up at 7am to be at the office at 9am. This is kind of the main hate about my job. Am I picky?8

I discovered a cool little trick to wake myself up when I wouldn't stop dozing off and feeling like passing out on the floor even after emptying the coffee jar to my cup and splashing my face with cold water.
I watched horror gameplays,
Instant effect and now fully awake.
Thablnkfully human fight or flight response really puts your body on overdrive, heightens your alertness and raises oxygen levels in blood which makes you stop yawning.
Imma play or watch resident evil 7 whenever I wake up now ! Life hackzz6 -

Try bullet journaling.
Just set a phone alert to update it before bed and when you wake up (to refresh your memory and jot down things you forgot).
And prioritize tasks. You can mark some tasks for later, even for a different month.
Some people like digital organizers (and I use those too) but I like pen and paper. YMMV1 -

Been having dreams about being able to solve real world problems by solving/modeling with programming tools. Usually trying to fit some relationship or physical problem to a math/programming model. It always makes complete sense while working the problem. Then of course you wake up to a "WTF was that?"1

It's like my life is divided into two parts these days. Some days I wake up and the sun is shining and everything feels good. Other days I wake up and remember that I'm going to be working on writing unit tests all day. :/

I got 2 PS3 Move sticks (the kind with the ball, usable for VR) for $5 from a local pawn that always low-prices tech (I also got one of the thumbstick ones without the ball, and a Wiimote as well, both bundled with) and decided to try and set up PSMoveService on my PC. Half my mobo and the USB Bluetooth stick I've had for like 5 years just failed the smoke test. The USB controller on my mobo released the mysterious blue death smoke (the only other interface I have is ONE PS/2 port) and the Bluetooth stick caught on ACTUAL FUCKING FIRE. The PS Move controllers have been shorted out in the chaos, and my keyboard's also been shorted out.
Fuck.
My.
Life.
I need a new mobo ($100-$400), 2 new PSMove sticks ($100+ on eBay) and a new Bluetooth stick (the one I had was actually really cool, but I can get a new good one for $50, just not THAT one)
That's a $250 bill at the *very* least. -
Sleep at night then wake up in morning thinking that I have been sleeping for a day. In normal day I'm a night owl. that confusing feeling.

Some days are like being a musician on tour. I wake up to a new code base every 2 hours. After a while I'm like, "What client am I even working on?"

Mondays aren't the best time for me.
If it is a lazy weekend, this is the routine:
Sleep most of the morning in, wake up - do things, 10PM, think of some code to work on. 11PM, yeah, enough energy now - lets code!
