I recently met a young fella (14yo) playing League of Legends. He asked:
- What do you do for a living?
- I'm a programmer, do you know anything about programming?
- I don't, actually.
Apparently he was playing from a LAN Gaming center 'cause he didn't have a computer at home (his computer had broken and these Lan centers are pretty affordable).
I figured I could explain to him what was it and what super powers you could get from it. Turns out I recommended a JS course in codecademy and now he goes to the LAN center every day to study programming (he got really into it!).
Now he always pings me with questions about JS and apparently he's learning a ton! He had almost no English skills too (we're Brazilian), and because most of the material in the internet is in English he found himself some free English courses and he's now taking them!
Knowledge is free on the internet and I guess he's just realized that.
Not exactly a rant guys, just figured it was a nice story to tell :)

Lady: YES. That worked! Thank you so so much!!!
Me: No problem. Have a good day!13 -
Me: I’ve been in the web since 2006, of course i know html, css, javascript.
Also me: Google how to center a div.28 -

Designer: “perfect”
Yup. This IS the Truman show.17 -
So everyone is sharing their work again, so here is mine.
And no 6 monitors, 1 pc isn't overkill.
Well...
Maybe...
But just a little!
Usually, one is spotify, one iChrome, one development (center bottom), one execution of dev, one email&facebook split and one documentation.24 -

Pc wouldn't boot. Went to the service center.
The guy at the shop : what's the problem?
Me : pc won't boot, just starts beeping
The guy : I see. It could be a hardware or a software problem.
Me : (trying to keep a straight face) oh?
Him : oh yes... It's always either a software or a hardware problem.
Me : thanks I guess?9 -

What happens when you change the service call center to 100% AI
AI: Hello, this is the After Service center. How may I help you?
Angry customer: Hey! Do you count this as a product? Do you sell this to use it? F*** shit?! Bring the manager now!
AI: Thank you for your response. We will connect you to the Development team.
Angry customer: Uhhhhhh
AI: Hello, this is the development team. Please state your problems.
A bit relaxed customer: Umm, so this product you guys are selling stops working sometimes, so...
AI: We are sorry, but for the product misfunctions, please contact the After Service. We will connect you to After Service.
F***ed out customer: Wait, I just came from the After Service!
AI: Hello, this is the After Service center. How may I help you?
Angry customer who is ready to throw the phone: I said that the product is not working, and I asked to bring the freaking manager in the line!
AI: Thank you for your response. We will connect you to the Development team.
Customer throwing the phone and shouting: F*********************************************************************************************!7 -

Annoyingly typical office conversation:
Person 1: "Good morning."
Person 2: "Good morning, how are you?"
Person 1: "Good. How are you?"
Person 2: "Good."
Person 1: "Good."
NO! Not good, fuckers. I hear this all day long, come up with something real or original. Talk about the massive shit you just took, or how hard you're taking the news about Diablo Immortal. It reminds me of that scene in Office Space with the repetitive call center lady, lol.17 -
Ok, people who invented CSS... which seems more intuitive and easier to read?

I used to work in a call center for a local hospital.
One night, all of our lines are swamped. Literally no time for a break between phone calls, +15 minute wait times. I answer the next call:
Me: "Its a marvelous Monday at AskIT, how may I help you?"
Doctor: "This is Dr. [Noone Care]. I need you to fix my password now."
Me: "Absolutely! You should be able to enter a new password now."
Doctor: "MY HANDS ARE NOT FOR PASSWORDS, MY HANDS ARE FOR SURGERY!"
😩 So glad I don't work for doctors anymore. Oh and the best part is, he had selected the general phone queue, rather than the doctor queue (~3 minute wait time instead).7 -

My first Windows rant.
I use Spotify heavily. (After all, I am paying for it every fucking month.) In fact, it's safe to say I use it upwards of 12+ hours a day.
My birthday was a few weeks ago. I got a new mechanical keyboard using some money i received as a gift. This keyboard has a function key to launch your media player. Odd function in my opinion. But I figured I would try it out for a week or so.
My problem is: the default media center is that god forsaken piece of shit groove music (not only is it shit, I also have 0 mp3 files on my computer).
No problem, I'll just change the default media center. Fucking Windows doesn't let me change it to Spotify. Odd. Well, I did download it from Spotify's website. Let's try downloading it from the Windows store.
I download Spotify from the Windows store. It still cannot be set to the default media center.
For fuck sake, if Google can let me set Spotify as my default over their shitty YouTube Music that I know damn well they're trying to make as the default for all Android, then you can let me change it Windows.
Yes, I know Spotfiy isn't exactly a media center, but it's basically the same fucking thing.16 -

Me: The phone rings but when I pick up there's nothing there.
Indian call center: Okay sir can you tell me if the landline is plugged into the modem

Indian call center: Okay so we'll reset your modem again.

Indian call center: Do you get a dial tone now?

The center of the trackpad simply feels smooth because of the oil from my finger.
The keys are oily as well. Specifically the space bar and backspace.
I guess it's time to find a way to clean it. I probably can't save the trackpad lest I damage it.31 -

Another non programming related rant although kinda tech related.
So I work in a distribution center and today I learned box packing.
1. THEIR LEGACY ASS SYSTEM ONLY RUNS ON IE (FUCK ME IN THE ASS SIDEWAYS PLEASE).
2. SYSTEM CONSTANTLY FREEZES.
3. THE HAND SCANNERS RUN ON AN OLD FUCKING LEGACY WINDOWS (PRE 2000 I THINK) SYSTEM AND IS SLOW AS MOTHERFUCKING HELL.
Yes, it is VERY frustrating to have to work with this FUCKING SHIT THE WHOLE MOTHERFUCKING DAY.
Plus side today, the locations I had to pick from today included 200, 403 and 404. Had loads of inside jokes about not being able to find locations and not having permission etc 😆6 -

A classmate of mine had the task to align some content on a page to the center using CSS (using margins)
That classmate has no fucking clue because she pays no attention.

The teachers asked: "What does font stand for?"
Her reply: "Uuuuuuh... Position?"

So my friend was in a hurry when she was setting up the passocde for her phone and later she forgot the code.
So she takes it to the service center.
SC guy: Ma'am we have to do bla bla bla. And you will lose your data. It will cost you around $10.
She just came back and later gave me the phone.
*unlocks bootloader *
*flashes a custom recovery*
*delete passcode file*
Phone is now unlocked with all the data intact.

Yesterday evening I'd been to Lenovo service center to get a battery for my personal laptop.
Sales guy: Sir, I can see that your laptop had Windows 8 when you purchased it. If you want I can give you a one key recovery disc for that.
Me: Thanks a lot sir, but I run Ubuntu on my laptop. And if you are insisting, I can take that recovery media and install it on my uncle's laptop.
Sales guy: I'll get back to you on this.
*End of conversation* 😂5 -
I've got to say, arriving at my teeny tiny rented room after a long day of distribution center work and sitting down behind my monitors with a good beer and doing some programming/server stuff really feels like coming home 😍.2

One of questions in short test that we give to interviewed frontend devs is:
"How would you center a <div> horizontally with CSS?"
So many still answer with <center> ...13 -
So I persuaded my boss to buy me 2 extra wide monitors (2560x1080).
They're way to big and my neck hurts. After few months, I stopped using edges, and keep all my editors and browsers in the center of my viewpoint, leaving edges empty.
My desk is also too small, and I don't have space for anything else other than monitors.
We programmers have it rough :(6 -
Just had my first demo here. The resolution of the screen was set at 150% screwing more up then i hoped for.
I didn't dare to show the iPad version. I had seen enough bugs in those 10 minutes.
Don't put this developer in the center of attention. Please.2 -

Did organizer mistakenly named it HACKATHON 🤔 ???

Bootcrap. Just looked at their main page, and it's a whopping 75k of markup plus 294k of CSS (W-T-F?!), and 224k of JS. All of that shit for a page that shouldn't be more than 10k of markup, 16k of CSS, and that has no reason to even use JS at all.
<a class="d-flex flex-column flex-lg-row justify-content-center align-items-center mb-4 text-dark lh-sm text-decoration-none
Yeah, that crap is supposed to be "easier" to write. That's what you get for totally failing to understand how HTML/CSS even work, clinging to late 1990s practices, and ditching decades of progress since then.
Although the Bootcrap folks do manage to write valid HTML. As low as that sounds, but that counts already as an exceptional skill in the notoriously low-skilled frontend "dev" world that is all about making shitty websites.
Oh, and the rest like Failwind and Bulimia aren't any better. They already fail at delivering valid HTML on their websites.17 -
I fucking swear the servers in the data center know when the fuck I'm going on vacation.

Dev’s then: “Let’s make a new software that will revolutionize the world!!!”.
Dev’s now: “How do I center a div in CSS?”.13 -
Imagine yourself being a CTO back then.
Brand new Acura NSX. No MacBooks, ThinkPads are hot. Your company has its own skyscraper. CASE tools are just introduced and they’re hotter than blockchain now. You do software architecture in IBM Rational Rose, typing on your Model M and thinking really hard about Java OOP which is very hot right now.
You have Erlang servers at your own data center. You laugh at people writing in COBOL. You excited about aspect-oriented programming.
What a wonderful time.3 -
Doing a distribution center job right now just to pay the bills and had to do voice order picking (with a headset and voice commands etc) today. Well, that didn't go ideal:

A free, open source, modular (plugin based) home automation control center.
Ultimate goal is to support the core / apis and other devs code the drivers for the 'IoT' devices.

Not that money dependent but very time consuming project.
Im starting in a week tho!4 -

Literally Googled 'fuck xcode' and found this, thank you guys, you made today a bit less dreary than what i was going to be. Reading through the posts actually made me laugh out loud.3

Another day, another client story.
So today the client is sending me the text for the website, and after 15(!!!) iterations, add a period, center the text, justify the text, center it again etc.
Me: Can you please create a word document, design it as you like, and I will copy that to HTML for you?
Him: But if I do all the work what am I paying you for?
Me: To listen to you ...3 -
Interviewer: "Is studying computer science the best way to prepare to be a programmer?"

I just wanted to make with the Spotify API an online player. I sat 2 hours and still can't figure out how to center a fucking unordered list which is horizontal aligned
FUCK CSS7 -
I'm currently working in call center. Making them a management system for agents. I'm the only developer there. No one asks about the progress even the owner doesn't know a thing about softwares. This gives me a freedom to do work when I want and how fast I want. But because of this I don't care anymore about the little things. and I have adopted some bad programming habits during my stay. Should I quit or what?6
-
Just got into web development.
Y U NOT WORKING RIGHT?
How do you guys make really complex websites when I can even center an unordered list without the first child...
I write something like align-vertically: center;
And what does it do? NOTHING!
And if it does something, it mirrors the whole page, makes it all bright pink and then everything explodes and I'm alone in a dark void, only me and my PC are there and somehow I have access to the internet.
And then I look it up at stackoverflow and I'm like: Oh, ok, I'll do it this way then.
And it still doesn't work and does absolutly nothing!
So I'm trapped in this void of nothingness till the end of my days.
At least that's what it feels like.9 -
Me: "Hmm. I should center this image."

margin-right: auto;

First rant, technically a sysadmin but getting into the nitty-gritty of programming with some things to improve my job (and hopefully moving into something more technical).
Have been doing a paid internship at my utility company. I do patch management with SCCM and sometimes the updates break. I've been using Powershell to reset the Windows update cache to make the computers work again. Unfortunately, this sometimes involves logging into machines to do some manual work and I have to notify users before I log in if they're already logged in.
Scripts can be run silently but I've spent a few weeks trying to automatically retry Software Center updates with Powershell … before realizing just today that the system center action "Application Deployment Evaluation Cycle" does indeed do the thing I've been attempting to do with Powershell for weeks now.
Wish me luck as I automate that part of the process and completely automate the sole job they gave me to do. Don't tell on me!5 -
Got to know about OSMC/Kodi last week. Took out my Raspberry Pi. Setup OSMC over the weekend, did all the cable setup for 4 external hard drives and connected to TV via HDMI. After few configurations, I'm all setup. I'm astonished by all the features it provides. Fetching data from TMDb (I had actually created a javaFX app to do this for my local library just last month), remote control from Android as well Web Browser. Enabled UPnP and now I have my complete media center floating around my house network. It is one of the best open source project I have laid my eyes upon. Wish I could attach more pics.6

So a couple of days ago we noticed a strange behaviour with a playment plugin for an online shop of a client. We opened a ticket in the support center and got a response that basically said "Nobody ever reported this behaviour. Therefore this is not a bug."3

@dfox Would you make it possible to cluster push notifications that occur on the same post? When I receive a lot of notifs at once it clogs up my notification center.
Additionally would it be possible so that I can completely turn off seeing certain types of notifs even in the app not just for push notifications (from what I gather that is the only thing I have control over)2 -

When you've been slinging divs all day and can't get that image to center, and finally you type "text-align: center" and think, yeah okay, I think I'm done for the day...
... And then the image centers.

Personal life update:
Like I said a few rants ago, I got a job in a call center for a national Japanese food chain. I am getting a pretty good salary for a teenager, and I am being paid the same amount as the other call center agents.
What I didn’t tell you is that I am doing a pre-university SAT, and it’s pretty much destroying me. I regret choosing to do it.
About AltRant: currently on short hiatus, though I swear to god that I will DEFINITELY upload it to TestFlight so you can get a taste of the app. All I ask is patience. I think I will wait until iOS 15 is out because the latest betas created a massive issue in a few parts of the app. All of them are aesthetic but damn it, I want to fix them only when they are officially there to stay because right now iOS 15 is still in beta.9 -
Tell people you know how to code - they always have nice ideas for "new and innovative" apps and want you to code for them ;D3

Anyone know of any hosts NOT running on amazon/silicon valley/microsoft cloud?
I'm specifically looking for a host thats setup for or works well with python.
I'm about done with censorship and noplatforming. As a moderate that for a very long time was left of center, these practices are never justified.49 -
I used to think decrappifying my own CSS was hard... trying to help someone else is a whole other monster.
PHP, JS all have some method to their madness but CSS: “oh you center aligned your heading? Well guess everything else needs to be pushed wherever the fuck I feel like on the page” -
My baby sister told me she wanted to learn how to code, her reason being; she visited a startup incubation center at her school, my alma mater, and she thought they looked so cool and collected.
Hahaha! I told her to try visit when they are having a deployment or when someone's code is just not working.1 -
*Automated Helpline calls be like*

I swear my co worker said we were meeting at the data center at 10pm all week! I call him and he says 10:30. Wtf?!!! Well guess I got some time to read more rants.2

When the client wants to deploy a patch to their app that is hosted on the cloud, but wants to do it onsite.
Oh well, might as well visit the data center of the cloud provider -
What a horrible monday today was. Fuck-all worked. Missed deadline. Not much sleep. Heart is racing.
But hey, the horoscope in the daily toiletpaper press knows it all better, as usual, 100% IQ:
💫"You have finally found your center. Your body and soul are feeling great and your're in tune with yourself. You are enjoying it and would love to share your experiences with your loved one."💫
Where is my rocket launcher??? I have to kill a newspaper.6 -
Haha, today I learnt that agile doesn't just stop in the enterprise with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), management has continued the theme in my new company with Lean-Agile Center of Excellence (LACE) and Agile Release Trains (ARTs).
Software development in 2021...9 -
Thought I had a dead pixel in the center of a brand new display (<1 month). Thankfully it was just dust, but damn I was pissed.3
-
I just finished something!
Okay, it's just a quickly thrown together python script that takes a directory of portraits, centers and scales the face closest to the center of the image and creates a gif. Made it for a friend who is doing this one portrait each day thing.
Nothing big at all, but damn does it feel good anyways 😁 -
I mean, the developer just didn't even fucking care that the annoying menu is in the center of the screen, wtf (reader mode save me)6
-
The most annoying hack I've had to deal with was back when I did IT support, actually. Level 1 call center tech at the time. Apparently someone fell for a phishing email and gave out his outlook credentials. The phisher used that email account to send out another phishing email to roughly 1800 employees.
Security Operations noticed, because this guy's job didn't generally involve sending out mass-communication emails. They investigated, figured out what had happened, and opted for the nuclear option: they reset the password for EVERY SINGLE ACCOUNT that received the email. All 1800 of them. Over the weekend.
I walked into the call center Monday morning and checked the call stats, then did a double-take. There were over 300 people waiting in the queue. I almost left and called in sick. Turns out it wasn't that bad though. Annoying to reset so many passwords and having no downtime due to the full queue, but on the other hand my stats were better that day than any other, since every call was a 5-minute password reset.1 -
Oh! How I wish the ++ button was placed at the top/bottom center part of a post. Being right-handed, the level of laziness I have to stretch my thumb all the way to the left when scrolling on the phone with one hand is appalling.11
-
You all know that these AI dev tools are reading your code right?
It is sending it back to a data center and doing evaluations on the code. This is like handing your code to an unknown entity with no guarantees for privacy or copyright protection.
This concept bothers me and I would have to consult with my employer to even determine if we wanted to take that risk. I think it is just a matter of time before a bad actor takes advantage of this and rips off a company somewhere.8 -
The whole CSS "centering" thing is so funny because that problem is easy per se but it can pop up in ways you've never seen before and you have to learn how to center your stuff for 9832 different situations5
-
You told me “my dick is small, but your dick is smaller”. Little did you knew that in CSS, “smaller” is bigger than “small”.
With that attitude, there is no way you can achieve float: center. May the position: absolute be with you, for the rest of your life.4 -
Last month my phone (YU YUPHORIA) stopped booting up.. so I went the "customer service center" and asked the guy maybe he can install new software. He tried and said we can't repair it.
I love this phone not the best performance phone but I love it. So I don't want to throw it away. So yesterday night I started searching how to install custom ROMs. and found a development mode build for my device. After some tutorials and experiment it's up and running baby... 📱😍. Thank you internet for helping me..1 -
On the week I went on holiday there was a fire alarm in our data center and the Halon fire suppression system was deployed.
I always miss the excitement.
Apparently our servers rolled over perfectly and we had less than 5 min downtime though, even with 4 killed drives in our SAN. So that's a win.
Kudos to our system administration team, especially the poor bastard who was sat in the data center with his toddler at fuck-my-life-o'clock in the morning.1 -
just bought a dedicated server, coming in the mail this Friday. gonna use it for a 24/7 Minecraft server and maybe some web apps to experiment with stuff. I'm also going to have it connected to my TV as a media center occasionally. best Linux distro for dedicated server? bonus points for easy to install and configure14

I got told I lift my mouse a lot and I noticed, I actually do, does anybody else here lift the mouse to reset to the center of the mousepad, to a more neutral position or to just soften the drag from the cable often?10

I'm so glad that I got a CS degree learning Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating systems, Databases, Linear Algebra, Software Engineering, Networking and many more...
How else would I have been able to center a div with CSS or change the Background color?2 -
Everybody keeps complaining about people who center content (expecially in websites) not appropriately.
So I'm just watching the WWDC 2018 (never watched one before and don't own any iDevice) and see the new aproach on Apple News.
So, "centering is ugly" is out and instead "gorgeous".
Have to admit, that this does indeed look nice. Just funny when centering content often embodies bad design choices.2 -
one of my friend is new to frontend dev.
and he's trying to center a div (text).
using position absolute and relative.
It's not working BTW.
We're communicating over text.
Must be loosing his mind.
He'll finally understand center div memes.6 -
My dad. he inspires me to explore the computer world because he opened a computer service center when i was a kid. i followed him since then. but the only difference is i know a lot of coding than he does.
i'm very different than my other siblings who pursue career in medical world. that made me asked myself whether or not I'm adopted lol.1 -
okay, this is fucking ridiculous. my bank released an update of their pushTAN app and I just had to call their service center to learn how to interact with the "new" UI to release an order.
quiz: how do i release an order in the UI shown in the screenshot?
(auftrag freigeben = release order, ablehnen = decline)19 -
Do I know how to use flex? Mostly.
Do I know how to center a div inside a flex? Yes.
Do I know if I need to use align-items or justify-content for it? Absolutely not.13 -
Do other OP owners have this close all button in the center?
Don't remember if this is there by default or some mod...
I want to move it to the side as I've pressed it a few times by accident....6 -
Memorable coworkers? It's a toss up between the guy who got fired for calling a department director a c*nt on a recorded phone line loud enough for the whole call center to hear it, and the guy who reported me to HR for not including him in a private Slack conversation because it had nothing to do with him.
People are weird.1 -
WTF IS THIS? Been popping up all day.... I tried googling but official support says to uninstall Office and Visual Studios....
WTF MSFT!!!! Quite frankly it feels even tech support at tech companies aren't very competent.... just staffed by a bunch of call center monkeys?5 -
Had to replace my Huawei watch due to a charging pad getting eaten away.
Bought on Amazon but returns always get lost so I went to my local Huawei service center but they had no stock and ordered one for me to replace mine. Today I picked up my new watch and they freaking upgraded me to the 4g watch.
Thank you Huawei, just another reason I'm staying -
Started work at a call center recently, really hoping things work out since it's full time, if you're inclined I'd appreciate some help toward that stress ball, I think I may need it soon...4
-
As a kid when I was coding I used building blocks and I used some yesterday for Lego robotics at a science center and I felt really dumb because over 2 years since I was 10 I used actual code like typing it and it feels much better than blocks and just over all building blocks just make me feel so stupid😵2

9 pm - let me just quickly setup up a media center/NAS in my RPI, then it's off to bed!

Going to a student study center. (Not sure how to explain, but it's basically huge library without books?)
Huge quiet space with tons of people studying just makes me want to focus on my own things.
So, group mentality I guess1 -
Last night was dreadful- at 11 pm Dev on my team makes a change to a form with 2 million plus records without informing me and leaves to go out without confirming the change was successful. I get call from the data center at midnight because the app is down. Didn't get done till midnight and now data center boss is blaming me.5

I'd like to build a visual Web of what it looks like with every user connected to eachother by their upvotes to one another. @Localhost would probably end up at the center.
It would be interesting to see nodes that would end up being a complete sink of upvotes.2 -
Probably everyone at least once had situation when they receive a meaningless screenshot with 500 page, a message "Application doesn't work fix it" and 0 info whatsoever.
Here is my tip that saved me a lot of trouble.
I display error id in the center of the screen, large enough so no matter how small and blurry the image is (yes users, send us photos of theirs displays) , It is always easy to ready it so we can start investigation without talking to those monkeys.2 -
My key ring :)
An old friend (remember the guy who had a miniature Red hat?), gave me an old RAM from a work machine (he worked in data center team).
We had many spare ones so, I picked one and been using it since then.
Photo in comments because dR is fucking up the resolution.5 -
After completing urgent projects that rewrite a lot of "overtime" or even personal projects that rewrite like a few weeks to complete.
Old web dev days pre-BS... All the CSS needed to and the cross browser compat. The divs don't align... Can't get elements to center... Or it does, just not in browser X...1 -
Not the best workspace picture in the world but it's my first working space that I rent with some collegemates inside a shopping center with 10 floors in Iran. The only thing that annoys me is the fact that I have to get premission for almost anything from security...
Today the mission is to clean more and make the setups! -
Does anyone know if anything special is required to vertically center a div in Firefox?
It works perfectly fine in chrome and IE and Edge and freaking everything else!!12 -
You know you have been coding with CSS Preprocessor for far too long when you typed this in regular stylesheet and wondering why it doesn't work...
#container {
.wrapper {
text-align: center;
}
}
Why the font doesn't align to center!!! @&$#+%*^2 -
Lol this is actually funny
It was a promotion that involved doing more work but didn't involve me getting a change in title or pay
Thing is tho... The promotion was caused due to developers leaving left right and center and I left shortly after as well...so I guess it makes sense that they maybe saw that I was planning to leave *shrugs*1 -
Ask me to build a backend system with AWS services, docker containers and ExpressJS/Laravel, I am down with that.
Ask me to move an image to the center of a div, I am tapping out.10 -
It's 20-freakin'-17. Why aren't decent internet speeds the norm yet? (And I'm not taking about rural areas, I mean near the town center). Fuck Asus. My laptop charger was not working and I called them. These fucking people asked me to get my warranty approved because according to thier database they only have manufacturing date. Hello, today was my First day, internship at Microsoft innovation center BE, a great day with amazing people, my project is called tech Office, we need to process data from sensors in the office, create and use Microsoft AI to optimize and help the office become smarter and more efficient. Make the life better and the environment more productive. I don't really know where to start but I'm happy to be given such an opportunity and will do everything to make this work !

I was wondering if there are "employees" in scam call centers, who genuinely don‘t know that they are scamming the people who they call.
Maybe they get minimal information or are lied to and don‘t care enough to question it.
So I‘ve tried to google it. I‘m bad at googling and couldn‘t find anything. All the results were how to avoid or to spot scammers and similar things.
I tried searching in German and in English and I also tried Duckduckgo. No luck.
Then I asked ChatGPT and it basically said that it could be very well true and gave some examples and referenced some articles.
Of course I know that ChatGPT can‘t be trusted because all of it could be hallucinated.
So I asked for references. It gave me just one link, which lead me to a 404.
Maybe you can help me out on this topic?
The reason that I want to know is because I get a lot of those scam calls for years now and I started to mess around with the scammers.
But if they don‘t know, then maybe I should try to convince them that they are working for a scam "company".6 -
Last week-end I went to a hackathon organized by Microsoft Innovation Center, that was great ! I didn't win anything unfortunately but the guy from there said to my team "we want your project" before we leave. So we didn't won anything but you want our project ? Wtf guy ?2

I'm starting Monday whish me good luck. I don't know if I'm more excited or more stressed I will know Monday.4 -
So, today we had our first production release of our web app. Last week we changed a big part of our UI. This week we changed the design, rewrote the complete API documentation, implemented mobile support. While the release the administration center of our cloud was unreachable. Shortly after the release we made a bug fix and deployed it directly to production.
So today was a very normal prod release 😂1 -

Microsoft Partner Center (aka Windows Dev Center) is a fucking joke.5 -
For the room closeness part of my algorithm I changed it to check against a point on the edge of the room. I determined this point by doing a vector intersect with the room geometry. The vector is determined by center to center of the rooms. Not the closest point on the outside of the rooms to each prospective room, but close enough. That is what I am drawing with yellow dots.
I can use these points to approximate door positions and corridor placement. This is for completely random rooms and corridors. However, for predefined rooms with strict entry points I will have to figure out how to connect those doors to other random rooms. Or I just predefine door locations for all rooms.
I dunno the best way at this point. Doing pure random has benefits. Doing predefined rooms has benefits as well. Will probably hack together a mixture of the two.5 -
trying to rotate the character in Unreal Engine based on player input. It rotates around some sort of super weird point, so it looks like it's driving "backwards" while rotating, instead of rotating around the center of the mesh... sigh..
...
...
Solution: pass down the rotation value to the animation blueprint, rotate rootbone.
SUCK IT <.< See? it's not that hard, nor awkward. ffs.2 -
- Applied for a job at campus interview
- Got selected (yay)
- Turns out it's a BPO service center
Another opportunity will come, till then I'll apply for the paid PHP Internship. -
That moment people assume you don't know things because you are generally quiet because they are around their friends. Uhm, I got the job and had to go through months of interviews, tests, video chats, probation periods and got the job almost 3 months earlier than I should and got promoted to a better team, you don't see me trying to demean your job as a call center consultant here around all the developers I know. Just lemme drink my coffee in peace :(

I always rant about Ubuntu but today I'm gonna be fair, I had a 30 seconds look at the new Windows 11 user interface: is a so fucked up guresome mess, with its center-aligned taskbar, rounded windows corners and recent docs section taking up half of the center-aligned start menu, that it makes me want to puke before the entrance of the closest Microsoft's company building. And you now what? Such building is actually not farther than 20 minutes from where I live, so I probably will.13

Today I started my first machine in a data center after configuring it :) It feels awesome to contribute in an awesome place like this! Lots of projects ahead of us during Long Shutdown 2, including OS transitioning, hardware upgrades, updating config managers to newer version and so on! I've learned a lot in a week and my confidence is slowly but steadily building :)

My most cutting edge story would be working on Huawei fusionsphere cloud for some big firm.
They needed some scripts to setup servers for their newly built data center which will handle the live feed from traffic cameras from all over the country.
It was during college but I think it still holds the top place except for the new one that I'm working on right now. -
I'm quite confused about job market here in germany. Beside studies I'm working in a data center and have already some practical knowledge about programming stuff and managing applications. Although many companies I apply for say I need more experience. How the hell should I collect it if I don't get the chance to do so. Do you have seen this in other countries as well?5

Css positioning is harder to understand than the full OOP concept.
So i wanted to create a very simple page with a single css file. I spent 2 hours to position the buttons in the fixed header and center some things.
I got the whole OOP concept with abstraction, polymorphism and inheritance in an hour and could use it right after without problems.
Holy shtcake i never want to do frontend.8 -
I needed to do some maintenance on some of the text views in my app because they were sticking to the center and not to the leading edge (aka left).
This is harder than it sounds like.1 -
You know what feature about macOS I just don't get? Notification center. I don't know what it is about it, but it just seems kinda out of place. Maybe because an app's notifications aren't cleared when it's opened? It's just not a feature I use.2

What the.. Apples member center (for managing iOS dev certificates and profiles) keeps crashing the whole Safari.

at the age of 12 I was bored so I started with html as I wanted to make a website, at the age of 14-15 is started with pure php, at 16 I started my first IT study for second line support and at 18-19 I finished my first IT study and started my second IT study for support mangement and when I'm done with it I'm planning on doing a third one for data center engineering.

I just installed the interior IM app developed by my company's IT center, the way it uses to sync messages is almost common, downloads data from server and adds those conversation to client's window, and I am sure the guys who wrote this stupid thing invoked a same function like pushing message or something else, 'cause my cellphone vibrated like a Morse code machine w/ tons of Adrenaline injected when I press "Open", for almost fucking 1 minute.

Co-workers conversation about the new Google Pixel... "I won't get it because they steal your soul, same reason why I don't have the iPhone with the finger print.. they want to have all your information... blah blah..."
I laugh, because they device doesn't matter... your info gets stolen in transit... so all your snap chat, IG DMs, and all of communication potentially at risk to be "stolen".
Example, Gov't splicing into underwater fiber optic cables and redirecting traffic to a data center...
Understand the tech.. please.2 -

Having to debug a program on a batch of 5000 punched cards and needing days to get them to the data center per mail.
Then you wait days to get the result just to see that it threw an error so you begin to debug what basically means that you change something in your 5000 cards, send them back, wait days, get an error again, make a change... send them back and so on...2 -
I need suggestions
I’m thinking about making a blog called but how do I, this will include tutorials that covers things not taught in school, but you wished you knew how to do.
So right now I have ideas like:
How to write zsh plugins
How to scrape the web(scrape html or sending request)
How to write chrome plugins
How to center a div in different ways
How to write backend codes in js
How to setup an interactive website on a server with domain
But I need more, I need suggestions.8 -
- Never lie, if you get the job and they find out you lied on something you have a problem
- Never say "oh this company is too good it will never accept me with my grades", Usually bigger companies have an assessment center where you can show that you are good for this job
- If they ask you for weaknesses try to pick some that can also be seen as strengths -
Not too long ago I bought 3 monitors. Now I have my IDE on the center, console and debugger (and devrant) on the left, git and music on the right. Still figuring out the best arrangement for all windows but this already feels awesome!3

I want to create a browser based Application Hub for my RasPi Media Center.

max - min != center.

Random keyboard suggestion post (start with coding, use center suggestion):
"Coding and a woman of a business location is for the first place and the woman who says the only way she can do it was a woman that has a lot to say to you have to do it with the girls that have a lot to say to the people that are not going on a break with the other girls"
Makes sense. -
So... I'm assigned to do a new development, something related to integrate a Call Center service to our main app.
I have not a single clue on how to begin, at what to look, what doc to read (the service doesn't offer a good one), just trying thing and hope for some luck.
This sound familiar to you also or it's just me?
These moments make me think twice if my knowledge can handle and this scares me!
Also, it's kinda urgent and very important so... no stress!2 -
Guess I shoulda paid attention to that hunch I had on Saturday that it was time to finally reinforce the center of this weak table. This is what I came home to after going out for exercise. Wife wasn't happy because it landed on her foot. :(

Why the fuck can't I do vertical center without 40 hacks that don't involve flex? I have ant this fucking thing in the middle of this img no matter what. (All due respect to those that make even the smallest div possible)1

Our company moved to new place....and its more like "big market" rather then development center...not sure how to cope up with this.... :(

why can't we zoom in on the side when taking a picture? i know some phones use optical zoom but those that use digital don't have to zoom in on the center, right?5

Wordpress for E-Commerce? Is this a practical thing to do... I am certainly not a WP user but thought it was cool to construct a bloggling site or something else similar, but E-Commerce? Maybe on a small scale, but I can't see a big sophistcated shopping center being effective with wordpress? What are your thoughts? Secruity issues with plugins ect?4

Just came across the NERSC Docs (https://docs.nersc.gov), absolutely wonderful open source docs by the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center.
I believe they were written as a guide for people that would be using their super computers, but it's a very good linux beginners guide.
Plus, it looks nice (no visible dark mode tho...). -
Why is web development so inconsistent?
Im trying to center something and it's 30px off-center because of some space out of freakin' nowhere.
Fuck. -
Me [posts in community forum for software vendor]: Where can I find docs on X? I tried looking in the Knowledge Center but I couldn’t find it.
Random person replies and writes a two paragraph response about opening a support ticket with the software vendor…that response could really have been reduced to two sentences 😑 -
Get an exciting new project: build a help center.
Someone decides we will be building it wiith Madcap Flare.
Gonna kill myself. -
So for quite a time I've been trying to understand what does it mean to center a div 'vertically', I googled it but it returns only solutions to center it 'vertically', can anyone explain what does it mean to center it vertically?11

2019. I found a guy, CTO of our client. 50+ age. He teaches a lot to us. In development, I enjoy this year, because this year has more learning then last year.
I start work on 3 more languages, see more possiblities in IT, Avionics Softwares, Aviation systems.
This year, I also learn a lot about data center power distribution.
So this year was full of learning and new things in development and IT.2 -
Sat through a phone menu/jail about 5 options deep just to find out the call center was closed. We make smart applications, can't we raise this information to the top when the caller starts smashing the "zero" button a hundred times?1

Starting my bachelors in Computer Science this fall! Going to try to continue to work full time as long as possible (I’m a team lead at a call center, got a lot of downtime, not too stressful) to pay for school. Any tips for CS in college?2

We are thinking about hosting the first company party after corona here.
Thank you2 -
You have coworkers who talk to code everyday. There are times you are looking at code that you just want to scream at... but it's not your style.

So, my company wants to use MadCap Flare to build our help center. This project is a nightmare so far. I've been trying to push for some better alternatives for down the road. Any recommendations? Preferably a
Some sort of free open source framework. I've seen a couple of developer friendly CMS frameworks pop up lately but just want to get a consensus from my good devrant ppls. -
Do you guys listen to any programming podcasts which do not just center around one particular programming language? Any podcasts regarding topics like universal programming concepts, history of programming etc. At the moment I'm listening to Command Line Heroes (from RedHat) but I have almost listened to every episode and need new stuff :)
