I sent a professional letter to my boss telling him that i will leave after 15 days. He replied saying :

Me: "I'll never be able to do this"
Me: "I suck at coding"
Me: "What am I even looking at"
Me: "Im going to get fired for being incompetent"

A client asked if we could change their nameservers to wix's ones.
"we want to move to wix because one of my best friends can create a professional site there"

Today (as a joke), I asked my class if there were any “professional HTML programmers” who could help me.
Surprisingly a couple people came over with smirks on their face. I thought they were going along with the joke.
Turns out, they were serious. They legitimately believed that they were professional HTML programmers and talked to me in such a condescending way that I was speechless.
“This is called a file. See that part after the dot? That’s what makes it HTML. HTML is an incredibly hard programming language and powers CPUs and the computer that you are using.”
I didn’t know how to respond. Hopefully they were joking.9 -
My classmate just fell for a phishing email from "PayPal."
She was talking about her payment being declined to her friend.
It peaked my attention when she said after logging in, she was lead to a blank page.
I asked if I could see it and it was definitely a phishing email
I will admit, it's one of the most professional phishing email I've ever seen, but the grammar wasn't very professional and the PayPal logo wasn't completely accurate.
Why do these idiots fall for everything?32 -
Dear Client,
I'm very proud that you made your own logo in Microsoft PowerPoint, without any design skills whatsoever, but I unfortunately cannot use the 50x50 pixel jpeg you sent me on a professional website.

So shut your yapping about your personal shit and get to fecking work.32

So our public transportation company started to sell tickets online with their brand new fancy system.
• You can buy tickets and passes for the price you want
• Passwords are in plaintext
• Communication is through HTTP
• Login state are checked before the password match so you can basically view who is online
• Email password reminders security code can be read from servers response
Oh and I almost forgot admin credentials are FUCKING admin/admin

I'm glad I'm having a car and don't have to use that security black hole.16 -

Progression in mindset of a developer trough professional life:
1. I'm going to make my code so efficient and beautiful that everyone will envy it!
2. I'm going to make sure I keep separation of concern.
3. I'm going to make my code at least maintainable for other developers.
4. Well shit. At least it works, for now.3 -

The 256th day of every year is celebrated as Programmers’ Day.
Interestingly, 256 is the highest power of two that is less than 365.
It falls on September 13 during common years and September 12 in leap years.
This day is an international professional day recognized in many companies and organizations.
It’s even officially recognized in Russia as the “Day of the Programmer.”3 -
Oh the ups and down of learning code. One day you feel like a programming prodigy, the next you hit a concept that makes you feel like you'll never become a professional programmer. So much to learn!!!! 😭😭7

Boss challenged me to get something done before a demo and he'd give me tomorrow off paid. I completed the task on the time and at the end of the day told him I was leaving for another position. It's been a long ass time Devrant, but I got some great news...
I start my new job as a Junior Frontend Developer next week :)
I'm just so happy to finally become a "professional" developer, but I'm also pretty nervous to be honest. Either way, I'm glad for the opportunity and won't squander it. I've been working towards being able to seize a moment like this for two years now; I'm as ready as I'll ever be, and I want to encourage everybody still struggling to make that first step into the professional world to keep going at it--you'll make it5 -
Client: I need a Website, You have "complete freedom" to choose an apt design, it should be professional and creative.
Designer: Ok.
~ Makes a top-notch Demo inspired from Apple Website ~
Client: It is not professional at all, you should use yellow color for header background. Matching the yellow in the logo, text should be in red. Use blue borders. "Make it more professional!"
Designer: Ok.
~ Client is King. Does exactly as client said ~
Client: Change the font of the website, use something like this (shows Monotype Corsiva). Reduce the image sizes to stamp size. Give a zoom effect to the headings. Increase the text font size to 16px.
Designer: Ok.
~ Client is King. Does exactly as client said ~
Client: Now it looks more professional!! You should hire me to your design department! And now, as I did the major design part you are only eligible for half the payment......

Dear fellow mate,
I can't reject your request to leave. You have your right to request casual/medical or any suitable form of leave. It's up to the HR to do their calculation and process your leaves.
All I can do is tell you the overview of our team's tasks status. And status of tasks assigned to you. Then tasks status of possible colleagues who can cover your position.
The reason I shared those with you is that you act like you have no knowledge about them.
That's all I have for you. Decide on your own what to do. But consider with this new information.

Applying to internships today and I see this
“
Job type: Internship
Requirements:
- Atleast 2 years of professional experience as a software engineer

Wtf is this????
Why does an intern need 2 years of professional experience?
Isn’t an intern supposed to be an entry level job?

Applying to more internships today and found this:
Position: full stack blockchain engineer intern
Basic qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in software development
- 2+ years experience developing smart contracts
- 5+ years professional experience in Java, Go, Node.js
Wtf is this? What intern has 5+ years of professional software development?
Why even label the posting as an intern when u want someone with years of experience?
Stupid fucking shit I swear12 -
Me. Everyday. I was actually fired for “unprofessional conduct.” Apparently screaming fuck at everyone and telling them to get fucked when they’re being stupid isn’t professional.

So I just received an email from a developer, saying my client hired him to take care of their website from now on. This client counted on me since 2012, so I felt a little... Betrayed. Even though this client was not big and a little difficult.
It's weird. I am trying to transition to something better in my professional life, but I'm not feeling confident of what I'm doing. Sometimes I feel my professional life is ruining. Uncertainty sucks.
Additionally, my desktop decided to stop working today and won't turn on. Oh well.6 -

I seriously hate egotistical developers. Just had an hour meeting where one developer side tracked and talked for 45 minutes about how important and great his code is. Something I've noticed over my many jobs. "Professional" means entirely different things at different jobs, and doesn't follow fields either. That is, "Professional" in one field is understandably different from another, but businesses inside the same field also have different definitions of it.
It's almost as if "Professional" is just a euphemism for saying "we expect you to act a certain way, but are being passive aggressive about it so we can't be called out for it".5 -

How is someone supposed to get to the 3 years experience if there aren't any jobs accepting juniors will no professional experience. Hired by large prestigious company to do web development. Understanding at the outset, I was not a web developer, just wanted my foot in the door with the company. 2 days after orientation, I am placed on a $20 million contract expansion with 3 other developers. All new to this contract. So: new language, new technologies, new team, no leadership, no mentorship. 2 months later after a month of asking for help, I'm asked why I'm not delivering solid code by the project exec and moved to the testing team. Testing team lead introduces me to people on the contract and answers questions or tells me vaguely where to loom. Spend last 4 months building a professional fuck you by making myself a yes man to everyone and their mother. Left the contract and have been getting regular hours with them since (including developing for them). New contract loves me and despite the project execs attempt to torpedo me, I have an excellent reputation and am positioned for career advancement already.
I couldn't give him the finger, but I made him regret lettimg me go. Original team lead has since been released for unrelated HR complaint. -

I fucking hate it when professional rivalry affects the students. I am a student and for some unknown fukin reasons there is some kind of professional rivalry in the higher ends of my college. The effect of this is unwanted criticism and loads of pressure on us, the students, to outperform the students belonging to the other part (of the rivalry). What the fuck.
If you are in such a field, make sure that your rivalry with someone else does not affect the ones who seek knowledge and learning. It is not right to harass and exploit people who respect you and come to you for learning. It not only affects you but also whole lot of people who look forward for some kind of professional behaviour from you. Keep rivalry away from students. Work for what is necessary and get the things done. It is as simple.4 -

-
I'm a php developer
I don't like
If (something) {
//code here
}
I like
if (something)
{
//code here
}
Sorry.
EDIT:
However, in javascript, I'm fine with the first example. I may need professional help.29 -
Maintain an up to date resume and work portfolio. Contribute to open source projects. Network with other professionals. Pursue professional development.
-
Things I learned in this 2 month training in an IT company ;
- the way @marcerisson wanted me and my group project team to use Git (and kept yelling at us about ) is actually the proper, professional way of using Git
- there is a difference between an MVC model and a fucking pack of overcomplicated spaghetti code
- commenting your code and naming your variables properly IS IMPORTANT especially when another dev might read it 15 years later (i see you Mr I Name All my Variables With the Name Of the Function and A Number)
- « if it worls it ain’t stupid » also apply in a professional area
- where ´s my fucking rubber duck2 -
So here's mine!
It's a github for the more artistic; a place for designers, photographers, and stylists to post their work. You can choose to make your work interactive, so others can comment, or you can simply present your work. A professional option is given to present your work in a professional, clean manner with a short URl to attach to a CV or such.
Users choose whether to release their work under Creative Commons, or which attributes they wish, so students can use them in their research.
It also serves as a community and a place to collaborate.6 -
PM:"I don't care how you dev build it, those are tech details, not my business, I only care about the business domain."
sounds familiar?
this is the main reason why so many projects failed, can you image any professional use such an asshole statement in other industry.1 -
Well, I'm no professional developer, still at school, but I thought about this, regarding convincing PMs of you writing permanent fix instead of a temporary workaround: Just tell them that this one particular issue can't have a hotfix, and that you need time to fix it.6
-
Isn't a dev using the laptop keyboard like a professional mechanic using the toolkit that comes with the car?8

Everyday I heard people tell me that a college degree is worthless and the student debt will destroy my life. Im a sophomore at university ($75000 a year) majoring in computer science. What are your guys experiences? What the pros/cons of being self taught / getting a degree? I just want to set my life up and be able to provide for my family21

Couldn't sleep this morning, so at 6am I tried to tackle the bug that gave me a hard time yesterday... at 10am I found the bug, and so I remembered the number one rule when coding.
KISS? Nope.
The number one rule is that your past self is dumb and he probably created the bug in the easy part of the code... you know, the one you didn't even check because of-course-the-bug-cannot-be-there-Im-not-stupid.2 -
Does anyone else feels that LinkedIn is a kind of professional trash? Majority of users there are just for posting out their certificates and to but buzz words in their bio.15
-
A while back I was learning web development so I could create web apps. I'm by no means any good at graphic design and whatnot, so every time I'd make a page to rig up with some JS I would get really frustrated with trying to make the page look decent and professional (not professional quality design, but usable as an application in a professional setting), even with bootstrap.
Does anyone have tips for getting over that hurdle? I want to learn, but I get discouraged by my graphical ineptitude.1 -
It should be noted that no ethically-trained software engineer would ever consent to write a DestroyBaghdad procedure. Basic professional ethics would instead require him to write a DestroyCity procedure, to which Baghdad could be given as a parameter.
-
I was at the bottom of my school and even after I start working as a professional. I was able to overcome my own struggle and become a better person. If I can do it, you can do it too. "We are all equally smart. It is just a matter of strategy".

If you're into retro tech, and think "the uglier the better", the bloomberg computer is hot shit. Check it out.

A developer's true soul mate is a designer. It's like yin and yang. They will make a perfect couple atleast in professional sense.
If I'm gonna marry, she's gonna be a UI / UX designer.7 -
Does anyone else find that they are about as organised as gaseous molecules in a weather cell in their personal life, but that their professional work is regemented within an inch of its life?

Went to a friends house and the mother said "Hey, you're a professional with computers. How do you download a song on SoundCloud?" - How the fuck should I know, did I make the websute? Shit.1
-
Just in : Saw an HTML designer writing professional "coder" in his resumé. Can HTML(and CSS) designers be considered coders?6
-
Visual studio enterprise pooped out on me today. Company says I need to install professional instead...
Well there goes 5 hours of my day9 -
Suppossing that you're a very capable professional my advice is to NOT UNDERESTIMATE YOU. There are a lot of crappy programmers that feels like an expert because they did a hello world.

Has anyone tried Shapr app to meet new ppl / expand professional network / heck, make new friends?
I'm thinking of giving it a go once I'm in a bigger city (Toronto) -
This is a praise not a rant.
Anyone else feel like sometimes they owe their successes to Stack Overflow? Reflecting back over my decade as a professional developer, I couldn't count the number of deadlines I would have missed.1 -
How do you define a junior/senior dev?
I've been a professional developer for about 5/6 years now.
Would taking a "junior" role be a step down? Or does the term not really matter?3 -
Just because I know Laravel, Django, Angular2 and React two companies are offering me double the salary I am getting now. But I love my current work place and I might get the amount here too but maybe after six or seven months. I love it because there are better developers here than me and I am learning a lot. Is my decision to stay ok? What would have you done?(btw I am staying anyway)4

Professional Home File Server Setup.
Using an old laptop and drive I made this. But I had nowhere to store. I have to use Team Viewer to even access it now for maintenance. -
I am too young to be a professional yet but what devRant has taught me till date is "Clients are legends".1
-
its kinda comforting knowing that even professional developers google shit because if i don't practice for even a day i forget everything ive ever learned2
-
Step 1. Estimate a time based on previous experience working as a professional and qualified developer.
Step 2. Wrong -

I just got hired as Associate Software Engineer. Any tips/advice on my first day? Btw this is my first professional work.6 -
I don't like when maintainers ask me how their module works in review. >:c
It always works me up a little bit.
And when people spawn process for something that can be done with unistd. >>:(
I think it's not professional. -
My boss was not opposed to the idea giving me the title "Production Implementation and Maintenance Professional". If I send it to him in an E-mail he forwards it to HR.1
-
Got scolded by teacher for not putting semi colon on the right place😒
I conquered saying that its the mistake that even a professional programmer can do😂2 -
Has anyone ever bought a domain and left your info public?
It amazes me that these spammers can't even make their emails read well or professional ah oll
Like "Google top page)"
Did you really not see that parentheses there?3 -
For the most part I try to keep my test or filler content somewhat professional in the event I forget to clean it before the client sees it. However, sometimes you just need some lorem fucking ipsum.

Pycharm why you no allow me to continue to use the professional edition...

So much for having a professional writer review and write my profile....
All I see is Copy + Paste ... Incorrectly3 -
Damn, we seriously need a more professional system to test (the appearance of) our web apps in all browsers.
Also especially the resizing behaviour with flex items & Co.
What do you use for that? It can be a paid solution, if it is not too expensive.5 -
I often stop and think that my entire professional life with (hopefully) revolve around turning 0s into 1s, or 1s into 0s.2
-
Well gawrsh! Just look at all those "full-stack developers" out there without professional experience . . . ah-hyuck!2
-
just wondering... Am I the only one that likes the old Windows 95/98 graphic style? I find very simple and professional... I like old OSes GUI6

Does the company you work has a specific team for their Android app? If yes, then how big is it and what are their responsibilities ?6

Does Professional Scrum Master certification add any value to a devs profile? I am asking because I failed in the first attempt. 😟4

Guys, as professional developers, what are your views on WannaCrypt or WannaCry? That ransomware is a national news in my country right now7
-
Found this in one of the group's I'm in on Facebook. When everyone called him out on scamming people into helping him mine Etherium, he responded with so much word salad about entrepreneurship and blockchain he could open up a vegetarian eatery.
Very professional. I'm sure someone is gonna land a dream job on this one.1 -
What are some good UI templates for Semantic UI? Want to give my web-app a professional look without writing too much CSS...5

Supposedly 2 years professional experiencd junior - console.log ("how do you like figure out what data is being passed In and what it looks like? is there some special tool you use when you are trying to get the types or correct nomenclature for the reference?") Me "I just log it to the console or use fiddler. " how do I do that?1

well, my father told me that I need a real job. And you can only play games on computer. Well after more than 10 years when I have 8yrs of professional exp now Im earning enough and my father dont know what to say.2
-
Out of curiosity, how many years of PROFESSIONAL experience do people have on here. I’m assuming it’s quite diverse but skewed towards those at junior to mid-level for some reason. Just put a number down. I’ll start.

I have a software developer interview tomorrow. Never really done a professional one as I've not yet graduated but I'm just looking for tips and some guidance on what I should prepare for and what questions to expect. Also advice on how I should handle myself and what sort of stuff to talk about. Thanks!2

What is golang used for in a professional setting? It's a really cool language and I like it, but is it useful for me is what I want to know. Thanks7 -

Most of my fellow developer country mates are so big suckers that they first ask for money, huge money and then try to show there unprofessional skills. However, indeed the right way is that first you should show your skills hone it to professional level and then ask for money. Assholes.

There's this depressing and slightly awkward moment when you're a professional software engineer, Google puts up a KIDS in code doodle/coding challenge and you can't work out how to solve the last puzzle in optimal moves...

So, at this day I have two jobs as software engineer (I'm self thought). The first one with a friend from high school, a billing platform. The engineer he had flew to Canada and leave him with nothing, so I made one from scratch, I couldn't deliver on time and most of the clients he had moved to another services so the benefits of the deal I made with him ended being less than expected (there was a deadline set by our government as these clients are merchants and the Costa Rican IRS equivalent is moving everybody to electronic billing to mitigate tax evasion). The backend was done using Go, the front-end with React and MobX.
Then, the second job. I'm being staffed to a big outsourcing company for a North American business. The engineer team is small compared to the other departments and the people are really nice. Their stack is Python and React, I'm the only guy allowed to use a different editor than Neovim (Emacs in my case).
between the two I work 11 hours per day, and I'm satisfied with this.
This is way better than my old CS job at Amazon Spain where I couldn't use Emacs to have a decent text editing experience.
Thanks, Lord.2 -
First dev project? In Holland we had a social media site back in the day called CU2. You could put in your own html/css and style your profile the way you wanted.
For professional work it was a landingpage for a healthcare related page. -
Doing it at my own time
And not having to worry about sitting position jus to look busy and professional when the boss/manager walks in/by the office2 -
Finishing thesis, Passing degree, Work in a new professional environment, starting Master studies ^^

copycat: how many of you ended up as IT professional because you trust the big swoosh and this guy said everywhere "JUST DO IT"

I know python well but still I want to dive deeper into it, any suggestion for a good intermediate or professional level course?1
-
Any of you guys have a cool project that I can help with?
I think I'm good at JavaScript, nodejs and php
I'm new to github though I have several years as professional web developer2 -
Literally every single professional breakthrough I've had is because of being better at coding than my peers. Internship, and potentially even my PhD. Granted, scientists have low standards for code...
-
I'm not professional I just enjoy programming , but for some reason people thinks I am. If they're gonna get disappointed at some point that's none of my problem. I never said I am.1
-
If I was to create a movie in which there should be a scene with a hacker in front of his computer, I'd never hire professional designers and animators to create fancy videos that can be played back on the computer said hacker is working on. Instead, I'd just run make on the Linux kernel, unplug the keyboard and let the actor hit it as fast as he can. Should look professional enough.1

First year as a professional developer, and this Thanksgiving break is making it hard to get back into the code base here at work. Am I the only one?2

Balancing a professional internship alongside school is a huge pain. I find myself levying one or the other to allow more time to be spent with the alternative, i.e taking short work days to do more homework, or skipping class to get rest for work the next day. There's a good chance that if you don't see me at work, I'm in class, and if you don't see me there, I'm probably doing homework, and if I'm not then I'm asleep.
I can't wait until I graduate in a few months and can really just focus on building my professional development skills. School is taxing and largely unnecessary.4 -
does anyone tried piracetam or other racetams for professional programming?
it works for me, in the dose ~ 10 grams18 -
Just came from professional school (is it correct? - school during apprenticeship), I have to develop some features for a project - and finish writing the documentation and User Manual .. but.. but.. first I need a coffee - a Big coffee :D

It basically gave a deep meaning of professional life. In coding I found my life's pursuit for mastery. The only regret is that I found it quite late and now I have a small regret of not diving into it sooner.

it was all fun and games but suddenly i get a bit nervous since my software will be responsible for almost all aspects of our department from monday on 😱6

How much do you earn if you work professionally. Include experience and position.
Me:
50 h per month student type job as a web dev mostly frontend, 1 year and 3 months of professional experience - 1300euro/ month17 -
Is there anywhere that you can get your open source code brutally reviewed?
As the (almost) sole developer on a project (and only just entering the world of professional software development), I have no idea if the stuff I've written is good, bad, or just plain disgusting, and obviously the only way to improve is to be aware of the mistakes you made3 -
I know this is too late to ask this question, but am a final year computer science student, average in all core subjects with 0 knowledge of web development (except a few html tags, but not enough to make a wikipedia like website) or other professional streams.
I know java and python enough to make oop classes and understand code written in them.
Should i
A)study more about web dev/ml-ai/testing/other "professional" stuff
B) learn more and strengthen my core subjects , like operating system, algorithms, data structures, etc or
C) learn another core language like C/c++/assembly?27 -
Reading Geekonomics (silly title for the book) and seriously considering that maybe we should all be licensed/certified since so much software is broken, looking at you Equifax.1

Learning Python.

Anyone willing to take a look and go I've some advise?15 -
I realized today the I can actually edit my profile on Indeed Prime so did not have to accept the screwed up profile created by a **professional writer** many months ago...
Maybe now I might attract more interest...
But now after spending 30 minutes on this just realized maybe too late.... FCK... so I wasted all morning when I could've been sleeping.... :(2 -

I will love to hear some insights about it3 -

What javascript framework/library should we use TO MAKE A WEBSITE?

Started at the age of 6 by doing simple calculator on zx-spectrum. Tho that's just a joke, not a professional experience. Somewhat serious project was started with PHP, without even knowing the language/theory/databases.... After that years have passed and now I can call myself: professional self-taught programmer.

I’ve been doing a lot of solidity development lately in my professional life.
Now I get that nested arrays aren’t implemented yet. But it is still weird not being able to have an array of strings.
(Strings are arrays of characters and that would be a meted array) -
Last month, I planned to visit a city "Indore" in India. So I contacted some people who are in my LinkedIn connections if they want to meet. They never contacted me back. :( :D

If you know a language and would be able to use it in a professional setting but really don't want to, should you still put it on your cv to show the experience you have?1

Will be starting my professional career in an MNC in India soon. What advices would you give to a fellow new developer. Especially about how would you do things knowing what you know now. Random advices are also welcomed. Cheers!2

There's no one correct way to get better. As with any skill, practice is one of the best ways to hone those skills. Various methods for that. Researching best practices, repetition, personal projects, professional development classes, online resources like codewars, codecademy, learn _ the hard way, etc
