Me and my girlfriend are arguing, because I'm programming a lot and I don't have time to give her attention. She said if I don't give her attention, she will break up with me.
Any suggestion where I can find a good tutorial for C#?37 -
My colleagues treat me like a god.

Nobody plays any attention to my existence until they want something 😏6 -
I told my girlfriend about Devrant. Now she's hooked onto it and doesn't pay attention to me. And now I'm ranting about it on Devrant. Oh the irony! T_T11

GF: "Honey can you leave the PS and give me some attention?"
ME: "ofcourse!"
**Gives her 29 minutes of attention**12 -
Looking for a bug.
Plugged headphone into my ears.
Suddenly part of code caught my attention, started debugging.
10 minutes of intense debugging, wondering why there's no music in my ear.
Realised I forgot to plug the headphone into my mobile :(13 -
No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING FUCKING SQL QUERIES AND CALLING IT AI!
No it's not AI. YOU ARE RUNNING SIMPLE DATA ANALYSIS MACROS AND FUNCTIONS IN EXCEL!
Stop labelling everything as AI, you attention and investment seeking morons! @&£$¢×xo##!29 -
You don't need to pay attention to class if you can hack into your university's servers and change your grades 🤔😎27

"Windows is better than Java".
A classmate literally screamed that out in class.
He'd heard me often bash Windows, I was just in the middle of a friendly debate about Java with the professor, so in a desperate attempt to get attention, his brain concocted this diarrhea of a sentence. And he doesn't even know how stupid what he said was.15 -
*Sits down at restaurant*
*orders food*
Me: opens devRant
Wife: "You're always on your phone. You're supposed to pay attention to me."
Me: puts phone down. "What would you like to talk about?"
Wife: "...I don't know"
*sits in silence for a minute*
Me: opens devRant10 -
So good to see 'devRant' getting attention.
Was listed in

Never trust a hot chick that tell you "Wow you are a programmer? Tell me about it"
ATTENTION: DON'T TELL HER ABOUT IT8 -
Professor essentially doing a dance to show data visualisation:
“Hey pay attention! I’m trading my dignity for your education”2 -
I wanted you to notice that XHR (XML HTTP Request) is an acronym composed by two other acronyms and a word. Thank you for the attention15

When you get creepy extra attention just because you're the only female developer... the struggle is real guys X(17

Very funny/random/weird partly non-dev related story that happened today.
We're selling our coffee machine at work since the coffee is gross.
Someone wants to buy it and wants it to be sent.
Coworker: just the general way through a package?
Other coworker: hmm yeah through post is fine
Me: POSTAL PIDGIN
other colleague: BY PENGUIN
Another colleague: BY LIKE 100 PENGUINS FLYING THAT THING THROUGH THE AIR WITH LIKE WIRES ATTACHED TO IT
Me: just hold on for a second and imagine this graphically...
Colleagues: damn that would be fucking genius xD
Yeah we're quite random 😆30 -
So this is what I received from a very bad recruiter.
I don't even know why I covered the details, this deserves to be public xD
Also, consider that this message came with <no subject>..5 -

I got the job, I'm now employed by Cisco systems!!!!!!9 -

That's your fucking job you powerpoint monkey, I'm writing code since age of 14, I distrust everything that doesn't spit out logs of what it's extacly doing to my console including you, my gf says sudo to get my attention, how the hell am I supposed to know how normies think16 -

University is great.
You can go to a lecture and not pay attention at all but still be proud because hey, at least you went.5 -
I put this chart on my desk since my boss thinks every little thing requires my immediate and undivided attention. It comprises of a few of his favourite words in a vague order. Watching him try to choose the most potent word to describe the most recent whim of general staff is worth a few chuckles.2
-
You dumb, stupid fucking idiot.
Yes, that's me. Spent an hour debugging something, only to find out I wasn't paying attention when going through the API ref. Fucking fuck. Such a waste of time.2 -
Fuck applications which repeatedly try to grab focus while starting up in the background. Yes, I clicked your little icon, you attention whore. But I'll fucking alt-tab to you when *I* am ready.5
-
At work, me and my guys don't say "you have my attention" we say "you have my erection"
Yeah, its juvenile, and in poor taste, but to us its fricking hilarious.
Anyway, at any meeting when someone says "attention please" we always start giggling like fucking morons.
We basically substituted the word "attention" for "erection" and the only thing that we fear is using it in public. My guys seldom have to speak in public, I do most of the talking as their manager.
It falls on me to not say it at the wrong place, and the wrong time.
That is not reassuring to me. But I wonder how much longer can I keep going without messing that one up.15 -
For those of you retards that post shit like:
"fuck"
"well I hate this"
or similar shit that only you understand in the hopes that someone goes and asks you what is wrong: fuck off with that attention seeking bullshit.
Seriously, even it your shit is tech dev related, just fucking post it you attention seeking shitstain.
Or fuck off all together from the app to begin with.14 -

Old but gold.
How are computers like men?
In order to get it's attention, you have to turn it on.44 -
Does anyone else have this dilemma? Headphone cable is in the way whenever I type on my keyboard. It is such a small issue but it makes me fucking livid. Sometimes I tuck the wire behind mugs and water cups but it causes spills when I stand up and don't pay attention.32
-
Today in algebra I got bored and wrote "<hand>" on the back of my hand and "</hand>" on the top of my wrist, I feel proud of myself and I also question why I do things like this.4

LED! Please, embedded programmers: STOP blinking LEDs, if you don't require immediate attention!!
That phone that would blink through the night charging, I had to put a blanket on it D:<<11 -
The best part of our daily standups is hearing my coworker's daughter whispering "Baba~" in the background, trying to get his attention for whatever reason.
Then when we end the meeting and say bye, you hear her in the background yell "Bye Bye~"
Adds a little cuteness to what usually is a very dull meeting.1 -
Action takes place during demo to the stakeholders.
Manager : During the demo we will show a working prototype of new functionality. In this sprint we focused on that feature not on UX. Please do not pay attention to UI and focus on business values
*Dev starts sharing screen*
*1 sec after*
Executive : This is unacceptable. It looks gross, why you don't use default controls.
Manager : We did, this is how they look like, but please do not pay attention to UI, it is not finished
*Dev continue presenting*
*1 sec after*
Executive : I see missing comma in that sentence. It is unacceptable to show features in that state, lets move on to another team.
It was really large feature working as a charm, but they focused entirely on unpolished UI :/4 -
What if the long term goal of @trogus and @dfox is to create a developer army, hell bent on the destruction of project managers and clients everywhere (except the cool ones).
I mean I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Just wanted to... You know.... Raise some attention.3 -
Guys, a "standup" is in the name. The idea is it's a meeting that's quick enough you don't need to sit down.
A 3 hour standup is, in no way shape or form a standup. It's just another pointless meeting that I'll keep on in the background while I pay zero attention.7 -
A classmate of mine had the task to align some content on a page to the center using CSS (using margins)
That classmate has no fucking clue because she pays no attention.
font:10px;
was the only thing she wrote into the text file that was projected onto the whiteboard.
The teachers asked: "What does font stand for?"
Her reply: "Uuuuuuh... Position?"
Kill. Me.8 -
With the cheese grater and $1,000 monitor stand getting a lot of the attention from WWDC, this ended up being a less talked about product.
Idk about you guys, but this is definitely a steal! Plan on getting a few of them when they are released.11 -
Today is sprint demo day. As usual I'm only half paying attention since being a Platform Engineer, my work is always technically being "demoed" (shit's running ain't it? There you go, enjoy the EC2 instances.)
One team presents a new thing they built. I'm still half paying attention, half playing Rocket League on another monitor.
Then someone says
"We're storing in prod-db-3"
They have my curiosity.
"Storing x amount of data at y rate"
They now have my attention. I speak up "Do you have a plan to drop data after a certain period of time?"
They don't. I reply "Okay, then your new feature only has about 2 months to live before you exhaust the disk on prod-db-3 and we need to add more storage"
I am asked if we can add more storage preemptively.
"Sure, I say." I then direct my attention to the VP "{VP} I'll make the change request to approve the spend for additional volume on prod-db-3"
VP immediately balks and asks why this wasn't considered before. I calmly reply "I'm not sure. This is the first time I'm learning of this new feature even coming to life. Had anyone consulted with the Platform team we'd have made sure the storage availability was there."
VP asks product guy what happened.
"We didn't think we'd need platform resources for this so we never reached out for anything".
I calmly mute myself, turn my camera back off and go back to Rocket League as the VP goes off about planning and collaboration.
"CT we'll reach out to you next week about getting this all done"
*unmute, camera stays off* "Sounds good" *clears ball*4 -
I really like the attention to detail Microsoft has put in their websites, they've replicated every aspect of Windows.
Not only the loading animations, the style of the UI, but also the random freezes and crashes.4 -
Company : Posted a developer job paid ad with proper JD and all info.
Candidates : Sent CV and applied for job vacancy.
Company : Called them to arrange interview.
Candidates : Accepted the appointment.

1/7 requested to postpone.
4/7 disappeared.

That moment when you look up from your phone and notice you wasted an hour on devRant instead of paying attention to software engineering class, rip3

I don't like how being an entrepreneur is glamorized these days.
People make you think that just starting a company will make you rich.
But we don't really pay attention to the hundreds of startups that fail each year. (And that could very well be you).
We only pay attention to those that do make it.10 -
Just appealing for some attention of the european devRanters. This is really important:

Ah the classic meeting terrorist....
Us: "These emails are working."
Rando customer on conf call: "No they aren't, I haven't seen any of these emails."
Us: "Is your email on the list?"
Rando customer on conf call: "No."
Yeah fuck you.
The rest of us are paying attention here, can you please shut the fuck up on the meeting.1 -
Best part to being a dev? Attention 😼
(Perks (or struggle depending on how you see it) of being a female dev)11 -
For some reason, lots of people list that they have a "high attention to dental" on their resumes for a design position.5
-
Person who has an attention span of 3 minutes, has never done math before, and has no background in any form of code whatsoever, and will never need it:"I'm thinking about learning Python."
Me:"Go for it but it will be difficult to remain motivated."
Person:"But I really want to do this."
Me:"So did every corpse on Everest."4 -
Just had my first demo here. The resolution of the screen was set at 150% screwing more up then i hoped for.
I didn't dare to show the iPad version. I had seen enough bugs in those 10 minutes.
Don't put this developer in the center of attention. Please.2 -
Google told me I was speaking their language and asked if I wanted to play a game in a very Matrix-esque way. I'm now in the middle of coding challenges and when I finish one of them a ascii white rabbit hops across the in browser console. You have my attention Google, well played.4
-
My favorite thing is my nerf gun. In my office different teams are organized in different pods. You never know when a war will break out between the teams, you need to be able to defend yourself! Also not bad for getting someone's attention who has headphones on...3
-
Please actually pay attention to compiler warnings. They exist for a reason beyond just being a nuisance. If you're willingly ignoring warnings then you're accepting unnecessary risk into your project.4
-
Recruiters trying to grab my attention by using my name in the subject line - only they forgot to change it from the previous candidate. Ouch!5
-
Software development lessons are so boring and the teacher is so stupid. He can't swap two variables without a temporary var. He said that he never saw this kind of swaping before. I pay attention sometimes, but I'm just drawing in my exercise book.29
-
I often want to scream at co-workers because of their lack of attention to details.
I believe attention to detail is important for software engineers.
I tell my junior developers that "it works" isn't enough, you need to make sure it works as perfectly as possible and paying attention to detail helps with that.13 -
Well, I just learned how much of a pain it is to learn the math for learning neural networks. I really should have paid more attention in high school.
I will learn, the hard way I guess...6 -
To me, it seems like the rise of distributed systems like mesos / kubernetes combined with Docker require you to be master sysadmin, veteran kernel hacker and a part time c developer ALL AT ONCE if you really want to shave off time from debugging/ performance tuning sessions. Anyone wish they paid more attention in class ? Lol.4
-
This is quite possibly the best thing ever written. (Pay attention to the licence)

Sometimes am really pissed off with stack overflow, it won't let you comment if you have less points.
Its like yeah, you can make an answer with every stupid shit possible but no, you can't comment or get any good author's attention, he might be meditating -_-6 -
Today I tried medication (concerta 36mg) for my ADD for the first time in my life (im 26 years old).
Result is fuck yeah! I feel like a human being whos able to focus on shit. Im so jealous of normal people having a decent attention span and decent working memory.25 -
Man they're coming today. I got another one.
An issue filed over an issue tags color being "too bright" and "draws more attention than other tags"
It's the "good first issue" tag you think maybe I did that by design?
Holy fuck.1 -
FUCK, I just realized something..
A lot of people are probably aware of the statement "Respect is earned, not demanded/given".
Now, if you are aware of the meme "Press F to *pay respect*", you probably know where this goes.
The statements "pay respect" and "respect is earned" are actually connected. Just like money, you pay money to people who deserve it. You work hard for it.
But if this is true, is "attention" also earned? I often hear "Please pay attention" from my teachers back then.
This is some big brain shit right here8 -
What's your favorite IDE to use and why?
I saw a little IntelliJ hate on another rant, but so far it has been pretty useful for me, I only need 1 IDE for Java/PHP/HTML/Python/JS/SQL
Pic unrelated, just for attention and the LOL's19 -
It's kind of sad, not being able to actually fix an open source project bug yourself and seeing your opened issue just lay there for months, with no actual attention, why have the issues tab then?6
-
Just entered my password, looked at devrant on my phone, looked back on the screen. "Here you go f**kwhit, I turned into the blue screen of death just because I didn't had your attention"
Did this another time while writing this rant. F**K OFF Winderp!12 -
"nobody came to my party, but its ok, i had my code"
"haha i dont have friends other than computers"
"im so sad right now, at least i have my cat"
GO FUCK YOURSELF U FUCKING ATTENTION WHORE21 -
I'm on a train paying no attention to what station I'm at... Only just noticed there are no announcements in this cabin... Must... Pause... Devrant...binge...2

My first rant. My very "african" dad just told me coding is for people who want an excuse to sit in front of a computer all day. An excuse for laziness.
it's funny coming from someone who never paid a single attention or gave me a single penny to support me 😪11 -
Worst fight?
Stubborner against stubbornest.
About a focking fact that was trivially true or false. Fun fact: it didn't matter anyway.
Boy, did we raise our voices and attract the attention of everybody in the room. Lesson learned. -
Teaching a relatives boyfriend VBA so he can edit macros in excel, he has an interview next week as a junior data analyst and this a requirement. This is his laptop keyboard. Pay close attention to the placement of ctrl, shift etc. and the lack of a backspace.9

I used to read.. A lot. Long and complicated stories, where the plot would only unveil itself after a long time. I used to dig myself into a book, learning about the writer's thoughts and mental image, reflecting on our differing viewpoints on the question at hand. I didn't expect action or beauty, merely thoughts which, by themselves, constitued a value to me.
But pulp and especially social media had lowered my attention span to the point that even reading through a short story without getting sidetracked takes a lot of effort. I still value what I used to value, the only thing that's changed is that I no longer have the patience and I feel discomfort due to the lack of sensations.
What do I do? Had anyone solved this problem before?4 -
Fuck it.
If Torvalds completely steps down and shit starts to absolutely suck in our beloved kernel then it might be high time to start paying close attention to Minix or Hurd :P options peeps. Options are good.4 -
Well then, looks like my pihole attracted the attention of a botnet with 65 zombies attempting a large DNS amplification attack.
Time to unleash the BANHAMMER
Fun fact: only a few hundereds of their requests actually show up in the pihole logs. The other 40k+ requests they attempted were blocked by my firewall :D14 -
When a co working waves his hand at you every 5 minutes to get your attention and you have your headphones in and try to not see the waves because you know it's just going to be you coding his function for them1

Probably the most Russian programming language is Python.
Why, I hear you ask?
because every Python app's file is signed with a Russian national suffix... .ru
P.S. that came to my attention just today. After all those years...9 -
This is what pain looks like. I study and do my internship in Le Mans, near Nantes and just 5 minutes ago I found out what I've missed. Need to pay more attention to the email announcements.1

PHP is the best framework for VSCode.
Now that I have your attention... Have you written a technical article? I'm thinking of writing something frontend related but not sure what topic to pick.
I'd love to hear about your experience and any tips you may have :D11 -

I had to disable my notifications for devRant because it was taking me away from paying attention to my children.

Meeting of 10 minutes to review and grade a project that took months to make. Apparently your supervisor giving you proper attention is not important enough, compared to him getting his food delivery.

I don't get attention from single women at the gym, But I catch some moms staring at me from a distance.
It's a weird phase I'm going through.19 -
Now on most websites I'm not one to want likes, normally I couldn't care.
But on this website, one single thing makes me want lots of likes.
Is it stickers? Nope.
Maybe it's that sweet stress ball? Try again!
Just want all that attention? Not for me.
I just really want my avatar to sit on an exercise ball.1 -
Some of my colleagues have a joint birthday party, I'm here with them drinking beer. A friend here knows that actually today is my birthday. No one else knows and I hate boasting about myself and bringing attention to myself. I'm fucking sad today... Should have gone home to my family. If you have a beer at hand, have one on me!9

i hate group assignments. why is this guy doing a class in accessibility if he's not gonna pay attention and not gonna make the code accessible? and the audacity to tell us that "we can fix the accessibility stuff afterwards". the accessibility is literally the assignment!!! you're not doing shit!!!3

The blocking feature is working nicely for me :D i love not reading the absolute horseshit posted by attention seeking fucktards that have nothing better to do than to be loud and whiny for extarnal shit.

I was about to announce that I would do that shit for free(again) :D6 -
I don't pay much attention to my local file system when developing-- that's what my operating system and IDE are for. ...So I've thought, at least.
Today, my code didn't compile. I'd been noticing some pesky 'running out of memory' notifications, and mostly brushed them aside. I've spent the last hour deleting various log files and defragging the drive. -
CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION:
Thanks. This is a notice from Yahoo Mail to warm up your IP’s.

Background:
Long story short a mail server was used by botnets to send out a few thousand emails over the past few days. We contacted a few email providers in hopes that they remove our IP from their blacklists.1 -
Wondering how many of you have ADD/ADHD, diagnosed or not. I've heard people say that many programmers have ADD or ADHD and that it generally makes them a better programmer. I myself have ADD and I feel like it makes me a better programmer, but I have to work harder at paying attention to my wife/social life.24

Taking my security+ exam on Tuesday. Any advice on what to pay attention to?

Hi guys,
I'm a C# developer and I programming (with C#) since 2016. Does anyone know a C# project where I can help?
Thanks for your attention!
Have a nice day ;-)8 -
Today was successful. I deployed an app to a dev environment that worked perfectly on local. When I asked if it was ready for QA I said "no, there is issues that need attention"
I am now the proud owner of 75 QA emails of things that do not work. Luckily they're all duplicates of the same issue.

My GF is also a programmer. But we rarely talk about coding stuff.
Everything is fine with just one problem.
When I have a good focus on whatever I'm doing, I have trouble giving attention to other things and people around me. When doing Programming especially.
So I often feel bad that I couldn't give her enough care and time.1 -
From my big black book of ML and AI, something I've kept since I've 16, and has been a continual source of prescient predictions in the machine learning industry:
"Polynomial regression will one day be found to be equivalent to solving for self-attention."
Why run matrix multiplications when you can use the kernal trick and inner products?
Fight me.19 -
IMAO, a new programming language/technology is like a new cute girl at your school/workplace. We give it a lot of attention and tend to ignore older programming languages/technologies2

I miss the old steam sales where you could bag some really good deals if you just payed some attention. Nowadays though they just develop some rinse and repeat novel game, event or something and the deals are predictable. Max 50% if the game still got some steam (like stardew Valley) and 66-90 if the game is fading into obscurity (Turing Test)

Today I answered 3 not trivial SO questions spending about 30 minutes at each of them, caring about formatting, explanation, sources, documentation, links and tests, and also paying attention at catching questions immediately after they were posted and without other answers by faster users.

Emails from devRant contain spy pixels 🙂
Okay now, I know it is SendGrid's doing and I only assume good will from devRant devs. But they also need to understand that anonymity and user privacy are crucial qualities of the devRant platform and they're essentially what makes it work.
I thought that developers' attention should be drawn to this.11 -

This afternoon, I was sitting in on a class, not really paying attention to what the teacher was saying, when all of a sudden out of nowhere the teacher shoots me with the question what is "1260 divided by 30?" Working with multiple different languages at a time is a crazy fun.
I work with ActionScript , php and JS at a time . So different syntax are ultimate fun . It requires lot of attention

Attention guys and gals! If you are using grafana in your home setup, update it asap to 4.6.4 or 5.2.3. versions before those two are affected by an authentication bypass vulnerability. CVE 2018-15727
In the meanwhile, my nginx config is blocking everything but the LAN ips :) -
I took a bit of a break from devRant because I was way too disgruntled at my current position. Flash forward and I am now a manager at the same company.
Note to new devs:
Make waves, make tons of waves. Get the attention of your superior’s superiors by making things better. Never rely on your superior relaying information, they only have their job security in mind. -
"Pay more attention to the house"
Oh, really?
I'm working here!
Why every non tech person acts like I'm doing no fucking shit all day?
These types of things makes me want open my own fucking office.5 -
Question:
I am planning to learn machine learning and deep learning. I am quite comfortable programming in c++ and python, what would you recommend would be a nice starting point with more attention towards practical stuff.8 -
Is it just me or I think colabs should have a little badge if there are new once since last checked. Would help draw attention to it :)4
-
My weakest skill is simply organization. I can produce great work in a decent timeframe, just maybe not for the project or task I should be working on, assuming I don't get distracted by that email I was supposed to follow up on yesterday.2

If you call yourself a developer or consider yourself part of the IT world and at the same time complain about software updates (all those dumb windows update rants) then do one of the following:
1- write a multi -million line of code OS that runs on virtually unlimited number of PC configurations and hardware and get the code right the first time with no major bugs, no security vulnerabilities, and a consistently fast and stable performance.
Or...
2- stop calling yourself a dev, or part of the IT world.
If the last 2 options are unreasonable, unachievable, or unfathomable.... Then stop bitching about software updates.21 -
Senor Dev:That's great that you're learning Docker. It's a great tool and makes life easier.
Me: *Not paying attention* I like whales...1 -
I created an undefined rant. And it never received any attention. I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm a little surprised. Kinda cool. I could create entirely public but unnoticeable rants.
Kind of like my life

I crafted my masterpiece question on stackoverflow yesterday, but didn't got enough attention.
However I seen already have the answer.
Should I start a bounty?7 -
Do any body know how to remove that stupid 1px border in Windows 10 ,
It's always drawing my attention 😡6 -
Since im still a student in software dev (am I still welcome here on devrant? :P), it is easy for me to not do coding. Specially because the summerbreak just started. However I am going to try and learn some stuff about network programming, that caught my attention :D3

Meetings.. Was I not listening? Blame it on the ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
Maybe society has AEHD (Attention Expected Hyper-Delusion).
Seriously, who can pay attention to someone speaking AT you.
We have amazing magical devices one can enchant to do their bidding; Contemplating the details of such, often, is more enjoyable than what your rambling on about, talking head.
Not sorry, ;).
Also THANK YOU, you amazing MIT's (Manager of Information Technologies). A lot of you understand and even may use your underling employee's as a vented heat sync for your frustrations. I love what you do and thank the universe I don't have to engage myself in those activities. I have sympathy for the decision to give up your jeans and t-shirts for business attire; keep strong, your role is vital. <3
The insomnia is going to have to give me a break. Work in 3 hrs, time for a nap; and no, I don't take ADD medication (Amphetamine). I don't need a prescription; I can procure my own drugs, thank you.
Nor would I do them to get through work, that's drug abuse.5 -
Aaaannnd again a failed interview.
Just because I didn't pay enough attention to the question.
Did that ever happen to you guys? Like you just write a huge pile of code, you look at it, you're proud, but it ends up not working because you forgot one little thing that makes it completely incorrect?5 -
I recently started working as an intern at a German startup and man I love it so much!
It's a great feeling to interact with the CEO of a company every other day. The amount of attention and motivation i receive is fascinating.12 -
let's try something new
(virtualbox only right now - i kinda sorta lost all my isos due to not paying attention to which drive i was writing one to, and accidentally wrote over the drive with the isos 😥 { as well as all of my school material, and game projects. }... i really need a server to back things up to, y'know?4 -
Realized I could of prevented an entire day of our team dealing with a prod issue that could've been quickly resolved if I had noticed the Support guy actually restarted the wrong server...
Prod Issue + Friday == BAD... My brain has already logged off as of this morning...
attention to details == 0
Assuming someone else will fix it/do things correctly == 100 -
anyone who says women gossip don't pay enough attention to guys, specially when they talk about women. what is it to me that you don't think x girl dresses well or that this aspect of her is unattractive? we're at work, it's not tinder39
-
Emily Chang cameo on Silicon Valley just added to the authenticity of the show and attention to detail. She was giving a report on background TV in a short scene.
She does a great job on Studio 1.0. She has interviewed many tech and CEO's. Last weekend interview with Arianna Huffington was surprisingly valuable in the advice it gave to young startup CEO's. -
Happened to me today : one of the users told me he was tired of using the app until the last release came out. It included a new feature which totally changed his opinion, he really enjoy using it now :) Pay attention to details !
-
OK, I kind of liked this devRant thing, when I clicked to register for a new account, I got a stupid popup about free stickers, clicked it, the title says "get free stickers ...", to catch users attention but then you read "you have to reach 30 ++'s on a single rant"
OK, fuck off, I don't want these stupid stickers and stop doing this shit again.5 -
Working from home with a cat... hear a strange noise and turn my chair. Cat is now hanging on for dear life and looking at me with utter betrayal.
It seems she only wanted attention... always. Especially when I’m working.1 -
I found a way to become rich with low effort!
I'll become a python developer.
I hope some fucker finds out that C is durable because it doesn't have to be rewritten all the time and we all go C. The bad apples will fall down soon enough with learning a programming language that actually requires some attention span.34 -
Just found out its 3 day weekend.
I don't pay attention to those dates much.
Even when I look at the calendar I don't see it.
So its like getting a present I didn't expect.6 -
So attention to detail as a programmer translates well to other projects like assembling this chandelier for my brother.1
-
How to get a developers attention?
Simple, just leave a negative review on one of his apps. This will surely motivate the fellow to help you out. Contact forms are for the weak.1 -
In high school I absolutely hated business and science subjects(phy, chem, bio) as well.
Not to forget fucking maths. Calculas and all that shit I never paid attention to.
I chose CS hoping it would rid me of maths.
Fell in love with programming the very first semester.
Now I'm in my last semester and a freelance Web Dev. -
Apparently under the correct architecture, hopfield networks reduce down to the attention mechanism in transformers.
Very damn cool discovery. Surprised that I'm just reading about it.

Why is it so hard to make friends with other developers?
Nobody understands how hard it is to sit on my ass all day while my wife complains about the lack of attention I give her. Anyone else relate?7 -
I feel like ubuntu gets too much attention. While it is good (even though I used it for all of about 3 weeks) it gets way too much attention and I don't know why. I can also say the same about mint. These two distros are probably the most well known and I find they actually lack a bunch of things that I love in my distro. Ubuntu has effectively branded gnome and is basically always bragging like "hey look our animations are at a high fps now" when kde plasma has been doing that for ages. Gnome and cinnamon (i find ) lack a lot of customization options and generally aren't really fun to work with. I eventually settled with arch using kde because I wanted an os that was going to be hard but would be forgiving in it's challenges and customiZations and I got that. Ubuntu and mint can be good for first timers but I feel like they get more attention then they should and others don't get as much.
Sorry for the terrible rant with probably a lot of typos. It's late and I have an opinion, it is always dangerous when I have an opinion. I don't mean to offend these distros or their users. What I say is my opinion and what I believe but hey I might be wrong.
Thanks5 -
Once wrote a function that set the controller vibration to 5% of its max in a constructor in the middle of nowhere. It was enough to notice if you were paying attention and feeling for it, but not enough to think that the controller was vibrating. Still there as of last week

I don't care about God's existence but somehow I'm meeting the deadlines always. It's a new thing for me.
I have stopped paying attention to my work due to interviews and somehow my work performance is getting better and better each day.
All I needed was to work less and give estimation according my mood each day.8 -
Where to begin learning about blockchain? (Google searches return way too much information.)
This has been in the back of my head for years now. And with all the attention that crypto currency has been getting lately, reminded me to look into this again.
Note: I don't actually care for cryto currencies, I'm just really curious about blockchain technology.4 -
All Tech meetings: I think over 50% of people open the video and keep it on mute, 45% use it as background noise while they code, and maybe 5% of people actually pay attention.9

Just watched the highlights of Microsoft Build and Google IO. I gave 80% attention to Google because they have more content than Microsoft.
No hate but Microsoft is running out of boxes2 -
Wait... what happened? Did Vue make itself all shitty when I wasn't paying attention?
Anyone loving version 3?
I like the Angular 1.5ness of Vue 2. If it's going to try and be more* - then we already have Ember.js15 -
Valve
i love their games and the whole model of community but now its just become a big cash grab for MOBA players. nothing against the ppl that enjoy DOTA, i just wish all the other games that still have a lively community got the same level of maintenance and attention.6 -
Why would she contact me for a job that needs ASAP attention and not show up after I gave her my salary expectation, I bet she is expecting a $1-$2 salary expectation from me, crazy recruiters I wonder if there's a university for that shit,
Hi guys, another recruiter shit!!!!1 -
hey guys I am planning to make my first open source project(more like a library) but I am afraid that my library won't even get attention so what you guys say is it worth a time . You know it would be great if you can say something about how was it like when you released an open source library .Thanks for the help community. 😄11

I don't have an ios device (and hope I'll never have to :p) but I hear people saying that apps never crash on it.
Is this true? And if so, how is this achieved:
Forcing devs to pay extra attention to this or some system mechanics/structure or...?
Although i think i already saw things crashing somewhere...4 -
Non tech hobby of mine: bird watching (you may have guessed based on my username). Although it’s a non tech hobby, there are so many great apps to help identify birds and learn about them. EBird, birdnet, Merlin, picture bird etc. I also have a few books about bird watching.
Crazy how many different kinds of birds you can see when you really start paying attention.5 -
I was looking around an internal app that we use, and found this under group permissions.
Glad they're paying attention. -
Lately? Today. About to get on a call with some angry lawyers about their unhappiness with a product they haven't paid any attention to until they began feeling like I screwed it up.
-
That time the Saturday before last when I wasn’t paying full attention to which environment I was in and I accidentally deleted an entire hosting account and had to re-create it from a backup. First, only, and hopefully last time I ever do that.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS SHIT.
In my opinion, companies attention to detail is one of the main things that I use to determine how good they are and if I should use them. This kind of thing where the FUCKING ENGINEERS IGNORE THE ISSUE AND REFUSED TO FIX IT is what really pisses me off. At least companies like apple ship working products while Microsoft is sitting here on their asses trying to make the most money with minimal effort by screwing over their users and repurposing their Windows phone OS for use on laptops. Read: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...undefined fuck microsoft actual rant dumb interns engineers my ass fuck up windows attention to detail4 -
I don't know if it's intended or not.
The crazy amount of console.log in devRant's new desktop website got my attention.1 -
It’s another rubber duck story. I had trouble working with company’s legacy framework and had the senior developer (who is busy AF and practically lives at his work desk) come over to help me out like 10 times a day and 98% of the times I figured the problem out while explaining it to him. WTF can’t I pay more attention??
-
Attention Irish developers.
What's the pay like for developers in Ireland compared to the cost of living?
I have been offered a job there with migration support, but I don't want to go be poor in another country when I have it pretty good in my homeland. Also, what is the industry like, is there a healthy work life balance?2 -
I made my first app after 3 years of learning Android studio in my free times and experimenting on codes.
I will be glad if you guys check my app and send me your suggestions and ideas to help me improve my skills .
Google play:

Amazon app store:

It's a random color scheme generator named Colorful.
Thanks for your attention.7 -
Seriously considering proving to stackoverflow people that you don't need bounties to get attention to questions but simply a wrong answer posted3
-
Google probably knows they fucked up when I click the Next button
And yes I am adding this pick just to get your attention.9 -
So i’m jobless and looking for something new. I had three interviews today and i always mention i’m doing a self study on React.js atm.
However after this i also got asked how i want to develop myself in the future and i’m like: wtf? Are you even paying attention here?
Three interviews is a lot. Time for beer! Have a nice weekend!4 -
Got a high priority project that requires 100% my attention for 16 hours to get it out before start of next work day. Nobody even opened it for a week. 5 mins after the first person opened it, got an email saying that it isn't right and it needs to be corrected before Monday...2

I literally start coughing/sneezing as soon as I enter the Office. Had the same issue with the previous Office as well.
With offices paying no attention to hygiene, another reason to prefer remote roles? -
ATTENTION UK NATIONALS:
We need your help to protect the peace in Northern Ireland, please sign this petition to demonstrate against the governments attempts to block MP’s from stopping a no deal Brexit which could (and some have argued already has started to) result in a ramping up to terrorist actions by the NIRA, RIRA, UVF, UDA and other groups -

I'm thinking about buying a small nas device to store backup and media files. WD my cloud and synology ds120 caught my attention regarding price and functionality. Does anyone have experience with them? Any recommendations?6

how do you guys deal with supervisors that don't teach you the ropes? i need to learn some job specific stuff quickly, but i don't get much attention and it kind sucks to step on someone's toes. at this point, going over my immediate superior feels like the only thing i can do...9
-
Kudos to those of you who can still maintain calm even if 5 different people are whining for your attention to get something done, all 'urgently', all at the same time.
I completely lose my focus and I get cramps.2 -
I'm not that into open source contributions, but the hacktoberfest campaign this year caught my attention. There are so many challenges and events happening... I thought I should give it a try.
So far I got 2 t-shirts and had more fun than I thought.1 -
Was told at work today that I don’t follow directions closely enough and the lack of attention to detail in my work is a problem.
I remember being this way since my first elementary school teacher pointed it out to me. I’ve always been this way. It’s how my brain is wired. No matter how hard I try, I always miss something. Especially when it is a really complex set of tasks. I’ve literally got the results of a cognitive test I took in college documenting and quantifying my working memory deficits.
You think you’ll change that now, after more than four decades of me being like this, with a performance review? Good fucking luck!8 -
How do you deal with the situations where personal problems keep taking all the attention in your mind while you have to fulfill an important task at work? I keep losing my focus due to such circumstances.7
-
Just found this in my Github explore newsletter
https://github.com/swc-project/swc
Nice to see Rust is getting more attention!1 -
Now that's an election done right...
Stupid US political system/media where all the attention goes to Republicans and Democrats candidates and both are the same shit...
Yes I know not dev related but just had to rant....11 -
"You never can do what the kids do. What you do is look at yourself and find your own way to address the fact that the times have changed and that you have to pay attention. You can’t be a designer and say, 'Oh, this is timeless.' Nothing is timeless!" - Paula Scher

Anyone want to help me debug some legacy code that hasn't gotten enough attention lately?
The US government could really use some help. Maybe we could debug it and present our findings to Trump, our all powerful carrot overlord.1 -
STOP! Look and Listen.
This was an audit, designed to see if you were paying attention. You didn't pass.
Don't worry, we've already handled this post appropriately – but please take a minute to look it over closely, keeping in mind the guidance above.
Seems like StackOverflow is actively training users to become unfriendly gatekeepers by participating in SO's review queues.15 -
I don't understand one thing and that is people who say they are going To delete their
Devrant account and make an announcement and post it 1st, as though they just announced they wan't to kill themselves. if you're really tired of devrant you'll just delete the account. You wouldn't announce it. Which leads to the Only other logical conclusion... you're just looking for attention aren't you11 -
How do you get word out on an open source project? The several of mine I've done over the years slowly get usage/attention. Plus they have been small enough for me to completely manage.
I've got an open source project that is becoming quite large and needs smarter people than me to be interested in it. It is far from complete but useable and has a ton of potential. And I'm really not one to brag or try to draw attention to anything.
Before you ask...no I dont want to link to the github...I'd rather keep this account completely separate from the rest of my online persona.6 -
rust anyone? i am a c++ person, and it caught my attention as having an oopish-but-actually-functional new programming paradigm whatever... also (don't know if it's just mozilla's successful marketing) i had the impression that people see it as the new whiz kid in town. do you recommend indulging in it for the sake of trying something new?1
-
Time to grab your attention again with another socially inappropriate really old joke. Hey didn't you hear me with your headphones on?
-
Already languishing custom software project on a test system automatically emails hundreds of expired users asking them to renew via the test system because I wasn't paying attention to the fact that a developer had added a cron job? Sure. Bring on the suck. Because I have nothing better to do than clean up after myself and my lack of attention to detail.
-
So yes, I know that I should have more paid more attention when I cleared the production artifacts instead of my test artifacts. But no access control and the last backup is from september? Sorry, but I don't think that this isn't your fault, too.

I was checking my work Inbox and the first thing that I saw was a recruiter email.
So, let's check, is this my personal email, no.
Hmmm, maybe this is a prank or a test? check email domains and everything looks legit.
It seems that recruiters want to get developer attention at all cost nowadays. :D -
What are some bulletproof linux distros, I'm tired of semi-stable distros that need more attention than the work that I'm trying to do on them.7

Came across these two given by fortune:
1. "If you are afraid of loneliness, don't marry." -- Chekhov
2. I am so broke that I cant even pay attention -
Guess I shoulda paid attention to that hunch I had on Saturday that it was time to finally reinforce the center of this weak table. This is what I came home to after going out for exercise. Wife wasn't happy because it landed on her foot. :(

I want you all to take a little read at this.
I'm going to use the power of internet and social networks to say the MOST truthly fact that you are going to read in your entire life. Here we go:
Java is to JavaScript as much as Car is to Carpet.
Thank you for you attention.
Spread the message2 -
I'm building a script parser to make mods for a game I like. The first step is to write an importer.
The documentation is nonexistent and I'm delving into byte manipulation, which I'm not familiar with - at all. I'm porting existing code from Java to C#, and everything is similar but different enough that I can't always just to a 1:1 transfer.
I get everything working, cleaned up and split into classes so I can write the exporter.
I do an import and the file won't parse. I try all previously know working files and still no good. I clean, rebuild, clean rebuild, run, debug, restart my computer, clear my cache, clean, rebuild. No good.
IT WAS WORKING 5 MINUTES AGO
Proceed to revert to every version from the last hour. No dice.
I was in the wrong folder the whole time.
Navigate to the proper folder, open the filename I know to be good and bingo, works like a charm.
The same project caused me headaches because I had a "== -1", when it should have been "== 1". Between my inexperience with byte manipulation and my untreated astigmatism, I was nearly sent to the shadow realm fixing that.3 -
Reading books. When you are used to focus on long texts, those sw related books are not scary anymore. I can finish reference material easily if it keeps my attention.
-
I love listening podcasts while doing stuffs, but I just can't pay attention to it when I'm programming. My mind focus on the code and ignore whatever I'm listening :/1

Meeting with 6 persons.
One external,
one working constantly with the external,
one who is paying attention and frequently asking questions,
one always typing in his own laptop
and two who run approximately every 20 min to the coffee machine or the toilet.
Please tell me that this is normal :D5 -
I am a 1st Year CS student, should i complete atleast one intern this year? Or any CS topic or subject to pay more attention to?3

I haven’t worked as a software developer since net didn’t suck. But I pay attention and I watch all these requirements that strike me as “worship some trendy technology until it dies or is revealed as utter crap and end up jobless” does anyone hire problem solvers anymore in an environment dedicated to ensuring they’re stimulated to succeed ?2

Question.
Yesterday, I watched movie Moneyball yet again.
One particular dialogue caught my attention and I am kind of unclear on this. Can somebody explain?
"You get on base, we win. You don't, we lose. And I hate losing, Chavy. I hate it. I hate losing more than I even wanna win. There is a difference"
What is the difference?2 -
Looking for nice mechanical keyboards with underglow/sideglow or backlight, any recommendations? Photo for attention featuring Jian Keyboard. Budget: 175$ including shipping to Poland, can be cheaper because I'd probably change keycaps as soon as it arrives. Max. 65% keyboard because I would carry this to my school huh.

you know they call me 'good' which in their speech is an insult. do they ever pay fucking attention or can they not conceive of what a real human is like ? especially one that is conflicted on various levels as a result of abuses, loneliness, depression, survival interests, years of bullshit, etc ? I'm not immune to temptation or corruption, I'm just extremely resistant.

When you are up with the lead dev debugging with a service isn't running and you finally realize he changed the config file values and didn't pay attention to what the code was looking for.

I have a music that makes me go into hyperfocus. Whenever I listen to it and pay close attention to the instruments, I'm instantly concentrated on a imaginary music clip that I used to refine in my teenage years.
Everything becomes easier to understand after I listen to it.2 -
I don't deal with it. I just believe my code is trash and everything is trash and as long as it works well and noone has to touch it, it's fine, so I pay extra attention to making my code work well for sure. I pay extra attention that it can be hosted on literal potato and I do a lot of defensive programming. Also every single crash dings my e-mail box so I for sure notice if something goes wrong.
I know Im far from perfect but that's how I deal with it. I believe Im at least good enough to do my job.1 -
Learn to touch type. If you're a developer and doesn't know how to touch type, you're like an actor with no dress sense. It's one of the most basic things. Pay attention to these small things and it'll result in something huge!1

Last week was crazy. Major clients needed attention and we don’t have enough developers. How can someone not start to make mistakes.
Meanwhile mr manager runs off like he’s outta here and blaming us. Goddammit1 -
It's not an exactly habit, it's a error that I sometimes do. Type 'funtion' when I defining a function. Then the console logs an error and I cannot identify what and where is the error in the code. After search 1/2 hour, I realize, and then I feel a pathetic dev :'v1

Soooo, the most common "rants" i found so far are mainly posts like "hey, I'm new! Gimme attention!"
Might aswell hop on that band wagon too. -
Burr puzzles, I love the way they challenge me, they also improve focus and helps with attention to detail. Great tool for ADHD.
