Am I the only one who is triggered by seeing all of the stupid articles claiming Java is bad introduction language? Just becuase Standford decided to change it to JavaScript? What the actual fuck? How students should learn the fundamentals concept of OOP in scripting language?
Don't get me wrong, I hate using Java for real life projects. But there is a reason why almost every university use it as introduciton language. It's great start to learn programming. Saying that the 'Hello World' in Java is complex and can scare people away, it's complete nonsens. For fuck sake, yes programming should be fun, but it is also hard. People can understand that they are going to learn what 'public static voiď means later. It's the structure of many Computer Science classes. It's the assigments that are not designed in engaging and fun way for newcomers. That's the problem, not the language.21 -

I really hate it when online sources aimed at educating people looking to get into programming attack specific languages. I'm ok with them recommending some good starting languages (ex. JavaScript, Python, etc.) but I find it extremely inappropriate and damaging when they list languages they consider "bad." Languages like JavaScript, PHP and Java constantly get called out even though they power a huge chunk of the web and services hundreds of millions of people use every day. IMO it's a huge disservice to tell beginners not to even look at these languages. We should be teaching the language isn't really what's important - it's what you build with it.5

I like how I transitioned from learning Java to Javascript because I thought they were related in sone way.
When my teacher first introduced Javascript, he told us this is NOT your grandfather's javascript. Next thing he told us was 'What is this?' My seatmate and I looked at each other perplexed. My teacher once again said 'What IS this?'. It turns out we needed to first learn about the context of 'this' -_-

so an inexperienced friend of mine was having a conversation with me, and he was using the words java and javascript synonymously (meaning he thought they were the same thing).
so, i corrected him.
“you know javascript isn’t the same as java though.”
“oh, it’s not? ok then.”
and we went about our day.
three days later he was talking to me again, and we were talking about new web backends, and, as you might have guessed, golang came up.
he then said “i was talking with a noob to programming, and he thought go and golang were the same. i sure told him!”

When I was 11 or 12 and I found a magazine for kids that for some reason had an HTML tutorial to build a personal site with Microsoft Frontpage. I think it was 2006 back then and for a few weeks I learnt a lot about HTML, managed to create my site and upload it to a free host. I was fascinated. That was my first close up, at least, to something related to programming. From that day, I knew I was going to work with computers. Now I'm a Java dev but I'm still seeking the language for me. Maybe Javascript.

Java is an Object Oriented Programming (OOP) language created by James Gosling of Sun Microsystems. JavaScript is a scripting language that was created by the fine people at Netscape and was originally known as LiveScript. JavaScript is a (very) distant cousin of Java in that it is also an OOP language. Many of their programming structures are similar. However, JavaScript contains a much smaller and simpler set of commands than does Java.
Now let's talk about how Java and JavaScript differ. The main difference is that Java can stand on its own while JavaScript must (primarily) be placed inside an HTML document to function. Java is a much larger and more complicated language that creates "standalone" applications. A Java "applet" (so-called because it is a little application) is a fully contained program. JavaScript is text that is fed into a browser that can interpret it and then it is enacted by the browser--although today's web apps are starting to blur the line between traditional desktop applications and those which are created using the traditional web technologies: JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

FYI - I didn't get the job. Which I am pretty glad about as I didn't like the software engineer guy, and I don't think I would have liked working with him. He had this fake friendly exterior but the fuckwit personality was shitting through every gap in his skin.... Im back at University and need to code Java for my Semester Grades. My main languages are PHP and JavaScript.
Reading a book right now where it says "Java Developers are happy".
NOPE aint nobody happy about Java. Sad fucking Author of the Book, go fuck youself and retire. Java needs to retire itself, there are more modern languages available.7 -
Javascript and Java.
Imagine java is an indigenous language to an island spoken by everyone there.
A non-native visits, and in order to understand them they need to decode their java into meanings and reapply those meanings to their own language.
More non-natives start visiting more and more often, and the javanese naively welcome them in.
The natives happily create trinkets and souvenirs for the tourists, and a market starts forming. The docks get busier every day.
Soon it appears that there are more non-natives on the island than natives, and their polity of origin starts to lay claim to their land.
Fights and legal altercations become common.
Some of the native javanese begin to modify their language to meet the colonists halfway, and some of the colonists begin to learn this new language.
They begin to understand each other more fundamentally and tensions fade.
Meanwhile, the more stoic javanese retain their claim to the island, and fight the pidgin "rebels".
The island splits into Java and Papua New Java. The populace of both claiming having nothing much to do with the other.
Nothing but fun and funerals for any new tourism.
It's so sad.

Today a recruiter messaged me on Facebook. Week ago, I left a post with my CV on a programming group-currently I'm looking for a junior JAVASCRIPT (important ! ) /Node.js position, explicitly said so.
R(ecruiter): "Hello sir, we noticed your post with CV on group XYZ, are you still looking for a job?"
Me: "Yes, of course."
R: "We are building a new team in city X, remote work is possible. I will send you job posting right away."
Started reading it, job title is SENIOR JAVA DEVELOPER. Okay, maybe she sent me wrong document, maybe she wanted me to read just a bit about company and every job posting is pretty generic.
Me:" This job posting is for a senior programmer, I take it you're looking for juniors too ? I would happily take it, it's just I want a job to learn more things. Did you read my CV?"
R, annoyed: "Requirements for this position are quite clear, I believe. We are open to working with people with different experience level."
From there, she was pretty negative but I remained sympathetic and agreed to met with her boss next week. After all, maybe he has a position for me.

I hate Java. I was using PyCharm for all my python development. I wanted to extend it, but I hate Java. So I looked into other editors - Atom and VScode. But when I found out I would have to extend them with JavaScript, I realised what I was better off with PyCharm again.

Here's a fun fact (which actually will be accompanied with a source) about node.js. When you import or require a module it will be imported as a singleton. So why write this? Well some of you might feel inclined to write a medium (or other) post about "design patterns in Javascript" where you basically just translate the GOF book from Java to Javascript and now you have something that isn't just awkwardly translated Java code! -

Okay guys, after sleeping it over I decided that I didn't need to dump my entire stack of Java/mySQL and instead just slow the hell down on my development time. I'm going from Udemy to a book to help me be a better dev and this is a night and day difference as my book breaks every bit apart and explains it in a lot more depth than having a video walk me through it. What I wouldn't do without Amazon's Kindle service I tell ya...:)
The only major thing I'm changing in this project is committing to one Javascript tool, REACT, as I need a simple tool to ease myself into learning Javascript. Wish me luck. :P
Today I'm starting the project over, but this time breaking it down and going at better pace. Thanks for all the advice guys. :)
