So today our CFO stepped into IT and angrily proclaimed someone using tech@ e-mail and fake name is defrauding company funds buying themselves... "used female lingerie with extra virgin juice" (sic!).
I work for an IPSP, we handle finance for commercial services (think PayPal but smaller). One of our clients is a big platform where girls can sell items like bath water, used socks and more. CFO demanded our admins found out who and when connected to that website, what URLs and so on.
As mentioned, said platform is pretty big, hence, from time to time we help them with their service when they ask us to, that's why we have a tech@ account. Last month there was a minor issue with one of the banks, someone fixed it and, as per usual, made a small payment of €1 topping up the account wallet to make sure everything works. It was an intern whose will to live is still strong and unencumbered with experience so she jokingly wrote "panties juice, extra virgin" in the payment note. What she *didn't know*, however, is that admins on that platform used the very same account to test new billing system they've implemented and our CFO received an invoice.9 -
My friend build a website on Ruby on Rails for his semester end project. He used Lorem ipsom to represent text.
Our professor thought he used some template and gave him 0.7 -
When you receive a new task to disable a feature that hasn’t been used for months and deploy the changes to production, the last thing you expect is:
> deployment successful
> 5 seconds pass

> you got mail
> why does this no work anymore
Are you fucking kidding me!1 -

Fingerprint sensor is insecure
-gf can open your phone when you are asleep
-same with chloroform, unconscious, then use fingers
-can cut your fingers if it leads to that.
Fine I agree....but how secure is the face ID ??
-all of the same points can be applied to it.27 -
Ever been stuck in a bug, you sleep it off, dreamed of the code to fix it and you woke up, tried it, and it worked??7

My "new desktop PC".
6 core xeon CPU with hyperthreading x2 (24 virtual cores) over clocked to 3.9ghz
128gb ddr3 ecc ram
256gb SCSI hard drives in RAID 0
256 Samsung ssd
AMD r9 something something 8gb ddr5 vram gpu
Got it for £120 on eBay (except for the ssd and gpu). Still missing a sound card :(
I have no idea on what to use it yet except for development but I thought it'd be cool to build a pretty good "desktop pc" for around £350-£400.14 -

What’s the difference between USB and USA?
The first one is used to transfer files from one device to another, while the other is used to transfer all your device’s data2 -
'Member when we were used to Internet explorer back in the Windows XP era and when we download stuff we always used to click run and never care about something called downloads folder and the only issue was that the temp folder used to fill our damn hard drives very quickly?

Never used Gradle before but first impression is it's absolutely trash.
What used to take a couple dozen milliseconds now takes hundreds of THOUSANDS of milliseconds..11 -
Isn't cryptocurrency unsustainable? The amount of energy used as the blockchain gets longer is like exponential?
I read somewhere recently something the amount of energy used to mine crypto is more than an the power used by Argentina.35 -
Didn't realize how much I got used to PHPStorm until I used VS Code for a personal project and got errors from forgetting to manually add my Use statements. :P2

People who tell me they hate PHP, though when I ask said person whether he's used PHP all he can answer is "maybe once".
Don't hate on a language if you have barely even used it3 -
If this was userRant most of the rants would be about difficulties with the app itself.
People say: of course I'm having issues, in not used to it.
I used to help people to use android or iphone even before I had one.
Its not about being used to something. Its about putting your brain to work... some people just can't ...6 -
My brain used to be normal and I used to think callback is bizarre.
Now I understand callback and my brain has become bizarre. -
Whenever I read a rant where someone talks about their first Linux install or distribution they used I feel old. I remember installing Slackware back in 1995 on a 386DX that was previously used to run Wildcat BBS.1

Managers don't understand that there will ALWAYS be bugs shipped to production, no matter how hard you try to prevent or test against them.
Devs: lol
inb4 any comments really, i've seen facebook, instagram, and all the 'big players' crash and have bugs multiple times before, so don't go around swinging your dick like your company's software has no known bugs (don't even get me started on the devrant mobile app) I'm just saying bugs are a fact of software8 -
Create a bug-free compiler for a Lang like c# but a little less overcomplicated and a lot faster. I don't believe a strictly typed and garbage collected language needs to be much less than half as fast as c++.2
-
In the logic that both Java and JavaScript are widely used languages, if we create a new language with "Java" as a substring, it will be used eventually.
Our next programming language can be:
* Javarus
* Javath
* JavaLang13 -
WOW! Firefox you are worse than Chrome! From 10GB used memory down to 3GB when you are closed :|
(had a VM taking some of the memory, closing it made memory go down to 10GB from 14GB used)8 -

I don't see the jobs.
-- I added them.
I don't see the "app-name".
-- Well, I have added them via an abbreviation "an".
Why though? That's so confusing. Why would I look for that? Assume I am a new employee. I would not know what it means.
-- You'll get used to it.
I. DON'T. WANT. TO. GET. USED. TO. IT. Why would you waste time by hiding necessary information behind non-saying abbreviation? Clarity counts.
Urgh.3 -
I used to have a girlfriend but then I once used her as a duck for rubber duck debugging and now I'm single..! :/2

As a kid when I was coding I used building blocks and I used some yesterday for Lego robotics at a science center and I felt really dumb because over 2 years since I was 10 I used actual code like typing it and it feels much better than blocks and just over all building blocks just make me feel so stupid😵2

Did I get old or did I just finish plucking all the low hanging fruit?
When I started on a programming journey about a decade ago everything feel exciting and I learn a lot of things per day (variable,loop,method,class,---etc)
Now a decade later I am more concern with the overall system design, algorithms usage (Big O Notation),how reliable the system it,and how the configurations are set up and how easy is it to change them.
I now notice that I don't really learn anything learn new.Everything feel the same.
Want redundancy? Use more server
Want faster performance? Make a parallel system.
Want program to run on low end device? Think about how memory and storage will be used in system.
Is this a stage everyone went through like puberty? or I am just having a mid life crisis?
PS : I haven't even reach 30 yet but I feel too old.4 -
First time used the TDD approach. I knew I needed to use it but never quite used it cause I thought it would slow me down. I was so wrong!
Mocha and chai js rock 🤘5 -
How do you guy (think of) prototype UI?
I have used the pen and paper approach but when you add the interactions such as clicks and animation on the paper,it become messy.
I feel that coding up a full blown front end for prototyping is overkill. Because when you want to prototype the list , you also need to insert the dummy data in order for you see probably clicks and drag animation.11 -
Actors/Use cases and analysis modeling approaches as a whole are for retards that require pictures for everything they do.
Designing this shit is time consuming and should be delegated to simple board drawing rather than full featured software that can develop this monumental waste of time.
Change my mind5 -
Has anyone used python within cyber security?
I really want to get into cyber security. I'm curious what programming languages are used within that industry.4 -
I used to not care whether I used light or dark themes, so I mostly used the light theme in IDEs. But, seeing as all of you like dark theme so much, I decided to only use dark theme.
Now my eyes burn when looking at white surfaces.7 -
I recently decided to try out vim. I've got to say, I fucking love it!!! And since I hear you can customize it, I'm super looking forward to that!!!
Not that in quitting on Sublime or anything, I do want to give vim a try.2 -

What BackEnd framework you used and Why?
I will go first, I use Phoenix (Elixir) because it is Fast and high tolerance on errors. I used ASP.NET because I am forced to. (Company choice)22 -

The first computer I used as a youngster was an iMac G3. We made flow charts and it was magical. I used any excuse possible to get on the computer and make a flow chart.

Two kinds of retro PC

- used to cost $150, can comfortably work off of 4 AA batteries a week
Both perform the same. -
Up until maybe 7th grade (I am now 19 and a first-year in uni) I used Internet Explorer. Even when Firefox was out and about, I still used Internet Explorer. Now, I use chrome and Firefox interchangeably1

C/C++ - complex, very fast, used for OS dev
Java - Comparatively easy, fast, used app dev
Python - very easy, comparitively slow, used for app dev
Then there is this boy
Rust - Just fucks you up10 -
It's been weeks now since I looked through a language, called S-SIZE, filetype .ssz) that is so little used around (I think it's only used is for a game engine clone called Ikemen) that I can't find much documentation or talk about it on Google.
I'm kinda surprised actually. Is it kind of a common thing to see languages used for a single application?2 -
I definitely need some stickers to hide scratches on my laptop! who else has a used and abused laptop?2

Rust's Result is definitely the best error-handling experience I have ever had. I started working on some Typescript stuff after using Rust for a few weeks and had to implement my own Result. It's just so easy and clean that it leaves exceptions in the dust. I don't think I can live without Results anymore.
Now I understand why everyone loves rust so much. It's just so clean, safe, easy (after you get the hang of it) and so fucking powerful (procedural macros are awesome).
I want to use Rust everywhere now <35 -
I've only used Cordova for cross platform mobile app development, I want to try Qt, has anyone used it before? Would you recommend it? Thanks.4

Fast one for you guys

Interesting to see that they used comments for more than just readability, much like we do today!1 -
You used to think that it was so easy.
You used to say that it was so easy.
But you’re tryin’, you’re tryin’ now.8 -
"highly" is highly used, overused and abused when its used almost everywhere! highly fucking annoying.1

So this is really a thing. I'm used to have yarn build/dist/watch and serve commands but my collage is used to laravel mix, and we working with static URLs like client.local. I'm used to localhost:xxxx which is better because you can use hmr. So what do you guys name your development build command and the one for production?? convention

I have grown used to hunting for ; issues. But when my haskell doesn't compile because my work partner used notepad and tabs instead of gedit and spaces... I suffer ;-;1

I just uninstalled Anaconda Python because it takes up about 8GB... and I don't remember the last time I used it...
That being said I did sort of use Python last week at work... though even that's rare, just that I had a project used to analyze logs I wrote over a year ago... that needed to be used.11 -
Just used perl on my personal project to tie all the tests together. First time using perl, very happy with the results even though I've never used it before. It feels like a cleaner, better shell.

At starting of my professional career I was part of an android project for a big credit card company. I used love the UI and colors in it. With all the tablets and phones around, people used to see me like a geek 😀
But UI guidelines and UX of that project, never got such extensive guidelines again. It used to make the development so easy. -
Anyone used Kickflip sdks in their android or iOS app? Kickflip.io
