Now that I am coding for money, the motivation to learn and build new things is gone. It has become all about money for me now. I get tired after coding all day and I can’t open my personal laptop to learn new things and do some more.. well.. coding.

For me it's having everything make sense and a logical flow through the code and it works every if it is adding two vars.

Not only coding, but studying Computer Science has changed a lot in my life. For example, learning about CPU scheduling algorithms made me manage time for my personal tasks a lot better. Earlier I used to waste a lot of time by doing tasks in out of sync order. Also coding made me realize how dumb most people are!3

not really a rant but the more i code, the more fun it gets. i havent really dived this deep into coding and allowing myself to take most of my time doing it has made it more interesting for me. now i want to learn more and start creating personal projects aside from real university projects. people may think its weird that i have been devoting a lot of my time writing code, but i guess they just dont understand the difference of coding for grades and coding for fun.

I have been coding for 2 years, 1 month at a company
Teammate1 has been coding for a year, a genius, learns everything in a week, knows all major js frameworks, refuses to adhere to any rules except no rebase on pushed (luckily)
Teammate2 has been coding for a year, learns slowly, very reliable, has no common sense at all
Teammate3 the designer, really has the skills but always busy, never has time for a meeting, gets very mad if it looks different from her original plan.
We're all college students short of money so they all want to work for clients. I don't have the leadership skills / charisma for this.1 -

It’s very annoying that at my school we barely get any coding at all and to top it off it’s in a typing class using block coding. Considering it’s in a TYPING class you’d think they’d’ve used their typing skills to use but no, they instead use block coding meant for like 4th graders. This is why I say we need more coding classes in schools. Not only that but make it more mainstream1

I have 2 laptops. I use 1 for coding and 1 for gaming.
For some reason, the coding laptop keeps giving BSOD once in a while, but the other one never gave BSOD.
Believe me, I've had it longer (the gaming one), don't shut it down or restart often and they both run the exact same windows build versions! 🙄🙄4 -
I did my biggest mistake of my coding life today (I've been coding for two months).
I did a program in my coding class. I said to myself : "I will try when it will be done". After 3 hours of coding, I finished the code. I tried it and... almost all of my script was trash. Best feeling ever.2 -

Funnily enough my initial experience with Java at uni dampened my enthusiasm for programming I had harboured as a kid. Discontinued the course and studied something else. Cue three years later; took an elective programming in C and some other coding subjects and fell in love with coding. Ended up writing code for my bachelor thesis, lots of free time coding, teaching the elective I had taken only a year before, and now it's my job and I love it. :)

I just read about the 'Learn to Code' nonsense. It seems some journalists told coal miners to learn coding for a living. Wtf.. As a person doing formal CS education after 1 year of work, i take offense for that comment. Interviewing is a skill. Technical interviewing is a skill related to but not totally based on coding knowledge. You need to flex this muscle.
Try mock coding interviews with friends. Set up interviews at places you don't necessarily want to work at. Take coding interviews even when you're not looking for a job. -
