Why are the fastest laptops always considered "gaming" laptops and look like fucking alien spaceships? 😩

"I don't use Linux because you can't game on Linux"
Shut your fucking cocksucking mouth.
Yes, support isn't the greatest and a lot of games don't work on Linux yet and some graphical drivers don't work.
But don't fucking say you can't game on Linux because you fucking can.
Steam has a Linux game library that keeps on growing and growing.
There are some platforms for games especially for Linux as well even.
I've seen steam games with freaking high requirements run with any lag on Linux computers - open source amd drivers worked well.
The support could be much better (of games/drivers) but YOU CAN FUCKING GAME ON LINUX.
THAT YOUR GAME DOESN'T RUN ON LINUX DOES NOT MEAN THAT NO SINGLE GAME DOES.
MOTHERFUCKER115 -
After a year of planning and researching and waiting. I finally realised. Fuck it. Let’s fucking do it already. So over the next 2 months, I’m gonna get other parts and have a real fucking rig ready.37

This weekend I took a break from programming and online courses. 2 days of pure video gaming. Haven't done that in months.
I regret nothing.6 -
Hi guys. This is my first ever post so just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. It's really nice to be a part of your community and I will look forward to laughing my @ss of at all your posts.
Here is a pic of my coding/ gaming set up for your viewing pleasure.
See you in the comments 😊

Do you know that feel when some relatives ask you why you are "gaming" all the time, while in reality you just released a new version of a library you wrote and wanted to get it right?7

I applied for a job in a small gaming company. They rejected me by saying they can’t hire students.
I was cool with it because they didn’t waste my time and told me their decision right away. I started my own gaming company.
Fast forward 6 months later I went back with a business proposition. They accepted it. Its been 8 months now. Everything is going smooth.13 -
Gaming on Linux:
Linux doesn't have many games..
Why? Because the market share is small.. But why is that? Because Linux doesn't have many games. FUCK29 -
Gaming anytime!
The reason I become intrested in computers was gaming.
Given I started out as a game dev, playing games helps me think more about it and imporve my skills.
Also sometimes it reduces my productivity :P3 -
I feel a bit bad.
My family left for the weekend sonim all alone at home.
I told everybody else not to bother me so could code.
Instead i went to buy soda, sandwich food, beer, papers and smokes (i quit smoking 6months ago ;)) and played video games for the last 2 days.7 -
Hey thanks Windows for automatically wasting my data on these two beautiful games.
I had to install windows only for gaming. And windows gives me these 😑13 -
Finally I'm taking gaming out of life. I've realized it's not possible to continue both of them.

Really?? A *gaming browser*??
What a sorry attempt at grabbing your first 10 users, Opera. There's a lot of "gaming" gear out there that's nothing more than a double-price gimmick with RGB lights, but this takes the cake.
Absolutely ridiculous. You should be ashamed for making such an abomination.20 -

Anybody do any cloud gaming? As a Linux user, I lack access to a reliable Windows gaming machine, so I rent one through paperspace, and pay 40¢ an hour to stream gameplay though parsec to my Linux desktop.
I've been playing a lot of Subnautica lately with it. How about you?13 -
So I'm flabbergasted at the current trend of non-native Linux gaming becoming so stable and performant. In these past few months, I've witnessed stability akin to native support on games I had never expected to run well on Linux before.
DXVK had its initial release in January 2018, and so far every single game I've thrown it at has run so well that I forget it's non-native.
With front-ends like Lutris, it's easier than ever to get these non-native titles configured perfectly - to say nothing about what Proton offers for UX.
What will the 2nd year of DXVK bring? Extended Support for Windows 7 ends in one year - and I've never seen such stability and capability from Linux gaming parity.2 -
Why the fuuuck does this happen to my half a year old computer? 🙄
PS. don't judge, this is just for gaming. Linux otherwise.18 -
Difference between Thermal Paste And Thermal Pads
As we all know that the surface of the CPU or a heat sink is not flat. So the uneven surface of both types of equipment give rise to the small gaps, and these small gaps are poor in thermal conductivity, as a result, the Gaming Computer gets heated off quickly.
To fill these gap we require a thermal conductive which delivers the entire heat coming out from the CPU to the heatsink and there comes the role of Thermal paste or Thermal pads for more info about thermal paste see here (https://glinkster.com/best-thermal-...)
But the real question here is which should you chose to avoid heating problems? Is it either thermal paste or thermal pads? So without wasting much time let's get to know what are the basic differences and when you should apply what?
What is the difference between thermal paste and thermal pads?
Thermal paste or thermal compound actually it has a lot of names. Thermal paste is a greasy conductive paste directly applied to the heatsink. It is most commonly used as the interface in between the non-conductive parts for the cooling purpose. A good thermal paste made with the best quality of thermal compound can work well for the system. To apply thermal paste, you have to very careful as you have can also sometimes drop it near to the main CPU. But this is not the only option to fill the holes in between the CPU and the heatsink, there is one more thing that you can use is Thermal Pads.
Thermal Pads
Thermal pads are easy to put as compare to thermal pastes. But they are not as effective as compare to the thermal paste. You will find some stock coolers come with thermal pads as it looks clean. If sometimes you have to replace the heatsink, then you have to remove the pad too. So remember whenever you remove the heatsink ot dismount it, always change the thermal pad.
Common Mistakes you have to avoid
There are some common mistakes that a lot of people make while applying the thermal paste or thermal pads.
1) Never use thermal paste and thermal pads together.
2) But you can use thermal paste on the top of the thermal pads to improve the efficiency.
3) Use of two or three pads altogether can kill the performance of the CPU.10 -

Finally dumped windows from my tower/gaming rig!!!
I'm now running Ubuntu Budgie and Windows 10 inside a qemu/kvm VM with gpu passthrough. That way I have almost-native performance and no additional setup effort for installing games.7 -
People talk about how they would love to switch to Linux, but cannot, as they claim that gaming lives on Windows. This may have been the case ten years ago but it isn't now.
And further, Microsoft is working hard to break steam, humble, gog, and any other delivery systems they do not control. Such anti-consumer behavior should not be tolerated, let alone rewarded. One result of this is that almost every indie game that comes out now has native Linux support within months, if not on day 1.
The only weak spot is AAA games. But as AAA games and mobile games begin to converge, in terms of the subscription/microtransaction models they're both moving toward, with very few exceptions, I personally don't think I'm really missing anything when I see a Windows-only game for $60 with no Linux support.
And if I really want, I can play un-wine-able Windows games through parsec, though that's getting rarer and rarer all the time.11 -

I always found this video a must-watch for game-developers.
It's a long video, and he kinda sounds like a fanboy at times (especially in the beginning).
But he makes some great points about the modern gaming industry.

Being smart but not applying yourself is the same as being stupid.
I've been having a rough semester , as I sat around and played video games for the first few weeks.
Ever since I stopped gaming I started doing more code stuff, and getting things done.
In hindsight, I probably shouldve stopped gaming when the semester started.

I see articles going -> "Here's the future of gaming. blah...blah...blah..."
I already know the future of gaming is trash (no matter how many VR glasses u throw at it), because the current state of gaming is a flaming pile of shit.
I'm still hurt by what Cyberpunk 2077 did to the gaming industry. They relayed the message across like -> "Hey you can release any pile of shit mid-development 'game', charge full price of $60 for it and just promise incremental updates over the years."9 -

Okay,
So it began like I started my college for a CS degree and my parents asked me to look for a laptop. I started to search gaming rigs. Most bang for the buck. After wasting 2 weeks in analysing all the gaming laptops in the market, their fuckin cooling systems, heat pipes, SSD speeds, and what not, I finally decided to go for a ROG. My parents said that gaming laptops aren't good. They are heavy, etc. Okay. I then looked up for ultrabooks, like zenbook, envy, spectre, x1, etc. My parents said that a decent laptop would come for $700-800, and that's the price range I was searching in. After literally 2 weeks of mad searching, I finally decide to get an AMD ultrabook. I told my parents my final choice.
My parents:-
Oh! We didn't meant that. We just asked you to look for one. We ain't buying you one right now. If you still want a machine, we'll get you a $100 chromebook on your next birthday.
P.s:- My last birthday was 7 days ago😑10 -

Tried to fix my Logitech gaming mouse. well it's not more broken it's very slightly less broken. It powers up for a moment2
-
Not Another Gaming Rant!
In gaming, the keyboard and mouse is far superior to a console controller.
So much so it's almost like cheating, gamers are beginning to notice this on the X-Box where traditionally all players in a game would only use a controller.
Now that console players are up against mouse and keyboard players they are out matched and out maneuvered, a great example of this can be seen in live multiplayer Call of Duty games such as Infinite Warfare where the keyboard warrior will spend more time in the air effortlessly jumping from wall to wall gaining an advantage over their opponent.
Multiplayer games should always be evenly matched providing players the ability to compare their level of skill in a competition on a level playing field.14 -
I was looking for alternatives of MC that are atleast usable, and found a thing called Minetest. This apparently is a Voxel Engine/Scriptable game, where you create games, that consist of mods/modules and other resources.
The cool part of it is, that mods and games etc. get handled by the game itself in a package manager type fashion, so the only thing you as a user have to do is selecting them in the ui, and putting them into your world.
It's this easy because the content is managed by a content database. This engine is built with multiplayer support by default.
Now comes the interesting part: apparently a few devs sat together and made a whole MC clone in this engine, and have called it Mineclone 2. I was testing it recently on a server and have to say, that it doesn't appear to be some low effort clone, but to my surprise is an actual playable and nicely looking game. So far i'm having fun with playing and even modding it.
Since the core is written in C++ and the mods and games content is written in LUA, you can easily writte new stuff for it, and even look at other mods stuff, to find out how to make it compatible or how to do certain things. The licenses usually allows to reuse and redistribute.
If you're looking for something like that, give Minetest + Mineclone2 a spin.6 -
This is going to have all manner of impact on everything in gaming

Yes this is kind of a rant and will probably open a can of worms (Although I would hope people are civil with this)
Why the hell is the gaming community so volatile when it comes to discussing someone personal gaming platform whether it be a gaming PC, Xbox, play station or switch, I myself own a gaming pc yet I will choose to play a game on my xbox one any day of the week, I use my pc for mainly media consumption when programming and just generally for internet use.
Just curious if there are any developers on here who share my view that a platform is just a platform?5 -
!rant
Ok guys, I feel like seeing a genuine civil chat here so here we go!
What is everyone's opinion on the way the gaming industry is going, I mean with everything going for the 4K and all the shit that goes on between Console and PC gaming (I'm a console gamer).
And, if you are a game developer, how has this push for 4K and everything must be 3D and photo realistic effected your work?12 -
Hey everyone!
This is really two things in one:
1). Asking about a good gaming laptop.
2). Follow up on a post I made a while back asking for suggestions for new programming languages to learn
So right now I have a surface pro 3 i7 256gb, it's great for development, but not so great for gaming (Overwatch).
Saw the Razer Blade Stealth and thought it looked pretty nifty. Suggestions?
Also I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who told me about some really cool new languages, like Crystal, Elixir..etc.
Thanks everyone!20 -

Some gamers: *Gaming sucks now*
Also, those gamers: *Plays only FPS games*
Like dude, there are so many genres with amazing games that you would have a new game to play every day if you wanted. But oh no, I only play COD and Fortnite and because they suck, every other game in existence must also suck.
Stop playing the same damn games then, maybe you will enjoy gaming once more.
Also, I feel like people complain about FPS games because they expect to win every single match, which is impossible. You will meet sweats and tryhards. That's the reality of any multiplayer game.5 -
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that will say gaming.
Because of gaming I've been in contact with computers a lot and learned a bunch of things that would become useful as the base for learning coding.
Things as simple as using and abusing the file system, file locking and files principles, Googling stuff, etc.4 -
Alright, as some of you already know, I got a gaming PC recently. I have a PS4 and an Xbox one but this is the first time I'm about to play PC games properly with a GTX 1070. I'm extremely thrilled. So please PC gaming masters help me to find good games. I play Forza Horizon 3 now. I love that game. I need to get another game or two. I was looking at Mafia 3, new Assassin's creed and FarCry 5. I need your help to figure this out. What should I play?21

When Elden Ring come out I ignored it, I was jobless, no money, game was expensive and I got into hate relationship with it.
Some time ago I launched twitch and saw that DLC come out. Struggled between buying or not because it reminded me my struggle with money.
Found that shop in my city sells box version of Elden Ring with DLC for PS5 and they have last one in their store.
I reserved it online without payment and it wasn’t immediate, I started thinking that someone bought it and I won’t play it. Felt happy I won’t spend money on game I hate.
Two hours later I got email that product is ready for picking up and it meant it will be rush hours when I go get it and didn’t liked it.
I work remotely and I’m not used to seeing many people, but well I wanted to play the game if it’s waiting for me.
After I arrived to the shop and went in I met the most honest guy who is selling games.
He asked me if I am souls fan. I said I never played souls game.
He asked three times if I really want to buy this game because it’s hard.
Told me he approached it 3 times already and didn’t stand a chance.
After chitchat I bought the game, paid cash because I love box games and cash anonymity.
Woman cough on me when I was on my way back, I said to myself fucking hell I’m going to be sick and I am starting my vacation next week.
I got really sick with a flu, played straight 2 weeks, I don’t have playstation plus so I can’t read any clues or play online but I don’t care.
It’s even better because you can enjoy more of the world not reading messages like you’re on gaming forum instead of playing game.
Dying from sickness helped me to don’t care about dying in game.
Two weeks later here I am, just killed Mohg and unlocked DLC on my ps5.
In achievements it says that only 38.5% of people killed Mohg.
Now I sit and wonder how many people bought DLC and will never play it because they can’t kill Mohg.
I love Elden Ring now. One of best games I played to this day.
The timing for it was perfect, the sickness, the game, one of the best vacations and one of the best journey in my life.
To whomever organized that adventure in my life.
Thanks, now it’s time to kill some more bosses.9 -

I have 2 laptops. I use 1 for coding and 1 for gaming.
For some reason, the coding laptop keeps giving BSOD once in a while, but the other one never gave BSOD.
Believe me, I've had it longer (the gaming one), don't shut it down or restart often and they both run the exact same windows build versions! 🙄🙄4 -
will move to linux again, this time I hope will be the last. I'm motivated from a rant in which some guys discussed about proton having a lot of tittles supported in steam
got rise of nations from steam working in laptop with freshly installed linux mint 19.3 . (same game does not run in my win 10)
will use same distro in my gaming pc and hopefully will keep on linux for a while 🤞
wish me luck9 -
Bought Logitech gaming mouse. They are doing everything they can to try and get you to get an account. However, it is not yet required. I stopped using Razer devices because of them requiring an account. I hope Logitech doesn't end up there. It seems like every company is going to shit. So for now Logitech isn't a bunch of shits. If they had required an account I would return the gaming mouse. I don't need that noise.
What I really want though is a framework that works with all vendors for added functionality. An extended feature framework.
What does the extended features for gaming mice and keyboards look like under Linux?29 -

A couple weeks ago, my friend bought Risk of Rain 2 and got a free copy to gift to a friend, so he gave it to me. That game is so fucking addicting. I don't know the term for it, but it's one of those games where every round, you start with basically nothing, and you get items that buff you up, and so on. If you die, you have to start a new round. Then it just keeps going and going.
..That's it. I just wanted to recommend a really fun game to anyone who hasn't heard of it. For our Linux users, it runs in Proton and the first game has a native Linux port, so I believe the second one will have a port at some point (it's early access, so stuff is still being added).2 -
If Pewdiepie isn't the luckiest guy in the world, I don't know who else is
wish I was gaming all day instead of coding :/3 -
Why old video games, kinda PS1 aesthetics, feel so much more magic and fun, and modern games feel like dystopia depression?
It has to do with child memories? I think there is something more to that. E.g. Colin mcrae 2.0 although has worst physics compared to later titles like Need For Speed, is so much more fun to play and get hooked to it (if example does not work for you, replace it accordingly).
I think there is something to do with the lower quality graphics that trigger imagination, but i am not sure. What is your opinion ?8 -
Anyone interested in the new Asus ROG phone? It looks super thuggish, and is being marketed as a "gaming phone." I think it looks neat, but 6" is way too big for me, there's no sdcard, and no LTE bands have been listed yet.
But it comes with a really cool docking station, which to me, makes it an ideal parsec rig.
What do you think?5 -
Guys, I have something to say. I've used Arch Linux since probably a couple months after I started using Linux. But today, I'm going to install Fedora on my PC. It's my gaming rig at this point (that really needs some upgrades), and it seems like Steam breaks on Arch every week.
With that system, at this point I want something I can just install, do some tweaking, and go.
Anyone have any other distro suggestions for a gaming rig?7 -
Surprise surprise, Atari is gonna be back in the hardware business with a new gaming console...

I have desktop pc that I use for gaming on windows from time to time but most of time it stays turned off.
My gaming experience is usually:
1. turn it on
2. wait for windows update
3. turn it off
Doing same quest over and over, how I’m supposed to get to the next level ?
I don’t have so much time for gaming.7 -
Why the fuck do cross-platform gaming doesn't exist? I mean isn't the API developed for that objective?7

Anyone got one of these super wide-screen 49" beasts? Gimmick, or genuinely useful for productivity? Don't care about gaming.
Not asking for a friend.5 -
Technically not andev rant but fuck it. This pusses me off no no end.
PC gaming as I used to love it, is ending.
E3 for pc gamers was a death march. With the exception of hitman and just cuz 4, which are both more of the same. Don't get me wrong, I'll play them both because they're good fun, but look at the PS4 lne up. Control, Anthem, Detroit and more, all NEW IPs.
Meanwhile over in PC world we get the 50th billionth Battle Royal and (surprise) another JC.
I couldn't even being myself to finish Origin (WHICH WANT EVEN A GOD DAMN ORIGIN STORY)
sigh
I'll have to get a PS4. I just LOATHE playing FPS with a controller.
Oh, yeah, and a new fallout. With one mode. Which is great because it means I get to be fragged and tea bagged by 9 year old Asian kids..4 -
Is there anyone here who dealt with gaming addiction? I want real world responses, succes or failure stories. Not some third rate blog post copy paste replies please.18

I am thinking about building new PC, so I made a list of components. What do you think? Any suggestions?
I don't know which GPU model/brand to get yet. Would like to play at 1440p >60Hz so GTX1070 is not enough if I don't wanna buy new GPU in a few years (probably 4-5 years as I always do).
- CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 2700X
- GPU: GTX 1080 Ti / GTX 1080
- HDD: WD Gold 2TB
- SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 250 GB
- RAM: Patriot Viper RGB Series 16 GB KIT DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 DDR4 Black
- MB: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING
- CAS: NZXT H500 Black
- PSU: Corsair HX75012 -
I made a gaming website and spent fuck load of time making it scalable. i am only player now. My life is a meme2
-
So I bought a gtx1650 gpu for my old phenom II X4 pc. It didn’t work – the screen vent black in like five minutes after powering up the pc.
I was disappointed, but instead of returning the gpu, I bought all the other components to build a new pc on ryzen cpu. Including the gpu, it all was like $400 and I still have all my old parts to sale.
Now I’m here, playing all the latest games like doom and wolfenstein on ultra in 1080p 60fps and I’m more than happy.
I basically found a way to convert my bad experience into good experience. I’m just off my therapy, so all that bad experiences that may seem insignificant are a big deal for me.
I didn’t knew it was possible to make a good emotions out of bad emotions that easy. If only I knew the way to apply this strategy for any arbitrary situation.
(please miss me with that boomer bullshit like “nothing is wrong stop whining and get over it” etc. I’ve been there, I’ve done that and I needed medical treatment afterwards. “Getting over it” just doesn’t work)6 -
Why do I keep on gaming when I know I should be coding and improving! Frustrates me but I keep on doing it.5
-
Is booting linux from a drive a good way to start with linux if I'm not too sure I should make it my main os? The only thing keeping me back at this point is gaming since it's my gaming rig but idk I have 2 distros I want to use/decide between that I've loved on vms in the past but it's just me actually going through with doing it22

Is worth buying a gaming laptop for programming purposes and others like rendering and compiling.
like having an i7-8750H instead of an U one
and an 1050ti instead of intel 620
ofcourse the SSD is on both
the price are close enough, that is why i am thinking of getting a gaming one for it's capability7 -

What annoys my the most in gaming, is when gamers refer to cheaters as "hackers". THEY AREN'T. They are SCRIPT KITTIES. I'm sure most of us here would consider ourselves hackers, and we can all agree that hacking takes time, motivation, and most of all, skill. Cheaters in video games are the lowest of the low. The just download and install scripts written by real hackers. This triggers me beyond words and all caps. What do you all think?7 -
Why this keyboard is called gaming keyboard it is same as my previous keyboard with just some highlighted buttons.
By the way I brought this combo for mouse only as it was cheap.7 -
Just ordered a Logitech G413 for 78(!!)€. This is a good deal, can't relate why gaming keyboards are around 100€ at all.7
-
Before i bought my gaming laptop, i used to think if i bought enough games i would find a game for every mood. But all i got is decision fatigue after buying 20 odd games, trying to decide which one to even install first. I am still bored almost the same amount when i used to have factorio and Dwarf fortress as the only 2 choices.9

I don't know .. I couldn't contain my excitement .. so I had to post this here. I'm sure many of you here have played Spiderman on the PS4 :)4

What's a fun way to relax after spending the day fighting with JavaScript and CSS? Probably not doing Karazhan! I just want to unwind, forget about moving shit over a pixel, have a glass of wine, and play my alt.1

Finally did it!
Replaced my desktop pc (which I use for gaming) which had Windows 7 with Arch Linux! It was not hard because I already use it on my laptop.
OK it was a bit struggle with nvidia and cinnamon due to missing libraries I had to install which I don't know before.
But it is possible to play games on Arch?
Yes definitely!
CS:GO - works (native, steam)
League of Legends - works (wine)
World of Tanks - works (wine)
All I need is working (:1 -

I've build a gaming station with a raspberry pi for a supermarket. I was running a quiz i also created with red blinking lights for false and green blinking lights right answers. Featured by cool 8-bit retro gaming sound and score printing to win a small prize if you answered everything correctly. It was so much fun building it and testing it in the office 😁

I'm looking forward to upgrade my gaming configuration but shit me I'm lost in all those references.
I'd like the best motherboard with the best i7 8th gen with the best 32GB rams, by best I mean the components that will give me the best performance, I've already got a 1080ti and my current motherboard is an Asus z170 pro gaming (if that helps with the dimensions or anything else).
If someone can point me to some references/names/websites I'd be happy.9 -
As regular as it is, it's pretty hard to be a programmer and a pc gamer at the same time... You need a good easily portable laptop yet you want a powerful rig so you get a gaming laptop and curse yourself everytime you need to get somewhere with it cause it's fairly heavy and also curse yourself when you paid so much yet you can't play on that much of a high config...
The only good alternative is if you're rich enough to get a slim laptop and a powerful desktop at once10 -
I once was sitting in a somewhat boring class on networks and computer architecture towards the end of the term. Nobody was really listening and the lecture was kind of a collection of random bits and pieces related to the subject matter.
So I tried out playing Duke Nukem on my rather weak laptop on DosBox. I was sitting quite in front of the class room, and the profesor could clearly hear my fan working like crazy. Later in his lecture he did a short excourse on cloud gaming, showing us nVidia's graphics card cloud where you could do remote gaming, the graphics being rendered remotely and streamed to your box over the interwebs.
I looked up from my game and said to the professor: "If I had this now, my fan would not be that loud." Even the professor laughed. -

Nah, for real, though.: How are y'all doing? It has been a long time. I hope y'all are having a great time (can sense some peoples' incoming negative comments due to corona).
I built my completely new first gaming rig like a few weeks ago after my school laptop stopped showing any signals.
The specifications are the following.:
- Mobo: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (no iGPU)
- dGPU: KFA2 RTX 2070 SUPER OC
- 2nd dGPU: GTX 550 TI (this one gets a new rant/post)
- RAM: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws V 8 GB 3600 MHz
- PSU: Be quiet 650 W (It was the platinum edition afaik. I originally bought the 600 Watt Gold edition, but somehow they sent me the 650 Watt for no additional charge... which is great for me haha)
- HDD: 2x 4TB NAS HDD in RAID1 configuration (to load all of my games around 2 TB right now. Got the two HDDs for 110 Euro including the SATA Data cables)
- SSD: One Intenso 240 GB SSD and a reused Samsung 256 GB SSD from my old broken Lenovo laptop
- Case: Be quiet Pure Base 500 black with a glass panel on the side
While building my first PC, it was one hell of a challenge. I knew how it all was working in theory, but to put it all together, practically, was a bit of a challenge, but it was a nice challenge. I learned a lot and have a performance gain I could only ever dream of.
I used to play my games first on a Toshiba satellite l750d laptop (around 40 fps in cs:go with the lowest gfx settings) and then on a Lenovo e51-80 laptop (around 30 fps max minecraft with no shaders and texture packs).
Now I play cs:go on Kubuntu with 400 fps at peak with ultra high graphics. It is unbelievable.
I couldn't trust the system when I turned on the fps display the first time I saw it.6 -

I can't wait until I feel like Dr. Frankenstein when I build my PC this week. My first real computing rig!!
Some backstory: My main dev machine is my old Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu (my baby). I took Windows off of it when I got a Surface through a job and have been using that for Windows specific work. I'm going to be giving that to my little sister next time I travel home. In short, this is the first computer that will be able to cut through anything I throw at it and play games that aren't at least 6 years old.
The build is centered around an i5-8400 and gtx 1060 6GB, and I'll be running Windows as a primary OS for gaming. However, I fell in love with programming on Linux and there is no way Linux won't be on my machine. I understand the differences between dual-booting and virtualization, but I want to hear how you guys run Linux on your Windows gaming machines or if you go about it another way. I also have heard horror stories about drivers for Linux, and wonder if my graphics card being certified by Ubuntu LTS actually means that it will operate correctly. I have also only ran VMs on crappy computers so I haven't had any experiences where that performed better than dual-booting. I'd love some feedback or to hear about all of your setups, as hardware has never been my strong suit.
I'll post a pic of my setup when it's done too.4 -
My fellow Linux Gamers, how do you DO IT?? I mean, my laptop is not some beast (it was 5 years ago, but now is old and tired) but it was able to run (not the smoothies way possible) games like Dishonored 2 on windows, but now that i am full-time Ubuntu user and i am stuck to minimal games i ask myself:
HOW DO YOU RUN SOMETHING POST-MARIO ON THIS SHIT?? i even tried wine with play on linux and even Gothic 1 runs like a slug..
Please, help a fellow gamer and linux enthusiast to understand where to look for a more performant experience 😔12 -
Playstation plus extra has pillars of eternity and pathfinder. Surprised to find out they had proper gamepad support. Really diggin the chilled nature of those games. Brought my old "gaming/music/media" PC out of storage because of a video on Youtube thinking I could relive some glory days. 18 years old and she still purrs.
I do not miss this old "3D accelerator" card though... The only "Rage" in the Rage2 chipset was mine at not being able to play most games because ATI didn't think standards were important.4 -

I have a USB 3.0 hub that works mostly. However, sometimes it freaks out and starts disconnecting things attached to it. It also causes my gaming mouse that updates 1000 times per second to operate wrong. Yes, it was a cheap usb hub to begin with. I am using a laptop and I want a decent hub to use with my gaming peripherals if possible. I have an old belkin hub I am going to try that usb 2.0. But I really want a decent usb 3.0 hub. I need something that is not cheap pos made by no name like most of amazon products. I want something good that I wont regret getting later. It also needs to have been tested with a 1mS update rate device like my gaming mouse.

Im helping my brother build a pc, and i try to make him try a linux distro before he purchase windows, simply because i regret not doing so.
Now i got some thoughts going tho.. We both have/will have Ryzen 5 CPU and GTX 1060/70/80. Will there be any compatibility issues with some linux distros with that?
Iirc Nvidia cards had some minor issues on linux.
My brother will mainly use it for gaming on a serious level, and i use it for development and gaming for fun.
Also any distros you can recommend? I had a peek at Manjaro, it looked cool.11 -

I have raspberry pi 3 lying around; at the same time, I want to make a minecraft server to play on with 4-6 friends. Is the pi3 capable of running a server? I tried running it once but it was so slow you could outrun the world rendering with as few as 2 players. Would trying to run it multithreadedly help?
Or should I just resign to a server rental site? it'd preferably be a vps since I really don't like these 'management' sites gaming providers often make - any recommendations that are as cheap as possible)1 -
To work from home, I recently bought an internet connection at home. It has pretty good speed and is affordable for the base plan. The speed is around ~ 35 Mbps. Never had that fast internet in my life.
Now I have this sudden urge to buy a console and start gaming. That would require me to also buy a TV screen. So I'm now dealing with a temptation that would cost me atleast $500 in total.

I recently got into an argument with a random person on internet about the new Corsair XENEON FLEX OLED, the new fancy one that you can make curved or flat…
In my opinion it doesn't make any sense, curved is better, in particular with a 45" display, so it's a cool technology but useless in this case.
Apparently this guy thinks "for work is better flat, for gaming curved".
It made me thinking… really?
There is someone out there (and maybe here) that uses huge flat monitors or when have 2 puts them parallels to each other and not turned towards himself at an angle?
It seemed a random bullshit, but maybe I could find some valid arguments why "flat is better for work" or not. 🤔12 -

What do you guys thing about manjaro?
Gonna use it to separate my work stuff(Linux) from the distracting stuff (windows & gaming).2 -
Well this is in fact just me reminiscing, instead of telling anecdote.
My first PC was a pentium two, the cpu casing being those horizontal ones, and a big bulky monitor resting on top of it; all white. A white mouse, two white speakers (you know the ones). I was perhaps just about 6 years old, and I used it the first bunch of times to play Mortal Kombat, and Sega's Moto Racer 3, and watch animated disney movies but mostly mickey mouse on VCD. I guess my habits of gaming and binge watching started way too early.1 -

How to Jitter Click and Increase Clicks per Second?
If you are a gamer who wants to increase clicks per second speed, you must learn how to jitter click. Here, I am sharing an easy step-by-step process of jitter clicking and how to master the technique with practice.
For those who are new to the concept of jitter clicking, let me first tell you about that.
What is Jitter Clicking?
Jitter Clicking is an advanced mouse-clicking technique that gives you more clicks per second on the CPS test ( https://cpstest.pro ) than the regular way of clicking. You use your forearm and wrist muscles to create vibrations in the hand and use it to make more clicks in less time.
How to Jitter Click? Step by Step Guide
If you want to learn jitter clicking, follow the steps provided below.
1. First, hold the mouse properly. A claw grip works the best for jitter clicking.
2. Start by making for forearm stiff and putting all the stress on the wrist muscle.
3. Use the stressed wrist to create vibration in your hand and the index finger.
3. The index finger must be on exactly the top of the mouse button keeping it just a few millimeters away.
4. The vibration in the finger will make the mouse button click way faster than normal
That's it. You've successfully learned how to jitter click. It might seem a bit difficult in the beginning, but after you practice it enough, you'll be able to master jitter clicking within a week.
Among all my gamer friends who started using jitter clicking, most of them have seen significant improvement in their clicking speed. Those who had around 6-8 CPS earlier, started to get 11-12 CPS within a week of jitter click practice. A few of them went even beyond that with 14 clicks per second.
According to stats, jitter clicking is recommended as the fastest way of clicking.
Clearly, it is a good technique but those who are starting to jitter click should take proper precautions as the method involves unusual muscle movements and may lead to wrist pain, cramps, or even carpal tunnel syndrome.
It is advised that gamers take sufficient breaks while jitter clicking and not perform it for long time periods in one go.
Keeping this in mind, I hope you'll definitely get better clicks per second using the jitter click technique.4 -
Much like everyone else, I'm into gaming but more specifically the Final Fantasy series. The latest FFXV is amazingly detailed and beautiful to play

How to Improve Aim in FPS Games?
First person shooting games require very sharp aim. If you have perfect aim, you win; you don't have it, you lose!
To improve your aim skills in your favorite FPS games, you need to practice a lot. But, you cannot practice while playing the game itself. Also, you must tune the setup to make sure your gaming mouse favors you.
In this article, I am sharing ways you can use to polish your aim skills and win. Here you go.
Choosing the Right Mouse & Grip
It is important that you get your hardware right. It includes a good gaming mouse and a high quality mousepad.
No, I am not suggesting to buy a $150 gaming mouse. But, make sure the mouse you are using has a precise laser sensor and the correct weight distribution. It matters a lot.
Secondly, make sure the grip suits your style. I personally prefer palm grip as it favors fast movement and more control over the mouse.
So choose your gaming mouse wisely.
Tuning the Right Settings
After you’ve got the right mouse, the next thing you need to consider is the software settings - DPI, sensitivity and acceleration.
DPI is the number of pixels moved on the screen while moving your mouse by 1 inch on the mousepad.
Having high DPI ensure quick movement and lower DPI improves precision. So, you need to find the correct balance between the two!
I discourage using mouse acceleration when you are playing an FPS game. You must turn it off in your mouse settings.
Practice, Practice, Practice
As I mentioned in the beginning itself, practice is the most important part in improving your aim for FPS games.
Fortunately, there are tools that you can use online to practice aim training. I recommend using this aim trainer online here, that's my favorite website to practice aim training https://clickspeedtester.com/aim-tr...
which has all the options and modes you would ever need for aim training.
Aim Booster lets you play in challenge as well as training mode. You can also choose from easy, medium and difficult mode.
There are different aiming methods you can practice - quick shot, double shot, twitching, sniper shot etc. I personally love playing the sniper shot as it drastically improves precision.
Final Words
Well, those were the most easy and totally worth trying ways to become a sharpshooter in FPS games. Although, no one can become pro overnight. It needs time and practice in equal amounts.
I hope these ways would help you in winning your favorite shooting games. Tell me comments how much it helped you.1 -
