No, I'm not hacking.
No Linux is not a movie.
No, you are not a developer because you can put "Hello World" on a website.
No, this isn't a waste of my time.
Yes, I will use it.
Yes, I'll make you a website for free. NOT!
Your phone is both Android and Samsung.
No, what they did in the movie is impossible.
No, I can't predict the stock market.
No, I'm not Mr. Robot, but I know him...6
The best time to buy bitcoin was when it was released
The second best time was a few years ago when it was only like $200/btc
The third best time was probably last year before they went up 650% in value
The worst time is apparently whenever I buy in10
1) I accepted this job for way way less money than market value.
2) Approached boss about having performance review because I had been here over 12 months and no one brought it up to me.
3) Had performance review where they offered a big raise (12% but still way under market value)
4) I countered asking for market value and showed aggregate research (30% increase)
5) A week later we meet again and they offer 23%.
6) That's where we ended at, pretty surprised they offered that much, but glad. I wasn't looking forward to looking at other jobs to catch up to market value.
7) Feeling pretty good considering I've never negotiated anything before.7
FUCK... THIS WAS JUST THE WORST WEEK I'VE EVER HAD IN MY JOB. LITERALLY WANNA JUST THROW MY DESK TO MY BOSS AND THEN CLEAN HIS BLOOD WITH HIS LAPTOP COMPONENTS AND THEN SELL THEIR ORGANS TO THE BLACK MARKET, USE THAT MONEY TO BUY A MACHINE GUN AND USE IT AGAINST THAH GODAMN CLIENT...14
Resigning tomorrow, and I can't sleep. Thrilled to finally end the slavery at a company that pays me half of the market price. Exciting day coming up..5
“Our market leading software company has an urgent need on our agile team for a passionate self starter whom is able to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and dynamic environment on cutting edge technology. If you are a rockstar developer, let’s talk. “

My mom said that if I don't get off my computer and go to market she'll slam my head on the keyboard, but I think she's jokinfjreoiwjrtwe4to8rkljreun8f4ny84c8y4t58lym4wthylmhawt4mylt4amlathnatyn.6
Everyone should learn to code" is a movement to flood the market with Software Engineers so that salaries can be reduced.
Conspiracy theory that I just read on reddit and sounds about right.
Would you feel the same?12
Client: Once this app hits the market I'll give each of you $500!
Us: *screams of surprise*
Client: Hong kong Dollars
Better than nothing amirite? :p8
"I want blah blah blah and I need it now! There's a commercial expression called TIME TO MARKET!"
And there's a programming expression called TIME TO DEVELOPMENT, you stupid brick.2
When you have an awesome startup idea and it's not even close to being in the market, it feels good man2
So I dropped out from University after 5 years because I was fed up with it, took a look at the job market, found something interesting, applied for it and got it. Now I'm here on my first day, sitting on the toilet, scrolling through DevRant.
Life is good.12
I gave lift to an old man. Starting the conversation
He: what do you do?
Me: I am a software engineer
He: Nice....... where do you get the material to build a software?
Me: mmmmm google or stackoverflow
He: maybe they are new in market, never heard of them5
Gaming on Linux:
Linux doesn't have many games..
Why? Because the market share is small.. But why is that? Because Linux doesn't have many games. FUCK32
I just realized a major problem with me when I interview with any company:
Interviewer: How would you begin implementing a system that does xyz thing?
Me: I wouldn't because Google already has controlling market share and I wouldn't want to compete with that.18
"We are expecting you to start working asap..and complete the frontend (of a webapp that's expected to take 2 months to develop) in 2 weeks "
" So do I expect to get paid X amount for this ?"
" Let's make that X/2"
Fuck off you dipshits.. You expect quality work and fast work ..then get ready to pay at least by market standards.5
am I only one who thinks that ≥6GB RAM for phones is just too much as most of the time the unused RAM gets wasted for no goddamn reason but the only one being that the companies want their product(s) to look more compelling in `spec sheets` and it's a competitive market so it ok for them to do so...31
I don't know a lot of people in other market segments who have zero fear of losing their job. Since I discovered that my coding skills are marketable, I have not lost a night of sleep over job security.
I'm very happy with my current job, but the privilege of rarely having to feel uncertain about income is incredibly liberating.5
This is reposted from Twitter but apparently there's enough of a market for this service to exist and that's surprising to me.
I understand that employers want to screen new candidates but flagging every tweet that they so much as liked with a bad word in it? How is this service useful? Surely even religious figures aren't held to such a standard23
During a meeting with the client
Client: I don't care how long it takes to complete the app, I want the app to be polished and give the users the best experience!
Us: Got it.
*Later that day*
Client: *wants to implement a new feature in the app*
Us: It'll take us a day or two.
Client: That long?! I need to get it to the market ASAP!
When will Linux shall triumph over the desktop market?
I hate to see games and software being developed only for Winblows and MacPrison.
Why don't some company make a normie-friendly distro and heavily support it, same as Google did with Android, but for desktops?11
so... i'll probably be joining my first job in 17 days.
My profile is *supposed to be* devops engineer (not that i know much about it, they just felt i was better suited for it than java programming (and i do agree)), although, apparently, the offer letter states java engineer and i talked to them about it, they said that it's a standard template but u are chosen for devops only. i hope that is true.
mostly i feel really upset that college will be over, but i am kinda excited about the job too.
wish me luck guys 😅😅😅13
This sort of shit really pisses me off, yes PC has a higher market share, but I had to comment. Mobile gaming dwarfs PC so should we even bother with PC?
And people are agreeing with his point, it's fucking stupid, people should be able to enjoy something no matter what platform, linux, Mac, windows or anything else...
5" phones are too big.
15" laptops are too big.
Mid tower cases are too big.
Yet the market seems to disagree with me.24
Unpopular opinion: I hate when people start their rants with "unpopular opinion". Most of the time it seems like a pretty standard opinion too! "Unpopular opinion: I hate Wordpress" Yeah so does a lot of people! Just rant for rantings sake! Don't give me your inaccurate market research as a part of the deal!5
It was a very old story. A friend of friend asked that how to get apps in my new phone (Android). I told him to check out the Android Market. He asked me for the address.
How Google loost its data Monopoly-
Step 1- US bans Huawei
Step 2- Google Bans Huawei
Step 3- China Gov helps Huawei get back on its feet
Step 4- Huawei makes their own OS to rival Google, the OS can run Android apps as well as IoS apps and has its own language/framework for developing new apps
Step 5- China bans Google from their market
Step 6- Chinese mobile manufacturers adopt the new OS
Step 7- China's population starts using the new OS i.e. country with the world's largest population starts using the new OS
Step 8- Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus who already own approx 40% of India's smartphone market start distributing the new OS based phones in India. Factors like cheaper devices take this market share to 50%+
Step 9- Cry, cause the new OS is now being used by approximately 30% of the world's population.
Yeah, bring your hate in the comments but come back and talk to me in August 2022...12
Google: hey website owner, use link rel preload for images loaded by CSS to reduce roundtrip delays. Chrome supports that, Safari also, and even Edge does.
Mozilla: we had some bug with preload back in FF 57 and our solution since has just been to disable preload per default. Done. Who would care about loading speed?
Also Mozilla: we have no idea why our market share has been plunging. Google is evil.9

Husband: "Ok honey!"

Had my pure PHP web app rejected on a market platform because I didn't use a framework..
BITCH IT WORKS PERFECTLY WITHOUT A FUCKING FRAMEWORK, IF YOU WOULD HAVE TESTED IT YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT!27
Didn't know the new hype operating system "others", but with 704% market share it's gotta be amazing!2
Adventures Of The New COO
So when that new COO joined our company ( read my previous rant to know that story ) he brought a graphic designer with him
as a designer he's ok, more of a old school package designer type, but as a person one of the most annoying one I've ever met, always want to be included with our conversations, talk about rain and stuff
so few days ago, i was working on a website, headphones plugged in, music playing, he comes near my seat
Designer: Are you busy ?
Me: yeah, I've this website to finish
Designer: So i have this idea for an app
Me: *taking off headphones while thinking doesn't this dumbass know the meaning of busy*
Designer: what if we create an app for super markets, like this isle has this stuff, that isle has soap or something and how it'll be easy to find what you want to buy and keeps going on and on for about 5 minutes
Me: *making my voice as polite and sarcastic as possible*
It wouldn't work, every market has a different layout even among same market chain it's different
Me: have you ever been to a super market, they have a board saying what the isle is above the isle, all you have to do is just look up
Designer: hmm yeah i guess
everyone wants to make apps and make money, but doesn't have the fucking brain capacity to think about the idea for a bit and do some research, instead they come and waste our time2
Fuck Apple right in the eye hole for trying (and probably succeeding) to normalize phone pricing at hundreds of dollars above the current market. This is going to make Android OEMs follow suit, and the world gets a little shittier for everyone.6
Got the ideal job right now. Over market salary. 100% remote. Mornings to myself until the rest of the team in another time zone comes online. Working within my competency with just enough challenge to make it interesting. Free products for being an employee. Only wish it came with paid health insurance but I do get a partial reimbursement.2
In 2017, who the hell goes to market with an app written in VB using SQL?????? Especially in the IoT space.
Are you kidding me? Even back when this project started, it was a dead language already.
I can't even.4
Nice, apparently Kingston isn't just selling storage anymore.. and it turns out that it's even legal as long as the 2 brands don't enter the same market and the brand name is a generic English word (not sure if Kingston is one of those though). Who knew?
It came to me, a brilliant idea, a simple solution to an everyday problem and easy route to market. Great, starts looking for domains and writes down idea in full in case i forget. Later that day, picks up 12 year old son from school, tells him my great idea. He told me how shit it was and why straight away.8
Non-coder, atechnical friend comes up with an app idea after seeing some existing app. Calls me, I tell them there are already a few other apps doing the same thing on the market.
Their answer: "Yeah, but just think about it. If we made this app, just imagine the possibilities that could branch out from that!"
Yeah, sure, like I'm going to do all the actual work while you speak marketese.6
Today I finish a 6-month course called "Webdeveloper". It was meant to be a further education but it felt kinda basic.
HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery, PHP, Typo3 with some Typoscript
I still don't feel prepared for job market :/10
So, I decided to post this based on @Morningstar's conundrum.
I'm dissatisfied with the laptop market.
Why THE FUCK should I have to buy a gaming laptop with a GTX 1070 or 1080 to get a decent amount of RAM and a fucking great processor?
I don't game. I program. I don't even own a fucking Steam library, for clarification. Never have I ever bought a game on Steam. Disproving the notion that I might have a games library out of the way, I run Linux. Antergos (Arch-based) is my daily driver.
So, in 2017 I went on a laptop hunt. I wanted something with decent specs. Ultimately ended up going with the system76 Galago Pro (which I love the form factor of, it's nice as hell and people recognize the brand for some fucking reason). Matter of fact, one of my profs wanted to know how I accessed our LMS (Blackboard) and I showed him Chromium....his mind was blown: "Ir's not just text!"
That aside, why the fuck are Dell and system76 the only ones with decent portables geared towards developers? I hate the prospect of having to buy some clunky-ass Republic of Gamers piece of shit just to have some sort of decent development machine...
This is a notice to OEMs: yall need to quit making shit hardware and gaming hardware with no mid-range compromise. Shit hardware is defined as the "It runs Excel and that's all the consumer needs" and gaming hardware is "Let's put fucking everything in there - including a decent processor, RAM, and a GTX/Radeon card."
Mid-range that is true - good hardware that handles video editing and other CPU/RAM-intensive tasks and compiling and whatnot but NOT graphics-intensive shit like gaming - is hard to come by. Dell offers my definition of "mid-range" through Sputnik's Ubuntu-powered XPS models and what have you, and system76 has a couple of models that I more or less wish I had money for but don't.
TBH I don't give two fucks about the desktop market. That's a non-issue because I can apply the logic that if you want something done right, do it yourself: I can build a desktop. But not a laptop - at least not in a feasible way.31
I'm kind of disgruntled that I've only worked with one ninja level developer in my career (small market) and he was an insane dick. Despite my hatred, I treated him kindly and respected him. I wanted to learn from him but he didn't want to teach.
Ninja devs, don't be that guy.6
Tried a mobile app club this semester and the second meeting they brought in these two business majors who said they had an idea for an app that would share videos of college parties and the videos would disappear after 24 hours. You could also invite people to the parties as well.
I was like so you basically want snapchat... what happens when cops create accounts and fine people for under age drinking? How will you get market share over snapchat or vine? How much money are you offering?
They were not pleased...3
It's sad that there's always a market, especially for what should be absolutely top priority to be kept private.
btw: sorry to OCDs, it is indeed not centered, my mail client zoomed in a little so that happened itself8
There's just way too many choices when it comes to buying a new pc. And then there is Intel. Granted they produce great chips. But the whole cpu market is under their control. They are releasing new chipsets and sockets for breakfast.
We need stronger competitors6
Being a Programmer:
My mom said:
"Honey, please go to the market and buy 1 bottle of milk. If they have eggs, bring 6"
I came back with 6 bottles of milk.
She said: "Why the hell did you buy 6 bottles of milk?"
BECAUSE THEY HAD EGGS!!!!3
My non-English-native-speaking dev brothers and sisters, the proper preposition is "for" not "since" when speaking about a length of time. For example:
"I have been studying CS for 2 years."
"I worked at Google for 6 months."
"This house has been on the market for 4 weeks."
I think some ESL class has been teaching everyone improperly.24
All the Jeff Bezos and Pichai fanboys aside .. we really should appreciate Nadella for the work he has done with the mess left by the Steve Ballmer .. 🤔 especially with all the developments now .. visual studio code , GitHub embracing the open source market and understanding Microsoft's customer , market trends and what a true consumer product is. What say ?10
Windows 10 - suspiciously free upgrade and "pirate friendly."
Microsoft - really rolling with the hardware scene lately.
Windows 10 Updates - suspiciously destroyed the hardware in 4 laptops and a desktop I've worked on putting the owners in the market for new Microsoft hardware.
I intend to MAXIMIZE the background music because the SEO GIRL has the biggest mouth ever like its a market place! What in the world?2
Got my stickers. High quality and looks so good that I don't even want to put it on my laptop. I guess I will try to sell it on the black market.
I decided to work with #atom lately, and I made a fresh install on a VM to test some packages outside my real dev machine.
Just occurred to me that "by #GitHub" now means by #microsoft... So MS now really controls the IDE market from any possible angle.17
When life hands you lemons,
create a startup to market lemon juice
as a healthy, low-carb alternative to
My friend and I (both undergraduate) built a software to track emails for a local company (by the recommendation of my mom :D) now that is finished, it will cost $6 USD per 10,000 emails aprox. There is only one company that sells this service as a B2B, and the cost is near to $1,000 per 5,000 emails 😐. Things are always like that in the IT market?6
My boss refuses to take any of recommendations for improving the companies out dated website because "our age market is 50-60" it has to be blan and simple.
Like seriously what the fuck, this is why no other generation is staying in the webpage more then 30 seconds!2
Fuck Azure, Fuck Windows, Fuck Microsoft.
Half ass baked products in the market. Half the time there's no documentation. When there's a documentation it is so bad that it makes me feel like biting my teeth so hard that I am left with fucking pieces of incisors. My blood fucking boils whenever I need to deal with "POWER"shell. Fucking weaklings.15
Currently working as student part timer on a company that I really like.
When I'll finish my bachelor's degree, I will have been there for about 2-3 Years, additional to my 5 years working prior to that as a developer.
Today I learned, that our company doesn't usually pay the market price for devs (not a huge company, 150 employees, so it's understandable).
So now I don't know what to shoot for when discussing a raise after my degree. Should I still aim for market price? Should I argue with that and hope for the best?
I'm really unsure about that stuff...4
So I'm planning on ditching Google Play Store. Last step in my anti-Google action (apart from completely cleaning my old Gmail accounts)! I'm barely using it anymore anyways.
Only thing is, I need to find an alternative market. Not an easy journey :)9
Market Cap drops to $600 B
"I am not selling now. It will bounce back 😀"
Market Cap drops to $500 B
"I am not selling now. Just FUD. Fuck whales. It will bounce back 😃"
Market Cap drops to $400 B
"Haha. Nice played whales. But I am not selling now either. It will bounce back 😅"
Market Cap drops to $350 B
"Ok. The market is fully saturated now. Not gonna drop anymore 😓😐"
Market Cap drops to $300 B
"I think I should sell now 🤔🤔"4
Their intent is great but if they are over saturating the market with mediocre developers then that is a bad thing.
The reason i say that is because they are often cheaper and more eager than skilled individuals that want the job done properly.5
Signed up for a market research company (ironically, that I used to work for as a transcriber about 10 years ago) to pull in a bit of extra cash.
They sent an e-mail back confirming my registration.
With the password in plaintext.3
The job market is lol
Graduated 9 months ago, working minimum wage jobs and applying to jobs, never getting an interview! I finally get a job in my field, and within my first week on the job I get calls for 4 interviews, all paying more than the job I took
On top of that my parents think my salary is way too low but beggars can't be choosers right5
Stranger Things Fan: Have you seen Stranger Things? It's really good. You NEEEEED to watch it. Now.
Firefox Quantum Fan: Have you used FireFox Quantum? It's safe, fast, and uses less RAM. I don't know why it has such a low market share. You neeeeeeeed to use it! NOW.5
- was a manager of a super market
- got tired of walking to tills to give discount
- taught myself to code
- wrote a loyalty card system that automated the discount
- met an investor with a similar mindset and rolled it out nationally (after it was professionally refactored).
This was my "last job" starting in like 2009 not my current.1
Apparently my ISP does hosting.. and puts in their higher tier hosting package.. MySQL 5. And they actually market this. Version 5.0 got released in 2005 and after 2015, we're at version 8.
Anyone seen the machete? I've got some heads to take.20
We have a course in our uni where we're given a client and are supposed to make a product for him.
> Only, our client happens to be a startup guy.
> He's already mentioned that his app is worth 'multi-millions' countless times.
> And has already given us a job offer in his startup.
> And has offered to pitch the app to investors if we do it right and split the profit (He seemed almost convinced Google would acquire it).
All of it before doing any market research, testing, business planning or prototyping himself.
Yet people ask me why i hate on the hyped up startup ecosystem smh :/9
Yesterday one of our clients gave us the OK to launch their annual financial reports, 4 minutes before stock market closed and most of us was heading home.
Problem was we didn't have the proper access to their servers, so I and a senior consultant just spent a few hours calling our client and their IT infrastructure provider.
6 hours later, a large bill from the IT provider for after hours work, the job was done. A job that would take 5 minutes of uploading and 5 minutes of database transfer.
ME: Finally learned AngularJS ...now i can make perfect app..
Internet: fuss fuss fuss fuss fuss...
ME: Whats this all fuss fuss about..?
Internet: AngularJS is dead now.. ReactJS is hot on market ....5
My own colo server. My own cloud. My own infra.
Fuck all of the CSP's and their fucking broken TOS and their data privacy violations!
Why do you think Amazon is so cheap? Because when they discover a product/service/software on AWS makes money, they WILL Reverse engineer it, make it and price you out of the market. It's their business model!5
Found this using elementary os
So while browsing the market i found this "thing"
Am am the only one who things that this is a huge BS?11
I once single-handedly developed an entire drag-and-drop ui for creation, provisioning and control of virtual datacenters and all its infrastructure. Other people developed backend and database and the whole project took about 10 months, but about three weeks before we had a working, stable release the company decided to cancel an entire project.
We thoroughly researched the market, and at that time there was no better such solution. We would have made something extraordinary.
Especially because it worked with VMWare.
Any of my fellow devs into trading at all?
I've been looking into it for a while now, opened an Etoro account just to get a feel for it as a process and I'm looking into how to get into small time, long term stuff that I can play with. Any tips or advice?
A bored programmer10
Atleast make it random but cycling through ? Really ?? In it's presentation google assistant was presented as this amazing new Ai that used the latest and best machine learning algorithms and methods on the market. Don't get me wrong it's awesome it can predict patterns in my daily life and interactions but thats what machine learning does, we still didn't come very far with human-software interaction technologies have we ?5
I was looking at the lowest-valued company in the stock market for kicks and found their candidate description for a web dev. Says it all... https://t.co/JFNdjFTsjo
From Twitter: https://twitter.com/jmeaspls/...4
I work for a consulting company, my boss comes into the room full of engineers trying to work on Adwords campaign and asks us what words to use. "Should I use blockchain, I heart that's popular. What about AR?" None of us have ever touched any of those technologies and he's going to try and market us as such to some poor potential client he's going to B.S to. Get me out of here.1
It's amusing how every time something doesn't work with Linux somebody spent a bunch of time customising their OS into oblivion (because well, the whole point of using Linux is the ability to have it your way, d'oh), and it's never their fault for changing everything or using some distro with 0.05% market share, it's the company's fault not providing bulletproof support for their exact setup and not testing everything they put out on every combination of kernel & system software.6
For the past few months I've developed an oridinary digital shopping list. Just a simple web app written in php, HTML5, CSS3, JS and MySQL. From knowing nothing to having this feels great. Think what you want about it, but I'm quite proud of myself. First programming project, ever.
If you want to try it head over to https://app.esyshop.se.
Passwords are hased and salted with bcrypt.4
Never believe that you have the benefits of a work from home internship, with stipend; and the comfort of your home.
Indian parents be like, "Beti bachao beti padhao; beta dhaniya lao pudina lao"...
Which translates to, "Save daughters, educate daughters; son go bring dhaniya and pudina from the market"...
Dhaniya and Pudina are some vegetables, whose translation I don't know :P2
I used to check what local market wants, but after joining devRant I noticed local market sometimes feels in stone age, so since February 2017, devRant is best place to learn either asking, or checking what others are doing it a helps in getting ideas on what kind of project and language needs to be done for the sake of learning
Fuck you NXP and your market-penetrating proprietary bullshit solutions where there's plenty of standards around.
That's all. Have a nice weekend.
"Bu...bu..but JAVA SWING and FX are PORTABLE!"
And electrolytes are what plants crave.
I swear half the people I argue with are dinks.
IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU HAVE TO DO WORK PEOPLE WILL HIRE YOU FOR.
Under job listings for javafx: 2 listings within 200 miles of me.
Under job listings for C#/WPF: dozens and dozens of jobs.
Portability doesn't matter if you're broke.
My stomach owes no allegiance to "high fallutin" concepts such as openness, avoiding vendor lock in, or the high ideals of platform independence.
I'll take the microsoft gulag if it pays my bills.
I don't know whats so hard to grasp about this. Some people are completely divorced from reality.
Edit: Hello to all my peeps who I haven't talked with in a while. I hope everything is going swimmingly in your lives. May your beer forever be paid for by your employer and your code bug free!7
If you look at the "lightweight business laptops" or business netbooks section of the market you'll notice almost all of them seem to have 4gb
Bitch, thats barely enough to run windows 10.
Looks like a market opening. If I were still doing upgrades and repairs I'd blame everything on low memory (well, a lot of slowness can loosely be attributed to lack of memory) and upsell new machines with more and better ram. Target 6gb, which is cheaper than 8 and offers a minor but noticeable boost, just enough to passably justify the increased cost to whoever is responsible for authorizing the upgrade.
I don't understand whats so hard to grasp about this. It's like companies trip over dollars to pick up dimes.4
We’re a young and dynamic team of messy data-scientists who have failed at being employed on the real market. Our experience in losing data and throwing files away is more than amazing! Over the years, we have managed to get rid of so much important data at home and even at work. Pictures of our holidays, important invoices, login details… it’s all gone. So we started to make a business out of what we’re good at.2
Which is worse?
- Staying at a company you helped build because you have an emotional attachment to it, even if it's not as good to work for now, people are leaving every week and pay is under market rate.
- Leaving a company you helped build purely for more money and a big name on your CV.
Follow the money or follow your heart?
(Image slightly relevant?)10
Client: I need you to integrate with this API.
Me: ok cool, but what are we doing with it (where does the data go/styling)?
Client: what do think we should do?
Me: well it would be really cool if we did it like this *short and sweet explanation of really cool functionality and design*
Client: I LOVE IT! Let's do it, oh also I need it done by tomorrow...
Me: *GOD DAMNIT, why do you always do this...don't you dare say ok* ok, yeah I can totally do that.
...now at the market stocking up on redbull2
yay or nay?
for who are wondering what is on the screen :
i am working on a fish tank simulator gamr, which every fish have different unique combination and/or permutation. i combined this with cryptocurrency, the idea is similar to CryptoKitties and Insaniquarium combined. the implementation is not yet done, but currently i am working on the in-game market front-end functionality.
sorry no in-game preview/screenshot yet :P
curently thinking about considering to open source it and a collab.48
I had the old "got this great product I've developed, but can't afford a website, could you do it in exchange for a percentage of profits?"
Look, it's your product, I have had no say in its development, or quality or how you market it etc. I do websites and the website will do exactly what you want it to do. I couldn't give a fuck wether you sell one or a million. It's not my risk. Pay me for a site and I'll do it.3
You wouldn’t think that finding a home that actually had internet service would be the hardest part of house shopping in 2018...
Satellite internet does not count as internet. Also my statements apply to the US market only. Idk how bad this is in other countries.6
So Im business partners with my ex's father for a gun store and have been working on a new system to sell to the market for the gun industry.
Since I understand how to program it is assumed I automatically know how people think when buying things online, and one of my responsibilities is listing our guns from estate sales on a website called Gunbroker.com...
It is the worst and slowest website I've ever had to use and they assume everyone uses IE...And that's what I hate most about it. They didn't get the memo that IE is for downloading better browsers. Unless you're on a Mac/Linux which I am..3
amazon has hit 1T$ market cap. fffuckin bezos.

My first cli app in Python.
Also: there are no good timetrackers on the market.
Yestersay one of my friend (who runs a school) told me to make one software for the fee management of students. I said why don't you buy from market number of people's have already selling these kind of softwares. He said yes I have tried but they are costly few of them are selling at 10 k INR (less than 200 $).1
I have more side projects than I'll ever be able to finish. When I do finish them (or at least get a mvp), I have no idea how to market them, and in many ways, I don't even want to. I'm worried that it will kill the fun of it for me.3
Worse dev experience: Working for a company that had a monopoly in the market. They have Dinosaurs that didn't want to upgrade the user experience at all because of the company's hold on the market and their lack of forward thinking. It's a privately held company that is hard to get terminated. It was frustrating because they could do more but didn't so I'm looking to compete once my non-compete is up.
Best dev experience : Quitting the aforementioned job and getting another one. 😎6
How to spot the difference between a tech enthusiast and an actual Programmer/Engineer in 2019?
Tech Enthusiast: I'm really excited about the New X, it's going to be the fastest machine in the market. It's got gimmick feature A, gimmick feature B, actual feature A ......
Programmer/Engineer: So I bought this 8-year-old Thinkpad from eBay yesterday, wifi isn't working but I could just buy an off-market wifi card and fix it. Might also replace the old HDD with a new SSD. Would probably start using it as my daily driver once it's fixed.4
I saw this in a project proposal of a friend's job:
we build native apps using the most advanced mobile application
development platform on the market: React Native
I feel sorry for him :\3
Just found out about JSON API: https://jsonapi.org/
In a nutshell, it's a very standardized REST API and feels very good to use. Let's see if the standard will be accepted by the market.2
Focus on projects, not tests.
If you want people to be able to code, judge them by their ability to code.
Plus that way your graduates have a portfolio as opposed to a grade list that says nothing about their usefulness in the market.
If you must do tests, at least mimic real world conditions:
- Digital, no paper
- Internet allowed (have rules on copying SO if you must)
- BYOD, let people work in their customised environment
Sad how the easy to make softwares are already flooding the market and making millions so now we actually need to work a lot and innovate on something if we wanna a few bucks.
Also sad how in the 80s you could rob banks with just sql injection and now its almost impossible unless you’ve been devoting you being to cybersecurity for years.
Basically I feel it would have been cooler to be a computer scientist 30 years ago :/1
1. Kill Internet Explorer
2. Kill anyone who sell their web/app/design services cheaply that broke the market value
3. Kill anyone who want something in exchange of "exposure" or "you'll get the money when we get funding or IPO" or some shit like that, you name it.2
"The designer is not always right. The researcher is not always wrong. Profit is not always the motive; market research, whatever its outcome, should never be used as a good excuse for bad design – in the same sense that good design should never be used to promote a bad product." - Paul Rand1
I'm almost at the end of my CS degree and I was wondering what it'll be like on the market: do companies want people who know like 10 different languages or are they more focused on actual experience?
I mean in the end a language can be learned fast, imho.4
Indian housing market literally exploits bachelors who look to take a house on rent. Motherfucking retards!9
Why does it take 3 interview stages to get a 3-month internship...
That's ignoring the personalised CV, resume and cover letter for each one as well.
Can't imagine the fun of getting an actual job!!8
How do you come up with side projects? I'm currently looking for a side project that will be useful for me, an maybe for others in the long run.
Any suggestions? What do you think the market needs right now?
Keep in mind I'm currently a student so I don't have a lot of money to spend on investments.5
Update syllabus with latest technologies instead of teaching some outdated language which has no practical use in the market.
I see ads on marketing tools every fucking where.
Do I look stupid to you, Facebook and Google?
I don't fucking need them.
Who needs those stupid products anyway?
I even saw a reskinned XAMPP being marketed as 'local testing for your WordPress website', like what the actual fuck? Isn't that fucking scamming?
Oh, right. They were targeting WordPress monkies. Oh.
Anyway, please show me some more keyboards instead.
I've been in keyboard market for like 2 weeks you know.
That awkward moment when you're trying to find patterns to pin point trade ahead transactions on stock market and you realized that you were hired as Android developer.
shower thought (although not in the shower). Did we as an industry suck so bad at matching skills to companies that we created a whole market for assholes to make money as the middle man (recruiters)?1
Hey guys i made an online stock market simulator. It won't work but I just want the feed back of the game's frontend. I used Vue.js 2. Please give your feedback in the feedback tab inside the game. I used the templates from creative Tim. Link for the game http://dalalbull.deeaarbee.tech14
Static UI designs are no longer acceptable for site or applications. UX today is equally about the large and subtle animations. The way to forms, boxes, text, header and buttons react with the users choices. Handing a dev an image of an apps view is doing half the job in today’s web market.7
they crack the market of mid and low range mobile devices and nowdays they are just showing freaking ad too frequent.
like normally when you pause video you get to choose play button but in xiaomi they show you a big ad on screen. they even show ad on every operation of file, multimedia etc.. and also because they provide regular update at cost of useless app which consumes lot of storage.3
Chicago is a tough IT market. It's the first market where I've had to walk away from jobs because companies refuse to remove their non-compete agreements. I've never signed a non-compete, you shouldn't either and here's my reasoning why:
Twitter. From a genuinely open and global platform which pretty much single-handedly created a new market segment, to dogmatic SJW-infected thought police with no transparency or objectivity in how they operate. Gab is the closest we have come to a viable alternative at scale, but between industry-wide bullying to shut them down and their own short sighted inability to handle their own growth, Twitter still has an outright monopoly on their segment and no shame about abusing that position.
Just helped in the little 'Büdchen' (kiosk comes close, but in reality it is more of an little super market) around the corner to Update the firmware of a money bill verifier and counter... As there are new 50 Euro bills.
God. Serial to USB. After running installer and starting firmware update, the owner was a bit frightened as it took so long....
Setup. 30 secs. Firmware. 6 Minutes. XD
Personally I love JS for some solutions but prefer using a diverse array of technologies for different tasks4
Guys I just deployed my chatbot "Stock Market Tracker" .Try out my bot by saying in Google Assistant "Talk to stock market tracker"10
Just wanted to update you guys on the status of the weather app i was working on.
I have decided to stop working on it for the time being but might return to it at a later date.
The decision was in part due to it being a fairly generic idea in a already saturated market.
Thanks for the support however and hope my next project will be as well received.4
2020: ima tell y’all how I tell my fellow devs at the office. You only get out what you put in. Reach for what you want and understand what the market demands. If the markets flooding with PWAs then don’t spend weeks learning Wordpress plugins.... apply yourself harder then anyone else in the room to be inner-twined with the markets needs so that your worth is higher every year. Double your knowledge and worth this year.2
I was on glassdoor today, and a survey came up. The survey looks like market research for a product that sounds like it will be exactly like one of my side projects... Deciding if it's worth scrambling to beat them to market with what's barely a MVP and no marketing resources, or just chalking it up as fun and good experience.7
Basic REST server authentication: pass a valid username in the URL of your request and you can publish trade and market data that's used by other systems.
I think they're moving to oAuth now but... These developers are slow and only do things when a gun (Sr. Management) is held to their heads.
My (yet another) forum, wanted to make an extensible system like vBulletin/Invision Power without the scummy pricing schemes and rip off market prices, fully open source.
Had something that was working but the patchwork architecture was making it a total PITA to get anything done, the rewrite is under way though :)2
I've been working in IT ever since I graduated but over the years it feels like I'm getting further and further left behind compared to technology shops.
I been thinking of going for a pure tech shop but not sure if someone like me, without a CS degree, could make the cut. Or how I should market myself.
I've been coding since a kid as a hobby and still do now and I think I have a lot of experience but not sure what I should be looking for or what I could get with this background. (http://allanx2000.github.io/pages/...)
Any advice would be great, thanks!3
Social media site/app... I think social media is such a saturated market yet everyone seems to think their spin is somehow unique and worthwhile...
Although, not sure if DevRant counts as 'social media' but tbh I see real value in getting developers to form a community, where to profit potential comes from potentially linking developers to recruiters/employers (targeted ads to devs for shit we would want). And devs get a nice platform to socialize and bullshit about things we all experience (ie, the 'community' is real and valuable to us)1
When your marketing director says "we're going to market the sh*t out of silver customer's".....I'm over here like "lol", apparently he was 100% serious, I got scolded.3
Those Rockstar lazyfucks developers! I just spend all Franklin's money on stock market and my portfolio got empty! Lost $200k of game money that took days to get and searching on the web I found that this shitty glitch happens since 2014 and thousands are affected! Go fuck yourselves trying to make me buy game money with real money by making me lose everything you fucking useless devs
I remember studying up on web dev by myself, got advanced into php and all frontend stuff js, jquery, css, html. Coz all jobs in the country wanted those exact stuff. I got a job, 1.5 years later tried to look for other jobs, everyone wanted react, angular, vue, node... fucking market outdates u as u are working. Dont u hate that6
Say you had a yearly review and you asked for a decent raise (to compare you to market value).
Say the manager told you he will talk with the boss and fight for your demands.
After how long without an answer, you'll start looking for another job?
I am waiting for a response over two months now.6
'With the most modern system on the market'
This is part of email I got from CEO of big company.
Meanwhile a college how sits few desk ahead of me, opens Turbo Pascal IDE to work on that (the most modern) system.3
One of my student ask me this. I dont have exact answer so i decided to take help professionals here and based on their experiences i hope they can help him and many people who has similar questions.
Is it necessary to have graduation from USA to work in USA Or canada?
What are the possibilities to get an internship or job in US market without having education from USA?
Why are most jobs just about web development or mobile development? (I'm not criticizing I'm a mobile developer myself)
Is it JUST purely because of the market need and people using them?
Share your opinion on this one and what other career paths in CS do you know about you think would benefit from more people in them.2
I recently entered a new job as a software developer for a hot-in-market startup, and they are offering a huge amount of money to maintain just one app
The reason why they are offering that much money is because it is a hybrid app written in closurescript, they are willing to pay for learning closure but just maintain the app
Any thoughts about the practice of body leasing...
I am a undergraduate just entering the market. Personally I see it as the possibility to get to know a lot of different working environments, but I acknowledge that depending on the given situation it can go south real quick.4
I suck at DevOps at least as hard as I'm good at front-end/UX. I found out as a result of the local job market starting to get needy for 'full-stack'. Stuck for 2 days on setting up a Docker/ Dockerhub/ DigitalOcean/ Bitbucket pipeline with Nginx/ Node/ MongoDB Cloud & Webpack/ React.
For a computing project at school, I need to do some market research, I'd be very grateful if anyone could be bothered to fill in this survey: https://surveymonkey.co.uk/r/...9
How to approach job applications for EU and US market?
I have applied at multiple places and have never made it even to the first stage. The jobs I apply for, pretty much match my experience level and stack.
Does this have something to do with visa issues since I am from the Middle East?
Or is there something else I am possible missing out on.23
Is it just me or is what susspose to be the tech giants, making more and more n00b mistakes lately... Apple's latest update "best release of iOS yet" bricks the phone, Samsung phones are blowing up...
Things are continously prematurely released to try and beat everybody in the market place which just leads to unimpressive and dangerous product releases.3
I'm between Node js and (yes) blockchain. Node has amazing possibilities, and well distributed could end with the crappy servers era. Even my crappy server could fall to node in some weeks.
Blockchain is the best chance I see to take control over a market full of companies stuck in the middle's XXth century business model, and has a lot more to provide
Google Cloud Services can't be used by private individuals in the EU because their billing system isn't customized for tax differences between companies and private individuals (it's the exact same tax, just named differently - and the doings for the service providers control drivers are different). How can Google miss that market?
Hello Amazon Glacier, hello AWS (maybe)...2
So a hackathon is offering its winner a nice amount in neo-coins . Is it worth going? I don't know much about bitcoins and cryptocurrencies except that they are pretty hot stuff in finance market. And this seems to be some new name in virtual money2

I am having a fun time learning Angular. It’s way different from React.
I do like the css scoping a lot. Also it’s strange to not have to deal with state.
I am learning it because I see the job market requiring it as opposed to React.
Any React peeps feel me?3
Ugh... those feels when your 2 year old gaming PC is already falling way behind on benchmarks and handling games. AMD FX sucks so hard.6
Soo, our microsoft is the best on the market.... again... Trying to compile C++ code in Visual Studio 2017. I tried restart VS but it won't help..... If I try compile this code in linux it works well... Burn...

Any one with autotrading experience? Is it worth it? How much money do you make? How much money did you put into it at the beginning? What are the hardware requirements? What software do you use? Is it advisable to use your Computer for normal things during the day and for trading durint off times? Any tips and tricks for newbies?6
I'm a bit bitter that the first half of my associates degree was spent learning php and now that I'm in the job market, fucking nobody wants php 😑 I have other coding skills but like we spent A LOT of time learning a language that nobody is building new applications in.7
someone called me.
recruiter: hi may I speak to niko.
niko: yes speak, may I know who is this.
recruiter: my name is lala from Xtalent I have a .net developer role in NJ. Are you available in the job market?
Niko: I have a project already.

Entire Bitcoin market is going down. Any thoughts?
Just curious to know what the devs think about BTCs. I've started trading recently and I'm still positive it'll go up. I haven't invested much so even if the marker crashes, it won't have a really big impact on my life.22
Best choice: not going into game development. Bad payment for horrible working conditions.
Worst choice: telling numbers as first party in the interview process for every job I had so far. Made me earn far under my market value.4
Quick Java question.
Does spending £200 on Oracle certification raise your job market value?
Or is it just a pointless money maker for Oracle.4
I am excited about Websocket getting more popular. I just completed a project using it. It is so good for sending market data to the front.
1) try make it do web requests
2) try make it work as server
if i can do these things with new technology then i can do almost all today software market need. even some css frameworks passes these tests.
Anybody knows the Kysoh Tux Droid?
Got one here and need to know if there is some market for those gadgets. How to find out what it is worth?
For those who don't know: It's a penguin which can be connected to the computer via the fish dongle. It is able to move the body, the wings and the eyes. Furthermore it can speak (via TTS) and the wings are buttons.

I like how hiring managers want everyone to have 5 years of Golang experience. I've been writing go since 2014. There were hardly any Golang jobs in the market 4 years ago. Where would be getting this enterprise Golang experience from? The only big companies that had full systems written in Go 4 years ago was Google and DropBox.
My year of extensive Golang isnt good enough. I feel year after year manager's expectations move further and further from reality.1
How do you answer the boring people who ask you to develop (for free) the Nth fabulously useless and uninteresting application they had the brilliant idea and that will rock the market?3
I am the only engineer in my company, we develop and sell software solutions to a niece market.
In 1 year and a half i developed software for Android, IOS, Windows Desktop, web applications and an IoT solution........... My code has not a single line of comment....2
I am so bored and wanted to see some cool moving charts. So I started work on a little market economy simulation with different sources, drains and recipes for a variety of resources. Traders buy stuff, produce stuff and sell stuff at prices. They look at the market, how it has evolved, offers and requests to determine the prices for which they want to buy and for which they want to sell their stuff.
Currently just basic stuff and testing manually since I haven't completed the whole market simulation tick method. And I want to verify if the Traders work as I expect.
I was looking forward to creating app like Alipay for US/EU market, then I realized Venmo exists. What do you think, is it still worth trying to compete? Outside of Venmo we don't really have any other competition.29
Not completely a dev thing. But now days it seems like everyone is either an audiophile or a master at phone design. Like for REAL! What do you want???
This sounds like crap (has HD Sound)
This looks ugly (any and every phone)
It seems like there a lot of trolls that just go to events they really don't like... Why do Samsung Fans watch Apple events??
You dont see vegans going to every meet market they see.... Like for real.....
Stake in a Start-up
I have two of my friends who have planned on a start-up. These guys are engineers but have no coding expertise. How much stake should I ask for?
P.S: I've studied the market as well as the proposal and have planned on working on it.6
Since most of the people around here can code decently well and also have the capacity and knowledge(imo) to trade stocks regularly, I'd like to know if anyone really does it?
Since I'm currently jobless, I have dabbled a bit in the share market and have been quite successful while following very specific rules, so I was curious if anyone has done/is doing this regularly as an alternative job/source for additional money!2
Which php framework is worth getting into? Laravel seems to have most market or should I go with CakePHP or even something else? any info is appreciated (how are the docs, is it hard to find solutions, how is the error handler, how hard is it to learn etc), I am sure people around here have used a good amount of them and can tell their rage or good things about it. 😳9
Windows 10 randomly installs apps from their market on my PC. Reinstalled windows a few days ago and wanted to keep it clean (not installing too much stuff I won't need anyways). So I installed my 7 programs. What do I see in my apps list 2 days later?
- 3 versions of Candy Shit Whatever its called
- 2 racing games
- 10 utilities I never heard of before
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??8
*accidentally caught up with one of our marketing guys at a customer meeting in a public place *
*selling one of our POS *
*at the end of the presentation *
customer : the price is too high!!
*price was actually too high as of my knowledge about market. i was about leaving *
*our guy appears with a magic wand and makes 3 versions of that POS which I also developed as a part of team and i don't know of*
our guy: come on!! it's just the full enterprise version that i showed u. we have more blah blah versions. u don't need this, this and that. i think this blah version will suit ur needs well nd it costs lesser.
*i was like wat the fu......*😲
Hi dev buddies, need some help, need some feedback... What’s you’re feelings on Drupal? I’ve never used it but have been asked to look for a CMS for the company I work for. It’s a newspaper company looking to get its first CMS and ‘managed’, templated websites. There’s more expensive CMS options on the market, but feel Drupal might be a good place to start?13
I'm quite confused about job market here in germany. Beside studies I'm working in a data center and have already some practical knowledge about programming stuff and managing applications. Although many companies I apply for say I need more experience. How the hell should I collect it if I don't get the chance to do so. Do you have seen this in other countries as well?5
Do any companies handle pay/promotion well?
Our startup has lost its last 3 or 4 good up-and-coming devs and management has blinders on regarding the issue.
If you're struggling to find engineers, pay at least market rate.
If you're losing good junior and mid-level people, make sure there's some feedback on the path to Senior level.
Why is this so difficult?1
## Reasonable answers needed ##
If you always work free and forced overtime, and you didn't get any salary raise fir a while. and then you asked to learn and work with new language and framework you didn't work with it before, you would prove yourself and learn it or you would ask for a raise first (or you simply you won't work do it)?
Context: fucked up market, no other job founded. and father.12
I think if you are a beginner and you want to learn to program it's always better to look at the current technologies in the industry. This does not only apply to beginners, even those who are already in the industry as this may help to decide which language or framework you want to learn. In order for you to decide you need to know the market trend and the stability. I think the following links can help quite a lot.
Out of any service industry web dev is the only one that shorts it own market and full of lies making it impossible for any real person trying to make and honest living and everyone seems to be okay with it - no other trade does this 25 years experience haven't found a job yet in a year something's not right too many people are lying making people untrustworthy I know I'm not the only one that feels like this8
just sharing* Singapore developer market-rates 2016 for different skillset. what are your thoughts, please share.
I saw some game maker software (Klik & Play for the nerds), in a super market budget section and pestered my mum to buy it for weeks, got it, after a year of playing about started to read and found out about for loops & functions..... My software didn't have these as it was just creating actions for game events, very limited... Realised my games (if you could call them that) could be so much better with more control and started to look into languages like BASIC, the rest is my history :)1
This year was productive, next year need to get a better and more stable job with more income; finish some of my personal projects and market them... also buying a pinephone and pinetab is in my new year's list... have a productive new year everybody
Is anyone in the house working on Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)? If yes, how is the domain and what's the market value of it?
Want to get into mobile dev, as i am pc and android phone user, so getting in android dev would be logical choice. Was thinking of iOS market as well so is/was learning Flutter(Dart). Is it a good choice? Or just stick to android? Let me know your suggestions? Thx for everything ^^3
"16$/h [CAD] is a decent salary in this market [small town]"
*requires 5 years of experience*
*wonders why there's a recruitment problem*
I watched a little bit of F8 yesterday. I felt as If usually do when I see something like this "oh wow this is so cool, look at the things we can do with friends now wow"
Then you realise that it's never how they market it. You get so excited at the potential
How can you recover data from a ticking harddisk (fell on ground and head is broke)?
I've contacted some persons in market but they are doing it for the price of 3 new HDDs.
Is there any chance to DIY ? Share your theories and experiences.6
Which is better:
1. Developers who develop software writing documentation for the software they developed
2. Marketing people who market stuff writing documentation for the software the developers developed1
So there is a new buzz in the market
Get ready to see 100s of rant about it here
How it is better or worst then react native3
The problem about being a programmer:
My roommate: "Bro if you're going to the market buy 1 bottle of milk. If they have eggs, bring 6."
I came back with 6 bottles of milk.
Roommate:" Wtf man. Why did you buy 6 bottles of milk."
I've got a question for y'all.
What with Facebook's recent pig-like nature and disregard of users, I have been thinking there is a gap in the market for a better, safer social site that offers all the benefits of Facebook without the downsides.
What are your thoughts?6
Good Morning from Australia. Anyone planning on manipulating the stocks or forex market, now is your chance. I can provide you with tomorrow's prices 😂5
Got a job interview tomorrow I'm not that nervous but I'm not sure what my market value is even after 5 years of experience any suggestions?7
And when you as a developer, market yourself, you are not doing anything bad. If you truly believe that you know your stuff and you are someone who can bring value to people, there is nothing wrong to let people know that. You would actually help them
Anyone here got Nokia 6.1? Any reviews? I like the phone but debating if its right for US market..they claim band 29 and 30 are not supported6
Get nice idea to code game.

So i'm currently an IGCSE student, and i learn programming as a hobby, but this year is the graduation year and i took all the subjects necessary for The Faculty of Computer Science, but i wanted some advice from the people working in this field, so is it a great job with good income? and are thier many job oppurtinities out there on the market? And finally which is better Software engineering or CS?
Thanks for your time.5
- "You passed all the tests very well, we think you will be a big actor of our developement service. We propose you 28k€/y, and it's the best you could find on the market."
- "No, thank you."
1 week after, found for 38k€/y.
Hello guys, I've got a short question because I need a little guidance. I need to write a thesis to obtain my bachelors degree and I thought about writing the blockchain. Because the topic needs to be more specific I thought about writing the blockchain and it's use in the financial market. Apparently my professor wants an even more specific topic for the thesis. Have you guys got any clues ? Ideas for me ... I would appreciate that a lot :)9
Net neutrality is tyranny disguised as freedom.
Anti-net neutrality is freedom that is wrongly perceived as greed and tyranny.
Who pushes the net neutrality agenda? The same companies who spy on you, emasculate and degenrate society, pro-big government.
Yes ISP's are monopolistic and greedy. But it can change and it will change once the market is truly free from government regulations who nurtured the monopolies in the first place. Just be patient.
Governments can't rule society forever. Freedom is stronger. Civilization moves forward to Minarchism, then to Anarchism.
Long live the free market4
Realize how complex it is to build and the time it would take, then when I check how many similar things to it already are on the market, I feel like there's no reason to do it.
Anyone here a Buddybuild user? This seems like a real good way for Apple to squeeze the Android market of its devs. http://mashable.com/2018/01/...1
Do any of you ever work in cafes or hotel lobbies? What do you feel such a place should at least have if so? Consider this a market research question :)3
I wanna found a company after finishing education and working for a few years.
In your opinion: Is it still worth to go into the app market or shall I advance and aquire knowledge in the vr market in the meantime?
VR seems to be the "appmarket" of the 2020's.
Playstore is already very saturated til now.5
"…the wisest course of action is to take your best shot with a prototype, immediately get to market, and iterate quickly. If you wait for ideal circumstances in which you have all the information you need (which is impossible) the market will pass you by. " - Guy Kawasaki1
After you spent 3 years going into web development and eventually becoming good at it then you realize mobile apps sell for way more money than a website because of the existence of wordpress, wix, shopify... Like i aint shitting everything i learned so i can learn kotlin and swift from scratch. Like wtf is wrong with the market, software is software. Fucking fuck my life.1
The Economists department where I'm getting a PhD announced a 'great' job opportunity in the State Manufacturing Federation. It seemed truly great, it was an interest job and it required every single ability I've been developing over these years: coding, database management, statistical analysis, geoprocessing and making of maps... But the salary was offensively low. That day I realized how much I'm valued in the market. *sigh*
I am not a developer originally... but i wanted to start making money aside from my original job ... I chose android development because the freedom to work independently that is offered by the play store market... and also android development is awesome and full of a lots of potentials3
My first programming language was PHP and lately I've started looking for a new language to learn. My first idea was C, but after talking to professors in college they pointed out Java would be a good option. They made fair points regarding our local market and job openings. Now I'm in doubt: C or Java?7
What are your comments on this line of thought.. you would always find a younger smarter and a good technician in the market than yourself then why do we require dev in software industry with 10+ years experience. Moreover tech itself changes so rapidly to catch hold off..3
Motion tracking tool that tracks affine transformations, as well as perspective, given a defined shape by the user. Runs slow as fuck compared to the ones out in the market, but hey, it works. Currently, I'm figuring out how to ship computation to the GPU, though I'm not well versed in OpenCL, since cross platform is more of a priority.
Reasons for the Nvidia GTX1070Ti existing...
1. NVIDIA targeting AMD’s Vega 56.
2. Using up failed 1080 cores.
3. Using up stockpiles/forward orders of GDDR5.
4. Mining GPU’s haven’t sold well, so the 1070 Ti targets that market instead.
What do you think?
Mine is on preorder as of today2
Gotta question about the job market,
I'm having a very tough time getting a job, still jobless from when I quit my job awhile back, anyway all the jobs I look up that contain the words software/android/app/java developer seem to include web development skills.
Something of which I don't know much of, I wouldn't mind learning sure but for things like android development I can use Java just fine to create apps, yet the moment I start reading they want developers that know react.
Is this a normal thing? I can get to learning new languages and all but it'd be sad if my skills in Java for both software and app development are never used once I join that company.
Forgot to add this is for New Zealand job market, not sure it's normal for other countries.3
What do people need? What will be the requirements of future?
App development, webdev, blockchain,.. snapchat, tiktok, insta... These are all just careers and apps whose sole purpose is to engage people with their phones... Every new app/website in the market wants to make the youngest of the young and oldest of the old to keep their eyes fixed on this glass screen for as long as they can... For the current decade, this has been the most successful market and profitable scheme of business in the world, leaving other careers like medical, astronomy, mechanics., Etc far behind.
So is this the future? In the next generation too we will be having users who are addicted to smaller and smaller and larger and larger screens, with their spectacle width thickening ... Or are we going to shift to some other form of business?3
Why isn't Gooogle buying Atlassian to stock up G Suite with Wiki and Slack, then piss off Microsoft and win the Market over with better products?
Im reading everywhere now that MS Teams has the hugest Userbase and so much features to come bla bla bla
Fuck MS Teams, it's shit, looks like it and it's software so I can't smell it. Thank god for that, else it would smell like the afterback of a diaarhetic horse.
Every fucking Tecnician at my company is arguing, that MS Teams is better, because more users are active. WTF Poopface, they have more user, because it comes included with O365???
Our people are so stupid, I bet they won the IT Certification in a Lottery or flew to Turkey to buy it at a Bazaar.
And who the fuck are the Product Managers at Google, gonna hit them a couple of times with a broom to wake up. You fucktards are missing a huge market.7
In recent time, I'm thinking about to start freelancing (or at least start preparing for it).
Problem is that I'm completely new to it. In following weeks, which steps should I take to successfully introduce myself to that market? Which mistakes to avoid? Which sites do you recommend?
Thanks in advance for contribution. :)
Is there a market for novelty ducks? I shared an office with a coworker so i cannot really speak to mine, i still got this one just for the sake of having one. It looked a bit different than the usual ones but its not exactly novelty, but it got me thinking...
anyway, i present you "standing duck with hat"3
Your product is not big enough until it reaches a stage when new features are kept hidden and your users explore and market them for you.
Hey DevRant fam :-) hope everyone is doing very well wherever you may be!, i'm currently on my uni break for roughly 3 or so weeks which is fabulous, now i do not have much experience with finance or crypto-currencies!, but i'd like to do something a bit different.
This is something i'd hope to put onto my portfolio, so my idea is something on the lines of a stock market simulator BUT with Crypto currencies, i've been asking people around uni but no help unfortunately!.
So its very similar to a stock market simulator app if you look at things like "Investopedia Stock market simulator" its very much the same concept. The user has x amount of USD or AUD (as an example) and they can buy BTC or Ripple and it either goes up in price or down :-).
So guys that's something id like to create :D i definitely know its difficult and i'm not so sure on how to start :-). If its possible to get some advice on how to start i'd greatly appreciate it!.
Hope you have a wonderful day/night where-ever you are!
(I apologize for rambling on)
I am afraid, I don't even wanna have a look at how my pension fund is doing in the stock market these days ... Not that it has shares of Huawei, but all this instability caused by Trump is just bringing down the whole market. Won't this guy ever stop tweeting shit and taking stupid decisions without thinking twice?6
Thinking of making some themes. Do people still do that these days? Is it a big market place?
Might start small with a jekyll github pages theme and see if I actually finish it.1
Is it actually viable to become specialized in analyzing and optimalizing C# code? Like is there a market for that? Even if it is just other people being too lazy to do it.🤔8
Why are there very little or crappy YouTube channels/videos for developer tools? Does no one want to make videos on how to get started with Jenkins, Gitolite, etc? Is there no market for that?1
Anyone else get told their rates are too high (by potential clients)? Too low (by fellow freelancers)? How does one put a value to their time and still stay market competitive?
Details: USA only. Not on any platforms such as freelancer, upwork, or fiver. Cost of living is Portland Oregon standards. Ask for any other details.
Looking for thoughts, recommended readings, any helpful input would be awesome.2
well, in this tag if feel life is perfect..
anyone talked about a full job-seeking market and a few companies
I got my first computer 3 years ago. It had windows which I used for nearly 6 months and then switched to linux. Everything is doing fine, I am learning quite well. However, one thing that bugs me is that I don't have much experience on Windows platform and know comparatively less about windows, will I survive once I get to the job market?
By the way, I recently passed my high school.1
Why try an pursue this start up dream of building the next game changing app if you cant put down more then 30k on it? You'll fork out 300k on the market any day as chump change but cant put your money where your mouth is when it comes to your own ideas! Come back to talk when your serious. Is are field truly though to be valued so little ?
Anyone use wireless earbuds (preferably not with a cord attached to the two)? Looking for an imformed decision. I usually prioritize sound quality over anything.14
Hey guys I am looking for some career advice
I am currently a Bachelor's student in Melbourne, Australia and I am trying to source a placement (internship) but I have had no success in it
So if anyone could give me advice on how I could advance my career it would be great
P.S. I have also heard about the hidden job market here but I have no idea on how I could tap into that6
I want to build a platform that decreases our need for apps. Right now it's hard for a new platform to enter the smartphone market as nobody will make apps for it if it has no users, nobody will use it if it has no apps, etc. without this centralization on apps we could see tons of new interesting smartphone platforms such as the ones that failed like Windows Phone, Firefox OS, webOS, etc.2
On top of what others have said, like the interview questions to ask, etc, do your own research too, not just on the company/companies you're applying for, but also on the industry as a whole and the average salary of that position in your country.
This will help get a better idea of when you're getting ripped off, especially for those who are just entering the job market.
Microsoft? what a fucking joke
I do /remotelogout in skype. Next thing you know you can’t relogin with skype for WP. It says “*login successful, but we can’t log you in right now*”. Peace of shit.
On Android works with no problems, I wonder why WP has 0,00000000NULL% market share.
So, google is complaining about an increased amount of 404 errors on my website. How do i complain about 404 errors on their site?
Check this out: https://android.com/market/...3
Use a product that is not the greatest, but does its job fairly well in the human capital management market. Anyhow this POS can't communicate very well with Azure extended end points via rest. FML. Now I'm building workarounds and I know this bs is gonna bite me in the ass.
I've been messing around with WSL and the "Ubuntu" Windows Store app... As a Linux guy who runs Windows in virtualbox, I'm clearly not the in the intended target market... I'm wondering If anyone here uses it, and what your use case is.5
Why do I feel like development market is being flooded right now?
Indiehackers is full of posts about “businesses” that are selling courses.
More like selling shovels during a gold rush, amirite?2
The guy (#ass) takes more than a year (not an exaggeration) to come up with a market name for the product and now wants it reflected everywhere on the website yesterday.
Considering he's still employed, makes me wonder my career choices.
If we really try to reinvent the wheel, and if we did that successfully, I bet it will be 2x better than at least all the unfancy stuff in the dev-market
Do you guys think that developer market is being over flooded? programming jobs are glamorized and more and more people are getting into the field, what will the market look like in 5 years?2
How much does a freelance front-end web dev (entry level) charge per hour (average market rate)?
Skills: HTML,CSS, JS,Jquery
Experience: At least 1 or 1.5 years
I've googled and the results that came up are those before 2015/2016.
Thanks in advance.5
Alternative for Control board (Display)???
So I took out the monitor of my old laptop ,and I'm planning on using it as my new secondary monitor. BTW I'm from Nepal, and it is not possible to find any control board available in market for the spare LCD.
So could anyone suggests me with an alternative for the control board for my spare monitor?
Thanks in advance.2
web dev. ui/ux. full stack.
I am not a senior developer but im doing multiple jobs like full stack dev, ux designer and architect.
I only like front end given the choices.
I want to do some vr but the market seems not ready for that so i can only do some learning at home.
Made a !rant about me making a market economy simulation.
It kinda works. It works way too good. Way too stable prices. Something will explode for sure and I can't fricking find out where or what!1
Not a function, but a java object... SortedMap saves my ass all the time. Be it market-basket analysis, or selecting top k individuals in an evolutionary algorithm xD5
Can someone explain the future of PHP? (Serious question). I was under the impression learning php is mainly for the current job market. Otherwise the future is nodeJS, ruby, python etc.
I’m asking because I see a lot of leading development and courses on laravel for modern development and I’m wondering how relevant it is to the future.1
Which Web-Framework is better, or which Framework will dominate the market in the future?
When your boss says 'GOOD JOB' but in reality you just trade the stock market the whole day. hehe
Any developers slash traders here?5
For all the gamers here, whether hardcore or casual, what do you think of the mobile gaming market? Why is it so successful despite apparent rejection from a lot of gamers? Is it fine the way it is, or can it be improved (and how)?9
In the market for a new keyboard and mouse setup - my work provided ones are awful.
Only requirements are must be wireless, either Bluetooth or unified receiver, and UK layout
Does any of you devs, located in Hanover, Germany know about a decent job offer for a fullstack web-developer?
I'm frustrated because of my current job situation and willing to change my position on the job market ;)
Our company moved to new place....and its more like "big market" rather then development center...not sure how to cope up with this.... :(
So earlier today I went to a super market store and started gathering some items. After collecting a dozen items I felt like not buying. I put my trolley in a corner with items still in it and walked out if the store without buying anything. My first encounter with abandoning a cart in real life.. 😁😁
This startup contracted me to develop an app for them. They gave me the mockups and said they need it in 7 weeks. Two apps in 7 weeks, no problemo. Almost done with the first app then they came saying they are changing everything. How can you decide to change your entire app and concept mid development? You haven’t even tested the market to know whether your idea holds.3
So, what's the process for starting to create your idea? I have one, I've given it a minimal amount of thought, a very high level overview, the purpose and some features that I want. Probably just a free service because it's (probably) not anything too serious. So what now? Market research or just start typing? Planning architecture? This is my first time that I've had an idea I think is worth pursuing. What have you all done?
Any good hackathon project idea that can enhance the D-Commerce Market??
D-Commerce includes all digital goods like e-books, streaming services, SaaS, etc.
Getting to mess and tinker with the latest tech before it even hits the market, easy to find a job that pays well, and of course getting to pretty much dress as casual as you want ( or not at all if you work from home !)
How's the job market for individuals in Hyderabad, India with a masters degree in cs from US and 2 yr work experience in US as well? What should be my expectations coming back? I'm an okay developer and work on front end (Angular) mostly.
