Really thankful for that. To everyone.1 -

Furthermore, I think we can all agree that

I suck at JavaScript. Like, I really, really am considering doing something else with my life right about now.10

I really like the concept of a "hackerspace" but they are far away from my flat and after working all day I don't really wanna travel across the city for hours to try things for an hour or two because I need to catch the train on time to get at least a bit of sleep.
I'm thinking of a "digital hackerspace" where ppl can "meet" and write code or build something(?). Does something like this exist?
If it doesn't I'd really like to build that kind of thing because I'd say I'm not the only person thinking like that 😅5 -

-
"I don't know about changing that part of the platform"
-"Do you see any other way?"
"No, but this one is pretty complex"
-"Would you like me not to do it?"
"No, but like, really test it, OK? It's a very complex part of the platform"
-"Would you like me to include the phrase 'this was really fucking complex' in the release documentation?"
Sometimes I think my boss is against coding :/ -
Merging one git branch into another when it conflicts an added line or function.

If I add a log statement on every small thing it makes it look like my application is running REALLY fast
-
Just got done watching a 2 1/2 hours of Uncle Bob on programming. I really like his style of speaking. Great data and interesting viewpoints. Really easy to follow. I'd read some of his articles, but never listened to him before. Will definitely be watching more. For those of you in organizations using "agile" development and having a tough time of it, his talk called The Land that Scrum Forgot was really interesting.
And he really looks amazingly like my uncle, Tom, who's also been a programmer for decades! So I just think of him as Uncle Tom instead.1 -
Life :)
But seriously, there's sooooo many side projects I'd really like to start/finish I can't even list them...1 -
As developers, I feel like we as a community need to really work on our grammar/spelling.

working with odoo is like being inlove with a terribly annoying person.
"I really like you, but wtf?" -
!Question
I see lots of rants here of bosses/clients screaming, imposing their authority, making people work during the night, weekends etc. Is it that common?
In my actual job, the few times my boss screamed to me, I was about "fuck this shit, I'll just do what he wants and go home at the right time. If they don't like it, just fire me. And laught silently when things goes wrong".
I've been afraid to get into the developer area and always be stressed out with too much work to do, people screaming and having to work on weekends.3 -
I've been practicing really hard on C# the last few days and it really doesn't feel like I'm making any real progress. Everything I'm doing is in console and when people in my class see it I get treated like a idiot because most of my classmates took the C# or C++ courses while I focused on web...3
-
I still don't like using React/Polymer for really big projects. There's nothing like carefully tailored jquery code doing exactly what you wanted with addition of promises and requirejs. Anyone?5
-
Well, I really like the new devRant app design BUT damn ... I can't stop swiping from left to right ...
-
Hey JS/Node combo. Get your shit together as I'm really pissed of when I see shit like this. This is why I keep myself distant from everything even remotely connected to you but this time I really want to do web extension.3

Try doing any non trivial operation in a single db query (aka. efficiently) from a language that's not JavaScript if you really want to hate everyone and everything7 -
How do u stay civil when your code doesn't work and it's been hours? I feel like punching something but I swear I'm not really violent. I just feel like it.3
-
I always did amusing those discussions about development IDE . People seem to worship software like if it is a god or like if it really matters which one you use.1
-
Larry Wall
I really like the fact that he approached perl with similar ideas like in the early days of programming.
He also seems like a down to earth guy.
It is kind of sad that perl isn't used as much nowadays. -
The project that I’m working on right now. The more features I build, the more I realize how much more shit I need to build. What the fuck is this. This is getting really stressing. Really annoying. Really scary really fast.
Am I missing something?
Am I doing something fucking wrong?
Am I over engineering shit?
Shit looks like it has NO END.12 -
I really want an electric skateboard ....
I feel like it would complete my programming persona....
Anyone got anything like that ? -
music
I would just like to share an amazing feed for minimal house/techno on soundcloud called 'Drumcode'
Really good for focussing :) -
`Not really a function, but inserting a ${variable} like this is so convenient in JS.`
Closure Compiler will make it IE proof at the end, but I like having nice code in development. -
Seriously, the person who thought creating a monster like OpenSQL should be shamed in public. This thing really is the pinnacle of misanthropy and working with it feels like having a constant root canal treatment.9
-
Looking to get another keyboard and would like to hear some recommendations. I’d like something low profile if possible. Currently using a Keychron K3, which I do really like but I would also like to try something new.6
-
I made the Star Wars Crawl using vanilla web tech and show it on my website once the Konami Code is entered.
IT TOOK ME 2 HOURS, WHY WOULD I DO THIS? I always end up doing random mini-projects that amuse me but bring litteraly no added value to my work. 😂😭 -
When you're super OC and the design given to you is super inconsistent like really bruh?? and another thing is, client OKed it.

I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? Because I believe that if you really like something than you don't have doubts about it but am not sure if I am correct or not.8
-
I thought the web standards finally are a bit okay to work with. Just learnt that writing responsive HTML email templates really really feels like writing code which we did in the previous century. Tables. Tables everywhere. It's worse than table inception5
-
Calling out to all frontend devs:
What's your opinion on CSS in JS (e.g. styled-components)?
I really like the encapsulation and the ease of use but I don't like how it makes debugging more difficult.1 -
Python's wonderful `reduce` for the win. Using it makes you feel like a FP pro, but also makes code really unreadable sometimes. (Sigh)

-
Just a quick question: do you think investing in Ruby/on Rails is a good choice? I really like the language, but every time I mention it I feel like an alien.3

-
It's not often that I yell, or even write in all caps. And it would be very nice to be able to write in red, all caps, bold text but there's something that I would really like to say, or rather yell, to || at my systems development teacher (and a bunch of other people), and it's this:
STOP BEING SO FUCKING VAGUE ABOUT SHIT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T BE VAGUE ABOUT SHIT. I'm really really really really really really tired of listening to "probably" and "maybe" and "there's a chance that" about shit where those words shouldn't be applicable. I don't really wanna hear about what the C# compiler probably does (with like 2 different suggestions) and I don't wanna hear about what laws there might be in place and possibly and probably and oh god just stop -
Is client side rendering really that bad? Do you prefer sites without any JavaScript or are you ok with it?
To me it's very convenient to have JS in very dynamic pages. For things like documentation I think server side rendered pages are good enough. I mean it's 2017, right? Do we really need to care for those who deactivate JS? I mean I really like it to separate the front end backend.
What do you think?6 -
How to kill monotonicity?
Like, I like my work... I enjoy my work. I'm building things from scratch.
But the monotonicity is really making me bored and demotivated.6 -

I am a junior in college and I’m trying to get an internship this summer as a web engineer at a company I really like. I have never had a CS internship before and I’m not really sure how to prepare. What are the chances that I would have to do something like a whiteboard interview? Any tips or recommendations are welcome

Trying to learn AdonisJS. Looks like a really cool framework, but having a really hard time how all of it really comes together. I get the model-view-controller philosophy that Adonis abides by, but not really how it's implemented.
