F*CKING DESIGNERS.
Stop sending me your freaking PNG. Don't even dare to FREAKIN' make me use Chrome DevTools to get your FREAKIN' color our of your FREAKIN' PNG.
Give me all your colors in FREAKIN' hex, rgba, or whatever you want.
Give me all the fonts you used.
Give me all the sizes, is it percentage-based? Pixels based? Donuts-based?
I don't give a damn that you think you went responsive-first. Show me the damn responsive mockups. Not just the desktop sized with a note: "Don't worry mate, I made so that it all goes well when responsive".
Oh god. Oh god.
I'm not an artist, I give zero shit about how great it looks.
I'm a programming poet, I want to write code without having to open (or download it first through torrent) the damn photoshop, sketch, or whatever you use.
They take freakin' months to dump a mockup and we have days to make it happen. The pain.
The pain is strong with those damn designers.
Fuck.46 -
I've never had a great experience working with designers, but this one might be the laziest! Props if it's for a friend and unpaid though.15

CEO: You need to use git.
Designer: No
CEO: You can backup stuff.
Designer: No
CEO: You don't have to save copies!
Designer: No
CEO: You will use a really cool command line!
Designer: No
CEO: It has unlimited storage
Designer: So when we start?19 -

F_ money. We love our self respect more.6 -
Frontend is as hard as backend
An appreciation post for every single frontend developer out here who can bear customer, project managers and designers nagging
You guys deserve a gold medal23 -
Holy shit this UI/UX/Whatever looks good! Wish all apps could look this good. ++ to the Firefox App designers!16

fuck web designers who give 0 effort for design to be coding friendly. and then want the page to be responsive. GO FUCKURSELF.3
-
Designer: Can you hide scrollbar and still make web scrollable?
I: Sure.
Designer: Ok fine, i'll do that in next design.
I: Wait, how users will know the web has more content?
Designer: I'll put the mouse icon on the bottom.
I: It is not good idea. People can overlook it.
Designer: It will be fine.
I: I strongly recommend to you not to do it.
Designer: Why?
I: Confusion besides other reasons.
Designer: If you can do it, do it.
I: Ok than.
$request->getIP() == 'his_ip' ? 'hide-scrollbar';4 -
Hello Programmers and Designers! Stop assuming everyone in the development environment uses MacBook or Apple products. I Love my Windows and Android devices!!!35

When designers get the praise for a well running app, it's like waiters and waitresses getting the tip for a very good meal.3
-
"our placeholder shows an @ symbol, but please don't use an @ symbol!"
i'm so happy knowing that the devs and designers who created this app are earning 20x what i am
🤡🌎6 -
Dev: This content might be too large to fit into this area on mobile.
We might need to add scrolling or design it differently.
Designer: It fits perfectly in the design.
Dev: But the user might have a smaller screen size than in the design.
Designer: We don‘t optimize for small screens.
Dev: But we still need to handle it somehow.
Also, the text might be longer for other languages.
Designer: No problem, we will provide short text for all translations.
Dev: We have 30 languages and the translations are made by a third party. We can not control it.
Designer: We‘ll manage somehow.
Dev: Also, the user might be using an accessibility setting on the device which makes the font size larger.
Designer: Unlikely
Dev: Also, the available screen size might be reduced by the on-screen keyboard.
Designer: … Ok then.

It‘s always a conversation like this. It repeats indefinitely.9 -
*3weeks into the project*
Designer: I am done with the designs
Me* finally.
5Hrs Later:
Here's the link to the new designs for this project.1 -

WHY THE FUCKING FUCK CAN FUCKING DESIGNERS NOT FUCKING DESIGN TO FUCKING STANDARDS.
Do they have to just piss all over photoshop and expect us developers to turn their insanity into something that doe snot make us fucking cringe.
To top it off its some old ass legecy product bloated up with that useless peice of shit bootstrap, guess they forgot to mention that to the designer too, not that it would of made any difference with this pile of shit he churned out.1 -
You know what does my fucking head in?
Designers or developers who shit on Twitter bootstrap because of something to do with how it looks.
Bootstrap is a framework. Not a theme.
If I can look at your site and tell, just by looking, that you’ve used bootstrap, then you’re a lazy developer / designer.
A site / app should look like how it was designed by the designer (even if that’s you). It SHOULDN’T look like the default version of the css framework you’ve used.6 -
What the fuck is wrong with the designers? We have had meetings with the client, a proposal drawn up, a project spec written, budget agreed, witeframes drawn up exactly to spec. Designer involved in all stages for input and ideas. Now the designers have the wireframes, they are supposed to create based on these. No they make up what goes on the pages that bare no resemblance to the wireframes in terms of requirements. I am fucking fuming. I have sent the designs back with a note. Please provide designs based on the wireframes.17
-
Designer: in an effort to create our brand identity we've come up with a design pattern to use across Android, iOS, and web.
Me: this design goes against material design principles which we agreed we'd use. Also it looks like a mashup of iOS and Windows 10
Designer: just because it looks like an iOS/Windows 10 mashup doesn't mean it was designed for those platforms; it was designed as our brand for all platforms. We feel very strongly about keeping it, specifically the pieces that make you feel uncomfortable as an Android developer
Me: 🙄😑😣😒7 -
I really hate designers who get worked up over a few pixels difference between their mockup and the end result.
I really, really, really, really, thoroughly despise designers who get worked up over a few pixels when they keep changing the mockup without notifying me, when we're already *weeks* past our intended launch date.
Shove those pixels up your ass, you fucking fuck7 -
Why don't designers use git, or at least use version numbers in their files?
Looking at around 20 files in my downloads folder called "final" and it's bloody annoying.9 -
To all the developers fighting for a good architecture, and the designers fighting for good UX. You guys are the real heroes fighting the eternal fight.
Here's to you! -
Why are so much software developers working on open-source projects, but only so few designers?
A proper UI could increase the userbase a lot. I am quite sure that a lot of projects could benefit from good designers.12 -
Client: I want my site to look exactly like the design.
Me: Of course, but I'm assuming you want it responsive...
Client: yes, I want it to look exactly like the design on all devices.
Me: but that's not how...
Project manager: of course the site will be fully responsive and look exactly the same on all devices.
Me: but...fine.
1 week later...
Project manager: The site looks horrible on mobile!
Me: it matches the design perfectly...3 -
Designers that continually use non-webfonts, KNOWINGLY, and then get pissy when the site doesn't look EXACTLY like the concept.11
-
When designers use screen to give images transparency and set black text to 80% opacity instead of making it gray 🙂🔫
-
There's a weird joy in implementing the design style guide for a new project.
Now, if only the designers would stop making changes to it I would be so happy.5 -
I hate some parts of this company.
They literally have a "Designer" which made a mockup for our new UI and honestly when I first saw it I almost threw up.
Having made a lot of designs myself for personal projects and for fun I LITERALLY SAW he barely put any effort into it he just threw some stuff together took a shit on it and called it a UI.
For that interview we were actually expecting wireframes and not mockups since we were not sure what workflow we wanted for the UI.
Of course this would have come with feedback from us and then would have been reiterated and this was clear from our last talk with him.
Maybe he didn't know what wireframes were ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If this wasn't enough, he was also consistently misspelling words all over the place, not aligning parts of the UI, misplacing common UI elements and stupid stuff like having a GIGANTIC + button for adding a object to a list for a NO TOUCH SCREEN UI.
(The plus button was all the way to the bottom left of the screen as far away from the list so users get a good hand workout).
But everyone just loved it because "We have known him for a long time and he has a big portfolio so he must know what he's doing".
I couldn't bring in anything, you truly notice the difference between "I don't agree with your opinion but you are heard" and "Shutup my buddy the designer is amazing".
I was not being an asshole I was giving critique on specific parts of the UI and not just saying "it's shit" hoping we could improve on it. Still having naive hope for the future of this project.
He even looked kinda mad and irritated by my opinion and just looked at the people previously mentioned.
I truly hate people who just keep using the exact same worthless piece of garbage people because they have known them for a long time.
Personally I wanted to grab him off his chair and throw him out through the window, 2 floors down, straight into the garbage bin, making damn sure he doesn't accidentally fall into the recycle bin.
Never ever would I enjoy or like this application's UI if I had to work with it as a user.3 -
My first project at the job was implenting a website, designed by the same company we mostly worked with.
It was very stressful because half of the 2 months calculated for finishing the project, these genius designers needed for their design. Until then, I had almost no tasks to do...
When the designs finally came, I worked on it and two weeks later was a meeting for review and to decide about some details.
These fuckers then concluded, that the whole design did not fit the page and that they would rework it.
Two weeks later, on the planned release day, we finally received it. A completely fucking different design! Wow!
My boss was pretty angry and so was I. We had to move the release 4 weeks ahead, the client was pissed like a stinking hobo and it needed a lot of convincing to keep that client...
It's fucking nerve-wracking as well that we always have to wait in most projects for weeks for clients or designers to add the content before we can publish a website.
They don't seem to care if they have 2 months or 2 weeks, we never were able to release one single project on time, because of these lazy fuckers...3 -
Wombat is days away before launching his side project. It is a platform to sell website components for devs and designers.
I am very nervous about it. 😬😬😬10 -
When you register a domain for a project and you get all the spam asking do you want designers or developers.1

Reviewed some Unity game code yesterday
[HideInInspector] public NavMeshAgent agent;
Me:”why is this hidden if it’s public”
Dev: “so designers don’t fuck it up”
Me: “then why have it public”
Dev: “I need it to be set by another class”
Me: “then make it a private bar and create a get:set function”
Dev: “Why?”
Me: “Because hiding a public variables from designers is a bad model and by standards things now to be shown to the inspector should be private”
This shit is why I have no confidence in devs my age10 -
Dear Mobile Designers,
There is a difference between mobile first and mobile preferred. Stop being lazy and take advantage of desktop real estate. My monitor is not a big ass tablet.
Thank you,
Desktop End User1 -
What is wrong with all these WordPress designers who go around tagging themselves as Full stack developers, it really sucks4
-
Looking at a picture of a bulding in designers computer. Two clients and the boss around him.
Boss: "Could you rotate the building so we can see what is behind?"
...1 -
I just had to put a Button + Link on a page.
the btn opens a link
and the link doesnt open a link, but copies to clip board.
And if u dont see whats wrong with this picture, you are part of the problem.4 -
Client: We are in a tight budget, but you'll get a lot of exposure
Me: NO! I have enough exposure on my camera.. 😉😜1 -

A few years ago I was working in a startup where the designer was given way too much decisional power (he was friends with the owner).
He had a tendency to keep editing parts of the design during the development phases, so when we had to work on a new big section of the application, before starting the tront-end development, I asked him to confirm that the mockups were final.
He confirmed the design was final and was not going to change.
10 days later, of couse, he sent a new, completely different, set of mockups. The startup owner expected the new design to be implemented without moving the deadline.
(I left that startup shortly after. The issues with the designer were just the tip of the iceberg.
The owner tried to keep a payment hostage to "force" me to sign a new 1 year contract. He backtracked when he thought I was recording the call. I got my payment and left.)1 -
You would think that by now designers would realize that when they are designing a web page at a width of 1600px that it is going to look significantly different on a really large screen...6
-
I can’t stand how designers insist on over designing <select> elements. No, 50 divs with aria attrs will not make this component as usable as the native elements4
-
Another day, another time exporting svgs from Figma, sizing them, and exporting them to png into our app as the developer.
But no, I get it, what designers do is extremely taxing on the brain and any additional steps must be excruciating! Let me do anything that requires even the lowest of double-digit IQ! After all, I'm your local resident full stack clown™️!
🤡4 -
My least favorite part of my personal website project is trying to make it look good. I'll never make fun of web designers again 😱3
-
No-code web design tools are made for the sole purpose of lacking features in order to torture a developer after marketing or sales requests something that the tool cannot do, or can but requires a very roundabout way of doing things. Extra points for things that have a JS API instead of letting you inject the damn thing.4
-
Designer: here's the layout/mockup file, how long will it take to build this page if I extract all the assets for you?
Me: well if you extract them in the right format and size this time, probably by end of day...
Designer: perfect! (Actually gets me everything in the right format)
*4:30 pm*
Me: alright I'm done
Designer: wait where are all the videos, and animations, and the parallax, and hover states and tool tips and interactive charts?
Me: WTF are you talking about? You gave them all to me as images?
Designer: ...they are supposed to be interactive.
Me: 😑 -
I want a font-awesome icon for devRant. Would be nice for mine and others' sites. Any designers around to submit as a suggestion for next version (or for other icon libraries)?5

/* made a encryption app */
Developers and Designers and folks try it.. It's called Crypten
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...17 -
To download data from Google drive, click on the download icon. But to download data from Google contacts, click on the upload icon! Why? because that's not upload but export, at least in the minds of Google's UI designers if there are any.1
-
Wish there would be a project, every one, PMs, designers, clients, bosses and of course programmers as well, has to code2
-
I never understood why designers design radio and checkbox inputs like that. I guess the standard design is too much accessible.19

Game reviews on Steam are now like, “Not recommended. Seemed like a good game, but the story is linear and there’s really nothing to do.” …with approximately 180hrs of playtime on record for a $25 game.
Do us all a favor and please continue to stare at your phone while walking into oncoming traffic.8 -
Still in beta but it looks like there's finally a version control for designers.
https://blog.prototypr.io/8-reasons...8 -
It is true what they say; Designers are from Omicron Persei 7, Developers are from Omicron Persei 9.2
-
Fucken Designers - Have you ever heard of fucken consistency?
Different looks and feels for the same thing in every single page? Wat the fuck man - I am trying to write clean and modular code for components and you guys are making hard -
Bomb Alert:
Fuck Designers *middle finger*6 -
I hate this trend. Take up the whole screen for one big nothing. Yep, 1920x1080 is apparently not enough to show me more than motto, one link and freaking big image nobody care about.
Fuck, i must code it. Oh damn, there is 8 same sections on the whole page. Don't worry, not a single one of them worth reading! FUCK YOU designers!14 -
Designers use plugin in WP to modify UI. CSS and JS is saved (somewhere?) in database. No version control. Changes are made across different envs at the same time and all need to be migrates to prod later.
Pls2 -
Client said the images need to be responsive and go full width.
Told her that would make the images massive and we should have a limit in height a cropping enabled.
She told me it should look nice with full width images uncropped.
Fucking designers said the same fucking thing.
Client today: Hey images are huge. Make sure they look nice.
*sigh*8 -
I think that @dfox should start a UX rant, I'm sure there are plenty of designers that want to vent a little 😄2
-
So I’ve requested images for the dark mode because the existing images are very bright and look bad when dark mode is enabled.
After a few days the designer says that it’s done and sends me the figma link.
And what do I see there? He added the screens but in dark mode with the same bright images! 😂
I mean… even if he misunderstood me… doesn’t it look odd to him?4 -
I appreciate if someone explains this to me:
Designers ask that we put three images in a grid layout on an Android device so that they can compare which image looks better, and guess what is changed in theses three images: font size changes one point in each image.
My question is: Is this normal? Designers need to see it on a screenshot to be able to decide which fits better?9 -
So... My boss is "hard working", meaning that she'd rather edit and upload a html file every morning at 5am for the last 5 years and manually send a push notification notifying the user that the new file is up than learning a little bit about automation (cron? IFTTT?) and even after letting her know about those options she has "no time"
She'd rather keep source code (pug, sass), manually build on local computer and upload to live servers instead of learning git and letting me setup once and for all CI/CD
SERIOUSLY!?!? NO TIME!?!? But there's time to do things at a turtle pace like in the 90s... 🤦♂️5 -
Sprint for a website due Monday, would of been nice to get the website designs before Wednesday :/ and the content before yesterday.....2
-
First time working with designers so maybe someone else can share their experiences. I was expecting all the images/logos to use in the app, but I got an illustrator file containing all mockups. Are they expecting that I extract each image from the mockups? They didn't even use multiple layers...4
-
##Design to front-end conversion
Me - Send me the designs so i can start working it
Graphic Designer - Done ( Sends PSD files )
Me - Send me them separately, element by element, with transparency, color codes and flattened designs not PSD's
GD - Done
Me - Opens email to see elements that should be transparent saved as jpg's
Me - Opens PSD's, crop and save elements.
Meanwhile explains next time do this and that so it'll be easier.
Usually this happens few times a month6 -
"It’s not uncommon for designers to confuse a beautiful looking product with one that works beautifully." - Braden Kowitz
-
Designers, if you're on revision No. 12 and have changed every element of a design it's not a 'tweak', it's a sign you didn't think it through the first time...2
-
Fucking idiot designers providing design in .jpg and .pdf, how the fuck am I to know what padding or margin is to this element. and at the last moment, they ask to just to put down images as "patches" and make sure it's "clickable", man fuck this!6

DON'T INTRODUCE NEW FEATURES IN THE WIREFRAME, WHEN WE ALREADY DISCUSSED ALL THE FEATURES IN DETAIL3
-
Operation people (devs, designers, content writers) said clients are being unreasonable.
Clients said the outputs and results are not satisfactory.
Now I understood the phrase I have seen a lot here. -
I honestly have no problems with UI designers, I really don't and actually respect the work they do..
But god dammit, those fucktards should try designing the UI with actual code rather than photoshop or whatever they use these days..9 -
When your self-proclaimed "senior frontend web developer with 4 years experience" colleague asks you for the difference between "div .x" and "div.x" in CSS. That is when you understand why so many developers don't like having to work with designers.9

"Most of the mediocre design today comes from designers who are faithfully doing as they were taught in school: they worship at the altar of the visual." - Michael Bierut
-
Asked our designer today if a 2px radius is really needed. He said yes. So we showed him his designs and he said it looked shit... thinking we chnaged the radius... bloody designers3
-
Pet hate... Designers supplying flats with "click here for some shit" "to contact us Click here". There should never be an instance when you use the words click here. Besides being really bad shit for many reasons, how do you click on a touch screen. Lazy bastards.5
-
are there some graphic designers here? 😎
Do you code?
Did you learn some stuff here on devRant? What did you learn?
What do you design mostly?
How do you deal with programmers who don't obey your design specs because they're lazzy fucks? muhaha 😆
how do you think this profession will evolve in the next 10 years?
and you devs, what do you think of us? what are your experiences with designers? good and bad ones?8 -
Apparently, as a front end developer, I do not need a Creative Cloud license anymore. I will have to rely on the Designers to cut up all my assets.
I could barely hold a straight face while I posted this rant.3 -
Designer: hey, can you add this thing
Me: Sure, but that's probably a day's worth of work
Designer: oh, I thought it was just a line of code
Me: 😑😡🤦♂️ -
A full day discussion with 'non-designers' to decide on a repeatative abstract image that is to be used for background in a website.
A fcking full day..
What the hell!!
And the final selected image was the same that we started with.1 -
working with UX/UI designers who don't understand the concept of style guides or reusable UI components is torturous, why don't they understand things work a bit different in real life than in Photoshop, Illustrator or Sketch
-
When designers or clients design the smallest visual features that acording to them "should not take long" and they wont budge when you tell them it's stupid. I still charge more but its so fucking anoying.5
-
My client might just make our designer ragequit. 30 days ago he said: ohh this login page looks empty, I want images in the background. 15 days ago he said: I like the images, but change this part and this part. Today he said: I don't like any of the imagea, get rid of them. ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)3

TIL that our creative design team that produces our web designs/layouts are all print designers. They were stumped when I gave them a wireframe mock up as the base for a website design for the first time, with no defined pixel measurements.7

having the best IDE's with UI designers,
ML based auto completions,
Free food. but $4000 per month

having average computer,
having only notepad or vim*, without UI designers
NO auto completions!
paid food. but $40000 per month

Got this design for a button.
Now I'm writing an essay in the ticket about how this is problematic for localization and accessibility.37 -
Here is an idea.
What if web designers make their own portfolio with "The Wayback Machine"?
It is free, reliable, fast, and universal.
Ideas below in comments!8 -
Currently working on a new project with a group of people, (about 8 guys, no ladies 😒).
Anyways, out of the eight, there are only 3 devs, 3 designers and 2 main idea guys. I'm a member of all 3 sets and to top it of, the other designers don't know what they are doing.
Life is beautiful, fucking beautiful.2 -
Considering that I'm the designer on most projects and work mostly frontend... Well yeah I'm a bad experience for myself from times to times 🤔 but at least I know my tools and web limitations (haven read others rants about ignorant designers).. so.. that's something 🎉

"For front end developers that don't like Sketch". Say what!? Sketch is the best thing that's happened to front end designers in terms of design tools. Anyone who prefers Photoshop to Sketch is a sadomasochistic.1

There should be a catch for lorem ipsum on google translate. I tried to translate a text and it took me a while to understand that not me but the web designers fucked up.3

So fellow dev asked me design suggestion knowing that I did design way before, I provided him with ok-ish solution and he said to me: 'this is way better response than designer gave me!'. So curious as I am I asked him what did he said? He said : 'Yeah, sure!' on everything he asked if it is ok to add to screen!
That feeling when devs are better designers than designers you have at disposal!rant designer developer can't do everything by myself designers vs developers aint nobody got time for that dev3 -
One years free HTML5 support comes with their CCTV cameras apparently. Hate it when website designers don't check work.5

Shout out to all Web Designers.
I have made a chrome extension to put the IPhoneX notch in every page.
Thank me later

Sometimes I really hate designers.
I was collecting the colors used in a new layout and this only the part with gray colors of what I've ended up with.
(I may just merge some of those, like 7 and 8. Also none of them are results of transparent shading, I made sure)5 -

Context: large project moves to touch friendly UI, request and initial specs late last year, specs initial mockups early this year, designer promises final design before end of Q1.
Two sprints into development no fucking design, meeting today about it, designer has no fucking clue about what we actually agreed to last time. Promises again to have it for next time.
What the actual fuck? How difficult it is to least read up the fucking notes and do your fucking job that you are being paid for? Had a half fucking year!
After meeting...
Me: why do we even keep him around?
Pm: he is really overbooked...
Me: my balls are overbooked, don't promise if you can't deliver! (Leaves meeting room)
Fairly confident that this is the last project with this guy...
Am I the only one who just hates working with designers?2 -
Sorry if this isn't very dev related:
Does anybody know any good freelancing websites for artists, illustrators, ui/ux designers, etc. ?
I've seen upwork, but they're so uptight they don't accept everyone.5 -
me printing some variables and function returns and such in <pre> tags while developing/debugging and immediately see designers' entries on bugherd saying the site doesn't work and shit my that. smh...1

I hate the feeling when you're creating an app then the designers provided you a mockups that aren't intuitive, it makes me lazy to code 😒2 -
How would I go about finding a game dev project that I can follow where I can view progress on a designers level? I want to see a game built from the ground up, detailed error reports included?6

To all the developers and designers that build these fancy motion-blur and depth-of-field effects for videogames.

Does anyone think tech recruiters are failed used car salesmen?
Bad experiences this week
One reached out to me on clearance jobs to apply for a job that I applied for, interviewed and was turned down for because of course they do not know Javascript is not Java and they were looking for a Java developer. She didn’t remember and then never responded. Out of spite I replied all to the last email that company sent me but of course no one responded.
This person who says that she is a recruiter for GOOGLE does not know the difference from UX designer and UX developer.
“ UX design still involves coding... idk where you got information that UX designers don't code but they absolutely do. UX designers are simply front end software engineers that work on refining the user experience of a particular program app or website.”
I don’t know because I used to be a fucking UX developer and used to work with UX designers??? Who didn’t code because figuring out what humans what is tough enough on it’s own. UI designers may know html/css but that is it.
I know we are going into a recession and I need to start being nice to these dumb recruiters because I may need them one day.2 -
Any service designer here?
I have some questions, to you the most badass designers of all. 😎
for those who don't know what service design is yet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...1 -
Took a college class - think it was called "Programming for Designers" - and the "teacher," aka CS grad student, just sat and played Pocket Tanks the whole time.

That moment when you are 50% ahead in the sprint and then the designer comes and says:
"I updated the design a bit"..
boom! an entire new website...
Ok maybe not that bad, but .... sometimes..... *sight* .... web designers :/ ... -
When the designer asks you for a meeting to discuss about some changes on Monday after you've just finished the entire front end working till late on Friday night...

Why Web Designs are all the same ? Is it Bootstrap & Cie's fault or the Web Designers one ?4 -

I do front end development.
Front end web developers are NOT web designers
I repeat I am NOT a web designer
I'm just salty that job listings always want web designers that also know front end development. -
Is it necessary for a UX designer to have front-end programming knowledge to give technically feasible and maintainable designs??4

Just in : Saw an HTML designer writing professional "coder" in his resumé. Can HTML(and CSS) designers be considered coders?6

When you have to awk tell your boss that having that tenth icon in the header menu is not really UX friendly I feel like I punched a puppy cause his face fell and a small part of him died...
Any UX designers/engineers here? :(
What's the thing that annoys you about UX designers? Or designers in general? Just this is my first job so I don't wanna annoy any developer...
Sorry this is so random.. Anyways have a lovely Sunday evening..3 -
Don't designers need a designRant ??
But what type of stuff designers gon rant about tho, really wanna find out!!!?7 -
I wonder if all these here facemasks will inspire designers for a new nextgen below the fold 2.0 style era in design, I mean how relatable are the folds3

Client is a group of designers and asks for a website reskin, we made the previous one.
They spend like 4 months fixing up their design and after they're done, we developer look at it and decide what can be done and what can't be done and we go on like this for a few days.
At the end, I begin the development of the website, the data structure is already done, it's there and it's working.
The design is there, we all asked to not modify ANYTHING about it.
After I finish making the website, which is kinda unusable bc of the UI, they decide to completely redo the about page (which took like 3 days to get done)
After all it's done they just say "ok, now we gotta just add animations and transitions between all of the pages"
It took like 3 months to finish...
Is it too hard for clients to actually have a specific idea on what they want to do? -
"Designers deal in ideas. They give shape to ideas that shape our world, enrich everyday experiences, and improve our lives. Where there’s confusion, designers fashion clarity; where there’s chaos, designers construct order; where there’s entropy, designers promote vitality; where there’s indifference, designers swell passion; where there’s mediocrity, designers imbue excellence; and where there’s silence, designers lend voice. " - Ken Peters2

First post and of course it's a rant.
I work for a mid sized development agency with approx 50 developers heading up the main development backend team.
So, on this one project the head of design goes through the client agreed spec but starts adding loads off additional UI elements and data that isn't in the spec, isn't collected anywhere and isn't needed
When reviewing the mock ups I raise this and push back saying it all needs to be taken out as we dont have that data and that the additional elements are not recoverable in the sprint time.
Designer sends the mockups to the client anyway and gets sign off from the client, who now expects all this additional work in the same sprint and at no extra cost to what we agreed for the sprint.
After an aggravating day trying to figure wtf we are going to do, I end up working until 3am (having started at 8am the previous day) implementing the addition shit, which needed to be collected and surfaced throughout the entire back end.
Owner of the business walks in this morning and gets told by the management team about how late I was working and what had gone on.
His response........
Pay for all employees in the business to have a takeout lunch on the company.
Best of it all, I was so busy catching up on the shit I should have been doing, that I didnt even get my free food!!!!
Why do designers think everything is so simple and just takes a few key presses?!?1 -
The designers kept changing the layout for a web app every week and refused to use a version control system so they sent the new files by slack every releaserant linux rocks pichardo for president nightmares git tags wk104 deletefacebook mac sucks too designers vcs windows sucks9

Monday morning meetings:
- Reminding designers what the app looks like to then discuss a defect.
- Reminding everyone else where the online meeting link is, despite the fact we have used it everyday, for the past 7 weeks. -

You know what I love?
Designers wasting my fucking time over letter kerning... that’s an hour I’ll never get back.3 -
In this project I’m working on, designers want to decrease their amount of work by blaming technical constraints.
The supposed “technical constraints” actually do not exist, as the stakeholders did tell me in the beginning “make sure that these issues do not exist within the selected solution”.
Now, I don’t have a single problem with them making their lives (and by consequence mine) easier by decreasing the scope of work, but I have said at least 2-3 times by now that there are no technical constraints, and started to do some paperwork trail that I did say that and when.
Not looking forward to see how all of this will turn out, but hoping that for once I am covering my back enough.3 -
I do not have any problem with designers
But with design itself...

Feature request: I would like to see older devs represented in the avatar choices. Not sure yet how that could be portrayed. I’ll leave that up to designers. Maybe just a little grey on the sides of the heads for hair color?3

Why in colleges people make groups I don't understand. wtf happens to people after hearing a python developer and website designers are not friends2

I've always been a strong critic of the mac operating system and apple in general for they're overpriced products. few months back my old laptop kicked the bucket and repairing it was not an option as i was sick of charging the laptop after every 3-4 hours and had to purchase a new laptop immediately. loooking at my options around 50k rs or 700$ all windows laptops available in indian markets sucked (except for lenovo 320s) so i made the shift to macbook air 2017.my daily work involves photoshop illustrator and a dash of premiere pro. I also work on nodeJS and python using the pycharm and atom IDEs. After using it for a month i feel in love with mac platform and macos. Its a wonderful experience. gone are the days of crashes and the windows updates (ugh). the boot of the laptop is like magic and softwares like wmware imovie and notes keynote are f**king awesome. Long hours of work have become fun rather than hell dealing with constant windows gimmicks and bad battery optimisation on linux.
An explanation why all developers (except for the ones who require high powered gpus) graphic designers should shift to macos rn.
Advantages of using mac
No forced updates update whenever now or a f'ing month later no probs.
better battery optimisation than linux
no more installing os again and again (ubuntu)
better vm than virtualbox (vmware)
terminal for running bash commands
no crahes
Xcode platform
trackpad is worlds better than the best windows trackpad
Disadvantages
some softwares not available for macos
storage is generally less on macbooks
UI is simple (less elaborated than windows)
Workarounds
get a vm and install linux(vmware fusion 8)
ps. u may not need it though
wine and wine bottler for using windows apps
get a microsd to sd adapter for macbook and expand storage5 -

Borrowed our designers desktop figurine / mannequin , i read somewhere that there is something called rubber duck debugging so i tried it but on a mannequin , honestly it works like a charm i have fixed a bug in the code thanks to talking to a inanimate object. -
This is so true, a pain in the arse not only for designers but devs too: https://youtube.com/watch/...1

The moment when the UI designers had included their design as a zeplin link in your Jira story. You finished coding it, the designers made changes to it and expected me to magically know about it.2

Godamn designer making the ui for iphone 5s without taking into account that we have to support the iphone 4s which is also 2x !

The Redstone bleeding edge builds are probably the worst for designers - Illustrator behaves as if it's high!

Fucking hate shopify,
Fucking hate designers who just keep stacking work apart from original design
I loved front end but last job made me hate it so much.
Damn those clients -
Do logic designers socialize? I've never seen any non-serious non-onky-business conference, talk or whatever.
Yeah sure they aren't as hip as JavaScript frameworks but... -
I hate it when designers just LOVE to use blend mode multiply everywhere, and the client is looking at the website in IE asking why it's not the same as design.

Argument in the office today when the designers went rogue, ignoring the PM's agreed plan with the client and started mock-ups for what they thought would look better. You’re too much like a secret society.
So I can create an account but not post to it unless I get “drafted” by someone on the inside.
A secret society of designers. What’s next. -
its frustrating when i want to be a game developer but have n0 design skill.
i mean, there are apps out there that help designers make games without programming skills.
but i have not seen one that help devs make games without design skills.1 -
Decided to act like the bigger guy and hand a website to a client who doesn't respect developers n designers. But, want to teach him a lesson sometime. Apart from a kill switch. Any ideas? Custom function or something? Hasn't even paid me yet.3

Product designer keeps on changing designs and managers approve it every single time. Totally frustrated to work. Why can't they think of scenarios based on design? Why should they allow me work on something guaranteeing that things won't be changed but change every single time.
I know product specs change, but too much of change frustrates the developer. Why does no body care for developer's mindset? -
can t wait to get my degree and get back to coding - bitching about designers who merge layers is more fun than bitching about circular definitions in the textbooks
-
Frontend devs (of any variety):
Do any of you create your own illustrations, animations, etc for the products you create, or is this handled by designers?
At my current place (app and web agency) we leave it all to the designers, but my manager said that at the last few places they'd been (all web agencies), the frontend developers did that stuff themselves4 -
Just completed a web project for a fintech start up. We usually complain about clients’ demands and satisfactions. But look, some designers are full of surprises! SMH.

There are many issues with designers. Let's skip hamburger fuckups, navigations on bottom or other stuff. What pisses me of most are tables. Simple tables. As many times as i remember i told them: plaease, design this table with full borders around cells. Your design will make problems with rowspans a cellspans. Why you keep doing that? This is not like tables list in your fucking IS, where you tracking your shitty designers tasks.
How to talk with them? Blow their dicks off before discussion so they feel happy?
But you know, i'm just coder... I have no main word on design things.10 -
If I'm so fucking vital to the meeting then why the fuck did you made the meeting so fucking inconveniently early for me so you can put your new fucking designers in the fucking call.

Why there is always a communication gap between designers and developers? A designer should always think from a developer's perspective if a design is feasible or not. Just making a mess of waves in the front end won't make a good design.5

#adobexd got a new update as they do every month and i am totally loving it.
@adobe this month got a new update and these are the things you can see now in adobexd.
➡ Free plugins :- Yeah you can add plugins to your adobe xd now using which you can do a lot of stuff like pulling avatars , building icons , getting free ilustrations and much more .
For this go to the slide menu panel on the left.
On the bottom click on plugins icon
choose anyone and install .
Really great and handy feature .
➡Another one is that you can now use subscript and superscript for your text ,thats also cool feature as well.
Ok thats it
Let me know if you have any cool plugin you like from it . >>>>2 -
Told designer just use the same map we have spent a lot of time build the scripts and cards with a simple scroller.
She proceed to fucking add a slider with autoscroller with a fucking filtering system.3 -

What to search for when I want to see how someone has solve interesting system design problem?11 -

God, these designers who ask them for an icon and a week goes by without giving it to you, plus they use Zeplin and don't know how to export through the tool. In the end, you end up going to Figma yourself and make the icon and export it in 5 minutes.
This happens to me with 9 out of 10 designers that I work with. Has something similar happened to you?1 -
