Working 600 km from home on my first big web project, with a raspberry pi as server (located at home). Decided to reboot it today in order to see if it would resolve a problem.

Imagine this universe (the current branch), which is made up of a series of events (commits).

- reorder events (git rebase)
- transfer to another universe (git checkout)

Had a follow up meeting today to resolve the issue of Product ignoring our comments about possible issues, better ways to do it etc.
New rules:
- We are allowed to suggest to Product that they might be doing something wrong
- We are not allowed to tell product they are doing something wrong
- If Product don’t listen, that’s fine, we will document our comments to protect us later.
Conclusion:
Product are too sensitive to have a conversation with. We are now going to let them fuck everything up, make some notes and say “I told you so” at a later date.

Any modern IDE or text editor will show you syntax errors immediately, and even if they didn't you can usually resolve them in under a minute.6 -

On call this week, so I answered the phone when it rang, because it's my d job, but WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU CALLING ME AT 0410 MY TIME WHEN MY COWORKER IS ON THE CLOCK AT 0710 HIS TIME AND HE'S ABLE TO TAKE THE CALL?! You didn't need me. It was the same issue as yesterday, BUT I DIDN'T FIX A DAMN THING. It resolved itself. The "customer" you had on the phone to work with me to resolve the issue didn't need to be called either, just the application dev. Stop calling people who don't need to be awake just because we were the ones on the call when it self-resolved and none of us know what's going on.4

I check the PR conflicts are there.
Me: are you sure you pushed your changes @dev ? I don't see them resolved
Dev: takes another day and pushes changes to resolve conflicts.
Me: merges PR to master becaus he based it on master, I will sync the developer branch myself.

I write to dev: Next time base your changes on develop branch and resolve conflicts before making PR.

Today I was talking about merge conflicts with a group of devs. One of them asked if any of us had ever rushed to merge a PR before another dev could merge their PR, knowing there were going to be conflicts. Some were more ashamed to admit it than others, but in the end everyone was guilty of doing it at least once :)
Anyone ever do that to avoid being the one who has to resolve a conflict?2 -
My phone just froze. But this one time, instead of being mad at it for stopping I had the thought that it's probably working harder than when things are going smoothly. So I watched with compassion as my phone tried to resolve its internal struggle, it being so overwhelmed that it could no longer communicate with me. So my host of choice decided to migrate an old site to a new set of IPs without warning yesterday, down side to a VPS I guess.
Now this wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t on a dedicated IP you wankers.
DNS won’t resolve to new location yet and Virtual hosts contained the old IPs and for some fuck of a reason the httpd file is auto generated 😡so updating it will be lost on reboot.
Like What the flying fuck you imbeciles, this site has been up and running for 5+ years on this IP.
I barely do any maintenance for t as it’s just an old horse sitting on the web but fuck you don’t need to fuck with it or atleast give some fucking warning before you go drop it offline 😡1 -
MySQL fell down the stairs again and dropped tables all over the datacenter
the affected servers tried to notify me in advance but spamd wasn't able to scan their messages so IT JUST DIDN'T SEND THEM

Also, it looks like we are no longer using lerna? If that's right, let's remove the dependency; its dependencies give some security audit messages at install.

I will probably be responsible for automating deployment of this (I deployed the webapp on cloudflare pages and there is no work that needs to be done. "automating deployment" literally means replacing npm with pnpm). I disagree that it's good enough for now.

Ok. so my ISPs port 53 was DDoSed and I couldnt resolve hostnames anymore.
The only app that worked was Telegram because it (thankfully) calls an ip and doesnt use a DN.
The friends at @codrTalk were so kind to resolve like 20 sites for me by hand in order for me too 1) find out what happened 2) find hotfixes 3) download tor

I just had to give my self a written copyright permission to publish an android app for related to my own website as it was violating googles impersonation policy without it.
And the best part about all this, is it took google 3 days to respond to my initial complaint just to find out the reason why they suspended my app and than another 2 days to resolve it all, after I provided all the "legal" documents1 -

A good coder seems to be some one who does mistakes quickly and has strategies on how to resolve them even quicker.
The speed at which you create/resolve your problem is the experience curve at which you are learning.
How do you deal with headaches and frustration when spending hours on the same issue?
What are common efficient strat for debugging?
I know this sounds very generalised but i feel like it takes me days to do small things and need to take breaks all the time to relieve the pressure.

The best teacher that I've had is one of the teachers at my university lab.
He teaches Data Structures. We had some programming assignments and I was good at it, but whatever I'd do, he'd always find bugs, ask me to resolve it and he'd always give me challenges in the lab which is fun in the lab environment. University labs usually sticks to the sylabbus. I actually learned alot from that experience..

A project I'm working on uses Elastic for internal monitoring and logs. The customer asked to access those logs - not something we'd normally do, but it's isolated from other things we use and there's no critical data there, so what the heck, let them have it.
Ever since, we're getting tons of questions like "There are tons of [insert random info message] all the time, do you have any plans to resolve them?" and it gets to the point where I'm just about ready to scream back "NO, SUZAN, BOOKING NOT COMPLETED MANS THE USER F###ING CANCELLED IT, IT'S NOT SOMETHING I CAN FIX IN THE CODE"

Get a call from a customer asking if I can come check out her “printer”. Okay...
Get there and it’s not just a printer but an embroidery machine - never worked on them in my life and I’m not embarrassed to admit that.
I express that to her but tell her that I’ll definitely check it out and I get the reply - “you own a repair shop and have never worked on one of these, I don’t feel comfortable with you working on it.” - even though she had tried “fixing it” and completely fucked up the application and printer moreso than when it had originally stopped working.
Alright, bitch... I’m sorry that I haven’t worked on every fucking embroidery machine that’s ever been made. I apologize that I’m not familiar with your fucking machine, but if you would give me some time I assure you I can resolve your fucking problem; I imagine it’s (l)user error anyway. But no, you go ahead and send it off to the company that made it with a minimal charge of XXX$ and let them resolve your problem.
Yes, I run a computer/printer/phone repair shop, but that doesn’t automatically mean that I specialize in your FUCKING problem, but I can assure you I’d handle it.

Me setting up Webpack for a project
Error: can't resolve ./src
Guess what? ./src exists. So I go searching for an answer, and it turns out webpack looks for ./src/index.js and if it can't find it then it throws an error.
But the error message is: can't resolve ./src
The issue was reported ages ago but webpack devs never improved the error message
THIS IS WHY WEBPACK SUCKS 💩
Yes it might seem like a little detail but it just makes it all the more obvious that Webpack sucks right from the start when you set up a project the error message is stupid and unspecific3 -

We both spent the weekend to setup OpenVPN + Pi-Hole on Oracle free tier.
He hand held me through the entire process, was super patient with my silly queries and in fact explained me everything so well that it got imprinted in my mind.
And ofc, he was super quick to debug and resolve issues and handed me all the commands for quick execution.

I really like Kotlin as a language, but Gradle makes me feel nauseated.
Pulling in deps without getting errors, then the library won't resolve because of some version mismatch (still, no error or warning on build, until I try to import the dependency in the code, and then just "unable to resolve <library>" without details). All of the documentation on the internet is either super specific for Android projects, or for an ancient Gradle version. Feels like I'm back in Haskell's "Cabal Hell".

Communication.
I started coding at Engineering school (so like 4 yrs ago) and even if there were projects by group, I kinda learned it all the way by myself so I actually learned to code alone. And to resolve my issues alone.
And it costs me a job right after my internship. Was a big problem since I was almost alone (someone worked also on it but they was on multiple project at the same time so not 100% available).
That was one of my biggest fear in my career and one of my biggest challenge too in my personal development.
And so, like 8 months later, I got a job, I'm in a big team and no more problem of communication. That's something I'm very proud of. But I'm still young in my career.1 -

A ticket was written in 2021 to migrate that site's hosting and logging to the new services our org started using.
My team kept avoiding it since it was a cheap unimportant site.
in 2023 we were about to finally take action - then we hear "Turns out the new hosting platform and logging platform are way too expensive - I know all of you have migrated to these new services but you gotta revert and go back the old ones til we figure this out"
We didn't have to do squat.

I'm really sick of the "six-figure" advertisement that the industry uses to encourage more people to go into programming. The amount of people who hate coding with a passion but are in it because they want money is staggering. A lot of them end up dropping out. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who dearly loves this field. Truthfully, this approach won't resolve our retention problems.2

I have run into crippling bugs in huge essential systems (state dmv new system, the ticket system utility marking) which they were oblivious to until I went out of my way, like a stalker to get some contact of someone remotely related to someone I could drop this info in the lap of, and so far it was a total shock to them (the dmv system was taken offline for 3 days to resolve)
I get not wanting to run a helpdesk to support users, but give technical users some contact info ( even if you think you have full coverage analytics because, being software, it may have a bug)

Guy rage quit over someone resolve duplicating his bugs (when they were really duplicates) but he kept reopening them repeatedly so the other guy kept resolving them as such till he lost his mind on work chat. A few days later he is now casually sending an email (after being told to do so by management) to apologize but he skirted around apologizing and instead excuses himself by saying "we are all fellow autists to a certain extent."4

Once we got an urgent requirement to add double hashing the password in a web application. It had to go to the production ASAP. The developer which was working on it, added 2 alerts in Javascript to display entered password and encrypted password. Finally change was ready to deploy but in hurry she forgot to remove the alerts. In rush and excitement, that change was shipped to the production. The alert says 'your password is 123', 'your password is xyz'.
After some time got phone calls from users and manager. Manager said, 'how the hell our application got HACKED? If anything happens to..........'. To cut it short, he was furious. We knew exact reason and solution. Didn't take couple of minutes to resolve this issue.
But it was funny mistake and that released that days pressure off.2 -
Only around 700 lines of code and I finally have my first working Vulkan drawcall! Can't wait to integrate it into my engine for all the parallel rendering goodness (not to mention better architecture and asynchronous-ness)
One thing that's a bit weird about Vulkan is the way everything is very static and tightly linked together. You basically need a different renderpass for each stage of rendering (scene-hdr-no-aa, scene-hdr-msaa4, scene-hdr-smaa1, scence-shadow, post-bloom, post-resolve, etc.), a different pipeline object for each distinct pipeline configuration (!!) and both framebuffers and pipeline objects are only valid within the single renderpass they've been created for (roughly speaking)
Oh, and each time the window is resized you have to recreate *all* of these objects from scratch because they also depend on viewport size
No wonder `pipelineCache` is the first argument of `vkCreateGraphicsPipelines` lol

Customer complains that the deployed desktop app is slow at site x.
I check it out with users at site x, and indeed, it does have a delay when trying to connect to a share on a server.
Checks with users at site y and z, no issues.
After a bit of digging, the resolve of a DNS record is most likely the culprit.
Send the ticket to the customer network team to investigate.
Get it back after an hour.
"We have pinged the DNS name, and it responds fine, there must be a bug in the application".
Oh and also, I wrote this rant at work, in my head, with a lot more cursewords involed.3 -

I had once an sql error that took me two days to resolve it.
The error message was a syntax error but I was using an ORM to write my queries (doctrine with php) .I didn't have too much to debug as the code was pretty simple and clear so I got to the point that I convinced myself that this a bug and I'm gonna try to mess around it to avoid it.
Second day late night, something popped up in my mind '' hey what about those reserved words? Could it be the reason? '' aaaaand BINGO the key '' option '' is a fucking reserved word for mysql.
Tip : always check that list before writing your data models (specially if you're a noob like me)1 -

I upgraded a PC with an SSD and had to reinstall twice because windows thought it would be a good Idea just to use the boot partition of the old drive instead of creating a new one on the SSD.
I first noticed that something was weird because I could only delete the system and not the boot partition on the old drive using diskpart. I restarted the machine thinking it would help only for the bios to tell me there was no os on the ssd. I tried booting from the old hdd and sure enough, I landed on the desktop of the ssd install.
To resolve that I had to unplug the other drive, reinstall windows and only then I could boot normally.
60mins of my life wasted as I had just finished installing all the software...7 -

I'm a .NET dev since 13 years and EVERY FUCKING TIME STUPID IIS MOTHERFUCKER AND STUPID WINDOWS SERVER have a different problem setting up because of some permission.
You can't never get a site up in IIS without loosing time and patience having weird 400/500.x errors because every fucking machine have to set up some tweaky and hidden permissions.
I have 2 identical fucking win servers and deploying a .NET core applications and on one works (test server) and obviously, on the production server it gives troubles.
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT FUCK YOU I would take the IIS devs personally here and whip them to death until they don't resolve the fucking thing3 -
Trying to resolve merge conflicts and you cant remember which changes are the ones you want to keep. Lesson learned, make sure your pull requests dont sit waiting for weeks while master is happily being worked on.2

Kubernetes is a breeze they said. Now I‘m sitting here for several hours trying to find out why my pods randomly fail to resolve domain names.
Coming along my adventure: broken systemd configs, systemd-resolved stub causing loops, broken k3s modules and finding out that busybox‘s nslookup is broken for versions greater than v1.28.4.
50 issues later, I figured out that the dude who setup the corporate network (where the machine in question is located) uses two nameservers: one to resolve the internal routes and one for all the external domains. Luckily, coredns randomly picks a nameserver for each request. Therefore, sometimes queries for external domains reach the nameserver dedicated to the internal network which then answers with NXDOMAIN.

I work in a large organization that previously didn't have it's own development team. Therefore various business areas have built their own solutions to solve problems which mostly involve Access and Excel.
Many of these applications still exist and we are expected to resolve any issues with them and update them when necessary performing this support role while still expected to meet our (very tight) development timelines.
I can't tell you how much of a pain in the tits it is to be trying to power through a priority development only to be interrupted with an urgent instruction to fix a 17 year old Access database that's running slow.
Of course it's pissing running slow, it's 17 years old, has nearly a million records and you have multiple users accessing it across the country!! I think it's time to peacefully let it die.6 -

I work on a team project for a test and maintenance course in University. We agreed as a team to adopt a git infrastructure that would prioritize the stability of the master branch at all cost by only updating commits up to the next stable point and tagging every single release. We have a long polling development branch to prepare our releases and we create feature branches for the tickets we need to resolve. I even wrote documentation to make sure that we don't forget and protected the master branch on gitlab from direct modifications.
Can someone fucking tell me how one of my teammates managed to fuck over all of this and work on an unfinished feature straight on master?
N.b. I know that he probably edited straight from gitlab's online text editor because they have a big where they don't restrict modifications on protected branches.1 -

"Cannot resolve host", bull-fucking-shit, localhost is not resolvable, 127.0.0.1 is not resolvable.
Better enough, tried to run Dns.GetHostEntry (which failed from the stack trace) on same localhost and... It's working... Why it's not working on the fucking Npgsql, why it's not working in the lib.

Just started learning Docker. The thing that seemed complex a week ago has started to unwrap the wonders it holds. Hope to make it work to ease up some of the team's deployment headache. Reading a stackoverflow question about async functions and await-usage, and lot of well-intended answers show no understanding of the concept. Some fail to understand that the scope is about promises. They don't know that, yes, *every* async function *always* returns a Promise and that within an async function it's synctically the same to do either `return x` or `Promise.resolve(x)` or `return new Promise((resolve) => {resolve(x)}), and they fail to realize what await does or doesn't do and are oblivious about how awaiting at certain stages can have huge performance impact when compared to either Promise.all or Bluebird.map.
Grasping promises is hard in the beginning, I get that. But please don't share your lack of understanding as fact. -

So i work in support (do dev stuff in my own time). Spent 3 months seconded to another team supporting in project clients.
First issue i had in that team was a client with serious data issues which took about 30 hours +/- to diagnose and write some scripts to resolve.
After they went live and got handed over to support they had the same issue again but instead of support picking it up they sat on it till i came back on Monday.
Ive spent about another 10 hours or so picking through audit logs. I get all the shit no one else can either be bothered or capable of doing and to top it off i didnt get the promotion i was going for because i hadnt closed enough tickets, because they keep giving me all the shit to fix for everybody else -

This is the reason I will never be with IT: I recently got hired as an IT assistant at my college. I was in charge of solving issues in an entire building actually. I was so excited to be able to go around to resolve and troubleshoot problems with people's computers. The responsibility and pay were good, but the fact that people had next to no problems, but I had to be in the same room with students during virtual tests and lessons just in case. I had to stand in the same spot for 2.5 hours watching people take a test. Whenever they DID have a problem, they just had to refresh the page! People gotta learn that I don't have to be in the room in order for people to decide basic troubleshooting. Extremely boring and tiring. No challenges and barely any problem-solving. This is why I'm on Devrant and not Fixrant.3

To me, that's not a sign of devs using it as a crutch or being lazy etc, but rather a sign that devs are using it as a tool to resolve an issue they have not encountered yet. It's a sign that they are challenging themselves to find a good solution and not a hack, it's a sign they are learning, a sign they aren't just implementing the same project over and over again.

She called me 5 or 6 times and mailed me twice that amount, asking how long it would take to get back up. Each time I answered that I did not know, that it was my job to figure out what was wrong, and that solving a problem doesn't have a fixed duration.
What I thought was that the updates on her emotional state of regret were not helping me to resolve the issue and cost me time. Why do people inflate the price of things they are going to pay for by asking for what cannot be known?

I am a programming teacher in Colombia and the week's topic is very useful for me, thanks to all for writing your ideas, but in the other hand I think that some points have not been understood, for example in my college we use in the beginning of the course notepad so that the students learn the sintaxis and good practices and they no dependent of a especific tool or Ide (an advantage of this practice is that the student learn to use command tools easily). We want that que student learn programming and not a language or software . This because in our experience the students learn to use a tool but not to resolve a problem and this is bad in a long term.2

A reality that most people are not ready to accept, is that if you work too hard or work too smart as a freelancer, you're going to hurt yourself financially.
I have given my clients amazing code which runs fast, is optimised, and is readable to the point where you can hire a fresher to maintain it.
Doing that has resulted in stable systems but those clients walked away from me and have never come back, means no more money.
But some of the companies I have worked for, I have seen some retarded-ass devs barely able to make a system run and write code, have retained clients for years. They pretty much have a "submit ticket resolve ticket" kinda mechanism.
It's situations like these where it makes me question, what's the point of learning best practices if I'm gonna get hurt financially for it.5 -

so my friend and I are canvassing NLEs for our guys at the Post Production squad in our project (we were in charge in infrastructure). We looked at Premiere since it's kinda ok until we found Black Magic Design's Da Vinci Resolve.
First of all, I was suprised with the price. 299 for the Studio Version? Holy fuck, that's cheap as hell! Then there's a free as in free software version which has the core editing features with 1080p rendering. So we grabbed that and kinda suprised it requires postgres but as seeing Resolve having collab and render queues, it makes sense.
Installed them on the PCs the postprods gonna use, they were amazed. We literally saved 500 bucks for an NLE. When they asked how much is it. Our reply was:
"That's free".
and there was silence...
"And it's also 299 bucks for the cooler version".
And silence still ensued.
Guess our guys wasted alot of money on a pipeline that is cheap as hell but more jam-packed than any other NLE found in the market.

When every related field has a god damn different way of working with the data on hand..
For example:

I work on a small dev team. A team member recently left. My boss is lenient about committing our repos. ex co worker didn't commit his code and instead just left his code on a zip drive. Today I had to resolve nine months of conflicts and basically throw out all the work this guy had done.8

Last week, I didn't come up with something for this. Just now I experienced such a moment and remembered that there was a weekly rant on this topic.
The first bug report for my first ever project got resolved and the client commented with thanks and told to keep it up.
It feels awesome.

My version of the rubber duck is Outlook. I start writing a mail to the PM explaining an issue with the domain logic and how I see multiple ways to resolve it, but not sure which one is better.

Client (who hosts our programs on their website) sends an email there is an issue! Resolve is asap. - I drop a brick if my boss finds out about this he will kick off.
I look into it the best I can but there is no testing environment for their website so do the best I can on our environment. Every thing seems to be doing exactly what it should and can't reproduce. So I email client I can't reproduce and everything looks fine are you sure it's not at your end?
They email back I got someone at our end to look at it and he's sure it's your end. So I spend a rather long time looking into this and still find nothing so email back for more information and a video of them reproducing the issue.
They email back: umm sorry seems it was our side that was causing the issue, only noticed it when making the video.

Spent three days banging my head against my desk trying to get an AWS Lambda function to work, only to finally discover that my code was perfectly functional and it was a security group problem. It was supposed to send a POST request to a load balancer's URL but couldn't resolve the hostname because the security group blocked a necessary outbound port for DNS requests.
That's what I get for not troubleshooting at the infrastructure level when experiencing connection issues. I did not spend two years doing tech support just to forget basic troubleshooting steps now that I'm in the DevOps field...1 -
How do you guys get into open-source? It’s hacktoctoberfest and I am trying to contribute to ANY project. I searched a lot, the popular python libraries I use don’t really have many good-first-issue. Most issues are very very specific that the time I try to even understand it, the person who actually implemented will probably resolve the bug. Where to even begin? How will I know which project to contribute to? I have googled but never really got answer. Searched projects but most of them were dead.4

I have this system that receives an image on Base64 or the URL (in that case the system makes an HTTP request and saves re response to disk). It works beautiful when I run the tests, it doesn't work at all in production (all the resulting files are corrupted). I don't know how to start to debug it so I'm going to bed and let my future self to resolve the issue.4

Lost my changes twice now. First time was my own fault. Was in a hurry to pick up my son from daycare so I checked in my code and locked my computer before the code was actually checked in. So today when I took "Get latest" somehow my last code from yesterday vanished. So, I rewrote everything, but now there was some problem with service references, and building the solution failed. A colleague had a look into it, but he couldn't resolve the problem neither. Instead he accidentally made an undo changes on my code, so now my code is gone again. And the solution still doesn't build. I'm just a *leetle* frustrated right now :(3

One of my favorite parts of my job is that I’m not allowed to resolve firewall issues myself. IT ops frequently breaks my firewall config, preventing me from resolving any domain names or running dns queries in general even though I still have connectivity. So I call the support number. Remote Desktop icon appears in the corner of my screen.

“Have you tried using your browser, maybe they just block pings”
“Well no because I can ping 8.8.8.8, see?”

Third time this has happened. Every time they claim they didn’t change anything and it fixed itself. Obviously this is not the case, because after networking guys “don’t change anything” it starts working again. Every time they talk to me like I have the technical prowess of an HR rep. Like somehow I’m the only software engineer in the world that doesn’t know what the ping command does.
I’m not upset though. They’re just giving me a great excuse to be completely unproductive on a Monday -
I asked my boss if we could move the website to our version control. Reason is because he would make changes and break something and didn't know what he did and so he spends the entire day trying to fix the issue and of he can't figure it out he then asks our only web developer to resolve the issue.
He didn't understand how we could keep it in sync with what is published when he makes changes.
Had to explain to him that's it's only to track changes. He still didn't understand.

I've debugged today 4 h DNS...
One of the nodes - and the only node of 5 - didn't resolve one zone of many correctly.
It always tried to resolve via INet / Dot ...
So a _very_ special snowflake.
After going crazy... I decided to isolate the setup and increase verbosity for debugging.
It tourned out that the DNS server answered correctly - but was asked then again for a response by the defective node.
So I ripped out DNSSEC out from the DNS server, hoping the defective node would be fine with it.
Nope. It resolved then by itself via internet...
Well...
A lot of domain-insecure sprinkles later the defective node behaved correctly.
But why the fuck does _ONE_ single fucking stupid cunt machine decide to go rogue? Every node is equal....
It's just... Insane.
And reading the logs was insane too. -

200 searchable records (heavily searched and essential to the app) kept getting deleted from their index on our search engine.
we couldnt figure out why, but we wanted to resolve this quickly next time it happens so we got them back up, duplicated the index, and whenever we see they got deleted we resync them from the replica.
Eventually i found that there was a piece of code that updates the index by deleting everything from it and uploading everything back but it was buggy in doing the latter.3 -
All i wanted was a toolbaritem which i can hide depending on a propery in my viewmodel (xamarin forms). that shithead does not have a damn IsVisible property so i had to make some custom shit for this. Result is that my page does not load anymore. no fucking error visible in output window.

So there was this integrations team that are trying to connect to our api. This team has been throwing different people to work with us. We even taught them how to use postman/soapui with ssl, even to the point that we search stackoverflow to resolve their code-level issues and left us halfway, then came back again repeating all process. A year passed, they came back with the same issue... now all answer that they get from us was to “review past conversation”, Today, they insist that we repeat ssl onboarding process as they are having issues with their current one, we insisted not to do it, and told them we (including them) can proceed without changing the client ssl. And told them we had a snippet sent to resolve their issues, but instead told us in a rude way, our sample is wrong. I was challenged to prove that we can make it work by eod. With their wrong sense of pride as theyve been working for that issue for long, they started throwing tantrums on us, saying that we do not need to make them feel that they do not know what their doing. man! Cmon, its you who requested that snippet few years back, then you tell us you dont need it as it is not working, in the first place, it is not our job to code for you asses,...i left the channel after. it was escalated quickly to management and accounts team(those people who only cares for traffic/money).. asked to return to the channel, spoonfed the details to them, provided a working snippet and left again.not sure what happened next.,. I hope this started a fire on our management to handle such incompetence. -

Use alpine, they said. It'll be fun, they said. Spent ages trying to figure out what was wrong with my fresh Docker swarm. I tried everything, then I noticed that nginx was calling some random IPs instead of the web container's. Turns out the alpine image doesn't have a library that would properly resolve the IP of the container. I replaced it with the main nginx image and it's working perfectly 🙄

Turns out rbt land just squash your commit to your local master branch and they thus A have not pushed it to the remote. And the bunch of commit deleted activity were bitbucket not informing from which branch the activity was happening. Almost gave us heart attack. -

This cunt android studio, asshole. Every fucking day it would show me a pop up saying, "hey, update gradle", I always ignored it until today and that mofo has fucked up my project. Spent last 3 hours debugging as to why it is not able to resolve dependencies which were working fine earlier. And every time I click on "try again" it will resolve the dependency which it wasn't able to earlier but instead find a new one to fuck with and throw an error. Had to come back to old version resume my work FFS.2

I understand that to get a promotion or a level boost you should try to do duties far above your level to show you can do more.
But what if your manager deems that the expectation? What if they don't believe your work is really above your level, and find your lack of domain knowledge compared to someone who's worked for 4 years a restriction from getting promoted? And also what if you can't get involved on projects to increase the domain knowledge you specifically lack (we have a service we don't develop for but own and get pages and resolve incidents for it, and it's an ancient one without good docs).

Firebase api is good simple and alright but when you want to add it to your android project , you want TO KILL YOURSELF. OK first gradle works then say oh you should update your gradle you update it . then it says cannot resolve firebase:core WHaaaaT? OK YOU SEARCH FIREBASE API FOR AN ANSWER THERE IS NOTHING THERE. then stack overflow come to your help you should update some FUCKING package that firebase didnot mention you should update and all this time you say dns is wrong , firebase is filtered your country again, and after you update thise tow package you found out that you should update your android studio too for just one line code(firebase mentioned this but I said noooo it's just optional) .2

I wrote about Java sockets and networking a few weeks ago. As a follow up, how would you manage state in a scenario with a server and multiple clients? A few solutions I've thought of:
Making the client and the server share a common class that makes the both of them know what can and can not be done.
Having a "Message" class which will contain a static method for parsing a received payload and return a Message instance with intent and methods to resolve intent (i.e. sending data to the client).
Perhaps both concepts should be used, or perhaps none. I'd like to hear your ideas :)8 -
OK, so I've been working on processing a Japanese dictionary file and things are going smoothly for the most part. Out of ~185,000 entries, I've got 35 that are still causing problems.
The error I'm getting is "Incorrect string value '\xF0\xA4\xAD\xAF' for column...". I've checked all of my encoding and collation settings, and I'm pretty sure I've got it set to properly implement all of Unicode (as well as it does, anyway), as shown in the image attached. My suspicion is the problem characters are likely among the JIS X 0213 character set; in either case we're clearly dealing with a 4-byte character encoding issue here.
If needed I can attach a flag in the database and base64 encode these particular entries so the data isn't lost, but I'd like to just get it to handle the data properly in the first place if possible.
Anyone have any ideas on other items I can check to resolve the error?

I just finished typing a config file and ran into a problem with being able to save the file. I highlight the lines in vi yank them close vi re run it as sudo to see if that would resolve the issue with being unable to save read "E353: Nothing in register". Remember yank doesn't function like copy-paste on windows so it doesn't save to clip board.

Can the error types of my library depend on a custom library context object to be printable or otherwise meaningful? Pretty much everything else depends on this context, but until now the errors were an exception (no pun intended) because I wanted them to be printable by any handler that bumps into them, without scoping concerns. Now I tried removing them and like a third of my library has suddenly become context-free, because it only used the context to fully resolve everything before error reporting.1

It says RNReactNativeGetMusic files is undefined.
I tried console log NATIVEMODULES and it shows nothing as RNReactNativeGetMusic or anything similar.2 -

Resolve overlaps in repos downstream from current project. 1 overlap... Get in today, 7 overlaps downstream; including original. This means we can't deploy the code that a developer decided needed to be fixed; it didn't; and we have 1 week before go live and still need UAT validation, oh and QA needs to retest all the components due to the "required fix". What in the actual fuck?!

DevOps fucks up. I search and send them docs for reference, to resolve issue. DevOps brushes it off, fucks up even more. Eventually comes back to docs, reads it and fixes it.
Lost 4 good hours, for which I already had productive plans. DevOps is putting the responsibility of checking whether they're setting it up correctly or not, on me, a dev. I hate this! -
Is anyone familiar with google OAuth not working on webview issue and got any idea to resolve it?
I googled but it says the users will need to use the mobile browser in order to use Google OAuth.
And also tried to force open the link in chrome using js but it's not working. -
