I got my first job as a programmer... for a salary twice as big as we had at home for four people. I'm f***ing excited!
Wish me luck :)14 -
They asked for a web developer
Interviewer : can you fix this printer ?
Me: no
Interviewer : You're not for this job
Me: thanks God I'm not for that job1 -
Found a pretty cool company asking for job applications via POST request 😎
..almost incorrectly formatted my JSON 😅10 -
Oh yeah. Hey guys. 2 things.
First off. Forgot to say. Officially got a job. Finally. So thank you for all the help/advice and patience with my depressive rants!!
I'm in a new chapter of my life now so thanks.
And secondly.
I FUCKING HATE MY JOB6 -
That's it. I'm done. I'm out. Tired of a team and manager who refuse to make me feel like part of the team.
Officially started looking for a new job today.
🤞11 -
GUYS I GOT MY FIRST JOB, I'M SO FUCKING PROUD OF MYSELF (not a dev job, but I'm still in high school so anything's good enough for me)15
-
I had to settle for a tech support job to pay my study loans. But a week later I got my first developer job in a big and reputed firm which pays well. This is almost like a dream come true.5
-
Great day! Resigned my job, signed my new job AND the stickers arrived! Thanks a bunch for making my day even greater than it was :) @dfox3
-
Need job to get job experience..... Need job experience to get a job. Who the fuck designed this system.
Fuckinggggg Sadists
Arrrghhhh17 -
How do you make a job offer so that only real 1337 haxx0rs will apply? Well https://automattic.com/ has found a way I guess.4
-
I'm gonna have a job interview in my dream company tomorrow.
Agile, Java, an awesome atmosphere and much to learn.
I hope I will get that job.12 -
keeping up with the ridiculous job titles, WTF is an "iOS King"?
I would actually avoid applying for that job as I couldn't bare to call myself that, or have others10 -
Did anybody of you automate job hunting?
Like Webscraping online job offers, extract adress, keywords and put it into a cv template, set up personalised html-email and website.
Extra perk, a neural network which composes the cover letter.
that i would need.10 -
A friend offered me a new job in his company. Therefore I am going to quit my job. I like my current job, but the conditions are shit. Still I like my colleges and my clients. So I feel really bad for quiting.
The Job he offered me is pretty good, well paid and has many benefits for me. I like him and his company and are really excited to work with them. They are expecting big things of me and I'm scared to disappoint them.
Also I haven't told my boss about my plan to quit yet and because we become kind of friends in the time I work for her, it's an difficult talk for me.
😕3 -
After 5 years in retail, I finally got a job in the programming branch.
After two months of working with WordPress I finally got a website that isn't in WordPress!!
I'm so fucking pleased right now!!!6 -
Fuck all the companies that doesn't specify that they won't provide sponsorship for the applicant before job application.
I applied to this fucking piece of shit company that took me an hour. Created a custom cover letter and modified my CV just for them.
And they reply me with an email saying that they won't provide sponsorship and have rejected my application.
You motherfucker can refuse me in 5 minutes, but you piece of horseshit can't be bothered to write a simple point in your job description.
Fucking die in hell. Fuck you.1 -
Got 1 job offer and already watching a video about choosing between 2 job offers... Wtf is wrong with me :(1
-
lol. i applied for a job, and the human resource manager followed me on github. does this means i have gotten the job . lol2
-
Almost 2 months ago I left my job for another that paid slightly less.
Can't belive I am saying this but I love my new job.3 -
I have now an interview for a part time job as dev-allrounder beside my CS-studies.
I hope I get that job.. 🙏🏼6 -
I passed my exam (did well even), signed up to be a blood donor and landed a job interview all in one day. If all days could be like that.. Now to go look my coworkers in the eyes like I'm not getting ready to jump ship but I'm secretly so excited I can barely sit still 🤭😂
(yes I know a job interview doesn't equal I got the job already, thanks and calm the fuck down, dads 🙄 only an idiot would only have one other thing lined up. Plan C, D and E are on standby too)5 -
I can't wait to start my job so that I can finally start ranting about work-related things like everyone else3
-
I'm about to send a message to the supervisor that will terminate my job. I'm quitting my job. And that's... so exciting!
Wish me luck yo!7 -
I left a well paid job with a very good pension plan for an exciting startup job. Whats wrong with us developers ;)4
-
Got a job offer. Pays more than my current job (~13% increase) and allows me to commute. However, less freedoms. This is weird to me - the job is for a small firm (20 employees), and my current is huge (~25-30k). Now I can work from home when I need it, and flexible hours (aka, get in whenever I feel like it). New job had in contract "No remote working" and "Work hours are 0800-1600".
Think I'm gonna turn em down.. Fuck being locked down like that, honestly.15 -
I got a job offer today, and I think that finally, I've found a perfect job for me.
"Hi,
I'm looking for a Full *Stuck* Java Developer..." 😂3 -
As everyone were posting about their interview experiences. Now it's time to understand job requirements properly. 😂3
-
Short inspirational story :
Hundreds of mail sent
Sub : application for job
After 3 years
He got mails
Sub : application for job2 -
My productivity has become 2x or more lately not because I like my job, but because I hate it so much that I want to get rid of it as soon as possible. Every fucking element about this job can make me vomit.3
-
It's a week late notice but...
I got my first actual-real-paid-not start-up dev job!
And I have no one to celebrate it with... Toronto..?7 -
Just applied to a job with Microsoft with no professional dev history at all... I consider it a Turing test..3
-
What grinds my gears when it comes to job hunting: employers prefer job hunters to be currently employed, and yet job hunters have to hide the fact that they're job hunting from their current employers, like whuuut3
-
Looking for a job as a developer, any type of developer:
Requirements: all skills starting with letters A to M.
Nice to have: all skills starting with letters N to Z.
Well, thanks :/1 -
Got a great new job, great athmosphere here, great salary and exciting projects :) looking forward to the future here!11
-
Just started a new job! No rant material so far, I'm just grateful, i was out of work because of the 'rona4
-
I don't have a job because I don't have experience
I don't have experience because I don't have a job.
The perpetual problems of a newbie coderling3 -
After another unemployment w/ depression I need to find a job again. Some job ads keep posting pictures of whole crew wearing the same T-shirt holding a red cloth banner with some slogan of collectivism written on it. I believe those people only smile because it's a day off from work. Guess I'm not joining them anytime soon.4
-
Started new job, its big jump for me in my career. Very much excited. People are also very helpful.4
-
When you your first developer job... Time to find out whether it's imposter syndrome or if I'm just stupid.
-
I got a new job! 🎉
I'll be starting next month.
I had two offers. The first company tried to offer me less than expected, but I was able to negotiate. But after some more consideration, I accepted the second offer.
[I have some more stories from my job hunt that I'll post later.]3 -
First week is over at my first job in Web development. Really happy about the salary and the company, can't wait to Monday! 😁 though I don't have much time to my private projects, that sucks.3
-
Looking at job ads...
"CompanyX is a fun place to work, no downers, egos, pessimists or jerks allowed."
Welcome to the wonderful world of optimistic ego-less uppers!14 -
I created a rant a few weeks back, about a job i applied for and the HRM followed me on github. Guess what, I got the job finally :D :D :D1
-
I've just got a new job, and I'm SUPER NERVOUS...
it's everyone like that or just me ?!
It's a back-end JOB !!3 -
Why do people think it is weird to have job (programming) also be your hobby?!?
I get annoyed with this kind of people, if I like what I do, and have spent infinite amount of hours enjoying while learning, I think it is normal to have job as your hobby. Or even better phrasing, it is normal to have hobby as your job!!!4 -
I start my first ever job as a junior developer in about 3 hours...I'm nervous, excited, scared, terrified, petrified all at the same time.
Junior front end..Any tips?12 -
Job interview in an hour while depressed. And I‘m not ready for the thought of “lying” on how great I am if i don’t feel like it. It feels so wrong.11
-
The job market is lol
Graduated 9 months ago, working minimum wage jobs and applying to jobs, never getting an interview! I finally get a job in my field, and within my first week on the job I get calls for 4 interviews, all paying more than the job I took
On top of that my parents think my salary is way too low but beggars can't be choosers right4 -
Seriously what's wrong with the market right now, this is basically what some job ads said. They were even from the same company
Frontend job ad: are you a rainbow rockstar developer who just loves to code OwO(unpaid overtime) [buzzwords...]
Embedded systems job ad:
Serious job description
Required experience in c/c++
Other non bs stuff8 -
At my previous job when I was new, I asked my boss to let me use headphones while working, It'll increase my attention and productivity to work but he denied right away.2
-
Hey guys, thank you so much for your feedback. I just got a job offer and i'm super thrilled. Just can't believe it!3
-
!Rant
Got my first job last week as a junior gameplay programmer. Dream job 😁
Well, more like a dream position than the actual dream job.
Proprietary engine and a new language are kinda hard to wrap my head around, but I've been having so much fun that by the time 4 rolls around I usually don't notice it and stay for an hour or so more.
I love it!4 -
Would you all move your family to Seattle for a job at a software giant like Microsoft or Amazon?10

Job Application Rant #1
So, today I found a great job posting on Linkedin. I was excited and created a unique cover letter and my resume and applied. The job was in another country and I need EU work visa for the job.
The contact for the post was also founder of the company. I asked him, via Linkedin, that if they would sponsor the visa for me if everything went good.
He replied to me that " yes we do sponsor visas, but you have only 3 years of programming experience..."(three dots included). I was like wtf, did I miss important part of post about experience minimum limit or something. I would not like to be spam-applier, guy who applies without reading requirements etc.
I checked requirements again there is no minimum experience limit. Anyways, I thanked him for swift response but damn bruh, do not put unlockable requirements to job posts, so someone's dream would not be crushed.3 -
I feel like I am getting years older every day in this job..
Could someone help me find a mobile developer position (Android I prefer)..2 -
I start my first mid level dev job tomorrow after securing a job on a 10k pay increase. Feels good man,my junior days are over ^=^2
-
Took a job at a bank for the money. The job is super boring. So much bureaucracy. I don't know what I am doing here...9
-
I'm on my train, leaving after my last day of work. I didn't hate that job, quite the opposite actually, but Im sure the new job will give me more opportunities to grow professionally.
Now I'm just sad I'll miss all of the familiar faces, and all the usual things I was doing.
So many emotions and I don't even know where to start.
Oh and I'm drunk too.1 -
!dev I don't understand why in job ads they write: "Looking for 20 developers". What, are they raising a farm? LoL. Why so many developers.. especially if it's for a small company?5
-
Lately I stopped being angry at work, maybe because I am already in a “notice mindset”. Tomorrow after my job I have a meeting in another company and I should get an offer for another job. Leaving web development to do some C hardware development.
Otherwise tomorrow I will write the biggest rant ever or I will cry or maybe both.8 -
It's the day when I get to know the tension before a job confirmation call.
It's 7 am in morning . The call is at 10.00 clock.15 -
Job security:
- Create bugs purposely
- Discover the bugs after a while (if you discover it too quickly it will look suspicious)
- Fix the bug1 -
Going to start my job next month as a "developer". First ever job straight outta college, things not to do ?12
-
Some years ago I was on vacation with my wife. Everytime we were at the swimming pool, I worked on a really small side project. About 4 months later, I had an interview for my first Job as a developer. I showed them this project and got the job 😁1
-
!dev Job hunting is so exhausting. Nowadays it's not enough to have two degrees and some certificates. No, you have to 'prove' your worth by also showing really complex, enterprise-level projects you made on GitHub. Yes, why don't you make it more difficult to find a job. lol3
-
I currently have my dream job as a web developer, with a little above average salary, good colleagues and an understanding boss.
Today I had a recruiter contact me with a job opportunity (Senior developer) that would easily net me 1.5 times more salary, and a lot of other advantages.
It almost hurts to say no.4 -
In getting a remote job, go to a lot of online job boards. Filter their feed for remote work or work from anywhere. Get the RSS feed (if they don't have it, make one yourself), and add them to your RSS reader, like Feedly.
Do the following daily:
Go through the feed, study the job post ad, apply for the job as per their instructions. Archive those you don't have an interest in and those that you have applied. Repeat.
This also applies for hunting freelance contacts too.3 -
Finally left my job of an outsourcing company which doesn't evaluates employee's technical skills in their yearly review.2
-
Interviewer said that passing technical interview means that 90% of the time I will get the offer.
In the final interview with management, I can't answer some questions because I didn't study. Isn't final interview should just about getting to know each other like hobby, interest, talking about company products?
They gave me some puzzle to solve :(
After that, they wait another 1 week just to tell me I don't pass. Why the fuck they wait 1 week just to tell me that? They should just tell me 1 day after!
I still have other job openings right now, but the job searching has been very depressing.
I will give it like 1 more month. But if I can't get any leads, I will just give it up. Maybe tech is not the right job for me.
I will just go back to my old job in non-tech. It's not exactly my dream job, but at least they don't treat me like shit like this.9 -
!!rant
I just hate job ads which have a pseudo-language (Java or C for ex) code snippet inviting you for an interview.
Oh my God they are so fucking LAME. I actually pass on these job offers.1 -
I forgot how much effort job applications were. Like, just writing a cv is a lot of effort, then some companies want a cv and then answer some interview style questions too 🙄3
-
Just landed my first "real" software engineering job! Now let me venture the land of messy and convoluted codebase.2
-
so, i got a job in a company with 140 employees. they wanted me to work 9 hours a day, 30 min rest time and i had to pay for everything like lunch and even coffee. if i get to work late or leave work early they would punish me.
Oh god...6 -
Pleased to tell you all that after countless assessment centres and applications, I finally got a job for after graduation!6
-
How do you know when to quit working for a particular company?
When you quit your job, what are the things or factors that tell you that that's the right time to do it?
🤔3 -
How many job applications did you send to get your first full-time job?
My friend applied for 200 jobs before he got one. I am in my 30s now, but my motivation has almost run out.
The future seems bleak.16 -
what should i do, any ideas?
i'm a student and have a very good payed job (19h/week). Im stressed and have an ill feeling at work, not beacsuse of others but because i really Dont like the job and dont know if im good at it.
this feeling and the job is affecting my studies. I could take a job, at my university, which is muss less payed but really fun.
Do you have any advise guys?7 -
So just got hired to a job... But it seems like more of the same from my old job... Have an interview 2moro... Decisions decisions2
-
My first job, I was expecting to be part of Android team but assigned to php team, a little disappointed but I guess as a developer its not something new 😛.
Excited first day first job2 -
If you apply for a job advertising 35,000-45,000 and get offered 26,000 how would you handle it? If you meet the requirements and pass there test.15
-
I feel like Job Listings for programmers are just copied and pasted at random. "5+ years experience with C++" seems a little extreme for a company that makes landing pages and sends out email blasts.
-
I'm in this weird place where I want a job but also want to learn new languages so that I have better chances of getting a job. I also really like learning and figuring out new ways to develop things and seeing what's out there.
-
It's been 1 week since I started my first Job. Currently I am given task to do bug fixes on WordPress. In 1 week time I am already under extreme pressure. Today is Friday and I need to look at 3 different projects. Plus on top of this I am new to WordPress. I sometimes go home and continue the work to meet the strict deadline. God this is hard!!3
-
I read somewhere that you should change job each 3 or 4 years. I was wondering how often do you change job? 🤔6
-
Job rant.
There is something terribly wrong with job search portals. The portals are suppose to point me to jobs from companies. Instead staffing companies flood these portals and make them impure. So, when under job and apply essentially they take me to their own portal and ask me to sign up.
If your portal was good then I would have signed up.
I looked at job description and loved it. Then half way the form I realise this company is asking too many questions.. realised I am not apply for job but creating profile on some another portal.
Damn all of you for playing with a jobless engineer's feelings. -
New hire and haven't did anything other then look at the code base. How long did it take until you actually start contributing code at your first job?9
-
The most painful thing about job application rejection is the canned response. You would be left scratching your head as to why you were rejected.2
-
I'm living a daily drama with my own head lately. I was hired like two and a half months ago as a junior programmer and it is my first real job, in addition to 2 internships (the last one was in the advertising agency, and after a month I started to search a new job and warned my boss that I wanted to quit, because it was kind of a painful job and I was not happy at all because I was not working with programming).
The thing is that I do not know what they expected from me in this current job, and I still can not say. Am I being enough? Am I a disappointment? Everyone there is so experienced and good at what they do, and I was just used to being "the guy" where I studied that it was some sort of shock when I realized that I had to get way better even for a junior job. I do not feel productive as I wanted and sometimes I feel like I'm a total disaster and I'm not made to work with the only thing I could say "I'm made for this".
I might be overreacting this, but I just wanted to say this somewhere and I'm thankful I have devRant now. I could talk to my superiors or my boss about this, but I'm so used to get there and focus on my tasks that I'm always forgetting.3 -
Starting a new job tomorrow as a junior Java developer. Let's hope this works out better than my last job which was supposedly also as a java dev but involved zero code writing2
-
I gave my team 2 weeks notice last week. Now, every time something “stupid” happens, this is how I feel! I’ll be starting at my new job in a few weeks and couldn’t be more excited!
-
!Rant
After more than one year of searching for a dev job and finally working for some call center for one year cause I couldn't find any job who wanted to take me without any diploma, I finally got one as a php dev I'm happy but at the same time I stress cause I don't want to make any mistake and be fired. I'm starting Monday whish me good luck. I don't know if I'm more excited or more stressed I will know Monday.4 -
Advices looking for a job in Canada as a foreign?
I've been a software developer for 4 years now. I started in small company in Rome as jr developer where I'm now the CTO... I now feel stuck in this job cause the company makes a lot of money from the core product and there is no room for innovation.
I was looking for a drastic change in my life and career and Canada seems a good place to me.
So, any advices?9 -
Hey,
Any tips on how to apply for job, I apply to 10-15 new opportunities daily but haven't received positive response from 99% of them. I don't know what's wrong.
Currently, I am a cyber security analyst at a startup since February 2023.
My resume I use to apply for job

Being tempted by a job offer as an iOS dev that has full (paid) training. Not a fan of apple but heard swift is a nice language (assuming it is swift).
I've spent the last year and a half learning the react way as my first dev job, not sure whether it's beneficial to keep on this path or diversify. -
Is anyone else having a hard time finding another job after working as a full stack developer for a few years?4
-
When it comes to job hunt, i feel so bad.
Specially when i apply through angels.co
Like wait a second before you reject my CV or my application just talk to me.
Take a look on my projects, my will to do, my interest.
Damn i feel so desperate sometimes i feel like they are not real job vacancies just someone messing around.20 -
Job searches suck. No, I don't have random bits of Java trivia memorized with perfect recall for your shitty little quiz.
-
Just came across a job posting on Linkedin, which basically expects the applicant to be a sysadmin, front end and back end developer at the same time.
Almost contacted the job poster just to send a WTF.3 -
Job requirement:
> Have been on a career break for a minimum of 6 months
???
What kind of fuckery is this?3 -
Uh so I might be getting a job at a local coffee shop while I go through college. I’ve never had a job before so idk if I’m doing the right thing or if I’m rushing into it.5

I’ve 2 great job opportunities and would like to get some opinions from you guys..
The first position is in my home country, I’ve passed the first interviews and (highly advanced) coding test.
I’d have the possibility to contribute to something big that really matters nowadays.
I would learn about lots of stuff that really interests me (security, embedded systems...)
The second position is in another country, I’ve passed the first interview and just received the coding test.
There I could work on a cool project and I’d definitely learn a lot there, too. But more important is that I love the county, there I really feel like “home”, I love the people and culture.
In case both of them want me, it would be really Hard to make my decision..
What would you do in my situation?
- dream job in a country I don’t necessarily like, neither dislike
- cool job in a country I totally wanna settle down sooner or later (but currently wouldn’t have problems getting the permissions and stuff..)?
Thanks in advance:)1 -
- Applied for a job at campus interview
- Got selected (yay)
- Turns out it's a BPO service center
Another opportunity will come, till then I'll apply for the paid PHP Internship. -
Did an awesome interview for a fullstack job at a cool conpany. Hr, lead front and lead back seemed on a werge of kissing me. Told me they want to do a one-day trial and to wait for further instructions... Have been waiting for two weeks now :(1

Landed my first dev job today!!
Couldn't be more proud of myself and at the same time more terrified of what to come.2 -
I know the world doesn't owe me anything but why is it so fucking hard to get a job in this industry?? Unless you have a few years experience in a job behind you. Well if I can't get a fucking coding job in the first place how the fuck am I supposed to get work experience. The world is deluded fucked up place. Rant over!8
-
Semi-remote job, sometime i need to meet people to make sure im not work with bot. Want to remote job because i wany to avoid crazy traffic jam, flood, ugly road and crazy driver every day. But still got full of payment like other who have fulltime on office.6
-
!rant.
Just got my first on site job! Fucking tired of working remotely. Time to work without it getting boring/lonely.5 -
Not a bad job start, but disconcerting. First day at work, "The job we hired you for is no longer needed. We will find something for you to do." It worked out fine as time went by though.
-
I got a new job today! Back to a support role after being a university teacher and a contract trainer. I miss problem solving.
-
Not sure if it is the difference in the state of my mind or if it is the gradual reopening of the markets, but it's weird to me how a couple of months ago when I was looking for a job change, I could hardly find any good opportunities; but now that I am well entrenched in the current job I have, I keep getting random leads for decent job opportunities for the very profile I work in.1
-
From my job applications I have concluded that there is a large surplus of front-end developers and a serious lack of back-end ones.
-
Have you ever managed to land a job a d immediately realised: what have I done?!
I start an IT tech and web dev for. 100+ user company as the one and only IT guy. Immediate anxiety.3 -
How do you track your job applications? I mean in terms of the number of applications you’ve sent, which stage each application ended, etc4
-
I graduate college in December and I got my first fulltime job offer today! I've been working in my university's oit department for 3 semesters, lol most of rants are about that job. I guess a lot of my frustration stemmed from being capable but hitting a wall in the sort of things I worked on. I didnt feel like I was growing and had no avenues to express concerns/feedback towards the end. Plus the job was not one where they could give me a job after graduation, so I just felt unseen and discardable day to day.
But turns out this job worked out for me! There's an opening in a whole other division that does api development and data warehousing with Snowflake/Attacama and they want me specifically for it. If the benefits/pay ends up being decent, I'm leaning towards accepting it. -
What would you check or look out for before choosing between multiple offers for a new job in software development?
I have multiple offers from different companies for a dual bachelor's degree.2 -
Next week I start my first SWE job!
The company I interned at extended me the offer to continue after I obtained my BSc 😄 -
Has anyone ever had success with getting a job oversea from where they originally are from (not working remotely) and any tips on taking a chance to go that path?2
-
What would you choose as your job title if you could choose anything?
I started a new job and they have job title freedom policy :)
My official position is Senior Engenier/Tech Lead.11 -

Got a job interview on about 2 hours. I am starting to panic because I have done only 2 job interviews in USA.
It is for a big corporation and I will conduct interview with 5 people... in .NET framework which I have not used for 1 year.
And I am terrible at remembering things and I am starting to panic so bad.6 -
Would you still do your current job even if you had all the money in the world to not work again?14
-
I got my last job (current job) exactly 3 years 3 days back. That was 2nd interview of my life with 2 days of interview process having 1 round. Then I was hired as 1st developer of the startup.
Funny thing is that 1 month before I got this job, one person approched me to develop an internal system for his company, but cancelled the deal once he knew I hadn't worked anywhere. -
Not really a rant. But I got 4/4 errors fixed using xunit(which I have never used before) during a take home assessment for a job. I’m hoping I get my first jr. developer job! Wish me luck1

TL;DR: For remote job what are the things should check with employer.
I'm looking for job opportunity in India or outside. i noticed lot of remote job openings. While joining or attend interview to remote job, what are key things should I confirm with employer.
Thanks. -
Hello devrant, I have a question:
What can you tell me about cybersecurity? is it worthwhile? I mean, could I get a nice job with it? Where should I begin to start learning about it?10 -

Follow up rant of my previous rant about the job interview I had.
I did it. Today I finally got an offer from them. So happy right now.
I just can't wait to have in the resignation for my current job.1 -
I spent half an hour writting all my studies down in a job looking site in order to apply for a job (apparently, a CV isn't enough), and when finally everything is done, apparently you need to PAY for premium in order to apply for certain jobs in that site? Are they actually serious?2

Not a rant/!rant
Got a new job, already learning a lot and nice and helpful colleagues. 😄 Except I find it really hard to get used to their codebase because it's huge! How long does it take for some of you to get used to the new code base of your new job?3 -
I'm still a student, I'm attending my second year of university. Today I got what I could call a job offer. But tbh I'm not sure about that. The company that should hire me doesn't exist yet and I will work as a part-time employee until I finish the university. Idk I feel like I'm not suited for the job (I will work as Web Dev), like I'm not good enough even for a job that still doesn't exist. Yeah I'm shit2

Gotta question about the job market,
I'm having a very tough time getting a job, still jobless from when I quit my job awhile back, anyway all the jobs I look up that contain the words software/android/app/java developer seem to include web development skills.
Something of which I don't know much of, I wouldn't mind learning sure but for things like android development I can use Java just fine to create apps, yet the moment I start reading they want developers that know react.
Is this a normal thing? I can get to learning new languages and all but it'd be sad if my skills in Java for both software and app development are never used once I join that company.
Forgot to add this is for New Zealand job market, not sure it's normal for other countries.3 -
I once got hired as a DevOps Engineer in a helpdesk position. Needles to say I didn't succeed in this job.1
-
I love development. Now my job does not allow me to do it anymore. I need a new job. Unfortunately there is no other job where I live. Someone looking for a mobile developer / c #? Italy or Europe. 😥1

Hey guys how do you feel if someone interviews you for a developer job and then offers you a sales/marketing job based on your past work experience? I was very disappointed when he told me that btw, i told him i dont like that field, i love to code.2

So looks like I got a job in a tech company. I won't be coding much but I guess I'd be debugging the errors and reporting them to devs.
I think I'll like this job:
1) Pay is better than I expected considering my long gap in the industry as an employee. Honestly, I don't care about the pay.
2) I like the challenge in debugging things.
3) I don't like coding under pressure and deadlines. Besides, I want to reserve my desire for coding on my side projects - mostly solutions to issues I face. If I go for a developer job, the last thing I would wanna do is
code again after the work. I'd probably go insane with such a life.
4) Recently I realised that I'm not that much of a coding geek as people around me make it seem. I had attended a hackthon and almost every single dev out there had their laptop covered in stickers. They also had grasp on diverse stacks meanwhile I'm quite picky on stacks I even care to read about.
5) I'd have to be a bit more outgoing and interactive with people than my usual self. So yeah, I'll be pushing my comfort zone.
6) Most importantly, this job aligns with the dream job with great pay and freedom that I'm eyeing for. -
Should I include that I am still working in my current Company in my resume while applying for a new job?
Hello, I am currently applying for jobs to other Companies, because I am starting to feel uncomfortable with my current job, and I was wondering whether it is important to indicate my current job and role, stating that I still work there, or whether I should completely take it out or indicate that I stopped working in the Company.
What do you suggest from experience?4 -
!dev I knew this was true but I'll say it again because I recently was met with this situation again:
Rule: If the interviewer says at the end of your first interview: "We'll see", you didn't get the job.
I'm starting to think that getting a job these days is a rarity..2 -
So today i got asked at a job proposal what were checked and unchecked exceptions, I got the job, but is that a normal question?3

There are alot of questions in the job industry I'm not aware of. job gaps, lying, job hopping, hr and little details I didn't even notice.
I have a job gap for 2 months.(Nov and December) and planning to land a job on January.
For 2 weeks, I got burned out and need to recover my motivation to move on because my employer told me the job industry of not being honest, but being a dick and slave is what it gets to keep the job.
This December, I'm just going to do my side projects and little coding challenge(not the fizzbuzz). I don't plan to create short term side projects. I have to keep on practicing.
I'll be a slave in January. But I don't want to work 48 hours a week.1 -
what is a Go Engineer? I hope it means a golang engineer? I can't find a job description for it. cause I love Go and I want this as a job.....Hopefully1

How much of a job gap would become an issue in India when job hunting? Any advice greatly appreciated.4

Just wanted to say, that I saw around 3 job announces, in the past month, in my town. Why nobody likes C++ here? You can do anything with it and it's native cross-platforme. I just moved into my new apartment, let me stay here a little and give me a job T_T4

Is it ok to post job opportunities on here?
Not sure if I want to work with a fellow devranter as I won't be able to rant about you 😐6 -
So I may be getting a great job offer by the end of this week. The best thing is that it's a remote company since start and they have proper documentation and processes.
The current company has no idea that I am planning to leave. And they are planning some things around me for this month.
Should I hint that I have a job offer hovering around. I don't see anything bad about mentioning that.
1) Even if I don't get the new job, current company might offer to increase salary and accept my demands.
2) I will be able to get out of current job as soon as possible when I get the new job. I don't intend to complete next September at current company.
Any thoughts? Is it wise to mention about leaving before I have confirmation of new job?7 -
As developer which one do you prefer?
Your favorite job with normal salary or a disappointing job with good salary?
What's your main factor in choosing your work?4 -
How to write a great resume and Linkedin when im playing 3 roles at my current job?
Iwear many hats right now on my Job (you can check my LinkedIn, the link is on my devRant profile).
Right now im looking forward change job in 3 months or so, mostly due to non flexible working hours and somewhat toxic environment.
The problem im facing right now, id how to put all the stuff im doing right now in my profile without it sounding crazy or something like that.
I also see companies open positions for very specific roles, so i dont know how write a resume to apply to a job without excluding half of my skills from it to looks "specialized".
Other factor is that i really have fun doing diverse things on my Job, it is boring for me do a single thing for months.
How can i include everything i know in my resume? or what job title can resume all my expertise?
Thanks guys!
PD: If you are in an small startup, and trive working with people that wear many hats, contact me on LinkedIn! i can consider your offer1 -
Something funny. Has anyone heard of a case or a city, where people looking for a part-time job are in bigger numbers than those who are looking for a full-time job?
The competition is stiff.
Disclaimer, am a student. -
Help!
Anyone familiar with the culture/environment over at NCR?
I have a job offer from them but am a little worried because I have worked mainly in smaller startups my whole career.
Am I going to end up wanting to kill myself after 6 months if I take this job? -
London people, what are some interesting job fairs here for an enthusiastic graduate React dev with a bit of experience? More broadly, how might I go about finding a job here?1

I'm a complete noob in this tech world so finding a job it's getting hard (for me).
I applyed to be a highschool teacher so they made me some tests and apparently i'm too narcissistic for the job, although they recommended me to try tech related stuff.
Soooo... Did i hurt your feelings, because teaching wasn't my first choice?
Still looking for a job. -
Errrm, so in my first rant, I said that I was trying to get a remote job paying at least 30k/y. It turns out I'm currently in the middle of a selection process to a 45k/y job.
I already made the first interview and two tests ( 2 quizzes at Coderbyte), and this Saturday I'm doing the last test ( a small node.js project).
But holy shit I was so bad at the second test, it was only four questions (their difficulty in coderByte was "hard" ), and I had two hours to answer them, but, I could only do two of them and with a garbage score.
Do you guys think I still have a chance to get the job if I do a good job in the final project?
PS: The first interview was pretty nice and i got a positive feedback, also in the first test I scored 100%1
