I am a Software Engg. Student at my college, and I am a scholar, I stand 1st rank in my department for my academics. Our college expects us to do an internship this semester break, and I am stuck. The college expects us to do an internship for a period of around 6 weeks from a company with a CMM level 3. The real pain is the fact that the college didn't prepare us with the right skill set to get an internship like that. And in the end all our college wants is a certificate to show to them that I have done an internship.

My problem is, the people who don't have the slighest skill to do an internship are getting certificates because they have contacts, and they have no intentions to learn anything. But, here I am, although I believe I don't have that good skill set either, but I am stuck with no contacts, no internship offers, and no responses from the company I have applied to. Don't know what I am gonna do, but I have a zeal to do perform well, let's hope I find an opportunity to exhibit my talents.

As it turns out I'm an unlucky beginner in the industry who's stuck with a wrong, legacy code project. Doesn't mean I don't know anything and I can't learn new stuff. They were not judging capabilities, just judging people by the project they're working on in their current firm.

I went to PyOhio, a conference for python in Ohio. I had an amazing time. I’ve never been to a programming event before and it was a revelation. I met and befriended so many amazing, kind, and intelligent people. The talks were amazing, and it was such a great opportunity. I was even guided through my first open source contribution. I have an opportunity to get JetBrains Resharper for VS, paid for by my employer. We also use a variety of other tools, so wondering if it is worth the time/investment?

I got 2 internship opportunity and I don't know which one should I choose. One is 20 minutes from my home and is at my university, but the benefits are not that good. The other one is about 1 hour and a half from my house and the benefits is so much better. What should I do?

There are no meetings at the company I work for. GASP!!!
Well...we have one, now and again, but it is just an opportunity for the boss to update the support team with changes to the product and we (i.e. the software engineers) come for the free pizza. GASP!!! I would prefer that we have technical meetings, but it falls on deaf ears.

Turned down again. And I thought I had this job opportunity on lock. I’m thinking of just getting out of this field and doing a trade. They make a fuck ton of money and are always in demand.

I have two great job offers, and though my gut feeling is telling me to go one way due to tech stack and first communications, the other opportunity is (slightly) better paid and the company is much larger and nationwide active.

Ah, the conundrum when a recruiter emails with a genuinely well-matched and reasonable sounding opportunity (which I often look into), but starts with:

Dear {firstname},

...which of course I aim never to reply to, for the same reason I wouldn't expect them to read a covering letter that said "dear {company}".

Life is funny, I spend years ranting about WordPress and Mac computers, while being a full stack developer, then I got the opportunity to study music abroad, two months into the semester I get offered a scholarship to work with a Mac managing WordPress sites.

I have an interview for a Mobile Dev Trainee position with me classmates. I'm a web guy. I have no idea what has been going on with mobile dev while I was away. But this is opportunity. Halp! What to do to not screw it up? I understand the concept of making API calls somehow. Maybe, that would halp?

I would really like an opportunity to study and interact with ravens and crows in more detail !

I’ve 2 great job opportunities and would like to get some opinions from you guys..

The first position is in my home country, I’ve passed the first interviews and (highly advanced) coding test.
I’d have the possibility to contribute to something big that really matters nowadays.
I would learn about lots of stuff that really interests me (security, embedded systems...)

The second position is in another country, I’ve passed the first interview and just received the coding test.
There I could work on a cool project and I’d definitely learn a lot there, too. But more important is that I love the county, there I really feel like “home”, I love the people and culture.

In case both of them want me, it would be really Hard to make my decision..

What would you do in my situation?
- dream job in a country I don’t necessarily like, neither dislike
- cool job in a country I totally wanna settle down sooner or later (but currently wouldn’t have problems getting the permissions and stuff..)?

Time to face the truth.

I'm being moved from one team to another. Which is great.

But the reason I'm being moved is to take over for another dev. So that dev can get a promotion. So basically I'm getting a promotion, without the pay raise.

I can't fight this either.

So I'll take this as an opportunity to get all the experience. Also begin looking around.

Another opportunity will come, till then I'll apply for the paid PHP Internship.

I right now work as a Remote Front end dev and I must admit is pretty sweet and flexible, however, I think my ideal job would be in a foreign country (Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong) with the same remote flexibility but with a Visa sponsorship, Working on modern web projects, progressive web apps etc. learning from others and improving my code. please let me know of any opportunity haha.

Need Advice....
So, I moved to Bangalore after graduation this year and I am interning at a startup till Jan in Android Development. It's a six month internship. Everybody I meet gets surprised after hearing that I took up the internship even after graduation and that it's 6 months long.
I actually interviewed at a couple of places before accepting this internship and all those startups were like the next Facebook, the next Instagram, the next blah...Blah...Nothing new...And this opportunity felt like something where I would learn something new...
But as I meet people every now and then and as the financial ground below me keeps on shrinking, I keep on questioning my desicion.
BTW I am searching for good job opportunities but again can't find any exciting opportunity and the ones I find don't even give an opportunity for the interview...

My countries {South Africa} new favourite thing, you get a mail from a reqcruiter stating they have an opportunity for you and want you to forward your CV in Word format.

Dunno about you countries, but in mine 'word' is code for 'make it easier for use to fuck it up with the template we stole from the dogs shit after it ate its owners homework'.

So I rpelied ot one of them simply asking if I should not first be interestd in the position before them requesting my CV.

They basically typed out a longer version of the original mail, I still do not know what this great opportunity is that they want my CV for and not replying again. lol
