So I wanted to send an email to Microsoft to request a feature in their new "To-Do" app.
I went to the play store and scrolled down to the end where it says "Send an email to developer".
Clicked on that. And here is the email address:
"noreply@microsoft.com"

Client :- The app is slow on my device, please fix.
Developer :- Working fine on all the devices I tested, are you sure?
Client :- Yes, it's very slow. I can't accept this app.
Developer :- (Recompiles the same codebase again) Here, try this, optimized a lot of calls, took me entire day to do so.
Client :- Yes, it is working fast now
Developer :- (evil laughs)11 -
"Oh you're a developer?"
"Yes."
"Hey I've got this awesome app idea. You build it all and you can get 10% of the profits?"20 -
This is not a rant, but I just wanted to share some good news! My brother and I have launched an app called Programmer’s Music. It contains our favourite music tracks and tracks suggested by some of our developer/creative colleagues. It’s for listening to music while coding. We have also integrated Pomodoro time management method in it. It’s ad-free and FREE. :) Please check out the app at https://promusic.tech/2mJrw8A. Feel free to leave an honest feedback.
Please feel free to leave us a message with your favourite tracks and we will add them. Please share it, follow on Twitter and/or like our Facebook page. Thank you so much!
Thank you, everyone.

Boss: "Here's our new intern! He's a bloody genius doing apps! Perfect for that important project that shouldn't be trusted to an intern!!"
*takes intern 9 weeks to do a login view without any real backend*
Turns out the guy couldn't do shit but steal others code and change background color.
Boss: "He wasn't very good..."
Me: "You interview him. How about you bring a developer to the interview next time..."
Boss: "Doesn't matter. The app needs to be done the day after tomorrow, good luck"
Me: "............"
*puts on coffee, cries, programs the app in miserable silence*11 -
So I'm searching for jobs and found one wanting an app developer, but on the website it says this:
"Be up to date with IOS and Play Store Coding language"
So with that in mind anyone know where I can learn Play store coding language?
Lol what a fucking joke...12 -
Guy: you said you were a software developer right?
Me: Yes
Guy: Do you know how to reset my phone?
Me: You do know a reset will wipe out all contacts.
Guy: Yes
Me: What phone do you have?
Guy: iphone
Me: (looks it up on google and shows him it)
Guy: is that a special app?
Me: its google
Guy: oh
I swear this was tuesday night and i was the one out of us that was drinking11 -
I never wanted to be any sort of developer. I was studying graphic design. I partnered with a friend to create an app. He would code and I'd make things pretty. He flaked, and I picked up programming. That's my story.4
-
- We need an android app. Can you do this?
+ Never done that, but I can try.
- Do you even know Java?
+ Not really, but I'll learn fast!
- Any OOP experience?
+ Well...I know CPP.
- 😐
- Will you give me a prototype tonight?
+ Don't know. How about tomorrow?
- Ok.
...
+ *makes a prototype in couple of hours, becomes a Java developer*
Just like that.8 -
Act I
Me (Lead Developer), Boss (Head of IT), CEO
> enter stage left CEO
CEO > "Alright Boss, give it to me straight. Are we going to be able to release app x by this date?"
Boss > "Yup we'll have a beta release on that date"
> exit stage right CEO
Me > types long email to Boss outlining exactly why we won't be able to release app x anywhere near that date, beta or otherwise, because:
1. We have a development team of 2
2. I've never developed an iOS app before
3. Developer 2 is still trying to understand git, because
3a. Developer 2 isn't even a developer (but he's doing iOS front-end so w/e)
4. We don't have the required database systems in place
5. Or CRM
6. Or CPQ
7. We'll need to conduct a security audit
Boss > "yeah, but CEO is gonna need to hear that date a few more times before he can fully understand"
Me > *internally screaming BUT YOU HAVEN'T TOLD HIM THAT AT ALL*
"ok cool just glad we're on the same page on that one"5 -

I had to stop developing hybrid android applications with Ionic and start developing native.. I was given 1 week to present an app or they would hire an external developer.. I knew nothing about Java or Android development and in 4 days I already have a working, hardware scanner integrated, API calling, camera picture taking,.. Application! My brain hurts and I'm feeling like a zombie, but hey.. I'm proud of myself! :D15 -
Friend: Do you think you could make an app that does X?
Me: Yes but I'm not an app developer so haven't had much experience with app design so might take a while
Also friend: What sort of programmer are you? It's basic shit
My friends don't seem to understand that the programming loop for game development (Mostly background asset management) and app development is like trying to ask why a bull and a bull frog won't breed...Yes they both have bull in the name but they are 2 fucking different cunting things...8 -
Worst meeting?
A tech review where a senior developer presented my code and slightly modified ui as his own.
Only things he changed were the button colors and title of the app. When he switched to the code, my comments were still there.
It was the worst meeting because my boss said, in all seriousness, "It looks great!" 😦6 -
Sometimes I feel I'm an app developer, a web developer, a sysadmin, an ethical hacker and a programmer who's comfortable in several languages. At other times, I feel like I just know how to use the internet.5
-
Designer (to the client): Yes it'll be exactly like this mock up after I hand it over to the iOS developer.
Client: Awesome! Looking forward to it.
* Designer goes to developer *
Designer (to developer): Hey these are the new designs for the app, let me know if you have any questions, ok?
Developer: Cool.
* 1 minute later *
* developer goes to designer *
Developer (to designer): How should error messages or notifications look like?
Designer: Oh we should just email those because it won't look good.
Developer: The fuck? And are you going to design this email service too?2 -
Recruiter: hi, I have an iOS Developer role. Would you be interested?
Me: sure, send me on the spec.
Recruiter: ok great so for this Full stack app developer role we are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years embedded C/C++ experience
- 5+ years of working with Windows and Linux
- Native Android development
- As well as Native iOS experience
Interested?
Me: ......... ok buddy, you and me are going to have a little chat about what “iOS Developer” means17 -
Client: There’s a bug in the app
Developer: How do I reproduce it?
Client: I don’t want it reproduced, I want it fixed!

This programmer right here just turned 18. Maybe now I can get that Apple developer ID and get that app I've been working on for over a year onto the App Store.
And on a side note... let the Facebook comments pour in...17 -
So I went out to a country bar with some friends to dance... and my friend told some random dude I was a developer for some reason and he approached me with his grand idea for an app...😂4

User:
I wish I could build an app like XYZ that is so cool.🥺🥺
XYZ Developer:
I wish I could build an SDK like Agora.io that is so cool.😣😣
Developer at Agora.io:
I wish I could build CDN like Akamai. That is so cool.🤔🤔
Developer at Akamai:
I wish I could have layed Internet as a concept. That is so cool.😢
Conclusion: Don't disparage yourself as a Developer. Sometimes, we should Appreciate what we have build rather than what we wish to build.
Be proud of the Product "X" you are building.
Just look around, you will find a person wishing to build a product like "X".🤗

Just met my old friend a few minutes ago and he asked me, "what work you do?"
Me > Well you already know, I'm a developer.
He > Oh, so you make mobile apps and websites?
Me > Well kinda yea but I work on websites mostly, will build my mobile app later someday.
He > Yea, you have something called web2,web3 and RSS FEED and you know anyone can do coding and developer stuff, only hard thing is to get a good idea.
(that was exactly his sentence)
Me > ......................... (in my head)5 -
Everyday, my developer friend keep complaining and talking our manager bad words behind him. So i introduced devRant to him.
Him: what is this?
Me: An app specially designed for developers for sharing their programming life.
Him: *after installed* , how can i add ur account?
Me: you cant add me, bcx everyone don't know each other here. *walk away and continue do coding*
After few days, i realized he always staring at his phone, guess what? Lol3 -

Once a recruiter called me
Recruiter: Hi, We are looking for an Android developer with n+ years of experience
Me: Umm ok. Actually I am not a full fledged native Android developer, but I can work on hybrid platform where we can create an App for Android using Web Technologies like html and javascript
Recruiter : ohh I will talk to our tech team and get back to you
Me: Sure. Thank you
-Next day-
Recruiter : so you can create an Android application right
Me: yes but using web technologies not JAVA

Me: ok cool. Thanks
-Interview day-
Interviewer : so lets start with the technical round, tell me what are Fragments

[Senior developer] * drops on the floor in an attempt to hide his laughter *2 -
"Hello App developer.
We're looking for android app developer who can develop simple app for individual political campaign vote for me.

What could possibly go wrong with that?!25 -
I am developer.
Discussing the design of our App, he asked me whether I have used tinder. I replied, "No, never had to..."
He laughed out hard and also told his colleague this joke.
I am a developer.
But... I am also a gamer, not a player 😎
I dont need tinder, I have Counter-Strike.8 -

As an Android developer i keep on looking at every single app as if am going to write it again as code3

Senior manager: I cant understand how this project has taken so long?
Me: Well you hired me as a C# WPF developer and then asked me to deliver an android app without any kind of training so i had to teach myself app development and reverse engineer the undocumented protocol it needs to use to communicate with our product.
Senior manager: Ok. I get that, but it should only take around 3 months to get up to speed though right?
Me (to myself): how in the hell? New platform, self teaching, undocumented protocol for a complex low level real-time system, other responsibilities taking at least 50% of my time and i should be as productive as an outsourced app dev company in 3 months???!! FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!3 -
When your primary Android app (with over 1/2 million total downloads) gets banned...
And all the email says is read these [links to] policies!
Back story: this happened to me back in 2011, no matter what I did there was no way to get in touch with a human at Google, I sure hope this process has gotten better! Having my app suspended with no way to fix and get it back is ridiculous!! This could ruin a business.
Over two years later, on a Google+ hangout with Google Android devs out of the Google London office, I said to them how silly it is that this happened....one of them asked me for the app ID, I provided, he looked it up in a system which then had a reference code which then related to SEO violation....wow I finally found the answer, how silly that an SEO violation (too many keywords in the app description) can get your app permanently suspended. What a shame. I wouldn't wish this on any solo developer trying to self learn and make something...
Sometimes I really just have to say "Fuck you, Google" out loud a few times.9 -

Just saw on LinkedIn the following:
One of my connections is an iOS developer and someone asked him to do a mobile app for iPhone, my connection replied that the final price is $200 (yes two hundred dollars)
Client reply was:
You are going directly to hell for that expensive price! Deal is off!
Me:8 -
I honestly do not understand why clients, with no understand of development at all, think they know more than the developer.
I do not understand why these people think they know what can and cannot be done within a given timeline.
If it's so damn easy, why aren't you making the damn website/app yourself????

Yes! you made a difference.[image]
P.S.
started working at a startup as an intern(android app developer), Most of my work is like debugging the code, new feature implementations.
And the codebase is full of this kind of shit(even worse) plus literally zero documentation(not even for API's), not even a single line of comment in complete project(40K-50K), not any unit test/ UI test.
The funniest thing is when I ask for documentation he(boss | *) said: I am documentation.8 -
I just developed full iOS app without previous knowledge on iOS.
Am I a good developer, or a good Googler ?9 -
Meet 'SBI Online' app from Play Store, in their own words:
What they were supposed to do?
"Experience the new Retail Internet Banking of SBI"
What they do?
"SBI online app will redirect to SBI Retail Internet Banking (online SBI) site"
Why do they have app?
"No need to remember URL",
"Less memory space required on device"
App storage space?
F**king 2.6 MB, just to redirect users to their website, in third-party browser.2 -
Who else agrees that the play store should have a section which tells if an app needs a mandatory login to use it ? Like why the hell does a simple offline planner todo app need you to sign-up if you don't wanna use cloud backup. Jeez the user just trusted you by spending valuable time and bandwidth downloading your app. You owe it to him to show him some features of the app before shoving a sign up in his face. As an app developer myself I really think that this kind of behaviour turns off more users than anything else.2
-
When your client insists on uploading everything to the App Store themselves because they don’t want to give you access to their developer account. So they go BUY a BRAND NEW MacBook Pro just for xcode because they can’t figure out provisioning files. Project has been ready for submission to the App Store for over a month...5
-
I got a callback for mobile app development, I told them I had only worked in Android. When I got to the actual interview, "ok, your Resume and all is fine and all, but we are actually looking for an iOS developer" I stood up and walked out. I mean what in the name of holy fucking hell were you thinking you miserable son of a bitch.3

You know what does my fucking head in?
Designers or developers who shit on Twitter bootstrap because of something to do with how it looks.
Bootstrap is a framework. Not a theme.
If I can look at your site and tell, just by looking, that you’ve used bootstrap, then you’re a lazy developer / designer.
A site / app should look like how it was designed by the designer (even if that’s you). It SHOULDN’T look like the default version of the css framework you’ve used.6 -
After 8 iTunes Testflight Beta approvals for my app ... better still, I got hte app approved for the App Store a week ago to "de-risk" our "final submission" ... That's 9 approvals for my app, and we're ready to submit version 1.0.0 and actually release on the store. We take last week approved app and "developer reject" if to make room for the final tweaked version (minor tweaks, minor bugfixes). Submit version 1.0.0., plenty of time before it needs to be released.
But, what's this? "Meta Data rejected" for v1.0.0 because some piece of shit at Apple wants to watch a video of the app working with our hardware. What about the previous 9 approvals with the demo account connected to the demo hardware?
So we send a video within 1 hour of their unexpected request about the very foundational fucntionality of our app. That was 24 hours ago and these fucking assholes haven't even responded, no sign of when they will trouble themselves to respond. Pure limbo.
All the work up to this point was to "de-risk" their infamously shitty review process and all of it was in vain because it's somehow brand new information that our app works with our hardware.
Holy fuck, what a bunch of power-tripping assholes. All I can do is pace around and review the previous 2 months in my head to figure out what I could have done better. But I could not possibly have expected that after all the Testflight Beta approvals and after the recent App Store approval, that they would suddenly doubt that our software actually works with our hardware!!!!!
FUCK YOU APPLE!!!! FUCK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!!!2 -
Hey so this is more of an Android advice post rather than a rant
So it's to do with the app I'm working on, I want to make sure that the app images are working on different size screens and I was wondering if using the developer option for changing dpi a feasible option in terms of testing, so far I've tested for xxhdpi and xxxhdpi, and just now tested for xhdpi and so far so good.
But I can't seem to test for any smaller screens (240dpi and below)
Just thought I'd ask you guys because this is the best community ever!12 -
Hey guys!
Just joined devRant! Can't wait to get more involved!
Bored in the lockdown, I built an app which lets you chat with people around you.
Its called Cyrcl!
Built in over ~40 days, I was the sole developer.
Here is the tech stack - React native for the android and ios apps, mongodb and redis for the database, nodejs for the server and aws ec2 for the hosting!
I'd love to get some feedback, or discuss some of the hacks!

Putting chatgpt to some good use. Writing a complaint mail to the idiots maintaining my banking app in the style of shakespare.
Hark thee, App Support Team,
With grave disquiet and vexation doth I write to thee concerning thy recent update of the application. As a software developer, the option to enable developer settings on mine own mobile device is of paramount importance for mine work. Yet thy latest update hath impeded mine access to mine own bank account until I disable this setting. Upon launching the app, it doth redirect me to a browser tab, where I am compelled to deactivate the developer setting to avail of thy services.
This conduct of thine is most unacceptable and unprofessional in mine eyes. It doth seem a transgression of privacy, for thy app doth dictate what settings I may or may not have on mine own personal phone. How canst thou deny me access to mine own bank account information merely on the grounds of having enabled developer options? How doth this option interfere with thy application, such that thou must needs coerce thy users to forsake their phone settings to utilize thy app?
I beseech thee to rectify this issue with all due haste, so that I may access mine own bank account without hindrance. If thou art incapable of doing so, then prithee, might thou recommend a more user-friendly banking application to which I may gladly switch?
With frustration and discontent at this time,
A locked-out person.
Backstory : So recently one of my banking app stopped working and forced me to update to their latest version. As soon as i opened the newer version , it shut down and redirected to my browser with a shitty html page with just one message : Disable developer options on your device to continue using our app. I was extremely frustated and couldnt understand what kind of idiots were maintaining this app.So i decided to write up an email hoping to find some solution for this.11 -
Arrived at office then almost immediately the boss, who's also a developer, tells me he changed something on the protocol/api.

Me: obviously...

After a few years of dreaming about becoming an Android Developer, I am almost ready to release my fully native Android app in Google Play. Wish me luck 😊7
-
*during project development, we use a library as core of tye app*
Manager: We need to add feature X.
Me: The library developer announced that this feature is not supported.
Manager: why is that?
Me: *giving some tech explanation*
Manager: ok, but still we need it urgently, we told the client we already have it.
Just a simple day on my work9 -
So sometime back I was working as an android developer for a startup managed by a guy who wasn't much of a techie. The team wanted a share image to facebook option in the app, which required FB SDK integration into the app, which in turn will increase the app size and request more permissions. On discussing this with them and asking for the app secrets, they said that I'm being ridiculous, and denied me from giving the app secrets, citing the reason 'They're called secrets for a reason'.3

My company just got a new developer to work on a legacy PHP app.
My boss was boasting about how this guy has more years of professional experience than me ( I have 9 months of experience and he has been working for 4 years on PHP).
Today was one week since he started and I had him set up a REST API, I had to explain to him what json_encode does and how http requests work.6 -
So this bloody hilarious, I submit my PWA to windows store, mainly for shits and giggles, see how the whole thing works and all that.
App gets approved, I go in and run another submission to upload a few extra screenshots, at this point they block it as I do not have a privacy policy, but accept user authentication, which is not the case, so after a few days of back and forth I ask them to attach a screenshot, so turns out I need a privacy policy as when the users click on the map link which opens Google Maps in a NEW window, has a sing in button.
According to them, this is 'Opening within my application" and I am apparently able to access user details via google own sign in link, not SSO.
So as a joke, after some frustration I wrote up a privacy policy, what is an even bigger joke is that they accepted it…
This exists solely for the benefit of Microsoft who are having trouble comprehending the fact that RTMS Events does NOT have Authentication.
Microsoft believes that as the application uses Google Maps, and when Google Maps opens a “Sign In” button appears, that I am able to access your personal information.
As any reasonable person will understand, that is not the case, logging into Google Maps/Google for the benefit of using Google Maps in NO WAY gives anyone else access to your personal information.
So to be clear, I do not have any interest or access of any kind to your personal information, should you have any concerns about your privacy, remember, that the “Sign In” button is for Google, not RTMS, take up any issues with them, I am pretty sure they have a REAL and actually NECESSARY privacy policy.
http://rtms.events/privacy.html3 -
I forgot to say the biggest distraction isn't that guy at work, no it's actually my job!
I'm an app developer but I want to be a game developer, it takes me so long to get to/from work.
This job is boring and I want to get another one at least closer to home and can at least pay me a bit more than minimum wage so I can save up more :/ but from the looks of things the jobs listed are the wanting experience without giving any. -
Freelancing sucks. "A good developer told me this should take a couple hours." Or "I need an Uber like app with built in payment and social integration. We have a $50 budget and it shouldn't take more than a day or two to build." Or "I need a simple game built. Should work on Apple and Android. No budget but we could work out a share of profits." Really wish I had a real job...8

The main reason I want to be an app developer is so that I can enable dark themes by default. That way people can see for themselves and the dark side can take over!3
-
So, today a client said: "If you are a web developer, well you can make me a damn mobile app. It's the same fooking thing, you just write code and make it go on my device. I want a whatsapp-like app for my company."
I really, really wanted to punch him on his godamn face... At the end I spent tbe rest of the meeting explaining that I don't develop mobile apps since I'm a web developer and that it is NOT THE SAME THING. He went angry and said "Well, I think I'll find a better dev somewhere else. You are a useless one"10 -
Best thing about being a mobile developer:
Whenever your elders give you shit for being on the phone too much, tell them that you are testing your app and get away with it.1 -
In today’s episode of hybrid/cross platform tools are shit:
Electron 6 and 7 use private API’s on Mac OS, violating apple App Store rules, and apps now can’t be submitted.
The responses also say that continued attempts to try to hide private api usage may result in developer accounts being terminated.
So by using electron, you may get your Apple developer account closed down permanently .... rightly so for picking electron in my mind

My tech lead keeps assigning me incident tickets in the company's worst legacy app because I solved some bug in it a while ago. I'm the only one who gets assigned these.
If this keeps going, I know for sure that I will be regarded as the designated developer for this application. Then I will be truly fucked.5 -
I received a job offer as web-app developer and, in order to access the interview, I had to do an online QI test.
I login in the website and I see an ugly cluster of links, missing informations, errors at receiving the data I just inserted, a lot of bugs, broken links, images not availables, blank pages and so on.
I'm not sure I want to work there anymore6 -
A lot of people seeing the devRant app on my phone:
What's that?
I always answer:
A safe place for developer ;)
What are your one sentence descriptions for this awesome app? ;)15 -
I pay over $100 per year for Apple's piece of shit developer program and the app store connect website isn't even accessible right now.
Great.4 -
Me: there it is, app is complete and work correctly
Friend: What is this 5 warnings?
Me: It's nothing just ignore them
Friend: If you are a true developer fix these warnings
Me: (after 5 hours) compile..... 14 Error, 😡 fuck you I want my warnings back3 -
After getting a fund for my startup company as a PHP Developer, they changed the app to Django and fired all the Technology team. (O_o)7

This is from my personal experience. I've been working on an Android app, I'm a web developer tho. I don't have much experience in java but just watching a decent YouTube tutorial and getting the source code to play with, helped me more than I had hoped for.3

If my UI is bad, the app is shit.
If my functionalities are bad, the app is shit.
Being an android developer requires you to be a fill stack developer by default.8 -
One thing every junior web developer learns is how to implement a login system.
They may not make it the most secure, but it works.
It boggles my mind how Microsoft still don't know how to make a login that works consistently.
Every Microsoft login page requires like 30 redirections to work.
The Teams app on my PC fails to login at least once a week, just because another Microsoft app is logged in using the same account (usually office), but Windows is not.
Microsoft needs to take it's head out of it's ass and BEG Google to teach them how to make a decent login system.4 -
Good news!
I recently found a job at a call center for a local Japanese food joint, and I will finally get enough money for a paid Apple Developer certificate, and now I will be able to publish the app on TestFlight, have proper notification services, etc! I will update you on the situation.7 -
This former developer made an app 2 years ago which is in production since then. On the 404 page it's throws the database credentials. The database saves personal information about the mobile owner.
Luckily I found out and fixed it. The client doesn't know about this.
Oh boy!1 -
Why the fuck does Apple hate developers so much? I just want to test and play around a bit. Why do I have to own a fucking Mac? Why do I need to pay 99$ a year just to install a debug build on my own device?! It's literally impossible to get into ios development without being rich or having some kind of plan for revenue...
Testing my app on Android:
Install Android studio -> plug in phone -> run code in Android Studio or simply install the resulting apk on your phone.
Trying to test my app on my iPad:
Google how to build app for iPad -> reading that you have to own a Mac to run xcode when you want to build Code for iOS -> searching for a workaround -> find a way to build my app online -> setting the tool and building it -> Trying out 5 different tools to sideload the app, no one works -> finding out that you need a developer account to sign the app for testing purposes on MY OWN DEVICE. I really would appreciate it if I would be able to install personal stuff for testing and LEARNING without being forced into insolvency. Why are people putting up with this kind of bullshit?18 -
I am building a live streaming app.

I am building a photo sharing app
General public: why don't you use Instagram
I am building a social network
General public: why don't you use Facebook
I am build a audio app

Developer: WHY DONT YOU ALL FUCK OFF I am building it anyway dickhead7 -
Just wanted to spread awareness about a Windows 10 devRant app called "devRant Unofficial". It's literally a 1:1 clone of the Android and iOS apps.
Maybe the devRant team could contact the dev for come co-operation and get an official app for Windows 10 with little to none effort?
It works on mobile and PC so I can easily use it on my Lumia and Surface. I know most of you guys here use macOS, but for us Windows devs, having an official app would be cool.
I know Valve talked to an unofficial developer of the Steam app for Windows Phone, and gave him approval for removing the "unofficial" tag. I suggest you guys do the same.
Happy 2016's death everyone, and sorry for the long and boring post!13 -
I developed an app for a company when I was 19 years old freshly out of school, lead developer. When I was 20 a huge TV station in my country covered my app in a segment on how tax payer money was being wasted on stupid shit (I mean yeah lol). They found a super emberassing typo on the start page of the app that they then made fun of. Still haven't recovered from that one lol10

I study and work as a tech support guy in a company and the head of Android development wanted to speak to me : want to help us with some changes in the app? Now I am a junior Android developer. Not even mad 🤔3

Boss: we will build mobile app with web app.
Me: absolutely yes.
Boss: you will do the mobile app (iOS)
Me: absolutely , yes I'm iOS developer.
Boss: you will do the android app too, we can't hired an android developer.
Me: absolutely, yes.(but I need to learn it first).
Boss: you will do the web app , it's difficult to find good web developer)

I recently started my professional journey as a developer and I stumbled upon a very strange git repo configuration..
Background: The projects consist on a web app and a lot of backend services in C# (1 service on each project).
The project manager decided to configure the the git repo as a single repo with all of the different projects for the services and the project of the webapp. All in one. Everytime you update something the merge results absurd and this happened…18 -
Friend: Hey I need an app to download videos from youtube.
Me: The store is full of those app..
F: naah, they're all full of Ads and spams
M: So..?
F: You're a mobile developer, make one..
M: Uhmm *I am learning React Native, so why not.."
"And he's a good friend of mine", so..
I created a repo for this (This is just my todo app) :p

Downside of being a developer without design skills & creativity.
--
Yesterday, i created a simple food ordering app for our office. I shared it to my dev colleagues and got a decent feedback (except for the new hire). But when shared it to people like writers and graphic designers. I feel a bit off.
Graphic D: "The app should not use a blue color scheme. because blue is an UNAPPETIZING COLOR", "The yellow color is too vibrant"
Writers: They are blabbing about the grammar and spellings :(
New Hired Dev: Can you share me the codes?
** I always trying to learn how to do webdesign but i think its not really for me :(8 -
A coworker of mine was asked to make a utility C# app to help with our internal testing. The idea was that the app would collect data and display the results.
He decided that it was very important that the app have a command line interface. He's spent far more time building the app from scratch for the command line than he would have if he'd used C#'s built-in GUI utilities.
Today was our demo day and he shows an internal command-line app in 2017 built in C#. I asked about the GUI and he said that the command line functionality was more important. I suggested that it was maybe less user-friendly and he proceeded to explain to me how "non-technical" people might prefer a GUI, but clearly any serious developer would just want a command line app.
I feel like, in one fell swoop, he trivialized my suggestion, didn't address any of the data visualization needs, and suggested I wasn't a "real developer". Am I right to feel a little outraged by this?5 -
So apparently I can't test my apps on my own device without paying my Apple Developer Certificate.
I knew it is needed to pay for it if you want to publish/distribute your app but c'mon... This is ridiculous.
My app was literally a fresh app creation, a fucking white screen one page fucking app and when I tried to run in on my iPhone, then I ended up having this problem:

I think nobody as a developer or as a sysadmin wants to deal with a grouchy sysdba. As a full stack developer who sometimes does the work of a sysadmin or sysdba I prefer to do things myself when I can.
But last week I was notified that my app was failing in prod. After some debugging the problem seemed to be related to some queries.
Upon further inspection I realized that the cunt revoked the select grant for the user my app was using.
I will let that sink in. He revoked the fucking select grant. Wtf😶3 -
So for our current Hybrid application in Cordova, we are using few open source PLUGINS
One of the plugins have some known unresolved issues, stopping us to customize our App
Now my Client and Project Manager want me to personally CALL that guy (original developer) and TELL HIM to resolve the issue in '3 days, before Monday'
God save me :/2 -
client to Freelance programmer : we'll need a website, an android app, an ios app, a windows phone app, a windows desktop application, a Linux app, a mac app, we also want an interactive game version of the app, for learning and tutorials, can you develop all that? *developer : yes. *goes to learn c# : )20

Another day, another time exporting svgs from Figma, sizing them, and exporting them to png into our app as the developer.
But no, I get it, what designers do is extremely taxing on the brain and any additional steps must be excruciating! Let me do anything that requires even the lowest of double-digit IQ! After all, I'm your local resident full stack clown™️!

Non developer boss gets excited and praises your talent in writing a simple gui app. Gets angry when you refuse to write an algorithm to semantically infer the topic of discussion from a given text.1

I’m a long time Objective-C and Swift developer...I’ve been asked to “research” a project using React Native.
It felt dirty to be writing an iOS app using JavaScript.
I’m still not sure why and how React Native is better/faster than native Swift.
Someone change my mind...11 -
ComputerToucher: *opens Jira ticket* Dev team needs tokens for the APM for a new app with multiple tenants. Ezpz. Hey, developer. Do you want one golden token for all of your app tenants or would you like us to generate one token for each?
Developer: Let’s have a meeting to discuss it.
CT: It’s…an exceedingly simple question. One token or 4? Which does your app support?
Dev: Yeah I think we should discuss with this with the platform team, can you set up the call?
CT: (Internally) I am the platform team? Do you not know how your applica-never mind I’ll just ask the PM directly.
CT (in chat): I’ll ask PM to schedule the call.

Reporter: We are now here reporting live from the native mobile app wilderness. As you can see in our captured footage, a developer is going rampage over some mobile UI components.
Native iOS: grrrr... I hate radio buttons!!!..grrr...dropdown lists, too! keep them away from me! I'm allergic to android and web controls, d*mn it! what kind of designer are you!?!
Reporter: That's it for today's devRant episode. Back to you, Steve.1 -

So yesterday I was testing my friend's app which as said by him is 100% okay.
I found 48 major bugs and reported him. His reaction was "Dude these are just minor issues and client don't even know about it. See there is some real bugs?"
RIP to the app developer and the client. -
My first rant! let's see what is about!
Greetings from Venezuela, the oil and corruption country of South America...
Is it possible to become a good software developer just being constant, every day trying, even when you don't know what you're doing but, keep it up till you accomplish a goal? Or is anything more needed to succeed? I mean I'm trying to make my first desktop app and sometimes I feel like fck! I'm leaving this... I'm trying to dominate the software development process to get better a better job, in here or out there... But geez its hard...
Well, I want to believe that maybe someday I will become a good software developer...
First rant without thinking too much...10 -
I found weird that some developer never ask why when facing a problem. "What do you mean never ask why?" here some story.
Let's say a developer work with simple app. Laravel as Backend and Postgresql as Database. He face a problem that the app very slow when searching data.
In order to solve that problem he implement cache using redis but he found problem that it fast occasionally. In order to solve that problem he implement elasticsearch because he think elasticsearch very good for search but he found another problem that sometimes data on postgresql out of sync with data on elasticsearch. In order to solve that problem he implement cronjobs to fix out of sync data but he found another problem that cronjobs cannot fix out of sync data in real time. and so on...
Do you see the problem? He never ask why the app slow. Which part search the data? Backend or Database (Search in the Backend mostly slower than Database because Backend have to get all data on database first). Has the query been optimized? (limit offset, indexing). How about the internet connection? etc.
For me it's important to ask why when facing a problem and try to solve the problem as simple as possible.2 -
Client: THIS IS CRITICAL, SOME DATA HAS BEEN DELETED, WHAT ZE FUUK HAPPENED, UNDO THIS FAST
Us: so after carefully reviewing the code, related resources and the network traffic we conclude that was never sent in the first place.

I'm glad we got such a meaningful bug report on the same day a production system started failing, one big deployment that that was like a boss with 3 phases, an unnecessary long meeting and an app developer that that wanted me to break HTTP standards.1 -
I have been working on an app for the startup i co-founded as only developer fulltime for the last 8 months...
I have yet to buy my first bread from the money i dont earn..

Nowadays I develop cross platform app, when I speak with an Android or iOS developer I feel like I'm summoning the satan.4
-
So somehow paid version of my app is available somewhere for free (old version of the app though). People are downloading it, and will obviously see the invalid license message. There is an option in that case to mail the developer just in case there was something wrong with the license checking, and guess what? Those people are mailing to me about invalid license. 😂😂😂😂3
-
When someone post a review (3 stars out of 5) where asks to make the app/game free so the developer will get even more downloads, he will give him 5 stars instead of 3, and everyone will be happier...3
-
Backend API developer that doesn't admit his mistakes. Damn, he's annoying the whole team.
Basically crashed the whole app by messing up the settings for the CORS policy, and still doesn't admit it. When he fixed it, the only reply we get was "I erased the thing and put it back and it works".
WOW!5 -
I feel fucked, I feel fucked right up in the ass.
Remember that app I had to do to get the job? I found out the other candidates weren't even able to install Android Studio and that their deadline was postponed. And that they weren't able to complete the app.
I did everything with a really good design, solid programming, even added animations and made it so the recyclerview loads 15 items at a time while you scroll down smoothly. I. DID. EVERYTHING IN ONE DAY. I missed a good night of sleep.
I didn't get the job. They gave it to a fucker that was a web developer. I saw his app. It was really crappy (I'm not being petty or malicious, it was really bad from a dev point of view and a user point of view).
I feel. Disappointed. in this unfair world. And honestly I feel disappointed to the point that I don't even know if I should be a developer anymore. I feel betrayed by the hopes and the good feeling I got from the oportunity.8 -
Made this app just for the fun of it. Let me know what you guys think about it. And do suggest places for improvement. 😃

it's crazy. does no one recruit native app developer these days? they're always looking for hybrid developers, always 😭5

Solo Android app developer here. It's 4AM where I'm working. Been working alone on a project for the last 20 days. Looking to get some inspiration and discuss new ideas with other devs.
So hi!
What's up with you? What do you do?20 -
Dear my school app developer,
.
I'd like to say FUCK YOU! update your app before asking money from me.1 -
Came across an app that I really liked, but unfortunately, development has ceased for it. That also means I can't pay for it in order to get a license key. So what's a developer to do?
DECOMPILE it
After decompiling it, I placed inside the code that I paid for the app 😂

smh.
Why hire a Native iOS Developer when you're going to let him develop an iOS app to look EXACTLY like its Android counterpart?
There's hybrid and cordova for that if you want your apps to look and feel exactly the same.
Can't we all just agree to appreciate the distinct differences in UI for both platforms? Navigation especially? Copy context not UI.undefined android copy context not ui ios apple google human interface design material design hybrid -
My newly joined developer colleague had some problem starting the web app we are working on locally. After changing some configuration files,
Me: Restart the app
My Dev Colleague: Do I have to close it?
Me: Yeah, there will be a red cross on the right top corner, just click on that😑😒2 -
Voice in my head: You should do something good this weekend.
My body: Yeah let's code up a community fostering app for the neighborhood.....
Two Nights later:
Amidst a half empty bottle of Jack ...
Voice in my head: dude why isn't this shit working, you've done this billions of times.
My body: It's your fault...time to drink you away.
And like that,
At the break of day,
A hungover and glazed developer,
Debugged! as they say.

My boss wants me to make a web application in .NET, it's like asking a Android developer to build the app for iOS as well.
Note: Im a PHP developer4 -
This app seems to be mostly web developers so I have a question that will either spark interesting discussion or a blood curdling flame war. Either way:
I'm trying to build a blog site for myself. I'm not a web developer, for the most part I write C software, but I have written web software before. I want to write it, not use a CMS. What are some techniques and tools I should be aware of, so I don't break my keyboard in frustration?11 -
I didn't posted something in a long time so...
TL;DR: FUCK YOU ANDROID STUDIO YOU FUCKING SHIT PIECE OF SOFTWARE
Thank you for your time.
I am running my own meme social network. For quite some time I wished I knew a Android developer, which could help me.
Because I know java I tried it myself, and Android studio is one of the worst programms I've ever seen.
My app crashed the whole time, just because my studio version was 1 behind. Updated studio, everything worked.
My layout wasn't showing correctly, reopened Studio, all layouts deleted.
For no good reason video views aren't resizing, so I need to use exoplayer.
One video on my platform nearly crashes the app when creating a thumbnail.
And so one....
I fucking hate Android studio...
(PS: if your a German, Swiss, Austrian you could check out my network and may become a beta tester of the app)15 -
I hate how the IOS developer of our team gets all the recognition for an app we made just because the manager has a bloody iPhone, even though I did the entire backend and Android app.1
-
The developer of this app should post their technology stack so we could rant about how faster and better in general it would be if they used something else! :D8
-
Starting out as an Android Developer, at first I thought I'm not cut out for this but after finding this app I'm a little more confident in myself, Everybody needs to rant every once in a while! Glad I found this, everyone on here seems awesome!6

So I am working on a cloud app, Angular on the frontend and NestJS with heavy AWS dependency at the backend. I took my time to learn the stack and I have a couple of years of experience with each piece involved.
Since I am a Level 1 developer, management thought (and I felt same way) it would be nice for me to work with a couple of Level 3 devs.
Well, they hired Level 3 devs:
- a senior Java developer who never touched AWS, any kind of frontend or Typescript
- a senior c++ dev with the same “never touched” as above
And guess what? I have to train them both in Angular, Typescript etc. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of L3, “they will help you to deliver stuff fast”, and adds load on me (I am already a shared resource on 3 teams).
Oh, and yeah, management already promised to release the app by the end of the year and so far I am the only capable and functional developer on the team who has to deliver everything.
I had so much hope for new hiring cycle lol10 -
I've published my first app on the Play Store! Does this mean I get to call myself a developer now? 🤔2

Developer vs non developer interview:
Non developer:
How well do you know excel ?
Developer:
How would you write spreadsheet app, what if it was cross platforms mobile application but also desktop app ?
Non developer:
Do you know how to use windows?
Developer:
Do you know kubernetes, distributed systems, lambdas, cloud services and how to deploy to server farm ?
Non developer:
You know how to use printer / fax and coffee machine ?
Developer:
Do you have experience in writing code for embedded devices ?
Non developer:
Do you know powerpoint ?
Developer:
How well do you know javascript / html / css, are you comfortable with writing backend node.js code or electron applications ?
React native and native apps maybe ?5 -
This is outrageous and satisfying at the same time.
Error message meant for a developer and why the fuck the stackexchange app does not work on Google signin2 -
WTF with all this full screen popup to promote a mobile app on so many perfectly functional mobile/responsive websites. If I'm the developer of that mobile website and asked to add that kind of popup to my work, I'd be offended.1
-
Sure I'll be the sole developer on this Facebook equivalent app whilst also being the lead dev on 3 others!

Me: the web app is downloading a lot of static content while loading the page, leading to the app being very slow in low bandwidth locations. can you ensure compression is enabled while serving static files ?
UI Developer: sure, I'll look into that. Btw, I have a question reg that.
Me: yes, pls.
UI Developer: once the compressed static files are downloaded to the browser, should I write a separate module to uncompress them ?
Me: :-(Strategic Facepalm) -
I'm not here to underestimate the design of a government app on Android.
I hope the developer considered the UI itself as user-friendly and not the default button from android studio. he just simply copies the contents(text & images) from the government web page and paste it to its application.
He/she got paid well to make that app. well, although the information is correct for the users.
It's not much that users are even enthusiastic of the design. they simply read the guidelines inside the app and no more fancy animation.1 -
When you have a dev domain, yet your senior developer coworkers still add "Dev" to their app names..
-
I made a web app where I can build any kind of form, with sections, validations, multiple type of inputs (even coordinates or polygons, photos, etc.) while allowing to see a preview of how that would look in a mobile app. That preview is because when you're done building the form and saved it to the DB, then in a mobile app (which I made as well) you can choose that form and use it.
Everything is beautiful, but after 3 sections with 25 questions each, everything becomes really slow because of the insane amount of actions that redux-form fires on every character type 😢
Today I made a public demonstration, and despite my code is very clean and well made, I think, that slowness made me look like a shitty developer, even thought I know what I made is like a 1000 times better than what I was asked to develop.8 -
When the client reports u a bug in the app, then u noticed that the error comes from the info provided by the backend ..
**** HAPPY KUS IS NOT MY PROBLEM****
Then u realized that you are the backend developer too..1 -
The thing I hate most about apple is if I were to write an app for iOS for my iPhone using friends I'd have to pay 100€ developer fee and buy a f***ing MacBook. F***ing dictatorial, freedom-hating, money-grabbing, piece of sh*t apple.5
-
More and more of my friends and family are finding out I'm an Android Developer. I'm so sick of hearing, "Hey, I have a great idea for an app...". They all think you can build a good mobile app from scratch in a few days.2
-
I might have just git-committed the cardinal developer sin: not multiplying estimates by 3. Torvalds help me!
So a php app I developed a few months ago when I was first starting as a dev needs an upgrade. Pretty simple since I've known about said upgrade for a while, but the feature was never needed until today.
Told my boss it would take a day or two of refactoring and additions for it to work.
How screwed am I?4 -
Hey Linux users. Right now I have a 2011 MacBook pro the new MacBooks you are unable to take apart so I will not buy another one. So if you had a choice of any laptop what would you choose? I do not game I am a web developer and play around with app development and I build ruby CLI's. Any suggestions on what PC? Also I'm looking at arch Linux for distro what do you guys think?15

When you realise a so-called app developer has used nvarchar columns to store every single date record, in every DB table of your platform.
Using d/m/Y format.
Without leading zeros.
And, in just a few tables, m/d/Y.
*sigh*2 -
Been working on an Android app for a month and finally when it was time to publish I couldn't pay Developer registration fee for God knows what reason. :/
Keep getting
"An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later"
Feeling like shit :/3 -
Fuck apple, and fuck xcode.
Making and running android app was a breeze.
Making and running ios app was hell.
Expectation : I should have gotten everything I need just by installing xcode and flutter.
Reality : I need to install these from the terminal : xcode command line tools, homebrew, ruby, cocoapods, firebase-cli. Also I need to manually add many stuffs, such as google login url into xcode project settings. Also we can simply test run our app or install to our device, and iphone we owned, we need to register in apple developer program, fill a full form, blah blah blah.
When it comes to android, I only need to register an account much much later, when I want to publish it to the playstore.5 -
Dear every app developer or web managers/designers that can read this.
Specificly, the ones who own a android app.
If you have an old android app that is still updated from time to time.
Please, take your time for just one minute.
AND REPLACE YOUR GOD DAMN OLD "Get it on google play" BADGE WITH THE NEW ONE, PLEASE! ITS NOT THAT HARD, WHY ARE YOU GUYS NEVER UPDATE TO NEW LOGOS?!
NOT JUST OLD APPS, EVEN SOME BEW STARTUPS ARE ACTUALLY USING THE OLD BADGE, WHY OH DEAR GOD WHY! WERE YOU LIVING UNDER ECLIPSE ROCK OR SOMETHING?!?1 -

So after the team have been digging through to work out why the app is spitting out errors it turns out that turning off developer mode clears the issue up.
This thing has been spitting out errors since its release in 2012 but the engine was handling it internally 🤣2 -
Is anyone else annoyed and / or bothered with how google handles the publishing of apps on its store.
Like I have an account for a client with the clients name and all other his data. I publish a new app on his account with the same name as his account and the app gets rejected for copyright violation because the name and material are copyrighted to the client who is publishing the app.
This is the scenario:
Lets call the client Luis, and he has a developer account named Luis with email luis@luis.com
And the app is called Luis, but when I tried to publish it it was rejected because it contains copyrighted material from Luis.
Wtf?!?!???
Like I understand they need to protect the store from fake apps and all, but how do I give myself the permission to use something I own ?
And now I need to find a way for a client to make a contract from him to him for his material so that google will publish the app -
So I started at a new company about two months ago. I was hired as a Senior .net developer, which I am well qualified. I also told them that I did MVC but haven’t done react or angular.
So my first project with this company is building a react-native app. (Never done a native app either) The craziest thing is I am the most senior on this project too.
What is even crazier, I still work for my old company on the side, and the only .net I am doing is for them. And even funnier, my old company thought the reason I was leaving was to do more .net development.2 -
Two (2) senior developers and one (1) senior tester left our team and I am left with two (2) Java legacy applications that are hard to maintain. Here is a list of things I hate about these old webapps (let's call them app A and B):
1. App A depends on 80% web services. If one web service for a product or warehouse goes down, work flow is impeded while prod support team checks with the core services team for repair
2. App B is a maven project with multiple modules dependent on libraries that are dependent on company's internal libraries. So if we want to upgrade to OpenJdk 9 and up, the project will definitely produce a lot of errors due to deprecated/unsupported codes
3. App A is dependent on Tibco and I have no experience on that
4. App B's continuous integration build tool is Jenkins and the jobs that build it has a shell script that wasn't updated during the tech upgrade enhancement. The previous developer who did the knowledge transfer to me didn't tell me about this (it should be considered a defect on her part but she already resigned)
5. App A when loaded in eclipse IDE is a pain to work with since it is only allowed to build a war file using ant. I have to lookup in quick search instead of calling shortcuts (call hierarchy) because the project wasn't compiled via eclipse.
6. It's impossible to debug app A because of #5
7. Both applications have high priority and complex enhancements and I have no other teammates to help me
8. You never know what else can go wrong anytime1 -
Change haproxy config on the remote machine so that every developer gets rerouted to an older version of the development app.

So, against like 90% of all odds, we (I) managed to submit the application to Apple for review at the ripe old time of 21.27 last night.
Events of the day included:
- fighting with appstoreconnect (turns out they just return a 500 if you haven't paid your Apple developer membership)
- legal being over an hour later than our absolute deadline for getting the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
- said T&C's and Privacy Policy being delivered in Word, and having to manually format those for our app (thanks guys, please don't use tables again)
- removing FAQs altogether because "it would have taken too long to make those today" (ticket in Jira for this for ~4 months)
- our app was targeting both iPad and iPhone, so we had to rebuild the app for iPhone only because "we don't have app store images for iPad".
On the bright side, that leaves 3 days next week to get the rest of the backend finished for actual go live on Monday 16th, so long as Apple don't reject the app.
Side note: adding the target-device preference affected the android build somehow? despite the preference being iOS only, and wrapped in a platform="iOS" section. -
I don't know if our QA is good enough. We were developing an app for both ios and android. I, an ios developer, told the QA guy that it will take long before uploading the app in the testflight (convert swift2 to swift3). After a week the app is now uploaded in the test flight and at the same time my partner, an android developer, uploaded the android version of the app in the play store beta. The QA guy started to raise bug issues about the android version. He wanted to fix the bugs immediately since our boss needed to upload it in the play store and appstore. The QA guy kept on complaining to my partner why the android version is buggy. Then he said something we, me and my partner, facepalm.
The QA guy said " You shouldn't convert the app to swift 3. The ios version is fine when converted why the android version is buggy. You need to revert it back to swift 2"
We sit there in silence, thinking if we pity the QA guy or laugh at him. -

So now I think I've got everything in my app right.... But I can't test it because ***** xcode doesn't create a **** certificate so I can deploy it to my phone (it uses motion sensors)
I deleted all the certificates of developer from the keychain because of a bug and now I **** can't deploy my apps for testing....
Please, does anyone know how to reset the icloud keychain to absolute nothing?7 -
I was having second thoughts of buying another course from Udemy. Good thing I didn't. I've learned so much more from experience than I ever will with a beginner course.

New task with a march deadline, our 1 developer (me) will work on multiple projects, while also learning about AR (I'm a WebDev) and creating a commercial ready AR app....

My client had a meeting and presentation of app for one possible client of that app. I, as a developer of that app, left a hardcoded id,I saw it but forgot about it immediately. Let's just say filtering did not work properly. Sorry.1

Me: I need some time to understand this app(taking over it from another developer without explanation)
Boss: I need to bill the client, please finish all the pending features.
Me: :/1 -
So you have saved up some money, got a macbook, paid for an apple developer account to build an app which uses the camera only to find out that the simulator doesnt work with the macbook's camera. Apple do you realise that without devs you wouldn't have a decent app store?8

Developed an app to display examination seats allocated by an algorithm developed by someone else.
The algorithm goes berserk and allocates randomly. Spectacular failure of the system follows.
Everyone blames me for all the trouble.
The algorithm developer smiles in the background. WTH! -
Been a mobile developer since April, liking the experience and the amount of projects that I've been a part of.
And one of the things that I've learned about this is that sometimes the client doesn't even know what he really wants. I mean for fucksakes, we implement everything, and new functionalities and there's always something that works on every other app (and is basically a standard) and he thinks is not suppose to be like that...
And another thing. Fuck Apple Store. At the company we've developed an app that practically shows information that only users should see (in our logic is sensitive information from our clients) and they DECLINED 4 FUCKING TIMES THE APP. Reason? Since the app's purpose "isn't correlated" with the basical information we show, the user can navigate through the app without going through login.
We basically added an "explore option" that shows basically nothing and they've accepted. FUCK APPLE FOR WAISTING OUR TIME AND THE CLIENTS TIME1 -
Me and my colleagues, just 3 of us are building a web app. I'm doing the front end part now after struggling with the back end. Does this qualify me as a full stack developer.4

As of my previous posts, I wanted to share with you my latest app.
It allows to read feeds from wordpress websites without having to deal with banners, ads, weird fonts and so on.
It's ugly as fuck as it still uses the standard ionic/angular style, but it works, and that's what matters.
Of course it's just for Android, as I really don't want to pay for an app store developer account.
Here the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
Any suggestion or comment is really appreciated and I thank you in advance for any download, rating, usage or whatever feedback.
Thank you very much.2 -
Don't refractor for fun!
An anecdote from my previous company. A developer had written a shitty java console app for fetching stock prices. About 3000 LOC. just one java GOD class. So, when me and my friend looked at it, we were amazed how that code works with all that if conditions spanning 100LOC. so. My dear friend underestimated the complexity. Since it just fetches stock price and puts in database right. I can write it in few days and much better one. So, he started writing code in an OO way. Three days later I see he still working on it. Having a glimpse at code. The app is now Object oriented shitty and ugly.
Guess what new code never goes in prod too.
Learning
Don't underestimate complexity of app.
Be empathic about fellow developer. Don't think he has written a shitty code. Think why he had to do so.
Don't work on refractors if there is no one to guide you.3 -
So I'm a developer trainee. My development machine ? - was given a MacBook pro that was used by previous developer. The home screen is filled with random project files and documents.
Try to click on the pad, doesn't work, realized you have to press it real hard on side to click , wth, crappy touchpad. Back to setup.
I guess create a new account. Need to make an apple ID, heck no, create account without it, logon and just realized, shit all the tools need be installed..
Go to app store, need an apple id, heck.. , create an id, login, realize most of the tools aren't in app store...
Log back in crazy's account, power windows virtual machine..
Desktop filled with shyteload of files.. try to personalize windows, Windows isn't activated.. the heck.
Give up, just install vscode on corporation desktop machine for now, while the MacBook is a paperweight, and my shield in case of a gun situation
Better I see the crazy Dev who worked on this machine, and hit em in head with this paperweight.undefined developer that covers all the paper underneath mac wth mcshytebook my new paperweight macbook wth!?!? wth??! windows the struggle2 -
FUCK XCODE. FUCK AUTOLAYOUT. I have been working on my app for eight months, perfecting every detail and making the UI absolutely stunning. Today, Apple rejected my app for not supporting iPad. My app was not supposed to support iPad, I would hate for a user to install on an iPad. So, I said whatever and tried to autolayout the app. This didn't work, so I turned off autolayout. Guess what. My entire layout was destroyed and when I tried to click the undo button, nothing happened. This is classic Xcode. I am so fucking pissed, I want to scream. I just lost months of hard work because they can't fucking get their developer tool working, but they can release a phone with no headphone jack.4

So today I inherited an iPhone app written for iPhones 3 & 4 in Objective-C.
I am facing two not so unique problems:
1. I hate Objective-C so I quickly converted it to Swift but as expected I created a tonne of errors and warnings that I am working through
2. The developer(s) didn't think it important enough to leave a solitary comment explaining what the hell they were doing.
So looking forward to a few weeks of swearing and getting myself all upset trying to get this app to work in a complete information black hole.3 -
So my boss wants me to develop a complete business management solution + mobile app. (It’s a startup project based company). She doesn’t want to use dubsado / asana / etc and wants me to take the best of all and custom build it for her.
Now I was a mobile app developer. Native iOS and android + recently learnt flutter. No backend or web or api skill.
But screw it, I wanted to learn laravel since a long time anyway so that I could be an independent developer.
So I have agreed and started it...
Bitten more than I can chew? Time will tell...what do you think?10 -
I can create and deploy a web app (LAMP stack) but I don't know how to create mobile apps. Should I hire mobile devs in the future or self study and create the mobile apps? Um or find some mobile developer to partner with? 🤨4

I wanna make a mobile app. I just don’t know what to do. I was thinking on a study app , but my mockups were basically a ripoff from an app i used some time ago (funny how we think we can do better, but end up with the same shit). So now, back to square one :/
Any ideas? Anyone needing a very willing developer ?3 -
I recently entered a new job as a software developer for a hot-in-market startup, and they are offering a huge amount of money to maintain just one app
The reason why they are offering that much money is because it is a hybrid app written in closurescript, they are willing to pay for learning closure but just maintain the app
So yay?2 -

Hey everyone, I'm ecstatic and nervous! I got my first technical phone interview from a company I'd actually really want to work with for a full stack (mostly frontend) react node web app developer job. Any tips or stories of your first technical phone interview with a company you cared about?! I think it will really help me. Thanks! 😅4
-
Had my first ever final interview as a developer after passing the first ever coding assignment, now can't stop thinking if I should have answered the questions differently.
I was very honest to my answer when they asked "How do you test your application?" As I started building the app with 0 knowledge about software development and know nothing about software testing. So I just told them the truth that I did not do any proper test, I just used a checklist and manual test to test my app and the app that I created for the assignment was the first app that I write a proper test cases and implement an automated test. The same goes to other questions like automated deployment and OOP experience. I just told them the honest truth even though I know that they are not the best practice. Did I just f*cked up the interview??
Arghh can't stop thinking2 -
I don't like how I develop our apps right now. My team leader said that the UI of the App, we are developing, only our UI/UX expert makes decision on how our app will look like. No developer must interfere. It's like shut up and do this. It's practically insane!6

Am currently handling a very bad code, once you add any feature the app crash and you have to fix the whole POKER application ( as you know poker is a really complicated and everything related to each other). The app crash and every single line of code goes wrong. As well i do barely have a break and am working overtime and during the weekend.
In addition to all of this i have a very complicated design and animation to the chips. Adding to this am the only developer working on this project.
Summing-up am working 10 to 11 hours per day 7 days a week. And still the manager is dissing me as if am not a good developer.
I feel so bad, i cant describe how am currently feeling.
So guys do you believe handling a very bad code might reflect your coding skills ?3 -
Hello everyone.
I recently started android app development and i wanted to ask if you code entirely in java/kotlin or use xml+java/kotlin ?
I feel like to get better i should code entirely in java/kotlin. Am i wrong?3 -
I'm about to submit an app to the App Store. I took some time to make sure signing in/out of different social media accounts worked properly in my app.
I've been locked out of my Facebook developer account since yesterday due to "suspicious activity" and was asked to upload a photo of myself to verify my identity. I'm not too confident my account will be unlocked as I don't use Facebook regularly and therefore never felt the need to upload a profile picture.
Fantastic.2 -
The new twitter developer stuff is SHIT.
I need to apply now for my small app I use wanted to build this evening as an automation site project. Can't you cunts just give me access to this api so I can finish my projects.
How the fuck should I describe in 300 characters THAT I WILL BE TWEETING ONE TWEET PER WEEK NOTIFYING ABOUT A NEW EPISODE.
Now I need to fill 80 more characters with some dumb stuff just to be able to apply.....5 -
Finally got that damn web app to send out mails (2am). Turned out mail server worked, rails was properly configured, delayed jobs were running and were getting proper rights and environment. The issue was wrong configuration in app itself (somebody skipped part of the wizard). But still, fixing somebody's else server with webapp I know just a little about in languages I know even less about (not a web developer) after few guys failed and just within five hours, makes me feel both dumb (should have noticed much sooner) and proud (figured it out in the end).

These god damn idiots!11!!
Why, for duck sake, php-fpm and xdebug are using the same standard port 9000?
There are thousands of different ducking ports you could choose from!
So each developer who wants to debug his php app served by php-fpm, has to adjust the port for xdebug on something like 9001 or 10000.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy!?!??

I came from being a game developer, to doing VR/AR stuff, to mobile app/game development, to website development, to arduino, IoT and robotics.
... And now most of my time is spent on updating a portal site using a shitty cms with each page needing to be crafted manually using html and deadlines are always a few hours away, with revisions on the launch day itself.
I really wanna go back to the interesting stuff. :/2 -

I am learning C# and devRant helps me keep my concentration and attention in check during the day. Helps me stay in the zone longer and interacting with a developer community helps me adopt a mindset which helps me absorb a different way of thinking which is crucial for somebody that comes from an "opposite" field - art and design. I would not have been able to have this community "in real life" otherwise.
+ You guys are soo nice, despite the ranting concept of the app :) -
Today is one of those days where I realize there are hundreds of free APIs and tools to make something amazing and revolutionary, but you can't think of anything that isn't already done or is too advanced for an indie developer. Seriously, I watched Microsoft's Connect event keynotes and demos for these easy and amazing structures, but not a single app idea comes to mind. 😐
If I'm going to make a profit and a good resume, somethings needs to happen. -
client has no clue what he wants and keeps changing the requirements of the projects; wants to deploy "to a desktop app like electron but faster, but also as a lib for developer to use on a server like a CMS" 🤦🏻♂️; takes two hours in a call and literally tells me that he want to "hear himself speak" so he can clarify what he needs...

You know what's a great app? Termux! It's amazing. Yesterday I tried running apache on it and it worked! If you haven't tried it yet, you really should, it's great. For those of you that don't know, it's basically a custom Linux evnvironment that doesn't require root acces. You can use it for ssh, you can use vim in it, python, standard commands etc. I'm definietly thinking about buying stuff like the customization to support the developer. Btw. Along with "Hackers keyboard" it's even better!

How is a "web app" any better than a "web site"?
All a "web app" does is adding a JavaScript program as a middle-man between the browser and the server.
Where as "web sites" instantly deliver content, "web apps" deliver JavaScript code that then loads the content and puts it on the page.
A "web site" serves the browser useful content on a silver plate (metaphorically speaking), where as "web apps" serve some JavaScript code and the browser has to do the heavy lifting.
It appears that the only benefit of "web apps" is the fancier name. "App" sounds fancy while "site" sounds mundane. But technically, a "web app" is worse than a "web site". It's both slower and vulnerable to scripting errors.
Why would anyone in their right mind choose to create a web "app" over a web "site" to load text and a bunch of pictures?
I get it, some things such as posting comments without reloading the page and loading new search results when scrolling down are not possible without JavaScript, but why use JavaScript for everything, even where it wouldn't be necessary?
JavaScript should never be required to show a bunch of boxes containing pictures and some text. JavaScript is intended to enhance web sites, not to load entire websites.
As web developer Jake Archibald said, "[100% of] your users are non-JS while they're downloading your JS" ( https://twitter.com/jaffathecake/... ).
See also: I miss the good times when the web was lightweight. ( https://devrant.com/rants/9987051/... )
"App" is not an excuse: https://jakearchibald.com/2013/...
I am sad Archive.org switched to being a web app. But I applaud them for resisting that trend longer than most other large sites.28 -
Most fun I had coding?
I was developing my first android app and the database accounted for all the weekdays.
It was a night and I was coding. I build the app after 90 minutes of last build. I was fucking amazed to see that my app was running perfectly on Genymotion Emulator whilst the same god damn build crashed on my phone.
As a new novice developer, I thought it could be due to the OS version difference b/w my phone and VB.
I went on to spent an hour or so, to figure out where I had gone wrong. I re-read my code multiple times and nothing. I could not find a single error in the code.
I was fucking speachless when it hit me, FUCK, today is Saturday (last build was around 11PM Friday) and VM's time is usually screwed (it was Wednesday there) and since I had not accounted for weedends entry in database, the app crashed.
It was really fun having this sort of a bug for the first time in my life. Solved it within minutes after that. -
why so little books about enterprise paradigm on developer (best practice/app lifecycle/scrum, etc) when so many resources about coding4

"A day in the life of a mobile app developer"
No back-end validation or back-end string sanitisation.
All in the front-end. -
Okay guys.. I am so lost! I want to be a developer but can't decide on a certain area. Like should I be a web developer or mobile app? If I am a web developer, should I concentrate on front end or back end.. If mobile app developer.. Should I focus on Android or iOS or cross platform?
I really can't decide what to do and what to learn? Feels like to learn everything and at the end not learning actually anything.
Any suggestions guys? I will be really grateful!7 -
BLOODY FIREFOX DEVELOPER TOOLS
I was troubleshooting an app (inside container) hitting an endpoint. For debugging purposes I tried hitting the endpoint from my machine, but always got a 404.
So in the firefox developer tools under the network section you see all of the requests happening. Every request, application/json or url-encoded, lists its parameters inside the tab 'parameters' tab. I thought that means those parameters were i side the request body.
Turns out I should have sent the parameters as url encoded instead of POSTing JSON as the request body. This took me way too long.
Why not display the request url like http://url?key=value ... Firefox? Eh?7 -
Thoughts on Flutter!
I'd like to see something like flutter for front end web development. I like the approach used by Google for Hybrid app development.
Dart language fits perfect for the case. Static typing, OOPS, Generics, state management, UI design everything right out of the box.
I don't have to create layout separately like HTML in web or XML in android.
Everything is managed by Dart alone.
It's like what developer wishes for UI rich app development.
I'm not saying Flutter or/and Dart is the perfect solution. Every language has pros and cons. (Maybe not applicable to JavaScript! Haha! ) But still The overall solution to UI development is way cleaner than web.3 -
Promoted this last Tuesday. Went from hourly associate app Dev to application analyst. Apparently I skipped app Dev and Sr app Dev. Not the raise I wanted but still substantial. No change in responsibilities with high probability of substantial raise next year on the next budget. Curious though. Is app analyst always above developer? Titles confuse me.3

I just "inherited" an angular app from a year ago for a project that was put on hold, and after opening it in VS Code practically every TS file went red. Almost every rule in the config was not followed. Might as well have just disabled the darn thing?
The original developer is MIA so I can't contact him and ask him why either.1 -

I didn't think that it could be worse than in the companies I've been previously working at (last one was good btw)!but the current company has a code base for a website made in grails with an angular app and no existing developer knows how this site works - and there isn't a single comment in the code either. There isn't any other form of documentation either D:

*Does a minor change in the app version 1.9*
Now should I call it 1.10 or 2.0? or even better, 1.9.1?
The hardest decision of a developer4 -
I love the goddamned app. You all seem like lovely individuals with a large dose of sweet developer attitude. Reading some of these posts definitely made my tired ass chuckle.
Just got off a call with my wife, she might join the site too at this rate. Glad to be in a relationship with another dev who really caches my heart like this.6 -
My job is currently building an app for another developer business, the thing is that sometimes their teach leader 'helps' us coding the api. The other day he told us to fix a bug ASAP, they were very desperated and annoyed with us. I obviously run git bisect and blame, and guess what! The teach leader had introduced the bug 😂😆
Now everytime he merges some code, I start to tremble. -

Imagine you're a dev for mobile apps (xamarin based) and you have a great project opportunity for a client.
The problem is that the project would (besides an app) involve a web version and you don't have any experience in web development.
How would you hire a web developer for this? Via freelancer platforms like twago, via an agency or request a project from some web design company?
Related question: does anyone know a good web frontend developer :)?5 -
I would like to know who of you actually works as a developer in backend / mobile app work in native languages? (as to say, no js) With work I mean, actually working for a real company.1

The fact that I am forced to use xCode more and more again, really gets me. I miss vsCode (especially monokai pro) a lot already, but the phonegap developer app simply doesn't work with things like touchid to preview the app.

This is my story.
So, as you know, I'm a developer and so does all of you, but before I know about devRant, I was stuck with Instagram.
Yup, I was stuck with those instagram memes who was made by those social media manager who doesn't know shit about coding and post shitty memes anyway with those #memes #codingmemes #coding #codememes and all that fucking annoying hashtags.
I hate it. I was stuck with it for two years but thank god for the people who told me about this app.
I love it, but, there is some problems. As you may know this social media was created by developers for developers, and I know that this app users is very supportive for other users because of the same profession, but what if non-devs people found out about this app and start doing job offers and spamming at our feeds.
What could we do?5 -
Inherited a legacy system from a previous "developer" who wrote code to sanitize input from sql injection in the front end and then called an web method called execSql which accepts am sql statement in a string value!
Obviously the app ran under admin privileges.2 -
For the little experience I had with developing a simple Android app (that may or may not see the light of day), I find that of you want to wing it on the go on your first app ever you're gonna have a bad time.
Any android-related doc will make you have even more questions. it's like they're teasing you with a piece of candy and then you have to bow to the gods of googling and stackoverflow.
I refer to the ArcGIS, facebook (sign-in and requests), and even the android developer page does not answer everything a beginner needs to know.
Is it just me because I'm a n00b? Or did anyone else have the same experience? Will I ever get to the day where I can code an Android app without struggle? -
I'm and Android and iOS developer. This of course means that I can help everyone who asks to write their app idea, seeing as how it's so easy and I don't actually need my day job...SMH1

Imma Jr. Web developer (Ruby on Rails) working here. I've got time at home, so what should i learn?
1. Go for mob app development?
2. Advance my development skills.
(I'll be moving soon to UAE, there are many senior level jobs but not Jr. and more mob app devs jobs than web devs)
Cheeers!1 -
Just received code review from interview technical task. 50 percent of it was because of encapsulation (that 5-8 variables could have been private instead of public). 20 percent was about shit that was expected but missing (error validation, dependency injection). It was missing because it was not specified in app requirements and also noone said that I have to build a production level application for a simple interview here. 10 percent was nitpicking about formatting(I used default intellij formatter) and one ide error that appeared because of project importing. And only 20 percent of feedback was actually constructive and useful. Cool. Also developer said that he was shocked that I made loading animation but didnt call it in my app. However I made it, but if you have fast internet connection it doesnt show up. I mean if you run my app on a phone with gprs connection u will see that damn animation. What Im supposed to do slow down the app so u could see it? But we are building production level app here no? Shit. It feels like he applied double standards to me or something. Half of review nitpicking about useless details and another half about shit that is expected to be in the app but was not even communicated. Also I did not get developers contact so I could ask him what the fck he wanted from me.1

I'd heard about Project Managers being overpromising and dishing out short deadlines but we just got one dumped on us by a fellow developer for something our startup and theirs agreed to work on...
We gotta remake two fully function admin dashboards and the company's app on top of having our own startup shit to work on.
Kill me. -
How long should apps take to build? Im being told 2 hrs min, 1 wk max...did I miss something or am I just slow?
Oh, btw, ANY app goes. Not just web/mobile....😒8 -
@dfox is it a known issue to have crashes on iOS when visiting the notifications tab?
If not here’s what I can gather: When opening the notifications menu, app will crash after the devRant logo wobbles 3-4 times. After reopening the app and repeating the process about 3-5 times, the app will load into the notifications menu. However, when tapping on any individual notification, it will often crash after the same 3-4 wobbles of the devRant logo.
Now, I’m not a mobile developer (Nor a react developer, if you guys are using react) but here’s some things that I would think might cause this:
- An unhandled exception?
- If you use multiple server instances, they may be out of sync?
Not sure what it could be tbh. But I hope this helps, keep up the great work!7 -
A bit dishearted here!
I was working on an app idea and building its admin panel in angular, node and firebase for database.
I was at the end of developing admin panel and the only thing remaining was data storage for images.
I thought Firebase Storage is solution for that but now after 2 days of endless searching I realize Firebase Storage is a joke and its just Google Cloud Storage which is not Free :/
I am a student and a passionate Android developer. But this is a huge hurdle in my way.
If anyone has a better idea of how to get this done then please help.
I just need free file hosting to upload images from my admin panel and then download from Android app.3 -
Working on a project for myself and to put in my portfolio. Talking about it with a (non coding) co-worker and discussing where I am in the project as I've been really excited about my progress since I'm working from scratches with no frameworks for the back-end(the only side I've worked on so far). I was talking about the registration page and getting ideas as to what I should let users put on their profiles and she chimes in, "This would actually be better as a mobile app. That would be much easier to use." Well yeah, probably, but I'm a web developer, not a mobile app developer. Plus making it a web app means users will be able to utilize it through any medium rather than just their mobile phone. I can (probably) make it responsive enough that users don't mind it being a web page rather than an app.
I'm still learning, I know PHP, Python and a little JavaScript, not really enough to build a mobile app. Yeah I'd love to make this an app, but then I gotta support multiple products across several hundred different devices in multiple languages and I'm just not ready for that. Let's get the back end finished and we can go from there.1 -
Will someone post a list of everything I should learn and in order.
I want to be a software engineer. I'm learning android app development now. And I'm a complete beginner. I also want to be a full stack developer. Also what's the difference between software engineer and developer? Which languages should I learn?6 -
This is a legit rant.
What would you ask in a written/online test if you are hiring a mobile app developer, specifically android?
I'll tell you guys what I was asked after I get 10 comments sharing the community's views, so that I don't make a fool of myself.5 -

I hate react, ok it is now a knows thing about me...
But i have to maintain a huuuuge app made on react.
And the old developer mixed the nodejs backend with the frontend... And it is already a russian doll mess in components, cuz he seems to develop it during 2 years and only after one year he discovered redux !
Gosh... For a lil simple feature there is so many files involved... Gonna go crazy !
Happy that at least client pay big money for that1 -
Not only does every app need to have an export option, but new exports must create new, time-stamped files rather than overwriting an existing export!
A counter-example is "Battery Monitor Widget" by CCC71 or 3C71. That app creates a file in the main user directory, named "bmw_history.txt" (no relation to the car manufacturer).
When a new export is created, the existing bmw_history.txt is overwritten. This could lead to data loss if the user is unaware of this behaviour.
The developer thought of creating an export ability, but messed up at the file naming process.
Mandatory time-stamped user data exports for every app would not be so bad. This makes sure no developer would forget about it. GDPR gave us data portability for social media platforms. Let's do it for apps too. (Sorry, Samsung Internet, you can no longer lock in saved pages. Your users are sick of it.) -
Guys I’m mobile app developer , I know my way around objective-C, swift and java , now I Wanna learn a new language just to expand my horizon , any suggestions ? I’m thinking of python 🤔3
-
I got a report of a relatively simple WinForms app created by a senior (!!) developer who left just as it was released taking 3 minutes to load.
Step through it.. Narrow it down to one stored procedure.
Open said query, every join is a left join.
None needed to be a left join.
Change them all to inners, app now loads in 5 seconds.
Left Joins: For when people can't be assed to learn SQL basics. -
I just got to college and can do web dev fairly well (Mern stack mostly). But tbh I am now more interested in being an app developer. Should I try to learn React Native/Flutter or Kotlin/Swiftquestion kotlin java android kotlin google app development ios development android development app swift apple3

Progressive Web apps :
In chrome you can use <6% of the free memory to store things.
Now imagine this situation :
Let's assume you have x amount of free memory in the system.
For first application : 0.06x
For second app : 0.06(x-0.06x)
And it goes on.
So for the thousandth developer,
It's a total fuckall.
How is this helping developers! -
Hi there Devs and ranters, I'm new to devrant (well I've have the app for about 20 days and just read about stuff)
So, I just recently discovered that I want to Develop web and mobile apps, before this I was studying to be a Project manager..
In the past I would usually come app with great app ideas and would just think "why hasn't anyone made this yet" then I'd let it go.
But then one day last year an amazing idea for an app hit me for a huge organisation in my country and I figured I could probably get paid for this, but yet again I was too fucking shallow to realise that I should've made it myself.
So I took my app idea and carelessly shared it with a developer who then decided to create the app and not include me at all, he just said "im gonna let you know when it's done", stupid me just agreed to that. Time went by and I never heard anything from the guy, tried to call but he wouldn't pick up, went to his place and he already moved out.
At this point I already gave up on looking for him.
A few weeks later I'm on the playstore browsing for apps and there it was, my fucking app. I decide to download it and inside every fucking thing was exactly as I told the developer, all the functions and options that would be for that app were all in there.
I was a little mad, but after staying with the app for a few days I noticed that it didn't work at all, there were no notifications, no interaction nothing, it's just like a static app, then I was really just disappointed,..
This was about 2 months ago,
Since then I have come up with a lot of other great app ideas and I decided to start learning to code so I can develop my own mobile and web apps..
And just last week I had an idea for an app for the Univ that I graduated at, spoke to the director about it and he wants a full presentation in a month.
So Devs, don't be the guy in the story that doesn't involve the person that gave you an awesome idea, also don't be me in the story because I was a stupid lil shit for not realising what I wanted to do sooner!1 -
For Apple hardware, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, iOS app development is the most common way of making mobile applications . The software is written in the Swift programming language or Objective-C and then submitted to the App Store for users to download.
In case you're a mobile application developer, you might have had second thoughts about iOS improvement. Every designer needs a Mac PC— Macs are more costly than their Windows-based partners. Moreover, when you complete your application, it faces a tough quality survey measure before it gets circulated through the App Store.1 -
just has a discussion with a web developer didn't go well
we have to make a site. server side and client side has to be implemented it has realtime data also
Now his solution was aws + Python script for sever and a client web app that will show the data
i suggested firbase for server and client web app , cause it will be cheaper for us
he said that its more work for him to do firebase and application cost will be high
i am my self a developer ( worked on Android , web , but mostly microcontroller and hardware)
i don't understand cause from what
i see firebase is straightforward
am i wrong ?2 -
One very important thing.
Just thought about getting a supporter today. Clicked the button on my Android, and then stopped back.
As app developer I know, there is a 30-40% fee according to the platform for selling this.
Then I tried on the webpage, my thought behind was, your getting the full money. No possiblity there.
Is that because of tax reasons? I would be glad to support you.10 -
So it's been 4 months and my struggles with Power bi continues. The .net developer I once remains only a bleak memory.
So yesterday the client thought about securing reports, I appreciate the step and suggested embedding them in SharePoint Web parts and securing the access from the desktop app. The client wasn't thrilled with my suggestion as his clients might not have SharePoint, valid point. Instead he wants me to create a small web app with a login page to share the public web url of the reports.
He can't trust client by giving them direct urls but will trust them to login first and then have the url....1 -
I'm no iOS developer, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I was told a particular app I'm looking to make an Android version for was built in objective-C and uses Ruby and AWS for the backend. so presumably I'd need to plug into AWS for my app,im just not sure how Ruby fits in...2

Long time no rant.
Spent the last two days trying to figure out why a legacy app that I adopted (was a surprise considering I'm a database developer not c#).
Long story short horrendous view causing issues retrieving data in an app that is slow enough as it is.
I may have suggested starting a proper product roadmap and using sprint's etc for managing development of said app. And the boss agreed, currently the process is someone asks for a feature and we drop everything and develop it so things get forgotten/pushed to the back of the queue.
So to cut to the chase, can anyone suggest any places I can read up about managing this properly? -
They're needs apple developer account for upload their app, ok create iCloud account and pay the membership, they're not happy with the name of the developer change to other name, but apple don't accept random names for their developer account only accept a person or a legal business 😅

Hello everyone
I'm Android Developer, I want to create app related fashion and clothing. So I want to draw pants or shits with the given measurement of user in android. How can I do thag? Please help.
Thanks. Take care7 -
Hey, giving you guys a little context about me. Did my engg in cs and in my whole 4 yrs of college Ive been doing competitive programming and focused more on these coding competitions that any personal project or exploring new tech.
Then had a campus placement and started working as a app developer and ever since(4 years) I've been working as app developer.
I started learning about backend development, really loved it way more than app development. Internally in my organisation I started working on both app development and backend now.
But now I think should I try exploring other division of tech. I roughly divide it into 3 parts Devs, embedded system and ML. I really want to explore embedded system and ML. But I'm little confused whether I should do that or not. Will this affect my career in bad way??
So should I consider adding embedded system or ML in my portfolio??? Or it's too late and not a good idea as a developer.1 -
Obviously I'm just now beginning to learn, criticism not appreciated, lol.. Can anyone tell me like.. How to ACTUALLY edit github files in android studio???! Ive tried importing, copying and pasting the code, idk what to do maybe I'm just dumb who knows.. But I cannot for the life of me seem to get any of the code from github files to actually run once it's imported..6

What is the best way to install iOS app for employees in a company?
Disclaimer, I'm no iOS developer.
In 2019 my boss asked if I could make a small iOS app. 3 forms which will have CRUD operations. I did it because I wanted to learn iOS development. The company got an Apple Developer Account and it finished the project within the week. The app can be used only from work's wifi, so if you try to use it outside that network will not work.
The issue is license. When I install the app from my XCode to one of the employees' iPhone, the app will work for 1 year (if I have paid for Developer Account). Also every time I make an update, the employee have to come to me with the iPhone and I have to install it directly.
Yesterday I submitted the app for Testing using TestFlight. The app updates automatically, but today I got notification that the "Submission for testing is rejected", because the tester could not connect with the server.
My question is, How do you install iOS apps for your work employees? I do not want to get Enterprise account because that will cost.5 -

Hey guys, so i'm just about to complete my android application project which I started a year ago.
You can say it's sort of my baby. I've put all my efforts into it. The backend is almost done. The problem which i'm struggling with is the front end.
The front end of my app looks like shit. I tried to do everything to make it look elegant and classy, but all in vain.
And I can't afford to hire a front end developer or graphic designer. Can someone suggest me what to do.
I'm open to any suggestions as it's the first app i'll upload on the play store, I just want it to be perfect.26 -
does anyone hate material you?
god damn, it seems so fucking stupid. i don’t want a color scheme on every single app i have. i like, from an app developer and app user’s standpoint, that i can recognize an app by its colors. colors are part of an app’s identity. why not just give users raw access to the apis that apps use. i mean, every messaging app is going to look the same now, every browser and every app that has a similar ui to another.5 -
Hey iOS devs 👋🏻 have you ever released an app internally without the Apple developer program? 🤔I need an alternative and I hope you can help me please3

I want to get notified when my order is arrived, but not the gazilion promos and discount bullshit.
Can we solve this as developer? Like giving an app the notification permission only for some time when we have an order.1 -
I want to be a full stack developer already but here I am stuck learning java very slowly... How long will it take to become a full stack developer with mobile app dev skills?

Any other fans of Espresso for macOS? Love the app, hate how the developer abandons and then rewrites it on a 3-year cycle 😄

Optics matter. You could be doing a shit job (as a developer), but if you keep up the good optics with the boss, agreeing to build a calculus app in the future, even though the multiplication api you are currently working on keeps throwing error, you'll look good.2

Is Kotlin the new hype? Should I go for java 8 or kotlin for development of android app? Also does anyone know any good course for ui/ux development(I am a backend developer)

Help me make the decision for taking mobile app development services
I need some serious help in making the right decision for taking the mobile app development services. I have all the plans ready to get the mobile app developed for both the android and iPhone users, but I am not sure whether I should I hire a mobile app development company (https://mobiledevelopmentcompany.app/...)or should I hire a freelance mobile app developer to get the services. I want the application to be in good quality and should be developed in minimum time. What do you suggest I should do? Kindly share your views in the comments section. I will be waiting for your opinions.2 -
Hey guys,
are there any style guides for app development out there? As a backend developer I do not have much experience on how to position UI elements so that it looks harmonic and natural. So what I am looking for is basically some sort of a "best practices book", with design/UI problems and possible solutions to it. Can you guys recommend anything?4
