I think the most annoying thing of being a programmer is to accidentally press ctrl + s on a browser because of having been saving so much35

My local ISP was saving their database backups in an unprotected folder which was literally domain.com/backups
When I downloaded it contained thousands of their clients data.
Reported it to them and got 2 years of internet/tv services for free.
They wanted to hire me but I was still studying in my first year of uni in another city.7 -
People complaining "oh I always have trouble figuring out if the clock goes forwards or backwards in October"
Bitch please, I'm dealing with 12 databases, with SQL dates as local timezone timestamps, and an influxDB in UTC. I'm dealing with a backend server configured in CEST and a middleware layer configured in Pacific time, and a hundred functions which try to keep everything straight because no one dares to migrate it all to UTC at this point.
In the whole argument about DST you hear about sleep psychology, electricity bills and farmers.
But what about me, the poor database administrator? What about all these ugly legacy systems, what about all the UX designers trying to fix time input pickers?
I spend 2 months a year in agony having nightmares of rips and folds in the flow of time. DAYLIGHT SAVING DOESN'T FUCKING MAKE SENSE HOW CAN TIME EXIST TWICE?19 -
Does anyone else save their work almost after every change that when you switch to a web browser you hit Ctrl + S to save? XP6

PHP sucks balls,
It takes forever to do anything, it is so messy it feels like walking through a massive pile of shit!
Ok good I have your attention and that ++ 😇
But no this is not that kind of rant, quite the opposite.
In 70 lines of php shit as some people would call it, I am currently scrapping GitHub pages with ebook collections and with some minor regex pulling PDFs out and saving them to file.29 -
Had to wirte and optimize a C++ program that finds for 1000x1000x1000 grid points the 100 nearest points for each (with an additional factor to make it more complicated).
It had to run in under 18 minutes to pass. No matter what I did I couldn't get it fast enough. I tried kd-trees, caching of certain points, optimizing distamce calculations by ommiting any irrelevant factor, saving points' calculated squares etc etc. When Ibwas down to 20 minutes, I realized, that my makefile had an error and ignored the - O3 flag...
Well, it actually ran 5 minutes with -O3.10 -
Going to have to do multiple rants on this one as I've had three awesome teachers.
Number one: Linux teacher.
He was around his 40's to mid 40's I think and he loved talking to people who also had the same passion (linux) about it.
When we had Linux classes which everyone hated, he'd always let me free. He knew I'd be able to finish the 10 weeks' assignments within an hour or so (took me half an hour instead of 10 lessons) so he just said: go do whatever you want.
Aaaaand instead of doing my own thing I ended up saving the whole class.
Yeah he was a very open minded guy who was awesome with linux/the students.10 -
The main reason I'll stick to development as a career for the rest of my life is the freedom.
I can have a 3 hour long lunch with my girlfriend, I can write code at 2am, and usually I can leave for short holidays with just a few days notice.
That freedom is saving the little bits of social life I have.10 -
Agreed with a guy on a price for a second hand laptop-tablet. Finally on my way (NS, go drown in an ocean of infected cum) but I'd be very late.
Guy offers to come to the station (saving me more than an hour of travel time)!
This one SHOULD be Linux compatible 😅12 -
Hi ceo_candidate:
Welcome to CEO 101:
Q: How do you impress shareholders?
A: Without understading any processes, I cut down half of the IT team, saving a few 100k a year. Adding stress to the remaining team that now has to maintain lots of extra stuff. But, who cares? I still will expect my deliverables on time.
That is correct!

Rants about how big jQuery is (83 KB), misses project deadline trying to write efficient JS to "optimize" load time, eventually ends up saving 2 KBs.

Me:(kills the CTRL +S buttons saving something)
Boss: what are you doing ?
Me: nothing much, saving a document.
Boss: is that the best way to save it?
Me: no, it got saved the very first time, the rest is to convince my heart I saved it.
Boss: ... ... ... fair enough.5 -
I spent all my saving on a new PC... I wanted the stickers... But no rant of mine gets enough upvotes :/6

Once, at college I asked my computer science teacher that why don't you use Linux 🐧?.
And guess what he said his reply was "I don't use pirated softwares so I'm saving money to buy Linux OS " and after listening this I was really about to die of laughing 😂😂.
Like literally how can someone be such a dumb and especially a computer science teacher.
After this he asked me to get out of the class and I thanked God as it's better to stay out of such a class with such a dumb teacher. 😂😂12 -
Old boy said to put my brother's old laptop to use for him because Windows is too slow. He just wants basic usage like news and checking his favorite sites. So, you know there's only one way to take care of this...install Ubuntu. He tried it, loved and now doing full install for him. Ubuntu saving old computers since..well since forever 😁7

Colleague started a slack channel for our team, management wanted nothing to do with it. We used it to work and have a bit of fun.
Some push / drive came form somewhere and now all the managers are on it. Yesterday I was told my screenshot and "snarky comment" are not appropriate for the workplace and to delete my slack message.
My comment was a joke about about a new app the company has to use "to increase efficiency" that broke and wouldn't let me do what I needed. It wasn't offensive, demeaning, sexist to anyone or even contain any bad language.
How petty and childish to be monitoring a private channel making sure everything is positive. We all joked that from now on our meme's must be about how awesome the company is and how much time we are saving on a daily basis.
God forbid we're allowed to speak honestly and openly or have a bit of fun.8 -
The company i work for has a jenkins server (for people that don't know jenkins, it's an automated build service that gets the latest git updates, pulls them and then builds, tests and deploys it)
Because it builds the software, people were scared to update it so we were running version 1.x for a long time, even when an exploit was found... Ooh boy did they learn from that...
The jenkins server had a hidden crypto miner running for about 5 days...
I don't know why we don't have detectors for that stuff... (like cpu load being high for 15 minutes)
I even tried to strengthen our security... You know basic stuff LIKE NOT SAVING PASSWORDS TO A GOOGLE SPREADSHEET! 😠
But they shoved it asside because they didn't have time... I tried multiple times but in the end i just gave up...13 -

Android, you fucking cunt!
Battery saving, yes it's an important thing. So first you want applications to display a big-ass notification when they're running in the background. Fair enough, it can be hidden away by the user if they want to.
But now there's a big-ass notification and the applications STILL get force closed?!! If I'm browsing Tor and I have Orbot running, don't you think that I might want to KEEP IT RUNNING?!! Or better yet, if I'm connected to my VPN server and the application is actively using the VPNService API, DON'T YOU THINK THAT THAT SHOULDN'T BE CLOSED?!!!
But yeah, ARTIFICIAL FUCKING INTELLIGENCE is doing some leety-ass fucking battery saving. MY FUCKING ASS CAN DO BETTER BATTERY SAVING!!!15 -
Drawbacks of using Linux and Windows side by side?
While using Visual studio I keep typing ESC :w for saving and then on Vim I keep pressing Ctrl + s.
Urghhhhh!!!4 -
Guy A : so I had to downloaded the one you sent ...
Guy B : wait you what
Guy A : I downloaded the file you sent
Guy B : you didn't need to download, you just had to save it
Guy A : NO, I had to download, if not it will cost my mobile bill
Guy B : NO, saving it won't cost any
And here I am : (屮゜Д゜)屮3 -
FINALLY! The European Comission is thinking of getting rid of daylight saving! I am so looking forward to this.15

I just deleted 3.5TB of junk data from S3, effectively saving my company about 88 dollars.

naked developer day:

*receives an old business laptop as payment for refurbishing another one*
Hmm, this thing doesn't have a charger with it.. looks like it's taking 18.5V.. my HP laptop's charger supplies that but its barrel connector doesn't fit 🤔
Regular users: oh dear now I have to buy a charger with a fitting connector for this.. where do I even start?!
Me: Well I guess I could just remove the charging port and solder some wires straight into the board instead 🤔
But that voltage.. my HP laptop's charger is still in use and I don't really want to fuck around with that one.
Regular users: oh dear oh dear, shouldn't I just throw this laptop away?
Me: well I guess that I could just use one of the rails of my upgraded lab bench power supply for it?
Lab electronics saving the day, every day, time and time again.. fuck yeah 😎6 -
The joy of using Kotlin instead of Java :')
Though if I'm not mistaken they produce almost same out put :\ but writing kotlin is just time saving IMO22 -
Updated linux-next again.
Got another 2 FPS boost.
AMD is optimizing the shit out of their open-source drivers. And as i see in mailing list we will get BACO on pre-VEGA GPUs. (Bus Active Chip Off) = power saving feature.
Basically means much better battery life for me HEHE.
It got conflicts with linux-next and im not in the mood to fix those just for that.
But anyways AMD is making 5.5 another great release. -
I am getting better and better. I no longer leave ":w" at random places in Google Docs... Now I'm just "cmd-s"-ing regularly.6
-
There’s nothing like opening a legacy system you didn’t build and has for some reason lasted the turn of the century, only to add a new feature without breaking anything.....
Would have been nice if I had written that JS function before saving the other file 🙄
There’s nothing like building in production 💩 -
Some lunatic apparently created a package and named it "django-restframework" (notice the hyphen?) and not the conventional, popular "djangorestframework" that we all know and love.
I made a mistake to install the former and after installing with pip and saving in my requirements.txt file it read "django-restframework==0.0.1"
I looked at the version number and initially thought "hmm, well that's odd" but didn't pay much attention to it cos I was trying to get started really quickly.
Long story short, I just spent the past hour trying to understand why I was getting a ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'rest_framework' whenever I tried to execute my project.
🙂 thank you lunatic4 -
There's only one pro for this whole day light saving thing when you live in a country which doesn't do daylight saving:
You'll appreciate it better when it's over :-/
As if 10 PM meetings was not bad enough, now it's going to be at 11PM for the next 6 months 😭3 -
Areally appreciate this "blackest black" theme. It's definitely gonna help devRant not drain my battery so much as I'm surfing on my Galaxy S8 Plus with it's AMOLED display.
Yay for saving battery!13 -
One of the things I really hate on Windows (and Microsoft software in general) is that the keyboard shortcuts are localized therefore are different from 90% of the apps that I use on a daily basis.
Two examples of this (EN-US vs PT-PT):
- "Save" is "Gravar" while "Underline" is "Sublinhar". This means that whenever I press Ctrl + S to save a doc in MS Word I underline a word instead of saving the bloody document.
- "All" is "Tudo" so when I want to select all the itens on a folder in the File Explorer I have to press Ctrl + T, the same shortcut I press in pretty much every single tabbed app to open a new tab.
This is terrible for the user experience because different languages provide different keyboard shortcuts to the user which goes against the concept of the usefulness of a keyboard shortcut: perform an action from anywhere without having to know its menu or menu description.11 -
devRant collaboration project - a lot of us are thinking of doing a project or projects in the future. I am sure some valuable partnerships will be forged.
My desire is to do something that can make a positive impact in people's lives. Possibly to help people with special needs.
I am thinking about code that extends into the physical world - an Internet of Things project sort of a devThing.
Brainstorming a bit deeper - maybe a mashup of off the shelf components - maybe using Raspberry Pi or the $5 Raspberry Pi. Keep it low cost so everyone can afford it. As an aside CubeSats powered by RP's are being used in outer space saving a great deal of money and providing value.
The great thing is devRant has great coders, graphic design, ux, Raspberry Pi (or similar miniaturization), public relations to get the word out...
I have some examples we can use for inspiration. Let's keep building on this.40 -
So am I the only one here who is still saving up to buy the latest 15 inches macbook pro despite of all those cons?
How I wish dell xps can run Mac OS X. Meh 😩
Hhmm or should I buy dell xps and just install Ubuntu?20 -
So, I just found out a bunch of chrome processes running on the staging server. Very weird, as the server doesn't even have a DE installed, why would someone need chrome running.
Then found out that somebody was spawning chrome headless mode, going to the API url, and saving the page as pdf (calling it generating report)
-_- Very very innovative, So instead of generating the report on the server side and be done with just a single API call, one has to launch a web browser, then GO TO THE DAMN API URL, SAVE PAGE AS PDF.3 -
The recent post on being obsessive with "CTRL+S" reminded me...
Be careful if the file was shared with you via Dropbox.
I was doing this with an excel doc called "services by client" once and got this email...
----------------------------------------------
Subject: "services by client updated...." :-O
AAAAAHHHH OMG
Every time you hit save, I get a popup notification on my screen and its’ been going like once a second for an hour
Are you MANIC SAVING that excel sheet!??? Are you dealing from some past trauma of losing a document that you’ve worked really hard on!!!???
Lol … maybe copy the file outside of that folder a few minutes so I can continue my nap without this little “ding” going off :-P
----------------------------------------------
...all I had to say was WHO LEAVES DROPBOX POPUP NOTIFICATIONS ON anyway. Or mute your computer, lolz?1 -
Not exactly dev related but possible because of my job.
After an interesting and emotional change during the last 0.5years, I am still here in
Ireland.
My job is good, could be better but definitely the best I’ve had so far..
I’m only here because of my job, it wouldn’t have been possible (at least not as easily) if I wasn’t a software engineer.
One of my dreams I saved for for years in Switzerland finally became true with just saving 4 months over here because the government doesn’t take everything you have left at the end of the month.
I finally got an old Jap...
This is my 1997 Toyota MR2 I bought on Monday..
So happy..8 -
Hello there, I'm new here and decided to post something from my short experience as a developer.
A few weeks ago I was working on the software for a Uni project (using a Raspberry Pi to create a combination lock "safe"), and as I was using one of the University's Pi's, I was writing the Python code on my laptop (because University computers don't have Sublime Text), then copying it to the uni computer and ssh into the Pi to run it.
As I had to make a few changes, I decided to use IDLE on the uni computer to do them, but when trying to run the code I couldn't see the changes made. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what's wrong and then I realised... I was saving the changes to the local machine, not the version of the file on the Pi.
It was a very frustrating experience..6 -
Client from a big company requested that all sensible data should be encrypted, passwords included.
We agreed that was OK, and that we were already saving the hashes for the passwords.
The reply was "Hashes should be encrypted too"4 -
I managed to accidentally clear everybody's usernames and email addresses from an SQL table once. I only recovered it because a few seconds before, I'd opened a tab with all the user data displayed as an HTML table. I quickly copied it into Excel, then a text editor (saving multiple times!), then managed to write a set of queries to paste it all back in place. If I'd refreshed the tab it would have all gone!2

Oh fuck... OH FUCKING FUCK OF FUCKS!
So, I made an interview and recorded it with Audacity...
Stupid me only stopped the recording and closed it...
WITHOUT SAVING! I DIDNT FUCKING SAVE THE FUCKING RECORDING! FUCK!
I DIDNT SAVE HALF AN HOUR OF AUDIO! HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN! IT DIDNT EVEN ASK ME TO FUCKING SAVE IT!
or was it??
FUCK NOW IM PARANOID!14 -
Me: Return data from Firebase into unity project
Firebase: Returns data as object

I should be saving money as a student. Wait, let me just buy that domain name real quick for my new project first.3

Those weeks when you get calls from recruiters offering you up to four times your current salary.
I enjoy my job, love the atmosphere, team spirit, freedom (although sometimes there's a bit too much of this!), but I have a family and am saving to extend our house.
I don't want to let my team down, I'm the only programmer dev in a team of 3 (others do front end web design but not much JS), but sometimes I wonder if I should pursue one of these better offers...5 -
10 yrs of saving for this new build. Ryzen 5 2600, AMD RX 5500xt, 32GB DDR3-3000, all in a case built like a fucking tank. So many payouts coming in all at once... did my luck really flip?20
-
I'm a student, so this isn't exactly the same.
I once created a Flask application for some coursework. It was basically an Instagram clone. Anyway, when it came to handling images and saving them, I used an import called ImageMagick. Now the issue is, it had to run in Levinux (which is shit). The problem was that ImageMagick was a Debian, and Levinux only used TCZ (Tiny Core Extension or something,) so I spent a literal three days trying to convert the library into a .tcz, only to find out that Flask's built in image manager worked perfectly and reduced my code by about 25%.4 -
Being a programmer for a while now it always irritates me to try to explain what I'm working on to friends and family. I forget what I knew before I developed. I'm always like "I made the strings in the database- oh I mean the words...well they're actually more like strings of letters- well anyway I made a code to sanitize the user input- I mean make it so it is secure before uhhh saving." I spend so much time watering what I'm saying down I forget what I'm talking about
It's not even funny. It'd be funny if one single person in my family or friend group understood what I meant to some degree.3 -
So I need to "fix" a false-positive security warning (mass-assignment of a foreign key). Do I "fix" it by...
A) Setting it manually and double-saving the object?
B) Rewriting the mass-assignment so the linter doesn't realize what I'm doing?
Both options suck.
But security is going to complain if I don't do it.
Guess what?
I'm not doing it.
SMD you ducks.10 -
I attended a 2-days scientific conference last week which lasted from 9 AM-7 PM.
I submit my travel expenses today and the university adm got guts to tell me that
I should commute 6 hours everyday to that place instead of staying in a hotel.
Please people, I contribute making our research and name renown to the public. I don't even get paid doing that (did it for the sake of experience).
The least you can do is to support the accomodation. The penny pinching you did in the name of cost saving is embarrasing.
I didn't like every hour spent working in the uni, yet people still ask me why I won't continue to PhD.
No offence to all PhDs out there. It's just that my practical and money-oriented ass couldn't
stand all the free work I have to do if I do that.
I'd rather work in a supermarket, at least I'm getting paid of what I'm worth.
😕7 -
Found this on Quora today :
Programming isn't sexy at all. In a club, try picking up a girl by telling her your heroic tale of saving an entire department by rewriting a recursive function to take advantage of a feature in the new server Intel chips to scale up their online orders.
Then tell me how it goes.5 -
Worst hypothetical Dev job... hmm 🤔 well I think I have the right scenario for you. A medical company stores patient charts and critical life saving information in a database. This database makes medical decisions for lifesaving incubators and if there’s a bug it means 10,000 newborn sick babies will die because of your fuck up (oh and you’re criminally liable too so good luck!). But beyond the high pressure job that sounds at least somewhat normal, the database is written in a special form of assembly for a custom undocumented CPU where only one copy in the world exists so all tests and development are on production. Google and StackOverflow is banned so your only resource is your brain. Good luck🍀10

Theres a debate in my company about whether or not to be using RxSwift on iOS apps. I'm not 100% convinced. Today we had two submissions for a coding challenge come in. One uses nearly all the same Rx modules this company does, one was vanilla Swift.
Just by chance noticed the vanilla app writer contributed ~5k lines of code to the challenge overall. Including libraries, the Rx one contributed ~45k.
That to me is just bat shit crazy. It would want to be the most amazing, time saving, bug reducing thing the world has ever seen to justify that volume of code.4 -
My worst bad practice:
Saving my Linux Root SSH Keys on a Cloud Storage company.
Have them there, so I wont loose them ever. I password protected them, but you never know what the NSA/FBI/CIA can do 😉2 -
Signed up for a driving class...
This is what i get in the mail shortly after.
Fucking fantastic guys! Saving passwords plaintext. Is it because of the government?16 -
The first program that was used at a company.
I wrote it on suggestion of my father to help with simplifying calculations for rental machines at his work and once finished it reduced time from start to finished report from 2-3 days down to 30 minutes, and corrections could be done in minutes instead of starting all over.
It also featured saving and loading old reports.
And for context, this was 1987 and excel did not exist and existing spreadsheets was not nearly as easy to use.6 -
Well I'm a first year student in computer science and in the first semester we started to learn C language and the IDE they told us to use for better learning was Devcpp.
We made a few small projects and all went well, but now in the second semester we started to make bigger projects with linked lists and memory allocation and Devcpp starts to be a complete bug itself... We are working hard in the project and after saving the project with no errors at all, at the next day, Devcpp starts to make any function we made invalid...
So we spoke to the same teacher about this and asked what can we do about it....
"Are you using Devcpp? You shouldn't, it is not that good for C"...
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?14 -
I need to post a laziest thing, because I sodding mistagged a completely unrelated rant.
About 20 years ago (!) we needed a couple of big primes to set up asymmetric encryption for some sort of verification/signing whatsit in this game we were developing. How do you generate big primes?
Well, there was this fairly new thing called openssl, which was open source, and _it_ had to have the facility to find large primes for RSA key generation. Half an hour of hacking at the openssl source code gave us a prime generator, saving us from writing one from first principles.
For context, our high score security consisted of simply xoring the data with a secret. The secret was one byte long.3 -
Saving my devrant stickers for when I buy a new laptop. The one I'm using right now is not worthy.3

Personally I am starting to think that any development tools, resources and sites should not be allowed to use marketing dribble.
It should go
-> Land on home page
-> Hi, we are a realtime database cloud host
-> no you cannot host it yourself
-> here is code to speak to our servers
-> here is the cost
->now take it or go.
Something like that, and not
We provide clients with the leading cloud and hosted data solutions that can scale vertically and horizontally on and offline data management keeping people connected and saving kittens.
Fuck you show me one kitten you saved? Lying pieces of shit that do not want to just say hey this is what we have , this is ours, it may not be much but it is what we believe in and if you would like to use it here is how , thank you now move the fuck along our server can't handle so many concurrent connections.3 -
First week in the job and I was told to update an intranet page. Opened it in notepad, made the change and saved it.
Turned out it was a SharePoint site and saving it in notepad broke all the links and turned it into a static page. Even worse, it was the homepage of the intranet.
I blame lack of training and, in hindsight, how awful SharePoint is.
Anyway, at least we successfully tested the backup process...1 -
The story of how I stumbled onto devrant:
Not long ago I was struggling with visual studio and did not know what to think, do or say. The only thing I wanted to do was scream while I banged my laptop against the wall. Just before doing that I googled "fuck Vs fuck Microsoft" and I was introduced to devrant. Something about reading the rqnts of frustrated developers made me calm (It also made me laugh). So what I really want to say is: thank you devrant for saving my money.3 -
Haxk20 starts saving up for Ryzen 9 3950X.
Intel 9990KS is pretty much dead against 3950X.
Im not even joking. Like WAT ? HOW THE FUCK AMD ????????
TDP is lower. Temps are lower then 3900X and that has 4 lesser cores.
Sacrifice to get there ? NONE.
Its just huge voltage tuning that they did to get there.
Sure Intel still beats AMD in gaming in some games but you have to understand that not many games are optimized for AMD sadly. Many engines are just designed for Intel still.
But im sure this beast of an CPU is about to change that because even games are intel optimized the most FPS drop seen in game is 5FPS from 9990KS. Just WOW.
I really need start saving up as its 750$. Sure a lot for desktop CPU but its fucking 16 core and 32 threads beast at 4.7Ghz.
Sure im AMD fan all the way but you must agree that what they did here is just beyond fucking amazing. And if Intel doesnt go 7nm very soon they are going to be in BIG trouble because AMD is surely just few steps from 5nm at which point intel is just F up.10 -
Wait... so every single time I make an app, I'm technically saving $10,000+ ?
https://medium.com/swlh/...7 -
What are you all planning on getting on Black Friday/Cyber Monday? I've pinched pennies all year and saved up just enough to only be able to afford 35% or so of the cost of being beaten in a local dark alley. That's not even what I wanted, but still.16

Eeeeh... Thanks for saving me Gimp XD
(says that I am trying to create an image that will be 155,8GB)
I just casually squared one equation by entering the final value into both width and height values, oops :D13 -
Oh, a big "Learn More" button on the hero of your webpage. Let me click that. Oh, it slightly scrolls down to the bottom. I didn't expect that. Thanks for saving me some mousewheel flings. I appreciate it. Really.

Client from hell, next chapter.
As money comes in, project won't be canceled.
Only madness comes for free.
Newest insanity.... We had to explain that in a warehouse system a unique article number as an identifier is a must.... This discussion took 20 minutes.
The reason? Saving 2 secs as they don't have to enter the supplier item number....
Their plan?
Article Number can be...
Integer, automatically assigned
String, Supplier Name and Supplier Item Number seperated by a delimiter....
The argument that stopped this insanity... Costs.
We argued that if we are forced to implement something which we believe will be a high costs, no value, nonsense feature we won't do the necessary migration and programming after reversal as in 'find someone else who unbreaks this insanity'...
Did they understand that a warehouse system without article number for reference is dumb? Nope.1 -
NOT saving the world in 2019. I already did that in 2012 when the Maya calendar ended and wasn't being thanked - on the contrary, people said "haha look, nothing happened".2

Opening a new file for notes and keeping it open without saving. I will just add things to it until it's HUGE. Then i have to go through it...3

Accepted a feature request that practically doubled the workload without asking for more money, on account of trying to be fair to a customer who was working through a translator.
Only to get stiffed on 3/4 of the money agreed to in the first place.
Only saving grace was everything was on my servers, so I took him down for non-payment.1 -
I don't get all the "Can't exit vim" jokes.
IT'S NOT THAT HARD!
Its (esc) : wq to save and exit
And
(esc) : q! to exit without saving.
Just read vimtutor.

been playing with IBM watson for a while so i can assure you that you don't need to worry about Skynet.
Update: just saw google deep mind, we better start saving food.3 -
I spent hours figuring out why my html5 video autoplay didn't work on Android. I muted it like they said, I tried many different ways to play it, even with a 3rd party video player, nothing worked. It's actually because my Google Chrome was on data-saving mode. Motherfuck.2

Never buy crappy, consumer-grade SSDs for use in production servers/RAIDs. This might sound obvious but at the company I used to work for, through a series of bad decisions by management and cheapness, we ended up with the cheapest consumer SSDs you can imagine powering all of our storage.
This turned into a nightmare spanning years of failed hard drives and a continues cycle of ridiculousness. Drive failed after a few days, gets taken out, sent back to manufacturer and then replaced with another equally crappy drive destined to fail within days/weeks.
Our ops people were going to the data center multiple times per week to replace failed drives. Lesson I learned: cheaping out on system-critical hardware and software can have long standing consequences and in the end usually doesn't end up actually saving money when you account for time employees have to spend dealing with issues that result from it. -
Everyone come and brutally fuck and kill me for today I have sinned.
My SO asked me to buy a durian cake and I did. I am saving myself from taking a cab since the locations are a bit far off. So yeah 😥

I love one particular old game. It's called Port Royale (the first one). Why? Because the game crashes a lot. Players know that, devs knew that. It's so old and unknown to people who haven't played that devs don't even fix it. But, but... why do you write it here?
This game tought me autosaving! Yeah, they have autosaving in [5, 10, 15] minute intervals, but the game is so fast, that even a little change you do will cripple your whole economy. Not to mention the saving mechanism is partially broken (or that's what the log says, fml). By broken I mean it tries to autosave, but sometimes it crashes the whole thing, just because it can. A game with special effects - crashing in _intervals_!
Because of this lovely game I have a habit of saving and staging (or even commiting). Maybe they should be proud for making such a bug. Saved me once again a minute ago when I managed to crash Emacs with Python. :D1 -

Internet: also heres some of the programming theory books you wanted on sale!

Why must saving money be so bloody hard when everything you've wanted just pops up .-.3 -
Find out the company hiring and apply directly to the company. Don't go through a 3rd party agency if you can avoid it. It gives the company a massive saving and a great incentive to hire you.1

Thanks to everyone as sometime back I opened up about my gambling addiction. It has been 30 days and I haven’t played but other thing is still hurting me that I lost around my half of saving. Which is continuously hurting me everyday. I am looking for part time project to recover my saving . I am Python backend and angular front end full stack developer. Any lead will be big help.1

Holy duck, I lost two days on a convolutional autoencoder splitted in two separate neural networks to encode and decode separately, it reconstruction had some strange behaviours. I was giving as input an image and then saving the encoded compressed representation in a new image, in this way I could decode it with the decoder whenever I want saving space.
How much retarded am I?
The internal layer's weights hadn't constraints so in learning phase the convolutional filters can contain any number, positive > 255 or even negative and I cannot save it in a new image as they are so they were clipped automatically between 0 and 255 with an huge information loss.
It's so frustrating when you rewrite the code in any possible way, you obtain the same wrong result and then you realize that was a borderline behaviour of a third part library.undefined convolution dimensionality reduction rbg autoencoder machine learning 255 neural networks image processing1 -
A lot of devs I meet are pretty cool but a handful, including some on here, seem to think the world revolves around them and they deserve to have the ground dusted off in front of them.
That's fucking narcissistic and you need a reality check if you're like that. It's great you're passionate about your knowledge but you're not out here taking down terries and saving children from burning buildings, like calm down with the self righteousness
Just had to get that out after one too many "how dare anyone looketh unto me unless I request it in advance" posts. Like chill out, you're not that special 🙄14 -

At one point, my laptop's hard drive went down. Turns out, windows had written some garbage data to the mft, and fucked up the file structure. Luckily i was able to restore a big chunk of the data using recuva. I cleaned the disk after saving the most important files, cleaned the disk, reinstalled windows. All good so far. I put the laptop's drive and my recovery disk into my desktop to put back the files. During the install in forced me to make an account, which I wanted to delete. So I ran "rmdir /users /s" and went to grab a cup of coffee. Turns out, cmd was pointed at my recovery disk instead of my laptop disk. My whole backup wiped.1

Why does the 'save image' feature in 'DevRant' Android App take so long? I mean it's just saving the image from ram to storage right.... also the image sizes are pretty small.
Okay just noticed they aren't getting saved anywhere...😅13 -
Fucking corporate bullshit. My laptop, when plugged in, has no need for power saving settings. I leave it plugged in with the screen locked, when I'm not at the office. But if I ever change any power settings, the corporate rootkit changes them back to unreasonable settings about once an hour. So I put this on a 300 second while loop.

There is this company that saves your information, before you have even registered.
If you merely fill in a field, they will save it to their database. Not even saving/submitting it, just filling it in.
So when you then visit their store, they already know stuff about you (if you gave enough unique identifiers, like phonenumber or email adress) and recommend stuff based on your browsing of their website5 -

Entirely my fault. I was getting frustrated that the CSS I had copied and pasted from an old project was not appearing properly. It just wouldn't work. Is anyone making more money than what they're spending, saving up and having time to spend on a side project/hobby?
I really like programming, but I also want to be able to do other things. It appears that it can be a job that can make one comfortable financially to be able to afford to do other things. Way better than working for McDonald's or some other job.
Is anyone doing this now? Or is everyone working all the time and always stressed??3 -

I don't know why is that everytime you guys find a security bug or a data leak or that someone is saving plain passwords on their database, you try to cover and censor the company name. Listen people, fuck the company and their name and their brand if someone's data might be in danger. Everybody should be aware of what is happening with their personal information.
Also, maybe would be great if devRant would let users to post anonymous rants for this kind of issues or a special thread with latest news about our online security.3 -

Looking for a second opinion/validation.
*Me: “Perhaps this simple and concise way to ensure the user doesn’t lose their data before they leave the page that requires non-zero yet minimal input from the user. (Read: ya gotta push a save/submit button)”
*Everyone else: Let’s pretend to read the user’s mind and perform relatively complicated functions behind the scenes, of which the user will most likely be unaware, that will add an undetermined amount of complexity to the development because we think it’s “where things are going,” by saving the value of a certain HTML element as it loses focus.
Edit: this is an exclusively-internally used app.4 -

Dev's argument: "We use this everywhere, as long as it gets the job done! Time is money!" How ironic..
So you would rather make your processing speed suffer for the sake of saving time? No, clean code doesn't matter. No, we should not waste time spending even a mere microsecond thinking about writing better code or at least consider it. No, we should just vomit out bad code at top speed. Good idea, guys. Global variables destroyed my day
Of course you can call me a bad programmer and all. When you have the idea, sometimes globals make it seem easy, accessible and "saving resources". They are devils.
The app was connected to a suite of applications. So I ended up silently destroying it neighbors. I committed and pushed the shit. Just when the testers made their weed high smoke tests, a server stopped working.
I got an email that boss wanted the latest version, I reverted the wrong branch, which had code unrelated to its name, pushed shit again and voila.
I went to the bathroom and laughed. I had to take a smoke. I'm still laughing while typing this. The damage is too much and I can't help it. I'll go home, leave this pc on and work remotely through the night. It might be the hysterics speaking now, but I messed up, and I need magic by friday morning.7 -
DAYLIGHT SAVING!!
Up to this point, I was indifferent to the issue if it should be kept or not. My sleep schedule is fucked and non-routine anyway so one hour plus or minus doesn't play any role.
I got to a meeting scheduling problem, when I have 2 timestamps in variable timezones and want to calculate time difference. Both can have DST active. There is no algortihmic way to figure out. I checked SO and pytz and it's just a list of hardcoded dates when DST starts and ends. WHATHTEHELL.jpg
Not only we should abolish the DST, we should force the whole world into UTC/Zulu. And those, who refuse to adapt to UTC, will be forced to work with plain integer epoch dates.3 -

I checked out this new hybrid app that was released by some local senior developers.
Turns out that on my user profile, my user ID is set as the value of a hidden field and changing it to any other user ID and saving the form will update the profile of that user. Including changing the password.
The password reset form also allows me to change the user ID to reset that user's password.
Speaking of passwords, the value of the password field on the profile is my actual password in plain text.
Yes, I said this app was released by a couple of "senior developers". One has over 15 years of experience and the other works at an IT company that builds online banking systems. They appear to have outsourced this side project to some other development team but... Come on. At least take one quick look at the source code before releasing it, why don't you?
I don't even...1 -

I feel for you guys,
My inbox is bombarded with emails asking me to give my permission for saving my data again, thanks to the new European data protection laws, which will go live the day after tomorrow.
Which means a lot of you guys are doing overtime today and tomorrow to work towards this deadline. Not me, though. Still. I want to share two sentiments with you:

2. I repeat my initial words, I feel for you. -

Okay so after a few days of thinking I think I'm sure about what I'm about to write :
Best : Discovering how to use streams while making a service that should extract a tar.gz, extract the tar.gz within it, filter the extracted files and correct some of them, then compress each folder as tar.gz and compress all the archives as .zip. It was on my first year of university. I had to develop an administrative system for a tattoo studio.
But practically the only I did was consulting to db and saving information 😅 and the girl who was the owner of the studio told me that using the system was a wasting of time. It was easier to her do those things handmade

The coolest project I ever worked on wasn't programming per second, though it involved a bit of scripting. The company I worked for had an FTP over TLS backup solution and it was put together with glue and paperclips by a guy that hadn't the slightest idea what he was doing. In order to conform with the insurance, data had to be encrypted. I setup a raid-ed server with full disk encryption on the raid volume that fetched the key over the network at boot from another secure server. I wrote a series of scripts for provisioning users and so on. The backup connections was sftp using a ssh tunnel, the users were chrooted to their own home directories, and were unable to open shells. The system was 100x more robust and secure than the original. I set it up on short notice and received absolutely no recognition for saving the company's ass, but it was definitely a fun project.1

How good was you saying that the backup function was? Maybe I should remember saving my work more often ...2

When the AudioAPI was new in browsers i did something like a virtual kaoss pad in js. With some touchscreen like thing for applying filters (looking and working like the kaoss one) and a sampler with multiple tracks to use and even the possibility to add own sound files into the sampler, recording your work, saving it as wav, ...
Actually sick thing.
But it was quite basic after all. Only two filters, no time correction (the samples got played back as you put them in, so if you are a millisec out of sync - it sounded shit)
Nonetheless I'm very proud of that thing.x) -
My latest project is going quite well, I think some of guys might like it! Basically it is a entirely new Fallout game with multiplayer aspects made in Unreal. Now most of you are saying "dude make textures is going to take years!" However I can extract models and textures from Fallout itself, saving time. Rant to myself: Don't try to be too smart, you dipshit!
3 weeks ago I packed 2 small changes in one commit, because I was sure (and obviuosly lazy) that no one will ever need these special changes separate.
Guess what happened today? Right, I had to make a change on an old version and needed the one half of this commit.
Cherry-picking ended up in changes I don't need and furthermore some nice collisions.
Thank you very much, past me, for saving 2 minutes 3 weeks ago, which now wastes half an hour. -
Everytime i buy any electronics , my brother would suggest me to buy latest ones with the newest configuration . His logic was " If you buy a not-so new tech now.. It will outdate fast and you will end up with an outdated one soon.. So the extra 10K is worth considering that " .
Considering the development trend i personally think it is useless to invest in electronics unless necessary . Everytime i buy an electronic product , within 2 or 3 months i find the same good at almost 75% of the price.. So with tech prices falling like this.. i think it is worth saving that money instead of the cutting edge tech which i wont need for another 2 years .
Thoughts ?
(The cousin brother i mentioned does this everytime he buys a phone and ends up changing the phone 4 times faster than me.. and the use case is similar to mine if not worse..)1 -

Soo question for the few embedded engineers on here. Do you guys use microchip’s, or NXP’s SDK for the hardware drivers? Or do you read the ref manual and build the HAL and PAL drivers per the need of the project for less code bloat and saving code space.
I and my coworkers always end up writing the drivers ourselves , so we have a better understanding of the specific hardware of the chip. Just trying to see if We’re the majority or the minority of embedded engineers.
Not really sure how many embedded folks are even on here.
And no not talking about RasPie, and arduino folks (no offense)8 -
Yo vim what the fuckin fuck.
I like vim, i try to use it as much as possible since i feel more confident with just using a keyboard BUT WHAT THE FUCK.
I am developing an application to improve my python skills and I chose vim to do so. I made some “big” changes today to it using vim. Every time i made a change that i had to test, i was saving it with :w and then running it on my second screen. All good until now.
Then i wanted to make a minor change using vscode because i thought it will be easier there. Anyway, i used :x, opened vscode AND MY CHANGES WERE REVERTED to the first condition my file was when I opened it today.
Vim is awesome, maybe it was all my bad, but how the hell did that even happen?2 -

My favourite bug fix was actually IT based and it was the first time my Eastern European, critical of my skills, family not only praised me but claimed that I was smarter than them.
My grandfather had changed from a telecom to a VOIP device for his landline. For some reason after installation, he could hear the other person on the line but they couldn't hear him. Me and my mother were away during this time so they called in the other family IT guy. This guy is no joke, he's one of the top in his company and makes a sweet six figures and lives in a mansion.
So he started looking things up, googling forum, etc. Couldn't find anything. Started calling the tech support and tried to deduce what it was and their tech support had never heard of such a problem. He takes his lunch breaks to help out my gramps. Keeps escalating, escalating and nothing. His conclusion is that they need to send him a new VoIP stick and they're not giving it to him. At this point, he's so frustrated that he screams at my grandfather to go back to paying 60 bucks a month for landline and to stop bothering him.
At this time me and my mother return and they have concluded that they need a new stick. My mom is great at intimidating people into free stuff so she and I go over to do so. At this point everyone is convinced of the problem and even I don't think I could fix it. But I decide to check if that's the case because I don't want my gramps to get a new stick and it still doesn't work.
I go through the typical forum hunting and there's Nada on the problem. I look at the stick and all the lights seem to be working, no error lights. And I wonder maybe the problem is not the stick, because usually you can't do anything at all if the hardware is broken. So I start thinking, maybe my gramps accidentally muted his handset while talking or something dumb like that. That wasn't it.
Then I decided to see if the problem was recreated on the other handsets. I tried one out and my mom could hear me but I couldn't hear her. What?! That's different! It was the opposite with the other phone. I conclude that it's working and there's something up with the handsets. So I go and do a reset on all of the handsets to make sure.
Lo and behold, the problem is fixed. It took me 25 minutes to solve. That guy gave up after a week of trying. My mom who assumed my IT skills were on par with other kids and nothing special had finally seen me up against an opponent, and not any opponent, a six figure high ranking IT specialist. And I didn't even use any secret, complex software knowledge that wasn't accessible to her or any other normal user.
That's when she finally said that I was smarter than her, that I just used my common sense. She would've needed some kind of prompting, hint or direction to solve the issue but I did it without any.
It was a very satisfying bug to fix. -

Okay, not the worst thing ever... but my laptop... It turns of the display after a while if no button is pressed. Normal, right? I have to press any key to wake it up.
But if I leave it for a while, then it goes into suspend mode. Now I have to press the power button to wake it up...
But if it has only turned the screen off, or in fact if it is running, the power button means suspend.
So, whenever I press the power button and it hasn't suspended yet, I see the screen flare to live just to watch it suspend.
And that's annoying. I will now rebind the suspend button, but I actually liked to quickly send it to suspend that way.6 -
Got a new job last year. Didn't want to be a contractor so they said contract to hire for what I thought was 6 months. When I get there, they said they meant a year. Fine. 18 months just passed and they renewed my contract for 3rd time without even mentioning full employment.

I'm injecting a custom map as a .tbin file and loading it.
Works perfectly fine.

I feel like working in Visual Studio is gonna lead to me developing really bad habits. Whenever I save, VS locks up for about 15 seconds, completely killing my momentum when I'm used to habitually saving all the time. I'm starting to consider not saving my work as often, despite knowing it'll come to bite me in the ass eventually.9

I design 3D CAD models in my office system. I need to keep saving the files every few minutes because software licenses are floating and once lost, I may lose data.
But another bigger problem is that we need to disable proxy to connect to VPN and work online. And the proxy always turns itself ON, every few minutes and if by chance you saved the file without turning the proxy OFF. Well then OFF goes all the work since you last saved. Because then CREO just stops responding.2 -

I'm not a fan. Harder to collaborate and discuss things with coworkers. I'm constantly fighting the urge to turn towards my gaming pc and start playing something. I only have one monitor instead of the 2 I have in the office. I suffer from depression and the social isolation will definitely exacerbate that. The commute to my office is less than 15 minutes so I'm barely saving any time there. Pretty much the only benefit for me is not needing headphones to listen to music.2

The beginning of my next blog post... at 6am.... Guess who hates his job and why?
<h1>Thinking Before You Code<h1>
The choices you make when you code a part of a program, or even the program itself, impacts everything around it. The importance increases as the size and the scope does.
Quick and dirty simple scripts that get a simple job done and rarely needs changing… fine.
A bunch of quick and dirty hacks all pieced together as part of a giant application... that constantly changes? That's duct tape code that will bite you in the ass later or will give birth to a maniacal raging psychopath that wants to kill you.

Why can't they get power saving right? Every keyboard I have to pull out the sleep button. Once you press it that's it. PC is dead. Put to sleep.
Do I have to venture into the ancient forest and find a prince to wake it up?
Same thing with monitors these days acting all weird.
Can we put a wake up button on these things? They're backwards. At least have a screen explaining its waking up. The slightest indication.
If power saving is going to be such a hassle I'm going to turn it off.6 -
I was writing some JS files, and each time I tried to run them, the browser gave me errors on multiple lines. After looking at the source code, editing tons of lines and still not getting any result, I opened the source through the Chromium console and noticed it was different from mine. I thought there was a problem saving the file. Checked folder permissions, restarted Atom and Chromium, but still nothing.
What happened? I had opened the backup file in Chromium. 😩3 -

My standard pattern for using 'time saving' things (frameworks, scripts, new technologies) seems to be:
1) Get excited by how easy <new thing> is to use.
2) Spend the next 12 hours trying to work out how to work with this new shit.
3) Realise I'm now further back than I started.
Today has been docker.
Easy to run my new Wildfly docker container.... can I find the IP address to connect to? Can I fuck.3 -
I remember I couple years back in school nobody in my class was really tech-savvy except me and friend... Midway through class the teacher was saving a PowerPoint presentation. But when she was editing the name she started to edit the file extension not know what .pptx meant... The look of dismay me and my friend shared as she did this is one of my greatest memories of school.3

2. Shut down my business
3. Maybe start a new business, or completely switch careers to something more interesting
4. Keep working my full time job which, miraculously, allows me lots of time to keep screwing around with my own career and entrepreneurial goals
5. Keep saving and investing so I can retire and travel well before I have to wear adult diapers and walk with a cane2 -
I have been in work 25 minutes before my colleague asks me to help him save and email a file to someone, AGAIN. Ok guys I kinda need your help. I have to write a python project for my school in 3 days and instead of saving everything in files I want to have a database. So my question is can you suggest the most simplest and easiest db to create and connect to Python for a few simple tables. Also the easiest to set up on another computer since my professor will probably want to try it at home.
Also I have to learn Python in 3 days, since I already know a couple of languages, I'm confident I can pull it off. Why I'm asking for help is I need to document it all, that will probably take a chunk out of these 3 days.5 -

Only half dev-related but AAAAARRRGGGGHH it sure as hell is a rant.
Doing a programming course, and I'm supposed to provide flowcharts of the code. Part 4 of Mathematica fails that I've been saving for awhile.
Very consistently, the first time I try to save a graphic, it works fine. The second time, it changes the focus to a different tab, but works. The third time, it quits, but does save the graphic.
When I have >=10 graphics to save, this is pretty annoying, especially as if something was saved normally and not via the prompt when quitting Mathematica normally, after crashing it is no longer saved. -

Reinstalling Windows can be very easy.
I recently found out about the MSMG toolkit, which helps me a lot when I am reinstalling windows.
It basically allows you to remove(and/or add drivers and apps, though i only use the remove part) everything that comes preinstalled with windows 10 from your ISO, saving you a lot of trouble especially with preinstalled apps that refuse to be removed.
I recommend it to anybody reinstalling windows regularly.3 -
That feel when you're saving for a laptop and trying to work on a project for a client but your laptop is quite old (3 years and 5 months in my case) and decides to go crazy when for months ago, the same stuff open wouldn't lead to a variety of freezes.
I mean, there's new specs and stuff but spending in the £1-2 grand on a new one (at least one more up-to-date and with better specs) isn't going to happen anytime soon especially with the new job coming soon.
At least, I can do some of the stuff on my phone 😅. -
So, what are your most favorite methods of saving interesting articles about algorithms, functions or simply news so you can read them later when you have time? I find myself storing links to interesting web pages without really going back to them or remembering which link was what. I shifted to storing the links in evernote but it's still not what I'd ideally like to have...
If there are any recommended routines, apps or tools that make stored links insightful (like allowing me to add a quick description or automatically adding a sort of preview of the link), I would appreciate it!
Please note that this is primarily about saving a resource while I'm on the go or simply can't/don't want to spend too much time on the actions.15 -
So there I have a laptop in dual boot efi that starts directly to mint and has Windows as secondary os. As much as i appreciate mint for being Linux, I cannot really understand why does my laptop last twice as much on Windows on moderate saving settings, regardless of what I'm doing. Colleague who talked me into mint told me it would shorten battery life only by a slight bit. Can anyone tell me how is that possible or how to improve mints battery life?4

And I dont usually shutdown my MBP I simply closes the lid, is that a problem? Have you guys experienced such an issue? If so, how do you overcome?

Working on sidebar css to make it nice and all.
Saving file and looking it through browser, didn't look well.
Changed css, saved, looked again.
Nothing changed.
Repeated process.
Same god damn ugly sidebar!
Deleted css code, saved, refreshed.
THE SIDEBAR STILL THERE.
5 minutes just stared code and looked for bug.
After few moments, found that I had linked wrong(old) css file.

Im amazed by people ranting on CoC, whining that is end of the meritocracy but at the same time have nothing against kicking out Hans Reisers legacy. After all ReiserFS is a fine piece of software. It's just that his aspie took over as he killed his wife. Where were those wankers when Reiser was going to prison? They could do great job on forking, renaming and supporting reiserfs. But no, it's easier to cry about sjw and stuff, than saving neat code.8

Just helped a colleague. She wanted a list of all files in all subdirectories of a folder. Easy enough, fired up powershell, ls'd everything into a text file in ~\Desktop, jobs done.
About 5 minutes later, she messaged me, telling me she closed the file without saving. So I went over. The file wasn't on her desktop. Quickly recreated the file - again into ~\Desktop but powershell found the file there.
"nah, doesn't matter I'll just overwrite it and be done with it." I thought.
So I did that, and the bloody file still didn't show up.
I had a look at where ~\Desktop is. It's on partition H:. WHO THE FUCK HAD THE BRILLIANT IDEA TO SET H: AS THE HOME DIRECTORY?!2 -

New dev colleague today asked me why he cannot save his work in our automation platforms.. Naturally I asked what errors pop-up. He sent me screenshot of window which appears when you want to check for compilation errors, not saving your work. Impulsive saving. I just cut a portion of newly written code (not committed), saved the file as a reflex, and accidentally closed emacs instead of switching window.
The environment should have had the cut in its clipboard, but nope. I should have a history of autosaves, but that doesn't seem to work as I expected.
Binding C-x C-c to null again :(

Just spent an hour trying to work out why changes to the database weren't saving. Forgot to pass the context from the unit of work to the repository.
Sometimes I hate myself. -
Last night I came back from work completely drained, as usual, and thought to myself - "I'll just lie down for a second..." Next thing my alarm wakes me up 12 hours later - "What the... Again?!?"
It was just my biannual collapse from exhaustion. Now I'm good to go for at least six more months. Yay...
This is what happens when you have been working only on "critical" and "we have to do this or the company sinks" projects (are there any other kinds anyway?) for the past 10 years with NO rest between jobs and NO leisure vacations taken...
Funnily enough, this event coincides with my futile biannual introspective analysis on things I did wrong in my life.
Now back to saving the company...2 -

I'm really frustrated by the size of node_modules folder that gets created every time for every project. So, I've been looking for some time-space saving solutions. And I found PNPM ( https://pnpm.js.org/ ) , Yarn ( https://yarnpkg.com/ ) and Pkglink ( https://github.com/jeffbski/pkglink ). But I'm not sure which is better to serve my purpose.
Things I'm looking forward to solving:
1. I don't want to re-download the same packages over and over again
2. I don't want the same packages to be in multiple projects and eat up space
3. I want a stable, fast and disk space saving solution

Time zone just sprang into day time savings yesterday
I had a device monitoring data pollution on a roof that goes to a website. The thing didn’t fucking adjust bday the device stayed on standard time
I spent the entire day thinking what I should adjust for something that most countries don’t do any more why do we even bother with saving daylight.
In addition the timezone I wanted didn’t work right with pandas and I had to do the wrong way to get it “right”6 -

Quick question.
I feel like I'm quickly developing a Bitcoin addiction. I've figured out how to backup my wallet to 'The cloud's by saving a file to Google drive in case I lose or spike my phone. Tested it out, it works. Got like 98% faith that the crypto is safe as far as not being able to access it like the dogecoin that's sitting on a phone that I still need to repair the screen of. First it was 20$, then 40$ in the BTC ATM. Felt like magic.
My question is:. Is you're opinion of me stupid?11 -
