* Decide to continue the next day
* Both leave work at the same time
* Both arrive at work next day at the same time
"Hey is the work done?"
Oh forgive me for not fucking dreaming up the work in my fucking sleep.5 -
I believe that devRant needs to have a scheduling feature that you can set your work time in it, so when your hand unconsciously opens devRant in that time, this activity pops up:10

So a client wanted me to work on a 6 month project for just 300$. Some people really need to learn the value of time and effort18

Just got laid off from full-time salaried position due to various business circumstances. I absolutely loved working there because they paid well, are low demand, they were 100% remote before it was COVID cool, and they didn’t micromanage anyone. Will continue to work for same employer but on hourly work order basis. I’m fighting the “provider” urge to find something else full-time as quickly as possible. My wife, who’s also working part time, says I shouldn’t be in a hurry and take my time to find just the type of job I really want. She’ll even go full-time while I search.
I’m the luckiest unlucky guy.15 -
Today I got yelled at for planning to skip work because I had pressed interested on a Facebook event that occurs at the same time as a overtime work event....7

When everyone disturbs you every 15 minutes because they need help and then expect you to complete your own work to meet all the deadlines on time. FML!9

Me: I have been doing really similar tasks I'm going to spend some time making a template for it.
Supervisor: ok just don't spend to much time on it we have a lot to do.
Me: shouldn't take too long
1 hour later.
Supervisor : how's the work going.
Me: almost done with the template.
Supervisor: this is taking you way to long I need you to just get back to work.
Me: ok
He leaves and I continue work on the template.
30 mins later.
Show him the template.
Me: I cut my time on this specific task by 80%
Supervisor: good job glad I knew you should do it.
WTF YOU WERE TELLING ME NOT TO.5 -
After 5 years of neglect I have finaly found some time to work on an old project of mine.
Not a bad view to work from either9 -
I spend a night in the woods from time to time. 🏕️ It really gets you grounded and helps to take a step back on all those dev / work related issues.9
-
I see a farmer who wants to work less, he automates his work by using new tools - shovels, tractors, to the point that he has to invest similar amount of time to maintain these tools4

Work: You're not allowed flexi time to accommodate your medical conditions
So anyway, I've missed the last 2 days of work because of medical conditions that could have been accommodated by flexi time.13 -
Everyday single day I have to give time for family, personal work and office. Prioritized in that order.
End result : low quality family time, pending personal projects. Office work - well that one is OK I guess cos the time is dedicated.
Solution : made a deal with wife - one day on weekend dedicated for family (she can plan anything she wants) and I will not do any work. Other day dedicated for my personal work/time (no family plans).
Divide weekdays similarly. On family days I checkout at sharp 4pm from office and come home straight spend the rest of the day with family alone. On the other days I stay either at office or go somewhere to work or hangout with dev buddies.
*Wife agrees*
End result: Quality family time. No interruption when coding (a dev would understand the importance of this). More productive work.6 -
Universal law of side projects:
The motivation to invest more time in side projects is inversely proportional to the free time you have!
When you have a deadline, you want to work on 10 new things, as soon as you are completely you just want to a lazy sloth!4 -
Hi guys,
I did disappear à long time, you know personal problems...
But I'm back to work now, and I was watching cppcon, when...7 -
Was coding on a project at home and suddenly i got the feeling that i had forgotten something...
*Checks the time*
06.30AM
Oh... yeah...sleep...
Hello coffee my old friend...
Time to head off to work then :)
How often does this happen to you?4 -
Dear Developers at Microsoft,
Why the FUCK does windows try to update EVERY TIME I boot my VM even though it fails EVERY FUCKING TIME? Can't it fucking learn that it's fucking broken and doesn't work? No? OK...7 -
Thanks to all the sys admins and devs keeping the internet up and running through the holidays. It's a crazy time of year and I'm sure it only means more work for a lot of you at an already stressful time. So thanks again for being the glue holding it all together; we really appreciate your work 🍻
-
Want to work on a pet project, but gf demands all of my time. So, I work at nights. Then I get bitched at why I'm always tired and don't want to do anything -.-4
-
At work,
If I'm not coding, I can't wait for lunch or too leave.
If I am, time becomes irrelevant me
It's 4pm now... Just finished coding... Time to take a lunch break...
Anyone else do this?5 -
"You're charging so much for a work you did so little time. "
"It took me years to learn how do that in so little time" -
After refusing to work over 40 hours a week and refusing to work last Sunday, today I was fired. It's been the 2nd time in my life and it's been the same deal: totally unrealistic timelines and totally unrealistic work expectations.
No big loss. Fuck that place.8 -
Just got my masters degree in AI
Now it's time to relax and work on my old old projects that i left 😊12 -
My team is working against me, seriously time to look for a new job! Bad management, piss poor communication, and...I'm in the wrong room: https://www.devrant.io/rants/2857231

Using this Microsoft keyboard every day at work. Decided to CSSonly it some time ago. Thought I would share :)

The reason I drink a lot of water so that I can go to the washroom more often just to waste time while I'm at work.
I haven't been assigned any work for this week. Maybe I'll get fired. My manager isn't showing any appreciation towards my work.6 -
So I just got let go because there was not enough work to keep me full time. Yet my manager was farming out dev work to a 3rd party developer... Fml3

Hypothetical survey:
Ctrl + s still saves your work but at the same time it pushes to production. How fucked are you?11 -
When I’m at work I can’t wait to get home to work on personal projects only to get home with no energy and just procrastinate and/or play games entire weekend/afternoon.
Think is i also feel extremely guilty if i try to relax and do nothing, but at the same time able to understand that i need time to chill, just can’t get in a positive mindset about it. Am i the only one?8 -
Today's office.
Unfortunately it isnt everyday, but iy's nice from time to time to work outdoors while visiting family.2 -
I feel like a man out of time and space.
I can work from anywhere so I am nowhere.
I work all the time, and I have no time to work.
Hours, days, and weeks. They all feel the same. The gentle barrier of sleep that denotes when one day ends and another begins is barely remembered if observed at all.
What the fuck did I sign up for.4 -
My weekend full of exhaustion and sleep is drawing to a close. Time to start a week full of exhaustion and struggling to stay awake at work.9
-
Anyone else work in a codebase that is so deeply convoluted, that the only way to make new features work is to write new code in a similarly convoluted way?
Everyone wants to refactor our system, but we're a small shop with an insane amount of technical debt, so it likely won't happen for a long time. Any suggestions in the meantime? I feel like I'm spending more time figuring out how to make something work in our system then learning actual good practices.6 -
I see posts about automating your work flow, but if your aim is to save time by automation consult this handy chart4

When your customer says "I'm sure it takes little time to do it" and you know you just won another two weeks of work...3
-
Just wasted a ton of time trying to figure out why my circuit wouldnt work properly and then noticed...2
-
My mother lives and works overseas, and she'd complain about her IT department all the time.
Wish I could get work permit to work there, but I'd have to serve in 'their' military for 2 years...
Yeah, totally makes sense. Nope.5 -
I’ve just received my Potato Pirate game ! Time to teach my matey how to code ! And the nice Kickstarter gift is perfect for my screen at work ;)6
-
Literally no work to do. Learning Ruby to fill the time. Forgot how fun it is to learn new things!4
-
Took me looooong looooong time to understand that the primary work in a managerial role involves meetings and calls as the *main* thing, not something you do sparsely to stay aligned with the team, so them calling 3 hour long meetings might feel like a waste to me but for the manager it is what they would consider proper work.
At least that's my current hypothesis in trying to justify the time that's 90% wasted.6 -
I am always looking forward to the weekend to have some time to work on my side projects, and then I can't get my ass up to do it.1
-
The devRant paradox: the less time you spend on devRant, the more time you have to do your daily work, the more freetime you have to spend on devRant!1
-
I spent a *very* long time trying to work out why my README file wasn't formatting....
It didn't have a .md extension.
:/1 -
As DevOps it’s my duty to make sure these excuses no longer exist. Software should just work everywhere all the time3
-
Trying to decide how to spend my weekend, continue to learn node.js and angular.js OR learn vim OR work on side project...to many choices not enough time7
-
Working a full-time job, then helping with the newborn/household, then staying up until 3am because it's the only time I have to work on my app.
After a year now, the burnout is strong.
Tips to reenergize?3 -
Time management tips one must follow to be successful:-
1. Remove distractions:- Phone, Whatsapp, Instagram, FB, etc. All away from you during work.
2. Remove clutters: Get rid of not required things.
3. Eliminate redundancy
4. Emulate others: (My favourite) If someone has spend time and done some work. Do not reinvent the same work done just replicate that work and continue from that point.
5. Share burden: Team work and depending on others is not bad.
6. Make work fun: Most important if you enjoy your work you will give your best.5 -
Tfw your work pc boots so slowly, that you have time to go to the cafeteria to get some tea and when you return it still hasnt booted.8
-
Funny how human brains are never satisfied.
Not much to be done at work today? My job is unproductive and I am wasting my time.
Too much work? You think you fucking own me, bitches!!1 -
- Procrastinate 1 work day
- Try to crunch 2 work days into one
- Feel frustrated because there is not enough time
- Repeat2 -
What a joke PayPal's so called testing environment is!
Last time I tried to use it, PayPal told me not to try because it doesn't work.2 -
When me and 2 friends/officemates of mine, formed a freelance team to work part time for us to pay the bond contract on our full time job. We were able to leave 9 months after forming the team.3

Brought my mechanical keyboard to work for the first time, I think they're gonna get tired of the constant CLACKA-CLACKA-CLACKA real soon10

After 4 weeks of no coding i start slowly missing it. especially when i'm reading dev rant 😁
Got some time for myself to upgrading elzdev 2.9 to elzdev 3.0
I can highly recommend you to do something good for yourself and spend some time alone with no work.
I chose Barcelona for one month 😍
And now i can't wait to start work again at the begining of november 😄4 -
Recently got out of the military now I work a full time job, have a wife and a 15 month old son, go to college full time online and try to learn Java and android development in my other time. I want to work as a developer so badly but I'm just not good enough yet. It's also super hard to know what level of knowledge you need to obtain a job because all entry level positions want you to have years of experience in 10 fucking languages and shit like what the fuck? No breaks, hungry to succeed.10
-
Hmm..... Do I have time before work tomorrow to watch all 3 matrix movies?
Screw it who cares. Marathon time!!!5 -
Note to self:
Fucking comment your fucking code
So I finally got time to work on an old project and now I can't figure out what does what.6 -
If i had a dollar for each time I promised myself to actually work, I wouldn't have to work for the rest of my life...3
-
I WANT TO SAY A BIG *FUCK YOU* TO SYNCFUSION FOR OFFERING NUGETS BUT NOT MAKING IT CLEAR THAT YOU NEED TO PAY AN $1,000 LICENSE TO GET ITS CONTROLS TO WORK SO YOU WASTE A LOT OF TIME WONDERING WHY THEY DON'T WORK, AND THEIR DOCUMENTATION IS THE SHITS, AND THEN 4 HOURS LATER YOU REALIZE THAT THE REASON THEY DON'T WORK IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN USING THE DEMO VERSION. SO, SYNCFUSION... *FUCK YOU* WITH ALL MY MIGHT. AND IN CASE YOU DIDN'T HEAR ME *FUCK YOU* ONE MORE TIME!! BITCH!4

Not being motivated enough to work on or finish personal projects.
Apparently, easier said, than done when you have a full-time Dev job.1 -
1. Plan your work
2. Plan new skills to learn every year
3. Stackoverflow is your best friend
4. Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions...
5. ... but make sure not to ask too many of them
6. Don't get burned on one single topic, find other projects to work in parallel or even better work on side projects in your spare time -
Managers interrupting you to complain that X takes too much time instead of letting you work on X to finish it in time.
-
Does anyone else feel like they're the smartest, most experienced dev on the team. And there's like a huge gap between your and everyone else?
So you have your own work and things you want to do, but end up spending a lot of time helping or fixing everyone else's whenever they get stuck?
So in the end you can barely get your own work done and never get any free time to do the things you really want to work on/learn?10 -
Do you think that "Work From Home" or "Remote Work" tends to reduce the work life boundary for the employees?
What I think is that Managers feel fine pinging employees at any time of the day. And as employees either you get good at ignoring messages or work outside the working hours.20 -
You can work from home! Heck, you can work from anywhere in the world... we just want you to be at the client 65% of the time!
Whaaaaaa... what? Are you fucking kidding me? How is that helping me avoid having to sit in traffic? -
!rant
Today was the first day I ever added @deprecated annotations to our codebase at work
I'm not sure why, but it felt amazing to use those for the first time ever in an active project I work on1 -
I’m now preparing to switch jobs.
I hate interviews so much. Time to grind puzzles that I’ll never use in my real work.4 -
I'm freelance and I work from home, despite being repeatedly told however my friends have no problem calling in for a cup of tea and a chat in order to stop that work. As a result, I've got to work late to make up for the lost time they've caused me during the working day.
I'm sick to death to explaining this to my friends who just don't understand that I "work from home," and that "I am not home from work."8 -
I get anxiety when I have no work for days,
I am like the fuck is wrong with you body. You’re suppose to be chill, not a monster that wants to work all the time.5 -
That feel when its monday and you know have a lot of work to do, but you don't seem to have any mood on coding...
time to disturb my coworker1 -
when cortana knows youre a workaholic and reminds you its time to leave home to go to work "now" so u avoid traffic... on a Saturday3

I work for a quite small company (4 people) and about 3 years ago, there was this guy from Bolivia who was an intern for graphics and similar stuff, nothing related to programming.
Turns out we got to be quite friends and still hang out from time to time now.
Best thing was when boss wasn't at the office for like a week and we hadn't much to work on, so we spent time smoking, eating, chatting and watching movies... very great time! -
"Programming is like magic!"... Magic that doesn’t work some of the time and laughs in your face while you try to find out why.2

Management proposed to work with external freelancers, to "pick up speed so we can release these new designs sooner". We agreed, but of course we (the home team) can't have time to review their work because we need to develop other new features and bugfixes and such...
Weeks later, turns out that their changes are largely incompatible with the work we have been doing on the main branch. We are now rebasing/rewriting huge chunks of their work, probably taking as much time as it would have cost us to develop the design ourselves in the first place.4 -
Finally got my MSc! 🎉
Now I can switch from part time suffering in worm and part time suffering at uni to full time suffering at work! 😅1 -
Finally after an year I found an inspiration. Time to bring back the fire. Time to start the work.
Will keep on updating about the progress.1 -
I'm a developer, but also a father of 2 kids. I love spending time with them, but sometimes I also like to work on my side projects. And besides that, after a long day of work, even if I have spare time, I also like to lay down on the couch and watch Netflix.
How do you other full time developer / parents out there cope with your own personal projects?9 -
When you want to change team cuz the work has become boring, but they don't wanna let you go :/
Time for job change? -
This pic keeps me motivated.
It says Great work need time to build their Empire.
What you think??41 -
Work is fun when every time I finish editing a project I have to wait 30 mins for it (solution) to compile :D2
-
Found out new senior used to work at one of the same places I used to work but a while before my time. So I guess that's what happened to his hair4
-
Decided to ditch chromium when installing Linux on my work laptop for the first time, and stick to Firefox and DDG. No regrets, it works great!!2
-
What's wrong with motivation?
Each time I have a great idea at work, I stop working, I search for informations and then, when I'm home, I can't motivate myself to work.6 -
Every time a Indian dude mails me at work I always get the urge to just answer:
Sorry I dont have bobs and vagene3 -
Fought with the Windows Disk Manager for way too long this morning trying to shrink a partition with plenty of space so that I could setup a native dual boot...
Screw that tool, I resized the partition to nothing by formatting it.6 -
In the time I was attempting to learn C++ I was attempting to program an application that encrypted a file. Sounds cool but at the time I had no idea on how encryption worked and it didn’t go well. And didn’t work1

The first day back to work after almost 2 weeks off...
And Slack is down. Time to make it a 2 weeks + 1 day vacation.1 -
Time for late night coding, debugging, thinking..been busy since I woke up, work, college, exams, work..work while waiting for an exam..
Coffee - check
Cigarettes - check
Music to keep me motivated - check
Laptop still not lagging - check
Will probably want to sleep in couple of hours - check -
"You should accept your employees for who they are and optimize for their abilities. I am a night owl, always have been, always will be. I am done trying to work in the mornings—it is a waste of time as I am not effective and make more mistakes when I try to work at this time."

My companies policy , you do your work better and you will do the work of everything other fucker who is not able to deliver in time .

Interviewer: Here's a marker, diagram how you would implement a time management system to track user work.
Me: [draws out complex system to track user work via heartbeat]
Interviewer: God, no.. something more simple like a time clock.
[sigh] -
The time at university I was kind of burned out all the time.
I was far away from being a hard-working student, I needed more than double time to finish, but I constantly had a feeling of being stressed.
My free time never felt like free time because I thought I should learn/do something for the university.
Now at work, I can spend my free time without feeling guilty. Sure, I also have to think about problems at work sometime and I still should learn something to get better, but now I can focus on stuff I'm really interested in.2 -
spent the entire day trying to get ssl to work 😩
it works now, but honestly, it's draining to spend so much time on config4 -
College came to me today with version 3 of an attempt for a bug-fix followed with the comment "This one should work, this time i tested it myself before commited it and came to you"
I just thought: then wtf did you do the previous two times? Just yolo commit it to the codebase?
Maybe its time i found some other place to work..8 -
Set some dev goals..
TLDR: spend less time at work coding
No, really..for what I do at work, I am happy. Would like to learn more recent stuff (partially stuck with vb.net), but I don't even know where to start googling.. sooo... get more free time I guess to figure this out..which is a dev goal on it's own too, come to think of it, this translates as don't spend so much time at work coding.. and spend some of it learning new (dev related) things outside of work..new/different js frameworks, python (been fixing/adding some code here & there, but never learned it properly & to check it's full potential, I heard it is awesome btw), read up on algorithm time costs (learn how to fuckin spell this!!)...
And kinda dev related as I will have to spend less time at work is to get back in 'sort of' shape and climb (more)..and spend more quality time with my husband, who is too good, totally supports me & my work, so I never get to hear him nag I was working late, which leads to 'stop working so long' goal I rly need to get in order or I'll burn out again, and I'm bitchy and horrible whe BO..and we don't wanna see that again..
Sum up: work less, learn new things, climb more, be happy/content.1 -
"This semester I will take more time for my personal projects"
Week one, having to organize all the uni stuff
Week 2-4, too much homework, no time
Week 5-7, fucking midterms
Week 8-9, too much homework
Week 10, finally time to relax a bit. Probably not going to work on my project. Fuck my time planning, fuck the day for only having 24h.2 -
Question about work experience.
Here in Switzerland you have 4 years of apprenticeship. (School + work, 50/50)
After that most uf us go to a higher degree (BSc oder MSc). Both can be taken part-time. Again about 50/50 school + work.
Now: Do you count thoses years as 8 or 4 or 0 work experience?3 -
"I look for three things in a project: 1) Compelling work; 2) fun client; 3) astronomical fees. However, to have a successful project, I really only need two out of three. For example, I’ll do great work with fun people for nothing and still feel rewarded. Or, I’ll do great work for a mean, stupid client for outrageous money. Or, I’ll do boring work with somebody I like a lot for more money than one can imagine. Anytime I’m faced with only one of the three it’s time to rethink the relationship. Actually, it’s time to move on." - Lowell Williams

When I slap the side of the machine to fix it that it would actually work...every time, without fail.

Spilled coffee on my keyboard 3rd time this week.. guess who don't want to work and need a vacation1

Returning at work after holiday and have to relocate again! This is the 3rd time in two months... Feeling like a nomad..!2
-
Logging work in Jira, because it goes against the whole ethos of trusting people to get the work done when they have to log exactly how much time they spent on each individual story. It also doesnt account for pair programming. so 2 people log the same time and it looks like the story took twice as long. I’ll stop now because I’m precariously close to opening the “time based estimates” can of worms and thats for another rant.4

Why printer services is stuck in time?
The windows printer spooler is old like my grandma. He fuck all the time but nobody wants to recode it ? I need to search for old driver a day long to make it fucking work at 10%
On linux generic printer driver do the job but cannot do all the things you want
Why is so fucking complicated all the time ? ( Don't think that scanner work you don't have de correct driver )
Solutions printer share the code for how de fuck i work ?2 -
Anyone else here hardly code in their free time? I'm a professional developer yes but I tend to leave work at work. Maybe if I found something fun to work on with others... Or a personal project I really wanted to do for me.3
-
I always want to work on a bazillion side-projects but don't have enough time because college, work, etc. Now that I have all the time in the world to work on side-projects I have zero motivation and just waste my time on YouTube.
This sucks.9 -
How to take breaks?? Whenever I have something urgent to do, once I'm finished I can't get back to work quickly. I need a lot of time before diving into work again.
This way I can't keep myself productive.4 -
so, i got a job in a company with 140 employees. they wanted me to work 9 hours a day, 30 min rest time and i had to pay for everything like lunch and even coffee. if i get to work late or leave work early they would punish me.
Oh god...6 -
I took a day off work to go enjoy camping.
I've never felt so much anxiety about work at this time. I feel like I need to be working right now.4 -

idk how people have time/passion to work on side-projects after work.
or is it just me, who always wants to build something, but ultimately feels stuck, tired and hopeless.
how do I get back to that state when developing stuff was fun?5 -
Word/Excel = piece of shit!! 😡 Pissing me off every fucking time I am trying to do something. I am wasting more time to set up the fucking alignments and fonts and etc, rather than actually do work.4
-
that time when stuff is buggy, you struggle to make it work then you update the version of package and it works brilliantly
-
Well today ended in a bang! Had a typo in a dd command and nuked my entire work VM. Last VM backup august 2020. Time to retrace the entire work environment for a year. Not much work was lost thou as most of it was already pushed.2

Friday: Expectations vs Reality
Expectation: Work on work for half the day then work on side projects for the rest of the day. Consider it a good day.
Reality: Work on work for whole day. Then have your boss set the expectation to have a project completed by Monday morning that you know will take 3 more days. Hence making you work the weekend to try to get it done in time. -.-4 -
I hope it fucking work this time, kubernetes has been on my damn list since last summer, gave up on my 2Mbits internet so I took a scaleway server with 200mbits let's hope I get it to work this time!19
-
Finally have some side project in mind but now I don't have the time. When I had time I was not well mentally to do anything. When is the cycle going to break? Work - burnout - recover - repeat 😣2
-
Can anyone explain to me how is it possible that some devs like to work on macos?
This feels like a punishment to me. Every time.26 -
Best feeling I've felt all week: Even though I don't have time today to install it, I got Wi-Fi on the minimal install ISO of Gentoo to work with almost no configuration. My shitty ass dongles actually work???

First time I've been out all spring or is it summer 😬 been coding my life away
It's nice outside!
Back to work4 -
Am I alone in writing libraries in my time off work with the intent to use that library at work to avoid my company owning that library?3

Still a student, working part time at a dev company, doing small work 'cause they have nothing to make me do, and today the two person I'm supposed to work with are on leave...1

Guys I have so much work to do, and here I am procrastinating on devRant.
Anyone else here wasting there time? :D
(not really... DevRant is too cool to be considered a waste of time) -
- Learn python
- Learn ML
- Move from client projects and start/finish my own project
- Find time/money to start PhD studies
- Find time to do science paper
- Get new car
Had to focus on working when I finished my master so I hope to get back to science part of work -
I'm at that point again where I question whether I want to still do computer stuff for work, but this time I kinda want to do part-time computer work and part-time physical work instead..
If my body is this bad when I'm not even 30, I wonder how I can do this sedentary job until retirement..3 -
i've been working in this company for a few months(this is my first job)
the only downside is sitting for long periods of time
it is so uncomfortable
i dont get time to walk
i dont have time/energy to execise or hit the gym
after the work
what should i do11 -
To have a professional job that lets you work remotely from the comfort of your home in your own office; which pays you well enough but doesn't pressurize you into unachievable deadlines. One that gives you ample time to relax and do some part-time projects for yourself. One that lets you spend time and contribute to the communities you're part of and help you grow both professionally and within the community.
Oh, and best of all, work in the open - open source, open culture and transparency. -
Debugging AWS IAM credentials wondering why they don't work for 5 hours.
Note to self: Check the clock first next time. -
When I started developing my current Django project, I had decided to go full TDD, do it like a pro. But I stopped after some time, as I spent more time trying to make the website look right than trying to make the backend work, which always seems to work fine. Am I an idiot? I think I'm going to regret it...6

M$ Access... It's so disgusting...
Have to work with it a good amount of my work time. It's one reason why I'll change company in the near future.2 -
How am I supposed to work in an environment where the backend crashes and is unavailable for 20 minutes multiple times a day and when it does work the average response time is 3000ms??1
-
My reasons for going to work on this Monday:
-weather really nice
-I'll be able to spend $$$ on boba and other nice foods
-commuting will naturally block away time to work on my reading list
-there's supposed to be a new PC waiting to be set up
I want to do actual work....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 -
About every 2 years I try to adopt Linux full time. This might be my time.
Most likely to work seamlessly on Sony or Asus? Ubuntu or Centos?14 -
The offizial guide to install Tensorflow(Python) on windows is BS. The stackoverflow solution only adds the package, but it wouldn't work.
Time to build it myself... -
Tfw you accepted a project you thought you "can" work on, but over time it turns out that you won't be able to finish the project on time.
:')7 -
I was at school the whole last week, and could work on my Ruby / React project the whole time, but now that I'm back to work, I forgot how to PHP 😅
-
Sometimes I envy those people whose work is purely clock on / clock off, meaning those that can leave work and switch off to that entirely (delivery driver; mcdonalds etc). Having the time to focus on other things. I have never had that luxury, work consumes far too much of my time, even when not working i am thinking about it. I want the time to pursue my other love which is music, and playing my bass. I like my work but sometimes i fucking hate this path i'm on. Oh well FML.4
-
I used to think work from home have lots of pro like we can save our travel time, don't need to dress-up etc and I always wanted to do wfh. But this Covid-19 pandemic made me to hate work from home now I want to go back to office so that I have fix in-time and out-time and proper 8 hr work time.5
-
I really should work on that project to finish it on time... lets work some hours on this side project!
-
Have no work in office!
Most of my teams work is either completed or waiting to get approved.
Gives me a lot of free time at work.
What to do?2 -
I assigned work to my minions aka Jr. Devs for the first time. Feels great. Is this what being a CEO feels like?5
-
Is it harder to work a full time dev job or be a full time CS student with a part time dev job? I’m currently living the second one and it’s hard to balance both work and school.7
-
#justathought
(Disclaimer: Don't think am being racist or anti feminist, i am currently studying about industrial revolutions and trade unions, nd this thought came to my mind )
We went from the time where women were forced to work in industries, to the time where women were forced to stay at home, to the time when women are willing to work in the industry.8 -
Now that I got some time off work, I'd love to dig deeper into programming, are there any new trends around?8
-
That time when you've been working in Linux for so long that when it comes time that you have to do mandatory work in Windows it feels like a drag U_U1
-
!rant.
Just got my first on site job! Fucking tired of working remotely. Time to work without it getting boring/lonely.5 -
This is why I sometimes hate freelance work. You do the stuff and when it's time to pay, ducking clients come up with stories4
-
Already finished all my work and waiting for the rest of the team to be ready for pub lunch, so killing time on devRant.1
-
Having to work with requirement analysis, attending to worthless meetings, acting like a project leader from time to time and developing in two projects in parallel really fucks with your head. Feels like this is hurting my ability to progress in code a lot. Anyone having the same situation?1
-
Considering a contract to hire position. Do these usually result in full time employment? I've never done contract work.6
-
Q&A Time: What company you would like to work in ? Personally, I'd choose Jagex (RuneScape rulez) or Google6
-
Over complicated htaccess rewrites that dont work due to the client's business logic. I hate wasting time on something that should take 5 mins.
-
Music on, use half an hour on selecting project to work on, start working and forget time... Realize it's 4am and goto sleep 😐
-
When someone asks me to work on a project and I check if I've got the time to work on it
try:
import time
except ImportError:
print ("Time not available")
Result: "Time not available" -
If I had a Dev superpower, that would be: Never need to sleep.
Why? That would enable me to finish all my work in time! -
Okay guys now real deal.
I am planning to move to Portugal or something like that.
I think I’m gonna need full time remote work, seems like that one is not happening with me now(part time)
Soo I do react, and all kinds of node selenium, bash stuff . But want to improve on redux and go to react native also.
Long story short shoot the work on me :)11 -
Whenever I bring my laptop to do personal work during lunch, I have to work through my hour. Whenever I don't, I have all the time in the world. :P
-
The CI on Mac is broken. Again.
Next time I have a client that wants me to work with Apple, I'll double my rate. -
Client gave late template for website and system, after that fpdf for live site wont work, too much to do so little time.
-
When I work from home, I probably spend less time working, but I do it seriously
When I work in the office I spend most of the time I would not actually work, pretending to work and probably time spent in actual work is much less
But I guess that better performances in work from home, do not feed automotive industry… -
Guess who is running teo projects at the same time. F’d up planning over here. Seriously i’m bothered by 5 people at the same time. How the heck am i supposed to work like this?
-
https://devrant.com/rants/5124329/...
Half a year later, absolutely NOTHING has changed. Except I have more work on my plate in addition to that big project and those integrations and shit… I’m fucked. So badly need some time off, but ain’t got time for that.3 -
A few times per week, I get inspired and think up some projects that would be really cool to build.
But then by the time I get home, all I want to do is get some rest from a long day at work. So the list of side-projects grows.
How do you guys find time to actually get anything done outside of work?1 -
I'm trying to waste time reading rants, but don't get half of them because our work wifi network is too slow to load pictures
fml1 -
The problem with automating your work so you have time for other things is that when the automation fails you have to find time to do it manually AND fix whatever is broke.
-
Balance work and life? Recently? I’ve cut my number of friends in half. There’s been enough betrayal and petty bullshit to write a melodramatic soap opera.
I did have some work life balance once upon a time, but it’s been all work lately. Gotta get back to having some me time. Not all dev work necessarily. I’ve accidentally jumped in the real estate game with 2 feet.1 -
I need to practice to get my driving license.
Since I can't ditch work or university, what should I take time from?
- Personal projects.
- Spending time with my girlfriend.
- Gym.
It sucks.10 -
Forgot to "git rebase --continue" after fixing conflicts, wondering why my code doesn't work. EVERY SINGLE TIME ahhhhhhhh1
-
Do you guys waste a lot of time at work on purpose or is it to precious? Like strict deadlines, boss coming to check if you are working?5
-
What's worse than being underpaid for your work?
Asking you to make stupid and pointless changes to it time and again.8 -
How pervasive is underestimating project/sprint work to land contracts and expecting devs to make it work in time?
How often are you expected to work more than 8?2 -
I wanna work on small video games more. I thought of joining some small game jams so that I would have to finish a project within a weekend or so, but I don't really have time to dedicate a weekend for that.
And every time I do have enough free time for these things, my motivation drops to 0....5 -
Thinking of logging into work to do a side project and learn some new tech.... bc I don't have time to work on it during the week...
And there's no personal use case to do this stuff...2 -
Its fucking impossible to utilize less than 8 hours for a 5-9. I cant work on my side project with this pace
Please help me how to optimize my time so i can both work this 9-5 job and also work on my side project from 5-96 -
Not starting on work until I barely have enough time left. Then pulling multiple all nighters to deliver on deadline
-
After a few months saving a few bucks, finaly got myself a second monitor to upgrade my studies/work...
Two days later, got back home from work to find my older monitor dead... I guess I'll go back to one screen setup for some time again :(5 -
Wsl with docker. Wtf! Why don’t you work? Ops has destroyed my machine today. Time to drink.
I no longer give a fuck.3 -
Added new function to my Android app, tested for an hour. It was ok --> git push.
After some time the function doesn't work anymore... -
When someone you work closely with only does development work part time, and it's never the part of the time you have questions and need them to be on Slack.
-
Having to keep track of my paid work time in different platforms through manual input, all of which serve the same intent and purpose.
-
Getting your automated testing scripts to work every time your Jenkins/Docker container builds for the first time is the best feeling on a Friday
-
Time flexibility, free food, remote job, a great place to learn new stuff and a great environment to work with no shitty developers.
-
What tool/process/concept saves you the most time in your day-to-day work? I'm looking for things I could integrate into my own work that would make me or my team more efficient1
-
Which one is more worthy to spend after-work-time on (for a female fresh grad programmer): coding or cooking?6
-
In your free time, do you find freelance projects / side hustled to earn money or learn new work related skills?8
-
Not stress with code but with people. Keep on chasing me for the work to be done within their "estimated" time.
-
Is part-time remote dev work a thing? I wanna go that route but no clue where to get started. Freelancing? Consulting? Or do companies actually hire part time remote devs?7
-
I waste a lot of my time simply doing nothing I want to work on my goals but I can`t.
Any suggestions about How to start focusing on the work?5 -
I'm currently working as an intern in a Web company and its the first time that I have to work 8 hours a day (I'm in college so that's completely new to me).
How do you guys stay focused for 8 hours? It's kinda hard to go from 90 minutes classes to 8 hours of (somewhat) consistent work.
How do I focus for a long period of time?7 -
Done, first time sending a curriculum to a company, looking to work as an Android developer on summer and maybe during the semester, wish me luck! ^_^
-
I have not been able to work for quite some time already due to a chronic condition getting worse. Even when I have been at work I wouldn't get anything done due to chronic pain (a literal pain in the ass), so this year hasn't been very fun so far. I cannot sit nor stand for extended periods of time. I just want to be able to work again! :C5
-
What do you do it you have an interesting/challenging work problem you can't seem to get out of your head?
I'm kinda tempted to spend my own time on it but that feels like doing paid work for free...1 -
So features and work are slowing down in the pipeline at a new job I took. Is it okay to just spend the time in between "work" to do tutorials on other technologies?7
-
Been forced to use my MacBook Pro with 4/5 years to work today (I'm on client company)...
After 4 hours work was able to run app for the third time...
This day will be looooong3 -
It was a great christmas time and good to had some days without a computer and without code but im so happy that i have to work today
-
Whenever there is a new project to work on, I get the complex parts, I work for 10 Hours a day. While others get simple tasks, go home on time.
Question do I take that as a compliment ? -
I'd love to finish my web-based MUD platform (WebMUD) for creators to create their own MUDs and realms. Probably about 50% there but very slow progress. Between work and dealing with a tyrant of a toddler, finding time to work on it is proving difficult. :(
-
First day back at work, lunch time now. So far I've been to one meeting and done no work. I can't get on to the vpn. We get OTP for the vpn via sms. Sms is taking so long to come through that it always expired by the time I get it
The kicker? I work for a cellular provider1 -
Hey y’all! I’m having a good time with golang so far! However, it’s so damn frustrating to have to give it admin permissions every time I need to restart my program when making anything with networking. Is there any work arounds to this without giving my account admin?7
-
Keep your stuff up to date. always!
It'll save you a lot of work & headaches and time. and we all know, time=€€ so it might even save money.
Besides that it is just cool and very nice to work with the newer things -
I'm so busy with school and work that I can't find time to work on projects 😩 Trying to grind my way into a career but being crushed under the tremendous weight of time restrictions and responsibility
-
At work we are currently planing to migrate our source code to the latest compiler version. But I don’t think that we will migrate everything from the old version to the new version this time. Then we have to use three different compiler versions at the same time, with three different IDE versions. And how many VMs are you using at work?
-
My one way commute to work is at least 2 hours on bus. Is this normal ?
I am tired almost all the time.4 -
The ideal and presumption to be able to help whoever in their work and stuff.
Being able to save them frustration and time....
.... Or not 😈 -
To be honest spent a year of work time on a team of 2 developing a product that 2 people have bought, £1000 revenue... 1 year after release.
At least we didn't waste time writing tests. -
It sucks when you are unable to work on any new features in forever and mainly spend time updating the existing code base, doing visual designs & documenting the application.
Let me please work on a new feature that the clients will use instead of meaningless busy work2 -
Picked up the latest version of Test Driven Development work Python. Haven't done much test driven development so time to change that .
-
I hate my boss, he just throw some weird ideas to work on, and at the end it fails. WASTAGE OF TIME !!
-
Anyone familiar with js bxSlider? Anyone have time and willing to slack chat or email with me to provide some assistance? Yes I looked and am trying to get some help on stackedoverflow as well but this is time sensitive for work :(7
-
I am super bored lately and wonder if I should pick up coding in my free time again. 5-8 years ago when I started I used to code a lot in my free time like work on game mods and other things. But now I Just do not know where to start 😂 ideas? I just do not want to work on work related projects during my time off..4
-
About to tell the boss I can spend more time tracking my time and moving tasks around in the latest of the project management softwares I’ve had to use here, or I can do the actual work. Not both.
-
When you finally realize, you like to be #worried, you miss, being worried all the time to get things done.
#hustling at #work. -
> every job or mission GET.
> customers paying on time and getting the fair rate you ask without negociating.
> always possible to work remote.
> customers that are not asshole company's of the world.
> social business network expanding
> making enough money to take on some courses and certifications from time to time.
These all seem so distant now. -
When you get paged by your company to help investigate and fix critical issue in production and don't get time to work on the hackathon.
-
Well here i thought i would have done work...and pooof its time to go home
All i did was refactor with and make PR...
*SIGH*
I guess today was one of those days where little work was done -
I been using PyCharm for a long time now to do my python work, what are everyone else's feelings on it?4
-
Alright so this I have been feeling from sometime now, this abnormal energy to work till dawn n dusk and then realizing that this body needs time to heal back and I have to take rest before starting any work.
I want to meet focus of a saint1 -
I just dont. I love my work so I work way to much: fulltime Job as dev project lead in a big advertisment Company, additional to that i work part time as a teacher in a school for it students (15h/week) and then I have 2 customers as freelancer for the weekends :)2
-
The fact that if something doesn't work it's most likely due to my idiocy..
Debugging is quite depressing and awesome at the same time -
My double time is when I spit rhymes twice as fast
Your double time is when you work twice as long to afford jetbrains and simping2 -
Doing office even when it's vacation day today...
Not because I am a workaholic or there is work pressure from company...
But because I like doing my work as a developer and it's quite peaceful and fun to code for some hours rather than idling around at home figuring out how to kill time especially during this lockdown period...
P.S. Planning to find some time to learn from online tutorials too in the evening 😁2 -
Working from 7:00 to 15:00,after work don't have that much time to workout, so I try ti weighted push-ups every minute or so from 2pm till 3..biggest problem is when the code embraces me and I forget that I should work out a bit.. And yes, I work from home3
-
Its been a month my desktop stopped working and i tried to get it repaired from a local workshop. The guy tried everything to make it work but failed.
Now i am stuck with
no computer to trade forex, work on my personal projects.
Time wasted....9 -
I'm a dev with a full time job and a family. Any recommendations on the best way to pick up side work in the US that won't completely blow out a work life balance?1
-
Hey,
I've been wanting to take on some freelance work in my free time. As I have a lot of free time.
So does anyone know a site more geared towards amateur to intermideate dev's who want to gain experience and are willing to work at lower rates because of that ? Or any site where i can just hop on and find some work. I've been suggested upwork but that seems to be more for more experienced devs.4 -
I always try to make solid plans with an exact time. It helps keep me on schedule with work and friends
-
It’s the folly of our time that with each loop of the grand application certain key components that need to be solid to even appear to work fail consistently3
-
Any boot camps worth it to become market ready. Still seeking proper degree but I’d like to work during that time as well. Thoughts?3
-
What sucks in wfh setup is there are so many attendance to fill out. Then there’s this tracker that I forgot to time out, then updated it the other day getting the current date time it’s like I work overnight lols
-
Should I be guilty for turning to WP wheb customers ask for a simple CMS?
Given more time and resources, I'd definitely work on something myself but I feel like the widespread use of WordPress has set an expectation of a rapid outcome to customers, and I'm just not given enough time to work on something better.1 -
when you're trying to play #screeps at work but your phone rings all the time and the internal messenger won't stop trying to get my attention...
