Interviewer: "I checked your Github, your side projects look very interesting! Tell me about your other hobbies."
Me: "other hobbies?"11 -
On Friday I deployed to a life site without going through code review or any testing whatsoever. I am now known around the office as 'Billy the Kid'.6
-
Had a PR blocked yesterday. Oh god, have I introduced a memory leak? Have I not added unit tests? Is there a bug? What horrible thing have I unknowingly done?
... added comments to some code.
Yep apparently “our code needs to be readable without comments, please remove them”.
Time to move on, no signs of intelligent life here.39 -
Started Computer Science class yesterday, but i code like 12 years. My fellow mates mostly never coded in their life. They think its gonna be easy. They think they will have a social life. They think their gonna get sleep.
Those fools.11 -
So, me and my girlfriend were on a discord call and she said to me: "You know how you can get lost in someone's eyes? Well, I get lost in your code".
I've never been more touched and conflicted in my life. 🥰🤨6 -
You are the CSS to my HTML,
You make my life so beautiful.
You are the JavaScript to my code,
You make my life to be so dynamic and full of life.
You are the OS in my life,
Without you, am useless
You are the C: to my brain,
Without you am nothing.
You are the stack overflow to my problems,
I run to you for solutions.
To be continued.....10 -
So I found myself explaining to my rubber duck all the things I've done wrong in my past relationships...
What? It's a great guy, I shouldn't limit it just to code issues, I have a life it could fix too4 -
Progression in mindset of a developer trough professional life:
1. I'm going to make my code so efficient and beautiful that everyone will envy it!
2. I'm going to make sure I keep separation of concern.
3. I'm going to make my code at least maintainable for other developers.
4. Well shit. At least it works, for now.3 -
Interviewer: "I'll checked your GitHub, your side projects looks very interesting! Tell me about your other hobbies. "
Me:"Other hobbies? "8 -
I am a hobby programmer. I just got rejected by the biggest crush of my life. I guess I'm stuck with my stupid wothless fucking life writing code. How fucking exciting....22
-
The main reason I'll stick to development as a career for the rest of my life is the freedom.
I can have a 3 hour long lunch with my girlfriend, I can write code at 2am, and usually I can leave for short holidays with just a few days notice.
That freedom is saving the little bits of social life I have.10 -
Me: I don't spend the prime of my life watching series, I code, I develope, I learn
* Discovers Silicon Valley *

"Just about every aspect of your every day life is run by or depends on millions of lines of code.. have you hugged a programmer today?"1
-
Coding completely changed my life. After roughly 8 years in construction management, and one rough divorce, I decided my life needed a change, so I dropped my high paying construction job and learned web development. 3 years later learning to code was the 2nd best decision I ever made (1st was to get a divorce)2
-
I wish i could code for 8 hours straight instead of getting interrupted every 20mins. That would be the life7
-
HAI
Just published LOLCODE language support for Visual Studio Code. One of the most satisfying moment of my life.
Link : https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...
KTHXBYE7 -
I code, watch Big Bang Theory, sip coffee, and code again. I never leave the doorsteps except for my classes. Some say my life is sad.
Is it? Anyone out there like this?18 -
Made live code changes to production site... during peak visitation hours... things broke... no one noticed... Thug life.2

me in life: if its too delicious so its unhealthy.
me on code: if it's too easy so it's probably wrong3 -
Well... Looks like I managed to make a Webpage in C++...

I need a life...

I code, drink, and from Java (yes it's an actual place). Except my life doesn't run on JVM. Or does it?5
-
I have never written a single unit test in my life. Hence my code breaks from time to time. Karma is a bitch 🤣3
-
I once figured out a fix for my bug in my dream. Luckily, I woke up at 2 in the morning and wrote the fix down and went back to sleep. The next morning, the whole thing felt like a dream.3
-
When you code a bunch of stuff while horribly stoned, and the next day it all still works really well, but you cannot for the life of you figure out how or even why it works.4
-
When no one told you that being a software engineer would entail putting up with other peoples shitty code for the rest of your life3
-
That moment when the you actually think that this huge refactoring isn't worth it, but you do it anyway so you can live with yourself...
Code quality is love. Code quality is life.1 -
Just tested my GPU code vs my non-GPU code.
Its a simple game of life implementation. My test is on a 80 x 40 grid running for 100,000 cycles.
The normal code took 117 seconds.
The CUDA code took 2 seconds.
Holy fuck this is terrifying.3 -
When the last dev wrote code and you dared to read it....switch on a Boolean, what even is your life legacy dev?2
-
It's 3:17AM and the senior dev won't give me a ship-it even after 4 code revisions. I've decided to give up on life9
-
I spent 10 years of my life to learn how to code when I could make big money without coding. I'm such an idiot13
-
Just got a message from a co-worker out of the blue telling me he loves my code.
Happiest day of my life :D
Means more to me than any other achievement in my life. -
Probably the biggest problem of my life was starting to code at age 28 instead of, let's say 14...12
-
Discovered that its possible to bookmark places in code for easy access.
My whole life has been a lie so far.13 -
When I saw you I was afraid to meet you. When I met you I was afraid to learn you. When I learnt you I was afraid to love you. Now that I love you, I am afraid to lose you....... CODE WITH ❤ IN <?php..........?>9
-
Just spent 10+ hours refactoring a code, and at the end I've figure it out a one line fix to the problem... just wasted 10 hours of my life.. :)7
-
"Eww that is not Dev-related!"
Shut the fuck up. For me, devRant is a social media for developers and not a social media about only dev-related shit.
"devRant is a fun community for developers to share and bond over their successes and frustrations with code, tech, and life as a programmer!"
You see?
"for developers"
"about code, tech and *life*"
For fucks sake... Stop crying around and just dislike it if you don't want it.7 -
i went to an interview and tried to explain code that i did nit understand. Longest 20 minutes of my life6
-
I have a large code library I have been working on for over 10 years. I have nightmares about leaving it to another unfortunate dev. I'll have to work at this company the rest of my life.7
-
Programming a Discord bot in Javascript and just ran it and said, "Hi, NoVegBot" in the chat. It said, "Hi, dad!" back! (Totally didn't program it to say that 😉) That moment when you put life and personality into something you code.12

New job...
No introduction to project
No database overview
No documentation
No commented code
Shit, hope this isn't normal in the industry I have aimed the rest of my life at9 -
Just received a job invitation for my first developer position. But I never wrote a line of code in my life. I guess my interviewer too.8
-
IntelliJ has this tutorial where it teaches you a bunch of shortcuts for making life easy, since version 2017.3 or something like that. Most of it is pretty meh, some of it is pretty useful. And I just came across a keybind to auto format code.
What else do I need. If I can quickly format my code and make it look pretty, that's all I'd want.
"Try reformatting the selected code with Ctrl+Alt+L"
*Linux Mint goes to lock screen*
*logs back in, code is unchanged*
Well played...6 -
I have a coworker who comments every line of code he writes and it doesn't matter how simple the code is and it drives me crazy when I have to look at it. A real life example:
// Gets the total length of the server name string
var total = serverName.length;7 -
Successfully duel booted windows and elementary os. 😌😌
Installed elementary tweaks, osx darker theme numix circle icons.
Installed vs code. 😋😋
Life was never so easy.
I love elementary os. 😍😍😍
Elementary forever.🤘7 -
No work experience: I'm gonna be the best programmer in the world. My code is beautiful. This is my passion.
After 1-2 years experience: just f@#$!ng work pls so i can go home goddamit i hate my life im hungry f@$!% everyone.4 -
Life is like code,
Your loved ones are your IDE,
You can be good with code without an IDE,
but it makes things much more smoother when you have one :D
Life quote :) -
What do you do when another dev overwrites/changes your working code without telling you, only because s/he cannot understand how your code works?
And your code was working fine, mind you, no bugs or anything, and is following recommended guidelines/standards. It's just that this other dev has a different coding style and prefers to rewrite everything his/her way even if it means breaking up otherwise sound logic.7 -
I love code but my wife comes first. My kids come first. Although I do code for gun, a lot of times my other hobbies come first.
My life comes first. Am I alone?9 -
Just started a new job and they flew me across the globe for two weeks all expenses covered just for a party and a conference before I wrote a single line of code. I think I’m starting to like dev life)5

I think one of the best moment of life is finding a good song all of sudden. It's like finding a new drug which I can just inject in my ear and code at 100% productivity. -
That feeling when a bug has been bugging me for 3 days, I find that little information in API source code and using that I make a fix.
Developer life is so worth it :) -
Node modules saved me today....
I did
$ rm -rf *
accidentally.
And then while it was deleting node modules i cancelled it and saved my work.8 -
I have always considered myself as a tab person.
I was living my happy life thinking spaces didn't make sense in code.
This until last week, when I realised intellij is automatically putting 4 spaces instead of tabs
I feel betrayed5 -
Forgot my laptop charger in the hotel, flight leaves in 10 minutes, and my computer is at 2% battery life.
I just need to build this code and push! Will the code be pushed in time? Stay tuned to find out!!
... nah jk it just died. 😧 -
As Karl Lagerfeld once said: "Visual Studio Code is a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you use Visual Studio Code."21

Bugs in code are like heartbreaks in humans. They suck, but they also teach you some important lessons 🤷♂️4

You know u have no life when you get a call, you're all excited about who's it going to be...
"oooh an unknown number!"
*picks up*
"who's this?"
... *automated voice* "This is apple calling you for your apple verification code... your code is..."
And u realize u have ur computer on which u need to enter your code because u tried to login 2 minutes ago...2 -
When it's late at night and my wife and child have gone to bed and I pull out the laptop to start some code/specification I question my life choices.
Does anyone else wonder why they're driven to do what they do?4 -
Last night I had a panic attack and woke up in cold sweats because in the dream I had I was constantly using the wrong variables in the wrong places...
-
The fact that there are code editor apps for android just changed my life. Now I can buy a small bluetooth keyboard and code on the go.5
-
There are always three questions i get asked when i tell people I'm a programmer:
Can you take a look at my phone/laptop/pc etc...?
Can you hack?
Whats the green stuff from matrix?3 -
Actually finishing a project.
I am a person who gets a lot of ideas for projects I want to work on, then I start writing the code for them, then I reach a wall, stop and restart the cycle all over again.
Fuck my life.2 -

This is a project we need to work on in university. The code was given to us.4 -
Brought my Mac to holidays so I can code... while at it, I realized that I left the charger at home ..Now I'll have to go home with a depressed state of mind2

Went for a job interview today, and learned something very important about myself...
...that I should be permanently banned from writing code on whiteboards, for any reason. I have never seen such ugly code in my entire life. Ugh...5 -
Ok it is official I need a life. I mean a real life with those things called "friends", "parties" etc. etc.
I realized this while looking at some code I, loudly, said "Wow today's is your birthday you're exactly two months old!".
I let you guess reaction of my colleagues.10 -
When you boast to your dad/mom about the code write,
And they ask you to fix their washing machine.
:'( -
Typical code life?
1. Write rough comments
2. Write more detailed comments
3. Write pseudo code
4. Write semi-working but definitely ugly code
5. Write working but very ugly code
6. Refactor the code to be nicer, check for patterns, bottlenecks and other bits and pieces
7. Push to git the "final" code
8. After few months blame whoever wrote the code
9. Refactor all the things!
---
This happened in my career more than once and still - it seems like the best option out there to get things done. What do you guys think? Should something be added/removed from this? Is this over-complicated or what?2 -
ARRRGGHHH! When the person sitting next to you produces nothing but shit and you know it's shit but, your boss doesn't because he's never written single byte of code in his life!2

for ( let i = 0 ; i < Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER ; i++ ) {

I have this math teacher and, wow, is she good at math. And, wow, should she never enter another field in her life. Today she asked us if anyone does code. The answer is yes, but I refuse to answer something that uses code as a verb.7

I hate my freelancer life.
1. No weekends
2. No particular time to close
3. Work for 12 to 14 hours without sleep sometimes
4. Keep explaining the dumb clients about how development is not wordpress.
Its all fucked up. I have no life.
My average Lines of code this month is around 700 LOC/day. Whereas the average that showed on internet is 100 LOC/day.
I have choosen a hellish life.10 -
its 2:00 am here can't sleep. So I sat down and started fixing stuff for the projects burried in graves :/
-
PM asked me to make the code deeper, here's the new load script:
//Someone is born (init script and load deps, also run it)
$life = new begin_life();
//magic happens (generate random token)
$life->Living = openssl_random_pseudo_bytes(rand(), TRUE);
//We end it all
$life->die();3 -
My favorite command of day is 😂

Honestly I love PHPStorm. It makes my life so much easier and takes care of a lot of the mundane tasks and boilerplate I can't be bothered with, allowing me to get on with making a right old mess of the code 😊.3
-
It has taught me to accept that I am frequently wrong. Not just when faced with code but with people too.
All the years of "It can't possibly be MY code that's wrong" which of course always turns into "Well, I guess it was my code..." Had helped me think critically in relationships, politics, and many other areas of my life.
Programming had actually heavily influenced my behavior and I would say it is largely for the better.
However, one negative effect it has had on me is that I am less of an optimist. Code is very "cause and effect". This means a lot of my life is "no surprises" and "you get what you give"
So I often feel like the most likely outcome is probably just the one that's gonna happen. There are no surprises, no miracles. Life is cause and effect. -

Hi devs,
i am just curious, how often you use devrant.
to be honest,.. if my life is good.. no bugs. no miss management. I don't even remember devrant exist..
but as soon as I got frustrated from code, management, life.. Devrant is the first thing I type of my browser before starting any work :P3 -
Pretty much your life when you have the misfortune of debugging labview 'code' written by an electrical engineer4

They say 'code drunk, refactor sober' but they fail to mention the sober refactoring dude won't have a CLUE what the drunk coder was even thinking.

All I want in life is to sit at a desk, drink hot coco or energy drinks, program and slowly become insane, because my code won't work2

2018 goal:
Learn to write code, and make a lot of money, and live a happy life, and hopefully my mom will love me again, and...3 -
Life can be simplified with code. We're all running on an infinite loop. Eventually, we come across an unexpected bug and crash.2

How can you call yourself a code if you live in a city and never experience the outdoors, trees, birds, life. I do it all the time and it gives me so many more ideas and concepts to include in my coding.
#include <outdoors.hpp>6 -
I hate my current work with this piece of bad written legacy $hit. As 2 year old 'junior' without any code review and mentor I feel depressed. I should improve my skills at home and run away from it.
F#$ck you, corpo.3 -
three days trying to code magento payment method, our seniors didn't help me (because they lazy), went to other company senior, 10min and everything works...life sucks
-
How did you guys learn coding? I wonder because I have taught everything I know myself and learn almost nothing about programming in school.21
-
Oh yeah am very religious.
I attend the Church of JavaScript.
We code 5 times a day.
And pray on Sundays for Internet Explorer.
By keeping away from bugs and living a functional life
We will all one day meet the web in native paradise4 -
There was a task of fixing up a payments page that features pretty complex logic. Initially it was like 200 lines of code, seems short but it was a fucking spaghetti mess. Never seen more cognitively complex code in my life.
So I delete the spaghetti and pull out the 500 lines fucking state machine. It works perfectly. It’s perfectly understandable even though it’s longer.
This is how I deal with problems. Shorter code isn’t always better code.4 -
I coded part of feature 2 months ago.
Left it to help frontend guy a bit, deal with fire after release. ( we’re missing frontend integration tests and every release is pain in the ass ).
My backend code coverage is about 80% so not much can go wrong at this point.
So I added more code today and it looks like new feature is working but don’t know what the code I added 2 months ago exactly do.
The only thing I know is that it definitely needs refactoring ...
Being only backend dev / release manager / administrator/ dev ops in project is painful I need to deal with everything on my own 😔
At least client doesn’t care if it’s done in one week or in one month right now.1 -
Recently, I failed a lot. Most of them were interviews. Some failed at code challenge. Some of them were leet code type challenge. Some failed at less quality vs other people. Used to be ashamed or angry. Now able to embrace it. Thanks to jack ma's documentary. Start to integrated his philosophy into life.1
-
So I've never taken the time to fully learn git/github. I'm guessing my life will probably change after today. Might explore some different code editors while I'm at it.6
-
I frequently run into the problem of overthinking instead of just doing something.
But then I feel conflicted with myself if I felt that there could have been a better way to do something instead of just doing it for the sake of doing it.1 -
Anyone else starting to perceive real life and communicating with people using logical gate thinking?
I think I need vacation because communicating with non tech/code savy people requires an effort..1 -
Nice cuppa Earl Grey with honey. Badass Wolf Shirt playlist on repeat.
I'm going in for a voluntary night shift. I fuckin love this job.3 -
Project configurations... why, for ffs, whenever i come to old project i need to deal with configurations, build systems, certificates, project settings. I want to write code not dedicate my life to Maven and making directories by hand for Android Flavors.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa! -
My life has been pretty rough this week regarding personal life context, but at least my pull requests are being approved and having good comments, which is nice.

When you do a pull and find a line of code is mis-indented by a space/tab and you start questioning the code gods and universe about the meaning of life1

To all fellow Java devs out there. Remember the Java life: "We code hard in the cubicle"
https://youtu.be/b-Cr0EWwaTk -
The code will not:
* bad-mouth
* lie
* let down
* abuse
* cheat
* bully
* kill
* run away
The code brings people together no matter if someone has the brain power of protozoa or is the next Euclid. The code is pure with a passive buff to become as perfect as possible. It's the new math for the future world. The code is love, the code is life.
That's why I love (to) code. And you?2 -
Everyday I come to work. I feel miserable. Everyday write code. Fix difficult bugs. Go home dinner sleep. Tomorrow repeat.
I am reading Jia jiang's story. Mel Robbins 5 seconds. Christ grace's lectures. Still feel miserable. What is the meaning of life? All I want is to teach people code.7 -
The best dev advice a dev has given me is to write clean and structured code from the very start of every project. Changed my life in general.
"How you do one thing is how you do everything." -
This is so nice..💙😄

Life is good when you're responsible only for your task, code you write.
While i had souch a beautiful life, I could come to wrk, make coffe, magic and be happy. Sometimes it would be fast, sometimes slow. Sometimes I had to learn before implementing, sometimes I just needed to code it down. I had working hours. I had only TL and client to deal with.
If you dislike working with your collegues, imagine being responsible for their work and feel good.1 -
Today I've found code that was generating HTML of ```<ul><li>1. Item</li><li>2. Item</li></ul>``` and I'm seriously reconsidering all my life choices. Fortunately the guy who made this doesn't work with us anymore.6

Imposter syndrome in my early days put myself into a roller coaster of emotions. I always compared myself to others to the detriment of myself.
Thankfully overcame that working with some great guys.
But yeah, coding has impacted life for the best though. The challenge, creativity and constant learning is beautiful. -
How to write unmaintainable code and keep your job for life, tip #476;

Even if I can't get committed in real life I make sure to get my code committed daily. -
What was your best moment in your life as a Programmer?
Mine, besides a small amount of good projects for my course, was telling by the phone to a project partner the code, line by line, that would solve a bug in the code and when be put it and run the project it worked. Still need something to top that one XD2 -
When you write LaTeX, do you code? Typeset? Program? Type random stuff so that in the end the PDF looks good enough to publish it?
I really feel like it's coding but it also is typesetting. Hmm, the questions of life!14 -
When you start learning a programming language it seems like I will be the master of it, when you actually start doing it,It fucks you well.2

Sometime my code is so wrong that I can almost hear the mother of algorithm crying out loud.
I just want to remove that piece of code from my project....no, from my mind, my life. -
Code didn't change my life because I've been coding since I was a kid. You could say that it shaped my life instead. I don't know life without code. I don't know if that's good or it's not...

Life is huge bunch of programming code written by God. Where the flow of control depends on how you resolve conditions.2 -

I'm in highschool learning to code, but I already realize that a programmers biggest enemy is TIME! I don't have time do the projects and learn the stuff I want to fucking learn! Because of God Damm School!!3

Software development is a special kind of a nightmare. The kind that you wish you could wake up from, but can’t, because code is money and money is life.4

At work I am "the" programmer and is the first time in which I actually enjoy showing different solutions to problems without having a fear of implementing large things without having any form of recognition.
Seeing someone get happy because of something you created is a great feeling and even tho most of us are misantrophic af we can still appreciate bringing happiness through code.
To me, software engineering is the closest thing to magic and I really believe that.
Two days ago I showed my manager a little utility to build small portions of the site we are building and make changes to it in real time without browser refreshes for whatever change she would like to do. She was super happy and excited and it made me feel real happy.
Such great feeling man. Nothing but good vibes brother!! -
Life quote : Your Karma is directly proportional to the Number of bugs you get, when you are on call.
:D -
That moment when you find a function called with faulty arguments or a referece mistaken and fix it and code actually works now aaaaand you wake up.. i started to dream about the same code cause i keep rewriting it for different reasons.. what a life

I learnt Swift in 2016. 2017 has to be the year I turn Swift pro.
Happy new year to all and may your code come to life and thrive. -
The code life is a cold life, but I love it. And, I can't get enough of this video! "I am a different bug. I'm the last bug you see before you die."

That moment that your teacher says she'll teach you php and in the she says she will not teach you php and your project has to be a website made in WordPress...1

think I've hit that stage of my life where things break faster than I can fix them
from my body, to my code, to even my hardware9 -
I just met real life Wally from Dilbert.
Semi retired, works a few hours a week with excellent pay because he is the only one who understands the legacy mainframe.
Learning from his example we now plan to obfuscate all code before check-in. Only readable code version will be on our encrypted personal drives. -
I have been looking at my github contribution graph.. i only write code when I'm unhappy.
The times of my life when i am happiest and make the best memories are completely blank. I suppose I have been using programming as a coping mechanism, some hobby to keep my mind off things i dont want to think about?
Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe I should be doing other things with my life.1 -
While changing a pathetically written code, a thought came to my mind that like doctors we should also have a licence system for software engineers... And all the engineers who wrote such shitty code should be banned from the profession for life.,👾4
-
Talking to my architect:
- hey, we have a lot of code smell and data is structured usually in a chaotic way, also its hard to understand what is going on with all these code duplications, maybe we can think about refactoring, better structure, maybe even we can extract some domains and make life less painful?
- what is domain?
- *facepalm*4 -
Working with a pointer-linked graph. With pointers referencing pointers referencing pointers referencing pointers ref....
*explodes*
it's not (only) bad code, its my life now.1 -
Spent 8 hours in debugging a defect, just to know that code has been completely refactored, that defect is resolved, another critical defect to be fixed at high priority 😭😭😭😭😭😭 in the same code .. refactored by someone else 🥺🥺
And people call .. life of software engineers is so easy and cozy 🤔😰😢🥱4 -
The feeling of incompetence when you realize all your life you've copied and extended tutorial code from the internet. So much so, that the thought of coding from line 0 sends a chill down your spine.

WWDC or 2hours commercial
None life of code like the google io(first day)
“Developers conferences” are comming less dev and more marketing1 -
There is a period in developer's life when writing comments in your code is a good idea. Then, after some time, when you write comments, it means your code is not that descriptive, is not so good that you consider writing comments.2
-
How about for once in your fucking life, before saying that my code is wrong because it is giving you errors, you fucking check to see if you have the semicolons in place
-
Genuinely asking some rare pokemon php developers that are up to date with the tech (all php devs I know stopped learning when my grandpa was like 5 years old) to show me php code that is not spaghetti bolognese. I am asking this as I am yet to witness such code for the first time in my life (and I am coding since 94')!13

Life Bugs
====================
What would you define code that's not "Hard coding ?" ---"Soft-coding" ?
Any suggestions?
-_-3 -
Please don't try to decipher your code from 5 years ago, it's a mistake. Thought it would be a great idea to bring an old project back to life. Turns out it is not. Not when I can't understand my own code...3
-
Have you ever noticed how angry and hateful you can get just by reading someone else's code. I think I'm losing about 5 minutes of life per minute of code that I'm reading this shit.
On the plus side every minute feels like an hour so quantitatively I end up on top though... -
Coworker 1 starts project
Coworker 2 inherits same project
*repeat 3 more times*
Coworker n has no idea what this spaghetti code is and what it does since everyone has done quick fixes as per management requirements.
This is how the company where i work functions. And with all these projects going from one dev to the other i can tell you its a real shitshow and a lot if frustration 😤2 -
Oh what a wonderful life we lead, when first we code, debug and repeat.
(Before you ask me: it's an original btw)2 -
just read about Zeno's paradox and realized, this is our life!!
The client sets requirements, we code them within n time. by the time we finish it, the client sets new requirements. so we code them again, but by the time we finish it, more requirements are set.
will we ever be able to finish it all? that is the paradox.

Whats your weirdest bug/issue in your code? Which you couldnt figure out why, but it was something simple and you was Like ”oh how could i miss that...” etc.
I need to have some fun in my life right now haha.7 -
..that moment when you stumble over a thrown UnrecoverableBlablaException, but one level up you discover, that it is pretty well recoverable.. a real life "how to make your code less maintainable, rule #489: lie in you type names"1

"It is the worst kind of unprofessional behaviour to simply code from a spec without understanding why that spec makes sense to the business"
My life...every day.1 -
I spent the entire weekend moving into a new apartment and all I could think about was the time I was wasting packing boxes instead of coding 😥

New piece of code which should work perfectly and solve your problem but it is not working just because you forgot to remove an old piece of code you were trying to fix the same problem! Fuck my life!1

Removes an control statement or a loop statement in python code ......
Fucks up entire code below it due to indentation error..
Sit and remove the indentation line by line

After spending hours on just one code and not able to make it run,
here I am on devrant and announcing,
Life is Shit, Shit is life,
Coding is love, but being a coder is shit.2 -
Me: I'm gonna work on my personal project on my lunch hour!
*spends whole hour investigating one brand-new bug and fixing it*
Me: :/1 -
Android developers will understand my pain.
When you don't ask android studio to auto create those functions in your activity.java code. But studio does it for you anyways.
Then comes Lint, it will give you a warning on the very same code, that studio commented over the default function.
Damn you studio/lint...get over your differences.

Where has the Fira code font been all my life? It's epic and free.

I frequently feel like crap when I have coder's block, and I can't for the life of me get another line of code down... I hope I'm not the only one that feels this way.1

Life is too short to have commented codes; don't want to go back to it once it shows up in the static code analysis scan9

TFW you get to work and your colleague is like : "Hey boyo you got bugS to fix on that code we pushed into production"
As I was just having a better outlook on my life -
Well finally install gentoo in aarch64 mode onto my rpi3. I wanna learn python because that'd make my life easier. I also wanna code a web game using js. I also want to finish some more parts of my hobby operating system. And maybe rework my dad's website because the code is a mess.

I CANNOT STAND HTML
I am learning HTML and CSS through Cengage and honestly it ruins my life. I type in the code EXACTLY as the textbook has it, but apparently its still wrong5 -
Write code without thinking. Just think of the thing and everything just write itself. Work hard for like 5 years and have the money to lay it easy for the rest of my life....
Who dosnt want that... -
For coding advice
Don't stop thinking
Keep asking how and why a thing works
Learn the logic
Pick any one language
Write some code, do mistake, fix, learn and repeat
Do keep a balance of coding and real life ,playing games are necessary
Do exercise as well....
Maybe some more things we can , but most important is
Do what you love not what others love.
It's your life live and code your way... -
tech lead: answers a question of mine, thats arguably stupid
later after VP comes in to make some decision on how they want it
tech lead: sry wrong instructions, pls see new instructions
code monkey life is rough1 -
Someone help me get a damn job so I can continue trashing millenial technological abortions and return to making code.. or something LOL
I'm finished mean mugging hulio and need to get on with life !23 -
Perfect job would be work life balance.
Colleagues are helpful.
The existing project are having clean architecture and code structure that won’t confuse developer at all. -
Realise that your life is being wasted away and if you don’t code nonstop you’ll always fall behind everyone based on job requirements :) then you’ll always want to code something1
-
I definitely want to program/code for my career, creating things and solving problems is cool, but I just started doing game development and IT'S SO COOL. I may have messed up my plans for my life :/

A beautiful Friday night on an island with plenty of drinks and katsu!
Life is great sometimes! Don't code too hard guys. Have a drink!3 -
When my code works without any hich I feel like I can conquer the world.. But when it doesn't work after trying for so long, I feel like What am I doing with my life.

Just had a random nostalgia moment:
Childhood days playing wolfenstein 3d in the telephone cable modem internet times.
I clearly remember the first cheat code i used in my entire life for that game : ILM
What was your first cheat code and the first game that comes to your mind when talking about your childhood games :)2 -
I found it interesting cause honestly I don't think so I have skill that can pay my bills except programming :)...
So programming saves me... but with time I fell in love with code.. solving real life problems.. providing solutions.. Now Its like I am addict to code .. -
NO Place is my favorite place to code.
Almost all my life I feel that no place actually feet my preferences.. But here I go and live everyday waiting it's end.. -
I don't get the point writing SHIT code for a project you're paid less than you expected! Shouldn't you use that oportunity and improve your knowledge, instead of complicating your and life of a person who will take care of that code later? The fuck! You work in a TEAM and not in a stupid shithole of your dumb ass!

Spent half a day working on some code to add some functionality. Ran into some binary assumptions and found workarounds. Got everything implemented and close to start testing things. Not a lot of code, but a lot of places that needed careful attention to detail. Started looking at the final code needed for initializing things. Found that all the code I wrote would not be needed if I just initialize some things differently. Realized I don't need all this code. The code is literally redundant.
git checkout <changed files>
Okay, now I understand the code better. I am ahead because I am not maintaining code I don't need. Half a day of reading the code helps me understand everything that is there.
Life is good. 😀 -
I'm in love with F#, the tooling can be a little buggy if you're used to TypeScript or Java but before learning it I've never been able to solve a real life problem with less than 10 lines of code7
-
Why do you want to become a better programmer? For money? Or to make life easier?
I was going through this article - https://medium.freecodecamp.com/the...5 -
When I was started my journey in coding, what ever I do, I think about coding. Sleep code, eat code, dream code, dating code. Its become my usually nightmares.
Its become worst when I got stucked in coding. Ppl see me like a geek zombie.
Coding used to ruin my life.
But when my code working like charm, feel like god. I can do anything. 😂😂😂
Sometime l just love it, but most of the time I fucking hate it. -
Shitty code. Nothing makes me avoid coding more than seeing bad written obfuscated hard to debug code...
Look a fly. -
Obviously I'm just now beginning to learn, criticism not appreciated, lol.. Can anyone tell me like.. How to ACTUALLY edit github files in android studio???! Ive tried importing, copying and pasting the code, idk what to do maybe I'm just dumb who knows.. But I cannot for the life of me seem to get any of the code from github files to actually run once it's imported..6

Hey guys,
What books had the biggedt impact on how you live your life, conduct your business, the way you code or make decisions?
I'm reading "Zero to One" for the second time now and love reading it all over again.10 -
Project released to dev environment... None of my changes are in there. Check the TFS check-in history and the check-ins aren't the code I wrote for specific items. Don't know why, or how. My life is a lie.1

Let's say that you have (or had) a colleague that you utterly despise for whatever reason. Have you ever wrote convoluted or straight up spaghetti code on purpose just to make his/her life harder?
(I am aware that authoring bad code can bite you in the ass down the line, just curious to see if anyone ever went that far) -
I got this huge onboarding bonus with Airbnb. I wrote life changing artistic code that affects the lives of millions. Then I met this incredible hot chick and bought a house in Malibu.

I have some cool Javascript tricks that I believe when used extensively throughout your code will help reduce your file size and will be easier to read for you colleagues. Hopefully you find them useful day-to-day coding life. So share if it helps you.

Is asking the question on Stack Overflow 'how to insert <script> elements from .md comments in .css files to a nuxt.js-based site' a point where I should rethink my life and code design choices? Or should I see where this insanity will lead me?3

So this https://devrant.com/rants/7347385/...

I did some of the front-end and whole backend. build and manage the SQL + elasticsearch database. After all of this, only 17 lines of mother fu**er code ruined my life. The client is asking for code. And.... And... Can't say anymore.
