I did a fucking scientific study about fucking rants and found a fucking high correlation between the usage of "fuck" and the number of fucking upvotes.17

So Valve just released an update to Steam that includes a fork of WINE called Proton that allows Linux users to play and install Windows games as if they were native.
About 30 titles are currently officially supported but more are planned.30 -
Complaining about Chrome's RAM usage is like eating fast food.
It's good, it's fast, you love it, all day every day. Then you complain about being fat.
😂5 -
tl;dr Yes, we know the standard for RAM is getting higher; no, that doesn't mean you can increase your app's RAM usage for no good reason.
Homemade, terrible comic.5 -
Got my new phone a few weeks ago, it rocks a 11000 mAh battery.
Was sceptical as for how long it'd last anyways so charged it last Sunday to see how long it will last with my usage (few hours of devRanting, loads of signalling and quite some firefoxing plus Spotify a lot):
At 40 percent now 😯35 -
1) An increasing number of beards can be observed on the streets.
2) According to Netmarketshare, desktop Linux usage is at an all time high 2.18%.
Coincidence? I think not!2 -
Google: “Your websites must load the first byte in under 500ms and be fully loaded with no render blocking and local caching of all external site callouts to even begin to rank in Google searches.”
Me: “Ok, Google. Your wish is my command.”
*Looks at Chrome’s memory usage to load a blank page*7 -
can be explaned by space/time difference when you switch to standard usage vs the current you are in and violate a bit. lols1
-
Umidigi, kindly go fuck yourself.
When --> I <-- buy a phone, I should be the fucking one who decides if I'm allowed to install a motherfucking custom launcher.
Your phone is awesome (second full day with heavy usage == 53 percent battery) but on the launcher thing, go fuck yourself. Also go to hell. No, go fuck yourself IN hell, that's even better.29 -
When you create a bunch of objects in Java and it crashes because you're used to the memory usage of C's structs.3

"I want my API to return insults as error messages if they forget shit"
Uh no, I prefer helping them out by writing proper documentation than sending a giftbox with me flipping them off like Linus Fucking Torvalds for their spaghetti usage of your API5 -
Me: doing light browsing.
CPU Fan: increases frequency like crazy.
Me: opens task manager.
Windows 10: 60% cpu usage.
Me: sort processes by cpu usage; sum does not match.
Me: closes iTunes update window.
CPU usage: drops to less than 10%.
The update had already finished and the CPU usage was 60%!!!
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, APPLE?3 -
Im trying to brute force a rar i made Long ago, sadly i have forgotten the Passwort.
This is how it looks, when you to run it on the length 8-16 at the Same time(all posibilitys).
lets see how Long it will take.
I say 7 Days at 100% cpu usage😂😂8 -
There is this service that I want to use (wont name it for privacy/legal reasons) and I have created a trial account which gives me a limited access to their apis. However the usage is where things are interesting.
The api access is restricted to some 1000 calls per trial account. But also they have a explorer option which lets to have the functionality as a web app like a dashboard and the explorer usage has unlimited access.
Now since I didnt want to exhaust my api limit, I let my service call the explorer apis instead. Is this ethically wrong or it is the fault of the service providers that they have such a big gaping hole in their licensing?8 -
*dad's w10 computer running super slow*
*checks task manager*
100% disk usage
*checks whatever-the-advanced-system-monitor-is-called*
*Compattelrunner.exe is at the top of the list in disk usage*
*searches online to find what the hell that is*
"Compattelrunner.exe collects program telemetry information if opted in to the Microsoft EatASackOfDicks Customer Experience Fuckup"
Telemetry is supposed to be disabled on this computer.
What the fuck Microsoft, if you want to straight out lie to my face as a customer at least try to not be so obvious that you basically lock down my computer with your telemetry shit.3 -
Just added Kotlin plugin to my new android project and what do you know, CPU went to 100% of usage.
Aaand the winner is: Fucking Android Studio!19 -
Plans for 2019
- make my app good enough for prod usage
- find someone to help me with ui
- find someone to help me with marketing
- register my own company
- end my twenties
- maybe quit my 9/5 job by the end of the year
it's gonna be a fun year :)2 -
I've hit 20GB ram usage with chrome today, with a total of 6018 tabs, spanning across 10 virtual desktops, it took 3 minutes to onetab them into one. 😰19
-
Today - after a successful launch of my own GitLab-Server - I finished my other project!
It's a Resouce Panel for my Homeserver to check it's stats like:
- CPU usage
- RAM usage
- Network Traffic
- Disk Space
It works like a charm and only need php <3
If you guys want a download link, I'll send one in :)51 -
Just got my data from Spotify that I requested.
1.1MB of data that should contain 10 years of usage does not seem right at all.
I have seen other that have gotten their information, and it container every from the brands of their headphones to what voicecommand was used to play a song.
My report did not contain any of that.10 -
Windows 10 update: no more wifi, no more trackpad, 60MB more RAM usage when idle.
Thanks Microsoft!12 -
Found an actual usage for light themes: bright sunny days when you have the opportunity to work outside. Unfortunately however, this much exposure to sunlight hurts the developer4
-
We are building this big-data engine for a client's product for which we were using a cluster on GCP and they were billed ~1100$ for the last month's usage.
The CTO - the CHIEFFUCKING TECHNOLOGY OFFICER told us to hook up 5-6 laptops in our server room and create our own cluster because they cannot afford so much bill.6 -
TL;DR; I unfucked a micro sd used by a nintendo switch with one command: fsck
I had noticed that the nintendo switch displayed way more storage usage then it should. I didn't mind at first, but at some point I couldn't download any games. When I checked I saw some ridiculous storage usage.
According to the system, all games summed up ~20Gb, but >100Gb was in use? Sounds retarded, so I did the following:
* Plugged it into laptop
* Spend one our searching for a way to to access this seemingly unknown filesystem
* Find out this filesystem is actually exFAT
* Find out that 2/3 sd adapters suck
* check filesystem with dust (A visually more pleasing version of du)
* Find 20Gb of files, nothing hidden or whatever
* run fsck
* "File system contains some errors want me to fix then?"
* "Sure"
* check usage
* 17%
As for the reason why this happened in the first place, my guess is that the switch labels the whole segment of the card as used before downloading a game and it something goes wrong, it shits itself.
Anyways, fsck is a pretty useful command.1 -
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU APPLE?! THATS A SIXTH OF MY MOBILE DATA! WHERE IS THIS MUCH USAGE COMING FROM?????8
-
I just installed some anti-virus, little did i know it was also going to install their 'System "Speed up" software'
Was using 50% of my Disk Usage 40% of my ram and 100% of one of my CPUs ... great job at speeding up my system4 -
God of War comes out tomorrow.
Video Games are my passion, it's the reason I want to learn more about computers and technology. And each new major game title sparks new motivation.
What helps yall invigorated to improve?12 -
This is the state of desktop computing: When a web browser uses twice more RAM than a full virtual machine.
To be fair, I did have 5 windows with >10 tabs each, but still...13 -
My worst experience was at my job where they told me I have to move to a permanent position from 3 years of contracting without a specific offer.
Why is that bad? In my country it means approximatly 40% lower wage.
I came into the job with PHP knowledge when they were looking for Perl on a project one year behind schedule. I learned the language and finished working demo in 6 weeks.
After that, every project that was ever assigned to me was done within 5-15% of the allocated time. I'm not kidding here. My manager loved be, because I was reliable, fast and I even 'accidentaly' solved other problems, like for instance I developed simple syslog search tool and benchmarked zip algos for reading speed, and the fastest had 70% better compression than the algo used before (gzip into plzip on 1-2gb files). That solved anothet problem - syslog servers did not have enough disk space and they didn't have money to upgrade the server.
The number of projects I touched or developed was over 20.
I also lead and developed our team's most successful tool, that every customer was throwing money to buy, while cutting down costs everywhere.
And after three years of that, my manager says that there are no more money for contractors. And the only possibility is going for employment. Without any specific offer! Just 'we cant do this anymore'.
Which I understand, that can happen in corporation, but ffs after all I've done, I expected warmer attitude. Not like 'you may have to leave, since we do not really care'.
I liked the people there, even though the corporation environment was lacking in many respects, but I wanted to help our local branch with everything I could and they gave up on me like that.
So I started looking elsewhere and I found a startup which offered 6 times the money I had in my previous job and promises to relocate me to USA. Which is the best thing that has happened to me that year and second best in my whole life!3 -
Managed a 97% reduction in bandwidth usage for our internal host monitoring tool by converting the dashboard from using AJAX polling to websocket events.
Completely unnecessary but wanted an excuse to do some development with websockets. (:10 -
My mom's laptop is always on 80-90% CPU even in idle and it is obviously hella slow and I am the one who has to work with it usually (since my mom is too afraid to use any kind of technology and can't remember any of her passwords), I tried to solve it but I came to the conclusion that the problem is probably Windows 10 itself. Okay, the hardware is bad too but still.
I started thinking about installing Linux on it, but It's not my laptop and I do not want to mess it up and I never did it before.19 -
When I was 20, I coded for 24 hours straight, even ate at the computer, as a dare to finish all the tasks in one go. I was successful.
Now I'm 25 and I have no time for such stuff. Kinda miss that3 -
Hate how every time I have an ubuntu box meet inode limits is always due to Linux Headers... Boss wanted me to add more storage to his box because he was at capacity..
apt-get autoremove
Drive went from 100% usage to 39%..9 -
Build an ai who will be my friend...
And protect me like the terminator during the machine apocalypse2 -
Noticed my RAM usage was around 41% when just browsing internet. So, getting more RAM was a good move, until I saw the usage shoot to 52%.
And you already know who eats that much RAM.
PS: Maybe it's some extension, because I just have 2 tabs open and killing that process didn't kill any tab.8 -
I like how devs keep on shitposting Windows rants, but never switch to Linux.
Windows will never get better, you have to give it up :)9 -
Best AppStore changlog I’ve read all week:
“Temporarily disable sending usage statistics data”
Why? What happened! I must know more!2 -
Some nice person created a Github repo to show some usage examples for a service.
He is even nicer because, besides some example credentials, he added live credentials too.
But I think they are safe: he commented them out, so nobody can read them.2 -
Spent a month working on a website that relied on crawled data
Got the memory leaks and usage down from 700mb to ~150mb
CPU usage from ~100% to <5%
Shrink-wrapped the DB requirements based on data
Created self-supporting services and what not
When everything FINALLY worked good enough for me to look at it and go "damn, this actually worked"
the whole monitoring sys got dyed in red :v
A quick look up and my crawlers exhausted my godaddy's per-user db limits.
Kill me.
Just fuckin kill me.7 -
So Android Studio + Ubuntu VM = 16GB RAM are not enough, but how about Android Studio INSIDE Ubuntu VM, that will teach that bitch to stick to 4GB RAM usage!2
-
I don’t know how it’s possible I use nearly 300 GB wifi on one day without being home.... This can’t be correct at all. Other days around 30/70 gb and not home 296...21
-
Two actual lines of code I stumbled upon...
static ArchiveAbstract ARCHIVE_TRUE = new ArchiveTrue();
static ArchiveAbstract ARCHIVE_FALSE = new ArchiveFalse();
Ok you might think, what is going on? Searching for it's usage yields exactly a single case:
if(someVar instanceof ArchiveTrue ? true : false)
So someone managed to introduce 3 new classes... instead of using a simple boolean.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻2 -
Fucking piece of shit windows 10!
Screw you to hell!
Disk usage : 100%
Memory usage: 60%
CPU usage: 2%
Sluggish as hell! And downloading updates without even asking! How fucking dare you!
Stuck with this shit just because of Photoshop and Illustrator.11 -
Has this ever happened to any job applicant here:
Job requirements:
Java, angulaj js, TDD, node js and demonstrated usage of noSql DBMS.
You qualify for the job and only to find the work mainly requires php1 -
After being live multiple years supporting only Safari, Firefox, and Chrome, one customer wanted IE support. After taking a close look at the usage numbers, and discussing with us front-end devs, our product guy shot it down. Pop the champagne!2

Reinstalling Android Studio.
It takes a while.
So you take a rest, exercise a little. Sure, it will installed when you'll come back ready to throw yourself into deep work, with fresh energy.
You come back.
There is a pop up: Do you want to send usage data to google ? Nothing installed yet.
Only Yes/No option. Where is the "Fuck you" option?12 -
Summer is about to start.
I want to learn more over the break. I think I found the best way for me to learn. Apps. I use sololearn and Enki.
I know I'm cheap, but I dont have the money to spare on udemy.
Has anyone found any better apps though?21 -
Currently playing "the IT guy" for my uncle. I'm supposed to "speed up" the laptop. It's a low tier Toshiba from about 5 years ago, that while idle sits at about 100% CPU usage and 80% RAM usage.
From what I can tell, it has NEVER been turned off since I set it up for him 4 years ago, or unplugged..16 -
I find it funny on Windows, Android studio reaches as much as 12GB of ram usage, while on Linux two instances barely take up to 3GB
Either java sucks on Windows or AS sucks in memory usage but happened to be saved by Linux9 -
Just found out about Yue, a GUI library for Node.js, Lua and C++ (and owners of the "gui" package on npm).
It is so awesome! The RAM usage is so low compared to Electron! Of course it has its limitations and doesn't use HTML + CSS + JavaScript, but you can still build really good applications with it!
I'll show you what I'm making at the moment soon, so stay tuned!
Anyways I've built the same application in Electron and Yue, here's the comparison of the RAM usage:16 -
I'm migrating data from an old software to a new one I wrote.
Old database it's in Access (yeah, fuck). When I opened one table, the VM hung up and I opened the task manager on MADE
What.The.Fuck.Are.You.Doing?8 -
When I started on the job I was placed underneath a senior employee.
Never got as much training as I wanted to.
Bc less then a week later they messaged in the group chat they were quiting.3 -
just so you know, $25/month is NOT a pay as you go plan - its a $25/month plan
why the hell would i pay for $25 a month on top of my usage charges
fuckin 🤡s4 -
1.5 hours of cleaning my mechanical keyboard after 2 years of usage. Kill me!!! But damn daskeaboard looks sexy when clean5

My computer professor has told us our future grades depend on who ever can beat him at soul caliber 6 when it comes out.
Are all programmers this goofy?2 -
A functional system bar for my window manager in Go. It's so light on system resources that htop can barely report its system usage. Also, I haven't changed anything in the code in a year and it still works perfectly.2
-
The more i use git.. more the fun it is.. Just found out the usage of rebase and cherry-pick.. I have read about the implications of these commands in a shared repo.. But it is fun to use it in a solo repo..3

Okay, so today I've taught a colleague how to use a simple office ruler to measure AWS server's CPU usage :) We needed to figure out whether CPU% spikes correlate with error message in logs an d latency spikes. Once again a ruler was the perfect tool for the job.
P.S. no, CPU% spikes did not correlate to errors in logs1 -
What a difference three lines of code can make. That's the typical case of "that seemed to be a good idea". I don't know how did I think it would work out on the long run. Next step will be reduceing the enourmous CPU usage as well.3
-
Ran a script on production to scrape ~1000 sites continously and update our ~50.000 productions from the data. On the same server as our site was running. Needless to say, with traffic and scraping, our server had almost 100% CPU and ram usage all the time for 2 weeks until I realised my fuckup2
-
Devrants mobile data usage is so low. Really love don't needing a good connection and don't using to much of my mobile data when using it :)
Also: Grammarly STOP auto-correcting devrant to servant ALL THE TIME...5 -
Which Linux flavour should I install in my newly ordered ssd ?
My usage will be
vscode, chrome, mongodb,
android studio
Please take consideration of ease in installing hardware drivers. Didn't want to waste so much time on it.26 -
Bought a new android phone and spent an hour:
* uninstalling apps
* disabling automatic updates
* disabling recommendations
* disabling sending anonymous usage data
* disabling notifications
It's like playing hide and seek but without fun4 -
While checking out CPU usage on my android a weird process called dex2oat popped up. Curious about it. I did some research. This is what I found.
Absolutely fascinating stuff -
People complain about the high RAM usage of IDEs in general, particularly Jetbrain's one.
... They have never experienced Google Chrome ...
Greetings from vacation btw ^^4 -
Started a new job a month ago. I’m the only real frontend developer here. I come from a company with 10+. Now i’m working with a old ux guy. Mr. UX teached me the usage of a styleguide. This styleguide is a fucking mess. The legacy code is a fucking mess. They way of working, up for improvement.
I have a dream...4 -
I wonder how big is the github usage spike around the end of semesters cause us students are determine to fit a semester worth of work in the last week.1
-
Tried to figure out why my computer was being slow and lagging earlier. Thought it may have been a bad update to the kernel I recently did, or an update to a package.
No, it was chrome and its horrible memory usage.7 -
Decided to go flexbox despite issues with Safari 6 (global usage at 0.02%). The boss, its wife, a friend of them and a coworker NEVER UPDATED Safari on its devices and send tons of angry emails with captures of the broken site. This is the biggest 0.02% ever seen!!3

I’ve worked at six companies over my 10 years of professional programming. All companies say they track internet usage of the employees. This is the first company I have worked for that sends you a weekly summary of sites that you visit.5 -
Some people in the company (3000+ people) didn't know how to use static variables (c#) in a thread-safe manner which resulted in production problems.
Only possible way to solve this in management's mind?:
Disable the usage of not read-only static variables via quality control...1 -
Started the year well :D
Making an app to view our home energy usage and output (solar panels).
Raspberry pi is connected to our energy meter and is used as a server.
But some of you may not like this...
The Pi is running Windows IOT :P2 -
Hello guys. Today I bring you my list of top 3 programs that use too much memory
🪟 Windows 10+
⚛️ Web browsers, Electron
🐋 Docker containers
Honorable mention: ☕Java
The developers of those programs should put more effort into optimizing memory usage14 -
Do you know that KDE is more lighter than MATE? In the screenshot the RAM usage you can see is from a live. The same test on the same PC with MATE take 900 MB and with GNOME 1,5 GB. Test made with the latest LTS of Ubuntu.5

Imagine being a software engineer:
You invent a new CMS called "WordPress"
and you decide to store all internal links as complete URLs in the fucking database.
PEAK BRAIN USAGE22 -
This cryptocurrencies madness.
My CPU usage gone wild only for accessing 1 goddamn news website
Fuck you coin-have.com to provide the tools to those greedy scumbags8 -
What's up with all of these unstable updates at the same time from Google and Microsoft?
First Microsoft releases an update that deletes My Documents
Then chrome on windows gets updated with a "eat your disk in addition to ram usage" that freezes my PC.
Like whatever happened to testing before releasing, least some minimal testing...
Then again, it's a fucking Microsoft product... -.-5 -
Please, can someone explain the term "enterprise" to me. I work in a corporation, I hear it twice a week, I develop it, and still have no idea what it means.13
-
Honestly, I spent years trying to make the most out of every functionality that the languages provided... After 7 years of that, last 3 I only use the most basic things and I can say: it is far superior to keep things simple. I'm making deadlines in a third of expected time, debugging is a piece of cake, and adding new features usually takes about 5 minutes thanks to very simple and straightforward design.
TL;DR: Keep It Simple Stupid
#kiss #suckless1 -
Oh, I've got one.
Selfie trash can. It captures your selfie and uploads it to social media whenever you the throw trash, to promote usage of trash can!6 -
You ever have to work with people that are worse than you? and yet everyone in the group sees them as more competent? So much so that they get to be involved more with the projects than you are?
I hate this feeling, I'm just as good. -
It's kinda cool how a $5 VPS (Linode Nanode) is able to run a vanilla Minecraft Spigot server for like 6-7 people and still can serve some basic stuff just fine. I get monitoring warnings about >90% CPU usage sometimes, but everything is more or less lagless.
Time to try hosting some other games: CS1.6, Doom Classic, and UT2004 up next.6 -
I - Lets move your database to mlab. They offer 512mb database for free, every month. That is beyond your lifetime usage
Client - No. They Steal Data ( Like Facebook )
And client don't know a shit about mlab and development. Aware of quite a few names, bigrock, godaddy, bluehost. Even AWS is not in the list
- mlab is mongodb database service4 -
I'm worried. I would love to internship for my current boss over the summer.
But there are only 4 spots and 10 people competing.
She basically wants an assistant to help with her photography gig. But many of the skills she's asking for are graphic design related minus the website building.
Fingers crossed that what little knowledge I have there can be enough to get me free housing for 8 weeks. Would also love the chance to build a website. Here's to the interview tomorrow.2 -
I'm pretty sure istockphoto is mining bitcoin! Visited that website twice and the damn VM started freezing and CPU usage went up to 70% ....2
-
I have never really understood the true meaning or usage of the term "passive aggressive".
Is this email passive aggressive? Or just a bit sad?3 -
First question in a job interview should be " when you are not familiar with a certain code do you use find-usage or freak out like a little girl" - I have a coworker that freaks out and makes me crazy1
-
Looks like my users are enjoying themselves. Bringing my poor dedicated server to a load average of 72/8 at full CPU usage.
If only I wasn't just running an open source project by myself with only crowd-source money to rely on for server costs :v -
Never tell 60 users on a demo to "click on this button" at the same time.
Infra went "poof". No time to auto scale in this scenario.
Usual usage of app : 4 to 5 personns who do actions in the windows of 2 seconds.8 -
Respect to the devs of this app, noticed a changelog entry "Improved memory usage".
More devs should take ram consumption into account! -
What the best database solution for web and smartphones dev?
Is mysql the good choice?
I’m an “old” dev with old usage, php-mysql-JavaScript.
Is it a 2018 solution or am i a dinosaur?
All data will be stored on server side. Web and smartphone app as client.
Thanks for your experience sharing.6 -

99% disk usage? Ah, Windows is updating. Guess I'll just go ahead and get nothing done then. Oh, devRant!1
-
Is it just me or does 16GB RAM feel like overkill on Linux?
I've only seen the RAM usage go up to 6GB at most.
Kinda wish I could just take that 8GB card and stick it into my desktop.13 -
I am pretty much a designer.
I hope I didn't give others bad experiences~
Oh well I always loudly rant and get insulting when I see comic sans (in wrong usage) or ugly websites (not old or weird but old looking AND overdesigned 😓).
Probably that's what's most annoying when you're talking about me as a designer.5 -
Made my first open source contribution today. 6 months into my degree. It was just editing a README with a proper description of the game that was created but good practice to get more familiar with the flow and usage of everything in Github.2

I wrote a Rust script in 10 minutes or so that processes several GiB's big ISO files and it calculates its values so fast, that most time is spent waiting for the HDD! Look at the CPU usage and the disk read/write stats :D
(No, the picture is not fake, it's a real screenshot from my desktop edited with Gimp)7 -
When you are working with some one else computer, open the task manager and see 48% RAM usage... Start thinking: "there must be something wrong here!". Than realize he/she has 4Gb of RAM.3

For everyone, who uses any IntelliJ based IDE: Ctrl + Click on a method or variable, you will see all uses of that var or method. If you are clicking a usage of it you will jump to the method reference, even from libraries or for example from the Java runtime library.3

Stopped running Grunt ( Task runner for JavaScript ) process, watching files for changes
Memory usage dropped by around 1.5-2 GB 😑2 -
I'd like to talk about my first impression of the new product of Microsoft :
"New Edge Browser"
I just wanted to take a shallow glance at this browser, and it was horribly awesome in contrary with my expectations.
The design and animations and smooth transitions, ease of migration from chrome and enhanced UI were the things that aroused my interest at the first 5 minutes of usage, as a frontend developer, I'm so much eager to dig up more in it. Share your experience and opinions with me 😉22 -
So just sitting here watching my windows VM's cpu usage to monitor was seems to be causing some stuttering and then out of fucking nowhere the default photo's app pops and and claims 96% of the CPU...
I understand computers are weird but how the hell does an app randomly start and jump to such a high CPU usage?8 -
Windows got upgraded to creators update.
Ever since it has updated, the battery life has decreased drastically, laptop used to last around 8.5 hours of daily usage, now its down to 3.
WTF, man.
I know surface has got its pro's, but shit, 5 hours of battery loss is no joke and certainly a big task to achieve.4 -
Was explaining the usage of   and white space in HTML to a confused nondev colleague. He later asked how come there is white space, when this program you use to code is a black..while pointing to my dark themed text editor.

Can’t wait for the next year to be attacked by pop-ups asking me if I agree with the site using cookies. Now more than ever, because everybody cares about cookies, and it’s totally not going to ruin the user experience.
I can’t wait for another law that will force sites to ask users if they agree with usage of JavaScript.4 -
Can someone tell me what's with the yellow rubber ducks? What is the story behind it ( or its usage which , i guess, is related to debugging)?4

Asked a provider for an endpoint that returns customer usage
Provider sends back an endpoint that takes 1 minute to return one days worth of data for 1 customer and asks we limit concurrency to 3... we have 3000+ customers with them
(1 minute * 3000 customers) / 3 = 16 hours to pull yesterday's numbers
Hope we don't get behind7 -
How difficult is it to get one thing right -v and --version should show bloody software version, not give me the usage prompt.8

Seriously, I never understood all the memes about google chrome eating ram. I am used to opening like tons of tabs and my general ram usage never exceeds 4GBs. What is the fuckery with all hatred against chrome, someone please explain!9

I once got into a full argument with this guy who claimed that no-one would collect his usage data because he's not interesting enough.
He then called me stupid when I told him he was wrong.8 -
Docker for Mac loves burning my CPU. Even if I delete all images and containers and do a fresh reinstall and JUST have Docker for Mac running, I always see crazy CPU usage on my Late 2016 15" Macbook Pro.6

So instead of downgrading I tried a last chance (why not, system was fucked already) by installing unity, yes the same shit that ubuntu team removed from ubuntu 17.10 as major upgrade.

Dear notebook manufacturers,
do you ever fucking think of how users actually use your notebooks in a company? Almost every company makes use of docking stations. Sooo... Instead of killing my battery over time by being constantly connected to power via the docking station. What do you think of doing some kind of scheduled/more intelligent charging or a charging range? I mean I dont stare 4 hours a day onto my 14 inch notebook display and then think "Oh I need to charge, better use my docking station" and go charging it for 90 minutes whilst staring at two 4k monitors and then unplug everything. My notebook now lives for 20 minutes without a power source... I cant even do proper presentations without using power cable... Please... Do something...

If you use tty (no X or graphic env) and use tmux as terminal multiplexer -> avoid using mpv in it.
.
When you use -> mpv --vo=drm "video name" in tmux session and want to pause video -> cpu usage will climb up to 100% on single core.
(can make laptop warm)
(I don't know what exactly cause this but my theory is, tmux cant redraw after video is pause and it keep trying forever and end up using cpu 100% on single core)
.
Solution
- use mpv on another tty which you didn't run tmux.
- example : tty1: all stuff, tty2: mpv.
And cpu usage will be normal after video is pause.4 -

TL;DR When talking about caching, is it even worth considering try and br as memory efficient as possible?
Context:
I recently chatted with a developer who wanted to improve a frameworks memory usage. It's a framework creating discord bots, providing hooks to events such as message creation. He compared it too 2 other frameworks, where is ranked last with 240mb memory usage for a bot with around 10.5k users iirc. The best framework memory wise used around 120mb, all running on the same amount of users.
So he set out to reduce the memory consumption of that framework. He alone reduced the memory usage by quite some bit. Then he wanted to try out ttl for the cache or rather cache with expirations times, adding no overhead, besides checking every interval of there are so few records that should be deleted. (Somebody in the chat called that sort of cache a meme. Would be happy , if you coukd also explain why that is so😅).
Afterwards the memory usage droped down to 100mb after a Around 3-5 minutes.
The maintainer of the package won't merge his changes, because sone of them really introduce some stuff that might be troublesome later on, such as modifying the default argument for processes, something along these lines. Haven't looked at these changes.
So I'm asking myself whether it's worth saving that much memory. Because at the end of the day, it's cache. Imo cache can be as big as it wants to be, but should stay within borders and of course return memory of needed. Otherwise there should be no problem.
But maybe I just need other people point of view to consider. The other devs reasoning was simple because "it shouldn't consume that much memory", which doesn't really help, so I'm seeking you guys out😁 -
Too mainstream usage just got upper level, Why? Some guys are making a website with Bash scripts kind of a nice move they got there. I feel proud1

I get so tired of people hating on PHP, Javascript and promoting Python or C#/Java.
Python is basically Perl with slightly different syntax plus has py2/py3 issues. And suffers from pip like js does from npm.
Java/C# started as application languages, while PHP started in web servers (again from Perl but at least it now has full object support). So comparing apples and oranges is one thing.
Another one is that people don't seem to know much about PHP / js (and tbh not even about the languages they are promoting) when they try to hate. That just comes off as lazy and borderline idiotic. Don't be that guy.
If you have had a bad experience, maybe you need to open the documentation instead of copying code from stack overflow.
Again, lazy and unprofessional.
Devs are supposed to be able to find the most efficient solution, that takes as little code as possible, not as little time from them when they arent familiar with the subject.
