Me: You know what my least favorite programming language is?
Friend: HTML?
Me: No that's not a programming language
Friend: ohh haha I forgot its like Pluto20 -
Person: HTML is a programming language
Me: No it's not
Person: Yes it is it can compute things
Me: No it can't, and what do you mean?
Person: Have you ever heard of a script tag
Me: That's not fucking HTML that's JavaScript.14 -

That's when the internet connectivity is down!5 -
programming languages are not designed to talk to computers, they are designed to be readable by other programmers.

I helped my friends in my C programming class set up their IDEs today.
Them: Do I need the JDK?
Me: We’re writing in C, not Cava

Manager: I read an article today
Dev: oh here we go….
Manager: We must pivot to only functional programming, which means only using functions instead of classes
Dev: Actually functional programming is a bit more nuanced tha—
Manager: Any use of classes going forward is not allowed. Everything must use functions! Classes are an outdated way of programming, using classes is why we continue to miss our deadlines. Functional programming is lean, classes are waterfall.
Dev: What about the libraries we use? Many of those use classes
Manager: Wrap them in a function then, that way they are pure which is one of the requirements of functional programming. You would know that if you spent as much personal time as I do keeping up with the times.34 -
How to start coding (for fucktards)
1: Choose desired programming language like python or java
2: Search on youtube or google: "<language> tutorial beginner"
3: if step 2 was to hard for you...
STOP learning how to program, you are hopeless
4: Instead of asking everyone on how to learn programming, just fucking DO IT already!
Seriously, if you don't even know how to use google and youtube to educate yourself programming is NOT FOR YOU!9 -
I'm currently programming on the cms REST api for the privacy site (its finally getting somewhere by the way) and I just noticed that I'm programming way cleaner and WITH comments.
My subconcious is probably keeping the fact that the entirety of devRant will see my code in a not too far future 😅20 -
In database course we should be thaught "database", not "MySQL"
In object-oriented programming course we should be thaught "object-oriented programming", not "Java"
And so on and so forth8 -
My father just told me that I'm not a good programmer, because there are kids out there, who are younger than me and know more programming languages.
Besides the fact that the number of programming languages one knows has nothing to do with programming skills, I just said: "I wanna see that kid.", because I already knew his answer.
"Well, I never said there are many of these kids."
*facepalm*9 -
What if your programming language would be chosen by The Sorting Hat from Harry Potter?
You would sit like:
*please not php, please not php, please not php*3 -
In IT-Class:
Random: Ey watcha doin?
Me: Programming. What else?
Random: Oh, you're such a nerd...
Me: Programming is fun! I really like it.
Random: Please don't say this is your hobby...
Me: It is.
Random: Bruuh... *goes away*
Why the fuck are you here, if you're not interested in programming???
I don't understand such people.13 -

What was the biggest lies you heard about programming or programmers life.
Mine was: “programming is easy and high paying job.”
No it is not.12 -
I'm a newbie when it comes to programming. The thing I like about devRant is that I'm learning how not to be "that guy" from everyone's complaints.
Here's to devRant teaching us newbs how to not make as much of a mess of things.8 -
It was the time of the 90s when one created HTML with frames. During an HTML exam we had 1 hour to create a website with 3 frames. Top, left, main. Some aligned random images and some formatted text. Kind of boring, I know. So I finished early and handed in my diskette with my homepage. To make it easy for him I added my name and class to the title.
When we got our grades I was in for a surprise since I had expected a good grade. I asked him why I didn't get a good grade. He kind of shouted at me that my task was perfectly done but I shouldn't have written my name in the title but name and address of this school. It is not a really dramatic thing but I always hated when teachers quietly assumed stuff and didn't tell us. And then handed out bad graded for totally unrelated stuff.3 -
Mom: You gave our keyboard a virus with your programming! You're not allowed to use the computer any more!
(the keyboard was 10 years old)2 -
Me: Taking online course for programming. Think it's not that hard.
PC: Coded programm runs good like in the tutorial.
Me: Wow I can code now.
Just printed "Hello World"4 -
Does anyone else not enjoy pair programming? As an introvert who prefers to "work alone" and someone who has to look stuff up frequently, even things I "should know by now", I find pair programming very anxiety-inducing. I'm always wondering if the person I'm programming with thinks I'm an idiot/imposter.8

So here I am at 4am ranting about not being able to sleep after having drank some at 26 -
I feel sorry for those students who took computer studies and not having to enjoy a slightest bit of programming 😕3

How old were you when you started programming?
I'm curious about that... I want to introduce childs to programming but I'm not sure which age is the correct one to begin.52 -
I mean I've read rants on here about people not knowing the basics of programming, but 15 lectures in I would assume that the other students knew the difference between a char and a string at least.
Guess not.3 -
My computing teacher says that html is his favourite programming language to teach.

NEW 6 Programming Language 2k16
1. Go
Golang Programming Language from Google
Let's start a list of six best new programming language and with Go or also known by the name of Golang, Go is an open source programming language and developed by three employees of Google and the launch in 2009, very cool just 3 people.
Go originated and developed from the popular programming languages such as C and Java, which offers the advantages of compact notation and aims to keep the code simple and easy to read / understand. Go language designers, Robert Griesemer, Rob Pike and Ken Thompson, revealed that the complexity of C ++ into their main motivation.
This simple programming language that we successfully completed the most tasks simply by librariesstandar luggage. Combining the speed of pemrogramandinamis languages such as Python and to handalan of C / C ++, Go be the best tools for building 'High Volume of distributed systems'.
You need to know also know, as expressed by the CTO Tokopedia namely Mas Leon, Tokopedia will switch to GO-lang as the main foundation of his system. Horrified not?
eh not watch? try deh see in the video below:

2. Swift
Swift Programming Language from Apple
Apple launched a programming language Swift ago at WWDC 2014 as a successor to the Objective-C. Designed to be simple as it is, Swift focus on speed and security.
Furthermore, in December 2015, Swift Apple became open source under the Apache license. Since its launch, Swift won eye and the community is growing well and has become one of the programming languages 'hottest' in the world.
Learning Swift make sure you get a brighter future and provide the ability to develop applications for the iOS ecosystem Apple is so vast.

3. Rust
Rust Programming Language from Mozilla
Developed by Mozilla in 2014 and then, and in StackOverflow's 2016 survey to the developer, Rust was selected as the most preferred programming language.
Rust was developed as an alternative to C ++ for Mozilla itself, which is referred to as a programming language that focus on "performance, parallelisation, and memory safety".
Rust was created from scratch and implement a modern programming language design. Its own programming language supported very well by many developers out there and libraries.
4. Julia
Julia Programming Language
Julia programming language designed to help mathematicians and data scientist. Called "a complete high-level and dynamic programming solution for technical computing".
Julia is slowly but surely increasing in terms of users and the average growth doubles every nine months. In the future, she will be seen as one of the "most expensive skill" in the finance industry.
5. Hack
Hack Programming Language from Facebook
Hack is another programming language developed by Facebook in 2014.
Social networking giant Facebook Hack develop and gaungkan as the best of their success. Facebook even migrate the entire system developed with PHP to Hack
Facebook also released an open source version of the programming language as part of HHVM runtime platform.
6. Scala
Scala Programming Language
Scala programming termasukbahasa actually relatively long compared to other languages in our list now. While one view of this programming language is relatively difficult to learn, but from the time you invest to learn Scala will not end up sad and disappointing.
The features are so complex gives you the ability to perform better code structure and oriented performance. Based programming language OOP (Object oriented programming) and functional providing the ability to write code that is capable of evolving. Created with the goal to design a "better Java", Scala became one behasa programming that is so needed in large enterprises.3 -

It was fun in school days programming, I used to write code randomly then use GOTO to sequence it.

I have a confession to make. When i started programming it was done in my room all alone for around 6 months. I started watching porn while programming. And eventually only watched porn while coding to a point where I got turned on by programming.
I'm not sure if this further stimulated my love for programming or dimmed it. But sex and coding are now linked in my brain.7 -

Is computer science necessary? How many of you, in the programming/development field, have not studied CS?14

A lot of my friends have tried to get into programming, for various reasons. The reason why many of them end up quitting it soon is that they don't understand that programming is thinking, not typing.3

When you're a CS student and you're stuck doing an internship where you're not doing any programming 😲6

First year: intro to programming, basic data structures and algos, parallel programming, databases and a project to finish it. Homework should be kept track of via some version control. Should also be some calculus and linear algebra.
Second year:
Introduce more complex subjects such as programming paradigms, compilers and language theory, low level programming + logic design + basic processor design, logic for system verification, statistics and graph theory. Should also be a project with a company.
Year three:
Advanced algos, datastructures and algorithm analysis. Intro to Computer and data security. Optional courses in graphics programming, machine learning, compilers and automata, embedded systems etc. ends with a big project that goes in depth into a CS subject, not a regular software project in java basically.4 -
When the people ask about the dificulty to programming.
Me: well depend to the language that you use to build the app.
People: well in spanish?
Me: what(?), programming language, like c, java and others
People: ah, the pc say me that needs java upgrade.
Me: (smile and forget it), look is not superman behind you?. -
Read "How to implement a programming language" (http://lisperator.net/pltut) and it was very cool and enlightening. I have decided to use what I learned to make a math evaluator with a proper lexer and extensible library and stuff like that. Not a full programming language but a nice and advanced math evaluator.10

My junior high school computer programming (Visual Basic) teacher.
She was the spoiled brat of our head teacher. Had just graduated and gotten her bachelor degree. Didn't know jack shit about programming or teaching. Would constantly mock and belittle us for not being able to answer the questions and didn't actually teach us anything.4 -
Does anyone know to get rid of a programming CURSE?

You know that web development realy took the wrong turn, when complex java project compile way faster, than simple javascript one.
Not to say that javascript is interpreted programming language.6 -
Not directly programming related, but damn if I'm not going to start signing off all my emails with "consider it and perform" from now on.5

Not really a rant, but:
Me, programming in unity using C#: well if I add that library, My life will get a little bit easier, but the final APK will be 2MB heavier because of it.

I know there are different ways of learning programming, but I see students actually taking notes from a programming books and highlighting important bits with a Pilot marker. (and they're not reading fundamental stuff)

Life is a constant battle of not knowing whether I want to quit programming forever, or if I just need 8 hours sleep.1

I'm studying Computer Science and Engineering in Uni.
People don't understand the most fundamental principles of programming at all. Variables and functions are like a foreign language to them.
I get that not everyone knows everything but if you decide to go to uni to study programming, and you have never programmed before. Are you really in the right place?17 -
I've seen a few posts on here; exclaiming their disdain when it comes to people finding out about how good they are with computers. And while yes Programming has nothing to do with "fixing" computers; I myself don't mind fixing other people's computers. It's fun and it's usually not completely related to programming. So that means I'm not really doing my job outside of the office.5

Working on big project during summer paid intership. A lot stuff I have learned there, not just programming, but also model design, team planning etc.2

I'm in a programming school that gives only projects in C and a method to learn quickly.
Then we don't have official web classes or anything so we have "Labs" or "Clubs" and last time I was at a web programming club, leaded by students (because it gives me some more credits).
I was very surprised because they began to try to learn us the Javascript without talking about DOM.
And their explications about server-side and client-side codes were not clear (and obviously not exhaustive).
I have some (not a lot neither) experience in web programming so I helped him to make his course more understandable but I can't believe that these courses are given by students who don't have any idea of what's web programming...3 -
My dad: I don't know why you like programming... you write lines of meaningless things, there is no logic behind.
Me: ...Actually, it's not true... ehm... it doesn't matter... (in my mind: you would not understand)1 -
When are people going to understand that programming is not about quickly putting something together?
Programming may have its utility in helping us out building solutions, but that's a secondary function of it.
Ultimately and abstractly, as MIT professors said, it's about the imperative paradigm of solving problems.
I really dislike it when people treat programming as if it were a toolbox. It is a great engineering feat. That's like saying math is just about numbers. No, it is about concepts. We're thinkers, not doers.4 -
I'm looking for a kind of "lorem ipsum" but not for text, for code. Some kind of random code generator with configurable language to test code rendering, compare programming fonts, etc. Any suggestions?8

I really enjoy programming but I don't care about having the latest smartphone or the more powerfull computer. I'm not a tech guy, not even a geek... Sometimes people don't understand me for that, am I the only one ?1

Important rule of programming: don't swallow exception and provide details for troubleshooting.

"Wow! Programming must be easy! Why did you charge us costly?"
Just because I work at home and talking to myself does not mean it easy...
PS. even now I still feel like noob in programming5 -
So I dont have any programming friends really. Any trick to making any? 😬 Apparently I keep getting a 404 error: friend not found. xD6

So,
Yesterday was Google CodeJam's Kickstart event ( or something like that ).
Participated in competitive programming for the first time. It was kinda fun I guess...
Nope I still hate competitive programming. I like being a laid back programmer who develops in his own pace.
I know it's not what industry wants but I can't jst go for competitive programming.
On the positive note, I started using goto in C++ because of it and created a better Graph library than I had before 🤗🤗
P.S. I did read on how to use goto and when to not use it. I guess my usage was fine... Or better yet, IT WORKED 😜😂
Well, I am done as far as competitive programming goes... 😭😭 -
I've chosen system/embedded programming because I liked system programming and did not like anything connected with web, frontend or UI.
So far it seems like it was a good choice. Even though web was not such a clusterfuck before, it was already repulsive. -
Programming while drunk:

I shouldn't rant while crunk let alone program 😂🙄5 -
Why do popular media paint "programming" as easy... this is a very big deciet. please let stop this lies.
programming is not for everyone, not everybody can code.
and please dump the f**king "Girls can code" slogan.
there is no need for the hype.13 -

Honestly I love videos on YouTube that's sped up footage of someone programming a game and talking over it explaining what was happening or what they were thinking but I have only found a few channels that do it.. Hopson is one with his Mincraft in a week being my fav.. I just wish there was more..2

If you were forced to not use an electronic device for programming purposes ever again, what would your job be?
For example, I'd study medicine and try to become a surgeon.14 -
Just came across a few rants blaming coursework, which doesn't have anything to do with programming. To them I wanna say two things:
1. Programming is modelled on everything other than programming. So it helps to know a bit about that 'everything'.
2. The famous author James Altucher has had 14 careers in 25 years. Not 14 jobs. 14 careers, including photography, authorship, entrepreneurship, finance planning, and more.
So stop bitching and eat your frog/broccoli.7 -

Apparently I failed to provide enough reason why I would like to do my internship with them.
And I didnt have any affinity with programming according to them.

How would you even know my affinity to programming? Because I dont have any personal projects running?2 -
Learn JavaScript.!!
Everybody talk about functional programming, I was thinking why php json_encode is not working on large array.
Javascript is Awesome.2 -
Maybe I don't even want to understand what "programming" means. Although I keep visiting StackOverflow almost daily to find useful advice on topics that do matter to me, when I post a question myself, they mostly get deleted for being "offtopic", not real "programming" questions, prone to attract "opinionated answers" or too much concerned about usability in real life? 🤔8

Functional-Declarative languages should only be esoteric ones. They are interesting for research and a mathematical toy, but they should not be used for programming languages used in the real world.
I currently try to write OpenSCAD code that places a list of modules, with information given from an array, with varying sizes next to each other. And is so hard and cumbersome. Whoever had the idea to cripple OpenSCAD by not having variables was stupid or sadistic.
The actual CPU run instructions, one after the other, there is no good reason to not allow some imperative elements in a programming language.24 -
(Not a rant)
New to devRant :^)
Tell me the reasons why you started programming.
I want to know since there are so many devs out there..8 -
i started a new job as a BI consultant. I thought that it included programming but it does not in my case :/3

Thinking about teaching a friend programming, I'm tempted by Kotlin as he's interested in mobile dev. Reasonable? Also any programming teacher have tips? I've always programmed so not sure how to look at it from a muggle's - I mean non dev view point.3
-
So another rant inspired me.
Tell me one fact or detail about your favorite programming language, other devs not using it, might not know about.
I go with: In Delphi you don't have garbage collection, unless you use interfaces the right way.7 -
If everyone in the job market would be paid the same salary.
What job you would've chosen which is not programming?12 -
Me, at 8 am: The university exams are over, and I'm gonna start programming again. It's great to deal with tasks that are not as annoying as studying!

confession
somewhere deep inside me I know that despite I am programming in c and using linux from ages, still not an expert.2 -
Not exactly programming related, more game hosting wise.
I was playing with my friend on his Battlefield 4 server when someone casually states "Great job would come back Mr. Server". -
Everyone comment one programming language that someone else did not already comment. Let's see how many different ones we can list. GO!54

not getting into html/css/js when i was younger. i'd be way farther ahead in my knowledge of other programming languages if i had :,<

Anyone here doing meditation regularly. Do you feel that it enhances your programming skills? Not to mention it help s to find inner peace.10
-
Is it normal to not like the projects given to you at work? Don't get me wrong. I bloody love programming but when I get a project that is not interesting, I feel kinda guilty.5
-
TFW you see ruby syntax and claim it's not even a programming language, then someone shows you a working example...
-
My employer should burn his DevOps system to the ground: esoteric configuration split on 1000 files, bugs and downtime almost daily, not communicated breaking changes which breaks pipelines, shitty documentation, few opportunities for customization and for everything you have to open a fucking ticket, I love programming but since I have to spend more time on a fucking ticketing system rather than on Vim my motivation is gradually falling to pieces.5

New Year's vows:
- not waste time
- maximum productivity
- maximum speed
- cloak engaged (ok, just kidding)
- finally finish learning Java
- learn enterprise programming
- not be a jerk to people (bleh)4 -
You might not think that programmers are artists, but programming is an extremely creative profession. It's logic-based creativity.”2
-
1. Finish/start to work on side projects
2. Learn Erlang or something similar
3. Read atleast one book per month (may or may not be related to programming) -
Even though I’ve been working through a C# book about WinForms, which I’m half way done with, I still don’t feel like I’m working productively and I hate the negative feeling it’s giving me.
It’s going to sound stupid but it’s making me feel like I’m not spending enough time programming even though I’ve been programming quite a bit this week. I mean the small apps aren’t practical they’re just for learning how it all works but still. Im not reading the book for learning the programming logic it’s for the WinForms knowledge.
I think it’s just that I want to make progress on my main project and just have a 4+ hour coding session.19 -
got my jetbrains studemt license renewal.
now i just nees to get remote programming on my pi up and running and then i have another excuse for not studying for university.
yay -
I am a newbie.
Just want to know why u use linux as for programming?
Is there anyone who prefers windows over linux even though he is not into gaming stuff?8 -
Guys does any of you know good first c++ project. I have a lot of experience with java and python so I am not new to programming, but I want to get proficient in C++ because I am soon starting a job which all lower level programming.7
-
I have small knowledge in programming in Java, have not learned it in a couple of months, and I was wondering, how do you take what you know to make a larger piece of software. HTML and CSS seems easy in comparison as I know how to a websites but, I can't comprehend Java programming.1
-
I'm gonna enter in school, looks like there's nobody who ever developed something. And I'm feeling like an alligator ready to kill everybody right now.

My journey from not knowig anything about programming to actually helping other student without their lab work.
Gor me that is actually a pretty good feeling :) -
Angular - object oriented programming
React - functional programming
---
Now i fucking understand why nextjs does not have any design patterns. No folder structure for it either. Every project is fucking random and you need to learn every fucking project from scratch cause people stuff shit into different folders and file names1 -
This guy has to be trolling. If not I fear for the future of programming. The whole article suffers from a lack of any understanding of anything.

Reminds me of the post from here where a manager thought making a variable private prevents hacking.20 -
I start to dislike programming. I used to love it. Chased by deadline, bill, family pressure, etc. Not sure what to do. Switch career?5

Do you think it is worth learning functional programming and specifically haskell. It seems like a really good concept, but a lot of people claim that it's not applicable in real scenarios.12 -
I started to study programming this year, but now after a couple of months i feel burned out and that i'm just not getting anywhere, what should i do?5

Family - "You might be a great coder, but if you dont have a degree, you wont get respect"
Overall, my brother and family are very supportive. only thing i dont like is their strong thrust to get me graduated and pass the exam, despite my negative interest in the course i am enrolled into.
I am into programming, not because of money, that is flowing around it, or the present day trend. Infact programming was not my field of interest, even though I was always interested in computers and machines. My first choice was to become a mechanical engineer. But i got enrolled into Electronic communication course.
Only after sophmore year, i started getting interest in programming.
Programming, to me is a very powerful tool. You can create what you want.
Programs, when works, Feels like magic -
Whenever someone praises a language or framework to be the holy grail of programming, I like to think of epicurus' problem:
1. If an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent programming language exists, then all the hundreds of other PLs would not.
2. There are a fuckton of PLs in the world.
3. Therefore, an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent programming language does not exist. -
Not a rant actually, but what does this community think about Apple's "programming is easy, programming is for everyone, everyone should program"?15
-
Some of us developers have that moment where we think: ("Please not another programming language...").5
-
when you used to functional programming, every time you see a for loop, you can not resiste but to refactorit.
-
Biggest hurdle right? That would be finding it hard to wrap my head around functional programming...it's just not getting in.. I need help pls.2
-
You try and try and try. Its just get frustating sometimes. Not seeing some real growth in your competitive programming skills.1

I started this one project as hobby, later on becomes we and we search for client. He assisted upto 30% only ui design. Now I am working 18,19 hours just to complete 2 project simultaneously. horrible experience taught me make sure you make written agreement before working as pair or partner

damn berlin sucks, the public transport is not very comfortable, people are gloomy and sometimes even snobby, the service is not the best and shopping sucks because there are not much choices and prices are not justified. prague was much better.2 -
Well...
I had to serve a deportation letter to an inmate the other day... Wow! Programming does not give you these moments2 -
I'm in the mood to learn a new programming language. I know python and I enjoy it. I want to learn a new language, but I'm not sure what I want to learn. I enjoy web development, but I want to learn a lower level programming language. Any recommendations?27
-
so i did this nice tool with data structures, dynamic ui composing, input sanitizing, modularity and scalability with tidy and efficient javascript and useful css.
showing it to my boss: "cool what you can do with html". WAT?
(he is not a programmer but knows i´m into web-programming) -
what I like to do when I'm not programming (draw, and also garden)
Can't. stop. creating. things.
what do you guys like to do outside of coding?4 -
Programming languages so rare that they will only help you in your current employment but not in any way or form your future.
-
When all of the dev cycle process crap is done. So maybe 2-3 hours per week, not including the "underwear programming" on the weekends.
-
Theory should be minimal courses, just something to think about and not something that expands through the entire curriculum as if anyone was to use it. Theory and fundamentals are enough, after that have career paths over what students want to focus on depending on a class that takes them through each different field: web development, db development, micro controller programming, os programming networking programming etc etc etc.
Basically, not :hey! here are some shitty basic programming classes, ok now let us move into calculus 1, 2, 3 etc etc. Most people come out of schools with no knowledge of what happens in the real world.3 -
I'm not professional I just enjoy programming , but for some reason people thinks I am. If they're gonna get disappointed at some point that's none of my problem. I never said I am.1
-
Coursemates tried to convince me that putty was the programming language we were learning in our Intro to Programming class, not C. I thought they were joking, turns out they were dead serious.1
-
How can I find someone to help me while I learn python?
I mean not necessarily a mentor like an online friend to talk about programming stuff and help us mutually11 -
I learned today that learning programming in MVC architecture has nothing to do with programming but understanding objects, layers, architecture etc.
Please dear tutorial creators, introduce me to the subject with explanations of those and not with some code of mvc or whatever. -
Me: *watches programming video on Y-Combinator*
Also Me: "why the heck are they talking about recursion and not funding startups?"2 -
My banker friend, want to quit his job and venture into programming as a career because he thinks "programming is less/not STRESSFUL and more LUCRATIVE ".
What should I tell him?8 -
PHP is not one of the first six languages I associate with DevOps work.
https://dzone.com/articles/...1 -
Is it just me or whenever I have to work on a new app I end up spending eons just trying to decide on what programming language to use and what not?
-
I always make typos when I'm programming at school. I'm not used to the apple keyboard, i have a razer blackwidow!
-
Well... best thing you could do is not limit yourself to one language and one area of programming. Experience and being better comes from exposing yourself to variety of programming areas and seeing how things are done there. :)
-
I genuinely want tp know why few devs don't add the opening brace on the same line as method/class declaration ??
Whenever I find a piece of code which follow such style a part of me cries thinking of the time I'll be spending first correcting...14 -
Where have you learned "the useful" programming ?
I mean, programming math challenges and this stuff is really fun and makes you think about things differently.
But it's not useful(It very much is, I just mean that the output programs aren't). Where did you learn useful programming ? Like creating GUI apps and stuff like that.3 -
Hello fellow devs! I am thinking of learning an new language the following year ( not programming 😂 ). Which languages do you think is the best for a programming career ?
I am currently thinking between mandarin(chinese) and Arabic ! Any suggestions ?4 -
advice: while learning a new programming language either do not be proud of your first accomplishment or do not look for solutions of other fellows afterwards.6
-
I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? Because I believe that if you really like something than you don't have doubts about it but am not sure if I am correct or not.8
-
If you haven't downloaded 323232 programming ebooks to read god knows when then you are not a programmer..3

So, i've always loved programming for as long as i can remember. But lately while sitting here working with it i havn't had the motivation or drive to program. I'm currently at an internship because the school i go to requires it, and ill be done in about 2 months (been here 3 months already), and im really not feeling it anymore.
Maybe it's because it's ASP.NET core 2, or becaue im not getting paid.
Is this because it's an internship? Will i have a better drive for programming when i actually get paid for it? Or do i just need to suck it up and maybe spend more time programming at home?1 -

fucking hate all online programming exam because they're limiting the way of examineer answering the problem as they're not allowed to import any packages.8 -

Reading The Pragmatic Programmer and Clean Code.
Any other suggestions on books thats not specified to a specific programming language that is worth reading?2 -
wk192: None. I was never asked to do a single coding challenge in any job interview. I had three successes and a bunch more interviews without programming anything in the interview or having ever shown any previous programming projects. I really wonder what criteria are important to companies hiring software developers if not how well they are at developing software.
-
Howdy. Not making any new posts for a while. Mostly because of tinnitus and because I started to lose interest in programming.1
-
I always hear people talk about how they want to get into programming and I used to feel that way too till I realized it's often not a want but rather a need. I got to have a problem that needs solving and that I need to learn programming to solve efficiently. That was quite an aha moment for me.2
-
programming is not a code via keyboard ...
it is emotion which is described by our finger in front of some bullshit guy3 -
hi guys so i'll be having a tutorial session tomorrow about java programming(not my choice) and im looking for scratch(like) game or any block programming games that can have classes with methods and properties. btw i want to use block type programming first before getting into hard coding because (at least i think) it can help ease the learning curve, it will help understanding about the concepts first without the pressure of remembering syntax. any recommendations?1
-
Feeling stupid as fuck in a group programming with our lead engineer (and Im the one driving). Tell me Im not useless :(1
-
my story is not sensational. i just wanted to do my cs labs and not be embarrassed in front of my friends. so i learned programming.
-
Some wild thoughts, why not change the name from programming to progoogling 😐, cos thats what we do6
-
Bsc Computer science (I've seen the maths in that course,it's a bit crazy but the programming modules is what I love)
or
BCom information systems (less complex maths, not much programming and a lot of finance and business based modules)but I can take a post graduate straight up programming and software dev course after that
Or
BTEch IT applications development(very practical experience on programming languages) plus in my second year I get industry experience.
Confused
Which one??1 -
So functional programming is basically using prebuilt libraries anf functions and not write a single line of logic?3
-
I don't even know that i should say it was a good problem or a bad one, i was programming a magnetometer sensor in both spi and i2c. I was tired of not working
I touched the sensor it dropped off!!! It was not soldered well!!!! At the problem was not from the code1 -
If you're not truly interested in it.
I don't like math, sitting or a lot of reading but my interest in programming gradually increased overtime. -
Colleague is programming/scripting for over 5 years now (that I know of), even attended Udacity programming nano-degree.
Yet, he still writes code/scripts without a single function. How the hell can we start any programming best practices, clean code, or making steps towards TDD with this sort of mentality.
And it's not just him, it feels like a death by thousands cuts as the small things add up. I know we're Ops and not Devs and some other colleagues are trying really hard to get their work on the next level but I see no hope for the team as the whole.4 -
Programming often ends up in interesting places.
Spent a whole day interpreting a golang SDK in python only to realise that I just have to learn go, not cool google!1 -
Dynamic/Dynamically is used WAY to much in programming. What part of programming is NOT dynamic?
https://dictionary.com/browse/...
Depending upon your interpretation of the definition it can just mean: moving parts. Programming is all about moving parts.
I see things like "dynamically allocated array". Wtf does that even mean? (I get it, most likely means on heap) Say it specifically: it was allocated on the stack or the heap.
Apparently some people are just more energetic in their programming...
It becoming a really overused buzzword...8 -
All my life I have been interested in tech. But I'm really struggling on my main programming class. I am really doubting whether or not this is the right field for me, especially since my instructor asked me whether I'm interested in programming. I'm in my third year and can't afford to change my major. What do u guys think?1
-
today is exactly the first month I started learning programming. But, I have always wondered, how is a language created? and why people willingly painstakingly learn new language when its not widely used?1
-
What do you think about Udemy?
And if you took it, which courses did you find most useful - not only related to programming/development but in general?
Thank you in advance. :)3 -
I do not like the Zig programming language. It looks like Javascript for unnecessary reasons and has some weird syntax.15
-
I'd strongly advise to learn some basic about OOP and a commonly used programming language and not go down the tutorial rabbit hole and rather try stuff out.1
-
And don't fck up the rest of your life...
There are a lot more fun things not only programming. Enjoy -
I worked sufficiently more time on r programming. I felt a bit stress and now my heart is beating abit harder even while I'm not coding. what's happening to me?
-
I was the one who knows linux more than the teacher itself but can not say of programming actually
I only knew html css and she'll programming at that moment
But later on trying learning I felt in love ... -
Not exactly a function in a programming language, but as far as Android SDK goes, typing "adb lolcat" instead of "adb logcat" is easier on fingers, and funnier !
-
To all of you saying that HTML is not a programming language: Take that.

Looking to get in to Android development. I have plenty of experience with programming, but not for mobile platforms. Anyone have any good resources (that are up to date)? -
Do you guys listen to any programming podcasts which do not just center around one particular programming language? Any podcasts regarding topics like universal programming concepts, history of programming etc. At the moment I'm listening to Command Line Heroes (from RedHat) but I have almost listened to every episode and need new stuff :)

I am a student from IADT and I do not understand for loops and think that I failed my programming test7

teacher: You know CP?
student: yes
teacher: fix the bugs
student: (after checking all code) I know computer programming, not competitive -
[Not A Rant] Could you guys share your programming music playlist, looking for some music to get into the zone.4
