Code not working.
Comment out code.
Slowly rewrite it bit by bit till it works again.
Check against commented code.
They're the same.
Wtf.
Seven hours wasted on this shit :/3 -
If I could represent my life using 32-bit signed integers, you would be -2,147,483,648 because you are the Most Significant Bit of my life ❤9

Bob?
Yeah?
Bob, could you hand me that paperclip?
Sure mate!
Thanks.
Oh... Bob?
Uhhh... yeah?
Could you also hand me that paperclip?
Right... sure, of course.
Thanks.
Bob?
What?
Could you also hand me the next paperclip?
Fuck off, why don't I just give you the whole fucking box!
Yeah Bob, please, throw the whole fucking box.
Wait, is that a printed screenshot of my code you're attaching the paperclips to?
It sure is, Bob.16 -

For those who were wondering, since my last post had some people who seemed interested, here's my progress on my 8-bit computer. I've got the clock on the left hand side, and the 2 8-bit registers on the right hand sign. (The power strips in the middle are going to be used as a bus)9

I: "Do you have the right version for your architecture?"
He: "What"
I: "Did you download the 64 bit or the 32 bit version?"
He: "I'm not sure but I think it was sth. between 40 and 50!"19 -
After 2 hours of wiring/debugging/rewiring, I have my EEPROM programmer halfway done. Currently is only able to read locations in memory. Next step: make it programmable.
(For those of you who dont know, EEPROM stands for Electrically Erasable, Programmable Read-Only Memory29 -
I just realized that after 6 years of programming, things that would make normal people angry/happy/emotional currently have no effect on me, no matter how extreme it is, maybe I am losing my humanity bit by bit7

we switched from GitHub to BitBucket and I saw my colleague try to run `bit status` because they thought GitHub = git so BitBucket = bit.
Had a good chuckle seeing that.9 -

Parents had asked me to assemble some furniture, fix the pc and so some other "brain" work
Furniture
Me: *Stops to check something in the manual*
Parents: Are you stuck? Maybe try assembling the door upside down
Me: No, it is the right way
Parents: *Ramble, ramble*
Me: Just let me work, shut the hell up
PC
Me: *Checks cables, checks logs, ect*
Parents: Maybe it is the problem with (insert random tech word there)?
Me: No.
Parents: W h y?
Me: Let me finish, it isnt that, (tech word) isnt even correlated to that
Parents: But, but, you never talk to me... (ramble ramble)
Me: Get the hell outta the room
*Argumemt breaks out*
30min later
Me: *Finnaly manages to fix it after the heated argument*
Me: I finished, everything works
Parents: Great, but you are mean
Me: I managed to finish the work in 15 min, you dont even have enough strengh to call for a specialist, (but knowing me i wouldnt allow it anyway because a lot of them make a poor job), so in order to make it properly and to relieve you from learning how to fucking google i want you to stay out of this so i can just finish my job. Your interruptions waste time and i dont need your help at all. Everytime you tried to fix stuff you always managed to fuck shit up when you tried to do anything.
Parents: (ramble)
Me: SHUT THE FUCK UP, LEAVE MY ROOM
Parents:
Me:
Parents: *Leave the room*
1h later i get 25$ for the job perfectly done
Sometime i wish they were tech independent, so i can save my sanity and time but money is nice.
If anybody tries to argue that i should respect them:
I tried talking to them nicely countless times through years, but they always force themself to a project and they always fuck shit up because of it. I tried telling them about my problems and they tried helping me but after it didnt work they retured to the old: "it is the pc fault" and similar. Even if they couldnt help me i juat wanted them to understand my situation, but no that didnt happened.
First i fix my life then i will fix the relationship
But but greeeeeg, relationships should be cared for always!
Eat shit. There is time for family and there is time for me especialy when my life can suddenly colapse due to my problems.7 -
My parents think I'm teaching computers to think strategic to rule the world some day. They are a bit scared. They love me though. But they are scared.
Also my mum once told me that I should take care not to end in hell. She was serious about it. -
From the Chromium mailing list:
TL;DR - 32 bit is no more (?)
Hi, chromium devs,
TL:DR;
I will remove following 4 builders next week.
Linux Builder (dbg)(32)
Linux Tests (dbg)(1)(32)
linux_chromium_compile_dbg_32_ng
linux_chromium_dbg_32_ng
More explanation:
For now, chromium does not support 32 bit Linux
https://support.google.com/chrome/...
and all 32 bit x86 devices for chromeos is EOL too.
https://chromium.org/chromium-os/...
Considering that, I was not able to find any reason we have builders for not supported platform now.
If you have any comments about this builder removal, please let me know.
I will start removing process of the builders next week if there is no concern from you.
Note: This removal does not include 32 bit android/windows/libfuzzer or other than chromium builders.
Thanks,
Takuto

Why the fuck is 32 bit still a thing on modern windows? I'm trying to make a program that injects some CBT/Shell event handler code into all running applications and I have to do everything twice because the majority of my programs run in 32 bit mode and I can't inject my 64 bit dll... I hope that one day we will say goodbye to 32 bit for good. Fuck!5

finally...a nice round number of ++, hopefully they use more than an unsigned 8 bit otherwise I'm gonna overflow after this post! :P1

My boss just now: "In a 32 bit machine the memory limit is 1.6 GB. After that programs routinely crash."
What really happens IMO? He writes programs that crash when they reach 1.6 GB allocated and the architecture is 32 bit. But it's a limit of his software, not one of the OS.8 -
Started my internship web project. Found myself relying a bit too much on stackoverflow and google for backend and frontend help and it's making me feel a bit too guilty. Any advice ?5

I just found something insanely fascinating for the nuts-and-bolts computer history nerds. It's an article by Eric S. Raymond titled "Things Every Hacker Once Knew." It outlines old general-knowledge shit about the computers of the 60s-90s: ASCII, terminal protocols, bit architectures, etc. which can still be useful for anyone roped into repairing or maintaining arcane or legacy systems.

Hello, my name is ***** and I already had a few Old Fashions🥃
I've been chasing a big career and success since i was about 12.. the first 8 years of my career I did the same.
for the last two years i decided to slow down, I'm still keeping up with stuff and do a good job but I took a break from wanting to being the next Wozniak.
Im much happier and more relaxes now but I'm at a point where i really wanna do, be and achieve more..
My #1 goal in life is to build a family, having a wife and a few kids. (first gotta be able to talk to women though:/)
i have a very strong desire to have an impact on the world and society to build a life in which at least my (non existing) family could be happy and without worries. but i've no fucking clue how to achieve that. how to have an impact. i don't see a way as a software engineer anymore..
i feel lonely and lost without any fucking perspectives..
i feel like i was better off when i was chasing the big money..
i know dev rant is not the place to do this but i can't talk to my family and i wanted to share my emotions. been alone for 3 months now and it's also about my dev career, that's how i justify to post this to our community here😅4 -

I use the Samsung Chromebook plus with a 64 bit based ARM CPU but the chromeOS installation is 32 bit... Buuuuuut it will prefer 64 bit android applications and runs the Linux container at 64 bit!
How does that even fucking work?!?!

Staying up a bit later to try to get something to work that you have been stuck on for a while and actually getting it to work is a good feeling even if the solution was a bit hacky.1 -
It never ceases to amaze me just how big 64 bit memory space is. It's so unrealistically big that on contemporary processors you can't address the middle and the size of that dead spot (the number of high bits that must be the same in a valid address) is barely worth mentioning.1

Guys just wanna ask stuff..I recently just became interested with bitcoins and mining them(trying to earn without spending a cent)... I tried out nightminer py but it seems I can’t get this to work.. I prefer to run it on a cloud server... should I continue or shouldn’t please Identify the pros and cons so that I’d tally them and decide if I should pursue this...14

Started playing around with HTML and CSS when I was about 8. Tried JavaScript but it never stuck. Started to learn a bit of Python when I was about 13 and enjoyed it, but never applied it to anything other than some maths. Used some basic ActionScript in Flash animations. Wrote some simple VBA in Excel. Learnt Matlab during my Engineering degree. Now I use Mathematica for my PhD work, Python for fun and useful bits of software for myself, and the occasional bit of PHP and whatever else I need at the time to get something working.

So another guy (let's call him Steve) and I were helping someone else on how to install something that requires Python and since I was too tired to follow up I decided to take a nap.
2 hours later, I woke up just to see Steve telling me he tried to install 64-bit psutil with a 64-bit computer, on a 32-bit Python install.3 -
Finally did it!
Replaced my desktop pc (which I use for gaming) which had Windows 7 with Arch Linux! It was not hard because I already use it on my laptop.
OK it was a bit struggle with nvidia and cinnamon due to missing libraries I had to install which I don't know before.
But it is possible to play games on Arch?
Yes definitely!

I've started to get more into the TOR idea over the last couple of weeks.
I know I'm way to "non protective" of my privacy but changing would mean I'd have to break many habits and stop using things I'm used to.
A couple years back (I guess it was in like 8th grade or so) I had a presentation in German (my first language) for an extra mark. It was about tor. In the process of researching all of it I learned quite a lot about it. All of this knowledge has stuck to me the whole time, unused.
Fast forward to today, I've finally decided to use the couple of bitcoins I have (like 15€ or so) from my home mining experiment to rent a vps for a tor relay. First, I was lucky enough to find a service provider that accepts bitcoin for a 3€. They advertised "Fair use Traffic", later found out, after committing for three months since I was like "yeah... will be fine", in the customer panel there is a graph that shows me that I have used x% of 1.5 TB... I guess the customer support will get an email from me asking what "Fair use" exactly means... But that's fine... Oh... And ipv6 wasn't a thing to be found...
To wrap it up... I've now got a 2 weeks old little tor relay <3
(I didn't wanted to put it on my main vps where I have 200mbit guaranteed at unlimited for 5€ a month since that's where I have my mail server running and a hidden service for my next cloud)1 -

My laptop of 4+1/2 years has bit the dust. Come at the worst time too, was just about to hand in an English essay but it refused to boot and went straight into a blue screen, shut it off and then when it booted it up again, it had a bunch of white lines along the screen with a blue screen, then went straight off.
For now, using anothers laptop but that essay is still due.. can only code in Python right now. Struggling to breath...
Farewell, bLaptop, my only hope is that we can get your contents.1 -

MySQL Workbench 32-bit requires Visual C++ 2013, but all I can find is VS 2015 and later. So you need to have a 64 bit computer now to develop on mySQL databases? Well that SUCKS! A lot of devs work on commodity hardware, i.e. somewhat dated, 32-bit computers. Most devs that I know, including myself, are not interested in the latest, flashiest, most expensive hardware.17

Good poem i read :
“OK” said Fuen, “but why is Hydra howling at the moon.”
“He is just a bit upset at his PC breaking” replied Red.
“Can’t he fix it?” asked Fuen.
“Doesn’t look like it” said Red. “He keeps getting stuck during the trouble shooting.”
“Which bit of trouble shooting?” asked Fuen.
“The last bit” replied Red. “He says his keyboard doesn’t have an ‘any’ key.”
Fuen winced. -

and same for our native language too.
