Today I received the best bug report I could've ever asked for..
Received an email from a member of our customer service centre containing a description of the bug they'd found and not only did it contain the steps to reproduce the bug, but a goddamn video of him reproducing the suspected bug!
The greatest feeling when the client decides to take time to make your life that little bit easier24 -
Boss: I can't open the website.
Me: What connection you using boss? Try to switch to LAN cable. Our office wifi a little bit wonky today.
*plug in LAN cable
Boss: Ahaaaaa! It works now. Please, next time make you develop website wifi compatible.
Me: ****8 -
so, my college has a very ugly looking login page for the college wifi. and I was bored so i thought let's change it a bit with a little JavaScript and tamper monkey i made this.. now i just keep on looking at the login page21

I found out recently that Facebook is embedding tracking data in the form of IPTC metadata in images that you upload. This way the images can be tracked even after you download them.
Because I'm an anarchist and just want to watch the world burn a little, I made a tiny server to replace the id hash that they embed with a random one, just to see if I can't fuck with their algorithm a little bit.
You can check out the project here https://github.com/watzon/fbmdob15 -
During my interview, I poured some water into a cup and it overflowed a little bit.
Interviewer: Nervous?
Me : No, I just always give my 110%9 -
A customer called me in a stressed out state and asked me if I could get it up.
I kept my composure but politely told her to give me a little bit more to work with..5 -
This might be a little off topic, but I just wanted to talk about this for a bit.
I know that quite a lot of devs aren't the happiest of people, and I've seen many of you discussing depression around here. It's great to have this platform be open about these issues.
Makes you remember that people aren't all that bad, a small conversation with another person could make your day a bit more bearable.
Also, don't forget to have an honest conversation with yourself sometimes. Cut yourself, and others, a bit of slack.
Don't let the big black dog grow too much. It will still be there, but don't let it engulf you in darkness. 💜19 -
I just got emotionally attached to this laptop and that massage is like sign for all devs not to be robot and bring little bit change every once in a while.10

Client : hey there is a minor change in the iOS app.
Me : got it. Done. Sending the build now.
After 5 mins.
Client: heh, few more UDIDs. Can you add them ?
Me : yep. Sure.
After 10 mins.
Client : Hey, need a small change. The text field need to be little bit left.
Me : ugh. Okay. Will do it. Sending another build.
After 1 hr.
Client : hey, need a small help.
Me : Offline.7 -
This is the equivalent of fining an average person $5, if even that much. What a joke of a fine.
If you're going to fine someone, actually fine them for an amount that'll hurt a little bit.9 -
I forced my friends to use git(hub) as vcs because their project was in a usb-to-usb state, which was unacceptable for me. So I offered them my help and uploaded it (with a little bit of a forced consent) to github, to end this misery. Of course I helped them the basics of git. Now they automatically use git(hub) as vcs and to share their code.
I feel proud for this :)10 -

Internship has taught me that as long as you know one good language then you can do anything in other language with a little bit help from online.
Unless it's c++.
c++ has pointer.
That means you're fucked.
That also means you're in for a lot of fun.9 -
Real analog advertising for DuckDuckGo.
I have been a little bit surprised by that!
The text is:
"You want the same internet but with more privacy?
Leave it to us."
Could be because the advertising spaces became rather cheap after the Corona slowdown, or DDG really takes off now.7 -
- Was working in a JS file for a website.
- Decided to move file into a folder for better organisation.
- Made folder, copied file into it.
- Spent 30 minutes wondering why changes weren't working, questioning my JS skills and life in general.
- Called friend asking for assistance, he's as confused as I am.
- Realised while speaking to him that I never deleted the file that was copied, and had been making changes to that the entire time.
Needless to say I was a little bit embarrassed.3 -
coding has reinforced my conviction that I'm significantly more proficient at breaking things than making them. And sometimes I break things so well, they start working when they absolutely should not work, even a little bit.
It's also made me a little more angry, reduced my patience with people who ask why something isn't working, and made me realise that I will *thankfully* never be normal.
I've never been happier.4 -
- I know how to program a little bit
- Oyy really, in what language are you programming
- Html and css

A critical vulnerability was detected in Electron and I urge all the devRantron users to update their app manually.
Please go to https://www.devrantron.com get the latest version which has the necessary patches.
Due to a request, we added compact mode in the app, which can be used to view a distraction-free mode of the UI. Notifications screen is a little bit more readable now. The read notifications are now greyed out.
Again, the auto update will not work for this version. Please manually update as soon as possible.6 -
Client: "Can you move this to a little bit there"
Me: "okay, have a look"
Client: "Meh, Can you make the text a little like ${x}"
Me: "There you go"
...this goes on for 10 minutes...
Client: "Meh, I like the original better. Just scrap everything and switch to what you had"
Me: *nuclear explosion*3 -
Hehe, just inherited a bit of JavaScript code. Ashamed to say I physically lol'd a little :) Guess I have an easy "bug" to fix.6

12:45pm: "Well this issue is taking longer than expected but that's okay. I can grab lunch and still relax a little bit."

I am a little bit fat (just a little bit :D) and there is no such an avatar in devRant to represent my look. That makes me feel I'm lying about myself 😐2
-
I usually start going through the code and as I do I draw (connected) shapes for every part of the code, as I do I add "features" to the shapes (little spikes, give them stripes etc) that way I'm able to "see" what is missing and how the shapes should interact
this might be a bit weird to explain but it helped me a lot to understand what the code is doing and get it rolling again16 -

I wanted to screenshot some of the birthday wishes that were printed for me on the discord server early this morning but they're spread too much, thanks anyway! That was very cute of you all. Only people from devRant actually bothered to wish me a Happy Birthday this early (maybe I influenced it a little bit ... 😂) But it's true
Everyone remember that ThatDude's Birthday is on January 28th 😉16 -
You know, sometimes I wish I had friends who knew how to code or new a bit about the programming world. Then I could show them my projects and they could help out of they wanted. I could also get them to properly criticize my designs and script. Instead of the ones that just scroll past your shit and say nothing at all, you know, people who would actually give a little bit of a shit. Sigh.4

If you haven't checked it out yet, all devs need Devdocs.io + Station
Hands down the most useful resources I've ever come across.
This one site and tool saves me so many chrome tabs it's worth its weight in gold.
Combined with Station (getstation.com) I've cut my RAM usage down by 1/3 overall.
When you have PS CC2018 and Visual Studio 2017 running on a netbook it's helpful to squeeze every little bit.4 -
Just managed to setup a tiny/simple privacy-friendly analytics system.
You basically call an api from your backend with the api key and all the headers you received from the browser (php and Apache or nginx in my case) and the analytics api gets useful stuff out of that data without sacrificing privacy.
I get a little bit more insight into my websites usage and the client isn't sacrificing identifiable information!
I've been wanting to make this fucker for fucking months.11 -

I was curious about how the Genetic Algorithm works, wanted to try it out.
So I've created some toy cars using Three.js and "asked" them to do the self-parking with a little bit of Genetic Algorithm help.
It was fun to see how those toy cars were evolving and actually started to be less stupid :D

Currently i have a small web dev project and i set up a live preview website so he cant see it developing and This literally Just happened
Client : hey, are you currently working on my website?
Me : Yes on my computer and working on it, can i help you with something?
C: yeah just a little bit, that logo on the top left are just a bit squeezed in size and stay like that since 5 days ago and it's bothering me, can you fix it?
Me : nah, its just a simple thing. give me a sec and try reload--
C: why is your voice echoing? Don't tell me you are coding in the bathroom
Me: ummm.. No... I guess...? (I Am)
C: 🤣
Me: sorry 😅4 -
I never made a friend due to code.
Either I fucking hate people if I see their code or I respect them.
But getting a friend because of code seems to me rather unrealistic.
Maybe I could get a female code groupie, if I write code little bit more lovely and sexy.
Ask me again in a year.15 -
Every time I compile an open source project I can feel the pain and time that went into developing it and if it compiled successfully, a little bit of happiness is surrounding me

My Nexus 6P died yesterday..
A new battery that I ordered for it months ago, arrived.. today.
4700mAh. If only I could've tested it.
This feels so much like it was just to rub it in a little bit further that that Nexus is gone forever.. just before I could fix the first shitstain, the second one occurred already... Fuck me :')9 -
Bezelless displays are a joke. Even the regular displays like this one from my laptop don't need nearly as much bezel as they're usually given.
The black indent at the top of the picture is hiding the display controller, which can easily be moved to the back. The rest of it.. a little bit of internal frame to keep the LCD intact during impacts on the outer case but that's about it.11 -
The other day we had a little celebration because a website went live.
It’s weird
Somehow it’s easy to spent €100 on celebration food and drinks but it’s hard to sign a €90 paper and allow me to upgrade my computer just a tiny bit.4 -
setup my new private project with react, to dive deeper into react.
brain: hey, how about to read a little bit about vue vs. react vs. angular?

brain: hey, how about to play around with vue a little bit?
me: ok.

Stuck on windows for a bit more now after my little Arch fuckup and holy shit I forgot how terrible running android studio on windows is...
*Opens project, waits for windows to unfreeze*
*Waits for gradle to load lets windows unfreeze*

*Sips now cold coffee that was made when opening Android Studio*
Ugh, I miss Arch...
PS. Yes I know this is an android studio thing and not a Wndows problem2 -
Just signed the contract for renting my first ever place today, and tomorrow is my first day of work as a software developer at a large company... It's been a crazy weekend, and tomorrow is probably gonna be even crazier! Little bit nervous tho... We'll see how it goes4

I FUCKING HATE IT when you have a free day and you are so happy about it, because you can work on your projects, study things you want
BUT NOO
you sleep a little bit longer, wake up
And suddenly you find out that you need to go to the other fucking side of the city in 3 hours and spend there half of the day.
FUCK
There goes my free day...5 -
My family is pretty clueless about what I do, but they are genuinely curious. My mom especially. She always asks questions about stuff I'm learning and tries her best to understand.
I might do a little course in programming for anyone in my family who wants to learn. Helps a lot in how people solve problems, and would help reinforce my knowledge.
Question is, do I teach them a low level language like C, or something that's a bit easier to understand, like Python?2 -

Me: Sure thing. *opens project*

I know its 1999... but who called their website a WWWebsite.
This was my school's website in 1999. They didn't stop calling it a wwwebsite until 2002.
on some of the later versions of the site(2000+) they were proud of the "little bit of Java and Shockwave" - (School Website) on their site3 -

Today I decided it was a good time to give back to the developers of this awesome platform. I bought some 'Shiny new avatar items' and subbed to the Supporters thing. The community is just great. Keep up the great work guys.
Also, Would it be possible to move the phone a few pixels further away from the monitors? Looks a little bit weird atm.6 -

Sometimes I don't want my co-workers to see the notes I write on a meeting, for several reasons: Maybe they might have bad intentions (yes, I'm a little bit paranoid), or sometimes I wrote stupid stuff just to concentrate or remember things faster, or I want to practice my cyrillic alphabet.
What do you think? how do you take "secret" notes on a meeting? Any slav in here that could tell me if he/she understands my calligraphy? XD24 -

Anyone know of a way to ease a tooth ache?
This pain right now is fucking unbearable, I'm having a hot water bottle against my cheek which relieves it a very little bit and I'm already on the maximum dosage of pain killers.
7 hours left before I can call my dentist.
I hope someone knows something magical for this 😥33 -
It's Friday night, I live alone.
Little bit of vodka, little bit of light reading of channels (the django web sockets interface), NOONE running about the apartment, all is quiet.

Did a code test at an interview, had to aggregate data from a db. They stored cities with population count and users referenced cities.. 6 cities had a higher user count than population 🤔
They were a little taken back and suggested the population data must be outdated 😉.. it got a bit awkward1 -
interview today
me: and can you tell me a little bit more about your development process? e.g. an example dev cycle from reqs to testing and review...?
senior dev interviewing me:
*gives frustrated/annoyed "why tf are you asking these?" look*
So, uh, we don't really use testing for these projects cuz it would make it harder to refactor later.
(and responded nothing else on the topic)
I left shortly after that.9 -
You guys converted me.
I "grew up" with Visual Studio (from VS 2005). My programming career started with VBA. (All C#)
Occasionally tried to program android with eclipse... never worked out.
I know java a little bit.

You ever just get pissed at everything?
I find myself wanting to pick a fight about everything today. Little stupid things just setting me off. Just rage...
My head also a feels a bit fuzzy. Also tinnitus is fucking loud today.

Motivation lost!
Anyone seen it?
It's a battered old thing, smells a little bit like sunshine and redemption, been in decline for a long while.

Recently i had a small talk with someone working in the banking sector . When that person acknowledged what i do for a living , she started to be a little bit passive-agressive .
Her:"You know someday , sooner than later , a guy like you is going to create something like artificial intelligence to replace all the devs in the world . Ha ha ha ! And your golden age is going to end . "
Me:"So you think this guy is going to create a smart program , software or platform , that will create software from what ? "
Her:" We will write the specs directly in the program and we will get the software after !"
Me:"And what if the specs are impossible, from logical point of view. "
Her:" Well there will be some rules and you will need to respect them !"
Me: "And people need to learn the logic of these rules?"
Her: " Yes a little bit of training!"
Me:" We already have that !"
Her: " We have ?! "
Me: " Is called .... CODING !"
Her: **silence **

So, I've been having to deal with server issues and other BS. All of these issues have caused all of my websites to be down. For the longest time, I couldn't get Nginx to find my websites' directories except for the default Nginx website, so I changed the default Nginx website to what you see in the image.
I tried to be funny, did I succeed? Even a little bit?8 -
Woke up an hour early today.

Or I could go back to sleep because I'm still a little bit tired.

So today I saw someone using that retard units and I get a little bit frustrated. Then a side project idea popped out; a website called something like retard units to non-retarded units. It would simply convert between units and have a clear message that suggests stop using any retard units. Then I hit google to check if similar website exists and boom! I found this:
https://tononretard.com/
ITS SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. Also it has a feature that blocks you from converting metric units to retard units. A wonderful masterpiece!6 -

I have now turned the name board in my cubicle to hide my name.
Why you ask? Not because I don't like my name, or dislike my name board (there's this little design on it which is just delightful).
It is to make it a bit more difficult for new morons who don't know who I am or where I sit. Can't do much more than that because I have a desktop.5 -
I find it weird that for C floats, -0<+0 is not true. Had to write a little bit of extra code to enforce this.
-0 could represent an incrementally small number below zero but greater than the next lower quantisation level.4 -
Today, Linux kernel 5.8 was released, here is how it runs on my new laptop.
- Realtek shit ethernet still doesn't work (no, I didn't return it, because I would have to buy at least 2 times as expensive docking station instead and it is just not worth it), but considering Realtek, it is probably not a Linux kernel issue
- Battery life while watching videos was improved pretty significantly from 6.5 hours to about 7.3 hours (1080p HEVC)
- All temperature sensors are now working correctly
- Fan is a little more silent overall, probably because of some power draw improvements
- Subjectively, the system is a little bit more responsive overall4 -

When I started at my current Company and was put into my first Project, I discussed the Design Architecture with the lead Programmer in the Project.
Then he dropped the line:
"I don't understand why you were employed as Trainee instead as a Software Developer"
(The Reason was that I wasn't that familiar with Java aside from a little bit what I learned in University)
That gave me a big boost in Confidence ^^1 -
I've worked on dozens of projects now and I have tried using several CSS frameworks. Every time I experienced using a framework much more of a hustle than using custom CSS for the design. If your design gets a little bit more complex or unusual you will spent hours on fixes.
For me the times of frameworks in CSS have passed.
Tough I kinda like Vuetify, but then I haven't used it on big projects yet.7 -

Thank you @dfox and @trogus for creating this opportunity for devs to rant about little and big incidents and to seek advice and amusement. (And for the stickers, of course. :D)
Thank you all for being the awesome community you are.

A guy came from another city, just to teach a little bit on how to improve productivity, and after almost 2 hours of him telling stories about his life and career, in five minutes he told us to delete games and facebook from our cellphones, and only focus on learning and work related apps... And He tried to sell us the complete series of books and videos with the full content on productivity in the end...4

that feeling when you start looking at code after dinner, correct a bug or two, start implementing new features, tweak the code a little bit, you are really focus in your coding... then look out the window and realize the sun is about to come up. it's great 🤓

The Hololens is awesome! Had the possibility to wear a Hololens devkit right now and it's fantastic! Ok, the Field of view is a little bit small. Like a A5 Sheet of paper around 30cm in front of you. But the gesture and environment detection is smooth as hell! No stutter or misinterpretation. Render speed is quit good for a small Computer. You can run small 3D games wiche interact with you environment. Virtually like in the presentations from Microsoft. It's a bit heavy and hurts after a while. So yeah, it's fucking awesome. Future is here <3.1

So I was trying to compare my local website CSS properties to the one deployed on production and realized that font/blocks were a little bit smaller than usual. Tried to debug which CSS changes caused this issue for half an hour only to realize that it was because the browser's zoom level was set to 90% locally 🤦🏽♂️
This happened with a guy who just finished 5 years of professional coding yesterday 😂2 -
During my 2 weeks of vacation I thought I shouldn't spend all the time on private projects but should get my head clear a bit. Wanted to extend our kitchen a little for a long time now anyways!

Today is Day Two of my Dev Ops Internship.
The only tasks I have been assigned today is GDPR compliance training, which I did not realize could be stretched out into so much repetitive detail.
I also sat in a meeting with a dev who committed his artifact builds to git and now needs us to remove them for him.
Also, I keep getting called Dylan. My name is not Dylan.1 -
Never ever directly edit the source code of libraries.
Not to the smallest bit.
I just did that and forgot about it, then I wondered how a decent library like I used can produce such gobshite as it did. Several hours (!) later I discover my little "debug output" line in the library's source.
Goddammit I must have a well built table. And a well built head.2 -
Client A: "So, how about those features I told you yesterday? Can it work? Have you discuss it with your team?"
Me: "Yes, it would possibly have to extend the due date a little bit more..."
Client A: "Meaning?"
Me: "You have to pay more."
*Another 15mins awkward silence moment*
Client A: "I don't understand."
Seriously, get some other guy to do the meeting please...I am not good in PR....3 -
I am well done, burnt and carcinogenic. The constant pressure to always produce, always post a profit, always increase, always commit, always stand-up and succeed is fucking exhausting and ultimately and totally unsustainable.

Way back, 20 or so years ago, when I went to the university, every student got an account so that we could work with the Unix machines. Every user got the same default password, -apollo-, still remember it until today, and one day I felt a little bit evil and I tried to login to the administrator account, of course the first password I tried was the default password and it worked!!! I got super scared and told an older student about it, who was brave enough to scare the administrators a little bit by leaving a message like "you have been hacked!!!" or something similar. I was just too scared to do anything about it. All I wanted to do was see IF I could login ☺️ my few minutes of being Mr. Robot... Guess hacking was not for me 😃

Last sprint is a mess.
Working on three products that are related one with another a little bit.
1. Bug reports are coming in;

3. QA starts testing and it doesn’t work;
4. Because another team updated something in product A and product B depends on it.

I've got a Rubik's cube on Friday.
On Sunday evening, I solved a cube for the first time ever.
For the last two days, I've been solving them a lot. Seems it helps a bit with anxiety. Overall, my brain functionality, I'd argue, has improved.
It's funny how little obsessive things make one survive.
On the other hand, I don't think I'll stay obsessed with it for long. Pity that this nice little while of less anxiety is so short.3 -
.. so apparently you can run JavaScript on the Java Virtual Machine (with a little bit of help from a module).7

I just got a bit into OpenCV and I am completely exited. I built a little ball tracker (Yes I know that the cross is on the other side, it's inverted so the cross is at the same position as the ball in front of the camera) and although it is not the most advanced project I think it's kinda cool.9

I would like to get a little bit into functional programming.
Do you have any language suggestions to learn?14 -
my coworker just disabled the unit tests in the build process
without telling anybody and without comment in the log
I was happy that my code worked then it was a little bit fishy that the build was so fast
I am so angry now and of course I need to fix the tests as well2 -
So I'm kind of a fledgling webdev. Where would I go to learn how to do backend in order to do logins, manage inventory, create posts, that kind of thing?
I know a little bit of PHP, HTML, and CSS, but only enough to make static pages... it's kind of bad...1 -
So, is anyone here going to 34c3(*) in Leipzig?

Hi guys, I’m that good guy MIS who knows a little bit python and got “promoted” to write a warehouse management system in C#, which I have never use it before.
Just now I submit my first pull request to DevOps and got accepted.
Just a small EF core and barcode generators stuff but I’m so glad I made some progress 😬3 -

So I've been self teaching myself Python, which I've loved learning. However I hit a wall. I'm terrible with large project ideas, which has brought everything to a halt.
Being that I loved learning python, I'm thinking of picking up a second language to fill the void & expand my knowledge. I've dabbled a little bit in Java & Haskell. Go looks pretty interesting.
In your opinion what would be a good complementary language to Python?8 -

You know what? FUCK Australian employers. I know they'd be damn fucking lucky to have me on their team.
I just finished working on something that I made several years ago (what I raised funds for in my previous rant), I then took it a step further and automated the process [if some things], and now I have my own software finding me new leads and sending them to me via email and push notifications.
With a little bit of tweaking maybe, and a little bit of time, I expect to find some new clients again.1 -

Weekly Q: How do you keep yourself motivated?
A: No matter what - I allocate a little bit of time every week to something I really care about right now.
When I was green it was mostly learning. Now it's mostly codebase cleanup, dev experience improvement or dabbling with some feature that's not prio.
Might not sound like a lot but doing it weekly does add up. -
Full stack isn’t about knowing just a backend and little bit of JavaScript. Turns out a bunch of them who applied this week seem it have derived a new meaning for it!
Throwing around terms like “I am exploring MEAN” doesn’t make you sound cool unless you have some working examples that you have built with it.7 -

A CS degree is worthless, all my knowledge of modern frameworks comes from YouTube videos, some codeacademy and a little bit of reading the documentation.
I wonder what it feels like to actually learn something completely. I understand something, then I forget it exits until I have to use it again and by then all I remember is how to google the right stuff. Thoughts?19 -

Boss: I'm not seeing the fix for the simple text change issue
Me: (who cares about little design details which said boss really likes about me) That simple text change is a long line of text and breaks on all screen sizes besides your big ass monitor, so I asked for a designers opinion, which I finally got today.
My bad for caring just a little bit... -
Had my first day as a Software Engineer in one of the most trending software companies. Absolutely crazy how organized a company can be. There are so many talented software engineers I‘m a little bit afraid of the expectations they‘re having. Wish me luck, I‘m just a little software dev who graduated 3 months ago :(4

Not a rant, but maybe someone can help me on this one.
I am currently working on an app that will hopefully go live by the end of the year. Up to now, the webserver and database (for the REST API) is running on an old linux machine. However, as my ISP is not really reliable I want to move this stuff somewhere else. Has someone experience with the varios hosting providers? Currently I am a little bit overwhelmed by all the different solutions out there.
Ideally I would want something that doesn't cost very much now, but also scales with more users.
To make it more concrete, it's basically about neo4j + REST API in Python
Can somehow recommend anything? I really appreciate it, as I am currently a little bit lost on this.
Thanks for reading this!27 -

I’m working 2 jobs at the moment, putting 12+ hours/day, been doing for about 2 months and I’m already burned out;
I’m working for a big e-commerce agency which is about to get bigger, doing mostly outdated Frontend work (Magento) with no sign of raises/promotions/ real growth, since all clients are basically enterprise and only want “ol’ reliable” over innovative.
A lot of smart people, lot of knowledge, pay is fair.
The second job I’m doing (part-time) is for a smaller agency in the same sector, pay is a bit higher, closer time zone and an opportunity to work with newer technologies.
I need to make a decision on one of these two companies since I can’t possibly keep working all these hours.
Is there anything else I need to consider before making a decision?
As a Frontend developer I’m getting a bit tired of working with Magento and its outdated tools, but at the same time seems difficult to switch to something different since I haven’t really worked with anything else, I feel a little bit lost5 -

If you start to get frustrated, take a break. Your brain has two modes of thinking: focused & diffuse. You can only utilize focused mode for a short time, and sometimes it's harder to look at the broader picture. Go take a walk, do some push-ups, or check devRant. You diffuse mode will make some connections when you're not even trying once you relax a little bit.5

~ I knew a little bit of Django ~
~ Now I know a little bit more ~
~ I used to like Python ~
~ Not so anymore ~
~ Why though ~
~ I don’t know ~
I use JS professionally and I have majorly coded in JS in personal projects but I always had this liking towards Python. Now, that feeling is gone. Python doesn’t seem that attractive. JS seems better.
One of the reasons, I feel, is the syntax. JS can fuck-up in places but that C-style syntax is love.
Another reason could be that I still don’t know that much Python or Django to make an opinion? Maybe. Probably.9 -

The other week a Comcast tech was out to install some new equipment. He was unsure whether an antenna could be placed outdoors, so he asked on a Comcast tech group chat. " Write a Java program to find the index of a value in a sorted array. If the value does not find return the index where it would be if it were inserted in order. Example:
[1, 2, 4, 5, 6] 5(target) -> 3(index)
[1, 2, 4, 5, 6] 0(target) -> 0(index)
[1, 2, 4, 5, 6] 7(target) -> 5(index) "

I watched a little bit of F8 yesterday. I felt as If usually do when I see something like this "oh wow this is so cool, look at the things we can do with friends now wow"
Then you realise that it's never how they market it. You get so excited at the potential -
That I'm too focused on it. And that I'll never be as good as I want to be.
I'm aware these concerns conflict with each other a bit.
My first concern comes from not devoting more time to other hobbies that just let me do things away from my computer, tech related or not. And the second comes from feeling like I've hit a wall and I don't know how to produce better projects beyond that wall ATM and when I do put time into other hobbies/skills even if it is tech related I feel as if I'm not progressing. It's frustrating.
These are both things I've been working on lately. Cutting social media has helped a little bit. -
Reading the source of a message queue system I'm planning on extending.
I don't see myself as a rockstar programmer or anything but the construction of arrays from hash tables, sorting those arrays and then a nested for loop to find matches really irks me. Luckily not on the critical message processing path but the stats collection thread. There are mutexes in play though that would probably delay processing a little bit when stats are collected. -
Hello fellow ranters!
So I just switched companies ( free from hell...rants if wanted) and now I'm facing a ton of new things I never worked with. Honestly I'm a little bit scared and thus I want to prepare a bit for the new stuff ahead of me. ( I'm a junior developer with only 4 years professional experience )
What are good resources to get some knowledge in the following topics, so I wont look stupid on my first day at the new company?
Docker
Microservice
DevOps ( CI/CD, Kubernetes )
I know some basic stuff to describe what these words mean but no work experience at all for these. My old work was purely monolithic Java EE 😅
Resources should be in English or German.
Thanks for every help!! 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️6 -
Some of you might appreciate this, thought I'd share.
I'm currently on the board for a new school, and one of the choices we've made is to require a basic software programming class (most likely python) in middle school or jr high.
As a board, we've decided that it serves a couple great purposes: teach critical thinking and understanding (even a little bit) how software is written, since that's the axis of the world.4 -
Many of engineer blogs like to write about how he made the tool work, but rarely explain the back ground... like why it works, what's happening in the background, and why he chose that commands, methods, or options out of other stuff he could chose. I know it's impossible for a person to know everything, but I hope I wouldn't feel so much difficulty to find information which provides a little bit broader scope of knowledge about the tools.

My fingers travel a little bit too much on the keyboard.
I think I may get an Ergodox-ez and fix this by force!1 -
I got hired today. The company uses .Net in those stack and SQL. Which I need to learn a little bit within a week any advice for a junior developer?10

Might be a little bit naive but software engineers have so much power over the society. What is gonna happen if we turn everything off until we get what we want?5

Week : 49
How is the weekend going?
How do you miss a standing target? Is it because he swung his head a little bit when the shot was taken?

Sometimes it's hard to go well in job interview because not always the HR person knows about programming enough to let you show off a little bit with some interesting questions and then you end the interview at if you didn't leave a good impression.7

My currently project. A migration of a project written 5 years ago in Java and PHP, to bash. I want to learn more about this language, the various peculiarities and also take the opportunity for refinements. I'm crazy I know, but what is life without a little bit of madness?27

i'm the only one thinking naming variable can and could be something a little bit subjective? or are everybody else can find the perfect name that make it crystal clear for any person reading it?6

Any cool buttons and inputs CSS library?
I just need cool / elegant / nice buttons and inputs. If it has some image niceties or something else it's ok.
I did little Googling, ngl; I'll look a bit more later in the day, but I figured maybe someone here may have something interesting to comment.8 -
Hey, fellow devranters!
I'd like to know what is your laptop-os choose. I am looking for new laptop now and quite tempted by Mac but a lot of people say it is overpriced. Another option for me is putting new ssd to my old laptop and upgrading its ram. I am a little bit confused :/12 -
Need some help finding a cartoon for a post I'm writing.
You know the cartoon about devs where there's a mountain climber and he sees the peak, and goes "just a little bit more..." But then he reaches it sees it's actually not the top.
Been looking for it but can't find it now... Anyone know where I could find? -
I am starting on a fairly large project (a website). I am quite new to web-development. I know Laravel a little bit, but wanted to hear if I should switch to something like mean or anything else before I get to in depth with my project? Or would Laravel suffice?
As of now, I am only interested in the backend.4 -
Could someone advice me to pursue a programming language? I'm currently working with PHP using laravel Framework. And I 'm thinking about javascript like node js, electron and etc since it enable developers to create cross flatform app from web , to mobile and also to desktop. I'm just a little bit dizzy about these things right now.10

I finally finished a website of a client where I‘m working on since 2012!!! WTF! I never hat such a client before. Sometimes I haven‘t heard anything from them 4 months then they called me, I changed some pictures a did a little bit of styling and then it took months again to get a feedback! To be honest, now 5 years later they need a redesign of their „new“ website.1
-
Today was a little better, we discussed a bit about design with client and agreed to add two new screens inside application. Need to organize some backend logic for this.
Nothing difficult but there might be some problems as we progress trough this data during first implementation.
Don’t have a graphic designer in a team anymore so lots of freedom and mistakes. -
So, I've a side project for some sort of touristic blog, it will have some special graphic customization (interactive maps and other things) and I'm not sure if deploying a WordPress and creating some plugins for the customization or start a website from scratch, I've googled a little bit the pros and cons of WordPress because I've never used it but I'm still not really sure

Hey Fellows!
Just to know, what are your favorites music's for programming? Personnaly it's Bon Jovi but that's sound a little bit clichee5 -
My misses said she was to young for me as I occasionally drop I'm a bit of Brb, brt wtf etc.. into my messages (I don't like lol), and thus she responds with this:
"U need someone who knows what the fuck those silly little letters mean! "
My messages are childish, eh dear?1 -

Starting a C++ developer role in a few weeks. Currently working with C, Perl and a little bit of Java. Have you got any tips for me? :)3 -
The coming week will be super depressing, because I have to start handing over a scala project to another dev who only knows java. This means I have to dumb down everything, because anything other than Java and C# is obviously complex and management only has cheap Java devs available...
At least I don't have to write Java myself (yet), so I will hopefully keep my sanity a little bit longer. -
Is it just me or is devrant a little bit slow to load rants. If so why is that? What should be done to make it better?6
-
I start telling everyone about my cool new idea and start researching how to go about coding it to find that someone has already done it way better than I ever could. T-T
Or, I start coding it for a bit and then forget it ever existed for a few months and then remember it again and then work on it a little more and then forget again and the cycle repeats until I lose interest in the project. -
Not really a rant, but maybe someone can help me on this one.
Me and my brother are thinking about creating our first app. We know what features we want and also how the workflow of our app should be (we even sketched the workflow with an online mockup tool). The programming of the app itself is no problem, but we are both struggling when it comes to create a nice looking, smooth design from our draft. As we both believe that a nice looking UI is important we are not afraid to invest a little bit to get a nicely designed UI - "Make it right, or don't do it at all" ;-)
We searched a little bit in our hometown and found a company that would design us something for at least 15-20k Euros. As we do already have a pretty detailed sketch and also would need to pay that from our own pocket (we do not know if it gets more than a hobby project) its definitely too much for us. So my question is: Are their any app design companies out there that takes a sketch and creates a smooth design from it?4 -
Back in school I could easily ask my older sister (my parents didn't/don't know any higher maths) to help me with my maths homework, like functions, equations and derivatives... 😊
Today I can't anymore because I'm the only one of the family at uni (fml a little bit (but I've got good friends on my side😊))😓 ... I miss those times😥
note: now I'm the one teaching my younger sister😎1 -
Well most of my friends are developers, so we either are working or going out, eating, drinking or just ranting haha... With my girlfriend and my daughter is a little bit more complicated, but they're there to remind me that not everything in life should be about work

Any suggestions for good reading regarding the boundaries of Microservices? By this I mean a domain driven design approach.
I have a pretty good idea of what I “think” is right for my project. But something is telling me to challenge my idea.
For a little bit of background... I am using separate DBs for each Microservices, and building APIs to access the information across the system.2 -
I hate all the companies who dont accept me i wish them just a little bit of iq they are so so so so mean😢
Goddddd what r u doing exactly?
Pleaseeeeeee do something a good thing plz😌5 -
Hi guys !
I start "studies" to become Web Developer and after 1 month and a half of studies, my teacher asks us to create our first project in groups of 3 or 4. Do you have any ideas of what kind of project we could build? I was thinking of an e-commerce site with our knowledge (HTML5, CS3, a bit of JavaScript, SQL, a little PHP ($ _SESSION, $ _POST and $ _GET) and CRUD).
Is it a good idea?9 -
Any recomendations of CSS framework? I'm currently looking at Bulma (for some reason Vue tutorials are using it a lot), but lacks a little bit in documentation.
What I'm looking:
- Minimal size
- Responsive
- Flexbox based
- Not material (please)
- Without annoying dependencies (OPTIONAL)
- Good or some documentation7 -
Yeah, I chickened out a little bit when someone had asked me about my project. Yeah, you covered a little bit for me and I'm thankful for that.
But for heaven's sake you broken vinyl disc I don't have to listen to your accusations for a whole day. Your hypocritical behavior put me in that stressful situation in the very first place.
There's a perfectly fine reason why the teacher occasionally tells you to simply shut the fuck up and I guess you already know that.
Nobody. Wants. To. Fucking. Hear. It.
And I sure as hell hope I won't ever have to -
Ummm, maybe it's a little bit offtopic but could anyone help me with pointers in C language? The best would be some free exercises or tutorials from the internet that I didn't find...(I was looking for a long time before this desperate post...:/)
If it does not belong here, pls, let me know and I will delete this post!
Thank you so much :)
(Ps: I will have a big exam on Tuesday so I want to practice..)12 -
I start to learn Java in university. They are using Eclipse but I want to use IntelliJ and we are also allowed to do it...
IntelliJ looks a little bit overloaded at a first glance but I like Jetbrains...
Would you use Eclipse or IntelliJ?8 -
VSCode for Laravel sucks. Blade is totally broken. If you know good plugin with emmet support and blade highlighting together, let me know. Also Laravel Mix is a little bit trashy and buggy with Pug :P2

I have got my first oss issue, I am finding a bit difficult to make changes in the code but I did achieve what the issue demands by writing a basic script to get it approved from the collaborator.
A little help will be appreciated

Today, I will start my own project in laravel, so I can learn a little bit more because I'm still very new to this.
Does anyone have any advice you can give me?9 -
Which one should i get?
Dell E6220-6230 or Lenovo X220-230?
Maybe save up a little bit for a Dell E7240?8 -
If you all weren't pretending to still be here which I wonder if you all are, what would you all do if I suddenly didn't care about anything at all ? Kind of curious because it is hard.
Since you know there are people even breeding small children to slake the lusts of garbage motherfuckers who have STDs ruining one generation after another and that's just another nail on my cross holding me up while your fake asses pretend to give a damn about the patriarchy and preferred pronouns and all that other bullshit
Or continue this COVID 19 masquerade
Wtf ?
Do you not all feel even a little stupid yet ? Even just a little like monsters ? Even just a little bit ashamed ? Or when you're being beaten to death in your dotages by teenagers for being pedophiles in wheelchairs is what it will take ?10 -
Over the weekend, I made the move to use a flash as a repository (don't need no wires to repo!). Felt that needing 12 MB to store less than 2 MB was a little bit high.
So I figured "simple fix, I'll just reformat the drive from 32Kb allocation to something less, like 4Kb".
After 30 seconds of a single copy/ paste, the transfer was complete. Checking the size... accidently clicked "4096 kilobytes" instead of "4096 bytes". -
Why devrant icon, background etc. is ":/" ? I mean I feel like it's a little bit miserable lol. Any thoughts on that ? :/7

Markdown is useful for a quick note, AsciiDoc is useful if you want to go a bit deeper into customization and features.
But I find myself reaching for (Xe)LaTeX quite often once the document I'm trying to compose requires even a little custom content. Am I alone in this? What's your favourite go-to for quickly setting up not-so-standard documents?5 -
I've been waiting to pull the plug and move to a new company for some time now... The only reason I haven't done it yet is, I don't like too many variables. I am waiting to pay off a loan before going job hunting, but saw an ad this morning which tickled me a little bit... So, I'm job hunting after 1156 again... Only this time, I am in no rush (not to temp fate) and will try and find a better job

Continuing learning a little bit of Java with sololearn. Definitely hard considering I'm coming from Python hahaha. I'm pretty excited to learn Java though because I've always been interested in the possibilities of the language and of learning OOP3

Woke up at 6am today to do a little bit of work (code review and demo deployment) before I had to catch the train to go to Antwerp only to find out I misplaced the appointment on 24 instead of today.. 😒 slow clap for me, well done dude
On a brighter note, I am now actually on the train to go to TEDx Leuven, anyone else? 😀 -
Where is the mac vs ubuntu vs windows war for developers? I am a Windows user (on a dell latitude e5570), but I am considering a new laptop because everyone says macbooks are great and outperform windows (which on gradle builds is true).
I mainly use my laptop only for developing and programming things like: full-stack, Android and a little bit of deeplearning/ML.
So which one would you recommend and why? These are pretty heavy tasks, from my opinion.10 -
Any thoughts about bootstrap studio? I don't think I like it. Purchased and played around with it for a little bit and it just doesn't seem like a good tool.3

I have to be motivated to do SOMETHING but every project I think of has no purpose if it gets took or doesn’t continuously serve its purpose
I mean maybe a little bit of encouragement ?
That leads to something other than tradgedy ?16 -
Some people just cant write BEM and sass with a little bit of common sense!!! Arrrrrhhhh this shit is just so messed up!!

Just got hired for an internship duing QA testing for an insurance companies software team. I've been told their systems run mostly Java, SQL, php, JavaScript, and a little bit of Cobol. Any advice, tips, or things to look out for?1
