TL: Why the hell you require a month to integrate this engine?
Me: It will take that much time, can't help it.
TL: it can be done within a week.
Me: Then you do it.
TL: Ok I will show how it's done in a week.
ON FRIDAY
Me: What's the status on that integration?
TL: Oh yeah about that, you have to carry it ahead, I have some monitoring to do.
Me: Ok, give me the repository access, I will carry it ahead.
ME OPENS REPOSITORY.
There's only a new controller file with nothing it.5 -
Was letting my five year old cousin play on my laptop today. She was writing numbers in notepad, and after typing '123', she erased them because she wanted to start over from 0 instead.
Later she started typing 1 and 0 repeatedly in random sequence.
She may be a robot. Either way, I sense a bright future ahead for her.2 -
"Opps.. I'm sorry, but you have insufficient rights to open this Ticket."
Well. You know what? I AM THE FUCKING SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR YOU CUNT!
YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT RIGHTS to restrict me access to that fucking ticket!
"Oh. In that case, go ahead."
THANK YOU. FUCKING PRICK.4 -
Programming as much as I can now because I've been behind on my school stuff so for the rest of the month no programming until I catch up and go ahead.
I can't wait till college so I can learn whatever I want.25 -
Just got a job description from a recruiter with this little gem:
"maintain internet using MS Visual Studio"
If I have to use VS to keep your internet up, your company has some serious technical challenges ahead.8 -
I have been up for 3 days now, coding. I am dangerously ahead of master.
To late to turn back now.
This fucker is getting pushed.22 -
This is for all the developers out there. Keep learning and keep going!
"No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn't trying."1 -
"For our app we are using Docker, so for the new server we will need a barebone Linux install"
"Oh please no, Linux is not for a stable server and is very hard to manage, let's install Windows Server 2002 and you can virtualize everything you want"
"Wait, we really can use our cpu cycles to something better..."
"Sorry, too late, already installing!"
Our sysadmin is a Microsoft integralist, we should RUN!18 -
Riskiest Dev choice...
Leaving a previous job, moving 1000KM (620 Miles) away with no job prospects and going absolutely broke.
This was all in the name of “I need a better job”, so what better way to force yourself to get one.
I’m currently in my second job since then and now make just over double what I was earning before.
Sometimes it takes a high risk to get out ahead.4 -
Ya go ahead. Touch my screen. The next thing I would do is get that same fingerprint from my screen, unlock your phone and fucking factory reset it. Or worse, message all the girls in your contact that you have a tiny dick. Go ahead. I dare you to touch my screen.8
-
Lol, only two years ago I saw a new TV show in which a developer is waiting for his code to compile. Apparently not everyone is ahead of the curve!4
-
I have a 6 month license on PyCharm Professional Edition.
I don't think I'll be learning Python anytime soon, so if anyone wants to use it, go ahead and redeem it.

PS: Would be nice if you could comment that you used it, so that other people know that it's gone.29 -
The best part of being a developer? Finding extra side work (easily) to completely pay for a vacation for my wife and I to Ecuador/Peru! We're currently sitting in the airport!2
-
Yeah sure, you can have your site files and database. Host it yourself. Get your cousin to maintain it. Go ahead. Yeah, sure, you're gonna do ~really~ well. Bye bye, ya micro-managing fuck nugget :D3
-
I will disregard the fact that our target platform is windows, so sure, newly hired intern, go ahead and use linux if you want, it doesnt really matter.
After that he accomplished 1 day's work in a week because he was googling how to set up linux environments

Privacy.
I have an Amazon Echo.
I've enabled Hey, Siri.
I've given Google the OK.
I don't tape my web cam.
And I find it highly amusing that someone has potentially seen my fat, hairy ass strut naked about my home office while singing "What's up" at the top of my lungs. Perhaps multiple times.
Should I feel bad? That I may have cost the American taxpayer money in the therapy required to rehabilitate those FBI or NSA agents that have witnessed me in my full glory?13 -
*desolders Ethernet, USB and GPIO rails from Raspberry Pi to decrease height*
(Desoldering that shit from a Pi fucking sucks btw, no idea what solder or pads they use but it's garbage)
*boots up Raspbian to see whether it still works and to set things up*
...
Oh shit.. I need keyboard and mouse for this :') fuck me I guess... Long live planning ahead. Does there exist a KVM over TCP/IP yet? 😅19 -
Me: Alright, lets hammer out some Udemy courses...
*Opens course*
Instructer: So we are going to go ahead and download Code::Blocks
Me: *Audible sigh*10 -
So my company finally decided to make the shift from using irc for internal chats to Slack.
After a month of patiently waiting for my team to make the shift, I went ahead asked one of my (young) fellow teammate why he hasn't shifted to Slack yet. His reply:
"What's Slack?"8 -
The only person responsible for the server maintenance has put in his resignation period in.
The other person that has access to the servers does not know the difference between production & lab.
Fun times ahead14 -
Not a rant but...
Happy New Year guys!! Glad that I found DevRant and I hope all of you will have a kickass year ahead ❤️ Cheers! 🍻2 -
Some guy: Dude what're you doing?
Me: Making an app.
Goes ahead to ask what an app is, I give him a brief and try to show him some features of my app.
Some guy: So that means you can "make your own" facebook. Why not build something like Facebook or WhatsApp?
Speechless...4 -

Boss set me up for a last minute certification to prepare for next years new projects. Went through a lot of material in just two days, then had to take the exam immediately after the last class ahead of everyone else. Aced it!^^
What surprised me the most though is how much I still enjoy learning new stuff (wasn't even tech), even after 8 yrs on the job..4 -
First (procedural) c++ lectures:
Prof: K guys, go ahead and attempt the homework
Students: sir, how can we have 1 file per exercise?
P: oh, you can't, just make one huge file with multiple functions and rename them to "main" whenever you wanna run them
Me: WHY DO I EVEN PAY FOR THIS BULLSHIT
Ps: not allowed to use classes as that's too hard...8 -
do you have a GREAT eye for design?!
can you write a bubble sort algorithm in binary?!
do you know native, desktop, embedded, AND web programming languages?!
do you know you can go fuck yourselves?!
good luck unicorn searching 🤡 companies. there is no human that can do all of those on a level that you want. but, go ahead and set yourself up for failure. i'll remain firmly grounded on planet earth 🌎6 -
Me: "I should try to waste less money this month"

(Please describe in comments, I don't actually have 1000 euros for whiskey.)11 -
I find it ironic that some python devs hate on nodejs because of npm modules. But then go ahead and create a virtual environment for every new python project.6

A dji matrice 100 drone connected to a raspberry pi, and HDMI.
Did I mention already that I love my job?1 -
Some free time at the weekend. My immediate thoughts are "Ooh, I could get some work done to get ahead on Monday"
The cons of your job as a hobby! -
I'm turning 28 this year and I still feel I got a really really long way ahead in understanding Javascript and all the new web app building technologies happening.
Feeling a little frustrated for not learning faster and getting kind a stuck, I'm not getting any younger.11 -
Wasting about an hour trying to leave detailed comments and suggestions for a fellow student on an university project's code.
Said person just respond on the team group with "If anyone does not like something, he/she can go ahead to change it, so we would move on faster"
THEN WHY THE FUCK ARE WE STILL DOING CODE REVIEWS???6 -
I become Windows insider as soon it was announced. I have been using Skip head branch for my main pc for the last 5 years.
It meant installing at least three windows version every month for the last 5 years. It was a good journey(Still going on).
The one thing surprised me that in those last 5 years that windows never started installing the update when I was working. Not a single time my work or progress was lost due to windows update.4 -
Fellow devs,
If your boss asks you for an estimation don't follow your gut coz your gut sucks. Ask for time to analyse before giving any estimation. And yeah don't forget external factors such as :
- third party tool down (github I'm looking at you)
- updates (windows, IDE, etc.)
- 90% of the time it doesn't work
- if it involves front dev just go ahead and double your estimation
- YOUR BOSS THINKS YOU OVERESTIMATED
Sincerly.2 -
Out of necessity (or rather: lack of support) I've been neglecting my test suite for the past ~month. Now that one of the beta versions of RSpec has better Rails 6 support, I can finally get back to writing tests. Yay!
I just merged staging into my testing branch, and it's now 344 commits ahead of origin! eep.
So, I've got lots of tests to write. yay.random root loves her tests test suite yay! i didn't break anything! rspec root talks in third person in the tags surprise!3 -
Still have access to my last companies github. Went snooping and saw main branches ahead and behind in commits from dev branches.
Decided to look into the PRs, and found this gem from my incompetent old VP of engineering.
Same guy who fired all the developers to save on money, and then contracted us back to do our jobs at 3x the rate. Basically a business savant!4 -
Top 10 database engines on db-engine... I never knew the top 3 were so far ahead of the game, if that site is anything to go by.15

From acme.sh manpage:

My lead developer has a tendency of saying "that movie fucking sucks" every time I mention a movie.
From Saturday to Sunday, I have seen ready player one a total of 6 times. If tomorrow I mention it and he says that it sucked I am gonna go ahead and Texas bitch slap him across the face with the power of Spielberg.
There is only so much trolling I can take my dudes. And I really fucking enjoyed the movie.
If you haven't seen it then please go ahead!!!20 -
That moment when you are just testing a web framework, you type some random text, open in browser, and Google asks whether it could translate it. Yea sure... go ahead! 😛5

Apple: some bullshit quote about being ahead of the competition.

Nobody solved this super complicated cryptography puzzle last time. I guess I have created an unsolvable mystery of epic proportions. Anyway, if you wanna give it a try, go ahead:

I'm making an educational game for a school project.
What I thought I had to do:
Write complex code
Learn to animate
Make all resources by myself
What i do:
Drag and drop stuff into unity.
Moving arrows around.
Watch tutorials.
Im 3 weeks ahead of my planing... After 6 days.
No wonder there are so many 3rd class unity games -
So the company I'm interning in just got a project in WordPress from an old client. I'm their "WordPress backend guy" apparently coz I'm apparently the only one who seems to know WordPress. The site has multiple malwares and they want to redesign the thing too. Work starts on Monday and now DevRant algo is showing me a lot of WordPress rants. Guess good times are ahead.4

Don't treat development as just a profession that ends when you clock out. Experiment and play at home. Learn new skills and languages and stay ahead of the curve.
-
Was in a meeting today when it was announced by some higher ups that everyone but me can now leave. After it was just me and some higher ups they began to praise my work and congratulate me for being 2 days ahead of schedule. Before I realised what my mouth was doing, I'd said "two days ... so far"5
-
That's it!
Trying to plan ahead for each day but i keep failing !
I go to bed early at night but still cant wake up as early as i hope to.
Anybody has a solution for this?8 -
!rant
I bitch a lot about the complexity of Rust. But every time I do it I go ahead and applaud just how fucking good the compiler messages are.
A fucking thing of beauty.2 -
Ask yourself as you plan the meeting:
1. Is an email a better solution to this?
If the answer is yes, plz just send the fucking email. Else, try and find a way to make it an email instead. If all else fails then yeah go ahead and have your stupid meeting. -
When a client says they no longer have time for one of their websites and asks you to make it completely autonomous.
Yeah sure, I'll go ahead and install Skynet on it right away!
I no longer have any motivation to work with that client. -
Traffic lights optimizer. Imagine big AI being plugged to all city's traffic lights and changing all durations in order to adjust all of them, if we add smart cars connected to it we might remove traffics at all. It is way ahead in future but would be cool.4
-
A client of ours renewed their SSL certificates without prior notice.
The app we developed for them uses SSL pinning.
The app does not include the new certificates.
The entire userbase is hereby locked out of the app.
Fun times ahead 🙃1 -
in some parts of the world it is 28 already and it is my birthday. so age++
not mentioning it because of stress ball but because I need lot of best wishes as the road ahead is very difficult and dreams are very big.
thanks everyone here to make me feel home2 -
Alright, so I am going to start doing dev streams
twitch.tv/retraxa
I am going to stream with @ewpratten at some point tonight. Were gonna be working on robot code and my personal website. I have literally 0 reputation on Twitch so if this doesn't work out I can't really loose. If y'all wanna stop by and give us some stuff to converse about, cool articles or extreme politics and our belief systems go ahead.6 -
I’m currently learning development thru a remote bootcamp, I spend 80% of free time trying to build stuff and doing challenges. None of my friends understand or care, how do you combat loneliness/make friends when you’re a beginner? I’ve been to a few meetups but everyone’s way ahead of me. Bootcamp classmates are cool but none are in my city.9
-
Fun meeting ahead, coworker that writes unreadable code (and insists that it is the best code ever) is going to complain that nobody wants to work with him.4
-
the excitement you feel finishing a project way ahead of deadline for them to still not push it live 5 months later bc of copy tweaking
-
today is teachers day so I want to wish you all teachers, seniors, mentor and valuable information provider for your successful life ahead.6
-
So yeah, it's cool, I only built a process based on years of experience. Just go ahead and completely ignore it. A failure to plan on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine.
-
Sure go ahead throw me off a bridge into a task thats completely out of my ability in an area I have no experience or understanding almost completely unrelated to the role in which I applied for.2
-
Fuck college dude. My professor is a shit. I'm slow when it comes to instructions and some learning and so I don't usually get started as fast. Then after he decides to yell at me and tell me everything I'm doing is wrong he explains like I'm stupid and then fucking not even 30 seconds later asks me why im not 4 problems ahead with my paper.8
-
.Net 5: the future of dotnet.
Microsoft announced it today and they are saying ahead of time compilation is being supported across other dotnet workloads not jutlst UWP... So fucking excited 🤘🤘🤘
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotn...3 -
Worst part of being a dev is that feeling that you're walking up the down escalator. Can't get ahead and if you stop, you're back where you started.
Oh and some punk kids keep passing you on the way! Lol -
Wtf? What kind of user agent header is that? Why don't you go ahead and insert my fucking social security number in there, Android? According to amiunique, this is literally a unique header ON ITS OWN.7

I want to waste these motherfuckers trying to come up with most cringe clickbaity titled articles. At least I want to break their kneecaps...
"You’re Using ChatGPT Wrong! Here’s How to Be Ahead of 99% of ChatGPT Users"
No, I am not you fucking imbecile.7 -
Not planning ahead, just start at some point, adding just a tiny little feature after another, and then wondering why your to do app (just to check out a new framework or language) suddenly comes with Blockchain, a chatbot and a machine learning algorithm that (slowly) learns when the best time to show random cat videos is...
-
So I'm gonna send the e-mail with these 4 questions, is that OK or am I missing anything?
"Go ahead"
* Clicks send *
"Could you also ask..."
NO! DON'T SAY THAT'S IT'S OK TO SEND IF YOU STILL WANT TO ADD STUFF TO IT!1 -
Positive story ahead.
Had to try and make a new system on my own in a company with no tech staff. I was scared shitless of the responsibility. About a year later we got 2 new devs and people are somehow paying for our very flawed and incomplete mvp.
It's fulfilling and fun. Taking something from zero and suddenly having an actual application with customers.
The other 2 engineers are fun and we talk shit while coding and teaching each other. We also study new tech every day to keep getting better.
I'm even getting some stocks soon.
Long road ahead but honestly, life's good. -
- Continue working through my CS degree
- Finish my current game I'm working on
- get an Internship
- Learn OpenGL or Vulkan
- Learn C (I already know C++ and C#)
I got some work ahead of me, but this seems doable! I'm excited for the next 100 weeks! -
(Antman spoiler ahead)
When they hack a tunnel to the quantum realm in php ecks dee
Also when you can't enjoy the movie because you recognize php5 -
Got a rubber duck for christmas, and it reflects my personality perfectly. Some mean debugging ahead... *mwahahaa*5

Today.
Client: “can you make this last minute change to something fundamental?” (Paraphrased)
Me: “yes it’s doable but a major pain in the ass at this late stage”
Client: “great! Well if it’s just a quick change sit tight in it just now and i’ll let you know tomorrow if it’s to go ahead”
Me: “is this real life?”1 -
I can't work
I can't sleep
I can't eat
I can't code
I can't go have fun
I can't have a conversation
Because I've got a new exciting idea "💡" buzzing all over my mind all the time.
It's been 9 days already and it's still exciting, probably even more. I think that means it might be worth going ahead and realising it.6 -
Me - 1+1 is 2
Client : Did you say 1+1 is 2
Because even i thought 1+1 is 2 and i think we should go ahead with 1+1 2 because that seems like a good thing to me.
***"1+1 is 2" can be replaced by some long tech discussion
#my brain hurts3 -
!rant but wondering,
I'm doing Instrumented test for my android app, and wrote that code to check if the fragment loads data and click on first item and check if all is working as expected, am I doing it right?
Any help would be great :)
Warning: LIGHT theme ahead, room brightness is higher than my screen and I can't see shit in dark theme :\10 -
Ok so apparently somebody at Google gcp thought it would be a great idea to be able to select more than one instance at a time and select something like delete and it goes ahead and deletes it without any sanity checks.

You come home and you realize the solution to your bug didnt solve everything. 😤😭, then you think about how many moves the bug is ahead. This is like playing chess. A keyboard and mouse game.1

Asked my colleague not to commit android settings and build files into git, ignores me and goes ahead to do it anyway. Now, every time I pull from Git, I have 6k+ files that are changed 😑2

Woah! Got nice response for "mystartup"! I heard people got many conversions from their posts. Thank all of those who posted 😊 If you haven't already then go ahead and post about your product and tag it with "mystartup" 🙌🏼

I tried and I'm giving up. I have spent nearly two years of my life trying to teach kids to code but it feels like standing in quicksand I don't get to learn new stuff I feel myself turning into the kind of teachers ppl make fun of here. I used to pride myself in being the fun teacher that kids look up to. Guess I'll quit while I'm ahead1
-
These days now, my boss trusts me so much and takes my opinions and suggestions and goes ahead with those. Not to mention so lenient with me regarding work times since I had the baby. I’m melting thinking about her.2

Lets create new project!!!! Oh our favorite package is 5 major released ahead. It completely another piece of technology after 7 years of development. Lets use 7 years old package!!!
-
Oh yeah 🙌🏼 So here is the other thing! Many of us work on side projects where we build awesome stuff in our spare time. We don't get much publicity, userbase or conversions as we are not marketing people. So go ahead and write short desc about your product along with website link if you have any. Product screenshot is most welcome 😜 Don't forget to tag post with "mystartup" 🙌🏼 Looking forward to see awesome projects.4

99% disk usage? Ah, Windows is updating. Guess I'll just go ahead and get nothing done then. Oh, devRant!1

Man, some days, these fucking managers just make me want to get fucking drunk...
clueless questions, annoying fucking fake priority shit immediately asking for this and that with absolutely no planning or thinking ahead
its really like guiding kids through kindergarten some days
i want to bring some seriousness and structure to this company but some days.... man, i just am done with it10 -
Plan my workday a day ahead. And plan it into as small steps as possible.
So that the next day I do not have to think about what to do. And that all steps are so small that I wont have much mental rejection for them. -
I have a sleep roll and I purr like a cat when I cuddle with it up.
Go ahead, judge me, I’ll beat you to death.7 -

Me, reading the GPS for upcoming obstructions: “Man, I really gotta learn the different road signs. Because I’m 99% sure that’s not telling us there’s a man digging his own grave up ahead.”

Gives an award winning VR idea to our 'Digital Manager'
Says it's too hard for us to do ( it wasn't ) , goes out and pitches it to another digital agency for 'Help', ( mainly coz of the freelance commission )
They go ahead with the idea and make their campaign with it.
we don't get anything. no credit, nothing.
I wonder how the hell someone become a manager with that much of stupidity.2 -
Many ATMs here in India are planning to upgrade from Windows XP due to the wannacry ransomware attacks.
I literally want wannacry to seize my data so that i can go ahead and pay them 600$ to do something that even the FUCKING GOVERNMENT wont do.5 -
Why do we never talk about angular? It was way ahead all the time. Like you got all these nice things with Vue 3 and React 42, but bro angular got it all for years..
It feels so nice learning it.7 -
This new intern chose to write CSS instead of LESS/SASS even though I showed him how much time/lines of code were saved using LESS because he was "so used to it". Go ahead.. Enjoy writing 1 million lines of css to accomplish the same task.1

Manager 101: Plan things ahead.
My manager: Hey let's move this complex server today (Friday) all hands on deck, no plan in advanced. Nothing.
Why so much people bullshit they way to managerial positions?10 -
Sure, client. Go ahead and add a button to your website that proclaims to do something, but then don't bother hiring a developer to make it do that thing when clicked. It'll all happen by Maaaaaagic!4
-
How seriously do you take TDD, CI/CD, automated testing, clean commits, good architecture, Agile, low coupling/high cohesion, etc ... ?
How much time do you invest in those things if you have a deadline up ahead?
Have you seen these things being valued or disregarded at the previous companies you worked for?17 -
Dear Sir, Mam, and anything outside and in-between.
If you feel like making a programming tutorial, go ahead. I encourage it. But please, please for the love of god make sure that your videos title and your video is in the same language.
Sincerely, the people that don't speak your language1 -
Not 1 Business Unit in Company: We need this feature immediately.
My Team: Anyone object to this 2 hour old merge request?
Me: Well, yeah, I found a couple things that we should probably go ahead and address.
My Team: we'll fix that in a future release
Me: But you said that last release...
My Boss: MR Accepted
Also My Boss: Can you make a new user story to fix this?1 -
That awkward moment when you're trying to find patterns to pin point trade ahead transactions on stock market and you realized that you were hired as Android developer.

Biggest interview of my entire life is coming up on Thursday. I really need this to go well - it's more than double my current salary, at a time where I'm really starting to struggle to make ends meet. There's an actual "team", and from my interactions with them over the last four interviews, I think they're cool people. It's still a little unusual, because although there's a team or cohort of seniors that I'd be joining, every senior developer is still somewhat siloed, leading their own juniors. I'd also get to be remote 75% of the time, which I think I've realized is a "must have" benefit.
I don't know if it's coincidental or just bad timing then that I've been having episodes of pretty intense vertigo and panic attacks far more frequently than normal lately - even before I had this interview lined up. I realized recently that I must have some kind of anxiety disorder. I don't know if that's from the military, or just from being fucked up via my own missteps. But I can't keep having these attacks.
Anyone who's willing to share - I don't really have anyone to ask. How do you deal with this type of thing? I went to see a shrink last year, but he just gave me pills that replaced these issues with others.10 -
First they make it difficult to do your job. "Only use this server for your testing with twenty other engineers". And when you adjust to that, they change it to impossible. "The server is off limits while demos are on going" .. But you're expected to continue working at full speed ahead.
-
Programming is like climbing a giant mountain covered with other smaller mountains. You conquer one small mountain (i.e. bugs, refactor, etc) just to realize there are many more mountains ahead before you get anywhere near the final summit.

Way too much stuff is having a Y2K type date error in 2020! So frustrating that people did not even think 10 years ahead. All this stuff is solved already and not implementing it well is just lazy.6

I finally get the go ahead to push an update to a client site into production. Client then sends out marketing email about changes later that afternoon. The next day the client decides they are not ready to start fulfilling orders from one of the new products I added. Now I have to rush a change to remove the product links from the site.2

just plan ahead? there's no point in doing a meeting where no one has thought about the subject beforehand or, even worse, if the interested parties are not present1

Go ahead and start programming says boss, we're 95% this project is happening. It's for sure...
3 months later it's cancelled and customer had no idea we were working on it.

Another project, another team, another shitshow in codebase.
Now instead of doing work and implementing long awaited features... few weeks of minor refactorings ahead, untangling unnecessary complexities...
... but mostly - explaining the team why their 12-months work is pile of shitty spaghetti, and how it should really be done.
Explaining basics to "seniors" is the most exhausting thing.3 -
Was bored af with assignment at hand. So just went ahead and wrote a class to implement Eat. Sleep. Code. Repeat. XD6

What better way to learn a language than creating something with it. So I went ahead and made an API for devRant in crystal.
https://github.com/iostreamer-X/...
And I swear that language has potential. It flawlessly(almost) combines the best of both worlds(interpreted and compiled).
IGN: 7/10 Too new but fresh af1 -
Dear Client,
If you could go ahead and decide your product pricing instead of having me publish the wrong pricing and get all your customers excited only for them to see you double the price later? That'd be greeeeaaaat. M'kay?
P.S. I make money when you make money. You're gonna lose money now. Lots of it.1 -
Me: hey guys there seems to be an integration problem?
Vendor: hacky workaround
Me: no that’s a hacky workaround, please check the integration
Vendor (sometime later): yeah so we made an engineering change like, a while back, which fundamentally alters stuff.
Me: so shit is fucked because you don’t think customers should be informed ahead of release? Dude do you not want our money? -
I did one thing really smart, schedule my vacation and tell them no access to computer. I also did a stupid thing. I told them 2weeks ahead. So for the next 2weeks I’m going to work double everyday. Lesson learn.5

Built a quick mockup for a custom CRM as the client was unsure about the UX/UI and wanted to see something before going ahead, used an online tool for the example.
Client wasn't happy when they saw the overall breakdown of costs. They didn't want to pay as much because "most of it was already built"5 -
Still waiting for the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to be re-released or declared stable to go ahead, format and start over on my laptop.

Why do I prefer robots to humans, you ask? I'd love to tell you.
If I tell a robot that I want my room vacuumed, they wouldn't purposefully mess up the room instead. It understands a small set of instructions.
But if I tell a human, a friend for example, that I have abandonment issues, you best believe they will go ahead and abandon me exactly when I need them.
Or if I tell a human, a potential fwb for example, that I can't take emotional stuff, you best believe that they will do a 180 and become the most romantic person ever.
And that, is why I prefer robots. Now, one of you go ahead and make an intelligent robot that I could date. I'm literally done with people.10 -
I have two potential client meetings next week. The first one now knows she needs a website (but I have no clue what her budget is), I think she wants me to host the site as well as do site maintenance. The second potential client I'm working using the barter system (but I think she will end up owing me some money at the end). We will see how they both go.2

One of my very first PR's didn't even get a comment and I worked hard on it...
Feels bad man, all I need is some kind of yes, thanks for this, or no, this doesn't fit the project goals.
After patiently waiting, went ahead and created my own gem! No response sucks.
Why does this happen?1 -
i'm afraid that having discovered the power of multithreading has made my code worse.
case in point: me has to calculate an unknown 3rd point of an equilateral triangle many, many times. however, me doesn't get the formula, so me goes ahead and loops over all possible coordinates until it finds the correct one.
yep, it's definitely gotten worse.2 -

One of the great lessons I've learned in this career was to: "Stop rewriting up that code to perfection and start moving on to better things. Keep moving ahead. That code will be replaced and get messy again anyway."
But that doesn't mean you should write bad-designed or sloppy code.2 -
Ordered to implement Old functionality in New system, not allowed to fix it, refactor or change the underlaying mess.

Maybe I should just goto sleep.... It's actually 2:30am here...3 -
Finishing at least one novel so I can jumpstart a new career and get out of web development while I'm still ahead. That or get better at math/physics so I can solve anti-gravity/free energy and become a legend. Neither of these things is ever likely to happen.4

Applying for an entry level software job and having the "let's do a hackathon" project. I cant really contribute much to this wk because im mostly doing dev stuff in my free time.
But league and, well, strategy games in general taught me a lot about micromanaging stuff and thinking ahead. My advice is, if you wanna get better at most mental tasks, go download lol or grab a copy of cities or eu4 and play for half an hour every day.9 -
Whenever I see someone complaining that a game or something is taking forever to be made, I just want to sit them down and give them the tools to do it and say ¨Hey, you want it to be done? Go ahead and make it yourself¨ and then walk away.

Have you ever been there when you write some code with everything you know and it still throws an error in the end when everything is said and done, you go ahead and do a last stupid thing that you know is not going to work but, WOAH... It worked. Then you didn't even bothered to know why, instead you were like, fuck it, if it works, IT WORKS!!!4

I always start with a personal need. I can't really commit to projects that I wouldn't use myself. Once I have the need, I spend days trying to Google if it exists, and if not, I go ahead. (Then sometimes I find out later that it does exist, it's just that they suck at SEO.)1

Sometimes, all you just need is to...
Disconnect yourself from everyone and everything for some time, and find a place where you find peace of mind and comfort.
Direct communication with your inner soul which is also known as healthy self-talk gives all the answers and helps you find the way to move ahead.
Self-motivation works wonders, remember that!1 -
This week is the week of planning ahead for the whole left year upto beginning of next year.

Gotta love waking up to a notification from Apple Seed saying "iMac Pro is now available."
Since I did sales I knew some pricing ahead of time, but after looking at the upgrades and the max price, all I can say is, what the fuck.
Welp, that was enough of Apple for the day.4 -

Upper management has a huge meeting and decides NOT to merge in buggy or incomplete or untested code just because it's the due date (you know, quality over quantity? And an attempt to cut back PM's unrealistic expectations)
2 sprints later: "So we're going to go ahead with the merge. Yes, we know the feature isn't complete, but we promised blah blah blah"
So much for that <.<;;1 -
I figured out how to skip 2 months of development so we could launch Long ahead of schedule.
Question is should I tell them or do it? I don't feel like it really as I've been treated like shit and am looking for a New job.
It will take the stress off collegues, perhaps as a goodbye gift when I leave I'll put it on a thumb drive and give it if I feel bad.2 -

Follow-up on my previous Lenovo shipping rant:
After shipping my charger ahead of schedule separately, they've now extended the expected ship date of the main unit from the 4th to the 17th of December, two whole weeks. Expected to arrive December 26, aka the week that I'll be out of town visiting family for christmas :/ -

When I think about "collapsing the stack" (more out of the box features), I realise that Microsoft was way ahead of the curve.
Deno aims to make everything so much simpler because it has squashed all the tools you need into one (whether it's in one binary is just a detail), but Microsoft was already doing this with C# and Visual Studio years ago.
I do not mean to suck off Microsoft, I just wish the open source community would leave its tribalism mentality and see how corporations have tried to make developer experience better.
"What do developers actually need?" is not a question many open source projects ask.
It's slowly happening with Deno and Go leading that front, but we have a long road ahead of us.6 -
Ability to stop time, it would give me enough time to finish my extra projects, catch up on my sleep, and always be finished ahead of schedule.

Since you started your job, how many programming books have you read to get ahead in your job?
Examples:

I know someone that’s constantly paranoid about being spied on by the government and fears companies stealing his code e.g. github, Microsoft etc.
His solution:
do nothing until we find a secure platform to write code on so that our ‘billion dollar ideas don’t get stolen’
Suffice to say that he’s a very bad coder, not that I’m really that good but compared to him I’m light years ahead.1 -
Ouch. Difficult decision ahead. Be 30 years old. Have a decent amount of experience on the .net stack.
Ditch it all and go all in on Java EE or continue to pursuit mastery of .net?5 -
After a weekend of struggling with dev, I am finally seeing some progress...Slowly but surely.

When you have time, can you squeeze this project in?
Look, I don't have time ever. Projects are scheduled months in advance. Nothing ever finishes ahead of schedule. If you want to bump another project, just say it! -
Anyone plays Gladiabots (https://gfx47.itch.io/gladiabots)? I used to play it a long time ago and recently "discovered" it again :) I think that this game can make you a better programmer/dev because it challenges you to plan ahead and then "implement". If you want to play a match you can find me under the same nick (but my AI is very weak draft version). BTW do you know any similar games?3

My dad showed me vb.net when I was 13 or something and just went ahead to try to make different types of games with Windows forms, it was a lot of fun even if the games were garbage(I had a gazillion buttons on one because I couldn't figure out how to make the logic reusable with the hp bar); it is what put me on the programmer/engineering path1

Today I started my first machine in a data center after configuring it :) It feels awesome to contribute in an awesome place like this! Everyone on my team now seems to to agree with everything I say about things we should do.

Spent half a day working on some code to add some functionality. Ran into some binary assumptions and found workarounds. Got everything implemented and close to start testing things. Not a lot of code, but a lot of places that needed careful attention to detail. Started looking at the final code needed for initializing things. Found that all the code I wrote would not be needed if I just initialize some things differently. Realized I don't need all this code. The code is literally redundant.
git checkout <changed files>
Okay, now I understand the code better. I am ahead because I am not maintaining code I don't need. Half a day of reading the code helps me understand everything that is there.
Life is good. 😀 -

It took me a month's time to adjust to working in co-working space last year and it took around similar this to adjust to working from home this year. Both working environments have there own pros and cons but somehow we all find a way to continue working.
Don't know what working environment lies ahead of me once this lockdown get's over but I hope I adjust again in similar manner there too :D -
So I have being practicing algorithms again and my biggest issue I realise is understanding the question. Once I have that down, I can draw up a game plan and then go ahead with the implementation then optimise once I have a working solution. However, it's like sometimes the problems are written by children that are way too smart and I just don't get it. 🤯1

A second questionable alternative is pretending to be coding when yoi're not. Put an old program listing on the corner of your desk. Then go right ahead and develop your requirements and architecture without your boss' approval
