Got this from a recruiter:
We are looking for a **Senior Android Developer/Lead** at Philadelphia PA
Hiring Mode: Contract
Must have skills:
· 10-12 years mobile experience in developing Android applications
· Solid understanding of Android SDK on frameworks such as: UIKit, CoreData, CoreFoundation, Network Programming, etc.
· Good Knowledge on REST Ful API and JSON Parsing
· Good knowledge on multi-threaded environment and grand central dispatch
· Advanced object-oriented programming and knowledge of design patterns
· Ability to write clean, well-documented, object-oriented code
· Ability to work independently
· Experience with Agile Driven Development
· Up to date with the latest mobile technology and development trends
· Passion for software development- embracing every challenge with a drive to solve it
· Engaging communication skills
My response:
I am terribly sorry but I am completely not interested in working for anyone who might think that this is a job description for an Android engineer.
1. Android was released in September 2008 so finding anyone with 10 years experience now would have to be a Google engineer.
2. UIKit, CoreData, CoreFoundation are all iOS frameworks
3. Grand Central Dispatch is an iOS mechanism for multithreading and is not in Android
4. There are JSON parsing frameworks, no one does that by hand anymore

So my cousin approaches me with his Android phone and, with a worried tone, says:
- "But... is it true that if you enable the developer mode you can get arrested?"
- "What? No. Why?"
- "Because this screen says so. I once enabled them out of curiosity but then I couldn't disable it so I had to reset the phone."
Turns out that, in Italian, "arrest" is a synonym of "halt". The message says "these settings can cause the _arrest_ or malfunctioning of the device"
Couldn't stop laughing 😂18 -
I was an Android developer in a company, I was told to generate a release APK file to test it locally.
So, to sign the apk, I created a keystore file and the password is my name. they decided to publish the file on Play Store.
I left the company years ago, and still on every update they have to put my name as a password.5 -
- We need an android app. Can you do this?
+ Never done that, but I can try.
- Do you even know Java?
+ Not really, but I'll learn fast!
- Any OOP experience?
+ Well...I know CPP.
- 😐
- Will you give me a prototype tonight?
+ Don't know. How about tomorrow?
- Ok.
...
+ *makes a prototype in couple of hours, becomes a Java developer*
Just like that.8 -
So today , a company phoned me for a job I applied in Jobstreet. So the conversation goes like this.
Com " Do you have any experience in Android studio? "
Me : " Yes . I develop android application, it is compulsory to know actually."
Com :" ok... Do you have experience android SDK?"
Me : " I believe you are referring to the Android studio, yes."
Com :" do you have experience in Android programming"?
Me :" Yes. I do android application for both native and hybrid. As for hybrid, I use flutter."
Com :" Ok...but I was asking about android."
Me :*explaining what I just said *
Com: " you no understand! We need android programmer! Not native or flutter programmer!"
Me *explaining what native and hybrid is (in simple terms)
Com : " it is ok then.. our company prefer those who can develop android app , not native programmer or anything flutter programmer.
"
(Btw , I transcript how exactly that person talk to me)
My question to this person is.... WHAT THE F*** IS THIS? WANT AN ANDROID DEVELOPER BUT NOT NATIVE OR "FLUTTER"? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT EVEN MEAN ? IF ANDROID IS NOT WRITTEN IN NATIVE OR HYBRID THEN WHAT YOU EXPECT ME TO USE THEN? USING ASSEMBLY X64?14 -
!rant
I had to stop developing hybrid android applications with Ionic and start developing native.. I was given 1 week to present an app or they would hire an external developer.. I knew nothing about Java or Android development and in 4 days I already have a working, hardware scanner integrated, API calling, camera picture taking,.. Application! My brain hurts and I'm feeling like a zombie, but hey.. I'm proud of myself! :D15 -

I don't understand how people spend years learning how to become a developer. All I had to do was tap the build number on my android 7 times.
-
Yep, you need to know c++, php, HTML, CMS, and </> to become an Android developer.
Not java.
That's not important.
I love sponsored content. Always accurate.10 -
* Intern comes back to the same company after a year *

FUCK Android, whoever invented this piece of shit should be really proud of themselves... And yes, this rant comes from an iOS developer who's working on a project in react-native... Why the fuck everything should always work on iOS but the same thing is fragile as shit on Android? Why the fuck there's a thousand of different versions of every Android package and every single one breaks another? Why the fuck Android is so fragmented... If this piece of shit is the definition of "openness" then I'd really prefer the "closeness" of iOS... Totally reminds me of how much I hated IE6 back in the web development days73

At a mobile developer desk:

So normally it takes at least 4 years to become a developer by pursuing a CS or similar degree.
However, today I found out you could just touch the screen 7 times on Android to do the same thing. Go figure...10 -
Meet 'SBI Online' app from Play Store, in their own words:
What they were supposed to do?
"Experience the new Retail Internet Banking of SBI"
What they do?
"SBI online app will redirect to SBI Retail Internet Banking (online SBI) site"
Why do they have app?
"No need to remember URL",
"Less memory space required on device"
App storage space?
F**king 2.6 MB, just to redirect users to their website, in third-party browser.2 -

Hello everyone, this is my rant.
I work in a start-up as an Android developer and we were looking for our first iOS developer.
After two months searching, some guy was finally hired last week.
My boss already told me he didn't have my programming level, but we needed him because he had experience as community manager and good Photoshop skills, and right now we need a profile like that in our company.
Today the new guy asked me what are setters and getters.
How fucked is my company? Is there hope for us?9 -
Hello! I am a hobbyist game Developer.
I recently made a game for Android and I would really appreciate it if you downloaded it! I am open to your critique at what's good and what's not! Anything that you think would make the game better?

2017 was a dream come true literally.Long story short, I quit my job of 6 years as a PE teacher, studied Android Development through Udacity's Nanodegree program, moved my wife and kids out of our house (we were renting), moved in with my in-laws, Trusted God, learned how to build Android apps, applied at numerous tech companies, got offered 2 jobs, got hired as an Android Developer in Tennessee in December making almost more than twice I did as a teacher. My first day of work is January 8th. What a year it's been!6

me: ok...I am interested

HR: ok thank you for your time. 🙂4 -
Designer: in an effort to create our brand identity we've come up with a design pattern to use across Android, iOS, and web.
Me: this design goes against material design principles which we agreed we'd use. Also it looks like a mashup of iOS and Windows 10
Designer: just because it looks like an iOS/Windows 10 mashup doesn't mean it was designed for those platforms; it was designed as our brand for all platforms. We feel very strongly about keeping it, specifically the pieces that make you feel uncomfortable as an Android developer
Me: 🙄😑😣😒7 -
Android Q is actually pretty cool, instabilities here and there and I can't seem to get TWRP to boot on it to get it rooted, but overall it looks pretty usable already, especially for a developer preview.. go go OnePlus 😁16

This is from my personal experience. I've been working on an Android app, I'm a web developer tho. I don't have much experience in java but just watching a decent YouTube tutorial and getting the source code to play with, helped me more than I had hoped for.3

I study and work as a tech support guy in a company and the head of Android development wanted to speak to me : want to help us with some changes in the app? Now I am a junior Android developer. Not even mad 🤔3
-
There was an android project that I got from my senior.
he told me that another developer already completed most the project and all I have to do is minor changes...
Well when i saw, i was amazed that the code he commented is more than the actual working code without any structure.
He copied most of code from internet.
If it's not working, put in comment else use it.
It took me a whole month to figure out what's going on.
And another 2 months to fix the issues.
Well in last my senior told me that the developer took 1 year to write this code
(to be honest any normal developer can complete that project in less than 3 month)2 -
In Android O RAM statistics got moved to developer settings.
So this means you are a Dev if you know what ram is??6 -

Worked as a student in a big company. Just doing data entry and checking product data. It was a nice part time job at the same time with computer science study. After a year I asked for something else and switched to the Android Team. I said I could do a little bit of Java and wrote for another half year Unit Tests. That was the point where I really learned coding and got experienced. Would never learned so much in my study because I was lazy. Now I can call me a Android Developer. Still love the company for giving me this opportunity.
-
The good part is with each update Android studio gets more and more powerful with more and more features.
The sad part work each update Android studio gets heavier and even the basic feature is a pain in the ass to work with
-One sad Android developer ;)2 -
Kotlin support on Android:
i never liked Java, not because of the language but for the usual bad design implementations and Android is one of those.
Then Kotlin arrived, it looked very promising but it's when i looked at Coroutines that it simply blew my mind:
you just have to write your code and the Kotlin's compliler "magic" will do most of the boring/complex stuff for you and it's even great performance wise!
I even refactored inter-process calls to simple sync functions with few like of code and for a non-android developer like me it's just love at first sight!3 -
Recently got out of the military now I work a full time job, have a wife and a 15 month old son, go to college full time online and try to learn Java and android development in my other time. I want to work as a developer so badly but I'm just not good enough yet. It's also super hard to know what level of knowledge you need to obtain a job because all entry level positions want you to have years of experience in 10 fucking languages and shit like what the fuck? No breaks, hungry to succeed.10
-
More like a sub company/department inside a company: Android.
I still use it as my main driver, but every time I try to get back into development with it(did it professionally for 2 years nearing on 3 and was a lead Android dev, mind you not necessarily by merit....) I end up hating everything about it.
The tooling is meh, the API is hideous and even with the addition of Kotlin, which I do find a nicer language over Java I still dislike it. The ammount of shit needed to make something as simple as store data, manage fragments, integrate with the NDK, make JSON API calls or even shake motions is just ludicrous and counter intuitive. I can see why people would hate Java based on Android, a language that I generally love and defend.
I firmly believe that people extend frameworks or tooling for 2 reasons only:
1 the stack is so awesome that you just want to create packages and libraries to extend the functionality of a powerful environment, like gems for Ruby, python packages, Node packages, php composer, nuget etc
2 the stack is so fucking hideous that people need to fix shit: the entire android square utility framework, butterknife, flutter, react native, codenameone, etc etc
The case with Android is the second. I have not met a professional Android developer that completely likes everything about Android, but will seldom find people that HATE other frameworks or environments.
Android it is for me. Still my daily driver and I love every Android phone I have ever owned. It just makes me feel lots of more compassion for fellow Android devs.4 -
So the devRant stickers are finally here all the way from USA. Thanks devRant for these. Absofuckinglutely loved them. 😍

Saying I am an Android developer is another way of letting people ask 'can you build something like WhatsApp?'
Well there is world beyond that! Grow up people. Just tired of listening this. Fuck off.2 -
Reason I am an Android Developer:
10% - I want to make apps to serve humanity
90% - Meh, just wanna write some cool Changelogs1 -
I decided to quit my job. I was supposedly hired as an Android developer, but during the past few months I found myself doing everything except Android development: SQL scritps, frontend web development, backend web development, RESTful API's, DBA, release engineering... There's nothig wrong about being versatile, it's actually fun, but I wasn't doing what I really wanted to do and, most importantly, the manager didn't appreciate the fact that I was doing things that I'm not supposed to do, and not only that, I was doing it just as good as some full time web devs who do nothing but web development in the company. I'm pissed off. They probably believe the next Android dev they hire will do all the shit I was doing, accepting the same pay. Fuck them.2
-
Nowadays I develop cross platform app, when I speak with an Android or iOS developer I feel like I'm summoning the satan.4
-
So this happened with me today.
Me: Will you be Gradle of my Android Studio?
Girl (Designer): I can't build you.
Despite the negative, my affection increased twice fold on her now. -
I got my first gig as an android developer a couple of months back.
Today, my changes got merged into candidate, soon to be released.
Although they are mostly bug fixes, I feel proud that code written by me will be rolled out to 400000 users. :')3 -
Had an interview for position of an Android developer. All the questions asked were from Web technologies.2

Solo Android app developer here. It's 4AM where I'm working. Been working alone on a project for the last 20 days. Looking to get some inspiration and discuss new ideas with other devs.
So hi!
What's up with you? What do you do?20 -
!rant && advice
I am an Android Developer, but about to start my final year. I got a mail from a company telling me saying...
"... and we are looking for problem solvers like you.
We Invite your CV and look forward to hearing back from you."
Stupid it may sound, but how do I reply to them? Do I also send a cover letter? If yes, what do I write? What do I mention in the email?
Thanks.1 -
I hate how the IOS developer of our team gets all the recognition for an app we made just because the manager has a bloody iPhone, even though I did the entire backend and Android app.1
-
smh.
Why hire a Native iOS Developer when you're going to let him develop an iOS app to look EXACTLY like its Android counterpart?
There's hybrid and cordova for that if you want your apps to look and feel exactly the same.
Can't we all just agree to appreciate the distinct differences in UI for both platforms? Navigation especially? Copy context not UI.undefined android copy context not ui ios apple google human interface design material design hybrid -
Banks. Fuck 'em. Worst pay of any industry
Wanted : 6± years native Android experience, senior developer
Pay: $45-48 / hour
I made $50/hour on 2013 and my rates have gone up linearly since.
This earns a big ass WTF from me for BBVA Compass bank3 -
When a gamer is also a developer:
Idiot: What kind of game is that? I only has a crap load of words!
Me: Yeah, it's called Android Studio2 -
How you know your a developer: you use 'goto' instead of 'go to'...
Apparently I've been spelling it wrong and my Android keyboard no longer corrects it...7 -
Went to bed last night with my code not working. Woke up, ran the app and IT WORKED! I have no clue what I did last night it's all a blur, but apparently I fixed the problem in my sleep. #SleepCoder2

My boss wants me to make a web application in .NET, it's like asking a Android developer to build the app for iOS as well.
Note: Im a PHP developer4 -
So client wants an android app that implements some legacy Epson printer SDK, works on a chinese Windows device with an android Emulator on it, connects to local Webservice that had to be configurated and ran (local Network) , sends and tracks data, if Server down then handle it on the Client and reconnect as soon as Server up, running own TCP Server on Android device that listens for specific http requests, which make the android connect to an Epson printer to start printing. The stuff that is being printed? A png file that has to be converted to a Bitmap, a QR Code that has to be generated by the bugged base64 encrypted stuff coming via http in (webserver-> Android TCP server)
Dont forget the Software Design (MVP), documentation, research etc.. Im about to finish the app , its my 5th day on this Project, the 6th day was planned to be full testing. Client Calls me and ask me how far I am, I reply, he says ok. 30 minutes later he tells me he wont pay me next time that much because this work should take 3 days, or even 2. "A senior Android developer could do this in 2 days"... When i sent him my notices he called me a liar, his webdev has alot of experience and told him it should take 2-3 days...ffs2 -
I didn't posted something in a long time so...
TL;DR: FUCK YOU ANDROID STUDIO YOU FUCKING SHIT PIECE OF SOFTWARE
Thank you for your time.
I am running my own meme social network. For quite some time I wished I knew a Android developer, which could help me.
Because I know java I tried it myself, and Android studio is one of the worst programms I've ever seen.
My app crashed the whole time, just because my studio version was 1 behind. Updated studio, everything worked.
My layout wasn't showing correctly, reopened Studio, all layouts deleted.
For no good reason video views aren't resizing, so I need to use exoplayer.
One video on my platform nearly crashes the app when creating a thumbnail.
And so one....
I fucking hate Android studio...
(PS: if your a German, Swiss, Austrian you could check out my network and may become a beta tester of the app)15 -
I was a Project Manager, studied my a$$ off at 38 to become a mobile developer. Built production apps in Java, React Native. I've studied Kotlin and Flutter. Then my company almost went belly up and I had to scramble to find a job to support my family. Back to being a PM which I hate. Started with Swift because my son is old enough to play with Swift Playgrounds and thinking about making a break back into dev. Every post I see on Twitter is about Flutter, maybe RN, but not much Native iOS. Is it wrong that I'm loving it thus far? What's the future for Native iOS and Android developers?5
-
I feel like I am getting years older every day in this job..
Could someone help me find a mobile developer position (Android I prefer)..2 -
upwork job "Full Stack Developer with Laravel, PHP, Java Programming, Android, AWS expertise needed"... you guys forgot rocket scientist too6

I'm not here to underestimate the design of a government app on Android.
I hope the developer considered the UI itself as user-friendly and not the default button from android studio. he just simply copies the contents(text & images) from the government web page and paste it to its application.
He/she got paid well to make that app. well, although the information is correct for the users.
It's not much that users are even enthusiastic of the design. they simply read the guidelines inside the app and no more fancy animation.1 -
I should stop trying to be a developer and become a comedian, or perhaps a meme maker or something...
My rants are better than codes.
I mean, I got 100+ +1s on a rant and my code never runs!

Starting out as an Android Developer, at first I thought I'm not cut out for this but after finding this app I'm a little more confident in myself, Everybody needs to rant every once in a while! Glad I found this, everyone on here seems awesome!6

1. Learn frontend and backend development. Move out of "Just android developer" description
2. Move out of this shitty MNC and get a job in a good company
3. Blog more
4. Give talks
5. Get fit
6. Have a nice gf ( one can hope)
Can I achieve this much? I'll try my best for sure. -
As an Android developer, I'd like to learn iOS development. So about the device, is there any specific iPhone you recommend to begin with?
Thank you guys!9 -
!rant
I am a xamarin developer , would like to try "native" android dev.
What's the best IDE for android development? Should I give Kotlin a try ?6 -
I thought iPhone simulator was ONE THING that worked smoothly but NO, it is also a load of crap, hogging away the memory. Can’t develop ANYTHING without spoiling the mood because of this slow performance. It’s the same with android studio, Xcode, android emulators, and now simulator with vscode is doing the same thing. It’s 2020 you’d think a developer can write code smoothly on a huge MacBook Pro but no what a fucked up world, I’m hungry again, I have eaten up everything what to do I hate fruits !!7

Got this in my LinkedIn inbox today
"I see you are open to new job opportunity!
I am looking for Sr. Android Developer for a start-up company in San Francisco. They are rebuilding their Android SDK and looking for an Android Engineer like you.
Let me know if you are interested. I would be happy to have a quick chat with you and share more details."
Apparently they're developing a new way of Android development 🤔5 -
Been working on an Android app for a month and finally when it was time to publish I couldn't pay Developer registration fee for God knows what reason. :/
Keep getting
"An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later"
Feeling like shit :/3 -
i was looking for a Junior Android Developer job before this coronavirus pop out of nowhere. now i'm just stuck in the house and the chances of getting a Remote job as a Junior developer is very very thin 😐😐😐. And honestly i'm fed up of learning new skills5
-
While applying for an Android Developer job position, a recruiter called me and said: i had just received your CV and we are currently looking for Android developer but first you have to do a coding exam just press on the link and you will do the exam if you pass it we will make it up for an interview.
I was extremely satisfied until i saw the exam and it was full of hard alogirthm functions and data structure. In which i don't remember
Do you think after years of experience and projects such exams are still required?6 -
Dear developer guy who wrote this documentation node!
You're a developer yourself. Don't you know that inverse psychology is something you should avoid, because it will not work?
Thanks!
---
Okay for real, why shouldn't one parse Build.FINGERPRINT on Android? I was looking for a way to determine if the device is an emulator or not, and came across a solution using this, and read the documentation.3 -
Dear every app developer or web managers/designers that can read this.
Specificly, the ones who own a android app.
If you have an old android app that is still updated from time to time.
Please, take your time for just one minute.
AND REPLACE YOUR GOD DAMN OLD "Get it on google play" BADGE WITH THE NEW ONE, PLEASE! ITS NOT THAT HARD, WHY ARE YOU GUYS NEVER UPDATE TO NEW LOGOS?!
NOT JUST OLD APPS, EVEN SOME BEW STARTUPS ARE ACTUALLY USING THE OLD BADGE, WHY OH DEAR GOD WHY! WERE YOU LIVING UNDER ECLIPSE ROCK OR SOMETHING?!?1 -
Finally starting my first job as a Junior Android Developer!
Any tips -for a first timer- you want to share? 😊17 -
Hi everyone,
I'm a senior developer who wants to learn android development.
In your opinion, should I start with java or kotlin?38 -
That awkward moment when you're trying to find patterns to pin point trade ahead transactions on stock market and you realized that you were hired as Android developer.
-
More and more of my friends and family are finding out I'm an Android Developer. I'm so sick of hearing, "Hey, I have a great idea for an app...". They all think you can build a good mobile app from scratch in a few days.2
-
Last night I looked at an Android app.
Going to put it bluntly, I don't like java much.
But Android takes it to a whole new level.
I was talking to our (SlimRoms) framework dev about how the database transactions used to take 400ms, and it was cut down to 10ms by, changing to xml with some kind of a reflector (so xml would be saved in the background).
This is atrocious. As a web developer, I live in a world where you can do thousands of transactions in that time (albeit on faster hardware).
So how is it that all of the abstractions in Android add up to a single read/insertion in Android (and I'm talking about an app written by Google) takes 400ms?
Every time I go in that channel to talk to them, I find something screwed up. Gah.4 -

alright yall I need ideas, my wife just got fired along with everyone else and I'm going to have to go back to atleast part time freelance work. I need ideas for a developer site to broadcast my skills in android dev, and backend design. any suggestions will be appreciated.5 -
thought to start my day by working on my android app
ended up in watching tutorials and other stuff without evening opening android studio1 -
I started as Android Developer at a comapny today and was given a project with 30% already done but without any comments.
Can you guys suggest some forums or sites like stackoverflow that will help me.
Thanks -
What are some good android developer communities? Looking for somewhere to learn and ask questions that might not be code related, so can't be on stack overflow. What do you use? I use android for hobby projects only.5

My first job, I was expecting to be part of Android team but assigned to php team, a little disappointed but I guess as a developer its not something new 😛.
Excited first day first job2 -
I am a android developer. Mostly use java. I'm about to Develop an API for our next app. What should i use : php or python?9

So my boss wants me to develop a complete business management solution + mobile app. (It’s a startup project based company). She doesn’t want to use dubsado / asana / etc and wants me to take the best of all and custom build it for her.
Now I was a mobile app developer. Native iOS and android + recently learnt flutter. No backend or web or api skill.
But screw it, I wanted to learn laravel since a long time anyway so that I could be an independent developer.
So I have agreed and started it...
Bitten more than I can chew? Time will tell...what do you think?10 -
Is it me or is Software Development basically just Web Development?
I don't hate web development, in fact, I'm learning to become a web dev myself, but everywhere I look, everyone is a web developer.
When looking for a job all the requirements describe skills that are commonly associated with a web developer role despite the title saying Software Developer, all the developer communities I visit are filled with web developers and web dev topics, any topics pertaining to other fields of software development are close to non-existent, and when I go looking into resources for learning the Web Development courses and paths are much more well-supported than other fields.
At first, I was thinking of becoming an Android dev than maybe later learn some web dev but it looks like it would be a better idea to become a web developer since it would be much easier to ingratiate myself into the communities, find resources, communicate with other developers, find a job and I could even use the web dev skills to make mobile apps or apps outside of the web.
Should I stick with Web Dev or continue learning Android?3 -
When as JavaScript developer you need to do Java Android. And not the simple kind of tasks... I have 0 knowledge on the whole Android platform.. FML5
-
working as developer, actually android and java. Maybe not a big deal for you but it is, for me at least3
-
I loved you Xamarin.Forms I really did.
I defended you everywhere... Released 5 apps.
You FUCKING SUCK, no svg support (no none of the apis work), startup time is FUCKING insane, i could go on for hours......
Please any Android Developer out there is there any smooth transition to native? (Dont tell me about Js bullshit)
Help me fell the Native Power of Android.
Show me that apps don't need 20 seconds to start.7 -
I don't know if our QA is good enough. We were developing an app for both ios and android. I, an ios developer, told the QA guy that it will take long before uploading the app in the testflight (convert swift2 to swift3). After a week the app is now uploaded in the test flight and at the same time my partner, an android developer, uploaded the android version of the app in the play store beta. The QA guy started to raise bug issues about the android version. He wanted to fix the bugs immediately since our boss needed to upload it in the play store and appstore. The QA guy kept on complaining to my partner why the android version is buggy. Then he said something we, me and my partner, facepalm.
The QA guy said " You shouldn't convert the app to swift 3. The ios version is fine when converted why the android version is buggy. You need to revert it back to swift 2"
We sit there in silence, thinking if we pity the QA guy or laugh at him. -
I learned you can access developer options on Android by tapping your build number in the information settings, it gives you a little notification and reveals the secrets hidden from the average user. It's neat, I like it, you should see if it helps you in any way If you use Android.1
-
1- hope that Madagascar will be listed in Google Play when I try to register as a developer... 😭
2- upload many applications on Play Store 😍
3- working as an android developer with an average salary of $50,000 per year, not my actual shitty salary of $4,500 per year... 😒
4- Earn the Associate Android Developer Certification 😎 🙌3 -
I'm a self taught android/Java developer, I have never been to any boot camps. But I have worked with someone who been to one.
It is good for developers who already know the concept of programming and want to improve their skills. -
I'm an android developer. It's Friday evening. Just received a call from my honcho. He asked me to "hack" one website and get all the data from it.

Hello everyone.
I recently started android app development and i wanted to ask if you code entirely in java/kotlin or use xml+java/kotlin ?
I feel like to get better i should code entirely in java/kotlin. Am i wrong?3 -
Suggest a good back end language to a junior Android developer? I am thinking of learning a back end language ( I'm leaning towards RubyOnRails) for making API and some server side code . What would you guys suggest?12

Visited three book stores today.
Most books about software development on shelves were about :
android / css / c# / html / javascript / python - in alphabetic order.
Many motivational books ( almost half ) about how to become software developer just because “it’s a dream job” without any interesting content.
Less books about c/c++, networking.
Microsoft is still present with certification and windows and I didn’t saw any linux book.
So that’s the future - full of microsoft and android, javascript, html and script kiddies.
So pretty much the same as it is now.6 -
I’m a mobile developer, iOS is my main platform. When I work for local clients, from Serbia and region, in most cases I get design by Android standards, Android native features etc, and they usually don’t have understanding for changing to iOS native features and that is just ugly, less quality UX and frustrating. In my region Android is main platform. Does anyone have this kind of problems? Is this happening at your place? Please share your experience, it will help me a lot with mine fights with windmills!5

Today, i finally got my desired job as Android developer in a startup, earlier i was working as a php developer to pay my bills. I told my pm about me quitting this week and man he congrts me from getting out this shitty job.

Once, our boss asked my colleague (Android developer)
- Does Whatsapp need internet to send/receive messages!

So... Got upgraded to android 8.1
First impression... Dark theme ? (my dark background may help),
Everything got darker.
Second, folders are ugly as fuck (rounded, cutting half the icons) .
And third : fuck shit got fast.
If I tought my phone had no lag I was wrong... Now it starts apps instantly (plus the app launch time) it also got preetyer, looks like a hologram again the background.
Me approves.

At my first professional experience, just coming out of university and with no experience on Android. And the company put me doing a port of a VoIP lib of a Desktop application in C++, to be used as a mobile lib for Android app. At that time C++ wasn't supported by the Android ndk.
So my work was learning about android ndk, learn about jni, find out a solution for the non supported C++ in the ndk and learn about a proprietary lib for VoIP.
3 months later and with a lot of help I was able to put it to working (forget about performance). Still they told me my work wasn't good enough and I should have done a better job. For a noob developer that was hard to take. -
Story time: Once I sent our android developer a project that he was supposed to compile and install on a test device. On my machine everything worked perfectly but on his machine ADB would keep failing to install the apk. After an hour of scratching our heads we figured out what happened:
He had just received a new Chinese action camera from Amazon and plugged it into his PC to charge. Turns out it's running rooted Android and runs ADB Debug mode by default. So the build script would try to deploy our phone app to his action cam instead of our test device5 -
I thrive in the world of Android, intenting from one fragment to another.
Trying to escape the constraints on the layout of my life. -
I have been an android developer since long time, yet android migrate everything from Java to Kotlin
But am really worried to migrate everything from Java to Kotlin or begin this phase can you please help and tell me where is the best way to learn kotlin and get easily adapted3 -
To the android devs out there, how difficult would you say it is to obtain employment as an android developer VS other devs such as Java developer?5

To be sole developer.. what struggles did you face ?. Did you do something like hiting the head on walls when your code broken. ?5

I am one year experienced Android developer... just got an opportunity to work as a game developer in the same company(they will provide training)... I'm in dilemma whether to accept or no.. Is it safe to keep on changing fields😟6

Technically the first things I received money for were some android apps I published in the Google Play Store. They were icon packs that I created the icons for and mimicked someone's android project. After that created some of my own android apps. First paid career job, hired 2 years ago for java web developer at a health insurance company. I still like it, very appreciated here.

! Rant
For those who saw my rant the other day, here are my self taught android apps I made to get my foot in on Android Studio and Unity development. Critique, enjoy, provide feedback, ignore, or anything.

I was hired as an Android Developer. Now, being a Windows Phone/Mobile User but coming from Android this wasn't a problem.
Working with Android really convinced me what a piece of garbage that OS is. 50% of the code are fixes for stuff that SHOULD work and DO work on other OSes just not on Android. Often times I got in trouble for Apps crashing due to the Android Phone itself failing it's job which I of course can't fix. Sadly, I'm only trained in Android and Windows Development and no one wants a Windows App, so I'm still stuck with this underpayed job which makes me sad! -
When you are a beginner Android Developer and you are trying to translate one sentence in a Medium article on Android Development 😑1

As an emerging Android developer, I must say I HATE SQLITE AND CONTENT PROVIDERS!! So much code for such little functionality! Pro Android devs, does the process get any less tedious down the road with more experience?6

For those wanting split screen to work on android. Go to settings -> developer options -> "Force activities to be re-sizable"

Devs out there.. what is your celebration / how do you celebrate when your task / code works as you expected .9

Okay guys.. I am so lost! I want to be a developer but can't decide on a certain area. Like should I be a web developer or mobile app? If I am a web developer, should I concentrate on front end or back end.. If mobile app developer.. Should I focus on Android or iOS or cross platform?
I really can't decide what to do and what to learn? Feels like to learn everything and at the end not learning actually anything.
Any suggestions guys? I will be really grateful!7 -
I want to become Android developer as well as web developer (Full Stack more likely) , So enlightenment me Devs which API , Libraries, Frameworks i should master?10
-
Can people help me please,
Which one is better Android development (Android studio) or IOS development (Xcode)
I learned a bit of both(still a beginner) and here is what i think so far
Pros:
-Android is more wide spread and is more flexible also i have an Android device (testing)
-IOS development is really fun and intuitive and more money is paid to developers because not everyone has a mac in my country.
Con:
-Android studio is messy and java is really dull imo
-IOS requires a developer account which is really expensive in my country.
Any help is much appreciated even if it is a personal opinion10 -
Is the title "Web & Mobile Developer" on my profile misleading?
And the part in my summary which says I'm studying and currently not working ambiguous?
Cause I keep getting investment offers and job applications!
If you want I can hire you as an onClickListener function of a button in my Android app or as an activation function in my neural network model! -
First. I clarify my work schedule is from 7am to 4pm. I have a personal emergency so I must leave on time today.
Now my story: Today (finally) at noon they decide to publish the iOS and Android applications. The thing with the Android application is the other Developer is with a last minute improvement (since Monday) and is not over.
It's 2:45, the iOS app has already been sent for review, but Android is not. So when the Architect says that he already talked to the client and told him that everything is ready today, I asked the Developer if Android is already? and his response was "Almost I will finist at 3pm or 3:30".
(Hmmm) I'm worried about time so I say Ok, then Android will be published tomorrow! God he needs to finish the development, and I'm going to take new screenshot, do the merge with the development branch and everything that's need for a production release. So, the Project Manager says "Hell no! It will release today!" My answer: I have to leave at 4 and there is a lot of haste to do something so delicate.
I'm still waiting for an answer in slack from her.
Then the architect very "professionally" tells the other Developer to do it himself. It's almost 6pm and they still have not done anything -
Hi, I need some advice about android app development. I am a front end web developer and I want to get into android development. I have created a simple restaurant app using phonegap and knockoutjs but I didn't like the performance. Can you recommend how should I get into android development? Nativescript and ionic also lack performance as far as I have researched. Any help is appreciated.11

Hello. (Android) dev here contemplating about the future of my profession.
I am looking for a specialization or a field in my profession where i can be free of dependencies from GAFAM (The big five)
Basically software development is me only using dependencies and stuff they and 3rdparty people have created and then it works or it doesnt. Or if you dont keep it up2date it wont work because deprecation and breaking changes. I was web developer before and changed to android because of all the libs and frameworks one needed to wield for proper development. And now android has mostly become the same. Vanilla android is easy, but u start using google apis or 3rdparty services u quickly realize how far u get away from your actual usecase. Usermanagement, oauth, 2fa, userdatamanagement, crossplattform, offline, syncing etc.
I am pretty sure the topic came up before (dev fatigue, dependency fatigue) and most of you know what i mean but i might be the recent casualty here.2 -
Today I read a blog about React Native, and I was amazed to see that Facebook, Instagram, Airbnb uses this.
Is it already a thing now, thinking of giving it a try
There is so much confusion out there for a mobile developer what platform to choose, btw m developing native android apps from past 3 years.
What are your thoughts on it?6 -
Is it just me or does the Google Play developer console gets worse and worse with every change they make. Right now its bullshit they add one nice Feature but then fuck up multiple other things at once
-
"Do you consider to further study? I believe that you will have future if you have PhD, as it is our company policy that every candidate must have for this position.". (I was applying for full stack android developer with 6years experience)

Android Crash is Fucking Bullshit Ever on this Earth Planet.
I really Hate these Number of Versions and Bullshit Incompatibility between each one.
It is Just a Shit Developed on Java.
The Crash Really Fucks the eyes of Developer.
And Fucking Bullshit Errors are not Even visible, Sometimes the shit goes so worst that it does'nt even give the Line Number where error Exists.
Worst OS Developed for Mobile on This Planet.
Anyone getting into these development i suggest IONIC is Best to start instead of Coding Native Bullshit Android.
If anyone knows how to see the realtime errors besides Logcat and Firebase Error please let me know.11 -
!rant. !Stack overflow either because I'm seeking an opinion.
I am an Android developer and I have an i7 5th gen 8GB ram HP machine which is has been very capable for both heavy gaming and Android development. Now kill me for it if you may, but I have been using AS on WINDOWS 10, and I honestly never had any issues.
But should I dual boot my machine with a Linux distro? (most probably Ubuntu).
I don't use the emulator, I test it directly on my device.11 -
I had ".NET Developer" position. In reality, I was doing php, Android, unity, c on arduino, some desktop .NET and web too. Oh, I had to work with nodejs too. I was getting paid 6 times less than now...

What do you guys think about Java Spring STOMP? A Socket Based Backend.. Any experiences using that backend with Android? As a Java developer (mainly Android) I would Prefer continue writing backends in Java, I hate Javascript

I was talking with a few people from college recently and we all had a good laugh at the fact, That a lot of job postings for mobile developers state that they are looking for an senior/intermediate android developer that has anywhere from 10 -15 years experience.
I even had an interview and in it they stated that they are heart set on finding someone with 12+ years of experience.
but Android was only release 9 years ago... SO HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO HAVE 10+ YEARS EXPERIENCE -
Do you know a free android app for intermediate to advanced web developer?
Like Enki or Sololearn.1 -
if i am a native android-only developer and not a hybrid app developer for both android and ios, is it possible for my app(s) to generate enough money? by enough i mean a lot. A lot of money

First year as a professional developer, and this Thanksgiving break is making it hard to get back into the code base here at work. Am I the only one?2
-
I really don't get how every, single, mobile developer, position practically requires you to be a top developer on the Google PlayStore. Because if you're not you're "too junior".
It's like none of these companies understand that just because I don't already know your tech in and out and don't have 1mill+ downloads on my apps doesn't mean I can't rise to the challenge.
Been on the hunt for 2 years now, and have been put through the interview loop more than I can count with me never getting past the first round interview.4 -
I'm building an Android App and need to implement multi option selection using images. Tried google searching "android libraries for multi-option selection using images as option items just like Medium.com" but i keep getting links for image picker libraries instead.
Have you ever come across any? cus i'm not ready to implement that from scratch. Thankee2 -

X company offered 3.8 LPA in INR which has good work environment, culture and team. Current company has no environment and only team of 2 (mostly 1) is offering 6 now. Help me please what shall I do?
P.S : For Android developer position4 -
For the little experience I had with developing a simple Android app (that may or may not see the light of day), I find that of you want to wing it on the go on your first app ever you're gonna have a bad time.
Any android-related doc will make you have even more questions. it's like they're teasing you with a piece of candy and then you have to bow to the gods of googling and stackoverflow.
I refer to the ArcGIS, facebook (sign-in and requests), and even the android developer page does not answer everything a beginner needs to know.
Is it just me because I'm a n00b? Or did anyone else have the same experience? Will I ever get to the day where I can code an Android app without struggle? -
Worked as a swift ios developer for 2years now, boycotted java (android) and objective-c alltogether.
Have to do both plus javascript because my cto is marvelled by the promises of react-native...
The damn guy doesn’t have to implement a single line of code ! I do !
As if having to dev on xcode 9 wasn’t bad enough already 👏👏 -

Would you suggest MacBook Air Core i5 8th gen model for a hardcore Android Developer?
Current usage on regular basis -
- Android Studio
- 2 Android VM (MeMu, Genymotion etc)
- node.js MongoDB, Redis for server
- VS Code, Chrome, Mongodb compass
My old dell worked pretty well so far it has a core i3 with 8 gigs of RAM and 256GB SSD but processing always seemed slow but managed some how.
Suggest me if MacBook would make better choice than other windows laptop which are much more high end than MacBook on same price?11 -

One very important thing.
Just thought about getting a supporter today. Clicked the button on my Android, and then stopped back.
As app developer I know, there is a 30-40% fee according to the platform for selling this.
Then I tried on the webpage, my thought behind was, your getting the full money. No possiblity there.
Is that because of tax reasons? I would be glad to support you.10 -

With xCode you feel like I'm back in the 00s again... But in the MacStore it is advertised as "The 1 one developer tool on Mac".6 -
This is a legit rant.
What would you ask in a written/online test if you are hiring a mobile app developer, specifically android?
I'll tell you guys what I was asked after I get 10 comments sharing the community's views, so that I don't make a fool of myself.5 -
[Career Advice]
Hi folks! I'm in a bit of a career dilemma for which I sincerely need your help.
TL;DR
How do I go from being a React Native Developer to an Android developer, considering I have 2x more experience with React Native than Android, with React Native being the more recent one ?
More details -
I started as an Android developer in 2015, using Java as my primary language. Up until the end of 2017 I kept working as an Android developer, adding different native mobile tech skills to my skillset.
At the end of 2017, my employer asked me if I could also learn React Native as he had many big projects that required a more hybrid stack. I had always been eager to learn new things (perks of being a programmer I guess), so I said yes and started working on React Native in 15-20 days.
From that point onwards, I kept doing more and more projects using React Native (in my day job) and over the years, I became more of a React Native Developer than an Android one. At this point in my career, I have about 4.5 years of React Native experience and 2.5 years of Android.
However, now I am at a point where I want to make a switch (for better pay and more exciting projects) but when I looked at the job postings for React Native this morning, they were all for startups with great pay but kinda average products, whereas the Android job listings were for companies like Uber, Reddit, etc. (basically great companies with good projects and great pay).
I really want to go back from being a React Native Developer to an Android developer full time but I don't know how. I've personally seen so many people switch jobs from one field (say React Native) to another (Backend development) - and when I asked them about how they did it, they said it didn't really matter to their companies what specific tech stack they'd worked with, which is kinda hard to believe because every job listing I've seen companies list every single technology very very specifically.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading!2 -
That feeling you get when you apply for a new job and they respond in less then a day saying that they're intrested and need you to send in some of your best projects 😎.
Its been more than a week now,and Ive lost all hope. This was going to be my first job as a web/android developer5 -

Freelancing as Android developer for a year now. Before that I was programming for myself in C, Java and Python for 2 years. Thought about getting a parttime job as android dev in a company for a stable income stream, I never worked in a company before. What does a Company see as Senior and what as Junior? Where do I belong to? I got pretty good references and reviews, made this year 20+ Projects, but some extra income and extra experience wouldnt be bad2

Advice needed.
Tell me the difference.
I know the technical difference between Native Android Development using Java and developing for android using cross platform frameworks like Cordova, Ionic, etc.
I am quite comfortable with Java, and am also not a web developer. Should I stick to learn android java more in depth or should I start learning frameworks like phonegap and ionic.

Anyone ever heard of OpenSCAD? If you have, there's a clone called Scorch CAD on Android - I both love and hate the thing. Okay, it's awesome to be able to write 3D programs on my phone, but mother of god, why is it closed source?! I mean, surely that's a GPL violation. I'm contacting the developer. He makes no money off it anyway - why is it proprietary?! Urgh.

I'm fascinated about story games like: Sentece, Who's the killer, I'm innocent etc.
I have a question, how can I build a game like this? How is this game created?
I'm an android developer and I work in Android Studio, is there any solutions to build this kind of games in Android Studio.
If is this possible, how?
If is not what should I use, unity or?5 -
I wanted to make an android application to manage contacts. I asked a developer to estimate this 5 screens and he said 3 months and ₹1.2 Lakh ...... really!!3

I'm no iOS developer, so sorry if this is a stupid question. I was told a particular app I'm looking to make an Android version for was built in objective-C and uses Ruby and AWS for the backend. so presumably I'd need to plug into AWS for my app,im just not sure how Ruby fits in...2

Has anyone around here installed the Developer Preview of Android P on their Pixel (any model)?
I'm trying to figure out which models would have access to the android.net.wifi.rtt APIs.
If one of you Pixel with Android P owners could send me the result of `context.packageManager.hasSystemFeature(PackageManager.FEATURE_WIFI_RTT)`, that would be a ton of help to me :)
PS: to run this, you'd probably need to install the Android P Preview SDK platform, there's a tutorial to do just there: https://developer.android.com/previ...1 -

Plz help me to choose between two offers.
First one is a services provider firm where I would get to work alone on projects for clients. The con is their is no Senior Android Developer's in the firm
Second one is a startup where I will be working with a team on their product.
Points to be noted :
1) I am a fresher
