It was the time of the 90s when one created HTML with frames. During an HTML exam we had 1 hour to create a website with 3 frames. Top, left, main. Some aligned random images and some formatted text. Kind of boring, I know. So I finished early and handed in my diskette with my homepage. To make it easy for him I added my name and class to the title.
When we got our grades I was in for a surprise since I had expected a good grade. I asked him why I didn't get a good grade. He kind of shouted at me that my task was perfectly done but I shouldn't have written my name in the title but name and address of this school. It is not a really dramatic thing but I always hated when teachers quietly assumed stuff and didn't tell us. And then handed out bad graded for totally unrelated stuff.3 -

I was programming in java, C# and similar languages for years now and I never knew how the buffer overflow exploits would work, then I started C and saw the fixed size char arrays. Looking further into Rust, the macros are quite sexy. My first reaction was "omg really"? But then I learned that macros in Rust are nothing like macros in C++.
Again, comparing with my favorite language Swift, it feels like Rust macros are somewhat similar to result builders (formerly named function builders). Or they they have a similar purpose. Both evaluate to some type safe result at compile time and are a perfect tool to make DSLs.
But Rust’s macros can do even more than that. It’s truly amazing.2 -

So many open tickets and they keep becoming more and more. In the end they will never be worked on, as there's always smth more important, although they are reprioritized on fixed schedules. They will eventually be discarded because they were forgotten and the ticket was already done, just by a ticket with similar naming or similar intent.

Scenario : We are the offshore team. Asked to add a feature similar to other product. I added the feature in product, created necessary database to store the data. Later Manager started barking how my code isnt similar to the one he asked for me to do. I explained to him, my way is better for, database is optimized and is simpler. Later had to redo his way.
Question : How often do you come to situation like this? How would you have handled it? 🤔

It took me a month's time to adjust to working in co-working space last year and it took around similar this to adjust to working from home this year. Both working environments have there own pros and cons but somehow we all find a way to continue working.
Don't know what working environment lies ahead of me once this lockdown get's over but I hope I adjust again in similar manner there too :D -
I was evaluating a b2b enterprise software solution today. Mediocre except for their real-time analytic dashboard. They used Idashboards.com to analyze feed and display. Tableau is similar. Impressive.

When you’re frustrated and think you need another developers help, exhaust all your resources before you ask. Google it, look for similar functionality in the app to mimic, ruminate for an hour.1

i have a question to the Linux folks,
some of you may probably know a program called Komorebi. It replaces the Desktop and makes it animated and stuff like that (similar to Wallpaper Engine for Windows)
are there alternative tools, that do a similar job?
The Program seems to cause problems on my system, and the github page is dead for 3 years. Looks like the devs abandoned it, which is a shame.8 -

We were learning how to code circles to light up in sequence. As it's similar to how code works for Arduino. Cool. Go back to c# in Unity and teach what the code does not just copy.

Last week, a story was discussed of moving code from one class to utilities class that 2 similar actives can use. I'm on 2-dev team (out of 4), and the lead dev was going out early for a convention. Originally he was gonna do it, until I realized 4 other stories depended on this one!
Today he came back, saw my work and got pissed. Said I changed too many things, unsure if the code will even work, that it wasn't "surgical" enough. Also complained that I extended both classes from the similar code class (which extends the first classes's original extended-by) instead of using an interface to a class where the similar code is... his title says lead dev, but he's only got age rank on me as far as I can tell. -
I can't recall what platform it was, but upon trying to change my password it would tell me that the new password was too similar to the previous one... :/1
