I think I found the smallest IDE,
It's lightweight, works with any filetype, can easily handle graphics as well30 -
This project manager, man....
> Sends email to a client "Dear Ms X, here's your password for the Jira board: [...] Please handle it with care and keep it secret."
> Email goes out to 5 people.6 -
Working alone is great. You won't have to deal with others shit coding and others won't have to handle your shit coding.
Code free, code alone!3 -
Biggest scaling challenge?
The imaginary scaling issues from clients.
Client : How do you cope with data that's a billion times bigger than our current data set? Can you handle that? How much longer will it take to access some data then?
I could then give a speech about optimizing internal data structures and access algorithms that work with O(log n) complexity, but that wouldn't help, non-tech people will not understand that.
And telling someone, the system will be outdated and hopefully been replaced when that amount of data is reached, would be misinterpreted as "Our system can not handle it".
So the usual answer is: "No problem, our algorithms are optimized so they can handle any amount of data"6 -
Reviewer: your pr has unit tests
Me: yes
Reviewer: well, we never had unit tests, this is kind of an issue, not sure how to handle this right now
return "LOL"9 -
Me: So how do you handle conflict
Candidate: I use git kraken to highlight my conflicts and walk through them one by one
Probably the most developer answer i've ever heard hahaha5 -
*1 week into dream job*
Me: I need to communicate this variable to a script running in another thread, how do you normally handle that?
My Lead: oh, just add it as a global variable
Me: oh no...3 -
I hate myself. Really.
Last week I wrote a function to handle file uploads and at some point I left this very useful comment.
Do I know what to fix? Absolutely fucking nope.
I want to punch me from last week in the face9 -
That moment when your game appears on some Formula 1 Hungarian website and your server's network transfer is gone from 10 GB left to 2 GB left in just 2 days... But still - I'm proud of myself

IE can go fuck itself.
Today, the reason the some JS broke is because it couldn't handle tabs. Works fine in any other browser.
Replace all tabs with spaces and bam, everything works again.
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡7 -
I saw someone handle redirect on every anchor link on server side. Yes, they handle onclick on serverside and then decide where to redirect. No they don’t use href or any sort that’s stated on the HTML. And this guy is my senior.18

That first world problems moment when your desk can hardly handle handle the load of your monitor arm after you've put up a new monitor and you realize that three more monitors will be mounted soon.

Dual 27" Dell 4K HDR monitors, plus a Samsung 1080p and the retina display. My poor 2015 MacBook Pro with a Radeon R9 M370X 2GB can barely handle it. But there's just so much resolution that it's totally worth it!10

Guy 1: PHP can be plenty fast! Just put in APC, Memcached, and Varnish and you can handle just about any load.
Guy 2: So you're saying PHP is fast when it doesn't run.1 -
BRAIN_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
Could not execute "sleep()", as main thread was busy thinking about why a beautiful girl would just handle me her number.
Ok we did get on well but it was unexpected nevertheless
Thank you brain for wasting my day 👍11 -
This is bullshit.
We've got a project where we need to build a robot that can:
A. Follow a line.
B. Avoid obstacles
C. Go through a maze.
This, in itself, is fine. I can manage.
The problem is, the teacher that is supposed to support the course, is never where he's supposed to be.
Ie: he was supposed to be in the classroom to answer questions and give feedback yesterday from 09:00 to 13:00. The fucker didn't fuckin show up.
OK, so today, he's supposed to be here too, I've been sat in his classroom without him waiting for over an hour...
Also, no way I can do the maze part without knowing what defines a fucking blocked path, is it going to be a physical object or is the line going to be a different cor if you're not allowed to pass there?
I'm getting tired of this bs.9 -
Me: Hans, Get ze Flammenwerfer!!!
Hans: Why?
Me: They use long instead of big decimal!
Hans: How do they handle the floating values then?
Me: Before sending the request they multiply by 100 and on receiving they divide by 1003 -
Reddit: You share an insightful view, the weebs can't handle the cognitive dissonance and downvote you en masse. Mods are inexperienced, power tripping 12 year olds that are unable to self-reflect. It's cancer.

I signed up to devRant with the same handle I use everywhere (firstName+lastName).toLowerCase() and now I feel like I can't really rant here, cause you never know who might read it...16

This is what happens when you make style more important than function.
Pop quiz: when you lift the handle, what temperature water do you expect to come out? (This isn’t a trick question; assume you have an awesome water heater with instant warm-up time)
“Hot,” you might say, because the “H” is pointed towards you and aligned with the faucet.
“Cold,” you might say, because the handle is turned in the direction of the “C”.
There wouldn’t be any ambiguity if the H/C markings were on an immobile part of the fixture so that the relative position of the handle made the answer obvious.
(If you instinctively answered “cold” then congrats this is the perfect faucet for you.)14 -
I hate when shit that is irrelevant and has 0 value makes it to news sites.
For example, TechCrunch today: Former FBI Director James Come changes Twitter handle". Ok? I give literally 0 fucks because guess what: HIM CHANGING HIS FUCKING TWITTER HANDLE DOESN'T MEAN SHIT. THIS ISN'T FUCKING NEWS. IT'S FUCKING GOSSIP.1 -
2 things I can not understand.

Today I found an error in how we handle credit on invoices in our software.
This is the first time my boss has ever made a legit pull request for me to review of his.
Damn I feel proud!1 -
At an expensive Apache Spark training class. For hands on portion you use their system. When everyone logged on, their system couldn't handle the load. First they blamed the hotel wifi (even though every other site was running perfectly) and then they blamed AWS. It's clearly an issue with their system. It's ridiculous to not be honest with a room full of developers who know what's up.4
-
Not sure how other developers handle this but I just had a break down and do not want to see another piece of code for at least a week :/17

How do you handle non dev life? Is there anything left in a day?
I usually work monday-friday on avg 9h/day and have no idea how to manage not being fucked up at the end of the week. :\ I am trying to get back climbing, but usually I am just soooooo tiiiiireeeeeed after work.. I wanna sleep but when I close my eyes I see the code.. at least one core still left working..19 -

Working as a software engineer but: co-workers randomly walk into my office to ask me <<insert random IT problem (i.e. mouse not working etc.)>> while I'm deeply focused programming. Trying to close my office door results in co-workers backbiting...
Why can't they just go to the IT administrator who's work it is to handle their fucking problems?3 -

Is this really nitpicky shit? I feel like I have to babysit it through the entire process.11 -
Fuck you apple, and fuck your god damn shitty documentation.
Working with NFC enabled passes, their documentation says "payload max is 64 bytes"
What they ACTUALLY fucking mean is 64 ascii characters.
Also, the way they handle date time formats is fucked. They say they support W3C formats (iso) but what they actually mean is, they support a half assed version of a subset of it.
I told their chief engineer over a phone call and his response;
"I agree, our documentation is lacking"... HOW ABOUT YOU FUCKING UPDATE IT!
Also, how they handle json is just bad.7 -
Any devs hitting the gym here? I started yesterday and when I came back home, I I was so tired that I couldn't write a single line of code. I don't know how I will handle both.15

I have a project idea:
Web app that will automatically generate random like-a-facebook project ideas that will handle the buisness side and automatically post that offer on multiple forums, linkedin and send email with it. All using AI, Nural Networks, Big Data and VR.
Seriously, once fucking more some african or indian guy messages me to work for his awesome "its like a facebook but different" idea where he needs "just backend, frontend and mobile apps" and that he will just "handle the rest" and that "have no money now but after I sign a NDA he will give me some shares", I am gonna find him and shit on his head. Monday did not even ended yet and I already read 9 "offers" like this on my mail and facebook, only one guy white, rest indians or africans.
Why are then people suprised that we consider black and indian devs as a fucking joke 90% of the time. I have a indian dev friend and he could not find a dev job for 2 months, because everyone would rather work with less skilled asian / white guy than indian / black guy. This is not about racism, but about those retards that are acting like idiots. Hope I did not offend anyone (unless you do shit like this, then, please just smash your keyboard over your head).
Words like AI and neural networks are used just to lure the investors to our gofundme campain and steal their money after 2 years of silence.1 -
Taking college summer courses for the first time ever. I hope I can handle the load; at least they don't overlap.2

Domain Drive Design question:
I am working on a simple case to teach how to apply DDD, my case is as follows:
Simple forum with Author, Moderator and Users.
I am using Dotnet core for this. I am not sure how and where I should implement authorization:
1. Author can edit his posts only
2. Moderator edits any post
In dotnet core, we handle roles, policies in the api layer, and its per endpoint, I have an identity layer which handles accounts, registering roles and policies in database.
But I'm not sure if I should or how to handle authorization based on permissions in application layer.26 -

Is it okay, to wrap posix-commands in your program for stuff like remove, mkdir and copy, if the language doesn't provide this functionality to accomplish these, without having to implement them yourself and handle half a million edge-cases.23
-
How do you test unreachable code or part that is considered an edge case?
For example I catch exceptions in case IO failed and data was not written on database, but that only happens if hardware failure, or no disk space left, how do I mimic that?
I also have unreachable code for example, in one layer I fetch data (lets call it function x) and always return success result unless item not found I throw KeyNotFound exception. But in the calling function I handle the case of Status == Failed
Just in-case in the future I change function x and start returning failed status, so my logic already written but never reachable12 -
I got an email from an owner that was a bit strange. It was a forward of an email he sent to someone else. At the top of the body he had written:

Now, I just don't know how without destroying myself.
This is one of these important things one should to learn.1 -
Boss calls a team leads meeting which is just me and the other guy. Rest are product or project managers.
Turns out they concerns over how our last few sprints are always left unfinished as the work in it doesn't get passed QA.
Tried to tell him how can devs work on something that failed QA on the last day of the sprint.
We have one QA person who tests 20 something devs work. We are massively under resourced and yet they want us to do everything and always end up making promises to clients that we can't keep coz our sprint doesn't have capacity.
Yet they are hiring more product managers instead of getting some more QA help.
Sick & tired of this shit. -

I work at a small company (4 devs, CTO, a senior, me: mid level, and a new junior dev). Junior and I handle the client projects and the Senior and CTO handle the overall platform and server deployments and such. Our senior dev just gave his 2 weeks notice. I was told they are not replacing him and now ALL of his tasks have been pushed onto me on top of all my already full plate. My issue is, although I am excited to learn about the upper management and deployment stuff, they (CTO and CEO) just dumped all these tasks onto me without even asking if I wanted the added responsibility and also told me there is no monetary bonus for taking it all on. Am I right in being a little mad that I was not even asked if I wanted it and it was just assumed I would handle it all without any bonus or monetary promotion?5

How do you handle your tasks? Like do you use Todo list app?
How do your handle your notes and research and snippets?
---
I used to use Standard Notes and then Simple Notes and then now using Joplin to save notes and important information.
I am testing out Everdo for my daily Todo list app. I have tried lots of Todo apps but none of them satisfied me (or maybe I'm just not good at doing tasks).10 -

Come on, how hard can it be?
On every fucking TLV data structure I get to handle, the hobo who defined the structure obviously stopped reading the TLV specification after the second sentence.
Fucked up tags, misuse of length encoding, and as a result no real TLV parser can handle that crap. Workarounds and manual parsing all over the place for *every* *single* interface.
Get your shit together, and if you don't want to handle the complex parts, then at least make the simple types right. -
Sooo, while having dinner I was watching this video which talked about automation and how it's inevitable that a lot of manual labor will be replaced by cheaper ai workforce, and how we are not prepared to handle it. Your thoughts on how something like this might affect our software industry?
