Dev1: I started work at a new company.
Dev2: Cool, how is it?
Dev1: Well its ok... but they are a bit weird.
Dev2: How weird.
Dev1: Very weird, they round my pay to 1000 insted of 1024.
Dev2: Yeah weird.6 -
Started working in a company as an intern, they want me to do everything whether I know how to or not.12

"Engineers don't memorize documentation. They know how to use it."
Programming felt insurmountable to me before I started with it. This phrase blew my mind and changed my approach entirely.3 -
Back in the days when I started to learn c I had an assignment to print all the prime numbers between 1 to 100 but didn't know how (with if/for/while)
So I searched Google for "prime numbers from 1 to 100" and used printf to print them on the screen
I got an A+7 -
Hello. I joined devRant today. I am from Japan and my English is not very good. I like the idea of devRant and decided to be part of it.
I like the Stories and Collabs areas. Can't wait to get started.
Please give me tips on how to best use this platform. Is there anyone from Tokyo here?45 -
Started using longer passphrases for logins, colleague starts to tell people I'm doing bad things because"no one needs a password that long"
I get reprimanded by my boss
How the hell does this even happen smh13 -
Funny how the number of screws I end up with after assembling my computer never matches the number I started with.4

So guys i really need your help. My girlfriend started getting phone calls at odd hours, so I got suspicious and started tracking her phone. Then I found out that she has been going to this guys house at wears hours, then once when I was tracking her my computer froze, so what could it be? How do I fix my computer14
-
My girlfriend said when she first started doing tech recruiting she asked a candidate "How many years of experience do you have in C.... pound sign...?"
I would absolutely die if I had a question like that haha7 -
I was talking in class. Teacher saw me. She asked me to explain the topic she was going to explain. It was Network Security. I started explaining how we can prevent tracking of our online activities by using VPN and all.
Teacher (to class): Do you all know about VPN?
Whole Class: No.
Teacher (to me): They don't know about VPN. Now, how will you explain?
Me: I won't.

Friend rents a nearly unused dedicated server and I have multiple hardly used servers (as in resource intensiveness).
Started a few monero miners on those servers, let's see how this goes 😅18 -

Jesus, this took so much work...
My university has started Swift lectures but my god their Mac minis are really crappy so I decided I would install Mac on my PC.
How can an operating system take so much fucking work to even boot!16 -
So my wife started learning coding and web development. I am quite impressed how fast someone can learn it (she started from scratch, with No knowledge before)13
-
I tried to learn Java by watching tutorial videos on YouTube. After falling sleep on chapter 3, the next day I started programming in JavaScript.
Don't ask how, don't ask why.
And yes, I thought that Java and JavaScript was the same... For about 5 minutes until finding StackOverflow.
Good times.2 -
People always asked me how I got started with Python, I always have to come up with a reason to hide the fact that I started using it because I like the name13
-
I started with Notepad++ (and continued like that for a while)
Then I tried jetbrains webstorm, I tried atom. I tried VS. They all have their cool stuff but I was never fully satisfied.
Now I tried brackets. I just opened a project I'm working on rn and started coding a little.
Half a hour passed and I still didn't notice that I had a light theme.
Yes. This is it. I'll stay with this editor. It just feels right. I just need to figure out how to use tabs not spaces...
(picture says just my opinion)31 -
Today I deactivated and uninstalled my facebook account, because I want to get less distracted.
I didn't realise how addicting the inane bullshit of other people is until I started feeling like I've lost a limb.
I am going to brave through this!!!!!! Fuck Social Media.16 -
when I was first started out, I was trying to test out a file delete and renaming program I made. it deleted itself. never even knew how it happened. it was effective in deleting though.4

So this is how I met my girl on github.
I wanted to built something like a media center, primary for music, but using YouTube as source. I started looking for a lib. Found a broken one. Opened an issue but got a comment: "Can't fix because, you get ... [read more]13 -
Ever since I started a hobby project with a commitment to make atleast one commit to it everyday, no matter what and no matter how small, coding has become a truly fun past time. And 3 months in, my project is beautifully taking shape1

I installed one of those alarm apps that doesn't stop until you solve some puzzle or simple equation..
I ended up by uninstalling it when the first time the alarm started..
The problem is, I don't remember how I did it.. just I woke up a little late and the app not found..
I guess I was really tired !11 -
Just for reference in the post. I'm 24 years old.
Guy: How long have you been programming?
Me: I started when I was about 10, so about 14 years
Guy: are you one of the anonymous?
Me: ...15 -
Only slightly tech related. So proud of my mom.
Many years ago I helped her create a Facebook account. As it happens with most older people, she started sharing false news that she saw on her network.
So I taught her how to verify. Reverse image search. To google it and if no real news site talked about it, it was fake.
Anyway, she listened and started learning.
Now she is telling people when they are posting something untrue and I even taught her how to report false news posts.1 -
So I started teaching my younger cousin how to program in python and he's enjoying it a lot so far :)4
-
I started to work in a new project for a house architect, basically a management system for his studio. Well, guess what? Twenty years ago he programmed some sort of software using BASIC, and of course that means he knows exactly how software works!
Worst kind of stakeholder, like going to the doctor and telling them how to diagnose, because you used a thermostat once.3 -
I was limited to how much time a day I could play video games, but I was told that if I made my own games I could play them as much as I wanted.
I took an HTML course on Codeacademy unaware that it had nothing to do with game dev and that's where it all started.2 -
It was our first computer. probably it was 2008. I was super stupid back then. One day I saw a text file in our desktop, which says, "Hey $username, how are you? Message me here I-forgot-his-email@yahoo.com"
No matter how much we delete the text file, it kept on recreating and keep on adding same texts with multiple lines. I was really annoyed!
Yahoo messenger was popular back then. So I messaged the person using Yahoo messenger and he replied. Our conversation went this way:
Me: (after explaining a bit about the text file) what is this?
Him: it is a virus
Me: how do I delete this?
Him: if I teach you how to delete it, the whole purpose of creating it would be in vain
Me: okay, how do I create something like this?
Him: just Google
That day I was swearing at him from the bottom of my heart, not through messenger, but from my mind, because he didn't teach me how he made that virus.
I was like, "I will show you ***** that even I can make a virus better than that". So, I started googling & started learning how to make these scripts. The more I learned, the more it blew my mind. I was creating simple stuffs like, opening/closing CD rom every 5 seconds. It was so fun back then. Cause, my friends had no clue why their CD roms kept opening every 5 seconds.
After a few days, I started to thank the virus creator from the bottom of my heart. Cause, if he taught me how to create THAT virus that day, I probably would've just learned THAT one thing and stopped. But because he didn't teach me that, to learn one thing, I got to learn more than that one thing, which I'm really thankful for.
And then the journey started. Learned Batch, VBscript, C, C++, Java and so on. And still learning new things everyday...4 -
How old were you when you started programming?
I'm curious about that... I want to introduce childs to programming but I'm not sure which age is the correct one to begin.51 -
Holy fuck. Didn't realise how slow Android studio was until I started using visual code with the command line tools. 😮6

My girlfriend's mom has breast cancer, which started spreading. My grandpa has leukemia and I need to finish my masterthesis this month... I'm sorry to bother you guys with it but I'm really not sure how to hold my shit together any longer...21

My company just got a new developer to work on a legacy PHP app.
My boss was boasting about how this guy has more years of professional experience than me ( I have 9 months of experience and he has been working for 4 years on PHP).
Today was one week since he started and I had him set up a REST API, I had to explain to him what json_encode does and how http requests work.6 -
Started writing an operating system several years ago. Taught me just about everything I need to know about computers.
Oh, and make NES games. That teaches you a lot about how we arrived to where we are today.1 -
I used to weigh 60kg (idk how many pounds) when I started Uni and 60kg when I graduated.
Went to 70kg within 9 months of starting a dev job but my desk is pretty cool :p6 -
A web developer has started working on my windows.
How should I communicate with it that I don't want a website outside my windows? Will this be considered a covid layoff if I just throw it off the said window? 🤔
P. S. I'm talking about a spider, icymi.12 -
I started attending this IoT class in some computer training school. During my first class, I was early because I had the raspberry pi class earlier in the day. A guy came up to me and started chatting to me, he was bragging about how he created some big projects, how he works in his dad's company which develops IoT products (he codes it). Later on in class he talked about how he hacked his school's server or something and changed his marks. Whenever he brags, he has a tendency to use a deeper voice (which is pretty annoying).
Anyways so I thought he is pretty good and maybe I can learn a thing or two from him. A few class later, I started having my doubts, why? Because he doesn't know how to debug code, he copies the lecturer's code and still copies it wrong, and he doesn't know what variables and constants are. He uses IE and doesn't know about GitHub.
Now he asks me or the guy in front for help in class. He makes the class more fun, it's funny listening to him brag. Love it.2 -
I'm old and dumb comparing how things are today with where I started from. Time to start over again.11
-
I have this guy who always post on his social media stories about how he is so good at programming and he has mastered “python” “R” and “JavaScript”. He just started programming early this year. February to be precise and thinks he is a badass programmer. Smh
How will I tell him codeacamy free certificates isn't knowing about programming and cramming syntax isn't programming also🤦🏽♂️13 -
When I started learning PHP. I used various warez sites to get PHP scripts to get familiar with how 'things' are built and it really helped me develop into a better dev.
Now I sell PHP scripts on envato and my very item's trending on a warez site somewhere.10 -
Oldie but goldie:
"I started using vim a while ago and haven't stopped ever since. Mainly because I don't know how to exit..."4 -
So I never had a proper education in IT. Started web development as a hobby, then some people started giving me money for it, and here I am, working as a fulltime web dev since 2001 and SEO expert since 2010.
Still, I sometimes wonder how much I really know compared to some fresh coder who just got out of university.
I know how to create great software from A to Z, but still I sometimes get the feeling that I am missing the fundamental basics.
Is that weird?3 -
PSA:
Just started using Firefox nightly. It has an add on called "super dark mode" that automatically converts ANY site you visit to a dark theme.

While interviewing someone for a DevOps position, he admits having only started on this subject a year ago. This is no big deal.
When asked how he keeps up-to-date, he answered "I haven't for the last ten months".
Well, that was not the answer that I expected...4 -
wows, crazy to think how i started using devrant in middle school, and now i’m going to be in college this fall6
-
This community is amazing. I started developing an app from scratch, with no knowledge of how to do it but this community has helped me so much. I have just started it, been a few days but devRant is what got me into coding in the first place. I was more of a hands-on electronics/mechanical engineering kinda guy but this has been amazing and I might just switch to computer science branch for my engineering. Thanks devRant and the community :)8

I started learning Node.js this morning. Wow, mind blown.
I can see how I could use this in an existing web development project.
What are the barriers to using Node.js instead of something else? Are there support/performance issues?24 -
I forgot how much i love godot, started a game yesterday and its already mostly functional.

How I feel after unnecessarily deleting my USB stick
My sister needed a "big USB stick" I deleted the contents of my 32gb stick and went to her pc, we started loading her photos on it, I see the 8gb stick and ask her what she needed my stupid stick for
And yes the other one was empty...11 -
Started learning python couple of days back.
My feelings right now
How the fuck I miss this language for so long time?11 -
I started using GitHub for my codes lately, so instead of diving into the code, I make sure to mess with GitHub to have it available online, then I admire the design of GitHub, then I drift to YouTube, listen to music and can not concentrate. Then I open Facebook and tell everyone how hard my life is 😂3

When i started to get into computers i didn't know a shit about Linux, i had the typical idea that is for hackers. Now i see how things that we use everyday like the phone uses it.

Any devs hitting the gym here? I started yesterday and when I came back home, I I was so tired that I couldn't write a single line of code. I don't know how I will handle both.15

How is anyone supposed to compete with those kinds of numbers?
I thought the industry was struggling to find people?
Looked at a dozen other jobs just like it.
How are you supposed to stand out at all, if you're just getting started?17 -
I have a friend who likes to change his tech stack every time he reads about a new technology online.....He started working on a startup idea of his.....He started with Larvel.....then came NodeJS...Then came .Net Core......Then Go.....And yesterday he told me that he is thinking about making it in Vapour.
Him: how long do you think it will take me
Me: ........Forever4 -
Today I started coding an encryption algorithm I'm calling Aepples (apples)!! I'll let all of you know how it goes!6

My mom told me I can be anything, so I became a masochist.
A.k.a. how I started a career in software development. -
Hey guys a couple of months ago I posted asking for help on how to land a remote job. A few weeks ago I got an interview and today I started my first remote job. Thank God and to all of you who suggested help.

I started learning React today. I have no idea what it does, how it works or how it does those thing. But i am already amazed.5

My 13yo brother started learning Haskell and latex on his own. When I was 13yo I learned C. I really want to see how his career path will go compared to mine3

So I started to read the book „Mastering Git“ by Jakub Narębski (*) and I am so impressed of how much more git is than just commit/push/pull 😳

A chick asked how much I earn, and I politely declined to answer.
She seemed annoyed and insisted, nudging me by saying how much she earns.
Again I told her I'd rather not say.
She got mad, started trying to emotionally blackmail me into telling her my salary...
This must be a red flag cuz I don't give two fucks about how much money people I date earn/have and expect them to either respect or share my view9 -
3 weeks into a new job I learned that my predecessor (who resigned and was out the door two days after I started) didn’t know how to secure s3 buckets when all of our production image assets got replaced with elder porn.
Jury’s still out if it was actually him the whole time.1 -
Last year I wanted to experiment with some 35mm film, so I got a 1978 Canon A-1. I was pissed when people started asking me how many megapixels does it have!2
-
i was helping a friend who just started learning how to code and i realized that tutorials don't teach you how to read error messages and how to debug. that's stuff we learn from people, it's tacit knowledge. that's crazy to me, because those are such essential skills to a dev and i think just self learning is not enough. maybe coding is even more of a socially dependent skill than i ever thought. looking at it that way, stackoverflow is a good example of that, I can't really imagine being a dev without the dev community6
-
So legitimately accidentally started building a compiler... Don't ask how because I don't know...
(No it's not a 'true' compiler that will create executables, it just a compiler to make some data easier for my runtime to read it)2 -
“I started learning to code today while I was in the toilet. Let me tell you about the best app to learning coding for beginners.”
How does this person have such blind confidence in their first though?3 -
I had no idea of how to implement the logic of a ticket. That's why I started with creating some unit tests that failed. Then I continued working until they all passed.
So it works now.
I have still no idea of how I implemented the logic.3 -
FUCK THIS SHIT. I AM OUT.
That's how I started my Monday. So this week gonna be another great week again. I can bet.2 -
I just started commenting my code. I know, its horrible i havent done this earlier..
I actually enjoy it now, i can express rage, write small jokes for myself to read next time i gotta edit the code, or just remind myself how fucking stupid i used to be11 -
How about you started off with programming?
I'll start with a veery old picture of my first Java-Code I've written (if you can call it eben that). At that time I tried to code using a JS-Designer. Just hilarious. 😂😂😂9 -
When I started programming ~5 years ago.
Teacher: OK, C++ classes and structs have 3 access modifiers: private, public and protected.
Private fields can't be accessed out of the current class.
Me thinking: wow, that's cool, but how can it be? I have to research.
I went to home and wrote a class with one variable with its set and get functionality.
Then I opened Cheat engine) and tried to access and change the variable. When I succeeded, I started hating this world of programming.
After some time I understood that it's wonderful cause it's up to you.5 -
Just started reading this. Great for learning some History and I just love the style it's written in. One can really feel how it was written by real admins. So much cynicism3
-
How I felt after spending an entire afternoon planning and designing a new feature for a project only to realize half of my design was wrong after I started implementing it1
-
Even though I bragging about how good my few projects are to the people I talk to them about, I undervalue my worth as a developer.
Even though I am desperate for money, I've only recently started trying to get work in the dev community (with little success) because I actually feel that I'm not a good enough developer..17 -
I started programing when I almost failed at some IT class 7 years ago when I was 16 in high school. So I started googling how to do basic stuff in java (if, for, while,... ) and I just fall in love with it 😊 I still remember how I wanted to make a button in Java so I googled: how to button in java 😂
Here I am still in love with it and I think I will always have this need to learn new programming languages, technologies, frameworks,... 😊🤓 -
When I was 14 years old my mom wouldn't buy me a game which was for sixteen years old people. At this point I didn't know how hard programming actually is so I decided to make the game by myself. And now I'm sixteen and in love with programming. (by the way started with C++)2

Started by looking at an imba talk* and then went over to scrimba and it surprised me how you can pause and live edit the code during the presentation, really impressive feature.

I just broke the software I am working in and I don't know how. Like seriously. I didn't change anything. It just stopped throwing the error I am supposed to be fixing and started throwing a different one. I blame ghosts.7

When I first started my current job, 2.5 years ago, I helped write the class that told the machine how to dispense and deposit money.
When the other programmer left, I decided to refactor that section. I wrote a new class that told the machine how to dispense and deposit money.
We are integrating new hardware that has a very different protocol of communication. I am making a library that will convert universal commands into vendor specific function calls. I am writing a new library that tells the machine how to dispense and deposit money.3 -
Yay, our marketing person has quit only after 4 months. New record for the longest staying marketing employee!
This is the third marketing person since I started here and I won a bet with a colleague for how long they will last :D4 -
There was this motherfucker searching a dev to build a vue component on freelancer.
I applied. 🙄
Then he started to ask me out about Upwork. How he wants to use my account through TeamViewer. And how he will pay me for this monthly.
Why am I magnetic to idiots and scammers? Can some one please Avada Kedavra all idiots? I will pay you monthly. I swear.3 -
I had a mid semester test and there was one question on how we should create class names. I was very tired, so the test started like around 9-ish. Instead of saying Camel Case method I said Camel Toe method.
Makes me wonder how did they come up with the name "camel casing" anyways?4 -
So I have a question.
How do you freelancers keep motivated? I'm a web developer and that's all I do. However i made a mistake of dedicating myself a little too much.
I moved to a new country and started with all these new projects that started becoming successful however when I started making friends in Uni and out , those friends were less of friends and I treated them more like workmates who I can share projects with and work on new orojects. Because of this, my career overtook me to the extent that that was all I ever worked on. Literally.
It was only recently that I realized that I have been missing out too much. I miss having a life and being with friends. recently I lost my creativity and productivity. Gave up on an insanely huge project because I have not been able to work on it. Lost a job because Im not productive. My life has started falling apart and I don't know how to keep it controlled. I feel I can't bother my friends because we're not totally close and most are only friends on campus.
I don't know what to do where to start or how to be productive again.9 -
I was teaching this girl today how to make a poll in slack and her computer was so sloooow. I started fixing her pc and she was really happy about it3

One Pro Tip for all developers :
(in my experience - a short story)
Our team chose agile development. We have items to deliver each sprint.
I was the guy who would always slip in my tasks due to issues that would pop up.
It was due to my own faults, I was less careful and failed to concentrate on one single item when I was working.
I started slipping a lot and my manager started questioning me on my performance. I tried a lot of productivity apps and other methods. Nothing seemed to change my life.
One day, An experienced person in the team said to me,
"Start Going to the gym" and it'll change everything.
I enrolled to the nearest gym and started working out every morning. Had sore arms /legs in the first few days. Nothing seemed to change.
After one week, my work patterns changed. I automatically started to work with a lot of concentration. I still don't know how things changed.
After 2 weeks, everything was completely different.
I was able to complete my sprint tasks in the first few days and started contributing to others work. Got a lot of recognition. My work was recognized a lot and my manager appreciated me.
So this is a real life changer folks.
"start hitting the GYM", and it'll change your life.
Please try it out and tell me how your work patterns change.3 -
Had a bug that I just couldn't figure out. How did I solve it? Had to think like a user. Just started clicking options over and over. Not giving it time. Found my issue.1

How many of you wear shades at work?
I started doing it after I faced some problems due to the extremely bright lights. It's such a complicated problem that no one in the management or admin team can do anything about it. 🙄12 -
For as long as I can remember I watched my dad at his computer doing work and programming, so I got interested in computers. I started using and mastering computer skills when I was 5 and helped people with their computer problems. I was hesitant to learn how to program because it looked hard, but I eventually have I'm and started to learn Java at 12. I started by making Bukkit plugins for Minecraft (1.7.10). I learned to program, because I knew that computers will one day help people, and I wanted to help people too.2

Freaking Magento! I've been learning how to use Magento for about the past week and i feel like i'm no closer than when i started..5

Since learning how to program, I have started to see the world in a different way. The algorithmic and Mathematical way of approaching computing problems I have adapted to approach all of my problems. Everything is just a problem that can be solved by taking a logical approach!
-
Since I already achieved my dream of being employed as a mobile app dev, I'm into creating music now to prove myself I can achieve something with this too. But you know, I'm kinda lost what to do. Like how I was when I started programming 😂
Maybe one day I can combine both skills into something interesting.9 -
I started learning Programming by building Android Apps, Without even knowing that this is how Java Works.. And after that I was introduced to Java at college.. Kinda reverse process5
-
I started using vim today
Not sure if I'm gonna ditch GUI IDEs and editors completely, but I think I'll try using only vim for a day or two, see how it goes8 -
Started a new job recently and feel like I don't know anything compared to everyone else, only got a years commercial experience but feel like I should know more! Anybody else ever feel like this when they were starting out? How do you overcome it?6

How do u spend your free time? These days I’m constantly torn between coding and painting. Both are my passions. And I recently started a coding blog I love writing on it, and I also want to learn meanstack in free time. But I also want to paint........ :(10

I still do exist, long time no see, fellow Devs! How is it going?
Didn't posted here in long time. Anything new relevant? I just started studying at an university. Hoping to post again here.14 -
Was working on a game and I hated having to hardcode stuff I wanted to add so I started splitting it into external json files but by the end (and to an extent still learning it) learnt how to do mod support and simple user generated content, really cool stuff to learn about.
-
Just started using Electron. Seems alright. But
coming from Java, I have no fucking idea how that shit works. Started with something simple, so I wanted to show currrent date and time in a <h1>.
Well, I'm stuck. Time to read docs again :) -
Three things for me:
- when the mentor whom I admire said that I've kept growing non-stop and would have some discussions about how to execute things as an equal.
- when I more than doubled my salary in less than a year
- when I started to recognize code smell and bad code practices on the PRs2 -
At first, my family was like "Don't waste your time on the computer, in college, you will learn how to code". I didn't listen, I started learning C#, but somehow I ended up learning C++ lol. Then I started with C, assembly, and SystemVerilog.
After they saw how good I was at it. They started supporting me. I don't blame them for not supporting me at first, they were ignorant about the topic, so they were blindly making assumptions. -
Started with some inspiration for making a 2d MMORPG.
These are how i make the world generator:
Decide you want to generate paths/roads.
Realize you need pathfinding function.
Realize you totally forgot how astar pathfinding works.
Search for implementation.
End up getting bored and implement other cool feature instead.
I literally made a bunch of stuff before writing a 20 or so lines long astar cause its boring. -
Since I've started writing in clojurescript a 1.5 yrs ago, I can barely look at JavaScript.
I started to realise how ugly it is.
Seriously waiting to the day browsers will work with clojurescript out of the box, without the need to compile.
The language is so clean, clear, easy and data oriented, I find it hard to go back to js.
Also, the docs are much better.
Long live concurrency !15 -
Foolow up on: https://devrant.com/rants/1066787/...
I freaking did!
Already wrote half of the app in react.
I dont know how it happened, but i just got the idea and started coding suddenly!
And.... I love it!3 -
So for 2020, will there be a new cool language to bash on, or will it continue to be JS and python?
I find it strange how python hate is just popping up everywhere and to me it seems like it just started happening nov/dec.11 -
no one taught me how to host anything web, i had to figure out how to get things live by myself. it was awful, documentation on that stuff sucks, but i got through it knowing far more than when i started.5
-
Finally got rid of my old job I ranted about so much. Started a new one on Monday. A bit anxious and terrified (there is a lot to learn) but it feels good. The team is fun and they know what they are doing. BUT most importantly: they know how to plan projects and know how to intervene if a project is about to run out of resources. NICE.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes3 -
I started playing Counter-Strike 1.6 at the age of 11. Soon after that, I wanted to own a server. I've managed to create a server in the following weeks but I wasn't happy, I needed custom plugins but I didn't have any programming skills. And that's how the journey started.

Recently I started to be interested in how code actually work. I do a for-loop or an if-statement but how do they actually work at the lowest level.
Another thing I've been interested in is security. I thought about learning how to hack my own systems in order to learn how to write more secure code and keep people out. But I'm a little afraid that as soon as I start look at how to hack, the police will storm through the window and take my computer 😂😂8 -
Been worrying about this for a few weeks now.
As a junior dev, how do I continue to improve (with respect to coding style, technique, etc.) when my seniors are only slightly better than me in a technical regard? I feel like I'm improving at a drastically slower pace than when I first started.

Was a PC repair guy. A wealthy man saw that I have potential, asked me to build a website. I started learning how to code. Frustrated, quit the job, and bummed off for weeks. Started fresh, like magic, everything seemed easier without the pressure. Freelanced for a few years, now at a media company, as an XD.3

Whenever I cancel out old chunks of code that do not serve their function anymore, or that I commented out in early phases to make space for better functions, I feel dead inside. It's almost like if I was saying goodbye to a very old friend, who supported me through the project and reminded me of how I started it.
Than I notice how stupid and/or inelegant that chunk was, and feel better. 😂 -
I was inspired to be a programmer when I was 7 yrs old.
I started out using my dad's old Macintosh, it was pretty good at the time when I was 7. I played a game called "On The Run" at miniclip. I thought that one day I want to become a programmer who can do more than this or any other game.
Later when I was 9, my father bought a laptop but then he gave it to me. So I started and learn how computers work. It was a Acer 4376G I think, Windows Vista. (I didnt know vista was bad) I started with how to mod Java on a game called Need for Madness. That was when I learned about all sorts of jargon when looking up stuffs. I was able to somehow understand code but not write it. It was 9 years later, when at the end of 2015, I found khan academy and codecademy thru howtogeek. That was when I understand the most basic function that led me to build my entire knowledge or else I can only write -
Started a new web dev job, how long until I can tell my new boss that the codebase sucks and needs a complete rewrite?2

So I had this awesome idea yesterday, and I was really in to it and all, so before I started working on it I googled some stuff, and while looking for something (how do you generate session cookies) I just found out that somebody did EXACTLY what I wanted to do. Now I'm sad.7
-
I realized how much I suck at maths.
But seriously now, I started understanding the way things work, what makes them 'tick'.
It feels good to look at a random huge advert screen and immediately conjure up a pseudocode how I imagine the developers must have done it.1 -
Started a new job, then I found out that the salary of the person in charge of me has lower/same as I have.
How did I know? I looked at the API without authentication of all the list of employees.
Luckily, I didn't sign the contract yet5 -
Went through a lot of GitHub repositories and other people's codes to try to understand how the "magic" happens. Slowly started getting a hang of it. Good thing being, I picked up good coding practices along the way

I posted this previously but somehow the category was not seleteced properly and people started labeling me a spammer.... Pretty warm and welcoming I guess... Any how here's the meme..

Hey guys! So I need advice/strategy’s on how to let someone go in your life. It all started when I became friends with this person through other mutual friends, at first I didn’t even think twice about him. But now we started talking more and I realize he’s funny and nice, however, he does do some pretty bad things I don’t agree with. And whenever we are in public he ignores me and goes off with my other friends, how do I stop stressing about this. I really just want to let go of this person and move on, go back to not even thinking twice about him. I need help on how to do this, thank you so much for your time and advice.5
-
I've had a mentor who talked less and taught more. Before becoming a front end developer, I was doing flash. So, when I started front end, I didn't have any idea even about the basic stuff.
But, whenever I get stuck he will give a keyword for me to search. So, I learned how to survive in New areas & technologies - By googling. -
I started studying programming last year, currently learning c# and c++ at college (even though I'm a 29 years old electrical engineer.. long story...) any advice on how to start looking for internships and jobs? I feel very lost on how to proceed to gain experience and feel that many of my colleagues have the same issue. Thanks4

I changed nothing but now it works.
It's been over one week since I started battling this bug. I guess I'm glad it's fixed, but how, and why?4 -
I've always been a tech fan. Made my first site when I was 12, but I stopped at HTML and CSS. Now I started coding, and here I am - 24y/o studying pointers in C. I don't even php.
Am I too late? How old were you when you first started coding?9 -
Started working with the Fish Shell, liked it pretty much until I had to write a shell script!! Things are so different from bash/zsh. Now i need to learn how you do things in fish.
Fuck you Fish!!:/7 -
So, i started at this company about 4 months ago. So far i mostly worked in existing project and legacy code.
We started a new project for a pretty big client, and i'm the one who's responsible for setting the project up. The last two days i've been struggling with database issues. Finally got the site running locally about an hour ago.
And now i am running into troubles because i don't know how to set up a project yet since i only worked in existing projects.
Great. Can't say i'm not challenged here! -
In school i had to do a simple HTML site(i was 13 back then). And i started writting it in guess what... Notepad
Thats how i felt in love with bare code -
So the other day I was talking to my gf about how it was crowdy in the metro area and how big the queue was for ticket, she said 'You should never say it was a big queue but it was a long queue' and I said 'It wasn't a big queue but it was a double queue' and I started laughing.
My gf being from a non technical background didn't understand why I was laughing so much.2 -
Best thing: I started to understand how compilers work under the hood (sort of), was even able to implement a few scanners already
Worst thing: I have absolutely no clue how to continue ._.2 -
How do y'all deal with reading other people's code?
Context: was given a frontend project (I'm a frontend dev) that was started and is managed by a backend dev who just started doing frontend.
I want to start from scratch as I don't understand a thing he codes, conventions are all off, and the structure is just weird.5 -

After responding to that rant asking our ages I realised how much fucking time I have wasted. I'm not afraid of aging, but man, if I had started learning programming two or even one year ago I'd know so much more right now. But fuck, I've been procrastinating life for 21 years. 21 FUCKING YEARS!5

How I learned to program:
My father installed a DOS VM on my eMac when I was 7 and started learning in QBASIC. In my opinion, it's still one of the best ways to get started with programming due to its simplicity. -
When I was 8, I was just casually using the computer I had, and then I suddenly started asking these questions in my head, “how does all of this work? How does the computer know when I press that key on the keyboard? How does it know I moved the mouse to the right?” And so on and so on. So I started searching for answers. Then I saw code examples and stuff and I told myself that I want to understand this and just started learning. Hooked ever since!!

Great how I’ve just started a new job, haven’t been given all the licenses I need to run the software, there are multiple products with little to no documentation (and by none I mean the word “Architecture” is all there is in one of the main products ReadMe file) and I’ve a year of this! How is a company that’s this big not in any way documented like! This is gonna be long 😑2

Anyone here using the Nim programming language? I just started today and want to see how others feel about it and if anyone may be interested in collaborating on a project.5

Just started to do something. Then i came accross a problem and googled "How to concentrate strings in C" Found sprintf and strcat, could concentrate strings. And this just with every problem.4

I was programming in java, C# and similar languages for years now and I never knew how the buffer overflow exploits would work, then I started C and saw the fixed size char arrays. After puking on my keyboard I realized that most of the vulerable programs were indeed written in C or similar languages.11

How often do you guys use mouse/track pad ?
I started being a programmer, I like doing most of my work the keys way.7 -
Do you guys support today's youth learning how to code? If so, why? If not, why not?
I started coding when I was 11.13 -
Revisiting Python again and so far it's very enjoyable. It brings back memories on how excited I was when I started to grasp certain concepts within programming. Feel like it's really easy to actually accomplish things in that language. It also makes me realize I have learnt a lot on my journey because I felt that I understand what I'm doing.

I want to freelance when I'm not doing my full time job. To those that are freelancers, how should I get started? What is your experience? How do you guys get customers?6

It is so funny how this PM got dizzy when I started detailing all the possibilities of her generic requirements and asking for clarification and we started drawing how the fuck she wants in to be.
But "just put all data on the report" should be simple, right?
Not a 2 hours discussion on one topic out of 10, right?
Not.3 -
I just started learning java cause i have to because of uni, and i heavily used JS before , but somehow i really love the statically typed syntax and it brings so much clarity about what everything is doing.
Also love how object oriented everything is5 -
I started my first job as a junior JS developer a month ago, and I'm quite overwhelmed with all the things I don't know. I feel like the knowledge gap is vast between my colleagues and me.
So what's the best advice you can give for me and how I can keep improving myself. I used to take many online courses before I started, but now my time is limited, and can't watch as much as before :(8 -
Since I started messing around with front end (JavaFX and css), the expression "code works and I don't know why" just gained a whole new level.. I have no idea how did those boxes aligned..2

When everything kind of just clicked.
I was struggling with learning how to program for quite some time when I first started, but one day I'm not sure what happened but everything clicked. It all started making sense and I felt like I could do anything with code. It was on that day that I knew I was going to be a dev for life. -
When this development rush nightmare started in october, I thought I could handle it until January.
Now, I just don't know how without destroying myself.
This is one of these important things one should to learn.1 -

Anyway, how is your weekend going?

Started working in big firm from past 2 months, I was learning about company, its products and what it does. To speed up things I asked one senior who has 8 yrs of exp, she said she also has no clue how things work here......
Now I know why I was hired as an urgent requirement......1 -
How my day started yesterday.
Luckily It fixed itself, but i was starting my day thinking I should just rewrite a function that wasn’t working so I could test some stuff but instead just decided to debug and thankfully I did that because the error was being caused by a lack of quotes and when I saw that I changed it.
It worked flawlessly and it’s my first project to use SQLite so I stood up and walked around because I was just so amazed because it was working how I planned and how I intended.
That feeling that you get from a project that works how you wanted it to is unbeatable -
For today I had to implement a Strategy Pattern solution for dynamically loading items in a view. So, I came in the morning and started doing it, finally after some time I acomplished it, with one strategy, so when I started implementing the other ones, everything went to crap so I thought "Okay, lets checkout to how it was on the morning, just to realize I leaved yesterday without commiting.
I wanna kill someone1 -
I just started on a Laravel project for a customer. Damn I’ve got a hate/love relationship with that thing.
I fucking love how fucking fast development is it in, even for fairly complex tasks, amazing.
I fucking hate how goddamn fucking slow development is when you get an error, as that shit is near impossible to debug, and you keep getting weird exceptions that you just need to know what means. -
Any writers here that have tips on how to get started with writing?
I used to write a lot of stories as a kid, but nowadays I can never get my imagination started anymore. I guess you "just start", but I never know what to start writing about. Usually I write about my past and what I usually think about, but that often leads to nowhere or gets depressive.
Any ideas on how to start writing a story? Should I be more organized or should I just start with one thing (a character, a place, an event) and see where things go from there? Do you write by hand or on a computer?31 -
How do you cope with stress and maintaining structure to your day as you work from home? Since I started working from home, I'm struggling with vaping more than normal, exercising less. When I was still in an office, I had an unconscious rhythm to the day that I took for granted.12

So I've just started pledging for an emulator project that I've been waiting for for a long time. I can't wait to see how it turns out! It's my first time monthly pledging, too ^^4

I posted a few weeks ago about how I started my own mobile app development business. Today, I released its first app. It's a turn by turn navigation app for amusement parks, right now it's only featuring Walt Disney World. If you have an Android the app is called AmuseGO. I'm waiting for apple to approve it.2

Somehow further back on this ticket than when I started. How does that even happen?
I went from okay I can replicate the issue and trying to fix it to now the data I need to replicate it won't even load. WTF?
I don't know

Our boss doesn't know
3 seperate QAs don't know
Boss of QA doesn't know3 -
Software engineers new to iOS didn't know how to pronounce segue, so they started pronouncing it "seg". It spread, and I am now arguing with senior architects about how to pronounce it properly.3

Finally forced myself to play one ending of Cyberpunk. Kinda felt underwhelming with no real impact on the world. All the player's motivations are pretty selfish. Got tired of playing and started playing Minecraft again. ATM10.
ATM10 has shaders and tons of cool mods. Plus rewards for doing basic shit so getting started takes less time. I will see how long before I get bored of Minecraft again.
Been taking tons of notes on gameplay I want, and don't want. I feel like a fun/epic rpg would be great with base and vehicle building.8 -
It all started when I got my first iPhone. I had so many ideas for any kinds of apps, so I wanted to learn how to program them. I went to school and learnt programming. (I started with Java)
While beeing at that school I taught myself Objective-C and I started to write Apps. After school I got a job as an iOS Developer. -
I prefer starting from theory and then proceed with practicing. For example, to learn haskell and deeply understand it, I started by taking a course in category theory and I already have a degree in computer science and then start writing actual code. The same with JS. I started with theory for JIT compilers and studied how V8 works, how it utilizes event loops and how they are implemented in the kernel. Then I started experimenting with code and demos. It's a success path for me, that has worked every time with every new technology.2
-
I didn't know what I should do with my life..... Then I started learning how to waste it in programming.
-
Ups and downs in devLand.
Day started with a meeting with one client. Guys, getting told "thank you" and "I appreciate your help" feels so good. Nothing could bring me down.
Then I get an asshole making the same request that we already went over -__-
Seriously, how many emails do I have to send. Sigh. -
Suggestion please!
I work basically on native android applications. From last week I started exploring cross platform and chose React native. I have zero knowledge on JS. And now it seems very hard to grab. I started a project and learning whatever I'm needing on that purpose. Some props I'm shooting blindly and components I don't even understand clearly how they are working.
Please suggest me a convenient way or guide me with some resources to alleviate my frustration! Pretty please!4 -
Am I the only one wondering when the IT bubble is going to burst? I mean, I'm getting paid ridiculous money for things that could be done by trained monkey, I barely work more than 4h per contract and every year I either get a raise or swap job for one that gives it to me. How long can this go on? When the big tech layoffs started I though that's it, but nope. How the hell does this function12
-
From those of you who are already working fulltime/have experience with applying for jobs. I am currently writing my CV and I am not sure how I can mention my programming knowledge in an adequate way. I have 7 years of C# Knowledge, started of with VB.NET before. 2 years with python, C++ Knowledge ~3 years, basic experience with Delphi, html.. How did you mention this in your cv? By years of experience or different?10

One year since I started programming I feel like I haven't made enough progress. If I have an idea, I don't know how to get started with it.
When I finally figure out a good starting point, I get stuck in Tutorial Land and I feel like I should be able to do things myself with just the documentation instead of doing beginners tutorials y'know?1 -
Well... I guess I started learning how to program so many years back when I thought I could fix my girlfriend's mood swings with code. Guess what: we are married now and I'm still learning how to program!2

Anyone got some decent book or scientific papers to read about how looking at phone screens affect human brain ? Might be also about watching tv because I don’t see the difference, despite the size of the screen.
It’s cause I started to think that either me or everyone around is complete idiot. -
I've been doing software development for my personal projects on Windows OS since college, and I just started dual booting Ubuntu...
How did I not realize how slow Windows was for coding until now? Holy. The customization of Ubuntu is insane.3 -
So today I started looking at an old project (site/api tester) I backlogged due to various blockers.
I started remembering things and after setting up the testing app, I realized it depended on an extraction app that I wrote before that. And this reminds me of the whole start of all this testing stuff going back more then a year ago.
It sorta felt like I just took the cover off a hole? And then remembered how deep it goes.
And thankfully I left myself documentation... Though took me a while to find and still looking... (tracing from 1 project to another) -
Once upon a time I was thinking if I should do IT or another career. I started to wonder "Boy, I think I should learn how to program...". Then I watched Shia LaBeouf's JUST DO IT. Well, I didn't have much choice then besides doing IT, did I?

Just wondering, how many of you professionals did not go to college?
I didn’t go to college myself. I have ~10 years of experience but it seems to become more and more of a big deal.
I feel like when I started only maybe 50% of my colleagues had a degree..12 -
Carpel Tunnel has actually made me a far better programmer.
While I've had to cut down on how much I program, I have instead started writing the first draft of any program on the whiteboard and manually debugging it.
Also got my dream internship because it made me far better at coding interviews!1 -
My dad bought me a book on QBASIC when I was around 7 or 8 years old, and within a month I decided I was going to be a game programmer when I grew up. That's not where I ended up, but that's how the journey started. My parents were both pretty supportive of that decision.

Hello everybody. Are there any open source contributors around here? I have never contributed to an open source project but I would really love to get myself involved in this.
I have no ideea on how to get started though, any advice?

I had this amazing friend during my Bachelors and I think because of her I started to learn programming.
Long story short, IT(not just IT though) curriculum in India is shit. So you do not really get to learn during your college. It’s completely on you and how you self teach. This friend who I am talking about not just learnt all this and did research for herself, but she tried to teach and make others aware as well. She organised DjangoGirls workshop in our city where I participated. That’s when I really started learning stuff useful in real world. -
WK385, unrealistic deadline.
My bachelors thesis, ok the deadline was not set unrealistically by the school but it took ungodly amount of time for me to understand what I was supposed to do. By the time if actually got started I had four weeks left until deadline.
I still question myself how I pulled it off3 -
Just started a blog. It doesn't look pretty and I just grabbed the first fully free platform I could - I don't care how it looks. I intend to post on it every time I learn something interesting or have something I think is decent to say.

Another one someone reminded me of when mentioning !important...

I first started off with a pentium 3 machine in 2004, started gaming on warcraft 3 and maplestory and eventually got addicted to it because nothing else was interesting in my life. Okay extending this story, i eventually got banned, dad smashed 1000 bucks of his money by kicking and throwing it. Years later (i think it was 2011), i got hold of my first Android device. This time round, things were different and I spent 6 months with it problem free and then it started lagging. Google search led me to XDA, started modding the device, eventually startedgetting interested about how people do it and voila, C prog, write some management drivers for malloc and etc. Eventually i dropped kernel development 3 years later and now im in .NET Core.5

I started coding as soon as year 5 of school. It was more learning how to write algorithms at first. This gave me the necessary grounds for being able to solve complex problems in my head by splitting them up. Actual programming started out in year 9 when I first met Pascal, younger programmers probably don't even know what it is(I'm 20 and I say that) 😂. Then I moved on to C and C++ in the following year and that made me realise that all languages are really similar.

I started thinking on how ML can help in hacking but before that I got another doubt on how you can be a effective hacker and started looking into all ways of being a hacker but later convinced myself that hacking is not just a tuxedo jacket to wear it's more of you watching duncrick movie multiple times and understanding what exactly the movie all about so any leads for resources to cultivate that mind set of being a hacker and any links/material to follow and practise would be of great help1

So I started a new job. The software is totally proprietary, and honestly pretty outside of my specialty.

How many people can say they've read just about every rant posted? I remember when I first started I didn't have much to do and read all the way back, now I feel as though I've committed myself to this and refuse to miss any rants!
Thanks so much DevRant!!!1 -
My biggest dev regret is not starting earlier. I started learning how to code only 5 years ago, when I was 19. God, I wish I started earlier.

So I am usually more of a classical backend/ app developer guy. I like my Local compilers/interpeters whatever. Recently though i kinda started thinking about how Web Apps work, and how to actually make one, which lead me to the Realisation that i actually have no idea how any of it works. So I started a little private project using django, as I am quite good with python. But soon after starting i realized that that wouldnt be enough, i would need to learn the basics as well as a couple of languages.
So can the community recommend me some books and learning material on JavaScript, HTML and CSS as well on general Web development ? While we are at that matter, can someone give me a rundown on what the differences between Javascript, angular, jquery etc are?4 -
I just started learning Norwegian. Does anyone know how I can enable branch prediction in the compiler?1

What's everyone second source of income?
Curious on how you started and money per month of average for it. Feel I should start working towards it in case of layoffs or just need of extra money.
Is freelancing on upwork worth it?13 -
So I know React & Vue, webpack, Node/Express, ES2018, GraphQL, all the "fancy stuff" but I'd also like to get some skills creating/customizing WP templates.
Any recommendations on how to get started?
(other than "eww WordPress, pls kill yourself")2 -
My standard pattern for using 'time saving' things (frameworks, scripts, new technologies) seems to be:
1) Get excited by how easy <new thing> is to use.
2) Spend the next 12 hours trying to work out how to work with this new shit.
3) Realise I'm now further back than I started.
Today has been docker.
Easy to run my new Wildfly docker container.... can I find the IP address to connect to? Can I fuck.2 -
I started working with Luigi, the workflow manager for a data-science project. Any input on how to test the Tasks or how does it compare to Airflow?

So how you like opera accepting ipfs crypto domains ?
I just started being interested in it as it might move people to encrypted internet.
You think things like unstoppable domains and metamask are the future of internet ?
I can find anything useful that is on crypto domains right now.2 -
When starting primary school, my parents got me a low-spec Pentium 4 with Windows 98. I was fascinated and started learning many things in MS Office. This led to small adventure-like games in PowerPoint.
I quickly found the limits of PowerPoint and started to dive into C++ at around 10. I never made a game, but only because I experienced how unlimited the possibilities are you have when you know how to write software and this realisation kept me motivated to learn more and more things. -
Started the weekend early. I finished everything with 15 minutes to spare. And I learned how to create aliases for more than 250 Oracle tables without having to create each one individually. I finished the day, and a stressful week on a high note. Satisfied.3

Anyone have advice for a young'un still at their first job (what factors might be worth considering in staying/leaving, possible consequences of leaving current job before contract ends, etc etc etc)?
I started doing interviews at other places just purely out of curiosity and wanting to gain practice, to evaluate how I performed to other companys' standards, but somehow managed to progress to final stages and now I'm really considering leaving but I only just started feeling part of my current company 😥4 -
In the 90s i was in elementary school, my biggest question was "when you unplug a computer how it knows what time it is when you turn it on again, how its not reset like a digital clock we had", and there it all started....

I think WW3 will be started by misunderstanding. China will invade Japan. And the scene I can imagine will be :
A random Japanese: "Konichiwa"
A random C official : "攻我菊花?🤬"
Secondly, Russia invade Malaysia and Indonesia , after we told president Putin "Kita Suka awak"
And then that's how ....

I joined a startup a few months back, it has four developers apart from me and after I joined and started interacting with them, I could feel that they weren't happy working there, after a couple of months, they became vocal about their dislike, when we were talking about work. I too started experiencing that. Two of them are going to leave next month.
I feel like its starting to rub off on me, I don't have that enthusiasm I used to have, I dread going to the office and overall everything related to the office started to seem negative to me. I feel like I want to get out of this place ASAP.
yeah, most of the things they say are true and I'm not so sure about the rest. Is this how I truly feel?1 -
I started programming with Threads (in C#) I though it can't be this difficult after i get it how to create a delegate right (2 hrs) and interact with my form without a crash (after another hr, but it didn't do this what it supposed to do) there popped up errors kind of randomly out of nothing and I have no idea how to avoid or catch them😩4

Copied from Plataformatec/Devise OSS project issue
"Right, I was following the wiki. I don't know how, but it magically started working. Not sure what did it, but it's working now! Thanks."

I've always been a fidgeter and I loved going to the tech museum in our city when I was a kid. As someone who also loved to build with Lego and create I eventually stumbled upon programming, where my dad recommended I'd start out with Scratch. It didn't really do it for me, so I put it down. Around the age of 12 I wanted to give programming another shot, but this time I started of with Python. It still followed a C-style syntax but wasn't as strict of a language, and that's how I got started!
Note: soon after I switched to C and C++ and they're now my main languages 😊 -
today I was explaining a non tech guy , how 2 mobiles communicate with each other via a server. It started of really good. Then I got to know that what I was speaking was looking like Greek to him. This made it very clear that explaining things are also a difficult job1

I've started using PyQT5 and I'm surprised at how easy it's been so far.
Anyone familiar with it, and if so, what kind of obstacles I can expect to encounter making custom widgets and styling?6 -

Just confused about how shall I add the web SDK in the React way.
Also, any explanations, tips, things-I-should-beware about branch?
[that is, if anyone's happened to have heared of it] -
I started wondering where does all the bullshit fit inside my body? How can 1 human have such trillions and trillions of bullshit storage? How much bullshit flows through me every day is unbelievable unless filmed. I am like an amazon warehouse for bullshit. I am full of shit. Thanks to school and recruiters of course

Never thought I'd say this, but migrated a project to Azure and started using MQTT instead of LwM2M, and I am impressed with Azure IoT hub and how easy the process was.

I am an asp.net dev who started working march - 2022.
I am the only dev in the team (CSD) from September - 2022(colleague gone on maternity leave).
Starting from January I have been training 2 freshers/intern.
Any ideas on how to convert this into resume points?3 -
How the hell do I plan and put in place new procedures for testing and THEN updating software on our department server 😫 (a 7zip bug got us good recently lol)
why couldn't this be a procedure before I started working here. I don't know how to create a procedure document. What if I forget to write a step
Fuck I just wanna go back to my code not a word document3 -
Just started reading Cracking the Coding Interview and I just can't help but think this whole thing is a joke. The author can't even give a convincing argument why learning algorithm is important for interview. She simply states word for word: it is what it is.
I google her a bit and find that she started her venture Careercup.com and the website is such a joke. How can you even call yourself a software engineer with a website like that. I am pretty sure she using some kind of wordpress engine.
I can't imagine how many people that work at FANG companies that think like her..6 -
Where I learn networks and cyber security, we started working with Scapy. I have a problem with pycharm, it cannot resolve half of Scapy's functions. Do any of you know how you fix it (the program runs but pycharm still doesn't like it)3

Will like to ask, what are some math topics which are useful to learn and pickup? Additionally, how should I get started out?1 -
I was learning gw basic in school.
Instructor showed us how to draw a circle. I started graphics mode, set red as primary color and gave a loop to the circle, which reduced width at every iteration and turned it into an ellipse.
Woah .... That was the best Opera logo I ever saw -
How long before Devrant suffers from the same that ruined Yikyak?

today is exactly the first month I started learning programming. But, I have always wondered, how is a language created? and why people willingly painstakingly learn new language when its not widely used?1

I started working on a small declarative PHP framework inspired by SwiftUI using some Laravel components. Wondering how much interest people might have in it.

I started my first IT job nearly 2 years ago, and since then I have already had 4 different "project/scrum" managers for my team.
I don't know how I should feel about it3 -
I am a front-end developer with 2 years of experience and I want to shift over to devops role. How can I get started and what are my chances to interview for any devops role especially since I haven't worked as one or as a sysadmin? Any help is greatly appreciated.1

I started teaching myself AngularJS and was reminded how difficult it is to distinguish between a person's convention and proper implantation.
For example (pseudo-code):
angular.module(). controller(){}
or
var app = ang.mod()
app.controller(){}
I get it now, but figuring out the difference at first was an extra step that I found tedious. -
I started working full-time almost a year ago and I make around Rs 3.5 lakh. A $100k dollar salary in US is equivalent to around Rs 10-12 Lakh in India. Realistically speaking, How long will it take before I can to get somewhere close to that number ?3
