I really love to share my knowledge and I have a opportunity to teach kids coding as a lector. I even switched my f-ing theme to light for them so they can see the board (they're already saying light theme sucks, I love them). Maybe it's only html/css but they're learning so fast even though they're just bunch of 12-13yo Minecraft kids 😂 I'm myself only 17 but I can see the "age gap" between us, I'm getting old...11

If I hear anyone utter the words "technical debt" one more time, I swear to God, I will fucking kill them :-/
It's your fault your design smells like piss in the first place. It's your responsibility to fucking fix it. You can't just sit on your arse all day, coming up with new, "innovative" ideas that will build up more technical debt :-/ it's making the life of everyone around you, a big, irreparable mess.10 -

I see loads of students here.. and loads of freelancers and startup joiners.. all varieties...but one.. Anyone has a 'normal' 9-5 or sth (dev) work? Does that even exist?! Anyone stands up when the 8h are up and can leave the work behind?
I can't.. even when I leave the office I have algos & code stuck in my head..trying to solve the problem I worked on..
How do you handle non dev life? Is there anything left in a day?
I usually work monday-friday on avg 9h/day and have no idea how to manage not being fucked up at the end of the week. :\ I am trying to get back climbing, but usually I am just soooooo tiiiiireeeeeed after work.. FINALLY fixed a stupid website issue. Absolutely nothing to do with my job, but it's also no-one else's job - the website was apparently contracted out years ago and everyone just let it go when they saw this thing.
...also 'finally' refers to the fact that it's been bugging me since I interviewed several months ago. I spent longer finding the thing I was looking for than I did fixing it2 -

Currently working as student part timer on a company that I really like.
When I'll finish my bachelor's degree, I will have been there for about 2-3 Years, additional to my 5 years working prior to that as a developer.
Today I learned, that our company doesn't usually pay the market price for devs (not a huge company, 150 employees, so it's understandable).
So now I don't know what to shoot for when discussing a raise after my degree. Should I still aim for market price? Should I argue with that and hope for the best?
I'm really unsure about that stuff...4 -

So, learning Java at the moment.
Thoughts so far:
“This IDE is going to make me so lazy! It can write getters, setters, AND toString() for me?!”
“Oh my god, angle brackets. It’s like someone with a love of nesting was made fun of for wasting space and retaliated by crafting a language that inlined nesting data types.”
“Whoa, this would safeguard what kind of input went into the function SO MUCH.”
“DOES THIS MAKE IT EASIER TO WRITE UNIT TESTS?! *excited*14 -

Adobe's ExtendScript toolkit is abyssmal. I find posts from 2008 referring to issues that have not changed even in CC2017. Do you think they are small issues I'm bitching about? I'll list 2. First, the toolkit only colours "var, return, for, foreach" and a bit more keywords and the strings, of course you can set up color schemes but those are limited and not colouring stuff. The second issue is auto-complete, it rarely kicks in and suggestions have 0 connection to what are you doing and are always the same. It doesn't recognize anything of what are you doing.
Probably in 2008 you had to program with the manual near you like writing assembler, now there's an improvement in 2017, they got a window named object browser or something like that that actually is a summarised portable manual that could've been easily transformed in auto-complete suggestions.
Adobe writes about this and I quote: "a complete integrated development environment". Although I will not write much scripts in it, I need to write a big one and thought about extracting that object data and putting it in a more capable javascript editor. LO and Behold what I discovered, the ExtendScript Toolkit that's supposed to edit Extended javascript and save it as jsx or jsxbin is almost completely (it has some dlls too) built using around 100 jsx files. It's the equivalent of building a js IDE to edit js.
Sorry for formatting, I'm on mobile, I tried. -

Fuck ssh. It does 4 things at once and i couldn't get it to do one. I have some pi's and want a shared directory on each of them. On a server i created a user for that and mounted its home directory on a pi, it worked. I did some lockdowns (no shell, only sftp allowed, login only via keyfile), but i was still able to mount it on boot.
Now i had to migrate this setup to another server. It took me a while copying all the configuration etc. All i got for that was a error-message. I figured out the users home-directory had to be owned be root, fixed that, got another error message. Somehow scp didn't use sftp but the login shell which is /usr/sbin/nologin. That made scp (and sshfs) fail, even though it perfectly works with the other server.
I gave up and removed all the setup. I'll find another distributed filesystem for that (but not samba or nfs, those are way to complicated). Those are the setbacks that depress me. -
I was presented with a different backend schema today after finishing the front end, not before not even during, it just had to be after.1

My friends don't understand what it's like to be a dev so when I ask for times/arrangements they think I'm just being a prick about it. Sometimes I ask for specific times because I have to do pull requests and what not and I want to arrange it to maximize little downtime but because none of these guys are Devs they don't understand. How do I help these guys understand that me asking for specific times isn't about me being a prick, it just has to do with work because when I tell them that they don't get it3

What font size do you normally use for programming?
I've been using 12-14px for years, but I switched to 16px for the last couple of hours. Feels weird but I kinda like it.
Sure, you do lose some real estate but it feels like it's way easier for the eyes. Less physical strain == less mental strain, which in turn makes for higher quality code.
Also, selecting stuff is more satisfying, but that's probably just me since I'm weird ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Any thoughts?4 -

I feel like shit for failing them and especially I feel bad for the poor guy after me.2

Late night thoughts: what if I write a simple script to reboot my PC and run it automatically after each start up? How do I ever stop it?
Seems quite dumb but I can't think of any easy solution..1 -
Why did Gboard stop putting automatic spaces after using a word from the predictive typing bar after writing a word with ex. a misspelling?! It adds a space after words picked from the list while typing the word but not when changing it after the fact.
Why did the change this! Now I'm constantly writinglikethis which is extremely annoying!!! It wasn't like this a few weeks ago!!3 -
